Merce Cunningham s Influence On Contemporary Dance
In my opinion, Merce Cunningham is the most influential person in the history of contemporary
dance. Cunningham was both a dancer and in the early 1940s began to choreograph. A former dancer
of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Cunningham went on to found the Merce Cunningham Dance
Company, where many of the dancers went on to become prestigious choreographers as well. In his
works, the choreography, music and design all work separately yet together. Through his belief that
anything can follow anything (Au 155), use of space and music, exploration of chance, is what makes
Merce Cunningham the most influential person in the history of dance.
As written in Ballet and Modern Dance, The choreographer played the role of the painter, selecting
what the viewer saw and directing his focus to different performers or areas of the stage (155). This
statement describes Merce Cunningham s approach to choreography and space perfectly. In
Cunningham s works, there is no front and center spot. The front and center spot takes place all over
the stage and the performance can be viewed from any angle. Also, Independence was central in
Cunningham s works. For example, the video shown in class of the dancers in the warehouse, shows
the dancers at every angle and even when the camera focuses on one ... Show more content on

One of the chance methods he used, was to ...toss coins or roll dice to determine crucial aspects of a
performance... (Weinstein). Often times, as discussed in class, the dancers that worked with Merce,
would not hear the music they would be dancing to until it came time to perform. He absorbed the
aspects of everyday, or pedestrian, movements into his works. Cunningham rewrote the traditional
relationship between dance and music: dancers did not dance to the music. Essentially, the dancers
were dancing for

Define Heroic Behavior
Who is a hero? What is a hero? A hero is someone who has courage and stands up for others. That is a
hero. Heros are all over the place. You can find heros right in front of you. Even you could be a hero.
Hero s face challenges in their life even though they are a hero. Even though hero s face challenges we
do to, there is nothing different except they save us. Even though other people are a hero doesn t stop
you from being a hero so if you want to change the world then change the world because no one will
stop you. Who is a hero you re in real life time that stands today?

my hero connect with his hero s well his heroes are God,MA,and Walt Disney. So my hero connects
with his heros, he met MA and Walt Disney because of Mickey Mouse. Does my hero have more than
one hero yes,he does because the is more than one hero that he admires.Still people are yet another
type of hero as emerged. What do hero s believe and thought was correct and it is right. Do hero s or
did hero s think at the moments or during they were in episodes. Hero s come in and forms in
life, ranging from one family and friends to athletes to movie. People change over time and hero s.
They also have true embodiments of heroism. Even though hero s have done what we think is beyond
us. I know were overseas while their wives were pregnant and now are temporarily are separated from
their younger children. People s actions tell us that it is possible to do big things. People call them a
hero and we are compelled to connect with hero s. Many times a hero does not understand why they
are being exalted. Many times a hero overcomes a change or a challenge. In the dictionary the word

Adoration Of The Magi Analysis
The art piece that caught my attention was at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. The piece is called
The Adoration of the Magi, painted by Girolamo de Carpi. The Holy Family and the Three Magi s are
illustrated in the painting. They seem to be sitting outside on the ground behind a home made of brick.
A sense of space and perception is created because in the distance, behind the people in the painting
there is a beautiful view of a mountain and the sun in the sky far from where the people are. In the
artwork, de Carpi paints clothes on each person besides baby Christ, and the clothing differ in color;
there is red, green, yellow, blue. The colors seemed somewhat bright, in a way indicating that the
painting is representing a happy time. Also painted are horses depicted behind a short wall, next to the
horses seems to be a servant giving one of the Magis a vessel of some sort.
The idea of depicting this story from the Christian bible wasn t a new one, there are countless
paintings depicting this same story, although, only one of the four gospels of the Bible actually
mentions it. The story can originally be found in Matthew 2, saying that after Jesus was born, wise
men came to Jerusalem from the east. They were looking for the child after seeing a star that meant
the birth of the King of the Jews. When the King at the time, King Herod, heard of the mens search, he
was curious and wanted to know more about his possible competitor. It was believed by his scribes
and priests

Essay On Reverse Discrimination
Discrimination: treating a person or group differently when the reason is not relevant (Kaye and
Thomson). A double standard is created when a rule or regulation does not fairly apply to all groups.
An example of this is racism s double standard that has been created while trying to amend to
unfairness created by racism. These double standard are hostile to attempts of true equality due to the
harm it causes to the media/justice system create reverse discrimination, and affect college admissions
unfairly. The double standard of racism affects the media/justice system by creating racist articles that
are viewed as okay , viewing one form of racism acceptable while another not, and affecting opinions
about what if fair and what is not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One reason why this may be more effective it that young minds can be easily swayed by what may at
first seem like reliable media outlets. Also, without proper education on the topic students can easily
see discrimination as a one way act and then be intolerant but, if taught well they will now that it can
go both ways. In addition to this, instead of teens and adults trying to amend racism by creating a
double standard actual work towards equality can take

Religion in Todays Society
Religion has affected the human in many ways; rules, traditions, culture patterns, morality, etc. The
most powerful and important role that religion plays is that how it controls the human. I believe that
religion has created conflicts between people including whole countries. Religion has the societal
effect of dividing people into us and them . This unfortunately has the same characteristics as any
other form of discrimination, such a as racialism. Then, it would come very easy to consider us as the
righteous and them as unrighteous. Religion can also be used as a tool of suppression. It s easy to
maintain order and nullify dissent by citing religious grounds. An example of how society is
influenced and impacted by religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catholics, by basis of religion alone, were not allowed to vote, could not worship in public, and were
not allowed to hold public office.
In the Virginia colony where Anglicanism ruled all citizens were required to attend church and to be
catechized by a minister. If someone refused to do so they could be killed. Colonists were also
required to financially support the church just as they would a governmental institution. They were not
allowed to associate with anyone who was not of their faith unless they were attempting to convert
people of differing faiths.
With the above history, it is quite easy to see where there would be a need for separation of church and
state. While the early colonists were in part coming here to create a better life for themselves they
unfortunately brought with them the ideals of oppression and enacted them in their local townships.
Religious oppression has eased up in today s modern American culture when compared with that of
the early Americans, part of which can be seen through modern diversity educational practices as in
Teaching Religion in Schools: Religious Rites and Ritual from Across the Globe.
At the onset of the eighteenth century more immigrants came in and so did differing religious views.

