Climate Denialism
Alberta s denial of anthropogenic climate change
Hegemonic ideology is shaped in the news by Murphy s above mentioned notion of discursive
framing. Murphy, however makes the sweeping assumption that discursive framing can be applied to
similar conflicts, but this is not always the case. For the purpose of this literature review, discursive
framing will only be applied to the concept of climate denialism that runs rampant in the Calgary
Herald. Murphy (2015, p.355) asserts, denial, dismissal, diversion and displacement are the four
strategies that institutions use in order to exclude uncomfortable knowledge. This debate has a
tendency to occur outside academia and from what I have seen, occasionally surfaces in business
journals that oppose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In view of this, I hypothesize that the Herald will use tactics in order to increase readership and
prevent readers from having to wrestle with new concepts on the subject of climate change. Boykoff
and Smith would be critical of the Calgary Herald and criticize it for presenting climate change as an
evenly balanced debate between apparently expert groups who were believers or deniers (Boykoff and
Smith, 2010, p. 5) I intend on speaking at length in my MRP about the ramifications that arise when
equal weight is given to scientific facts that are by facts and alternative facts that are generated by
emotion. Will Potter in Green Is the New Red: An Insider s Account of a Social Movement Under
Siege (2011, p.133) strengthens Boykoff and Smith s arguments by declaring that balancing false
impressions has taken precedence over critical, investigative reporting that speaks truth to power
(Potter 2011, p.133). A similar approach is taken in Erik Kojola s writing s on the political economy of
the news industry that are informed by Potter s claims. Kojola looks at how truth is being
compromised by corporate consolidation, profit demands, and political biases that are shaped by the
ideological position of newspaper owners and editors (2015, p.7). It is useful to draw upon
Freudenburg (2005) who theorizes about privileged accounts that are given precedence in the media
and in doing so, produce conflictual binaries and recreate dominant

The Actor-Network Theory In The Film A Crude Awakening
The Actor Network Theory, also known as ANT, explores the way sociotechnological elements are
assembled as well as how large scale social structures work through various networks of stabilized
materials. It considers both human and non human actors, networks, and actor networks. An actor is
considered anything with the ability to act. This includes human and non human entities. The network
is what ties together people and objects, making the groups interconnected. The Actor Network
Theory looks at how the actors are connected, the links that connect them. It looks are ways in which
various technologies and artifacts help to shape the patterns of society (Larose, 2017).
To analyze the documentary A Crude Awakening we must first identify the actors participating in the
network. The documentary talks about society s dependence on oil and how essential it is to the world
today. The people seem to understand that there are flaws in the use of oil and that it harms the
environment however that doesn t stop people from using it. The documentary talks about oil being
God, an essential item to keep society running. People forget that oil will run out, they forget that
there isn t an unlimited supply. It s a precious resource that will run out sooner than people expect.
Peak oil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The documentary aimed to show people just how limited the supply of oil is and how the network
could eventually totally collapse when we run out. Crude oil is a cheap yet scarce resource that society
relies heavily on. The world has consumed well over half of the conventional oil resources, and from
now on more and more energy is required to extract a declining supply of a lower quality oil. The
public as well as mainstream media completely misunderstand the concept of peak oil. Most people
don t understand that running out of oil means a change to everybody s life. There would be changes
to the way we produce food, the way we

Nellie Bly Research Paper
The lasting Influence of Nellie Bly
Pinorrer of journalism, did not give up, a hero to many traits that all describe Nellie Bly. She got to
this point by being brave and standing out. Nellie Bly was an awe inspiring journalist, women s rights
activist and was known for exposing the corruption in legal and social systems. Blys lasting influence
made a major impact on society s view of women journalist and the legal systems. Nellie Bly was
most influential when it came to journalism in American history.
Growing up Bly had a hard life. At a young age, her father died forcing her mother to take on new
responsibilities. Though her mother remarried three times most of her step dads were abusive and didn
t do much. While everyone else dressed in drab browns and grays, she stood out in pink. Her mother
taught her how to attract attention and revel in it. These were lessons that were never lost. (Bradner,

Habakkuk
Book of Habakkuk The prophet Habakkuk introduced in his Book is not considered a prominent
figure, as he is considered to be one of the twelve Minor Prophets. There is no indication of his
lineage and is just referred to as Habakkuk the prophet in the Biblical text, but due the liturgical nature
of the verses in the book, some scholars have described Habakkuk as a cultic prophet. The apocryphal
and post biblical literatures do not reach a consensus to who he was. Some say that he came from the
tribe of Simeon and others in the tribe of Levi, and information as such is not regarded as true facts,
rather as romanticized add ons of the story, supporting the idea that these were just tacked on as later
details. The estimated date that it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is chaos and violence surrounding him, claiming justice to be perverted, and that essentially,
Yahweh is allowing the wrong to happen. This is not uncommon for prophets to complain to God
about their justified sense of pain. The thing that bothers Habakkuk is whether or not God wants to
save them, or even can in order to show that he is a God true to his values of justice and righteousness.
The main chunk of the prophecy is really delivered in Habakkuk 1:5 11, through the voice of Yahweh.
It is that the Babylonians, a people that God is not commending (Habakkuk 1:6) is going to rise up
and seize the lands, and that they are immensely powerful as well. They mention that they are going to
rule with some resemblance of justice, but it is justice according to their own standards, in response to
Habakkuk s cry of justice. It is not the ideal solution that anyone would look for in this situation.
During the second complaint that Habakkuk brings up, he says that God has made the people like fish,
where there is no ruler, and it would be contradictory to let the wicked whom are designed by Yahweh
for His purpose to take over those who are more righteous. Habakkuk says there is no warrant for
them to continue to seize nations with nothing to rely on besides their own excessive strength and
pride. However, God s response is to write down what he is going to say, in that God calls for patience
and the righteous

Essay On Armoured Cars
The Armoured car, an original idea by Leonardo Da Vinci was a goliath in its time. Even though it was
never used a lot it was still a goliath. I believe that Leonardo Da Vinci s armoured car was the most
important because it was the breakthrough in war technology due to its modern use of new weaponry.
Originally the armoured car was a scare tactic to intimidate the enemy with this big new weapon.
Instead, Leonardo designed it to be a complex fortified weapon that will intimidate as well as kill.
Even though it was only a blueprint his invention shaped the way modern warfare by adding death
bigger death machines as well as complex machinery that is portable and efficient.
The use of the modern weaponry with Leonardo s armoured car was the more portable use of cannons.
Back then cannons were usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As described in the body paragraphs above the armoured car was the idea of putting technology,
portability, armour and weaponry together to make an idea for a new war machine. Let s step back to
the reason why it was thought up in the first place. Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, asking for a new
weapon/scare tactic. Leonardo jumped on this idea and came up with the armoured car. In his letter to
the Duke of Milan he wrote, I can make armored cars, safe and unassailable, which will enter the
closed ranks of the enemy with their artillery, and no company of soldiers is so great that it will not
break through them. And behind these our infantry will be able to follow quite unharmed and without
any opposition. Although it was never built the armoured car eventually became classified as a tank
and was the base of the first real tanks. Since he put portability, armour, weaponry, technology
together, and Leonardo Da Vinci s idea, we now have our modern tanks that protect troops across the
world. This is why I believe that the armoured car was the most important invention during the

