Human Action In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart
If you can once engage people s pride, love, pity, ambition (or whatever is their prevailing passion) on
your side, you need not fear what their reason can do against you
This quote is from Philip Stanhope, whether intentional or not, he has spawned a discussion on
whether the dominant force which governs human action is reason or passion. Two words which are
very different in definition, but at the same time, incredibly similar. Maybe there is something in our
daily life which has two very different parts which can coexist in unity. The Human, since early times
has been a creature of emotion. But also one with awe inspiring reasoning ability. The early hominids
sought food, and shelter, this was due to their will to live (passion), therefore ... Show more content on

On a less disturbed note, (or maybe a worse one) We can look at war to see passion and reason. All
war has roots in both, passion can take form of religion, love, hate, nationalism, and many other
emotional responses, but there is always the reasonable justification. Expand the nation s territory, or
defend it s citizens, we ve all heard the reasons. But the aspect of war I feel to be most relevant is
power. Power is both a reasonable and passionate goal. For an example, let s take Hitler, (because is
there a more widely known historical figure?) After world war one while germany was in a horrible
depression, one man stepped forward as its savior. Adolf Hitler. He had all a political leader could be
expected to have and more. He was passionate in his speeches

Stereotypes In My Little Pony
A male age 15 and over who is a fanatic of the show My Little Pony is called a brony. Mainstream
society describes these people as homosexuals, perverts, and jobless men who live with their parents.
People aren t hesitant to quickly label bronies as the rejects of society. Most bronies, at first, don t feel
comfortable telling people about their My Little Pony addiction because they are afraid of society s
oppressive ways. According to some bronies in the video, they are picked on at school for liking a
little girl s show. They look up at mainstream society and realize that their acceptance is denied
because of society s judgmental ways. However, to get over the fact that many people disapprove of
their ways, they have a belief that love

Comparing Wittenberg s Hamlet And Doctor Faustus
Wittenberg was a tragical comedy performed at our very own Roger Williams University. It was a play
starring three main characters. There was Hamlet, Martin Luther, and Doctor Faustus. Through out the
play Hamlet confides in both Luther and Faustus, who happen to both teach at the University of
Wittenberg. Luther is a professor of theology as well as a priest. Another professor at the University is
Dr. Faustus, who is a philosophical professor. He also helps people who encounter difficulties with
spiritual and psychological troubles. Both instructors help advise Hamlet who is a young danish prince
and a student at the University. Except Hamlet finds himself receiving two completely opposing
directions of guidance. Hamlet discusses psychological

companies in Taiwan. This article attempts to prove that telecommunication business should be
investing in to increase customer advocacy by building trust and satisfaction. The study utilizes 388
surveys to gather data enabling Yeh to evaluate six hypotheses. Hypothesis 1 Customer trust has a
positive impact on perceived value. Hypothesis 2 Customer satisfaction has a positive impact on
customer perceived value. Hypothesis 3 Customer advocacy has a positive impact on customer trust.
Hypothesis 4 Customer Advocacy has a positive impact on customer satisfaction. Hypothesis 5
Customer empowerment has a positive impact on the firm s customer advocacy. Hypothesis 6

Holmes purchased a lot across from the drugstore and built what would be later known as his Murder
Castle (which is where it is believed that he hid the bodies of Dr. E.S. Holton and his wife). Holmes
would open it up as a hotel for the World s Columbian Exposition in 1893, with part of the structure
used as commercial space. The ground floor of the Castle contained Holmes s own relocated drugstore
and various shops, while the upper two floors contained his personal office and a maze of over one
hundred windowless rooms with doorways opening to brick walls, oddly angled hallways, stairways to
nowhere, doors opened only from the outside, and a host of other strange and labyrinthine
constructions. Holmes repeatedly changed builders during the construction of the Castle, so only he
fully understood the design of the house, thus decreasing the chance of being reported to the police.
Holmes selected mostly female victims from among his employees (many of which were required as a
condition of employment to take out life insurance policies for which Holmes would pay the
premiums but also be the beneficiary), as well as his lovers and hotel guests. He tortured and killed
them in some of the worst possible ways you could imagine. Some were locked in soundproof
bedrooms fitted with gas lines that let him asphyxiate them at any time and some were locked in a
huge soundproof bank vault near his office where they were left to suffocate. He

What Are The Unwritten Rules Of The American Dream
Societal expectations and rules are what weigh down the backs of those who try to attain the American
Dream. These unofficial rules exist as a wall between the rich and poor. They apply to the majority of
the American population, and limit the amount of citizens that can live in opulence to a select few. The
remaining population is left with the arduous struggle towards an almost unattainable dream, the
American Dream. These unwritten rules apply to women, immigrants, and those who are not born into
wealth, so generally, most of the U.S. population are subjected to this false promise called the
American Dream. Women are expected to model themselves after other prominent females, the
loveliest heroines were those who died young, like Beth

Have you ever wondered what kinds of the bait or lures you would have to use if you went fishing.
Would it be best to use natural bait or artificial lure? Does different kinds of lures attract different
sizes of fish? What about the different kinds of baits, do they attracts different sizes? Where would
you find different kinds of natural baits?

One of the best way to fish is to use natural bait or even live bait. Like with Bass it s better to use both
artificial lures with some common earthworms. But with artificial lures you can easily make them in
your house or buy them. You can easily spend a lot of money on just one lure. You maybe available to

medium sized fish like 5 6 ounces
What kinds of baits attracts different sizes?
Some of the best bait to use is nightcrawlers, minnow, crawfish, shrimp, worms and stink bait.
Nightcrawlers are used for more of larger fish like largemouth bass, trout, catfish, and carps. Minnows
are used for more median size fish like bass, crappies and walleyes. Shrimp are used for Shrimp traps
and they are used for more like smaller fish. Stink bait is used for catfish.
Where would you find different kinds of natural bait?
You can easily find common earthworm if you dig in your backyard. Also you can find nightcrawlers
in your yard and in a bait shop. With minnows you can go to a local river or pond and make a really

The Purposeful Destruction Of Images
The Purposeful Destruction of Images Throughout the ages art has been subject to selective
destruction and spoliation. It has been taken by conquering peoples as spoils of war, put to material re
use, and been subject to iconoclasm. Iconoclasm has been used as a means of not only purposeful
forgetting, but, also the preservation of memory as a warning to others motivated diversely by
ideology, religion, and politics. One artifact subject to iconoclasm is the painted portrait of Septimius
Severus and his family in which one face was scraped out leaving the other three members untouched
for political reasons and a demonstration of power. Another artifact affected by iconoclasm is a
famous Byzantine icon, the Virgin Hodegetria, which was taken to be the Virgin and Christ Child by
western Europe for religious purposes. Breaking the image in this figurative manner gave little to no
meaning to the original icon and stole its value in history. Another victim of iconoclasm is a panel that
once belonged to an arch of Marcus Aurelius that now adorns the arch of Constantine (Elsner, p. 212).
These three artifacts have all been purposefully altered in diverse ways for different reasons, however,
the fact remains that they have all faced damnatio memoriae, spolia, and/or iconoclasm. Iconoclasm
has been described in many ways, the most known definition comes from Gardner s Art through the
Ages: A Global History by Fred Kleiner, iconoclasm is the destruction of religious or sacred

