With staffing levels lower, more responsibility is put on the shoulders of one worker and that could be
a very difficult task to retain high service levels.
In the fourth quarter the team found that complaints have again fallen given the data collected which
would indicate that the staff has regained performance and is operation better in this quarter with the
same being true in the last quarter. As a result, of the results in the data and given the findings that
performance decreased in the later quarter, the team believes that employees that are much better
suited for handling the increase. The decrease in complaints resulted from gathered information
throughout the quarters. Managers were able to see different trends and were able to gather complaints
from diners throughout the quarter. Upon compiling all the information together, the manager of Blue
Bowl was able to make significant changes and continue with training thus the reason for the steady
decrease. A random sample over the course of a few weeks produces 91 surveys or customer
complaint cards. The observations produced a mean of x= 26.1 and a standard deviation to s= 2.8.
Since the sample size is large the standard formula will be used. The equation will be 26.1 + and 1.960
2.8 / the square root of 91. Once the calculations are done we can determine the calculations will be
26.1 + and 0.58. Thus the 95% confidence level for u will be 25.52 and

Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy s Speech
In 1962, The United States of America was fighting off financial ruin and the Vietnamese, as well as
powerful business leaders. Spikes in the price of iron and wages for iron workers threw the unsteady
economy, back in the hole. The President at the time, John F. Kennedy, made a speech to the United
States citizens concerning these issues. He used many techniques to get his point across, such as a
powerful vocation, an appeal to patriotism, and factual data. President Kennedy s uses a great deal of
factual evidence to prove his point. He uses numerical data and fact based predictions statistics, to
appeal to the audience s sense of common reasoning. The nmber make the argument easier to agree
with because numbers are usually taken as facts not tainted by emotion or human will. When talking
about the steel workers unions in lines 46 to 74, President Kennedy uses it a direct quotation from a
report by a federal agency. A time period and an amount of money are used in the end of the paragraph

CHINA: WHERE IT S BEEN AND WHERE IT S GOING 2
Abstract
The purpose of this essay is to show how the economy of China has, and is changing, becoming the
second largest economy in the world today. Although China is currently under the leadership of Xi
Jinping, this essay will concentrate primarily on the actions undertaken by then President Mao
Zedong, followed by then President Deng Xiaoping, (sans mention of Hua Guofeng). Given the
relative infancy of Xi s assumption of power, economic policies still remain largely rhetorical in form.
Likewise, the majority of literature concerning economic policies under Xi are largely speculative,
often citing strategies and ambitions as opposed to thereby, lacking a solid basis for rational induction
In addition to China s lack of transparency, In addition, it will be shown that the methodology behind
the Chinese economy demonstrates the implementation of varying levels of the characteristics
associated with the schools of Realism, Marxism and Liberalism. Thus, China s approach to global
trade in the 21st Century is pluralistic, testamentary to the failed economic

How Does Delillo Present The Fear Of Death In White Noise
The fear of death is one of the most prominent themes in White Noise. Everything in the novel from
Hitler to the toxic airborne event circles back to how human beings are subconsciously afraid of
dying. DeLillo s novel displays how life attempts to push this fear away, almost saying out of sight,
out of mind . Yet, as we see in the characters of Jack and Babette, the fear continues to rear its ugly
head and fill them with terror. DeLillo shows this close relationship between life and death. He could
be trying to show how death lingers dangerously in the background of our lives. The toxic event
changed the way Jack Gladney feared death. Not only did it make his fear worse, but it made him
absolutely terrified of it. During the event, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be based on the fact that no matter who you are or what you do, death is inevitable. I
believe that Jack relates to a Hitler like persona because he relates to this idea of life credit . When
Jack is talking to Murray, Murray mentions that to kill another person is to gain life credit. The more
people you kill, the more credit you store up (DeLillo pg. 277). This is similar to Hitler, from my own
knowledge, I already know that Hitler thought the more people he killed the more power he would
gain and the more invincible he would feel. Jack seems to have the same mindset because he thinks
killing a man will give him more time. He is almost trying to cheat death and outlive the chemical
inside of him. I feel like Jack thinks that if he kills someone, he gains whatever years they had left. As
any rational person would know, this is just simply impossible, but Jack seems to believe this illusion
is his ticket to maximizing the time he has left. The common theme between these two passages is that
death is an inescapable process. I found it very interesting that the toxic event happened before Jack
shot Willie Mink. The toxic event only made it more clear to Jack that he is going to die because of his
chemical exposure, however it also hastened his dying process. This is why I find it so strange that
Jack tried to kill Mr. Mink. From my understanding, Jack was under the impression that killing
someone would extend his life, however he knows that he

Pedigree Dog Breeds
Carol Bailey had always wanted a dog. Every year she asked her dad if their family could finally get a
dog. He had always refused, describing the pain that you go through when they inevitably pass away.
When she was in eighth grade, after years of asking, her father finally caved in. The Baileys decided
to get a golden retriever from a breeder in town. They went together and picked out a dog to buy.
Before the dog was old enough to be picked up by the Baileys, it died from an unknown cause. The
breeder apologized and allowed them to choose another from the same litter. With their playful puppy
Andy finally at home, Carol could not be happier. She spent hours each day playing with him, walking
him, and even trying to teach tricks to him, although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One option is to cut out the popular sire effect and close breeding and to limit the amount of line
breeding. Breeders should switch out dogs instead of sticking to one sire or one pair of dogs, as it
limits the diversity of the genes. Another option that is becoming more popular is breeding two
purebreds together to create a hybrid breed like the Labradoodle, which is a cross between a Labrador
retriever and a poodle. This option adds variety to the gene pool while also keeping some traits from
both breeds. This option, like any, is not 100% effective because dog breeds can have common health
problems. If dogs are bred after doing research on the common health problems, it can result in a
healthy mixed breed with a more diverse gene pool. While there is no certain way to get rid of all
health problems associated with inbreeding, other than to stop putting value on purebreds altogether
and moving toward mutts, steps to prevent further inbreeding must be taken to improve the quality of
life for future generations of purebred

Reflecting on Religious Expression and School Prayer Essay
This country is comprised of individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic groups,
sexual orientations, and faith traditions. Whether it relates to race, class, religion or any other category
where one resides in the dominant group, it is tempting not to become oppressive and fail to show
mutual respect to the diverse cultures and beliefs of other groups. Furthermore, as educational leaders,
we must be equipped with knowledge around policies related to the above mentioned, so that we can
enforce such and build upon those that need refining.
In reflecting on religious expression and school prayer, it is important to realize the current legal
issues and policies that should inform the regulation of such within the context of the ... Show more

Any school promotion or endorsement of a student s private religious activity is unconstitutional.
There have been various acts across schools within this country to discriminate and demean students
within schools because they follow faith traditions different than that of the dominant group. Thus, it
is important to realize that though as a school body one cannot endorse or promote one religion or
faith tradition over another, as educational leaders we also should not engage in discrimination and
disrespect for faith believes that do not align with ours or allow other students and staff to engage in
such. Rather we must work to promote multicultural acceptance and mutual respect, celebrating the
rich diversity among all individuals and groups.
Landmark Cases
There are three landmark cases most relevant to the discussion on religious expression and school
prayer. Engle v. Vitale is a case where the Court held that recitation of a prayer composed by the New
York State Board of Regents, which was to be said in the presence of a teacher at the beginning of
school each day, was unconstitutional and in violation of the Establishment Clause. School District of
Abington Township v. Schempp presents a case where the Court held that reading the Bible for
sectarian purposes and reciting the Lord s Prayer in public schools during normal hours were
unconstitutional; however, the Court asserted that the Bible could be read as literature in

