Rhetorical Analysis Of Mark Pagel s How Language...
Language can be seen as a communication barrier for some. Sometimes it may be difficult to talk
to a customer, distant relative, or just a person walking down the street asking for directions. Now
imagine a world where every single human being spoke the same language; a place where your
distant relative from another country suddenly speaks the same languageas you and you can begin
to appreciate or dislike them even more; where now you are connected to billions of people who
you can easily communicate with; where one universal language can now progress humankind.
In August 2011, Mark Pagel, an evolutionary biologist and a Professor and head of the
Evolutionary Biology Group at the University of Reading, gave his How Language Transformed
Humanity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through this rhetorical appeal, Professor Pagel presents his many ideas such as social learning a
trait chimpanzees lack leading them to daily repetitions and no progression, but a trait humans
acquired causing us to build wisdom, progress, and have cumulative cultural adaptation . Pagel
continues utilizing logos as he introduces his social learning is a visual theft notion. Through
logos, Pagel then explains how humans confronted this visual theft crisis and as a result language
evolved. The speaker effectively reasons that we engage in acts of exchange that are very
dependent on language and because of language we can effectively communicate leading to
prosperity. In describing these notions, Pagel uses vague statistics, however, Pagel s purpose in his
use of generalizations is perhaps to not bore his audience with numerical data but instead captivate
his audience into joining the conversation. For instance, as he explains how our ancestors, the
Homo erectus, made hand axes for one million years, Pagel mentions You can follow it through the
fossil record. . This statement may cause Pagel s audience to do some further research themselves
on the Homo erectus, engaging them to become a part of Pagel s

The Evolution of the Modern Woman as seen in Roald Dahl s...
When looking at women over the past two centuries, and comparing them to the modern women of
today, it becomes obvious that major changes have occurred. Changes such as the Industrial
Revolution; where women were brought into the working force and the Women s Rights
Movement; which began and increased voting among women. This eventually led to the
opportunity for women to hold a position in the government and eventually the independence of a
womanas well as a greater equality within society. Today women have the opportunity to run for
president, raise a family on their own as a single mother, and hold a high status position in a
company. The representation of women in The Witchesis seen in three different views in which

She is wise because of her knowledge about certain issues, specifically topics on witches, which
she shares with her grandson. She eventually gets sick and becomes very weak, however still
manages to recover and take her grandson on vacation. In addition to this, the grandmother can
certainly come across as stubborn, In the end, the doctor had his way about the holiday, but not
about the cigars (Dahl, pg. 51), here, one sees how the grandmother refuses to stop smoking
cigars even though the doctor had warned her that it may be hazardous to her health, especially
since she is still recovering form her illness. An extremely will powered woman is drastically seen
as she manages to come up with a plan to save the children of the world. Finally, towards the end of
the narrative, the grandmother is represented as a strong woman, because although things haven t
relatively gone back to normal, she continues to work by planning additional ways in which to
defeat the witches.
Through the representation of the grandmother, Roald Dahl is seeking to imply that the nature of
this woman is rendered as a comparatively single mother who because of certain obstacles
confronted with demonstrates that she cannot reflect any ounce of weakness towards her child; in
this case, her grandson. However, one eventually sees the inner sensitivity endured when (for the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Pervaporation
Observed first in 1919 by P.A. Kober, pervaporation, as the name delineates, incorporates
permeation of a component into the involved membrane matrix and the successive evaporation of
the permeated component into the vapour phase inside the membrane matrix. The vapour liquid
interface is extant inside the membrane. The component from the liquid feed that permeates into
the membrane vaporizes into its corresponding vapour state in situ and gets selectively permeated
to the other side which depends on the difference between the transport rates of the components in
the liquid feed. Generally, the feed or the upstream side is at atmospheric pressure, while the
permeate or the downstream side is kept under vacuum so as to allow the selective evaporation of
the target component after permeation through the membrane (der Bruggen et al., 2015). The
driving force is the differences in partial pressures of the components on either side of the
membrane. A thing of note: the volatility difference between the feed components does not play
any role whatsoever in determining the selectivity of the components (Huang et al., 2008). The
mechanism involved in pervaporation is the solution diffusion model.
Pervaporation membranes can be classified depending on the material used for their construction i.e

Comparing Aristotle s Six Components Of Theatre And Tragedy
Aristotle s six components of theatre/tragedy can be seen the forms of plot, characters, theme,
diction, music, and spectacle. Each factor serves a different purpose for making a theatrical tragedy
come to life.
The first most demanding task a play writer encounters is coming up with a compelling plot.
According to Aristotle, plot refers to mechanics of storytelling; such as, the sequencing of the
character s comings and goings, timetable of play events, and the primary demands of plot (logic
and suspense). An example of plot is in Stairway to Heaven by Gregory Fletcher. The plot of the
play can be described from two main characters, Elisa and Gil who unfortunately are preparing
for their dad s funeral. To add, Gil is hiding from the fact that he has to stand up and be the man of
the house and to come out that he is gay. This plot line can relate to Aristotle s component of tragedy
(plot) by the specific ordering of the revelations and discoveries . Gil s revelation is a specific
part of the plot line that the audience has no perceived notions about until the falling action of the
play when he decides to be bold for his family, but also for himself as he comes out of the closet in
an unseen dramatic way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Characters are defined as human characters who undertake actions of a plot, and without
characters a theatrical performance would not exist. An example of a character can be seen
anywhere but a prime example is Romeo in Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is a very determined, young
boy who captures the audience s attention by his unveiling love for Juliet to the point that he ends
up killing himself for her ( Romeo ). Additionally, the way that Romeo describes his deep love for
Juliet allows the audience to sympathize with him and form a connection. Without character depth
as Aristotle describes, we cannot experience love, hate, fear, or joy with the characters, like