Child Marriage Is A Growing Problem
Most girls dream of their wedding from a very young age, from meticulously planning each detail to
fantasizing about walking down the aisle. But, for many girls across the world, their wedding day is
something to dread. In many cases, these girls are forced to marry men much older than themselves,
sometimes even by three or four decades. The International Center for Research on Women defines
child marriage as, a formal marriage or informal union before age 18 (np), and although rarely
mentioned, child marriage is a growing problem worldwide. The United Nations Populations Fund
states, In developing countries, one in every three girls is married before reaching age 18. One in nine
is married under age 15 (unfpa.org). Young brides who are put in this terrible situation face
tremendous mental and physical risks and often die from the abuse they receive from their husband.
The following paper will highlight the oppression young brides face including first hand stories,
female genital mutilation, and health consequences across the Middle East and Eastern Asia. To begin
with, child marriages are very common in impoverished countries where most girls are viewed as an
unneeded expense and parents often desire to get them out of the house as soon as possible. In which
case, many girls do not receive an education, which is very beneficial. Many parents also believe that
marrying their daughters young is profitable to them, as it prevents rape from unmarried men and will

IX on the career opportunities in intercollegiate athletic administration.
Bower, G.G., Hums, M.A. (2013). The impact of Title IX on career opportunities in intercollegiate
athletic administration. Journal of Intercollegiate Sport (6), 213 230.
2. The literature review of this article focuses on Title IX itself, as well as statistical numbers that
provide the reader knowledge about the impact it has had. Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that
has removed many barriers that once prevented people, on the basis of sex, from participating in
educational opportunities and careers of their choice (Bower Hums, 2013). Acosta and Carpenter
(2012) reported that the number of female athletes playing college sports has risen from 16,000 in
1968 to over 200,000 in 2012. Although the increased number of opportunities has provided women
the chance to participate in the sport, the percentage of women coaching women s teams has decline
over time from 90% in 1972 to 42.9% in 2012 (Acosta Carpenter, 2012). Alongside coaching is the
lack of women working in intercollegiate administration. In 1972, the percentage of female athletic
directors overseeing women s programs was 90%, Today, the percentage of female athletic directors is
20.3%, a small increase from 2010

Individuals With Disability Education Improvement Act Essay
Individuals with Disability Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) of 2004 defines a disability as being

The Chicano Of Chicano Literature
FINAL ESSAY
Chicano Literature has been around since the 1800s after the Mexican war . Mexican American
Literature is stories that writers talk about their ethnic identities through Chicano culture situations
and characters. They are their own culture, who take traditions and customs from Mexico and
American and make up their own history with it. They try to identify themselves with one culture or
the other, the food, the customs, traditions and many other things. The boundaries that define a
Chicano/a is that Chicanos live between two worlds, between two borders the American side and their
Mexican side. At first, the borders may stop them from assimilating, constructing an environment of
mistrust and hesitation. However, these boundaries do not reveal who they are until they figure out
how to blend into their new society . If they do not assimilate to their new identity/culture it may
cause them to lose a part of who they are. Nonetheless, being near a Border can have benefits as well
as consequences like the loss of culture. Assimilation means to adapt to a new culture and become a
part of them. People of different backgrounds and beliefs undergo assimilation when, through living
together, they come to see themselves as part of a larger community. The reason why you see
assimilation often in Chicano/a Literature is because many Mexicans try to blend into the American
culture. Many Chicanos write stories about what they have lived through the years or stories they have

Capital Punishment and Life Without Parole Essay
The first death sentence that has been historically recorded was as far back as 16th century BC. This
occurred in Egypt, the wrongdoer was accused of magic and he was then ordered to take his own life.
In present day the death penalty has changed drastically. The death penalty has undergone many
changes since then. In medieval times the methods used to kill people were inhumane and often times
cruel. In modern times the methods to kill people are much more humane. The death penalty has been
used less and less often and even outlawed in some states. The death penalty should be used more
often and for more crimes. If the death penalty was used more often there would be a deterrence for

The more people in a prison the more money it takes for that prison to run. In 1995 it cost $49 billion
dollars to run all of the prisons in all 50 states. Since 1995 there has been an increase in the amount of
people incarcerated in prison. With this increase in prison population there is also an increase in the
amount of money it costs to run prisons. The cost difference in an entire trial and prosecution of a
death sentence and the entire trials and prosecution and life in prison of a LWOP sentence is immense.
Dudley Sharp says in Death Penalty and Sentencing Information Justice for all estimates that LWOP
cases will cost $1.2 million $3.6 million more than equivalent death penalty cases (Sharp).
Additionally, we would live in an all around safer country. The people of the country would feel safer
as well as be safer. People would be safer in every way possible. The lack of violent crimes would
create a physical safety. Without murderers, rapists, assailants, and other such brutal people there
would be less need for self defense, such as guns or other weapons. With less white collar crime
people would be safer when it comes things such as having identities stolen or companies being
embezzled. This would give people better financial security and less chance of having their life ruined
by someone stealing their identity. It would give the economy a great boost as well.
On the other hand, some people disagree with the thought

Caching Weapons Essay
Caching Firearms Ammunition Food and Gear
We have delved into this subject a number of times in previous articles, but like anything else attitudes
change or a situation arises that makes one stop and contemplate their actions thus far.
Common sense tells us that a cache should be such that if you arrive with nothing but the clothes on
your back you would have what is needed in the cache to survive going forward. Survive and defend
yourself, so this means firearms in each cache along with sufficient ammunition.
It All Sounds Good On Paper
A cache for an individual or even a family is a personal stash if you will, a collection of items that the
family or that the individual needs for survival.