Too much money on something so pointless.
Pointless? Yes pointless. Do you remember why we originally went to war with Iraq? Bush told us
they had weapons of mass destruction. Do they? No. Why are we still there? I don t know... do you?
After searching Iraq for weapons and coming up empty handed George Bush decided he did not like
Sadam Hussein and the world would be much safer with out him so he attacks. He did not even have
the support of the European Union. Opposing countries included France, Germany, Russia, Greece,
Belgium and Belarus. He is now trying to make Iraq a democracy, like the American government,
which is not a bad idea at all. There is just way too much opposition from Iraq, they obviously do not
want it, let them have there dictatorship, it is not our problem. This is a useless war now. We do have
to give credit to the many countries that helped us by sending in there own troops to Iraq. Mainly
England, Italy and Poland who sent a combined total of almost 15,000 troops to the 130,000 America
sent. Unfortunately there are casualties.
Casualties include over 1000 American deaths and 7722 wounded American s in Iraq. What about the
Iraqi people? Are they cooperating? Nope, so far around 15,000 have been killed 30% of the deaths
were civilians. This is not right for Bush to do. He should not be in Iraq killing that many people

Glastonbury Festival Shortage
A shortage of event loos could scupper your plans You may remember back in 2012, the world famous
Glastonbury festival being cancelled. While the vast majority of people had it put down to a shortage
of police officers due to the London Olympics, the festival organiser Michael Eavis, also recalls a
shortage of portable loo hire being one of the main reasons to shut down the event. The huge shortage
in and around the capital meant a significant lack of event loos everywhere else. Despite Glastonbury
being one of the biggest festivals in the world, alongside the likes of Coachella in LA and Roskilde in
Denmark, they own only half of the mobile loos they actually need resulting in them needing to hire
the rest. As a result of huge demand for them during the London Olympics however, they were unable
to locate any at a reasonable cost and were inevitably forced to close down the festival. In spite of
regularly taking a year off every five or six years, this unexpected turn of events meant closing the
festival earlier than usual and disappointing their loyal attendees but this doesn t just happen to events

The History Of Interracial Marriage
Social norms have long been dictated by racism. Prior to the Loving v. Virginia Supreme Court Case
in 1967, it was socially acceptable for certain states to dictate which race of people one could marry
from. For example, in many southern states, it was illegal for a white man to marry a black woman. It
was not until the Loving v. Virginia case reached the Supreme Court in 1966 that the constitutionality
of these laws was considered. The Loving v. Virginia case erupted when Richard and Mildred Loving
were arrested when they returned to their house in Caroline County, Virginia after traveling to
Washington D.C. to get married (Newbeck and Wolfe). Prior to the Supreme Court ruling that laws
preventing interracial marriage were unconstitutional, interracial marriages were extremely rare.
However, after this ruling was made, the popularity of interracial marriages began to slowly climb.
Sadly, despite the increase in popularity, social acceptance of these marriages had not increased until
the last twenty years (Rosentiel).
According to PEW Research, a notorious research company based in Washington D.C., interracial
couples are becoming more widely accepted than they were in 1967. Today, Nearly four in ten adults
say...people marrying someone of a different race is good for society. (Bailik). Although this statistic
may seem low, it is important to remember that the remaining people are not necessarily against
interracial marriage. In fact, Americans today are also less likely to

A Social Examination On The Cold War
Brittany O Neill
May Paper
Elaine Tyler takes a social examination on the war against communism in the book, Homeward
Bound: American Families in the Cold War Era. May portrays the idea that the nuclear family
structure was a way to amplify resistance against communism. The exterior threat of communism
during the postwar and the Cold War era caused for interrelationships within marriages to become a
longer and more stable environment. Compared to the previous book we read as a class, May takes a
deeper look into history and finds geopolitical reasoning for the events of the postwar age. The
interpersonal that May connects to the Cold War era allows for the reader to gain a broader concept of
how society affected change.
First within each book read this semester, each author takes a unique view on the Cold War. In John
Gaddis s The Cold War: A New History, Gaddis takes a series of books on the Cold War, condenses
them and is able to give a fresh synopsis of the Cold War. His topics are broad and give a clear
overview of the Cold War. He looks upon the leaders of the Cold War, including Joseph Stalin, Ronald
Reagan, Nikita Khrushchev and others to find reasoning on the outcome of the Cold War. His story
looks at the foreign policies of each country and dissects reasoning for the events that occurred during
the time.
In comparison to John Gaddis, May s book has more social and domestic view on the Cold War.

Can Kids Be Scared Straight
Has someone ever used fear to motivate you to do something or prevent you from doing something
you shouldn t? In Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God rather than motivating his congregation by
describing the joys of Heaven, Edwards tries to frighten them by evoking the horrors and torment of
Hell. In Beyond Scared Straight, the program takes juveniles to a prison where they see an
unvarnished glimpse into prison life and where your consequences may take you. In the article Can

The Theory Of The Mathematics Teacher
While the rule taught youth is at sea when beyond his rules, the youth instructed in principles solves a
new case as readily as an old one . (Spencer, 1878, p.57)
What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing. It also depends on
what sort of person you are . (Lewis, 1994, p.108)
The mathematics teacher builds examples into their arsenal of resources to help demonstrate the
mathematical principles they are trying to teach (Dreyfus, 1994). However, not all examples are
equally constructed and provide the same learning experience to the learner. Spencer (1978) believes
that learners who know principles are more prepared than rule focussed learners to tackle problems.
This is the same within mathematics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The methodology will describe how the study will be conducted and why. Observations will be
recorded on the process of constructing examples and how they are employed in the classroom.
Percentage examples will be constructed and these will be used in the teaching of percentages to a
Year 7 class. Further observations will be made on how the learners approach and conduct the
examples. Analysis of the response to these examples will be made where recommendations will be
offered to improve my application as a mathematics teacher. It is intended that this investigation and
use of Variation Theory will improve my understanding of the construction of examples and thus
improve the learners experience.
BACKGROUND
The study was conducted in a Leicestershire high school that accepts learners from year 7 to 9. Year 7s
enter directly from several feeder primary schools and generally leave to join a single upper school
where they sit GCSEs. Although it does not take the learners through formal exams, the school s
primary focus is on the preparation to attain qualifications. This means its Scheme of Work (SOW) is
fixed to meeting the National Curriculum (NC).
The class studied is a year 7 mixed ability mathematics class. This consisted of 32 learners with a boy

Sunlight And Sunlight
Sunlight and shade can have effects on how the way turf grasses and weeds grow in lawns. Sunlight is
make ultraviolet radiation, and certain types of UV radiation can cause harm to turf gasses by.
Ultraviolet radiation all depends on what wavelengths the turf grasses can handle, the wavelengths
average from 400 280nm (Huylenbroeck and Bockstaele, 2001). Turf grasses start to form adaptations
to help survive in these conditions, by producing high amounts of chlorophyll, and having other
characteristics change to help better preform in the conditions. Shade is also a benefactor when it
comes to the turf grasses health. With excessive amounts of shade, objects are preventing the turf to
get the nutrients it needs from the sunlight to survive. Without the nutrients the turf will start to obtain
smaller roots, reduced shoots, and be introduced to diseases (Busey and Davis, 1991). Shade can also
be preventing water access to the turf grass. Types of grass are considered to be shade tolerable like
the fine fescues, and the rough bluegrass (Harper, 2013). The conditions of where turf grass is found
in order to maintain its health.
Sunlight includes ultraviolet radiation, which can harm turf grass. Ultraviolet radiation is split into
three different categories based on their wavelengths, UV A, UV B, and UV C. UV A has a wave
length of 400 315nm, and is the least harmful to turf grass. UV B has a wave length of 315 280nm,
and is responsible for getting through the ozone layer and is the most harmful UV light to turf grass.
UV C has a wavelength of 100 280nm, but this wavelength never reaches the earth. The smaller the
wavelength the more energy, and radiation with higher energy can penetrate deeper into the cells,
causing more damage (Huylenbroeck and Bockstaele, 2001). Over exposure to ultraviolet radiation
can be harmful to grasses and weeds, by damaging the grasses DNA, its proteins, lipids and
membranes. With over exposure to ultraviolet radiation, grasses can undergo mutations when
reproducing. Mutations are however, mostly negative, inhibiting vital cellular processes (DNA
transcription and replication) and resulting in disturbed cellular function, sometimes even cell death
(Busey and Davis, 1991).

