1. Various lines to be accessed in pelvis Xrays

The various lines to assess in a pelvic x-ray are as follows:-
(1) the iliopectineal line (2) the ilioishchial line (3) the dome of the acetabulum (4) the “tear
drop” (5) the anterior rim of the acetabulum (6) the posterior rim of the acetabulum (7)

(1)The iliopectineal line is the radiographiclandmark for the anterior column. It begins at the
sciatic notch and travels along the superiorpubicramus to the pubis symphysis as in fig .If
abnormal may cause anterior column fracture including acetabulum, sacrum,pubic symphysis.

2. (2)The ilioischial line is the radiographiclandmarkfor the posterior column. It begins at the
sciatic notch and courses inferiorly to the medial border of the ischium. It should pass
through the acetabularteardrop as in fig .If abnormal may cause posterior column fracture .
(3)The dome of the acetabulum is the roof of the accetabulum as in fig above.
(4)The “tear drop” to evaluate the anteroinferior portion of the acetabular fossa as in fig
above.
(5)The anterior rim of the acetabulum as shown in fig above .
(6)The posterior rim of the acetabulum as shown in fig above.
(7) Shenton line is an imaginary curved line drawn along the inferior border of the superior
pubic ramus (superior border of the obturator foramen) and along the inferomedial border of
the neck of femur. This line should be continuous and smooth as in fig .If disrupted, can
indicate fracture of femoral neck.May also indicate developmental dysplasia of hip .
(8)Sacral accurate lines - The vertical lines of sacral areas as shown in figure above.
(9)Line of Klein line along superior femoral neck that will intersect epiphysis.If abnormal, may
indicate slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE).

3. (10)Hilgenreiner line -These are horizontal line connecting triradiate cartilages.
If abnormal, may indicate developmental dysplasia of hip.
(11) Perkin’s line - These are vertical through lateral edge of acetabulum.
If abnormal, may indicate developmental dysplasia of hip .
