Child Development Theories
Child Development: An Examination of Three Theories There are a lot of theories regarding child
development. Three of these theories are Bioecological Theory, Social Cognitive Theory and
Information Processing Theory. This paper will discuss these theories by comparing and contrasting
them. The first theory is the Bioecological Theory developed by Urie Bronfenbrenner. This theory is
based on the nature vs. nurture idea. Bronfenbrenner believed development of a child was determined
by the relationships among the environment or environmental systems around them. Within this
environment there are five distinct systems which are related to a child s relationship with the school
environment, family environment and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the inclusion of these three theories among others, into the mental health care field one can see
the similarities of these theories. All three of these theories deal with the environment of a child, the
learning process by which the child was exposed, the development of the cognitive ability of the child
and by the social development of the child. All three theories believe the environment plays an
important part in the cognitive development of children. They each believe it has an impact on how
the child learns and develops. They all agree when there is a disruption of the process such as the child
being subjected to mental or physical neglect or abuse the child can grow to be developmentally
challenged or develop a mental illness as a result. What may be harder to determine is the differences
in these three theories. The outcome of each would seem to be the same. Each theory is based on
cognitive development and the relationship the environment has on that development. What we may
need to look at is how these three theories seem to think this development is attained. With
Brofenbrenner s theory of Bioecological development, he believed a child goes through five distinct
systems and learns their cognitive ability within each system while being exposed to the environment

Big Bang
it is important to understand what Big Bang Theory (BBT) is and is not. Contrary to the common
perception, it is not a theory about the origin of the universe. Rather, it describes the development of
the universe over time. This process is often called cosmic evolution . Over the last several decades
the basic picture of cosmology given by BBT has been generally accepted by astronomers, physicists
and the wider scientific community. However, no similar consensus has been reached on ideas about
the ultimate origin of the universe. This remains an area of active research and some of idea current
ideas are discussed below. That said, BBT is nevertheless about origins
In addition to being a theory about the origins of the basic building ... Show more content on

In both cases, the model implies that the universe is expanding into some larger, pre existing volume.
In fact, the theory says nothing like that. Instead, the expansion of the universe is completely self
contained.
People often have difficulty with the idea that space itself expands . An easier way to understand this
concept is to think of it as the distance between any two points in the universe increasing. First, the
distance between A and B is a function of time and second, the distance is always increasing.
To really understand what this means and how one would define distance in such a model, it is
necessary to have some idea of what Einstein s theory of General Relativity (GR) is about: Space tells
matter how to move, matter tells space how to curve. Another way of describing GR would be
something like: Energy determines the geometry and changes in the geometry of the universe, and, in
turn, the geometry determines the movement of energy .
So, given this, how does one get BBT from GR? The basic equations come directly from Einstein s
GR equation under two key assumptions: First, that the distribution of matter and energy in the
universe is homogeneous and, second, that the distribution is isotropic. A simpler way to put this is
that the universe looks the same everywhere and in every direction = cosmological principle.
If we adopt these simple assumptions, the implications for the geometry of the universe are quite
profound. First, one

DOCUMENT ANALYSIS LUCRETIUS: EPICUREAN PHILOSPHY AT ROME
Within Lucretius dialectic and poetic writings in Robert Latham s translation of Lucretius: On the
Nature of the Universe, three major topics are discussed: philosophy, religion, and science. Lucretius
was devoted to the works of his teacher and renowned philosopher Epicurus, praising him as a
prophetic or god like figure. His poetic prose uses a host of concrete examples to show validity in his
beliefs. Lucretius effectively supports the Epicurean worldview that everything can be explained by
material forces. Memmius is the addressee of the poem, and Lucretius enlightens him to the nature of
happiness, how religion is based on superstition, and the idea of atoms composing earthly matter.
Evaluating reality gives mankind the natural answers to life s questions without concerning
themselves with gods, prophets, or beliefs, and this was Lucretius main task in his work. Lucretius
was a Roman poet who believed that the Epicurean systems provided the most important and valuable
way of thinking. He pledged all of his poetic and persuasive writing skills towards presenting
Epicurus teachings in a concise expose. A key Epicurean doctrine which he explores is the concept of
the Nature of Happiness. Philosophy, in this mindset, is a refuge from the trials and tribulations of the

Offerings To An Ulcerated God Analysis
My favorite poem was Offerings to an Ulcerated God by Martin Espada. The reason for this is it was
the only poem that really made me empathize and feel emotions for the characters. It jumps right in
with a quote from the landlord s lawyer. He says Mrs. Lopez refuses to pay rent and so she has to
leave. Mrs. Lopez is the tenet and only speaks spanish, so the judge ask for an interpreter. But, all the
interpreters are working elsewhere. A volunteer interpreter stands and Mrs. Lopez shows the
interpreter pictures of her apartment/house. The conditions in this apartment/ house are horrible. It has
rats, no doorknob and the water in the toilet is frozen. Mrs. Lopez tells the interpreter that she knows
the law, will not pay because of the horrible conditions and wants to speak. Without hearing from Mrs.
Lopez, the judge states that she must pay and has 10 days to leave. Everyone accepts this gets up to
leave. The interpreter is ashamed he could not help her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martin Espada certainly has that gift. On Line # 3 4, the landlord says Mrs. Lopez, must pay and they
want her out. But, it s how he says it that brings up an image in my mind. He tugs at his ring while he
says it, and that just brings up an image in my mind of someone tugging on there ring. Secondly, on
line #12, it says Mrs. Lopez help up a poker hand of snapshots. This very clearly describes exactly
how she held up her photos, and also tells us she has quite a few photos. Line # 24, Martin Espada
writes, the courtroom clattered with the end of business. The reader suddenly knows and can picture in
there head exactly what happens. Finally, on line 30 31, it says, Mrs. Lopez stood before the bench,
still holding up her fan of snapshots. In my head, I just pictures this poor lady who doesn t know if she
s being evicted or not, still holding up her

