Creating a Continuous Improvement Culture
Successful Lean Six Sigma (LSS) deployments rely on the ability of a deployment to effectively
apply Six Sigma DMAIC methodologies with the ability to concurrently apply Lean tools in order
to drive Continuous Improvement into the culture of the business. Designing a Lean Six Sigma
deployment to be an integrated model ties together the Six Sigma well structured approach with the
Lean approach of matching quantity and quality to satisfy customers. Various companies have begun

Volvo, Motorola, Ericsson, and Siemens have come to understand how dispersing authority of
decision making out to the field organization drives job satisfaction. (Schon, 2010, 99 118) Job
satisfaction drives productivity and process improvement. Process improvement cuts out waste.
Cutting out waste improves the bottom line. There is still a clear disconnect with the goals and
styles of the operations executive team in many organizations today. LSS deployments are bound to
struggle without support from all levels of management. A deployment champion has a duty to
make sure that projects align with high level goals in order to gain support from management.

Driving Empowerment
Dedicate and empower the right people on the right projects. (Salah, et al., 2010, 254) Business
leaders need to take the holistic approach to improving the business in order to achieve long term
gain. (Breyfogle, 2010, 94) The holistic approach as opposed to the driven down approach to LSS
implementation assumes that an organization has the right people in the organization that can drive
the organization to greatness. The driven down approach is very management heavy and decision
are not made at the line level. Rather, decisions are dictated to the line level and

Alien Registration Act
Racism had been escalating in the United States since the 19th century. Anxiety between migrant
workers and the white workers had been excessive for years as many bosses forced them to
compete for jobs and land. By 1924, the U.S. government prohibited nearly all immigration from
Japan. Numerous states banned nuptials between white people and people of Asian ancestry. The
United Statesbecame full of fear and hatred after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in December
1941. Anxiety of more attacks by the Japanese on their cities, homes, and businesses was
especially present along the Pacific coast of the United States. However, this event did not give the
government or the whites the right to discriminate and violate the rights of loyal hard working
Japanese Americans. Prior to World War II, there were quite a bit of Japanese descendants living
along the west coast. The Japanese traveled to America hoping to better themselves like starting
new jobs and perhaps get a good education. Some immigrants... Show more content on

signed the Executive order 9066 on February 19, 1942. The Executive order resulted in the forceful
internment of about 110,000 individuals of Japanese descent. When the government gave the
internment order, they rounded up and imprisoned the Japanese. In 1942, 110,000 Japanese
Americans living on the West Coast of the United States were moved to ten internment camps. In
excess of two thirds of the Japanese American who were forced into internment camps, had never
shown any form of betrayal and most were citizens of the United States. The Japanese were
mandated to abandon their homes and also leave their jobs. In some cases families were torn apart,

Transportation And Warehouse Management Essay
Transportation and Warehouse Management
SUMMARY
The report is on how transportation and warehouse management plays a vital role in the supply
chain, different modes of transports that involve in the freight movement from one location to
another. The amount of time to deliver a product to customers will show the effect on company s
future, so the company has to follow some steps to have a better mode of transportation for less
cost and delivery time. The primary objective of this project is to show how the transportation and
warehouse management systems are used to overcome the problems that are faced in transportation
and storage quickly and some of the key elements in WMS and TMS.
Transportation management:
Globalization has increased the importance and role of transportation in supply chain management.
Transportation plays a vital role in increasing the Gross Domestic product. It involves the
movement of the manufactured product from one location to the another location or the customer
safely. Transportation plays a vital role in the supply chain because the probability of using the
produced product on the same site is almost negligible. Now, transportation is one of the primary
factors which can affect the economy of the company when it is not efficient, safe and reliable.
Delivering the products on time directly to the customers has been increasing significantly in these
recent years which can be accomplished only with transportation management, resulting

Pacem In Terris
Pacem in Terris was read and accepted by readers outside the Catholic Church in a way that no
other encyclical had been. One reason for this was undoubtedly the charisma of John XXIII
himself, who addressed his encyclical not only to bishops, clergy and the faithful, but also to men
of good will. Another was living with the constant threat of the Cold War thinking about where and
when it would next lead.
This document was born in the mind of John XXIII in the fall of 1962 which was during the
Cuban missile crises when he was serving as the back channel between President John F.
Kennedy and the soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev who were urging to end the cold world war.
The main reason of this document was because for Pope, the missile crisis was a very prophetic
moment. This was like a message for peace to the superpowers who were locked in the world
threatening contest.
The documents talks about the rights and duties for the people which includes the right to live,
which includes the proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Pope condemned authority from both the political right as well as the political left. The main
motive if Pope to do this was to make the people realize that they were responsible for changing
their societies and reducing the threat of war. Pope was mainly into promoting human rights which
was very much visible into the choice of subtopics which were included in the encyclical.
However, perhaps the most important reason why it was so readily accepted was the power of the
document itself. In 1965, Robert Hutchens, head of the Centre for Democratic Institutions in the
United States described Pacem in Terris as one of the most profound and significant documents of

which this clinic might segment the female market.
The womens health clinic has a variety of ways in which they can segment its market. One base is
sociodemographic segmentation. The women s health clinic might ascertain a specific
communication strategy geared to the needs of its patient s age group. The clinic can base their
services on gender; which in this clinic it would be women and they could offer pap smears, and

through social class. The clinic can post advertisements (billboards, commercials, flyers, and

services. A third major way the women s health clinic can segment its market is by usage

Uc Berkeley Research Paper
UC Berkeley: Origin of Free Speech, Topic of Extremes
Here we go again; yet again do we, as Americans, get to see another protest go violent, but what is
it about this time? Following up with recent news, Milo Yiannopolis, a highly controversial right
wing speaker and Breitbart columnist, was forced to evacuate UC Berkeley after a protest broke
into violence as many left protesters began destroying nearby areas and attacking innocent
people. Naturally, with such a controversial person coming to UC Berkeley and such a violent
occurring as a result, many opinions came out to the surface including two extreme articles that
we will focus on: a left wing article from Daily Cal by Luis Tenorio and Miranda Smith and a right
wing article from Fox News by Todd Starnes.
Throughout the article by Tenorio and Smith, the violence of the event is written off and excused
as a defense, saying that it crossed the line of tolerance as they claim that [tolerance] ends where
harm begins and that it is an event about safety and equitable ... Show more content on

is a major issue of free speech and academic freedom as this event presents itself as an attack on the
First Amendment and academic freedom. By shutting down the event with violence, it is forcefully
cutting off and blocking the differing opinion and ultimately isolating students, including those of

Transforming Species Into Molecular Biology
Transforming Species into Molecular Biology Between 1850 and 1950, the definition of what
science was and what it could become radically changed through means of breakthrough theories,
ideas and experimentations from scientists exploring the realms outside of the traditional religious
views. The method of how science was conducted drastically altered as well. The development of
new technologies allowed scientists to step away from simple observation, towards more
sophisticated and complex research. Through those influential hundred years, one question
remained, what is life? And how do we appropriately characterize it? Because of this, three of
sciences revolutionary icons approached their respective inquiries in different manners. All three
men used outside correspondences with their peers to help them develop their own assumptions and
eventually revolutionizing the concept of science. Watson and Crick s work, along with Darwin s
represent some of the greatest alterations of scientific thought and development of current common
beliefs. In this disquisition, I will provide a brief biography of these men as well as their respective
influences and the types of methods they used to create their deep seated ideas. For example,
Darwin found inspiration from previous scientists such as Linnaeus, Buffon, Malthus, Cuvier, and
Lyell. men. These helped shape how Darwin thoughtfully and deeply observed the environment.
Watson and Crick also compounded data from vying peers, such

One Nation Under God Analysis
Every single presidential election seems to entertain the American population even more than the
last. Rather it be from the interesting personalities of the different individuals or the historic
statements made from certain characters. When election season rolls around, Americans are glued
to their television curious to see what or who makes the next bold move. Iowa native Mark Noll
explains to his readers the details of the 1800 election between Thomas Jeffersonand John Adamsin
his book, One Nation Under God. Are there similarities or differences from the election of 1800
and now? Have we learned from past mistakes as Christians and human beings? I believe
Evangelical Christians are continuing to commit these errors even as time ticks on.... Show more

