Combating Resistance to Organizational Change Essay
Combating Resistance to Organizational Change
By any objective measure, the amount of important, frequently distressing, change in
organizations has grown enormously over the last two decades (Kotter, 1996). Jeffrey M. Hiatt,
CEO of Prosci Inc., (as cited by Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly Konopaske, 2009, p. 481)
explained, thirty years ago, a foturne 100 probably had one or two enterprisewide change
intitiatives goiong on; today that number is proably between 20 and 25. The speed of global,
economic, and techological development makes change an ineveitable element of organiztional life.
Change is a pervasive, perisitent, and permenant condition for all organizations (Gibson, et al.,
2009). Organizational change means different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If organizations are to thrive and be sustaining, they need to respond to the dynamics of their
environment with change. However, change is not a singular event with an isolated focus (Spector,
2007). Effective strategic renewal is a combination of the three faces of change turnaround, which
targets costs; technology, which targets internal process; and behavioral, which targets employee
actions and interactions (Spector, 2007). In a discussion on change management, particularly
management by control versus management by shaping, Palmer, et al. (2009) draw a similar
conclusion that organizations and human systems are complex and evolving and therefore cannot
be reduced to a single, linear objective of maximizing shareholder value (p. 50).
Forces for Change
Despite some variations in change approach labels among academic research, it seems generally
accepted that forces for change are the catalyst for change itself. Gibson, et al. (2009) classified
forces for change into two groups; environmental and internal, and further described environmental
forces as those generally beyond management s control and internal forces generally within
management s control. These forces for change trigger an intervention or change process that can
take any of three approaches: structural, behavioral, or technological (Gibson, et al. 2009).
Similarly, Spector (2007) discussed change approaches as those of organizational turnarounds,
behavioral and

Impact Of Stalinism
Assess the impact of Stalinism on the Soviet State until 1941
1st paragraph Stalin, the cult of personality
Stalin s cult of personality, derived through propaganda, censorship and education, was an essential
element of Stalinism which had a significant impact on the society and culture of the Soviet State
between until 1941. Stalin s 50th birthday on 21 December 1929 initiated the moment in Stalin s
dictatorship in which the leader became an object of worship. Millions of party member came to
compare Stalin to Lenin, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Eventually the cult of Stalin saw him as
a political, military, scientific and philosophical genius. While the people feared Stalin, they were

Stalin s Five Year Plans included the embarkment of huge industrial projects and a campaign to
collectivise agriculture. Almost all party members agreed that the Soviet State would require
massive industrial growth to achieve a secure society. Collectivisation was to be undertaken to
ensure food supplies to the cities and help mechanisation, increase output and reduce costs . The
first of Stalin s Five Year Plans reflected Lenin s ideas of giving priority to industries such as
hydro electric power, coal, iron, steel ships, railways, and machinery. However, this first plan
failed due to falls in food and consumer goods output and the many unrealistic plan targets. The
second of the Five Year Plans was scheduled to begin in October 1928 and focused on the
production of consumer goods for the workers and peasants to increase their production, as well
as development of heavy industry base for the military. The third of the Five Year Plans was
intended to increase the supply of scarce consumer goods. However, the Third Plan never met its
goals as it was interrupted by the German attack on Russia in June

Family And Family Life
50 years ago, a prominent stereotype in America portrayed the men as hardworking breadwinners
while on the opposite side of the spectrum the woman stayed home taking care of the house,
children, cooking and cleaning. In the current generation, a lot has changed, roles have slightly
switched and men and women both have the opportunity to work in the field they desire. These
changes have brought new values and brought forth many obstacles with balancing the family/work
life. Although the stereotype about the father being the one working and the motherstaying home
changed significantly over the years, when both parents are working and trying to keep their
family together there are many obstacles that come along. In today s society, many face the
complication of not being able to spend enough time with their children due to work, not being as
flexible in balancing the work life versus family life and having to face the situation of trying to
pick between choosing their child over a dream job.
To begin with, today it is very common that both parents go to work in order to support their
family, but sometimes either mom, dad, or both can be working too much and not realize that they
can be missing out on being a part of their child s life later regretting their pass decisions as their
children grow older. It is very common that some parents put more time into working rather than
spending time with their child and do not realize that it affects their family and their child due to

Homosexuality In Canadian Society
Homosexuality
Families were worried that if their child was exposed to homosexuality, or were themselves gay,
that their morals would be tarnished and they would embark towards promiscuous behaviour.
Books were given to teens providing advice on how to reach normality . They were trying to scare
kids into believing that heterosexuality was the only option and anything otherwise was not normal.
They also wanted to guilt the children into believing that being gay would not only ostracize
yourself, but would also shame your family. Families would tell their children that they needed to
be heterosexual to defend Canada. They would also use examples from Canadian society as per
what would happen if they did end up gay. Examples like how the ... Show more content on

Men, women and children had to fit inside this nuclear family ideology. Communism was a major
factor in this family structure because it influenced the civil defence movement that gave
housewives new roles in society, while allowing the men to go out and work to be the
breadwinner. Children had to be censored from the world of communism so not to risk their
beliefs from being influenced. Then there was the pressure from the government telling the
families that it was being patriotic to follow the new social structure and if people did otherwise
they were seen as communist supporters. Lastly, there was the pressure that society put on each
other. The nuclear family was the accepted lifestyle and if you did not follow it, most people
would look down on you. Homosexuality is one of the best examples of this ostracization within
Canada during the Cold War. The roles were so clear cut and heterosexuality was deemed the only
lifestyle for Canadian citizens. With all that said, it is clear to see that during the Cold War threat of
nuclear warfare, communism, the governments and societal influence created new roles and
identities for everyone in

Why Is Beowulf Epic Or Awesome
Beowulf is an epic poem, but you already know that. But by modern terms, I would definitely
classify this poem as epic or awesome . I don t quite understand why, but I really enjoyed this
poem. It was very easy to read. I was able to comprehend all of the text without any trouble. From
the beginning of the story, you know that the heroic character is going to have some divine
motivations. Beowulfwill become the idol of Geats, he will gain much glory and respect and a
little bit of fame. Clearly, these were his motivations for all of his courageous acts and he certainly
fulfilled his expectations.
When Beowulf agrees to battle Grendel, he is purely accepting the challenge because he feels it
is his moral obligation. He knows it is his duty to defend and protect the citizens of Geats.
Obviously, no one honestly wants to fight a massive lizard man, who can crush thirty men at
once, but hey, let s let Beowulf give it a shot. Surprisingly, Beowulf tells the King that he wants to
fight the monster with his bare hands; grappling, would be a better way to describe his intentions.
I am still not completely sure why Beowulf chose to deny any and all kinds of weapons, but his
insane game plan ends up working, so I guess that s all that truly matters ... Show more content on

Oddly enough, Beowulf chose to wear armor and use weapons for this battle. Why would he do
that? He had already gained some glory for slaying the monster Grendel. Fortunately, Beowulf
knows that women fight a lot differently than men. Women know how to use our minds in
battle. We can deceive you in front of your very eyes, and you still wouldn t know what is going
on. Girls fight dirty, and Beowulf is prepared. At this point in his life, Beowulf is ready to achieve
some fame. Because who doesn t want to profit from some infamy? He is already seen as the great
hero of Geats, so why not progress to the village s