Besides firearms and Ammo, you need food, water, medical supplies, clothing, tools, and other
necessities, which in and of themselves could cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
Typically, people have one or two good weapons and then several that get the job done but would not
be considered top of the line firearms. Any firearm you have is a good firearm, but when you have
choices, you have to choose wisely.
It s hard not to advocate one way or the other, hard because we here do have some personal experience
with caches. A firearm is a tool that has to be ready for use at all times under any conditions. You need
a reliable firearm on you, and you need a reliable firearm in a cache so if you have to resupply you can
maintain the same security status as before. Make your cache as equal to or better than what you have
close to hand and this includes, food, gear, medical supplies and so on.
Forget about the first tier second tier firearms mumble jumble on the Internet. Leave all those flow

by having the best available at all times, less training means more equipment, gear, and

Since the time of Comix writers have been rebelling and creating graphic novels that are outside the
norms of everyday books and classic written pieces. Writers have rebelled throughout history and now
present us with graphic novels that appeal to audiences in unique ways, for example books like Ghost
World and Persepolis. Ghost World by Daniel Clowes is an example of a modern day piece of writing
which approaches audiences in an unconventional manner. Ghost World follows the life of two best
friends, Enid Coleslow and Rebecca Doppelmeyer, who are sarcastic, cynical, and witty teenagers that
recently graduated from high school. They spend their days wandering aimlessly through town
coming in contact with new people and critiquing popular culture of their generation. This book is
presented in a very raw form. It is uncut and shows exactly how teenagers function within society. Its
popularity soars from its modern lingo, sexual references, and its light approach to adolescent life.
Ghost World was created by Daniel Clowes when he was a teenager, giving it an unforced
cheerfulness that any teenager can relate to. Ghost World includes characters like Allen Weinstein, the
boy with whom Enid had her first sexual experience with, who also smoke marijuana and rebels
against his wealthy parents. It has Melorra an overachieving classmate who appeared out of the blue
on a regular basis and it has characters most books don t have like Johnny Apeshit who was a former
punk rocker and heroin addict turned businessman. This book presents everything a teenager could
ever look for in a book reality with a side of day to day teen rebellion. Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
is also a graphic novel that many readers can consider idiosyncratic. It presents a child growing up in
Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Although this book doesn t cross boundaries in an utmost manner
like Ghost World, it

Compare And Contrast The Legal Position Of A Formal Hospital
Compare and contrast the legal position of a formal and informal hospital patient suffering from
mental disorder. About 90% of those admitted to psychiatric facilities in England and Wales are
admitted informally [1]. The grounds for this are found in section 131 (1) of the Mental health Act
1983 nothing in the act shall be construed as preventing a patient who requires treatment for mental
disorder from being admitted to any hospital regardless of whether the correct procedure has been
followed (i.e. recommendations from ASW). The definition of mental disorder is laid out in section 1
of the act. The legal position of a formally confined patient is much easier to define as their
confinement is by definition formal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Persons held under section 136 can only be detained for 72 hours, this is to enable them to be
examined by a registered medical professional and an ASW. Arrangements can then be made for the
patients care or treatment. Mental capacity is another important difference between formal and
informal patients with regards to consenting to treatment. Providing the patient is mentally competent,
they are in a much stronger position to refuse treatment as an informal patient. Again, however, it has
been observed that patients feel coerced into consenting to treatment. Until the MCA[10] came into
force this year there was very little procedural protection afforded to those patients admitted
informally and found to be mentally incompetent. Treatment could be forced upon patients in this
situation on the basis of the doctors view of the patients best interests[11]. Within the category of
informally admitted patients we see different issues arising with regards specific groups. Women, for
example, and more specifically white women, represent one and a half times more admissions then
men[12] a considerably higher proportion of patients then their percentage of society. Some may argue
that this is due to the enduring misogyny of society, seeing women acquiesce to informal admission,
rather then being the active party in the decision that hospitalisation is indeed their best option. Others
would view this percentage difference as a result of the fact that women

How To Build A Computer
How I got interested in computers was when I got my very first one when I was sort of young around
eight or nine. It wasn t the best computer out at the time, but it was still a computer that made me so
attached to and fascinated with the technology that makes up computers. When I started using
computers, I would use them to play games and all sorts of stuff, but now that I have my own
computer that I built and paid for I can do anything with it, and it cost me around one thousand and
five hundred and sixty dollars. I use it to mostly play games, but I use it for school work and browsing
the internet.
I already know the basics and a lot about computers. I know how to build them. When it comes to
building a computer, people usually feel overwhelmed so they usually take it to a store and pay a
certain amount to have the person working their to build it for them, but I built my computer without
any help, and it was probably one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had, along with the
feeling of accomplishment. More than likely, I will never forget building my first computer. So far I
only know how to build them, and how to troubleshoot them if something is wrong with one of the ...

Examples Of Fashion Trends In The 1920s
Fashion Trends in the 1920s In the 1920s, women wore day dresses, in the day, hence it s called day
dresses. For day dresses, the dress were short and loose. It wasn t until 1925 when the length of the
day dresses was around the knees. The waistline for the day dresses were right below the bust line and
as time went on, the waistline lowered. So by 1922, the waistline for the day dresses were around the
hips. As for the colors of the day dresses, the 1920s was really into floral prints and pastel colors.
Besides from day dresses, evening dresses were completely the opposite. Depending on the quality
and style of your evening dresses, it would basically show the women s social status, how much
money they would have. Everything on the evening dress was expensive, from the accessories such as
beads to its material. There are many different styles of necklines on the formal dresses and it consists
of a low square cut, scoop, or a V shape. As for the back of the dresses, it would either be a low scoop
or V also. To complete the formal look, women would also add on accessories such as jewelry. There
would be long necklaces, which are usually made out of fake pearls/beads, cuff bracelets that would
usually go up to the arm or around the biceps, and those were made out of either gold or silver,
earrings that we usually long, and chokers. Women could also wear stockings if they liked to, and the
colors of stockings were usually black or nude. Women could also put on a cloche hat

Byzantine Influence On Christian Art
The first centuries were a period of turmoil as well as triumph for many empires, countries, rulers, and
religions. Rome experienced its first Christian emperor, Constantine, who transferred the capital of the
Roman Empire from the west to the east. Christianity replaced the gods of antiquity as the official
religion of the culturally and religiously diverse state in the late 300s (Brooks). This religious shift
resulted in a change in the subjects of artwork that was created across the empire. Furthermore,
Christian basilicas and churches were being built and decorated with a variety of Christian motifs
which sought to transport the viewer into a heavenly realm. With the mass amount of changes that
occurred within a short amount of time, the Roman Empire decreased in size and became known as
the Byzantine Empire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Constantinople is known today as Istanbul and is located in modern day Turkey. During the time of
the Roman Empire, Constantinople was an important port city in the middle of east west trade. Being
centrally located in trade as well as extending over various countries and cultures resulted in a variety
of artistic styles. The subject of many early artworks was the Virgin (Theotokos) and Child which
progressed to other Christian themes such as Christ the Good Shepherd and Christ the Judge. Many of
these artworks were done in mosaics and are found in basilicas and churches throughout the territory
of the Byzantine Empire. Due to Byzantine control over countries that were Christian and Islamic,
symbols from both religions became focuses of art and were able to join together to produce new art

Allocation Asset allocation is a portfolio management technique that is concerned with balancing
between income oriented and growth investments in a portfolio. This apportioning enables the
investor to capitalize on the risk/reward trade off between the various assets in the portfolio and gain

Background Information: Paper towel is a common household cleaning item in almost every house.
They clean up spills and messes. It is important that you have a good quality paper towel so you can