Many of the problems Evangelical Christians struggled with then, they are still battling on to this
day. Interestingly enough, when Jefferson won the election of 1800 and put his policies into
effect, the Evangelicals at that time were rather shocked. Jefferson s policies aligned more
closely to biblical teachings then the Evangelical favorite at this time, John Adams. It is
compelling to think that the man that they presumed would bring destruction, not only to their
country, but their church as well, turned out to be more biblically aligned in the long run. As
clichГ© as it is, it brings us back to the saying, don t judge a book by its cover. In today s election
as well as the election of 1800, it doesn t matter which party is chosen or which candidate ends
up taking the presidency because a mixture of good and evil is found in both parties. In our
minds we may think we are voting for the perfect choice, that our option is flawless and the only
right answer for society. However, this is far from reality. Both parties lie, both parties make
promises they can t keep and they all claim to be the savior of our country. The fact of the matter
is, regardless of how perfect we think our candidate choice is, they, along with their counterpart,
struggle with all of these claims. They struggle now and they struggled back in the 1800 s. There is

In the world today, not a single of us can truly say that we don t at lest come in contact with
plastic. They are everywhere, in our cars, carpets, food, and virtually every other product we
consume; it has becomes a globalization needs that we can t run away from. As according to the
National oceanic and atmospheric administration (NOAA) state the approximately 1.4 billion
pounds of trash enters the ocean per year. Most of it get washed up on the beaches by waves and

But the sieve like skimmers they use, no matter how technologically sophisticated, will never be
able to clean up remote garbage gyres: There s too much turbulent ocean dispersing and mixing up
the mess. The problem is compounded by the aquaculture industry, which uses enormous amounts of
plastic in its floats, nets, lines and tubes. The most common floats and tubes found in the deep
ocean and on Hawaiian beaches come from huge sea urchin and oyster farms like the one that
created the oyster buoy island. Those buoys were torn from their moorings by the tsunami that
walloped Japan on March 11, 2011. But no regulatory remedies exist to deal with tons of plastic
equipment lost accidentally and in storms. Government and industry organizations purporting to
certify sustainably farmed seafood, despite their dozens of pages of standards, fail to mention gear
that is lost and floats away. Governments, which are rightly concerned with depletion of marine
food sources, should ensure that plastic from cages, buoys and other equipment used for
aquaculture does not escape into the waters. But, in the end, the real challenge is to combat an
economic model that thrives on wasteful products and packaging, and leaves the associated
problem of clean up costs. Changing the way we produce and consume plastics is a challenge
greater than reining in our production of carbon

Karl s Views On Social Science
Karl Popper became a popular philosopher in the twentieth century, known for his emphasis on
empirical falsification while studying the social sciences. He rejected previously popular views
from the prewar era, namely Historicism, which focuses on only historical evidence in the
observation of political and social events. In his book, Popper Selections, Popper vehemently
opposes ideas such as historicism, collectivism, utopian principles, and the Marxian ideology.
Popper s emphasis on empirical falsification provides us the basis as to why he believes
democracy proves to be essential to a state. His emphasis on individualism, piece meal social
engineering, interventionism and sovereignty highlight Popper s direct opposition to Marx, which...

He asserts, there cannot, of course, be any rational discussion in a school of this kind (Popper
1985). Popper then places emphasis on the importance on the rise of tradition, meaning a tradition
in places of learning that encourages critical discussion and new ideas, perhaps even rewards them.
Not only does Popper maintain that this rise of criticism is important, he also states that those
being criticized should be tolerant of dissenting view points and seek to understand the opposition
rather than rejecting it. Furthermore, Popper states, the rationalist tradition, the tradition of critical
discussion, represents the only practicable way of expanding our knowledge (Popper 1985).
These ideas of critical discussion and critical rationalism essentially serve as the thesis to Popper s
theory. Popper s reliance on the testability, falsifiability, scientific methodology and accumulating
data and theories serve as the main components of Popperism. The Popperian ideology seems to be
directly in opposition to historicism. Popper defines historicism as an approach to the social sciences
which assumes that historical prediction is their principal aim, and which that assumes that this aim
is attainable by discovering the rhythms or the patterns, the laws or the trends that underlie the
evolution of history (Popper

Contradiction In The Film Taxi Driver
He s a prophet... he s a prophet and a pusher, partly truth, partly fiction. A walking contradiction.
(Taxi Driver) We are all encapsulated in our own self concept. It can make it impossible for us to
understand how our actions are doing more damage than good. As human beings, if we cannot
find the source of our turmoil we are doomed for our anguish to be projected externally as strokes
of violence. In the film Taxi Driver, Travis is not doing enough to fix his problems. He is constantly
putting himself into situations that confirm his negative view on the world, trying to find purpose
in relationships that he sabotages and tries to find purpose through death.
Taxi Driver is a 1976 film directed by Martin Scorcese and written by Paul Schrader. It won the
Palme d Or at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival. (Wikipedia) Travis Bickle is a 26 year old
honorably discharged Marine, dealing with inter city solitude in 1970s New York. He takes up
a taxi job to cope with his insomnia, driving passengers all over the city. He spends his spare
time at porn theatres and writing in his diary. Travis becomes infatuated with Betsy, a campaign
volunteer for candidate Charles Palatine. Their relationship turns sour when he takes Betsy to a
porn movie. He tries to persuade a child prostitute, Iris, to desert her lifestyle but fails. As Travis
grows increasingly more paranoid of his situations, he begins to see these relationships he develops

As illustrated in the graph below, this marked the first time since 1994 that revenues have
declined. Regardless of this year s decline, Nike Inc. achieved 300% revenue growth over a 10
year period, rising from 1990 sales of $2.235 billion. Exhibit 1 * Obtained from Nike, Inc. 1999
Annual Report Although revenues declined in 1999, net income increased by 13% over the
prior year. As the graph below illustrates, net income has been volatile in the latter half of the 90
s. Sharp decreases in 1998 and 1999 net income were due to restructuring charges. If these
charges had not been incurred, income would have been flat for both years. Efficiency in cost
control and inventory management has allowed net income to increase while revenues decreased
in 1999. Note that the largest growth rate was 43% in 1997 over the prior year with net income of

challenge in 2000 will be to maintain the operational and financial initiatives we worked so hard to
implement in 1998 and 1999. We must maintain our inventory levels low enough that will allow us

To His Coy Mistress is a passionate plea by a young man to his mistress to go to bed with him.
He uses flattery ( an hundred years should go to praise / thine eyes ), fear ( thy beauty shall no
more be found ) and enthusiasm ( Let us roll all our strength, and all / Our sweetness, up into one
ball ) to persuade her to give up her virginity. He is only concerned with moving his relationship on
to the sexual stage and, apart from the pleasure this will bring, he has no thought of its
consequences.
The woman in The Beggar Woman at first seems anything but reluctant to have sex with the
gentleman she meets, but in fact she has a different agenda. She has a baby strapped to her back
and by exploiting the gentleman s lust ( I should be loth / to come so far and disoblige you both )
she is able to transfer it to him. She then leaves him with the child as a lesson in the consequences
of casual sex.
I trust the child to you with all my heart But, ere you get another, ten t amiss To try a year or two

they are too short they will not absorb concussion well.

The Caine Mutiny
The 1954 film The Caine Mutiny tells the story of an seemingly attempted mutiny aboard the USS
Caine. Based on the book by the same name, The Caine Mutiny focuses on the tension between a
newly appointed commander and the crew of the ship. Prior to the new commander s arrival, the
crew on the ship do not always follow the strict rules of the Navy, and the new commander begins
to enforce them. As the movie progresses, it seems as though the new commander is the antagonist;
he is very harsh with the crew and is frequently punishing them. In addition, one of the crew
members, Lieutenant Keefer, persuades the other members that the new commander is mentally
unfit, leading to a perceived mutiny. However, it is revealed that Keefer is behind the removal of
the commander due to his hatred of the Navy. The Caine Mutinytells the story of a clash between
the commander and the crews members of the USS Caine and the theme of how perceptions can be
distorted is still relevant today.
The movie The Caine Mutiny follows an Ensign in the United States Navy named Willie Keith.