According to crisis (a 2015) there were around 7,581 people who slept rough at some point in London
alone during 2014/15, that s around 15 per cent increase on the previous year, and that s nearly double
the figure of 3,673 in 2009/10. The main problem is a lack of housing. The quantity of new houses
being constructed is not keeping up with demand, and the right to buy scheme which allows tenants to
buy their council house, has affected the amount of social housing stock available. There are an
estimated 500,000 people homeless in the UK around the population of Bristol. Crisis has supported
research of 480 homeless single people across the UK that shows almost half of all homeless people
first become homeless under the age of 21, with most repeating the experience again because they do
not get the help they need (channel4, 2014).
The Guardian (2013) states that homelessness has increased for three straight years, partly because of
a housing shortage and multiple cuts to benefits, with roughly 185,000 people a year now affected in
England. Almost two out of twenty people will experience homelessness at some point in their life,
with one in fifty people having experienced homelessness in the last several years (The Guardian
2013). Although there is almost an estimated half a million people

Background
In the contemporary gadgeted era, human patients are continuously monitored during their stay in the
hospital. It gives rise to inconvenience and psychological strain to the patients during their stay in
hospitals. Factors like trauma, pain, treatment cost, time spent and human energy also add up to the
stress and health detoriation, which leads to early discharge from hospital care. This heath issue can be

The Colonization Of Uganda And Kenya
1. Introduction
The colonization of Uganda and Kenya is the reason why they are bilateral countries meaning they
share many of the same interest such as political interest, economic interests etc... Being colonized by
the United Kingdom has affected their history forever, and has made it extremely difficult to be in the
same state as the rest of the world but also allowed both countries to be close with each other as they
shared the same experiences. As they gained their independence, they later formed an East African
Community along with Tanzania who was also colonized by the UK which created many benefits in
the long run. In this paper, I will investigate the benefits of the East African Community over time
specifically with Kenya s and Uganda s trade with coffee.
1.1. Coffee History
Coffee trees were first introduced by the French which were located near the capital of Kenya,
Nairobi. Nairobi was used as the nucleus around which Kenyan coffee growing developed. The British
and European farmers became rich by farming coffee on the backs of the Kenyan workers. With more
experience, Kenyan farmers became more and more powerful. With over 1 million Kikuyu tribe
members calling it home they had real land claims according to the Europeans.
While Arabica was introduced at the beginning of the 1900 s, Robusta coffee is indigenous to the
country, and has been a part of Ugandan life for centuries. Over time growing coffee was not seen as a
job but more of a fun activity to do

Economic Causes Of The American Revolution
The thirteen colonies that became the USA were originally colonies of Great Britain. By the time the
American Revolution took place, the citizens of these colonies were beginning to get tired of the
British rule. Rebellion and discontent were rampant. For those people who see the change in the
American government and society a real Revolution, the Revolution is essentially an economic one.
The main reason the colonies started rebelling against mother England was the taxation issue. The
colonies debated England s legal power to tax them and, furthermore, did not wish to be taxed without
representation. This was one of the main causes of the Revolutionary War. The Revenue Act of 1764
made the constitutional issue of whether or not the King had the right to tax the thirteen colonies an
issue, and this eventually became an entering wedge in the great dispute that was finally to wrest the
American colonies from England (Olsen, 6). It was the phrase taxation without representation that was
to draw many to the cause of the American patriots against the mother country (6).
The reaction against taxation was often violent and the most powerful and articulate groups in the
population rose against the taxation (6). Resolutions denouncing taxation without representation as a
threat to colonial liberties were passed (6). In October of 1765, colonial representatives met on their
own initiative for the first time and decided to mobilize colonial opinion against parliamentary

Purification Of Purification And Purification
When examining the purification data in Table 4, we can analyze the different methods of purification
of LDH and determine how effective each methods is in order to ultimately purify LDH.
Unfortunately, there are two different definitions of purification: one is have a high end yield of the
protein, while the other is having a high end concentration without any contaminating proteins.
Furthermore, in order to achieve one type of purification, the other one has to be given up. The very
first purification step involved the 65% ammonium sulfate cut that resulted in a highest protein
concentration out of all the purification steps. The protein concentration went up from 3.925mg/ml
from the clarified homogenate to 28.11mg/ml, which is resulted of the pelleting out of the LDH and
reducing the volume from 114mL to 5.7mL. Furthermore, the 65% pellet cut was able to recovery
46% of the LDH, while purifying it by 6.8 fold. Also, this step was able to remove 65% of the total
proteins, while retaining 35% of it. Due to the increased purity and 46% recovery of LDH we can
conclude that most of the removed total protein was non LDH, contaminating protiens. Unfortunately,
since this was only the first purification step, the amount of comtaminating proteins is still fairly high
as depicted in Figure 14, where the 65% cut pellet contains several dark bands besides the one at
35kDa. The second purification step involved the affinity chromatography column that resulted in a

2nd PARAGRAPH : The Achaemneid force.
The Persian or Achaemenid force was an essential part of the extension of the Persian Empire. The
Persian army is said to be 3,000,000 warriors strong, with 2,641,610 soldiers,70,000 infantry,9,000
horsemen.
The Immortals:
The Immortals were an elite regiment of handpicked men trained from childhood into elite warriors.
They were imperial guards of the Achaemenid Sahs. Achaemenid brick reliefs in Persepolis represent
the Immortals as wearing elaborate robes and golden jewellery, although these garments would have
only been worn for ceremonial occasions as they would be impractical in warfare. Cyrus the Great
was the founder of the Immortals. During Cyrus s conquests, 10,000 of his finest troops were gathered
together to create a new regiment the Immortals. These were all Iranian men who loyally served the
King to their death. Only Iranians could join the Immortal regiment. They were trained from

Globalization In Chile
Chile has become a market oriented economy characterized by high levels of foreign trade, strong
financial institutions and sound policy that have given it the strongest sovereign rating in South
America. Over the last decade, FDI has represented an annual average of over 6 percent of Chile s
GDP. Exports of goods and services accounted for approximately one third of GDP, with commodities
making up three quarters of total exports. Copper provides 19% of government revenues. The mining
sector attracts 50.1 % of implemented FDI under DL600, followed by services (26.6 %); electricity,

The Evergreen Marching Band And Colorguard
The Evergreen Marching Band and Colorguard (EMBC) has stewed in accomplishment, success, and
hard work, for more than two decades. People don t know, that we re not just a normal halftime
marching band we are a competitive marching band. Like any football, drill, or soccer team, EMBC
strives to compete amongst the greats. For a couple decades, EMBC has marched to success and we
don t want to stop now; however, the competitive program was close to being slashed this year, due to
lack of funds. Students and parents raged at the thought of no competitive season. Competing is the
best part for everyone in this program. If we lost that it wouldn t be as much fun. We were so far in
debt that if we couldn t raise enough money, it would ve been game over.
If we had more money in our budget to do our competitive season, we would not have to say goodbye
to competing. The program receives a mere $1000, for the whole band program, as said by the band
director. That is not enough for our program. My school district needs to fund the EMBC program
separately from the regular band programs. I am not saying that their program isn t as important, but
we, the EMBC, require more funding for our award winning program. It is a sport, and therefore
merits the full funding like any other team. A way we can do that is by moving around funding from
teams who don t require as much and move it towards the ones that do, like us. One example of this,
would be to move excess funding from one

How Did Louis Xiv Influence Art
Louis XIV s symbol was the sun. He chose this because the sun is the center of the universe and all of
the planets orbit around it, just as he wanted all of France to orbit around him. Louis XIV showed his
absolutist values within art of the 17th century. He controlled what was acceptable to create and
perform, he controlled art education all throughout France, and he controlled the style of the time.
Louis XIV and everyone under him treated the arts as an important branch of government. He founded
famous royal academies of dance, painting, architecture, and music as well as furniture workshops and
royal tapestry workshops that bore his name. Painting flourished in 17th century France, and by
creating academies and a good art education King Louis XIV was able to spread the French style,
culture, and art around the world. He founded the Academy of Fine Art which established rules and
conventions that artists were subject to when painting. King Louis XIV had complete control over
what artists could paint. Throughout the 17th century French paintings progressed from a more ...

