Character Of The Glass Menagerie
IOP FINAL WORD MY IOP TOPIC IS THE DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE CHARACTERS OF
THE PLAY THE GLASS MENAGERIE The Glass Menagerie is a play written by Tennessee
Williams the book talks about the hardships faced by the single women and how they care for
their children. The play has four characters. Amanda Wingfield is a woman from Mississippi
whose husband moved the family to St. Louis and abandoned her and her two children. Laura
has been left disabled by disease, and Tom is a would be poet. Amanda s life is a mixture of reality
and fantasy; she has struggled to support her children, who are now grown, but she refuses to
acknowledge Laura s disability and dreams of a happy married life for her. Each member of the

She is delicate, fanciful, and somehow old fashioned. So shy that she finds ordinary human
relationships almost unbearable, she is totally unequipped for the romantic role in which her
mother has cast her. She takes refuge among her glass figurines, the glass menagerie that is the
symbol of her fragility and her retreat from reality. Her collection of glass animals gives the play
its title .She is extremely shy, even emotionally disturbed, and she wears a brace on her leg
which makes her feel evident. Laura is painfully shy, unable to face the world outside of the tiny
Wingfield apartment. She spends her time polishing her collection of tiny glass animals, her
glass menagerie. Her presence is almost ghostly, and her inability to connect with others outside
of her family makes her dependent on Tom and Amanda. She does not work, and she has been
unable to complete a typing class because of her nervousness. Although she says she had once
liked a boy in high school, she has never had and is unlikely to have any kind of romantic
relationship. Because of her apparent physical deformity, she has become sensitive to what people
think of her. Her physical condition thus represents her mental distress; she is crippled both
physically and mentally. In search of companionship, she builds her own fantasy world with her
glass animal friends and with a Victrola and many old records. Laura, however, is more than a

The Plight Of Women In The 1920 s
After the First World War, America entered into a golden age during the 1920s. As American
soldiers succeeded during the war, women felt more confident to push for social change at home
because the country had economic and political stability (Yalom). Following more than 70 years of
women s protests for change, the United StatesCongress and President Woodrow Wilson finally
passed the Nineteenth Amendment in 1919. With the right to vote, more women began to work
outside of the home in factories (Dumenil 112). Women s new role in the workforce challenged the
traditional belief that women belonged at home raising their families. However, women still faced
difficulties when joining the workplace, and few women had professional careers despite... Show

Before the twenties, women made soap at home, but it usually harmed the skin so people
refused to bathe frequently (Sivulka, Cleanliness 25 28). Soapmakers had previously only
catered to the upper class, but as soldiers returned from the First World War, middle class families
bought more luxury goods, like perfumes and soaps (Sivulka, Cleanliness 48). Advertisers had to
convince housewives that manufactured soap had better qualities than homemade soap because
women refused to let a company produce what they had traditionally made (Sivulka, Cleanliness
48). Advertisers convinced women to purchase soap that had more fragrances and lotions because
they could not produce soap with those qualities at home (Sivulka, Cleanliness 48 49).
Advertisements for fragrant and beautifying soaps urged women to fit a gendered expectation of
beauty and youthfulness that usually represented an upper class status; middle class women
wished to imitate the upper class because they thought if they looked wealthy, then they would
gain more wealth. In addition, advertising used traditional images to persuade women to work in
the house for their families. Soapmakers made specialized soaps for certain purposes, like
cleaning, to gain more consumers (Sivulka, Cleanliness 48). In their advertising for these
specialized products, soapmakers often used the image of a housewife to appeal to the middle
class female audience who bought and used these products (Sivulka, Soap 226 227). With the
image of a housewife next to a cleaning product, the target audience understood that only women
used the product. Soap advertisements conveyed the message that women belong at home in order
to properly care for their families while striving to remain as beautiful as

Living On Mars
People will be living on Mars by 2031, but where is the next place we will colonize? When you
think about the Earth what do you think of? The ocean? The grass? The sky? What about all the
pollution that humans have put on the Earth? Why do we live on Earth? We as humans are fully
capable of going to other planets. Heck, we have done it, but what about beyond those planets, and
beyond the entire universe. What is out there? There is a many number of possibilities. There
could be other universes, or maybe there is nothing out there. We don t know. If there are other
universes or other dimensions, we might be able to inhabit them. They could have some new
element to cure cancer, or simply another fresh water source, but we won t know unless... Show

These are the 10 dimensions of the superstring theory. Evidence of the Multiverse and Multiverse
Theories There are 5 main theories on why the multiverse is possible. The first theory is that we
don t know the shape of space time. Space time could be flat and stretch on forever causing
multiple universes. If this theory is true there would be universes that repeat themselves because
atoms can only be put together so many ways (Howell). The second theory is eternal inflation. This
states that some areas of space stop inflation, but some continue to get larger, so our universe could
be a bubble sitting in a network of bubble universes. In this theory the laws of physics could be
different for each universe because they aren t linked (Howell). The third theory is that multiple
universes can follow the theory of quantum mechanics, and daughter universes. If you follow the
laws of probability it suggests that for every outcome that could come from your decisions there
would be a range of universes, each with a different outcome from your decisions (Howell). The
fourth theory of the multiverse is that of mathematical universes. This theory suggests that the
structure mathematics could change depending on which universe you are in (Howell). The last
multiverse theory goes back to the fact that spacetime could be flat. But, the number of possible
particle configuration in multiple

Hamlet Delays In Killing Claudius Essay
There are several theories about why Hamlet, the main character of Shakespeare s masterpiece,
Hamlet, delays in killing his Uncle, King Claudius. As the son of a murdered noble, Hamlet is
obligated to avenge the death of his father.
However, the act is never performed until the end of the play... quite some time after Hamlet
discovered Claudius was his father s killer. Some historians and literary experts would say Hamlet s
strong religious bonds prevented him from performing the sinful deed. Others would have it that
Hamlet was a melancholic and therefore was too intellectual to kill his uncle. Infamous
psychologist, Sigmund Freud, felt Hamlet suffered from an Oedipal complex and could not kill
Claudius because he himself wished to be in Claudius place.
Hamlet delays in killing Claudius not only because he s suffering from an Oedipal complex but
also because he is far too sane or practical to commit an act of murder. In other words, basic
sanity keeps him from killing Claudius. In society we are taught that those who commit murder
are sick or insane. However, Hamlet s society believes the son of a murdered noble is responsible
for avenging his father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did King Phillip War Change Over Time
King Phillip s War was a conflict that arose in Massachusetts in 1675 and lasted until 1676. It
was a war that was fought between the Wampanoag and the English, and the specific reasons for
it are always contested. Perceptions of this historical event have been challenged over time. The
historiography of King Phillip s war not only shows us how the events changed over time. The
events changed over time from being a struggle over land for expansion for the Puritains, as well
as power. That, over time evolved to a power struggle and then progressed to the idea that the
Native Americans were an barrier in the way of the Puritains land access, wanting to be able to
gain more access to land for their growing population size . Religion was also... Show more content

The English were arriving in large numbers, and as more and more of them came, there was
more need for land for them to settle. Another belief that scholars had was that the war was
fought over religion and that it was a holy war to gain more followers in the Christian faith, and
bring the Native Americans to praying towns. Earlier accounts of the war focus on the first
interpretations of the event, which were more ethnocentric based, and these perceptions of the
war are put into a box, and are what historians base their research of. Later interpretation from the
1850 s onward until up until the 1960 s led to different interpretations, shaped by society and
culture of the 19th century. Now the war was being viewed as a conquest of a civilization, instead
of it being fought as a war. This difference in interpretation is due to The English were afraid that
the native Americans were a threat to them, because of their ethnocentric views, and the Natives
felt that they were being threatened as well, because By the nineteenth century, King Phillip and his
war had become romanticized, due to the World War s romanticism. From the 1960 s on, Native
Americans were now starting to have a voice in American History, and becoming a part of the
historical narrative, which was due to the American Indian