Paper towels were invented by a man by the name of Arthur Scott. He lived in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania at the time he was inventing it. He invented paper towels in 1931. Arthur Scott invented
it because he wanted to prevent the spread of illnesses and germs since back in the days they use to
have 1 cloth in public restroom which everyone would use. While I was researching on the internet
looking at commercials I have found that in other people s tests is that bounty is the most absorbent

paper towel is the more liquid it will absorb and trap. All paper towels have air pockets and that is
where the liquid will go in order to be absorbed. Air pockets get formed when factories stamp shapes

Similarities And Differences Between Gilgamesh And Achilles
Each mythological hero by all accounts seems to be on a quest searching for what he desire most on
the planet. The same can be said for the two heroes I chose, Gilgamesh and Achilles. Gilgamesh s
greatest fear was dying, while Achilles fear was his legacy lost and overlooked. Although their wishes
differ, their quest share numerous similarities. In the end it all comes down to the same thing. Both
Gilgamesh and Achilles wanted immortality regardless of anything else, but each in his own particular
manner. In spite of the fact that immortality has a different meaning for Gilgamesh, as it does for
Achilles, each choice and additionally every one of the sacrifices they make, all depend on their fear
of dying and death. Both Gilgamesh and Achilles actions showed insight into their cultures. It
somewhat proved an answer to the way they did things and why they.
First, Gilgamesh and Achilles are two epic heroes who share some differences. Among the differences
there are also some similarities. Achilles and Gilgamesh were to a great degree different with respect
to their identity and how they reacted to death. Achilles was a warrior and Gilgamesh was a ruler, each
all around respected and feared in their role. They both demonstrated fearlessness and toughness in
their parts, yet their responses to the passing of their best friend varied greatly. Combined Achilles and
Gilgamesh participated in many battles, as discussed in Homer s Iliad and the Mesopotamian Epic of
Gilgamesh .

With the increase in population the number of passengers willing to travel daily are increasing
abruptly and now the situations are getting that worse. People don t bother about they either have
ticket or not, they knowingly not only entered the train without ticket or unconfirmed, waiting ticket,
but also travel in reservation compartment. Also the bribery and black marketing of tickets are the
very important factor that come into role nowadays and also the numbers of daily up downers either
for job or study has been increased a lot from villages to the nearby major cities. Thus all these
situations leads to an overloaded train, full of extra passengers and causes lots of harm to the railway,
passengers and Indian economy too (Bhatia, Lala, Chaurasia, 2012). I would like to propose some
updates in Indian railway technology and adaptation of these measures will surely help them to

Zimbardo Prison Experiment Stu
Zimbardo Prison Experiments The Zimbardo prison experiment was set up to investigate the problem
of what the psychological effects for normal people result from being a guard or inmate, and in a
broader sense are normal people capable of being evil. The research question being asked was, How
would normal people react to being in a simulated prison environment? In Zimbardo s own words,
Suppose you had only kids who were normally healthy, psychologically and physically, and they knew
they would be going into a prison like environment and that some of their civil rights would be

I personally disagree and when I assert my conclusions at the end, I will explain why. Dehumanization
is taking away an individual s autonomy, their creative and unique aspects of their personality. The
experiment dehumanized all the participants by doing precisely this. By placing them in an artificial
controlled setting where variables were manipulated and allegedly made them act a certain way due to
assumed roles, they were not autonomous, i.e. dehumanized. If I were a prisoner, especially knowing
that it was only a simulation, I would have rebelled (as some prisoners did) and definitely not become
subordinate or tattled on my fellow prisoners. I know this as I have spent a few days in a real jail
before. While I was there I tried to avoid getting into trouble and the guards didn t provoke me. When
they stripped searched me however I asked the guard doing the search if he was a f**got. I guess I
didn t like someone having control over me like that. Had a guard this real situation provoked me,
even knowing the consequences, I probably would kick his ass. Furthermore, I know I wouldn t act
crazy, cry or puss out and act like my life was ending. I would probably treat this situation pretty
comically with a lot of sarcasm and would probably try to psych out the guards. On the other hand, if I

These, of course, align with some of the key values towards a unique customer service that Lyft
possesses and can capitalize on.
One of Lyfts differentiating factor is it prides itself on possessing the most social experience there is
for a rideshare company. As the American population continues to become more educated, their
consumer behavior has shifted to where they are more conscious of corporation impacts to the
environment they live in or hope their children will reside in. Lyft through the ridesharing platform
where ridesharing can be argued reduces greenhouse gas via reducing car densities on the road, they
can capitalize on it and target more environment conscious customers. Furthermore, Lyft can continue
to strengthen their commitment to contributing to reduce negative environment impacts pertaining to
cars and court the next generation of customers after the millennials, generation Z which are expected
to continue to become more educated and environment conscious.
Another target Lyft should capitalize on are cities/towns that have profiles centered on community
orientation and social bonds. Lyft mission can easily align with such cities/towns.

Islamic State Of Iraq And Al Sham
The Islamic State of Iraq and Al Sham is a terrorist organization that began as Al Qaeda in Iraq. Since
Al Sham can mean Syria or the Levant, media and governments usually refer to them as the Islamic
State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL); some use the
derogatory name Daesh in order to avoid recognizing the group s claims. The Islamic State declared
themselves a caliphate with Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi becoming Caliph Ibrahim. He claims authority
over all loyal Muslims worldwide, and uses extreme violence in an attempt to spread their extreme
ideology. They pose a great threat to the Middle East and the West as long as they continue to exist
and hold power in the region. In order to limit the radical long term effect they could have on the
world, the nations of the Coalition against them must devote all available resources to destroying the
organization rather than many devoting some resources to containing them.
Although the Islamic State s main area of operation is in Iraq and Syria, they have affiliates in
Afghanistan, Pakistan, and parts of Africa. Much of this support comes from members of the Taliban
defecting, and Boko Haram committing itself to support the Islamic State. As a whole, 1,000 terrorists
from various locations across the globe join each month. The group has convinced several teenagers to
leave their homes and join; if they become disillusioned and attempt to leave, the group kills them.