Everyday at least one kid of the age of 18 or younger commits a crime that is way over the top
for their age range. They are committing crimes that an adult would make, but how are we
supposed to punish them? Are we just supposed to smack them on the hand and think they ll
stop the nonsense or do we punish them as adults and hope for the good? Ever since the 1990 s
crime in kids has rose tremendously and nobody knows how to stop the bar from rising. People
have tried separating those kids from other kids their age but that still doesn t seem to work.
Instead they came up with a way to punish them by charging them as adults, they say If they can

It is essential that kids get charged as adults because they are committing crimes an adult would
make, they don t stop their actions when they know they should, they know the crimes that they
are doing. So now, when a kid is killing a kid that hasn t even be able to live their whole life yet
how should you punish the kid? Putting the kid in juvenile will send them a message saying it is
okay for them to kill another kid and they will be forgiven, but when they are sent to prison with
adults they will then learn their lesson and why they should never commit a crime. All over the
world at least one kid will kill another kid everyday and you may ask what is their punishment.
Well their punishment is simply don t do that and a smack on the hand. The government needs to
track down these naughty kids and stop them before they commit a crime and the only way they
will be able to do that is by giving them a bigger punishment and changing them as adults so they

Alexis de Tocqueville and James Madison
Alexis de Tocqueville and James Madison had two distinctly different philosophical views when it
came to the problem of majority tyranny. In Tocqueville and the Tyranny of the Majority, Morton
J. Horwitz discusses in length the writings of the Frenchman when he came to and became
fascinated by America. Horowitz argues each man believes the public s best interests and freedoms
were being terrorized. The former (de Tocqueville) believed that society itself is a monster, but the
latter (Madison) believed danger came from a temporarily impassioned majority making lasting
decisions in government.
The problem that has prevented us from solving tyranny in government is the lingering ignorance
combined with the open interpretation of each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a page is taken from Tocqueville s book, and America examines another country as an example,
England is a good model for dealing with this situation. In England, their Parliament is made up of
several parties (many interests), that form alliances for majority power. While it is a majority, it is
very diverse and thus, prevents it from being absorbed with one sole mission.
Ultimately however, tyranny or oppression of any form can be eventually overcome with
education. If the general public becomes informed and engaged again, the apathy that has been
plaguing the populace can be beaten in more ways than one. A rise in voting from the poor and
less educated will allow for more of their interests to be represented, since they are the group that
votes the least. If that occurs the GOP will not only have to modify their platform to be less off
putting to minorities, but also a platform more helpful and beneficial for those less financially
advantaged and in the 47% . It is a circle. If the public feels more informed, they are more likely to
vote, and if they vote, that will bring them power to help modify the current interests to those for
the general good.
With the concept of majority tyranny in mind, the founder s, including Madison, divided the power
of the government into three different branches. The need

Real Estate Reality TV
Despite its name, Reality TV can be pretty far from reality. When it comes to real estate, reality
programs often distorts many aspects of the home buying process, which can negatively influence
buyers expectations as they look for homes for sale in Wayne, PA. Sage Reality, a dedicated buyers
agency in the Main Line area, explains the real reality of real estatetransactions.
Unrealistic Timing
Reality TV has to fit months of actions and inaction into short, viewable segments. To do this,
they make it appear as through the whole process only takes a few days at most. In reality, the
process of buying a home, from pre approval to closing, can actually take months, if not up to a year.

Minnie Goetze who presents her narrative in diary form and illustrates her interactions,
observations and feelings about the world around her, which is a libertine society in 1976, in San
Francisco. Minnie s person is sometimes used a lens as through which we view the events in the
story and other times, it is her experiencing the events. Her narrative offers a lot of varying factors
that are all a part of her teenage life as she matures and comes to understand the others around her,

Her friends are often seen committing felonies, like her friend Chuck who has a fake ID to drive
and says he steals cars as well, although Minnie believes this is a lie to make himself appear
better (p. 29). There is also an instance when Minnie and Kimmie are drunk and decide to pose as
prostitutes and let men buy them drinks in exchange for sex, although they feel regretful the
next day and promised each other to never do anything like it again. (p. 235) A major theme
within the book is Minnie exploring her sexuality and so at one point, she meets and develops
feelings for a girl named Tabatha, who she eventually begins a short lived and turbulent romance
with despite her other friends discouraging her from pursuing Tabatha. In regards to stereotypes,
Minnie later comes to think her friend Chuck is gay or bisexual because of his affinity for
having friends within the LGBT community, though he claims this is untrue and she believes
him when she remembers he still has long hair, and most guys I know chop it all off as soon as
they come out. (p. 239) Minnie herself, does confess to her diary later that she loves the
atmosphere of Polk street which is an entertainment district she hangs out at a lot, stating I love
drugs I love disco music I love fags and dykes and coffee and cigarettes. (p. 268) She also
engages heavily in substance abuse, in the beginning of the book with alcohol and later, with
drugs and develops a short lived addiction to speed. Minnie s mother also displays a lot of
alcoholism in her character, often being seen with a second of third refreshed drink, and letting
her daughter drink as well. Monroe displays the same qualities as he often prefers staying in with

Analysis Of The Film Black Robe
In the 1991 film Black Robe, which is set during the 1630s Beaver War in North America, the
French make attempts to search for and continue to convert a Huron Indian tribe to Christianity. To
complete this mission, the founder of the French settlement in Quebec, Samuel Champlain, sends a
Jesuit priest, Father LaForgue, off to find the Indian tribe, and a man named Daniel and a family of
Indians, who are a part of the Algonquintribe, accompany Father LaForgue on this journey. Some
historical events that are mentioned in American Colonies by Alan Taylor that are dramatized by
the film include the relationship between the Jesuits and the Indians and the love story. While, to
an extent, the relationship between the two parties had many moments of accuracy, the film also
made it seem like no matter what the Jesuit priest always was only looking out for the Indian
people in order to convert them. The film ignores the side of the relationship where the French
Jesuits primarily colonize the Indians, which ultimately leads to the death of thousands of Indians.
Also, the love story between Daniel and Annuka who is the daughter of Chomina, who is
accompanying the French on their mission, was dramatized. Recognizing that this love story s
purpose is to entertain the viewer, the way the cultures collide is not as accurate as it could be.
Overall, however, the film does deal with these dramatizations in a responsible and fairly accurate
way. In the film, the French perceive the

Over the last couple of years, the gel manicure has grown in popularity: Two thirds of salons now

accompanying nail damage.
Still, mixed in with all the hype are complaints that gel nails do still chip, the polish can only be

Raise The Driving Age To 18
Driving mishaps can happen to anyone, but they happen all too frequently to teenage drivers
because of their lacking significant experience behind the wheel...in recent years, safety experts,
elected officials, and public policy experts have focused on strengthening such state laws with the
goal of making the roads safer for teens. (Andrews, 2) New laws should be made to keep teens and
the road a safer place. The drivingage should be raised to 18 to reduce many dangers.
The first reason is so we can lower teen deaths. Just a few years ago 2,270 teens died from car
accidents, and 221,313 were sent into the emergency room. Not only that but teens were accounted
for 11% of the total cost for car accident injuries. This information supports the text because it
shows how motor vehicles deadly impact teen lives and how we should raise the age limit to keep

