Creator In Frankenstein
What is the relationship and the responsibility between creator and the created? In the novel
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, this is the question proposed throughout the entirety of the story. In the
story, there are many references and comparisons to God, Adam, and Lucifer. Adam being God s
perfect creation and Lucifer being the exiled devil. The relationship between the creator and the
created should be like that of God and Adam. The creator is responsible for the actions of their
creation because without the creator there would be no creation. The comparisons of Frankenstein and
the Creature to God and Adam in the novel roots deeply into the mind of the reader. Both Victor and
God created life from non living things. God created Adam from ... Show more content on

Upon learning to read, the Creature read Paradise lost by John Milton. Paradise Lost, in summary, is
about the fall of Lucifer and the other rebel angels; and their plan to corrupt God s new creation,
mankind ( Paradise Lost Plot Overview). After the Creature read Paradise Lost he states that, [Adam]
had come forth from the hands of God a perfect creature, happy and prosperous, guarded by the
especial care of his Creator; he was allowed to converse with and acquire knowledge from beings of a
superior nature: but I was wretched, helpless, and alone. Many times I considered Satan as the fitter
emblem of my condition; for often, like him, when I viewed the bliss of my protectors, the bitter gall
of envy rose within me (92). Satan is the name given to Lucifer after his exile from Heaven. But the
Creature shares traits with both Satan and Adam. Like Satan, the Creature was exiled by his Creator;
but Satan was exiled because he waged war on God. Satan believed he was of equal or greater strength
than that of his creator (Milton 31). The Creature was exiled by Victor simply due to Victor s own
ignorance as to what he was

Analysis Of The Film La Bamba
The film La Bamba showcases one of the most important historical moments in not only music history
but also Latino music history. The star Lou Diamond, portrays Ritchie Valens originally Valenzuela.
Ritchie was a boy who did not grow up in a normal childhood. In the film Valens played by Lou
diamond is shown working hard alongside his mother Connie trying to make an honest living. His
older brother Bob finds his way to his mother and young brother convincing them both to leave the
fruit fields where they were working. While Ritchie should have been at school he was working. Once
they moved to Los Angeles, Ritchie started attending high school like a normal teen should. His love
for music grew strong as he became fond of a young girl named Donna. Donna was from a middle
class white family, while Ritchie was from a poor Latino American family. Donna s parents wanted to
keep the two apart from each other as her father did not approve of the romance because Ritchie had
nothing to offer his daughter. Ritchie had nothing to offer Donna but his music and hope of someday
making a name for himself. One day Ritchie and his band mates are having a show and a man by the
name of Bob Keane stops by to see the performance, while there Keane shows a great interest in
Ritchie and reaches out to him. Keane soon convinces Valens that he didn t need his band mates, that
Ritchie was all the talent. Bob Keane not only manages to get Ritchie to drop his band, but he also

Okonkwo s Foil
Opposites attract. This is a very cliché quote used by physicists and other scientific personnel, but it
rings true in many different ways. In literature, the correct term for a character that sets off or
enhances another character by contrast is called a foil. Pairs of characters that are foils to each other
have very opposing views and personalities, but their presence with each other illustrates the qualities
in a better light. The book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a fictional novel which includes a
main character named Okonkwo. Okonkwo has some very distinguishing features about him, but the
fact that he has a foil in the novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Okonkwo explains to Obierika how he would strive to have a son like his because he is so
strong and mighty, Obierika answers with a very pacifying response. You worry yourself for nothing,
said Obierika. The children are still very young. (Achebe 66). This passage shows that Obierika is not
so concerned about power and supremacy.
Because of the contrast in Obierika s traits, he is definitely a foil to Okonkwo because Okonkwo is
very strong minded, dogmatic, and hot tempered. If something does not go his way, Okonkwo will do
something very irrational about it. When Okonkwo asked his second wife where his third wife,
Ojiugo, was he became angered because his second wife lied to him about Ojiugo s whereabouts. He
walked back to his obi to await Ojiugo s return. And when she returned he beat her very heavily
(Achebe 29). Okonkwo s rationale of beating his third wife was in very poor judgment because he
beat her during the Week of Peace. The Week of Peace was a week among the tribes where there was
supposed to be no violence. This shows that Okonkwo has a very short temper and he does not tolerate
nearly as much as Obierika can tolerate.
Not only does Okonkwo differ from Obierika in the fact of their personality traits, but Obierika is a
foil to Okonkwo because of Okonkwo s hunger for power. Okonkwo himself was known as the most
powerful man in his village because he threw Amalinze the Cat, who was a great wrestler who had

Passivity and Impotence in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Passivity and Impotence in Frankenstein
There are many ways to interpret a literary text, especially one as laden with ethical questions and
literary allegory as Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. Shelley s complex family dynamic her conflicted
relationship with her father, her need to please her mentor/husband with literary success, her infants
deaths enhances the intrigue of the novel and suggests multiple themes and layered meanings. One
discernible theme in Frankenstein is illuminated by the bold line that separates male character from
female: The men inevitably fail the women whom they claim to love, but the women are maddeningly
passive, seemingly blind to the men s inadequacies. Here, however, this passivity is a ... Show more

Though weak, she has enough intelligence to realize which choice will serve her better.
Elizabeth s lack of force and tepid presence in the book Victor s descriptions of her generous nature
notwithstanding mirror Victor s weaknesses. His follies are the meat of Frankenstein, and though his
initial failure to study the right books can be blamed on Alfonse, the rest of the book s mayhem lays
squarely on his shoulders.
Victor glorifies his own childhood and his parents responsibility for his happiness when he describes
it, With this deep consciousness of what they owed towards the being to which they had given life...I
received a lesson of patience, of charity, and of self control... (33).
Unfortunately, he absorbs none of their parental talent or compassion. When Victor creates the hideous
Monster, he abandons the Monster and essentially abandons the world on which the Monster is
unleashed. Victor s failure as a father to the Monster is the second link in the chain of death swung by
the Monster at William, Clerval, Elizabeth, and by default, Justine.
Like Alfonse, Victor excels at female worship but falls a step beyond Alfonse s well meaning
ineptitude into a deep crag of impotence. Throughout the novel, Victor speaks of Elizabeth in

Carol Ann Duffy Poems Analysis
Originally Introduction Memories play a significant role in the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy, particularly
her recollections of childhood places and events. The poem Originally, published in The Other
Country (1990), draws specifically from memories of Duffy s family s move from Scotland to
England when she and her siblings were very young. The first born child, Duffy was just old enough
to feel a deep sense of personal loss and fear as she traveled farther and farther away from the only
place she had known as home and the family neared its alien destination. This sentiment is captured in
Originally, in which it is described in the rich detail and defining language of both the child who has
had the experience and the adult who recalls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hate name of the racists is sprayed on a brick wall the harshness and unyielding nature of which is
symbolic of the mentality of those who do such things. The unfamiliar, snowy weather and artificial
neon lights create the impression for the immigrant that the country moved to is coming to bits . This
image of fragmentation is, though, not entirely imaginary as he or she has a life splintered from all
that is familiar and constantly experiences a sense of alienation. The italicised words at the close of the
poem give voice to the immigrant but this only gives away a difficulty with English. The unfinished
verbs, Me not know and It like they only... are drawn attention to by Duffy in order that the reader
may ponder what it would be like to face the same language problem. The final words of the poem,
Imagine that remind us of the opening and there is quite a clear impression that Duffy is adopting an
undisguised didactic stance. As a skilled and empowered user of the English language herself she is
drawing attention to the lot of those who are marginalised because of their deficiency in its use. Carol

Case Study On Periodontitis
Periodontal disease is very common, and is widely regarded as the second most common dental
disease worldwide after dental caries. Periodontitis is initiated by gram negative tooth associated
microbial biofilm that elicit a host response which result in bone and soft tissue destruction. The chief
treatment modality for periodontal health is scaling and root planing either during surgical
intervention or in a non surgical approach with the endpoint of bringing a root surface that is
biologically acceptable for healing processes. [1] These mechanical procedures are accomplished by
using sonic ultrasonic, manual and rotary instruments with the intention of removing subgingival
biofilm, calculus endotoxins from the root surface and also to accomplish a maintainable ... Show