Life Of Pi Where During Pi s Journey
Discoveries referring to people and places can lead an individual to new values and understandings
but also ramifications. These discoveries being on a large or small scale can lead to positive outcomes
such as new understandings and values or negative outcomes being ramification or consequences
brought from a discovery. This is evident in Ang Lee s film Life of Pi where during Pi s journey and
hardships lead to his new understanding of faith contrasted to his discovery to survive on his journey,
seen through his relationship with Richard Parker and his belief that animals have souls, lead to vast
ramifications. Similarly, in Julian Barnes short story Marriage Lines the return to the Island bring new

Pi s understanding of faith is further developed in the face of adversity during his time stranded in the
pacific. This is conveyed through Lee s use of magic realism in the daybreak scene, where through
Lee use of the wide shot of the horizon meeting the ocean, emphasising the hue colours of orange
which contrast s to Pi s message about God and placing his faith in him, God I give myself to you. I
am your vessel. Whatever comes I want to know. Show me . Through Pi s actions of losing hope in the
message in the bottle, emphasised in Lee s close up camera work and stagnated water, but also in the
rational world, he demonstrates his discovery of religion and faith being tested, linking back to the
quote of the older Pi. Pi s ultimate test of faith is demonstrated through the Storm and the Carnivorous
Island both considered forces of nature where Pi s faith and submission to his faith are tested through
both situations appearing to be less violent and dangerous in nature than they truly are. Lee
demonstrates this new understanding by again using the experienced older Pi narrating the lessons
learned in adversity, If I hadn t discovered the tooth, I would have been lost, alone forever. Even when
God seemed to abandon me he was watching... . This final step ultimately displays how Pi found new
understanding to his faith through the experiences on his journey. Therefore, through Pi s journey
leads him to the discovery of the new understanding

Discrimination Against Homosexuals
1.0 Topic and Chosen Report
Discrimination is defined as the unjust or prejudicial treatment towards certain groups or categories of
a specified entity. Encompassed within the scope of discrimination is the pertinent subject matter,
Discrimination Against Homosexuals in Today s Youth. As the dynamic generation of the current
world grows exponentially vocal with their standpoints, certain folds in the society today express their
negative outlook pertaining to homosexuals, leading to the ostracized generalization of the already
shunned minority. Therefore, the subject matter of discrimination against homosexuals is rather apt as
a form of oppression.

Dr. Friedman M (2014) emphasizes that although considerable gains have been made in the
acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) into the general community, biasness
is still prevalent and has very notable mental health consequences. This is due to the fact that
homosexuals generally receive greater amounts of discrimination than heterosexuals (American
Journal of Public Health 2011). A succinct paradigm to this includes a recent study which showed that
homosexuals are more likely to commit suicide as a result of discrimination, when compared to
heterosexual. This disparity is due to the discrimination and prejudice faced by homosexuals
(DeAngelis 2002, Vol 33, No.2, Pg46). Discrimination against homosexuals takes a toll on the
individuals targeted and as the evidence illustrates, discrimination in any form ushers in a strafing
array of detrimental effects to the individuals

Budget Overview
The budget is a financial plan for the university that quantifies the resource allocation plan for the next
three fiscal years. The budget process begins in early fall of each year to develop the budget for the
following fiscal year as well as projected budgets for the next 2 years. Budgeting at the unit level is a
decentralized process. Each unit is responsible for building its own budget. The allocation letter, in
addition to various other data collected at the unit level, is essential to completing this process. Central
administration distributes the allocation letter, which includes the assumptions and the initial

Fema Research Paper
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) partners with Homeland Security to aid
Americans and people in other countries in case a major disaster occurs. They give out food and water
and help provide shelters to those who have lost their homes. But it has only been in recent years after
terrorist attacks on U.S. soil that Homeland Security has joined this group. This has increased
suspicions towards why a group that was created to fight terrorists would need to be involved in aiding
those who have been in an earthquake or flooding. Few Americans feel that they have any hope of
being able to truly count on their assistance because of this. But that isn t the only reason. FEMA has

High Amount of Losses
Unfortunately, FEMA already knows what most Americans don t. There will be a huge amount of
casualties because so few people are prepared for a state of emergency to happen. Because of this,
they are already prepared to bury thousands of people with a stash of coffins that they keep handy.
Although this sounds cruel, it should be used as motivation for people to not expect FEMA to be their
savior in case of a disaster. They have to be able to handle situations on their own instead.
As you can see, this organization is highly motivated to work against the American people, not for
them. That is why it is extremely important that people start preparing now for a possible crisis now.

THE EFFECT OF AUDIT ON CORPORATE SUSTAINABILITY, GROWTH AND
DEVELOPMENT By J. R. A. Adefiranye
Abstract For profitability and liquidity, companies need adequate finances. Finance stakeholders (that
is, shareholders, creditors and other financial lenders) are the providers of these finances. Their
interests and beliefs in the activities of the companies are required to make them invest. A recent share
investments survey in Lagos and Abuja, involving 100 respondents covering investors and prospective
investors (60 and 40 respondents respectively), revealed that 70 percent of the investors place heavy
reliance on the integrity of a company s auditor before investing in that company. 80 percent of the
prospective investors chose never to advance money of whatever form to any company because they
have lost confidence in audit firms. This, they hinged on the fact that companies, despite their
stunning performance reports attested to by audit firms, still go bankrupt. Using questionnaires and
interviews, we gathered relevant data from investors, prospective investors, audit firms and some
financial institutions (banks) for this study. We analysed these data using descriptive and inferential
statistical analysis tools. It was discovered that there is a very strong link between audit and finance
stakeholders

Mental Processes In Identifying Strangers
1. Identify and define the mental processes that account for mistakes in identifying strangers. Also
identify the circumstances that affect the accuracy of perceptions in identifying strangers. Memories
can be influenced by time, emotion, prejudices, and intentions. It is important to understand how the
mind processes memories and how that could apply to criminal justice. Psychologists separate
memory into three phases: acquisition of memory, retention of memory, and retrieval of memory [1].
Acquisition of memory is when information is first received in the mind. Retention of memory is the
period of time between acquisition and retrieval: this is an on going process of storing this
information, and when memories can be influenced most. Lastly, ... Show more content on

Use Of Imagery In Macbeth
Shakespeare, distinctive yet similar to other playwrights, uses vivid imagery to foretell the subsequent
acts of his play. This is very much apparent in Act 4, where Shakespeare manifests the future of
Macbeth s fate in a series of apparitions. The first apparition, an armed head, warns Macbeth of the
danger of MacDuff. MacDuff appreciates this warning but is relatively unalarmed by MacDuff as
shown in the following quote, Whate er thou art, for thy good caution, thanks. Thou hast harped my
fear aright (4.1.75 67). Despite Macbeth s relaxed, initial reaction, I do think that Shakespeare had a
clear purpose in this apparition. This derives from the fact that MacDuff would be a worthy foe of
Macbeth in the future. Macbeth presently, however,

The Interpretation Of Dreams By Sigmund Freud
Some dream big, some dream small, and sadly some dream not at all The Interpretation of Dreams
was published by Sigmund Freud in the year 1900 as a thought provoking compilation of ideas
surrounding the cognitive processes of dreaming. Although this book has been translated and edited
since its original publishing date, it reads as if to hold true to Freudian fashion; addressing levels of
consciousness and their effects on how specific dreams are formed. Freud makes a clear and reverent
effort to acknowledge other s theories to explain the unexplainable. His focus throughout the text is to
hypothesize on how regression, resistance, and censorship all play a delicate role in the remembrance
and interpretation of ones dreams. It is Freud s skillful application of resistance and censorship that
grants further contemplation of why dreams are so soon to fade and be forgotten upon awakening. It is
also this application that guides the reader into how these two processes may require one to use free
association to interpret such dreams. Resistance and censorship are explained by Freud as a cognitive
process that happens due to the separation of the waking and sleeping mental states. He presents the
idea that while one sleeps, the cognitive censorship used throughout waking hours is significantly
reduced, making dreams possible. However, immediately present upon awakening is mental
resistance, resulting in the forgetting or fragmenting of dreams. These symptoms are