How Is Music Used In The Joker
Music plays an important role in a films experience. It is significant in films because it sets the tone as
well as enhances the film in many different aspects. It is meant to engage the audience and evoke
emotion from them. The Dark Knight is arguably the best movie within the Batman Trilogy by
Christopher Nolan. Simply put the film is just epic. Yes the action is great and the late Heath Ledger s
portrayal of The Joker is superb, but it s the film s original score from Hans Zimmer and James
Newton Howard that gives The Dark Knight it s grand feeling. The movies opening scene starts off
with the track Why So Serious . This track is used for almost every scene The Joker is present in The
Dark Knight. The sound is strange and gives an uneasy feel which matches perfectly with the type of
character The Joker is, unpleasant. It has the effect that it makes us ... Show more content on

portrays how much beyond normal intellect the Joker is. It gives us the opportunity to stop a second
during the movie and notice all the issues about the Joker. It is a personal moment of conquest for him.
Christopher Nolan is trying to hint that the Joker says a lot of true things in the film. He leaves you
almost one hundred percent incapable of disagreeing with him. The silence in this scene proves itself
most dramatic and would have been less effective with music in my

Vision, Truth, and Genre in the Merchant s Tale Essays
Vision, Truth, and Genre in the Merchant s Tale
In the Book of Genesis, Adam and Eve eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, which gives
them greater powers of perception but also causes their expulsion from Paradise. The story creates a
link between clear vision and the ability to perceive the truth‹which, in this case, causes mankind to
fall from a state of blissful ignorance to one of miserable knowledge. In the Merchant s Tale, vision
and truth do not enjoy such an easy relationship. Vision is obstructed at both the metaphorical and the
literal level, and the subversion of the fabliau genre challenges the idea of truthful representation. The
Merchant s Tale destabilizes the notion of representation itself, ... Show more content on

For modern readers, it is perhaps impossible to read this description without being reminded of video
surveillance. By this point in the story, Chaucer had made the reader aware that the fabliau form will
not be strictly followed: in addition to taking upper class people as characters and situating itself in a
vice ridden city (Pearsall 4/12), the tale deals with images‹like this mirror‹that are much more
unsettling than standard fabliau fare. This destabilization of genre seems to call representation itself
into question; the reader is not allowed the comfort of being firmly situated in a genre, and instead is
made aware of Chaucer s play with storytelling s conventions. Such awareness of storytelling s
malleability should naturally make the reader more wary of any truth that might present itself.
The mirror itself challenges the link between representation and truth‹the images January sees are
reconstructions/reflections, rather than the women themselves. Furthermore, the mirror is not even
real. It is the poet s metaphor, itself another kind of reconstruction, and so the reader becomes twice
removed from these women who are being represented. January bases his non visual assessment of
these women not on direct interaction but on hearsay; it is their reputation among the people that
determines what he thinks of their characters (ll. 1591 2). The mirror becomes a metaphorical space in
which January can appraise

Euthanasia Persuasive Essay
An Avoidable Loss
Death by choice or euthanasia is a very controversial subject that is typically one sided. The very
concept of death alone is somewhat a taboo, but controlling death itself is another monster. Death by
choice or euthanasia should not be legalized because it promotes defeatism, may lead to the strict
procedures to become more accessible to people with non fatal illnesses, could legitimize murder, or
pressure the elderly.
When an unfortunate illness befalls, people have a tendency to become depressed and feel defeated.
They start fearing the pain and the deterioration that may lie ahead, thus they become disillusioned
and hasty looking for a way out. Euthanasia offers a way out but, this pessimistic end could have been

Murder and manslaughter are very serious offenses that lead to life and jail or the death sentence.
Euthanasia could lead to doctors getting away with murder because no one would know if the patient
gave consent instead of the doctor. It only becomes more troublesome with involuntary euthanasia for
patients that are competent or conscious, since they can t defend themselves nor give consent to the
doctor or their family. In a Dutch survey that was reviewed by the Journal of Medical Ethics in 1995
stated that out of 3,600 authorized cases, nine hundred of these cases doctors didn t have explicit

consent was because the patients had dementia or weren t competent. However, in fifteen percent of
the cases in the second surveys, the doctors avoided any discussion because they thought they were
acting in the patient s best interest( Involuntary Euthanasia is Out of Control in Holland 8). In a

As soon as my client and I started recording the session, I found myself focusing very hard on Egan s

entirely incoherent, watching the video back, I was able to notice trembling in my voice, and I was
almost nervous laughing. We had already agreed on the positioning of the chairs before filming,
however the room the session was taking place in wasn t big enough, and we therefore found
ourselves a little cramped. Nevertheless, the room size didn t become too much of a problem, as I was
still able to position myself accordingly, allowing myself to face my client squarely enough. My
posture remains open throughout the session, although I have noticed I didn t lean in towards the
client at any point. I remember during the session I did keep thinking, should I lean in soon? , but I
could never find a moment where I d be able to lean in naturally, and without having to force myself
to do so. I certainly think for this specific aspect of counselling, I was focusing too much on making
sure I was giving a counselling session properly, instead of forgetting about the camera and letting
myself flow into it naturally. I tried my upmost hardest to maintain eye contact throughout the session,
however it is something I struggle with on a regular basis anyway. I can never pinpoint where the line

teachers, men and women alike conscious of the same feelings of physical aversion (Cather 44). Paul s
teachers believe something is wrong because of his disdain and contempt for learning. Paul s defiance
is a result of his love for his fantasies of the high life . He hates his life at home on Cordelia Street and
he wishes to live the lives of performers; the life with money. In Elizabeth Hick s criticism, she

years old and coming from a large family from the demanding city life , is moved to her grandmother

It causes the reader to perhaps question their own decision making and shows the author s avoidance
of romanticism. Using romantic appeal takes away from the intentions of the story; Furthermore, this
intention being the sacrifice of love to another being and, instead, to the appeal of nature.
(Consider a better transition into the new topic. You can add transition word or add connecting
sentence to the previous paragraph) Realism is the key style in A White Heron . This element avoids a
fairy tale feeling to the story and, rather, allows it to focus on more important issues. The author shows
this in Sylvia s development of her feelings towards the sportsman and how she regards those feelings
in order to embrace individualism and knows that whatever treasures were lost to her, woodlands and
summer time, remember! the wilderness is a part of who she is (Jewett 71). This is the point where she
neglects her feelings for the hunter and, instead, realizes her own true feelings towards the countryside
and what it has offered to her and will continually provide for her own spiritual and personal needs.
Not only is realism used in Sylvia s focus on real life in the moment events, but in other minor uses
such as the setting. The story takes place within the parameters of Sylvia s clean and
comfortable...little dwelling in a middle to lower level class community that does not rebel at the
companionship of hens (Jewett 65).