I Am A Good Problem Solver And I Have An Analytical Brain
About 3 weeks ago
Many people have different reasons to apply for staff. Mine will sound a little cheesy but its
true. I purely enjoy helping people. It gives me a sense of gratitude when I show someone how
to do things the right way or help someone with their issues. I am a good problem solver and I
have an analytical brain. These traits make my job easy and fun. I know that staff isn t meant to
be a fun job, but keeping a cheerful attitude on job and being friendly to players makes more people
want to come back to the server. I have two modes when being staff; one cheery light mood
when I joke around and talk with players and a serious mood when dealing with issues. I
NEVER allow these two to mix together because that could jeopardize my position and probably
annoy some players. Lastly, I know that certain people apply for the rank because they think it
will bring them respect and make them cool. I have never considered this as a reason to apply
and I frankly hate these types of people. They often end up abusing their power and getting
banned. I have never abused and will never abuse. I am applying because I believe that I have
what it takes to help the server.
Why should we choose you to become staff instead of someone else?
To begin with, I feel I should take part in the staffing community here because I ensure a large
portion of qualified time as well as extreme experiences and a sincere inclination in moderating over
the chat and providing the necessary satisfaction

Clueless And Emma Analysis
So I watched both Clueless and Aisha (Bollywood) and tried to write up the connection I felt
watching both the movies; but while searching for the movie to watch I came up with yet another
interesting fact that these both are the modern version of Emma (by Jane Austen). Well I have not
gone through Emmabut then researched about the characters in it and what are its connection with
these two movies ( Clueless and Aisha ) and up with the brief summary.
Clueless (1995) stars Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz. Like Emma, she is rich and lives
with her single father. Here she is only 15 and already has her own car and spends most of her
time with her best friend, Dionne. Aisha (2010) staring Sonam Kapoor as Aisha, which is
Bollywood s version of a modern Emma. Set in the high society of Delhi, it follows Aisha in her
misguided matchmaking attempts. The Mr. Knightley character is played by her ex step
brother, Josh, played by Paul Rudd. Clueless loosely follows a lot of Emma s plotlines. Like
Emma and Cher, Aisha is a spoiled rich girl who means well but is really clueless. This one
follows the book a little more closely than Clueless did and includes more characters, like the
John Knightley and Jane Fairfax (Aarti). Cher hooks up two of her teachers and from there gets it
into her head to be a matchmaker. She decides to give this version s Harriet Smith, new girl Tai
(Brittany Murphy), a makeover and to hook her up with Elton. She convinces Tai that her crush,

Many business setups nowadays have their staff and experts spread out across various location.
While occasional business meetings, which require traveling are also quite common. Many
organizations now realize the competitive advantage, which video conferencing offers. Products
being developed are being promptly introduced to the market, issues are resolved more quickly,
everyone who is a participant in the decision does not have to travel just to be in a meeting
(Denstadli, Gripsrud, Hjorthol, Julsrud, 2013). Business communication is vital for businesses to
maintain competitiveness. Videoconferencing eliminates the barriers of business communication
and enables employees in different locations to view body languages, facial expressions and listen
to voices. Video conferencing makes business communication vivid and easy, it will make it
productive. Therefore, especially when doing business around the world, it is essential to have a
video conference for business communication (Denstadli, Julsrud, Hjorthol, 2012). The initial
quantifiable and perceived gain of video conferencing was a reduction in travel expenses. Initially,
many organizations paid for travel budget reduction and video conference deployment. Travel
savings were a visible advantage of video conferencing, but there are more qualitative advantages.
Other major benefits that video conferencing offers are increased efficiency and productivity,
enhanced business opportunities and better management

Legendary Betsy Ross and the American Flag Essay
Legendary Betsy Ross and the American Flag
The American flag has long been a symbol of our country, but there have been certain doubts
about its origin. No one really knows who sewed the American flag. The legend of Betsy Ross
has been told many times, but some people look upon it as a myth, saying Betsy Ross never even
existed. Betsy Ross was indeed a real person who lived in the 1700 s, but no one can prove she
actually sewed the American Flag.
Betsy Ross did not have an extremely interesting childhood. She was born Elizabeth Griscom on
January 1, 1752, to a Quaker couple. Her father s name was Samuel Griscom, who worked as a
carpenter. The Quakers were members of the religious society of friends. (Comptons 1). She lived in

young daughters. Then on May 8, 1783, Betsy Ross married for the third time to a man named
John Claypoole, who was the cellmate of Joseph Ashburn. They had five daughters, but John
Claypoole died in 1817. Following the death of her third husband, she lived with one of her
daughters in Philadelphia until her death on January 30, 1836 (Walters 335).
The American Flag is a symbol of our country. The leaders of the Revolution realized the need for
a distinctive American flag. Betsy Ross had taken up flag sewing in addition to upholstery. In fact,
she was the official flagmaker for the Pennsylvania Navy. George Washington came to Betsy Ross
in June of 1776 with two other men (Davidson 177).
When they came to Betsy Ross, George Washington and his committee had originally chosen a six
pointed star for the flag, but the six pointed star was the English rule (Tonn 18). Betsy convinced
them to use the design of a five pointed star, which was the French rule.
The committee of men who came to Betsy Ross were Robert Morris and Colonel Ross. Colonel
Ross was an uncle to Betsy s late husband John Ross, and that might have been the reason they
came to Betsy Ross in the first place (Compton s 1). However, she is credited to making the
Cambridge Flag, or the Continental Colors, which was raised at Somerville,

Election Day After President Of The United States
Election Day is when Americans everywhere get to cast their vote for the next President of the
United States. However, Americans don t directly vote for President. So, what s happening on
Election Day then? It is a bit complicated due to a system involving something called the Electoral
College.
The Electoral College is the collection of 538 votes that determine who will be the next President of
the United States of America. The number 538 comes from the number of Representatives, 438, plus
the number Senators, 100, all of which make up Congress. These votes, however, are not given
directly to the citizens; they are divvied up amongst the states. Every state, no matter how populous,
receives a minimum of three votes in the Electoral College. The remaining votes are then given out
in proportion to the states population (Walenta, 2010).
On Election Day, when citizens go to vote, they are not actually voting for who they want to be
the next President. They are actually only deciding who the electors will be and telling them
how they want them to vote ( Electoralvote.com ). If a candidate wins the majority of the votes in
a state, no matter how minor, he will obtain all of that state s votes. For example, Florida has 29
votes in the Electoral College, if one candidate were to receive just 51% of Florida s vote, he would
receive all of the 29 votes, even when 49% of the state did not vote for him.
There are many controversial topics regards the Electoral College and how it