The time required for scaling and root planing with each instruments were measured by using
stopwatch from the start, until the root surface appeared smooth upon visual examination and check
with an explorer. The teeth samples were sectioned longitudinally to obtain the proximal instrumented
surfaces using a diamond disc mounted on a slow speed handpiece with water coolant. The crowns
were then resected at cement enamel junction with help of diamond disc. Specimens were obtained
from the cervical 2/3rd to middle 1/3rd of root.Preparation of root specimens for SEM study
Following the mechanical treatment, all specimens were dehydrated in graded series of isopropyl
alcohol (50%, 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100% as the final step). The specimens were kept for half an hour
in all graded series of isopropyl alcohol and for 1 hour in 100% isopropyl alcohol. The specimens
were dried for half an hour and then mounted on the aluminium stub with an adhesive tape. Further
procedure for specimens sputter coating and examination under SEM was carried out at Forensic

A Brief Note On The Sun And The Circumstances Of The...
Racism the word has a harsh sound to the ear and racism s effects deliver a harsh reality to victims.
The novel Raisin in the Sun and the circumstances of the Moulin Rouge Hotel Casino in Las Vegas,
Nevada, tell how racism destroyed dreams and crushed the soul through discrimination and lost
opportunity. But there s another side to the racism story. For some of the oppressed, discrimination
and hardship will be fought with perseverance and achievement. In both the fictional Raisin in the Sun
and the historical Moulin Rouge Casino, a black woman, against great odds, will achieve personal and
historic success. Racism in America directed toward black people originated over 300 years ago with
the first importation of black slaves into the America from Africa (Frederickson). While great progress
in eliminating explicit racism has taken place, American society has far to go in ensuring that blacks
have the same protections, advantages and freedoms as whites. Racial discrimination in this country
continues to harm millions of black Americans whether it is through an inferior education, unfair
treatment in the judicial and law enforcement systems or delivery of sub optimal health care. While
the government can play a role in solving this problem with legislation, equitable law enforcement and
national education, it will also take a recognition of the problem and then a focused, long term effort
by generations of families to acknowledge and remove the many stumbling blocks of

The Intervention Of Biotechnology On Life Takes Two Forms...
The intervention of biotechnology in life takes two forms of therapy and enhancement. Andrew
Lustig, author of the article Enhancement Technologies and the Person: Christian Perspectives, defines
both accordingly, saying that therapy is generally defined as the prevention or cure of disease, or as
the restoration or approximation of return to normal physiological function. Enhancement is defined
as the alteration of individual (or group) characteristics, traits, and abilities (both health and non health
related) beyond a measurable baseline of normal function (41). Therapy is focused on restoration of
our integrity while assisting natural physiology, whereas enhancement is focused on alteration of our
physiology. For example, say a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deliberating further about the distinction between enhancements and therapy, the theological ethicist
Richard Niebuhr outlines categories that describe how Christians have related to the culture at various
times in history with regards to his book Christ in Culture (Chesire 77). After examining each of the
five categories and contrasting them with Catholic moral theology and Catholic teaching, I believe the
category Christ against enhancement is the most accurate, which Niebuhr explains in that the radical
Christian regards culture as deeply corrupted by original sin. Within this perspective, biomedical
enhancements, being part of culture, work to transmit the destructive effects of sin and have the
potential to magnify human depravity (qtd. in Chesire 77). Therefore, technology associated with
bioenhancements that magnifies the corruption of human morality is part of that culture. I think the
Christ against enhancement is accurate to what the Church would believe because it is comprehensible
with Catholic moral theology. Although, the Church is accepting of therapy due to its purely medical
purpose. In therapy, as Pope Benedict XVI put it in his pre papacy Instruction on Respect for Human
Life, applied biology and medicine work together for the integral good of human life [and] come to
the aid of a person stricken by illness...respect[ing] his or her dignity as a creature of God (7). This

Advantages Of Neoconservatism In International Relations
Neoconservatism in International Relations
Neoconservatives have faith in the might of the American Army and its predominance at the level of
labor, gear and advancement. They trust that the US has the military intends to reshape the world as
per its own particular advantages, and thusly, they tend to benefit military control over tact. Like
Jacksonians, Neocons hate multilateral organizations and have a tendency to see them as feeble and
wasteful. They like to act singularly, regardless of the possibility that it implies violating global law.
This carelessness comes from the Neocon adoration for the RMA, Revolution in the Military Affairs,
which means a dependence on stealth innovation, air conveyed accuracy guided weapons and versatile
ground powers. Precisely what the Bush organization would convey in Afghanistan and Iraq. The
Wilsonian side of Neoconservatism is clear in the development s advancement of the
internationalization of law based govern to whatever number places as could reasonably be expected.
The Neocon mind is Manichean and trusts that the world partitions into great states and awful states,
and that majority rules systems have amiable expectations, notwithstanding the vote based peace
hypothesis which asserts that popular governments don t run at war with each other. Thus the more the
U.S. democratizes the less danger of wars there is. This is the thing that Francis Fukuyama basically
called the finish of history . Obviously the occasions of 9 11 put

Basic Financial Concepts and Pinkerton
Executive Summary. Wathen is attempting to value the proposed acquisition of Pinkerton in an effort
to determine whether bids of $85 million to $100 million is value enhancing for CPP s shareholders.
Additionally, Wathen must choose between two financing options: (1) raising $100 Million via a $75
million debt structure at 11.5% interest rate together with a $25 million equity investment for a 45%
stake in the combined company and (2) a $100 million debt facility at 13.5% interest rate. General
Assumption. We assumed that Wackenhut is comparable to Pinkerton, and therefore that Wackenhut s
asset beta reflects that of Pinkerton. Additionally, we assumed that Pinkerton s bond rating is A. As
such, we assumed a debt service ratio for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the synergies expected, the value to CPP increases by $14.6 Million (see exhibit 4). Generally
for the particular small firms to maintain rating of A, the firms have to maintain a debt service ratio of
6. Hence it is practical to assume interest coverage ratio of 6.0x in the long term for Pinkerton in this
case. Pinkerton gets benefit from 34% tax shield, which account for the value of $15.4 Million (see
exhibit 5). Therefore, as calculated in exhibit 6, the total value of Pinkerton from 3 sources to CPP in
expected case is $119.7 Million. This is higher than the $100 million asking price. Financing: Free
cash flow after debt service is still positive in both options. For the value to existing shareholder, as
option 1 CPP gives premium of $15.2 Million over $25 Million for 45% stake of CPP to investors,
option 2 of $100 Million Debt would be more preferable. Pessimistic Case Valuation: We then
perform the valuation exactly the same method as expected case. The value of Pinkerton with less
gross margin and more working capital needed is $67.1 Million (See exhibit 9 for 5 years valuation
and exhibit 10 for terminal value). With lower performance, the value of 34% tax shield is also lower
to $10.8 Million (see exhibit 12). Without any additional incremental value to CPP (exhibit 11), total
Pinkerton value from 3 sources is $77.9 Million (exhibit 13), which is even less than the original
proposed value of $85 Million from Wathen. Financing:

Who is the genius that created things like the pulley systems and fulcrums? His name is Archimedes.
Archimedes was a Greek mathematician, as well as a physicist, engineer, inventor and astronomer.
There is not a whole lot that is known about Archimedes, but he is regarded as a leading scientist in
classical age. Archimedes designed and created very innovated machine and tools that are still used to
this day. Archimedes was also considered one of the greatest mathematicians of the ancient world and
also plainly one of the greatest all time. The life of Archimedes, the machines he created, books he

