Employee Genocide
I did some digging as well and came up with some existing literature on the subject of employee
sabotage. Although sabotage can inflict serious damage, Cole and Ring (2005) believe it can be easily
prevented if one is cognizant of the warning signs. Employee termination is one of the main causes for
retaliation against the corporation. In many of the cases, the retaliation is against one particular
individual the main motive being revenge. Key findings from a 2005 survey found that the majority of
sabotage attacks were accomplished through use of the company computer equipment (Cole Ring,
2005). In particular, the attacks were accomplished by working remotely, during outside working
hours through backdoor hacks and compromised accounts.

Gang Violence in Society Essay
What Should Be Done About Gang Violence In Society?
Many people in our society do not think that anything bad will ever happen to them. These people
always hear about the issues and problems that are in the world today, but never think they will take
place close to home. Gang violence is a major problem in our society today that takes place in many
different areas of the world. If nothing is done soon, gang violence could take place in our
neighborhoods. Gang violence is a big problem in our society today. MW Klein, a gang researcher,
says that gangs are an aggregation of youths who perceive themselves as distinct, and that are viewed
as distinct by the community. Klein also states that the gangs call forth a consistently ... Show more

Movies can have a negative effect on youth (Synder). Movies and other media may serve as control
systems for the working through of psychological and social conflicts. Many of the youthful audiences
may experience and carry out their inner conflicts, desires, and fears, within the managed forms of the
motion picture (Synder). Robert K. Ressler, a criminologist, explains that some families act as if they
are in another world and their behaviors unfold independent of the quality of neighborhoods, poverty,
class, relations, crime, or any other factor. Poor family socialization is the final cause of criminality
(Singer). Gangs are a visual symbol of deprived families. They tend to grow in isolation from the
surrounding social world (Singer).John J. Dilulio Jr., a criminologist, states that social factors range
from family life to economic issues, program funding, and cultural changes (Hutson). A problem that
is usually associated with gangs is the use of drugs. Anglin Hutson of Nation s Cities Weekly, stated
that drug, gang connection is often cited, but many researchers believe this activity is overstated. Most
street gangs are not efficient or sophisticated drug distributions (Klein). Klein goes on to say that
members of gangs are normally arrested for crimes such as burglary, assault, fighting, vandalism,
homicide, and extortion. There has been a link from recent evidence between inner city gang members
and drug traffic, states Professor Dr.

Ancient Greek Forms Of Government
Ancient Greece experienced many forms of government during its lifespan. The different cities, that
composed Ancient Greece, experienced with these forms of governments one after another. Or
sometimes neighbored cities would be ruled differently, by one man or a group of men. Some of the
popular forms of ruling were a monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy and a more widely known
form, democracy. Ancient Greeks proved to us how effective and how long these forms of ruling were
able to last before falling apart. Let s look at each one of them and see how different they are form
each other and what makes them similar. A monarchy is a political system where power is held by
someone called a monarch. Wilde adds: Monarchs usually both hold and achieve their position
through the right of hereditary succession (e.g. they were related, usually the son or daughter, of the
previous monarch) (Wilde, April 2017). Although monarchies might have been popular in different
parts of the world, it wasn t the case in Ancient Greece as Cartwright pointed that out (March, 2013).
There were only two states who qualified as monarchies in Greek. These states were Macedonia and
Epeiros, but the monarch shared the power he had with an assembly (Cartwright, March 2017). One
political system that showed some similarities to a monarchy is an aristocracy. This form of
government is when the best (in ancient Greece s case, aristocrats) rules (Brouwers, June 2015). This
means that only a special

Why Men Are More Talented At Design Than Women
There is no way to accurately measure the success rate of designers based on sex or sexual orientation,
or, somewhat speciously, to examine if men are more talented at design than women. As Valerie
Steele, the chief curator of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, said: There is no gay
gene for creativity.
But circumstantial evidence is making some designers wonder about the disparities. Of the young
American designers most embraced by retailers and celebrated in the fashion press in recent years, the
roll call is almost exclusively male: Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez and Mr. Som as well
as Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Their female contemporaries have
had a harder time breaking through, among them Behnaz Sarafpour, Alice Roi and Ms. Subkoff.
Gay men stick together like a band of brothers, Ms. Subkoff said in an interview. It s more common
for a man to bring up a younger assistant who is male and be proud of that, she added, whereas a
woman would be threatened to promote another woman.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, a trade group that vets those who apply for
membership, is made up of 121 women and 156 men. Since 1986 its annual Perry Ellis awards for
young talent have been given to 8 women and 29 men (20 of them openly gay).
Who s Who in Fashion, a directory published by Fairchild Publications, is split 60 40 in favor of men,
and The Encyclopedia of Clothing and Fashion, published last year

Pros And Cons Of Gun Control Essay
Gun control has been one of the widely debated topics in the United States and all over the world.
Public safety, economics, and the language of the second amendment are parts of the gun control
argument that might be considered. Considering that the topic is whether or not the right to bear arms
should include assault rifles, the definition of an assault rifle needs to be established. According to the
NRA, an assault rifle is, By U.S. Army definition, a selective fire rifle chambered for a cartridge of
intermediate power. If applied to any semi automatic firearm, regardless of its cosmetic similarity to a
true assault rifle, the term is incorrect. The other key term that plays a major role in this subject is the
second amendment. The second amendment states this: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to
the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Public safety tends to be one of the biggest concerns when assault rifles are included in the discussion.
There are pro gun control advocates say that countries such as Australia with no guns have a lower
rate of gun related violence. The people that are against gun control believe quite the opposite and cite
the rate of gun related violence in Chicago as their proof against it. Another argument that supports
gun control is that the injuries that are treated with our tax money, and that this is a waste of money
that could be put towards other beneficial programs for

Animal Rights In Animal Testing
Using animals in research and to test the safety of products has been a topic of heated debate for
decades. According to data collected by F. Barbara Orlans for her book, In the Name of Science:
Issues in Responsible Animal Experimentation, sixty percent of all animals used in testing are used in
biomedical research and product safety testing (62). People have different feelings for animals; many
look upon animals as companions while others view animals as a means for advancing medical
techniques or furthering experimental research. However individuals perceive animals, the fact
remains that animals are being exploited by research facilities and cosmetics companies all across the
country and all around the world. Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, the
pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Therefore,
animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of products. First, animals rights are
violated when they are used in research. Tom Regan, a philosophy professor at North Carolina State
University, states: Animals have a basic moral right to respectful treatment. . . .This inherent value is
not respected when animals are reduced to being mere tools in a scientific experiment (qtd. in Orlans
26). Animals and people are alike in many ways; they both feel, think, behave, and experience pain.
Thus, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. Yet animals rights are violated

Cancer
Cancer is defined as a disease cause by the uncontrolled division of abnormal cells inside a part of the
body. Mutations to specific genes or regions of DNA contribute to the presentation of these abnormal
cells as well as the ability for these cells to divide uncontrollably throughout the body. For many
years, the standard route of treatment for those who have been diagnosed with cancer is to use
chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Although these therapies have been considered to be the standard
of care for cancer treatment for many decades, the toxic side effects that are also associated with these
therapies can be just as devastating as the disease itself. The onset of targeted therapy for the treatment
of cancer has brought on a new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other formulations of TKIs include erlotinib (Tarceva), canertinib, vatalanib, dasatinib, and sorafenib
to name a few. This manuscript will be discussing Imatinib Mesylate in further detail and reviewing
many of the pharmacological and antitumor and anticancer properties of the drug in more detail. The
use and increased acceptance towards targeted cancer therapies is not without its imperfections. As
with any medication or therapy, not every individual is the same and the overall response rates may
change from person to person and from population to population. As more research is done, the
introduction of new inhibitors as well as the improvement of current inhibitors will help to increase
the overall response rate in patients as well as help to increase the ability for patients to receive even
more selective and specific care for their disease.
To gain a better understanding and overall appreciation for the creation and implementation of
targeted therapies, it is important to look at previous standards of care for the treatment of cancers and
tumors. Conventional chemotherapy, when directed in the direction of specific cells in the body, does
not do a very good job at being able to discriminate between normal, healthy dividing cells and
tumorigenic cells. This can lead to many different toxic side effects ranging from fatigue and anemia
to excessive vomiting, hair loss and in some

