The Challenges Of Buying Healthy Food
After we spitted our tasks separated into 2 groups we quickly get an Uber in order to get to our
destination without wasting any time. During the interview process, the most surprising thing
(moments) about it was the amount of people participating. After me and my teammates spent about 5
minutes standing in front of Safeway we approach one of the costumer walking out from Safeway s
exist, she was carrying 2 groceries bags, so almost immediately we walked up to her in order to ask
her a simple questions that we had prepared. The funniest yet saddest respond back was Sorry, I really
don t have time to stop and the bags are very heavy. The lady slowly walked away from us, after we
got rejected we immediately changed us way to approach people. Instead of asking the people walking
in and out with 2 3 long questions, we switch to short and simple questions; for example what are the
challenges from buying healthy food? or What is stopping you from buying or eating healthy food and
products? etc. While we conducting the interview, we realized that the shorter the simpler the
questions, the more effective the interview. When we start interviewing people with long questions,
lots of people tented to hesitate on answering, some even walk away after the first question. After we
change our strategy and questions into shorter and simpler, people turn out to be more interested in
answering and more collaborative, especially when we helped narrow the answer choices into yes or

The Importance Of Globalization In Latin America
Latin America is rich in indigenous diversity and cultural traditions. There are hundreds of dialects
spoken by indigenous communities in many regions of Latin America. Language is important because
it is the way its speaker view the world and the culture that surrounds them. In Latin American
indigenous communities language is also very important because it is the way cultures save memories,
express emotions, share traditions, and pass on knowledge(Kung, Sherzer). All over the world
language, of course, is of great value because this is how values stay intact and history gets passed on
to new generations. Even though many indigenous dialects are spoken by many communities in Latin
America, globalization has affected indigenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These awful actions taken by the Europeans had a great impact on the indigenous people s linguistic
culture in the long run. After this period only a few hundred languages survived from the 1759
languages spoken prior to the arrival of the Europeans in America(Sherzer, 1991). Since early
colonization, globalization was critical to the diminished literacy cultural traditions of indigenous
communities in Latin America.
In modern times, globalization has forced 49% of Latin America s indigenous population to migrate to
urban areas. Indigenous communities are usually rural, with low economic, education, and healthcare
opportunities. Indigenous people migrated for the same reasons all American migrants do. Urban areas
offer more job opportunities for adults, access to education for children, and health and basic services
for the whole indigenous community. Even though indigenous communities might have a better
chance of success in urban areas this change can be unfavorable and challenging for the families. The
negative aspect of indigenous people moving to more globalized areas is that in urban areas
indigenous practices and knowledge are not valuable. Indigenous people have to settle for low paying
jobs and might end up staying that same job for many years. In many cases, indigenous people can
even be excluded and discriminated by globalized communities and corporations because of their
culture and skills. It s hard for indigenous people

Light On Photosynthesis
This lab allowed the experimenters to understand the effect of light on the producer s photosynthesis.
Once understanding how the light dependent reactions of photosynthesis worked, the experimenters
can make predictions on how the light will affect the photosynthesis. For example, a low amount of
light will affect the light dependent reactions of photosynthesis because light is essential for those
reactions. The question the experimenters asked was, Does having more or less exposure to light cause
a faster rate of photosynthesis? The experimenters first had to know that the leaf tissue of a producer
contains gas filled intercellular spaces. Since the leaf have these spaces, they float when placed in a
solution. When the leaf disks are put into a vacuum pump, the gases leave the intercellular spaces and
the liquid fills these spaces. In doing so, the leaf disks sink to the bottom. This is because the liquid
have a higher density than the gases that were in those spaces. As oxygen is made by photosynthesis,
it diffuses into the intercellular spaces. When there is enough oxygen in the intercellular spaces, ...

However, the amount of time the experimenters waited before looking at each petri dish was not exact.
Having this could ve caused an experimental error because each petri dish could ve have more or less
time under their light amount. This would affect how many reactions of photosynthesis the leaf disks
would ve done, causing the number of leaf disks floating to be incorrect. A way to fix is to have a
timer, so that way each petri dish could have to same time of light exposure. In conclusion, the
experimenters learned that the higher amount of light caused more leaf disk to be floating. This is
supported by what the experimenters learn in class, because light is used in the light dependent
reactions of photosynthesis. Therefore, having more light would have to produce more

The Edgartown Massacre
Meow! Said the kittens at our new local pet store. In the year 2047, we had an overflow of adorable
cats at our store, the store dropped the price very low. The cats were precious they were white, fluffy,
and had cyan blue eyes. Everyone started to buy them, soon they were all sold out. Almost everyone in
our small town of Edgartown, Massachusetts had a cat now. My neighbors Jim and Susan Smith
brought one home, then around midnight, my wife and I heard a gunshot very close. We called the
cops warning them of what we ve heard. In a couple hours we found out they killed each other by
shooting each other at the same time and there have been several other shooting reports around town.

Progressive Tax Vs Regressive Tax
The subjects of every state ought to contribute towards the support of the government, as nearly as
possible, in proportion to their respective abilities; that is, in proportion to the revenue which they
respectively enjoy under the protection of the state.
A progressive tax is a tax where the tax rate increases as your income increases. The progressive tax
takes a larger percentage from the income of high income earners than it does from low income
individuals based on the concept of ability to pay. By dividing taxpayers into categories based on
income level it then allows the wealth of the country to be equalized.
When individuals envision progressive tax systems they are usually referred to the income tax that is
due on April 15th of every year. However, progressive taxes comes in various forms, such as estate
taxes or luxury taxes on consumer goods.
Estate taxes require higher net worth individuals to pay an additional tax on their property when they
die. If the value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However a regressive tax is the exact opposite. Higher income taxpayers pay a smaller percentage of
their income than lower income taxpayers because the tax is not based on ability to pay. A regressive
tax is generally a tax that is applied uniformly. This means that it hits lower income individuals harder,
such as sale taxes. When a regressive tax is based on consumption such as a sales tax, it can introduce
an element of freedom of choice. However, only the consumers whom choose to use the particular
good or service must pay the tax that follows, and those who consume more frequently most pay more
taxes than the occasional users. However, consumers have some measure of control of how much they
pay in taxes. For instances, if the consumer wishes to reduce what they pay in taxes, they can cut back
on or eliminate the use of that particular good or

Women And Women s Political Status
Traditionally, politics has been a gendered occupation. Men and women have been socially
constructed to believe only men are capable of political representation. The problem lies within an
institutional bias, where unnatural distinctions have been put in place from a young age. In New
Zealand, the presence and contribution of women have been pivotal to the make up of contemporary
party politics. Achieving parliamentary recognition and political representation peaked during the
1970s when the country was experiencing large changes in its economic and social environment.
Through activism and pressure groups, women were able to seek recognition in New Zealand s
political domain. The change to Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) eased the access of different
political groups to parliament, improving the representation of minority groups such as women that
have been under represented in politics. Proportional representation offered new opportunities in terms
of policy change through women s political participation. It has, however, been argued that the
structure of proportional representation has been a hindrance toward a significant step forward for
women s political participation. This essay will discuss to what extent the contribution of women
through time, coupled with the shift to a new electoral system in a changing social environment, has
been a step forward for women s political participation in New Zealand party politics.