The last days of Archimedes life was amidst a very long war. Archimedes died in 212 BC during the
Second Punic War, which was when a roman force under the command of General Marcus Claudius
Marcellus captured the city of Syracuse, which the siege ended up lasting for two years long.
According to an account from Plutarch, Archimedes was working on a mathematical diagram while
the city was being under attacked and captured. The Roman soldier commanded that Archimedes
come with him and meet General Marcellus but Archimedes declined the offer. The soldier did not
want to hear it and being frustrated he killed Archimedes with a sword. The account that Plutarch gave
isn t very clear, because assumably he may have been killed while trying to surrender to a Roman
Soldier. General Marcellus was angered by the death of Archimedes, because he saw him as a valuable
scientific asset and he actually had previously order him not to be dead. Archimedes was an incredibly
smart inventor and designer of some radical machines. One invention that Archimedes is known for is
the death ray. According to the 2nd century AD author Lucian, during the Siege of Syracuse,
Archimedes destroyed ships with fire. Centuries later, another writer named Anthemius of Tralles
mentions that Archimedes used burning glasses as the weapon. The weapon, sometimes called the
Archimedes heat ray , was used to focus the light from the sun and magnify on to the ships burning

Speech On Stuttering In School
As a child I suffered from severe stuttering. I came to America at the age of five therefore, English is
not my primary language. This made it difficult for me to learn English. I had the capacity to develop
abstract ideas and understood what was being told to me. I could not articulate what I wanted to say. I
didn t not have the ability to communicate with others around me. My stuttering was so severe that it
stunted my progress in learning English. The bullying I received in school caused me to become mute
for sometime. My perspective at that time was detrimentally negative. In my mind if I am being
bullied for the way I talk than why talk at all. My elementary school ended putting me in ESOL and
special needs classes. I did not apply myself in school at all and had a lot of unpleasant behavioral
incidents. People don t talk about this much, but I whole heartedly feel like my school kept me in
special needs classes because they receive funding for the amount of special needs children they have.
When I reached fourth grade my ESOL teacher looked at my FCAT scores and fought for me to be put
in a regular class. She motivated me to apply myself, which I did. They eventually took me out of
special needs, gave me more hours of ESOL and made me work with an SLP. Overtime, my stuttering
decreased tremendously. Now, when I get nervous my stuttering comes through but not as much as
before. In general the clip from A fish Called Wanda some what shows an accurate depiction of how

Pengcheng, knowing almost nothing about how the government works (especially those not coming

better. They never use reasons like China is too big to have democracy to rebut the idea, and they
often times complain about human rights in China

Cell Membrane Potential Lab Report
Increase in K+ ions concentration causes increase in membrane potential in crayfish muscle cell
Abstract: The membrane potential of a cell is affected by ions and depends on the electrochemical
gradient and the concentration gradient (Sandstorm et al, 2018). There are multiple ions that affects
the membrane potential including K+, Na+ and Cl but K+ and Na+ affect the membrane potential the
most. In this experiment, we look at how K+ affects the membrane potential by changing K+
concentration levels. A similar experiment was done years ago by Hodgkin and other researchers; we
will be reproducing the results. We first used a model cell to get theoretical values and then we used
the muscle cell of a crayfish to conduct our experiment. We dissected ... Show more content on

The electrical gradient also wants to reach equilibrium in charges so that there is less differences in
charge between the inside and the outside of the cell and the two charges cancel each other out. The
equilibrium potential depends on both forces, the concentration and electrical gradient of the ions.
(Sandstrom et al, 2018). The Nernst equation is used to find the voltage at which one ion reaches its
equilibrium potential and the Goldman equation is used to find the membrane potential when there
more than one ion that affects it and have different permeability.
When the membrane potential of a cell is at equilibrium, or at rest , there is not net movement of ions
across the cell membrane. At rest the equilibrium potential of a muscle cell is between 70 mV and 90
mV due to the high concentration of K+ inside the cell. The inside of the cell is very negative compare
to the outside and when the cell depolarizes, it becomes more positive. A previous research done by P.
Fatt and B. Katz show that an increase in K+ concentration outside the cell causes the most change in
resting potential (Fatt, P et al,

Alcohol Abuse Among College Students
It was once stated on the essay Too Many Colleges Are Still in Denial About Alcohol Abuse that
colleges have a serious problem with alcohol abuse among students, and it s not getting any
better...college presidents viewed alcohol abuse as their top campus life problem (Wechsler 336).
I believe that alcohol consumption is one of the biggest problems we as a society are facing now a
day. We see this as a common activity among college students and sometimes we even encourage it by
letting people believe is a natural thing for teenagers to do. The bigger problem is actually binge
drinking defined as the heavy, episodic use of alcohol (Wechsler 337).
Although many see this as something fun and entertaining, alcohol consumption has many effects on
the life of the drinker and those around him/her.
According to an essay published by College Parents dot com, about four out of five college students
drink alcohol (College Parents). If we think about this, four out of five students drink. But the question
is how many people are actually affected by the drinker s behavior?
Families and friends of those who drink are usually the most affected ones. 87 per cent of non binge
drinkers said they experienced several problems because of other s binge drinking. (Wechsler 338).

drinking, he transforms into a totally different person. There s been times when he has yelled and

The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy Essay
The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy
The poem entitled The Darkling Thrush, written by Thomas Hardy, has a very appealing connotation.
The work can be separated into two parts; the dismal part pertaining to the beginning of winter and the
second part focusing on one small aspect of good in all of the dismal surrounding it. The general idea
of the poem is that the dismal winter is approaching, but there are some incidences of goodness in this
depressing time.
The first part can be sectioned into the first and second stanzas. The poem opens with I leant upon a
coppice gate. This is the moment when the author enters the small wood and begins to narrate his
thoughts and feelings. The next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third stanza is where everything seems to turn around. As the narrator seems to be sitting in this
small wood, they seem to see a thrush, which is a small bird. Lines eighteen through twenty seem to
explain this very simply. They state, At once a voice arouse…in a full hearted evening song. This tells
the reader that under all of this gloom, there is one living aspect and that is this bird.
The fourth and final stanza tells the reader the narrator s new feelings on the winter months. This is
best summed up in the last two lines of the poem. They state, Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
and I was unaware. This states that the narrator feels that winter will soon be ending and the tiny little
thrush showed the narrator this. The narrator now knows that there is a hope of the summer months
coming.
The theme of the poem is to find good meaning in everything and that good is always present in
everything. God does things for a reason and the good may not always be immediately visible, but it is
there and it is our job to search it out. In the case of the poem, the narrator now knows that the warmer
seasons will return to again bring joy and life to everyone.
The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy is a poem written in December of the year 1900. This
coincides with the themes of the poem itself, being a sadness

Indigenous history while others fail to see how the apology has in the years after proven to change the
circumstances of Indigenous peoples. Impacts in areas such as health, education, economic
opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice system are all areas which
should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014). However; as this essay will
explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual fact in some ways the gap has
been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology was a significant historical event
but it is important to explain why it happened before examining the affects it has had on the
Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014). The Apology was more then just
simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by the Australian Government that
previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing thousands of Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be placed with White families and missions
(religious camps which taught children white values essentially removing them from all their cultural
roots) (Creative Spirits, 2014). This practice had incredibly adverse affects on families, the children

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Consortia
(a) Better Service
The library can provide better services to their customers by providing variety and larger collection of
information compare to one single library. Besides, if they develop a policy that allows the users from
the members to borrow the resources among the members, it will give an added advantage to the
member of consortia.
(b) Increase Buying Power
When the buying process conducted using Consortia it will lead to significant savings among the