The Pros And Cons Of Japanese Internment
December 7th, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Army successfully pulled of the surprise attack on Pearl
Harbor. After this attack the government of Canada used the war measures act to remove all Japanese
Canadian citizens that live 160km from the Pacific Coast and put them in internment camps until
1949, four years after WW2. Fast Forward to 1988 and the Canadian government gives an apology to
the Japanese, however the apology was for more than just Japanese Internment it was for the pain and
suffering, discrimination, and for leaving Japanese citizens with nothing.
One of the most justified reasons for the apology would be how the Canadian Government caused the
pain and suffering amongst Japanese Canadians. Firstly, the 22,000 Japanese Canadian citizens and
residents were taken from their homes on Canadas West Coast without any charge or due process and
exiled to remote areas of Eastern British Columbia (Greg Robinson, Internment of Japanese
Canadians). In addition, the RCMP arrested suspected operatives while the Royal Canadian Navy
impounded 1,200 Japanese fishing boats, and to avoid racist backlash Japanese newspapers, as well as
schools were voluntarily shut down. In this time the Japanese population in Canada had been greatly
damaged and families became separated into the internment camps. Moving on, my second point for
further justification is the Labor Camps Japanese Canadians were placed in, further increasing pain
and suffering. Because of the amount of political

in the early stages he was somewhat disliked by some state UMNO leaders at that time because of his
over progressive and predictive thinking time. Among the controversial proposals rejected by UMNO

certain level of education without having to rely solely on their experience in the political field. The
volume of defending the interests of the oppressed people and his courage to take a different opinion

Compare And Contrast The Poisonwood Bible
Contrasting Poisonwood Life isn t black and white and this is a sentiment that the book The
Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver tried to express. The aforementioned book is about an
American family from Georgia, which leaves the comfort of the USA to go to a missionary mission in
the country of Congo, in the town of Kilanga. Throughout the novel, it can be seen how the Congo
either changes or reveals the true personalities of its 5 narrators (Orleanna, Rachel, Leah, Adah and
Ruth May). This can be seen through the use of different motifs, some which even contradict each
other help bring life into this novel by creating complex characters and revealing how true
personalities are in their own way as, state before, life is not black and white, ... Show more content on

This is apparent by the use of the character s perspective about nature and the ultimate result it has
upon them. This is in its most apparent shape when Orleanna says We aimed for no more than to have
dominion over every creature that moved upon the earth... Now you laugh, day and night, while you
gnaw on my bones. But what else could we have thought? Only that it began and ended with us. What
do we know, even now? (Kingsolver 10). This quote by Orleanna about nature, shows the true power
of it regarding the motifs of freedom and captivity. This is seen because of the fact that there is a
progression and a change of thought that quickly evolves from the family and her thinking that they
had the freedom to have dominion over nature, to she surrendering to nature and saying that she is
captive forever because of nature that nature instead of being loving, betrayed her and is now seeking
for the forgiveness of it. Another way this is seen it when Leah said Its heavenly paradise in the
Congo, and sometimes I want to live here forever, (104). This extract from the novel at first glance
may not seem like an important passage, but it is considering the fact that she feels that she has the
motifs of freedom and love at her grasp as she feels free in the Congo and loves it. This ultimately will
not last as their contrasting motifs will eventually kick in making her a prisoner of the Congo by her
own merits keeping her captive in there for the rest of her life, while also betraying her because the
land and the nature inside it made her lose her little sister. Finally, this connects to the thesis and the
other paragraphs because of the fact that it shows this hope versus reality situation which is created
when these motifs are combined, furthermore it shows the colorfulness of life in the book because of
the fact that it shows the way

Farmers are facing a decreasing income, in 2003 farmers had a yearly income of 123.8 billion but in
2016 their income has been reduced to 71.5 billion (Rooney Income Inequality Hurts Economic
Growth ). The declining incomes of farmers has lead to farmers spending less on seeds, fertilizers and
pesticides, which in turn hurts the sales of these large companies. Companies like Monsanto, look at
the mergers as a way to staunch the bleeding from their lost profits, boost their market shares/growth,
and try to smother any new competition (Plumer). This merger will allow the wealth inequality to
grow because the richest 20% are receiving 25 30 times as much income as the bottom 20% (Sackery,
175). Monsanto and Bayer will keep the profits that they make from what the farmers buy, not
inventing it back into the economy to help reduce this cyclic process of growing wealth inequality.
This trend of a growing wealth gap is leading to the end of the American dream; people are unable to
move up the economic ladder. The richest one percent now controls more than half of the world s
wealth and this is ultimately undermining global economic growth. Much of the labor force cannot
afford to get an education, which in turn limits their social mobility

After all, those of us who have put in many years in the workforce are probably used to being the

Evolutionary Game Theory ( Egt )
Evolutionary Game Theory (EGT) is a new field of study that combines the principles of game theory,
biology, evolution and non linear dynamics. Unlike game theory that studies and analyzes a rational
behavior based on the actions of others, evolutionary game theory analysis is based on settings in
which an individual is mainly not reasonable and even something cannot explicitly make decisions.
An individual is given a strategy rather than choosing it. EGT will then present which forms of
behaviors will persist in the population and which will be driven out.
John Maynard Smith and G. R. Price first expressed the idea of evolutionary game theory to explain
biological phenomena by observing the fitness of an organism based on the ... Show more content on

Members of the populations will play against each other randomly. A group of individuals belonging
to the same sub population that performs the best would grow and the others will shrink. This
performance will be repeated indefinitely. Ideally, the evolution will lead to an idea of a stable state

The idea of Nash Equilibrium in EGT is represented by an evolutionary stable strategy (ESS). If the
evolution of a population converges to this stable state, then it will remain there. Given a whole
population using strategy S that is evolutionarily stable, any small group of invaders using a different
strategy T will eventually shrink and fade over multiple generations. This group of invaders will have
strictly lower fitness than the initial population. In order for S to be evolutionarily stable, the payoff to
using this strategy S against the same strategy S played by others must be at least as large as the

The Between Russia And Brandenburg Prussia
L état, c est moi. I am the state, as quoted by Louis XIV. This is a great example of the meaning of
absolutism. The kingdoms of France, Russia and Brandenburg Prussia are ample evidence to prove
that absolutism worked and was a commonality compared to constitutionalism. This issue then falls to
whether the differences or the similarities of these kingdoms are more important in European and
World History. The following will provide an argument to support that the similarities of the kingdoms
should be more heavily stressed.
France was set up for absolute monarchy by King Henry IV. Henry s ambitions neutralized the clash
between Catholics and Protestants, in the Edict of Nantes. Before Henry s assassination, he had
created a financial surplus in the kingdom. Next in line for the throne was Louis XIII, Henry s son, but
he was too young to rule, so Cardinal Richelieu had control over the kingdom. He limited the political
privileges of the Huguenots and involved France in the Thirty Years War, and by doing this he
affirmed the royal power and engaged France more in European affairs.
After Richelieu s death, Louis XIII died and, his son, Louis XIV, who was five years old, inherited the
throne. When Louis turned 23 he stepped forward to claim the throne, believing that God had given
him the position of King of France. The Sun King, as Louis was called, surrounded himself with the
nobles to keep them from governing their districts as effectively and thus empowering himself.