Locke And Descartes Argument Analysis
Everyone has their own beliefs about where ideas come from and how they are formed. Locke and
Descartes both had very different arguments about what the origin of these ideas was. Descartes
believed that the origin of ideas stemmed from imagination or reason and that we have been born
with all of the knowledgewe need; we just have to come to an experience or age where we will
know how to use it. Whereas Locke believed that the origin of ideas came from experience and we
have to learn everything we need to know. I agree with both arguments that these philosophers have
presented. Being an Education major and being required to study the ways in which children learn
and how their brains are formed has helped me see the flaws in their arguments,... Show more

But in reality children aren t aware of the sky being blue because they have to learn colors when
they go to school for the first time. For instance, it is seen that people in society that don t attend
school only know as much as they have seen in life or have experienced. Individuals evolve
based on their environment. Furthermore, no one person is born knowing that the sky is blue,
all children are supposed to learn colors when they start school or if their parents start working
on colors with them before they start school. Descartes to some extent was right about his ideas
because we know when children are born they cry because the hospital room is cold. They also
cry when they have a full diaper. This proves that infants have a minor sense of communication,
even though they may not understand that they are actually calling to their parents for help. So, it
can be said that humans are born knowing how to cry as a technique to let their loved ones realize
that they are distressed. No one taught them how to cry, babies are just able to come out of the
womb with the ability to cry as a temporary substitute until they can learn how to

The Ethical Dilemma Of Grand Nursing Theories
Grand nursing theories are global in their application to nursing and have been instrumental in
developing the science of nursing (McEwen Wills, 2014). Grand nursing theories are abstract and
can be applied to many different situations. Because grand nursing theories are broad they can be
applied to ethical dilemmas that occur in nursing practice. Ethical dilemmas are a part of the
healthcare field and it is important to know how to navigate through the murky waters that
dilemmas can present. Nursing theories are a road map that allows nurses and healthcare workers
to find the best option to resolve a problem. One of the theories developed was by Virginia
Henderson and called the theory of need and is still being applied to nursing... Show more content

The patient s son accused the nursing staff of mistreating his mother by administering pain
medications to frequently which was causing his mother to be overly sedated and would not
allow administration of pain medication without his approval first. The son was refusing to
accept his mother s condition and assumed his mother would make a miraculous recovery, he
was always coming to the hospital in the middle of the night drunk. Because the nursing staff was
distressed over the son s refusal to accept his mother s condition, an ethics meeting was convened
to decide what was ethically appropriate for the patient. After the meeting, the patient was
changed to comfort care and nursing staff was allowed to administer medications as necessary to
keep the patient comfortable. The nursing staff updated the son twice a day on his mother s
condition and the patient soon passed away with her son at the bedside. Grand Nursing Theory
There are many grand nursing theories that could be applied to this ethical dilemma. However,
Virginia Henderson recognized death as an option when treatment is no longer an option. Virginia
Henderson developed the theory of need. The theory of need defines nursing as assist[ing] the
individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities that will contribute to health or its
recovery (or to a peaceful death) that the person would perform unaided given the necessary
strength, will, or knowledge (Henderson, 1997, p. 22). She described the

National Constituent Assembly Essay
To what extent did the reforms of the Constituent Assembly create discontent?
The National Constituent Assembly solved some of Frances short term problems, but caused
significant discontent due to its inability to resolve long term problems, that had been destroying
France economically, politically and socially. There were some groups of society that were quite
content with the reforms of the Constituent Assembly, such as a majority of the bourgeoisie,
peasants who gained from the abolition of the Feudal system, and some members of the first and
second Estate. However, many other people and groups, such as King Louis XVI, Nobles who had

The financial crises of the 1780 s did not magically disappear when the feudal system was
abolished. In fact, France s financial situation was becoming worse, with prices of bread and
flour at an all time high. The Constituent Assembly, eager to solve France s economic problem,
brought in a new currency, called the Assignats. Effectively, each Assignat was an ownership
right to a piece of land, a kind of collateral from the government. Most of the land had previously
been owned by the Church, but was forfeited to the State under the Civil Constitution of the
Clergy, an act that proclaimed the Clergy had to swear allegiance to the State, rather than the
Pope, and therefore all their property and wages were put under State control. It was one of the
most successful reforms, as the new currency stabilised the economy for a critical period of
time, and released the pressure that was on France, financially. It was also during this period that
the trial by jury system was introduced, a system that still exists today. Twelve citizens were
used as a jury to decide on the guilt or innocence of their peers, in a public trial. It was a giant
step towards the democratic system of government that is used in the modern world. On August 4
1789, the Declaration of the Rights of Man, was proclaimed. It was an almost radical declaration,
based on freedoms and human rights, and with it came the abolition of Feudal privileges. It

Is Beauty In The Eye Of The Beholder
Imagine you are walking through the woods on a sunny fall day, during this walk there are many
things that might bring you pleasure. Along the way you might hear a bird singing, feel a rock as
you hike a path, taste cold water to replenish your thirst, and see many beautiful sights. The person
you are walking with may have a total different experience and sensethings that bring pleasure to
them that may not to you. There is an old adage that says Beauty is in the eyeof the beholder. This
adage can be debated time and time again. The first things to look at is the definitions of beauty
and beholder. The dictionary defines beauty is a combination of qualities that pleases the
aesthetic senses ( Beauty ). It doesn t say beauty has to be seen by the eye. Beauty can be
combination of our five senses. It can be anything we can see, touch, taste, feel, or smell. The
definition of beholder is a person who observes a sense. The adage Beauty is in the eye of the
beholder by definition means that each person sees beauty and can find beauty in different things
through their senses ( Beholder ). It creates a very subjective approach to beauty. The adage is
true because each person is an individual and has different perspectives and way of sensing. The
idea that what pleases one person may not please another is true along this case because not
everybody has the same preference to beauty. Beauty is subjective and can be seen through
personal experience and should give society a

`` Handlebars `` By Flobots And Hitler s Book
There is a great difference between coming to the realization of your own potential and actually
putting it to use. All over the world, although mostly in more developed countries, revolutions and
amazing discoveries have been caused by single human beings that are being active about their
knowledge. Some people are more passive about their ability to use their higher level thinking
skills, though. It is intimidating to think of the power that dominant individuals have had in the
past, such as influencing people s thinking and controlling their lives or making significant
advancements and saving numerous lives. The song Handlebars by Flobots and Hitler s book,
Mein Kampf, both exhibit a sense of power, ability to influence people s thinking, and a lack of
self control that lead to the more detrimental path of using one s knowledge and potential.
One of Adolf Hitler s main points throughout his book was how Germans are superior to every
other race and how Nazi s should be in complete power. He believed that the Aryan race was
perfect, and even encouraged women to bear as many children of this race as they could. He even
goes to the extent where he describes what the perfect person looks like, which consisted of pale
skin, blue eyes, etc. With this, he concluded that Jews and Gypsies were the most racially inferior
with full plans to eliminate them. Writing this book while in jail, being incarcerated for trying to
seize southern Germany, he must have been extremely confident

Increasing of Deforestation When people get sick they believe it s because they didn t took the

the environment that they are living in that is making them sick. At first people say it s other
people that are making them sick, yes is true but what is really causing all this sickness is

itself? Deforestation is a permanent destruction of indigenous woodlands. There is a lot
happening due to deforestation. The world is falling apart, many disasters are happening
because of deforestation. In the past couple of years the world has been deteriorating with
earthquakes, hurricanes and tornadoes but what are people doing to make it stop? The world is

minute, and every second that passes by and the people that live in the world is not doing anything
to make the conditions of the world get any better. The world is getting destroyed without people
knowing that it is their own selves the ones that are getting destroyed as well. People need to start

A life of fame, luxury, and well known plays. This was unquestionably the life of Arthur Miller,
who is one of America s well known playwrights of the twentieth century. His impact on
American theater is still recognized today and will continue to be looked at for years to come.
However, Miller will not only be recognized by his plays but by his high profile marriage, his
work in politics and the list goes on. Arthur miller is viewed through American literature by his
life, literary works, and impact on American theater. Born in New York City, New York on
October 17, 1915, by two Polish immigrant Isidore and Augusta Miller. In Millers early years his
father was a successful business owner providing a luxury life for his family. Due to the start of
the great depression in the late 1920 s his business collapse, this had a big impact on Millers life.
Centola stats in a biography, This sudden collapse of the familiar world was a crucial experience
in Miller s life, and he would later frequently draw on the tensions that were created by that severe
economic crisis in his writings (Centola). After high school miller will eventually attended the
University of Michigan in 1934, this is where Millers playwriting career began. There, in addition
to engaging in occasional journalistic efforts, he effectively launched his playwriting career; by the
time he graduated with a BA in 1938, he had seen his own dramas performed and had received
several honors (Centola). After Graduating