Homeric Values In Electra By Euripides
Throughout the play Electra by Euripides there are many instances of the author using the character
Electra to attack homeric values. Homeric values are values expected of a hero. These values include
birth, social status, martial virtues, courage, physical strength, and skill in things such as planning,
organizing, and making war. Homeric culture was very important at one point. Many times throughout
this play, the character Electra says something she believes about another character that goes along
with/are invested with the homeric values. Euripides then has that character do the very opposite to
almost everything Electra claims. Electra is being used as a symbol to criticize the customs and
traditions of homeric values. Each time she is contradicted it is an insult to the homeric values.
One example of this is found in the second episode of the play. The Old Man shows up at Electra s
house after passing by Agamemnon s grave. He tells her how he noticed a sacrifice on Agamemnon s
alter and tells her that he believes Orestes is there is disguise. This infuriates Electra and she responds
to him by saying:
What your saying makes you sound stupid, old man, if you think my brave brother has come to the
country in secret out of fear of Aegisthus. ( Euripides 26).
With this she is saying her brother is too brave to hide. This is a normal thing expected in a homeric
culture. Men/heroes are supposed to be brave and have the courage to fight. This is soon contradicted
when she

Richard Lederer The Case For Short Words Summary
A lot of the time in the world today we believe bigger is better, but is it truly? Short words and how
they are superior to the long is explained in the simplistic style he shares in Mr. Richard Lederer s

comes across quickly and in other cases more meaningful. After all the world is big so when we can
make things small why don t we go ahead and try. Mr. Lederer shows us through his own experiences
how short words can make for a more impactful meaning. How the simplicity can bring beauty to a

The Pros And Cons Of Spanking
Spanking has become an arguably debatable form of discipline. According to a study at the University
of Texas, the more children are spanked, the more likely they are to defy their parents ( Spanking: Pros
and Cons ). There is a connection between spanking during the childhood and mental health diagnoses
later in life. There are other options of discipling your child than spanking them, especially because all
children can take spanking differently. Parents should not spank their child because it showers that
being stronger is right, demonstrates that older people have a right to hit younger people, and gives the
examples that violence solves all problems. One main reason why spanking isn t correct is because it
shows children that being the stronger one is right. When physical punishment is used to show a child
that they have done something wrong, an unintended message is sent to the child stating that
whomever is bigger and stronger determines what is right and what is wrong ( 10 Reasons Why You
Shouldn t Spank Your Kids ). Oftentimes, the stronger one being right leads to your child determining
what is right when he/she is stronger than you are. Therefore, if you spank your child, when they get
older they will believe to think that being the stronger one, they are allowed to hit those who are
weaker or younger than them. If your child is the oldest sibling, your child may believe that they will
be able to hurt their younger siblings when they do something wrong, just as they were disciplined
when they were a child. Another reason why a parent shouldn t spank their child is because it
demonstrates that older people have a right to hit younger people ( 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn t
Spank Your Child ). Through being spanked, the child learns that older and bigger people have the
right to hit younger and smaller people. This becomes even more confusing for a child when they are
being disciplined for hitting someone. When your child attends elementary school, the idea that your
child is able to hit someone younger than them at recess because the other child is on the swing your
child wanted to swing on will lead to more trouble down the line. Your child is now in the principal s
office for hitting another

Developmental Disabilities And The Most Common Motor...
It s always exciting to see a baby blowing you a kiss and giving you a wave bye bye. Actions like
these make our hearts melt. These actions are known as developmental milestones, which are achieved
in the way children play, learn, speak, behave, and move. All children develop at their own pace; one
might learn to walk before they re a year old and another might learn to walk when they re a little
older. As exciting as it is to see a baby walk for the first time, it doesn t always happen. It isn t rare for
a child to have a developmental disorder. Developmental disorders are not commonly spoken about,
however one in six children have one or more developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy being the
second most common (Facts About Developmental Disabilities) and the most common motor
disability in childhood (CITATION). The truth of the matter is, everyone is most likely going to
encounter someone who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, or might even have a child with this
developmental disorder and it s important to be aware and informed on the most effective ways to help

Developmental disorders are a group of conditions due to an impairment in physical, learning,

throughout a person s entire life. Cerebral palsy, the second most common developmental disorder,

The Political Stream is made up of many different aspects public mood, pressure group campaigns,
election results, ideological distributions in Congress, and changes of administration. These

The Evolution Of Human Speech
The Evolution of Human Speech
As human we can communicate via our speaking ability to express our feelings, as a way to deliver
the message we want another. These articles that I read discuss the anatomical prerequisite for humans
to gain the ability to speak such as the absent and present of the air sac in hominids. Morphological
changes of the face structure such as the reduced growth of the palate and the descent of the larynx.
The controversial hypotheses of the hypoglossal canal size are indicative of speech, and modern
humans have a larger hypoglossal canal size compare to other hominids were examined. These are just
the anatomical aspects of the possible contribution to the human speech.
The first paper, the study done by Bart de Boer involves the loss of air sacs serves as possible
evidence to why modern humans can produce complex language. The fact that air sacs are present in
apes and absent in modern humans and Homo neandethalensis is the interesting piece to why we and
the Neandethal are capable speak to speak and the others cannot. To investigate further to see how
early humans and Homo neandethalensis did not have air sacs, an experiment was set up using a
hearing procedure to show if air sacs reduce the perceptual effect of vowel articulations (de Boer
2012). The methods for this study were done by 22 human participants were gathered in a soundproof
room and have them listen to the different vowels produce through the air tubes with or without air

Impact Of Imperialism In Korea
Japanese Imperialism in Korea and Korea s Police/Military Era As I stood on a mountain pass, looking
down on the valley leading to Inch Con, I recalled these words of my friend. The Ôstrong hand of
Japan was certainly being shown here. I beheld in front of me village after village reduced to ashes.
Destruction, thorough and complete, had fallen upon it. Not a single house was left, and not a single

Imperialism is when another nation forcefully takes control of another nation. In the 19th and 20th
century, many European powers were trying to get colonies in countries in Africa and Asia. In order to
do so, they needed to imperialize countries. Japan was the first Asian nation to defeat western

Metaphors In A Raisin In The Sun
Lorraine Hansberry considered lines from two Hughes poems to title her play A Raisin in the Sun.
Both Poems, Mother to Son and Harlem, connect to the play, however, Mother to Son is the better one
because there is much more content talked about in this poem. The struggle the mother went through
is crazy. The fact that she isn t broken down and that she tries to support her child shows a lot. Mother
and son have some connections. They are identical in many ways, but mostly on how outspoken the
mothers are with their sons shows the connection. In the poem Mother to Son , the mom talks to her
son about how life hasn t been easy for her. She uses the metaphor, Life for me, aint been no crystal
stair in reference to her life. This connects to A raisin in the sun and how sometimes Ruth couldn t
provide all the things that she wanted to for travis. Another metaphor lena uses is And places with no
carpet on the floor
Bare. But all the time, I se been a climbin on, . This shows that sometimes lena had to live in
conditions with bare feet on the floor. It was pretty harsh and yet she survived. This connects to A
raisin in the sun, Travis would ask Ruth for money and Ruth wouldn t have the money to supply. Ruth
would feel like she is a bad mother and still tries to help. Her husband comes in and supports and this
shows that the family is still pushing even when they are in bad conditions. Another way that shows

Introduced in 1963, the product is still sold today, however its sales have dwindled since the

where the Island got its name. It is thought that its Native American name was Sictem Hackey, which

what was called the Seal Islands. Some historians have also suggested that the name Fire derived from

