Economic And Social Consequences Of Diabetes
Economic and Social Consequences of Diabetes There are many costs to the U.S. as more people are
developing Diabetes at an increasing rate. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) researched and
studied the costs to the healthcare systems and found that the costs were $174 billion in 2007 and rose
to $245 billion in 2012. The cost of diabetes in the six years has risen to an outstanding 41%. The
costs of Diabetes was broke down into two categories: medical costs and lost productivity. In the 2012
cost of $245 billion, $176 billion went to medical costs and $69 billion went to lost productivity
(NCBI, 2013). The largest parts of the medical costs were hospital inpatient care, prescription
medicine to treat the symptoms of Diabetes, antidiabetic agents and Diabetes supplies, doctor visits,
and nursing facility stays. The diagnosed people with Diabetes usually spend on average $13,700 on
medical bills of which approximately $7,900 is directly related to Diabetes. The cost for an average
diabetic for medical costs is approximately 2.3 times larger than a non diabetic with similar health
profiles. To put the cost of Diabetes of the U.S. in perspective, about 1 in 5 dollars spent in the health
care industry is related to the care and treatment of Diabetes (NCBI, 2013). The cost of Diabetes to the
NHS is 14 billion Sterling Pounds (approximately $22.68 billion) every year. The cost per person with
diabetes paid by the NHS is equal to $3,500 per year. The cost of Diabetes to the

Luke Skywalker Book Report
Luke Skywalker was a young man who grew up on Tatooine, on a moisture farm with his Uncle Owen
and his aunt Beru. His Uncle and he bought two droids from a group of Jawas. The droid s names
were C 3P0 and R2 D2. Soon after purchasing the droids he accidently witnessed a hidden message
from one of the droids which lead him to an old hermit named Ben Kenobi who was once a Jedi from
the Old Republic who was a wielder of the force, He knew Luke s father and told that his father was
once also a Jedi and would have wanted him to be trained in the force. Luke refused, but upon his
return found his aunt and uncle dead, kill by imperial storm troopers. Ben also gave Luke his father s

Film Analysis Of Mean Girls
Mean Girls directed by Mark Waters is a coming of age movie which follows the high school journey
of Cady Heron. Coming from being home schooled her whole life, 16 year old Cady must survive
high school as she learns it is completely different from the environment in Africa. Mean Girls
addresses subjects such as beauty is only skin deep in a light hearted and comedic manner, making it a
movie that can be enjoyed by all ages while still spreading awareness. Moving from a secluded
friendly place in Africa, Cady has no experience of growing up in the torture that is high school. She
meets 2 new people on her first day who teach her about the school. Not academically, but socially.
She is instantly consumed by the drama that is high school with no sense of how ruthless high school
can be. Even though Mean Girls highly exaggerates high school, I think the way they did so was super
effective in telling a story. I thoroughly enjoyed the comparison of the animal world which is the
world Cady used to come from when living in Africa, to girl world which is where she lives now. As I
see it, animal world is full of savage creatures and harm where all things are resolved with violence
whereas in girl world, to survive you must be sneaky and malicious which were all things Cady had to
learn to adapt to. I think this comparison was used to show how when we are thrown into a new
situation, we can feel lost as if we were in a jungle in fear of our new surroundings. But in Mean Girls,

Love Triangle
To conclude, it is crucial that it be stated that the kind of talk show Dr. Phil runs is purposely produced
in a counseling type format. He sits the people involved in the matter right in front of him and
repeatedly interrogates them as he hopes to conciliate their disagreement by assessing a diagnosis and
referring them to the right specialists for further treatment. In other words, he makes use of his non
existing qualifications and practices psychology by evaluating people and making referrals. Thus,
being a guest to his talk show most certainly serves as a pre assessment, diagnosis based, one on one
consult in which people foolishly air out their problems, frequently, making them subjective to

An Overview Of Lord Keeper Bacon At The Opening Of...
Primary Source Analysis An Overview By Lord Keeper Bacon at the Opening of Parliament, 12
January 1563 In 1563 Lord Keeper Bacon, a member of parliament, wrote a letter to Queen Elizabeth
I, which was presented to parliament on January 12, 1563, requesting the issues with the church
teaching be resolved. The letter argued that in order for Lord Keeper Bacon, as well as his lord
bishops, to truly understand the religion, Queen Elizabeth I must reform the issues regarding the
teachings of doctrine and discipline. This document is a speech on the matter of religious settlements
in the early Elizabethan era. It calls for clarifications of the teachings of doctrine and discipline, which
were necessary to sustain religion. Regarding the teachings of doctrine, the issues presented in this
speech pertain to ministers who were either accustomed to teaching with the beliefs of Catholicism or
who do not teach the true word of God. In addition, the issues regarding discipline are that the
ministers and members of the church may have become corrupt with no true disciplinary
consequences set forth as punishment. This document is written in a time where the religion had been
changed numerous times, leaving the people, including the author, Lord Keeper Bacon, confused.
Although somewhat unsure as to what the exact guidelines for the religious settlement would be, Lord
Keeper Bacon was not kept in the dark. Originally known as Nicholas Bacon, who would be

Compare And Contrast The Middle Colonies And New England...