What Are The Six Abiotic Factors That Affect Coral Reefs
Six abiotic factors that affect the organisms living in the ecosystem are sunlight, temperature, the
density, the buoyancy level, the salinity level, and the penetration of light. The sunlight entering the
ecosystem allows the process of photosynthesis to continue. This process provided nutrients, food, and
energy to the plants and animals in the area, allowing the food chain to be secure. The temperature of
the water should be between 68 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperatures go lower than the range,
or higher, some organisms who use the coral reef as a habitat may not be able to adapt or survive in
the new conditions. The density of the coral reef affects the communities of animals and other biotic
factors since some of them can only survive between certain depths of the water. The buoyancy level
of the water in the coral reef contributes to the ability to move for the animals. Buoyancy is the force
that supports an organism s weight. The salinity level in a coral reef is greater than the salinity in a
freshwater ecosystem. If the salinity levels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Conflict Resolution
Conflict Resolution
Whenever there are people, there always will be conflict. Opinions vary, misunderstandings and
miscommunications occur, and people have different values and priorities. All of these things create
conflict in our life and at work. The problem is not conflict itself, but rather how we deal with it. As
long as it is resolved effectively, conflict can lead to personal and professional growth. There is no
universal accepted definition of conflict. Conflict can be viewed as functional or dysfunctional
depending on how each person perceives it, manages it and resolves it. (Iglesias Vallejo, 2012)

Virtues he tells us are like diverse judgments of excellence or admirableness and you cannot reduce to

why? Because X has characteristics of A, B, and C which are excellent. He goes on to tell us that he

He speaks to us that a particular person s moral character is a big discussion of their particular traits.
He says that if we think courage, generosity and justice are virtues and we need to think about other
things that are equal and that is more excellent. He compares courageous with cowardly and generous
with stingy and kind with unjust ways. He tells us that his book involves much reflection about traits

Outsourcing Research Paper
Throughout my paper, my point is to portray the effect of the outsourcing of American occupations
abroad. There are two strong arguments with outsourcing: one that accepts the handiness and profits of
the outsourcing and the other that energetically restricts outsourcing and focus on its negatives.
Government organizations accept that outsourcing may decrease the expense of the assembling of
items and give administrations less expensive cost, and others feel that outsourcing has triggered huge
layoffs and loss of jobs. America needs to cease outsourcing due to the negative effects it has on our
country. Outsourcing takes occupations away from Americans, causes considerably more economic
issues, and can lessen the quality of materials. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The driving components for outsourcing are clear: lesser expenses all the way around. A machine
software engineer in India makes $5,880 to $11,000, while an American machine software engineer
wins in the middle of $60,000 and $80,000. American organizations stand to spare measures of cash
by outsourcing. Today, gauges of employment misfortune in the United States propose that in the last
ten years, between 400,000 to 500,000 data engineering preparing jobs have been outsourced. While
this speaks to a moderately little parcel of the United States work power of around 130 million
laborers (Tyson), concerns over the loss of profoundly talented employees and expectations that the
outsourcing pattern will keep on growing have made outsourcing an imperative and questionable
subject. Unfortunately, the wave of outsourcing is going to continue in the United States, and it is only
going to get worse. A UC Berkeley s Haas School of Business study noted that near 11 percent of all
occupations in the United States are helpless to outsourcing. Further, gauges demonstrate that
outsourcing is going to be an ongoing Phenom, as Forrester Research evaluates that by 2015, the
United States will lose 3.3 million jobs to outsourcing. Different assessments are higher, as
Researchers Ashok Deo Bardhan and

The Theme Of Dreams In The Crossover
In The Crossover written by Kwame Alexander, there are many themes that readers can find in the
novel. One of the themes is that dream is very important for one to live a better life. This is also the
theme in the poem Dreams written by Langston Hughes. Having one s own dream is very important
because the process of achieving the dream is more of value than the result itself. Dreams can enrich
people s lives and lighten their inside world. In The Crossover, Josh Bell is fond of playing basketball
and his dream is to go to the University of Duke. In order to reach his goal, he practices so hard in
school and home. I let him win and get ready to practice harder, (Alexander 57). The coach says one
who runs the fastest does not need to practice. Josh Bell is the quickest on the team; however, he
deliberately lets Vondie win. This is because he wants to practice more and become stronger than
anyone else on the team. It is an example of how Josh tries to make his dream come true. In the
process of realizing his dreams, Josh not only improves his basketball skills, but he also fulfills his life
by making friends with his teammates. In the poem Dreams, the writer says that Hold fast to dreams/
For when dreams go/ Life is a barren field/ Frozen with snow, (Hughes 5 8). These lines show that
dream is what brings people joy of life. If one does not have his own dream to realize, one will not
feel any passion in life. According to the two pieces of text, dream lightens people s

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time Essay by...
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Essay Mr. Boone is not completely evil because he
has good intentions behind many of his misdeeds. He only wants what is best for Christopher. Mr.
Boone accepts Christopher s special needs and wants him to succeed in life. He helps Christopher a lot
more than anyone else, even Judy Boone; Christopher s mother doesn t help Christopher as much.
Although Ed Boone s immoral actions were evil, the good intentions, helpfulness, and patience that he
displays toward his son, Christopher proves that Mr. Boone is the evil figure with an ultimately good
heart. Ed shows a lot of helpfulness to everyone and especially Christopher. This is what lets Ed be so

Ed stood up for Christopher when someone under estimated him and this let Christopher succeed on to
becoming what he wants to be. Ed Boone has good intentions toward Christopher and only wishes the
best for him, even though his actions and decisions are not always the best. He hid the letters, that
Christopher s mother sent Christopher. He also lied to Christopher about his mother, telling
Christopher that she died of a heart attack. Even though the things Ed did look evil and bad hearted, he
did it out of love. Just like he killed Wellington, Mrs. Shears dog, because he loved her and she
rejected him, and Ed got out of control. Ed lied and hid the letters from Christopher because
Christopher, being a person with special needs, did not feel sad and take the divorce and separation of
his parents too deeply and harshly. Ed also did this so Christopher would not leave him, because Ed
loves him a lot. After Ed found out that Christopher read the letters, he apologized and said, I m sorry,
Christopher, I m so, so sorry [Page 114]. Ed even said and told Christopher it was for his safety and
for good, that it was all for a good cause. Ed said,
I did it for your good, Christopher. Honestly I did. I never meant to lie. I just thought... I just thought it
was better if you didn t know... that... that... I didn t mean to... I was going to show them to you when
you were older [Page 114].

The Company s BlackBerry Curve series include BlackBerry Curve 9350/9360/9370 and All Touch
BlackBerry Curve 9380 Smartphone. The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet features the BlackBerry
PlayBook OS 2.0. The BlackBerry PlayBook offers a seven inch high definition display, a dual core
one gigahertz processor, dual high definition cameras, multitasking and a Web browsing.
The company introduced its first BlackBerry device in 1999. For e mail obsessed Wall Streeters and
other corporate users, it was a godsend. BlackBerry pioneered push e mail, meaning that users simply
received their messages when they were sent, instead of having to constantly check for new e mails.
BlackBerry s QWERTY keyboard was like an epiphany: no more pecking at a numeric keypad to eke
out messages. In the years that followed, the BlackBerry keyboard spawned a whole generation of
dual thumb e mail warriors.
As the BlackBerry exploded in popularity, especially among business customers, the company became
Canada s most valuable firm, leading some to dub Waterloo Canada s Silicon Valley. But while
BlackBerry was resting on its laurels atop the corporate mobile market, Apple and Google were laser
focused on the consumer market, which they correctly predicted would drive Smartphone adoption. In
January 2012, BlackBerry announced that its co CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis would step