The Doctrine Of Jesus Christ
Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand,
and will not give unto him of my food that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just...whosoever
doeth this the same hath great cause to repent (The Book of Mormon Mosiah 4:16). This progressive
quote promotes social welfare and an idea of charity and love that many mainstream Republicans
today do not support. Believe it or not, this is not a statement recently made on some left wing
political talk show, this is directly from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This same message is echoed
throughout all the books of scripture. The doctrine of Jesus Christ teaches the principles of
compassion, equality, forgiveness, tolerance, and most importantly love; the political ideology that
sides with these ideals is on the left. Stephen Colbert said, If this is going to be a Christian nation that
doesn t help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we ve got to
acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then
admit that we just don t want to do it. The teachings of Jesus Christ do not contradict liberal beliefs,
therefore we, as His disciples, should be more open to non conservative political ideals. For I was an
hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me
in (King James Version Matthew 25:35). This verse emphasizes one of Christ s

The Western Front And Storm Of Steel
All Quite on the Western Front and Storm of Steel are two of many influential pieces of literature that
reflect World War one from a German point of view. It is important to note that All Quite on the
Western Front is a work of fiction that is based on the events of the war, Were as Storm of Steel is
memoir that is based on the events of Ernst Junger on the western front. Junger is criticized that he
takes a positive stance on the war, were as Erich Remarque s novel tries to show the reality behind the
war. The two authors believed the Great war had effects on those who fought in it through the
influence of their perception of the war and how new technology had changed the way it is
understood. The psychological implications on the soldiers were a direct link between survival,
technology and their rural life style. This phenomenon can be seen in both Remarque and Jungar s
works. The memoir describes Junger experiences without restraint which results in a graphic book.
However, he constantly attempts to convey a position of noble courage in himself and his fellow
soldiers, even when Junger experiences situations of true horror. An Example of this can be seen when
he is marching into the Battle of the Somme, he seems more concerned with a clear description of the
events rather than reacting to it. In certain situations it almost seems that he was relying only on his
extinct rather than clearly processing what was happening. This was due to the constant exposure of
enemy

Lab Report Preparing Esters

Preparing Esters
Introduction:
In chemistry, an ester is an organic compound that contains a carboxyl group in which carbon is
double bonded to one oxygen atom and single bonded to another.(Clancy). The main types of organic
reaction that occur are Addition, Elimination, Substitution, Condensation, Esterification, Hydrolysis,
Oxidation, Reduction and Combustion reactions. Throughout this experiment, one will observe the
changes of how an esterification reaction takes place using different substances to form an ester. Esters
are formed when a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol resulting in an esterification reaction.
(Clancy). The most common way of making an ester, R OH + R COOH  R COO R + H2O. The OH
from the alcohol reacts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the preparation of Ethanoic acid with Ethanol, 1mL of Ethanol was first placed into a 50mL empty
beaker and the odour and properties were observed. The Ethanol was a clear colourless liquid that
smelt similar to a permanent marker. In daily life, Ethanol is used in alcohol drinks such as different
types of liquors, it s a solvent for paint, and is one of the important tools to get rid of air pollution
from automobiles due to the fact that there is 35% oxygen in Ethanol, and the addition of oxygen to
fuels accomplishes complete combustion, thus, minimizing harmful emissions. (Mueller).
Nonetheless, Ethanol is miscible in water and could be biodegraded. (Mueller). The next step to the
process was to add 1mL of Ethanoic acid into Ethanol. Ethanoic acid into Ethanol smelled similar to
vinegar and the smell got stronger than Ethanol placed in a beaker. Once the Ethanoic acid and
Ethanol were mixed and heated in the presence of Sulfuric acid, an esterification reaction was taking
place. The odour was stronger allowing detailed observations of the ester formed. The first ester
formed was Ethyl Ethanoate. The reaction was slow, and a lot of Ethyl Ethanoate was not produced.
Consequently, the smell was disguised due to the smell of the Ethanoic acid. (Clark). However, the
mixture was squeezed from the pipette onto a watch glass and mixed with droplets of water

Futility In Aylmer s Irony

birthmark on her left cheek, shaped like a tiny pink hand To a Practised Touch : Miles Coverdale and
Hawthorne s Irony, (American Transcendental Quarterly 14.1 [2000]: 27 46). However, Her husband
Aylmer prizes her in marriage, he becomes, after their marriage, obsessed with the idea of fixing that
blemish and providing her absolutely perfect. Aylmer prepares a portion for Georgiana in order to
remove the birthmark and release her from the hand that clenched tighter on her cheek. Fitzpatrick
argues, If we alter the question slightly, what is the story about? We might answer: Aylmer s hatred of

Yet, A Reading Of Deleuze’S Concept Of ‘Becomings’ Enable
Yet, a reading of Deleuze s concept of becomings enable to approach the transitions from girl to
woman as discontinuous. Opposed to a measured linear unfolding and the idea of moving forward
evolution, it ought to capture the movement and doing of subjectivity as always in process. The
movement is thus rhizomatic, separated in multiple directions, thus divorcing the established idea of
linear transition. Feminine adolescence is not a transition from one state to another but a contingent
and in some senses reversible movement. Becomings therefore disrupt the public imagined
temporality which consider the innocent girl to slowly transform into an experienced sexual woman. It
also conceptualized these anti linear and sometimes queer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time, the young female leans between two polarized state: maturity and innocence. She
experiences biological changes, inducing the maturation of her body with notably the swelling of hips
and breast. This inevitable natural episode induces girls to prevailing female representation as she
enters the stage of to be looked at ness . On the other hand, despite their womanly body, for their
young age, the girls remain childlike minded which promises the men dominancy to remain
unchallenged (American Girl 1999, Lolita). However, this liminality, innocence and experience,
endangers the stability of the established patriarchal structure. This figure simultaneously intrigues

American teen girl narratives (Lolita, American Girl). Tomboy as a threat but rather seem to blurry the

Folk Music Influence On American Culture
There are many things that influence cultures around the world, some of these things being big and
some of these things being small. One of the largest impacts on cultures would be music and poetry. It
seems that these two things, more than anything else, tie people together and give them common
grounds (Earhart). These two things not only have the power to tie people together but they also have
the ability to tear them apart. For example music has influenced the way people dress, act, and even
talk (Syncrat).
A great example in American history of how music has influenced a culture would be the rise of folk
music during the 20th century. Among other things The Civil Rights Movement was in full swing and
the largely unpopular war in Vietnam was well underway ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Folk music was also known as music for the masses due to the fact that so many people were involved
in the making and listening to it. When the culture became aware of the negativity around them and
the radical changes that necessary it gave the common folk a need for expression. Music was not
being used for the first time not only a vehicle for expression, but also as s way to mobilize and inspire
the listeners to think differently and take action to change their conditions (Music s Effects on People
and Culture).
There were certain songs that became like anthems for particular generations. Examples of this would
be Bob Dylan s Blowin in the Wind which talks about finding answers to questions, another would be
John Lennon s Imagine which talks about imagining a world without all the negative things where
people love each other instead of hate on another. There were songs that brought together countries in
times of national crisis such as God Bless America. These songs created a sense that people can relate

Counter Terrorism Alternatives
In today s day and age, the fear of terrorism is not only a common sentiment, but is also a rising
subject of debate. In order to keep troops out of harm s way, the United States has looked for alternate
means of combatting terrorist organizations. Since September 11, 2001 the United States has relied
heavily on its men and women in uniform to prevent terrorism abroad. Technology of today and the
use of intelligence offer the United States alternate means of addressing terrorism. For instance, drone
strikes were called by former US CIA director Leon Panetta, the only game in town in term of
confronting or trying to disrupt the Al Qaeda leadership (ODLE, 2013). With the use of typology,
socioeconomic assistance, drones, diplomatic engagement and enhanced airline security services, the
use of military force is not the only way to prevent terrorism.
If our country wants to never send another son or daughter to war then we must first understand who
the terrorists are. Former President George Bush said we fight against poverty because hope is an
answer to terror (Lee 2011). On the other hand, there are studies that say the opposite, that terrorism is
not related to poverty. Poverty and education are very important factors of what violence occurs. The
lower the poverty and education the increased chances for violence.