British North Americas Founded in the 17th century there were three major regions made up the
British North Americas. The North or New England region, the Middle Colonies and the Southern
Colonies. The regions had different climate, geography, population, politics, economy and religion.
Within each region the way they lived, worked, worshipped and did business was different. The North
or New England Colonies consisted of states such as New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode
Island. The Middle Colonies consisted of states such as New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The
Southern Colonies consisted of states such as Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia. The North or New
England Colonies were known for fishing and they had great timber forests. The timber forests made
for great shipbuilding which was great, because they had busy seaports that distributed trade goods all
over the world. The Middle Colonies were known as the thriving laborers and worldly city folk. The
landscape of grain and the iron mines created a thriving middle class. The Middle Colonies had a very
diversity of nationalities which created the move towards a unique level of tolerance in America. The
South Colonies were known as the slave states, the farmers and the aristocrats. The southerners were

The Theories Of Nature Vs. Nurture
Through history, the idea of nature vs. nurture has been a hotly debated issue. Nature, or genetics is
often believed to be the most important aspect of a persons upbringing, as nature is something intrinsic
to any one person. However, many debate that nurture, or the care and encouragement of any human
life, trumps nature. The earliest evidence and rebuttals of these theories have been honed and
developed over time by specific psychologists and educational theorists all who hoped to prove their
own ideas as fact at one time in history. John Locke was the forefather of the Educational
Constructivist movement, which theorized that children and learners construct their personal
knowledge in both social and individual situations. Though his opinions were often disputed, Locke
had many opinions and theories of the habits and social conventions for the education of young
children. Specifically, and perhaps most importantly, he believed that It is more accurate to think of
the child s mind as a blank slate, and whatever comes from the mind is from the environment (Crain
7). This blank slate , or tabula rasa idea founded the theory of nurture. According to his theory, as
babies we are born without knowledge of what we should fear or how we should act, it is up to our
environments to teach us how to act and behave. In contrast to Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau, a strict
Naturalist, was more concerned with the development of a person s character and moral sense.

The Great Leap Forward By Joseph Stalin
After breaking away from a temporary alliance with the KMT during the war with Japan (1937 1945),
civil war broke out between the Communist Party and the KMT; resulting in the Communist Parties
victory. This lead to the founding of the People s Republic of China (PRC). Mao Zedong along with
other Communist leaders set out to remodel China with his campaign of the Great Leap Forward
through mass mobilisation of labour to improve agricultural and industrial production , eventually
transforming China into an industrial superpower that would surpass Western countries within fifteen
years. The Great Leap Forward model was borrowed from the model used by Joseph Stalin in the
USSR of an enterprise that was evaluated on the basis of success indicators ... items produced,
quantity of labour used and amount of raw materials depleted . Mao wanted to adapt the Stalin Model
of controlled planting and production with the Asian idea of collectivisation in mind, ultimately
creating China into a self sufficient industrial nation.
In 1966, Mao launched the Cultural Revolution in order to reassert his authority over China and the
CCP, but also ensure that China would not revert back into capitalism and cement the revolution so as
not to make the same revisionist mistakes that Mao had seen in the USSR.
I aim to establish whether the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution were successes for China
in modernising and pushing the country forward or a failure that achieved

Essay On Aksum
In the documentary Guns, Germs, and Steel, the Professor Jared Diamond asserts that the first
developed civilizations had a huge head start due to their geographical location, which allowed them
to live a period of growth. His argument is perceptible in many civilizations developments such as
Aksum s. Located in northern Ethiopia and Eritrea, Aksum was one of the first developed African
civilizations; indeed, the kingdom experienced a period of rising towards the first century. This rising
resulted from the advantages of its position in altitude, from the sustainable agriculture system

Additionally, the climate was influenced by the altitude. To illustrate, it is mentioned, the elevated
land masses also force moisture laden winds up to levels at which clouds form and rain falls (Aksum

increase of rains; therefore, the kingdom had a variety of plants but also different animals as there was
a rich vegetation. As a result, the kingdom had nutritious crops and the diverse fauna enhanced the
agriculture with the plough and provided fertilizers. Conclusively due to the altitude, Aksumites were

