Hardball Summary
Chris Matthew s Hardball consists of four different parts containing different themes and policies
on how the political world is run. All four parts: Alliances, Enemies, Deals, and Reputations contain
personal anecdotes, historical context of Presidents careers, and rules Matthew s has formed
throughout political experience. The beginning of each chapter starts off with a quote that
foreshadows the subject of each chapter. Although Matthews does establish important rules to
follow as a politician, I disagree with some of his points even though I am a democrat like him.
Part One, Alliances, starts off with the importance of one on one relationships. The sole purpose of
these one on one relationships, which in political terminology is known as retail politics can
provide a personal and political awareness for the other individual s concerns. This triggers a chance
for the one who is performing the retail action the opportunity to network. Lyndon B. Johnson
created the Johnson... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It doesn t matter how much experienced you ve stocked on a resume. Getting ahead is
sometimes falsely claiming to care for other concerns in order to gain the support of others. Yes,
I agree that networking is an important aspect to get ahead in life. Many people I ve met have
emphasized that in order to be successful, one must network. I m glad to know that Matthews
took the risk of knocking on many top politicians doors in order to seek job opportunities, and I
m also glad that he took a lesson in starting from a smaller position than just sprinting to the top.
A lot of people are desperate for a reward, but what they don t realize is that it takes years to get
to that destination. I m satisfied with the majority of the content in this chapter; however, I would
never waste my time trying to win the support of another politician in order for me to sympathize
with a preoccupation I do not care for at

Meeting Luisa At The Bank
Although we were not meeting Luisa at the bank until 11:00 o clock, we arrived in Marsciano
early the next morning to wander around town. From a nearly home owner s perspective, we
looked at everything anew. Marsciano was going to be our home town in Italy, where we would
shop, attend community events, the weekly market, dine in restaurants and make new friends. As
we did with Johannes, we parked the car near the community elevator and took the lift up to the
center of town. We nodded our heads to the locals and bid them Bouna giornata; a Good Day
when our eyes met in passing. We window shopped at the boutiques on the Corso Umberto,
surprised by the high quality merchandise for sale in such a humble village. Soon, we saw Luisa...

How could this possibly be real? Our lunch was even more delicious than the first time and our
conversation was also more spirited. We vowed to take Italian lessons as soon as we returned to
California. Vince was bound and determined to attend the Deed Signing ceremony in Perugia in
May which meant that he would sign on my behalf so that I could accumulate my vacation time
off from work for the actual Moving In and Setting Up House in the Fall. I asked Vince to paint
each room before and acquire a bed, a table and some chairs during his visit in May so that when
I arrived in September we had a place to sleep and the apartment was spic and span clean. It was
already dark and raining gently when we arrived at the front door of B B Garibaldi in the early
evening. Vince inserted the key into the front door lock, when much to his surprise, he felt the
key snap in two as he turned it to unlock the door, leaving the stem in the keyhole. Oh great! Now
what do we do? Vince said as he pulled the remaining part of the key out of the lock and looked
at it bewildered in his hand. I don t know I answered. David emphatically asked us not to ring the
doorbell because his grandmother is always sleeping. Let s try knocking on the door or calling
his name. I believe that s his balcony. I m not going to yell out his name in the street. Vince
responded. I reminded him that the only people we know were the Real Estate people. Let s see if

Snow Imagery in “Desert Places” and “Stopping by Woods
on...
Robert Frost (1874 1963). Robert Frost was the most widely admired and highly honoured
American poet of the 20th century (Eiermann). Robert Frost was raised in rural New England
where he grew a fond love for the outdoors and nature (Merriman). His love with nature elements
has probably overwhelmed him so much that it has been reflected upon in many of his poems such
as The Tuft of Flowers, Reluctance, and Birches. One of the nature imageries that have been used
frequently by Robert Frostis the snow imagery. Although the snow imagery appears in many
other poems by Frost we will be dealing with the poems Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on
a Snowy Evening. Even though Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy... Show more

It is also because of the mysteriousness of the woods being lovely, dark, and deep (Frost,
Stopping., line 13) that makes the speaker mesmerized. The snow in this poem gave the speaker
calmness by the woods and gives the poem the mood of welcome and mysteriousness whereas in
Desert Places the snow establishes the mood of loneliness and emptiness. Therefore, if the snow
imagery made the mood of the poems different, then evidently the snow imagery will make the
themes of the two poems different as well.
From the different manipulations of the snow imagery on the moods in Desert Places and
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening it made their themes distinctly different from each other.
The snow that surrounded the speaker in Desert Places made the field look like an open, empty,
lonely place. It is from the surroundings that the speaker creates his own loneliness. From this, it is
clear that the speaker s loneliness inside himself/ herself overwhelms them so much that it causes
their outlook to be of only loneliness. So in Desert Places the theme is that the loneliness that is
created from within of the speaker causes him/her to realize or see the loneliness that is inside them
and also the loneliness that surrounds them, which is nature.
In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy

Teaching Styles Within The Classroom
Teaching Physical Education today is more intricate than most people might think it is or was
years ago. Classrooms today include students of a very large spectrum. This can include students
who learn visually, auditory, by being hands on or even students who participate in adaptive
classrooms. Basically, every student in any classroom seems to learn slightly differently than their
classmate these days. Too many teachers are avoiding including multiple teaching styles in their
classrooms due to the potential increase in effort and preparation that follows, but it is crucial that
Physical Educators are aware of the importance of teaching styles in the classroom. A teacher who
can properly incorporate multiple teaching styles into their classrooms is an example of a
successful and effective teacher. Students in today s physical educationclassrooms vary greatly
among great levels. In order for teachers to effectively teach every single one of their students, they
need to incorporate different teaching styles into their daily routine. One example of a teaching
style is the direct teaching style. The direct teaching style is the most commonly used teaching style
in Physical Education classrooms, so it can also be considered the most effective in a normal
classroom setting. Direct teaching, or otherwise known as Command style teaching is self
explanatory in the fact that it the most command like style. The teacher is the leader of the
classroom and provides their students with

Best Drive In Movie Theaters in the US
When we think of drive in movie theaters, we picture black and white movies, vintage cars, diners,

tradition. Over the years, while technology may have transformed the movie industry, some prefer
to remain faithful to the tradition.
Before heading down to the theater, make sure you have a KevianClean Auto Detailing Towel in

In-Depth Analysis of Smart Phone Industry
1. Provide an in depth analysis of the competitive forces and strategic issues shaping the
Smartphone Tablet industry from 2011 onwards
From 2011onwards, there was advancement of technology in Apple Company under the leadership
and involvement of Steve Jobs. Although he had delegated the day to day operations to Tim Cook,
he was still involved in the company s major decision making. The company unveiled iCloud,
which was an online storage facility for photos, music and files. Iphone 4S was introduced later on
October 2011, which had 1080p video recording camera, an A4 dual chip with high capability, cloud

The customers bargaining power is another force that presents a competitive pressure on companies
in this industry. Customers are more interested on the brand identity with much preference on the
emergent ones. They tend to be loyal to price elasticity and hence companies are left to compete in
cutting costs. Obviously, consumers will go for products with low prices and therefore companies
such as Apple would not risk being expensive. The more expensive a company s products are the
less the number of buyers received. Immediately a substitute enters the market, everything to do
with the existing products becomes competitive. Consumers are left to make considerate choices
between the product and its substitutes. The Smartphone Tablet industry is characterized by
emergent of various brands within short ranges of time. These brands become substitutes and
affect the pricing strategy adversely. This is a force that Apple and the other companies have to
deal with as far as their survival in the market is concerned.
A barrier to entry is another competitive force that Apple and other companies endure. The
possibilities of entering a particular market are limited by factors such as technology, time and cost
advantage, economies of scale and knowledge. If a certain market is characterized by a certain
level of technology, companies

ABSTRACT We analyzed the e business websites of Realestate.yahoo.com, Realtor.com, and
Zillow.com. We looked at the similarities and differences between them and how e business
components help differentiate one company from another and the role this plays in contributing to
their success. We looked at which business model components, such as value proposition, target
customers, distribution channels, and revenue streams, are important. The type of e business

Dubosson Torbay et al. (2002) identify the principal dimensions user s role, interaction pattern,
nature of the offering, pricing system, level of customization, and economic control for classifying
e business models. Rappa (2001) describes companies by their value proposition and ways of
generating revenue. His classification has nine categories of e business models: brokerage model,
advertising model, infomediary model, merchant model, manufacturer model, affiliate model,
community model, subscription model and utility model. E business models are comprised of a set
of components so we need to choose the appropriate application framework to define the
relationship between them. The growth of e business has raised interest in transforming traditional
business models to exploit opportunities through innovation (Pateli and Giaglis, 2003). The internet
has changed the idea of a business model and this has practical implications for companies.
Consequently, companies need to redefine customer value propositions, and their business model.
Enhancing customer experience helps to reshape customer value propositions (Berman and Bell,
2011). Creating new digital capabilities helps to refine the operating model by leveraging
information to manage organizations, and integrating and optimizing digital and physical