How Does Orangutans Affect Human Behavior
Orangutans are the world s largest arboreal mammal. The adults can get very big in size; some of them

orange. Those are some of the rare colors you will see in orangutans; the most common hair color for
an orangutan is reddish orange. Their physical appearance is almost looking at a human being who is

or societal standards, often leading to unhealthy insecurities, mental and emotional instabilities, and

The protagonist in Black Swan, prima ballerina Nina Sayers, faces a similar ignition to her mental
instabilities through the pressures of society. In this case, Nina is naturally a perfectionist who tries to
strive in the highly competitive ballet industry, which takes a huge toll on her physically, mentally, and

Martin Luther King Principles Essay
Principles prompt activity, impel motion, direct choices. A principled person always has a place to
stand, knows where he or she is coming from and likely to end up. Principles always lead the person
who possesses them somewhere, for some purpose, to do something (Byron). Principles serve as the
foundation for a system or belief. To most people, it makes sense that a religion would have a set of
principle beliefs; much less often, however, are the principles of an individual acknowledged
Martin Luther King Jr. was a prime example of an individual whose strong principle foundation gave
him the means to stand up for his beliefs. Within King s writing, Letter from Birmingham Jail, he
makes a blanket claim of his stance by stating, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. Injustice
anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Simply put, King stands for justice. His principle belief
that every person no matter their race deserve equal access to means propels him to take action. He
realized that there were consequences for his belief particularly jail. Despite knowing this was where
he would undoubtedly end up, he stood behind his belief that humans of all races deserved to feel
dignified and accepted in society, as well as have equal opportunities for voice and action

Development and Analysis of Two Mini Case Studies This is a SWOT analysis of Target Corporation

Target SWOT Analysis Target is a mass merchandising store based out of Roseville, Minnesota and
founded in 1962. Almost 50 years later, Target is still going strong. They have always been in direct
competition with the world s largest retailer, Wal Mart, and are still in business which is quite

This way people would shop more to get more points on their cards and would not worry so much
about the high prices. This would take away from the fact that it is more expensive than Wal Mart
(2009 Watts).
Threats: There are a few competitors that could be a threat to Target. I think the number one is Wal
Mart. Despite the fact that they are the number one retailer in the world, they also have very low
prices. Kmart also proves a threat to Target just because they are beginning to focus more on design as
well by calling in designer Vera Wang to make a line called Simply Vera (2009 Watts).
Targets Strategy
The Target Company uses many different strategies; it all depends on what team you are working for.
The Target team wants to remain the industry leader and helps us define a path for every stage of our
growth. Roles include everything from consulting projects on complex business problems to planning
new processes and systems for specific tasks. The mission of organizational performance
improvement (OPI) is to drive Target s success by elevating the capabilities of team members and
solving complex business problems of high impact. OPI helps Target define, plan and lead impactful
change. The team executes this mission by offering training, consulting, initiative planning and project

Literature Review On HIV
Literature review The emergence of drug resistant strains of human immunodeficiency virus( HIV)
and treatment failure can result from non adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). (Michel
Morin;2000) Non adherences to medication is widespread among patients (Margaret A. Chesney;
2000).An estimated average rate of patient that non adhere to the antiretroviral (ARV) treatment
therapy ranges from about 50 70%( Margaret A. Chesney; 2000) HIV becomes drug resistance when
the ARV treatments are not adhered to. Once the patient has taken their antiretroviral (ARVs)
medication then stops the HIV is able to replicate and will do so at a rapid rate. As a result mutations
are very common (Jen Gorgan and Ruth Suter;2009) There can be one or more mutations that might
block the working of the ARVS making them less effected or even completely ineffective. i.e. the
virus will become resistant to any of the drugs and multiply. (Jen Gorgan and Ruth Suter;2009) There
are many factors as to why patients do not adhere to their ARV treatment. The main factors for non
adherence would appear to be patient related, this would include patients that are alcohol and
substance abusers. However there are many other reasons, that could contribute, such as inconvenient
dosing frequency, dietary restrictions, pill burden, side effects, area which the patient is located and
patient health care provider relationships; and the system of care (Margaret A. Chesney; 2000) this
factors/reasons mentioned above can be improved by clarifying treatment plans and perhaps be able to
work around the patient schedule or lifestyle also the patient and their loved ones should be educated
in order to understand the risks and for the to create a financial plan. Medical centers/clinics should
also have support groups for the patients and should distribute pamphlets (like the ones that have
added been provided by ICAS) There are HIV related stigmas and discriminations that refer to the
prejudice, abuse and negativity that is shown towards people living HIV and aids.in many countries

Romeo And Juliet Pen Names Analysis
What s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet, wrote William
Shakespeare in his play, Romeo and Juliet. Delving into this concept, if names don t affect the quality
of their works, why would authors use pseudonyms instead of their real names? There are several
cases, from Charlotte Brontë to Stephen King, where authors chose a pen name for their own reasons.
Some needed a fake name to compensate for their social status, some to protect their integrity, or just
to express more of what they do best. Whatever the reason, authors throughout the ages have utilized
the liberty of an alias to their advantage, spewing out ideas onto paper, and publishing volumes that
were bound to make an impact. If we look back on the 19th century, we see masterpieces like Jane
Eyre that dared to shatter the standard of the quintessential Victorian woman, obedient and tucked
away at home. In an article by the National Endowment for the Humanities, Charlotte Brontë, the
author of Jane Eyre, was described as dissatisfied by a culture that ... Show more content on

Theme Of Friendship In Of Mice And Men
The Importance of Friendship in Of Mice and Men
Friendship is pointless. No matter what these relationships end in either tragedy or heartbreak, but
without them we are motiveless. Throughout the story of Of Mice and Men lots of relationships are
lost and lots are made, showing that although purposeless, we still need these friendships. In his novel
Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck uses indirect characterization to reveal how we as humans are
always in need of a companion for without them you will be lonesome and purposeless, but these
companionships prove to be fragile and you are prone to losing them.
Before any of the present events of the story took place Lennie was living with his Aunt Clara, but
began to travel with George once she died because without him he would have no purpose and live a
lonely existence. Lennie no longer had a mentor by his side, so he had no idea what to do in any
situation. George remembers when talking to Slim that: I turns to Lennie and says, Jump in. An he
jumps. Couldn t swim a stroke. He d*mn near drowned before we could get him. An he was so d*mn
nice to me for pullin him out. Clean forgot I told him to jump in. (Steinbeck 40)
This shows how Lennie was purposeless without anyone to tell him what to do. When George told
him to jump in the river, he immediately does, ignoring the fact that he had no idea how to swim. The
way George reveals this with the simple An he jumps puts emphasis on the way Lennie jumped. The

Many authors use their work to express their thoughts about the flaws in the societies in which they
live. Lu Xun masks his criticisms of the once feudal society in China in his story, A Madman s Diary,
by comparing the feudalistic society to cannibalism. The story begins with the narrator going to visit
two brothers. Upon arrival, the narrator learns that the younger of the two brothers has recently been
cured of madness, and moved away. The older sibling offers the narrator his brother s diary for the
narrator to read. After the narrator s explanation of how he got the madman s diary, the rest of the