Difference Between Internal And External Crowdsourcing
According to several scholars (including Villarroel and Reis, 2010; Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013;
Carlson and Wilmot, 2006; Chesbrough, 2006a, 2006b; Byren, 2013; Yap, 2012; Howe, 2006, 2009;
Brabham, 2008b, 2009, 2013), the main difference between internal and external crowdsourcing can
be summarized as follows: i) the internal crowd (employees) is known to the firm; ii) the crowd can be
all employees of the firm, a subsidiary of the firm, or may also include partners and suppliers; iii) the
crowd is specifically used for problem solving or aggregating ideas for innovation purposes; and iv)
the crowd may also be anyone with internet or mobile remote access capable of participating in a
crowdsourcing contest and vote on the ideas of others.
Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media acceptance is high
(Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don t measure up to the external crowd
(Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack
the capabilities and fall short to the external crowd s full capacity. Boudreau and Lakhani (2013)
believes employees are discouraged from seeking challenges; Yap (2012) says that internal
crowdsourcing unveil innovations from employees which otherwise would not be captured. Carlson
and Wilmot (2006) emphasizes that every employee does in fact has the ability to innovate, and must
do so for their company to stay competitive. The desire for deeper exploration of

Women s Rights Violations in Afghanistan
Women s Rights Violations in Afghanistan
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, True peace is not merely the absence of tension, it is the presence of
justice. It means that without equality, there is no real end to a conflict. Equality is one of the many
human rights every person is entitled to. It is never acceptable to deny people their basic human rights;
however, this has occurred frequently throughout history. A wide variety of groups have been
discriminated against through violations of human rights, but women have faced this hardship the
most. Times have changed, and many women now possess their deserved human rights, but others are
less fortunate. In the book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, by Khaled Hosseini, human rights violations ...

The Taliban made matters incredibly worse for women in Afghanistan.
Because most of the violations against women were directly due to Taliban law, every woman in
Afghanistan had to deal with this abuse of rights. When education was banned, they could no longer
have dreams of becoming professional working women. Their new destiny was forced marriage,
polygamy, and housework.
Men are the main perpetrators in most women s rights cases, but in Afghanistan, it is society. Women
are looked down upon so severely that even women themselves are ashamed when they give birth to
females because everybody feels sad for you (Nordberg). A pregnant woman in Afghanistan gave birth
to twins prematurely. When they arrived, they were extremely small and unconscious. The woman s
mother in law began to cry, not because the babies were unconscious, but because both of them were
girls. It is a disgrace to have more girls in the family.
The entire female population in Afghanistan is directly affected by the societal prejudice against them.
There are so many restrictions and limitations towards women that they can be charged with a crime
that harmed nobody and nothing at all. The male population is willing to find anything they can to use
against these innocent women. Women deserve to at possess the minimal human rights that they
should have been granted at birth. In order to make this happen, these women need

U.S. to follow their children and that because of this they expect their children to accommodate them

Parenting Styles and Roles of Family M.S. explained that the Korean culture has very defined family
roles with the male dominating over the female. The male in the home is identified by M.S. as being
the traditional bread winner . She noted that it is important to a man s identity that he is able to work

home as well as for the aging parents of both the husband and wife is priority. M.S. told me that she
was only allowed to work certain shifts and hours due to the need to accommodate her family. As

arrangement of caring for the elderly at home, and if at all possible to never place a parent in an

whether or not John and Mary have a happy life together or a complicated life together. However, no

It is true that both John and Mary fall in love and enter symbiotic relationship. However, just because
the reader gets a cookie cutter happy ending that doesn t necessarily mean that it is the best ending.
For instance, story A, the happy ending, is very short compared to the other stories. It dose not give
the reader enough time to form a connection to the characters before they die. While on the other
hand, story B, the sadder ending, is much longer and gives the reader a connection to the character
Mary.
Story B is the sadder ending and focuses more on Mary. The relationship between Mary and John is
far from happy. Mary does absolutely everything for John. Mary cooks, cleans, and even lets john
have his way with her. John doesn t even acknowledge all the sacrifice that Mary puts into their
relationship. Not only dose John show no affection towards Mary, He gives it all his affection to
another woman he sees behind Mary s back. The drama of the whole situation is too much to bear for
Mary. Mary devises a plan to overdose on all of her household medicine and have John take her to the
hospital. Sadly John doesn t even care enough to take her to the hospital. Margaret Atwood did a

Essay about Cultural Conformity
By definition, discrimination is the cruel treatment towards a person of a specific group, according to
his or her classification or status. For centuries, discrimination has been a big issue in many countries
over race, socioeconomic status, appearance and ethnicity. Racism continues to exist primarily not
only in the United States, but also in Europe and South America, with attempts to block minorities
from any opportunities. In Rick Bragg s memoir, All Over but the Shoutin, Bragg reveals the influence
of racism on the modern world. The effects of these unjust social practices can be felt throughout