Entertainment During The Great Depression Essay
The average person working in the movie business in the 1930s made about $92,500 as someone
working a moderate job only made about $890 a year, equally (COH) about $12,500 today.
Throughout the Great Depression entertainment was an escape for people in America, which still
continues to be used today.
During the Great Depression entertainment such as movies, music/radio, and dancing provided people
with and escape from the harsh realities of what was going on around them. As for movies, while
(SUB) people in the 1930s were struggling because of their loss of jobs. Hollywood had entered what
was called the golden age ( Popular 2), the Hollywood golden age lasted from 1930 1950, and
consisted of people and new movies flourishing due to people s lack of work and extra free time,
popular examples of movies include: Snow White and the Seven dwarfs, The Wizard of Oz , King
Kong, Frankenstein , and Dracula. New people, specifically child star Shirley Temple ( The 1930s 1)
played a key role by influencing the younger population. Even though movies were popular, they had
to appeal to a mass audience in order to stay running ( The 1930s 1), in that sense cartoons and family
friendly movies we re most popular. The air conditioned theaters also provided people with a luxury
outside of their homes for a couple hours, after all seeing a movie only cost a person $0.27 ( Popular
1) opposed to the average price today of $8.61. Even though ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Renewable Energy And Natural Gas
Finally, the last form of power generation to be examined before the moral analysis is renewable
energy, for example wind and solar power. Renewable energy is the least established method of
generating electricity and is therefore still heavily tied up in research. By definition, renewable energy
sources have a theoretically limitless amount of energy production since they do not deplete any
resources through their use. This means that for as many years as humans inhabit the earth they can
use renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro power or others, which has much more potential
than the 100 years for coal and natural gas. Renewable energy also has fewer negative environmental
impacts since it does not directly release any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One utilitarian approach used to determine which act is most ethical, is cost benefit analysis. This
analysis compares the potential benefits against the costs (financial, physical risks etc.) of possible
decisions. For choosing which energy source the public should invest money in and engineers should
invest research in, the criterion detailed above are compared. For cost benefit analysis, shown in Table
1, the effect on future generations is incorporated at the same value as the effect on current
generations. For the cost criterion, renewable energy is currently the least beneficial in regards to price
to the public, cost of updating current technologies, researching new technologies, and implementing
new infrastructure. Natural gas has lower costs related to infrastructure and technology changes than
renewable energy, but when compared to coal, it has higher public cost as well as higher
implementation costs. Consequently, for the greatest amount of happiness for people, which is related
to lower costs, coal is the best energy source. Furthermore, natural gas has a much higher efficiency
than renewables and coal, which have similar efficiencies. Human fulfilment, coming from happiness
in the utilitarian theory, relates to the best/most effective use of resources, i.e. people do not like to
waste time or money. Therefore, natural gas, with

Pros And Cons Of Free Trade Essay
Pros and Cons of Free Trade I. Introduction Free trade, the ever present driving force behind our
national and world economy, is a trade policy embroiled in controversy. It is considered by most
economists to be an almost perfect trade policy, barring a few negative effects. Free trade has been
shown to increase production, output and income levels in an economy. However, there are many
people that view free trade as destroyer of economies and a catalyst of poverty. Critics of free trade
have pointed out that in the short run, free trade causes a loss of jobs which in turn causes a rise in
poverty levels. It is interesting to note that the argument for free trade and the argument against free
trade are inverses of each other. Proponents of free trade see it as a tool to stimulate an economy while
detractors see it as a policy which exacerbates poverty, causes dependency and reduces economic
stability. In general, there is no consensus on free trade. Economists see free trade as the devil that we
know. While imperfect, it is the best we have to work with. Popular opinion sees free trade as a cause
of inequality. Even though it alleviates poverty and causes economic stimulation in the long run, it can
cause the exact opposite in the short run. The pros and the cons of free trade must then be weighed,
which will then allow us to determine if free trade is truly a beneficial trade policy. Therefore, this
discussion will weigh the benefits and harms of free trade and will

The Trochlear Nerve
The Trochlear Nerve (Cranial Nerve IV) is the longest and thinnest nerve emerging from the central
nervous system, more specifically the dorsal aspect of the Midbrain, its nucleus is located just below
the Oculomotor Nucleus (Cr. III) at the level of the inferior colliculus, its fibers arc around the
periaqueductal grey matter, decussate before exiting the midbrain on its dorsal aspect by piercing the
superior medullary vellum, goes around its dorsum, passing between the cerebral peduncles and the
temporal lobe; then it courses between the Superior and Posterior Cerebral Arteries (SCA, PCA),
pierces the dura just beneath the free edge of the Tentorium cerebelli behind the posterior clinoid
process, enters the cavernous sinus and runs through its lateral wall above the ophthalmic nerve and

Automatist Utopian Themes In Acharnians and Birds
During the 5th century BCE, Old Comedy was the most prevalent comedic form in Ancient Greece.
This was largely due to the success of Athenian playwright, Aristophanes. His plays were frenetic,
visual and personal, often containing historical figures. In particular, Aristophanes comedies contained
automatist utopian themes that were used to satirize various aspects of 5th century Greece, often in
Athens. The present essay will first define utopia and the automatist subtype. Then it will explore
Aristophanes usage of automatist utopian themes in his plays Acharnians and Peace. Specifically, this
paper will argue that Aristophanes used themes associated with automatist utopia to satirize war, the
excess of the aristocracy, and the ignorance of the lower classes in 5th century Greece.
Before analyzing specific passages from Aristophanic comedy, it is essential to understand the
definition of utopia. The word, utopia was invented by author Thomas More in his 1516 book of the
same name. More derived the word from the Greek, ou topos and eu topos [which together make]...a
place which does not exist, that is not here, but which is also good (Ruffell 474). This definition is
interesting given that many of Aristophanes plays take place in 5th century Athens. It suggests that
Aristophanes was creating an Athenian world that was better but not based in reality.
This essay will focus predominantly on Aristophanes usage of automatist utopian tropes. The principal
component of an

Final Project: Research Essay
Leonard Hermoso
Art Institute of California: Hollywood Abstract
Since its early days, the media have always had a hand at molding who we are as a society. It is an
extension of our culture and who we are. It has been a conduit of knowledge and information from
person to person. A consistent attribute of media is the desire of the elites to control it and a resistance
from people that want more freedom from such influences. Today, it is all around us, affecting most, if
not all, of our daily lives. It influences how kids grow up in our society. It creates ideals that we want
so much to achieve; labels us in order to promote the consumer culture. Being filled with media all the
time, it can affect our society in a way that most people would think are negative. It can be a source of
unrealistic expectations, a distorted look on reality, a distorted image of beauty and a reason health to
deteriorate, be it physically or mentally. The media is a blessing for us, but one must be careful with it
for it will always be accompanied with things that can have a negative effect on us.
The media has become a part of us, a part of something that shapes who we are, our desires, and what
we expect to have in life. Throughout his book: Understanding Media Cultures: Social Theory and
Mass Communication, Stevenson Nick asserted that the media has become an extension of who we
are, and an extension of what we have become and can

Valencia High School Sports Medicine Personal Statement
The most significant educational opportunity I have taken advantage of is the Valencia High School
Sports Medicine Program. This program prepares students for education and training in healthcare. I
took advantage of this program s resources in the following ways. After volunteering with my sports
medicine class at SoCal Physical Therapy, I was prompted to start a service project of my own. On
weekends in 2014 and 2015, I volunteered as the sports medicine provider for a local youth football
team. I provided first aid, preventative taping, injury evaluations, and on the field care under the
supervision of a licensed paramedic. At the time, I do not think I understood the gravity of what I was

