Examples Of Symbolic Interactionism Of Marijuana
Marijuana is a very well known and commonly used drug. Yet, there are many different attitudes and
meanings attached to it. So why is there such a variation in people s attitudes towards marijuana. This
can be explained and understood by using the symbolic interactionism theory. Marijuana is a very
controversial topic among Americans and much research has been done regarding it. The Pew
Research Center has gathered information on the opinions Americans have towards the legalization of
marijuana. The data shows what percentage of Americans think it should be legal or not. There is also
data on reasons why they have their opinions and meanings toward marijuana. This data helps to
further understand and apply this theory to the use of marijuana.
Symbolic interactionism perspective is a theory that is used to study social life. To do this, this theory
relies on studying and observing the interactions among people and how they form meanings to things
from those interactions. Although, there is much more to this theory than that. Blumer, the man who
invented the term symbolic interactionism, presented three premises which help to understand this
theory. The first one is, people act a certain way towards things depending on their meaning for that
thing. The second premise is that we get meanings from social interaction, so we are taught meanings
or we witness them from others. Lastly, the third premise is that meanings are able to change because
people have the mental capacity to

Street Angel analysis

What sort of social critique does this Street Angel (1937) present? What does it say about issues
involved in modernization ? What symbols are portrayed in Street Angel (1937)
Introduction
Every country has specific famous era in which their cinema portrays the reality of their society, the
1930 s was the era in which China s cinema bent itself towards portraying society and modernization.
A lot of distinctive features developed by Chinese film over the last hundred years are the result and
testimony of the particular kind of interaction linking culture with politics in the twentieth century
china. As a kind of mass entertainment Chinese film has been affected by historical forces in a unique
manner. To understand Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Critics of street angel were expected to comment on a conflicting set of political and cultural norms,
which were portrayed in the movie, in order to revel a complex culture beset by inextricable issues.
Strong women characters like the two sisters were portrayed in this movie. As they had an
omnipresent presence in Chinese cinematic portrayal of women and the start era of cinema in which of
modern social configurations are portrayed, even though the women portrayed in the street angel were
prostitutes. Women s contribution in the movie was greatly appreciated (Yingjin p36).
Street angel a musical and thus it followed the genre of Chinese cinema in 1930. Thus this movie was
made in order to portray the social conditions by means of song and not a dramatic plot, and their
promotion material showed titles of the songs sung in the movie and the singers who sung them.
Needless to state, a lot of the actors of street angel were not movie stars however they popular artists
who usually took part in such musicals. It can be said that this movie portrayed the social condition of
china in a more colorful manner then past movies of that era, as a lot of catchy songs were used in this

Moonwalk Paintings
The first painting that caught my attention was Moonwalk made in 1987 by Andy Warhol. This
painting was one of Andy Warhol s final work. There are several versions of this painting, a yellow
version and a pink version. The Yellow version of the Moonwalk painting looks as if the sun is
reflecting off of the astronaut and the flag. The pink version gives a feeling of warmth like some sort
of heat signature is appearing off of the painting itself. The painting gives off a an allusion of a near
three dimensional form with its overlapping of the line and color on the astronaut the flag and the
surface of the moon.
The second painting that attracted my attention at the museum was a painting called Barbe du

John Steinbeck Happiness
People always say a hidden treasure could bring them happiness. Is that true or is it a talk to make
people happy? In the novel, The Pearl by John Steinbeck, a protagonist named Kino found a great
pearl that he thought his family would have a chance of getting money and education for his son.
However, instead of happiness, catastrophe starts to occur continuously. It made Kino and Juana cause
dismay everyday due to not knowing what would happen next. What is ironic within the novel s plot
was that, when someone found a gemstone, their future would suddenly change by getting more
money or an optimistic life. For a poverty family, it is a hope and future, but misery happened that you

This point where Kino lost everything and he lost his son. At first, Kino always thought about him.
When he got the pearl, he was dreaming that his son would get education. On page 38, Our son must
go to school. He must break out of the pot that holds us in. The reason why he didn t throw away the
pearl was for his son. Coyotito really was a son that Kino had to forfend and give him a good life. The
part when he got attack by the man, he thought the man got his pearl. He would scarifies his life or his
safety for the pearl because of Coyotito. At this point, he doesn t care if he killed a man but he only
cared about the great pearl. On page 53, My son must have a chance. That is what they are striking at.
This scarifies made him wants his son to succeed in life and he wants him to read and write. He would
also scarifies his life to make Coyotito safe by having a plan to attack the trackers, so Juana and
Coyotito could escape. Referring back to the novel, There is a way. But they would kill you. If I get
first to the one with the rifle. I must get to him first, then I will be all right. He s not scared to make
this decision and willing to die for Coyotito. At last, when Coyotito died, he thought the pearl was
worthless and threw the pearl back to the sea where it belongs. Now his son died, what is the real
reason of keeping the pearl? Nothing really matters when his son died because at that

Essay about Compare and Contrast Traditional and Modern...
Faouzi NOURI GIRONES CIT 071807 Compare and contrast traditional and modern families
Since the nineteenth century, in the western societies, family patterns changed under the forces of
industrialisation and urbanisation. Another factor which has been involved in those changes is the
growing intervention of the state, by legislative action, in the domestic affairs of the family. As a result
of these trends, the modern nuclear family has been substituted for the traditional extended family.
The increase of values such as individualism and egalitarism has influenced the patterns of ... Show

