First and foremost Disney s Hercules is based off Greek mythology but in a very
friendly so that the myth can be presented to a variety of different audiences in this
case kids which is the reason to why the myths and the characteristics of the
characters had to be modified so that it could be child friendly. Since the movie is
based on the Greek myth Hercules there will still be some similarities between this

In The Scarlet Letter, author Nathaniel Hawthorne portrays Hester s daughter Pearl as
a unknowingly mischievous child that is in some way always adding to Hester s
ultimate guilt and punishment of her past sin. In the story a young, beautiful woman,
Hester Prynne, committed a sin which was a very serious offense against the Puritan
community. Hester had many different forms of punishment such as guilt, shame,
standing on a scaffold in the village, and the scarlet letter. After the initial shock of
the sin the people became less interested in how Hester lived her life, but she is still
constantly reminded of the misconduct of her past actions through her daughter.
Pearl is a constant reminder of the scarlet letter and Hester s sin because she is a
source of judgement, her personality reflects the sin itself, and because of her
isolation from many people of the Puritan religion.
Pearl is the type of child that has a lot to say about everything. Many of the things
she says should be reprimanded by her mother, but Hester is often reminded that
Pearls actions are most likely a reflection of being a product of her own sin. This
frequently keeps Hester from saying anything at all to Pearl. Even though Pearl is
unaware, she is very judgmental. When they were walking in the forest she
happens to unintentionally judge Hester by bringing up the scarlet letter. Pearl
says to her, Mother, the sunshine does not love you. It runs away and hides itself,

Religion has always been, and will continue to be, a unique element within society.
There are many different things one can put their faith into. The Hollow Men written
by T.S. Eliot examines faith, or rather the deterioration of faith, within society.
Conversely, My Son the Fanatic written by Hanif Kurishi considers the consequences
of containing too much faith. Both works deem religion to be a necessary part of life
in separate ways. Although these texts agree that faith must remain significant with
society, the texts show their argument in strikingly different ways. Eliot exemplifies
the chaos triggered by the absence of faith in society through the style of his writing
which differs greatly from Kurishi s. In addition, Eliot uses fragmented imagery to
convey the chaos caused from the loss of faith while Kurishi uses syntax and diction
to display that too much faith can consume a person.