Porphyria s Lover And Neutral Tones
The loss of a loved one is perhaps the most difficult experience that humans ever come up against.
The poem Porphyria s Lover, written by Robert Browning, adds a sense of irony to this. At the most
superficial layer, the speaker s in both Porphyria s Lover and Neutral Tones, written by Thomas hardy,
both deal with loss. The tones in Neutral Tones seem to be indifferent, or Neutral. Porphyria s Lover
speaker ends up murdering his beloved at the end the poem. While this isn t the case with the speaker
in Neutral Tones, the two speakers are much more similar than we might think. The speaker in Neutral
Tones doesn t outright murder his lover, but there is a considerable amount of disdain and contempt
towards his supposed lover. The speaker in Porphyria s Lover is quite obviously a disturbed man, the
sinister nature of the speaker in Neutral Tones, however, is not as clear. Delving further into this idea,
I will also discuss other obscure parallels throughout the two poems. To start off with, the two
speakers both have incredibly negative and destructive ways of viewing the world. The speaker of
Neutral Tones views the world as though it is devoid of life and glee. He makes references throughout
the poem that suggest this. And the sun was white, as though chidden of God (2) is a perfect instance
of how the speaker in Neutral Tones views the world. The sun is usually the source of all light and
warmth in the world. The speaker does not see the sun in this way. Since he sees the

The Influences Of C. G. Jung
The Influences of C. G. Jung Carl Gustav Jung II was a psychiatrist whose theories of the mind
challenged the existing dogma. His works with human cognition, the basic structure of the psyche, and
association experiments are widely known today in the form of the concepts of the introvert and the
extrovert, psychological archetypes, and basic tests of word association. Although many basic
principles of psychology today are based upon his original discoveries and theories, they were not
conceived without external insight. Social, economic, and cultural influences upon Carl Jung greatly
affected his lifetime achievements and provided inspiration for many of his theories. Born Carl Gustav
Jung II on July 26, 1875, to Emilie Preiswerk and the pastor Paul Jung in Kesswil, Switzerland, he
was not without a notable ancestral background. Jung s paternal grandfather, Dr. Med. Karl Gustav
Jung I, an expatriate from Germany who engaged in liberal political agitation, drew fame to himself
upon moving to Switzerland when he reformed the University of Basel, established moderate wealth,
and participated in local government. (Bair 7 8). Carl Jung s maternity was no less distinguished in its
own right; both of Emilie Preiswerk s parents were favorably regarded in their own community,
though both were intensely superstitious, ascribing mystical causes to their frequent visions, which
were peculiar to the Preiswerk family. The hereditary nature of these visions accounts for a set of Jung

Racial Tension In To Kill A Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee portrays conflict and racial tension in the south in a small
community known as Maycomb. The town is examined by viewing each individual s morals and
ethics that either creates drama in the town or counts as an ethically correct lesson towards the people.
This is evident within the two children known as Scout and Jem., where their character develops and
changes drastically throughout the story due to crucial and vital lessons that not only mature them but
open them up to new perspectives, maturity and show them how courage can take many forms. The
first segment of the TKAM revolves around Boo radley, a mysterious figure that the children portray
as the monster of Maycomb, though they have not seen him, they ... Show more content on

As many would say that Atticus is courageous by striving to do the right thing, others like Jem and
Scout, during the first segment of the book, would see their father as an uncourageous and inactive
hero. As children, their view is varied and restricted due to the fact that Scout and Jem criticise Atticus
ability to play sports. They constantly complain about his ability to football and his lawyering skills.
They do not appreciate the courage and risk he is taking by defending an African American and doing
the right thing. Perhaps in a child s perspective, courage is seen when he shoots the dog with a rifle.
However, as they later on see that courage can take many forms like Ms. Dubose s morphine addiction
and how Atticus takes the leap of faith by choosing to do the right thing and protect Tom Robinson.
This resonates with Jem because he sees his father s Lawyering abilities and how he is using the for
the good of Maycomb. One can tell that Jem has a lot of hope in him and as if Atticus might actually
win the case. However, as realistic and compelling as the evidence might seem, Jem is unaware of the
racist adult society of maycomb. Nevertheless, by using his father s morals and the evidence he was
shown in the court. Jem finally comes to a realization that pure racism is affecting the views and
minds of not only the Jury but the entire town of

Consumer Law Essay
Discuss the extent to which Consumer law achieves its objectives.
The most efficient way for consumers to get what they want is through the market , not the
government, but businesses have more power than their customers. Some businesses can and will use
abuse this power and cheat and steal from consumers to make money. Because of this, the government
regulates the behaviour of businesses to have a market economy that functions properly. These laws
mainly protect consumers against; misleading/deceptive representations, unconscionable conduct,
unfair contracts, and unsafe goods and/or services. To protect consumers, different legal and non legal
approaches have been taken.

