Upward communication
Upwards communication is the flow of information from lower level
to higher levels in the organizations.
Example :
Managing director
General manager
Sectional manager
Supervisors
Staff and workers
Advantage of upwards communication:
1. Development of plan :
Actually information received from subordinate that helps to developed
a plan in organization.
2. Providing suggestion & opinion :
By upward communication process sub-ordinates can take suggestion
& opinion from superior.
3. Motivating of employee :
Here lower level workers get a opportunities to share his/her opinion to
superior. So subordinates are influenced to work more towards
fulfillment the target.
Advantage of upwards communication:
4. Providing feedback :
In upward communication , superior give feedback basis on the
lower level workers opinion.
5. Create favorite Environment :
Here, superior always try to helps subordinates in organization.
So a friendly environment create here.
Disadvantage of upwards communication:
1. Change of information :
There have a possibility to change of information , because it a lengthy
process .
2. Unwillingness :
sometime subordinate don’t send information to superior. So
communication system may be disrupted.
3. Risk of distortion :
subordinate don’t send a proper massage because they fear if they send
original fact to their bosses , they may faces some problem.
Disadvantage of upwards communication:
4. Indiscipline :
sometimes employees communicate directly to superior by avoiding proper
channel command . Its contain indiscipline in the organization.
5. Delay :
it is an important limitation of upward communication. It is the long &
slow movement of information to the higher authority.
Downward communication :
Downward communication is the flow of information from superior
to subordinates.

1. Increase efficiency :
It helps to increase efficiency by providing necessary information
guideline, orders and instruction .
2. Improve discipline :
In downward communications all the process are done under rule
and regulations. So discipline are properly maintained here.
3. Better relationship :
superior always give proper instructions for solving any problems
of subordinates in organizations. Subordinates are getting all
kinds of information from superior . That’s create a better
environments between superior & subordinates.
4. Avoid by passing of hierarchy , it take place by following the
establishment chain of command in the organization.
Advantage of downwards communication:
1. Loss of information :
Here some information also lose because information are flow step by
step.
2. Time consuming :
It’s a time consuming process. Information flowing are taking more
time.
3. Over and under communication :
Here employees are work over and under someone.
Disadvantage of downwards communication:
4. Tendency towards autocracy :
Here superior wants to keep subordinates under pressure.
5. Emphasis on boss interest :
Here subordinate can not take any decision .they just follow the order
and instruction of their boss. All the process is done by the basis of boss
interest .