In addition, in the traditional families the mother usually bore the sole responsibility of the child
caring. Modern parents now share this responsibility together because of social and work constraints.
However, holidays which are not common in the traditional family, allow them to spend quality time
with their children. Moreover in many modern families the father becomes a house worker, to provide
for the needs of his children. As the statistics shown in the United Kingdom in 2001, 155 000 fathers
were stay home husbands. All in all, the emphasis on nurturing children can be seen in traditional and
modern families, alike.
Apart from the similarities mentioned above, traditional and modern families have several differences
in the areas of family size and gender roles.
One major difference between the traditional and modern family is the decrease in family size. The
traditional family tends to be extended with three or more generations in the same household because
it provides a strong union between its members. Another reason for a large household is that usually
farming was the principal economic activity of the family 1 members. In contrast, the modern family
household contains two generations, parents and dependants children. Unlike the traditional family the

Weeping Woman
Pablo Picasso s, Weeping Woman (1937), is a most expressive and eccentric image of a woman in
distress. The geometry and shapes in the painting are imaginative and outrageous, with bright colors
and shapes of boats and flowers that are, to some extent humorous, except for the profound suffering
of the women. The eyes of the women are shaped as boats within a rough sea, spilling tears in the
form of diamonds. Diamond shaped tears are also the nails of her hands, held up to her face in fright.
With a single image Picasso expresses a complex array of human anguish; terror, despair, outrage,
hysteria, and death. The sad and dark eyed woman is Picasso s lover Dora Maar, but the woman is also
a symbol of a victim of war or a witness to the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Performance Enhancement Analysis
Healthcare organizations (HCOs) are in the business of providing quality care, while reducing cost
and meeting various guidelines and regulations. Therefore, it is necessary that HCOs monitor,
measure, and evaluate the performance of their organization. Balanced scorecards is a tool that is used
in healthcare to monitor organization performance by focusing on indicators that affect performance.
A balanced scorecard was created and implemented at a clinic at the Oregon Health and Science
University Family Medicine. The article Performance Enhancement Using a Balanced Scorecard in a

Public Administration Through Different Forms Of Management
The major theme prevalent throughout this week s readings is a detailed look at the study of public
administration through different forms of management.
The two main forms of management discussed in the passages by Shafritz Hyde (2012) and Chester
Barnard (1968) are scientific management and human relations school of management. The theory of
scientific management, first introduced by Frederick W. Taylor (1912, pp. 37 39) proposes that the
driving force behind a man s work is receiving a monetary reward. On the other hand the theory of
human relations, as suggested by Mary Parker Follet (1926, pp. 58 65) and later validated by the
Hawthorne experiments conducted in the 1930s (Shafritz and Hyde, 2012) propose that the driving

He (Barnard, 1968, pp. 65 81, 114 123, 186 199, 215 234) emphasized on the point that there was a
mutually dependent relationship between a formal and informal organization, and in order to achieve a
successful running organization (whether formal or informal) the executive/superior should ensure
that both the needs of the organization as well as the needs of the employee are met equally.
William Willoughby (1918, pp. 40 43), did prominent work in the field of public administration. One
of his most prominent work is on budgetary reform. Willoughby shared a similar school of thought as
Frederick Taylor, based on the principles of scientific management. Both Willoughby and Taylor,
through their own school of thoughts concluded on the same point that the driving force behind
management/administrative/individual ultimately is monetary/financial. Years later came along the
Luther Gulick, with the Theory of Organization (1937, pp. 81 89), who again shared Frederick Taylor
s ideology of taking a scientific approach to management. Gulick (1937, pp. 81 89) was famously
known for his mnemonic on the seven major functions of management: planning, organizing, staffing,
directing, coordinating, reporting and budgeting.
Weber s work on bureaucracy (1922, pp. 44 49) is considered the basis for the subject. Weber s main
idea of organizations being

The End Of World War II And Creation Of The United Nations
The end of World War II and creation of the United Nations (UN) in 1945, set the world on a new
evolutionary path. This unique evolution commenced with the United States (US) and the Union of
Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR) as world powers as a result of their distinctive roles in ending
World War II. Their contradicting ideologies as to the basis of this new evolution sparked a cold war
bringing fear and great concerns to the masses. Inspite of the intensity of this war, the UN assumed its
responsibilities in ensuring peace and encouraging both nations to peacefully sort out their differences.
This consequently recorded the first involvement of the UN in the world superpowers affairs.
Currently, the evolution transits into new superpowers; the United States an established power and
China a rising power. In contrast to the US USSR relations, the new superpowers emphasize on
constructive bilateral relations that propose to foster cooperation, mutual respect and promote global
development. This essay, indicates the importance of unified trilateral efforts and collaborative
multilateral cooperation between the US, China and the UN. These world powers have thriven through
socio economic decline to expand their economy, joined forces to propagate the global economic
growth and strength. It further describes the beneficial relationship of the US and China to
international society by their constructive roles and responsibilities. The essay also highlights the