East Of Eden Directed By Elia Kazan
The 1955 dramatic film, East of Eden, directed by Elia Kazan, is a movie adaptation of the popular
book written in 1952. Throughout this drama, moviegoers embark on a journey through various
thematic topics such as the idea of good vs evil, the importance of repentance and redemption, and
the human ideal of free will. For example, multiple characters in the filmare split into two
categories: those who are naturally good and those who are naturally evil. With this idea,
characters either act how they are born or act on their free will to be who they want to be.The
film employs a wide cast of talented actors who bring all their characters and roles to life. The main
character, Cal Trask, however is played by probably the most famous actorof the bunch, James
Dean, who plays it awesomely. Cal s character is supposed to be of someone who is always
internally troubling and confused and James easily shows this in this role. Richard Davalos,
plays the character of Aron, Cal s brother, with absolute beauty as well. Aron, in the book, is
supposed to represent what is good and innocent and Richard shows this characteristic evidently
in his acting style. The father of Cal and Aron, Adam, is then played by Raymond Massey who is
able to tie the story together very well. Raymond s acting in being constantly angry and
disappointed in Cal is what allows James to bring out the light in Cal since Adam has a huge effect
on Cal s character in the story. Another major character is

How Did Tom Robinson Change In To Kill A Mockingbird
Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird is set in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s. Racism is ever
present toward blacks and the trial of Tom Robinson, an African American, clearly displays this.
Tom Robinson was accused of raping a white woman. The huge detail in this is that it was a
white woman. Racial issues are really brought about because of that detail. People during this
time would easily take a white man s word over that of a black man, so nobody would ever trust
Tom Robinson, especially since he was a black man being accused of a crime against a white
woman. Tom Robinson really can t do anything to help his case. The only person that can help
him is Atticus. While Atticus does not believe that he will win the case, he knows that it is right
to do everything he can to help Tom. He knows right from wrong and he will do everything in his
power to help people see that, and to help Tom survive this case. Tom Robinson could also be

It can happen quickly, in a matter of minutes. It can also take its time and happen over a period
of several years. In the case of racism, it took peaceful action to change the wrongs that were
being committed. It took 30 years for someone to see that acting violently was not going to help
the problem, but strengthen it. This person was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Nonviolent protests
finally were the answer to a problem that had gone on for such a long time. Between the 1930s
and the 1960s there were really no changes having to do with racism. Whites treated blacks so
lowly and that hadn t changed between the time when Harper Lee s story is set and the civil
rights movement. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was able to show people how they could get their

Let s Put an End to Parking Problems! Essay
Let s Put an End to Parking Problems!
I would like to see the parking and traffic crunch on and around this campus eased. Unless a
student arrives before 8 o clock in the morning or in the afternoon, cruising the parking lots or
streets for a place to park is routine. Even buying a parking sticker does not mean you will have the
privilege of a space. Competition for spaces during the rush hours of 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. is
cutthroat. Would be parkers stake out sections of a parking row and sit in their cars hoping
someone in their section will leave. The other ploy is to try and catch someone who is just
walking back to their car in order to plead for that space. lf these tricks fail, the only thing left is to

In other words, make it convenient for car poolers. In this same vein, buses or vans could be run to
outlying areas which have large numbers of Northridge students as residents. Charge a fee which
would be less than the student is now paying in parking fees and gas. If the buses or vans were
advertised in the paper to increase student interest and if they were run at convenient times, I am
sure many students would take advantage of the opportunity.
A somewhat different tack would be to encourage bicycle riding and/or walking. Many students
living close to campus still drive when they could be bicycling. Making the roads safer for
bikers is of major concern and unsafe conditions are the reasons given by many who do not ride.
Providing bicycle lanes on all streets around the campus would be extremely beneficial. This
would decrease contact with the faster moving traffic. Adding more bicycle stands on campus
which are secure would also encourage bike riding. Perhaps courses on bike riding safety could be
conducted on campus. Again, advertising of the new bike lanes and bike facilities would encourage
more people to ride. Also advertising the health benefits of riding or walking should increase the
number of students who will take advantage of this inexpensive means of transportation.
There are several reasons why this change is both

Hurt is a song that was written by Trent Reznor of the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails in

Grammy award nomination for best rock song in 1996 ( Hurt, Nine Inch Nails Song ). Reznor in
Cleveland, Ohio founded the Nine Inch Nailsin 1988. Reznor is the main producer, singer,
songwriter, and instrumentalist of the band as well as the only official member of the group ( Nine

Cash is considered to be one of the most influential and best selling artists of the 20th century.
Most of Cash s music contained themes of sadness, sorrow, and moral tribulations, which made
Reznor s Hurt a perfect cover for Cash ( Johnny Cash ). Hurt is the type song someone listens to

with nothing at the end of the day, feeling depressed and miserable, that is what Hurt is about. Hurt

Pros And Cons Of Being A Trucker
Being a trucker means spending days, weeks, and even months away from your friends and

middle of nowhere with nobody around for miles. When you re in a situation like that, the last thing
you want is to breakdown with no means of restarting your truck.
Having a decent set of tools stashed in your truck is a great way to protect yourself if you

New York Schools Struggle With New Rules Essay
The article, New York Schools Struggle With New Rules to Help Students Learning English, by
Elizabeth A. Harris from the New York Times, documents the current struggle of New York state
public school ESL programs to fully accommodate the immigrant students needs. Overall, the ESL
program is not effective in helping second language students catch up in subjects taught in English.
In addition, the supply and demand is heavily unbalanced. More immigrant students are enrolling
in public schools yet there is a lack of trained ESL teachers available even if the schoolwanted to
hire more or establish more ESL programs. Take Bengali, for example. It is the fourth most
common language among pupils learning English in the city s public schools. But there are only
three bilingual Bengali programs in the schools.
The article points out several main problems the administration is facing. The first is the obvious
low funding due to the insufficient attention given to ESL learning as part of the public school
education. Ms. DeJesus, of the teachers union, said...almost every city school needed to hire one or
two teachers, which would put the numbers required in the thousands. And the new rules came with
very little in the way of resources $1 million for the entire state, which has left schools scrambling.
In addition, there is a lack of qualified, well trained ESL teachers to hire even with enough funding.
However, lack of ESL teachers doesn t just happen overnight. Different

Polish Civilians During The World War II
At dawn on the morning of September 1st, 1939, German forces began their invasion and
subsequent occupation of Poland. Initially, the Nazi takeover did not appear to be quite as
dangerous or interruptive as many Poles expected it to be, particularly in urban locales such as
Warsaw. However, as the days went by, the German occupation became much more noticeable
within the daily lives of the Poles. Rations and other such restrictions were placed on the Polish
people, eliminating the remaining bits of pre occupation normalcy from their lives and forcing
any Pole who wanted to survive to circumvent the rules and regulations placed upon them by the
Germans. The greatest risk faced by Polish civilians was death, be it in a death camp or in the
cities and towns, where German forces managed to kill thousands of innocent, unlucky Poles.
Documenting these events were writers William L. Shirer, an American journalist, in his Berlin
Diary and Lucyna B. Radlo, a teenage girl from Poland, in her novel Between Two Evils. The
experiences of Polish civilians during the German occupation and the Poles transition from near
normalcy to near death within their daily lives model how a combination of hard work,
creativity, and a stroke of luck can be the key to survival. For the first few weeks of September in
1939, life for most Polish citizens didn t seem to be too out of the ordinary. Radlo, whose family
and friends were camped out in their Warsaw apartment, testifies to this, saying that

Rose Stein Analysis
Stein s poetics, especially her tender buttons works, is engrossed with many repetitions. Initially,
with prior knowledge, the power of repetition was understood. When imitating Steins, it
demonstrated the power of repetition. In tender buttons, however, Stein proses creative poems on
simple, domesticated objects such as food. With this repetition in her food pieces, it allows the
readers to hear the wordor phrase in different angles. By doing so, the reader then examines the
word or phrase in a way that was not originally thought of, shedding a new meaning to the word
or phrase. Not only, does the repetition allow for examining new meanings of the word, but also re
illuminating a word that has become a clichГ© which is evident in her poem rose . At first glance,
the poem seems to have no creativity and seems absurd. When reading the poem, however, it