Coles claims and advertises that its bread is baked today, sold today and freshly baked in store . It was
found that the bread was not, in fact, baked in Australia, but partially baked months earlier in overseas
factories. Coles accepted a guilty verdict and claimed that new packaging was already being produced.
Coles could face fines of up to $1.1 million per breach. This demonstrates how effective the ACCC is
in enforcing the ACL but penalties may not be harsher enough. For a large business, like Coles, $1.1
million is not that much of a penalty compared to the profits it makes.
Non statutory protections to help the ACL in achieving its objectives can be just as effective as
statutory protections. One protection is the media. The media is a very powerful tool and can wreak
havoc on the profitability of a business. To stay out of the harsh spotlight that is the media, businesses
tend to straighten out really quickly if found to be in breach of a section of the ACL. This helps to
protect consumers to the degree that it makes businesses comply with the law quickly but it doesn t
stop them from doing it to stat with until they get caught.
Another non statutory measure in protecting consumers is through External Dispute Resolution
Schemes (EDR). An example of an EDR is the Financial Ombudsmen Service (FOS) which helps to
protect consumers in matters regarding credit loans. The FOS is a cheaper, faster way of reaching a
solution to

The 4 H s In The Odyssey
Myths have a very important function in the story that may not be the most obvious idea. Myths
explains a code of behavior with rewards and punishments. Odyssey explains the 4 H s through the
actions and adventure of Odysseus. The 4 H s are the honor, hospitality, hubris, and heroism that
comes from greek mythology. Honor means reputation of excellence and back then in time of
Odysseus it didn t necessarily mean one was to be a good person. Hospitality is retreating a stranger
with respect and protection, and providing what they need. Hubris, the opposite of humility, refers to
extreme, ignorant pride or arrogance which is can be punished by the gods. Heroism using one s
brains as much as they use their muscle. First, throughout the story we can see Odysseus achieve
honor. However Odysseus honor is different from ours. He killed men and kidnapped women for
honor. He found his honor in Ismarus when (he), I stormed that place and killed the men who fought.

Secondly you can see Odysseus heroism through his interaction with the goddess, Athena. After he

him, ruddy with sun, his jawline clean, the beard no longer gray upon his chin. Your cloak is new:

Sound Recording In Canada
Sound Recording in Canada, not regulated by the Government
Introduction
Sound recording was initially invented in 1857 by Edouard Leon Scott de Martinville. The
development of sound recording has gone through multiple stages to become what it is today. From
phonographs to magnetic tapes and further developments, sound recording has been used within the
music industry for ages. The government does not regulate the process of sound recording, however
conflicts regarding copyright infringements are present.

Broadcasting is $14 billion industry that includes radio and television, as well as the distribution
services of cable, satellite, and, increasingly the Internet and mobile devices (Gasher, Skinner, Lorimer
218). The Canadian government regulates broadcasting because it serves national, cultural, and
political goals (Gasher, Skinner, Lorimer 219). The reason for comparing regulations between sound
recording and broadcasting is the fact that a great proportion of radio broadcasting is recorded music.
There is a significant symbiosis between radio broadcast policy and policies designed to encourage the
production and dissemination of Canadian music (Gasher, Skinenr, Lorimer 225). Radio broadcasters
are required to have a license in order to broadcast music through their channel. The Canadian Radio
television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is in charge of issuing these licenses to
broadcasters. Today, the CRTC s duties in the broadcasting field include: issuing and renewing
licenses, up to a maximum of seven years, modifying existing license conditions, and suspending or
revoking licenses (Gasher, Skinner, Lorimer 221). It is evident that the use of sound recordings within
the field of broadcasting is strictly regulated. This further develops an idea that the sound recording
industry will become regulated within the future, as it is present in such a vast

The Pros And Cons Of The Popcorn Failure
Reliability is defined as the ability of a system or component to perform its required functions under
stated conditions for a specified period of time. The operation of any electronic device generates heat
and with the increasing device density of the IC chips the amount of heat flux generated by the
integrated circuit chips has gone to a level of 100 200 W/(cm^2 ) [2]. Each time a device is powered
up, the individual components heat up and cool down. This heating and cooling leads to thermal
cycling of the electronic components which causes many problems, such as shear deformation, due to
the mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) of each material. Figure 2.1 shows the
varying CTEs for a typical PBGA package in this research. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this study, structural and thermal reliability of ball grid array packages, mainly the shear stresses
and strains of critical solder balls, have been investigated using accelerated life testing. Many studies
and failure analyses have been showing that interconnect failures due to mismatches of CTE during
thermal cycling is the most critical mode of failure in leaded and SMT packages such as BGAs [5].
Figure 2.3 shows a schematic of what happens to the solder joints during thermal cycling due to
mismatches in CTEs. It shows that at a stress free temperature, the two components, silicon and the
PCB, are relaxed. Then, as the temperature increases, the PCB wants to expand at a higher rate since
the PCB s CTE is 14.5 ppm/°C and the CTE of the silicon is 2.54 ppm/°C. As the temperature drops,
the PCB wants to contract much quicker than the silicon. Looking at the schematic, one can see that
the solder joints are having to flex and deform due to the mismatch in CTE between the two materials.
Over time, these shear stresses and strains cause the solder joints to become fatigued, then cracks
begin to propagate, and the package will ultimately fail once a certain number of thermal cycles have
been

Kelly Lee Professor Mello English 1B 10/17/14 Facing reality The story of Miss Brill, by Katherine
Mansfield, is about an old English teacher, who lives by herself and visits the park every Sunday. Miss
Brill sits at the same spot every Sunday, quietly observing her surrounding and listing in on other
people s conversations. Through this observation, she pretends that she is a part of this extravagant
play taking place in real life, but in reality, she is just sad and lonely and wants to be a part of
something that she doesn t have. Miss Brill, is told through a third person limited omniscient point of
view. Through this we do not know the emotional state of Miss Brill. At first Miss Brill comes off as a
convincing character who we can symptomize with, but as we read on, we see that her perception is
completely unrealistic. The story begins with Miss Brill getting ready to go on her Sunday trip to the
park. She is deciding what to bring with her, when she pulls out this old box. What is inside is an old
fox fur, What is happening to me? (100) she asks, as she took the fox out to stroke it back to life. It
was like she sort of knew that she was taking pleasure in the only thing she cared for, which is only a

The Causes of the Industrial Revolution Essay
The Causes of the Industrial Revolution
The causes of the Industrial Revolution were complex and remain a topic for debate, with some
historians seeing the Revolution as an outgrowth of social and institutional changes wrought by the
end of feudalism in Great Britain after the English Civil War in the 17th century. The Enclosure
movement and the British Agricultural Revolution made food production more efficient and less labor
intensive, forcing the surplus population who could no longer find employment in agriculture into the
cities to seek work in the newly developed factories. The colonial expansion of the 17th century with
the accompanying development of international trade, creation of financial markets and accumulation