Disadvantages Of Electric Vehicles
Electric vehicles (EVs) are considered a key technology in reducing fossil fuel consumption,
emissions and energy consumption. In comparison with internal combustion vehicles (ICV), EVs offer
highly efficient energy usage (around three times as efficient as an ICV), zero emissions and low noise
level, aspects that are necessary to improve the quality of life in urban areas.
According to the latest IEA report, global electric car stock surpassed 2 million vehicles in 2016.
However, electric vehicles still only account for 0.2 per cent of all the cars in the world [ ]. In spite of
this, there are still a number of barriers to be overcome in order to increase demand for EVs. The
major obstacles are: the limited driving range, high investment costs, compared to ICV, the slow
recharging time and the resistance to innovation. [ ].
Thomas Franke Josef F. Krems [ ] present an excellent literature review of driving range needs of
vehicles in several countries. Pearre et al. [ ] shows an interesting discussion on the limited driving
range issue and aims to indicate an ideal driving range based on the consumers necessities in Atlanta
(USA). Several studies found that in Germany 95% of cars on the road travel less than 100 km [ ].
Despite this, a survey showed that 60% of drivers in EU would not consider it acceptable to have a
driving range of less than 160 km [ ]. This agrees with a recent survey in which most electric vehicles
sold in recent years have a driving range over 120

Schizophreni A Mental Disorder
20 October 2015
Schizophrenia can be managed successfully with proper interventions.
When someone says, That person over there is a schizophrenic. Do we truly know what it means or do
we just assume they are so called crazy ? There is a stigma put on someone that has been diagnosed
with this disease. The term has been used very loosely over the years without people actually knowing
the background behind the term as well as the definition of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is in a
mental disorder classification on its own.
Schizophrenia is said to possibly date as far back as Egyptian times. Although it may date back to
ancient times, the first belief was that the person was possessed by a demon or was being punished for
not obeying the God s wishes. Schizophrenia has not always had that name. The term used before
Eugene Bleuber renamed it was called dementia praecox. Arnold Pick was actually the first one to
name the disorder dementia praecox but was not properly given credit for it. Emil Kraepelin was the
publisher of several psychology books and was given credit for naming it dementia praecox. It became
known as schizophrenia after Eugene Bleuber reviewed Kraepelin work and thought that based on the
symptoms of the disorder that schizophrenia is a better fit.

The Global Problem Of Global Trade Essay
There is no doubt that the importance of global trade is one of the most integral aspects out of which
human beings began their dominance of this planet. If history books tell us anything, it is that the
some of the most important and powerful countries had their beginnings in early global trade. One of
the most well known countries which took to the high seas in their venture to dominate global trade is
Portugal. Their story has been told and re told time and time again, always positioning them as a
leader during the Age of Discovery, a time in which finding the fastest overseas trade routes for items
such as spices lead to other discoveries as well. While Portugal will always be able to reflect on past
achievements and their footnote in the infancy of a global network, they still find themselves situated
as a participating member of a less glorious and more ominous trade venture. Portugal s role in the
global illegal trafficking of drugs and human beings is a controversial and hot button issue on a
multitude of socio political levels. While their inclusion into this dark world is by no means voluntary,
their participation in the illegal trafficking trade is a symptom of what could arguably be considered
one of their leading characteristics which allowed them to dominant the Golden Era; geographic
positionality. A recent document leaked from a global intelligence firm in 2012 succinctly sums up
their inherent problem:

Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film A significant challenge for architects today is creating a balance
between preserving original, historic buildings, and creating functional additions for them. Additions
play a very important role in structures today; serving to work with what already exists while
accommodating changing functional requirements and aesthetic tastes. They seek to maintain the
original building s character, while becoming compatible with new design. The Vogelstein Center for

Prior to the addition, Ferry House challenged Vassar s preexisting architectural notions, being the first
modern building of its kind. In relation to surrounding buildings, Sanders Physics and Main Building,
Ferry is a misfit. However, upon completion of the Vogelstein addition, this section of campus was
transformed. The dark and light gray striped pattern addition fares well with the white painted brick of
Ferry House. The varying width of these stripes is representative of the contemporary nature the
architect was trying to further, similar to the rectangular shapes present on Ferry. Vogelstein s stark
burnt orange overhang again mirrors the style of Ferry building. The concrete masonry stands out not
only against the façade, but also against Vassar s many other brick buildings. These two adjacent
buildings share a common courtyard, known as the Frances Daly Fergusson Quadrangle, a venue for
outdoor theatrics. This minimalist courtyard serves to create a flow between the two buildings. This
addition meets demands for modernization, relatable to the Loeb Art Center and the upcoming science
facility on the opposite side of campus. These buildings work together to bring a contemporary mix to

The Effects Of Blood Doping On Professional Sports
The phenomenon of the blood doping in professional sports is not new; however, it remains prevalent
in sports culture. With new techniques being designed to avoid detection, it could be argued that the
prohibition of sports enhancing drugs in the professional sports mirror the prohibition of alcohol,
making for unsafe, unsanitary and black market drug erupt. Instead of prohibition, could the
professional sports community limitations in order to better allocate their money? There are great
incentives to use blood doping techniques with little by way of repercussions. Blood doping is a
process intended to boost athlete s performance by increasing the body s ability to filter more oxygen
to the muscles. This is done by increasing the hemoglobin which is the body s transportation of
oxygen to red blood cells (Webmd). The higher the hemoglobin contents in the blood the higher the
oxygen amount being transported to the muscle for the purposes recovery. Most common activities
blood doping is found in includes long distance activities such as marathon running and cycling, as
blood doing is thought to improve stamina (Webmd). There are multiple types of blood doping such
as; blood transfusions, erythropoietin injections (EPO) and synthetic oxygen carriers. There are two
forms of blood transfusions. The first type is Autologous Transfusions, which is the process of
removing one s own blood and storing it for future use. Whereas the other, Homologous transfusions