The law of demand and supply is a key basis for the wage determination in the capitalistic
economy. The more the demand for employment is present, the lesser the employers, in this case,
the rich, are willing to pay. This point of view suggests that the employer seems to have leverage
in setting the wages, especially where the economy has no full employment. In the US, there is
always need for employment and that gives the employers a reason to lower wages since people
are desperate for jobs. Karl Marx suggested that the employer will only give the employees just
enough so that they might get back to work the next day. There is also the aspect of the rich having
the monopoly of employment in the economy. Rich industrialist essentially has an influence on the
employment rate of the economy. Given the recent decade, the labor rate in the country has been on
the rise prompting businesses to take their work to countries with cheaper labor like India. Since
the US government pushed for more wages, the labor market which seems to be monopolistic took

V2 Rocket
The creation of the V 2 rocket was a very important and impactful invention by the German.
There have been many cultural and social factors related to the creation of this rocket seeing
how it was built during World War 2. The creation of this rocket has also made a huge impact on
the U.S. and their aerospace field. There were many cultural factor in the development of the
V2, one of those factors was that the Nazis party believed that Germans were the pinnacle of the
human race, the Aryan race; thus, planning to instill fear into their enemies the development of
the V2, a long range ballistic missiles, came to be. (Edward, 2011) The V2 was supposed to
bombard England but was delayed until 1944 which at this point England had already been
bombarded for over four years by conventional artillery. (Edward, 2011) Another cultural factor
that played into the development of the V2 was the recession that afflicted Germany prior to the
World War. The recession was one of the major reasons that led to the rise of Nazi party in
Germany and the war that followed. It can be argued that if Germany did not experience a
recession, there would not have been a world war or a need to develop the V2.... Show more content

The Struggles Of The City Of San Bernardino Essay
The struggles of the City of San Bernardino, California are well documented; one of the highest
crime rates in the state and the country, extensive acres of urban blight, a median household
income under forty thousand, which has left residents living in poverty, a cash insolvency as a
result of mismanagement, which has left the City in chapter nine bankruptcy for three and a half
years, and a political climate distorted from lack of experience, and conflicting ideologies and

represent its employees. Most notably the firefighter s union, which has sued the City on numerous
occasions over pension, overtime and overall work conditions. As part of the City s plan to exit

These numbers are just a snap shot of the types of working being done on these sites, while

goal.) (Conservation Legacy, 2014)
Measurements of Success:
The VISTA programis assessed based on several factors including the amount of money raised, the
number of communities served, the number of youth engaged in volunteerism programs, the
number of volunteer hours worked. These measurements of success are not tied directly to the
goals of poverty alleviation, however they are indicative of whether those issues are being
addressed because VISTAs are not able to do direct service, meaning that if money is not raised
and volunteers do not show up the projects will not move (Conservation Legacy, 2014). In 2007,
the Office of Management and Budget ran an assessment on the VISTA program based on the
original purpose of the program and its design, strategic planning, program management, and
program results. The scale for the assessment was based on 0 3 stars. The VISTA program
received 1 star designating it as adequate. While the program was successful in design and
management, it underperformed in planning and results (U.S. Office of Management and Budget

Analysis Of The Prologue By Anne Bradstreet
Tierra Nick
Professor Parker
ENG 202 01
5 October 2017
The Prologue By Anne Bradstreet
Anne Bradstreet s poem, The Prologue , is about the struggle of women in a Puritan Society. In
the Puritan Society, women are held to a certain standard. Women were not able to speak their
mind, openly show they were educated, or express themselves freely, because it was looked down
on. The Prologue , is titled to mark the beginning of her work. In this poem, Bradstreet
acknowledges her role as a woman in a Puritan society, but also makes a brave attempt to achieve
freedom from the Puritan Society. Bradstreet is on a mission to prove to the Puritan society that
women are worthy enough to do what men do. Bradstreet fights for feminism. Bradstreet begins her
poem by acknowledging those superior to her: To sing of wars, of captains, and of kings
Of cities founded, commonwealths begun For my mean pen are too superior things
Or how they all, or each their dates have run
Let poets and historians set these forth
My obscure lines shall not so dim their worth
(Bradstreet 1 6) In lines 1 6, she explains that she is aware of those who contributed to society,
because they have accomplished great things, things that she cannot take away from them. She
states she will not discuss them because her mean pen are too superior things (Bradstreet 3).
Bradstreet uses too to reference her work as being also superior. She wishes to leave it to them to
talk about history without criticizing their worth and the same should be done for her. She adds the
word obscure (Bradstreet 6), to acknowledge her lines are hidden using a form of symbolism.
Symbolizing that most women are hiding their truths. Her point goes into further detail in stanza 2.
Bradstreet begins stanza 2, But when my wond ring eyes and envious heart/Great Bartas sugared
lines do but read o er (Bradstreet 7 8). Bradstreet in some way degrades her poetry, just like the
Puritan society would do. She talks about another poet Barta. When she reads his poems they
seem so great and she envy s him. She also refers to Bartas work as sugared lines referring to his
poetry as pleasurable to read. She uses Barta (a male figure), to further clarify how she will not

Protests That Were Heard Around The World Protests
The Protests That Were Heard Around The World When the colonization of modern day United
States was vastly completed, an intensifying sense of greed began to take over the minds of
governing officials, as it did in other modernizing countries. Wars began to dismiss civil and
humanitarian explanations, and instead were focused on factors such as territorial expansion and
possible resource prosperity. These factors were often held close to officials while the general
population relied on misconceptions that were created by media. The war that took place in
Vietnam was certainly no exception to this theory. When President John F. Kennedy
first sent troops
to Vietnam, it was assumed by the citizens that it was to halt the spread of communism... Show

An example of such an act was composed on March 16th, 1968, When a company of American
soldiers went into the hamlet of My Lai 4, in Quang Ngai province and rounded up the inhabitants,
including old people and women with infants in their arms, then ordered them into a ditch where
they were methodically shot to death by American soldiers (Zinn 478). This dismal behavior caught
the eye of Army investigators who ultimately made an attempt to cover up the incident but were
proven to fail as an anti war photographer captured a majority of the scenes. These letters began to
circulate in French publications almost immediately and led to the arrest of several officers who
were never assigned a worthy punishment, the most severe being a shortened sentence and house
arrest.
Though the actions that took place in mid march were nothing short of tragic, many of the antiwar
movements in The United States did not take full effect until after Nixon pledged to get United
States out of Vietnam (Zinn 483). Zinn explains how just two years after Nixon s announcement,
himself and Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger launched an invasion of Cambodia. Zinn
proclaimed that this selfish action led to an outcry of protests in The United States (Zinn 484).
After this, many different variants of distress calls were used by the citizens in

the apartment complex. A gang shooting in the city, and a rape/murder in the corner of the State.
Pete smiled and shook his head in contempt when he read that the perpetrator had been captured
within twenty four hours of the crime. The man had raped a woman who d lived on the same

selected your targets at random, ensuring that no connection could be found between them, and
changed your modus operandi with each, so that no pattern or signature could be discerned. That
was how to evade capture. Then again, the man was probably an opportunist, who d acted on