An inspector calls. Essay
An inspector calls. I am going to write about how J. B. Priestley builds up tension and suspense
within An Inspector calls . The play was written in 1945 due to the divide at that time between
Capitalists and Socialists. Given the fact that J. B. Priestley was a socialist (felt that everyone
should have equal amounts of money), he was criticizing the ways of capitalists (they felt that
you got what you earned). The play is set in 1912, a time just before a lot of dramatic incidents
happened, e. g. World War 1, The Titanic sinking. All of the play takes place in the Birling s
dining room, they are celebrating. Each of the characters in this play (except inspector Goole and
Edna), are partly responsible for the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sheila is stated to be a pretty girl in her early twenties . We would certainly not call someone in
their twenties a girl , the word is used because Sheila has not grown up mentally. Gerald is an
attractive chap , meaning that he s just a little big headed, but generally well mannered. Eric is
said to be not quite at ease . I do not think that Eric really fits in to the Birling family, he is quite
different. The tension between Arthur Birling and the audience begins when Birling speaks of
labour trouble and stating that we ve passed the worst of it when the first World War was just
about to start or had already started. What we must remember is that people who are watching
this play are still very angry and upset about the second World War. So, Mr Birling strikes them
as a total idiot and the audience dislike him. A certain amount of tension amounts between
various family members also. The occasions on which these things happen are: В· Sheila and
Gerald Gerald told Sheila that he had been working the previous summer when he hardly went
near her. She had suspicions that Gerald was being untrue to her. She was assured, however, that
it was all in her head. She finds out that Gerald was being untrue when he was being interrogated.
В· Sheila and Eric Sheila has always said that Eric drinks too much but he has refused to believe it.
In a strange twist, Sheila and Eric stand

The Human Body Is Complex, And All Humans
Paul Ojugo
The human body is complex, and all humans are similar to one another in many ways. As humans
we share a lot of characteristics in common with one another, such as having hands, feet, eyes,
nose, gender, ethnic backgrounds and etc. There has to be some characteristic or organ we have
that differentiate all of us, and all these features we have in common, and that is our brain. The brain
is one of the largest and most complex organs in the human body. It is made up more than 100
billion nerves that communicate in trillions of connections called synapses. Synapse is a junction

nervous system, including the cerebrum, basal ganglia, diencephalon, limbic system, brainstem, and

etal 1997).The largest portion of the brain is the cerebrum. This section contains tools which are
responsible for most of the brain function, and it is divided into four subsections. The temporal
lobe, the occipital lobe, parietal lobe, and frontal lobe. The cerebrum is divided into a right and left
hemisphere which are connected by axons that relay messages from one to the other. This matter
is made of nerve cells which carry signals between the organ and the nerve cells which run
through the body. The parietal lobe is one of the four lobes located in the cerebral hemisphere,
this lobe focuses on comprehension, visual functions, language, reading, and internal stimuli.
Tactile sensation and sensory comprehension are the main trait focused in this lobe. The parietal
lobe is separated into two different cortex s named sensory cortex, and motor cortex, The sensory
cortex which is located in the front portion of the parietal lobe receives information relayed from
the spinal cord regarding the position of various body parts and how they are moving, this area of

Essay On Lucretia
The purpose of this assignment is to present a brief yet comprehensive formal analysis of the work
in question, namely, Joos van Cleve s Lucretia. The painting was completed ca. 1525 by the
Flemish artist most likely in Antwerp, where he was highly active from about 1511 until his death
in 1540. The paintingis oil on panel (75.9 x 60.6 cm) and is exemplary of the early Baroqueperiod.
The work depicts at the broadest level the suicide of the early Roman historical figure, Lucretia,
following her rape c. 510 BC by Sextus Tarquinius, son of the last Roman king. The incident bears
historical significance as it marks rising popular dissatisfaction of the Roman people with the
monarchy, and the transition from the Roman Kingdomto the Roman Republic,... Show more

This image of Lucretia is not that of some mythological or religious origin, say, of a venus, for
example, part of whose appeal is the depiction of nudity without social repercussion. With respect to
the time which bore this painting, it is not unlikely that this inclination to experiment with the
female nude was in part sublimated by means of this historical subject matter, however, so say that
Lucretia s nudity is illustrated only on account of what would amount to the privilege of moral
impunity is perhaps too simple an explanation. It seems much more reasonable to posit that
Lucretia s own nudity, especially in conjunction with her opulent, indeed, what is surely very
expensive clothing (other depictions of Lucretia typically omit the inclusion of clothes altogether),
is employed by Cleve to highlight Lucretia s shame amid her wealth and regal lifestyle, her clothes
have been cleaved open, and she had been irrevocable hurt and humiliated. Whether intended by the
artist, this awkward parting of Lucretia s garments over her left shoulder and down through her
abdomen adds greatly to the desolation and pity associated with her historical figure. Ultimately,
this compositional decision serves to augment the paintings emotional

The Bystander Effect By Bibb Latane And John Darley
Overview On March 13, 1964 thirty eight neighbors failed to intervene when a 28 year old woman
named Katherine Kitty Genovese was being murdered behind the building. (Manning, Levine,
Collins, 2007). This incident proposed the experiment of the Bystander Effect by Bibb LatanГ©
and John Darley, among other scientists, to find out why thirty eight people had not done anything
to help during this situation (LatanГ© Darley, 1969).
According to LatanГ© and Darley (1969), The Bystander Effect has three main explanations
behind it, which includes diffusion of responsibility, evaluation apprehension, and pluralistic
ignorance (Darley LatanГ©, 1968). Diffusion of responsibility withdraws a person from
exhibiting a helping behavior when there are other bystanders present because it is expected that
others can contribute to the helping behavior, and that the outcome is not just on one person s
shoulders (LatanГ© et al., 2002). On the other hand, when a person imagines that there are no
other people present, or that the people present are not able to engage in a helping behavior, a
person will act as if he or she was alone and will be more likely to intervene in the situation (Darley,
Teger, Lewis, 1973).
Before acting during an emergency, a person is most likely to scan around and observe whether
others are already taking responsibility, or are about to take responsibility for it; if those people in
the scene of an emergency are not doing anything, then the person will feel

Weeds Landscaping
There are various means of training weeds control landscaping. They ve been developed for a long
time and also have attained a level at which they could be managed with the much less challenges
achievable and also at the most lucrative extent; probably the most wide spread approaches of
weeds control landscaping are the common hand weeding, mulching and also mowing and
trimming.
The mulching calls for reducing the quantity of lighting that reaches the weeds, while mowing and
trimming indicates reducing the weeds producing of seeds, consequently limiting their spread; it

Besides getting rid of the weeds by getting rid of them you can practice the weeds control

They can adapt to almost any given situation with the least use of energy. A dense culture of lawn
can prevent weeds from extending.
If you are wandering why there are always so many weeds showing up all over the place, just
imagine that one single pigweed plant can singlehandedly produce up to 117.000 seeds at once!

