The Story Of Stone Mother
Group 1, Question B The story of Stone Mother functions both as an origin and etiological story
because it provided a sense of values and explained the phenomena of nature s creation in time. It s
amazing to analyze how certain landmarks in nature were created based upon the stories that were
passed down through generations. The story shared the value of family and to appreciate the
connection that exists between people and nature. If one does not acknowledge each others
characteristics and the world around us, certain choices may lead to regrets later on in life. For
example, the children were separated and sent to opposite sides of their mother homeland ( Stone
Mother, pg 11 12) due to discipline actions. Since the children left, the parent remained in their
original location but were very sad and heartbroken when they learned about the band returning to
fight the remaining groups ( Stone Mother, pg 12). Overall, the important idea that this story wanted to
provided is that any connections always exists among humans as well as the nature that surrounds us if
we take the chance to appreciated each other existence. Group 2, Question C Two examples of
trickster stories from this week s reading were Coyote Wants to Be Chief and Bunding Host . Both of
the stories teach valuable life lessons, but they each have different perspectives on what was needed to
be presented. In the Coyote Wants to Be Chief story, Coyote accidentally fell asleep and missed his

Lakeland s Little Learners
When I was perhaps seven years old, surely no more than eight, I spent much of my summer at the
local daycare; Lakeland s Little Learners was it s name. I knew a lot of the kids there before I started
attending (which I had been doing for a few years at this point) because we had all previously gone to
another daycare in town, this one called Little Thinkers. However, due to parents not paying their
children s dues, (I dimly recall a vague understanding of a card checkout system indicating various
forms of payment each night, and watching many parents not bother to mark it) it was shut down, and
so we were all relocated to Lakeland s Little Learners. One of the friends I was delighted to become
reaquainted with at the new daycare was a boy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To most people, it was just children grabbing toys, but to me, it was the first time I saw the true nature
of people, my first encounter with a group mentality so unlike my own. To this day I still think that the
reason I remember it so much is because my friend, James, who I had known for so long and so well,
became a faceless member of a party that had no regard for what was right and wrong. They only saw
what they wanted up for the taking, and took it, immediately forgetting and invalidating the pride and
effort that had previously gone into earning those prizes. To me it will always be one of the saddest
moments I ever had the misfortune to watch, because James hesitating, looking at me, and then
turning into the crowds is a heartbreaking reminder that anyone can change in a second, even the
kindest and most steadfast people can do the wrong thing. Really, the prize box was a lot like Golding
s conch because it was a sign of order which was obliterated by the enveloping evils of a few. There
are always going to be a few bad apples the ones who started stealing in the first place, for instance.
But what truly shocked me was that this time, it was everyone, not just a few, who took the wrong turn
and made the wrong choice. They gave into what I can deem as no more than deplorable, petty
thievery. Everything my

Bostongal Valley Mission Command
The Korengal valley Afghanistan was deemed the deadliest place on earth. Second Platoon and
Captain Dan Kearney of B Company, 2/503 Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade spent 15
months fighting a relentless Taliban insurgency within that valley. The overall mission was to clear the
valley of insurgency and gain the trust of the local people. Shortly after arriving, Captain Kearney
established an observation post named Restrepo on the high ground near his combat out post in the
Korengal Valley. From 2007 until 2008 second Platoon made some gains and loss several soldiers
throughout the deployment. The outpost was eventually retrograded in April of 2010 because of the

From a mission command standpoint, there were missteps and Captain Dan Kearney along with 2nd
Platoon displayed good mission command by his ability to direct his troops, build his understanding of
the area of operations but fell short in visualizing the battle space with actions that prevented the
populace from fully cooperating. Captain Kearney s immediate Mission Command Philosophy was to
stop the daily fire fights by staying aggressive with the enemy and engaging the local elders to gains
their trust. He used his close air support and artillery to allow some freedom of maneuver and attended
weekly meetings with the village elders convey his commander s intent. The three main components
of Mission Command used were his personnel, information systems, and processes and procedures.
The latter of which helped him gain a true understanding of the situation. The original plan was to
provide enough security and stability to allow the construction of a paved road for easy passage to the
south of their location. With the weekly shuras showing no signs of progress and the local s