Examples Of Glory In Beowulf
The Anglo Saxons were Germanic tribes from the German regions of Angeln and Saxony that
had moved over to Britain. They had conquered the Jutes and Frisians from Denmark. In the time
period where the Anglo Saxon s were living and thriving (410 660 A.D.), glory was one of the
more important points of their beliefs. They wanted glory for their king, glory for their warrior
tribe, glory for themselves, and finally, glory for their ancestors. Glory was the thread that kept the
Anglo Saxon culture, the warrior clans, and epic heroes, such as Beowulfhimself, truly glorious.
Glory kept the Anglo Saxon culture important in the Anglo Saxonslifestyle and truly glorious. For

Though in Beowulf there is no war going on between two tribes, Beowulf fights many
supernatural monsters such as the sea monsters and Grendel. When Beowulf was sinking down
to the bottom of the lake to fight Grendel s mother, he was not only going to fight Grendel s
mom. She had various sea monsters in her cave to help tear Beowulf apart. Luckily for Beowulf,
the only thing that kept him alive was his unbreakable chain mail. He does fight the sea
monsters, but his main goal was to kill Grendel s mom. ...a bewildering horde came at him from
the depths, droves of sea beasts who attacked with tusks and tore at his chain mail in a ghastly
onslaught (105). Not only was killing Grendel s mom not going to be easy, it is even harder
when there is a group of terrifying sea monsters that are trying to kill you too! As king, Beowulf
fights a dragon because some stupid thief could not keep himself from taking a piece of its
treasure. Not only does the dragon try to kill the thief, but it tries to burn the whole city down in

Antisemitism in the Middle Ages
In the year of 1492, most people instantly think of the Columbus discovery of the New World.
But in the joy of the discovery of the New World also comes the tragedy of the Old World. The
Spanish Inquisition was one of the darkest periods of time in Jewish history. Christianity s view
of other religions as inferior is portrayed in many well known pieces of literature, including one of
William Shakespeare s most famous plays, The Merchant of Venice. Towering over Shakespeare s
romantic comedy The Merchant of Venice is the tragic figure of Shylock, a man who represents the
treatment of the Jewish people in his time period. Before beginning to understand Shylock, it is

A decision was eventually made and the Venetian Republic decided to allow them to remain and
ordered the segregation of the Jews of the city in a special quarter, formerly known as Ghetto Nuova,
a small, dirty island which became the world s first ghetto. A little later, the Ghetto Vecchio, was
added to the district. Hence the term Ghetto spread throughout Italy, where the Jewish quarters,
compulsorily established in subsequent years, became known officially by this name, (Roth. 273.)
Jews of Italian and German origin both moved into this ghetto. The Germans came to Venice to
seek refuge from of persecution in their former communities, while the Italians came from Rome
and from the South, where they faced anti Semitism.
Jews from the Levant, who practiced Sephardic traditions, moved into Ghetto Vecchio in 1541. The
Spanish and Portuguese Jews also came to Venice in the late 16th century and were the strongest
and wealthiest community in the ghetto. Many of the Spanish and Portuguese Jews were Marranos
and became Jewish again once moving to Venice. The Spanish/Portuguese and Levantines lived in
the Ghetto Vecchio.
The German, Italian and Levantine communities were independent, yet lived side by side to one
another. A hierarchy existed among them, in which the Sephardic/Levantine Jews were at the top
of the scale, Germans in the middle and Italians at the lowest rung on the hierarchal ladder.

Ethics And Ethical Impacts Of Information And...

have been cases reported of an individual s privacy being breached by another person who has
access to this information within an IS. To iterate this, quoting from the Stanford Encyclopedia of
Philosophy: In most countries of the world, the information revolution has altered many aspects of

However, there are ethical and legal areas that are lacking and enforcing of regulations and laws is
still proving to be a challenge. The one specific area I feel this way about is that of safety. Many
Information Systems that exist have more than once been a victim to an attempted or successful
hacking attempt and this usually leads to theft of data, identity and money in the case of financial
Information Systems. Information System security is an area that needs to be improved. This can be
iterated by the following quote from useoftechnology.com: With tools like the internet, hackers have
found it very easy to hack into any computer or system as long as it is connected on internet.
Hackers can easily use an IP (Internet Protocol) address to access a user s computer and collect
data for selfish reasons. (useoftechnology.com)
One of the largest breaches occurred at Yahoo in 2015 and 2016 which compromised over 1
billion user s personal information including myself. It was recently released that every single
customer account was hacked which equated to over 3 billion accounts including email, Tumblr,
Fantasy, and Flickr. The breach included account holders names, email addresses and passwords.

The Effects Of Alcohol Abuse On The Body
Alcohol abuse can also cause short term effects to the body. Although there are many different
short term effects, the most common happens to be a hangover which is a group of symptoms
experienced by a person after a heavy consumption of alcohol (Alcoholic 1). Symptoms of a
hangover often consist of nausea, fatigue, thirst, headache, diarrhea, and sensitivity to light and
noise. The severity of a hangoverdepends on several factors; these factors include the amount of
alcoholconsumed, the level of hydration in the body at the time of alcohol consumption, and
disease. Although hangovers are the most common short term effect, blackouts are also a short term
result of alcohol abuse. Consuming large amounts of alcohol can lead to temporary amnesia
where the person is unable to recall events that occurred after he or she began drinking.
Unfortunately, blackouts can lead to serious repercussions, especially if the person is engaged in
sexual activity during that time. Blackouts are much more common among social drinkers than
previously assumed and should be viewed as a potential consequence of acute intoxication
regardless of age (National 1). Drinkers who experience blackouts typically drink too much and
too quickly, which causes their blood alcohol levels to rise very rapidly. Typically, college
students are at risk for experiencing a blackout, as an alarming number of college students engage
in binge drinking. Even though these short term effects do not seem as bad as the

Essay The Greek Economy
The Greek economy was a result of the combination of slaves, citizens and Metics. The Metic,
however, was the driving and most important force behind the Greek economy. The slave was
used only when seen fit. The citizen saw work as below the dignity of a free man. He left to
others the labors that he was unwilling to perform himself. Firstly, it must be noted that any
prejudice against manual labor among the Greeks was of comparatively late origin. Certainly, in
the Homeric age, to labor with one s hands was no disgrace. The prowess of Odysseus comes to
mind, who was a mighty worker and built his own house and even his own bedstead. (Hom.
Od.13, 31 34) There was no prejudice against manual labor in the time of Solon either, who decreed

This new found standing gave the citizen the view that he was above manual labor. The plunder
gained from wars, and after the founding of the Delian League, the riches gained set up new
standards of values and conduct. With the increased wealth, fortunes were made overnight. The
citizen enjoyed himself more and saw those who had to work for a living with contempt. Also,
with the increased affluence, citizens were able to pay the Metic to carry out trade. Herodotus
remarked upon this as something quite new, that the citizens practice no trade and only war,
which is their hereditary calling. Now, whether this separation, like other customs has come to
Greece from Egypt I cannot exactly judge. I know that in Thrace and Scythia and Persia and
Lydia and nearly all foreign countries those who learn trades and their descendants are held in
less esteem than the rest of the people, and those who have nothing to do with artisan s work,
especially men who are free to practice war, are highly honored. (Herod. 2, 166 167) This is a
testament that the Greek citizen had shifted away from work and had elevated himself upon a
pedestal. Thus creating a demand for highly skilled laborers, which was filled by the Metics.
Aristotle and Plato simply would not allow or accept that a man, whose whole energies were
devoted to making a living, could possibly at the same time fulfill his duties as a citizen

Phosphomannose isomerase is a key enzyme for mannose metabolism converts mannose 6
phosphate into fructose 6 phosphate, which enters the glycolytic pathway after isomerization to
fructose 6 phosphate, thus allows mannose to become a sole carbon source.
The PMI enzyme is widespread in nature, occur in bacteria, yeast, and mammals (including
humans), but there are only a few plant species like soybeans and several other legumes where the
enzyme presence has been reported (Lee and Matheson, 1984). However, PMI expression in plants
is quite variable. While Man is utterly toxic to the growth of plants such as corn and wheat (Wright
et al., 2001), measured PMI activity in Nicotiana tabacum suspension cells is relatively low which
bring about slow metabolism of Man. These levels seem likely to be representative of tobacco in
general, being similar to levels found in tobacco leaves (Barb et al., 2003). The PMI/mannose
selection system has been successfully used for the regeneration of transgenic plants from
several important crops such as sugar beet (Joersbo et al.,1998), cassava (Zhang and Puonti Kaerlas