The life of Marie Curie and her Einstein Number
Marie Curie, born Maria Sklodowska was born in Warsaw, Poland. Gaining her basic education
in public schools and some of her scientific training from her father. As a student she became
involved in a Student s Revolutionary organization and found it necessary to leave Warsaw. This
move helping to give her the means to begin her longstanding career in science. She would
eventually become one of the most famous women in science to date, an icon in the scientific
community. Achieving many accolades such as scientific awards and tributes for accomplishments
for her humanitarian efforts during WWI. The physical and societal aspects of her work
contributed to shaping the world of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. All of this contributed
to how her life came to relate to the life of Albert Einstein. In 1891 she decided to go to paris, this
marked the beginning of her career in science. Once in paris, she studied at the Sorbonne where
she received her Licenciateships in physics and the Mathematical sciences. Then in 1894 she met a
professor by the name of Pierre Curie while searching for larger lab space. Though Pierre didn t
have a large laboratory, he was able to find some space for her to work. It wasn t long before their
mutual interest in science drew them together and they were married a year later. Marie did not

How Did William Harvey Influence The English Renaissance...
The Renaissance was a period where innovation, inventions and discoveries were made.
Curiosity laid the foundation for many great Renaissance Change Makers. There was no
exception for the physician named William Harvey. William Harvey had a significant influence
on the English Renaissance society, in the areas of anatomy and physiology as he disproved a
1,500 year old theory of the circulation of the blood and supplied valid evidence for his theory in
the form of a book. Whether he knew it or not, William Harveys career began when he was only
ten years old. At this age, he was first introduced to medicine at Kings College Canterbury
(Silverman, 2007, para. 13). He then followed his father s dream and pursued in the medical field.

there was no original copy of the book as it was produced through mass production and so many

Instead, curiosity about the body resulted in him recording his findings in a logical form. However,
a Greek physician by the name of Galen influenced many Renaissance physicians at the time,
which made the possible success of his theory difficult, as patients deserted his practice and the
medical community questioned his success. William Harvey shows a view of The Motion of the
Heart and Blood in animals that reflects knowledge he had gained and the support of Kings
Charles and James 1 through publicity and valued opinions. Harvey s intention was to inform the

Cardiac conduction cycle and output Cardiac conduction ensures that cardiac chambers are
stimulated to contract in a coordinated manner, which makes the heart an effective pump. The
autorhythmic fibers are self excitable; they repeatedly and rhythmically generate action potentials
that trigger heart contractions. They even continue to stimulate a heart to beat after it is removed
from the body. The contractile fibers make up the remaining working myocardial fibers in our heart.

WorldCom Inc. admitted that the company had fraudulently misclassified over $3.8 billion in

transferring billions of dollars in line cost expenses to asset accounts over a number of years.

Oxygen
Oxygen
Oxygen and its compounds play a key role in many of the important processes of life and industry.
Oxygen in the biosphere is essential in the processes of respiration and metabolism, the means by
which animals derive the energy needed to sustain life. Furthermore, oxygen is the most abundant
element at the surface of the Earth. In combined form it is found in ores, earths, rocks, and
gemstones, as well as in all living organisms. Oxygen is a gaseous chemical element in
Group VA of the periodic table. The chemical symbol for atomic oxygen is O, its atomic number
is 8, and its atomic weight is 15.9994. Elemental oxygen is known principally in the gaseous form
as the diatomic molecule, which makes up 20.95% of the volume of dry air. ... Show more content

Several different structures are known for solid oxygen: solid type III, from the lowest
temperatures achievable to 23.66 K; type II, from 23.66 to 43.76
K; and type I, from 43.76 to 54.39 K. The critical temperature for oxygen, the temperature above
which it is impossible to liquefy the gas no matter how much pressure is applied, is 154.3 K (
118.9 deg C; 181.9 deg F). The pressure of liquid and gaseous oxygen coexisting in equilibrium
at the critical temperature is 49.7 atmospheres. Oxygen gas exhibits a slight but important
solubility in water. Molecular oxygen dissolved in water is required by aquatic organisms for
their metabolic processes and is ultimately responsible for the oxidation and removal of organic
wastes in water. The solubilities of gases depend on the temperature of the solution and the
pressure of the gas over the solution. At 20 deg C (68 deg F) and an oxygen pressure of one
atmosphere, the solubility of
O(2) in water is about 45 grams of oxygen per cubic meter of water, or 45 ppm
(parts per million). Molecular diatomic oxygen is a fairly stable molecule requiring a dissociation
energy (the energy required to dissociate one mole of molecular oxygen in its ground state into
two moles of atomic oxygen in its ground state) of 493.6 kilojoules per mole. The molecule is
dissociated by ultraviolet radiation of any wavelength shorter than 193 nm. Solar radiation striking
stratospheric oxygen dissociates it into atomic oxygen for this reason.