Geostationary Satellite Essay
Optimizing the Bands in Geostationary Satellite Internet When it comes to each of the three main
bands, the Ka band, the Ku band, and the L band, we know that since they have a range of different
frequencies, they can therefore be optimized to work more efficiently. This can be done by three other
important characteristics. These would be bandwidth, the power of the signals used, and the quality of
the data transmission. The bandwidth can be utilized where there is currently outdated hardware such
as the modem or the receiver on a ground satellite or a geostationary satellite. When it comes to the
power of the signal, this can be increased which would help in the sending and receiving of data.
Finally, to improve the quality of the data, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Geostationary Satellite Internet Airline speed
On the flip side, the satellite internet provided in airlines is still slower than what the wired
counterpart offers. This was apparent in 2008 when one of the first Wi Fi s used on an airline had an
initial speed of 3 Mb which worked for that time. However, with the current technology of smart
phones and tablets, the demand for greater speeds is needed in order for passengers to be able to use
these devices efficiently. Today, speeds for geostationary satellite internet on airlines are around 12
Mbps, which is better than before but, still not as quick as wired internet. The price of the
geostationary satellite internet is still increasing but this is mainly due to the hardware associated with
having a stable connection. This is including but not limited to the antennas that increase the drag and
this in turn increases fuel costs for airlines. Adding on engineering costs along with maintenance,
these add up which the passengers of the airlines end up paying extra for ( How does in flight Wi Fi
work?, 2017).

Environmental Protection Agency ( Epa ) Federal Agents
Should Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) federal agents be able to carry firearms? Roberto
Pastrana CRJU 4930 Wednesdays 4.30 P.M. 9.00 P.M. Georgia State University Abstract While
interning at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at Criminal Investigation Division (CID)
many of the EPA agents are faced with decisions/ life threatening situations that are affected due to
firearms. The central point for this essay is whether EPA federal agents should be able to carry
firearms. Some of the people/criminals they have to come in counter with have a prior history in the
criminal justice system. This meaning dealing with a variety of people with weapons, and criminal,
violent records. The purpose of this paper is to determine if EPA federal agents actually need to carry
firearms. The purpose is also to raise awareness to the public that just because the agents deal with
federal environmental violations that they are being out sourced by violent offenders, as well as
providing resources to better equip the future of federal EPA agents. Facts and Background about EPA
Agents Did you know EPA has a federal criminal Investigation division with a 90% conviction rate?

Theme Of Nature In Huck Finn
Life on the river for Huck and Jim is very peaceful. Jim built a snug wigwam to keep their belongings
dry, they could just lay looking up at the sky, and they good weather. Huck says, We catched fish and
talked, and we took a swim now and then to keep off sleepiness (Twain, 64). The river provided Huck
and Jim many things, not only food, but also a way to escape. For Huck, the river provided him an
escape from his life with his father and the Widow. For Jim, the river provided an escape from being a
slave. On the river they were both free from their past lives. Mark Twain, in The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, shows us how nature can offer an escape from society s restrictions and evils. Even
though nature has changed immensely since this book was written, it still provides an escape from
society. In today s world, nature can be utilized as a thinking place or as a place to recover from pain.
There are many more themes that we can see in today s society. Several themes of Huck Finn are still
relevant today, including Nature offers an escape from society s restrictions and evils, People tend to
act cruelly or irrationally in groups, and Discrimination causes pain and suffering for many people .
One theme in Huck Finn that is still present in today s society is Nature offers an escape from society
s restrictions and evils . In the book, Huck escapes living with Pap to live on Jackson s Island. Pap is
Huck s father, a dangerous alcoholic who hurts him. Huck sleeps

This essay will discuss the reasons, choices and considerations behind the creation of our group
newsletter, Manaakitanga. It will involve relevant theories to support my following reflective essay,
including research on document design and group dynamics.
The rationale of our Manaakitanga newsletter is for all members across the twenty one branches of
Hospitality New Zealand, informing them about new topics, and sharing the most recent and latest
news within Hospitality NZ (New Zealand) for the employees to read. Manaakitanga is an internal
newsletter for employees, sharing the changes, achievements, the news and events that have a broader
appeal, keeping the interest alive for the readers (Kent, 2011).
First of all the content of Manaakitanga involves an interview, Early morning starts on a winning
streak , secondly an article on What is coming up in the summer months , thirdly a spotlight story on
one of Christchurch s most popular restaurants, and last of all a story on New Zealand s drinking
culture and a calendar of events highlighting important up coming courses and events for employees
to attend to.
The interview featured on page four of Manaakitanga is significant to Hospitality NZ because as we
know the Rugby World Cup is occurring at the moment and The Sale and Supply of Alcohol

A character in the book who showed the most bravery and potential would have to be Albus Severus
Potter, who is Harry Potter s younger son who got in the Slytherin house. Albus in the story didn t
accomplish the goals his father did in school but instead he became his own person and followed his
own goals instead of his father s and his goal was to go back in time and bring back Cedric Diggory,
and he had the idea of going into the Ministry and getting the time turner which takes a lot of courage.
Albus severus Potter is defined as the protagonist of the story because of his action to go back in time
and save Amos Diggory s son who was murdered by Lord Voldemort in the Triwizard Tournament in