I believe in a Democracy instead of Aristocracy government. An aristocracy only gives power to a
certain group of people. However, the way I see it is that everyone should be equal and have a say
in the governments decisions. Although, I do believe that the states as a whole should have more
power and unity than the central government alone. Having a strict interpretation on the
Constitution is one of my beliefs due to the fact that if people do something that is not on the
Constitution, they might think that it is okay to bend the rules. Alexander Hamilton thought that it
would be a good idea to have a National Bank because it helped with the governments deposits.
However, I thought that this was very unconstitutional even though the bank was later established.
Another plan that Alexander Hamilton had was having the Protective Tariff. This was used to tax
imported goods so they could raise money for government and protect U.S. manufacturers. Despite

Origins of American Slavery

The Origins of Slavery in America
The institution of slavery is a black mark on the history of America. The atrocities that were
allowed to occur for hundreds of year are revolting to think about. History books and classes often
detail the horrors of slavery, and the effects it had on our agricultural economy. However, they do
not really explain why the practice of slavery was allowed to flourish in the colonies. They just
present the facts of its occurrence. They do not consider the mindset of the people who thought it
was justifiable to enslave a specific race. This paper seeks to answer this question using evidence
from the studies of Degler, the Handlins, and Morgan. Slavery was not brought into ... Show more

The blacks regardless of age or gender were always priced higher than their white counterparts,
and the lengths of terms were absent. Their value was higher because their service was for life,
explaining the absence of the length of term (Degler). Undoubtedly there are many more cases of
blacks being treated as slaves and inferiors than there are of whites, even though there was a
plethora of white servants. However, the presence of a large number of free Africans or those with
defined terms of services shows us that the discrimination of blacks cannot be the sole cause of
slavery. While slavery had definitely begun, it was not uniform or consistent by any means. Had
there not been another factor involved, it is not unfathomable that different, albeit poorly treated,
classes of Africans would have formed. Continuing on the last point, were it not for specific
economic conditions, slavery would not have evolved into the enterprise that it did. The Handlins
argue that blacks were just as unfree as the whites who were unfree were. They claim that economic
circumstance was the reason that blacks were enslaved. Due to the tobacco revolution the planters

The General Assembly Of The United Nations
History of the committee
The General Assembly is one of six of the main organs of the United Nations. It was officially
established in 1945 by Chapter IV of the Charter of the United Nations, which guaranteed that all
member nations are guaranteed at least one representative in the General Assembly. The Charter
established that the purpose of the General Assembly was to find solutions to potential threats to
international peace and security and other issues within the scope of the Charter. It also gave the
General Assembly responsibility for appointing non permanent members to the Security Council
and overseeing the United Nations budget.1 In order to fulfill this mission, the General Assembly
today passes resolutions that recommend actions that the international community should take in
order to address a particular pressing problem. Although the resolutions passed by the General
Assembly are not legally binding, they still have clout because they represent international
consensus decisions and are often seen as the international moral norm.
Since its creation, the General Assembly has successfully passed various resolutions in order to
fulfill its goals as outlined by the United Nations Charter. Soon after its establishment, it adopted its
first resolution on 24 January 1946; much like the resolutions that this committee may seek to draft
at this conference, the General Assembly s first resolution sought to deal with issues surrounding
the safe use of atomic energy and

A poet has to make poem by making a statement or teaching a lesson but it has to be important
enough to affect the whole nation like the blacksmith who effects the village he lives in.

Revolutionary War. For example in Kavanagh, Longfellow told his father through a poem he
wanted to be a poet not a lawyer. Kavanagh is the story of a country romance. Besides a character
named Kavanagh, among its characters is a school teacher named Mr. Churchill, who has always
planned to write a romance, but whose procrastination never allows him to start, until late in life he
resigns himself to his destiny. Longfellow also used the novel to argue against the view, in the book
propounded by a character based on Cornelius Mathews, that American literature must be entirely
devoid of European influences and be exclusively national. Instead, Longfellow felt that American
literature could and should be universalist, with its unique North American

Huichol Tribe Religion
In many cultures around the world, plants have a strong spiritual symbolism. The Huichol tribe
of Mexico, for example, a plant called peyote has symbolic significance, as it produces spiritual
experiences which allegedly allow its users to connect with their Gods and ancestors. Mescaline,
the active ingredient in peyote, creates vivid dreamscapes and hallucinations. For the Huichol
people, finding peyote is a laborious and sacred task so each year, they go on a pilgrimage to
Wirikuta, also known as the Path of Freedom. During this pilgrimage, which occurs during the
drought season after the maize harvest, the Huichol people undergo spiritual rituals and also stop at
various religious sites along the way. Once they reach Wirikuta, the Huichol travelers gather peyote.
Some are used immediately and the rest is brought back for the tribe. The Huichols believe they are

Summary Of The Passionate Shepherd To His Love

On to the third stanza of The Passionate Shepherd to His Love , Marlowe highly speaks of how he
is going to spoil his love with materialistic offers and gifts, the roses on the bed, which will be
anointed by the sweet smelling fragrances. The outfit Marlowe will give to his love will be
gifted and will have been made from the wool and be of the most exquisite wool. It will also be
decorated with leaves and will have shoes that have been covered with golden buckles, as well as

wealth and beauty to his love by making her beautiful things. But Nymph on his poem expresses his

tetraphenylporphyrinatocobalt(II) showed good catalytic activity towards oxidation of 3,5 di tert
butylcatechol to 3,5 di tert butyl benzoquinone by dioxygen in dimethylformamide. The oxidation
reaction was followed by measuring dioxygen uptake. The rate constant of oxidation reaction
showed a linear dependence on catalyst concentration and saturation kinetics in both 3,5 di tert
butylcatechol concentration and dioxygen pressure. The kinetic parameters have been determined
using Michaelis Menten approach. A mechanism has been suggested for the oxidation reaction.

Public Parks And National Parks
Protected public lands, including national parks, cover a growing 12% of the world s land and a
gradually rising amount of marine areas (Dudley, et al. 87). Today, in the United States (U.S.)
alone, 59 national parks compromise the country s National Parks System, which was sanctioned
by Congress and is managed by National Parks Service (NPS), an agency of the U.S. Department
of the Interior. The parks have become a controversial topic in recent legislation because some
representatives are lobbying for change in ownership and management of the parks to create more
economic return. Although the parks confer multiple benefits and costs on the U.S, perhaps the
most contentious area of debate concerns the cost benefit dichotomy of the parks collective
economic value.
While some experts argue that the taxes required to maintain national parks are burdensome, or that
management is often ineffective in preserving the parks economic benefit, others believe that their
overall benefit to local communities and the national economy is noteworthy. These debates are
often divided along party lines, with conservatives denouncing the parks costs, especially in
restricting individual economic prospects, and liberals urging the federal preservation of the land
for its values. Furthermore, solutions to achieve effective governance of public lands, or commons,
such as those proposed in the stimulus source The Struggle to Govern the Commons, can be
implemented in order to preclude the

A Bar At The Folies Bergere Essay
A Bar at the Folies BergГЁre was one Manet s last pieces and was part of the avant garde and
Impressionists movement into modernism. He was inspired by Gustave Courbet s realism and
how he approached modernism with the working class like his piece The Stone Breakers. He
also wanted to rise to a challenge from an argument made in Charles Baudelaire s essay The
Painter of Modern Life to be painters of contemporary manners . . . using both modern subjects
and new approaches to seeing and representing the visual world. He often painted controversial
pieces like Le DГ©jeuner Sur L Herbe (The Luncheon on the Grass) and Olympia to shock the
bourgeoisiewith subject matters that were considered immoral to the art world showing the reality
of society during that time. While painting this, he was incredibly ill with syphilis thus A Bar at
the Folies BergГЁre was his last major piece to be completed and hung in the Salon.
Just like his major pieces, he is also demonstrating modernism by having a working barmaid at
the Folies BergГЁre as the focal point of the piece (Fig. 1). Unlike his piece Olympia, Manet
painted the barmaid with softer strokes instead of intense lining of the body, yet she still has that
pale tone with some pinkness in her cheeks. While the Folies BergГЁre was a place of
entertainment, her gaze is rather a look of boredom or aloofness perhaps to show that she is not
fully part of the bourgeoisie. Because her dress, it makes her class ambiguous and possibly a

Essay On Apology By Plato
The Apology by Plato provides a deep credible account of Socrates defending of himself against
the accusation of corrupting the young before the Athenian Council. Within the text, the words of
Socrates are delivered as they are remembered by Plato. It is important to note that previously
Plato was both a student and a disciple of Socrates, therefore his rendition of the trial could have
been considerably biased towards the man he viewed as a tremendous hero. Ultimately, Platos
account describes what he holds to be true about his hero, even though Socrates teachings are
somewhat idealized by his pupil. There also may be a possibility that Socrates defense of himself
may be stronger than the argument that is originally perceived and understood.
The dialog consists of a number of different parts. Socrates begins with an introductory statement
which deals with his manner of speaking: One of the many lies they told, one in particular