Pythagoras of Samos was born back in 570 BC (Before Christ) on the island of Samos, Greece. Little
did his parents, Mnesarchus and Pythias know that he would eventually be seen as the first pure
mathematician. Young Pythagoras was not the only child in his family, or only boy for that matter, it is
believed that he did have 2 or 3 brothers. Not much is known of his personal life at home along with
his family matters. Many people just have theories based on how he lived away from mathematics.
For example, some believe he was married and had a child that would eventually be a teacher, and
others believe he never married anyone and the lady he was believed to be married to was just his
student. Aside from his personal life at home, much is known about his life in education. (1) ... Show

Darry looks after the gang and tries to keep them safe. Some of the gang s home lives are not the
greatest so Darry always leaves the front door unlocked so that they can blow off steam and keep
themselves out of trouble. Darry would rather have the gang stay over on their couch than do
something foolish. Without a doubt, Darry Curtis can be considered a hero due to the fact that he
works hard to keep his family together and to support them.
Clearly, Dallas Winston can also be seen as a hero in the book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. Even
though Dally has a police record a mile long, he cares for Johnny and tries to be a caring and loving
figure in Johnny s life. When Johnny kills Bob, Dally gives him money, a gun, and a safe spot to go.
Dally could have saved the getaway location and his back up plan for himself, but he gave it to
Johnny. Johnny is one of the only things on earth that Dally loves. Another example that Dally is a
hero is that he saves Johnny from the burning church, even though he could die doing it. To save
Johnny from burning to death, he runs back into the church, risking his life in order to save Johnny.
This is exactly what firefighters and other heroes do. Ultimately, as much trouble that Dally causes, he

Personal Narrative Essay On Softball Finals
How I lost my softball finals My second time losing (in the second season) was actually the softball
finals. I was torn when it all happened and it was a really interesting story how I lost. It was all after
school when we had played softball for at least two hours and all we had was five points, FIVE
POINTS! The other team had just caught up with us at five points, and we worked so hard to get the
five points that inside I just felt like I was going to cry. I was holding back my tears, I looked around
the dugout and it looked like my whole entire team had the same feeling that I did. I suddenly jumped
at my couch yelling Time for the out field. When I got outside the coach told me to go and play 1st
base. While I was running to 1st base ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Brian Clark Case
According to the above petition filed on January 5, 2017, by Officer K. A. Tennyson, the following
occurred at Deep Creek High School (2900 Margaret Booker Drive) in the city of Chesapeake,
Virginia.
Brian Clark was instigating Patrick Raymond to fight him. About 5 minutes later, Brian told Patrick
that he was using his phone to record Patrick on live Facebook. Patrick asked Brian to prove to him
that he was recording him by showing him his phone and when Brian put his phone to Patrick s face
Patrick grabbed the phone to turn it off. Brian had earphones in his ear connected to his phone when
Patrick grabbed it, causing him to fall out of his seat. Brian then stood up, walked up to Patrick and
punched him in the face. Brian then began to choke Patrick before slamming him to the ground. As
Patrick was on the ground covering his head, he received numerous punches to his face, ear, and also a
kick to his upper chest before another student stepped in to break up the altercation. Patrick suffered
bruises and swelling to his face as a result of the assault. Officer Tennyson was made aware of a video

The Marketing Of The Beer Industry
The U.S. beer industry is a highly concentrated industry since two large firms (Anheuser Busch InBev
and MillerCoors) occupy a significant market share. As the craft beer industry experiences an
explosive growth, the competition becomes fierce. As the largest craft brewery and the seventh largest
brewery in the United States, the Boston Beer Company is facing growing competitive threats from
larger breweries and premium imported beer companies, including Anheuser Busch InBev,
MillerCoors, Heineken, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium Brewing, and Crown Imports. More than that, it
has to face the competitive challenges from the small breweries, which are growing rapidly and want
to surpass the Boston Beer Company. Samuel Adams produced by the Boston Beer Company is one of
the most popular craft beer because it has won more awards in the beer tasting competitions than any
other brewery in the world since 2000 (Dess et al. C129). As the competition within the craft beer
industry, the Boston Beer Company has to figure out a way to maintain growth, increase customer
awareness, and continue to brew flavorful beers that customers enjoy.
Porter s Five Forces on the general Beer Industry
Industry rivalry is considered high because of the acquisition, the decline of the beer consumption, and
the rise of the craft brewing sector. Competition among the beer companies in the industry is based on
brand and quality. In recent years, the industry has also consolidated quite notably with the top two

The Black Mirror Episode Shut Up And Dance
With every action, there is a consequence. It is so ever often that someone can do a misdeed and
receive nothing from it. However, there would still be speculation from it. So if nothing happens, does
the person move on with their lives, or does it haunt them until they confess? Well, it depends on the
person. One can be paranoid of their surroundings, while the other can forget about what they did and
move on. If someone commits a crime and it caught, there will be a consequence. It can either be
shortly after the crime, or years later. Frankly, someone will have to face the consequences. The
criminal just has to deal with it and realize their actions are what led them to the consequence. No one

It will go in 2 directions. One will be where they hide what they did and accidentally commit more
crimes, while the other is that they found pleasure in committing the crime and want more of that
feeling. The first direction includes someone being paranoid and doing things they do not want or that
they usually would never do. It gets to a point where they have done enough damage and it breaks the
person. They cannot deal with it anymore and turn themselves in since they have nothing to lose
anymore. They lost themselves in the mess and the only way out is to accept it and come out with the
truth. The other direction goes as such: the person commits the crime and they feel good about it. They
get that high that boosts their confidence and they love that feeling. They need more of it. Therefore,
they will continue to do more crimes and with each one, it escalates so they can get the same high as
the first one. Each one gets worse and so on until they get caught. At that point, they are feeling so
high that they are unaware of the situation until they calm down and realize what is happening. One
can go either direction, but facing the consequence is

This is an almost insignificant change in momentum so therefore it can be said with confidence that
the law of conservation of momentum was conserved in this scenario.
For the second collision in part one, the change in momentum from initial conditions to final
conditions was 59.9 percent. This is change in momentum indicates that an external force (such as a
friction force) was present on the two cars. This friction force was caused by the additional mass
added onto Truck A so this added force from the weight on Truck A justifies the idea that the law of
conservation of momentum is only applicable when there are no other outside forces acting on the
system.1,3 This outside friction force explains why the percent in the change of momentum from start
to finish is 59.9 percent.
For the third collision in part one, the change in momentum from initial conditions to final conditions
was 28.7 percent. This is change in momentum indicates that an external force (such as a friction

An Army At Dawn Essay
The book An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa 1942 1943 gives the reader valuable insight
into the campaign in North Africa in 1942 1943 for both Allied and the German forces. The narrative
follows the American and British armies as they fought the Vichy French in Morocco and Algiers, and
then later when they fight the Germans and the Italians for Tunisia. The novel follows the
inexperienced and ill led soldiers from battle to battle as they gradually become a more cohesive and
deadly fighting force. This novel also centers around the almost mythical but also flawed commanders
who dominate the battlefield and write their names in the history books: Eisenhower, Patton, Bradley,
Montgomery, and Rommel. The author, Patrick Atkinson, lays out a spectacular narrative on what was
happening during Operation Torch and in the North African Campaign. In analyzing the narrative, the
author s main points consist of the Allies (American and British) and German strategy/thinking during
the campaign. The other main points consist of the ally defeats and failures during the campaign
which resulted in them having to re strategize and rethink of how to defeat the Nazi forces under the
command of Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel. All of this cumulates to his important main point,
which was that the Allies gained enough vital experience from their past defeats to win the overall
campaign. There are parallels and tie ins fro this book that correspond to the readings that we have had