Fire Island remained in the Smith family up until 1900. Prior to 1900 there were no year round
residents on the Island with the exception of the Lighthouse keeper and a few fish factory workers and
a handful of squatters. Other than the Surf Hotel there were only a few buildings that were used during
the summer as bars and restaurants for those who would sail across the bay for a day at the beach and
the occasional clambake. The first large house ever to be built was constructed in 1795 in Cherry
Grove by Jeremiah Smith, Smith was believed to have set fires to lure ships to sand bars just off shore
and kill the crews The Surf Hotel which was located just east of the Lighthouse was an expansive
building built on 120 acres of land that David Sammis owned, or so he thought a battle over the
ownership of this land went on for years in court with Sammis winning. Sammis built the hotel in
1856 and by 1880 the hotel boasted rooms for 1500 guests. The Surf was host to many politically
connected players in government be it local, city, state, and some federal, as well as the well off from
the region. The Southside Rail Road soon to be known as the Long Island Rail Road came to Babylon
in 1867 and the town was dubbed the gateway to Fire Island, which has since been bestowed on the
town of Bay Shore. The guests of the hotel would take a stage coach for the four mile journey to the
Bay Shore docks. It is assumed by a

Argumentative Essay On Homelessness In Australia
The issue of homelessness in regard to shelter in Australia has been prevalent for an extended period
of time in the 21st century. Homelessness is the situation in which individuals are unable to attain a
permanent and adequate quality of shelter. Shelter is a human right as stated under article 25 of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which specifies Housing as part of the standard of living
required for an individual to maintain their wellbeing. Australia s law specifies no legal right to
shelter, however as a party of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights
(ICESCR), the Australian government must recognise that all individuals should be entitled to an
adequate standard of living for themself and their family , where one criteria is adequate housing as
stated in article 11. It is imperative that in order to fulfil both Australia s obligation to uphold human
rights and maintain social cohesion within society both legal and non legal responses are effective in
dealing with both the causes and effects of homelessness.
Homelessness is an issue which stems from a large range of external factors which by themselves are
difficult to address. One such contemporary factor in NSW regarding homelessness is the affordability
of adequate shelter with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting the median price in Sydney to be $1.15
million. This has made it harder for individuals to afford homes which are adequate as per the
requirements of article 11

part of a Confederacy know as the Iroquois Confederacy. The Iroquois Confederacy also known as the
Haudenosaunee was a peace agreement and alliance between five different tribes (six after 1722) that

Essay on The Hard-Boiled Detective
The movie The Maltese Falcon is about a private investigator who is striving to unravel the mystery
surrounding a black enamelled bird known as the Maltese Falcon. Samuel Spade, the protagonist of
the story, is what was known as a hard boiled detective. Men such as that rarely show a tender side (if
they have one). Likewise, they are physically tough, frequently resorting to guns or fists to get what
they want. In addition, they tend to be amoral, yet with an inflexible code of honour of their own. The
first element of the persona of the hard boiled detective is the fact that they rarely show an affectionate
side. Throughout the entire movie, Sam Spade acts in a careless and nonchalant manner. Nothing
bothers him and he doesn t seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Maltese Falcon, Sam never carries a gun. However, he does use his fists a number of times.
When Cairo comes to his office the first time, he pulls a gun on Sam. Spade then disarms him and
knocks him out in order to search him. Later on, in his apartment, he slaps Cairo when he refuses to
cooperate. Finally, he disarms Wilmer in the hotel just to show that he has control. Like most of the
hard boiled detectives of this era, Spade uses aggression to fulfill his goals. The third attribute of the
hard boiled detective is that they are often amoral. Sam Spade certainly fits this criteria. To begin, we
find out that he is having an affair with his partner s, Miles Archer, wife. That, however, is just the
beginning. After Miles dies Spade wants nothing more to do with Mrs. Archer and continually pushes
her away. He shows no loyalty to anyone other than himself. He is not upset at his partner s death.
Instead, he treats it like any other murder case. He acts with coldness towards other people and does
what helps him instead of applying to the moral code that most people use. Finally, the hard boiled
detectives of this era also had an inflexible code of honour themselves. Sam Spade, though often
insensitive and selfish, does have honour. First of all he give the police the money he takes from
Gutman as a bribe to use as evidence against the four criminals. Secondly, he turns Brigit in. This is

Once the plan is laid out, each department will be responsible for acknowledging how the changes
could cause a negative impact and what could be done to prevent an excessive amount of downtime.
Each department should elicit input from their employees to get the broadest range of opinions and

What is Pure, is FamilyOne of the most memorable epics known to man tells the greatest story of pure

purity himself throughout his life by defeating all that is evil. Evil exists in various forms including
Grendel, Grendel s mother, dragons, cold leftovers, sickness, etc. Grendel the demon, possessor of the
moors, is the worst of the worst. Beowulf is a hero of many men. He could be compared to many
nurses in todays time. Soldiers/heroes are meant to save people, and nurses do save people each and

Thor And Odin Comparison
We can characterize this conversation as expressions of power and strength between two gods. If the
connection between the name Harbard name and Odin s is right, then the fight is a representation of
the tensions between two powerful gods. The two men have accomplished great feats in the past and
try to outdo each other. The duel is showing similarities, differences and tensions between these two
gods. Both gods have some similarities in terms of power but some differences are also shown in the
conversation. Odin is shown as more ruthless than Thor. He smirks are more cunning. He mocks Thor
many times throughout the poem. Odin (Harbard) mocks Thor s about his wife and her lover. He

Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy is more commonly known to...
Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy is more commonly known to humans as Mad Cow Disease or
BSE. BSE originated from scrapie or Endemic Spongiform Encephalopathy, which is a disease that
has affected mostly sheep and goats. BSE is an illness that attacks the brain and spinal cord of adult
cattle due to an infection by a transmissible agent known as a prion. Once affected by BSE cattle
began to develop strange behavior such as aggression, lack of coordination with the inability to stand
or walk, and abnormal posture; hence the name Mad Cow Disease (1).
Why BSE Should Be Eradicated
BSE is a fatal disease
BSE has been seen to progress very slowly in relation to other diseases, however is very contagious
and fatal for not only cattle, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of what many refer to as the domino effect, 90% of those infected will suffer a death within
one year (4).
Can BSE be Eradicated
A Tough Road Ahead
BSE is an extremely rare disease making it a very tough candidate for eradication. This is especially
true in humans; while still rare, BSE is much more common in cattle rather than humans. It is also
very tough to conduct studies with the rapid progression of the disease and the short lifespan of those
infected. Because the cattle commonly infected are vastly spread out between multiple countries, this
adds yet another obstacle to overcome when attempting to eradicate BSE in cattle and in return
eradicating vCJD in humans. Even with the obvious and difficult complications facing the
extermination of this disease the government and scientists have outlined a few ways to slow down the
progression and transmittal of BSE (5).
What Can Be Done Steps to Eradication
Despite the incredibly hard process ahead to eradicate BSE and vCJD here are the steps that have
already been put into place to begin the procedure. In July of 1988 a feed ban was introduced as the
key animal health control measure. The feed ban is thought to prevent the integration of conceivably
infectious material into animal feed for ruminants, and to prevent uninfected cattle from becoming ill.
The FDA decided to strengthen the 1988 rule in 1997 and 2008 by barring the use of high risk cattle
tissues in all animal feed.