Socrates Law Beliefs And Society
Law, beliefs and society.
Laws are not standard. They changes from state to state and obviously from country to country.
Athenians judicial system condemned to death a man for having a different belief than theirs and
in this essay I claim that Socrates acceptance of death under a failing judicial system is unvirtuous
although he tries to make it seem as a virtuous and civic act. Socrates aberration for obeying the
law is pointless. If he wants to be virtuous he must go against the system. He needs to continue
fighting back and convince others to join his cause. Evidence will be shown from Apology and
Crito to prove this claim. Resistance as civic virtue isn t death a resistance?
Virtue is found in pointing out the wrong until something is done to make it right. Socrates tells
Crito whether we must follow the opinion of the many and fear it or instead the opinion of the
one person, if there is someone who has knowledge, whom we must defer to and fear more than
all the others together (Crito 47d). He is telling us that we must follow the right path, obey the one
who is right and ignore the mob but he is not that by subjugating to asthenias beliefs made laws. I
consider his subjugation an unvirtuous act that shows he has just given up on his cause, he prefers
not to fight back and every fleeing option suggested has already been marked as impossible.
When Socrates accepts death and stops caring for the spread of his beliefs he contradicts himself
from obeying the right and is following mobocracy. By saying And at the same time, I am not
accustomed to deem myself worthy of anything bad (Apology 38b) Socrates is expressing that
he is living a rightful examined life and if we evaluate this quotation from the cause effect point
given by Socrates we can say that an examined life (cause) is worth living (effect) which leads us
to the outcome that If he does not consider himself guilty of the accusations therefore he deserves
to live. In both dialogues Socrates expresses little or no desire for escaping which makes me think
that either he gave up on his cause or he does not want to go through the suffering of being seen as
unvirtuous if he flees.
His life as a fugitive from justice is not the best life a

Principle Of Pigeonhole Principle
Pigeonhole Principle
Introduction:
In 1834, the mathematician Peter Gustav Dirichlet (1805 1859), developed the idea of what we
know today as the Pigeonhole Principle (2009). It is also commonly called Dirichlet s box principle
or Dirichlet s drawer principle in dissimilar parts of the world. The Pigeonhole Principle is an
extremely essential and easy concept to comprehend, yet when applied to higher level problem
solving can very complicated to detect and use (2009). This powerful Pigeonhole Principle may be
presented in a few different ways:
1.) If m pigeons are put into m pigeonholes, there is an unfilled hole if and only if there s a hole
with more than one pigeon, 2.) If n pigeons are put into m pigeonholes where n m, there s a hole
with more than one pigeon, 3.) Let |A| denote the number of elements in a finite ... Show more

The pigeonhole principle states that if n items are located into m containers, with n m, then at least

This theorem is exemplified in real life by axioms similar to there must have got to be at least

how the Pigeonhole Principle is essentially used, below are a few examples of the application of
this valuable idea. With each example, however, connections stuck between the pigeons and the
pigeonholes will be distinguished to help out identify with what accomplishment needs to be

Juxtaposition Between Good And Evil In The Characters Of...
The chronicles of Beowulf are episodic and carries many conundrums. Specifically, there lies an
enormous contrast between good and evil. The protagonist, Beowulf, is chivalrous, mighty, and
loyal. By the same token, Beowulf s extraordinary showing of patriotism enables him to be the
ultimate keeper of justice. On the other hand, Grendel upholds evil that is derived from pure
envious. It is important to note, that Grendel expresses a high level of combat experiences, just as
Beowulf, however, the wicked man uses his unwavering incitement for iniquitous ways. All things
considered, the juxtaposition between the great Beowulf, and the relentless Grendel, has many
significant distinctions between both characters, including, the contrast between honorable and
villainous. Although, both individuals possess superhuman characteristics, the differences in
Beowulf s confidence, ethics, and bravery will out match Grendel s jealous, irrational, and
forsaken soul; As a matter of fact, the worthy warrior will be crowned victor because God does not
let the nefarious waste away the righteous.
Above all, Beowulf s rather extraordinary confidence, encourages the demise of any opposition.
The noble warrior boasts of his skill often in Beowulf. In particular, Seamus Heaney affirms
Beowulf s public gloat:

Long term, this will benefit the employees by expanding their career and personal growth. Explain

By forming these positive habits, we hope to instill values of wanting to get better regardless of the
challenge. The culture should extend beyond just learning the bare minimum, or just learning the
mandatory five systems, but for team members to be empowered to learn and strive for more
regardless of the challenge. If we are successful in obtaining that level of commitment and culture
change, we are confident that the results will speak for themselves.
When the pod system is completed we can envision this being rolled out to other CSC teams in the
EUS department. We ve offered any additional feedback over the course of the year to Patrick in
the hopes that other CSC teams will embrace this strategy.
As an ongoing measure of training consider switching people twice a month in the pod to work
on items of another teammate, while both teammates are still at work. This will allow them to
bounce questions off of each other versus having to fend for themselves when someone does go
on vacation. This also allows them to keep up on the systems that they have learned. Continuing to
do this year over year will allow them to learn new systems and feel comfortable asking questions

Comparing Odyssey And Siren Song
In an excerpt from Homer s The Odyssey and Siren Song by Margaret Atwood, the speaker s point
of view shapes the portrayal of the alluring and dangerous aspects of the Sirens.
In Atwood s poem, the Sirens are described as alluring from one Siren s point of view due to their
knowledge of how to appeal to men s desires to be heroic, while in Homer s excerpt, Odysseus
point of view believes that the Sirens are appealing solely to him. For example, Odysseus describes
the Siren s voices as honeyed, and to add to the image, pouring from their lips . Honey is generally
sweet, but can also be sticky, resembling the Siren s tactics attempting to lure men in. In the same
excerpt, Odysseus recalls the Sirens call as famous Odysseus, Achaea s

The Importance Of Foreign Aid
Foreign aid is given to selected developing countries, and is necessary in order to protect the
people and build a stable society. Australia is part of the worldwide foreign aid commitment and
plans to give $3.9 billion over 2017 and 2018. Australians believe everyone should live with basic
human rights which is why we give aid, and help countries by contributing money, food and
resources. The main types of aid are humanitarian aid, which is disaster/emergency relief and
development aid, which is a long term commitment between nations. Australian aid is mainly
focused on development aid, and helps nations worldwide. Interestingly, 90% of Australia s foreign
aid goes to Asia Pacificcountries such as Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. This gives Australia a
stronger relationship with regional nations, providing the country with a strong relation, trading
partner and partner in defence. Aid is a polarizing issue that divides the nation due to the two
differing views on Australia giving aid, should the country give foreign aid or not? A strong
foreign aid program is vital for Australia to build successful relations and regional security.
A large section of the population believes that Australia should reduce the amount of aid given.
The article What is the future of foreign aid? (Article 1) published by the guardian is against
foreign aid in its current form. This is justified through the article quote The debate over the extent
of aid is, and whenever it should continue is