Compare And Contrast Monty Python And The Holy Grail
Chivalry and courtly love are two Arthurian sentiments displayed in Monty Python and the Holy
Grail, Le Morte d Arthur, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
differs from Le Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight because the film satirizes
chivalry and courtly love while the other works are upholding it as orthodox. Courtly love from the
Middle Ages consisted of knights chasing a fair maiden while always being respectful and courteous
to her. Chivalry is a code of conduct that King Arthur s conventional knights uphold, which includes
remaining honorable and ready to help the weak. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a lampoon that
utilizes satire to ridicule chivalry and courtly love to not only amuse ... Show more content on

This chivalrous act is derided in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when King Arthur confronts the
Black Knight blocking the path to the bridge. King Arthur insists on crossing the bridge instead of
going around, forcing a confrontation between the Arthur and the Black Knight. Arthur shows no
mercy in the battle and cuts the Black Knight s limbs off, one by one. This demonstrates satire because
as the Black Knights limbs are being cut off, King Arthur continues to slice at him, displaying an
exaggeration of showing no mercy. The Black Knight persists against Arthur, also mocking how one
must never recoil before the enemy, even if one s limbs are removed. In Le Morte d Arthur, King
Arthur is merciless against Modred, his bastard son whom attempts to take over King Arthur s
kingdom, and pierces Modred with a spear. This instance is an example of chivalry because King
Arthur does not hesitate to kill his own son nor does he display clemency. Modred as a response does
not recoil, which is also is in the code of conduct of chivalry. When a knight faces the enemy, he
should never flinch or shy away because of fear. This aspect of chivalry is parodied in Monty Python
and the Holy Grail when King Arthur and his knights brawled with the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog.
The Killer Rabbit is an unearthly creature because it leaps incredible lengths and wrenches a knight s
head off with one bite. This scene is executed to make the confrontation appear ridiculous to the
audience by the otherworldly rabbit decapitating one of King Arthur s praised knights, proving them
to be inept in battle. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the Green Knight, a mystic man with a
green complexion and a body made of nature, challenges a knight to a beheading game. When Sir
Gawain accepts this challenge, he decapitates the Green Knight, whom proceeds to ride away

Second Hand Smoke Research Paper
In the world today we have many things that are harmful and dangerous to us. Ordinarily, when we
think of someone causing you harm, it is not so close to home. Your mother and father are the furthest
from your mind of people who would do something to harm you. In many cases, they are the people
who can do the most harm. In this review I would like to determine if children ages unborn of
eighteen with daily exposure to tobacco smoke have a predisposition to asthma. I chose these ages
because this is when the child is unquestionably helpless and vulnerable to the parents, when they are
living with them. They have no other options than to be around the parent and cannot take care of
themselves outside of the home.

Parallelism And Connection In The Double Life Of Veronique
Parallelism and Connection in The Double Life of Veronique All my life I ve felt like I was here and

Veronique are two women who live in two different places, but experience an unknown connection
with each other. Not far into the movie Weronika suddenly dies from an unknown cause. For the
remainder of the film, Veronique tries to understand why she now feels alone in the world and
eventually comes to fruition with the link between her and Weronkia. The film constantly portrays the
deep connection between the women, not only through similar appearances but also using other
elements. Through the excessive use of props and the repetition of the same song, the film creates a

because it didn t allow the government to deny radio broadcasting licenses [1]. In fact, the law did not

cryptocurrency we know today as bitcoin. This vision was one of true digital innovation, something
that had the potential to create a currency that was strictly electronic in execution. Working off of a
mining system, the very first block of currency created was dubbed Genesis . Just a few weeks later
the first bitcoin transaction would take place between Nakamoto and Hal Finney, a noted

Athaliah was Queen of Judah from 842 836 BC. She was the daughter of King Ahab and Queen
Jezebel of the northern kingdom of Israel. She also was the wife of King Jehoram of Judah, and the
mother of King Ahaziah.
Following Ahaziah s death at the hands of Jehu, Athaliah seized power and killed all members of the
royal family who were possible rivals for the throne, except for Joash, the infant son of Ahaziah, who
had been rescued by his Aunt Jehosheba.
When Joash was seven years old, Jehoiada the priest conspired to have the young boy crowned in the

Athaliah ripped her clothes in distress and yelled Treason! Treason! Jehoida the priest told the army

Built To Last Book Report
Built to Last Successful business habits of visionary companies can best be described in the book
Built to Last by Collins and Porras. Built to Last uses highly successful corporations that fall under
specific criteria to correctly describe how these companies became and still are visionary. The
visionary companies were researched and examined by using a set of control companies to find what
set them apart. This book accurately describes what makes a visionary company work. It diminishes
any misconceptions and myths that visionary companies may take on.

It s the fact that the true vision, the true point in which architecture takes on its clock building role, is
when the greatest creation becomes the company itself. This has to be one of the biggest
misconceptions of starting a company. I think to many people focus on one idea to start a company.
The idea they must realize is to be a successful lasting corporation they must have a foundation before
anything else.
A very important part of building a visionary company comes with a core ideology. At the same time
though core ideology must be subject to change with evolution. A company that can handle these two
majors facets is a company that will develop an employee base and stimulate the progress for growth
for years to come. All the visionary companies in this book showed exceptional knowledge for core
ideology and the need to modify the core itself. Some of the best core ideologies mentioned in the
book are broad but so direct that they seem almost common sense. For instance Merck s We are in the
business of preserving and improving human life, sounds quite broad but yet describes quite well what
Merck is about and has the ability to change for times of evolution. Merck s ideology is not only a
business statement but its what their employees work for. It gives them a sense of pride that their
company cares about what their products do other then how many products they sell. This type of
ideology is one that all companies

over 2015 sales . Business Intelligence plays a big role in today s business, it now used in every part
of the organization from supply chain to human resources (www.gartner.com). This paper will
compare two business intelligence software tools. First, I will define business intelligence (BI). Then,
I will examine the features of each of the BI tools. Next, I will discuss the pros and cons of each
software. This paper will focus on the capabilities and costs for each BI software. Lastly, this paper
will indicates which choice was made and an explanation of that choice. Business Intelligence (BI)
According to Sauter (2010), business intelligence is defined as a goal, information is provided to
decision makers in a timely manner to solve organizational problems or to act on opportunities for the
organization. The business intelligence system aids decision makers in better understanding problems
through data. Business intelligence has become necessary due to globalization and the rate of speed in
which business is conducted today, 24/7. Information alone, is not business intelligent. The
information must be intelligent (p. 56). Intelligent information is information that is important to the
organization and aligns with the organization s goal (Sauter, 2010). It