Dealing With Breakups
Breakups are something that people go through all the time. It is something that can be painful and
difficult to go through. This is why it is important to know how to deal with the problem as opposed to
reacting to the breakup in a way that makes the process even harder to go through. However, when
you re mourning from a broken relationship, you need to make sure that you avoid a couple things that
totally go against the entire breakup etiquette rules.
Mistake #1 Pretend You Are Fine
After a breakup, don t act like you are fine. Give yourself time to mourn, or punch a pillow, cry, write
in your journal and tell your friends exactly how you feel. The temptations might be to just pretend
that you are totally unaffected regarding the breakup, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you do this, not only will you be disconnected from your ex, but it will make your entire
physical appearance from the public quite negative. You need to fully distance yourself from your ex
and everyone who knows him or her, so dating their friends shouldn t be an option.
Mistake #9 Starting Useless And Meaningless Relationships
Randomly dating people and sleeping with them may temporarily heal your wounds, but it definitely
won t help you fully cope. If you want to start a relationship, it must be when you are completely over
your ex, because if not, you will just be hurting yourself and the person or the people you decide to be
with.
Mistake #10 Seek Revenge
Don t try to break down your ex s car, or teepee their house. Never do something that can cause you
legal trouble and a restraining order. If you are hurting, deal with it through venting out on your
friends and not on your ex. The temptation of revenge won t feed anything but your bitterness. You
might have been betrayed, but revenge won t heal your wounds. Move on, it really is the best thing to

How To Write An Egg Drop Machine Essay

things. Okay my machine design is a basic kinda roll cage for the eggs that we use. And on a day to

Okay drag is basically like when you throw a rock or anything and it s attached to a balloon and or
something that kinda floats and it goes down slower . Air resistance plays a massive point in dropping
items because sometimes if the item that your dropping is big it might fall faster because the air doesn
t have enough power for the item. One way that I think will help the impact is to put rubber bands on
all the sides and lift the roll cage for the egg a bit higher than the bottom of the machine so it won t hit

Personal Philosophy Of Missions
Missions is a complex, multilayered calling that then has several layers of philosophy within it. It is
not like an onion that you peel layers back one at a time to find deeper layers within it, but it is more
like an orange, with separate slices that come together to create a complete, holistic piece of fruit. If a
slice gets removed, it still might look and taste like an orange, but it is not quite complete. In the same
way, missions has many slices to it and removing one does not make the others less missional, but
perhaps less complete under the umbrella, or peel, of missions. There are three primary slices that I
would like to address here which are, personal philosophy of mission, corporate philosophy of
mission, and the locale of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

how incredibly tranquil he was (O Brien,19).
So when Ted Lavender got shot in his head, he got his mind blown for the last time, now the phrase
mind blown has many meanings, it depends on the context and how it s used the definition of it is
when something shocking happens and the mind isn t able to comprehend it, or whenever Lavender
would smoke marijuana to calm himself down because he gets scared, and then there s its literal

The Price Of Rent Prices And Increase The Supply Of Rental...
The concept of negative gearing is a difficult one to make decisions on. This is owing to the fact that,
as much as it should, in theory, lower rent prices and increase the supply of rental properties, it
certainly doesn t seem to be the case in the Australian property market. The government s position, as
stated by the Honourable Mathias Cormann, Minister for Finance, is to, presently, not make any
changes.
... the government has absolutely no plans to make any changes to negative gearing... [because] if you
are going to reduce the supply of private rental properties, you will push up the cost of rents and you
will reduce housing affordability... .
However, to not make any changes to negative gearing does not seem to be helping the property
market, nor the government, but seemingly neither will abolishing it. By abolishing negative gearing
deductions, the government could run the risk of causing defaults, bankruptcies, and emergency sales
as investors struggle or fail to make ends meet with their negatively geared properties, causing
properties to flood the housing market and a reduction in the number of rental properties available.
Nevertheless, to leave it unchanged allows high marginal tax rate investors to continue to minimise
their tax, at the expense of the government, by purposely negatively gearing their investment
properties. A change needs to be made to the negative gearing policy and perhaps the most equitable
way is to look at and change the Capital Gains Tax

How Does Voltaire Use Satire In Candide
The concept that everything in the universe follows an immaculate plan is one that is often criticized.
Voltaire wrote Candide to ridicule the philosophical teachings of Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz, that
is, the concept that all is for the best. He creates his satire through the use of characterization. He
models two of the main characters to directly ridicule Leibniz and one who follows or accepts his
teachings. He uses his plot to disprove the theory that everything is for the best and to point out the
many dark happenings of the universe. He combines these foundations of the piece with many literary
techniques and devices to convince his audience that Leibniz is a fool and that surely there are
happenings in the world that are not for the best. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He published philosophical works that discussed evil and the idea that this is the best of all possible
worlds (O Connor and Robertson). In his piece Monadology he states that there is nothing chaotic and
nothing confused in the universe (10). This is to say that everything in the universe has a defined
purpose. He goes on to say that soul and body each follow their own laws; and are in agreement in
virtue (Monadology 11). This is suggesting that while the mind and the body have different laws one
has logic while the other follows instinct they are unified in their purpose that has been previously
defined by the deity. He finished his hypothesizing by stating everything must work out for the benefit
of the good (Monadology 12). These key points of Leibniz s philosophy act as the focus of Voltaire s