Natural Born Killers Analysis
The film Natural Born Killers , analyzes author John Grisham s main argument regards that of the
astronomical role of the film in the deaths of Bill Savage and Patsy Byers due to it s use of glorified
violence. The author uses information regarding the case such as the outstanding personalities of the
victims, the troubled childhood of the perpetrators, and the effect that the movie natural born killers
had on them, as well as Oliver Stone s apparent lack of interest regarding the case. The author
Grisham in his opinion piece unnatural killers asserts that Oliver Stone s film should be held

journalistic style with direct evidence from the case in order to aid his arguments and points. The
author s purpose is to give a detailed description of the case in order to try to get the audience on his

particularly to the youth. The author establishes a tone that appears to be objective, but it is clear even

theft, murder, rape, or assault. One of the currently hot topics regarding social deviance is the society s
acceptance towards gay people, especially those who went for surgery and became transgender. Today,
LGBT rights are being established and strengthened step by step. However, not so long ago, gay
people were usually glared at especially when they chose to exhibit their cross dressing or their affairs

Recession Turmoil Caused By U.s. Subprime Mortgage Crisis
Wall Street turmoil caused by U.S. Subprime Mortgage Crisis had eventually evolved to global
financial crisis. The financial crisis that has engulfed the world is really a disaster, leading to
precipitous shrinkage of human wealth and instantaneous evaporation of long time efforts by financial
institutions. But why did such financial crisis take place? Who should be blamed?
As far as I concern, Federal Reserve deserves the greatest blame, as its ultra loose monetary policy
created housing bubble, sowing the seeds of crisis. And its subsequent tighten policy pricked that kind

Jealousy in William Shakespeare s Othello Essay
Jealousy in William Shakespeare s Othello
In the play Othello, jealousy and envy are prominent themes from the beginning to the end. As the
play slowly unfolds it is evident that jealousy is the cause of most of the dramatic actions which take
place in the duration of the play. It is described as the green eyed monster. Green representing the
colour of envy, and monster shows how destructive and how vicious it can be. This quotation is said
by a character named Iago. Iago has a strong manipulative mind. He is the first of all the characters in
the play to be attacked by the green eyed monster. This is very ironic, Iago is warning Othello to be
aware of jealousy, however what Othello ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are other characters that are affected by jealousy and resentment in the play as well as Othello.
There is a character called Roderigo who also suffers from jealousy. He is very eager to be with
Desdemona, who is Othello s wife. He refers to Othello as thick lips as he is black. This is a racist
comment and also shows how much Roderigo envy s Othello as Desdemona loves him and not
Roderigo.
As mentioned previously, Othello is not affected by the jealousy instantly. It is apparent that his love
for Desdemona is true. Although people have doubted if their love is true for each other. Brabantio
refers to Othello s love for Desdemona as if she in chains of magic were not bound this shows that
Brabantio is also feeling jealousy. Brabantio s relation to Desdemona is her father and he thinks that
Desdemona is showing Othello more love than she is showing to him. He is saying that Othello has
used some sort of magic to make his daughter fall in love with him. Nevertheless, Othello has only
used nothing as their love is true. Othello says she loved me for the dangers I have passed, and I loved
her, that she did pity them. This is the only witchcraft I have used Othello says that Desdemona fell in
love with him because of the dangers and the adventure in his life. He says that this is the only form

A Middle Ground Between The Extremes Of Relying Too...
The need to find a middle ground between the extremes of relying too heavily on interpreters/texts and
the timely and consuming task of completely immersing oneself into the culture, abandoning the
anthropological eye is clear in Boas text. Although a command of the language is indispensable in the
obtainment of in depth information, Boas admits that the aim, although ideal is, entirely beyond our
reach.
Whorf acknowledges the difficulty of stepping away from his native language in order to scrutinize a
foreign tongue objectively, but insists it is essential to do so. Even if the language is learned, it can be
difficult to mentally remove oneself from his/her language s wirings , in other words, not in terms of

This thinking is innate to our hard wired neural networks and almost impossible to eliminate. Other
groups of people, however, have not been raised in a culture that makes this line of thinking natural
and understandably, we can see how ten days would not be conceivable in other societies.
Whorf and Boas each spend a considerable amount of time studying North American indigenous
cultures., Their on the field engagement to language mastery ratio, however, varied. Although Whorf
spent over two years mastering Hop language and carefully trying to extract meaning from the
dissimilarities between Hopi and SAE, he never went out into the field to speak to an actual Hopi
member. Boas, in his work with the Kwakiutl is a more involved ethnographer, who recognized the
value of first hand information, he believes any grasp of the language is valuable and can yield critical
information about the culture when combined with other methods of collection. The morality of his
methods are questionable, however. He states, Fortunately the Indian is easily misled, by the ability of
the observer to read his language, into thinking that he is also able to understand what he reads. In this
way, Boas is able to inspire the natives eagerness to be put on record. Boas cannot be deemed
disrespectful and condescending and further reading of his texts will prove the