Positive And Negative Effects Of Gambling
Human psychology is one variable of many that can lead a human to addiction. For pathological
gamblers, this is no different. About 2.2% of the US population is considered to have a gambling
problem. As more and more states legalize online gambling, it s important to understand both the
positive and potential negative effects of it. Cognitive biases, which affect gamblers and non gamblers
alike, can explain the irrationalities of pathological gamblers, and how the casinos generally make out
in the end. Gambling could be defined as, to stake or risk money, or anything of value, on the outcome
of something involving chance. (dictionary.com) Gambling has long been a part of society, dating
back to 2300 B.C when the Chinese invented a gambling game called tiles. When done in moderation,
gambling could be seen as fun and entertaining to one. However, some people can t just have fun, they
spend their entire net worth and ruin their lives because of it. The average person may not understand
how gambling addiction comes about. After all, many people in society gamble in one form or another
whether it s pools with friends, home poker games, or an annual trip to the local casino. In addition, it
can be done once for most people, without getting addicted, similarly to drug addictions. Behavioral,

The denigration of memorisation is in fact a denigration of knowledge, and ultimately a defeat of the
educational ideal of stimulating problem solving and independent critical thinking. As Hirsch
(1996:247) points out:
Independent mindedness is always predicated on relevant knowledge: one cannot think critically
unless one has a lot of knowledge of the issue at hand. Critical thinking is not merely giving one s
opinion. In fact, common sense tells one that the person who can think critically and who can solve
problems is, without exception, one who has sufficient knowledge of the relevant issue or problem.
Thus, to attain success in an exam, both in questions that are straightforward and questions that
require independent critical thinking and problem solving one must, first, understand the subject
content and, second, one must commit the subject content to memory.

Separation And Ordeal Stages By Saadawi
Saadawi then uses the separation and ordeal stages as a platform to introduce the plight and inequality
of women that is deeply embedded in a patriarchal class system in which women endure from a young
age.
In fact, Firdaus begins to despise the society she s in, and believes a woman s life is bleak and
miserable. Her ordeal stage comprises of long and continuous battles between her and the men in the
world. The battles with her husband, Sheikh Mahmoud, left her emotionally and physically wounded
so she ran away only to encounter another battle named Bayoumi. These ordeals occur one after the
other, and after Bayoumi comes her descent into prostitution with her mentor Sharifa. Each one of
these arduous and impossible tasks symbolizes an inherent obstacle she must overcome. For example,

Symbolism In Shrek
In the beginning of the movie Shrek, the damsel in distress, Fiona, is trapped in a tower guarded by a
fire breathing dragon waiting for the day where her prince would come. Instead of being saved by a
prince, she is surprised with an ogre and a donkey that came to her rescue. In the end, Fiona had a life
decision in front of her. She had to choose between Lord Farquaad, a selfish man who wanted to use
Fiona for her title, or Shrek, the ogre who came to her rescue. In order to break the curse, she had to
kiss her true love, and she chose Shrek because he genuinely loved her. Mary Wollstonecraft and
Virginia Woolf most likely would not have agreed with most of the ideals of this movie because it

Analysis Of Volkswagens Leadership Differs From Other...
External Analysis
A. Macro Environment
1. Cultural Trends
Volkswagens leadership differs from other German car makers in that their supervisory board which
governs over the executive board also includes local politicians (maybe a key factor in their recent
scandal). The other major auto makers in Germany all have supervisory boards as well but they are in
place primarily to govern the executives and look out for the interests of the shareholders. This being
said the two politicians are looking out for the best interest of the local workers and executives, so
between them and the eight local people elected to the supervisory board it gives them an
overwhelming majority in votes that may have a negative impact on the production of vehicles there.
Their work culture is a demanding pace with expectations set high for management and workers alike.
Although they have a policy in place to allow workers to voice their concerns about the cars or
subsystems that is generally not the case as far as the executive level goes with many directors and
managers fearing for their jobs if anything subpar is brought up.(1)
2. Demographic Trends
Over the past fifteen years Volkswagen has set about to redefine their target audience in car buyers to
the more environmentally conscious consumer. This came about during a time when they had acquired
the Audi, Porsche, and Bentley lines of cars. Having those available as an income stream allowed VW
execs to gamble with the environmental movement going

Essay on Literary Analysis Of The Red D
Literary Analysis of The Masque of the Red Death
In the story, The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe, the author tries to create a specific
atmosphere to emphasize the action within the story. The setting of the story immensely helps to
create this atmosphere. Poe s descriptive setting aids in creating the atmosphere of the story by
developing mood, evoking feelings from the reader, and creating a false sense of security.
The setting of The Masque, which Poe effectively and thoroughly illustrates, helps to create a desired
atmosphere by developing the mood of the story. Poe describes the masque as a gay and magnificent
revel in which the prince had provided all the appliances of pleasure. ... Show more content on

Each room has two large windows that correspond in color to their respective rooms, excluding the
black apartment in which the windows are stained a blood red color. The last room causes the reader
to have rather dreary, dismal feelings of the room, feelings of uneasiness and death. This is in direct
contrast with all of the other rooms, as they tend to leave the impression of gaiety and bliss with the
reader. The sharp differentiation and vivid description of the last room as compared to all the others
gives the reader the feeling that this room is to be of importance later in the story and thereby helps
create the atmosphere for the story.
In The Masque, Poe also conveys a false sense of security with his first description of the abbey. He
calls it an extensive and magnificent structure which has a strong and lofty wall...[with] gates of iron
encircling it. After the courtiers have entered the abbey, the gates are welded shut, which the prince
believes is enough to keep the disease of the Red Death out. Poe even goes as far as to state that with
such precautions the courtiers might bid defiance to contagion. Poe is trying to convey the idea that
the masqueraders believe that they are completely safe within the abbey, and then show that when the
Red Death appears they could not escape death. This is done so that the reader can see that the whole

We are destroying the earth in order to survive. What is our Moral Responsibility?
Daniel Quinn has written a book about how things have come to be the way they are. He looks at the

as well as being a Gorilla. Being no ordinary Gorilla, Ishmael recognises the failing of human kind in

I believe anyone who reads this book will be made to stop and think about their contribution to the

pupils think of the world they live in and how they can help make it a better place. One thing Ishmael

until the modern world was introduced that earth began to suffer . The damage that came about due to
the modern world Ishmael has a solution. His answer to it is to move on from what he calls a taker

The Laughing Man Summary
In J.D. Salinger s The Laughing Man, the Chief protects the innocent Comanches from the horrors of
the real world. The Chief picks them up after school and takes them to parks and museums on a daily
basis. At the end of their day he will often give installments of The Laughing Man a fictional story, the
boys have loved since the first time they heard it. The Chief becomes their hero and, by playing this
role in their lives he takes on the responsibility to protect and care for them. However, his priorities
shift when Mary Hudson begins to spend time with the Chief while he is with the boys. The Chief
begins to crack under the pressure of having to take care of both the boys and Mary, and soon is only

a responsibility to remain composed and to shield young children from adult turmoil. Initially, the
Comanches adore everything about the Chief; therefore, he has to protect them. Being with the Chief
almost everyday of the week, the Comanches depend on him for a lot. Remembering an outing one