How Optical Antennas Are An Emerging Concept Within...
1. Introduction
Optical antennas are an emerging concept in physical optics. Similar to radio wave and microwave
antennas, their purpose is to convert the energy of free propagating radiation to localized energy,
and vice versa. Optical antennas exploit the unique properties of metal nanostructures, which
behave as strongly coupled plasmas at optical frequencies.
Electromagnetic (EM) waves from low radiofrequencies (RF) to high optical frequencies pervade
our environment. They interact with matter by coupling directly to the motion of charge carriers.
This carrier motion can be associated with characteristic spectral resonances resulting from
absorption and emission of EM energy.
According to the IEEE Standard Definitions of Terms for Antennas, an antenna is defined as the
part of a transmitting or receiving system that is designed to radiate or to receive electromagnetic
waves [1]. Depending on the resonance properties, environment, and use, an antenna can be
designed in all sizes and shapes including linear dipoles, horns, dishes, apertures, and patches.
Despite the different form factors, all antennas operate under the same principle. They mediate the
transformation between propagating EM energy and localized or confined energy delivered to a
load or emitted from a source via coupling of the EM energy to electron motion. Although originally
conceived for radio waves, the antenna definition above notably does not constrain the frequency
range of operation. The same

Then, in the house, the lighting becomes noticeably dim, with only a little bit of sunshine
coming in from the outside. This lighting adds to the hazy quality of the scene and the overall
oneiric atmosphere Wilder was trying to achieve. Similar to how the hazy quality adds to the
oneiric atmosphere of the shots in the Dietrichson s household, the elements of the mise en

with a seemingly perfect upper class neighborhood full of California Spanish houses. The
children outside are playing baseball and an ice cream truck drives by, representing the epitome
of the American Dream. The image is sharp and clear, with the light source coming from the
right. However, the lighting is practically uniform in this shot. There are several hues and colors
present in this shot, which is consistent with the realm of reality. Each frame of the camera is
busy and cluttered, and there is a great deal of movement from both the props and the actors.
However, it can also be argued that the first shot though fairly realistic is interrupted by oneiric
qualities. The first shot is equitably realistic; however, German expressionism lingers in the design
of the set, adding oneiric qualities to the shot. One of the most pivotal of German Expressionist
cinema, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (dir. Robert Wiene, 1920) presents distorted environments. For

What Does Voltaire Criticize Candide
While Voltaire has so far criticized war directly through depiction of war he often does it in a more
subtle manner. Candide and Cacambo arrive at Paraguay to fight for the Jesuits but are instead
disarmed and told to wait for the Commandant. Them a sergeant tells them that neither the
Commandant or reverend Father Provincial would talk to a Spaniard or allow one to Stay above

When Candide and Cacambo arrive at El Dorado they see children playing with gold and jewels
and then assume that those kids are royalty since they have the gold. The children leave the
jewels and gold on the floor and return to their school. Afterwards, Candide and Cacambo try
returning what they think is valuable jewels and gold but when they presented it the
schoolmaster, smiling, flung them upon the ground (Voltaire 41) The stupidity for wealth in the
Old World is displayed because it shows that the only reason the gold and other jewels has any
real value is because people put intrinsic value into is when it is worthless. As it is displayed that
these precious gems and stones are no more than rocks to play with to the people of El Dorado it
shows the ideocracy of those in the Old World who often fight and kill over these rocks. War...
we owe to the fancy of two or three thousand persons scattered over the globe under the name of
princes and ministers (Voltaire against war 1) These princes and ministers are those who start
these wars which is mostly to obtain wealth and hence it shows how war is in essence pointless
since it is fought over the value of rocks which the princes and ministers say is worth. Also while
in El Dorado there is a very explicit criticism of war by the king of El Dorado. The kingdom we
now inhabit is the ancient country of the Incas, who quitted it very imprudently to conquer

Interpreting The Song Halo
CHOICE
The hit song Halo was performed by BeyoncГ© Knowles. Ryan Tedder (lead vocalist of
OneRepublic), Evan Bogart and BeyoncГ© composed it. Halo will always be one of my
favorite BeyoncГ© songs because she sings it with such a powerful voice that fits with the song
and the lyrics, also not to mention the deep meaning behind the song. The great storyline and
bold lyrics was a huge factor in choosing to analyze this song. I like to listen to BeyoncГ© songs
and some of my favorites are: 7/11, If I were a Boy, Flawless, Loveon Top and Lemonade. In my
opinion, BeyoncГ© is and always will be a music legend. MEANING
Halo is a song about a woman who had been hurt by a past relationship and built walls around
herself so she would never experience heartbreak again. ( Remember those walls I built? Well,
baby they re tumbling down ) But then she meets a guy who she calls her angel or saving grace

The song starts off with a choir singing and violins playing softly. One of the key factors in the
mood of the song is the background music. Throughout the song the singers keep echoing halo
with the instruments also playing and BeyoncГ© always finds a way to match her voice to the
rhythm and tone of the music. This also creates a loud sound. I wouldn t consider Halo as a sad
song, more so moderate and full of compassion. The instruments used are: violin, cello, piano,
keyboard and bass drums. The instruments used give off a warm sentimental tender feeling when
combined with BeyoncГ© s voice and the background

iron will, tremendous faith, respect, meekness and an unconditional devotion to God.
Carson displayed great determination and dedication from a young age. He thrived to be ahead

Throughout the auto biography Carson demonstrates an extraordinary amount of trust and faith in
the Lord. A pristine example of Carson s faith is portrayed before a major chemistry final.
Although Carson was unprepared, he laid the situation before God and was able to miraculously
score well in the exam. Carson lived a Christ oriented life and the blessings were endless. His
faithfulness demonstrated the power in living in such a way.
Carson was no ordinary man. His intricate way of thinking was like no other. One of the most
obvious and well known achievement is his concept of incorporating lasers in neurosurgery to
nullify complexities faced whilst operating. He knew there was an easier way and took the initiative
to act upon his ideas. Comparing Carson s accomplishments and initial circumstances serves as
living proof that anyone can be an influential figure in our society.
Carson s radiant demeanor shone throughout the course of his life. His pleasant behavior and
respect for others produced a very likable individual. Although there were countless incidents where
Carson could bad mouth white folk, he never resorted to racial prejudice and whole heartedly

A Cost Accounting System Analysis
A cost accounting system is a framework used by firms to estimate the cost of their products for
profitability analysis, inventory valuation and cost control. Its goal is to advise the management on
the most appropriate course of action based on the cost efficiency and capability. Cost accounting
provides the detailed costinformation that management needs to control current operations and
plan for the future.
Costing is essential for every organization, as every manufacturing and other department has to be
assigned accurate budget for proper operation (Hansen, Mowen and Guan, 2006). The costing
system provides information that is useful to managers for minimizing wastage and allocating
resources to different departments.
The traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most organizations in the business arena today are quite complex, large and have many
departments. It cannot be the basis of the costing system in these organizations as it can only be
efficient when there are low indirect costs compared to direct costs.
On the other hand, Activity based costing (ABC) attempts to accurately trace indirect costs to
products by allocating indirect costs to activities and then to products based on their usage of the
activities. In order to counter the flaws of the Traditional Costing System, most organizations have
adopted the ABC method. ABC is an effective way to allocate the indirect costs and it leads to
more accuracy because it relies upon a greater number of activity and resource cost drivers rather
than only focusing on volume based cost drivers. Also in contrast to the traditional costing system,
ABC is optimal when indirect costs are higher as it utilizes several indirect cost pools and divides
the production function into many activity areas. The activity based approach provides a precise
breakdown of indirect costs and eliminates the allocation of irrelevant costs to a product therefore
providing a more exact reflection of product and customer profitability. Thus, unlike traditional
costing, ABC gives equal importance to other factors such as business competition, accuracy,
customer satisfaction, product development etc. It s emphasis on product efficiency helps the
company establish a

A Meta-Analysis of the Impacts of Soy Milk, Skim Milk, and...
Five studies were found that coincide with the study selection criteria for on the effects of
fermented milk on cholesterol levels. Although some studies do not agree, a consensus can still be
reached. Five studies were found that agree consuming fermented milk products helps to lower
cholesterol levels. Of these studies Agerbaek et al., (1995) conducted a six week study on fifty
eight healthy, non obese males with normal cholesterollevels, all were age forty four. Participants
were randomly placed in either the fermented milk or placebo group; the placebo consisted of
milk cultured with non living bacteria and the fermented milk was fermented with E. faecium
and two strains of S. termophilus. Participants drank 200 ml per day of either fermented or
placebo milk. The diet of each individual was not altered at any time during the study. After six
weeks, total cholesterol was significantly reduced by 14.3 mg/dL while the placebo had no
significant change. LDL cholesterol levels had a 10% reduction, a 16.24 mg/dL decrease while
HDL cholesterol levels were unchanged. Agerbaek et al., (1995) determined that fermented milk
should significantly decrease total cholesterol and LDL levels in middle aged men.
A study by Anderson and Gilliland (1999) came to the conclusion that fermented milk lowered
total cholesterol levels by 2.4%, LDL by 2.6% and HDL by 3.9%. The study was conducted over a
three week period with twenty females and nine males all with hypercholesterolemia. All