Thirty Years War
Background A thorough understanding of the Thirty Years War is essential in discussing the effects
of the Peace of Westphalia. Religion dominated authority in Europe in the 16th century, namely
Catholicism. However, dissatisfaction grew as the Protestant Reformation gained more followers,
resulting in tension and divisions throughout the Holy Roman Empire. Weakened imperial power
and unrest between ruler and subjects began as early as 1555. Although the Thirty Years War broke
out based on religious conflicts, the motives of the war became mainly of political supremacy as
fighting continued on a continental scale in the latter years. It pitted Protestant against Catholic, the
Holy Roman Empire against France, the German princes and princelings

Paul Conroy Cinematography
In film, cinematography, or the making of a motion picture film, is a major key to creating the
right movie. It has a major influence on the audience s experience while watching the film, from
making the audience feel certain emotions to changing the whole genre of a film. Cinematography
has many different effects on the feel of a movie, in which it can make or break it. During Buried,
a filmdirected by Rodrigo Cortes, the audience witnesses many scenes in which the main character
has lost hope or given up on trying to get out of the horrible situation he is in. Buried uses
different types of cinematography like close ups, overhead shots, and longshots to evoke a sense of
lost hope.
In one scene the audience sees that Paul Conroy, our main character, begins to make progress
when he goes through a phone that was left in the box with him. He calls one of the numbers
thinking that it could connect him to people that may help him. During Paul s conversation with
his captures the audience sees a close up of his face, helping to show the anxiety and panic that

What Are Cell Surface Carbohydrates
Cell surface carbohydrates are carbohydrate chains that are bonded to lipids and proteins that are
within the phospholipid bilayer of a cell. These are known as glycolipids and glycoproteins; they
have carbohydrate chains protruding from them out of the cell membrane surface. They are the first
molecules to be encountered and recognized by other cells, so they are used to identify the cell.
Carbohydrates are used as the ligand component of glycoconjugates (glycoproteins and glycolipids)
and their structure varies depending on the structure of the molecule it binds to, ranging from small
saccharide units to very large polysaccharide chains. Although the carbohydrate chains are generally
oligosaccharides and can either be straight or branched. Cell surface carbohydrates coat the exterior
surfaces of cell membranes and extend from the phospholipid bilayer into the aqueous environment
outside the cell presenting information rich binding sites and have the potential to carry necessary
information to act as markers for cellular recognition. The anomeric carbon of the carbohydrate
binds to the hydroxyl group present on the lipid or proteinthrough a covalent bond referred to as a
glycosidic bond. The carbohydrate is hydrophilic and contains polar groups that enable the
molecule to be soluble as it forms hydrogen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interactions can occur between glycoconjugates in the same cell as well as trans interactions
between two different cell membranes. The carbohydrate will bind to a specific complementary

important biological functions. The major functions of these cell surface markers are cell signalling

Voltage Instability, Voltage And Instability
Abstract Voltage instability is one of the major power system problems which have appeared since
the existence of the power systems. This paper investigates the performance of Recurrent Neural
Networks (RNN) in voltage instability early prediction. Voltage instability early detection is
necessary for avoiding voltage collapse which can lead to power system fast breakdown. In this
research, the bus voltage phase is considered as the main factor of power system voltage instability
early detection. Voltage instability leads to a considerable change in the difference between the
consecutive buses voltage angles. A recurrent neural network trained with Particle Swarm
Optimization(PSO) is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is examined on 14 bus and 30
bus IEEE standard systems. These systems are simulated using MATLAB/Power System Toolbox
program. The performance of the proposed method is compared with Back propagation (BP)
training algorithm.

I.INTRODUCTION
Voltage instability problems play a great role in power systems planning and operation. Nowadays,
power systems are being performed closer to their steadiness limits due to economic and
environmental constraints. Preserving a fixed and secure operation of the power system is hence a
very vital and challenging issue.

Martin Luther, A Christian Theologian And Augustinian Monk
Gustavo Huangal
October 8, 2014
Bible 2nd Assessment
Martin Luther Martin Luther, a Christian theologian and Augustinian monk has taught and inspired
the Protestant Reformation. His translation of the Bible has helped to develop the correct version
of the German language. Martin Luther was a great man. Martin Luther was born on the 10th of
November, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany. Hans and Margaretha Luder were his parents. In 1501,
he had been enrolled in the University of Erfurt at the age of seventeen. But all of that changed
during a harsh thunderstorm where a lightning bolt struck near him on his way back to school.
With terror he yelled these words, Help St. Anne! I ll become a monk! Since then, he dropped out
of law school and started attending monastery there. He would devote himself only to things like
fasts, long hour prayers, and constant confessions. He tried a lot to change this, but the more he
tried to do this for God, it always seemed that he became more aware of his sinfulness. Martin
Luther eventually ended up being good with God personally when his teacher, Johann von Staupitz,
ordered that Luther needed more work to distract him from all his thoughts. So then Luther was
ordained to the priesthood. So in the year of 1508, Martin Luther started to teach theology at the
University of Wittenberg. The difficult time of study for academic degrees and preparation for the
hard lectures drove Martin Luther to study the Scriptures very deep. Luther engaged

Ukraine And The Russian Empire
Ukraine used to be known as Kievan Rus before renaming it in the 16th century. During the 9th
century, Kiev was the central focus politically and culturally in Eastern Europe. Keivan Rus
maximized it s intake of power in the 10th century due to the Mongol conquest in 1240, but not
before adopting Byzantine Christianity. Between the 13th and the 16th century, Kiev was
significantly influenced by Poland and Western Europe. In 1596, the negotiation of the Union of
Brest Litovsk dismembered the Ukrainians into Catholic faithful and Orthodox. When Ukraine had
asked for protection against Poland from the czar of Muscovy in 1654, the agreement, it gave the
interpretation to Moscow that it was an suggestion to take over Kiev, as a result absorbing into the
Russian Empire. In the 19th century, the region was rather largely agricultural, with few cities
centralized for learning and trade. The region was under the predominance of the Austro Hungarian
Empire on the far end of the west and the Russian Empire abroad. With a lack of self sufficiency,
many Ukrainian scholars and inspired writers were emboldened by Europe s cultivation. One of
those intellectual individuals, Taras Shevchenko, who s still known as a national hero in Ukraine
today, introduced the sophistication of the Ukrainian language and civilization to help revive
Ukraine s cultural traditions and reestablish the Ukrainian state. The unwieldy and incognizant
European transition of western Ukrainians had pervasive

his dad sought after work. When they at long last settled in Columbia, Missouri, in 1933, Walton

The Major Benefits Of The Education Of Music
Music plays an important role in our world, as the global dictionary of theology says, Music is a
part of everyday life. From heavy beats pounding in cars, to advertising jingles on radio (King), or
as Ruth Jorgensen says, music was a social phenomenon and examined some of the ways in which
groups form around particular beliefs and practices (Jorgensen). Musichas benefited the world in
many ways all throughout history, from the expression of love and devotion towards god in a
mass to the expressionism and individuality of jazz during the New Negro movement these are just
a few of the many ways music has impacted our world greatly. Carlos R. Abril, and Brent M. Gault
wrote in their journal research that some of the major benefits of the education of music consist of
the transmission of cultural ideas and beliefs, the development of a sensitivity to and appreciation
for the arts, and the opportunity to foster creativity, teamwork, and cooperation through
participation in music (Abril and Gault). It is our responsibility to see how music has improved us
as humans and it is our responsibility to raise our future generation with the understanding, love,
and creativity that comes with the teaching of music.
As Abril and Gault have said, one of the many benefits of musical education is the transmission of
cultural ideas (Abril and Gault). What they are pointing out is that through the education and
exposure of the culturally diverse music, we subject our children in the

Self Deprivation In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
Self Deprivation Women all over the world must follow society s expectations. In fact, in Saudi
Arabia, women could not drive until late September of this year! Similarly, in Sylvia Plath s The
Bell Jar, societal pressures push, the protagonist, Esther Greenwood to act in a particular way.
Esther grows up in a small town and goes to New York for an internship for journalism. Through
this opportunity she learns that she must act like an ideal woman of the time. Yet, she enjoys
things that are out of the normality. This causes her to lose who she is and who she wants to
become. In The Bell Jar, Plath reveals that strict women s standards may cause a loss of self. In
the novel, women are upheld to a typical standard of how to act in public. For example, in the
past and even in the twenty first century all over the world; women must dress a certain way.
Using imagery Sylvia Plath describes how women have to look and act in society. Women ...had
to wear hats and stockings and gloves to class (Plath 4). The author continues to say that the
ladies who were out of school got jobs as secretaries. These secretaries are wandering around New
York looking to marry to a man with money. The author illustrates how women have to dress and
act a specific way which Esther did not conform with. She wanted to be a successful writer with or
without a husband. The strict standards women obliged to leads to Esther losing her true identity.
Society pressures women to act in a specific way.