African American Vernacular English
African American Vernacular English Background: African American Vernacular English (AAVE) is
the variety previously known as Black English Vernacular or Vernacular Black English by
sociolinguists, and commonly called Ebonics outside the academic community. However, some
characteristics of AAVE are seemingly unique in its structure. It also includes a number of standard
and nonstandard English varieties are spoken by the US and the Caribbean people. AAVE has been the
core of many public debates and also the analysis of this variety has encouraged and sustained debates
amongst sociolinguists. Some speakers may use some special aspects of pronunciation and
vocabulary. Nevertheless, the grammatical features are not connected with the variety. Several
sociolinguists would reserve the term AAVE for varieties which are marked by the existence of
specific distinctive grammatical features and some of them are discussed below. The history of AAVE
and what language varieties it is related to are also a matter of argument. Some scholars confirm that
AAVE developed out a connection between speakers of West African languages and speakers of
vernacular English varieties. According to such an opinion, West Africans learnt English on
plantations in the southern Coastal States from very few native speakers. Some say that this led to the
development of a rudimentary pidgin, a very simple language which has been extended through a
process of colorization later. VOCABULARY: AAVE

The Issues On The Home Front
There is no hiding the problems in the United States. Put that on hold: how about the issues on the
home front. That s right, there is a service opportunity in our area right now, and we need your help!
How can you help, you say? The service doesn t require donations of money, but we are seeking your

To educate the public that are unaware of the circumstances on the South Dakota Indian Reservations.
To serve the youth in the Yankton Sioux Reservation.
To take action in resolving overdue concerns in our local communities.
Education, Service, and Action are the three tasks that must be met to accomplish our purposes.
What does it really mean to serve someone or something? The United States has become out of touch
with the idea of serving someone. When we think of service we think of a server in the food industry.
When was the last time you had the opportunity to serve someone whole heartedly without expecting
anything in return? Have you ever heard of Pay It Forward? In the average day of a middle class
citizen when is there time between a 40 hour a week job, a family to take care of, and any extra time

The subordinate status of women in America began with the premise of English common law within
Colonial America; these English social constructs within Colonial America were adopted into the
American legal status, thus playing a vital role in intimate partner violence against women in America
due to the implementation of the English doctrine that husbands are legally able to physically
discipline their wives and children if deemed necessary (Garcia, 2010; Gelles, 1997). Among the
many constructs of the English law, the separate women s sphere ideology, which designated a woman
s place within her family as a private sphere (i.e. home and family), while a man protected and
provided for her through the public sphere (i.e. work and politics) (Garcia, 2010). Although wife
battering laws have been passed since the Revolutionary War, they have been loosely upheld and
indifferently enforced due to the idea that wife discipline was a private affair and did not require the
authorities (Straus and Gelles, 1989). During the Victorian Era (1837 1901), a new image of
womanhood was founded and designated women as moral figures that were too delicate and frail to
engage in hard labor that most women (i.e. the lower and middle class) were familiar with. Pascale
and Schenome (as cited in Garcia, 2010) state that this social construct would later be known as the
cult of true womanhood , and could only be accomplished by the upper class men who could afford

Technology Has Great Potential For Improving Animal...
Biosensor technology has great potential for improving animal welfare, health and production
efficiency. The recent increasing incidence of diseases, such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy
(BSE), tuberculosis, brucellosis, mastitis, and foot and mouth, has raised concern in the livestock
industry and in society. Infectious diseases of livestock have major implications not only in animal
welfare and production efficiency but also in human health, and food safety and quality.
Most biosensor developments have been in the biomedical field, where many in vivo applications
demand small sizes. But it is lacking adversely in the field of milking animals and other livestock. The
primary considerations of biosensors were the physical sensor design, fluid transport, optical sensor
configuration, fluid mixing, sampling of the raw milk, and automation. The ideal biosensor would be a
probe, similar to that found in a pH meter. Since the standard enzyme immunoassay identification of
progesterone (EIA) is currently performed and standardized using microtitre plates. This technique was
a starting point and need Ab raised against other innocent animals. Therefore there is an urgent need
for development of artificial and low cost recognition sites for progesterone detection.
Progesterone is known as a hormone of pregnancy . As in cyclic non pregnant animal, the
progesterone level in plasma and milk decreases during follicular phase, which usually commences 17
21 days post insemination in

Swot Analysis Essay
Robbins and Coulter define the SWOT analysis as, an analysis of the organization s strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (239). In this paper, I will use a personal approach to the
SWOT analysis to help understand the strengths and opportunities that I possess, along with the
weaknesses and threats that I face. By identifying these four factors in my life, I hope to use them to
my advantage as my career progresses. Realizing my own strengths and improving upon my own
weaknesses can help me move forward in my career with confidence. Overcoming threats that come
my way, and taking advantages of opportunities will help me to achieve my goals and become more
successful. My personal strengths include my ability to deal with ... Show more content on

Living with an open mind also helps me be more creative. It lets me look at the world around me with
fresh eyes, and it helps me gain confidence in myself and my own ideas. It is important to recognize
my own weaknesses in order to improve upon them and know where I stand with any competitors. My
main weaknesses are my communication skills and falling into the habit of procrastination.
Communication, particularly with a large group of people, is sometimes difficult for me. I find it hard
to speak up and be confident, and to network and find my place within the academic community.
Going forward, I am trying to improve my interview and public speaking skills in order to combat this
weakness. Another weakness that I have is that I become distracted easily, while at the same time I am
a perfectionist. This leads to a great deal of procrastination and issues with time management.
Although I am dedicated to my education, factors such as commitments to friends and family and
occasional lack of motivation keep me off track and lead to procrastination. Having weaknesses is
something that can be harmful when competing with others. However, having weaknesses is
inevitable, so it is important for me to identify and deal with them instead of avoiding them.
According to Robbins and Coulter, opportunities are positive trends in the external environment,
threats are negative trends (239). Throughout the past few years, I have faced threats that

The Future of Computer Science Essay
The Future of Computer Science
Computer Science, Software Engineering and Information Systems are international qualifications,
enabling people to work globally, and in a very broad variety of roles. There is steady growth in
demand for technically adept and flexible IT graduates. Declining student enrollment, while growth
continues in law, medicine, biology, economics, and business; the decline among women is
particularly alarming (Klawe and Shneiderman 27). Computer science is now a part of everyone s
daily life through the innovations and technologies it enables. From transforming health care to