In A Madman s Diary, the madman is the only one who is truly in touch with reality. He is the only
one who is seeing the true cannibalistic nature of the feudal system. The metaphor between
cannibalism and feudalism is meant to convey to the readers the flaws of the feudal system without Lu
Xun directly criticizing the system. Even though the madman is currently terrified of the society he is
living in, he shows hope for a better future. In the last diary entry, he ponders the possibility of the
nature of this society changing. He questions whether or not there are children who have not
consumed other people. He says that the children need to be saved from the nature of this society of
consuming other people to live. This represents Lu Xun s belief that the feudalistic society can change
if the ways of that society are not taught to the children and that he has hope for the future of society.
...The narrator cultivates and maintains the courage to hope that the future for the children of China
will be separate from the past (Laws 51). Lu Xun conveys a sense of hope for a better future in China
through the madman s hope in the story. The madman is the only one who is truly aware of the
problems of the society that they live in. Everyone else around him simply seems to accept the ways
of life. Metaphorically, this is representative of how normal people are blind to the problems of the
feudal system, and that it would take a madman to see the issues behind how they are living. Lu Xun
uses the madman s fear of cannibalism in society to convey to readers his own fear of

The Poor Laws And The Problems Of The Old Poor Law
According to the University of York Social Policy is the Study of the causes of social problems and
what Governments attempt to do about them. The Poor Law that was introduced in 1834 was a Law
that was put in place to support the poor. The law was introduced because it was getting increasingly
expensive to look after the poor so parliament introduced it in hopes it would diminish the cost of
looking after the poor and to get the poor out of the streets and into workhouses. Parliament promised
that this new law was to give the poor Clothes, free education, food and a place to stay.
The Poor Law was introduced because it was too much money to pay to look after the poor, so in
hopes to take the poor off the streets and to stop money going to the poor the government introduced
the law in 1834. The law was also put in place to embolden the poor to get back into work and support
themselves, There was a law before 1834 called the Old Poor Law this was found to be insufficient
because there was nothing in place to help the poor because even though they set up workhouses for
the poor they didn t offer accommodation for the poor. There was an act passed in 1795 called The
Speenhamland System which allowed employers to pay their workers exceptionally low wages during
these years the middle and the upper classes were getting more angry because they were the ones
paying for the poor who would avoid not going to or do any work.

far from it actually. In the poem the White Man s Burden, Kipling portrays the Burden as having to
civilize the uncultured heathens of Africa. The family in The Poisonwood Bible have this particular
burden. However, the family is divided on how they think about this so called burden . These two
works of literature go together like peanut butter and jelly. They walk hand in hand to expose the
downfalls of colonialism and superiority. The Poisonwood Bible has a family that is sent to the Congo
to help the Congolese people by introducing them to the Christian faith. In The White Man s Burden,
it talks of civilizing the uncivilized or changing them. Just as the Price family is doing to the
Congolese people. However the question remains. Is it the family s job to civilize these people? Well,
many believe not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It tells of the greatness and the pride that comes with fulfilling this task of civilizing people, but there
is a sense of mock in the wording of it. Both of these works of literature express the downside of this.
While reading The Poisonwood Bible the reader feels an almost awkward feeling when Nathan is
angry with Anatole or when the Congolese finally stand up to Nathan. The reader gets the feeling that
Nathan should back off. Even the family of Nathan feels odd in the moment while Nathan himself is
like a cobra ready to strike. This is a perfect example of how the family is split over how they should

Swing Vote
FRP: Swing Vote
Introduction:
A swing vote is a particular vote which may affect any candidate in an election. Such votes are usually
sought after in elections, since they have such a large role in the outcome. Swing Vote is the actual
name of the movie we chose to write about since it pertains to much of what we have discussed in
class, such as how citizens have the right to vote. This movie also has the media itself come alive in
mostly every chapter. How it also affects the Electoral College and the battle between conservatives
and liberals, and of course presidential election nominees.
Film Summary: Swing Vote is about a story of an election that takes place in New Mexico. The main
character Bud Johnson who is played by Kevin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also explains how different news stations may have certain agendas which might help increase a
vote for a specific candidate and others which are vice versa. In the movie the media shined upon
everything that was going on. The dilemma between one man choosing the fate of the election allowed
for great news coverage. Once news spread about where the main character lived, it was all over the
news. The main character could not even look out his window without having a reporter take a picture
of him. Every movement he made was being watched from every corner, allowing for every news
station to report whatever they assumed he was thinking about or doing. Certain news stations made
him seem very incompetent while others used it more for ratings. Throughout the entire movie the
media was relentlessly accusing the main character without hesitation.
Concept 3: Electoral College According to the National Archives and Records Administration, the
Electoral College is a process of the United States Constitution. It was established by the founding
fathers as a compromise between election of the president by Congress and election by popular vote. It
also states that each state is allocated a number of electors equal to the number of its United States
Senators, which is always two,

History of the Battle of Queenston Heights
Battle of Queenston Heights Introduction The War of 1812 is among the most obscure wars in
American history, according to journalist Donald Hickey, writing in the Public Broadcast Service.
That is because most Americans have no idea what the fighting was about or who the U.S. was
battling against. The lack of familiarity with the War of 1812 is likely true, Hickey explains, because
the president at the time, James Madison, was hardly in the same league as Abraham Lincoln or
Franklin Roosevelt. And there was no great general like Washington or Eisenhower to rally the
American troops to victory. Moreover, the cause of this war is complex and not well understood.
Meanwhile the reasons behind the War of 1812 involved Free Trade and Sailor s Rights, which really
relates to England s attempt to block American trading ships from Europe. It also pertains in history to
the rude practice of the English of removing American seamen from U.S. merchant vessels. Hence,
Hickey makes the point that in hindsight this war prosecuted by American troops invading Canada
was fought (and lost) in an effort to secure maritime rights far, far away from the battlefield. The
Battle of Queenston Heights in the War of 1812 When the war broke out in June of 1812, the
American forces began preparing for the invasion of Canada but things did not go well at the outset.
That is, by August, Brigadier General William Hull was forced to surrender Detroit to British Major
General Isaac Brock (Hickman,

The Theory Of Democratic Peace
The Theory of Democratic Peace has been a topic of much debate over the years. Why is this? There
are many opinions on this theory and many questions are raised when speaking about it. The argument
that I pose is, is there such a thing as democratic peace? In order to address my argument and in order
to critically analyse Democratic Peace Theory, this piece of academic writing will look at a variety of
causes that some theorists state are behind the Democratic Peace Theory and will look at the different
branches of the theory. Firstly it will look at what ideology the theory can be drawn from and how the
two can link together to prove that democratic peace can exist. Secondly it will look at if the theory
has helped the spreading of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, this theory makes the assumption that if there is a war between two countries, it will be
between one that is democratic and one that is not. There has been some evidence that no two
democratic countries have ever been to war, if we are talking about war in the sense of military action
(Griffiths et al., 2008). For example, 353 pairs of states engaged in wars between 1816 1991 and none
was between two democracies: 155 pairs involved a democracy and a non democratic country, and
198 involved two non democratic states fighting each other (Griffiths et al., 2008). A reason for why
democratic peace theorists stress that democratic states fight with only non democratic states is due to
the reason that, they may be dangerous because they seek other ends, such as conquest or plunder
(Owen 1994). When did the theory originate? Democratic Peace Theory, as it came to be known,
emerged as a robust research programme in the post Cold War years (Daddow, 2013). According to
Rosato (2003), the theory is probably the most powerful liberal contribution to the debate on the
causes of war and peace (p.585)
Now let s talk about the ideology that the theory can be drawn from and let s see how the ideology and
the theory can be linked together to help prove that some sort of democratic peace can and does exist.
Liberalism, an ideology that focuses mainly on the individual, but has other key features such