In the fourth quarter the team found that complaints have again fallen given the data collected which would indicate that the staff has regained performance and is operation better in this quarter with the same being true in the last quarter. As a result, of the results in the data and given the findings that performance decreased in the later quarter, the team believes that employees that are much better suited for handling the increase. The decrease in complaints resulted from gathered information throughout the quarters. Managers were able to see different trends and were able to gather complaints from diners throughout the quarter. Upon compiling all the information together, the manager of Blue Bowl was able to make significant changes and continue with training thus the reason for the steady decrease. A random sample over the course of a few weeks produces 91 surveys or customer complaint cards. The observations produced a mean of x= 26.1 and a standard deviation to s= 2.8. Since the sample size is large the standard formula will be used. The equation will be 26.1 + and 1.960 2.8 / the square root of 91. • 3. Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy s Speech In 1962, The United States of America was fighting off financial ruin and the Vietnamese, as well as powerful business leaders. Spikes in the price of iron and wages for iron workers threw the unsteady economy, back in the hole. The President at the time, John F. Kennedy, made a speech to the United States citizens concerning these issues. He used many techniques to get his point across, such as a powerful vocation, an appeal to patriotism, and factual data. President Kennedy s uses a great deal of factual evidence to prove his point. He uses numerical data and fact based predictions statistics, to appeal to the audience s sense of common reasoning. The nmber make the argument easier to agree with because numbers are usually taken as facts not tainted by emotion or human will. When talking about the steel workers unions in lines 46 to 74, President Kennedy uses it a direct quotation from a report by a federal agency. Economics And The International System Running head: CHINA: WHERE IT S BEEN AND WHERE IT S GOING 1 China s Economy: Where it s been, and where it s going An Analysis and Literature Review Norwich University Author Note This paper was prepared for GD530 Economics and the International System, taught by Professor Snow CHINA: WHERE IT S BEEN AND WHERE IT S GOING 2 Abstract The purpose of this essay is to show how the economy of China has, and is changing, becoming the second largest economy in the world today. Although China is currently under the leadership of Xi Jinping, this essay will concentrate primarily on the actions undertaken by then President Mao Zedong, followed by then President Deng Xiaoping, (sans mention of Hua Guofeng). Given the relative infancy of Xi s assumption of power, economic policies still remain largely rhetorical in form. Likewise, the majority of literature concerning economic policies under Xi are largely speculative, often citing strategies and ambitions as opposed to thereby, lacking a solid basis for rational induction In addition to China s lack of transparency, In addition, it will be shown that the methodology behind the Chinese economy demonstrates the implementation of varying levels of the characteristics associated with the schools of Realism, Marxism and Liberalism. Thus, China s approach to global trade in the 21st Century is pluralistic, testamentary to the failed economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Does Delillo Present The Fear Of Death In White Noise The fear of death is one of the most prominent themes in White Noise. Everything in the novel from Hitler to the toxic airborne event circles back to how human beings are subconsciously afraid of dying. DeLillo s novel displays how life attempts to push this fear away, almost saying out of sight, out of mind . Yet, as we see in the characters of Jack and Babette, the fear continues to rear its ugly head and fill them with terror. DeLillo shows this close relationship between life and death. He could be trying to show how death lingers dangerously in the background of our lives. The toxic event changed the way Jack Gladney feared death. Not only did it make his fear worse, but it made him absolutely terrified of it. During the event, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could be based on the fact that no matter who you are or what you do, death is inevitable. I believe that Jack relates to a Hitler like persona because he relates to this idea of life credit . When Jack is talking to Murray, Murray mentions that to kill another person is to gain life credit. The more people you kill, the more credit you store up (DeLillo pg. 277). This is similar to Hitler, from my own knowledge, I already know that Hitler thought the more people he killed the more power he would gain and the more invincible he would feel. Jack seems to have the same mindset because he thinks killing a man will give him more time. He is almost trying to cheat death and outlive the chemical inside of him. I feel like Jack thinks that if he kills someone, he gains whatever years they had left. As any rational person would know, this is just simply impossible, but Jack seems to believe this illusion is his ticket to maximizing the time he has left. The common theme between these two passages is that death is an inescapable process. I found it very interesting that the toxic event happened before Jack shot Willie Mink. The toxic event only made it more clear to Jack that he is going to die because of his chemical exposure, however it also hastened his dying process. This is why I find it so strange that Jack tried to kill Mr. Mink. From my understanding, Jack was under the impression that killing someone would extend his life, however he knows that he ... He had always refused, describing the pain that you go through when they inevitably pass away. When she was in eighth grade, after years of asking, her father finally caved in. The Baileys decided to get a golden retriever from a breeder in town. They went together and picked out a dog to buy. Before the dog was old enough to be picked up by the Baileys, it died from an unknown cause. The breeder apologized and allowed them to choose another from the same litter. With their playful puppy Andy finally at home, Carol could not be happier. She spent hours each day playing with him, walking him, and even trying to teach tricks to him, although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One option is to cut out the popular sire effect and close breeding and to limit the amount of line breeding. Breeders should switch out dogs instead of sticking to one sire or one pair of dogs, as it limits the diversity of the genes. Another option that is becoming more popular is breeding two purebreds together to create a hybrid breed like the Labradoodle, which is a cross between a Labrador retriever and a poodle. This option adds variety to the gene pool while also keeping some traits from both breeds. This option, like any, is not 100% effective because dog breeds can have common health problems. If dogs are bred after doing research on the common health problems, it can result in a healthy mixed breed with a more diverse gene pool. While there is no certain way to get rid of all health problems associated with inbreeding, other than to stop putting value on purebreds altogether and moving toward mutts, steps to prevent further inbreeding must be taken to improve the quality of life for future generations of purebred ... Reflecting on Religious Expression and School Prayer Essay This country is comprised of individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic groups, sexual orientations, and faith traditions. Whether it relates to race, class, religion or any other category where one resides in the dominant group, it is tempting not to become oppressive and fail to show mutual respect to the diverse cultures and beliefs of other groups. Furthermore, as educational leaders, we must be equipped with knowledge around policies related to the above mentioned, so that we can enforce such and build upon those that need refining. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any school promotion or endorsement of a student s private religious activity is unconstitutional. There have been various acts across schools within this country to discriminate and demean students within schools because they follow faith traditions different than that of the dominant group. Thus, it is important to realize that though as a school body one cannot endorse or promote one religion or faith tradition over another, as educational leaders we also should not engage in discrimination and disrespect for faith believes that do not align with ours or allow other students and staff to engage in such. Rather we must work to promote multicultural acceptance and mutual respect, celebrating the rich diversity among all individuals and groups. Landmark Cases There are three landmark cases most relevant to the discussion on religious expression and school prayer. Engle v. Vitale is a case where the Court held that recitation of a prayer composed by the New York State Board of Regents, which was to be said in the presence of a teacher at the beginning of school each day, was unconstitutional and in violation of the Establishment Clause. The huge shortage in and around the capital meant a significant lack of event loos everywhere else. Despite Glastonbury being one of the biggest festivals in the world, alongside the likes of Coachella in LA and Roskilde in Denmark, they own only half of the mobile loos they actually need resulting in them needing to hire the rest. • 11. The History Of Interracial Marriage Social norms have long been dictated by racism. Prior to the Loving v. Virginia Supreme Court Case in 1967, it was socially acceptable for certain states to dictate which race of people one could marry from. For example, in many southern states, it was illegal for a white man to marry a black woman. It was not until the Loving v. Virginia case reached the Supreme Court in 1966 that the constitutionality of these laws was considered. The Loving v. Virginia case erupted when Richard and Mildred Loving were arrested when they returned to their house in Caroline County, Virginia after traveling to Washington D.C. to get married (Newbeck and Wolfe). Prior to the Supreme Court ruling that laws preventing interracial marriage were unconstitutional, interracial marriages were extremely rare. However, after this ruling was made, the popularity of interracial marriages began to slowly climb. Sadly, despite the increase in popularity, social acceptance of these marriages had not increased until the last twenty years (Rosentiel). According to PEW Research, a notorious research company based in Washington D.C., interracial couples are becoming more widely accepted than they were in 1967. Today, Nearly four in ten adults say...people marrying someone of a different race is good for society. (Bailik). A Social Examination On The Cold War Brittany O Neill May Paper Elaine Tyler takes a social examination on the war against communism in the book, Homeward Bound: American Families in the Cold War Era. May portrays the idea that the nuclear family structure was a way to amplify resistance against communism. The exterior threat of communism during the postwar and the Cold War era caused for interrelationships within marriages to become a longer and more stable environment. Compared to the previous book we read as a class, May takes a deeper look into history and finds geopolitical reasoning for the events of the postwar age. The interpersonal that May connects to the Cold War era allows for the reader to gain a broader concept of how society affected change. His topics are broad and give a clear overview of the Cold War. He looks upon the leaders of the Cold War, including Joseph Stalin, Ronald Reagan, Nikita Khrushchev and others to find reasoning on the outcome of the Cold War. (Spencer, 1878, p.57) What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing. It also depends on what sort of person you are . (Lewis, 1994, p.108) The mathematics teacher builds examples into their arsenal of resources to help demonstrate the mathematical principles they are trying to teach (Dreyfus, 1994). However, not all examples are equally constructed and provide the same learning experience to the learner. • 15. Sunlight And Sunlight Sunlight and shade can have effects on how the way turf grasses and weeds grow in lawns. Sunlight is make ultraviolet radiation, and certain types of UV radiation can cause harm to turf gasses by. Ultraviolet radiation all depends on what wavelengths the turf grasses can handle, the wavelengths average from 400 280nm (Huylenbroeck and Bockstaele, 2001). Turf grasses start to form adaptations to help survive in these conditions, by producing high amounts of chlorophyll, and having other characteristics change to help better preform in the conditions. Shade is also a benefactor when it comes to the turf grasses health. With excessive amounts of shade, objects are preventing the turf to get the nutrients it needs from the sunlight to survive. Without the nutrients the turf will start to obtain smaller roots, reduced shoots, and be introduced to diseases (Busey and Davis, 1991). Shade can also be preventing water access to the turf grass. Types of grass are considered to be shade tolerable like the fine fescues, and the rough bluegrass (Harper, 2013). The conditions of where turf grass is found in order to maintain its health. Sunlight includes ultraviolet radiation, which can harm turf grass. Ultraviolet radiation is split into three different categories based on their wavelengths, UV A, UV B, and UV C. UV A has a wave length of 400 315nm, and is the least harmful to turf grass. UV B has a wave length of 315 280nm, and is responsible for getting through the ozone layer and is the most harmful UV light to turf grass. UV C has a wavelength of 100 280nm, but this wavelength never reaches the earth. The smaller the wavelength the more energy, and radiation with higher energy can penetrate deeper into the cells, causing more damage (Huylenbroeck and Bockstaele, 2001). Over exposure to ultraviolet radiation can be harmful to grasses and weeds, by damaging the grasses DNA, its proteins, lipids and membranes. With over exposure to ultraviolet radiation, grasses can undergo mutations when reproducing. Mutations are however, mostly negative, inhibiting vital cellular processes (DNA transcription and replication) and resulting in disturbed cellular function, sometimes even cell death (Busey and Davis, 1991). Encompassed within the scope of discrimination is the pertinent subject matter, Discrimination Against Homosexuals in Today s Youth. As the dynamic generation of the current world grows exponentially vocal with their standpoints, certain folds in the society today express their negative outlook pertaining to homosexuals, leading to the ostracized generalization of the already shunned minority. Dr. Friedman M (2014) emphasizes that although considerable gains have been made in the acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) into the general community, biasness is still prevalent and has very notable mental health consequences. This is due to the fact that homosexuals generally receive greater amounts of discrimination than heterosexuals (American Journal of Public Health 2011). A succinct paradigm to this includes a recent study which showed that homosexuals are more likely to commit suicide as a result of discrimination, when compared to heterosexual. This disparity is due to the discrimination and prejudice faced by homosexuals (DeAngelis 2002, Vol 33, No.2, Pg46). Adefiranye Abstract For profitability and liquidity, companies need adequate finances. Finance stakeholders (that is, shareholders, creditors and other financial lenders) are the providers of these finances. Their interests and beliefs in the activities of the companies are required to make them invest. A recent share investments survey in Lagos and Abuja, involving 100 respondents covering investors and prospective investors (60 and 40 respondents respectively), revealed that 70 percent of the investors place heavy reliance on the integrity of a company s auditor before investing in that company. 80 percent of the prospective investors chose never to advance money of whatever form to any company because they have lost confidence in audit firms. This, they hinged on the fact that companies, despite their stunning performance reports attested to by audit firms, still go bankrupt. Using questionnaires and interviews, we gathered relevant data from investors, prospective investors, audit firms and some financial institutions (banks) for this study. We analysed these data using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis tools. It was discovered that there is a very strong link between audit and finance stakeholders