Essay on Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
The Evils of Society Exposed in The Lottery
In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery, what appears to be an ordinary day in a small town takes an evil
turn when a woman is stoned to death after winning the town lottery. The lottery in this story
reflects an old tradition of sacrificing a scapegoat in order to encourage the growth of crops. But
this story is not about the past, for through the actions of the town, Jackson shows us many of the
social ills that exist in our own lives.
In today s society we often have an all too casual attitude toward misfortune; Jackson shows us this
aspect of human nature through the town s casual attitude toward the lottery. The men talk of rain,
tractors and taxes and the women gossip all the time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many things in our own society parallel the villagers actions. What do most people do when they
see a car accident? They fear it and then they look for carnage; we have to slow down and stare at
an accident Not only do we electrocute criminals, we want to watch the executions live on
television. Perhaps Jackson received the best example of this aspect of human nature; she claims
that most of the letters she received about the lottery wanted to know where these lotteries were
held, and whether they could go there and watch (Friedman 87). People were not shocked into
examining their own lives. They wanted to know where they could go see a live stoning.
Jackson also gives examples of hypocrisy, which runs rampant in today s society. Tessie is
perfectly willing to stone one of her neighbors, but when she is the one who is going to be
stoned, she says, It isn t fair, it isn t right (Jackson 868). Likewise, Mr. and Mrs. Adams talk of
stopping the lottery, yet when it comes time to stone Tessie, Mr. Adams is leading the pack.
Also the men seem to be concerned that women have a man to draw for them: Glad to see your
mother s got a man to do it and Don t you have a grown boy to do it (Jackson 865). But in the end
the men no longer care about the well being of the women; they must take the same chance at
dying. The fact that Tessie is a woman doesn t save her from dying. The Lottery also offers

Furthermore, in low involvement situations, the affect attached to the identity signs may be one of
the few elements that differentiates the offer (Hoyer e Brown, 1990; Leong, 1993). Previous
research suggests consumers evaluation of the organization s logo directly influences their
evaluation of the organization (Schechter, 1993; Stafford et al., 2004). The probability of affect
transfer depends on its nature (positive or negative), on the intensity of affective reactions and on
the way signs are associated to products and organisations. Several authors refer that the name and
logo should evoke the same intended set of associations, and communicate one clear message
(Durgee and Stuart, 1987; Keller 1993; Kopp et al., 1990; Vartorella, 1990). Semiotics literature
suggests that this meaning can be obtained through the analysis of the nuclear or consensual
meaning evoked by the logo (Perrussia, 1988). Previous research shows that identity signs which
elicit a shared set of associations are better liked, transfer more positive affect to the organisation,
and are better recognized than signs with an ambiguous meaning (Henderson and Cote, 1998;
Schecter, 1993). Finally, the less ambiguous the organization s identity signs, the more likely its
intended positioning will be shared across a

Essay on When One, Equals Two
The traditional family is being challenged. The days when mothers and fathers raised the children
together are sharing equal stature with single parent, mixed families with step parents and siblings
by marriage, and same sex families. Some families are carefully planned with love and are ideal.
Some of these families units have heartbreak in their origins. Familytragedies such as parental
death and separation have torn families apart. Divorce rates are higher than ever and more
families are faced with choosing, even fighting over, with which parent will the children live with.
One of the many statistics found in the U.S. Census in 2007 states that, More than one quarter of

In most cases, nature has designated mothers as the caretaker for the raising of offspring. Few argue
the fact that mothers have been the individuals to love and nurture children. From the beginning
recorded history, a mother s first duty was to her husband and then to children, based on traditional
and religious role definitions. But as the traditional families continued to change and evolve,
fathers have been forced to accept the multiple roles required to raise the children alone. Dads have
become moms in a sense.
As modern fathers have become adequate mothers in the single parent family unit, the notion that a
mother is the only nurturing individual in the family is simply not true now. The qualities of love,
patience, and compassion are not gender bound ( Single Dads 2001). Society has long been
transforming men from the cavemen lumbering to skilled hunter gatherers to loving husbands and
to caring parents. As single mothers have had to take on traditional paternal responsibilities as
financial providers and disciplinarians, so to have fathers accepted the traditional maternal roles in
the home, and as caregiver. Cooking and cleaning are shared responsibilities in the family now.
Consequently, men have taken the responsibility to change diapers, wipe runny noses, bathe and
comfort their hurting children in two parent households. Research shows that children benefit
greatly when a father is more involved in the nurturing of his children. So

The Media s Portrayal Of Asian Americans
Throughout history, the media has been known to be influential towards how individuals of
society perceive the world and their environment. This influence can lead to people creating
prejudices towards those who are highlighted by the media. It also has the ability to change the
attitude of one person towards another class of people and stereotype them in positive, but
mostly negative ways. One population that has played victim to the repercussions of the mass
media is Asian Americans, who have been oppressed and deemed a minority by Americans. The
media s portrayal of Asian Americans has had detrimental effects on one s opportunities,
performance, and their perception of the world. The mass media consists of any means of
communication that has the ability to reach a large amount of people. The term media can refer
to movies, television, the newspaper, etc. It is because of it s ability to out reach to a mass
quantity of people that it is able to reinforce and teach societal values. At a young age, socialization
occurs in that it involves the learning of the values and the norms of society and adopting them into
their own personal values (Perse, 2001.) Children often have little life experience so they learn and
imitate their environment whether that be the characters on television or societal institutions like
their families or teachers at school. Adolescents are more susceptible to socialization in that they

Women should never be forced to face sexual harassment for fear of losing their jobs. The
shocking fact of the entire situation is how well known this secret was in Hollywood. And it
begs the question: how do you separate art from the artist? Harvey Weinstein has produced some
of the most extraordinary films of all time, but that doesn t excuse his actions. Reports of sexual
harassment allegations against men in the film industry are incredibly common these days, but
does that mean we need to completely disregard the films they ve made? It s hard to appreciate
someone s work in the same way after learning about a sexual harassment charge against them,
but movies are made by thousands of people, and should all their work be disregarded because of
one person s actions? It s difficult to find the line at where to judge people, because artists aren t

something so horrific had to happen to bring this to the attention of the media, it brings hope for

The Story Of Ghosts By Henrik Ibsen
Duty To Death The story of Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen shows us a multitude of issues, whether the
readers think the piece as a basic form of literature or believe that the scripture shows the issues
and lies or the fighting facts of injustice in the text. The constant fight between free will and duty in
this story triumphs the characters of Mrs. Alving and Pastor Manders as they convene over what
they think is right and what they are bound to do, even as the smaller character of Regine slightly
deals with the same issue.
Duty comes up in repeated cycles throughout the script of Ghosts, and the roles people are bound
to in their life relays to the role they act in society. The duty of Mrs. Alving is no soft tale, as we
are told of her husband s horrid affairs. The wife and mother of her nature and setting is duty
bound to protect her husband s reputation, no matter how unsavory he is, and to sacrifice
everything for her son. In return, the son must love his mother. In a way, we question the duty
of the mother and ask whether or not it was right of Mrs. Alving to cover her husband s actions
from her son, Osvald. Despite Ibsen s opinion of conspiracy, the cover up and how he writes the
script as if he supports the hiding and the sacrifice, the reader on their own must make a choice in
the matter. For Mrs. Alving to know her motherly duty and protect her son during his young years
was a courageous execution for the paths she found available. As said by George Bernard Shawin

Gender Aspects Of Gender
The way people look at gender has been changing over the past few years. Gender has always
been a social topic on what boys should do and what girls should do. Although, with the new
generation, I have seen people break the mold of gender stereotypes. Over the years, I have seen
many classmates and schools changing the status quo of gender. My generation has a different
opinion on gender stereotypes than my grandparents and even my parents. Gender stereotypes are
changing with each generation, whether it be through sports or the occupations people have.
My Grandparents went to high school in the mid 1950 s and women were not allowed to play many
sports back then. My Grandma told me that they thought the girls would get hurt. My
grandmother played basketball and they didn t let the girls cross the half court line. They had
three girls on each side so that they did not over exert themselves. Nowadays, girls can play
almost any sport they want. Hockey is a good example of how girls can play manlier sports.
When people think of hockey, they think of it more as a manlier sport, like football. There are
so many girls that play hockey with the same intensity as when men play. A good friend of mine,
who went to the same middle school as me, played on a travel hockey team. If you saw her, you
would never expect her to play hockey. She always wore dresses and has her hair done. She is not
your typical hockey playing girl. After seeing her play in a game, my impression of her changed.
She was very physical when going after other players with the puck. She would hit other players
into the glass now and then. She could handle other players hitting her pretty hard as well. She
got rocked by one player and just got back up on her skates and went back into the fray. Now, I
believe she is the toughest girl I know. She completely breaks the mold of the small, frail, girl
stereotype.
Another example of girls playing a manlier sport would be football. I went to an all boys catholic
high school, and right next door to us was our sister school. Every year, the seniors and juniors
would be allowed to compete in powder puff football. They would practice all summer and after
school in September for a month. Some of the guys from our