The House
During the two years I lived in Charlottesville, Virginia, I passed by Monticello everyday on my way
from home to school; I finally went up there to visit right before I left the town. Weaving through the
giant plantation around it, the shuttle took us from the foot of the mountain to the hilltop, where the
house rested. The house was relatively small compared to the size of the field surrounding it. Through
several preservation and minor renovation, the floor we stepped on was still the original. I
remembered walking under the house and circling back through all the servants facilities. All the
dependencies were built into the side of the mountain in a U shape. (Figure 6 7) As for the main house
for Jefferson and his family, the plan of the house showed that several rooms, especially the parlor,
were hexagons, for maximizing daylight in the house, which followed the rounded world concept in
the Pantheon. Also related to this sense, the front of the house were never defined. As in Jefferson s
day, visitors today enter through the columned portico of the East Front into the Entrance Hall. West
entrance is more private use for family and guests. But despite the function of the two entrance, there
was no clear frontality or a single façade that dominated the house. Rounded world represented
Jefferson s vision of the world. Tracing back to his early life, he was well known as the third president
of America. Yet in his legendary life, he only put Author of the

Garrett Hardin Analysis
What is the tragedy of the commons? It is said to be in the 1968 publication in Journal Science by
ecologist and philosopher Garrett Hardin a depletion of the earth s resources, including, but not
limited to overpopulation. Should why should you care? Hardin explains in his article that people tend
to see the world as place of infinite resources, and space when in fact he argues, it is not. Throughout
the article there is undertone of urgency; we have to! it blares, It s too late another voice squeaks, but
in fact, he tells reader directly that is no solution to overpopulation. Throughout the article, Hardin
uses practical reasoning; he quotes scientists and references studies yet readers thoughts on reading
the article may be mixed as

Giant Pandas In China Research Paper
One of the endangered species in the world, Giant pandas, are mostly located in China, but they can be
found in many other zoos in the world. For example, there is a giant panda named Mei Xiang at the
National Zoo in Washington, D.C, who actually just gave birth to her baby cub in 2013. China first
started giving pandas to other countries, with no strings attached until the 1950 s and decided to make
a profit out of lending pandas to other countries. The Chinese government took advantage of the
popularity of the pandas and created relationships with other countries in the world. China and the US
naturally formed a relationship after China offered the giant pandas to show their gratitude to
President Nixon after visiting their country. But China

Bureaucratic Authoritarian Regimes
A Comparative Study of Brazil and Chile
Just a few short decades ago, bureaucratic authoritarian (BA) regimes were a common feature of many
Southern Cone states. Economic crises in the 1960s and 1970s gave rise to military regimes that
ultimately abandoned import substituting, inward looking developmental models in favor of
neoliberal, outward looking strategies (Kurtz, 142). Market liberalization and participation in the
global economy became state priorities, a significant departure from policies that focused on
production for the domestic market under more leftist regimes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the effects of a

At one time JCPenney was considered the pentacle of discount shopping and was consistently
growing. A heavy recession in 1974 was the first major obstacle for JCPenney and from there on
forward it seemed difficult for the retailer to make progress in the magnitude it had the previous years;
however the retailer continued to make profits. In 1998 JCPenney introduced its online catalog
service; in the beginnings JCPenney s catalog was strictly paper and a major player in its business
strategy and profits. The introduction of the online shopping proved extremely beneficial for the
company due to the online boom of the late 90 s and early 2000 s. Today JCPenney finds itself at a
very interesting cross roads. In the summer of 2011 JCPenney welcomed new CEO Ron Johnson, a
former Apple executive. This was a major move for JCPenney considering the recent years showed a
steady decline in profits and Market share. Store closings were becoming a regular thing and the
Executive committee saw Ron Johnson, who has had major success in retail, as a chance to turn the
company around. On February 1, 2012 the company launched its new strategy centered on Fair and
Square Pricing. This is the first stage of many changes to come according to Ron Johnson. The

What Are The Four Layers Of The Contextual Theory Of...
When communicators are interacting with others, there are many behavioral and psychological facets
that influences their judgment. Kim s Theory makes up four layers that portrays how and why people
interact the way they do. The communicator layer will be examined through the dissection of identity
inclusivity, identity exclusivity, identity security and identity insecurity.
The Four Layers of the Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication Young Yun Kim s
Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication comprises of four layers: the environment, the
situation, the communicator, and the behavior. All of these layers work together in order to create what
Kim calls a communication event (Kim, 2005). When interethnic communication occurs, the
communicators identify some form of distinctiveness from the conversational partner in terms of
ethnicity or other identity aspects. The environment layer describes the larger social setting, so aspects
such as institutional influences. The next layer, the situation, is ingrained in the environment layer.
According to Kim, the situation layer describes the actual interethnic meeting. In this context, the
communicator will engage with their conversational partner(s) (Kim, 2005). Following the situation
layer is the communicator layer. This gets more specific with the personal identities of the
communicator and the people they are interacting with. The communicator layer will be the focus of
this paper. Lastly, the behavioral layer

Nevertheless, the degree and object of annexation test can help determine the status of an item. This
essay will evaluate the items to see whether they are fixtures or chattels whilst, demonstrating how the
burden of proof can show otherwise. In relation to Roxie, this essay will demonstrate the problems
that can occur during the conveyancing process and how proprietary estoppel can be used to protect an
individual s interests.
In regards to the different items, Peggy may argue that these items were personal property. If they
were, Alfie has no right to claim these items. However, if the items have become part of the land, they
are fixtures. Alfie would be able to claim these items if they were fixtures because when land is

Characteristics of Business Leadership
Characteristics of Business Leadership
Steve Jobs, the visionary co founder of Apple who helped usher in the era of personal computers and
then led a cultural transformation in the way music, movies and mobile communications were
experienced in the digital age. Jobs mastered digital technology and capitalized on his intuitive
marketing sense. He largely came to define the personal computer industry and an array of digital
consumer and entertainment businesses centered on the Internet. Coming on the scene just as
computing began to move beyond the walls of research laboratories and corporations in the 1970s, Mr.
Jobs saw that computing was becoming personal, that it could do more than crunch numbers and solve
scientific and business problems and that it could even be a force for social and economic change. And
at a time when hobbyist computers were boxy wooden affairs with metal chassis, he designed a
machine that was a sleek, low slung plastic package intended for the den or the kitchen. He was
offering not just products but a digital lifestyle (Apple s Visionary Redefined Digital Age, 2011).
Steve Jobs was raised in a neighborhood of engineers who worked on electronics and other gadgets in
their garages on weekends. This fashioned his interest in the field as he grew up. When he was 13, he
met one the most important people in his life, Stephen Wozniak. Wozniak was an electronics wiz kid,
and, like Steve, was a persistent prankster. Five years later, Steve Jobs enrolled

Example Of Educational Stratification
Beginning with the definition of stratification as the classification of different social units into classes,
I think the recognition of stratification in our lives is vitally important to be successful. This allows us
to thrive off the successes that result from different types of stratification to learning from our
mistakes and consequences from the disadvantages of stratification. Three examples of stratification
have personally played a major role in the development of my life and who I am today. From the good
to the bad, these examples opened opportunities for me while also teaching me valuable life lessons
from the consequences of stratification. The first example is educational stratification and how a
private school has impacted my life. The second example is being born into the family that I have
today and how their social class has influenced my life. The final example is growing up and living in
the environment and household I did and how that has played a role in my life.
One type of stratification that has influenced my life is educational stratification. I have been very
fortunate to be brought up in a house that gave me the opportunity to experience this. All my life I
have attended private schools because my parents wanted me to have the best quality education
possible. In their eyes, private schooling was the answer. Attending private school, this allowed me to
be exposed to many activities offered at the school from extracurricular activities to being

Compare And Contrast Morton And William Bradford
Thomas Morton was a lawyer, who in 1624 left England and settled in Massachusetts in a region he
called Ma re Mount (a hill by the sea). This area became an active fur trading site for New England
and is where many afflictions/conflicts occurred between himself and the pilgrims (Separatist
Puritans) of the Plymouth Community. Morton and William Bradford (the governor of the pilgrims)
both made accounts of their lives in Massachusetts. Each of their tales was different from one another

In Morton s New English Canaan , he recounts the day that the Maypole was erected to stand on Ma re
Mount. While this pole was agreeable with Morton and the Native Americans it was not however,