Survival In Auschwitz Analysis
Primo Levi once stated Today I think that for no reason other than that Auschwitz existed, no one in
our age should speak of providence. Levi, the author of Survival in Auschwitz , could not be more
wrong. Auschwitz, one of the most infamous concentration camps in history, absolutely destroyed
ones identity, as thoroughly described in his book. Levi states Imagine now a man who is deprived of
everyone he loves, and at the same time of his house, his habits, his clothes, in short, of everything he
possesses: he will be a hollow man, reduced to suffering and needs, forgetful of dignity and restraint,
for he who losses all easily losses himself. (Levi, page 27) The prisoners were exposed to countless

They carefully calculated everything and collectively used their reasoning to solve the Jewish problem
. As a result, one may question the use of reason. In an all about me type of world people use
reasoning to attend to their own personal, and often selfish, agendas: they do not consider their impact
on others. This is exactly what happened in the holocaust. The Nazis did not care about what Jews
thought; they only cared about annihilating them. So if using reason is not always the right thing to do
what is one left with? It appears that all one is left with then would be their morals. However, one s
morals may differ greatly from another s. Therefore, the question becomes how one can claim that
their morals are more pure than someone else s. For instance, what justification did the SS man who
decided whom would survive during the selection have? What gives him the right to claim another s
life? Simply put, the only being just enough to do so is God himself. For this reason the only logical
response would be to then conform to God s will. Morals, however, did not usually last long in
Auschwitz. Nonetheless, Lorenzo, another Italian, broke that trend. Levi writes an Italian civilian

Containing stories, news, and opinions of both T.S. Eliot and others who wrote about him, The Letters
of T.S. Eliot offer an inside perspective on Eliot s life.. In Volume 1 of the revised edition of the letters
Patrick Query describes how T.S. Eliot felt so much passion for culture and how it must improve
(Letters, Volume 1). In the volume, the writer states that Eliot started a movement to modernize
literature all on his own. Eliot contained such a strong passion for making the world a better place,
that as society generally acted apathetic towards life, Eliot strived for a culture where people actually
inserted energy and passion into life. Also, in John Worthen s biography of T.S. Eliot, the author
believes Eliot focused the entire masterpiece of Four Quartets on illustrating to his audience despite
painful times in life, people must focus more on the beauty of life (Worthen). Devoting much of his
literature career to impacting society, Eliot often focused on changing the lack of enthusiasm culture
contained. Besides driving culture forward in passion for life, Eliot lived at the forefront of
contemporary literature. Before the 20th century, literature followed many traditions and guidelines
throughout its poems, essays, novels, and plays, but T.S. Eliot played a significant role in bringing
about literary modernism. One of Eliot s great works, Four Quartets

Genetic Modification Pros And Cons
Most parents would want their child to be free of disease, impairment or maybe even want them to be
perfect. Genetic modification provides the opportunity for parents to edit their child s genome while
still inside the mother s embryo. For example, Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic
Repeats, or CRISPR for short, is an editing technique that in short, is like two pairs of scissors. When
a virus infects a cell, it inserts its RNA into the cell s DNA and tricks the cell into replicating hundreds
of viruses until the cell bursts and the newly created viruses target new unsuspecting cells. CRISPR
finds and cuts the RNA that the virus injected into the cell multiple times until it turns into small,
separate pieces that pose no threat to the cell and then creates a normal cell. This also passes down
through generations, so the offspring of whoever had CRISPR is now also immune to that certain
virus. CRISPR also can edit human features, change skin or eye color, or maybe make them stronger.
Genetic modification is the right direction if parents want their child to live a good life. ... Show more

To be able to fix problems such as freeing them from a birth defect that impairs them. One of the
things that it can do is that it can allow scientists to make precise changes to DNA, and has the
potential to transform the treatment of genetic disorders by correcting faulty genes (Sample, 1).
Genetic modification can provide people the chance to stop a defect that was passed down for
generations like CRISPR. For example, if there is a defect that was passed down from generations
before and the baby will have Autism, scientist can change the baby s genomes to stop the defect and
create better traits that replace the

The Classical Nuclear Deterrence Strategy During The Cold War
The classical nuclear deterrence strategy used during the Cold War would require some modifications
in order to be effective against non state actors in the 21st century. The United States and the Soviet
Union had enough nuclear weapons between the two superpowers that deterred both from using. This
was because it would not be beneficial socially or economically for either in the long term. Non state
actors are not equal in most respects to state actors and sometimes considered not deterrable , so
therefore a modified approach may prove more effective. The basic definition of deterrence is the
concept of providing the enemy with enough evidence that any attempt to attack would result in far
greater consequences for the aggressor. General