Gender Imbalance Of Computer Science
Gender Imbalance in Computer Science
Introduction
In past many generations, men and women had distinct roles. In ancient times, the stereotype of a
woman was working as a housewife, taking care of children and doing housekeeping jobs, while man
were responsible for hunting or farming. As human civilization goes on, woman are no longer
restricted in household routines and have been widely accepted as an indispensable source of labor
force in a variety of occupations. However disparity of career preference between male and female are
fairly pronounced, particular in computer science. An undeniable fact is that employees of tech
companies that are typically related to computer science in Silicon Valley are overwhelming male. 17
percent of Google tech workers are women, according to the diversity data released by Google itself
(Diversity at Google, 2014). In 2014, female tech workers make up 15 percent of Facebook s
workforce (Constine, 2014). Also in 2014, Yahoo reports ratio of female technical workers is 15
percent and Twitter reports only 10 percent of technical workforce is female (CNNMoney, 2014).
According to an evaluation published in 2014 by Anita Borg Institute for women and technology,
average ratio for female workers in bay area is approximate 20 percent (Weise, 2014). We can trace
the gender imbalance in workplace back to the shortage of female computer science students in
college. It is not a new topic that women are scarce in science and engineering

  • 2. Employee Genocide I did some digging as well and came up with some existing literature on the subject of employee sabotage. Although sabotage can inflict serious damage, Cole and Ring (2005) believe it can be easily prevented if one is cognizant of the warning signs. Employee termination is one of the main causes for retaliation against the corporation. In many of the cases, the retaliation is against one particular individual the main motive being revenge. Key findings from a 2005 survey found that the majority of sabotage attacks were accomplished through use of the company computer equipment (Cole Ring, 2005). In particular, the attacks were accomplished by working remotely, during outside working hours through backdoor hacks and compromised accounts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Gang Violence in Society Essay What Should Be Done About Gang Violence In Society? Many people in our society do not think that anything bad will ever happen to them. These people always hear about the issues and problems that are in the world today, but never think they will take place close to home. Gang violence is a major problem in our society today that takes place in many different areas of the world. If nothing is done soon, gang violence could take place in our neighborhoods. Movies and other media may serve as control systems for the working through of psychological and social conflicts. Many of the youthful audiences may experience and carry out their inner conflicts, desires, and fears, within the managed forms of the motion picture (Synder). Robert K. Ressler, a criminologist, explains that some families act as if they are in another world and their behaviors unfold independent of the quality of neighborhoods, poverty, class, relations, crime, or any other factor. Poor family socialization is the final cause of criminality (Singer). Gangs are a visual symbol of deprived families. They tend to grow in isolation from the surrounding social world (Singer).John J. A problem that is usually associated with gangs is the use of drugs. Anglin Hutson of Nation s Cities Weekly, stated that drug, gang connection is often cited, but many researchers believe this activity is overstated. Most street gangs are not efficient or sophisticated drug distributions (Klein). Klein goes on to say that members of gangs are normally arrested for crimes such as burglary, assault, fighting, vandalism, homicide, and extortion. • 4. Ancient Greek Forms Of Government Ancient Greece experienced many forms of government during its lifespan. The different cities, that composed Ancient Greece, experienced with these forms of governments one after another. Or sometimes neighbored cities would be ruled differently, by one man or a group of men. Some of the popular forms of ruling were a monarchy, aristocracy, tyranny, oligarchy and a more widely known form, democracy. Ancient Greeks proved to us how effective and how long these forms of ruling were able to last before falling apart. Let s look at each one of them and see how different they are form each other and what makes them similar. A monarchy is a political system where power is held by someone called a monarch. Wilde adds: Monarchs usually both hold and achieve their position through the right of hereditary succession (e.g. they were related, usually the son or daughter, of the previous monarch) (Wilde, April 2017). Although monarchies might have been popular in different parts of the world, it wasn t the case in Ancient Greece as Cartwright pointed that out (March, 2013). There were only two states who qualified as monarchies in Greek. These states were Macedonia and Epeiros, but the monarch shared the power he had with an assembly (Cartwright, March 2017). One political system that showed some similarities to a monarchy is an aristocracy. This form of government is when the best (in ancient Greece s case, aristocrats) rules (Brouwers, June 2015). • 5. Why Men Are More Talented At Design Than Women There is no way to accurately measure the success rate of designers based on sex or sexual orientation, or, somewhat speciously, to examine if men are more talented at design than women. As Valerie Steele, the chief curator of the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, said: There is no gay gene for creativity. But circumstantial evidence is making some designers wonder about the disparities. Of the young American designers most embraced by retailers and celebrated in the fashion press in recent years, the roll call is almost exclusively male: Zac Posen, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez and Mr. Som as well as Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Their female contemporaries have had a harder time breaking through, among them Behnaz Sarafpour, Alice Roi and Ms. Subkoff. Gay men stick together like a band of brothers, Ms. Subkoff said in an interview. It s more common for a man to bring up a younger assistant who is male and be proud of that, she added, whereas a woman would be threatened to promote another woman. The Council of Fashion Designers of America, a trade group that vets those who apply for membership, is made up of 121 women and 156 men. Since 1986 its annual Perry Ellis awards for young talent have been given to 8 women and 29 men (20 of them openly gay). • 6. Pros And Cons Of Gun Control Essay Gun control has been one of the widely debated topics in the United States and all over the world. Public safety, economics, and the language of the second amendment are parts of the gun control argument that might be considered. Considering that the topic is whether or not the right to bear arms should include assault rifles, the definition of an assault rifle needs to be established. According to the NRA, an assault rifle is, By U.S. Army definition, a selective fire rifle chambered for a cartridge of intermediate power. If applied to any semi automatic firearm, regardless of its cosmetic similarity to a true assault rifle, the term is incorrect. The other key term that plays a major role in this subject is the second amendment. The second amendment states this: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Public safety tends to be one of the biggest concerns when assault rifles are included in the discussion. There are pro gun control advocates say that countries such as Australia with no guns have a lower rate of gun related violence. The people that are against gun control believe quite the opposite and cite the rate of gun related violence in Chicago as their proof against it. Another argument that supports gun control is that the injuries that are treated with our tax money, and that this is a waste of money that could be put towards other beneficial programs for ... • 7. Animal Rights In Animal Testing Using animals in research and to test the safety of products has been a topic of heated debate for decades. According to data collected by F. Barbara Orlans for her book, In the Name of Science: Issues in Responsible Animal Experimentation, sixty percent of all animals used in testing are used in biomedical research and product safety testing (62). People have different feelings for animals; many look upon animals as companions while others view animals as a means for advancing medical techniques or furthering experimental research. However individuals perceive animals, the fact remains that animals are being exploited by research facilities and cosmetics companies all across the country and all around the world. Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, the pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Therefore, animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of products. First, animals rights are violated when they are used in research. Tom Regan, a philosophy professor at North Carolina State University, states: Animals have a basic moral right to respectful treatment. . . .This inherent value is not respected when animals are reduced to being mere tools in a scientific experiment (qtd. in Orlans 26). Animals and people are alike in many ways; they both feel, think, behave, and experience pain. Thus, animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. Yet animals rights are violated ... Mutations to specific genes or regions of DNA contribute to the presentation of these abnormal cells as well as the ability for these cells to divide uncontrollably throughout the body. For many years, the standard route of treatment for those who have been diagnosed with cancer is to use chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Although these therapies have been considered to be the standard of care for cancer treatment for many decades, the toxic side effects that are also associated with these therapies can be just as devastating as the disease itself. The use and increased acceptance towards targeted cancer therapies is not without its imperfections. As with any medication or therapy, not every individual is the same and the overall response rates may change from person to person and from population to population. As more research is done, the introduction of new inhibitors as well as the improvement of current inhibitors will help to increase the overall response rate in patients as well as help to increase the ability for patients to receive even more selective and specific care for their disease. To gain a better understanding and overall appreciation for the creation and implementation of targeted therapies, it is important to look at previous standards of care for the treatment of cancers and tumors. Conventional chemotherapy, when directed in the direction of specific cells in the body, does not do a very good job at being able to discriminate between normal, healthy dividing cells and tumorigenic cells. After this attack the government of Canada used the war measures act to remove all Japanese Canadian citizens that live 160km from the Pacific Coast and put them in internment camps until 1949, four years after WW2. Fast Forward to 1988 and the Canadian government gives an apology to the Japanese, however the apology was for more than just Japanese Internment it was for the pain and suffering, discrimination, and for leaving Japanese citizens with nothing. One of the most justified reasons for the apology would be how the Canadian Government caused the pain and suffering amongst Japanese Canadians. Firstly, the 22,000 Japanese Canadian citizens and residents were taken from their homes on Canadas West Coast without any charge or due process and exiled to remote areas of Eastern British Columbia (Greg Robinson, Internment of Japanese Canadians). In addition, the RCMP arrested suspected operatives while the Royal Canadian Navy impounded 1,200 Japanese fishing boats, and to avoid racist backlash Japanese newspapers, as well as schools were voluntarily shut down. In this time the Japanese population in Canada had been greatly damaged and families became separated into the internment camps. Moving on, my second point for further justification is the Labor Camps Japanese Canadians were placed in, further increasing pain and suffering. Because of the amount of political ... The aforementioned book is about an American family from Georgia, which leaves the comfort of the USA to go to a missionary mission in the country of Congo, in the town of Kilanga. Throughout the novel, it can be seen how the Congo either changes or reveals the true personalities of its 5 narrators (Orleanna, Rachel, Leah, Adah and Ruth May). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is apparent by the use of the character s perspective about nature and the ultimate result it has upon them. Now you laugh, day and night, while you gnaw on my bones. But what else could we have thought? Only that it began and ended with us. What do we know, even now? (Kingsolver 10). This quote by Orleanna about nature, shows the true power of it regarding the motifs of freedom and captivity. This is seen because of the fact that there is a progression and a change of thought that quickly evolves from the family and her thinking that they had the freedom to have dominion over nature, to she surrendering to nature and saying that she is captive forever because of nature that nature instead of being loving, betrayed her and is now seeking for the forgiveness of it. Another way this is seen it when Leah said Its heavenly paradise in the Congo, and sometimes I want to live here forever, (104). This extract from the novel at first glance may not seem like an important passage, but it is considering the fact that she feels that she has the motifs of freedom and love at her grasp as she feels free in the Congo and loves it. This ultimately will not last as their contrasting motifs will eventually kick in making her a prisoner of the Congo by her own merits keeping her captive in there for the rest of her life, while also betraying her because the land and the nature inside it made her lose her little sister. Finally, this connects to the thesis and the other paragraphs because of the fact that it shows this hope versus reality situation which is created when these motifs are combined, furthermore it shows the colorfulness of life in the book because of the fact that it shows the way ... An individual is given a strategy rather than choosing it. EGT will then present which forms of behaviors will persist in the population and which will be driven out. John Maynard Smith and G. R. The kingdoms of France, Russia and Brandenburg Prussia are ample evidence to prove that absolutism worked and was a commonality compared to constitutionalism. This issue then falls to whether the differences or the similarities of these kingdoms are more important in European and World History. The following will provide an argument to support that the similarities of the kingdoms should be more heavily stressed. France was set up for absolute monarchy by King Henry IV. Henry s ambitions neutralized the clash between Catholics and Protestants, in the Edict of Nantes. Before Henry s assassination, he had created a financial surplus in the kingdom. Next in line for the throne was Louis XIII, Henry s son, but he was too young to rule, so Cardinal Richelieu had control over the kingdom. He limited the political privileges of the Huguenots and involved France in the Thirty Years War, and by doing this he affirmed the royal power and engaged France more in European affairs. After Richelieu s death, Louis XIII died and, his son, Louis XIV, who was five years old, inherited the throne. When Louis turned 23 he stepped forward to claim the throne, believing that God had given him the position of King of France. The Doctrine Of Jesus Christ Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand, and will not give unto him of my food that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just...whosoever doeth this the same hath great cause to repent (The Book of Mormon Mosiah 4:16). This progressive quote promotes social welfare and an idea of charity and love that many mainstream Republicans today do not support. Believe it or not, this is not a statement recently made on some left wing political talk show, this is directly from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This same message is echoed throughout all the books of scripture. The doctrine of Jesus Christ teaches the principles of compassion, equality, forgiveness, tolerance, and most importantly love; the political ideology that sides with these ideals is on the left. Stephen Colbert said, If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn t help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we ve got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don t want to do it. The teachings of Jesus Christ do not contradict liberal beliefs, therefore we, as His disciples, should be more open to non conservative political ideals. For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in (King James Version Matthew 25:35). This verse emphasizes one of Christ s ... • 25. The Western Front And Storm Of Steel All Quite on the Western Front and Storm of Steel are two of many influential pieces of literature that reflect World War one from a German point of view. It is important to note that All Quite on the Western Front is a work of fiction that is based on the events of the war, Were as Storm of Steel is memoir that is based on the events of Ernst Junger on the western front. Junger is criticized that he takes a positive stance on the war, were as Erich Remarque s novel tries to show the reality behind the war. The two authors believed the Great war had effects on those who fought in it through the influence of their perception of the war and how new technology had changed the way it is understood. The psychological implications on the soldiers were a direct link between survival, technology and their rural life style. This phenomenon can be seen in both Remarque and Jungar s works. The memoir describes Junger experiences without restraint which results in a graphic book. However, he constantly attempts to convey a position of noble courage in himself and his fellow soldiers, even when Junger experiences situations of true horror. An Example of this can be seen when he is marching into the Battle of the Somme, he seems more concerned with a clear description of the events rather than reacting to it. In certain situations it almost seems that he was relying only on his extinct rather than clearly processing what was happening. This was due to the constant exposure of enemy ... Lab Report Preparing Esters Abhay Vashi Preparing Esters Introduction: In chemistry, an ester is an organic compound that contains a carboxyl group in which carbon is double bonded to one oxygen atom and single bonded to another.(Clancy). The main types of organic reaction that occur are Addition, Elimination, Substitution, Condensation, Esterification, Hydrolysis, Oxidation, Reduction and Combustion reactions. Throughout this experiment, one will observe the changes of how an esterification reaction takes place using different substances to form an ester. Esters are formed when a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol resulting in an esterification reaction. (Clancy). The most common way of making an ester, R OH + R COOH  R COO R + H2O. In the preparation of Ethanoic acid with Ethanol, 1mL of Ethanol was first placed into a 50mL empty beaker and the odour and properties were observed. The Ethanol was a clear colourless liquid that smelt similar to a permanent marker. In daily life, Ethanol is used in alcohol drinks such as different types of liquors, it s a solvent for paint, and is one of the important tools to get rid of air pollution from automobiles due to the fact that there is 35% oxygen in Ethanol, and the addition of oxygen to fuels accomplishes complete combustion, thus, minimizing harmful emissions. (Mueller). Nonetheless, Ethanol is miscible in water and could be biodegraded. (Mueller). The next step to the process was to add 1mL of Ethanoic acid into Ethanol. Ethanoic acid into Ethanol smelled similar to vinegar and the smell got stronger than Ethanol placed in a beaker. Once the Ethanoic acid and Ethanol were mixed and heated in the presence of Sulfuric acid, an esterification reaction was taking place. The odour was stronger allowing detailed observations of the ester formed. The first ester formed was Ethyl Ethanoate. The reaction was slow, and a lot of Ethyl Ethanoate was not produced. Consequently, the smell was disguised due to the smell of the Ethanoic acid. (Clark). However, the mixture was squeezed from the pipette onto a