The Problem Of Aging Population
An aging population is a population with an increased median age due to an increase in life
expectancy, accompanied by a decrease in fertility rates. This phenomena is already occurring in other
countries, and the United States is expected to undergo a similar demographic shift. The population of
citizens aged 65 and over is projected to double in the next few decades, from 43.1 million in 2012, to
83.7 million in 2050, and life expectancy is expected to rise at the same time (Ortman, Velkoff,
Hogan, others, 2014). The most important consequence of this is an increase in the percentage of older
people from 13% to 20%. An increase of these amount while seemingly insignificant is going to pose
a significant burden on the societal support systems set in place to help older individuals. These
burden while widespread across different departments, is poised to heavily impact a healthcare climate
that is already stretched to the brink. It is essential for adequate preparation to be made in form of
public policies that plan for the future. The three most important public policy issues facing the United
States are reauthorizing the Older Americans Act, ensuring long term services and supports, and health
coverage for older individuals. The Older Americans Act of 1965 was the first comprehensive federal
policy directed towards ensuring increased care for older citizens. It created the Administration on

Nickelodeon s Spongebob Squarepants has two main characters, Spongebob (of course) and
Squidward Tentacles. The two have some similarities but many difference between each other. Even
though they both live under the sea and next neighbors, it s clear that they are two different characters.
One obvious difference between Mr. Tentacles and Squarepants is their appearance. For one,
Spongebob is a yellow sponge where Squidward is, well a gray squid. Spongebob has only four limbs
and Squidward has eight. One is a long, lanky character and the other is more of a short, stubby
individual. It s clear when you look at Spongebob, you see his white shirt, brown box pants, red tie,

Spongebob does with his best friend, Patrick. Kind of explains why Squidward is continuously yelling

Spongebob and Squidward (like their personalities) have interest in absolutely two different things.
For example, Spongebob loves his job work as a fry cook as compared to Squidward, who hates the
fact that he even works as a cashier for Mr. Krabs. Spongebob loves to go jellyfishing with Patrick
while Squidward enjoy staying in his house to play his clarinet, Claire. When it comes to food,
Spongebob s favorite food is the Krabby Patty and jelly from jellyfish. Squidward s taste buds are
completely different because he likes the taste of bread in a can.

The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution
In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis on
God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an approach that
defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature independent of
received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears of the revolution
began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his theory of
heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question, experimenting, then
falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now known as the scientific
method. Scientists impacted all fields of science from cosmology to biology. The fields of
mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the scientists in their
fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields, there was a thirst for
understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new concepts. For chemistry,
it was the development of the scientific method, for mathematics, it was the organization of the
universe, and for medicine, it was the movement towards clinical practices.
Due to prominent mathematicians of the time period, the field of mathematics was expanded because
of the reason that it provided in a socially chaotic time period. In the French language, raison is the

Different Types Of Cell Cycle
Chapter five primarily covers information about cells, cell division, and the different types of cell
cycles. The cell cycle is a sequence of events that makeup the life of a typical eukaryotic cell, from the
moment of its origin, to the time it divides to produce two daughter cells. Interphase starts off the cell
cycle and it is the longest stage in the cell cycle. Most cells spend 90% or more of their life span in
interphase. Interphase is divided into three main phases G0, G1, S, and G2 phases. This portion of the
cell cycle takes in nutrients; manufactures proteins and other substances, expands in size, and
conducts special functions which depend on the cell type. The G1 phase is the first phase in the life of
a newborn cell, and is known as the gap 1 phase. The S phase is the phase that follows the G1 phase.
In this phase, cells that are destined to divide, preparations for cell division begin during the S phase.
The s in this phase stands for synthesis . This phase is responsible for replication of the cell s DNA,
and this is one of the most important responsibilities performed in this phase. G2 phase occurs after
the S phase but before the start of cell division. The G2 phase is known as the gap 2 phase. The G1
phase, S phase, and G2 phase, each make up the parts of interphase. Cell division is the last stage in
the life of an individual cell. As cell division begins, the cell contains twice the amount of DNA
because of DNA replication in the S phase. The G0

way the items were given (Terry, 2009). However, free recall permits the one to recollect in no

Exploring Mnemonics Mnemonics devices assist in memory recall (Terry, 2009). According to Seay