How Did Barnum Influence American Entertainment
Phineas Taylor Barnum, also known as P.T. Barnum, was an outstanding businessman from the age of
12. However, he was also an awful person. He did many things within his life including, the Barnum s
American Museum, the Jenny Lind tour, and starting the Greatest Show on Earth . The majority of
things he did was for his own personal gain and was almost always detrimental to those surrounding
him. P.T Barnum was a negative influence on american entertainment because he abused animals and
people with disabilities for profit.
Barnum was born on July 5th, 1810 in Bethel, Connecticut. He started his entrepreneurial career at the

that she was a nurse for George Washington. After the tragic death of Heth, Barnum wanted to prove
the age of her and he thought of only one way. He presented a special showing featuring Heth s
autopsy. However, this did not go as planned when the medical examiner stated that she was no older
than 80. Spectators were very upset with Barnum s hoax and did not expect it to happen again.
Nevertheless, Barnum s scams did not stop there; after Heth passed away Barnum went to seek out his

Humorous On Command Analysis
This is going to be a tough paper
Asking me to be humorous on command is pretty hard. I could write about all the embarrassing things
I have done, but it would fill up a couple more pages than I really want to do. Plus those pages would
be something I really wouldn t let anyone see. It would be way too embarrassing and i would have to

be funny on command is gonna take me completely off guard. So off guard in fact I will think way too
hard about what to write on this paper, Because that s just who I am. Im thinking im gonna have an
easier time paying my tuition than I will writing a paper like this. It s too bad I have to do both. I could

so I won t. I could joke about small events ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Full Frontal Feminist Analysis
I woke up this morning from a nightmare a lot of women find their reality. I was raped, suffering
PTSD from the incident, and my rapist was walking around freely. The actual rape was not a part of
my dream; the dream was about dealing with the repercussions of it. My friends and family tried to
help and console me, but I would have panic attacks if someone touched me. I worked in the same
company, or in the same building, as him and I saw him everywhere. He knew what he did and he had
no remorse, constantly winking at me and making crude gestures. In the end of my dream my friends,
the rapist, a woman (someone in authority I think), and I sat in the room where the crime took place. I

I believe that a lot of mainstream feminism is catered exclusively for straight, white, able bodied, cis
gender women. A lot of the time when feminists talk about the wage gap, especially in Valenti s book

not mentioned, however, that this only applies to white women. White women make even more than
black and Hispanic men, who in turn make more than black and Hispanic women. Not to mention that
this is only sub grouped further when looking at straight versus queer women, women with
disabilities, transgender women, and so on. Another situation would be the lack of people of color in
queer representation. When speaking on the subject, is almost always white people, when black people

The New Ways Of Interaction With The Iot
According to Ziegeldorf et al. [11], the new ways of interaction with the IoT leads to several specific
privacy threats categorized under: Identification, tracking and profiling threats which are long known,
and will be greatly aggravated in the IoT. Other threats such as privacy violating interactions and
presentations, lifecycle transitions, inventory attacks and information linkage arise later in the IoT
evolution. Hence, all the aforementioned privacy concerns, risks and threats represent real open issues
that may hinder the adoption and development of the IoT.
Authorization and Access Control in IoT
Authorization determines whether an entity (i.e., person or object) is permitted to access a certain
resource. Access control means controlling access to resources by granting or denying access
according to a wide range of criteria. Authorization is typically implemented through the use of access
controls. As expected in IoT there will be an extremely large number of devices with low power
requirements communicating over distributed and ad hoc networks with low bandwidth connections to
the Internet, creating a unique set of authorization and access control challenges. Thus, the standard
authorization models may need adaptation before they are ready for application in IoT [12]. While
there are many platforms and technologies available for IoT, access control issues are often
overlooked. In the IoT context, the convergence of the physical and cyber worlds will make it

My Perceptions About And Prior Experience With Depression,...
How have your perceptions about and prior experience with depression, grief and suicide been
challenged by the information presented?
During my nursing career, I have worked in many high stress areas (ex; labor and delivery, where not
every outcome is great, medical surgical unit, where a lot of people would get diagnosed with
pancreatic cancer, and neurosurgical unit, where I took care of many young individuals affected by
glioblasoma multiforme) where my patients were depressed (acute depression) due to their diagnosis
and were not sure how to cope with their situation. I did have several suicidal patients, as well.
Reflecting on this week s readings, especially on Meghan s pp presentations, I must admit that I have
to learn more about different depression and suicide tools that are available. That is going to help me
not only in my current practice but also in the future.
The Joint Commission (2016) made following recommendations regarding detecting suicide in any
type of settings:
Review each patient s personal and family medical history for suicide risk factors.
Screen all patients for suicide ideation, using a brief, standardized, evidence based screening tool.
Review screening questionnaires before the patient leaves the appointment or is discharged.
Take the following actions, using assessment results to inform the level of safety measures needed:
keep patients in acute suicidal crisis in a safe health care environment, under one to one observation,

Homecoming In The Odysseus
When we take the time to look at The Odyssey there is a lot to examine. We can look at the different
themes or how the character interacts with one another, but one thing in particular I want to talk about
is homecoming . What are the different types of journeys that we see throughout The Odyssey that
tells about homecoming ? There are different characters throughout the poem that strive for this goal.
With this they have to interact with others throughout the poem to effectively accomplish their goal
and their journey. First, we look at what different types of journeys there are through the play. One
example, a very popular example, is Odysseus s journey home from war. After the war Odysseus is
stranded on an island The only way for him to get off is to build a boat and he gets this idea from
Hermes. Hermes is the God of communication. Odysseus wants to return to Ithaca. We could say that
every obstacle and every stop in Odysseus s journey is a new homecoming. Each of his encounters
with a God or Goddess is a new homecoming. But until Odysseus is actually home in Ithaca he will
not feel as though he is home. Odysseus goes through and endures a lot to get to his final destination,
but when going through this journey he realizes that the journey was the destination and that he was
really home all along. Through hid journey he was shown love and compassion. We can look at this
love as agape which is Greek for mainly love . Throughout his homecoming Odysseus find that