This will help make teens less distracted on the road. Phones and technology is a big distraction and
danger, once they are 18 drivers will be more responsible to stop. The human brain is fully matured
at 20 years old, so starting to drive at 18 years old, they will be more mature and responsible which
makes them safer. Also, studies have shown that it is impossible to truly multitask . This is
important because that means teens are taking most of their attention of the road and putting their
attention on the electronics. This is significant because now that teens have switched their attention
to other distraction, this dangers other drivers around them. Stopping the unhealthy multitasking
can make the road a more trustworthy place.
To conclude, raising the driving age will reduce many dangers in teen s life. This will lower teen
deaths, decrease obesity, and end certain road distractions. We need to let our legislators know that
you support the driving age being raised to 18. This law can safe generations to

The attack on Monte Cassino was a bloody affair and one that was dubbed the Stalingrad of the
Italian front. The battle saw a plethora of high explosives exchanged between the Allied and Axis

The Reflection Of Being A Group Of My Friends
On Friday October 20, I decided that it would be the perfect opportunity to observe a group of
my friends. I chose this group because I have known them for a number of years now, and I have
never allowed myself the opportunity to truly observe them, and I felt this would be a perfectly
fascinating opportunity to examine them from a pure sociological perspective. I have enjoyed their
company, and who they all are, but I thought it would be interesting to see how our group functions
and tends to interact with one another. Each and every one of these particular members of my
friend group are rather intriguing. They are all very intelligent people with a decent sense of
humor, and complex personalities all around. I expected to discover some interesting things about
my friends, as I have observed them before, but never like this. I was hopeful, that I might
discover some further insight that might explain how our groups tends to function. I felt
encouraged to analyze certain aspects of their individual personalities, and to see how they
interact with one another to form our group dynamic, utilizing the dramaturgical perspective. In
addition, I specifically concentrated my efforts on looking at four elements of theater which
are: costumes, actors, audience, and script. In order to best lay a foundation for the scene that I
observed, I will describe what it was specifically that I observed on this particular occasion. I
arrived at my friend Aisha s house on Friday evening, as we planned on having a little get
together with two of our mutual friends Kayla, and Brittany. All three of them were already
there by the time I got there, as I had work that evening. When I stepped inside, they were all
standing around Aisha s counter giggling, and talking about a new guy that Brittany had met
earlier in the day. All three of them were dressed pretty casually, as Brittany and Kayla both had
on sweaters and jeans. Aisha was dressed a little more formally, as she was wearing her work
clothes still, which included a skirt, white blouse, and heels. Aisha stood tall above the rest of us,
and is the oldest being 23 years old. Brittany and Kayla are both 21. In terms of their racial
backgrounds, Aisha is from Puerto Rico, Brittany

Female Athlete Triad Essay
The female athlete triad is a health condition in which active women experience three inter related
disorders due to unhealthy body weight and eating habits. In the case of the triad, the word active
refers to females who display moderate to high intensity levels of performance. The rate of
performance must be high in order to counterbalance the decrease in calorie intake. Females who
perform at a high intensity are at risk for the triad since they do not take in enough calories to fulfill
the amount expended. The three disorders within the female athlete triadare osteoporosis, disordered
eating, and menstrual dysfunction. Not all females experience all three of the conditions, however
new data has indicated that even having one or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Low bone mineral density can result in stress fractures within a female s body (6). Female athletes
with menstrual dysfunction often display low levels of the reproductive hormones estrogen and
progesterone. When the levels of these hormones are low, it is difficult for bones to retain calcium
which causes a gradual loss of bone mass. It has been proven that when comparing amenorrhic
athletes to athletes with regular menstrual cycles, the bone mineral density if reduced by 14% in
amenorrhic athletes and 27% in regular athletic women (7). All three conditions result in serious
health and body conditions which can decrease a female s ability to participate in physical
activities. The female athlete triad is considered to be a significant health concern. In relation to the
female athlete triad, some women are more prone to the condition than others. Sports that
emphasize performance based on weight specifications increase the prevalence of the female athlete
triad. Women who participate in sports such as ballet, figure skating, gymnastics, diving, and other
aesthetic component sports have a higher risk of developing aspects of the female athlete triad in
addition to women who participate in sports that involve weight classes such as tae kwon do, judo,
wrestling, rowing, and equestrian (6). Most female athletes who participate in either high intensity
or endurance exercise have a greater chance of developing the triad. Studies have shown that

This results in the cash portion of the purchase price available for payment to Seagate s
stockholders in connection with the merger to be approximately $1.285 billion (less the amount of

While many of the implied equity values for Seagate s operating businesses summarized in the
table above exceeded the $2 billion purchase price in the leveraged buyout, Morgan Stanley arrived
at its opinion that the consideration to be received by holders of Seagate common stock in
connection with the merger was fair, from a financial point of view, to those holders, by
considering all of its analyses of the merger and the leveraged buyout, taken as a whole.
The passages show that Morgan Stanley fear value was $2 billion for the business operation. This

Throughout ancient times, many names have identified as racial slurs. Most recently, controversy
has surrounded multiple sports teams such as the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and the

them, instead of discriminate against them. The conflict of the Washington Redskinsseems highest

inured to the stoic life (Proulx 1). Ennis had a high arched nose and narrow face, was scruffy, had a
caved chest, a small torso and caliper legs, possessed a muscular body and supple body made for
the horse and fighting (Proulx 3). He was a high school dropoutand grew up having much of
nothing after his parents died when he was just a young boy (Proulx 2). The death of his parents
forced him to grow up at a young age. At the age of 19, he had a difficult time finding work and it
wasn t until he came to Brokeback Mountainthat he found a summer job. This was also where he
met Jack who had come from a similar background. Jack had curly hair and a quick laugh, but
carried weight in the haunch and his smile showed his buckteeth. He loved the rodeo life. His
boots were worn to the quick and holed beyond repair (Proulx 3). Jack too was a high school
dropout and was looking for summer work and came back to Brokeback Mountainfor the second
year. Not only did they come from the same background, but they also began to share the same
love for each other. It wasn t until Ennis and Jack were on the mountain alone and together that
they discovered this love for each other. Although only a small detail and most times overlooked,
there is a passage that says, During the day Ennis looked across a great gulf and sometimes saw

Analysis Of The Book King Leopold s Ghost
King Leopold s Ghost is a nonfiction book about Imperialism in Africa written by Adam
Hochschild. Hochschild was born in New York in 1942 and graduated from Harvard in 1963
with a B.A. degree in history and literature (Interview with Adam Hochschild). He worked as a
reporter for a daily newspaper for two years and then he went on to writing and editing
magazines. In 1986 he wrote his first book, and then twelve years later he wrote his second:
King Leopold s Ghost. Hochschild said he writes about subjects he s interested in. In the
introduction to King Leopold s Ghost he states that he knew nothing about the history of the
Congo until he noticed a footnote in a book (Hochschild 3). Hochschild said that when you come
across something striking, you remember where you were when you read it. In this particular
experience he was in an airliner crossing the United States. He read a quotation by Mark Twain
about the caliber of what happened in the Congo and was startled (3), this sparked his interest in
the Congo and inspired him to start researching to see if the mass murders he read about were
true. The book, King Leopold s Ghost covers information from the 1840s (Hochschild 21) to
now about the Congo past and present, but King Leopold s reign of terror was from 1885 1906
(History of the Belgian Congo). The phrase reign of terror is not an exaggeration, for King
Leopold s ownership of the Congo was very horrific. It all started when Henry Morton Stanleywent