As a government, it requires its ability and being able to express the reality completely for all people.
They should release the power from the previous level supervising authority and verify the lawful
financial information. Ideally, this suggestion can avoid the financial crisis based on the failure of
credit department. From research and development investors point of view, even though the U.S. fiscal
deficits year after year, but research funding has continued to increase (28). Nowadays, the financial
crisis has got more severed. Thinking of the investment banks have performed the significantly
technical positions in the financial history. Banks help raising money for the new company, and the
product that they buy is raising comprehension of investors interest in technology companies. Despite
of the global financial depression, high tech industries profits are still rising.
As we live in the 21st century, development of science and technology grow very quickly. As far as I
have known the field of computer application continuously expanding, and the rapid development of
science and technology. It has become necessary in various areas of the goods. Perhaps in the near
future, we carry the computers, cell phones and other digital products is not the way with the hands in
pocket. Lohr claims that computer science is young

The Ideal Trend In Aldous Huxley s Brave New World
Ideal happiness within a society varies greatly depending on the time period and trends that are found
influential at the time. During the time the novel, Brave New World, was published many of the
current trends include newly advanced scientific research that Aldous Huxley heavily used throughout
the novel; Huxley is a humanist horrified by the theories and accomplishments of extremists of his
own time, but in the novel by using contrasting points of view, he makes no explicit statement of his
own position ( Brad Congdon). By putting a vial twist on the current discoveries in his own time,
Huxley displayed the utopian civilization by tugging at fears, people did not realize they had at the
time; Yet his suggestion that it be used to instill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Brave New World creates a community that has no reason to ever doubt the purpose of any of the
caste or people in power, ...Each of these events are designed to evoke a sense of loyalty towards the
caste to which the citizen belongs and to the greater society (Huxley 33). By eliminating the curiosity
of each individual s purpose within their life, the people in power succeeded in creating their
uneventful Brave New World. The loyal community is built by the scientific production of the babies,
as the babies have no parents, so all they have is each other. This also comes with the nurses drilling in
their heads who they should and should not like : ... and the Delta Children wear khaki. Oh, no, I don t
want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They re too stupid to be able to read or
write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly colour. I m so glad I m a Beta (Huxley 27). By
forcing all caste to think they are better than the other, they remove jealousy and enforce a strong,
loyal bond to be a part of each caste. However, the Director did not only build loyalty within the caste,
but loyalty to the government. This allows a functional community to be present within Brave New
World, creating the foundation for the society to prosper. The way the citizens within the society view
each other, also affects how

Mandatory Military Conscription
Our society is full of diverse individuals attempting to have their individual opinion heard rather than
support the common good. Our young adults are being directed to pay for college to obtain a degree
that does not promote positive characteristics such teamwork. Many of our young adults lack integrity,
discipline and reliability. A mandatory military conscription for high school graduates in the United
States of America will develop positive, selfless characteristics of our young adults in order to
promote the overall wealth and prosperity of our great nation. College is expensive. Many of these

care of the military member can focus on learning his or hers particular technical job and character
building. Many of these technical job skills that the member obtains are easily transferable to civilian
certifications. Along with certifications, many of the military schooling when documented properly in
the service member s transcript will translate it into college credits, thereby reducing the number of
credit hours needed to obtain a degree. High school graduates generally do not know what they want
to get a degree in or the type of job they wish to obtain. While serving, a military member will be