The Impact of Exchange Rate Fluctuation on Macroeconomic...
THE IMPACT OF EXCHANGE RATE FLUCTUATION ON MACROECONOMIC
PERFORMANCE IN NIGERIA
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
This study is designed to examine the causes of exchange rate fluctuations and their impact on the
Nigerian economy since there is scarcely any country that lives in absolute autarky in this globalised
world. The economies of all the countries of the world are linked directly or indirectly through asset
or/and goods markets. This linkage is made possible through trade and facilitated by foreign
exchange. The price of foreign currencies in terms of a local currency (i.e. foreign exchange) is
therefore important to the understanding of the growth trajectory of all countries of the world.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
In every country of the world, exchange rate level is the paramount target of economic policy
targeting. In other words, exchange rate policy should be geared towards the attainment of long term
equilibrium rate, so as to achieve certain macro economic objectives e.g. balance of payments
equilibrium, through proper management of the Nigerian exchange rate policy. The country started
operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. It was expected that
the country experience development but the reverse was the case because the country suffered
consistent hopeless development situation as her naira depreciates often against other foreign
currencies, especially the dollars which was universally accepted as the global medium of exchange.
Before the floating system was introduced, $1=NO.89 but after that in 1966 we have $1=N22.05 and
even today we have $1=N150.7 .This is quite disheartening, regardless of the effort of the government
of Nigeria through the activities of the regulatory body such as the establishment of second tier
foreign exchange market (SFEM) in 1986 and interbank foreign exchange market (IFEM) in 1989 and
currently the foreign exchange market (AFEM) in 1995.
The depreciation of naira over the years has caused many firms especially the import dependent firms
to suffer many loses as a result of exchange rate fluctuations. This has further led to difficulty in

Slope On Calculus
How can I better facilitate my students understanding of slope (rate of change) while taking calculus?
Introduction
Slope is a very important foundational and abstract mathematical topic that emerges in the secondary
mathematics curricula. It is a topic applied in many fields, including the sciences, but its conceptual
development marks a significant transition to advanced mathematical courses as in the study of
calculus. By definition, calculus is the study of change and motion. In a calculus class, a conceptual
understanding of slope is extremely crucial because it allows for the study of abstract concepts that
rely on application of slope as a rate of change. However, beginning students studying calculus have
difficulty conceptualizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that students can read the slope of a linear function using or/and compute the slope using
the famous slope formula . However, their understanding of slope as a rate of change (Q1) and slope
as a real life application (Q3) is Basic and Far Below Basic. Obviously, there is a continuous emphasis
on the procedural interpretation of slope, rather than a conceptual development. In addition, students
do not have a strong understanding that slope and rate of change are the same and can be used
interchangeably. It seems that they see slope and rate of change as two separate concepts.
Furthermore, most students had difficulty describing the importance of using slope in certain cases vs.
using rate of change in certain cases. Again, slope and rate of change are taken as two different

Coach Carter Journey
Thomas Carter s Coach Carter is a film about basketball players and nothing else... Right? Wrong!
Coach Carter is a film that dives into so much more than just basketball. Released in 2005, and based
on the true story of the 1999 Richmond High Basketball team. The film follows the lives of the
players and coach of the team, who all live and battle with their own demons.
The story is one filled with triumphs, disappointments and decisions that shape lives. It follows the
lives of Coach Ken Carter (Samuel L. Jackson), Kenyon Stone (Rob Brown), Damien Carter (Robert
Ri chard), Timo Cruz (Rick Gonzalez), Junior Battle (Nana Gbewonyo), Worm (Antonio Tanner) and
Jason Lyle (Channing Tatum). Each of these has their own issues, but then all have one ... Show more

In the majority of the scenes in which we see Coach Ken Carter, he is being shown from a low angle,
to imply power. In the scene where we see him pondering in the gym though, he is shown from a far
high angle, which signifies that he is vulnerable and indicates that he is thinking is it worth it? or am I
doing the right thing? When Cruz delivers his speech about his deepest fear, it is an eye level shot. He
is neither strong, nor weak.
There is varying lighting throughout the film. The start of the film is in a dark gym, which is a sign of
where the team was. When the team finally gets their grades up, it is all natural lighting, this is telling
us that the mood is better, and that good things are coming. But prior to that there are several scenes
where the lighting is dark. One particular scene is the one in which Rennie is shot.
The costumes are very gangster outfits. The costume designers are trying to portray a stereotypical
American teen growing up in a bad neighbourhood, a thug . The clothes are baggy, loose pants,
oversized shirts and baggy, big hoodies. As we see these boys transition into men, they start to dress in
a more professional way, which is one of the physical