In conclusion, Anthropometrics is the study of the sizes of people in relation to products and
spaces manufactured. Human Factors or Ergonomics is the relationship between people and the
products in which they use. Moreover, Anthropometric data is used to help designers and design
products meet ergonomic needs.
Although Anthropometrics and Ergonomics are primarily scientific fields, designers should be
aware of these human factors to ensure their product and spaces are safe and socially responsible.
These studies allow designers to accommodate the vast majority of the population so as many
people as possible can use and interact with the product or space. Good designers observe these
qualities first because no one wants to use or own a product that carries out a task poorly or

Determination And Self Determination

Motivation plays a big role in a person s life. It allows you to set goals and build confidence.
However, a person is not born motivated, it is something you must find within yourself to
achieve the things you want to achieve. My subject is a twenty one year old female college
soccer player. She has played soccer since she was five years old. She grew up with many
challenges on and off the field and has still found a way to keep herself moving forward. I

competence to push herself to accomplish the tasks is high.
Being an athlete, nutrition plays a major role in this person s program. When it comes to her body
weight, she regularly motivates herself to lose weight so she can be quicker and stronger to play
her position. This is where her autonomous motives help her see the value in her actions.
The interviewee s overall outcome is for her to reward herself by improving so she can earn more
playing time. Although her ultimate reward is starting in a game, she is happy just knowing she
always puts in great effort and gives it her all.
One obstacle the subject sometime faces is her confidence. When she is not motivated at a training
session, it frustrates her and she begins to temporarily lack motivation. This causes her to have
thoughts of making excuses to stop training. However, when the thought of making excuses
appears, she ignores them, finds the strength to push forward, and completes her tasks. Finishing
tasks in difficult circumstances reveals a strong intrinsic motivation on her part.
When it comes to feedback after a task, the interviewee is motivated in a different manner. She
completely disregards positive feedback, choosing to focus on critical comments for her mistakes.
The negative feedback pushes

258). It does not matter who or what that Greatest Conceivable Being is identified as; anyone and
everyone can have an idea of that being. The third premise works off of the idea that it is greater
for something to exist in reality than simply as an idea in our minds (Cowan Spiegel, 2009, p.
258). The idea is that existence is a quality that can make something greater than something equal
in all aspects except for existence. A red balloon in my mind would not be as great as a red
balloon that actually exists. So, in order for the Greatest Conceivable Being to actually be the
greatest, it needs to exist in reality. The fourth premise says that if God, or the Greatest Conceivable
Being, was only an idea in the mind, then he would not be as great as he could be because he did
not exist in reality. So, if God does not exist in reality, then we would be able to imagine or
conceive a being greater than him. The fifth premise ties back in to the first: God, by definition, is
the Greatest Conceivable Being. If he did not exist, then he would not be the Greatest Conceivable
Being. There would be a being that is greater. However, it would be self contradictory to say that
there would be a being greater than the Greatest Conceivable Being (Himma, n.d., para. 1). If
something is the greatest, there cannot be something greater. The sixth premise brings the argument
to a conclusion: if the Greatest Conceivable Being is the greatest, that

Tickner And Sjoberg
Tickner and Sjoberg s presentation of feminist thought within International Relations scholarship

contemporary political science. The two argue that the disciplinary primacy of rationalist, black box
approaches waned as international relations scholars began employing sociologyand interpretive
methods to their work (DKS, 180 181). From this diversion, feminist theories of international

First, feminist political movements began emerging in the early twentieth century at Seneca Falls
and Hull House. Why were these empowerment movements largely ineffectual within academic

nature of academia, alongside the prevalence of rationalist thought after the birth of the discipline.
Furthermore, the comparatively late formation of International Relations as a field of study may
have slowed its progress toward inclusivity and experience sharing. Secondly, if classical realists are

it possible that gender relations were not one of Thucydides main concerns? The most basic

Informative Essay On Gymnastics
Gymnastics If I asked you to guess what the real meaning of gymnastics is, you d be surprised to
find out that you are probably wrong, and what the true definition is. According to
softschools.com, gymnastics true meaning comes from the Greek word, gymnos, which means
naked. Nimblesports.com also states that the reason for this name is that in ancient Greece men
were prepared for war by doing gymnastics, and in doing so, they were naked. These soldiers in
training also jumped over bulls instead of vaults! After hearing these crazy facts, you may be
wondering about the true beginning of gymnastics, so let s start there. Gymnastics is one of the
oldest sports in the world, being made more than 2,000 years ago by a German man named
Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (www.fig gymnastics.com). Although gymnastics has existed for over 2,000
years, it was only introduced to America in the 1830 s, and was officially named a sport in 1862,
which is only 156 years ago (www.softschools.com, umich.edu)!... Show more content on

Men have 6 events, which are the floor, pommel horse, still rings, vault, parallel bars, and the

(www.softschools.com, bleacherreport.com)! Women s four events are the floor, vault, bars, and
beam. In today s world, gymnasts now have to be 16 to compete in the Olympics, and there are
five judges for Olympic gymnastics (facts.net, Britannica). According to www.nimblesports.com

The Portrayal Of Nurses In The Media
The purpose of this paper is to explain how nurses are portrayed in the media and how it affects
both how the population views nurses and people considering entering the nursing field. Nurses
in the media are often portrayed as subservient to the doctors, having affairs with doctors, or as
sex symbols (often seen in music videos or as Halloween costumes). Nurses are not really shown
to have that much power or autonomy in working with patients. We are also not shown
performing some of the tasks we perform on a day to day basis such as IV starts, monitoring
patients for reactions from blood transfusions or chemotherapy or even trying to be the referee
between the patient and family members in the case of disagreement over the plan of care.

When I tell people that I am a nurse I get mixed responses and reactions. Some people ask if I just
empty bedpans or change adult depends all night. I also get the question of why didn t I just
become a doctor because all the nurses do is follow the doctor s orders. In that instance it then
becomes my job to inform people of exactly what my job entails. According to Meuhlbauer
(2012), The overarching theme was that nurses need to be proactive in influencing the public s
image of the profession (p.21). The negative portrayal of nurses also contributes to the current
nursing shortage because no one wants to work a job they feel is not respected. A lot of patients
only feel comfortable if they hear information come directly from the doctor, not from the nurse.
The theme is Why be a nurse, when you can be the doctor? Blais (2016) noted that as nursing
education evolved and nurses began to understand more about what constituted the practice of
nursing, the boundaries expanded. During the 1970s and 1980s nurses began to seek more
autonomy in the practice of nursing, particularly with regards to physicians and hospital
administration (p.315). Many Americans spend most of their free time watching television.
Therefore, the best way to change the negative portrayals of nurses would be to use these same
sources of media