How To Be A Military Leader Essay
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and
motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made
famous a quote that stated, Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that
goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well. (Notable quotes.com).
One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no
guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a
great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as
intellect, moral character, and human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The warning order must also follow the guidelines of the five paragraph OPORD format. A warning
issue may include what the mission consists of, coordinating instructions, deadline, and who is all
responsible for seeing this task is seen through. Which brings us to our final step of leader s
responsibilities: make a tentative plan. This is what really separates the boys from the men. Up until
now, it was merely receiving orders of what to do and who is a part of the plan. Step 3 is all about the
plan for mission essentials, analysis, specific and implied tasks, and a restated mission report. The
responsibility for this step is something not for the weak minded as no situation is the same.
Throughout history our country has had many leaders. Whether you re the leader of a business,
military platoon, or the leader of our great nation you were withheld with the honor and trust to govern
the actions and best interests of fellow Americans. But just because you have achieved the title of a
leader does not by default make you a good leader. A good leader is a person who has risen above and
beyond to show cooperation, perseverance, and respect to decisions made by those still above you at
one point in time. As a seasoned member of the military, you ve risen through the ranks because you
understood your mission and performed your duties with distinction. At this stage of your career, your
most important contribution may be how well you take care of the service members and

MWO Position Paper
Background The Vice Chief of Staff of the Army approved the position for the 882A Mobility Warrant
Officer (MWO) in July 1997. His original vision for the MWO was to embed them in the 10 active
Divisions and the two interim brigade combat teams (IBCTs) at that time. Their initial success in these
roles and increased world deployments led to a demand for these deployment experts at every level of
command. MWOs where soon assigned to the 10 divisions, 2 SBCTs, 8 transportation movement
control battalions (MCB), and 2 transportation groups (Lieutenant Colonel Peter B. Everitt, 2016).
According to a recent report pulled from FMS Web, there are currently 173 authorized MWO
positions in the US Army. (USAFMSA, 2016) These assignments range from the Movement Control
Battalion (MCB) level to the regional and strategic command levels. BCT modularity and increased
deployments over the past 15 years has validated the need for mobility experts at every level of
command. MWOs today typically start their career in Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs). The MWOs ...

assigned to the three divisional BCTs, the Sustainment Brigade (SB), the Combat Aviation Brigade

cases the Special Forces group or other specialized units. MWOs are forced to be the senior technical

MWO must seek out mentorship. In most cases they are mentored by someone outside of their career
field within their organization, or they are mentored by an MWO outside of their organization that
may or may not be geographically located near them. Neither of these situations is ideal for the early

Descriptive Writing On A Coral Reef
February was deep into Summer and the water was bright blue, the beautiful colour of the sky. The
animals moods could not be down today. The fish in the Ocean were playing tag, the dolphins were
dancing and the turtles were singing in the reef. The centre of the reef, which was beautiful, vibrant
and teeming with life. Two towering magnificent coral is see able from kilometres around. The
knowledgeable turtle even said he saw the corals from the other end of the reef while teaching his
hatchlings what type of food is good to eat.
These corals were major to the animals, if not significant to the reef as well. They were home to
numerous of species, regardless of the possibility that those species didn t have any acquaintance with
it. The fish sleeping in the anemone, the Dolphins resting on the shallows of the reef, turtles hid under
the multitudes of the submerged rocks, seahorses and crabs slept in the sea grass, and the manta ray
sleep under the sand to seek frequent shelter in the sand. It was a gorgeous view, everything was so
serene, calm, and placid. Mother Nature herself loved this Reef, for the Moon watched over them to
keep them safe and warm. Nothing terrible could ever show up at this reef.
The sun came up; another day has begun. The deepest shades of night were replaced with bright
magnificent colours, the reef became a busy neighbourhood. the turtles swam out of nest, the woken
hatchlings laughed with joy. The fish scuttled out of the anemone womb meanwhile

KAMSC Stairs Essay
The KAMSC Stairs The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an
incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the
experience? As I reach the top of the stairs, I am panting and out of breath. No matter how many times
I have complete the climb to the top, it has never become any easier, but as I arrive at the doors I relish
the heavy breathing as evidence that I have made it. Not to the top of the stairs, but to KAMSC, the
Kalamazoo Area Math and Science Center, a place that two years ago, had appeared unattainable. Two
and a half years ago I was completing that very same climb, not as a student ready to seize the day, but
as a potential applicant eager to learn what this mysterious school had to offer. Was this really all I
was hoping for? Were the students similar to me? As hungry to learn as I was? I soon learned that I

I had completed the process, I proud of the effort I had put into this application, and I was confident
that it had what it took to secure me a place within the KAMSC class of 2018. I sent the forms off,
feeling pleased, but the application soon faded to the back of my mind as I returned my focus to
school. Several months passed before the rumors began to swirl. The acceptance letters were sent this
week, I heard as I walked through the hallways. The excitement I had felt while sending the letter off,
quickly returned. In only a few short days I would know my fate. When the day finally arrived, I
found the signature teal stamped letter from KAMSC in my mailbox, but as I picked it up I realized
that something was wrong. The letter was to thin. I tore it open, hoping that what I was perceiving was
only the result of my nerves, but when I looked down all I could see were two words, wait