Notes On Acids And Bases
Topic: Acids and Bases.
Introduction
Acids are chemical agents that, when mixed with water, release hydrogen ions. Acids have a pH of
under 7 on the pH scale.(Williams, 2016) An acid produces a sour taste, like Vinegar, and gives off a
strong smell, that burns the human nose. Acids are often very sticky, and react strongly with metals,
and create a chemical reaction to form H2. (Guch, 2003) A Base is the complete opposite of an Acid,
and describes a substance that is above 7 on the pH scale. Bases have a more higher potential than
Acids to accept Hydrogen Ions. This means that rather than releasing ions, as an Acid would, a Base
accepts the ions.(Morrissey, 2016) Similar to Acids, Bases provide a Bitter taste, like Cocoa Beans, or
Bicarb Soda. Bases, unlike Acids, do not usually give off a distinct smell, but are usually quite
slippery. Bases react with most oils and fats, such as Detergent reacting with human skin, and slowly
breaking down the oils and fats in the skin tissue.(Guch, 2003)
The universal indicator is used for specifying whether a substance is a Base, Neutral, or an Acid along
the pH scale, by measuring the concentration of H3O+ ions in a substance. (N.a, 2016) The pH scale
is a scale that determines whether a substance is an Acid product, or a Basic product. The H in pH
stands for Hydrogen, however, the p is often debated, therefore is thought of as the power of the
hydrogen. (Morrissey, 2016) The pH scales ranges from ranking between 0 (Being more

Eco Terrorism and Violence in The United States
Eco terrorism has been said by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to be the most significant domestic
terror threat facing the United States today ( Environmental ). This assumption could not be any more
true. Everyday, the lives of many innocent citizens and animals are put in danger just for a group of
people to try to make a statement about what they believe is right, and what they believe is wrong.
These actions are usually committed by individuals who believe that the exploitation of natural
resources and despoliation of the environment are becoming so severe that action outside of
conventional legal and environmental channels is required ( Ecoterrorism. Pollution). Although this
may be effective in getting the wanted attention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though most groups are targeting the higher ups in a business or production, many of the lower level
workers are being harmed in their attempts. Putting people in danger to make a statement is not the
right way to approach the situation. Legal actions should, and are often taken against these individuals
that see it necessary to cause destruction to fix a problem. Because of their violent actions,
environmental activists have been legally deemed terrorists. They have inflicted millions of dollars in
damages and have maimed innocent people ( Ecoterrorism: The Dangerous ). The term Eco terrorist
came into play because the goal of these domestic terrorists are the same as those of international
terrorists; to threaten a legitimately elected government through causing domestic unrest and
threatening the peaceful orderliness of society ( Environmental ). Main targets of these acts include
forestation projects, hydro electric operations, resource production, and land based telecommunication
and energy services (Nilson). The term terrorist has also been labeled upon on these activists because
the means utilized by domestic terrorists are very similar to those of international terrorists. Both
groups target unarmed civilians and carry out violent attacks without there being a war. According to
the article Perspectives onEcoterrorism: Catalysts, Conflations, and Casualties , written by Randall
Amster, the cycle of ecoterrorism, is not without

The Time Of Time Traveling
The majority of us live our lives as it is in the moment now. Some us are always striving to look ahead
to achieve greater things in life. But no matter what you do and how your outlook on life one thing
remains the same for all which is time. You can look time as it s a train that won t stop moving no
matter what and all on the same train whether we like it or not. So imagine this what if we could get
off the train to board a slower one whereas the time moves slower. Since the time goes slower you age
slower but when you re aboard the first train you d be in the future relativity when you got off the first
time; that s the concept of time traveling. The idea of time traveling is popular among science fiction
writers. You have the movie The Time Machine thanks to H.G Wells for his wonderful imagination to
the famous everyone s favorite Back to The Future. Many scientists and physicists used to get laughed
and they weren t taken serious for believing in time traveling but thanks to Einstein s theory of
relativity which opened doors to a lot of physicists trying to find ways to travel to the future. Thus, so
time travel is a real possibility.
For you to believe I must address some issues first. Some people may argue that time doesn t exist it is
just a concept that humans made based on the earth orbiting around the sun so therefore, time travel is
impossible. That once was believed to be the case, however, I d like to point out Einstein s theory of
special relativity one

Concert Band Vs Marching Band Essay
Sometimes, a talent is a blessing. However, it can also bring a lifetime of toil.
Both in middle school and high school, I stayed in the elective Band. There exist two types of bands in
the school: Concert Band and Marching Band. In Concert Band, you choose and play an instrument.
Based on which one you play, you could receive the melodic material or the accompaniment.
Marching Band, however, has elevated difficulty by forcing you to march and play simultaneously.
The marching instruments could be the same instrument, an alternate form of the instrument, or
another instrument if you play a concert instrument which you cannot march. I play an instrument
called the tuba which almost always has the bass line, usually plays longer notes than the rest of the
band, and gets an occasional solo by a fluke

Two months after school started, I crashed into a state of depression. After being told multiple times
that there would be no way out of means since my sousaphone and tuba skills outmatch the majority

tuba. I now felt like I was enslaved into the sousaphone and that the only way out was ending my life.
The following Thursday was the day I finally mentioned of a possibility of committing suicide
because I felt it would get me out of playing sousaphone. Despite longing for an escape route out of
life, I cleared my issue the day later. I finally resolved this issue by discussing with the high school
band director. He would let me do something I dreamed of for a long time. The solution was that I
would march baritone saxophone in my sophomore

