Thermodynamics - Heat and Temperature
Heat and temperature are different concepts. Heat is a form of energy measured in Joules, while temperature is a measure of the average kinetic energy of particles measured in Kelvin or Celsius. Objects can contain various forms of energy including kinetic energy from motion and potential energy from forces between particles. The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. - 1. 2.2 Heat and Temperature Modified
- 2. Measuring temperature? - To measure temperature, we use a thermometer - These devices give us fairly close guess on how warm or cold it is outside - Or if we are sick or not
- 3. Thermometer • Many different kinds and uses…main examples: Weather outside Body temperature • Here are some commonly used ones today:
- 4. Galileo’s Thermometer (weather) • glass vials float to the top or sink to bottom of tube based on temperature of water in tube
- 5. Mercury Thermometer (weather) • The liquid in the tubes goes up and down based on temperature
- 6. Infrared Thermometer (sick or not) • Measures body temperature of a person using a little tip inserted into the ear
- 7. Reading a thermometer • To read a thermometer we have to start at the “O” • From there we can go up in numbers which is warmer • Or go into negative numbers which is Colder
- 8. Here we can see the red line is almost at O
- 9. Warmer temperature Here we see that the red fluid is above “O” and sits close to 20 C
- 10. Colder temperatures We can see here that the red fluid is below the “O” mark. This means very cold. At “O” water begins to turn to ice
- 11. Order these thermometers as: Warmest (1), Cooler (2), and Coldest (3)
- 12. • This leads us to the next section of Storing heat and moving heat ▫ We will be building our own thermoses to protect and ice cube from heat ▫ More details to come!!!