Great Britain emerged from the Napoleonic Wars as the only European nation not ravaged by financial
plunder and economic collapse, as well as possessing the only merchant fleet of any useful size
(European merchant fleets having been destroyed during the war by the Royal Navy). The United
Kindom s extensive exporting cottage industries also ensured markets were already open for many
forms of early manufactured goods. The nature of conflict in the period resulted in most British
warfare being conducted overseas, reducing the devastating effects of territorial conquest affecting
much of Europe. This was further aided by Britain s geographical position an island separated from
the rest of mainland Europe.
Another theory believes that Great Britain was able to succeed in the Industrial Revolution due to the
availability of key resources it processed. It had a dense population for its small geographical size.
Enclosure of common land and the related Agricultural revolution made a supply of this labour readily
available. There was also a local coincidence of natural resources in the North of England , the

Romanticism In Rappaccini s Daughter
During the Puritan time period, puritans believed god created nature but in contrast, Romantics
believed god was in all nature. In reaction to religious puritan views, people began to look at nature in
a new way, wanting to be a part of nature rather than just observing it. Nathaniel Hawthorne writes in
the time of Romanticism and with these views he suggests that dark colors and light colors make us

The Apales, Mumps, MeaslesSyncine And Exercines
Have you ever thought about how much a single lie could affect humanity for decades? That is exactly
what was started in 1998 by Dr. Andrew Wakefield. He and a panel of a dozen other scientists
conducted a study to test for a connection between the Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine and
a predisposition to behavioral regression and pervasive developmental disorders, including autism.
Published on the 28th of February 1998 in The Lancet (Lancet1), their study showed there was a
direct correlation between administration of the MMR vaccine and onset of symptoms of autism or
regression of previously learned skills (NCBI).
However, there were a couple of problems. Primarily, Wakefield failed to disclose two different
conflicts of interest; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite all the evidence to the contrary, Wakefield still publicly advocates against vaccines. He is at
the forefront of the anti vaccination movement and has the support of many groups like Generation
Rescue; which is commonly associated with Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg. When the
organization s founder JB Handley was asked if he would believe what the doctors were saying about
his son s autism diagnosis, he replied: there wasn t a chance in hell I was going to believe what these
people were telling me (Handley). Not surprisingly, according to the Safe Vaccination Guide produced
by Generation Rescue, although most of the studies on vaccines have not found a direct correlation
between the MMR and conditions, such as autism, there is still a strong lack of research in this area
(GR; page 4). In an apparent attempt to misrepresent facts, their information completely ignores any
studies contradicting their position; including the list of 25 articles compiled by the Immunization
Action Coalition (IAC); complete with source data from the NCBI.
Understandably, starting with a disease that is so misunderstood and mysterious only adds to the anti
vaccination movement. Compounding their belief is the insurgence of autism diagnoses in the 80s and
90s, of which most people attribute to the increase in vaccines. What most people do not know is that
in the early 1980s a researcher named Lorna Wing

The Journey Of Susan B. Anthony
Dare to Vote: The Journey of Susan B. Anthony
Susan B. Anthony entered the juryless courtroom. A judge sat before her. Just shortly after she arrived,
Anthony said, I have many things to say. My every right, constitutional, civil, political and judicial has
been tramped upon. I have not only had no jury of my peers, but I have had no jury at all
(ecssba.rutgers.edu). Anthony stressed that the laws were not fair only because they were created by
men. The courtroom tensed as she made more points clearly proving the judge wrong about the laws
made forth in the United States. Susan B. Anthony refused to sit, fearing that it would be her last
chance to speak her freedom in the courtroom. The tension was brewing and the judge continued to
rebut Anthony s firm arguments. She made it clear that it was biased laws that were being created
against women. Anthony wanted to change that. Her confident statements about her fine for one
hundred dollars because of her decision to vote even though it was against the law, made the
courtroom quiet. Many uncomfortably shifted back and forth in their chairs, looking at Anthony s
every movement. Anthony maintained a calm, yet effective speech despite the pressure upon her. She
continued to state that it was only wrong of her to vote because she was a woman, and that she was
not being treated like a human being as stated in the amendments. Susan B. Anthony, women s rights
fought the injustice. She spent

Inclusion For Students With Special Needs
In the Education discipline, there has been a long debate for many years over the topic of inclusion.
Inclusive education is defined as students with disabilities, being supported in age appropriate general
education classrooms, at their home school, and receiving specialized instruction as needed per the
student s IEP (Individualized Education Program) within the general education class curriculum and
activities. Inclusion is there to help student with special needs in attending school regularly with their
friends and peers while being accommodated as needed, per their IEP, to help achieve the student s
academic goals and be successful. The topic of inclusion has been researched for many years.
Inclusion will continue to be researched, so that faculty and teachers at elementary schools can
continue to better themselves in inclusion practices for students with special need, and also to continue
to progress towards full inclusion of these students with special needs in a general education
classroom. Since there is a lot in the news about inclusion in schools across the U.S., for this essay, I
began my search about inclusion in the Education discipline by finding scholarly articles on the
subject, along with other online news sources concerning this subject in my area of study. By doing
so, I hope to have a better understanding of inclusion than I have already attained, so that I am better
able to create possible ideas for topics to write future essays throughout this

Evelyn Nesbit s Ragtime
While there are many important messages in the play Ragtime, I believe the most important one is the
message about how women were treated unequally when compared to men and how this is still a
relevant theme in the world today. While there are major differences to how the female culture was in
the 1900s when compared to now, there are still unjust similarities. Throughout the story there are
female characters who represent the growth that women at that time were making however, this
growth is slow and I believe it is not yet finished even today.
Even though it may seem as though Evelyn Nesbit played an insignificant role in this play, she
represented much of the unequal treatment women. She represented a type of woman that was in
existence simply to entertain men, known everywhere as The girl on the velvet swing (Athrens 0). By
the end of the play, Evelyn was motivated by money and material which, in the end, was her downfall.
Her character represents the end of the era of women being considered objects, just as the feminist
movement was beginning. However, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

in the odd predicament of finding a child she exclaims Why in Gods name is my husband not here!
(Ahrens 39) and Where are your instructions, my dear? (Ahrens 39), we realize she knows nothing of
decision making. As the play goes on Mother keeps learning and eventually finds herself doing
everything father used to do. She is no longer the exemplary symbol of what a wife with children
should be. She is now an empowered woman who realizes she can accomplish a great deal more than
what she had originally thought possible of