Arthur Dimmesdale And Double Life In Hawthorne By...
Isn t it remarkable how Arthur Dimmesdale manages to somehow, for seven years, keep his private
life separate from his public one? In regards to Arthur s behavior, Hawthorne states, No man, for a
considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude without getting
bewildered as to which may be true. To restate Hawthorne s quote: no one can be true to him or
herself, while lying to everyone because soon enough one will confuse the act with reality. Having a
Dimmesdale s style of living results in living a double life, plenty of penance, and self damage
affecting loved ones.
First off, when someone walks around with two faces, he or she will begin to live with two distinct
lives as well. For example, Dimmesdale is seen as the greatest saint in the Puritan community, but he
is secretly holding onto an unrepented sin. His humanly desires get the best of him when he commits
adultery with Hester Prynne and hence produces an elf child named Pearl. The sinner is put on a
pedestal and adored by his congregation in broad daylight. On the other hand, he is self convicted
through severe physical and mental reprimanding in the middle of the night. In the novel, Hawthorne
explains, In Mr. Dimmesdale s secret closet, under lock and key, there was a bloody scourge...he kept
his vigils... until his knees trembled beneath him...sometimes in utter darkness...his brain often reeled
and visions seemed to flit before him... (Hawthorne 141). At Dimmesdale s Election

wearing designer shoes even when you re doing something so casual. I enjoy listening to the kind of
music that Future produces. The brand Gucci is usually represented by rap music. Rappers live very

Critical Analysis Of Forman One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
McMurphy points out that Nurse Ratchet is the one who pecks the first peck , and then sits back and
watches the patients attack each other. He does not comprehend why the patients succumb to this
technique, particularly since they may be next in line as the object of criticism. The patients do appear
to have blinders on; they are so blinded by their own disgrace that they cannot see Ratched s actual
nature and the way she manipulates and controls them so easily. Nurse Ratchet held in place an
extensive system of rules and regulations, as well as an ordered routine. McMurphy taught the patients
that sometimes it is acceptable to rebel against the rules and that they do not have to rely on their
schedule to keep their minds together. For example, McMurphy states Is that what your schedule does
for you? (Forman One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Film). The schedule is a part of the
institutionalization of power that Nurse Ratched employs to maintain control and keep the patients
compliant to her sense of order. McMurphy points out that it is in fact a sham that cannot cover the
messiness of real life. Obviously, they all realize that the schedule is only a made up method for
arranging time. Be that as it may, none of them have ever been able to admit it. Other patients on the
ward begin to stand up to Nurse Ratchet and her rules. For instance, Cheswick hollers Rules? Piss on
your fucking rules, Miss Ratched! (Forman One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Film). A momentary
outburst from Cheswick is an indicator that McMurphy has been able to model a sense of indignance
at all of their treatment, and this is now being emulated by other patients through their behaviour
towards Nurse Ratched. Another instance of patients talking down to Ratchet is when Sefelt states
Maybe he ll just show Nurse Ratched his big thing and she ll open the door for him. (Forman One
Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Film). In this statement the use of sexual language is about
empowerment. This makes reference to the possibility that McMurphy holds the key to their liberation
from Nurse Ratchet s control through his capacity to dominate her both sexually and otherwise. His
ability to stand up to her and challenge her has captured Sefelt s

Why Is Jfk Assassination Wrong
JFK assassination... is false The JFK assassination is said to be done by only one person, but this essay
will tell you that it is wrong. It is said the Oswald is the sole sniper that killed the president. Well,
Oswald did shot the gun, but he did not kill the President, someone else worked with Oswald on this
assassination. In this court case, Oswald and Oswald alone was proven guilty for killing the President.
Oswald had gotten killed later from a gunshot before he went to prison. In the 1963 controversial
court case of JFK assassination, the guilty verdict incorrectly prosecuted only Lee Harvey Oswald
because of the direction of the bullet, the Grassy Knoll, and the CIA involvement. Oswald did shoot
the gun, but it was not the shot that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, CIA helped him get the job where he shot JFK. Former CIA friends of Oswald gave him the job
where he shot the president just three weeks before it all happened, (Daily Mail). Oswald got help
from the CIA. The CIA gave him a perfect spot to shoot the president. If he didn t get that job, then
JFK wouldn t have gotten shot. Next, a former CIA agent confessed to the inside job. A good quote
about this is, You kill the president, and your cover is security, and if the sniper or snipers who kill the
president are hidden in with the guys who are supposed to protect him, guys who have no knowledge
of this plot... It makes a lot of sense, (DailyMail) This goes back to the Grassy Knoll. He is talking
about the other people and how they shot JFK, but didn t get caught because they are part of the team
that is tasked to finding the murderer. That is why no one caught the other shooter because he is part
of the law. Lastly, the CIA has a special tactic. This tactic is when you have different snipers at
different locations so it catches people in a crossfire in more than one direction, (DailyMail). The
tactic that they used in the JFK assassination is one that the CIA has been using for years. It s a simple
tactic, you shoot the suspect from different angles so they can t find cover. Oswald shot the first shot
and hit JFK in the chest and then the second sniper dealt the killing blow. The CIA was definitely
involved, the

Water Management Case Study
Using named examples, assess the contribution of large scale water management projects in increasing
water security. 15 Water security means having access to sufficient, safe, clean and affordable water.
Theoretically, the world s poorer countries are the most water insecure, suffering from both physical
and economic water scarcity. One solution to tackle water insecurity is through large scale water
projects for example the Three Gorges project in China, the South North transfer project also in China
and the restoration of the Aral Sea. However there is much controversy over whether these schemes
are actually sustainable and therefore beneficial in the long run. The Three Gorges da project in China