The Rights Of Women And Education
A sufficient education is something that Westerner s like myself, have taken for granted for a
long time. It s easy to, in all honesty, because we have been raised in a society in which education
has been held at the utmost importance. In the United States women are held at an equal level with
men, we ve fought for this sense of equality for several years and unfortunately, not all women
across the world have had that same success. Women from other countries do not have half of the
rights that we do here in the United States, and this is something that we seem to never really think
about. Saudi Arabiais just one of the many countries around the world in which the women do not
have as many rights as men do. Being a feminist at heart with a hunger for education, it piqued
my interest to research the rights of women and education in Saudi Arabia. If I m being honest, I
had expected it to be much worse than it is, yet it could be so much better at the same time. Saudi
women should have every right to educate themselves in any aspect they want, and though they
have fought their way to gaining some leverage, there are still necessary steps that need to be
taken. Saudi Arabia is a country in Southeast Asia with a population of approximately twenty
seven million people. Of that twenty seven million people, it is estimated that 30% of them are
migrant workers. ( Saudi Arabia Demographics Profile 2014. ) The sex ratio of this country is
about 1.21 men for every 1 woman, with the

The Importance Of Doing Business In India
After Looking at the current ease of doing business rankings that are available for public view at
http://www.doingbusiness.org, there is a lot of insight that can be attained regarding India s
attractiveness towards new entrepreneurs that are looking to break into new international markets.
Just from looking at the data within the site, we see that India is ranked as the 100th country within
the 190 countries listed within the index. It is interesting to see that although ranked 100th overall,
they actually have a lot of interesting aspects to their economy that ranks them differently within
specific important aspects that are needed in order to conduct business. One area that India seems to

Russia seems to be the most attractive to foreign investors coming in at 35 followed by China,
India and finally Brazil. The main trend seems to be that countries that perform well within the
index and are attractive to foreign clients tend to also perform well in the following areas.
Enforcing of contracts, ease of obtaining electricity, overall ease in process when starting a
business and availability of credit seem to be crucial factors that indicate how easy it will
actually be for an individual to conduct business. In India s particular case there has been a lot of
improvement that has catapulted them from a ranking of 130 to 100 in the recent years there is
still a lot of unattended issues that frustrate individuals. A culture of bribes also seems to be a
common thing in the business world within this country and it appears that nothing moves along
unless the right amount is paid to the right individual who is pushing your agenda. If one was to
look at the current rakings for countries within the BRIC group in comparison with the numbers
that the United States has listed, we can begin to understand where each needs to focus as far as
improving their ease of doing business. While there are areas where the United States does perform
worse in comparison with BRIC countries the is a clear noticeable difference when analyzing the
data in comparison to the United States. The combination of an efficient enforcement

How Social Class Influences Empathic Accuracy
Article Critique
Shirly Dorilas
Carlos Albizu University Introduction
Social Class, Contextualism, and Empathic Accuracy by
Michael W. Kraus, Stephanie Cote, and Dacher Keltner
The main aim of the paper was to examine how social class influences empathic accuracy. This
aim is important as it will help to uncover the psychological processes that inspire the various life
circumstances of lower and upper class individuals. In addition, social class such as socioeconomic
status or SES pervades social life, in which it can determine the participation within social
institutions, influence preference for cultural and artistic symbols, and increase susceptibility to
mood and health related issues. It would be important to understand how ... Show more content on

Studies have found that social class is measured by the indicators of material wealth, occupational
prestige or educational achievement. Due to this signaling process, an individual may develop
subjective perceptions of his or her rank in the social hierarchy. Additionally, research suggests
lower class individuals life outcome is often times more dependent on external forces in the social
context than upper class individuals. Furthermore, research noted empathic accuracy tends to
increase with more interdependence and may be an important predictor of relationship results and
social adjustment. The author asserts that research studies supporting these theoretic arguments are
suggestive but limited as they have not addressed how class based perceptual tendencies may have
pronounced effects on emotional processes. The current study was conducted in three different
experiments. First, participants were tested on whether or not lower social class is related to an
elevated empathic accuracy. In the second experiment, researchers tested whether or not social class
predicts accuracy in judging emotions during interaction. In addition, researchers examined whether
or not a more pronounced focus on the context explains the relationship between social class and
empathic accuracy. Subsequently, researchers used SES of participants to measure social class. In
the third experiment, researchers manipulated

Belief In The Trinity
Belief in the Trinity A part of the Christian faith that has long been debated over, yet is a part of
our solid foundation, is the belief in the Triune God. Christians believe that there is only one God,
but God is also three individual and distinct beings. The Godhead is made up of God the Father, God
the Son, and God the Holy Spirt. It is important to note that although God is three different beings
they are all consider one God because of the oneness of their nature. Although, the Biblenever
explicitly speaks about the Trinity, each of the members of the Godhead can be seen working
together. The song This I Believe (The Creed) , by Hillsong Worship, takes many of its verses
from the Apostle s Creed. It speaks about the foundation of

Finding a Balance between Lowering Stress Levels of Staff...
There are numerous elements that contribute to stress in the healthcare setting. Nurses days are
full of physical, mental and emotional demands. There are societal demands and workplace
demands created by the shortage. These stressors can become increasingly overwhelming and if
there is no stress relief, job performance can and will be hindered. When fatigue and stress
combine there is potential for performance decrements . This can include diminished capacity to
manage a specific level of workload resulting in errors in the delivery of nursing care. This can
produce damaging effects on the safety and advantageous outcomes for both the nurses and
patients. (Reese, 2011). Therefore, finding a balance between lowering stress levels of... Show more

The risks of making an error were significantly increased when work shifts were longer than
twelve hours, when nurses worked overtime, or when they worked more than forty hours per
week. (Trossman, 2009). Working longer hours in a high stress area will always increase the
error rate. Designating an adequate number of RN positions to ensure nurses work an appropriate
schedule without overtime and that their workload allows for breaks. Managerial staff must work
to develop specific policies about the length of work times based on the setting, patient and
provider needs. Those policies should limit nurses from working more than 12.5 consecutive
hours. Provide education for all care providers on the hazards and causes of fatigue. Continue to
document unsafe staffing conditions and work with others to change the current work culture so
that it recognizes the effects of fatigue on patient safety, as well as the nurse. (Berger, et al. 2006)
Hourly rounding contributes in several key areas to achievement of high levels of patient
satisfaction, including quality of care and patient safety. This puts patients at the center of care by
building on the fundamental aspects of care, which are so important. Thus by checking in on
patients in wards regularly to see whether they are comfortable and have everything they need can
produce a number of positive results. Nurses

Moral Philosophy Study Guide
What is moral philosophy and what would a satisfactory moral theory be like ? In, The Elements
of Moral Philosophy, James Rachels states, Moral Philosophy is the study of what morality is and
what it requires of us (p.1). Still today, the subject of ethics, morality, and the beliefs of what is
right and wrong still perplex us, just as it baffled great thinkers since ancient times. Such as
Aristotle and Socrates, whom were just some of the greatest philosophers in history. Regarding
morality, Socrates said, it s about how we ought to live and why (p. 1). There is no such definition
of what morality is, in response, noteworthy philosophers and scholars have come up with different
moral theories. Some of which are: The Divine Command... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These individuals will have the wisdom to follow through and do the right things when
presented with a dilemma. Therefore, everyone would be benefited from such actions and have
achieved happiness. In Rachel s writing Aristotle say, that the virtues are important because the
virtuous person will fare better in life (p. 167). For example, if someone is needing help, a
utilitarian would give the help, because by doing so it would maximize well being (SEP). On
the other hand, a deontologist would say that by helping that person in need, they would be
following a moral rule of duty Do unto others as you would be done by (SEP). In facing this
moral dilemma, a virtuous person would put into practice the habit or virtue of benevolence. This
virtue would be applied neither in excess nor in deficiency. They would be neither over kindly or
indifferent to the needs of the person who is in need of assistance. Therefore, in essence,