Statement of Purpose Essay
Ever since I could remember there has always been an inclination towards science. The desire to
understand how things worked has always intrigued me. Set on the inclination I always explored
the basic application of science i.e. building a lemon battery to designing a simple pulley lift at
science fairs at school. Thus making Production Engineeringa good option. It provides a strong
engineering foundation and also educates on the management of an industry. This is the very
reason I was able to decide that I wanted a career in this field. With my mother being a teacher the
values of education have been inculcated into me from a very young age. I was always given a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Reverse Sequence Syphilis...
Introduction
The traditional algorithm for syphilis screening has involved use of a manual non treponemal test
(e.g. rapid plasma reagin, RPR) followed by confirmation with a treponemal test (e.g. Treponema
pallidum particle agglutination, TP PA). Non treponemal tests are inexpensive, but require
significant hands on time by laboratory personnel and produce subjective results. High volume
laboratories are increasingly using a reverse sequence algorithm, using partially or fully automated
treponemal tests (e.g. enzyme immunoassay EIA, chemiluminescene immunoassay CIA, multibead
immunoassay MBIA), followed by a non treponemal test (e.g. RPR, VDRL) if reactive (1).
Potential advantages of the reverse sequence algorithm include reduced labor ... Show more content

Our objective was to determine signal strength cutoffs associated with 98%, 99%, and 100%
reactive confirmatory testing (TP PA or fluorescent treponemal antibody absorbed test, FTA ABS).
For the four automated immunoassays we also attempted to establish a signal strength cutoff
associated with a consensus of at least 4/7 reactive treponemal tests (the index test plus at least 3
others). The findings from this study will inform laboratory guidelines on use of confirmatory
treponemal testing for patients with initially discordant serology.
Results
Among 1995 specimens tested, 907 (45%) were categorized as true positives and 1087(54%) as
true negatives using a consensus of the test panel as the gold standard (see Materials and Methods
for case definitions). Table 1 includes results for positive agreement, negative agreement and
Kappa s statistics for the seven assays. Positive agreement was lowest for FTA ABS (86.1%, 83.7
88.2%) and highest for Centaur EIA (99.7%, 99.0 99.9%). Positive agreement

Great Philosophers
For this assignment, I chose the following three ethical philosophers: Confucius, Immanuel Kant,
and Paulo Freire. Each of these ethicists differs in the way they resolved ethical dilemmas and the
assignment will focus on how each ethicists would respond to a certain situation. Confucius
reasoning is that all humanare good; however, when face with an ethical dilemma, there is an
inequality between what is good and bad. I believe that the response from Confucius it would not
be acceptable to steal food to feed a starving child. The reason why I believe this is because
Confucius was a virtueethicist and believed in loyalty, which is respect for the law and stealing, is
not showing respect for the law (Great Philosophers, n.d.). I believe that Confucius would go to the
store and ask the store manager and tell him the situation about starving child. One of Confucius
central virtues is honest, which is respect for the truth. Telling the store manager the truth is not
only respecting the store but also respecting you (Great Philosophers, n.d.).... Show more content on

The next ethicist is Kant; whose reasoning I believe is that everything that is was illegal and
morally wrong is unacceptable. If we look at the situation regarding the stealing of food for a
starving child, I believe that Kant would response favorable to someone stealing food for a starving
child. According to Kantian ethics, we have a perfect to others not to steal; however, we also have
imperfect duty to assists others in need (Kantian Ethic, n.d.). Kantian Ethics is also based on the
face that a person is good or bad and what is their motivation of their actions and not the goodness
of their action (Kantian Ethics,

Cuckoo s Nest Symbolism
One Flew over the Cuckoo s NestAngus Dally Short Extended Questions 5. What does the Fog
Machine symbolise for Bromden and for Kesey? Conformity Medicated state Anonymity
Mechanical influence of the combine Chief Bromden believes that Nurse Ratched is able to
turn on a fog machine that fills the whole ward with fog, obscuring his vision. Because of his
schizophrenia, this fog is clearly shown to be a hallucination, but it carries great symbolic
meaning. The fog machines in the ward are reminiscent of the Chief s time in the army, where
fog machines were used to obscure the airfields. He says that while the fog machines were
operating, you couldn t see nothing but white (p 131). The fog symbolises the anonymity that
results from conforming to the rules of the ward, and the Chief uses this anonymity to protect
himself from the punishments of Nurse Ratched. It also symbolises when he loses grip of
reality, either as a result of his medication or out of fear. The rules and regulations of the ward
and society, symbolised in part by the fog, are shown to be similar to castration, and the Chief
realises this, saying that when he was immersed in the fog, he felt like from the waist down, you

Control in this ward extends to even the smallest things, such as the quota of cigarettes given to
patients, and the rigidity of the patient s daily schedule. Any displays of individuality and self
expression are severely punished, ratcheting patients into conformity and submission to the Nurse
s absolute power. This conformity is symbolised by the fog that the Chief tries to retreat into,
which no matter how bad it is, you can slip back in it and be safe (p

Social Anxiety And Social Depression
Social anxiety is condition that has been described since the days of Hippocrates. Hippocrates
described an individual who would avoid social outings due to being timid, bashful, and fear of
being misused, disgraced, make a fool of himself, or being sick and believes he is constantly being
watched. Will the man who suffers from social anxietyreact differently to mistakes based on social
context? A study by Barker, Troller Renfree, Pine, Fox in 2015 attempted to test that. Baker et al.
tried to measure the error related negativity, an event potential that occurs 50 ms after the faulty
response. The purpose of the study was to see if there is a relationship between the magnitude of
the ERN and social anxiety.
Barker et al. used two groups of individuals. The first group was a group that hardly exhibit social
anxiety and the second group was a group that exhibited high levels of social anxiety. The first
group has 10 males and 11 females and the second group had 11 males and 11 females. The
individuals were selected by using the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale. Participants in the study
also completed the Penn State Worry Questionnaire and the Beck Depression Inventory. The reason
why Barker et al. selected the PSWQ is because it has shown high internal reliability in clinical and
normative populations and has demonstrated the ability to be able to distinguish between the
constructs of worry, anxiety, and depression. The BDI was selected because it has shown the ability

The Classical Hollywood Western Par Excellence
1A)In Matthew Bernstein s essay, The Classical Hollywood Western Par Excellence, he states
that while Stagecoach (John Ford, 1939) appears to glorify American history, particularly its
expansion westward at the expense of Native Americans (299) it also develops an acute social
observation of life on the Frontier and it challenges elements of the myth constructed around
this history (316). The film Stagecoach depicts not only the struggles faced by pioneers
traveling through Indian territory, but the belief among people during this time period that
anyone can go to the West to get a fresh start and live a completely new life without social
prejudice. However, Stagecoach proves this myth to be false for various reasons. One example
of this would be when Mr. Hatfield offers Mrs. Mallory water from the water canteen on the
stagecoach. Once she accepts his offer, Mr. Hatfield pours it into a silver cup for her and does
not offer anyone else in the stage coach water. Ringo then makes a comment to Mr. Hatfield that
he should give the other lady in the stagecoach, Dallas, water as well. However, Dallas has a
reputation of being a prostitute. So, Mr. Hatfield decides to give her some water but refuses to
lend her the silver cup to drink out of, he makes her drink it out of the canteen instead. This
example proves that these people were not getting a fresh start and only the upper class can share
such luxuries as a silver cup with only other upper class people, social

A Research Study On Global Integration
To start off, the first thing that comes to mind is to define what global integration is. I guess you
can say it is another way of saying free trade throughout the world. Throughout my research I
found that there was not any true definition of global integration. So to define global integration
there is really only one way. Global is defined as of or relation to the whole world and integration
is the action or process of integrating. To put the words together global integration is defined as
the action or process of integrating to the whole world. That is the definition I came up with.
Now in my research I found a definition that was suitable and it is the process by which a
company combines different activities around the world so that they operate using the same
methods. Now that there are different definitions that we can use, there are a couple of things that
I found interesting about global integration. In this paper I will be discussing four things about
global integration. These four items are the history, advantages, disadvantages, and just my opinion
of if global integration is either good or bad. Hopefully throughout this paper you will learn many
things that you did not know about global integration. The history of global integration goes back
many years. How did people come up with this form of integrating? Who invented the term? Who
was the first person to use this in the world? These are just some of the questions that are asked
when you start