  • 2. Human Action In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart If you can once engage people s pride, love, pity, ambition (or whatever is their prevailing passion) on your side, you need not fear what their reason can do against you This quote is from Philip Stanhope, whether intentional or not, he has spawned a discussion on whether the dominant force which governs human action is reason or passion. Two words which are very different in definition, but at the same time, incredibly similar. Maybe there is something in our daily life which has two very different parts which can coexist in unity. The Human, since early times has been a creature of emotion. But also one with awe inspiring reasoning ability. The early hominids sought food, and shelter, this was due to their will to live (passion), therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On a less disturbed note, (or maybe a worse one) We can look at war to see passion and reason. All war has roots in both, passion can take form of religion, love, hate, nationalism, and many other emotional responses, but there is always the reasonable justification. Expand the nation s territory, or defend it s citizens, we ve all heard the reasons. But the aspect of war I feel to be most relevant is power. Power is both a reasonable and passionate goal. For an example, let s take Hitler, (because is there a more widely known historical figure?) After world war one while germany was in a horrible depression, one man stepped forward as its savior. Adolf Hitler. He had all a political leader could be expected to have and more. He was passionate in his speeches ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most bronies, at first, don t feel comfortable telling people about their My Little Pony addiction because they are afraid of society s oppressive ways. According to some bronies in the video, they are picked on at school for liking a little girl s show. They look up at mainstream society and realize that their acceptance is denied because of society s judgmental ways. Holmes purchased a lot across from the drugstore and built what would be later known as his Murder Castle (which is where it is believed that he hid the bodies of Dr. E.S. Holton and his wife). Holmes would open it up as a hotel for the World s Columbian Exposition in 1893, with part of the structure used as commercial space. The ground floor of the Castle contained Holmes s own relocated drugstore and various shops, while the upper two floors contained his personal office and a maze of over one hundred windowless rooms with doorways opening to brick walls, oddly angled hallways, stairways to nowhere, doors opened only from the outside, and a host of other strange and labyrinthine constructions. Holmes repeatedly changed builders during the construction of the Castle, so only he fully understood the design of the house, thus decreasing the chance of being reported to the police. Holmes selected mostly female victims from among his employees (many of which were required as a condition of employment to take out life insurance policies for which Holmes would pay the premiums but also be the beneficiary), as well as his lovers and hotel guests. He tortured and killed them in some of the worst possible ways you could imagine. These unofficial rules exist as a wall between the rich and poor. They apply to the majority of the American population, and limit the amount of citizens that can live in opulence to a select few. The remaining population is left with the arduous struggle towards an almost unattainable dream, the American Dream. These unwritten rules apply to women, immigrants, and those who are not born into wealth, so generally, most of the U.S. population are subjected to this false promise called the American Dream. • 10. The Purposeful Destruction Of Images The Purposeful Destruction of Images Throughout the ages art has been subject to selective destruction and spoliation. It has been taken by conquering peoples as spoils of war, put to material re use, and been subject to iconoclasm. Iconoclasm has been used as a means of not only purposeful forgetting, but, also the preservation of memory as a warning to others motivated diversely by ideology, religion, and politics. One artifact subject to iconoclasm is the painted portrait of Septimius Severus and his family in which one face was scraped out leaving the other three members untouched for political reasons and a demonstration of power. Another artifact affected by iconoclasm is a famous Byzantine icon, the Virgin Hodegetria, which was taken to be the Virgin and Christ Child by western Europe for religious purposes. Breaking the image in this figurative manner gave little to no meaning to the original icon and stole its value in history. Another victim of iconoclasm is a panel that once belonged to an arch of Marcus Aurelius that now adorns the arch of Constantine (Elsner, p. 212). These three artifacts have all been purposefully altered in diverse ways for different reasons, however, the fact remains that they have all faced damnatio memoriae, spolia, and/or iconoclasm. Iconoclasm has been described in many ways, the most known definition comes from Gardner s Art through the Ages: A Global History by Fred Kleiner, iconoclasm is the destruction of religious or sacred ... • 11. Child Marriage Is A Growing Problem Most girls dream of their wedding from a very young age, from meticulously planning each detail to fantasizing about walking down the aisle. But, for many girls across the world, their wedding day is something to dread. In many cases, these girls are forced to marry men much older than themselves, sometimes even by three or four decades. The International Center for Research on Women defines child marriage as, a formal marriage or informal union before age 18 (np), and although rarely mentioned, child marriage is a growing problem worldwide. The United Nations Populations Fund states, In developing countries, one in every three girls is married before reaching age 18. One in nine is married under age 15 (unfpa.org). Young brides who are put in this terrible situation face tremendous mental and physical risks and often die from the abuse they receive from their husband. The following paper will highlight the oppression young brides face including first hand stories, female genital mutilation, and health consequences across the Middle East and Eastern Asia. To begin with, child marriages are very common in impoverished countries where most girls are viewed as an unneeded expense and parents often desire to get them out of the house as soon as possible. In which case, many girls do not receive an education, which is very beneficial. Many parents also believe that marrying their daughters young is profitable to them, as it prevents rape from unmarried men and will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Impact Of Title Ix On Career Opportunities For... Research Assignment 1. The search term I used to search for this article was Title IX in sport. I used the OneSearch Database through UNF s online library. I selected this study because it focuses on the impact of Title IX on the career opportunities in intercollegiate athletic administration. Bower, G.G., Hums, M.A. (2013). The impact of Title IX on career opportunities in intercollegiate athletic administration. Journal of Intercollegiate Sport (6), 213 230. 2. The literature review of this article focuses on Title IX itself, as well as statistical numbers that provide the reader knowledge about the impact it has had. Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that has removed many barriers that once prevented people, on the basis of sex, from participating in educational opportunities and careers of their choice (Bower Hums, 2013). Acosta and Carpenter (2012) reported that the number of female athletes playing college sports has risen from 16,000 in 1968 to over 200,000 in 2012. Although the increased number of opportunities has provided women the chance to participate in the sport, the percentage of women coaching women s teams has decline over time from 90% in 1972 to 42.9% in 2012 (Acosta Carpenter, 2012). Alongside coaching is the lack of women working in intercollegiate administration. In 1972, the percentage of female athletic directors overseeing women s programs was 90%, Today, the percentage of female athletic directors is 20.3%, a small increase from 2010 ... • 14. The Chicano Of Chicano Literature FINAL ESSAY Chicano Literature has been around since the 1800s after the Mexican war . Mexican American Literature is stories that writers talk about their ethnic identities through Chicano culture situations and characters. They are their own culture, who take traditions and customs from Mexico and American and make up their own history with it. They try to identify themselves with one culture or the other, the food, the customs, traditions and many other things. The boundaries that define a Chicano/a is that Chicanos live between two worlds, between two borders the American side and their Mexican side. At first, the borders may stop them from assimilating, constructing an environment of mistrust and hesitation. However, these boundaries do not reveal who they are until they figure out how to blend into their new society . If they do not assimilate to their new identity/culture it may cause them to lose a part of who they are. Nonetheless, being near a Border can have benefits as well as consequences like the loss of culture. Assimilation means to adapt to a new culture and become a part of them. People of different backgrounds and beliefs undergo assimilation when, through living together, they come to see themselves as part of a larger community. The reason why you see assimilation often in Chicano/a Literature is because many Mexicans try to blend into the American culture. Many Chicanos write stories about what they have lived through the years or stories they have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Capital Punishment and Life Without Parole Essay The first death sentence that has been historically recorded was as far back as 16th century BC. This occurred in