Negative Effects Of Consumerism
Consumerism is becoming the characteristics of most world economies. In today s society,
consumerism is often having a negative aspect of people s lives. But, if looked in a positive light,
consumerism have certain positive characteristics. Consumerism has been as part of a history
process. People often want more than they have now, more money, a better car, a more comfortable
house, more luxuries brand clothing or shoes. People never be satisfied with them, because there is
new advertisement for new cars, clothes and electronics every day. In term of is discussion
consumerism, James B. Twitchell, author of The Allure of Luxury , explores the joys of luxury and
challenges the academic criticism that condemns our material instincts as shallow and self centered.
Another author Daniel Gross of Will Your Recession Be Tall, Grande, or Venti? , illustrates the
correlation which economists should be counting the number of baristas when they judge the
direction the economy will take between having too many Starbucks and having a financial crisis.
So, consumerism has a major effect on our lives, whatever negative effects or positive effects.
Consumerism increase economy growth. More consumption requires more production, more
production means more jobs and more incomein society, and more incomes means more
consumption. This is a cycle which if managed properly can bring growth to economy. Twitchell
said that This spending is being done by younger and younger consumers. Take a walk up Fifth
Avenue, and then, at 58th, cross over and continue up Madison. You will see who is swarming
through the stores with names we all recognize.....and you will see the same furious down
marketing and up crusting. (119) More production of manufactured goodsand services has increased
the consumerism world. Take cell phones for instant, it has become a need today. Elementary
school students are given the cell phone for safe reasons, giving the growth to the production of cell
phones. Furthermore, increases the employment opportunities directly or indirectly associated with
the communication industry. Consumerism not only affects the local markets, it has its effect
throughout the globe. Gross said that And these are precisely

However, in 1950, the Services returned to using a single test, the Armed Forces Qualification
Test (AFQT). This test was developed and modeled after the AGCT, and was the first test used
in the military as a screening instrument. It measured the individual s general ability to grasp
military training within in the necessary allotted time, and it also offered a uniform measure of
the individual s potential performance in the military. Also, tests like The Army Classification
Battery and the Navy Basic Test Battery were used to classify recruits into service specific jobs.
In 1968, the ASVAB was introduced as a part of the Student Testing Program. The Air Force was
the first to use the ASVAB in 1973, followed by the Marine Corps in 1974. However, the Army
and Navy did not adopt the ASVAB until 1976, after the Department of Defense decided that all
Services should use it for the purpose of screening enlistees and placing them in military jobs. The
AFQT has been mostly retained and is now a subtest of the ASVAB. Since the introduction and
adoption of the ASVAB, it has undergone many changes as far as content and scoring.
Scoring for the ASVAB uses the IRT model. The model underlying the ASVAB scoring is a three

Genital Herpes Facts
The Sexually Transmitted Disease Genital herpes (to creep) is very common in most Americans
especially adolescents. Genital herpes is transmitted through sexual contact and other physical

Once a person is infected with the virus it stays in their body for life. Once you have contracted
this virus it is easy to pass it on to someone else even if the virus is not active. The virus remains
in certain nerve cells of the body forever, which can produce symptoms on and off in infected

There are so many people who are uneducated about genital herpes; it s more common than
known. There are at least 45 million people infected by this virus and many are as young as 12
years of age. Studies show that 1 out of 5 adolescents/adults are infected with the Herpes Simplex
Virus. 1 out of 4 women are infected with genital herpes. This virus is more common in women
than in men likely because of the male to female transmission.
Genital herpes can be passed through skin to skin contact. Once a person has contracted the
virus it is fairly easy to pass it along to someone else through various ways. The number one way
is by having sex with someone who is shedding the herpes virus either during an outbreak (As
pertains to genital herpes, the virus becomes active and produces visible symptoms, such as
redness and sores) or during a period with no symptoms. Kissing someone with herpes on the
mouth, through casual, oral, anal, and vaginal sex as well as skin to skin contact with the infected
area. Objects such as toilet seats, public seating, and hot tubs rarely spread the virus.
The signs and symptoms of genital herpes are different with each person who has the virus. Some
people with genital herpes mistake their symptoms for simple skin irritations such as razor burn,
jock itch, or even a yeast infection. People often assume that because the symptoms may

Those who practice behaviour therapy are called behaviourists and tend to look more at specific,
learned behaviours and how the environment has an impact on those behaviours. (2) They tend to
look for treatment outcomes that are objectively measurable. (3) Most behaviour therapists use
interventions, structured interviews, or different behavioural rating forms, these different
assesments are used so the therapist can determine exactly what the individuals problem may be. As
behaviour therapists believe that current behaviours arise from previous physical events, I do not
think that this therapy would be best suited to a paitent with an Internet addiction disorder, I believe
that the patient has an underlying disorder such as depression and or anxiety. Researchers suggest
that persons with social anxiety disorder often feel more comfortable using online communication
methods versus face to face interactions due to high levels of fear and anticipation of threat and
negative evaluation associated with live interactions. Furthermore, research has established a clear
connection between social anxiety and problematic internet use but little is known about the
specific factors involved in this connection. (4) Internet addiction disorder has only recently been

Optic Neuritis Case Studies
Optic Neuritis
Introduction
Optic neuritis (ON) is a disease related to the eye that causes visual impairment. ON arises due to
the inflammation and demyelination of the optic nerve, affecting interpretation of visual signals
causing blurred, grey or dim vision. More often than not, ON is monocular in scope however
there are cases where both eyes are affected. ON has been known to be highly associated with
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) however an individual does not have to have MS to be diagnosed with ON.