Analysis Of David Orr s The Principle Of Mastering Oneself
An important point in which David Orr goes into considerable detail about is his six principles to
rethink education. First, he ensures that all education is environmental education by every mean. In
western education particularly, students are more often taught that they are apart of taught that they are
apart from the natural world, or above it if you will. Leesa Fawcett enforces this idea on page 107 by
stating:
We have been taught to measure, manage, exploit the environment, to make money off of it on the
back s of others near and far. We ve been encouraged to ignore it, to stay out of its messy dirty places.
To ignore it is to ignore ourselves, our bodies, our forces and our relationships
Fawcett implies that undeniably students are being taught that education is the way to success and
success means exploiting the environment and ignoring the importance of sustainability. Next Orr uses
the Greek term, Paideia to formulate his principle of mastering oneself is the goal of education and
subjects are the tools of doing so (Orr, 2004, pg. 9). The current education system looks at specializing
in one particular subject, and being really knowledgeable in that subject alone is what education
strives for. However, one simply cannot just study one specific subject with no reflection on others,
because that is what aids one in formulating their own ideas and understandings of not only that
subject but their position in the world as well. His idea calls upon

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) researched and studied the costs to the healthcare systems and found that the costs were $174 billion in 2007 and rose to $245 billion in 2012. The cost of diabetes in the six years has risen to an outstanding 41%. The costs of Diabetes was broke down into two categories: medical costs and lost productivity. In the 2012 cost of $245 billion, $176 billion went to medical costs and $69 billion went to lost productivity (NCBI, 2013). The largest parts of the medical costs were hospital inpatient care, prescription medicine to treat the symptoms of Diabetes, antidiabetic agents and Diabetes supplies, doctor visits, and nursing facility stays. The diagnosed people with Diabetes usually spend on average $13,700 on medical bills of which approximately $7,900 is directly related to Diabetes. Coming from being home schooled her whole life, 16 year old Cady must survive high school as she learns it is completely different from the environment in Africa. Mean Girls addresses subjects such as beauty is only skin deep in a light hearted and comedic manner, making it a movie that can be enjoyed by all ages while still spreading awareness. Moving from a secluded friendly place in Africa, Cady has no experience of growing up in the torture that is high school. She meets 2 new people on her first day who teach her about the school. Not academically, but socially. She is instantly consumed by the drama that is high school with no sense of how ruthless high school can be. Even though Mean Girls highly exaggerates high school, I think the way they did so was super effective in telling a story. I thoroughly enjoyed the comparison of the animal world which is the world Cady used to come from when living in Africa, to girl world which is where she lives now. As I see it, animal world is full of savage creatures and harm where all things are resolved with violence whereas in girl world, to survive you must be sneaky and malicious which were all things Cady had to learn to adapt to. I think this comparison was used to show how when we are thrown into a new situation, we can feel lost as if we were in a jungle in fear of our new surroundings. But in Mean Girls, Cady ... Primary Source Analysis An Overview By Lord Keeper Bacon at the Opening of Parliament, 12 January 1563 In 1563 Lord Keeper Bacon, a member of parliament, wrote a letter to Queen Elizabeth I, which was presented to parliament on January 12, 1563, requesting the issues with the church teaching be resolved. The letter argued that in order for Lord Keeper Bacon, as well as his lord bishops, to truly understand the religion, Queen Elizabeth I must reform the issues regarding the teachings of doctrine and discipline. This document is a speech on the matter of religious settlements in the early Elizabethan era. It calls for clarifications of the teachings of doctrine and discipline, which were necessary to sustain religion. Regarding the teachings of doctrine, the issues presented in this speech pertain to ministers who were either accustomed to teaching with the beliefs of Catholicism or who do not teach the true word of God. In addition, the issues regarding discipline are that the ministers and members of the church may have become corrupt with no true disciplinary consequences set forth as punishment. This document is written in a time where the religion had been changed numerous times, leaving the people, including the author, Lord Keeper Bacon, confused. Although somewhat unsure as to what the exact guidelines for the religious settlement would be, Lord Keeper Bacon was not kept in the dark. • 8. The Theories Of Nature Vs. Nurture Through history, the idea of nature vs. nurture has been a hotly debated issue. Nature, or genetics is often believed to be the most important aspect of a persons upbringing, as nature is something intrinsic to any one person. However, many debate that nurture, or the care and encouragement of any human life, trumps nature. The earliest evidence and rebuttals of these theories have been honed and developed over time by specific psychologists and educational theorists all who hoped to prove their own ideas as fact at one time in history. John Locke was the forefather of the Educational Constructivist movement, which theorized that children and learners construct their personal knowledge in both social and individual situations. Though his opinions were often disputed, Locke had many opinions and theories of the habits and social conventions for the education of young children. Specifically, and perhaps most importantly, he believed that It is more accurate to think of the child s mind as a blank slate, and whatever comes from the mind is from the environment (Crain 7). This blank slate , or tabula rasa idea founded the theory of nurture. According to his theory, as babies we are born without knowledge of what we should fear or how we should act, it is up to our environments to teach us how to act and behave. In