Danielle Janofsky Biography
Danielle Janofsky was preparing to welcome her second baby into the world, along with her
husband, Max Janofsky, and the baby s big sister, four year old, Avery.
The mother to be was in the sixth month of her pregnancy when she began to feel sick to her
stomach. She felt concerned about the nauseous feeling she was experiencing, sadly she was right.
WDSU reported Danielle had developed melanoma.
Danielle s GoFundMe page described her cancer:
Was quickly discovered that melanoma had spread to her liver, kidney, stomach, and, finally, brain.
According to Today, Danielle had already been diagnosed with melanoma in May 2015, having a
a mole removed from her left shoulder. Her husband, Max, said she was given a good prognosis,

Within days the beast ravaged her body, leaving her broken and failing. With her best friend by
her side, she sacrificed herself to save her son, a beautiful tiny boy named Jake. Three days later she
was gone.
If love could have saved her, she would have lived a hundred years.
The connection between cancer and pregnancy became highlighted following Danielle s sudden
death. Dr. Sapna Patel, a melanoma oncologist at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston
described how cancer could affect a pregnancy:
It s possible that pregnancy is a type of immune suppression. Your body is really focusing its
efforts on growing another human being, so it s a little distracted on really taking care of itself.
The American Academy of Dermatology reports more women of child bearing years, between 20
year s old through 40 year s old are developing melanoma, reminding women that getting tested for
the disease during pregnancy is safe.
Mayo Clinic s Dr. dermatologist, and member of Stand Up to Cancer s research team, Aleksandar

The Correlation Between Amounts Of Time Spent Playing...
What is the relationship between the amounts of time spent playing video games and your amount
of sleep?
Introduction
Nearly every day, you can read articles about urbanized countries throughout the world, with
issues or concerns arising from individuals playing video games for excessive amounts of time.
Individuals form addictions to a surge in excessive or violent behaviors, commonly found
among teens or younger children. Studies also indicate playing excessive amounts of video
games can also have an effect on your sleeping patterns in a negative way. For instance, playing
an extreme amount of video games prior to going to bed may create a more difficult time in
falling asleep. So, I decided to take on a similar yet different type of study to discover out how
much video gaming an average high schooler plays each night and how this may affect how many
hours of sleep he/she receives. I was unable to find any online articles for this type of study, so I
decided to find out for myself using the high school population at a local school. As the study
began, I did believe that students who participated in excessive video gaming may receive less sleep.
Statement of Task
The focus of this study was to investigate if the amount of time students spend playing video games
each evening may have an influence on the quantity of sleep the average high school student
receives. To determine this, I requested teachers to allow me to survey students during school hours
in an

Cognition, as defined by Neisser, is all the processes by which the brain transforms, reduces,
elaborates, stores, retrieves, and uses information. Physiology refers to the structures of the human
body and brain. The relationship between cognition and physiology is bi directional, meaning that
cognition can effect physiology and vice versa. Every cognitive aspect ... Show more content on

These two stores and further divided. Explicit memory contains episodic (events) and semantic
(facts). implicit contains procedural (skills) and emotional (emotions). For amnesic patients, the
problem lies mostly with explicit memory.
There are three main ways to study the differences between the types of memories. The first is the
study of anterograde amnesic patients. For example, the study done by Spiers, Maguire and
Burgess. They studied 147 cases of anterograde amnesia with damage to the hippocampus.
psychological testing proved that all cases had impaired episodic memory and limitedly impaired
semantic. This shows that the hippocampus is responsible for episodic memory. To make the
conclusion more reliable, another study was done by Vargha and Khadem, with 3 anterograde
amnesic patients, and found the same results, except that the semantic memory was completely
intact. They found that semantic memory was localized to the cortices underlying the hippocampus.
Another way of studying the differences between the two is by studying retrograde amnesic
patients. a retrograde amnesic patient known as KC was studied to find that the damage to his
hippocampus impaired his episodic memory, but his semantic memory was still intact. The study of
amnesic patients is done in psychology to study the relations between the physiology and cognition,
because the damage to the brain can be seen easily,

Sensorial Education in Montessori
Sensorial Education
Introduction to Sensorial
What is Sensorial Education?
Sensorial education can simply be defined as the training of senses of children for future learning.
What is Sensorial Work
Sensorial comes from the words sense or senses. It helps the child to be able to concentrate on the
refinement of all his senses, from visual to stereognostic.
The Purpose of Sensorial Work
The purpose and aim of Sensorial work is for the child to acquire clear, conscious, information and
to be able to then make classifications in his environment. Montessori believed that sensorial
experiences began at birth. Through his senses, the child studies his environment. Through this
study, the child then begins to understand his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Maria Montessori in her The Discovery of the Child, Although the sense of touch is
spread throughout the surface of the body, the Exercises given to the children are limited to the
tips of the fingers, and particularly, to those of the right h and. This allows the child to really focus
on what he is feeling, through a concentration of a small part of his body. This can be achieving
using the following materials/exercises; 1. Sensitizing fingertips 2. Touch boards 3. Touch tablets 4.
Fabrics
In the Baric sense Exercises, the child learns to feel the difference of pressure or weight of
different objects. This sense is heightened through the use of a blindfold or of closing your eyes.
This can be achieving with baric tablets exercise.
In the Thermic Sense Exercises, the child works to refine his sense of temperature. This can be
achieving using the following materials/exercises; 1. Thermic bottles 2. Thermic tablets
In the Auditory Sense Exercises, the child discriminates between different sounds. In doing these
different Exercises, the child will refine and make him more sensitive to the sounds in his
environment. This can be achieving using the following materials/exercises; 1. Sound boxes 2.
Montessori bells
In the Olfactory and Gustatory Sense Exercises, the child is given a key to his smelling and tasting
sense respectively. Although not all smells or tastes are given to the child in these

I Want To Become A Career In Music
Loud music blared throughout the house while everyone attempted to sleep. Yes, It was me, a
promising young producer with a passion for music.By the time I was 14, I was marketing and
selling beats online. At a young age, I began surrounding myself with other producers and audio
engineers, and as a result, I began to learn useful techniques to become more successful. It is quite
difficult being a consistent music producer, therefore, I am compelled to work diligently to
diversify my music. Because of my experiences with music I ve grown to have exceedingly strong
traits of versatility and commitment. I ve also become remarkably resilient to hardships. I ve made
beats for popular artist such as Post Malone, Famous Dex, Lil Lonnie,... Show more content on

With the help of beat sales and self studying methods, I was able to secure my first studio, in
which I produced a few beats that only received a couple dozen views at a time. A few years
later, after constant study, struggle and perseverance, through self doubt and peer pressure, I
was able to become an average producer. I receive over two million views on my youtube
channels and over a million views on my website monthly. People buy my beats to help fund me
for future development. During school, I always receive notifications from. different people
asking for a unique beat or to license one that they took interest in. I fell in love with making
beats and I was ecstatic to find out that there was a career that could further develop my skills.
My love for beats keeps me dedicated to becoming one of the best producers, even if it takes a
long time. This dedication allowed me to not only be committed to my music, but also, to
everything I do. This devotion also caused me to become a tenacious individual that doesn t let any
obstacle interfere with my goals
Being in high school often presented me with many adversities. I was facing peer pressure, the
weird change in environment, and basically every other typical problem a freshman faced. When
I told people about my love for producing beats, many people doubted my skills and tried to kill my
dreams. However, I refused to let go of my passion for making beats and continued to strive for my
goal,