Vittorio de Sica s The Bicycle Thief Essay
Vittorio de Sica s The Bicycle Thief
Since the beginning of its existence as a country, Italy has faced enormous challenges in establishing
itself as a unified political and social entity. The geographic, economic, and linguistic differences
between its various regions and the artificial manner in which they were amalgamated created a legacy
of internal divisions that continues to dominate the country s political climate to this day. Italy s
numerous historical fiascoes, such as its disastrous involvement in the two World Wars and the rise of
fascism, further escalated the domestic problems that had haunted it since the Risorgimento. At first,
the anti fascist Resistance movement, which dominated the end of World War II, seemed to ... Show

Originally applied to the government of Agostino Depretis in the 1880s, transformismo quickly
became equated with any ethically questionable, self interested actions taken by public officials purely
for the sake of staying in office and maintaining power. This often manifested itself in the creation of a
smoke screen of reformatory rhetoric intended to satisfy the electorate, without a subsequent
introduction of any real reforms. The colonialist manner in which Piedmont annexed the other regions
to create a united Italy during the Risorgimento and the divisions inherent in the new kingdom
resulted in a historical compromise that made any deliberate social change very difficult.
Consequently, Italian leaders of the destra storica and sinistra storica (the first two eras of Italian
political history) shifted their focus from meaningful governance to the practice of transformismo,
permanently shaping the face of Italian political life. The prevailing motto of this practice was
captured perfectly in a line from Luchino Visconti s 1963 film, The Leopard: Things must change in
order to stay the same.
Attendismo, the other type of quasi action, was a tendency of the leftist Italian parties to passively
wait for change to occur from the outside, without taking any substantial revolutionary action on their
own. The Socialist Party s slogan No support, but no

Chivalry And Froissart s Image Of The Hundred Years War
Chivalry as a concept is something that has baffled many medieval historians over the years. Chivalry
was supposing a code that knights and nobles were to live their lives by however like many social
structures of the past historians have debated over what exactly chivalry was. According to Sir Walter
Scott chivalry was meant to be a code which knights could aspire to not necessarily carry out. His
description does seem to be accurate. Chivalric principles could not be carried out in real life.
Froissart s image of The Hundred Years War are romanticised in such a way that the historian must be
careful not to take a lot of the text too seriously. Perhaps we should forgive Froissart for this,
compared to modern standards his accuracy would fall short simply given the time he lived in. His
accounts often came from supposed eyewitnesses that would of course have manipulated their
accounts to suit themselves. Therefore when reading Froissart s Chronicles and concluding whether or
not his accounts are accurate one must take caution and remember the purpose of his writings and who
he is working for when completing them. Froissart s intentions are quite obvious from the beginning
of the text. He claims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many ways comparisants can be drawn from feudalism. Unlike feudalism chivalry is a medieval
concept that was mentioned by contemporaries at the time. It does seem that the term chivalry is like,
feudalism a very simplified way of explaining the past. The fact is when we look at contemporaries of
the time they all have different oppinions on definitions of chivalry and over who were chivalrous
leaders and armies at the time. It seems more likely that chivalry was used as a concept to aim to live
by where enimies would be ridiculed if they were not to do so themselves no mater what the attitude

What Is The Vietnam War Essay
As I read though out the many different perspectives on the issue of war between the United States
and Vietnam, my most reasonable conclusion is that I have to consider the Vietnam War as a failure
for the United States.
At the beginning of President Kennedy s administration, he sent Vice President Johnson to Vietnam on
a mission to find evidence, because he wanted to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy kept
sending many American military advisors to Vietnam, but the tyrannical leadership methods of South
Vietnam President Diem made President Kennedy s efforts useless. As the number of beaten up
military advisors increased, so did the disagreements about Kennedy s policies in Vietnam. In my
opinion, Kennedy s reasons for sending military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Johnson made it clear to the American population and to the United States Ambassador to
South Vietnam, that he is not going to lose to the spread of communist in Vietnam, nor is he going to
send another American military troops and advisors to fight in Vietnam. In stead, he stated that the
Vietnamese could fight for themselves. However, Johnson s view of not involving in the war changed
drastically after the North Vietnamese torpedo boats attacked the United States destroyers in the Gulf
of Tonkin. As a revenge to this attack, President Johnson approved to counter attack North Vietnam.
By 1965, North Vietnamese were fully supported by the Soviet Union and China making the American
army to take out even more air support and ground forces into the South Vietnam. This cost American
government tremendous amount of money and lives. North Vietnam, along with the help from Soviet
Union and China, fully committed itself to defeating the United States and forces of South Vietnam.
American people questioned how did their army even fought against North Vietnam when there was
no realistic change for the Americans to trouble the North

Factors That Led To The Fall Of The Roman Republic
Three ideals and traditions of the Roman Republic, lust for power, greed, and loyalty, each contributed
to the collapse of the Republic. Desire for power played a major role in the collapse of the Republic
because Caesar, the man who arguably began the Republic s downfall, marched on Rome because he
wanted power. The second ideal that led to the Republic s collapse was greed and the power of money,
for example bribing officials in Rome, Crassus shocking alliance with Caesar, and Pompey s strategy
to fight Caesar during the first civil war. The last ideal that aided the downfall of the Republic was
loyalty, specifically citizens loyalty to political leaders or military generals, loyalty between generals
and their veterans, and loyalty between political leaders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the collapse of the Republic, Sulla, a roman patrician, declared himself dictator and used
proscription lists, a list of people posted in the forum who were declared enemies of the state, to
maintain his power. This example shows how lust for power was inherent and already destructive in
the Republic, prior to its collapse. Similar to lust for power, greed could be found within the Republic
before its collapse. For example, patricians, aristocrats, would buy farmland from plebeians who were
serving in the army, and they used the land to increase their wealth. Lastly, loyalty was viewed as an
important aspect of the Republic, specifically loyalty to politicians, family, and the Republic s beliefs.
Most Roman households had some allegiance to a certain politician and would support that politician
despite their own personal beliefs. These three ideals of the Republic were established and followed
long before the collapse of the Republic, and all three grew into destructive forces that caused the
collapse of the

Being Unloved War And Memory Summary
World War II was devastating to an many involved and much damage has been done on both sides,
physically and mentally. To Japan WWII is known as the fifteen year war as some may not have
regarded, Japan s view of the war is radically different from the U.S. and others involved. An aptitude
for being unloved: War and Memory , Dower s essay demonstrates that Japan viewed themselves as
victims of the war rather than aggressors, and that some aspects of the war were whitewashed , but
this isn t solely unique to Japan in this situation. As it is common in most every history, especially in
America who are still reluctant in admitting responsibility to the Vietnam war or slavery. As well as
setting a reminder to listeners of how Americans excussed the emperor from responsibility. ... Show