Sports Psychology Timeline
Sport psychology dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when several psychologists
started conducting sports related studies. In the United States, the first recognized sports psychology
study was carried out by an American psychologist Norman Triplett, in 1898. He wrote about his
findings in what was regarded as the first scientific paper on sports psychology, published in 1898, in
the American Journal of Psychology. Many Years later, across the Atlantic in Europe, Sport
psychology took its place primarily in 1920s Germany where the first sports psychology laboratory
was founded in Berlin by Dr. Carl Diem. The sport psychology phenomena made its way to Russia in
1925 and set the tone for what was to come in the battle for dominance ... Show more content on

Not only to land a bigger paycheck, but often times with hopes to become an iconic figure in the sport

Maintaining consistent peak performance while performing under those pressures requires the help of
a sport psychologist. According to Scott Goldman, director of clinical and sport psychology at the
University of Arizona, Everyone is trying to figure out how to maximize talent. (Voelker). Therefore,
athletes are trying to find an edge that goes beyond physical abilities and conditioning. Professional
sports organizations along with Universities hire sport psychologists to help athletes stay on top of
their game. With the field growing, so is the need for psychologists at all levels. Even beyond
Olympians and professionals, the need extends all the way down to college athletes and even high
school athletes looking to advance in their prospective sport. Jobs are also available in the military as
it is paramount to keep troops mentally fit for battle. Because of that, the U.S. military is the country s
largest employer of sport and performance psychologists where they are typically referred to as
Performance Enhancement Specialists (Voelker). The field goes beyond athletics and even is
implemented by corporations to ensure its employees can

Trade Reforms Policy Impacts on Non-Oil Exports in Nigeria
CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background to the Study Trade policy is defined as, a
government s policy controlling foreign trade and the central objective of trade policy is to provide
protection for domestic industries and reduce the perceived dependence on imports; a corollary to that
objective was a desire to reduce the level of unemployment and generate more revenues from the non
oil sector. Non oil export sector in Nigeria constitutes products of agriculture, industry and services
that are exported by Nigeria (Ojowu, 1989). Agriculture is the primary non oil product sector, which
provides food, and fiber for the economy, while industry, as the modern sector, produces manufactured
goods. The non oil export sector of the Nigerian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.2. Statement of the Problem Non oil exports are made up of the agricultural sector, manufacturing
sector and the service sector of an economy. Nigeria, like many other developing economies has over
the years pursued the objective of accelerating the rate of development in the economy in a bid to
transform into a developed country. The economy held so much hope for attainment of such goals
within a short period of time and this was even before the advent of oil as the main export commodity.
These potentials were so much that Nigeria was seen to becoming the most industrialized African
economy within a short period of time. The foundation of these potentials was laid by the agricultural
sector which effectively and efficiently played its traditional role which economic theory predicts it
should play in the path of economic development. According to Johnston and Mellor (1961), the roles
are as follows; Product contribution (source of food), Market contribution (buying and selling to earn
a living), Factor contribution (serves as raw materials for industries) and Foreign exchange
contribution (through exportation). Despite the prominence of the oil sector in the past three decades,
agriculture remains arguably the largest and most important sector as its contribution to the gross
domestic product has remained stable between 30 and 42 percent, also it employs about 65 per cent

Domestic Abuse
Abuse occurs when people mistreat or misuse other people, showing no concern for their integrity or
intent worth as individuals. There are different types of abuse, examples are, family abuse, neglect,
and emotional abuse. On average, most children that grow up in an abusive home are most likely to
become abusive towards their spouse and or kids. Family abuse can be the worse because it affects the
whole family. Emotional abuse affects the inside and that can be mentally damaging. Most of the time,
neglect abuse is not always intentional. It s caused by inexperienced parents not knowing how to raise
the child. This paper, will focus on the affects domestic abuse has on children. When children are
exposed to family violence, it effect the children mentally and physically. It makes kids fearful of
other adults or elders. The child could start to lie about the abuse and start to feel that it s their fault.
Which makes them afraid to even talk to their own family about the abuse. It can lead the child to
abuse drugs when they get older. Children can even grow up to resent their parents for abusing them
or to even let it happen. The child can grow up to feel that it s ok to hit their loved ones or be ... Show

article, DeJesus talks about how two Michelin starred chef Joshua Skenes is partnering with Adam

Here guests will be able to dine on the recipes of Joshua Skenes for $6 10 per meal. So now we have
high quality chefs who want to dive into this industry by creating a fast fine casual restaurant. These
restaurants can be characterized by their quality of food, speed of service, as well as their price point.
According to Ethan Stowell, the chef s approach to product and the guest s experience is where the
fine dining sensibility can make the biggest impact on a fast casual restaurant. I don t think they are
much different than running higher end places, he says of the fast casual market. The goals are still the

I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud, By John Muir And William...
Albert Einstein spoke of nature and its value when he said, Look deep into nature, and then you will
understand everything better. As Einstein pointed out, by looking into nature you could discover
something new about yourself and the world around you. John Muir and William Wordsworth both
discovered joy when they looked deep into nature. This joy gave them a new perspective on nature
and life and they each expressed this joy through different works of writing. Both authors have a
unique outlook on nature and its impact as well as different thoughts on how to share their
relationships; Muir used diction and connotation to show his relationship in his essay The Calypso
Borealis where Wordsworth used tone and syntax in his poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud .
John Muir expressed his relationship with nature in his essay titled The Calypso Borealis by using
diction and connotation. John Muir described the Calypso and its surroundings when he wrote:

joyful because he is happy when he talks about how beautiful the daffodils are. This shows how his
relationship with nature is positive since he is happy when watching the daffodils. Wordsworth uses
traditional syntax in this stanza. He uses several phrases divided by commas to describe the daffodils
and their movements. This gives the stanza a playful pace which again expresses that his relationship
with nature is happy and

In general, Indonesia has been considered successful to reduce fertility and mortality rates. The total
fertility rate (TFR) in Indonesia decreased significantly from the average of 5.6 children per female in
1971 to 4.6 in 1980, from about 3.3 in 1987 decreased to 3.02 in 1990 and continuously dropped to

2002, 2003), the TFR was 2.7 and declined to 2.6 children per female.

Meanwhile, the crude death rate in Indonesia in 1970 was 17, 7.9 in 1988, increased slightly to 9 in

U.s. School Military Leadership
In recent years women in the United States have been making advancements in leadership roles. One
place that women, in the past, had not been able to take on more power is the military. In just the past
few years women have been allowed to serve in combat roles, however little advancements have been
made for them to serve in special operation forces. In just the last few weeks some this has been
questioned as two women are about to graduate from ranger school. Having women graduating from
ranger school, a grueling leadership course in the military, shows advancements women are making in
leadership roles today. The fact that these two women have been able to make it to graduation at an
elite military leadership course is huge. This is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However there are still many obstacles for female advancements. While these two women were able to
graduate from the ranger program, according to military rules, even though they have completed the
ranger program they are not allowed to try out or serve on the ranger regiment (Oppel). This shows the
heavy divide in female to male leadership roles. Despite the heavy restrictions placed on female
soldiers this new development may be just what is needed to allow women to have a place in higher
leadership roles. According to Oppel the Army and other branches of service have until January 1st to
decide what jobs are going to be open to women. This shows the leading role these women have
already taken on. They are setting the way for other women to make advancements in all fields.
Women have been taking on more responsibility in the military as time has moved on. They have
served our nation in combat and some have even been a part of support teams to help Ranger and
Navy SEALS in the past. According to Oppel, some women even perform intelligence gathering as
part of SEAL Team 6 s top secret Black Squadron. This shows that women have been a vital part of
military victories for years. One commander mentioned in Oppel piece in defense of women is
Colonel Fivecoat. He said that he would always make sure two women would be assigned to his