  • 2. Child Development Theories Child Development: An Examination of Three Theories There are a lot of theories regarding child development. Three of these theories are Bioecological Theory, Social Cognitive Theory and Information Processing Theory. This paper will discuss these theories by comparing and contrasting them. The first theory is the Bioecological Theory developed by Urie Bronfenbrenner. This theory is based on the nature vs. nurture idea. Bronfenbrenner believed development of a child was determined by the relationships among the environment or environmental systems around them. Within this environment there are five distinct systems which are related to a child s relationship with the school environment, family environment and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the inclusion of these three theories among others, into the mental health care field one can see the similarities of these theories. All three of these theories deal with the environment of a child, the learning process by which the child was exposed, the development of the cognitive ability of the child and by the social development of the child. All three theories believe the environment plays an important part in the cognitive development of children. They each believe it has an impact on how the child learns and develops. They all agree when there is a disruption of the process such as the child being subjected to mental or physical neglect or abuse the child can grow to be developmentally challenged or develop a mental illness as a result. What may be harder to determine is the differences in these three theories. The outcome of each would seem to be the same. Each theory is based on cognitive development and the relationship the environment has on that development. What we may need to look at is how these three theories seem to think this development is attained. With Brofenbrenner s theory of Bioecological development, he believed a child goes through five distinct systems and learns their cognitive ability within each system while being exposed to the environment which ... • 3. Big Bang it is important to understand what Big Bang Theory (BBT) is and is not. Contrary to the common perception, it is not a theory about the origin of the universe. Rather, it describes the development of the universe over time. This process is often called cosmic evolution . Over the last several decades the basic picture of cosmology given by BBT has been generally accepted by astronomers, physicists and the wider scientific community. However, no similar consensus has been reached on ideas about the ultimate origin of the universe. This remains an area of active research and some of idea current ideas are discussed below. That said, BBT is nevertheless about origins In addition to being a theory about the origins of the basic building ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both cases, the model implies that the universe is expanding into some larger, pre existing volume. In fact, the theory says nothing like that. Instead, the expansion of the universe is completely self contained. People often have difficulty with the idea that space itself expands . An easier way to understand this concept is to think of it as the distance between any two points in the universe increasing. First, the distance between A and B is a function of time and second, the distance is always increasing. To really understand what this means and how one would define distance in such a model, it is necessary to have some idea of what Einstein s theory of General Relativity (GR) is about: Space tells matter how to move, matter tells space how to curve. Another way of describing GR would be something like: Energy determines the geometry and changes in the geometry of the universe, and, in turn, the geometry determines the movement of energy . So, given this, how does one get BBT from GR? The basic equations come directly from Einstein s GR equation under two key assumptions: First, that the distribution of matter and energy in the universe is homogeneous and, second, that the distribution is isotropic. A simpler way to put this is that the universe looks the same everywhere and in every direction = cosmological principle. If we adopt these simple assumptions, the implications for the geometry of the universe are quite profound. First, one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Lucretius Summary Sparknotes DOCUMENT ANALYSIS: THINK OF BETTER TITLE Molly Pearson HIST 121 Intellectual Origins of the Contemporary West October 4, 2017 DOCUMENT ANALYSIS LUCRETIUS: EPICUREAN PHILOSPHY AT ROME Within Lucretius dialectic and poetic writings in Robert Latham s translation of Lucretius: On the Nature of the Universe, three major topics are discussed: philosophy, religion, and science. Lucretius was devoted to the works of his teacher and renowned philosopher Epicurus, praising him as a prophetic or god like figure. His poetic prose uses a host of concrete examples to show validity in his beliefs. Lucretius effectively supports the Epicurean worldview that everything can be explained by material forces. Memmius is the addressee of the poem, and Lucretius enlightens him to the nature of happiness, how religion is based on superstition, and the idea of atoms composing earthly matter. Evaluating reality gives mankind the natural answers to life s questions without concerning themselves with gods, prophets, or beliefs, and this was Lucretius main task in his work. Lucretius was a Roman poet who believed that the Epicurean systems provided the most important and valuable way of thinking. He pledged all of his poetic and persuasive writing skills towards presenting Epicurus teachings in a concise expose. A key Epicurean doctrine which he explores is the concept of the Nature of Happiness. Philosophy, in this mindset, is a refuge from the trials and tribulations of the ... The reason for this is it was the only poem that really made me empathize and feel emotions for the characters. It jumps right in with a quote from the landlord s lawyer. He says Mrs. Lopez refuses to pay rent and so she has to leave. Mrs. Lopez is the tenet and only speaks spanish, so the judge ask for an interpreter. But, all the interpreters are working elsewhere. A volunteer interpreter stands and Mrs. Lopez shows the interpreter pictures of her apartment/house. The conditions in this apartment/ house are horrible. It has rats, no doorknob and the water in the toilet is frozen. Mrs. Lopez tells the interpreter that she knows the law, will not pay because of the horrible conditions and wants to speak. Secondly, on line #12, it says Mrs. Lopez help up a poker hand of snapshots. This very clearly describes exactly how she held up her photos, and also tells us she has quite a few photos. Line # 24, Martin Espada writes, the courtroom clattered with the end of business. The reader suddenly knows and can picture in there head exactly what happens. Entertainment During The Great Depression Essay The average person working in the movie business in the 1930s made about $92,500 as someone working a moderate job only made about $890 a year, equally (COH) about $12,500 today. Throughout the Great Depression entertainment was an escape for people in America, which still continues to be used today. During the Great Depression entertainment such as movies, music/radio, and dancing provided people with and escape from the harsh realities of what was going on around them. As for movies, while (SUB) people in the 1930s were struggling because of their loss of jobs. Hollywood had entered what was called the golden age ( Popular 2), the Hollywood golden age lasted from 1930 1950, and consisted of people and new movies flourishing due to people s lack of work and extra free time, popular examples of movies include: Snow White and the Seven dwarfs, The Wizard of Oz , King Kong, Frankenstein , and Dracula. New people, specifically child star Shirley Temple ( The 1930s 1) played a key role by influencing the younger population. Even though movies were popular, they had to appeal to a mass audience in order to stay running ( The 1930s 1), in that sense cartoons and family friendly movies we re most popular. • 7. Renewable Energy And Natural Gas Finally, the last form of power generation to be examined before the moral analysis is renewable energy, for example wind and solar power. Renewable energy is the least established method of generating electricity and is therefore still heavily tied up in research. By definition, renewable energy sources have a theoretically limitless amount of energy production since they do not deplete any resources through their use. This means that for as many years as humans inhabit the earth they can use renewable energies, such as solar, wind, hydro power or others, which has much more potential than the 100 years for coal and natural gas. Renewable energy also has fewer negative environmental impacts since it does not directly release any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One utilitarian approach used to determine which act is most ethical, is cost benefit analysis. This analysis compares the potential benefits against the costs (financial, physical risks etc.) of possible decisions. For choosing which energy source the public should invest money in and engineers should invest research in, the criterion detailed above are compared. For cost benefit analysis, shown in Table 1, the effect on future generations is incorporated at the same value as the effect on current generations. For the cost criterion, renewable energy is currently the least beneficial in regards to price to the public, cost of updating current technologies, researching new technologies, and implementing new infrastructure. Natural gas has lower costs related to infrastructure and technology changes than renewable energy, but when compared to coal, it has higher public cost as well as higher implementation costs. Consequently, for the greatest amount of happiness for people, which is related to lower costs, coal is the best energy source. Furthermore, natural gas has a much higher efficiency than renewables and coal, which have similar efficiencies. Human fulfilment, coming from happiness in the utilitarian theory, relates to the best/most effective use of resources, i.e. people do not like to waste time or money. • 8. Pros And Cons Of Free Trade Essay Pros and Cons of Free Trade I. Introduction Free trade, the ever present driving force behind our national and world economy, is a trade policy embroiled in controversy. It is considered by most economists to be an almost perfect trade policy, barring a few negative effects. Free trade has been shown to increase production, output and income levels in an economy. However, there are many people that view free trade as destroyer of economies and a catalyst of poverty. Critics of free trade have pointed out that in the short run, free trade causes a loss of jobs which in turn causes a rise in poverty levels. It is interesting to note that the argument for free trade and the argument against free trade are inverses of each other. Proponents of free trade see it as a tool to stimulate an economy while detractors see it as a policy which exacerbates poverty, causes dependency and reduces economic stability. In general, there is no consensus on free trade. Economists see free trade as the devil that we know. While imperfect, it is the best