Lack Of Stability In This Boy s Life
I enjoyed the book, This Boy s Life and I found the lack of stability in Jack s life interesting. Jack
and his mother, Rosemary, move around a lot in the book, causing Jack to never really have a
place to call home. In the beginning of the book, Jack and Rosemary are moving from Florida to
Utah to escape Rosemary s ex husband, Roy. However, Roy follows them to Utah, so Jack and
Rosemary move to Seattle. Then, Rosemary meets Dwight and eventually decides to marry
him. This leads to her and Jack moving to Chinook with Dwight and his children. At the end of
the book, Jack moves to California for the summer to live with his father and brother. After the
summer, he starts prep school at Hill in Washington D.C. Here he gets kicked out his senior year
and then decides to join the army. Each time Jack moves, he wants to start a better life for
himself, but is never able to accomplish this task. I think that the lack of stability in his life, from
moving all the time, is the main reason he cannot change his life around. I believe that adolescents
need emotional support in their lives. Many adolescents get this support from their parents.
However, not all adolescents can talk to their parents about issues they are having. For example,
Jack cannot talk to Dwight because he is abusive and would not listen. He cannot go to his father
because he abandoned Jack when he was young. Jack does not even feel comfortable talking to his
mother because he does not want to burden her with his

Similarities Between Devon And Princeton University
The design and traditions of schools differ greatly around the world. Devon is a fictional school in
rural New Hampshire, during World War II, particularly 1942 1943. There are many qualities that
appear in Devon School. However, there are many qualities that appear in Princeton High School as
well. There are many similarities and differences between the two schools, Devon and Princeton.
Both of the schools have student bodies, faculty, academic courses, buildings and grounds, and
attitudes towards sports, that are all comparable and contrastable. Therefore, the schools have
similarities, but the differences from one another are what make them unique. The student body is a
large part of what gives both Devon and Princeton High schooltheir character. Devon s... Show

Devon s buildings and grounds are like an archipelago. The design of Devon consists of many
different buildings that are all connected by sidewalks. The buildings at Devon contain basic
necessities for a school, for example The gym was at the other end of the school, a quarter of a
mile away at least,.. (104). In addition, Devon s campus contained the Far Common, First
Academy Building, Center Common, and Field House. Devon also has woods and rivers near its
location, due to its rural position. However, Princeton High School s buildings and grounds consist
of one large building, and one workshop. All of the classes that Devon acquired, and more, are all
contained in the two buildings at Princeton. Similarly, Princeton and Devon both contain playing
fields and tennis courts.
Devon and Princeton High School both have a particular attitude towards sports. Essentially,
Devon doesn t have many choices for athletics, that s why they make up their own. For example,
in A Separate Peace, Now this, you see, is everything in the world you need for sports. When they
discovered the circle they created sports. As for this thing (28).

Advantages Of Crowdfunding
Crowdfunding and the gaming industry
The video games have been marked with a considerable advancement since its first introduction in
1970s. Emergence of the modern technology and social networks has enabled games to expand and
explore new means and forms of its application (http://www.statista.com/topics/868/video games/ ).
The crowdfunding has gained a lot of popularity over the years, especially in the gaming
community. Not only is the industry perceived as one of the most innovative and forward looking
categories, it also connects people with a specific mind set and an excessive enthusiasm towards it.
Moreover, this community has a common interest which is closely linked with a technological

Just as other campaigns, games benefit from the same advantages of crowdfunding. There are in
particular three major reasons, why is crowdfunding useful for this industry. Firstly, the fact that
crowdfunding enables the funders to considerably lower their costs is one of the main luring
factors. It is a matter of fact that a development of games is a very expensive business. Moreover,
since the gaming industry has evolved and grown over the time, so has done the customersВґ
expectations. The extent and complexity of their demands has escalated significantly, resulting in
higher costs of game production (http://www.crowdsourcing.org/editorial/the rise of crowdfunding
and crowdsourcing in the video game sector/52239 ). In fact, the global gaming software
expenditure represents an enormous amount of $51, 13 billion (http://www.statista.com/topics/868
/video games/ ). This had, however, a negative impact as the smaller producers, who could not
afford such expenditures and have been pushed out of the market. Crowdfunding allows these small
ventures to access additional funds and therefore, it helps them to transform their unique ideas into
a reality and launch the products successfully on the