Animal Therapy Helps Improve Human s Emotions And Disorders
Animals have served humans in more than one way including as a source of food, improving our
health, and service in working. They have helped in all of these fields, and humans have grown fond
of them. Nowadays, it is seen that people grow to love their pets, and there are many organizations
fighting for animal rights. Pet owners are extremely attached, so they suffer a lot of pain when the
animal dies. According to a study done in Romania concerning pet loss, humans like having pets and
adopting them because they like caring for a being that is dependent on them. In all aspects of the
relationship between animals and humans, they have helped each other in many ways. Animal therapy
helps improve human s emotions and disorders because of the fact that we like to be nurtured and
taken care of.
Since the 9th century, animal therapy has been active in different fields. The human and animal
interaction has a special connection that can help people emotionally. According to the website of Dr.
Carol R. Hughes, a licensed therapist, the interaction has the ability to heal and assist humans with
mental disorders and emotional problems and also dwells incredible healing powers (Hughes, p. 1).
Sigmund Freud, a well known neurologist felt that dogs had a special sense that allows them to judge

The Archetypal Themes Of Feminism In Beauty And The Beast
In the 1991 movie Beauty and the Beast the Narrator said, She warned him not to be deceived by
appearances, for beauty is found within. this quote refers to the archetypal theme of the Beauty and the
Beast. However, this archetypal theme of Beauty and the Beast is coincidentally parallel to the Shrek
movie. This essay will broaden your view on the themes of Beauty and the Beast and Shrek, . When
the fairy tale story Beauty and the Beast is evaluated from the critical viewpoints of Archetypal,
Feminism, and Morals, readers may discover that Shrek shares the same viewpoints.
To analyze the critical viewpoint of feminism in the stories of Beauty the Beast and Shrek, certain
questions a feminist would ask should be answered. For instance, Is the society in the story
Patriarchal? How does the society oppress women? The societies that Belle (Beauty the Beast) and
Fiona (Shrek) lived in were both patriarchal.Women were seen as objects instead of people with a vast
amount of capabilities.Regardless of Belle and Fiona s expectations from their fellow neighbors Belle
was able to save her dad by sacrificing herself to the Beast. In addition, Fiona beat up Robin Hood just
as he was trying to save her when she didn t need saving. In the societies of Shrek and Beauty the
Beast guys like Lord Farquad and Gaston oppressed women. The characters Gaston (Beauty the Beast)

Due to land fragmentation, farmers with small land holding are buying tractor. Shift from joint family

Essay On The Y Chromosome
Clearly the choo choo was chugging faster now so I scrolled down for backup. My mom? God,
no...this would just be confirmation that the Y chromosome should be erased from humanity. My

was at work. Hester? Got a minute? Hey, birthday girl! What s up? My sister s voice, always on the
loud side, boomed out of my phone, and I held it away from my ear. Hester, I bleated, he s seeing

My Father Was a Paradox Essay
I ll miss my father, I already miss him, greatly... I ll miss his stories, his laughter, the fire of his
opinions, and especially the quiet strength of him. Yet, I think it s one of the truths of the world that
the people we miss the most are also the ones that we can t miss, because we carry so much of them
with us.
My father was something of a paradox. On the one hand he stands out in my mind for his stories, his
wit, and the fire of his opinions. Anyone who s argued with him, and that s quite a few of us, knew
that he had strong opinions and argued them with zeal. On the other hand, at the same time, he was a
quiet man, who kept a lot of what he felt on the inside, someone who taught more by example than by
lecture.

I ll never, in this life at least, be able to go to him for any more answers, but as long as I live, I ll do
what he taught me... ask the questions, think, and find my own answers. And in my heart and in my
memory, he ll be there by example, guiding me. And with him will be his stories. He was full of
stories. There was nothing he didn t have a story or a joke for. And he was always such a wonderful
subject for stories.
I cannot forget his tale about sneaking into the doctor s office with his friend so they could memorize

Stories about the man who unscrewed the table leg that came between him and the pretty woman

The General Theory Of Crime Essay
Main Body As the nineties began, the general theory of crime became the most prominent
criminological theory ever proposed; furthermore, it is empirically recognized as the primary
determinant in deviant and criminal behaviors. Known also as the self control theory, the general
theory of crime can most simply be defined as the absence or lack of self control that an individual
possesses, which in turn may lead them to commit unusual and or unlawful deeds. Authored by
educator Michael R. Gottfredson and sociologist Travis Hirschi, A General Theory of Crime (1990)
essentially dumbed down every theory of crime into two words, self control. The widely accepted
book holds that low self control is the main reason that a person initiates all crimes, ranging from
murder and rape to burglary and embezzlement. Gottfredson and Hirschi also highlighted, in A
General Theory of Crime (1990), that low self control correlates with personal impulsivity. This
impulsive attitude leads individuals to become insensitive to deviant behaviors such as smoking,
drinking, illicit sex, and gambling (p. 90). The extreme simplicity, yet accuracy, of Gottfredson s and
Hirschi s general theory of crime (self control theory), make it the most empirically supported theory
of criminal conduct, as well as deviant acts. First off, there have been ample amounts of disapproval in
relation to the general theory of crime, because many scholars feel that Gottfredson and Hirschi
(1990) failed to include the

General Review of Algorithms Presented for Image Segmentation
Image segmentation commonly known as partitioning of an image is one of the intrinsic parts of any
image processing technique. In this image pre processing step, the digital image of choice is
segregated into sets of pixels on the basis of some predefined and preselected measures or standards.
There have been presented many algorithms for segmenting a digital image. This paper presents a
general review of algorithms that have been presented for the purpose of image segmentation.
Segmenting or dividing a digital image into region of interests or meaningful structures in general
plays a momentous role in quite a few image processing tasks. Image analysis, image visualization,
object representation are some of them. The prime objective of segmenting a digital image is to
change its representation so that it looks more expressive for image analysis. During the course of
action in image segmentation, each and every pixel of the image segmentation is assigned a label or
value. The pixels that share the same value also share homogeneous traits. The examples can include
color, texture, intensity or some other features. Image segmentation can be defined as the technique to
divide the an image f (x, y) into a non empty subset f1, f2, ...., fn which is continuous and
disconnected. This step contributes in feature extraction. There are quite a few applications where
image segmentation plays a pivotal role. These applications vary from image filtering, face
recognition, medical imaging