Judith Ortiz Cofer s Short Story Volar
Every author writes his or her wok with a certain aim or goal that he or she would like to achieve.
Some of the aims for writing include entertainment, to educate or to simply tell the author s story.
Judith Ortiz Cofer s short story, Volar is an example of a short story written for the purpose of telling
one s story. Cofer, gives an account of her family s, her mother to be precise, as well as her dreams,
which raises the concerns of a story characterized by constant exit from reality and entry into dreams.
As a result, this paper aims at giving an account, based on the short story Volar by Judith Ortiz Cofer,
of dreams versus reality. In the event of picturing the American dream, many people have this
concrete picture or idea of perfection and a life well lived. However, the same is not true for every
family, which is portrayed by Cofer in Volar, which means to fly, thus the discussion, dreams versus
reality.
An article by Jenniffer L. Hochschild decribes the American dream as follows, The idea of the
American dream has been attached to everything from religious freedom to a home in the surbubs...a
world where anything can happen and good things might. (15). In her book, Hochschild portrays the
speaker s, the little girl in the short story, American dream, which she is unlikely to ever achieve due
to her present circumstances. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The short story s title Volar appears to have different meanings throughout the story. While in her
dreams, the little girl appears to be quite literally flying. When the little girl s father tells her mother
that they cannot afford to fly to Puerto Rico, her mother expresses disappointment when she says, Ay,
si yo pudiera volar (Cofer,279). The mother s phrase can be taken literary to mean the mother wishes
they could fly to Puerto Rico. It can also be taken in an abstract way to mean the mother and girl s
wishes to escape the world they live

Essay On Reverse Mortgage
What Every Senior Should Know About Reverse Mortgage
When a family purchases a home, they generally do so as an investment in their future. The home
gives them a place to raise their children and offers stability to the family. The typical mortgage term
today is 30 years, which means that most people are in their 50s or even 60s when their home is
finally paid off. Ideally, this puts an older person in a better financial situation. They no longer have
the mortgage to pay every month and many are still in the prime years of their careers. Unfortunately,
this isn t the case for everyone. For older adults who struggle to cover their monthly expenses, even
without a mortgage payment, a Reverse Mortgage through the Federal Housing Administration s
HECM program might be a good option.

Research Paper On Johannes Brahms
My favorite composer among the list given is definitely Johannes Brahms. I am choosing to write
about Brahms because I feel as though he is the leader of the romantic era. He was a very talented
man, who at such a young age had already accomplished so much a composer. When he was a
teenager he was already an established composer and creating beautiful music. My little sister plays
the piano now and one of my personal favorites she plays is Brahms Waltz. I feel so light and beautiful
when I hear the song. I feel it really mirrors his works well. In my research of Brahms I have found
that he was a very sarcastic and harsh man. Even his colleagues spoke about how crass he was, but
they did note that either way he was still an excellent composer.

Black Male Stereotypes
Being a young, black male in today s society, there are numerous stereotypes that some may believe
are true about my family and me. In particular, young black males are normally expected to regularly
disrespect others, behave aggressively, use slang, and act uneducated or not take education seriously;
but so far, I have lived my life not embracing these stereotypes. I have lived my life trying to disprove
stereotypes. Because of these expectations, being respectful to others has always been one of my top
priorities, even if they are disrespectful to me, and despite being the only black male student in most
of my advanced courses since middle school, I chose to work harder as a way of becoming educated
and showing society that I am not a stereotype.

Alternative Fuels And Its Effects On Our Environment
The engine of today is largely dominated by the oil industry. Most of our energy consumption is
contributed to transportation and movement of goods. This creates a high demand for fuel as the
number of miles driven per person is projected to grow. Currently, 86% of vehicles run on fossil fuels,
which create heavy amounts of carbon dioxide gas which puts heavy strain on our environment. It is
up to large companies to research alternative methods of fuels and compare them to our most
dominant fuel. At the moment, proposed alternative fuels are biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, and
hydrogen fuel cells. If one of these proves to be a viable source, then we can move toward
development of engines that accept these fuels and deviate from standard fossil fuel consumption.
Biodiesel:
Biodiesel is a renewable fuel derived from animal fats, vegetable oils, and recycled grease. It is made
from a blend of certain plants and animal fats, helping to burn a cleaner reduced emission fuel.
Biodiesel can replace diesel fuel and be used in diesel engines. The US currently produces about 1.7
billion gallons of biodiesel; not enough to meet our use of 40 billion gallons. Biodiesel was first
developed in 1890 by Rudolph Diesel. Rudolph believed that pure vegetable oils could power early
diesel engines [5]. Despite his discovery, biodiesel development was forgotten as cheaper alternative
sources of fuel were presented. Diesel derived from petroleum was favored over biodiesel for its

The Delays Involved with Commercial Disputes in New York, NY
Commercial disputes in New York, New York often take much longer to resolve than the parties
anticipate. Due to a number of factors, commercial disputes in New York, New York, may linger in the
court system for years. Because these cases may take so long to resolve, many parties have turned to
mediation to more quickly finalize these cases.
Many commercial disputes involve a number of parties, many of whom may not be known at the time
of the dispute. Tracking down all of the parties in a commercial dispute may take several weeks, and
ensuring that they are named properly in court documents takes additional time. Similarly, many of
these parties may be difficult to locate after a lawsuit has been filed. Why does this matter? A
defendant must not only be named properly in a lawsuit, but also must be served with notice of the
lawsuit. If a defendant is particularly difficult to locate or serve, it will delay progress in the case.
When several parties are involved in a commercial dispute, coordinating communication between
them is often difficult. As the case progresses, it may take months to schedule depositions of the
parties and their witnesses, as the schedules of the individuals being deposed, as well as the schedules
of the parties attorneys,

Cultural Competence In Law Enforcement
Law enforcement and the community that it serves should have a harmonious relationship that is built
on the foundation of trust and protection. Often, the community relies on police officers to protect and
serve, while in turn, police officers are dependent on the community to offer support and cooperation
to serve the neighborhood efficiently. However, when there is no connection between the two, tension
begins to form causing their relationship to deteriorate. If there is no communication between the
police officers and the community, then law enforcement would not be able to serve or protect the