  • 4. Creator In Frankenstein What is the relationship and the responsibility between creator and the created? In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, this is the question proposed throughout the entirety of the story. In the story, there are many references and comparisons to God, Adam, and Lucifer. Adam being God s perfect creation and Lucifer being the exiled devil. The relationship between the creator and the created should be like that of God and Adam. The creator is responsible for the actions of their creation because without the creator there would be no creation. The comparisons of Frankenstein and the Creature to God and Adam in the novel roots deeply into the mind of the reader. Both Victor and God created life from non living things. God created Adam from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Upon learning to read, the Creature read Paradise lost by John Milton. Paradise Lost, in summary, is about the fall of Lucifer and the other rebel angels; and their plan to corrupt God s new creation, mankind ( Paradise Lost Plot Overview). After the Creature read Paradise Lost he states that, [Adam] had come forth from the hands of God a perfect creature, happy and prosperous, guarded by the especial care of his Creator; he was allowed to converse with and acquire knowledge from beings of a superior nature: but I was wretched, helpless, and alone. Many times I considered Satan as the fitter emblem of my condition; for often, like him, when I viewed the bliss of my protectors, the bitter gall of envy rose within me (92). Satan is the name given to Lucifer after his exile from Heaven. But the Creature shares traits with both Satan and Adam. Like Satan, the Creature was exiled by his Creator; but Satan was exiled because he waged war on God. Satan believed he was of equal or greater strength than that of his creator (Milton 31). The Creature was exiled by Victor simply due to Victor s own ignorance as to what he was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of The Film La Bamba The film La Bamba showcases one of the most important historical moments in not only music history but also Latino music history. The star Lou Diamond, portrays Ritchie Valens originally Valenzuela. Ritchie was a boy who did not grow up in a normal childhood. In the film Valens played by Lou diamond is shown working hard alongside his mother Connie trying to make an honest living. His older brother Bob finds his way to his mother and young brother convincing them both to leave the fruit fields where they were working. While Ritchie should have been at school he was working. Once they moved to Los Angeles, Ritchie started attending high school like a normal teen should. His love for music grew strong as he became fond of a young girl named Donna. Donna was from a middle class white family, while Ritchie was from a poor Latino American family. Donna s parents wanted to keep the two apart from each other as her father did not approve of the romance because Ritchie had nothing to offer his daughter. Ritchie had nothing to offer Donna but his music and hope of someday making a name for himself. One day Ritchie and his band mates are having a show and a man by the name of Bob Keane stops by to see the performance, while there Keane shows a great interest in Ritchie and reaches out to him. Keane soon convinces Valens that he didn t need his band mates, that Ritchie was all the talent. Bob Keane not only manages to get Ritchie to drop his band, but he also convinces him to change ... • 6. Okonkwo s Foil Diana DeBernardis, 5 Mr. Rosenberry Honors English 11 December 19, 2012 Okonkwo s Foil Opposites attract. This is a very cliché quote used by physicists and other scientific personnel, but it rings true in many different ways. In literature, the correct term for a character that sets off or enhances another character by contrast is called a foil. Pairs of characters that are foils to each other have very opposing views and personalities, but their presence with each other illustrates the qualities in a better light. The book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a fictional novel which includes a main character named Okonkwo. Okonkwo has some very distinguishing features about him, but the fact that he has a foil in the novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Okonkwo explains to Obierika how he would strive to have a son like his because he is so strong and mighty, Obierika answers with a very pacifying response. You worry yourself for nothing, said Obierika. The children are still very young. (Achebe 66). This passage shows that Obierika is not so concerned about power and supremacy. Because of the contrast in Obierika s traits, he is definitely a foil to Okonkwo because Okonkwo is very strong minded, dogmatic, and hot tempered. If something does not go his way, Okonkwo will do something very irrational about it. When Okonkwo asked his second wife where his third wife, Ojiugo, was he became angered because his second wife lied to him about Ojiugo s whereabouts. He walked back to his obi to await Ojiugo s return. And when she returned he beat her very heavily (Achebe 29). Okonkwo s rationale of beating his third wife was in very poor judgment because he beat her during the Week of Peace. The Week of Peace was a week among the tribes where there was supposed to be no violence. This shows that Okonkwo has a very short temper and he does not tolerate nearly as much as Obierika can tolerate. Not only does Okonkwo differ from Obierika in the fact of their personality traits, but Obierika is a foil to Okonkwo because of Okonkwo s hunger for power. Okonkwo himself was known as the most powerful man in his village because he threw Amalinze the Cat, who was a great wrestler who had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Passivity and Impotence in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Passivity and Impotence in Frankenstein There are many ways to interpret a literary text, especially one as laden with ethical questions and literary allegory as Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. Shelley s complex family dynamic her conflicted relationship with her father, her need to please her mentor/husband with literary success, her infants deaths enhances the intrigue of the novel and suggests multiple themes and layered meanings. One discernible theme in Frankenstein is illuminated by the bold line that separates male character from female: The men inevitably fail the women whom they claim to love, but the women are maddeningly passive, seemingly blind to the men s inadequacies. Here, however, this passivity is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though weak, she has enough intelligence to realize which choice will serve her better. Elizabeth s lack of force and tepid presence in the book Victor s descriptions of her generous nature notwithstanding mirror Victor s weaknesses. His follies are the meat of Frankenstein, and though his initial failure to study the right books can be blamed on Alfonse, the rest of the book s mayhem lays squarely on his shoulders. Victor glorifies his own childhood and his parents responsibility for his happiness when he describes it, With this deep consciousness of what they owed towards the being to which they had given life...I received a lesson of patience, of charity, and of self control... (33). Unfortunately, he absorbs none of their parental talent or compassion. When Victor creates the hideous Monster, he abandons the Monster and essentially abandons the world on which the Monster is unleashed. Victor s failure as a father to the Monster is the second link in the chain of death swung by the Monster at William, Clerval, Elizabeth, and by default, Justine. Like Alfonse, Victor excels at female worship but falls a step beyond Alfonse s well meaning ineptitude into a deep crag of impotence. Throughout the novel, Victor speaks of Elizabeth in ... • 8. Carol Ann Duffy Poems Analysis Originally Introduction Memories play a significant role in the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy, particularly her recollections of childhood places and events. The poem Originally, published in The Other Country (1990), draws specifically from memories of Duffy s family s move from Scotland to England when she and her siblings were very young. The first born child, Duffy was just old enough to feel a deep sense of personal loss and fear as she traveled farther and farther away from the only place she had known as home and the family neared its alien destination. This sentiment is captured in Originally, in which it is described in the rich detail and defining language of both the child who has had the experience and the adult who recalls ... The unfamiliar, snowy weather and artificial neon lights create the impression for the immigrant that the country moved to is coming to bits . This image of fragmentation is, though, not entirely imaginary as he or she has a life splintered from all that is familiar and constantly experiences a sense of alienation. The italicised words at the close of the poem give voice to the immigrant but this only gives away a difficulty with English. The unfinished verbs, Me not know and It like they only... are drawn attention to by Duffy in order that the reader may ponder what it would be like to face the same language problem. The final words of the poem, Imagine that remind us of the opening and there is quite a clear impression that Duffy is adopting an undisguised didactic stance. As a skilled and empowered user of the English language herself she is drawing attention to the lot of those who are marginalised because of their deficiency in its use. • 9. Case Study On Periodontitis Periodontal disease is very common, and is widely regarded as the second most common dental disease worldwide after dental caries. Periodontitis is initiated by gram negative tooth associated microbial biofilm that elicit a host response which result in bone and soft tissue destruction. The chief treatment modality for periodontal health is scaling and root planing either during surgical intervention or in a non surgical approach with the endpoint of bringing a root surface that is biologically acceptable for healing processes. [1] These mechanical procedures are accomplished by using sonic ultrasonic, manual and rotary instruments with the intention of removing subgingival biofilm, calculus endotoxins from the root surface and also to accomplish a maintainable ... • 10. A Brief Note On The Sun And The Circumstances Of The... Racism the word has a harsh sound to the ear and racism s effects deliver a harsh reality to victims. The novel Raisin in the Sun and the circumstances of the Moulin Rouge Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, tell how racism destroyed dreams and crushed the soul through discrimination and lost opportunity. But there s another side to the racism story. For some of the oppressed, discrimination and hardship will be fought with perseverance and achievement. In both the fictional Raisin in the Sun and the historical Moulin Rouge Casino, a black woman, against great odds, will achieve personal and historic success. Racism in America directed toward black people originated over 300 years ago with the first importation of black slaves into the America from Africa (Frederickson). While great progress in eliminating explicit racism has taken place, American society has far to go in ensuring that blacks have the same protections, advantages and