The administrative goal of any correctional facility is to ensure the safety and security of the facility,
staff, and inmates. Inmates that possess certain characteristics that require additional or different care
than others are often called a special offender population. The label of special offender population can
relate to mental health capacity, gang affiliation, age, or gender identity disorder. Each of these
populations of inmates require the correctional administration and officers to consider alternative
forms of risk assessment at intake, alternative treatment and control, and possible alternatives to

There is not a plethora of research on the transgender inmate population. Brown and McDuffie (2009)
report 750 transgender prisoners were in custody in 2007. The only reason this population is last on
the list of importance is because of the limited population. Transgender inmate population pose one of
the most challenging legal questions to the DOC. How far does the DOC have to go in providing
medical, psychiatric, or surgical needs to those inmates who enter the correctional facility as
transgender (Brown McDuffie, 2009). There has been some successful litigation that has addressed
these issues with inmates who have been diagnosed with gender identity disorders (GID). Brown and
McDuffie (2009), suggest California has some of the most comprehensive directive that allows
inmates to continue or initiate cross sex hormones for appropriately diagnosed inmates (p.288).
Ultimately, the transgender population pose a real threat to the correctional environment, such as,
safety issues and predatory behavior by other inmates. One area of concern for transgender inmate
population, because it is such a relatively new population, there are not a lot of facilities medically
equipped to care for them properly (Brown McDuffie, 2009), a lot like the elderly inmate population.
This population is as equally at risk of being violated as any of the other special

The Da Vinci Robot
 Abstract
With the utilization of robotics in complicated surgeries, surgeons are able to perform the required
tasks with the use of precision offered by robots. The utilization of robotics minimizes surgery trauma,
increases dexterity, offers a wider range of motion, and allows improved access to obstructed organs.
The da Vinci Robot is a revised, upgraded and an enhanced machine from its predecessors and its
original design made by Leonardo da Vinci. A company in California was able to evolve the design of
the da Vinci robotic system. Four models were made by Intuitive Surgical, the standard original
model, model S, model Si, and the most recent one, model Xi. The da Vinci Surgical System is now a

The dVSS was FDA approved in the year 2000. The da Vinci has 2,250+ patents and additional 1,550
pending. The system is available in 6 continents, 64 countries, and 50 states (Intuitive Surgical 2017).
The surgical system is capable of operating in many different categories such as Cardiac, Colorectal,
Gynecologic, Head Neck, Thoracic, Urologic, and General surgeries. Unfortunately, the surgical
system does not complete the required tasks on its own, it s controlled by an onsite/offsite surgeon
whilst the patient is monitored by a surgical team onsite in case of data communication failure. The da
Vinci Surgical System (dVSS) functions as a telemanipulator, meaning any motion the surgeon
performs with their hand, the robot will replicate. The system works as a slave for and copies its
master s movement. In most cases, the dVSS is utilized at onsite surgeries; however, the dVSS is
capable of accomplishing full off site surgeries. For instance, a patient may be located at a hospital in
Houston, and the surgeon could be working at a hospital in Seattle. The dVSS s new model (XI)
consists of four main components, Surgeon Console, Patient Side Cart, Endowrist Instruments, and the
Vision System.

The Importance Of Kindergarten Readiness
Some may base a young child s kindergarten readiness on mental abilities or academic skills. A skill
that is just as important is a child s self regulation. Self regulation in young children involves the
ability to control behaviors, emotions, attention, and thinking. Self regulation is a theory, so there isn t
a single satisfactory definition of the term created by developmentalists. In order to track a child s
progress in terms of their self regulation skill, as well as other domains, it is appropriate protocol to
observe and assess children.
A child s success in academic and social domains during kindergarten relies on the child s
kindergarten readiness. Kindergarten readiness is not solely based on academic abilities; it also
depends on other aspects, such as the essential skill of self regulation. In the article Refining the
Preschool Self regulation Assessment for Use in Preschool Classrooms, the authors found that there is
a growing interest in young children s self regulation skills. One goal of the authors was to examine
any noticeable differences between children s age, gender, or socioeconomic risk in regards to their
self regulation abilities. Ceiling effects caused some worry, due to the possibilities of causing
difficulties in identifying differences between the comparable groups.
The study took place in northern Virginia. The participants in the study included 140 preschoolers

How And Interrupt Harmful Interaction Patterns Within A...
To help identify and interrupt harmful interaction patterns within a family, I would start with the
assessment and diagnosis process, here the therapist will see tedious patterns of each member. As
counselor, I will center on what is being stated by the family members, discussing the family s history,
physiognomies and nature of the interaction that have taken place within the family, and what they
have attempted to do in order eliminating the issues. All done within a serene setting, that is designed

Privacy Before And During The Job
Privacy before and during the Job In today s world, privacy is something that is hard to come by.
Every second of ever day a person is generally being watched. This could include traditional eye
contact spying, but it goes much deeper. A person s social media can be stalked, a person could be
caught performing a variety of actions on both security cameras and everyday cell phone cameras,
keylogging software is out there that can track a person s every keystroke, email and phone
conversations can be tapped and much more. A person that is applying for a job must be careful and
they must carry that carefulness into the workplace with them. Privacy is an important aspect of a

Before the crisis of invasive species destroying the environment, it was normal for people to dump
invasive species into lakes, streams, and rivers, but in today s society, releasing and bringing invasive
species into the environment has come to a near existent halt.
When the Welland Canal was built in 1829, it created more connecting routes between the Great
Lakes. In addition, it allowed larger boats to make their way upstream into the lakes when previously,
only smaller, local boats were able to travel in the small rivers and streams. Allowing the larger boat
meant that it would speed up the process of invasive species being brought into the great lakes. On top
of that, this was greatly increased by the lack of cleaning of the canals which allowed many boats to
get from one lake to the next without being hosed down allowing species to survive and flourish. One
of these many species was well known aquatic weed called Curly Pondweed. It was brought into the
Great Lakes in 1879 and quickly spread, growing until it was so overabundant that the sunlight was
blocked from entering the water. The lack of sunlight caused many fish and other aquatic organisms to
die due to the lack of oxygen. This lack of oxygen created a vacuum that destroyed the majority of the
organisms in the lake only allowing the few that were able to survive with very little oxygen. The
Curly Pondweed was one of the organisms that destroyed the Great

Juan Pujol Garcia s Operation Failure
Winston Churchill famously said, In time of war, when truth is so precious, it must be attended by a
bodyguard of lies (Churchill, 1986, p. 338). The bodyguard of lies which attended the Allied Forces
invasion of Normandy, France (codenamed Operation NEPTUNE) on 6 June 1944 was a large scale
deception operation, codenamed Operation FORTITUDE. A single British double agent operation was
the linchpin of this deception operation. This double agent succeeded in stalling Nazi reinforcements
to the Normandy for two months, thereby reducing Allied Forces casualties and saving the beachhead
expansion. Had German intelligence prioritized acquiring additional human intelligence and taken
greater care in vetting this agent, they would have seen through the deception and sent adequate forces
to counter the Allied beach landings at Normandy. Juan Pujol Garcia: A Brief History The man who
would become the greatest double agent of the Second World War began his under unique