1837 Rebellion Research Paper
The Impact of the Rebellions of 1837 38 By:Ishan Imagine a party taking place in a courtyard in
the early 19th century. Everyone s having fun, but after a while, the mood darkens as British
loyalist forces close in on the courtyard and start a full blown stone fight just because it was a
Canadian political party. This event actually happened right before the 1837 Rebellion! The British
loyalists attacked Canadian politicians with stones! After this fight, the Canadian politicians
decided to start planning an insurrection big enough to rock British political rule over both Lower
Canada and Upper Canada. The attack was later implemented on December 7, 1837. This battle was

This also happened after the Act of Union. There were three social classes in 19th century
Canada, the upper class, middle class, and lower class. The upper class were the wealthiest
citizens that owned many acres of land and a large estate. They would hire many people in the
lower class as slaves that would clean up the house and cook for them. Instead of working on
farms, men and women would work in or own businesses in the city. The middle class would
have acres of land too, but less than the upper class. The middle had one or two slaves and a
large house. They would also work in businesses down in the city. The lower class were just
above slaves. They owned acres of land, but significantly less than the middle and upper class.
They would have a farmhouse of decent size, and large families to make work on the farm
easier. Because of their poverty, they would only work on the farm. The lower class were also
expected to build a road in front of their homes. This ranking system was established by the
British. The British would charge high taxes, mainly affecting the lower class, who had a hard
time affording it. The middle and upper class would not care. The lower class eventually decided
to fight along with the angry politicians, known as the Rebels. After the Canadians were met with
defeat, the British noticed that the way the colonies were run was not good and had to be fixed to

Mother In Refugee Camp Poem Analysis
Remember by Christina Rossetti, Mother in Refugee Camp by Chinua Achebe and War
Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy all explore different perspectives of death and its inevitability. In
the poem Mother in Refugee Camp, Chinua Achebe exposes the reader to the realistic and horrific
conditions of a refugee camp, culminating in the lamentable death of the child. The language, the
use of metaphors and similes and structure call attention to the idea of cyclical death in a refugee
camp. The poem War Photographer explores the continual cycle of death in war zones. Duffy
examines the predicament the war photographer faces whether to intervene in the ongoing conflict
or to uncover the reality and destruction of conflict. However, Remember exhibits a... Show more

February Revolution Research Outline
I.Introduction
Rebellions and revolution are the mere foundation and past history of many countries and
organizations.
Whether it is the Russian Revolution, which consisted of the February Revolution, or the animals in
Animal Farm, the outcome of the uprisings include many bloody murders and deaths.
Revolts may be good for the future, but they have the potential to cause numerous civilian and
innocent casualties; they are better left to have the government or command power collapse on
their own.
II.Body Paragraph 1: Casualties of the February Revolution

The Battle of Cowshed was a good example and well represented the February Revolution, and the
October Revolution; also suited the characters accordingly.
Now, comrades...to the hayfield! Let us make it a point of honour to get in the harvest more
quickly than Jones and his men could do (Orwell 11)
Snowball is seen to be a leader and was key in the overthrowing of Mr. Jones.

Fear And The Forced Evacuation
Fear and the Forced Evacuation of the Japanese Americans How do explain something that is
completely in the wrong as ok? Why can people, organizations and even governments make
irrational decision over and over again? The United States prides itself on it s ability to be a free
country and support freedom of religion and freedom of speech but throughout history their are
numerous accounts of the United States going against it s own beliefs and treating it s people in
terrible ways. One example of the United States going against it s pride in equality and rhetoric of
democracy and acting in ways of exclusion and inequality is during World War II when the United
States forced evacuation of the Japanese to internment camps. The memoir, Looking... Show more

When they pulled the nearly 120,000 Japanese Americans the government was acting on fear.
The government was not only scared of a future attack but also the government feared the
difference in cultures. The Japanese lifestyle was significantly different than they popular
American lifestyle. The Japanese did speak a different language and did believe in a different
religion. They ate different foods and played different games. Many did strive to enjoy the ways
of American culture as well, I grew up playing hopscotch and jacks, learning kendo and ikebana. I
studied U.S. history at school and Japanese on Saturday. For breakfast I ate scrambled eggs and
mochi. Dinner could include fried chicken and sushi, (11). The Japanese strived to be both but the
government devastatingly didn t understand. The government feared the different culture and
beliefs and their possibilities they had for the country. Most Japanese were highly productive,
successful people in whatever work they pursued. As a result they became the brunt of some non
Japanese people s fears, envy and prejudice. The war provided the excuse for removing the Japanese
from the West Coast and to eliminate competition and literally take over whatever gains the
Japanese had made, (92). Placing the Japanese Americans into interment camps proved the
governments fear of the Japanese culture even though the

Carmen, Madness, And Sexuality
Carmen, Madness, and Sexuality
Upon finishing the novel, it becomes apparent that something is very wrong with Carmen
Sternwood. Once she takes Marlowe to the place where Regan was killed, she turns to Marlowe
and tries to kill him in the same manner. Marlowe, by this point, has caught on to Carmen, and
replaces the gun with blanks, which saves his life. He describes her at this moment as being aged,
deteriorated, become animal, and not a nice animal (Chandler 238). This change in her appearance
really reflects the change in her mental condition. After shooting at him, Carmen passes out and
remembers nothing. There is some dispute as to whether Carmen was intentionally killing and
acting stupid throughout the novel. However, it was apparent to Marlowe that she suffers from
some kind of epilepsy (Chandler 243). Carmen has a mental issue.
The question I would like to turn to now is why she is portrayed in that way. One of the sad
realities of the Victorian time period was the choice to view deviant behavior as proof of insanity.
Tania Woods, in her article that covers several different works and how they view female madness,
remarks that Victorian age literature defines madness in an animalistic way, which reflects the
concept of insanity as a deviation from human rationality (5). In the Victorian age, hysteria, a
unique disease to females, was gaining credibility, and women dominated the numbers in insane
asylums (Woods 5). Insanity was also linked to morality, in the

Adultism Essay
When I first saw what the topic was for this week s writing assignment, I was unaware what
adultism was. I thought adultism was the same as ageism, so it was confusing to me. When I
was looking up what adultism is, I did not know that it was discrimination against younger
people. When I was a child, I can imagine a time where I did notice that my thoughts, feelings,
rights, experiences were not given priority, in deference of the adults in the room. I mean when I
younger adults would always say to me is you re only a kid, you would never understand . At family
gatherings, my aunts and uncles would never include me in the conservations, they would just
talk over me. One example that stood out to me the most was when my family would celebrate
thanksgivings, myself and all the kids were not allowed to sit in the same room as the adults. We
would have to sit in another room and sit at the kids table to eat our dinner on thanksgivings. As I
got older I began to become mad at the fact that I was not included with the family dinner with my

The League Of Nations And The United Nations
After the first world war, the first organization which will bring countries together was the League
of Nations. the League of Nations was urgent to maintain a strategic distance from a redundancy of
the abhorrences of the Great War. The primary points of the association included demobilization,
avoiding war through aggregate security, settling question between nations through transaction and
discretion, and enhancing worldwide welfare. Unfortunately, they failed and their failures caused
the second world war. Then, after the world war II decided to replace the League of Nations by a
new organization named the United Nations. Their main goals were maintaining international peace
and security and to give a worldwide institutional structure through which states can here and there
settle conflicts with less dependence on the utilization of power. The six main organs of the United
Nations are the General Assembly, the Security Gathering, the Trusteeship Council, the Economic
and Social Council, the International Court of Justice, and the Secretariat Every organs has an
alternate part. For example, the General Assembly is the principal deliberative organ of the
United Nations involved all Member States(in which five great powers and ten pivoting part states
settle on choices about worldwide peace and security), each of which has one vote, regardless of its
size or impact. It might talk about any matter emerging under the UN Charter. Choices on