Acute ON usually involves a singular eye being affected whereby 90% of ON cases take place;
the other 10% of cases occurring in both eyes is found to occur more frequently in children
under the age of 15. The Optic Neuritis Treatment Trials (ONTT) identified vision loss and eye
pain as the most common symptoms found in patients with acute unilateral ON. Vision loss was
found to occur steadily over a period of a few hours to a few days, with a peak in between 1 2
weeks, whilst eye pain occurred in 92% of those affected and would worsen through eye
movement. These visual defects however would usually resolve itself with care, with the ONTT
presenting 56% of participants being clear after one year and 73% cleared after 10 (Cleary et
al., 1997). In other cases, a patient may become affected with papillitis (intraocular ON) causing
hyperemia leading to the swelling of the optic disc; a point of exit for optic ganglion cells. This
area is important for the major blood vessels to supply the retina and thus aid in interpreting visual
signals to be passed through the optic nerve into the brain. пѓ

  • 4. Combating Resistance to Organizational Change Essay Combating Resistance to Organizational Change By any objective measure, the amount of important, frequently distressing, change in organizations has grown enormously over the last two decades (Kotter, 1996). Jeffrey M. Hiatt, CEO of Prosci Inc., (as cited by Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly Konopaske, 2009, p. 481) explained, thirty years ago, a foturne 100 probably had one or two enterprisewide change intitiatives goiong on; today that number is proably between 20 and 25. The speed of global, economic, and techological development makes change an ineveitable element of organiztional life. Change is a pervasive, perisitent, and permenant condition for all organizations (Gibson, et al., 2009). Organizational change means different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If organizations are to thrive and be sustaining, they need to respond to the dynamics of their environment with change. However, change is not a singular event with an isolated focus (Spector, 2007). Effective strategic renewal is a combination of the three faces of change turnaround, which targets costs; technology, which targets internal process; and behavioral, which targets employee actions and interactions (Spector, 2007). In a discussion on change management, particularly management by control versus management by shaping, Palmer, et al. (2009) draw a similar conclusion that organizations and human systems are complex and evolving and therefore cannot be reduced to a single, linear objective of maximizing shareholder value (p. 50). Forces for Change Despite some variations in change approach labels among academic research, it seems generally accepted that forces for change are the catalyst for change itself. Gibson, et al. (2009) classified forces for change into two groups; environmental and internal, and further described environmental forces as those generally beyond management s control and internal forces generally within management s control. These forces for change trigger an intervention or change process that can take any of three approaches: structural, behavioral, or technological (Gibson, et al. 2009). Similarly, Spector (2007) discussed change approaches as those of organizational turnarounds, behavioral and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impact Of Stalinism Assess the impact of Stalinism on the Soviet State until 1941 1st paragraph Stalin, the cult of personality Stalin s cult of personality, derived through propaganda, censorship and education, was an essential element of Stalinism which had a significant impact on the society and culture of the Soviet State between until 1941. Stalin s 50th birthday on 21 December 1929 initiated the moment in Stalin s dictatorship in which the leader became an object of worship. Millions of party member came to compare Stalin to Lenin, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Eventually the cult of Stalin saw him as a political, military, scientific and philosophical genius. Stalin s Five Year Plans included the embarkment of huge industrial projects and a campaign to collectivise agriculture. Almost all party members agreed that the Soviet State would require massive industrial growth to achieve a secure society. Collectivisation was to be undertaken to ensure food supplies to the cities and help mechanisation, increase output and reduce costs . The first of Stalin s Five Year Plans reflected Lenin s ideas of giving priority to industries such as hydro electric power, coal, iron, steel ships, railways, and machinery. However, this first plan failed due to falls in food and consumer goods output and the many unrealistic plan targets. The second of the Five Year Plans was scheduled to begin in October 1928 and focused on the production of consumer goods for the workers and peasants to increase their production, as well as development of heavy industry base for the military. The third of the Five Year Plans was intended to increase the supply of scarce consumer goods. • 6. Family And Family Life 50 years ago, a prominent stereotype in America portrayed the men as hardworking breadwinners while on the opposite side of the spectrum the woman stayed home taking care of the house, children, cooking and cleaning. In the current generation, a lot has changed, roles have slightly switched and men and women both have the opportunity to work in the field they desire. These changes have brought new values and brought forth many obstacles with balancing the family/work life. Although the stereotype about the father being the one working and the motherstaying home changed significantly over the years, when both parents are working and trying to keep their family together there are many obstacles that come along. In today s society, many face the complication of not being able to spend enough time with their children due to work, not being as flexible in balancing the work life versus family life and having to face the situation of trying to pick between choosing their child over a dream job. To begin with, today it is very common that both parents go to work in order to support their family, but sometimes either mom, dad, or both can be working too much and not realize that they can be missing out on being a part of their child s life later regretting their pass decisions as their children grow older. It is very common that some parents put more time into working rather than spending time with their child and do not realize that it affects their family and their child due to ... Homosexuality In Canadian Society Homosexuality Families were worried that if their child was exposed to homosexuality, or were themselves gay, that their morals would be tarnished and they would embark towards promiscuous behaviour. Books were given to teens providing advice on how to reach normality . They were trying to scare kids into believing that heterosexuality was the only option and anything otherwise was not normal. They also wanted to guilt the children into believing that being gay would not only ostracize yourself, but would also shame your family. Families would tell their children that they needed to be heterosexual to defend Canada. They would also use examples from Canadian society as per what would happen if they did end up gay. Communism was a major factor in this family structure because it influenced the civil defence movement that gave housewives new roles in society, while allowing the men to go out and work to be the breadwinner. Children had to be censored from the world of communism so not to risk their beliefs from being influenced. Then there was the pressure from the government telling the families that it was being patriotic to follow the new social structure and if people did otherwise they were seen as communist supporters. Lastly, there was the pressure that society put on each other. The nuclear family was the accepted lifestyle and if you did not follow it, most people would look down on you. Homosexuality is one of the best examples of this ostracization within Canada during the Cold War. The roles were so clear cut and heterosexuality was deemed the only lifestyle for Canadian citizens. • 8. Why Is Beowulf Epic Or Awesome Beowulf is an epic poem, but you already know that. But by modern terms, I would definitely classify this poem as epic or awesome . I don t quite understand why, but I really enjoyed this poem. It was very easy to read. I was able to comprehend all of the text without any trouble. From the beginning of the story, you know that the heroic character is going to have some divine motivations. Beowulfwill become the idol of Geats, he will gain much glory and respect and a little bit of fame. Clearly, these were his motivations for all of his courageous acts and he certainly fulfilled his expectations. When Beowulf agrees to battle Grendel, he is purely accepting the challenge because he feels it is his moral obligation. He knows it is his duty to defend and protect the citizens of Geats. Obviously, no one honestly wants to fight a massive lizard man, who can crush thirty men at once, but hey, let s let Beowulf give it a shot. Surprisingly, Beowulf tells the King that he wants to fight the monster with his bare hands; grappling, would be a better way to describe his intentions. I am still not completely sure why Beowulf chose to deny any and all kinds of weapons, but his insane game plan ends up working, so I guess that s all that truly matters ... We can deceive you in front of your very eyes, and you still wouldn t know what is going on. Girls fight dirty, and Beowulf is prepared. They are committing crimes that an adult would make, but how are we supposed to punish them? Are we just supposed to smack them on the hand and think they ll stop the nonsense or do we punish them as adults and hope for the good? Ever since the 1990 s crime in kids has rose tremendously and nobody knows how to stop the bar from rising. Putting the kid in juvenile will send them a message saying it is okay for them to kill another kid and they will be forgiven, but when they are sent to prison with adults they will then learn their lesson and why they should never commit a crime. • 10. Alexis de Tocqueville and James Madison Alexis de Tocqueville and James Madison had two distinctly different philosophical views when it came to the problem of majority tyranny. In Tocqueville