Music Analysis Of The Film Music Of King Kong 1933
Terrance Mesadieu
Music Analysis
King Kong 1933 King Kong is the perfect example of the early development of motion picture music
in the twentieth century. The music was not only essential to the film, but musical scores also made
the film better for the audience. Clever composers created a true musical drama; Max Steiner was
known for his musical ability including films like Gone with the Wind. Steiner spent a lot of amount
on the music of film King Kong 1933. The music meant everything to that picture, and the picture
meant everything to RKO, because it saved the studio from bankruptcy.... The impact of King Kong
on the movie going public was astonishing. It emerged into a country frightened, impoverished, in the
grip of the Great Depression. The main instrument used in the film music was orchestra which was
perfectly aligned with the theme of characters in the film at various points. Steiner developed the
music in the symphonic fashion which allowed the film to hit a high score musically and became a
symphonic fashion. The usage of the cycle of operas was brilliant with a soothing tune to the ears. The
Main Title music opens with King Kong s three note motive; heard throughout the entire score in
many sections and guises, but always identifying King Kong himself. The film has a fifty foot giant
that depicted a lot of terror to the audience which was facilitated by music; the main title continues
with the stolen love of the heroine of the movie. Ann Darrow played the heroine who was saved
dramatically by the king kong, and she fell in love with him. Her love for her lifesaver and her further
development of the relationship with the gorilla was the core of music and the film. The jungle dance
was a faster tune with continuous rhythm, while after the jungle dance, music became much softer,
romantic and lush. The entrance of the Kong was a long sequence which was created by Steiner in an
orchestral tradition. Viola and Celesta players were given a few notes to play quickly along with some
violence in some passages. The recording and the whole thing had a great feeling about it; the natives
there was a 2 phase theme which opened like an Indian descending line. Each of the themes including

The Crucible Critical Analysis
The English philosopher, Sir Francis Bacon, once wrote, Reading maketh a full man; conference a
ready man; and writing an exact man . Bacon expresses three ideas about how processing literature
affects an individual. To explain, reading fills one s mind with knowledge and ideas, talking about
those ideas makes one adaptable to differences in others, and writing forces one is define one s beliefs
and opinions. In room 303, Bacon s three statements are practiced regularly, as students read and
annotate out of the hymnals, discuss major texts in class, and write essays each week over the
material. During the last semester alone the Junior Honors English class read several texts by
American Authors from the ancient oral cosmogonist myths of Native Americans to the Feminist
literature of the 1890 s. In the entire range of different texts read, three specific texts were the most
important in room 303. The Crucible by Arthur Miller makes one reflect on one s morals as the play
unfolds. The 1953 play revolves around the town of puritan Salem and the actual people and events of
the famous Salem witch trials. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in the height of the Red Scare, and
his play reveals the mass hysteria and paranoia which plagued America at the time. Many of the
innocent people accused in both Salem and in the 1950 s faced not only a biased court, but a
questioning of morality as the choice often was oneself gets jacked or one discloses one s cohorts in

The Environment Of Psychiatric Facilities, Regional West...
The environment that surrounds an individual is vital to their health and wellbeing. This is specifically
true when considering healing, especially in the hospital environment. A more appropriate term for
this is milieu therapy. Halter (2013) defined this as a psychiatric philosophy that involves a secure
environment (including people, setting, structure, and emotional climate) to effect positive change (p.
677). This paper will discuss the environment of two psychiatric facilities, Regional West and

The Importance Of Cultural Heritage
In an era of globalization governed by financial targets and money return, cultural heritage being an
important humanity asset becomes victim of oppressive and destroying actions meant to institute
economic and social progress. Cultural destructiveness and ignorance are observed in Banksy s graffiti
of a worker jet blasting over prehistoric art from a city wall. As progress along with mass and cyber
media tend to gain territory and people s sympathy, we must be responsible to safeguard the cultural
legacy which is the basis of humanity. Marcus Garvey said, A people without the knowledge of their
past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots. (Brainy Quote). Being unique and
irreplaceable, cultural heritage keeps us attached to our religion, customs and ancestors and charges us
to preserve it for the future generations. However, culture loss or deculturation becomes a living threat
caused by rapid modernization. Culture cannot fit itself in a money oriented and fast paced world
where people have a tendency to become materialistic. Globalization as a promoter of integration of
societies and new opportunities is in fact a culture killer which causes loss of identity. How can
antique or medieval art protect itself or withstand the contemporary art when our society insists to take
the plunge into globalization? Murzacov 2 A vivid example of modernization taking over the cultural
heritage is the city of Manilla, Philippines presented by the reporter, Erika

2.1.4 Swaps
Swap is an agreement that investors exchange cash flows at a specific time in the future. Generally,
both parties believe their exchanges are the same amount of cash flows. The most common swaps are
interest rate swap and currency swap. The transaction needs a dealer to realise and dealers get the
profits from transaction cost and the bid ask spread of the cash flows.
Take interest rate swap as an example, the hedgers may wish to have a certain fixed interest payment
for their loans. By contrast, the speculators are more willing to take a floating interest payment either
they have the same amount of loan or not. The dealer combine these two counterparties together and
create the swap for the exchange of fixed interest rate and floating interest rate (Simons Horward,
2003). To the interest payment data, the hedger pays the fixed interests to the speculator and received
the floating interests according to the dealer. Then they pay the floating interests to the cash market. In
this case, they only pay the fixed interest rate as agreed before and eliminate the risk of interest rate
uncertainty. For the speculators, they pay the floating interests and receive the fixed interests. If the
floating interest rate is greater than the fixed one, then they suffer a loss, otherwise they get the profits.
Generally, individuals and non banking institutions are able to be the dealer which may cause default

Analysis of the Financial and the Profitability Ratios
1. Current Ratio helps us measure the ability of a company to pay off its short term debts using its
most liquid assets. 1.5 is the benchmark. If it s less than 1 that means the company is not able to meet
its current liabilities using its liquid assets.

Current Ratio 0.90 1.05 1.03 0.86
Interpretation and Explanation
In case of BBC, we can observe a positive trend. There has been a significant increase in the ratio.
However in 2007, the company s current liabilities were higher than the current assets. But over the
next two consecutive years 2008 and 2009, the company s assets were enough to pay off the short
term debts, and this is a positive sign. Talking about the current year 2010, the current ratio is below
the benchmark, but the cash reserves are more. we can see a constant change in the values of current
assets in a positive trend for last three years, however, not for the year 2010. Again there has been
increase in current liabilities substantially. This can be one of the reasons for a funding cut of ÂŁ340m
this year by BBC as George Osborne confirms the news on Oct 20th 2010.