The End Of Apologetics Summary
The End of Apologetics In The End of Apologetics Myron Bradley Penner addresses the question
of how we are to do apologetics in our day in age. One of the main topics in this book is how the
Enlightenment has shaped how apologetics is done in the modern culture. Penner believes that the
Enlightenment erased our knowledge of past moral discourse (3). This carried over into the
Christian community and shaped how they approached apologetics. The focus shifted to be more
centralized on evidence and reason (7). Christians need to be equipped to deal with these new
challenges that secular society poses against Christians because ultimately the task of apologetics is
a Christian s duty. Christian apologetics should be utilize language well in order to faithfully
articulate its message. This includes examining one s own cultural biases.... Show more content on

However, Penner never truly defines the line between being understanding and loving and
compromising on key issues. The relational aspect of apologetics is one that is missing in the
current age, but one may easily compromise his or her orthodoxy by following Penner s example.
Penner stresses this relational approach in the context of the Postmodern context, but it is important
in every context. His story of John, the Roman Catholic Atheist, also brings up the question of the
distinction between apologetics and evangelism. He describes the story as being apologetics, but
they were trying to win John to faith in Christ. Penner uses this to describe that the reason he rejects
how the modern day from of apologetics is done is because it focuses on winning an argument
rather than reaching the

traditions. The Romans built artificial battlefields within amphitheaters in cities and towns for

It was then when officers of the state started producing the gladiatorial shows on a regular basis
as a part of their job. Emperor Augustus restricted the gladiatorial games to two a year, limiting
the aristocrats chances to receive the peoples vote for political offices. Each of the officials
were forbidden to spend more on themselves than their associates. However, the emperor s rules
were often broken by aristocrats due to the competitiveness of political power and prestige.
Animals played a part in the gladiatorial shows also. In A.D. 108 9, Emperor Trajan gave games
lasting 123 days containing 9,138 gladiators fought eleven thousand animals. In 169 B.C., sixty
three African lions and leopards, forty bears, and several elephants were murdered in a single
show. Romans then started to hunt new animals such as tigers, crocodiles, giraffes, lynxes,
rhinoceros, and ostriches. Some shows involved hundreds of animals in one show. All of the
animals were killed for entertainment. Gladiators were heroes to their culture. Even though most
of the gladiators were slaves, women were attracted to them. But gladiators were also degraded by
society. They were not allowed to be buried in normal burial grounds. Women also fought in
gladiatorial games also. The women fought in the arena were men fought. An example of women
fighting was found on a small stone relief, depicting two female gladiators, with one breast bare,
called Amazon an Achillia. Sports

A Reflection On The Work For Phi s Primary Mission
During collective bargaining, unionized organizations engage several nonwage issues. These issues
include management rights, union security, seniority provisions, the number of hours worked, and
the length of the union contract (Fossum, 2009, p. 318). In regards to the current employer I work
for, the following discussion will focus on my work environment, alternative work schedules,
overtime restrictions, and seniority promotions. In regards to the current employer I work for, PHI
s primary mission is to provide safe, reliable, helicopter transportation, in both oil/gas and Air
medical fields. In doing so, specifically the oil/gas industry, PHI employs aircraft mechanics, field
avionics members, pilots, and support staff to fulfill its objectives. Currently, the base at which I am
located consists of 40 aircraft mechanics, one field avionics representative, several pilots, support
staff and two maintenance supervisors, located in Houma, Louisiana. While each are assigned
specific tasking, collectively, all parties are responsible in meeting operational requirements i.e.
helicopter transportation. These requirements, via responsibilities and guidelines, such as, part
accountability, paperwork sign off, and routine maintenance are accountable to the FAA. Regarding
alternative work schedules, this is the first non wage issue, which affects my current employer.

Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging Functional cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a
diagnostic imaging modality that uses magnetic resonance imaging to assess cardiac function (5).
Cine studies can reconstruct images across several phases of the cardiac cycle. This method of

MRI does not expose the patient to radiopharmaceuticals, which gives cardiac MRI an advantage
over nuclear medicine (13). MRI also has better resolution than nuclear medicine. The excellent
contrast resolution of MRI produces a well defined endocardial border (7). MRI does not have the
problem of limited acoustic windows that sometimes inhibits echocardiographic imaging. Although
MRI is a reliable modality for cardiac imaging, there are some limitations to consider with this
modality. MRI is contraindicated for patients implanted devices such as pacemakers or
defibrillators. As with MUGA and SPECT studies, cardiac MRI is not as accurate in patients with
cardiac arrhythmias. When calculating ejection fraction with MRI, it is necessary for the patient
hold their breath. This means poor image quality for studies done on patients who cannot hold their
breath. In addition to this, any variation in the level of inspiration will affect the accuracy of

However, his unwillingness to compromise led to widespread disagreement. The opposition forces

H). These views all show the tremendous possibility the Treaty of Versailles had for ratification
if only President Wilson agreed to compromise. Finally, the irreconcilables were completely
closed to the possibility of a League of Nations, as seen in William Borah s speech in 1918,
which harshly criticizes and mocks the league with hypocritical antitheses like force to destroy
force, conflict to prevent conflict, militarism to destroy militarism, war to prevent war (Doc. A).
The irreconcilable s point of view is also illustrated by an image from the Tribune Media
Services, which shows the U.S. Senate suddenly objecting to the marriage of the U.S. to foreign
entanglement by the League of Nations on the basis of constitutional rights (Doc. E). According
to the senate, the U.S. would be losing the right to go to war along with collective security if they
joined the League of Nations. The position of European nations, specifically France and Britain,
was of hostility towards Germany for the mass casualties, causing an unwillingness to pardon them
from the guilt clause. The Treaty of Versailles had a great chance of being ratified if only
President Wilson would have been able to make small amendments. The reservationists had a strong