  • 27. The Interpretation Of Dreams By Sigmund Freud Some dream big, some dream small, and sadly some dream not at all The Interpretation of Dreams was published by Sigmund Freud in the year 1900 as a thought provoking compilation of ideas surrounding the cognitive processes of dreaming. Although this book has been translated and edited since its original publishing date, it reads as if to hold true to Freudian fashion; addressing levels of consciousness and their effects on how specific dreams are formed. Freud makes a clear and reverent effort to acknowledge other s theories to explain the unexplainable. His focus throughout the text is to hypothesize on how regression, resistance, and censorship all play a delicate role in the remembrance and interpretation of ones dreams. It is Freud s skillful application of resistance and censorship that grants further contemplation of why dreams are so soon to fade and be forgotten upon awakening. It is also this application that guides the reader into how these two processes may require one to use free association to interpret such dreams. Resistance and censorship are explained by Freud as a cognitive process that happens due to the separation of the waking and sleeping mental states. He presents the idea that while one sleeps, the cognitive censorship used throughout waking hours is significantly reduced, making dreams possible. However, immediately present upon awakening is mental resistance, resulting in the forgetting or fragmenting of dreams. These symptoms are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Homeric Values In Electra By Euripides Throughout the play Electra by Euripides there are many instances of the author using the character Electra to attack homeric values. Homeric values are values expected of a hero. These values include birth, social status, martial virtues, courage, physical strength, and skill in things such as planning, organizing, and making war. Homeric culture was very important at one point. Many times throughout this play, the character Electra says something she believes about another character that goes along with/are invested with the homeric values. Euripides then has that character do the very opposite to almost everything Electra claims. Electra is being used as a symbol to criticize the customs and traditions of homeric values. Each time she is contradicted it is an insult to the homeric values. One example of this is found in the second episode of the play. The Old Man shows up at Electra s house after passing by Agamemnon s grave. He tells her how he noticed a sacrifice on Agamemnon s alter and tells her that he believes Orestes is there is disguise. This infuriates Electra and she responds to him by saying: What your saying makes you sound stupid, old man, if you think my brave brother has come to the country in secret out of fear of Aegisthus. ( Euripides 26). With this she is saying her brother is too brave to hide. This is a normal thing expected in a homeric culture. Men/heroes are supposed to be brave and have the courage to fight. • 30. The Pros And Cons Of Spanking Spanking has become an arguably debatable form of discipline. According to a study at the University of Texas, the more children are spanked, the more likely they are to defy their parents ( Spanking: Pros and Cons ). There is a connection between spanking during the childhood and mental health diagnoses later in life. There are other options of discipling your child than spanking them, especially because all children can take spanking differently. Parents should not spank their child because it showers that being stronger is right, demonstrates that older people have a right to hit younger people, and gives the examples that violence solves all problems. One main reason why spanking isn t correct is because it shows children that being the stronger one is right. When physical punishment is used to show a child that they have done something wrong, an unintended message is sent to the child stating that whomever is bigger and stronger determines what is right and what is wrong ( 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn t Spank Your Kids ). Oftentimes, the stronger one being right leads to your child determining what is right when he/she is stronger than you are. Therefore, if you spank your child, when they get older they will believe to think that being the stronger one, they are allowed to hit those who are weaker or younger than them. If your child is the oldest sibling, your child may believe that they will be able to hurt their younger siblings when they do something wrong, just as they were disciplined when they were a child. Another reason why a parent shouldn t spank their child is because it demonstrates that older people have a right to hit younger people ( 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn t Spank Your Child ). Through being spanked, the child learns that older and bigger people have the right to hit younger and smaller people. This becomes even more confusing for a child when they are being disciplined for hitting someone. When your child attends elementary school, the idea that your child is able to hit someone younger than them at recess because the other child is on the swing your child wanted to swing on will lead to more trouble down the line. Both Poems, Mother to Son and Harlem, connect to the play, however, Mother to Son is the better one because there is much more content talked about in this poem. The struggle the mother went through is crazy. The fact that she isn t broken down and that she tries to support her child shows a lot. Mother and son have some connections. They are identical in many ways, but mostly on how outspoken the mothers are with their sons shows the connection. In the poem Mother to Son , the mom talks to her son about how life hasn t been easy for her. She uses the metaphor, Life for me, aint been no crystal stair in reference to her life. This connects to A raisin in the sun and how sometimes Ruth couldn t provide all the things that she wanted to for travis. Another metaphor lena uses is And places with no carpet on the floor Bare. But all the time, I se been a climbin on, . This shows that sometimes lena had to live in conditions with bare feet on the floor. It was pretty harsh and yet she survived. This connects to A raisin in the sun, Travis would ask Ruth for money and Ruth wouldn t have the money to supply. Ruth would feel like she is a bad mother and still tries to help. Her husband comes in and supports and this shows that the family is still pushing even when they are in bad conditions. Another way that shows how mother to son is relatable to a raisin in the sun is in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduced in 1963, the product is still sold today, however its sales have dwindled since the introduction of Diet Coke. The Coca Cola Company also produces a number of other soft drinks including Fanta and Sprite. Fanta s origins date back to World War II when Max Keith, who managed Coca Cola s operations in Germany during the war, wanted to make money from Nazi Germany but did not want the negative publicity. Keith resorted to producing a different soft drink, Fanta, which proved to be a hit, and when Coke took over again after the war, it adopted the Fanta brand as well. The German Fanta Klare Zitrone ( Clear Lemon Fanta ) variety became Sprite, another of the company s bestsellers and its response to 7 Up. During the 1990s, the company responded to the growing consumer interest in healthy beverages by introducing several new non carbonated beverage brands. Fire Island, A Historical Overview Essay Fire Island, A Historical Overview Rhythmic waves, high dunes, ancient maritime forests, historic landmarks and glimpses of wildlife Fire Island has been a special place for diverse plants, animals and people for centuries The origin of Fire Island s name is not quite clear; there are many stories as to where the Island got its name. It is thought that its Native American name was Sictem Hackey, which translated means Land of the Secatogues , an Indian tribe in Bay Shore, New York. It was also part of what was called the Seal Islands. Some historians have also suggested that the name Fire derived from a misinterpretation of the Dutch word vijf ( five ) or in another version vier ( four ) referring to the number of islands ... Prior to 1900 there were no year round residents on the Island with the exception of the Lighthouse keeper and a few fish factory workers and a handful of squatters. Other than the Surf Hotel there were only a few buildings that were used during the summer as bars and restaurants for those who would sail across the bay for a day at the beach and the occasional clambake. The first large house ever to be built was constructed in 1795 in Cherry Grove by Jeremiah Smith, Smith was believed to have set fires to lure ships to sand bars just off shore and kill the crews The Surf Hotel which was located just east of the Lighthouse was an expansive building built on 120 acres of land that David Sammis owned, or so he thought a battle over the ownership of this land went on for years in court with Sammis winning. Sammis built the hotel in 1856 and by 1880 the hotel boasted rooms for 1500 guests. The Surf was host to many politically connected players in government be it local, city, state, and some federal, as well as the well off from the region. The Southside Rail Road soon to be known as the Long Island Rail Road came to Babylon in 1867 and the town was dubbed the gateway to Fire Island, which has since been bestowed on the town of Bay Shore. • 42. Argumentative Essay On Homelessness In Australia The issue of homelessness in regard to shelter in Australia has been prevalent for an extended period of time in the 21st century. Homelessness is the situation in which individuals are unable to attain a permanent and adequate quality of shelter. Shelter is a human right as stated under article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which specifies Housing as part of the standard of living required for an individual to maintain their wellbeing. Australia s law specifies no legal right to shelter, however as a party of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), the Australian government must recognise that all individuals should be entitled to an adequate standard of living for themself and their family , where one criteria is adequate housing as stated in article 11. It is imperative that in order to fulfil both Australia s obligation to uphold human rights and maintain social cohesion within society both legal and non legal responses are effective in dealing with both the causes and effects of homelessness. Homelessness is an issue which stems from a large range of external factors which by themselves are difficult to address. One such contemporary factor in NSW regarding homelessness is the affordability of adequate shelter with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting the median price in Sydney to be $1.15 million. This has made it harder for individuals to afford homes which are adequate as per the requirements of article 11 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Essay on The Hard-Boiled Detective The movie The Maltese Falcon is about a private investigator who is striving to unravel the mystery surrounding a black enamelled bird known as the Maltese Falcon. Samuel Spade, the protagonist of the story, is what was known as a hard boiled detective. Men such as that rarely show a tender side (if they have one). Likewise, they are physically tough, frequently resorting to guns or fists to get what they want. In addition, they tend to be amoral, yet with an inflexible code of honour of their own. The first element of the persona of the hard boiled detective is the fact that they rarely show an affectionate side. Throughout the entire movie, Sam Spade acts in a careless and nonchalant manner. Nothing bothers him and he doesn t seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Maltese Falcon, Sam never carries a gun. However, he does use his fists a number of times. When Cairo comes to his office the first time, he pulls a gun on Sam. Spade then disarms him and knocks him out in order to search him. Later on, in his apartment, he slaps Cairo when he refuses to cooperate. Finally, he disarms Wilmer in the hotel just to show that he has control. Like most of the hard boiled detectives of this era, Spade uses aggression to fulfill his goals. The third attribute of the hard boiled detective is that they are often amoral. Sam Spade certainly fits this criteria. To begin, we find out that he is having an affair with his partner s, Miles Archer, wife. That, however, is just the beginning. After Miles dies Spade wants nothing more to do with Mrs. Archer and continually pushes her away. He shows no loyalty to anyone other than himself. He is not upset at his partner s death. Instead, he treats it like any other murder case. He acts with coldness towards other people and does what helps him instead of applying to the moral code that most people use. Finally, the hard boiled detectives of this era also had an inflexible code of honour themselves. Sam Spade, though often insensitive and selfish, does have honour. First of all he give the police the money he takes from Gutman as a bribe to use as evidence against the four criminals. Secondly, he turns Brigit in. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

