About Uber
• Uber officially launched in India in October 2013. Currently, the company is
operating in 6 cities - New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and
Pune.
– The concept is gaining lots of popularity around the world. It is posing real
challenge to traditional taxi market. With a recent funding of $1.2 billion, total
valuation of the company is $17 billion.
– The company is signing up around 20,000 drivers every month around the
world. It is not only serving the existing market but expanding it.
• Uber does not own cars, uses state-of-the-art technology to connect drivers with
passengers within minutes through a mobile app for a fee.
• Given their track records in some of the emerging markets they have entered,
Uber’s play is just to create a foothold in India.
– Hertz, Avis etc. have all been in the Indian market but are tiny. So unless
Uber makes a big investment in India, local players need not to worry much.

Why is INDIA important for Uber?
Currently, India is the largest market for Uber outside the US. The
company is operating service in 6 cities.

• India is the second most populated country and world’s
largest democracy and the demand for mobility is increasing.
• The taxi market is still in nascent stage and offer great
opportunity for the new operators.
• Regulation in India is more liberal than China and other
European countries. So offer better flexibility for Uber.
• India is witnessing growth of Urban population and
emergence of new million-plus cities.
• Growth of Air Travel, absence of organized service and rising
income level are increasing demand for taxi service.

1. How did you like Uber service?
Rupa Nandy : In liked the service
Bharath Sivaraman :
Liked it. Hassle free. Drivers are mostly well
behaved.
Sumeer Gulati :
I am very satisfied with the uber service. But of
late a lot of cars aren't really luxury cars for
which Uber became famous.
Pallavi Semwal : The service was extremely satisfactory

2. Do you find making payment with credit card is
easier or would you prefer cash?
Rupa Nandy : I would prefer cash
Bharath Sivaraman : Credit card is easier.
Sumeer Gulati : I would prefer cash
Pallavi Semwal :
I would prefer the option of making payments
myself using a debit card or cash

3. What was your waiting time with UBER and other
taxi operator.
Rupa Nandy : 10 minutes
Bharath Sivaraman :
Ranges between 5 - 20 mins on most occasions.
Depends also on the area from where the pick
up is. There have been occasions where I have
not got a cab especially during the early days
of Uber in Hyderabad
Sumeer Gulati : About the same as Meru...half an hour
Pallavi Semwal : 10-15 min

4. Any particular reason for choosing UBER
Rupa Nandy :
Good cars and less waiting time than other
cabs, discounts given to ISB students
Bharath Sivaraman :
Started using this first. They were probably the
pioneers of this model in India or atleast their
marketing effort reached me first. Happy with
the service and therefore no reason to change
Sumeer Gulati : Luxury cars
Pallavi Semwal : High end cars

5. How often did you use UBER in Hyderabad and in
Delhi.
Rupa Nandy :
Once in a week in Hyderabad haven't used in
Delhi
Bharath Sivaraman : Twice a fortnight
Sumeer Gulati : In Hyderabad about 7-8 times. Never in Delhi.
Pallavi Semwal : Not very often. 2-3 times a month

Rupa Nandy :
Registering with credit card makes people a bit
averse in using Uber
Bharath Sivaraman :
Added advantage with Uber during the
introductory period is the possibility of getting
luxury or other standard models
Sumeer Gulati :
Please train uber drivers. Many of them drive
extremely fast and are not able to control their
enthusiasm.

Currently, the company is operating in 6 cities - New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. – The concept is gaining lots of popularity around the world. It is posing real challenge to traditional taxi market. With a recent funding of $1.2 billion, total valuation of the company is $17 billion. – The company is signing up around 20,000 drivers every month around the world. It is not only serving the existing market but expanding it. • Uber does not own cars, uses state-of-the-art technology to connect drivers with passengers within minutes through a mobile app for a fee. • Given their track records in some of the emerging markets they have entered, Uber’s play is just to create a foothold in India. – Hertz, Avis etc. have all been in the Indian market but are tiny. So unless Uber makes a big investment in India, local players need not to worry much.

Demand for Mobility Weaker Regulation Untapped Market • India is the second most populated country and world’s largest democracy and the demand for mobility is increasing. • The taxi market is still in nascent stage and offer great opportunity for the new operators. • Regulation in India is more liberal than China and other European countries. So offer better flexibility for Uber. • India is witnessing growth of Urban population and emergence of new million-plus cities. • Growth of Air Travel, absence of organized service and rising income level are increasing demand for taxi service.

Sumeer Gulati : I am very satisfied with the uber service. But of late a lot of cars aren't really luxury cars for which Uber became famous. Pallavi Semwal : The service was extremely satisfactory

Rupa Nandy : I would prefer cash Bharath Sivaraman : Credit card is easier. Sumeer Gulati : I would prefer cash Pallavi Semwal : I would prefer the option of making payments myself using a debit card or cash

Rupa Nandy : 10 minutes Bharath Sivaraman : Ranges between 5 - 20 mins on most occasions. Depends also on the area from where the pick up is. There have been occasions where I have not got a cab especially during the early days of Uber in Hyderabad Sumeer Gulati : About the same as Meru...half an hour Pallavi Semwal : 10-15 min

Any particular reason for choosing UBER Rupa Nandy : Good cars and less waiting time than other cabs, discounts given to ISB students Bharath Sivaraman : Started using this first. They were probably the pioneers of this model in India or atleast their marketing effort reached me first. Happy with the service and therefore no reason to change Sumeer Gulati : Luxury cars Pallavi Semwal : High end cars

Rupa Nandy : Once in a week in Hyderabad haven't used in Delhi Bharath Sivaraman : Twice a fortnight Sumeer Gulati : In Hyderabad about 7-8 times. Never in Delhi. Pallavi Semwal : Not very often. 2-3 times a month

Rupa Nandy : Registering with credit card makes people a bit averse in using Uber Bharath Sivaraman : Added advantage with Uber during the introductory period is the possibility of getting luxury or other standard models Sumeer Gulati : Please train uber drivers.