and the Tyranny of the Majority, Morton J. Horwitz discusses in length the writings of the Frenchman when he came to and became fascinated by America. Horowitz argues each man believes the public s best interests and freedoms were being terrorized. The former (de Tocqueville) believed that society itself is a monster, but the latter (Madison) believed danger came from a temporarily impassioned majority making lasting decisions in government. The problem that has prevented us from solving tyranny in government is the lingering ignorance combined with the open interpretation of each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a page is taken from Tocqueville s book, and America examines another country as an example, England is a good model for dealing with this situation. In England, their Parliament is made up of several parties (many interests), that form alliances for majority power. While it is a majority, it is very diverse and thus, prevents it from being absorbed with one sole mission. Ultimately however, tyranny or oppression of any form can be eventually overcome with education. If the general public becomes informed and engaged again, the apathy that has been plaguing the populace can be beaten in more ways than one. A rise in voting from the poor and less educated will allow for more of their interests to be represented, since they are the group that votes the least. If that occurs the GOP will not only have to modify their platform to be less off putting to minorities, but also a platform more helpful and beneficial for those less financially advantaged and in the 47% . It is a circle. If the public feels more informed, they are more likely to vote, and if they vote, that will bring them power to help modify the current interests to those for the general good. With the concept of majority tyranny in mind, the founder s, including Madison, divided the power of the government into three different branches. The need ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In regards to stereotypes, Minnie later comes to think her friend Chuck is gay or bisexual because of his affinity for having friends within the LGBT community, though he claims this is untrue and she believes him when she remembers he still has long hair, and most guys I know chop it all off as soon as they come out. • 14. Analysis Of The Film Black Robe In the 1991 film Black Robe, which is set during the 1630s Beaver War in North America, the French make attempts to search for and continue to convert a Huron Indian tribe to Christianity. To complete this mission, the founder of the French settlement in Quebec, Samuel Champlain, sends a Jesuit priest, Father LaForgue, off to find the Indian tribe, and a man named Daniel and a family of Indians, who are a part of the Algonquintribe, accompany Father LaForgue on this journey. Some historical events that are mentioned in American Colonies by Alan Taylor that are dramatized by the film include the relationship between the Jesuits and the Indians and the love story. While, to an extent, the relationship between the two parties had many moments of accuracy, the film also made it seem like no matter what the Jesuit priest always was only looking out for the Indian people in order to convert them. The film ignores the side of the relationship where the French Jesuits primarily colonize the Indians, which ultimately leads to the death of thousands of Indians. Also, the love story between Daniel and Annuka who is the daughter of Chomina, who is accompanying the French on their mission, was dramatized. Recognizing that this love story s purpose is to entertain the viewer, the way the cultures collide is not as accurate as it could be. Overall, however, the film does deal with these dramatizations in a responsible and fairly accurate way. In the film, the French perceive the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The third premise works off of the idea that it is greater for something to exist in reality than simply as an idea in our minds (Cowan Spiegel, 2009, p. 258). The idea is that existence is a quality that can make something greater than something equal in all aspects except for existence. A red balloon in my mind would not be as great as a red balloon that actually exists. So, in order for the Greatest Conceivable Being to actually be the greatest, it needs to exist in reality. Finally, if you go over 99 you are out and the last player playing wins. Tickner And Sjoberg Tickner and Sjoberg s presentation of feminist thought within International Relations scholarship provides a compelling, if somewhat brief, introduction to the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary political science. The two argue that the disciplinary primacy of rationalist, black box approaches waned as international relations scholars began employing sociologyand interpretive methods to their work (DKS, 180 181). From this diversion, feminist theories of international relations were constructed. I found the authors discussion of this Third Debate to be particularly interesting, as I knew little regarding the roles and development of reflectivist and critical theory before reading this section (DKS, 180). Why were these empowerment movements largely ineffectual within academic circles? In summation, why did International Relations wait until the 1980s and 1990s to view the world through a woman s eyes? Explanations which seem reasonable include the male dominated nature of academia, alongside the prevalence of rationalist thought after the birth of the discipline. Furthermore, the comparatively late formation of International Relations as a field of study may have slowed its progress toward inclusivity and experience sharing. Secondly, if classical realists are truly focused upon the structure of communities based upon the health of their relationships, how is it possible that gender relations were not one of Thucydides main concerns? Informative Essay On Gymnastics Gymnastics If I asked you to guess what the real meaning of gymnastics is, you d be surprised to find out that you are probably wrong, and what the true definition is. According to softschools.com, gymnastics true meaning comes from the Greek word, gymnos, which means naked. Nimblesports.com also states that the reason for this name is that in ancient Greece men were prepared for war by doing gymnastics, and in doing so, they were naked. Gymnastics is one of the oldest sports in the world, being made more than 2,000 years ago by a German man named Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (www.fig gymnastics.com). The Portrayal Of Nurses In The Media The purpose of this paper is to explain how nurses are portrayed in the media and how it affects both how the population views nurses and people considering entering the nursing field. Nurses in the media are often portrayed as subservient to the doctors, having affairs with doctors, or as sex symbols (often seen in music videos or as Halloween costumes). Nurses are not really shown to have that much power or autonomy in working with patients. We are also not shown performing some of the tasks we perform on a day to day basis such as IV starts, monitoring patients for reactions from blood transfusions or chemotherapy or even trying to be the referee between the patient and family members in the case of disagreement over the plan of care. Some people ask if I just empty bedpans or change adult depends all night. I also get the question of why didn t I just become a doctor because all the nurses do is follow the doctor s orders. In that instance it then becomes my job to inform people of exactly what my job entails. According to Meuhlbauer (2012), The overarching theme was that nurses need to be proactive in influencing the public s image of the profession (p.21). The negative portrayal of nurses also contributes to the current nursing shortage because no one wants to work a job they feel is not respected. A lot of patients only feel comfortable if they hear information come directly from the doctor, not from the nurse. The theme is Why be a nurse, when you can be the doctor? Blais (2016) noted that as nursing education evolved and nurses began to understand more about what constituted the practice of nursing, the boundaries expanded. During the 1970s and 1980s nurses began to seek more autonomy in the practice of nursing, particularly with regards to physicians and hospital administration (p.315). It s easy to, in all honesty, because we have been raised in a society in which education has been held at the utmost importance. In the United States women are held at an equal level with men, we ve fought for this sense of equality for several years and unfortunately, not all women across the world have had that same success. Women from other countries do not have half of the rights that we do here in the United States, and this is something that we seem to never really think about. Saudi Arabiais just one of the many countries around the world in which the women do not have as many rights as men do. Being a feminist at heart with a hunger for education, it piqued my interest to research the rights of women and education in Saudi Arabia. If I m being honest, I had expected it to be much worse than it is, yet it could be so much better at the same time. Saudi women should have every right to educate themselves in any aspect they want, and though they have fought their way to gaining some leverage, there are still necessary steps that need to be taken. This aim is important as it will help to uncover the psychological processes that inspire the various life circumstances of lower and upper class individuals. Furthermore, research noted empathic accuracy tends to increase with more interdependence and may be an important predictor of relationship results and social adjustment. The author asserts that research studies supporting these theoretic arguments are suggestive but limited as they have not addressed how class based perceptual tendencies may have pronounced effects on emotional processes. The current study was conducted in three different experiments. First, participants were tested on whether or not lower social class is related to an elevated empathic accuracy. In the second experiment, researchers tested whether or not social class predicts accuracy in judging emotions during interaction. In addition, researchers examined whether or not a more pronounced focus on the context explains the relationship between social class and empathic accuracy.