Volvo, Motorola, Ericsson, and Siemens have come to understand how dispersing authority of decision making out to the field organization drives job satisfaction. (Schon, 2010, 99 118) Job satisfaction drives productivity and process improvement. Process improvement cuts out waste. Cutting out waste improves the bottom line. There is still a clear disconnect with the goals and styles of the operations executive team in many organizations today. LSS deployments are bound to struggle without support from all levels of management. A deployment champion has a duty to make sure that projects align with high level goals in order to gain support from management. • 3. Alien Registration Act Racism had been escalating in the United States since the 19th century. Anxiety between migrant workers and the white workers had been excessive for years as many bosses forced them to compete for jobs and land. By 1924, the U.S. government prohibited nearly all immigration from Japan. Numerous states banned nuptials between white people and people of Asian ancestry. The United Statesbecame full of fear and hatred after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Anxiety of more attacks by the Japanese on their cities, homes, and businesses was especially present along the Pacific coast of the United States. However, this event did not give the government or the whites the right to discriminate and violate the rights of loyal hard working Japanese Americans. Prior to World War II, there were quite a bit of Japanese descendants living along the west coast. This document was born in the mind of John XXIII in the fall of 1962 which was during the Cuban missile crises when he was serving as the back channel between President John F. Transforming Species Into Molecular Biology Transforming Species into Molecular Biology Between 1850 and 1950, the definition of what science was and what it could become radically changed through means of breakthrough theories, ideas and experimentations from scientists exploring the realms outside of the traditional religious views. The method of how science was conducted drastically altered as well. The development of new technologies allowed scientists to step away from simple observation, towards more sophisticated and complex research. Through those influential hundred years, one question remained, what is life? And how do we appropriately characterize it? Because of this, three of sciences revolutionary icons approached their respective inquiries in different manners. Many of the problems Evangelical Christians struggled with then, they are still battling on to this day. Interestingly enough, when Jefferson won the election of 1800 and put his policies into effect, the Evangelicals at that time were rather shocked. Jefferson s policies aligned more closely to biblical teachings then the Evangelical favorite at this time, John Adams. It is compelling to think that the man that they presumed would bring destruction, not only to their country, but their church as well, turned out to be more biblically aligned in the long run. As clichГ© as it is, it brings us back to the saying, don t judge a book by its cover. In today s election as well as the election of 1800, it doesn t matter which party is chosen or which candidate ends up taking the presidency because a mixture of good and evil is found in both parties. In our minds we may think we are voting for the perfect choice, that our option is flawless and the only right answer for society. However, this is far from reality. Both parties lie, both parties make promises they can t keep and they all claim to be the savior of our country. The most common floats and tubes found in the deep ocean and on Hawaiian beaches come from huge sea urchin and oyster farms like the one that created the oyster buoy island. Those buoys were torn from their moorings by the tsunami that walloped Japan on March 11, 2011. But no regulatory remedies exist to deal with tons of plastic equipment lost accidentally and in storms. Government and industry organizations purporting to certify sustainably farmed seafood, despite their dozens of pages of standards, fail to mention gear that is lost and floats away. Governments, which are rightly concerned with depletion of marine food sources, should ensure that plastic from cages, buoys and other equipment used for aquaculture does not escape into the waters. But, in the end, the real challenge is to combat an economic model that thrives on wasteful products and packaging, and leaves the associated problem of clean up costs. • 11. Karl s Views On Social Science Karl Popper became a popular philosopher in the twentieth century, known for his emphasis on empirical falsification while studying the social sciences. He rejected previously popular views from the prewar era, namely Historicism, which focuses on only historical evidence in the observation of political and social events. In his book, Popper Selections, Popper vehemently opposes ideas such as historicism, collectivism, utopian principles, and the Marxian ideology. He asserts, there cannot, of course, be any rational discussion in a school of this kind (Popper 1985). Popper then places emphasis on the importance on the rise of tradition, meaning a tradition in places of learning that encourages critical discussion and new ideas, perhaps even rewards them. Not only does Popper maintain that this rise of criticism is important, he also states that those being criticized should be tolerant of dissenting view points and seek to understand the opposition rather than rejecting it. Furthermore, Popper states, the rationalist tradition, the tradition of critical discussion, represents the only practicable way of expanding our knowledge (Popper 1985). These ideas of critical discussion and critical rationalism essentially serve as the thesis to Popper s theory. Popper s reliance on the testability, falsifiability, scientific methodology and accumulating data and theories serve as the main components of Popperism. The Popperian ideology seems to be directly in opposition to historicism. Popper defines historicism as an approach to the social sciences which assumes that historical prediction is their principal aim, and which that assumes that this aim is attainable by discovering the rhythms or the patterns, the laws or the trends that underlie the evolution of history (Popper ... For example, multiple characters in the filmare split into two categories: those who are naturally good and those who are naturally evil. With this idea, characters either act how they are born or act on their free will to be who they want to be.The film employs a wide cast of talented actors who bring all their characters and roles to life. Harris from the New York Times, documents the current struggle of New York state public school ESL programs to fully accommodate the immigrant students needs. Overall, the ESL program is not effective in helping second language students catch up in subjects taught in English. In addition, the supply and demand is heavily unbalanced. More immigrant students are enrolling in public schools yet there is a lack of trained ESL teachers available even if the schoolwanted to hire more or establish more ESL programs. Take Bengali, for example. It is the fourth most common language among pupils learning English in the city s public schools. But there are only three bilingual Bengali programs in the schools. The article points out several main problems the administration is facing. The first is the obvious low funding due to the insufficient attention given to ESL learning as part of the public school education. • 29. Polish Civilians During The World War II At dawn on the morning of September 1st, 1939, German forces began their invasion and subsequent occupation of Poland. Initially, the Nazi takeover did not appear to be quite as dangerous or interruptive as many Poles expected it to be, particularly in urban locales such as Warsaw. However, as the days went by, the German occupation became much more noticeable within the daily lives of the Poles. Rations and other such restrictions were placed on the Polish people, eliminating the remaining bits of pre occupation normalcy from their lives and forcing any Pole who wanted to survive to circumvent the rules and regulations placed upon them by the Germans. The greatest risk faced by Polish civilians was death, be it in a death camp or in the cities and towns, where German forces managed to kill thousands of innocent, unlucky Poles. Documenting these events were writers William L. Shirer, an American journalist, in his Berlin Diary and Lucyna B. Radlo, a teenage girl from Poland, in her novel Between Two Evils. The experiences of Polish civilians during the German occupation and the Poles transition from near normalcy to near death within their daily lives model how a combination of hard work, creativity, and a stroke of luck can be the key to survival. For the first few weeks of September in 1939, life for most Polish citizens didn t seem to be too out of the ordinary. Radlo, whose family and friends were camped out in their Warsaw apartment, testifies to this, saying that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When imitating Steins, it demonstrated the power of repetition. In tender buttons, however, Stein proses creative poems on simple, domesticated objects such as food. With this repetition in her food pieces, it allows the readers to hear the wordor phrase in different angles. By doing so, the reader then examines the word or phrase in a way that was not originally thought of, shedding a new meaning to the word or phrase. Not only, does the repetition allow for examining new meanings of the word, but also re illuminating a word that has become a clichГ© which is evident in her poem rose . At first glance, the poem seems to have no creativity and seems absurd. When reading the poem, however, it allowed for the reader to hear the phonemic sounds, illuminating the word once again.... • 31. How Optical Antennas Are An Emerging Concept Within... 1. Introduction Optical antennas are an emerging concept in physical optics. Similar to radio wave and microwave antennas, their purpose is to convert the energy of free propagating radiation to localized energy, and vice versa. Optical antennas exploit the unique properties of metal nanostructures, which behave as strongly coupled plasmas at optical frequencies. Electromagnetic (EM) waves from low radiofrequencies (RF) to high optical frequencies pervade our environment. They interact with matter by coupling directly to the motion of charge carriers. This carrier motion can be associated with characteristic spectral resonances resulting from absorption and emission of EM energy. According to the IEEE Standard Definitions of Terms for Antennas, an antenna is defined as the part of a transmitting or receiving system that is designed to radiate or to receive electromagnetic waves [1]. Depending on the resonance properties, environment, and use, an antenna can be designed in all sizes and shapes including linear dipoles, horns, dishes, apertures, and patches. Despite the different form factors, all antennas operate under the same principle. They mediate the transformation between propagating EM energy and localized or confined energy delivered to a load or emitted from a source via coupling of the EM energy to electron motion. Although originally conceived for radio waves, the antenna definition above notably does not constrain the frequency range of operation. The same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here, the viewer is presented with a seemingly perfect upper class neighborhood full of California Spanish houses. The children outside are playing baseball and an ice cream truck drives by, representing the epitome of the American Dream. The image is sharp and clear, with the light source coming from the right. Each frame of the camera is busy and cluttered, and there is a great deal of movement from both the props and the actors. The first shot is equitably realistic; however, German expressionism lingers in the design of the set, adding oneiric qualities to the shot. The great storyline and bold lyrics was a huge factor in choosing to analyze this song. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most organizations in the business arena today are quite complex, large and have many departments. It cannot be the basis of the costing system in these organizations as it can only be efficient when there are low indirect costs compared to direct costs. On the other hand, Activity based costing (ABC) attempts to accurately trace indirect costs to products by allocating indirect costs to activities and then to products based on their usage of the activities. In order to counter the flaws of the Traditional Costing System, most organizations have adopted the ABC method. ABC is an effective way to allocate the indirect costs and it leads to more accuracy because it relies upon a greater number of activity and resource cost drivers rather than only focusing on volume based cost drivers. Also in contrast to the traditional costing system, ABC is optimal when indirect costs are higher as it utilizes several indirect cost pools and divides the production function into many activity areas. The activity based approach provides a precise breakdown of indirect costs and eliminates the allocation of irrelevant costs to a product therefore providing a more exact reflection of product and customer profitability. Thus, unlike traditional costing, ABC gives equal importance to other factors such as business competition, accuracy, customer satisfaction, product development etc. It s emphasis on product efficiency helps the company establish a ... One of the main topics in this book is how the Enlightenment has shaped how apologetics is done in the modern culture. Penner believes that the Enlightenment erased our knowledge of past moral discourse (3). This carried over into the Christian community and shaped how they approached apologetics. The focus shifted to be more centralized on evidence and reason (7). Christians need to be equipped to deal with these new challenges that secular society poses against Christians because ultimately the task of apologetics is a Christian s duty. Christian apologetics should be utilize language well in order to faithfully articulate its message. This includes examining one s own cultural biases.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Penner never truly defines the line between being understanding and loving and compromising on key issues. The relational aspect of apologetics is one that is missing in the current age, but one may easily compromise his or her orthodoxy by following Penner s example. Penner stresses this relational approach in the context of the Postmodern context, but it is important in every context. His story of John, the Roman Catholic Atheist, also brings up the question of the distinction between apologetics and evangelism. He describes the story as being apologetics, but they were trying to win John to faith in Christ. Penner uses this to describe that the reason he rejects how the modern day from of apologetics is done is because it focuses on winning an argument rather than reaching the ... An Inspector Calls by J.B Priestley In An Inspector Calls by J.B Priestley, each character indirectly kills Eva Smith. Every member of the family conceals a dark secret which links them to her suicide. Though some may argue Mr. Arthur Birling could have triggered the chain of events leading to Eva Smith s death, I disagree. Birling, a man in his mid fifties, is the first of the family to be acquainted with Eva Smith after he fires her from his business, Birling and Company, for being a ring leader and encouraging his female workers to go on strike and demand a higher pay. • 50. Gladiatorial Contest in Rome Gladiatorial Contest in Rome Rome was a warrior state. Since the state was a great fighting state in their time, the wars sort of formed the gladiatorial contest in ancient Rome. The Romans were fascinated and pleasured by violence, bloodshed, and human suffering the gladiatorial games. The gladiatorial contests began at the reign of their first emperor Augustusto pay tribute to their warrior traditions. The Romans built artificial battlefields within amphitheaters in cities and towns for public entertainment. It is very obvious that gladiatorial contest were important because of the enormous size of the amphitheaters. It was then when officers of the state started producing the gladiatorial shows on a regular basis as a part of their job. Emperor Augustus restricted the gladiatorial games to two a year, limiting the aristocrats chances to receive the peoples vote for political offices. Each of the officials were forbidden to spend more on themselves than their associates. However, the emperor s rules were often broken by aristocrats due to the competitiveness of political power and prestige. Animals played a part in the gladiatorial shows also. In A.D. 108 9, Emperor Trajan gave games lasting 123 days containing 9,138 gladiators fought eleven thousand animals. In 169 B.C., sixty three African lions and leopards, forty bears, and several elephants were murdered in a single show. Romans then started to hunt new animals such as tigers, crocodiles, giraffes, lynxes, rhinoceros, and ostriches. Some shows involved hundreds of animals in one show. All of the animals were killed for entertainment. Gladiators were heroes to their culture. Even though most of the gladiators were slaves, women were attracted to them. But gladiators were also degraded by society. They were not allowed to be buried in normal burial grounds. Women also fought in gladiatorial games also. The women fought in the arena were men fought. An example of women fighting was found on a small stone relief, depicting two female gladiators, with one breast bare, called Amazon an Achillia. Sports ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. A Reflection On The Work For Phi s Primary Mission During collective bargaining, unionized organizations engage several nonwage issues. These issues include management rights, union security, seniority provisions, the number of hours worked, and the length of the union contract (Fossum, 2009, p. 318). In regards to the current employer I work for, the following discussion will focus on my work environment, alternative work schedules, overtime restrictions, and seniority promotions. In regards to the current employer I work for, PHI s primary mission is to provide safe, reliable, helicopter transportation, in both oil/gas and Air medical fields. In doing so, specifically the oil/gas industry, PHI employs aircraft mechanics, field avionics members, pilots, and support staff to fulfill its objectives. Currently, the base at which I am located consists of 40 aircraft mechanics, one field avionics representative, several pilots, support staff and two maintenance supervisors, located in Houma, Louisiana. While each are assigned specific tasking, collectively, all parties are responsible in meeting operational requirements i.e. helicopter transportation. These requirements, via responsibilities and guidelines, such as, part accountability, paperwork sign off, and routine maintenance are accountable to the FAA. Regarding alternative work schedules, this is the first non wage issue, which affects my current employer. Because of limited employee availability, which meets FAA requirements, most employees live non local. This allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. HC Brakes Ryan faced several barriers for any meaningful change to happen. He was unable to implement TQM into VC Brakes because of the organization structure (unresponsive management finger pointing culture). Ryan was unable to break the divider between management and lower level employees to make progress with TQM. Managementoften ignored employees, for example, the floor workers knew what they needed but management refused to listen and stood in the way of these needs (Cespedes, 2013). There was a lack of good leadershipto lead change and a sense of urgency. One of the strongest drivers of change at VC Brakes was Ryan s dedication for change leadership. Ryan was effective as the senior manager of the engineering services team (ES). However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging Functional cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a diagnostic imaging modality that uses magnetic resonance imaging to assess cardiac function (5). Cine studies can reconstruct images across several phases of the cardiac cycle. This method of MRI can measure left ventricular volume, ejection fraction, myocardial contraction, and strain rate (10). MRI has the ability to provide information on left ventricular function as well as regional profusion simultaneously (11). The new MRI techniques can also evaluate angiogenesis and myocardial viability. This has proven to be a valuable tool in diagnosing many heartconditions such as myocarditis, amyloidosis, and restrictive cardiomyopathy. Technology... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... MRI does not expose the patient to radiopharmaceuticals, which gives cardiac MRI an advantage over nuclear medicine (13). MRI also has better resolution than nuclear medicine. The excellent contrast resolution of MRI produces a well defined endocardial border (7). MRI does not have the problem of limited acoustic windows that sometimes inhibits echocardiographic imaging. Although MRI is a reliable modality for cardiac imaging, there are some limitations to consider with this modality. MRI is contraindicated for patients implanted devices such as pacemakers or defibrillators. As with MUGA and SPECT studies, cardiac MRI is not as accurate in patients with cardiac arrhythmias. When calculating ejection fraction with MRI, it is necessary for the patient hold their breath. This means poor image quality for studies done on patients who cannot hold their breath. In addition to this, any variation in the level of inspiration will affect the accuracy of ejection fraction calculations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. What Does Running A Technology Practice A Modern Agency... What does running a technology practice in a modern agency look like? 1.Opportunities and Goals a.Strategic Alliances There is a ton of tiny gems in New York nuclear teams of a handful of developers able to crank out code of superb quality at rates below market. Using a honeypot of smaller and larger projects we can quickly find and build relationships with multiple teams and groom them for acqu hire. Using small teams, Brand Connections can build an improved mobile platform to replace race to retail. b.Incubation Building mobile, 3D/VR, and other capabilities in house would be a great asset to the company. By building a small incubator we can attract talent for pennies, as long as we supply the facilities and exposure. Some tech to explore would be: i.Emerging Technologies 1.Microsoft HoloLens (dev kits ship in the spring) 2.Oculus Rift (DK2 available now, Consumer Version expected this year) 3.Samsung Gear VR (already out) ii. Interactive Advertising and Measurement 1.Reactive ad displays 2.Brand ambassador interaction tracking with facial recognition 3.In store navigation solutions 2.Technical Debt Working with vendors, partners, and internal dev teams is always difficult when it comes to code quality. Since technical debt is the most straightforward way to measure software quality, this section attempts to explain what technical debt is, and propose a way to quantify and manage it at Brand Connections. • 55. Essay about 1991 Apush Dbq 1991 DBQ In the aftermath of World War I, during the years 1917 1921, President Wilson advocated the Treaty of Versailles, which called for the principle of self determination, the formation of a League of Nations, and general amnesty towards Germany, as the solution for peace. However, his unwillingness to compromise led to widespread disagreement. The opposition forces in the U.S. senate consisted of the reservationists, who were willing to ratify the Treaty of Versailles with amendments, and the irreconcilables, who refused to join the League of Nationsunder any circumstances. If President Wilson was only willing to modify the language of the treaty, ratification may have occurred. President Wilson s unwillingness to compromise... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... H). These views all show the tremendous possibility the Treaty of Versailles had for ratification if only President Wilson agreed to compromise. Finally, the irreconcilables were completely closed to the possibility of a League of Nations, as seen in William Borah s speech in 1918, which harshly criticizes and mocks the league with hypocritical antitheses like force to destroy force, conflict to prevent conflict, militarism to destroy militarism, war to prevent war (Doc. A). The irreconcilable s point of view is also illustrated by an image from the Tribune Media Services, which shows the U.S. Senate suddenly objecting to the marriage of the U.S. to foreign entanglement by the League of Nations on the basis of constitutional rights (Doc. E). According to the senate, the U.S. would be losing the right to go to war along with collective security if they joined the League of Nations. The position of European nations, specifically France and Britain, was of hostility towards Germany for the mass casualties, causing an unwillingness to pardon them from the guilt clause. The Treaty of Versailles had a great chance of being ratified if only President Wilson would have been able to make small amendments. The reservationists had a strong argument about the pros of a League of Nations, but they disagreed with Article 10, which gave the League s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