When Cybersecurity Policy Is Discussed The Topics Often
When cybersecurity policy is discussed the topics often focus on technology, corporate culture, and
security awareness. The success of an organization in defending its most valuable asset, data, depends
on the proper implementation of several security practices. Ensuring that the human aspect of cyber
security is addressed is vital, for the culture of an organization can greatly impact both the security
posture and defense of information networks.
This paper addresses the human aspects responsible for SCADA System vulnerabilities and provides a
holistic solution to ensure a solid defense. Then we will explore Zero day exploits and how they are

The NIST, in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), establish performance
goals that should be met to enhance cybersecurity (The White House, 2013). Because compliance is
voluntary, the standards set by the NIST came from industry best practices to appease private
operators and ensure that the cybersecurity of the nation s critical infrastructure was improved through
compliance. SCADA Systems are pervasive throughout our nation s critical infrastructures which
govern many aspects of the population s daily life. Travel, the movement of goods, essential utilities
and basic life sustainment necessities are all dependent on properly functioning SCADA Systems.
Executive order 13636 ensures that SCADA systems are integrated with and function in conjunction
with other devices that report real time health of operations. Should these systems be compromised,
national security would be placed at risk. An example of vulnerable infrastructure are Very Small
Aperture Terminals (VSATs) which are used for remote transmission of credit card transactions, and
the transfer of data from SCADA systems to government classified systems (Storm, 2015). If these
VSATs are compromised, they provide

Sex Abuse And Sex Offenders
Sex offenders can be described as a person who has committed any of a variety of offenses, including
rape, child abuse, possession of child pornography, exhibitionism (flashing), and even consensual sex
amongst teenagers. They can vary between adults or juveniles, male or female, and the perpetrators
may even be strangers, acquaintances, or related to their victims. Based on the different characteristics
and motivations for committing these heinous offenses, these offenders require different responses that
are appropriate in order to accurately treat, manage, and supervise them. This research paper will
review types of offenses and offenders; pervasiveness of sexual abuse and recidivism; and responses
to sexual offending, including treatment, supervision, and management practices for this population.
There is a long history of rape and rape culture. Over the years history has changed the definition of
rape because it was too broad and different jurisdictions interpreted it differently to disenfranchise
certain victims. Rape is defined by Webster Dictionary as to seize and take away by force. Legal
definition of rape is nonconsensual sexual intercourse that is committed by physical force, threat of
injury, or other duress. Common law defines rape as unlawful intercourse by a man against a woman
who is not his wife, by force or threat and against her will. The new definition states rape as
penetration, no matter how slight of the vagina or anus with any body part

I Got Trapped By My Own Success Essay
Alexander Weygers lived a life of creative adventure on an income so low it never interested the
Internal Revenue Service. He continually complained that man s essential failure was to know when
enough was enough, and he used the line at which he would need to write a check to the IRS as his
definition of enough. There was one occasion, though, when he flirted with that line. I got trapped by
my own success, he said. Weygers dalliance with the tax man came in the late 1950s when he traded a
piece of sculpture for an Exacta single lens camera. It was a particularly cold winter on the Monterey
Peninsula. Toward the conclusion of a trip to a junkyard in Salinas, heavy sleet began to fall. As he
waited in the bed of his truck for the storm to pass, Weygers picked up the camera that happened to be
beside him and began taking super close up photos of the raindrops on the windshield. The clouds
eventually parted and rays of light pierced the droplets, causing a refraction in his lens. Weygers
hurried home and began playing with light refractions on leaves and frozen over chuckholes. He then
raced to the beach, taking similar zoomed in shots of a piece of seaweed and an ant colony. The result
was a never before seen, free form photography or artography, as Weygers termed it. In his studio, he
would suspend drops of water from the bottom side of a sheet of glass. Then, using a macro lens he
created himself, Weygers would look into the inside of the raindrop and

Personality As Predictor, Personality, And General Knowledge
Personality as Predictor
According to Kluemper, Bing, and McLarty (2014), a person s reputation is based on their past
experiences. Also, managers use a person s past performance to predict the person s future
performance. This essay provides a definition of a measure and discusses how leaders measure the
personality trait of employees to explain their job performance. Also, how managers use
organizational past performance to predict future performance. Also, the paper describes how leaders
use employees personality trait to predict future job performance. Next, the paper explains how using
G and personality for predicting performances. Last, the essay discusses how the finding from an
employee s personality trait and general knowledge is used to make hiring decisions.
Measurement of Performance
A measure is a standard that leaders use as an indicator to test the consistency and stability of a worker
under constant and stressful conditions (Eisend Stokburger Sauer, 2013). The success of an
organization is contingent upon the employees performances. In Hassan, Akhtar, and Yilmaz (2016)
article on measuring the personality trait of workers, they discovered that employees with the
conscientiousness trait outperform their counterparts in overall job performance. Hassan et al. (2016)
described conscientiousness as one that is orderly, neat, prompt, meticulous, and organized. Hassan