INTRODUCTION
Traditionally, an Indian woman had only four roles and those were; Her role as a daughter, wife, sister,
and lastly, a mother. The women in today s time however are experiencing far reaching changes and
are entering into new fields that were unknown to them. They are actively participating in social,
economic and political activities. Unlike the older times, women today have received higher
education. Rig Vedic women in India enjoyed high status in society and their condition was good.

Women today participate fully in activities such as education, sports, politics, media, art and culture,
service sectors, science and technology, etc.
This timeline shows some of the cases that helped women achieve a better position in society and
break the stereotypes of just sitting at home and working.
In the 1970 s feminist activism gained momentum in India. One of the first national issues that
brought women s groups together was the Mathura rape case. Since alcoholism is often associated
with violence against women in India a lot of women groups launched anti liquor groups in Andhra
Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh.
In the 1990 s foreign donor agencies enabled the formation of new women oriented NGO s. Self help
groups such as Self Employed Women s Empowerment (SEWA) have played a major role in the
advancement of women s rights in India. Many women such as Medha Patkar of the Narmada Bachao

St. Dismas Assisted Living Facility Project Action Plan --...
1. Draw a Gantt chart for the construction phase of the program. What is the completion date if
construction starts in March? What is the completion date of the project if construction is started in
November? If the project is started on March 1st, 2012, the finish date is July 30th, 2013. For the
November start date, the case does not mention exactly what date the project should start but rather
mentions that it should start after the elections. We do not have the election date so I will assume a
start date of November 14th, 2011, which is a Monday. In this case, the end date of the project would
be April 11th, 2013. However, the case states that if the project starts in November, bad weather could

A February start might not cause the 2 months delay, as would a November start. 3. When will the
project be completed based on your recommendation? Start date of January 30th, 2012. The first 45
units would be ready May 23rd, 2013 with the entire project being completed June 27rd, 2013. The
Gantt chart displayed in Annex, chart c). 4. Develop a Gantt Chart of the Marketing Plan and
Implementation Phase of the Program. Determine the start date of the Marketing Plan project in order
to meet your recommended facility ready for occupancy date? I will consider the project dates stated
in question 3 for this question and also consider that occupancy may begin when the first 45 units are
ready, which is May 23rd, 2013. This means that the Marketing Plan and Implementation must be
completed by this date. The Marketing VP states that she needs 5 months lead time for the
implementation of the plan and thus, must begin 5 months prior to May 23rd, 2013. With the Gantt
chart, found in Annex, chart d), this gives us a start date of September 14th, 2012. 5. What is the next
step the team members must take in order to complete their project plans? The must allocate resources
and must compile the different projects into one, making sure that predecessor are accurate in respect
to the different phases. Just as the Marketing dates are affected by the Construction dates, Legal

Communist Party And Its Muslim Minorities
On September 23rd 2014, China found the prominent Uyghur scholar Ilham Tohti guilty of separatism
and sentenced him to life in prison. This ruling came as a shock to the international community, for he
has been the foremost advocate of peacefully resolving Uyghur ethnic unrest in China. Ilham Tohti is
an ethnically Uyghur economist, professor, writer, and public intellectual who has been spearheading
the vanguard of cultivating mutual understanding and respect amongst Han and Uyghur Chinese. He
has been steadfast on working within the system to finding a solution that will be mutually beneficial
for the Communist Party and the Uyghur ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, home to many of China s
ethnic Turkic Muslims. Even in the face of adversity, he has been outspoken and quick to criticize the
missteps of the Communist Party s governance and policies towards Xinjiang province and its Muslim
minorities. Due to that, the CCP views him as a threat, rather than a solution, to the extreme affairs of
episodic ethnic and political unrest in Xinjiang. With the growing resentment from the Uyghur
populous towards government s policies, the tensions in the Xinjiang region between Muslim Uyghur
minorities and Han Chinese have escalated to waves of terrorist attacks around China, with the recent
stabbing in Kunming, being dubbed as China s 9/11 . In response, the CCP has imposed a more
oppressive campaign to crackdown on the separatists and stabilize the region. In this plight,

George Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion Critique Values And...
Pygmalion Essay
Essay question: Plays make powerful comments about societal structures. How does Shaw s
Pygmalion critique values and attitudes prevalent in the early 1900 s?
George Bernard Shaw was an Irish immigrant in England, ostracised from society because of his
appearance and heritage rather than from judgement of his person, this kept him apart from most
social classes of the time. This feeling of not fitting in may have inspired Shaw to write the play
Pygmalion which premiered in 1914 to comment on the shallow nature of the people of this era and
satirise the class system. To do this Shaw introduced Eliza Doolittle, a class chameleon, to guide the
audience through the corrupt social hierarchy and give light to those who don t have a real place in the
structure, like himself and Eliza who are judged based on appearance and speech. Shaw confronted his
audience with his satirical reflection of reality; speech defines a persons class instead of what they
have to say and to appear beautiful is more important than to be kind. Emphasising these important
aspects in different ways in various characters gives an interesting view on how this class system
influenced the people in their context. Pygmalion is a both reflection of influence of class and the
values it promotes which Shaw skilfully uses to criticise inequality of all those within it.
Shaw critiques the shallow views of people from the 1900 s by completely disregarding their belief in
the correlation between

the aircraft to crash. Thus, pilot fatigues, improper recovery form a stall were contributing factors. The

Research Paper On Putin
Political Profile: Russian President Vladimir Putin Placing Vladimir Putin accurately on the political
spectrum presents several challenges. First, Russia s political system does not conform to western
norms and therefore the standard definitions are not always appropriate. Putin, who spent a career in
the KGB, is seen as highly secretive. He does not make frequent public speeches, and in general,
Russian leaders do not typically feel the need to explain policy decisions or their rationale to the
general populace. This makes it difficult to determine to what degree necessity and practicality
motivates Putin s decisions versus his own political philosophy. The lack of transparency in the
Russian system further precludes detailed assessment or evaluation of leaders and their decisions such
as would be demanded in western democracies. The Russian state owns 85% of the national media,
rendering independent and unbiased scrutiny impossible. For all these reasons, Putin is enigmatic to
most of the world outside his own country and therefore determining his personal political philosophy
is not an easy task.
Vladimir Putin was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the President has broad authority to issue decrees and directives that have the force of
law without legislative review, which means power is concentrated in the office of the President,
instead of in the hands of the electorate. This follows a long tradition of strong central leadership
dating back to the Tsars. Putin s party, United Russia, does not have a well defined platform or
ideology insofar as the party itself was created by Putin and exists to support his policies, as opposed
to western democratic systems where the leader expresses and represents the views of the party.
Insofar as defining Putin on the political spectrum, most experts consider him to be an authoritarian
right wing