Egypt, the wrongdoer was accused of magic and he was then ordered to take his own life. In present day the death penalty has changed drastically. The death penalty has undergone many changes since then. In medieval times the methods used to kill people were inhumane and often times cruel. In modern times the methods to kill people are much more humane. The death penalty has been used less and less often and even outlawed in some states. The cost difference in an entire trial and prosecution of a death sentence and the entire trials and prosecution and life in prison of a LWOP sentence is immense. Dudley Sharp says in Death Penalty and Sentencing Information Justice for all estimates that LWOP cases will cost $1.2 million $3.6 million more than equivalent death penalty cases (Sharp). Additionally, we would live in an all around safer country. The people of the country would feel safer as well as be safer. People would be safer in every way possible. The lack of violent crimes would create a physical safety. Without murderers, rapists, assailants, and other such brutal people there would be less need for self defense, such as guns or other weapons. With less white collar crime people would be safer when it comes things such as having identities stolen or companies being embezzled. This would give people better financial security and less chance of having their life ruined by someone stealing their identity. It would give the economy a great boost as well. Since the time of Comix writers have been rebelling and creating graphic novels that are outside the norms of everyday books and classic written pieces. Writers have rebelled throughout history and now present us with graphic novels that appeal to audiences in unique ways, for example books like Ghost World and Persepolis. Ghost World by Daniel Clowes is an example of a modern day piece of writing which approaches audiences in an unconventional manner. Ghost World follows the life of two best friends, Enid Coleslow and Rebecca Doppelmeyer, who are sarcastic, cynical, and witty teenagers that recently graduated from high school. They spend their days wandering aimlessly through town coming in contact with new people and critiquing popular culture of their generation. This book is presented in a very raw form. It is uncut and shows exactly how teenagers function within society. Its popularity soars from its modern lingo, sexual references, and its light approach to adolescent life. Ghost World was created by Daniel Clowes when he was a teenager, giving it an unforced cheerfulness that any teenager can relate to. Ghost World includes characters like Allen Weinstein, the boy with whom Enid had her first sexual experience with, who also smoke marijuana and rebels against his wealthy parents. It has Melorra an overachieving classmate who appeared out of the blue on a regular basis and it has characters most books don t have like Johnny Apeshit who was a former punk rocker and heroin addict turned businessman. This book presents everything a teenager could ever look for in a book reality with a side of day to day teen rebellion. About 90% of those admitted to psychiatric facilities in England and Wales are admitted informally [1]. The grounds for this are found in section 131 (1) of the Mental health Act 1983 nothing in the act shall be construed as preventing a patient who requires treatment for mental disorder from being admitted to any hospital regardless of whether the correct procedure has been followed (i.e. recommendations from ASW). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Persons held under section 136 can only be detained for 72 hours, this is to enable them to be examined by a registered medical professional and an ASW. Arrangements can then be made for the patients care or treatment. Mental capacity is another important difference between formal and informal patients with regards to consenting to treatment. Providing the patient is mentally competent, they are in a much stronger position to refuse treatment as an informal patient. Again, however, it has been observed that patients feel coerced into consenting to treatment. Until the MCA[10] came into force this year there was very little procedural protection afforded to those patients admitted informally and found to be mentally incompetent. Treatment could be forced upon patients in this situation on the basis of the doctors view of the patients best interests[11]. Within the category of informally admitted patients we see different issues arising with regards specific groups. Women, for example, and more specifically white women, represent one and a half times more admissions then men[12] a considerably higher proportion of patients then their percentage of society. Some may argue that this is due to the enduring misogyny of society, seeing women acquiesce to informal admission, rather then being the active party in the decision that hospitalisation is indeed their best option. Had a guard this real situation provoked me, even knowing the consequences, I probably would kick his ass. Furthermore, I know I wouldn t act crazy, cry or puss out and act like my life was ending. I would probably treat this situation pretty comically with a lot of sarcasm and would probably try to psych out the guards. Since Al Sham can mean Syria or the Levant, media and governments usually refer to them as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL); some use the derogatory name Daesh in order to avoid recognizing the group s claims. The Islamic State declared themselves a caliphate with Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi becoming Caliph Ibrahim. He claims authority over all loyal Muslims worldwide, and uses extreme violence in an attempt to spread their extreme ideology. They pose a great threat to the Middle East and the West as long as they continue to exist and hold power in the region. In order to limit the radical long term effect they could have on the world, the nations of the Coalition against them must devote all available resources to destroying the organization rather than many devoting some resources to containing them. Although the Islamic State s main area of operation is in Iraq and Syria, they have affiliates in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and parts of Africa. Much of this support comes from members of the Taliban defecting, and Boko Haram committing itself to support the Islamic State. As the craft beer industry experiences an explosive growth, the competition becomes fierce. As the largest craft brewery and the seventh largest brewery in the United States, the Boston Beer Company is facing growing competitive threats from larger breweries and premium imported beer companies, including Anheuser Busch InBev, MillerCoors, Heineken, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium Brewing, and Crown Imports. More than that, it has to face the competitive challenges from the small breweries, which are growing rapidly and want to surpass the Boston Beer Company. Samuel Adams produced by the Boston Beer Company is one of the most popular craft beer because it has won more awards in the beer tasting competitions than any other brewery in the world since 2000 (Dess et al. An Army At Dawn Essay The book An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa 1942 1943 gives the reader valuable insight into the campaign in North Africa in 1942 1943 for both Allied and the German forces. The narrative follows the American and British armies as they fought the Vichy French in Morocco and Algiers, and then later when they fight the Germans and the Italians for Tunisia. The novel follows the inexperienced and ill led soldiers from battle to battle as they gradually become a more cohesive and deadly fighting force. This novel also centers around the almost mythical but also flawed commanders who dominate the battlefield and write their names in the history books: Eisenhower, Patton, Bradley, Montgomery, and Rommel. The author, Patrick Atkinson, lays out a spectacular narrative on what was happening during Operation Torch and in the North African Campaign. In analyzing the narrative, the author s main points consist of the Allies (American and British) and German strategy/thinking during the campaign. The other main points consist of the ally defeats and failures during the campaign which resulted in them having to re strategize and rethink of how to defeat the Nazi forces under the command of Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel. All of this cumulates to his important main point, which was that the Allies gained enough vital experience from their past defeats to win the overall campaign. • 52. Notes On Acids And Bases Topic: Acids and Bases. Introduction Acids are chemical agents that, when mixed with water, release hydrogen ions. Acids have a pH of under 7 on the pH scale.(Williams, 2016) An acid produces a sour taste, like Vinegar, and gives off a strong smell, that burns the human nose. Acids are often very sticky, and react strongly with metals, and create a chemical reaction to form H2. (Guch, 2003) A Base is the complete opposite of an Acid, and describes a substance that is above 7 on the pH scale. Bases have a more higher potential than Acids to accept Hydrogen Ions. This means that rather than releasing ions, as an Acid would, a Base accepts the ions.(Morrissey, 2016) Similar to Acids, Bases provide a Bitter taste, like Cocoa Beans, or Bicarb Soda. Bases, unlike Acids, do not usually give off a distinct smell, but are usually quite slippery. Bases react with most oils and fats, such as Detergent reacting with human skin, and slowly breaking down the oils and fats in the skin tissue.(Guch, 2003) The universal indicator is used for specifying whether a substance is a Base, Neutral, or an Acid along the pH scale, by measuring the concentration of H3O+ ions in a substance. (N.a, 2016) The pH scale is a scale that determines whether a substance is an Acid product, or a Basic product. The H in pH stands for Hydrogen, however, the p is often debated, therefore is thought of as the power of the hydrogen. (Morrissey, 2016) The pH scales ranges from ranking between 0 (Being more ...