Unfortunately, the act of one police officers misconduct can cause damage to the community but also

officer engages in misconduct or with cruel intentions, then another officer would step in. Once that is
done, the agency can create an open forum which would allow for the officers to discuss the dilemmas
that the face on a day to day basis, which may cause an officer to react the way he did. Next,
compared to an aggressive crime fighting model, any innovative policy that may be put in place would
need to be transparent and shows accountability. This type of proposal would also need to be instilled
in the police officers as well. Thirdly, it is crucial that new policies form steps that reduce bias and
improve cultural competency. If police officers were trained on diversity and cultural competency it
would allow them to communicate more effectively with the diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds
with their communities, especially when they understand the cultural norms of many groups. Lastly, it
is essential that officers are visible within their communities, instead of only being seen when they are
arresting offenders. Since negative associations are often formed with the police, many citizens don t
usually interact with them outside of the enforcement statue. By being more visible, police officers
interaction with the citizens of the town would become more truthful and trustworthy. Entail this

  • 2. The Challenges Of Buying Healthy Food After we spitted our tasks separated into 2 groups we quickly get an Uber in order to get to our destination without wasting any time. During the interview process, the most surprising thing (moments) about it was the amount of people participating. After me and my teammates spent about 5 minutes standing in front of Safeway we approach one of the costumer walking out from Safeway s exist, she was carrying 2 groceries bags, so almost immediately we walked up to her in order to ask her a simple questions that we had prepared. The funniest yet saddest respond back was Sorry, I really don t have time to stop and the bags are very heavy. The lady slowly walked away from us, after we got rejected we immediately changed us way to approach people. Instead of asking the people walking in and out with 2 3 long questions, we switch to short and simple questions; for example what are the challenges from buying healthy food? or What is stopping you from buying or eating healthy food and products? etc. While we conducting the interview, we realized that the shorter the simpler the questions, the more effective the interview. When we start interviewing people with long questions, lots of people tented to hesitate on answering, some even walk away after the first question. After we change our strategy and questions into shorter and simpler, people turn out to be more interested in answering and more collaborative, especially when we helped narrow the answer choices into yes or ... • 3. The Importance Of Globalization In Latin America Latin America is rich in indigenous diversity and cultural traditions. There are hundreds of dialects spoken by indigenous communities in many regions of Latin America. Language is important because it is the way its speaker view the world and the culture that surrounds them. In Latin American indigenous communities language is also very important because it is the way cultures save memories, express emotions, share traditions, and pass on knowledge(Kung, Sherzer). All over the world language, of course, is of great value because this is how values stay intact and history gets passed on to new generations. Even though many indigenous dialects are spoken by many communities in Latin America, globalization has affected indigenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These awful actions taken by the Europeans had a great impact on the indigenous people s linguistic culture in the long run. After this period only a few hundred languages survived from the 1759 languages spoken prior to the arrival of the Europeans in America(Sherzer, 1991). Since early colonization, globalization was critical to the diminished literacy cultural traditions of indigenous communities in Latin America. In modern times, globalization has forced 49% of Latin America s indigenous population to migrate to urban areas. Indigenous communities are usually rural, with low economic, education, and healthcare opportunities. Indigenous people migrated for the same reasons all American migrants do. Urban areas offer more job opportunities for adults, access to education for children, and health and basic services for the whole indigenous community. Even though indigenous communities might have a better chance of success in urban areas this change can be unfavorable and challenging for the families. The negative aspect of indigenous people moving to more globalized areas is that in urban areas indigenous practices and knowledge are not valuable. Indigenous people have to settle for low paying jobs and might end up staying that same job for many years. In many cases, indigenous people can even be excluded and discriminated by globalized communities and corporations because of their culture and skills. It s hard for indigenous people ... • 4. Light On Photosynthesis This lab allowed the experimenters to understand the effect of light on the producer s photosynthesis. Once understanding how the light dependent reactions of photosynthesis worked, the experimenters can make predictions on how the light will affect the photosynthesis. For example, a low amount of light will affect the light dependent reactions of photosynthesis because light is essential for those reactions. The question the experimenters asked was, Does having more or less exposure to light cause a faster rate of photosynthesis? The experimenters first had to know that the leaf tissue of a producer contains gas filled intercellular spaces. Since the leaf have these spaces, they float when placed in a solution. When the leaf disks are put into a vacuum pump, the gases leave the intercellular spaces and the liquid fills these spaces. In doing so, the leaf disks sink to the bottom. This is because the liquid have a higher density than the gases that were in those spaces. As oxygen is made by photosynthesis, it diffuses into the intercellular spaces. When there is enough oxygen in the intercellular spaces, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the amount of time the experimenters waited before looking at each petri dish was not exact. Having this could ve caused an experimental error because each petri dish could ve have more or less time under their light amount. This would affect how many reactions of photosynthesis the leaf disks would ve done, causing the number of leaf disks floating to be incorrect. A way to fix is to have a timer, so that way each petri dish could have to same time of light exposure. In conclusion, the experimenters learned that the higher amount of light caused more leaf disk to be floating. This is supported by what the experimenters learn in class, because light is used in the light dependent reactions of photosynthesis. Therefore, having more light would have to produce more ... The cats were precious they were white, fluffy, and had cyan blue eyes. Everyone started to buy them, soon they were all sold out. Almost everyone in our small town of Edgartown, Massachusetts had a cat now. My neighbors Jim and Susan Smith brought one home, then around midnight, my wife and I heard a gunshot very close. In a couple hours we found out they killed each other by shooting each other at the same time and there have been several other shooting reports around town. • 8. Progressive Tax Vs Regressive Tax The subjects of every state ought to contribute towards the support of the government, as nearly as possible, in proportion to their respective abilities; that is, in proportion to the revenue which they respectively enjoy under the protection of the state. A progressive tax is a tax where the tax rate increases as your income increases. The progressive tax takes a larger percentage from the income of high income earners than it does from low income individuals based on the concept of ability to pay. By dividing taxpayers into categories based on income level it then allows the wealth of the country to be equalized. When individuals envision progressive tax systems they are usually referred to the income tax that is due on April 15th of every year. However, progressive taxes comes in various forms, such as estate taxes or luxury taxes on consumer goods. Estate taxes require higher net