we have to work with. Popular opinion sees free trade as a cause of inequality. Even though it alleviates poverty and causes economic stimulation in the long run, it can cause the exact opposite in the short run. The pros and the cons of free trade must then be weighed, which will then allow us to determine if free trade is truly a beneficial trade policy. Therefore, this discussion will weigh the benefits and harms of free trade and will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Automatist Utopian Themes In Acharnians and Birds During the 5th century BCE, Old Comedy was the most prevalent comedic form in Ancient Greece. This was largely due to the success of Athenian playwright, Aristophanes. His plays were frenetic, visual and personal, often containing historical figures. In particular, Aristophanes comedies contained automatist utopian themes that were used to satirize various aspects of 5th century Greece, often in Athens. The present essay will first define utopia and the automatist subtype. Then it will explore Aristophanes usage of automatist utopian themes in his plays Acharnians and Peace. Specifically, this paper will argue that Aristophanes used themes associated with automatist utopia to satirize war, the excess of the aristocracy, and the ignorance of the lower classes in 5th century Greece. Before analyzing specific passages from Aristophanic comedy, it is essential to understand the definition of utopia. The word, utopia was invented by author Thomas More in his 1516 book of the same name. More derived the word from the Greek, ou topos and eu topos [which together make]...a place which does not exist, that is not here, but which is also good (Ruffell 474). This definition is interesting given that many of Aristophanes plays take place in 5th century Athens. It suggests that Aristophanes was creating an Athenian world that was better but not based in reality. This essay will focus predominantly on Aristophanes usage of automatist utopian tropes. • 11. Art Institute Of Californi Hollywood Visual Language and Culture Final Project: Research Essay Leonard Hermoso Art Institute of California: Hollywood Abstract Since its early days, the media have always had a hand at molding who we are as a society. It is an extension of our culture and who we are. It has been a conduit of knowledge and information from person to person. A consistent attribute of media is the desire of the elites to control it and a resistance from people that want more freedom from such influences. Today, it is all around us, affecting most, if not all, of our daily lives. It influences how kids grow up in our society. It creates ideals that we want so much to achieve; labels us in order to promote the consumer culture. Being filled with media all the time, it can affect our society in a way that most people would think are negative. It can be a source of unrealistic expectations, a distorted look on reality, a distorted image of beauty and a reason health to deteriorate, be it physically or mentally. The media is a blessing for us, but one must be careful with it for it will always be accompanied with things that can have a negative effect on us. The media has become a part of us, a part of something that shapes who we are, our desires, and what we expect to have in life. • 14. Compare And Contrast Monty Python And The Holy Grail Chivalry and courtly love are two Arthurian sentiments displayed in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Le Morte d Arthur, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Monty Python and the Holy Grail differs from Le Morte d Arthur and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight because the film satirizes chivalry and courtly love while the other works are upholding it as orthodox. Courtly love from the Middle Ages consisted of knights chasing a fair maiden while always being respectful and courteous to her. Chivalry is a code of conduct that King Arthur s conventional knights uphold, which includes remaining honorable and ready to help the weak. This chivalrous act is derided in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when King Arthur confronts the Black Knight blocking the path to the bridge. King Arthur insists on crossing the bridge instead of going around, forcing a confrontation between the Arthur and the Black Knight. Arthur shows no mercy in the battle and cuts the Black Knight s limbs off, one by one. This demonstrates satire because as the Black Knights limbs are being cut off, King Arthur continues to slice at him, displaying an exaggeration of showing no mercy. The Black Knight persists against Arthur, also mocking how one must never recoil before the enemy, even if one s limbs are removed. In Le Morte d Arthur, King Arthur is merciless against Modred, his bastard son whom attempts to take over King Arthur s kingdom, and pierces Modred with a spear. This instance is an example of chivalry because King Arthur does not hesitate to kill his own son nor does he display clemency. Modred as a response does not recoil, which is also is in the code of conduct of chivalry. When a knight faces the enemy, he should never flinch or shy away because of fear. This aspect of chivalry is parodied in Monty Python and the Holy Grail when King Arthur and his knights brawled with the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog. The Killer Rabbit is an unearthly creature because it leaps incredible lengths and wrenches a knight s head off with one bite. This scene is executed to make the confrontation appear ridiculous to the audience by the otherworldly rabbit decapitating one of King Arthur s praised knights, proving them to be inept in battle. This has to be one of the biggest misconceptions of starting a company. I think to many people focus on one idea to start a company. The idea they must realize is to be a successful lasting corporation they must have a foundation before anything else. A very important part of building a visionary company comes with a core ideology. At the same time though core ideology must be subject to change with evolution. A company that can handle these two majors facets is a company that will develop an employee base and stimulate the progress for growth for years to come. All the visionary companies in this book showed exceptional knowledge for core ideology and the need to modify the core itself. Some of the best core ideologies mentioned in the book are broad but so direct that they seem almost common sense. For instance Merck s We are in the business of preserving and improving human life, sounds quite broad but yet describes quite well what Merck is about and has the ability to change for times of evolution. Merck s ideology is not only a business statement but its what their employees work for. It gives them a sense of pride that their company cares about what their products do other then how many products they sell. This type of ideology is one that all companies ... The other major auto makers in Germany all have supervisory boards as well but they are in place primarily to govern the executives and look out for the interests of the shareholders. This being said the two politicians are looking out for the best interest of the local workers and executives, so between them and the eight local people elected to the supervisory board it gives them an overwhelming majority in votes that may have a negative impact on the production of vehicles there. The setting of the story immensely helps to create this atmosphere. Poe s descriptive setting aids in creating the atmosphere of the story by developing mood, evoking feelings from the reader, and creating a false sense of security. The setting of The Masque, which Poe effectively and thoroughly illustrates, helps to create a desired atmosphere by developing the mood of the story. Each room has two large windows that correspond in color to their respective rooms, excluding the black apartment in which the windows are stained a blood red color. The last room causes the reader to have rather dreary, dismal feelings of the room, feelings of uneasiness and death. This is in direct contrast with all of the other rooms, as they tend to leave the impression of gaiety and bliss with the reader. The sharp differentiation and vivid description of the last room as compared to all the others gives the reader the feeling that this room is to be of importance later in the story and thereby helps create the atmosphere for the story. In The Masque, Poe also conveys a false sense of security with his first description of the abbey. He calls it an extensive and magnificent structure which has a strong and lofty wall...[with] gates of iron encircling it. After the courtiers have entered the abbey, the gates are welded shut, which the prince believes is enough to keep the disease of the Red Death out. Poe even goes as far as to state that with such precautions the courtiers might bid defiance to contagion. The Subordinate Status Of Women The subordinate status of women in America began with the premise of English common law within Colonial America; these English social constructs within Colonial America were adopted into the American legal status, thus playing a vital role in intimate partner violence against women in America due to the implementation of the English doctrine that husbands are legally able to physically discipline their wives and children if deemed necessary (Garcia, 2010; Gelles, 1997). Among the many constructs of the English law, the separate women s sphere ideology, which designated a woman s place within her family as a private sphere (i.e. home and family), while a man protected and provided for her through the public sphere (i.e. work and politics) (Garcia, 2010). The recent increasing incidence of diseases, such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), tuberculosis, brucellosis, mastitis, and foot and mouth, has raised concern in the livestock industry and in society. Infectious diseases of livestock have major implications not only in animal welfare and production efficiency but also in human health, and food safety and quality. Most biosensor developments have been in the biomedical field, where many in vivo applications demand small sizes. But it is lacking adversely in the field of milking animals and other livestock. The primary considerations of biosensors were the physical sensor design, fluid transport, optical sensor configuration, fluid mixing, sampling of the raw milk, and automation. The ideal biosensor would be a probe, similar to that found in a pH meter. Although I am dedicated to my education, factors such as commitments to friends and family and occasional lack of motivation keep me off track and lead to procrastination. Having weaknesses is something that can be harmful when competing with others. However, having weaknesses is inevitable, so it is important for me to identify and deal with them instead of avoiding them. According to Robbins and Coulter, opportunities are positive trends in the external environment, threats are negative trends (239). Throughout the past few years, I have faced threats that ... This also comes with the nurses drilling in their heads who they should and should not like : ... and the Delta Children wear khaki. Oh, no, I don t want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They re too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly colour. I m so glad I m a Beta (Huxley 27).