Syrian Jets Bombed A Marketplace
Syrian jets bombed a marketplace in Douma, Syria in August of 2015 (Robins Early 5). This was
an attack that occurred in the midst of the Syrian civil war, a war between the government (led by
President Bashar al Assad) and rebel civilians. The current civil war revolves around a conflict
regarding the balance of power within the country, while an immense number of innocent civilians
are being caught in the center of the violenceand instability that the brutal waris causing. Over 4
million people have left the country as refugees, while others have been unable to escape the

According to the United Nations (U.N.), the total number of children deaths has been over
8,500, including 2,000 under the age of 10 (Omer 1). This brutal war has undoubtedly affected
the lives of many Syrian citizens, and while the death toll continues to rise, the lives of Syrian
children are being affected the most, as they are most vulnerable to the damage. Anthony Lake,
the executive director of the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF), says that Never in
recent memory have so many children been subjected to such unspeakable brutality (Omer 1).
While many children are being affected by crises around the world, UNICEF s executive director
believes that this war that has been going on for half a decade is what has been most cruel towards
children because of the violent nature of the war that takes place amongst them. Wynn Flaten, the
director of World Vision s SyriaCrisis Regional Response team, says that refugee children need
special protection. They need to get into schools. Even when they can get in, often the classrooms
are overflowing with extra students, or they are bullied to such an extent that they no longer even
want to go (Omer 2). The war is affecting the children greatly, as when they try to get the education
they want, they are often rejected by either the school or the bullies within them. Either way, they
are turned away from getting a proper education,

The Literature And The Individual Child
Traditionally, the term popular culture has denoted the culturedness of the lower classes as opposed
to the fine arts or high culture, consumed by the wealthy.
The distinction between culturedness of the classes is a socially constructed distinction and is
susceptible to change over time; based on the modern ability of all classes to enjoy any popular
culture format they choose.
The literature and the individual child

Often as adults, we dismiss the culture that children see as valuable in opposition to what is
perceived as superior, to adults. Adults often see children s culture as dumbed down or innocent.
Dismissing children s pop culture as just entertainment or as fluff, misses the overt and covert
messages embedded in the medium and the value these items can possess for literacy.
Pop culture s overt and covert messages
Most reference literature is framed around the psychological perspectives of popular culture and
argue that children are proceeding towards an adult state in their courses of thought. The focus

domination of behaviours and attitudes such as: o Violence, most notably o Gender stereotyping o
Notions of overt sexuality o Stereotypical representations of race and national identities o Class o
Power o Exploitation both of children and of parents
Children s popular culture icons and their messages: o The Disney Princess characters generate
$4billion whilst sending out subtle messages about societal expectations relating to gender and

Sql Injection And Prevention Techniques
SQL INJECTION AND PREVENTION TECHNIQUES
Abstract
SQL Injection is one of the main database attack mechanisms used by hackers to loot organization
s data from databases. Hacker target the application layer program and takes advantage of the
improper coding methods to inject SQL command into a web form and then gain access to the
database. SQL injection may adversely affect the integrity of the database and may reveal sensitive
data of the organization. The intensity of the SQL injection attack vary depend on the capabilities
of the backend database in use. With the help of SQL injection hacker can change existing
queries, attach additional queries, read in or write to file or execute operating system command
from the database. To protect organization data from SQL injection we need to apply security
measures in the application layer and in the database layer. The purpose of this study is to analyze
the database functionalities/security holes, mainly Oracle and MySQL, and propose the preventive
measures database developers need to consider in the database layer while working with these
databases to secure data from SQL injection.