worth individuals to pay an additional tax on their property when they die. If the value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However a regressive tax is the exact opposite. Higher income taxpayers pay a smaller percentage of their income than lower income taxpayers because the tax is not based on ability to pay. A regressive tax is generally a tax that is applied uniformly. This means that it hits lower income individuals harder, such as sale taxes. When a regressive tax is based on consumption such as a sales tax, it can introduce an element of freedom of choice. However, only the consumers whom choose to use the particular good or service must pay the tax that follows, and those who consume more frequently most pay more taxes than the occasional users. However, consumers have some measure of control of how much they pay in taxes. For instances, if the consumer wishes to reduce what they pay in taxes, they can cut back on or eliminate the use of that particular good or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Women And Women s Political Status Traditionally, politics has been a gendered occupation. Men and women have been socially constructed to believe only men are capable of political representation. The problem lies within an institutional bias, where unnatural distinctions have been put in place from a young age. In New Zealand, the presence and contribution of women have been pivotal to the make up of contemporary party politics. Achieving parliamentary recognition and political representation peaked during the 1970s when the country was experiencing large changes in its economic and social environment. Through activism and pressure groups, women were able to seek recognition in New Zealand s political domain. The change to Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) eased the access of different political groups to parliament, improving the representation of minority groups such as women that have been under represented in politics. Proportional representation offered new opportunities in terms of policy change through women s political participation. It has, however, been argued that the structure of proportional representation has been a hindrance toward a significant step forward for women s political participation. This essay will discuss to what extent the contribution of women through time, coupled with the shift to a new electoral system in a changing social environment, has been a step forward for women s political participation in New Zealand party politics. • 10. Porphyria s Lover And Neutral Tones The loss of a loved one is perhaps the most difficult experience that humans ever come up against. The poem Porphyria s Lover, written by Robert Browning, adds a sense of irony to this. At the most superficial layer, the speaker s in both Porphyria s Lover and Neutral Tones, written by Thomas hardy, both deal with loss. The tones in Neutral Tones seem to be indifferent, or Neutral. Porphyria s Lover speaker ends up murdering his beloved at the end the poem. While this isn t the case with the speaker in Neutral Tones, the two speakers are much more similar than we might think. The speaker in Neutral Tones doesn t outright murder his lover, but there is a considerable amount of disdain and contempt towards his supposed lover. The speaker in Porphyria s Lover is quite obviously a disturbed man, the sinister nature of the speaker in Neutral Tones, however, is not as clear. Delving further into this idea, I will also discuss other obscure parallels throughout the two poems. To start off with, the two speakers both have incredibly negative and destructive ways of viewing the world. The speaker of Neutral Tones views the world as though it is devoid of life and glee. He makes references throughout the poem that suggest this. And the sun was white, as though chidden of God (2) is a perfect instance of how the speaker in Neutral Tones views the world. The sun is usually the source of all light and warmth in the world. The speaker does not see the sun in this way. Since he sees the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Influences Of C. G. Jung The Influences of C. G. Jung Carl Gustav Jung II was a psychiatrist whose theories of the mind challenged the existing dogma. His works with human cognition, the basic structure of the psyche, and association experiments are widely known today in the form of the concepts of the introvert and the extrovert, psychological archetypes, and basic tests of word association. Although many basic principles of psychology today are based upon his original discoveries and theories, they were not conceived without external insight. Social, economic, and cultural influences upon Carl Jung greatly affected his lifetime achievements and provided inspiration for many of his theories. Born Carl Gustav Jung II on July 26, 1875, to Emilie Preiswerk and the pastor Paul Jung in Kesswil, Switzerland, he was not without a notable ancestral background. Jung s paternal grandfather, Dr. Med. Karl Gustav Jung I, an expatriate from Germany who engaged in liberal political agitation, drew fame to himself upon moving to Switzerland when he reformed the University of Basel, established moderate wealth, and participated in local government. (Bair 7 8). Carl Jung s maternity was no less distinguished in its own right; both of Emilie Preiswerk s parents were favorably regarded in their own community, though both were intensely superstitious, ascribing mystical causes to their frequent visions, which were peculiar to the Preiswerk family. The hereditary nature of these visions accounts for a set of Jung s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Racial Tension In To Kill A Mockingbird To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee portrays conflict and racial tension in the south in a small community known as Maycomb. The town is examined by viewing each individual s morals and ethics that either creates drama in the town or counts as an ethically correct lesson towards the people. This is evident within the two children known as Scout and Jem., where their character develops and changes drastically throughout the story due to crucial and vital lessons that not only mature them but open them up to new perspectives, maturity and show them how courage can take many forms. The first segment of the TKAM revolves around Boo radley, a mysterious figure that the children portray as the monster of Maycomb, though they have not seen him, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As many would say that Atticus is courageous by striving to do the right thing, others like Jem and Scout, during the first segment of the book, would see their father as an uncourageous and inactive hero. As children, their view is varied and restricted due to the fact that Scout and Jem criticise Atticus ability to play sports. They constantly complain about his ability to football and his lawyering skills. They do not appreciate the courage and risk he is taking by defending an African American and doing the right thing. Perhaps in a child s perspective, courage is seen when he shoots the dog with a rifle. However, as they later on see that courage can take many forms like Ms. Dubose s morphine addiction and how Atticus takes the leap of faith by choosing to do the right thing and protect Tom Robinson. This resonates with Jem because he sees his father s Lawyering abilities and how he is using the for the good of Maycomb. One can tell that Jem has a lot of hope in him and as if Atticus might actually win the case. However, as realistic and compelling as the evidence might seem, Jem is unaware of the racist adult society of maycomb. Nevertheless, by using his father s morals and the evidence he was shown in the court. The most efficient way for consumers to get what they want is through the market , not the government, but businesses have more power than their customers. Some businesses can and will use abuse this power and cheat and steal from consumers to make money. Because of this, the government regulates the behaviour of businesses to have a market economy that functions properly. These laws mainly protect consumers against; misleading/deceptive representations, unconscionable conduct, unfair contracts, and unsafe goods and/or services. To protect consumers, different legal and non legal approaches have been taken. Statutory protections by the government, like the Australian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coles claims and advertises that its bread is baked today, sold today and freshly baked in store . It was found that the