This money is being used to build a second dam, after the successful $68 million dam that split the sea
into two and already filling the northern sea up. Although this has seen fishermen s business improve
along with returning rain, the problem on the Uzbekistan border is yet to be solved with the southern
sea still shrinking. The economy of Uzbekistan is struggling to fix this problem as their economy
heavily depends of cash crops which are not being produced due to the lack of water and irrigation of
cotton fields. An additional problem for Uzbekistan is that their headwaters are controlled by other
countries. This problem is exacerbated by the part of the world they re in and any change could easily
trigger conflict from neighbouring countries. To conclude, although large water management schemes
due in some cases increase water security for the intended target destination, there are many other
factors which need to be considered deeply to evaluate whether the economic costs as well as the
environmental and social costs are worth sacrificing for what the project will

  • 2. Examples Of Symbolic Interactionism Of Marijuana Marijuana is a very well known and commonly used drug. Yet, there are many different attitudes and meanings attached to it. So why is there such a variation in people s attitudes towards marijuana. This can be explained and understood by using the symbolic interactionism theory. Marijuana is a very controversial topic among Americans and much research has been done regarding it. The Pew Research Center has gathered information on the opinions Americans have towards the legalization of marijuana. The data shows what percentage of Americans think it should be legal or not. There is also data on reasons why they have their opinions and meanings toward marijuana. This data helps to further understand and apply this theory to the use of marijuana. Symbolic interactionism perspective is a theory that is used to study social life. To do this, this theory relies on studying and observing the interactions among people and how they form meanings to things from those interactions. Although, there is much more to this theory than that. Blumer, the man who invented the term symbolic interactionism, presented three premises which help to understand this theory. The first one is, people act a certain way towards things depending on their meaning for that thing. The second premise is that we get meanings from social interaction, so we are taught meanings or we witness them from others. Lastly, the third premise is that meanings are able to change because people have the mental capacity to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Faouzi NOURI GIRONES CIT 071807 Compare and contrast traditional and modern families Since the nineteenth century, in the western societies, family patterns changed under the forces of industrialisation and urbanisation. Another factor which has been involved in those changes is the growing intervention of the state, by legislative action, in the domestic affairs of the family. As the statistics shown in the United Kingdom in 2001, 155 000 fathers were stay home husbands. All in all, the emphasis on nurturing children can be seen in traditional and modern families, alike. Apart from the similarities mentioned above, traditional and modern families have several differences in the areas of family size and gender roles. One major difference between the traditional and modern family is the decrease in family size. The traditional family tends to be extended with three or more generations in the same household because it provides a strong union between its members. The theory of scientific management, first introduced by Frederick W. Taylor (1912, pp. 37 39) proposes that the driving force behind a man s work is receiving a monetary reward. On the other hand the theory of human relations, as suggested by Mary Parker Follet (1926, pp. 58 65) and later validated by the Hawthorne experiments conducted in the 1930s (Shafritz and Hyde, 2012) propose that the driving force ... According to the latest IEA report, global electric car stock surpassed 2 million vehicles in 2016. However, electric vehicles still only account for 0.2 per cent of all the cars in the world [ ]. If history books tell us anything, it is that the some of the most important and powerful countries had their beginnings in early global trade. One of the most well known countries which took to the high seas in their venture to dominate global trade is Portugal. Their story has been told and re told time and time again, always positioning them as a leader during the Age of Discovery, a time in which finding the fastest overseas trade routes for items such as spices lead to other discoveries as well. Portugal s role in the global illegal trafficking of drugs and human beings is a controversial and hot button issue on a multitude of socio political levels. • 24. Genetic Modification Pros And Cons Most parents would want their child to be free of disease, impairment or maybe even want them to be perfect. Genetic modification provides the opportunity for parents to edit their child s genome while still inside the mother s embryo. For example, Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats, or CRISPR for short, is an editing technique that in short, is like two pairs of scissors. When a virus infects a cell, it inserts its RNA into the cell s DNA and tricks the cell into replicating hundreds of viruses until the cell bursts and the newly created viruses target new unsuspecting cells. CRISPR finds and cuts the RNA that the virus injected into the cell multiple times until it turns into small, separate pieces that pose no threat to the cell and then creates a normal cell. This also passes down through generations, so the offspring of whoever had CRISPR is now also immune to that certain virus. CRISPR also can edit human features, change skin or eye color, or maybe make them stronger. Genetic modification is the right direction if parents want their child to live a good life. ... • 25. The Classical Nuclear Deterrence Strategy During The Cold War The classical nuclear deterrence strategy used during the Cold War would require some modifications in order to be effective against non state actors in the 21st century. The United States and the Soviet Union had enough nuclear weapons between the two superpowers that deterred both from using. This was because it would not be beneficial socially or economically for either in the long term. Non state actors are not equal in most respects to state actors and sometimes considered not deterrable , so therefore a modified approach may prove more effective. The basic definition of deterrence is the concept of providing the enemy with enough evidence that any attempt to attack would result in far greater consequences for the aggressor. General ... Former United States president Dwight D. A warning issue may include what the mission consists of, coordinating instructions, deadline, and who is all responsible for seeing this task is seen through. Up until now, it was merely receiving orders of what to do and who is a part of the plan. Step 3 is all about the