contrast to Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau, a strict Naturalist, was more concerned with the development of a person s character and moral sense. Rousseau was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Great Leap Forward By Joseph Stalin After breaking away from a temporary alliance with the KMT during the war with Japan (1937 1945), civil war broke out between the Communist Party and the KMT; resulting in the Communist Parties victory. This lead to the founding of the People s Republic of China (PRC). Mao Zedong along with other Communist leaders set out to remodel China with his campaign of the Great Leap Forward through mass mobilisation of labour to improve agricultural and industrial production , eventually transforming China into an industrial superpower that would surpass Western countries within fifteen years. The Great Leap Forward model was borrowed from the model used by Joseph Stalin in the USSR of an enterprise that was evaluated on the basis of success indicators ... items produced, quantity of labour used and amount of raw materials depleted . Mao wanted to adapt the Stalin Model of controlled planting and production with the Asian idea of collectivisation in mind, ultimately creating China into a self sufficient industrial nation. In 1966, Mao launched the Cultural Revolution in order to reassert his authority over China and the CCP, but also ensure that China would not revert back into capitalism and cement the revolution so as not to make the same revisionist mistakes that Mao had seen in the USSR. Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media acceptance is high (Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don t measure up to the external crowd (Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack the capabilities and fall short to the external crowd s full capacity. • 31. The Theory Of The Scientific Revolution In the Scientific Revolution, there occurred a shift in humans thinking from the medieval emphasis on God s eternal unchanging world, which governed people, the universe, and nature, to an approach that defined knowledge and understanding as derived from the immutable laws of nature independent of received truth. Scientists changed the way people think about the world. The gears of the revolution began to turn when Copernicus questioned the geocentric theory, developing his theory of heliocentrism. Many scientists use the method of beginning with a question, experimenting, then falsifying the previous theory. This method of thinking became what is now known as the scientific method. Scientists impacted all fields of science from cosmology to biology. The fields of mathematics, chemistry, and medicine were drastically improved because of the scientists in their fields who discovered new concepts to propell the movement. In all three fields, there was a thirst for understanding and organization that was answered by the revolutionary new concepts. For chemistry, it was the development of the scientific method, for mathematics, it was the organization of the universe, and for medicine, it was the movement towards clinical practices. Due to prominent mathematicians of the time period, the field of mathematics was expanded because of the reason that it provided in a socially chaotic time period. • 35. Different Types Of Cell Cycle Chapter five primarily covers information about cells, cell division, and the different types of cell cycles. The cell cycle is a sequence of events that makeup the life of a typical eukaryotic cell, from the moment of its origin, to the time it divides to produce two daughter cells. Interphase starts off the cell cycle and it is the longest stage in the cell cycle. Most cells spend 90% or more of their life span in interphase. Interphase is divided into three main phases G0, G1, S, and G2 phases. This portion of the cell cycle takes in nutrients; manufactures proteins and other substances, expands in size, and conducts special functions which depend on the cell type. The G1 phase is the first phase in the life of a newborn cell, and is known as the gap 1 phase. The S phase is the phase that follows the G1 phase. In this phase, cells that are destined to divide, preparations for cell division begin during the S phase. The s in this phase stands for synthesis . This phase is responsible for replication of the cell s DNA, and this is one of the most important responsibilities performed in this phase. G2 phase occurs after the S phase but before the start of cell division. The G2 phase is known as the gap 2 phase. The G1 phase, S phase, and G2 phase, each make up the parts of interphase. Cell division is the last stage in the life of an individual cell. As cell division begins, the cell contains twice the amount of DNA because of DNA replication in the S phase. The G0 ... The country started operating the floating exchange rate system in 1986 after the introduction of SAP. • 45. Analysis Of David Orr s The Principle Of Mastering Oneself An important point in which David Orr goes into considerable detail about is his six principles to rethink education. First, he ensures that all education is environmental education by every mean. In western education particularly, students are more often taught that they are apart of taught that they are apart from the natural world, or above it if you will. Leesa Fawcett enforces this idea on page 107 by stating: We have been taught to measure, manage, exploit the environment, to make money off of it on the back s of others near and far. We ve been encouraged to ignore it, to stay out of its messy dirty places. To ignore it is to ignore ourselves, our bodies, our forces and our relationships Fawcett implies that undeniably students are being taught that education is the way to success and success means exploiting the environment and ignoring the importance of sustainability. Next Orr uses the Greek term, Paideia to formulate his principle of mastering oneself is the goal of education and subjects are the tools of doing so (Orr, 2004, pg. 9). The current education system looks at specializing in one particular subject, and being really knowledgeable in that subject alone is what education strives for. However, one simply cannot just study one specific subject with no reflection on others, because that is what aids one in formulating their own ideas and understandings of not only that subject but their position in the world as well. His idea calls upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