bread was not, in fact, baked in Australia, but partially baked months earlier in overseas factories. Coles accepted a guilty verdict and claimed that new packaging was already being produced. Coles could face fines of up to $1.1 million per breach. This demonstrates how effective the ACCC is in enforcing the ACL but penalties may not be harsher enough. For a large business, like Coles, $1.1 million is not that much of a penalty compared to the profits it makes. Non statutory protections to help the ACL in achieving its objectives can be just as effective as statutory protections. One protection is the media. The media is a very powerful tool and can wreak havoc on the profitability of a business. To stay out of the harsh spotlight that is the media, businesses tend to straighten out really quickly if found to be in breach of a section of the ACL. This helps to protect consumers to the degree that it makes businesses comply with the law quickly but it doesn t stop them from doing it to stat with until they get caught. Another non statutory measure in protecting consumers is through External Dispute Resolution Schemes (EDR). An example of an EDR is the Financial Ombudsmen Service (FOS) which helps to protect consumers in matters regarding credit loans. The FOS is a cheaper, faster way of reaching a solution to ... Odyssey explains the 4 H s through the actions and adventure of Odysseus. The 4 H s are the honor, hospitality, hubris, and heroism that comes from greek mythology. Honor means reputation of excellence and back then in time of Odysseus it didn t necessarily mean one was to be a good person. Hospitality is retreating a stranger with respect and protection, and providing what they need. Hubris, the opposite of humility, refers to extreme, ignorant pride or arrogance which is can be punished by the gods. Heroism using one s brains as much as they use their muscle. First, throughout the story we can see Odysseus achieve honor. However Odysseus honor is different from ours. He killed men and kidnapped women for honor. The development of sound recording has gone through multiple stages to become what it is today. From phonographs to magnetic tapes and further developments, sound recording has been used within the music industry for ages. The government does not regulate the process of sound recording, however conflicts regarding copyright infringements are present. Brief History An academic article written by Linda M. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Broadcasting is $14 billion industry that includes radio and television, as well as the distribution services of cable, satellite, and, increasingly the Internet and mobile devices (Gasher, Skinner, Lorimer 218). The Canadian government regulates broadcasting because it serves national, cultural, and political goals (Gasher, Skinner, Lorimer 219). The reason for comparing regulations between sound recording and broadcasting is the fact that a great proportion of radio broadcasting is recorded music. There is a significant symbiosis between radio broadcast policy and policies designed to encourage the production and dissemination of Canadian music (Gasher, Skinenr, Lorimer 225). Radio broadcasters are required to have a license in order to broadcast music through their channel. The Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is in charge of issuing these licenses to broadcasters. Today, the CRTC s duties in the broadcasting field include: issuing and renewing licenses, up to a maximum of seven years, modifying existing license conditions, and suspending or revoking licenses (Gasher, Skinner, Lorimer 221). It is evident that the use of sound recordings within the field of broadcasting is strictly regulated. • 19. The Pros And Cons Of The Popcorn Failure Reliability is defined as the ability of a system or component to perform its required functions under stated conditions for a specified period of time. The operation of any electronic device generates heat and with the increasing device density of the IC chips the amount of heat flux generated by the integrated circuit chips has gone to a level of 100 200 W/(cm^2 ) [2]. Each time a device is powered up, the individual components heat up and cool down. This heating and cooling leads to thermal cycling of the electronic components which causes many problems, such as shear deformation, due to the mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) of each material. Figure 2.1 shows the varying CTEs for a typical PBGA package in this research. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this study, structural and thermal reliability of ball grid array packages, mainly the shear stresses and strains of critical solder balls, have been investigated using accelerated life testing. Many studies and failure analyses have been showing that interconnect failures due to mismatches of CTE during thermal cycling is the most critical mode of failure in leaded and SMT packages such as BGAs [5]. Figure 2.3 shows a schematic of what happens to the solder joints during thermal cycling due to mismatches in CTEs. It shows that at a stress free temperature, the two components, silicon and the PCB, are relaxed. Then, as the temperature increases, the PCB wants to expand at a higher rate since the PCB s CTE is 14.5 ppm/°C and the CTE of the silicon is 2.54 ppm/°C. As the temperature drops, the PCB wants to contract much quicker than the silicon. Looking at the schematic, one can see that the solder joints are having to flex and deform due to the mismatch in CTE between the two materials. Over time, these shear stresses and strains cause the solder joints to become fatigued, then cracks begin to propagate, and the package will ultimately fail once a certain number of thermal cycles have been ... Miss Brill Reality Kelly Lee Professor Mello English 1B 10/17/14 Facing reality The story of Miss Brill, by Katherine Mansfield, is about an old English teacher, who lives by herself and visits the park every Sunday. Miss Brill sits at the same spot every Sunday, quietly observing her surrounding and listing in on other people s conversations. Through this observation, she pretends that she is a part of this extravagant play taking place in real life, but in reality, she is just sad and lonely and wants to be a part of something that she doesn t have. Miss Brill, is told through a third person limited omniscient point of view. Through this we do not know the emotional state of Miss Brill. At first Miss Brill comes off as a convincing character who we can symptomize with, but as we read on, we see that her perception is completely unrealistic. What is inside is an old fox fur, What is happening to me? (100) she asks, as she took the fox out to stroke it back to life. The Enclosure movement and the British Agricultural Revolution made food production more efficient and less labor intensive, forcing the surplus population who could no longer find employment in agriculture into the cities to seek work in the newly developed factories. The nature of conflict in the period resulted in most British warfare being conducted overseas, reducing the devastating effects of territorial conquest affecting much of Europe. Another theory believes that Great Britain was able to succeed in the Industrial Revolution due to the availability of key resources it processed. Evelyn Nesbit s Ragtime While there are many important messages in the play Ragtime, I believe the most important one is the message about how women were treated unequally when compared to men and how this is still a relevant theme in the world today. While there are major differences to how the female culture was in the 1900s when compared to now, there are still unjust similarities. Throughout the story there are female characters who represent the growth that women at that time were making however, this growth is slow and I believe it is not yet finished even today. She represented a type of woman that was in existence simply to entertain men, known everywhere as The girl on the velvet swing (Athrens 0). Most of our energy consumption is contributed to transportation and movement of goods. This creates a high demand for fuel as the number of miles driven per person is projected to grow. Currently, 86% of vehicles run on fossil fuels, which create heavy amounts of carbon dioxide gas which puts heavy strain on our environment. It is up to large companies to research alternative methods of fuels and compare them to our most dominant fuel. At the moment, proposed alternative fuels are biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, and hydrogen fuel cells.