Music And Its Impact On Music
Since the early days of human existence, sweet sounds of music have brought joy to the human race.
However, throughout time, music seems to have taken a bit of a detour as progress is concerned.
Music gradually became more complex and advanced as the centuries progressed. On the other hand,
recently, music seems to have deviated from its steady ascension toward the next, more advanced
stage. Has there been a recession in the complexity and overall magic of music? Personally, I believe
that there is a lot of truth to this concept of relapse . Over the course of musical expression, inventions
of different instruments and music theory concepts were created and used to benefit the science and
progression of music through time. Throughout each period of music that we studied, the music
changed based on the culture and the technology that was prevalent within its respective time period.
Music found in the baroque period, for instance, is very complex and involves the use of several
different musical voices. When we look at a lot of the mainstream music of modern day, it is very easy
to realize that we have definitely taken a step backwards. Nowadays, the popular musical artworks
that are being released lack complexity or any kind of variation at all. Modern pop music has really hit
a stand still. One of the most characteristic aspects of a modern pop song is the repetition that is used
throughout most songs. Honestly, anyone who has a decent ear for music

Evolution or Revolution
Evolution or Revolution? Recurring themes, ideas and conventions in the dramas of Ibsen, O Neill and
Shepard.
Throughout the history of drama, playwrights have appropriated the ideas of their predecessors for
their own use, sometimes building on them and making the idea their own. American drama is no
exception. American drama has its roots firmly entrenched in modern European drama, this is
illustrated through the influence of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen on American playwright
Eugene O Neill. O Neill once wrote, quot; Not long ago I read all of Ibsen s plays again. The same
living truth is there. Only to fools with a superficial eye cocked to detect the incidental can they have
anything dated or outworn about them. As dramas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
WESTON: Some guy. Looked respectable. Talked a real good line. Said it was an investment for the
future. All kinds of great things were going to be developed. Golf courses, shopping centers, banks,
sauna baths. All that kinda stuff. So I bought it. quot; (Curse of the Starving Class p.158).
This illustrates how this convention, mastered by Ibsen, remains unchanged as it is passed down from
generation to generation. Shepard claims in his biography that he quot;never read Ibsen quot;
(Schewey p.110), therefore if Shepard did not appropriate this idea from Ibsen it is logical to assume
that he appropriated it from O Neill whom he has already openly declared his debt to. This is an
example of a Modern European convention having a direct influence on American drama.
Another idea that remains relatively unchanged through the course of recent history is that of heredity.
Heredity is a theme that features strongly in Ibsen s Hedda Gabler as Ibsen himself states in a letter to
the Count Moritz Prozor, quot; The title of the play is Hedda Gabler [italics mine]. My intention in
giving it this name was to indicate that Hedda as a personality is to be regarded rather as her father s
daughter than as her husband s wife. quot; (ds.dial.pipex.com). This heredity is emphasised
throughout the play. O Neill uses the idea of heredity to good effect in both Long Day s Journey into
Night and Desire Under the Elms, in Long Day s Journey into Night, Edmund becomes the focal

the diet of most people. This is primarily because of the price. However, an option that we can take
here is to try to find some local shops that sell out cheap but quality produce.
Farmers market is also another option that can give you low prices as compared with the supermarkets
and groceries. Making this big leap is not only a major benefit to your health but also it can extend the
shelf life of the products; this will in turn lower down the potential of wasting.
There are still other ways that you can do in order to eat healthy and smart. A lot of online suggestions
are also given. And take note that trying to make a healthy diet that you want to achieve overnight is
impossible. When you try to change everything that you were used to, and doing it all at once is like
cheating on yourself, too. Gradually but surely is more likely.
Remember that healthy or smart eating do not have to be totally expensive and luxurious. All you need
to do is some proper planning and going out of your way to look for healthy and practical options.,

An example is the Beauty and the Beast as fans construct their own meanings from the film and they