Analysis Of The Estrangement By Jamaica Kincaid, My Speech...
One s judgement of others is a commonality amongst all people; however, to admit one is wrong about
one s perceptions is infrequent. In both essays, The Estrangement by Jamaica Kincaid, and My Speech
at West Point by Marjane Satrapi in the book The Writer s Presence, the writers make comment on
their life experiences particularly about their bad judgment of others and the impact that has had on
them. Kincaid s essay is about the rough relationship she had with her mother and how her criticism of
her changed after her experience as a mother. Similarly, Satrapi writes about the point in her life she
began learning one she realizes that the view she had of the people in her country was wrong during
her time at West Point. Both provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, she accepts her mistake and learns from her experience by acknowledging it, I don t
know anything (Kincaid 249). Ultimately, Satrapi conveys that there not only needs to be progress in
her country, but in her thinking as well. This brings to light how the only way to diminish social
issues, our opinions need to be altered.
Likewise, Kincaid wrongly judges her mother. In her essay, The Estrangement she tells that she
stopped talking to her mother after she spoke unkindly about her in a conversation they had through
the phone. She describes her mother as a person that was seen as nice by others, but not by her nor her
younger siblings. She asserts that her mother, said horrible things to us more often than not and that
the nice person everyone saw in her was not at all known to us (Kincaid 170). In other words, her
mother was unaffectionate to them. A statement she makes evident when she tells about the time his
step father was buried next to her mother and her uncertainty of whether he would have liked that
based on her and her siblings preferences. She claims, we would rather be dead than spend eternity
lying next to her (Kincaid 170). In other terms, they despised her mother for the treatment she gave
them. However, later in the text, there is a shift in tone: from hate to acknowledgement and love. Her
perception of her mother changes after she realizes how

Bilingual-Bicultural Approach
Having a father with hearing loss I know a little about hearing aids and some of the testing that people
go through. I also knew that volume of the person speaking can be a sign of hearing loss, having a
former employ and friend who are both loud and both have partial hearing loss. I did also know about
the structure of the ear from biology courses and that hearing is measured in decibels. I did know that
children with hearing issues are normal or even gifted but they just may struggle from the lack of
hearing.

more stress to the family and it is obvious that they do not want my help or opinion that is all I can do
regarding the family. I can do my best to help him learn in school and that will probably be the extent
of what I could do. Newly learned: I found it interesting that people who use American Sign Language

are deaf or have hearing loss was interesting. Also learning that their reading levels are lower was a
new concept to me but it makes sense if you aren t seeing and hearing the letters and the sounds that
they go with them; they may not have as much meaning at first. I was glad for the promising element s
of reading instruction for children. I want to teach math, using captions or stories may help with the

Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs
You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact, approximately 67
million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership).
But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves
and the cat descended from some larger wild cat but it is a little more complicated than that.
So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with
humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than 34
million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of
the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC
Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the 1700
s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as companions (Pushy
Plants).
Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North
America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw that
they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store crops,
such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and
the people appreciated cats even more (Zax).
The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists

On Tolkien s The Lord of the Rings
Final Paper Evaluation Argument A Paper on the Complete Awesomeness of The Lord of the Rings by
J.R.R. Tolkien A good book according to Jim Menick, a writer for Reader Digest, must have
believable and lovable characters, narrative drive, and stories that are entertaining rather than
disturbing (Menick). A story s characters must have depth, and feel real to the reader. If a character
seems false, the whole book will. A book has to have a captivating storyline or readers will lose
interest, it has to hold their attention; a good story line is the backbone of any good book. Finally, a
good book must transport the reader into the world of the story, whether it is a future civilization, a

Around the time of World War I and World War II Tolkien could see that the world was becoming
more globalized, industrialized, and that many cultures and nations were being overshadowed by
others that thought themselves superior. The Lord of the Rings has a hidden point to be made, a point
that goes farther that the Ring or the Fellowship; it is that language is just as important and as much a
part of culture as the people and histories themselves, and it must be preserved. Tolkien uses much
imagery in The Lord of the Rings, so much that reading the book almost becomes like reading a
geography book. David Day wrote A Tolkien Bestiary in which is an alphabetical list of all of the
creatures, peoples, places, and plants mentioned throughout Tolkien s books, notes and letters. In Day
s book he created a map of Middle Earth and the Undying Lands using Tolkien s descriptions in his
works. Figure http://aidanmoher.com/blog/page/3/ Few books on the market today provide such
stunning details about the settings features, few authors think it matters, but it really adds to the story
and can make a reader feel as if they have just fallen through a portal into another world. Though the
complete history of Middle Earth and its people are not given fully in any of The Lord of the Rings
books, Tolkien comprised an actual history for this world. In most books a character will say, I d tell