BSE originated from scrapie or Endemic Spongiform Encephalopathy, which is a disease that has affected mostly sheep and goats. BSE is an illness that attacks the brain and spinal cord of adult cattle due to an infection by a transmissible agent known as a prion. Once affected by BSE cattle began to develop strange behavior such as aggression, lack of coordination with the inability to stand or walk, and abnormal posture; hence the name Mad Cow Disease (1). Can BSE be Eradicated A Tough Road Ahead BSE is an extremely rare disease making it a very tough candidate for eradication. This is especially true in humans; while still rare, BSE is much more common in cattle rather than humans. It is also very tough to conduct studies with the rapid progression of the disease and the short lifespan of those infected. Because the cattle commonly infected are vastly spread out between multiple countries, this adds yet another obstacle to overcome when attempting to eradicate BSE in cattle and in return eradicating vCJD in humans. Even with the obvious and difficult complications facing the extermination of this disease the government and scientists have outlined a few ways to slow down the progression and transmittal of BSE (5). What Can Be Done Steps to Eradication Despite the incredibly hard process ahead to eradicate BSE and vCJD here are the steps that have already been put into place to begin the procedure. In July of 1988 a feed ban was introduced as the key animal health control measure. The feed ban is thought to prevent the integration of conceivably infectious material into animal feed for ruminants, and to prevent uninfected cattle from becoming ill. The FDA decided to strengthen the 1988 rule in 1997 and 2008 by barring the use of high risk cattle tissues in all animal feed. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