Renaissance Knights Research Paper
The knights were the warriors of the time period in between the fall of Rome and the beginning of the
Renaissance, also known as the Middle Ages. Knights had to undergo years of training starting as a
young boy. Though they were well trained, knights still needed protection. To protect themselves,
knights would wear complex armor that usually took over an hour to put on, and often needed the help
of his squire. In order to fight well, they needed strong weapons. A knight s weapons were sharp and
durable. In France, England, and Germany, knights defended their lords
Usually if a boy s father was a knight or was of a noble family, he would automatically become a
knight. Sometimes, if a man proved that he was good on the battlefield, he was pronounced a knight.
Young boys, usually age seven, were sent to castles or to wealthy people s houses. There, they would
start their training. The ranks of a knight in training showed how long he had been working towards
knighthood. The ranks are from least to greatest: page, squire, and knight. From age seven to fourteen,

Civic Mirror Analysis
Authorization is an imperative component for any society. Civic Mirror taught our class the necessity
for bureaucracy in today s life. Government enforces correct behavior in organizing every individual
for further equality. In civic mirror, Congress composed laws to reinforce civility. If citizens acted
against this reinforcement, a trial would be held. In addition to emphasized legislation, administration
of necessary goods also justifies the importance for government. The provided prices for essentials
were very inexpensive compared to the private marketers. The primary action the authority takes is
implementing God given rights. In the taught simulation, every individual was granted the right to a
fair trial, for every case required an impartial jury. The importance of government is integral in the
provision of necessary guidance to its citizens as shown through Civic Mirror.

Commonplace Book Analysis
A little over three months ago, I, along with thousands of other freshmen, embarked on a scary, yet
exciting new chapter in our lives. Most of us, myself included, thought that we were well prepared for
our first classes as college students. If I were asked what I had learned during college, I would have a
hard time stating anything other than useless facts related to my classes. My commonplace book
includes posts from throughout the semester that express my progression as both a student and a
person.
While I was rereading entries from my commonplace book, I was reminded of the dejected feeling
that I had at the beginning of each unit. It was almost amusing to me to see how fearful I was of each
project and then see how I gradually progressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first tag is learning . It may seem obvious but I learned so much about not the only the writing
process, but in my self too. Nearly all of my entries in the commonplace book discuss some lesson
that I learned from the time when I figured out MLA format to when I finally realized how to revise
the style of my papers. The second tag is Fear of Failure . One of my favorite quotes is from Gena
Showalter that says Giving up is the only sure way to fail . One of my biggest problems throughout
the semester was being discouraged right from the beginning, which I talked about in each unit
reflection. Once I overcame the fear of screwing up the project, I was finally able to get to work and
spit out some pretty good material. My third tag is Resiliency . I thought about combining resiliency
and fear of failure but the more that I thought about it, I realized that they were completely different.
Resiliency deals with the extreme amount of effort that I put into each any ever piece that I brought to
class even though I would rather be doing literally anything else. It also covers all of the times when I
had no clue what I was doing and had to start over from scratch, even though I could have easily
turned in a piece that would have received an okay grade. Differences is my fourth tag. The idea of
differences first came to me when we were working on the Op Doc analysis and each had videos that
were all polar opposites of each other. Not only were the styles of our Op Docs different, but so were
the styles in which we wrote our analyses. In high school we learn how to do everything just like one
another, but in college we finally open our eyes and see that being different is what makes us who we
are. My final tag is Creative Edge . It took me to the late half of the semester to finally find my
creative edge. Because it took me so long to find it, I had started to think that

While improving the fortitude and technology of an army is beneficial to the soldiers, it negatively
impacts society. The continual innovation in weapons and armor will only provoke further warfare.
According to Medieval Warfare by Terence Wise, Edward was not slow to appreciate the value of the
longbow and he raised and trained a large corps of archers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Terence Wise concludes that each innovation leads to another corresponding innovation, which is a
valid notion even in today s society. Throughout the text, he describes how developments in armor led

with this notion regarding the domino effect of inventions, but he delves deeper into the