freedoms as whites. Racial discrimination in this country continues to harm millions of black Americans whether it is through an inferior education, unfair treatment in the judicial and law enforcement systems or delivery of sub optimal health care. While the government can play a role in solving this problem with legislation, equitable law enforcement and national education, it will also take a recognition of the problem and then a focused, long term effort by generations of families to acknowledge and remove the many stumbling blocks of ... • 11. The Intervention Of Biotechnology On Life Takes Two Forms... The intervention of biotechnology in life takes two forms of therapy and enhancement. Andrew Lustig, author of the article Enhancement Technologies and the Person: Christian Perspectives, defines both accordingly, saying that therapy is generally defined as the prevention or cure of disease, or as the restoration or approximation of return to normal physiological function. Enhancement is defined as the alteration of individual (or group) characteristics, traits, and abilities (both health and non health related) beyond a measurable baseline of normal function (41). Therapy is focused on restoration of our integrity while assisting natural physiology, whereas enhancement is focused on alteration of our physiology. For example, say a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deliberating further about the distinction between enhancements and therapy, the theological ethicist Richard Niebuhr outlines categories that describe how Christians have related to the culture at various times in history with regards to his book Christ in Culture (Chesire 77). After examining each of the five categories and contrasting them with Catholic moral theology and Catholic teaching, I believe the category Christ against enhancement is the most accurate, which Niebuhr explains in that the radical Christian regards culture as deeply corrupted by original sin. Within this perspective, biomedical enhancements, being part of culture, work to transmit the destructive effects of sin and have the potential to magnify human depravity (qtd. in Chesire 77). Therefore, technology associated with bioenhancements that magnifies the corruption of human morality is part of that culture. I think the Christ against enhancement is accurate to what the Church would believe because it is comprehensible with Catholic moral theology. Although, the Church is accepting of therapy due to its purely medical purpose. In therapy, as Pope Benedict XVI put it in his pre papacy Instruction on Respect for Human Life, applied biology and medicine work together for the integral good of human life [and] come to the aid of a person stricken by illness...respect[ing] his or her dignity as a creature of God (7). Like Jacksonians, Neocons hate multilateral organizations and have a tendency to see them as feeble and wasteful. This carelessness comes from the Neocon adoration for the RMA, Revolution in the Military Affairs, which means a dependence on stealth innovation, air conveyed accuracy guided weapons and versatile ground powers. Wathen is attempting to value the proposed acquisition of Pinkerton in an effort to determine whether bids of $85 million to $100 million is value enhancing for CPP s shareholders. Additionally, Wathen must choose between two financing options: (1) raising $100 Million via a $75 million debt structure at 11.5% interest rate together with a $25 million equity investment for a 45% stake in the combined company and (2) a $100 million debt facility at 13.5% interest rate. With the synergies expected, the value to CPP increases by $14.6 Million (see exhibit 4). Generally for the particular small firms to maintain rating of A, the firms have to maintain a debt service ratio of 6. Hence it is practical to assume interest coverage ratio of 6.0x in the long term for Pinkerton in this case. Pinkerton gets benefit from 34% tax shield, which account for the value of $15.4 Million (see exhibit 5). Therefore, as calculated in exhibit 6, the total value of Pinkerton from 3 sources to CPP in expected case is $119.7 Million. This is higher than the $100 million asking price. Financing: Free cash flow after debt service is still positive in both options. For the value to existing shareholder, as option 1 CPP gives premium of $15.2 Million over $25 Million for 45% stake of CPP to investors, option 2 of $100 Million Debt would be more preferable. Pessimistic Case Valuation: We then perform the valuation exactly the same method as expected case. The value of Pinkerton with less gross margin and more working capital needed is $67.1 Million (See exhibit 9 for 5 years valuation and exhibit 10 for terminal value). With lower performance, the value of 34% tax shield is also lower to $10.8 Million (see exhibit 12). According to an account from Plutarch, Archimedes was working on a mathematical diagram while the city was being under attacked and captured. I didn t not have the ability to communicate with others around me. My stuttering was so severe that it stunted my progress in learning English. The bullying I received in school caused me to become mute for sometime. My perspective at that time was detrimentally negative. I did not apply myself in school at all and had a lot of unpleasant behavioral incidents. Cell Membrane Potential Lab Report Increase in K+ ions concentration causes increase in membrane potential in crayfish muscle cell Abstract: The membrane potential of a cell is affected by ions and depends on the electrochemical gradient and the concentration gradient (Sandstorm et al, 2018). There are multiple ions that affects the membrane potential including K+, Na+ and Cl but K+ and Na+ affect the membrane potential the most. In this experiment, we look at how K+ affects the membrane potential by changing K+ concentration levels. The electrical gradient also wants to reach equilibrium in charges so that there is less differences in charge between the inside and the outside of the cell and the two charges cancel each other out. The equilibrium potential depends on both forces, the concentration and electrical gradient of the ions. (Sandstrom et al, 2018). The Nernst equation is used to find the voltage at which one ion reaches its equilibrium potential and the Goldman equation is used to find the membrane potential when there more than one ion that affects it and have different permeability. When the membrane potential of a cell is at equilibrium, or at rest , there is not net movement of ions across the cell membrane. At rest the equilibrium potential of a muscle cell is between 70 mV and 90 mV due to the high concentration of K+ inside the cell. The inside of the cell is very negative compare to the outside and when the cell depolarizes, it becomes more positive. A previous research done by P. Fatt and B. I believe that alcohol consumption is one of the biggest problems we as a society are facing now a day. We see this as a common activity among college students and sometimes we even encourage it by letting people believe is a natural thing for teenagers to do. The bigger problem is actually binge drinking defined as the heavy, episodic use of alcohol (Wechsler 337). Although many see this as something fun and entertaining, alcohol consumption has many effects on the life of the drinker and those around him/her. According to an essay published by College Parents dot com, about four out of five college students drink alcohol (College Parents). If we think about this, four out of five students drink. The work can be separated into two parts; the dismal part pertaining to the beginning of winter and the second part focusing on one small aspect of good in all of the dismal surrounding it. The general idea of the poem is that the dismal winter is approaching, but there are some incidences of goodness in this depressing time. This tells the reader that under all of this gloom, there is one living aspect and that is this bird. The fourth and final stanza tells the reader the narrator s new feelings on the winter months. This is best summed up in the last two lines of the poem. They state, Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew and I was unaware. This states that the narrator feels that winter will soon be ending and the tiny little thrush showed the narrator this. The narrator now knows that there is a hope of the summer months coming. The theme of the poem is to find good meaning in everything and that good is always present in everything. God does things for a reason and the good may not always be immediately visible, but it is there and it is our job to search it out. In the case of the poem, the narrator now knows that the warmer seasons will return to again bring joy and life to everyone. Impacts in areas such as health, education, economic opportunity and involvement in child protection and/or the criminal justice system are all areas which should have been impacted by the Apology (Creative Spitis, 2014). However; as this essay will explore very little impact has been made in any of these areas in actual fact in some ways the gap has been made wider or perpetuated by acts of government. The Apology was a significant historical event but it is important to explain why it happened before examining the affects it has had on the Indigenous community and wider Australia (Creative Spirits, 2014). The Apology was more then just simply an apology, it acted as a statement of acknowledgement by the Australian Government that previous governments had committed wrongdoings by removing thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their homes and families to be placed with White families and missions (religious camps which taught children white values essentially removing them from all their cultural roots) (Creative Spirits, 2014). The Four Layers of the Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication Young Yun Kim s Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication comprises of four layers: the environment, the situation, the communicator, and the behavior. All of these layers work together in order to create what Kim calls a communication event (Kim, 2005). When interethnic communication occurs, the communicators identify some form of distinctiveness from the conversational partner in terms of ethnicity or other identity aspects. The environment layer describes the larger social setting, so aspects such as institutional influences. The next layer, the situation, is ingrained in the environment layer. Jobs mastered digital technology and capitalized on his intuitive marketing sense. He largely came to define the personal computer industry and an array of digital consumer and entertainment businesses centered on the Internet. Coming on the scene just as computing began to move beyond the walls of research laboratories and corporations in the 1970s, Mr. Jobs saw that computing was becoming personal, that it could do more than crunch numbers and solve scientific and business problems and that it could even be a force for social and economic change. And at a time when hobbyist computers were boxy wooden affairs with metal chassis, he designed a machine that was a sleek, low slung plastic package intended for the den or the kitchen. He was offering not just products but a digital lifestyle (Apple s Visionary Redefined Digital Age, 2011). Steve Jobs was raised in a neighborhood of engineers who worked on electronics and other gadgets in their garages on weekends. This fashioned his interest