watch glass and mixed with droplets of water ... Opposed to a measured linear unfolding and the idea of moving forward evolution, it ought to capture the movement and doing of subjectivity as always in process. The movement is thus rhizomatic, separated in multiple directions, thus divorcing the established idea of linear transition. One of the largest impacts on cultures would be music and poetry. It seems that these two things, more than anything else, tie people together and give them common grounds (Earhart). These two things not only have the power to tie people together but they also have the ability to tear them apart. For example music has influenced the way people dress, act, and even talk (Syncrat). In order to keep troops out of harm s way, the United States has looked for alternate means of combatting terrorist organizations. Since September 11, 2001 the United States has relied heavily on its men and women in uniform to prevent terrorism abroad. Technology of today and the use of intelligence offer the United States alternate means of addressing terrorism. For instance, drone strikes were called by former US CIA director Leon Panetta, the only game in town in term of confronting or trying to disrupt the Al Qaeda leadership (ODLE, 2013). With the use of typology, socioeconomic assistance, drones, diplomatic engagement and enhanced airline security services, the use of military force is not the only way to prevent terrorism. If our country wants to never send another son or daughter to war then we must first understand who the terrorists are. Former President George Bush said we fight against poverty because hope is an answer to terror (Lee 2011). On the other hand, there are studies that say the opposite, that terrorism is not related to poverty. Poverty and education are very important factors of what violence occurs. Literature Review On HIV Literature review The emergence of drug resistant strains of human immunodeficiency virus( HIV) and treatment failure can result from non adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). (Michel Morin;2000) Non adherences to medication is widespread among patients (Margaret A. Chesney; 2000).An estimated average rate of patient that non adhere to the antiretroviral (ARV) treatment therapy ranges from about 50 70%( Margaret A. Chesney; 2000) HIV becomes drug resistance when the ARV treatments are not adhered to. Once the patient has taken their antiretroviral (ARVs) medication then stops the HIV is able to replicate and will do so at a rapid rate. As a result mutations are very common (Jen Gorgan and Ruth Suter;2009) There can be one or more mutations that might block the working of the ARVS making them less effected or even completely ineffective. i.e. the virus will become resistant to any of the drugs and multiply. (Jen Gorgan and Ruth Suter;2009) There are many factors as to why patients do not adhere to their ARV treatment. The main factors for non adherence would appear to be patient related, this would include patients that are alcohol and substance abusers. However there are many other reasons, that could contribute, such as inconvenient dosing frequency, dietary restrictions, pill burden, side effects, area which the patient is located and patient health care provider relationships; and the system of care (Margaret A. Chesney; 2000) this factors/reasons mentioned above can be improved by clarifying treatment plans and perhaps be able to work around the patient schedule or lifestyle also the patient and their loved ones should be educated in order to understand the risks and for the to create a financial plan. Delving into this concept, if names don t affect the quality of their works, why would authors use pseudonyms instead of their real names? There are several cases, from Charlotte Brontë to Stephen King, where authors chose a pen name for their own reasons. It also explains how different news stations may have certain agendas which might help increase a vote for a specific candidate and others which are vice versa. In the movie the media shined upon everything that was going on. The dilemma between one man choosing the fate of the election allowed for great news coverage. Once news spread about where the main character lived, it was all over the news. The main character could not even look out his window without having a reporter take a picture of him. Every movement he made was being watched from every corner, allowing for every news station to report whatever they assumed he was thinking about or doing. Certain news stations made him seem very incompetent while others used it more for ratings. Throughout the entire movie the media was relentlessly accusing the main character without hesitation. Concept 3: Electoral College According to the National Archives and Records Administration, the Electoral College is a process of the United States Constitution. It was established by the founding fathers as a compromise between election of the president by Congress and election by popular vote. It also states that each state is allocated a number of electors equal to the number of its United States Senators, which is always two, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. History of the Battle of Queenston Heights Battle of Queenston Heights Introduction The War of 1812 is among the most obscure wars in American history, according to journalist Donald Hickey, writing in the Public Broadcast Service. That is because most Americans have no idea what the fighting was about or who the U.S. was battling against. The lack of familiarity with the War of 1812 is likely true, Hickey explains, because the president at the time, James Madison, was hardly in the same league as Abraham Lincoln or Franklin Roosevelt. And there was no great general like Washington or Eisenhower to rally the American troops to victory. Moreover, the cause of this war is complex and not well understood. Meanwhile the reasons behind the War of 1812 involved Free Trade and Sailor s Rights, which really relates to England s attempt to block American trading ships from Europe. It also pertains in history to the rude practice of the English of removing American seamen from U.S. merchant vessels. Hence, Hickey makes the point that in hindsight this war prosecuted by American troops invading Canada was fought (and lost) in an effort to secure maritime rights far, far away from the battlefield. The Battle of Queenston Heights in the War of 1812 When the war broke out in June of 1812, the American forces began preparing for the invasion of Canada but things did not go well at the outset. That is, by August, Brigadier General William Hull was forced to surrender Detroit to British Major General Isaac Brock (Hickman, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Theory Of Democratic Peace The Theory of Democratic Peace has been a topic of much debate over the years. Why is this? There are many opinions on this theory and many questions are raised when speaking about it. The argument that I pose is, is there such a thing as democratic peace? In order to address my argument and in order to critically analyse Democratic Peace Theory, this piece of academic writing will look at a variety of causes that some theorists state are behind the Democratic Peace Theory and will look at the different branches of the theory. Firstly it will look at what ideology the theory can be drawn from and how the two can link together to prove that democratic peace can exist. Secondly it will look at if the theory has helped the spreading of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, this theory makes the assumption that if there is a war between two countries, it will be between one that is democratic and one that is not. There has been some evidence that no two democratic countries have ever been to war, if we are talking about war in the sense of military action (Griffiths et al., 2008). For example, 353 pairs of states engaged in wars between 1816 1991 and none was between two democracies: 155 pairs involved a democracy and a non democratic country, and 198 involved two non democratic states fighting each other (Griffiths et al., 2008). A reason for why democratic peace theorists stress that democratic states fight with only non democratic states is due to the reason that, they may be dangerous because they seek other ends, such as conquest or plunder (Owen 1994). When did the theory originate? Democratic Peace Theory, as it came to be known, emerged as a robust research programme in the post Cold War years (Daddow, 2013). According to Rosato (2003), the theory is probably the most powerful liberal contribution to the debate on the causes of war and peace (p.585) Now let s talk about the ideology that the theory can be drawn from and let s see how the ideology and the theory can be linked together to help prove that some sort of democratic peace can and does exist. Liberalism, an ideology that focuses mainly on the individual, but has other key features such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Gender Imbalance Of Computer Science Gender Imbalance in Computer Science Introduction In past many generations, men and women had distinct roles. In ancient times, the stereotype of a woman was working as a housewife, taking care of children and doing housekeeping jobs, while man were responsible for hunting or farming. As human civilization goes on, woman are no longer restricted in household routines and have been widely accepted as an indispensable source of labor force in a variety of occupations. However disparity of career preference between male and female are fairly pronounced, particular in computer science. An undeniable fact is that employees of tech companies that are typically related to computer science in Silicon Valley are overwhelming male. 17 percent of Google tech workers are women, according to the diversity data released by Google itself (Diversity at Google, 2014). In 2014, female tech workers make up 15 percent of Facebook s workforce (Constine, 2014). Also in 2014, Yahoo reports ratio of female technical workers is 15 percent and Twitter reports only 10 percent of technical workforce is female (CNNMoney, 2014). According to an evaluation published in 2014 by Anita Borg Institute for women and technology, average ratio for female workers in bay area is approximate 20 percent (Weise, 2014). We can trace the gender imbalance in workplace back to the shortage of female computer science students in college. It is not a new topic that women are scarce in science and engineering ...