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of Mark Pagel s How Language... Language can be seen as a communication barrier for some. Sometimes it may be difficult to talk to a customer, distant relative, or just a person walking down the street asking for directions. Now imagine a world where every single human being spoke the same language; a place where your distant relative from another country suddenly speaks the same languageas you and you can begin to appreciate or dislike them even more; where now you are connected to billions of people who you can easily communicate with; where one universal language can now progress humankind. In August 2011, Mark Pagel, an evolutionary biologist and a Professor and head of the Evolutionary Biology Group at the University of Reading, gave his How Language Transformed Humanity ... Through this rhetorical appeal, Professor Pagel presents his many ideas such as social learning a trait chimpanzees lack leading them to daily repetitions and no progression, but a trait humans acquired causing us to build wisdom, progress, and have cumulative cultural adaptation . Pagel continues utilizing logos as he introduces his social learning is a visual theft notion. Through logos, Pagel then explains how humans confronted this visual theft crisis and as a result language evolved. The speaker effectively reasons that we engage in acts of exchange that are very dependent on language and because of language we can effectively communicate leading to prosperity. In describing these notions, Pagel uses vague statistics, however, Pagel s purpose in his use of generalizations is perhaps to not bore his audience with numerical data but instead captivate his audience into joining the conversation. For instance, as he explains how our ancestors, the Homo erectus, made hand axes for one million years, Pagel mentions You can follow it through the fossil record. . This statement may cause Pagel s audience to do some further research themselves on the Homo erectus, engaging them to become a part of Pagel s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When looking at women over the past two centuries, and comparing them to the modern women of today, it becomes obvious that major changes have occurred. Changes such as the Industrial Revolution; where women were brought into the working force and the Women s Rights Movement; which began and increased voting among women. This eventually led to the opportunity for women to hold a position in the government and eventually the independence of a womanas well as a greater equality within society. Today women have the opportunity to run for president, raise a family on their own as a single mother, and hold a high status position in a company. Finally, towards the end of the narrative, the grandmother is represented as a strong woman, because although things haven t relatively gone back to normal, she continues to work by planning additional ways in which to defeat the witches. • 4. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Pervaporation Observed first in 1919 by P.A. Kober, pervaporation, as the name delineates, incorporates permeation of a component into the involved membrane matrix and the successive evaporation of the permeated component into the vapour phase inside the membrane matrix. The vapour liquid interface is extant inside the membrane. The component from the liquid feed that permeates into the membrane vaporizes into its corresponding vapour state in situ and gets selectively permeated to the other side which depends on the difference between the transport rates of the components in the liquid feed. Generally, the feed or the upstream side is at atmospheric pressure, while the permeate or the downstream side is kept under vacuum so as to allow the selective evaporation of the target component after permeation through the membrane (der Bruggen et al., 2015). The driving force is the differences in partial pressures of the components on either side of the membrane. A thing of note: the volatility difference between the feed components does not play any role whatsoever in determining the selectivity of the components (Huang et al., 2008). The mechanism involved in pervaporation is the solution diffusion model. Pervaporation membranes can be classified depending on the material used for their construction i.e organic, inorganic and ... • 7. Comparing Aristotle s Six Components Of Theatre And Tragedy Aristotle s six components of theatre/tragedy can be seen the forms of plot, characters, theme, diction, music, and spectacle. Each factor serves a different purpose for making a theatrical tragedy come to life. The first most demanding task a play writer encounters is coming up with a compelling plot. According to Aristotle, plot refers to mechanics of storytelling; such as, the sequencing of the character s comings and goings, timetable of play events, and the primary demands of plot (logic and suspense). An example of plot is in Stairway to Heaven by Gregory Fletcher. The plot of the play can be described from two main characters, Elisa and Gil who unfortunately are preparing for their dad s funeral. To add, Gil is hiding from the fact that he has to stand up and be the man of the house and to come out that he is gay. This plot line can relate to Aristotle s component of tragedy (plot) by the specific ordering of the revelations and discoveries . Gil s revelation is a specific part of the plot line that the audience has no perceived notions about until the falling action of the play when he decides to be bold for his family, but also for himself as he comes out of the closet in an unseen dramatic way. ... I purely enjoy helping people. It gives me a sense of gratitude when I show someone how to do things the right way or help someone with their issues. I am a good problem solver and I have an analytical brain. These traits make my job easy and fun. I know that staff isn t meant to be a fun job, but keeping a cheerful attitude on job and being friendly to players makes more people want to come back to the server. I have two modes when being staff; one cheery light mood when I joke around and talk with players and a serious mood when dealing with issues. I NEVER allow these two to mix together because that could jeopardize my position and probably annoy some players. Lastly, I know that certain people apply for the rank because they think it will bring them respect and make them cool. I have never considered this as a reason to apply and I frankly hate these types of people. They often end up abusing their power and getting banned. I have never abused and will never abuse. I am applying because I believe that I have what it takes to help the server. Why should we choose you to become staff instead of someone else? • 9. Clueless And Emma Analysis So I watched both Clueless and Aisha (Bollywood) and tried to write up the connection I felt watching both the movies; but while searching for the movie to watch I came up with yet another interesting fact that these both are the modern version of Emma (by Jane Austen). Well I have not gone through Emmabut then researched about the characters in it and what are its connection with these two movies ( Clueless and Aisha ) and up with the brief summary. Clueless (1995) stars Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz. Like Emma, she is rich and lives with her single father. Here she is only 15 and already has her own car and spends most of her time with her best friend, Dionne. Aisha (2010) staring Sonam Kapoor as Aisha, which is Bollywood s version of a modern Emma. Set in the high society of Delhi, it follows Aisha in her misguided matchmaking attempts. The Mr. Knightley character is played by her ex step brother, Josh, played by Paul Rudd. Clueless loosely follows a lot of Emma s plotlines. Like Emma and Cher, Aisha is a spoiled rich girl who means well but is really clueless. This one follows the book a little more closely than Clueless did and includes more characters, like the John Knightley and Jane Fairfax (Aarti). Cher hooks up two of her teachers and from there gets it into her head to be a matchmaker. She decides to give this version s Harriet Smith, new girl Tai (Brittany Murphy), a makeover and to hook her up with Elton. She convinces Tai that her crush, stoner ... • 14. Election Day After President Of The United States Election Day is when Americans everywhere get to cast their vote for the next President of the United States. However, Americans don t directly vote for President. So, what s happening on Election Day then? It is a bit complicated due to a system involving something called the Electoral College. The Electoral College is the collection of 538 votes that determine who will be the next President of the United States of America. The number 538 comes from the number of Representatives, 438, plus the number Senators, 100, all of which make up Congress. These votes, however, are not given directly to the citizens; they are divvied up amongst the states. Every state, no matter how populous, receives a minimum of three votes in the Electoral College. The remaining votes are then given out in proportion to the states population (Walenta, 2010). On Election Day, when citizens go to vote, they are not actually voting for who they want to be the next President. They are actually only deciding who the electors will be and telling them how they want them to vote ( Electoralvote.com ). If a candidate wins the majority of the votes in a state, no matter how minor, he will obtain all of that state s votes. For example, Florida has 29 votes in the Electoral College, if one candidate were to receive just 51% of Florida s vote, he would receive all of the 29 votes, even when 49% of the state did not vote for him. In the US, there is always need for employment and that gives the employers a reason to lower wages since people are desperate for jobs. • 19. Analysis Of The Prologue By Anne Bradstreet Tierra Nick Professor Parker ENG 202 01 5 October 2017 The Prologue By Anne Bradstreet Anne Bradstreet s poem, The Prologue , is about the struggle of women in a Puritan Society. In