  • 3. The Story Of Stone Mother Group 1, Question B The story of Stone Mother functions both as an origin and etiological story because it provided a sense of values and explained the phenomena of nature s creation in time. It s amazing to analyze how certain landmarks in nature were created based upon the stories that were passed down through generations. The story shared the value of family and to appreciate the connection that exists between people and nature. If one does not acknowledge each others characteristics and the world around us, certain choices may lead to regrets later on in life. For example, the children were separated and sent to opposite sides of their mother homeland ( Stone Mother, pg 11 12) due to discipline actions. Since the children left, the parent remained in their original location but were very sad and heartbroken when they learned about the band returning to fight the remaining groups ( Stone Mother, pg 12). Overall, the important idea that this story wanted to provided is that any connections always exists among humans as well as the nature that surrounds us if we take the chance to appreciated each other existence. Group 2, Question C Two examples of trickster stories from this week s reading were Coyote Wants to Be Chief and Bunding Host . Both of the stories teach valuable life lessons, but they each have different perspectives on what was needed to be presented. In the Coyote Wants to Be Chief story, Coyote accidentally fell asleep and missed his chance to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Lakeland s Little Learners When I was perhaps seven years old, surely no more than eight, I spent much of my summer at the local daycare; Lakeland s Little Learners was it s name. I knew a lot of the kids there before I started attending (which I had been doing for a few years at this point) because we had all previously gone to another daycare in town, this one called Little Thinkers. However, due to parents not paying their children s dues, (I dimly recall a vague understanding of a card checkout system indicating various forms of payment each night, and watching many parents not bother to mark it) it was shut down, and so we were all relocated to Lakeland s Little Learners. One of the friends I was delighted to become reaquainted with at the new daycare was a boy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To most people, it was just children grabbing toys, but to me, it was the first time I saw the true nature of people, my first encounter with a group mentality so unlike my own. To this day I still think that the reason I remember it so much is because my friend, James, who I had known for so long and so well, became a faceless member of a party that had no regard for what was right and wrong. They only saw what they wanted up for the taking, and took it, immediately forgetting and invalidating the pride and effort that had previously gone into earning those prizes. To me it will always be one of the saddest moments I ever had the misfortune to watch, because James hesitating, looking at me, and then turning into the crowds is a heartbreaking reminder that anyone can change in a second, even the kindest and most steadfast people can do the wrong thing. Really, the prize box was a lot like Golding s conch because it was a sign of order which was obliterated by the enveloping evils of a few. There are always going to be a few bad apples the ones who started stealing in the first place, for instance. But what truly shocked me was that this time, it was everyone, not just a few, who took the wrong turn and made the wrong choice. They gave into what I can deem as no more than deplorable, petty thievery. Everything my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Bostongal Valley Mission Command The Korengal valley Afghanistan was deemed the deadliest place on earth. Second Platoon and Captain Dan Kearney of B Company, 2/503 Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade spent 15 months fighting a relentless Taliban insurgency within that valley. Geostationary Satellite Essay Optimizing the Bands in Geostationary Satellite Internet When it comes to each of the three main bands, the Ka band, the Ku band, and the L band, we know that since they have a range of different frequencies, they can therefore be optimized to work more efficiently. This can be done by three other important characteristics. These would be bandwidth, the power of the signals used, and the quality of the data transmission. The bandwidth can be utilized where there is currently outdated hardware such as the modem or the receiver on a ground satellite or a geostationary satellite. This was apparent in 2008 when one of the first Wi Fi s used on an airline had an initial speed of 3 Mb which worked for that time. However, with the current technology of smart phones and tablets, the demand for greater speeds is needed in order for passengers to be able to use these devices efficiently. Today, speeds for geostationary satellite internet on airlines are around 12 Mbps, which is better than before but, still not as quick as wired internet. The price of the geostationary satellite internet is still increasing but this is mainly due to the hardware associated with having a stable connection. This is including but not limited to the antennas that increase the drag and this in turn increases fuel costs for airlines. This is owing to the fact that, as much as it should, in theory, lower rent prices and increase the supply of rental properties, it certainly doesn t seem to be the case in the Australian property market. The government s position, as stated by the Honourable Mathias Cormann, Minister for Finance, is to, presently, not make any changes. ... the government has absolutely no plans to make any changes to negative gearing... However, to not make any changes to negative gearing does not seem to be helping the property market, nor the government, but seemingly neither will abolishing it. By abolishing negative gearing deductions, the government could run the risk of causing defaults, bankruptcies, and emergency sales as investors struggle or fail to make ends meet with their negatively geared properties, causing properties to flood the housing market and a reduction in the number of rental properties available. Nevertheless, to leave it unchanged allows high marginal tax rate investors to continue to minimise their tax, at the expense of the government, by purposely negatively gearing their investment properties. There was one occasion, though, when he flirted with that line. I got trapped by my own success, he said. Weygers dalliance with the tax man came in the late 1950s when he traded a piece of sculpture for an Exacta single lens camera. It was a particularly cold winter on the Monterey Peninsula. Toward the conclusion of a trip to a junkyard in Salinas, heavy sleet began to fall. The clouds eventually parted and rays of light pierced the droplets, causing a refraction in his lens. Weygers hurried home and began playing with light refractions on leaves and frozen over chuckholes. He then raced to the beach, taking similar zoomed in shots of a piece of seaweed and an ant colony. The