  • 2. Character Of The Glass Menagerie IOP FINAL WORD MY IOP TOPIC IS THE DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE CHARACTERS OF THE PLAY THE GLASS MENAGERIE The Glass Menagerie is a play written by Tennessee Williams the book talks about the hardships faced by the single women and how they care for their children. The play has four characters. Amanda Wingfield is a woman from Mississippi whose husband moved the family to St. Louis and abandoned her and her two children. Laura has been left disabled by disease, and Tom is a would be poet. Amanda s life is a mixture of reality and fantasy; she has struggled to support her children, who are now grown, but she refuses to acknowledge Laura s disability and dreams of a happy married life for her. Each member of the Wingfield family is unable to overcome... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is delicate, fanciful, and somehow old fashioned. So shy that she finds ordinary human relationships almost unbearable, she is totally unequipped for the romantic role in which her mother has cast her. She takes refuge among her glass figurines, the glass menagerie that is the symbol of her fragility and her retreat from reality. Her collection of glass animals gives the play its title .She is extremely shy, even emotionally disturbed, and she wears a brace on her leg which makes her feel evident. Laura is painfully shy, unable to face the world outside of the tiny Wingfield apartment. She spends her time polishing her collection of tiny glass animals, her glass menagerie. Her presence is almost ghostly, and her inability to connect with others outside of her family makes her dependent on Tom and Amanda. She does not work, and she has been unable to complete a typing class because of her nervousness. Although she says she had once liked a boy in high school, she has never had and is unlikely to have any kind of romantic relationship. Because of her apparent physical deformity, she has become sensitive to what people think of her. Her physical condition thus represents her mental distress; she is crippled both physically and mentally. In search of companionship, she builds her own fantasy world with her glass animal friends and with a Victrola and many old records. Laura, however, is more than a prisoner of ... • 3. The Plight Of Women In The 1920 s After the First World War, America entered into a golden age during the 1920s. As American soldiers succeeded during the war, women felt more confident to push for social change at home because the country had economic and political stability (Yalom). Following more than 70 years of women s protests for change, the United StatesCongress and President Woodrow Wilson finally passed the Nineteenth Amendment in 1919. With the right to vote, more women began to work outside of the home in factories (Dumenil 112). Women s new role in the workforce challenged the traditional belief that women belonged at home raising their families. However, women still faced difficulties when joining the workplace, and few women had professional careers despite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the twenties, women made soap at home, but it usually harmed the skin so people refused to bathe frequently (Sivulka, Cleanliness 25 28). Soapmakers had previously only catered to the upper class, but as soldiers returned from the First World War, middle class families bought more luxury goods, like perfumes and soaps (Sivulka, Cleanliness 48). Advertisers had to convince housewives that manufactured soap had better qualities than homemade soap because women refused to let a company produce what they had traditionally made (Sivulka, Cleanliness 48). Advertisers convinced women to purchase soap that had more fragrances and lotions because they could not produce soap with those qualities at home (Sivulka, Cleanliness 48 49). Advertisements for fragrant and beautifying soaps urged women to fit a gendered expectation of beauty and youthfulness that usually represented an upper class status; middle class women wished to imitate the upper class because they thought if they looked wealthy, then they would gain more wealth. In addition, advertising used traditional images to persuade women to work in the house for their families. Soapmakers made specialized soaps for certain purposes, like cleaning, to gain more consumers (Sivulka, Cleanliness 48). In their advertising for these specialized products, soapmakers often used the image of a housewife to appeal to the middle class female audience who bought and used these products (Sivulka, Soap 226 227). With the image of a housewife next to a cleaning product, the target audience understood that only women used the product. Soap advertisements conveyed the message that women belong at home in order to properly care for their families while striving to remain as beautiful as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What about all the pollution that humans have put on the Earth? Why do we live on Earth? We as humans are fully capable of going to other planets. Heck, we have done it, but what about beyond those planets, and beyond the entire universe. What is out there? There is a many number of possibilities. There could be other universes, or maybe there is nothing out there. We don t know. If there are other universes or other dimensions, we might be able to inhabit them. They could have some new element to cure cancer, or simply another fresh water source, but we won t know unless... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are the 10 dimensions of the superstring theory. Evidence of the Multiverse and Multiverse Theories There are 5 main theories on why the multiverse is possible. The first theory is that we don t know the shape of space time. Space time could be flat and stretch on forever causing multiple universes. If this theory is true there would be universes that repeat themselves because atoms can only be put together so many ways (Howell). The second theory is eternal inflation. This states that some areas of space stop inflation, but some continue to get larger, so our universe could be a bubble sitting in a network of bubble universes. In this theory the laws of physics could be different for each universe because they aren t linked (Howell). The third theory is that multiple universes can follow the theory of quantum mechanics, and daughter universes. If you follow the laws of probability it suggests that for every outcome that could come from your decisions there would be a range of universes, each with a different outcome from your decisions (Howell). The fourth theory of the multiverse is that of mathematical universes. This theory suggests that the structure mathematics could change depending on which universe you are in (Howell). The last multiverse theory goes back to the fact that spacetime could be flat. But, the number of possible particle configuration in multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Hamlet Delays In Killing Claudius Essay There are several theories about why Hamlet, the main character of Shakespeare s masterpiece, Hamlet, delays in killing his Uncle, King Claudius. As the son of a murdered noble, Hamlet is obligated to avenge the death of his father. However, the act is never performed until the end of the play... quite some time after Hamlet discovered Claudius was his father s killer. Some historians and literary experts would say Hamlet s strong religious bonds prevented him from performing the sinful deed. Others would have it that Hamlet was a melancholic and therefore was too intellectual to kill his uncle. Infamous psychologist, Sigmund Freud, felt Hamlet suffered from an Oedipal complex and could not kill Claudius because he himself wished to be in Claudius place. Hamlet delays in killing Claudius not only because he s suffering from an Oedipal complex but also because he is far too sane or practical to commit an act of murder. In other words, basic sanity keeps him from killing Claudius. In society we are taught that those who commit murder are sick or insane. However, Hamlet s society believes the son of a murdered noble is responsible for avenging his father. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. How Did King Phillip War Change Over Time King Phillip s War was a conflict that arose in Massachusetts in 1675 and lasted until 1676. It was a war that was fought between the Wampanoag and the English, and the specific reasons for it are always contested. Perceptions of this historical event have been challenged over time. The historiography of King Phillip s war not only shows us how the events changed over time. The events changed over time from being a struggle over land for expansion for the Puritains, as well as power. That, over time evolved to a power struggle and then progressed to the idea that the Native Americans were an barrier in the way of the Puritains land access, wanting to be able to gain more access to land for their growing population size . Religion was also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The English were arriving in large numbers, and as more and more of them came, there was more need for land for them to settle. Another belief that scholars had was that the war was fought over religion and that it was a holy war to gain more followers in the Christian faith, and bring the Native Americans to praying towns. Earlier accounts of the war focus on the first interpretations of the event, which were more ethnocentric based, and these perceptions of the war are put into a box, and are what historians base their research of. Later interpretation from the 1850 s onward until up until the 1960 s led to different interpretations, shaped by society and culture of the 19th century. Now the war was being viewed as a conquest of a civilization, instead of it being fought as a war. This difference in interpretation is due to The English were afraid that the native Americans were a threat to them, because of their ethnocentric views, and the Natives felt that they were being threatened as well, because By the nineteenth century, King Phillip and his war had become romanticized, due to the World War s romanticism. From the 1960 s on, Native Americans were now starting to have a voice in American History, and becoming a part of the historical narrative, which was due to the American Indian ... • 10. Locke And Descartes Argument Analysis Everyone has their own beliefs about where ideas come from and how they are formed. Locke and Descartes both had very different arguments about what the origin of these ideas was. Descartes believed that the origin of ideas stemmed from imagination or reason and that we have been born with all of the knowledgewe need; we just have to come to an experience or age where we will know how to use it. Whereas Locke believed that the origin of ideas came from experience and we have to learn everything we need to know. I agree with both arguments that these philosophers have presented. Being an Education major and being required to study the ways in which children learn and how their brains are formed has helped me see the flaws in their arguments,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But in reality children aren t aware of the sky being blue because they have to learn colors when they go to school for the first time. For instance, it is seen that people in society that don t attend school only know as much as they have seen in life or have experienced. Individuals evolve based on their environment. Furthermore, no one person is born knowing that the sky is blue, all children are supposed to learn colors when they start school or if their parents start working on colors with them before they start school. Descartes to some extent was right about his ideas because we know when children are born they cry because the hospital room is cold. They also cry when they have a full diaper. This proves that infants have a minor sense of communication, even though they may not understand that they are actually calling to their parents for help. So, it can be said that humans are born knowing how to cry as a technique to let their loved ones realize that they are distressed. No one taught them how to cry, babies are just able to come out of the womb with the ability to cry as a temporary substitute until they can learn how to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Ethical Dilemma Of Grand Nursing Theories Grand nursing theories are global in their application to nursing and have been instrumental in developing the science of nursing (McEwen Wills, 2014). Grand nursing theories are abstract and can be applied to many different situations. Because grand nursing theories are broad they can be applied to ethical dilemmas that occur in nursing practice. Ethical dilemmas are a part of the healthcare field and it is important to know how to navigate through the murky waters that dilemmas can present. Nursing theories are a road map that allows nurses and healthcare workers to find the best option to resolve a problem. One of the theories developed was by Virginia Henderson and called the theory of need and is still being applied to nursing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The patient s son accused the nursing staff of mistreating his mother by administering pain medications to frequently which was causing his mother to be overly sedated and would not allow administration of pain medication without his approval first. The son was refusing to accept his mother s condition and assumed his mother would make a miraculous recovery, he was always coming to the hospital in the middle of the night drunk. Because the nursing staff was distressed over the son s refusal to accept his mother s condition, an ethics meeting was convened to decide what was ethically appropriate for the patient. After