  • 2. Hardball Summary Chris Matthew s Hardball consists of four different parts containing different themes and policies on how the political world is run. All four parts: Alliances, Enemies, Deals, and Reputations contain personal anecdotes, historical context of Presidents careers, and rules Matthew s has formed throughout political experience. The beginning of each chapter starts off with a quote that foreshadows the subject of each chapter. Although Matthews does establish important rules to follow as a politician, I disagree with some of his points even though I am a democrat like him. Part One, Alliances, starts off with the importance of one on one relationships. The sole purpose of these one on one relationships, which in political terminology is known as retail politics can provide a personal and political awareness for the other individual s concerns. This triggers a chance for the one who is performing the retail action the opportunity to network. Lyndon B. Johnson created the Johnson... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, I agree that networking is an important aspect to get ahead in life. Many people I ve met have emphasized that in order to be successful, one must network. I m glad to know that Matthews took the risk of knocking on many top politicians doors in order to seek job opportunities, and I m also glad that he took a lesson in starting from a smaller position than just sprinting to the top. A lot of people are desperate for a reward, but what they don t realize is that it takes years to get to that destination. I m satisfied with the majority of the content in this chapter; however, I would never waste my time trying to win the support of another politician in order for me to sympathize with a preoccupation I do not care for at ... From a nearly home owner s perspective, we looked at everything anew. Marsciano was going to be our home town in Italy, where we would shop, attend community events, the weekly market, dine in restaurants and make new friends. As we did with Johannes, we parked the car near the community elevator and took the lift up to the center of town. We nodded our heads to the locals and bid them Bouna giornata; a Good Day when our eyes met in passing. We window shopped at the boutiques on the Corso Umberto, surprised by the high quality merchandise for sale in such a humble village. Soon, we saw Luisa... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We vowed to take Italian lessons as soon as we returned to California. Vince was bound and determined to attend the Deed Signing ceremony in Perugia in May which meant that he would sign on my behalf so that I could accumulate my vacation time off from work for the actual Moving In and Setting Up House in the Fall. I asked Vince to paint each room before and acquire a bed, a table and some chairs during his visit in May so that when I arrived in September we had a place to sleep and the apartment was spic and span clean. It was already dark and raining gently when we arrived at the front door of B B Garibaldi in the early evening. Vince inserted the key into the front door lock, when much to his surprise, he felt the key snap in two as he turned it to unlock the door, leaving the stem in the keyhole. Oh great! Now what do we do? Vince said as he pulled the remaining part of the key out of the lock and looked at it bewildered in his hand. I don t know I answered. David emphatically asked us not to ring the doorbell because his grandmother is always sleeping. Let s try knocking on the door or calling his name. I believe that s his balcony. • 4. Snow Imagery in “Desert Places” and “Stopping by Woods on... Robert Frost (1874 1963). Robert Frost was the most widely admired and highly honoured American poet of the 20th century (Eiermann). Robert Frost was raised in rural New England where he grew a fond love for the outdoors and nature (Merriman). His love with nature elements has probably overwhelmed him so much that it has been reflected upon in many of his poems such as The Tuft of Flowers, Reluctance, and Birches. One of the nature imageries that have been used frequently by Robert Frostis the snow imagery. Although the snow imagery appears in many other poems by Frost we will be dealing with the poems Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. Even though Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also because of the mysteriousness of the woods being lovely, dark, and deep (Frost, Stopping., line 13) that makes the speaker mesmerized. The snow in this poem gave the speaker calmness by the woods and gives the poem the mood of welcome and mysteriousness whereas in Desert Places the snow establishes the mood of loneliness and emptiness. Therefore, if the snow imagery made the mood of the poems different, then evidently the snow imagery will make the themes of the two poems different as well. From the different manipulations of the snow imagery on the moods in Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening it made their themes distinctly different from each other. The snow that surrounded the speaker in Desert Places made the field look like an open, empty, lonely place. It is from the surroundings that the speaker creates his own loneliness. From this, it is clear that the speaker s loneliness inside himself/ herself overwhelms them so much that it causes their outlook to be of only loneliness. So in Desert Places the theme is that the loneliness that is created from within of the speaker causes him/her to realize or see the loneliness that is inside them and also the loneliness that surrounds them, which is nature. • 5. Teaching Styles Within The Classroom Teaching Physical Education today is more intricate than most people might think it is or was years ago. Classrooms today include students of a very large spectrum. This can include students who learn visually, auditory, by being hands on or even students who participate in adaptive classrooms. Basically, every student in any classroom seems to learn slightly differently than their classmate these days. Too many teachers are avoiding including multiple teaching styles in their classrooms due to the potential increase in effort and preparation that follows, but it is crucial that Physical Educators are aware of the importance of teaching styles in the classroom. A teacher who can properly incorporate multiple teaching styles into their classrooms is an example of a successful and effective teacher. Students in today s physical educationclassrooms vary greatly among great levels. In order for teachers to effectively teach every single one of their students, they need to incorporate different teaching styles into their daily routine. One example of a teaching style is the direct teaching style. The direct teaching style is the most commonly used teaching style in Physical Education classrooms, so it can also be considered the most effective in a normal classroom setting. Direct teaching, or otherwise known as Command style teaching is self explanatory in the fact that it the most command like style. Customers are more interested on the brand identity with much preference on the emergent ones. They tend to be loyal to price elasticity and hence companies are left to compete in cutting costs. Hence the term Ghetto spread throughout Italy, where the Jewish quarters, compulsorily established in subsequent years, became known officially by this name, (Roth. 273.) Jews of Italian and German origin both moved into this ghetto. The Germans came to Venice to seek refuge from of persecution in their former communities, while the Italians came from Rome and from the South, where they faced anti Semitism. Information System security is an area that needs to be improved. • 15. The Effects Of Alcohol Abuse On The Body Alcohol abuse can also cause short term effects to the body. Although there are many different short term effects, the most common happens to be a hangover which is a group of symptoms experienced by a person after a heavy consumption of alcohol (Alcoholic 1). Symptoms of a hangover often consist of nausea, fatigue, thirst, headache, diarrhea, and sensitivity to light and noise. The severity of a hangoverdepends on several factors; these factors include the amount of alcoholconsumed, the level of hydration in the body at the time of alcohol consumption, and disease. Although hangovers are the most common short term effect, blackouts are also a short term result of alcohol abuse. Consuming large amounts of alcohol can lead to temporary amnesia where the person is unable to recall events that occurred after he or she began drinking. Unfortunately, blackouts can lead to serious repercussions, especially if the person is engaged in sexual activity during that time. Blackouts are much more common among social drinkers than previously assumed and should be viewed as a potential consequence of acute intoxication regardless of age (National 1). Drinkers who experience blackouts typically drink too much and too quickly, which causes their blood alcohol levels to rise very rapidly. Typically, college students are at risk for experiencing a blackout, as an alarming number of college students engage in binge drinking. The Metic, however, was the driving and most important force behind the Greek economy. The slave was used only when seen fit. The citizen saw work as below the dignity of a free man. He left to others the labors that he was unwilling to perform himself. Firstly, it must be noted that any prejudice against manual labor among the Greeks was of comparatively late origin. Certainly, in the Homeric age, to labor with one s hands was no disgrace. The prowess of Odysseus comes to mind, who was a mighty worker and built his own house and even his own bedstead. (Hom. This new found standing gave the citizen the view that he was above manual labor. The plunder gained from wars, and after the founding of the Delian League, the riches gained set up new standards of values and conduct. With the increased wealth, fortunes were made overnight. The citizen enjoyed himself more and saw those who had to work for a living with contempt. Also, with the increased affluence, citizens were able to pay the Metic to carry out trade. Herodotus remarked upon this as something quite new, that the citizens practice no trade and only war, which is their hereditary calling. Now, whether this separation, like other customs has come to Greece from Egypt I cannot exactly judge. I know that in Thrace and Scythia and Persia and Lydia and nearly all foreign countries those who learn trades and their descendants are held in less esteem than the rest of the people, and those who have nothing to do with artisan s work, especially men who are free to practice war, are highly honored. (Herod. 