Nietzsche Vs Kant
Most importantly, similar to Spinoza before him, Nietzsche is a naturalist and a determinist. People
are not favored over different creatures rather, similar to them, we are a piece of a causal web that
contains the entire universe. Where different scholars talk about the opportunity of the human will,
Nietzsche discloses to us that the will is neither free nor unfree, yet rather solid or frail. For Simon
Blackburn he was the primary thinker to attempt to acclimatize Darwinism. Nietzsche s The
Genealogy of Morals is an activity in creature brain research , considering (in Nietzsche s own
particular words) the physiology and developmental history of living beings and ideas. In various
other focal works Nietzsche holds onto science as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant considers us to be following up on the premise of reasons. Being the determinist he is, and taking
the perspective on human instinct he does, Nietzsche can have no truck with this. We are not generally
cognizant deliberators: rather, he lets us know, by a long shot the best some portion of our soul s
action stays oblivious and unfelt. (The Gay Science, p333.) Knobe and Leiter make the surprising
stride of seeing to what degree late exploratory discoveries in brain research bolster either Nietzsche
or Kant. They have little trouble in demonstrating that Nietzsche is to a great extent vindicated.
Generally we are not levelheaded practitioners: the view that we pick our activities from a point of
view of deliberative separation is by all accounts a Kantian myth. There seems, by all accounts, to be
no broad agreement between our mentalities and convictions, and our activities as a result, we say a
certain something, yet do another. As opposed to representing reasons, we tend to act, and design
reasons thereafter. In Nietzschean terms, the body demonstrations, and, f illed as it is with apparitions
and will o the wisps, the mind then dishonestly appropriates that activity for its own particular
justificatory purposes. As a rule, Nietzsche takes take pleasure in demonstrating to us how we cheat

The Jiff Lemon Case
1) Advise Markt whether Markt might be liable to NeemMiracle Ltd in Australia and New Zealand for
launching their neem oil hair care products under the brand name Mira Neem.
Is Markt at risk and liable to NeemMiracle with respect to Trade Mark infringement, passing off,
misleading or deceptive conduct?
No Trade Mark infringement for two reasons;
a) The mark or get up being used by Markt only similar in colour and not necessarily name, the word
neem may be argued to be descriptive. and
b) NeemMiracle has not registered the trademark in either Australia or New Zealand.
There may be a case for passing off under common law and/or misleading and deceptive conduct
under S 18 ACL . An action in passing off deals only with misrepresentation, for an action in passing
off to be successful we can refer to the classical trinity . In the Jiff Lemon Case Lord Oliver set out
three tests for an action in passing off to be met. The classical trinity has been used as a touchstone for
passing off.
It can be argued that the getup of the Mira Neem product(s) is adopting a similar style or mark to
NeemMiracle with respect to choice of colour, font and naming of the product; further argued that the
confusing labelling of the product without any disclaimer may misrepresent the Mira Neem product as
part of the products currently produced and marketed by NeemMiracle.
NeemMiracle has a reputation in New Zealand and Australia, NeemMiracle has been in New Zealand
since 1990 and in