result was a never before seen, free form photography or artography, as Weygers termed it. In his studio, he would suspend drops of water from the bottom side of a sheet of glass. • 30. Music And Its Impact On Music Since the early days of human existence, sweet sounds of music have brought joy to the human race. However, throughout time, music seems to have taken a bit of a detour as progress is concerned. Music gradually became more complex and advanced as the centuries progressed. On the other hand, recently, music seems to have deviated from its steady ascension toward the next, more advanced stage. Has there been a recession in the complexity and overall magic of music? Personally, I believe that there is a lot of truth to this concept of relapse . Over the course of musical expression, inventions of different instruments and music theory concepts were created and used to benefit the science and progression of music through time. Throughout each period of music that we studied, the music changed based on the culture and the technology that was prevalent within its respective time period. Music found in the baroque period, for instance, is very complex and involves the use of several different musical voices. When we look at a lot of the mainstream music of modern day, it is very easy to realize that we have definitely taken a step backwards. Nowadays, the popular musical artworks that are being released lack complexity or any kind of variation at all. Modern pop music has really hit a stand still. One of the most characteristic aspects of a modern pop song is the repetition that is used throughout most songs. Honestly, anyone who has a decent ear for music ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Evolution or Revolution Evolution or Revolution? Recurring themes, ideas and conventions in the dramas of Ibsen, O Neill and Shepard. Throughout the history of drama, playwrights have appropriated the ideas of their predecessors for their own use, sometimes building on them and making the idea their own. American drama is no exception. American drama has its roots firmly entrenched in modern European drama, this is illustrated through the influence of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen on American playwright Eugene O Neill. O Neill once wrote, quot; Not long ago I read all of Ibsen s plays again. The same living truth is there. Only to fools with a superficial eye cocked to detect the incidental can they have anything dated or outworn about them. As dramas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... WESTON: Some guy. Looked respectable. Talked a real good line. Said it was an investment for the future. All kinds of great things were going to be developed. Golf courses, shopping centers, banks, sauna baths. All that kinda stuff. So I bought it. quot; (Curse of the Starving Class p.158). This illustrates how this convention, mastered by Ibsen, remains unchanged as it is passed down from generation to generation. Shepard claims in his biography that he quot;never read Ibsen quot; (Schewey p.110), therefore if Shepard did not appropriate this idea from Ibsen it is logical to assume that he appropriated it from O Neill whom he has already openly declared his debt to. This is an example of a Modern European convention having a direct influence on American drama. Another idea that remains relatively unchanged through the course of recent history is that of heredity. Heredity is a theme that features strongly in Ibsen s Hedda Gabler as Ibsen himself states in a letter to the Count Moritz Prozor, quot; The title of the play is Hedda Gabler [italics mine]. My intention in giving it this name was to indicate that Hedda as a personality is to be regarded rather as her father s daughter than as her husband s wife. quot; (ds.dial.pipex.com). This heredity is emphasised throughout the play. O Neill uses the idea of heredity to good effect in both Long Day s Journey into Night and Desire Under the Elms, in Long Day s Journey into Night, Edmund becomes the focal ... A knight s weapons were sharp and durable. In France, England, and Germany, knights defended their lords Usually if a boy s father was a knight or was of a noble family, he would automatically become a knight. Sometimes, if a man proved that he was good on the battlefield, he was pronounced a knight. Young boys, usually age seven, were sent to castles or to wealthy people s houses. There, they would start their training. The ranks of a knight in training showed how long he had been working towards knighthood. The ranks are from least to greatest: page, squire, and knight. • 40. Commonplace Book Analysis A little over three months ago, I, along with thousands of other freshmen, embarked on a scary, yet exciting new chapter in our lives. Most of us, myself included, thought that we were well prepared for our first classes as college students. If I were asked what I had learned during college, I would have a hard time stating anything other than useless facts related to my classes. My commonplace book includes posts from throughout the semester that express my progression as both a student and a person. While I was rereading entries from my commonplace book, I was reminded of the dejected feeling that I had at the beginning of each unit. It may seem obvious but I learned so much about not the only the writing process, but in my self too. Nearly all of my entries in the commonplace book discuss some lesson that I learned from the time when I figured out MLA format to when I finally realized how to revise the style of my papers. The second tag is Fear of Failure . One of my favorite quotes is from Gena Showalter that says Giving up is the only sure way to fail . One of my biggest problems throughout the semester was being discouraged right from the beginning, which I talked about in each unit reflection. Once I overcame the fear of screwing up the project, I was finally able to get to work and spit out some pretty good material. My third tag is Resiliency . I thought about combining resiliency and fear of failure but the more that I thought about it, I realized that they were completely different. Resiliency deals with the extreme amount of effort that I put into each any ever piece that I brought to class even though I would rather be doing literally anything else. It also covers all of the times when I had no clue what I was doing and had to start over from scratch, even though I could have easily turned in a piece that would have received an okay grade. Differences is my fourth tag. The idea of differences first came to me when we were working on the Op Doc analysis and each had videos that were all polar opposites of each other. Not only were the styles of our Op Docs different, but so were the styles in which we wrote our analyses. In high school we learn how to do everything just like one another, but in college we finally open our eyes and see that being different is what makes us who we are. My final tag is Creative Edge . It took me to the late half of the semester to finally find my creative edge. Because it took me so long to find it, I had started to think that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