2, 166 167) This is a testament that the Greek citizen had shifted away from work and had elevated himself upon a pedestal. Thus creating a demand for highly skilled laborers, which was filled by the Metics. Transgenic plants detection in most crop species in order to minimize regeneration of non transformed tissues after transformation requires the use of selectable marker genes and selective agents. The commonly used selectable markers in plant transformation systems are genes conferring resistance to toxic compounds such as herbicides or antibiotics. The negative selectable marker genes routinely used in Nicotianatabacum transformation are genes that confer resistance to the antibiotic kanamycin. However, the presence of these genes or the derived proteins are undesirable in crop plants grown in the field, because of the public concern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Phosphomannose isomerase is a key enzyme for mannose metabolism converts mannose 6 phosphate into fructose 6 phosphate, which enters the glycolytic pathway after isomerization to fructose 6 phosphate, thus allows mannose to become a sole carbon source. The PMI enzyme is widespread in nature, occur in bacteria, yeast, and mammals (including humans), but there are only a few plant species like soybeans and several other legumes where the enzyme presence has been reported (Lee and Matheson, 1984). However, PMI expression in plants is quite variable. While Man is utterly toxic to the growth of plants such as corn and wheat (Wright et al., 2001), measured PMI activity in Nicotiana tabacum suspension cells is relatively low which bring about slow metabolism of Man. These levels seem likely to be representative of tobacco in general, being similar to levels found in tobacco leaves (Barb et al., 2003). The PMI/mannose selection system has been successfully used for the regeneration of transgenic plants from several important crops such as sugar beet (Joersbo et al.,1998), cassava (Zhang and Puonti Kaerlas 2000), maize (Negrotto et al., 2000; Wright et al., 2001), wheat (Wright et al., 2001), rice (Lucca et al., 2001), Arabidopsis (Todd and Tague, 2001), pepper (Kim et al. 2002), sweet orange (Boscariol et al., 2003), pearl millet (O′Kennedy et al., 2004), tomato (Sigareva et al. 2004), ... The atrocities that were allowed to occur for hundreds of year are revolting to think about. History books and classes often detail the horrors of slavery, and the effects it had on our agricultural economy. However, they do not really explain why the practice of slavery was allowed to flourish in the colonies. They just present the facts of its occurrence. They do not consider the mindset of the people who thought it was justifiable to enslave a specific race. This paper seeks to answer this question using evidence from the studies of Degler, the Handlins, and Morgan. Slavery was not brought into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The blacks regardless of age or gender were always priced higher than their white counterparts, and the lengths of terms were absent. Their value was higher because their service was for life, explaining the absence of the length of term (Degler). Undoubtedly there are many more cases of blacks being treated as slaves and inferiors than there are of whites, even though there was a plethora of white servants. However, the presence of a large number of free Africans or those with defined terms of services shows us that the discrimination of blacks cannot be the sole cause of slavery. While slavery had definitely begun, it was not uniform or consistent by any means. Had there not been another factor involved, it is not unfathomable that different, albeit poorly treated, classes of Africans would have formed. Continuing on the last point, were it not for specific economic conditions, slavery would not have evolved into the enterprise that it did. The Handlins argue that blacks were just as unfree as the whites who were unfree were. They claim that economic circumstance was the reason that blacks were enslaved. Due to the tobacco revolution the planters needed more laborers. However, the Europeans had heard of the harsh treatment of servants. This dissuaded them to make the voyage to the colonies. Therefore, the owners had to make servitude more appealing so they lessened the terms and restricted punishment (Handlin). The blacks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was officially established in 1945 by Chapter IV of the Charter of the United Nations, which guaranteed that all member nations are guaranteed at least one representative in the General Assembly. The Charter established that the purpose of the General Assembly was to find solutions to potential threats to international peace and security and other issues within the scope of the Charter. It also gave the General Assembly responsibility for appointing non permanent members to the Security Council and overseeing the United Nations budget.1 In order to fulfill this mission, the General Assembly today passes resolutions that recommend actions that the international community should take in order to address a particular pressing problem. Although the resolutions passed by the General Assembly are not legally binding, they still have clout because they represent international consensus decisions and are often seen as the international moral norm. Since its creation, the General Assembly has successfully passed various resolutions in order to fulfill its goals as outlined by the United Nations Charter. Soon after its establishment, it adopted its first resolution on 24 January 1946; much like the resolutions that this committee may seek to draft at this conference, the General Assembly s first resolution sought to deal with issues surrounding the safe use of atomic energy and ... Abstract 5, 10, 15, 20 tetraphenylporphyrinatocobalt(II) showed good catalytic activity towards oxidation of 3,5 di tert butylcatechol to 3,5 di tert butyl benzoquinone by dioxygen in dimethylformamide. The oxidation reaction was followed by measuring dioxygen uptake. The rate constant of oxidation reaction showed a linear dependence on catalyst concentration and saturation kinetics in both 3,5 di tert butylcatechol concentration and dioxygen pressure. The kinetic parameters have been determined using Michaelis Menten approach. A mechanism has been suggested for the oxidation reaction. Today, in the United States (U.S.) alone, 59 national parks compromise the country s National Parks System, which was sanctioned by Congress and is managed by National Parks Service (NPS), an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior. The parks have become a controversial topic in recent legislation because some representatives are lobbying for change in ownership and management of the parks to create more economic return. Although the parks confer multiple benefits and costs on the U.S, perhaps the most contentious area of debate concerns the cost benefit dichotomy of the parks collective economic value. While some experts argue that the taxes required to maintain national parks are burdensome, or that management is often ineffective in preserving the parks economic benefit, others believe that their overall benefit to local communities and the national economy is noteworthy. These debates are often divided along party lines, with conservatives denouncing the parks costs, especially in restricting individual economic prospects, and liberals urging the federal preservation of the land for its values. Furthermore, solutions to achieve effective governance of public lands, or commons, such as those proposed in the stimulus source The Struggle to Govern the Commons, can be implemented in order to preclude the ... These are known as glycolipids and glycoproteins; they have carbohydrate chains protruding from them out of the cell membrane surface. They are the first molecules to be encountered and recognized by other cells, so they are used to identify the cell. Carbohydrates are used as the ligand component of glycoconjugates (glycoproteins and glycolipids) and their structure varies depending on the structure of the molecule it binds to, ranging from small saccharide units to very large polysaccharide chains. Although the carbohydrate chains are generally oligosaccharides and can either be straight or branched. Cell surface carbohydrates coat the exterior surfaces of cell membranes and extend from the phospholipid bilayer into the aqueous environment outside the cell presenting information rich binding sites and have the potential to carry necessary information to act as markers for cellular recognition. • 34. Voltage Instability, Voltage And Instability Abstract Voltage instability is one of the major power system problems which have appeared since the existence of the power systems. This paper investigates the performance of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) in voltage instability early prediction. Voltage instability early detection is necessary for avoiding voltage collapse which can lead to power system fast breakdown. In this research, the bus voltage phase is considered as the main factor of power system voltage instability early detection. Voltage instability leads to a considerable change in the difference between the consecutive buses voltage angles. A recurrent neural network trained with Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO) is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is examined on 14 bus and 30 bus IEEE standard systems. These systems are simulated using MATLAB/Power System Toolbox program. The performance of the proposed method is compared with Back propagation (BP) training algorithm. His translation of the Bible has helped to develop the correct version of the German language. Martin Luther was a great man. Martin Luther was born on the 10th of November, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany. Hans and Margaretha Luder were his parents. In 1501, he had been enrolled in the University of Erfurt at the age of seventeen. But all of that changed during a harsh thunderstorm where a lightning bolt struck near him on his way back to school. With terror he yelled these words, Help St. Anne! I ll become a monk! Since then, he dropped out of law school and started attending monastery there. He would devote himself only to things like fasts, long hour prayers, and constant confessions. He tried a lot to change this, but the more he tried to do this for God, it always seemed that he became more aware of his sinfulness. Martin Luther eventually ended up being good with God personally when his teacher, Johann von Staupitz, ordered that Luther needed more work to distract him from all his thoughts. Be that as it may, as a man of business, Walton, known as Mr. Sam, was an eccentric yet vital retail pioneer. Mr. Sam was imaginative, unequivocal, and discerning. Walton accepted among different qualities that to be effective in business one must swim upstream. He was splendid enough and sufficiently persevering to pick up a spot at the ... • 38. The Most Premorable Experience Of Camping At Avesta Pampanda Cold air. Dark night. Bright stars. It s only once in a lifetime, and I know that you will never regret this. Camping is one of the memorable event I ve ever been. Last January 2016, the most awaited experience of a Grade 10 student happened in Avesta Pampanga. Each one of us was really excited and you could see their biggest smiles on their faces. When we arrived in the place, everyone looked for their own designated spot to build the tent. On our group, we located it near the playground. Whenever we have free time, my friends and I spent some time and enjoyed each other company in this place. We were like kids who used to feel so much fun to playin the swing and seesaw. After that, we prepared ourselves in the first activity, which was to harvest rice crops in the field. Around two in the afternoon, we started to walk and straightly went to the farm field without wearing our slippers. Initially, everyone felt uncomfortable because of the heat from the sun. There was a man who guided and taught us the proper handling in the tool, which we used through for harvesting the rice grain. It was a great experience, I realized that the farmers really sacrifice themselves just to provide rice that is very important in our daily meal, and I really learned that I should not waste food... • 39. The Major Benefits Of The Education Of