  • 2. Climate Denialism Alberta s denial of anthropogenic climate change Hegemonic ideology is shaped in the news by Murphy s above mentioned notion of discursive framing. Murphy, however makes the sweeping assumption that discursive framing can be applied to similar conflicts, but this is not always the case. For the purpose of this literature review, discursive framing will only be applied to the concept of climate denialism that runs rampant in the Calgary Herald. Murphy (2015, p.355) asserts, denial, dismissal, diversion and displacement are the four strategies that institutions use in order to exclude uncomfortable knowledge. In view of this, I hypothesize that the Herald will use tactics in order to increase readership and prevent readers from having to wrestle with new concepts on the subject of climate change. Boykoff and Smith would be critical of the Calgary Herald and criticize it for presenting climate change as an evenly balanced debate between apparently expert groups who were believers or deniers (Boykoff and Smith, 2010, p. 5) I intend on speaking at length in my MRP about the ramifications that arise when equal weight is given to scientific facts that are by facts and alternative facts that are generated by emotion. Will Potter in Green Is the New Red: An Insider s Account of a Social Movement Under Siege (2011, p.133) strengthens Boykoff and Smith s arguments by declaring that balancing false impressions has taken precedence over critical, investigative reporting that speaks truth to power (Potter 2011, p.133). A similar approach is taken in Erik Kojola s writing s on the political economy of the news industry that are informed by Potter s claims. Kojola looks at how truth is being compromised by corporate consolidation, profit demands, and political biases that are shaped by the ideological position of newspaper owners and editors (2015, p.7). It is useful to draw upon Freudenburg (2005) who theorizes about privileged accounts that are given precedence in the media and in doing so, produce conflictual binaries and recreate dominant ... The Actor-Network Theory In The Film A Crude Awakening The Actor Network Theory, also known as ANT, explores the way sociotechnological elements are assembled as well as how large scale social structures work through various networks of stabilized materials. It considers both human and non human actors, networks, and actor networks. An actor is considered anything with the ability to act. This includes human and non human entities. The network is what ties together people and objects, making the groups interconnected. The Actor Network Theory looks at how the actors are connected, the links that connect them. It looks are ways in which various technologies and artifacts help to shape the patterns of society (Larose, 2017). To analyze the documentary A Crude Awakening we must first identify the actors participating in the network. The documentary talks about society s dependence on oil and how essential it is to the world today. The people seem to understand that there are flaws in the use of oil and that it harms the environment however that doesn t stop people from using it. There is no indication of his lineage and is just referred to as Habakkuk the prophet in the Biblical text, but due the liturgical nature of the verses in the book, some scholars have described Habakkuk as a cultic prophet. The apocryphal and post biblical literatures do not reach a consensus to who he was. This is not uncommon for prophets to complain to God about their justified sense of pain. The thing that bothers Habakkuk is whether or not God wants to save them, or even can in order to show that he is a God true to his values of justice and righteousness. The main chunk of the prophecy is really delivered in Habakkuk 1:5 11, through the voice of Yahweh. It is that the Babylonians, a people that God is not commending (Habakkuk 1:6) is going to rise up and seize the lands, and that they are immensely powerful as well. They mention that they are going to rule with some resemblance of justice, but it is justice according to their own standards, in response to Habakkuk s cry of justice. It is not the ideal solution that anyone would look for in this situation. During the second complaint that Habakkuk brings up, he says that God has made the people like fish, where there is no ruler, and it would be contradictory to let the wicked whom are designed by Yahweh for His purpose to take over those who are more righteous. Habakkuk says there is no warrant for them to continue to seize nations with nothing to rely on besides their own excessive strength and pride. Leonardo jumped on this idea and came up with the armoured car. In his letter to the Duke of Milan he wrote, I can make armored cars, safe and unassailable, which will enter the closed ranks of the enemy with their artillery, and no company of soldiers is so great that it will not break through them. And behind these our infantry will be able to follow quite unharmed and without any opposition. Although it was never built the armoured car eventually became classified as a tank and was the base of the first real tanks. By the time the American Revolution took place, the citizens of these colonies were beginning to get tired of the British rule. Rebellion and discontent were rampant. For those people who see the change in the American government and society a real Revolution, the Revolution is essentially an economic one. The main reason the colonies started rebelling against mother England was the taxation issue. The colonies debated England s legal power to tax them and, furthermore, did not wish to be taxed without representation. This was one of the main causes of the Revolutionary War. The Revenue Act of 1764 made the constitutional issue of whether or not the King had the right to tax the thirteen colonies an issue, and this eventually became an entering wedge in the great dispute that was finally to wrest the American colonies from England (Olsen, 6). It was the phrase taxation without representation that was to draw many to the cause of the American patriots against the mother country (6). The reaction against taxation was often violent and the most powerful and articulate groups in the population rose against the taxation (6). Resolutions denouncing taxation without representation as a threat to colonial liberties were passed (6). Purification Of Purification And Purification When examining the purification data in Table 4, we can analyze the different methods of purification of LDH and determine how effective each methods is in order to ultimately purify LDH. Unfortunately, there are two different definitions of purification: one is have a high end yield of the protein, while the other is having a high end concentration without any contaminating proteins. Furthermore, in order to achieve one type of purification, the other one has to be given up. The very first purification step involved the 65% ammonium sulfate cut that resulted in a highest protein concentration out of all the purification steps. The protein concentration went up from 3.925mg/ml from the clarified homogenate to 28.11mg/ml, which is resulted of the pelleting out of the LDH and reducing the volume from 114mL to 5.7mL. Furthermore, the 65% pellet cut was able to recovery 46% of the LDH, while purifying it by 6.8 fold. Also, this step was able to remove 65% of the total proteins, while retaining 35% of it. Due to the increased purity and 46% recovery of LDH we can conclude that most of the removed total protein was non LDH, contaminating protiens. Unfortunately, since this was only the first purification step, the amount of comtaminating proteins is still fairly high as depicted in Figure 14, where the 65% cut pellet contains several dark bands besides the one at 35kDa. People don t know, that we re not just a normal halftime marching band we are a competitive marching band. Like any football, drill, or soccer team, EMBC strives to compete amongst the greats. For a couple decades, EMBC has marched to success and we don t want to stop now; however, the competitive program was close to being slashed this year, due to lack of funds. Students and parents raged at the thought of no competitive season. Competing is the best part for everyone in this program. If we lost that it wouldn t be as much fun. We were so far in debt that if we couldn t raise enough money, it would ve been game over. If we had more money in our budget to do our competitive season, we would not have to say goodbye to competing. The program receives a mere $1000, for the whole band program, as said by the band director. That is not enough for our program. My school district needs to fund the EMBC program separately from the regular band programs. I am not saying that their program isn t as important, but we, the EMBC, require more funding for our award winning program. It is a sport, and therefore merits the full funding like any other team. A way we can do that is by moving around funding from teams who don t require as much and move it towards the ones that do, like us. One example of this, would be to move excess funding from one ... Vision, Truth, and Genre in the Merchant s Tale Essays Vision, Truth, and Genre in the Merchant s Tale In the Book of Genesis, Adam and Eve eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, which gives them greater powers of perception but also causes their expulsion from Paradise. The story creates a link between clear vision and the ability to perceive the truth‹which, in this case, causes mankind to fall from a state of blissful ignorance to one of miserable knowledge. In the Merchant s Tale, vision and truth do not enjoy such an easy relationship. For modern readers, it is perhaps impossible to read this description without being reminded of video surveillance. By this point in the story, Chaucer had made the reader aware that the fabliau form will not be strictly followed: in addition to taking upper class people as characters and situating itself in a vice ridden city (Pearsall 4/12), the tale deals with images‹like this mirror‹that are much more unsettling than standard fabliau fare. This destabilization of genre seems to call representation itself into question; the reader is not allowed the comfort of being firmly situated in a genre, and instead is made aware of Chaucer s play with storytelling s conventions. Such awareness of storytelling s malleability should naturally make the reader more wary of any truth that might present itself. The mirror itself challenges the link between representation and truth‹the images January sees are reconstructions/reflections, rather than the women themselves. Furthermore, the mirror is not even real. It is the poet s metaphor, itself another kind of reconstruction, and so the reader becomes twice removed from these women who are being represented. January bases his non visual assessment of these women not on direct interaction but on hearsay; it is their reputation among the people that determines what he thinks of their characters (ll. 1591 2). What Are The Six Abiotic Factors That Affect Coral Reefs Six abiotic factors that affect the organisms living in the ecosystem are sunlight, temperature, the density, the buoyancy level, the salinity level, and the penetration of light. The sunlight entering the ecosystem allows the process of photosynthesis to continue. This process provided nutrients, food, and energy to the plants and animals in the area, allowing the food chain to be secure. The temperature of the water should be between 68 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperatures go lower than the range, or higher, some organisms who use the coral reef as a habitat may not be able to adapt or survive in the new conditions. The density of the coral reef affects the communities of animals and other biotic factors since some of them can only survive between certain depths of the water. • 41. The Theme Of Dreams In The Crossover In The Crossover written by Kwame Alexander, there are many themes that readers can find in the novel. One of the themes is that dream is very important for one to live a better life. This is also the theme in the poem Dreams written by Langston Hughes. Having one s own dream is very important because the process of achieving the dream is more of value than the result itself. Dreams can enrich people s lives and lighten their inside world. In The Crossover, Josh Bell is fond of playing basketball and his dream is to go to the University of Duke. In order to reach his goal, he practices so hard in school and home. I let him win and get ready to practice harder, (Alexander 57). The coach says one who runs the fastest does not need to practice. Josh Bell is the quickest on the team; however, he deliberately lets Vondie win. This is because he wants to practice more and become stronger than anyone else on the team. It is an example of how Josh tries to make his dream come true. In the process of realizing his dreams, Josh not only improves his basketball skills, but he also fulfills his life by making friends with his teammates. In the poem Dreams, the writer says that Hold fast to dreams/ For when dreams go/ Life is a barren field/ Frozen with snow, (Hughes 5 8). These lines show that dream is what brings people joy of life. If one does not have his own dream to realize, one will not feel any passion in life. According to the two pieces of text, dream lightens people s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time Essay Mr. Boone is not completely evil because he has good intentions behind many of his misdeeds. He only wants what is best for Christopher. Mr. Boone accepts Christopher s special needs and wants him to succeed in life. He helps Christopher a lot more than anyone else, even Judy Boone; Christopher s mother doesn t help Christopher as much. Although Ed Boone s immoral actions were evil, the good intentions, helpfulness, and patience that he displays toward his son, Christopher proves that Mr. Boone is the evil figure with an ultimately good heart. Ed stood up for Christopher when someone under estimated him and this let Christopher succeed on to becoming what he wants to be. Ed Boone has good intentions toward Christopher and only wishes the best for him, even though his actions and decisions are not always the best. He hid the letters, that Christopher s mother sent Christopher. He also lied to Christopher about his mother, telling Christopher that she died of a heart attack. Even though the things Ed did look evil and bad hearted, he did it out of love. Just like he killed Wellington, Mrs. Shears dog, because he loved her and she rejected him, and Ed got out of control. Ed lied and hid the letters from Christopher because Christopher, being a person with special needs, did not feel sad and take the divorce and separation of his parents too deeply and harshly. Ed also did this so Christopher would not leave him, because Ed loves him a lot. After Ed found out that Christopher read the letters, he apologized and said, I m sorry, Christopher, I m so, so sorry [Page 114]. Ed even said and told Christopher it was for his safety and for good, that it was all for a good cause. Ed said, I did it for your good, Christopher. Honestly I did. I never meant to lie. I just thought... I just thought it was better if you didn t know... that... that... I didn t mean to... I was going to show them to you when you were older [Page 114]. The company introduced its first BlackBerry device in 1999. For e mail obsessed Wall Streeters and other corporate users, it was a godsend. BlackBerry pioneered push e mail, meaning that users simply received their messages when they were sent, instead of having to constantly check for new e mails. BlackBerry s QWERTY keyboard was like an epiphany: no more pecking at a numeric keypad to eke out messages. In the years that followed, the BlackBerry keyboard spawned a whole generation of dual thumb e mail warriors. As the BlackBerry exploded in popularity, especially among business customers, the company became Canada s most valuable firm, leading some to dub Waterloo Canada s Silicon Valley. But while BlackBerry was resting on its laurels atop the corporate mobile market, Apple and Google were laser focused on the consumer market, which they correctly predicted would drive Smartphone adoption. In January 2012, BlackBerry announced that its co CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis would step down and be replaced by Thorsten Heins, a