in the field as he grew up. • 34. Example Of Educational Stratification Beginning with the definition of stratification as the classification of different social units into classes, I think the recognition of stratification in our lives is vitally important to be successful. This allows us to thrive off the successes that result from different types of stratification to learning from our mistakes and consequences from the disadvantages of stratification. Three examples of stratification have personally played a major role in the development of my life and who I am today. From the good to the bad, these examples opened opportunities for me while also teaching me valuable life lessons from the consequences of stratification. The first example is educational stratification and how a private school has impacted my life. The second example is being born into the family that I have today and how their social class has influenced my life. The final example is growing up and living in the environment and household I did and how that has played a role in my life. One type of stratification that has influenced my life is educational stratification. I have been very fortunate to be brought up in a house that gave me the opportunity to experience this. All my life I have attended private schools because my parents wanted me to have the best quality education possible. In their eyes, private schooling was the answer. Attending private school, this allowed me to be exposed to many activities offered at the school from extracurricular activities to being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This area became an active fur trading site for New England and is where many afflictions/conflicts occurred between himself and the pilgrims (Separatist Puritans) of the Plymouth Community. Morton and William Bradford (the governor of the pilgrims) both made accounts of their lives in Massachusetts. Each of their tales was different from one another s, especially their perspectives of the Indians and religious values. • 36. How Did Barnum Influence American Entertainment Phineas Taylor Barnum, also known as P.T. Barnum, was an outstanding businessman from the age of 12. However, he was also an awful person. He did many things within his life including, the Barnum s American Museum, the Jenny Lind tour, and starting the Greatest Show on Earth . The majority of things he did was for his own personal gain and was almost always detrimental to those surrounding him. P.T Barnum was a negative influence on american entertainment because he abused animals and people with disabilities for profit. Barnum was born on July 5th, 1810 in Bethel, Connecticut. He started his entrepreneurial career at the early age of 12, when he began selling overpriced snacks and drinks at local gatherings. After Barnum s father died, he ... The old lady was blind and partially paralysed but, still expected to sing hymns and tell stories. Barnum claimed that she was the Oldest Woman Alive and that she was a nurse for George Washington. After the tragic death of Heth, Barnum wanted to prove the age of her and he thought of only one way. He presented a special showing featuring Heth s autopsy. However, this did not go as planned when the medical examiner stated that she was no older than 80. Spectators were very upset with Barnum s hoax and did not expect it to happen again. Nevertheless, Barnum s scams did not stop there; after Heth passed away Barnum went to seek out his next money making career. • 37. Humorous On Command Analysis This is going to be a tough paper Asking me to be humorous on command is pretty hard. I could write about all the embarrassing things I have done, but it would fill up a couple more pages than I really want to do. Plus those pages would be something I really wouldn t let anyone see. It would be way too embarrassing and i would have to move states again. It s not that I m a dry, boring, and unhumorous politician, it s just that asking me to be funny on command is gonna take me completely off guard. So off guard in fact I will think way too hard about what to write on this paper, Because that s just who I am. Im thinking im gonna have an easier time paying my tuition than I will writing a paper like this. It s too bad I have to do both. I could joke about the current state of politics all day, but I think it would be rather offensive to do that here, so I won t. I could joke about small events ... Imagine Improv with anxiety. It s kind of like a deer caught in headlights. I think the worst and best part of all of this though is that i m writing with my own kind of humour. Humour that may not really appeal to other people. Humour that may get me an F since i m clearly stretching the idea of writing with humour. Humour that i m not sure is super outlandishly akward or actually somewhat chucklesome but is humour all my own. Which is what makes this assignment difficult since everyone has a different standard of humour. What some of my classmates may find funny I might not and vice versa. • 38. Full Frontal Feminist Analysis I woke up this morning from a nightmare a lot of women find their reality. I was raped, suffering PTSD from the incident, and my rapist was walking around freely. The actual rape was not a part of my dream; the dream was about dealing with the repercussions of it. My friends and family tried to help and console me, but I would have panic attacks if someone touched me. I worked in the same company, or in the same building, as him and I saw him everywhere. He knew what he did and he had no remorse, constantly winking at me and making crude gestures. In the end of my dream my friends, the rapist, a woman (someone in authority I think), and I sat in the room where the crime took place. I told her what happened there, while the man laughed on at my fear and sorrow. The worst part that happened before I woke up? She didn t do anything for me; she couldn t do anything for me. I awoke, thinking all day long of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that a lot of mainstream feminism is catered exclusively for straight, white, able bodied, cis gender women. A lot of the time when feminists talk about the wage gap, especially in Valenti s book Full Frontal Feminism, it is only mentioned that women make about 70 cents to the man s dollar. It is not mentioned, however, that this only applies to white women. White women make even more than black and Hispanic men, who in turn make more than black and Hispanic women. Not to mention that this is only sub grouped further when looking at straight versus queer women, women with disabilities, transgender women, and so on. Another situation would be the lack of people of color in queer representation. When speaking on the subject, is almost always white people, when black people actually make up most of the United States lgbtqa population. A lot of feminism speech is catered to the white ... • 39. The New Ways Of Interaction With The Iot According to Ziegeldorf et al. [11], the new ways of interaction with the IoT leads to several specific privacy threats categorized under: Identification, tracking and profiling threats which are long known, and will be greatly aggravated in the IoT. Other threats such as privacy violating interactions and presentations, lifecycle transitions, inventory attacks and information linkage arise later in the IoT evolution. Hence, all the aforementioned privacy concerns, risks and threats represent real open issues that may hinder the adoption and development of the IoT. Authorization and Access Control in IoT Authorization determines whether an entity (i.e., person or object) is permitted to access a certain resource. Access control means controlling access to resources by granting or denying access according to a wide range of criteria. Authorization is typically implemented through the use of access controls. As expected in IoT there will be an extremely large number of devices with low power requirements communicating over distributed and ad hoc networks with low bandwidth connections to the Internet, creating a unique set of authorization and access control challenges. Thus, the standard authorization models may need adaptation before they are ready for application in IoT [12]. While there are many platforms and technologies available for IoT, access control issues are often overlooked. In the IoT context, the convergence of the physical and cyber worlds will make it ... • 40. My Perceptions About And Prior Experience With Depression,... How have your perceptions about and prior experience with depression, grief and suicide been challenged by the information presented? During my nursing career, I have worked in many high stress areas (ex; labor and delivery, where not every outcome is great, medical surgical unit, where a lot of people would get diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and neurosurgical unit, where I took care of many young individuals affected by glioblasoma multiforme) where my patients were depressed (acute depression) due to their diagnosis and were not sure how to cope with their situation. I did have several suicidal patients, as well. Reflecting on this week s readings, especially on Meghan s pp presentations, I must admit that I have to learn more about different depression and suicide tools that are available. That is going to help me not only in my current practice but also in the future. The Joint Commission (2016) made following recommendations regarding detecting suicide in any type of settings: Review each patient s personal and family medical history for suicide risk factors. Screen all patients for suicide ideation, using a brief, standardized, evidence based screening tool. Review screening questionnaires before the patient leaves the appointment or is discharged. Take the following actions, using assessment results to inform the level of safety measures needed: keep patients in acute suicidal crisis in a safe health care environment, under one to one observation, for ... • 41. Homecoming In The Odysseus When we take the time to look at The Odyssey there is a lot to examine. We can look at the different themes or how the character interacts with one another, but one thing in particular I want to talk about is homecoming . What are the different types of journeys that we see throughout The Odyssey that tells about homecoming ? There are different characters throughout the poem that strive for this goal. With this they have to interact with others throughout the poem to effectively accomplish their goal and their journey. First, we look at what different types of journeys there are through the play. One example, a very popular example, is Odysseus s journey home from war. After the war Odysseus is stranded on an island The only way for him to get off is to build a boat and he gets this idea from Hermes. Hermes is the God of communication. Odysseus wants to return to Ithaca. We could say that every obstacle and every stop in Odysseus s journey is a new homecoming. Each of his encounters with a God or Goddess is a new homecoming. But until Odysseus is actually home in Ithaca he will not feel as though he is home. Odysseus goes through and endures a lot to get to his final destination, but when going through this journey he realizes that the journey was the destination and that he was really home all along. Through hid journey he was shown love and compassion. We can look at this love as agape which is Greek for mainly love . Throughout his homecoming Odysseus find that ...