plan for mission essentials, analysis, specific and implied tasks, and a restated mission report. The responsibility for this step is something not for the weak minded as no situation is the same. Throughout history our country has had many leaders. Whether you re the leader of a business, military platoon, or the leader of our great nation you were withheld with the honor and trust to govern the actions and best interests of fellow Americans. • 27. MWO Position Paper Background The Vice Chief of Staff of the Army approved the position for the 882A Mobility Warrant Officer (MWO) in July 1997. His original vision for the MWO was to embed them in the 10 active Divisions and the two interim brigade combat teams (IBCTs) at that time. Their initial success in these roles and increased world deployments led to a demand for these deployment experts at every level of command. MWOs where soon assigned to the 10 divisions, 2 SBCTs, 8 transportation movement control battalions (MCB), and 2 transportation groups (Lieutenant Colonel Peter B. Everitt, 2016). According to a recent report pulled from FMS Web, there are currently 173 authorized MWO positions in the US Army. (USAFMSA, 2016) These assignments range from the Movement Control Battalion (MCB) level to the regional and strategic command levels. BCT modularity and increased deployments over the past 15 years has validated the need for mobility experts at every level of command. • 31. Arthur Dimmesdale And Double Life In Hawthorne By... Isn t it remarkable how Arthur Dimmesdale manages to somehow, for seven years, keep his private life separate from his public one? In regards to Arthur s behavior, Hawthorne states, No man, for a considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude without getting bewildered as to which may be true. To restate Hawthorne s quote: no one can be true to him or herself, while lying to everyone because soon enough one will confuse the act with reality. Having a Dimmesdale s style of living results in living a double life, plenty of penance, and self damage affecting loved ones. First off, when someone walks around with two faces, he or she will begin to live with two distinct lives as well. For example, Dimmesdale is seen as the greatest saint in the Puritan community, but he is secretly holding onto an unrepented sin. His humanly desires get the best of him when he commits adultery with Hester Prynne and hence produces an elf child named Pearl. The sinner is put on a pedestal and adored by his congregation in broad daylight. On the other hand, he is self convicted through severe physical and mental reprimanding in the middle of the night. In the novel, Hawthorne explains, In Mr. Dimmesdale s secret closet, under lock and key, there was a bloody scourge...he kept his vigils... until his knees trembled beneath him...sometimes in utter darkness...his brain often reeled and visions seemed to flit before him... • 33. Critical Analysis Of Forman One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest McMurphy points out that Nurse Ratchet is the one who pecks the first peck , and then sits back and watches the patients attack each other. He does not comprehend why the patients succumb to this technique, particularly since they may be next in line as the object of criticism. The patients do appear to have blinders on; they are so blinded by their own disgrace that they cannot see Ratched s actual nature and the way she manipulates and controls them so easily. Nurse Ratchet held in place an extensive system of rules and regulations, as well as an ordered routine. McMurphy taught the patients that sometimes it is acceptable to rebel against the rules and that they do not have to rely on their schedule to keep their minds together. For example, McMurphy states Is that what your schedule does for you? (Forman One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Film). The schedule is a part of the institutionalization of power that Nurse Ratched employs to maintain control and keep the patients compliant to her sense of order. McMurphy points out that it is in fact a sham that cannot cover the messiness of real life. Obviously, they all realize that the schedule is only a made up method for arranging time. Be that as it may, none of them have ever been able to admit it. Other patients on the ward begin to stand up to Nurse Ratchet and her rules. For instance, Cheswick hollers Rules? Piss on your fucking rules, Miss Ratched! (Forman One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Film). A momentary outburst from Cheswick is an indicator that McMurphy has been able to model a sense of indignance at all of their treatment, and this is now being emulated by other patients through their behaviour towards Nurse Ratched. Another instance of patients talking down to Ratchet is when Sefelt states Maybe he ll just show Nurse Ratched his big thing and she ll open the door for him. (Forman One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Film). In this statement the use of sexual language is about empowerment. This makes reference to the possibility that McMurphy holds the key to their liberation from Nurse Ratchet s control through his capacity to dominate her both sexually and otherwise. His ability to stand up to her and challenge her has captured Sefelt s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this court case, Oswald and Oswald alone was proven guilty for killing the President. Oswald had gotten killed later from a gunshot before he went to prison. A good quote about this is, You kill the president, and your cover is security, and if the sniper or snipers who kill the president are hidden in with the guys who are supposed to protect him, guys who have no knowledge of this plot... It makes a lot of sense, (DailyMail) This goes back to the Grassy Knoll. He is talking about the other people and how they shot JFK, but didn t get caught because they are part of the team that is tasked to finding the murderer. That is why no one caught the other shooter because he is part of the law. Lastly, the CIA has a special tactic. This tactic is when you have different snipers at different locations so it catches people in a crossfire in more than one direction, (DailyMail). The tactic that they used in the JFK assassination is one that the CIA has been using for years. It s a simple tactic, you shoot the suspect from different angles so they can t find cover. Water Management Case Study Using named examples, assess the contribution of large scale water management projects in increasing water security. 15 Water security means having access to sufficient, safe, clean and affordable water. Theoretically, the world s poorer countries are the most water insecure, suffering from both physical and economic water scarcity. One solution to tackle water insecurity is through large scale water projects for example the Three Gorges project in China, the South North transfer project also in China and the restoration of the Aral Sea. The economy of Uzbekistan is struggling to fix this problem as their economy heavily depends of cash crops which are not being produced due to the lack of water and irrigation of cotton fields.