the meeting, the patient was changed to comfort care and nursing staff was allowed to administer medications as necessary to keep the patient comfortable. The nursing staff updated the son twice a day on his mother s condition and the patient soon passed away with her son at the bedside. Grand Nursing Theory There are many grand nursing theories that could be applied to this ethical dilemma. However, Virginia Henderson recognized death as an option when treatment is no longer an option. Virginia Henderson developed the theory of need. The theory of need defines nursing as assist[ing] the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities that will contribute to health or its recovery (or to a peaceful death) that the person would perform unaided given the necessary strength, will, or knowledge (Henderson, 1997, p. 22). The National Constituent Assembly solved some of Frances short term problems, but caused significant discontent due to its inability to resolve long term problems, that had been destroying France economically, politically and socially. There were some groups of society that were quite content with the reforms of the Constituent Assembly, such as a majority of the bourgeoisie, peasants who gained from the abolition of the Feudal system, and some members of the first and second Estate. In fact, France s financial situation was becoming worse, with prices of bread and flour at an all time high. The Constituent Assembly, eager to solve France s economic problem, brought in a new currency, called the Assignats. Effectively, each Assignat was an ownership right to a piece of land, a kind of collateral from the government. Most of the land had previously been owned by the Church, but was forfeited to the State under the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, an act that proclaimed the Clergy had to swear allegiance to the State, rather than the Pope, and therefore all their property and wages were put under State control. It was one of the most successful reforms, as the new currency stabilised the economy for a critical period of time, and released the pressure that was on France, financially. It was also during this period that the trial by jury system was introduced, a system that still exists today. Twelve citizens were used as a jury to decide on the guilt or innocence of their peers, in a public trial. It was a giant step towards the democratic system of government that is used in the modern world. On August 4 1789, the Declaration of the Rights of Man, was proclaimed. Along the way you might hear a bird singing, feel a rock as you hike a path, taste cold water to replenish your thirst, and see many beautiful sights. The person you are walking with may have a total different experience and sensethings that bring pleasure to them that may not to you. There is an old adage that says Beauty is in the eyeof the beholder. This adage can be debated time and time again. The first things to look at is the definitions of beauty and beholder. The dictionary defines beauty is a combination of qualities that pleases the aesthetic senses ( Beauty ). It doesn t say beauty has to be seen by the eye. Beauty can be combination of our five senses. It can be anything we can see, touch, taste, feel, or smell. The definition of beholder is a person who observes a sense. The adage Beauty is in the eye of the beholder by definition means that each person sees beauty and can find beauty in different things through their senses ( Beholder ). It creates a very subjective approach to beauty. The adage is true because each person is an individual and has different perspectives and way of sensing. The idea that what pleases one person may not please another is true along this case because not everybody has the same preference to beauty. Beauty is subjective and can be seen through personal experience and should give society a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All over the world, although mostly in more developed countries, revolutions and amazing discoveries have been caused by single human beings that are being active about their knowledge. Some people are more passive about their ability to use their higher level thinking skills, though. It is intimidating to think of the power that dominant individuals have had in the past, such as influencing people s thinking and controlling their lives or making significant advancements and saving numerous lives. The song Handlebars by Flobots and Hitler s book, Mein Kampf, both exhibit a sense of power, ability to influence people s thinking, and a lack of self control that lead to the more detrimental path of using one s knowledge and potential. One of Adolf Hitler s main points throughout his book was how Germans are superior to every other race and how Nazi s should be in complete power. He believed that the Aryan race was perfect, and even encouraged women to bear as many children of this race as they could. He even goes to the extent where he describes what the perfect person looks like, which consisted of pale skin, blue eyes, etc. With this, he concluded that Jews and Gypsies were the most racially inferior with full plans to eliminate them. As humans we share a lot of characteristics in common with one another, such as having hands, feet, eyes, nose, gender, ethnic backgrounds and etc. There has to be some characteristic or organ we have that differentiate all of us, and all these features we have in common, and that is our brain. The paintingis oil on panel (75.9 x 60.6 cm) and is exemplary of the early Baroqueperiod. The work depicts at the broadest level the suicide of the early Roman historical figure, Lucretia, following her rape c. 510 BC by Sextus Tarquinius, son of the last Roman king. This image of Lucretia is not that of some mythological or religious origin, say, of a venus, for example, part of whose appeal is the depiction of nudity without social repercussion. With respect to the time which bore this painting, it is not unlikely that this inclination to experiment with the female nude was in part sublimated by means of this historical subject matter, however, so say that Lucretia s nudity is illustrated only on account of what would amount to the privilege of moral impunity is perhaps too simple an explanation. It seems much more reasonable to posit that Lucretia s own nudity, especially in conjunction with her opulent, indeed, what is surely very expensive clothing (other depictions of Lucretia typically omit the inclusion of clothes altogether), is employed by Cleve to highlight Lucretia s shame amid her wealth and regal lifestyle, her clothes have been cleaved open, and she had been irrevocable hurt and humiliated. The Bystander Effect By Bibb Latane And John Darley Overview On March 13, 1964 thirty eight neighbors failed to intervene when a 28 year old woman named Katherine Kitty Genovese was being murdered behind the building. (Manning, Levine, Collins, 2007). This incident proposed the experiment of the Bystander Effect by Bibb LatanГ© and John Darley, among other scientists, to find out why thirty eight people had not done anything to help during this situation (LatanГ© Darley, 1969). According to LatanГ© and Darley (1969), The Bystander Effect has three main explanations behind it, which includes diffusion of responsibility, evaluation apprehension, and pluralistic ignorance (Darley LatanГ©, 1968). Diffusion of responsibility withdraws a person from exhibiting a helping behavior when there are other bystanders present because it is expected that others can contribute to the helping behavior, and that the outcome is not just on one person s shoulders (LatanГ© et al., 2002). On the other hand, when a person imagines that there are no other people present, or that the people present are not able to engage in a helping behavior, a person will act as if he or she was alone and will be more likely to intervene in the situation (Darley, Teger, Lewis, 1973). Before acting during an emergency, a person is most likely to scan around and observe whether others are already taking responsibility, or are about to take responsibility for it; if those people in the scene of an emergency are not doing anything, then the person will feel ... Perhaps Jackson received the best example of this aspect of human nature; she claims that most of the letters she received about the lottery wanted to know where these lotteries were held, and whether they could go there and watch (Friedman 87). People were not shocked into examining their own lives. They wanted to know where they could go see a live stoning. Jackson also gives examples of hypocrisy, which runs rampant in today s society. Tessie is perfectly willing to stone one of her neighbors, but when she is the one who is going to be stoned, she says, It isn t fair, it isn t right (Jackson 868). Likewise, Mr. and Mrs. Adams talk of stopping the lottery, yet when it comes time to stone Tessie, Mr. Adams is leading the pack. The probability of affect transfer depends on its nature (positive or negative), on the intensity of affective reactions and on the way signs are associated to products and organisations. Several authors refer that the name and logo should evoke the same intended set of associations, and communicate one clear message (Durgee and Stuart, 1987; Keller 1993; Kopp et al., 1990; Vartorella, 1990). • 33. The Story Of Ghosts By Henrik Ibsen Duty To Death The story of Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen shows us a multitude of issues, whether the readers think the piece as a basic form of literature or believe that the scripture shows the issues and lies or the fighting facts of injustice in the text. The constant fight between free will and duty in this story triumphs the characters of Mrs. Alving and Pastor Manders as they convene over what they think is right and what they are bound to do, even as the smaller character of Regine slightly deals with the same issue. Duty comes up in repeated cycles throughout the script of Ghosts, and the roles people are bound to in their life relays to the role they act in society. The duty of Mrs. Alving is no soft tale, as we are told of her husband s horrid affairs. The wife and mother of her nature and setting is duty bound to protect her husband s reputation, no matter how unsavory he is, and to sacrifice everything for her son. In return, the son must love his mother. In a way, we question the duty of the mother and ask whether or not it was right of Mrs. Alving to cover her husband s actions from her son, Osvald. Despite Ibsen s opinion of conspiracy, the cover up and how he writes the script as if he supports the hiding and the sacrifice, the reader on their own must make a choice in the matter. For Mrs. Alving to know her motherly duty and protect her son during his young years was a courageous execution for the paths she found available. As said by George Bernard Shawin ... • 36. Gender Aspects Of Gender The way people look at gender has been changing over the past few years. Gender has always been a social topic on what boys should do and what girls should do. Although, with the new generation, I have seen people break the mold of gender stereotypes. Over the years, I have seen many classmates and schools changing the status quo of gender. My generation has a different opinion on gender stereotypes than my grandparents and even my parents. Gender stereotypes are changing with each generation, whether it be through sports or the occupations people have. My Grandparents went to high school in the mid 1950 s and women were not allowed to play many sports back then. My Grandma told me that they thought the girls would get hurt. My grandmother played basketball and they didn t let the girls cross the half court line. They had three girls on each side so that they did not over exert themselves. Nowadays, girls can play almost any sport they want. Hockey is a good example of how girls can play manlier sports. When people think of hockey, they think of it more as a manlier sport, like football. There are so many girls that play hockey with the same intensity as when men play. A good friend of mine, who went to the same middle school as me, played on a travel hockey team. If you saw her, you would never expect her to play hockey. She always wore dresses and has her hair done. She is not your typical hockey playing girl. After seeing her play in a game, my impression of her changed. She was very physical when going after other players with the puck. She would hit other players into the glass now and then. She could handle other players hitting her pretty hard as well. She got rocked by one player and just got back up on her skates and went back into the fray. Now, I believe she is the toughest girl I know. She completely breaks the mold of the small, frail, girl stereotype. Another example of girls playing a manlier sport would be football. They would practice all summer and after school in September for a month. Some of the guys from our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They studied 147 cases of anterograde amnesia with damage to the hippocampus. psychological testing proved that all cases had impaired episodic memory and limitedly impaired semantic. This shows that the hippocampus is responsible for episodic memory. To make the conclusion more reliable, another study was done by Vargha and Khadem, with 3 anterograde amnesic patients, and found the same results, except that the semantic memory was completely intact. They found that semantic memory was localized to the cortices underlying the hippocampus. Another way of studying the differences between the two is by studying retrograde amnesic patients. a retrograde amnesic patient known as KC was studied to find that the damage to his hippocampus impaired his episodic memory, but his semantic memory was still intact.