Vittorio de Sica s The Bicycle Thief Essay Vittorio de Sica s The Bicycle Thief Since the beginning of its existence as a country, Italy has faced enormous challenges in establishing itself as a unified political and social entity. The geographic, economic, and linguistic differences between its various regions and the artificial manner in which they were amalgamated created a legacy of internal divisions that continues to dominate the country s political climate to this day. Italy s numerous historical fiascoes, such as its disastrous involvement in the two World Wars and the rise of fascism, further escalated the domestic problems that had haunted it since the Risorgimento. Originally applied to the government of Agostino Depretis in the 1880s, transformismo quickly became equated with any ethically questionable, self interested actions taken by public officials purely for the sake of staying in office and maintaining power. This often manifested itself in the creation of a smoke screen of reformatory rhetoric intended to satisfy the electorate, without a subsequent introduction of any real reforms. The colonialist manner in which Piedmont annexed the other regions to create a united Italy during the Risorgimento and the divisions inherent in the new kingdom resulted in a historical compromise that made any deliberate social change very difficult. Consequently, Italian leaders of the destra storica and sinistra storica (the first two eras of Italian political history) shifted their focus from meaningful governance to the practice of transformismo, permanently shaping the face of Italian political life. The prevailing motto of this practice was captured perfectly in a line from Luchino Visconti s 1963 film, The Leopard: Things must change in order to stay the same. Attendismo, the other type of quasi action, was a tendency of the leftist Italian parties to passively wait for change to occur from the outside, without taking any substantial revolutionary action on their own. • 46. Chivalry And Froissart s Image Of The Hundred Years War Chivalry as a concept is something that has baffled many medieval historians over the years. Chivalry was supposing a code that knights and nobles were to live their lives by however like many social structures of the past historians have debated over what exactly chivalry was. According to Sir Walter Scott chivalry was meant to be a code which knights could aspire to not necessarily carry out. His description does seem to be accurate. Chivalric principles could not be carried out in real life. Froissart s image of The Hundred Years War are romanticised in such a way that the historian must be careful not to take a lot of the text too seriously. Perhaps we should forgive Froissart for this, compared to modern standards his accuracy would fall short simply given the time he lived in. His accounts often came from supposed eyewitnesses that would of course have manipulated their accounts to suit themselves. Therefore when reading Froissart s Chronicles and concluding whether or not his accounts are accurate one must take caution and remember the purpose of his writings and who he is working for when completing them. Froissart s intentions are quite obvious from the beginning of the text. He claims ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many ways comparisants can be drawn from feudalism. What Is The Vietnam War Essay As I read though out the many different perspectives on the issue of war between the United States and Vietnam, my most reasonable conclusion is that I have to consider the Vietnam War as a failure for the United States. At the beginning of President Kennedy s administration, he sent Vice President Johnson to Vietnam on a mission to find evidence, because he wanted to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy kept sending many American military advisors to Vietnam, but the tyrannical leadership methods of South Vietnam President Diem made President Kennedy s efforts useless. As the number of beaten up military advisors increased, so did the disagreements about Kennedy s policies in Vietnam. In my opinion, Kennedy s reasons for sending military ... President Johnson made it clear to the American population and to the United States Ambassador to South Vietnam, that he is not going to lose to the spread of communist in Vietnam, nor is he going to send another American military troops and advisors to fight in Vietnam. In stead, he stated that the Vietnamese could fight for themselves. However, Johnson s view of not involving in the war changed drastically after the North Vietnamese torpedo boats attacked the United States destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin. As a revenge to this attack, President Johnson approved to counter attack North Vietnam. By 1965, North Vietnamese were fully supported by the Soviet Union and China making the American army to take out even more air support and ground forces into the South Vietnam. This cost American government tremendous amount of money and lives. • 48. Factors That Led To The Fall Of The Roman Republic Three ideals and traditions of the Roman Republic, lust for power, greed, and loyalty, each contributed to the collapse of the Republic. Desire for power played a major role in the collapse of the Republic because Caesar, the man who arguably began the Republic s downfall, marched on Rome because he wanted power. The second ideal that led to the Republic s collapse was greed and the power of money, for example bribing officials in Rome, Crassus shocking alliance with Caesar, and Pompey s strategy to fight Caesar during the first civil war. The last ideal that aided the downfall of the Republic was loyalty, specifically citizens loyalty to political leaders or military generals, loyalty between generals and their veterans, and loyalty between political leaders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the collapse of the Republic, Sulla, a roman patrician, declared himself dictator and used proscription lists, a list of people posted in the forum who were declared enemies of the state, to maintain his power. This example shows how lust for power was inherent and already destructive in the Republic, prior to its collapse. Similar to lust for power, greed could be found within the Republic before its collapse. For example, patricians, aristocrats, would buy farmland from plebeians who were serving in the army, and they used the land to increase their wealth. Lastly, loyalty was viewed as an important aspect of the Republic, specifically loyalty to politicians, family, and the Republic s beliefs. Most Roman households had some allegiance to a certain politician and would support that politician despite their own personal beliefs. These three ideals of the Republic were established and followed long before the collapse of the Republic, and all three grew into destructive forces that caused the collapse of the ... People are not favored over different creatures rather, similar to them, we are a piece of a causal web that contains the entire universe. Where different scholars talk about the opportunity of the human will, Nietzsche discloses to us that the will is neither free nor unfree, yet rather solid or frail. For Simon Blackburn he was the primary thinker to attempt to acclimatize Darwinism. Being the determinist he is, and taking the perspective on human instinct he does, Nietzsche can have no truck with this. We are not generally cognizant deliberators: rather, he lets us know, by a long shot the best some portion of our soul s action stays oblivious and unfelt. (The Gay Science, p333.) Knobe and Leiter make the surprising stride of seeing to what degree late exploratory discoveries in brain research bolster either Nietzsche or Kant. They have little trouble in demonstrating that Nietzsche is to a great extent vindicated. Generally we are not levelheaded practitioners: the view that we pick our activities from a point of view of deliberative separation is by all accounts a Kantian myth. There seems, by all accounts, to be no broad agreement between our mentalities and convictions, and our activities as a result, we say a certain something, yet do another. As opposed to representing reasons, we tend to act, and design reasons thereafter. In Nietzschean terms, the body demonstrations, and, f illed as it is with apparitions and will o the wisps, the mind then dishonestly appropriates that activity for its own particular justificatory purposes. The Jiff Lemon Case 1) Advise Markt whether Markt might be liable to NeemMiracle Ltd in Australia and New Zealand for launching their neem oil hair care products under the brand name Mira Neem. Is Markt at risk and liable to NeemMiracle with respect to Trade Mark infringement, passing off, misleading or deceptive conduct? No Trade Mark infringement for two reasons; a) The mark or get up being used by Markt only similar in colour and not necessarily name, the word neem may be argued to be descriptive. and b) NeemMiracle has not registered the trademark in either Australia or New Zealand. There may be a case for passing off under common law and/or misleading and deceptive conduct under S 18 ACL . An action in passing off deals only with misrepresentation, for an action in passing off to be successful we can refer to the classical trinity . In the Jiff Lemon Case Lord Oliver set out three tests for an action in passing off to be met. The classical trinity has been used as a touchstone for passing off. It can be argued that the getup of the Mira Neem product(s) is adopting a similar style or mark to NeemMiracle with respect to choice of colour, font and naming of the product; further argued that the confusing labelling of the product without any disclaimer may misrepresent the Mira Neem product as part of the products currently produced and marketed by NeemMiracle.
