- Agriculture Opportunities in the Cordillera Region is varied and extensive, from the production stage to processing stage.
- Opportunities in the agriculture sector in the region is commodity-based. With its varied geo-physical characteristics, commodities vary from province to province. We have many types and varieties of commodities in the region. However, we have commodities which we have the comparative advantage over other regions and we have our winner commodities. Winner commodities are: Rice = particularly the major commodity in Kalinga, Apayao, Abra and lowland Ifugao. Corn = is likewise a commodity champion of lowland Ifugao, Kalinga (Pinukpok and Rizal), lower Apayao and of Abra. On the other hand, Semi-Temperate Vegetables remain to be the champion commodity of Benguet, western Mountain Province and Highland Ifugao. The regionwide commodity champion is coffee.
- There are many commodities grown in the region, with its varied physical characteristics. The major commodities are the following: For Abra, Kalinga and Apayao: Palay is the major Temporary Crop But for Ifugao and Mountain Province: Palay is the second major Temporary Crops next to Corn As expected for Benguet: Leafy vegetables, tubers (white potato), roots (carrots), stems and flowers are the major temporary crops, accounting 17,049 has. out of a total of 29,983 has. physical cultivated lands, which are planted 2.04 times a year on the average
- The second commodity having great potentials and that offers extensive opportunities is semi-temperate vegetables. This is because, semi-temperate vegetables contributes 30-35% of the region’s GVA on Agriculture. The region is the major supplier of semi-temperate vegetables in the whole country. It provides livelihood for 97,350 farmers and farm-workers.