Music Music plays an important role in our world, as the global dictionary of theology says, Music is a part of everyday life. From heavy beats pounding in cars, to advertising jingles on radio (King), or as Ruth Jorgensen says, music was a social phenomenon and examined some of the ways in which groups form around particular beliefs and practices (Jorgensen). Musichas benefited the world in many ways all throughout history, from the expression of love and devotion towards god in a mass to the expressionism and individuality of jazz during the New Negro movement these are just a few of the many ways music has impacted our world greatly. Carlos R. Abril, and Brent M. Gault wrote in their journal research that some of the major benefits of the education of music consist of the transmission of cultural ideas and beliefs, the development of a sensitivity to and appreciation for the arts, and the opportunity to foster creativity, teamwork, and cooperation through participation in music (Abril and Gault). It is our responsibility to see how music has improved us as humans and it is our responsibility to raise our future generation with the understanding, love, and creativity that comes with the teaching of music. As Abril and Gault have said, one of the many benefits of musical education is the transmission of cultural ideas (Abril and Gault). What they are pointing out is that through the education and exposure of the culturally diverse music, we subject our children in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Self Deprivation In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Self Deprivation Women all over the world must follow society s expectations. In fact, in Saudi Arabia, women could not drive until late September of this year! Similarly, in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar, societal pressures push, the protagonist, Esther Greenwood to act in a particular way. Esther grows up in a small town and goes to New York for an internship for journalism. Through this opportunity she learns that she must act like an ideal woman of the time. Yet, she enjoys things that are out of the normality. This causes her to lose who she is and who she wants to become. In The Bell Jar, Plath reveals that strict women s standards may cause a loss of self. In the novel, women are upheld to a typical standard of how to act in public. For example, in the past and even in the twenty first century all over the world; women must dress a certain way. Using imagery Sylvia Plath describes how women have to look and act in society. Women ...had to wear hats and stockings and gloves to class (Plath 4). The author continues to say that the ladies who were out of school got jobs as secretaries. These secretaries are wandering around New York looking to marry to a man with money. The author illustrates how women have to dress and act a specific way which Esther did not conform with. She wanted to be a successful writer with or without a husband. The strict standards women obliged to leads to Esther losing her true identity. Society pressures women to act in a specific way. ... • 43. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Reverse Sequence Syphilis... Introduction The traditional algorithm for syphilis screening has involved use of a manual non treponemal test (e.g. rapid plasma reagin, RPR) followed by confirmation with a treponemal test (e.g. Treponema pallidum particle agglutination, TP PA). Non treponemal tests are inexpensive, but require significant hands on time by laboratory personnel and produce subjective results. High volume laboratories are increasingly using a reverse sequence algorithm, using partially or fully automated treponemal tests (e.g. enzyme immunoassay EIA, chemiluminescene immunoassay CIA, multibead immunoassay MBIA), followed by a non treponemal test (e.g. RPR, VDRL) if reactive (1). Potential advantages of the reverse sequence algorithm include reduced labor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our objective was to determine signal strength cutoffs associated with 98%, 99%, and 100% reactive confirmatory testing (TP PA or fluorescent treponemal antibody absorbed test, FTA ABS). For the four automated immunoassays we also attempted to establish a signal strength cutoff associated with a consensus of at least 4/7 reactive treponemal tests (the index test plus at least 3 others). The findings from this study will inform laboratory guidelines on use of confirmatory treponemal testing for patients with initially discordant serology. Results Among 1995 specimens tested, 907 (45%) were categorized as true positives and 1087(54%) as true negatives using a consensus of the test panel as the gold standard (see Materials and Methods for case definitions). Table 1 includes results for positive agreement, negative agreement and Kappa s statistics for the seven assays. • 44. Great Philosophers For this assignment, I chose the following three ethical philosophers: Confucius, Immanuel Kant, and Paulo Freire. Each of these ethicists differs in the way they resolved ethical dilemmas and the assignment will focus on how each ethicists would respond to a certain situation. Confucius reasoning is that all humanare good; however, when face with an ethical dilemma, there is an inequality between what is good and bad. I believe that the response from Confucius it would not be acceptable to steal food to feed a starving child. The reason why I believe this is because Confucius was a virtueethicist and believed in loyalty, which is respect for the law and stealing, is not showing respect for the law (Great Philosophers, n.d.). I believe that Confucius would go to the store and ask the store manager and tell him the situation about starving child. One of Confucius central virtues is honest, which is respect for the truth. Telling the store manager the truth is not only respecting the store but also respecting you (Great Philosophers, n.d.).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conformity Medicated state Anonymity Mechanical influence of the combine Chief Bromden believes that Nurse Ratched is able to turn on a fog machine that fills the whole ward with fog, obscuring his vision. Because of his schizophrenia, this fog is clearly shown to be a hallucination, but it carries great symbolic meaning. The fog machines in the ward are reminiscent of the Chief s time in the army, where fog machines were used to obscure the airfields. He says that while the fog machines were operating, you couldn t see nothing but white (p 131). The fog symbolises the anonymity that results from conforming to the rules of the ward, and the Chief uses this anonymity to protect himself from the punishments of Nurse Ratched. It also symbolises when he loses grip of reality, either as a result of his medication or out of fear. The rules and regulations of the ward and society, symbolised in part by the fog, are shown to be similar to castration, and the Chief realises this, saying that when he was immersed in the fog, he felt like from the waist down, you were being dissolved by the... • 46. Social Anxiety And Social Depression Social anxiety is condition that has been described since the days of Hippocrates. Hippocrates described an individual who would avoid social outings due to being timid, bashful, and fear of being misused, disgraced, make a fool of himself, or being sick and believes he is constantly being watched. Will the man who suffers from social anxietyreact differently to mistakes based on social context? A study by Barker, Troller Renfree, Pine, Fox in 2015 attempted to test that. Baker et al. tried to measure the error related negativity, an event potential that occurs 50 ms after the faulty response. The purpose of the study was to see if there is a relationship between the magnitude of the ERN and social anxiety. Barker et al. used two groups of individuals. The first group was a group that hardly exhibit social anxiety and the second group was a group that exhibited high levels of social anxiety. The first group has 10 males and 11 females and the second group had 11 males and 11 females. The individuals were selected by using the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale. Participants in the study also completed the Penn State Worry Questionnaire and the Beck Depression Inventory. The reason why Barker et al. selected the PSWQ is because it has shown high internal reliability in clinical and normative populations and has demonstrated the ability to be able to distinguish between the constructs of worry, anxiety, and depression. • 47. The Classical Hollywood Western Par Excellence 1A)In Matthew Bernstein s essay, The Classical Hollywood Western Par Excellence, he states that while Stagecoach (John Ford, 1939) appears to glorify American history, particularly its expansion westward at the expense of Native Americans (299) it also develops an acute social observation of life on the Frontier and it challenges elements of the myth constructed around this history (316). The film Stagecoach depicts not only the struggles faced by pioneers traveling through Indian territory, but the belief among people during this time period that anyone can go to the West to get a fresh start and live a completely new life without social prejudice. However, Stagecoach proves this myth to be false for various reasons. One example of this would be when Mr. Hatfield offers Mrs. Mallory water from the water canteen on the stagecoach. Once she accepts his offer, Mr. Hatfield pours it into a silver cup for her and does not offer anyone else in the stage coach water. Ringo then makes a comment to Mr. Hatfield that he should give the other lady in the stagecoach, Dallas, water as well. However, Dallas has a reputation of being a prostitute. So, Mr. Hatfield decides to give her some water but refuses to lend her the silver cup to drink out of, he makes her drink it out of the canteen instead. This example proves that these people were not getting a fresh start and only the upper class can share such luxuries as a silver cup with only other upper class people, social ... • 48. A Research Study On Global Integration To start off, the first thing that comes to mind is to define what global integration is. I guess you can say it is another way of saying free trade throughout the world. Throughout my research I found that there was not any true definition of global integration. So to define global integration there is really only one way. Global is defined as of or relation to the whole world and integration is the action or process of integrating. To put the words together global integration is defined as the action or process of integrating to the whole world. That is the definition I came up with. Now in my research I found a definition that was suitable and it is the process by which a company combines different activities around the world so that they operate using the same methods. Now that there are different definitions that we can use, there are a couple of things that I found interesting about global integration. In this paper I will be discussing four things about global integration. These four items are the history, advantages, disadvantages, and just my opinion of if global integration is either good or bad. Hopefully throughout this paper you will learn many things that you did not know about global integration. The history of global integration goes back many years. How did people come up with this form of integrating? Who invented the term? Who was the first person to use this in the world? These are just some of the questions that are asked when you start ...