the Puritan Society, women are held to a certain standard. Women were not able to speak their mind, openly show they were educated, or express themselves freely, because it was looked down on. The Prologue , is titled to mark the beginning of her work. In this poem, Bradstreet acknowledges her role as a woman in a Puritan society, but also makes a brave attempt to achieve freedom from the Puritan Society. Bradstreet is on a mission to prove to the Puritan society that women are worthy enough to do what men do. Bradstreet fights for feminism. Bradstreet begins her poem by acknowledging those superior to her: To sing of wars, of captains, and of kings Of cities founded, commonwealths begun For my mean pen are too superior things Or how they all, or each their dates have run Let poets and historians set these forth My obscure lines shall not so dim their worth (Bradstreet 1 6) In lines 1 6, she explains that she is aware of those who contributed to society, because they have accomplished great things, things that she cannot take away from them. She states she will not discuss them because her mean pen are too superior things (Bradstreet 3). Bradstreet uses too to reference her work as being also superior. She wishes to leave it to them to talk about history without criticizing their worth and the same should be done for her. She adds the word obscure (Bradstreet 6), to acknowledge her lines are hidden using a form of symbolism. Symbolizing that most women are hiding their truths. Her point goes into further detail in stanza 2. Bradstreet begins stanza 2, But when my wond ring eyes and envious heart/Great Bartas sugared lines do but read o er (Bradstreet 7 8). Bradstreet in some way degrades her poetry, just like the Puritan society would do. She talks about another poet Barta. When she reads his poems they seem so great and she envy s him. She also refers to Bartas work as sugared lines referring to his poetry as pleasurable to read. She uses Barta (a male figure), to further clarify how she will not challenge the ... Protests That Were Heard Around The World Protests The Protests That Were Heard Around The World When the colonization of modern day United States was vastly completed, an intensifying sense of greed began to take over the minds of governing officials, as it did in other modernizing countries. Wars began to dismiss civil and humanitarian explanations, and instead were focused on factors such as territorial expansion and possible resource prosperity. These factors were often held close to officials while the general population relied on misconceptions that were created by media. The war that took place in Vietnam was certainly no exception to this theory. When President John F. This dismal behavior caught the eye of Army investigators who ultimately made an attempt to cover up the incident but were proven to fail as an anti war photographer captured a majority of the scenes. These letters began to circulate in French publications almost immediately and led to the arrest of several officers who were never assigned a worthy punishment, the most severe being a shortened sentence and house arrest. Though the actions that took place in mid march were nothing short of tragic, many of the antiwar movements in The United States did not take full effect until after Nixon pledged to get United States out of Vietnam (Zinn 483). Zinn explains how just two years after Nixon s announcement, himself and Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger launched an invasion of Cambodia. Zinn proclaimed that this selfish action led to an outcry of protests in The United States (Zinn 484). After this, many different variants of distress calls were used by the citizens in ... Whether he knew it or not, William Harveys career began when he was only ten years old. At this age, he was first introduced to medicine at Kings College Canterbury (Silverman, 2007, para. 13). Furthermore, oxygen is the most abundant element at the surface of the Earth. In combined form it is found in ores, earths, rocks, and gemstones, as well as in all living organisms. Oxygen is a gaseous chemical element in Group VA of the periodic table. The chemical symbol for atomic oxygen is O, its atomic number is 8, and its atomic weight is 15.9994. Elemental oxygen is known principally in the gaseous form as the diatomic molecule, which makes up 20.95% of the volume of dry air. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The critical temperature for oxygen, the temperature above which it is impossible to liquefy the gas no matter how much pressure is applied, is 154.3 K ( 118.9 deg C; 181.9 deg F). The pressure of liquid and gaseous oxygen coexisting in equilibrium at the critical temperature is 49.7 atmospheres. Oxygen gas exhibits a slight but important solubility in water. Molecular oxygen dissolved in water is required by aquatic organisms for their metabolic processes and is ultimately responsible for the oxidation and removal of organic wastes in water. The solubilities of gases depend on the temperature of the solution and the pressure of the gas over the solution. At 20 deg C (68 deg F) and an oxygen pressure of one atmosphere, the solubility of O(2) in water is about 45 grams of oxygen per cubic meter of water, or 45 ppm (parts per million). Molecular diatomic oxygen is a fairly stable molecule requiring a dissociation energy (the energy required to dissociate one mole of molecular oxygen in its ground state into two moles of atomic oxygen in its ground state) of 493.6 kilojoules per mole. • 34. Socrates Law Beliefs And Society Law, beliefs and society. Laws are not standard. They changes from state to state and obviously from country to country. Athenians judicial system condemned to death a man for having a different belief than theirs and in this essay I claim that Socrates acceptance of death under a failing judicial system is unvirtuous although he tries to make it seem as a virtuous and civic act. Socrates aberration for obeying the law is pointless. If he wants to be virtuous he must go against the system. He needs to continue fighting back and convince others to join his cause. Evidence will be shown from Apology and Crito to prove this claim. Resistance as civic virtue isn t death a resistance? Virtue is found in pointing out the wrong until something is done to make it right. Socrates tells Crito whether we must follow the opinion of the many and fear it or instead the opinion of the one person, if there is someone who has knowledge, whom we must defer to and fear more than all the others together (Crito 47d). He is telling us that we must follow the right path, obey the one who is right and ignore the mob but he is not that by subjugating to asthenias beliefs made laws. I consider his subjugation an unvirtuous act that shows he has just given up on his cause, he prefers not to fight back and every fleeing option suggested has already been marked as impossible. When Socrates accepts death and stops caring for the spread of his beliefs he contradicts himself from obeying the right and is following mobocracy. By saying And at the same time, I am not accustomed to deem myself worthy of anything bad (Apology 38b) Socrates is expressing that he is living a rightful examined life and if we evaluate this quotation from the cause effect point given by Socrates we can say that an examined life (cause) is worth living (effect) which leads us to the outcome that If he does not consider himself guilty of the accusations therefore he deserves to live. In both dialogues Socrates expresses little or no desire for escaping which makes me think that either he gave up on his cause or he does not want to go through the suffering of being seen as unvirtuous if he flees. The Pigeonhole Principle is an extremely essential and easy concept to comprehend, yet when applied to higher level problem solving can very complicated to detect and use (2009). It is important to note, that Grendel expresses a high level of combat experiences, just as Beowulf, however, the wicked man uses his unwavering incitement for iniquitous ways. All things considered, the juxtaposition between the great Beowulf, and the relentless Grendel, has many significant distinctions between both characters, including, the contrast between honorable and villainous. The culture should extend beyond just learning the bare minimum, or just learning the mandatory five systems, but for team members to be empowered to learn and strive for more regardless of the challenge. If we are successful in obtaining that level of commitment and culture change, we are confident that the results will speak for themselves. When the pod system is completed we can envision this being rolled out to other CSC teams in the EUS department. We ve offered any additional feedback over the course of the year to Patrick in the hopes that other CSC teams will embrace this strategy. As an ongoing measure of training consider switching people twice a month in the pod to work on items of another teammate, while both teammates are still at work. This will allow them to bounce questions off of each other versus having to fend for themselves when someone does go on vacation. This also allows them to keep up on the systems that they have learned. Continuing to do this year over year will allow them to learn new systems and feel comfortable asking questions when their coworker is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hacker target the application layer program and takes advantage of the improper coding methods to inject SQL command into a web form and then gain access to the database. SQL injection may adversely affect the integrity of the database and may reveal sensitive data of the organization. The intensity of the SQL injection attack vary depend on the capabilities of the backend database in use. With the help of SQL injection hacker can change existing queries, attach additional queries, read in or write to file or execute operating system command from the database. To protect organization data from SQL injection we need to apply security measures in the application layer and in the database layer.