  • 2. Merce Cunningham s Influence On Contemporary Dance In my opinion, Merce Cunningham is the most influential person in the history of contemporary dance. Cunningham was both a dancer and in the early 1940s began to choreograph. A former dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Cunningham went on to found the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, where many of the dancers went on to become prestigious choreographers as well. In his works, the choreography, music and design all work separately yet together. Through his belief that anything can follow anything (Au 155), use of space and music, exploration of chance, is what makes Merce Cunningham the most influential person in the history of dance. As written in Ballet and Modern Dance, The choreographer played the role of the painter, selecting what the viewer saw and directing his focus to different performers or areas of the stage (155). This statement describes Merce Cunningham s approach to choreography and space perfectly. In Cunningham s works, there is no front and center spot. The front and center spot takes place all over the stage and the performance can be viewed from any angle. Also, Independence was central in Cunningham s works. For example, the video shown in class of the dancers in the warehouse, shows the dancers at every angle and even when the camera focuses on one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often times, as discussed in class, the dancers that worked with Merce, would not hear the music they would be dancing to until it came time to perform. He absorbed the aspects of everyday, or pedestrian, movements into his works. Cunningham rewrote the traditional relationship between dance and music: dancers did not dance to the music. • 4. Adoration Of The Magi Analysis The art piece that caught my attention was at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art. The piece is called The Adoration of the Magi, painted by Girolamo de Carpi. The Holy Family and the Three Magi s are illustrated in the painting. They seem to be sitting outside on the ground behind a home made of brick. A sense of space and perception is created because in the distance, behind the people in the painting there is a beautiful view of a mountain and the sun in the sky far from where the people are. In the artwork, de Carpi paints clothes on each person besides baby Christ, and the clothing differ in color; there is red, green, yellow, blue. The colors seemed somewhat bright, in a way indicating that the painting is representing a happy time. Also painted are horses depicted behind a short wall, next to the horses seems to be a servant giving one of the Magis a vessel of some sort. The idea of depicting this story from the Christian bible wasn t a new one, there are countless paintings depicting this same story, although, only one of the four gospels of the Bible actually mentions it. The story can originally be found in Matthew 2, saying that after Jesus was born, wise men came to Jerusalem from the east. They were looking for the child after seeing a star that meant the birth of the King of the Jews. When the King at the time, King Herod, heard of the mens search, he was curious and wanted to know more about his possible competitor. It was believed by his scribes and priests ... • 5. Essay On Reverse Discrimination Discrimination: treating a person or group differently when the reason is not relevant (Kaye and Thomson). A double standard is created when a rule or regulation does not fairly apply to all groups. An example of this is racism s double standard that has been created while trying to amend to unfairness created by racism. These double standard are hostile to attempts of true equality due to the harm it causes to the media/justice system create reverse discrimination, and affect college admissions unfairly. The double standard of racism affects the media/justice system by creating racist articles that are viewed as okay , viewing one form of racism acceptable while another not, and affecting opinions about what if fair and what is not. ... Also, without proper education on the topic students can easily see discrimination as a one way act and then be intolerant but, if taught well they will now that it can go both ways. Religion in Todays Society Religion has affected the human in many ways; rules, traditions, culture patterns, morality, etc. The most powerful and important role that religion plays is that how it controls the human. I believe that religion has created conflicts between people including whole countries. Religion has the societal effect of dividing people into us and them . This unfortunately has the same characteristics as any other form of discrimination, such a as racialism. Then, it would come very easy to consider us as the righteous and them as unrighteous. In the Virginia colony where Anglicanism ruled all citizens were required to attend church and to be catechized by a minister. If someone refused to do so they could be killed. Colonists were also required to financially support the church just as they would a governmental institution. They were not allowed to associate with anyone who was not of their faith unless they were attempting to convert people of differing faiths. With the above history, it is quite easy to see where there would be a need for separation of church and state. While the early colonists were in part coming here to create a better life for themselves they unfortunately brought with them the ideals of oppression and enacted them in their local townships. Religious oppression has eased up in today s modern American culture when compared with that of the early Americans, part of which can be seen through modern diversity educational practices as in Teaching Religion in Schools: Religious Rites and Ritual from Across the Globe. Statement of the Problem Non oil exports are made up of the agricultural sector, manufacturing sector and the service sector of an economy. Nigeria, like many other developing economies has over the years pursued the objective of accelerating the rate of development in the economy in a bid to transform into a developed country. The economy held so much hope for attainment of such goals within a short period of time and this was even before the advent of oil as the main export commodity. These potentials were so much that Nigeria was seen to becoming the most industrialized African economy within a short period of time. The foundation of these potentials was laid by the agricultural sector which effectively and efficiently played its traditional role which economic theory predicts it should play in the path of economic development. According to Johnston and Mellor (1961), the roles are as follows; Product contribution (source of food), Market contribution (buying and selling to earn a living), Factor contribution (serves as raw materials for industries) and Foreign exchange contribution (through exportation). Despite the prominence of the oil sector in the past three decades, agriculture remains arguably the largest and most important sector as its contribution to the gross domestic product has remained stable between 30 and 42 percent, also it employs about 65 per cent ... As Einstein pointed out, by looking into nature you could discover something new about yourself and the world around you. John Muir and William Wordsworth both discovered joy when they looked deep into nature. This joy gave them a new perspective on nature and life and they each expressed this joy through different works of writing. Both authors have a unique outlook on nature and its impact as well as different thoughts on how to share their relationships; Muir used diction and connotation to show his relationship in his essay The Calypso Borealis where Wordsworth used tone and syntax in his poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud . John Muir expressed his relationship with nature in his essay titled The Calypso Borealis by using diction and connotation. One place that women, in the past, had not been able to take on more power is the military. In just the past few years women have been allowed to serve in combat roles, however little advancements have been made for them to serve in special operation forces. In just the last few weeks some this has been questioned as two women are about to graduate from ranger school. While these two women were able to graduate from the ranger program, according to military rules, even though they have completed the ranger program they are not allowed to try out or serve on the ranger regiment (Oppel). This shows the heavy divide in female to male leadership roles. Despite the heavy restrictions placed on female soldiers this new development may be just what is needed to allow women to have a place in higher leadership roles. According to Oppel the Army and other branches of service have until January 1st to decide what jobs are going to be open to women. This shows the leading role these women have already taken on. They are setting the way for other women to make advancements in all fields. Women have been taking on more responsibility in the military as time has moved on. They have served our nation in combat and some have even been a part of support teams to help Ranger and Navy SEALS in the past. • 24. The General Theory Of Crime Essay Main Body As the nineties began, the general theory of crime became the most prominent criminological theory ever proposed; furthermore, it is empirically recognized as the primary determinant in deviant and criminal behaviors. Known also as the self control theory, the general theory of crime can most simply be defined as the absence or lack of self control that an individual possesses, which in turn may lead them to commit unusual and or unlawful deeds. Authored by educator Michael R. Gottfredson and sociologist Travis Hirschi, A General Theory of Crime (1990) essentially dumbed down every theory of crime into two words, self control. The widely accepted book holds that low self control is the main reason that a person initiates all crimes, ranging from murder and rape to burglary and embezzlement. Gottfredson and Hirschi also highlighted, in A General Theory of Crime (1990), that low self control correlates with personal impulsivity. This impulsive attitude leads individuals to become insensitive to deviant behaviors such as smoking, drinking, illicit sex, and gambling (p. 90). The extreme simplicity, yet accuracy, of Gottfredson s and Hirschi s general theory of crime (self control theory), make it the most empirically supported theory of criminal conduct, as well as deviant acts. First off, there have been ample amounts of disapproval in relation to the general theory of crime, because many scholars feel that Gottfredson and Hirschi (1990) failed to include the ... In this image pre processing step, the digital image of choice is segregated into sets of pixels on the basis of some predefined and preselected measures or standards. There have been presented many algorithms for segmenting a digital image. This paper presents a general review of algorithms that have been presented for the purpose of image segmentation. Segmenting or dividing a digital image into region of interests or meaningful structures in general plays a momentous role in quite a few image processing tasks. Image analysis, image visualization, object representation are some of them. The prime objective of segmenting a digital image is to change its representation so that it looks more expressive for image analysis. During the course of action in image segmentation, each and every pixel of the image segmentation is assigned a label or value. The pixels that share the same value also share homogeneous traits. The examples can include color, texture, intensity or some other features. Image segmentation can be defined as the technique to divide the an image f (x, y) into a non empty subset f1, f2, ...., fn which is continuous and disconnected. This step contributes in feature extraction. There are quite a few applications where image segmentation plays a pivotal role. In addition, it allowed larger boats to make their way upstream into the lakes when previously, only smaller, local boats were able to travel in the small rivers and streams. Allowing the larger boat meant that it would speed up the process of invasive species being brought into the great lakes. On top of that, this was greatly increased by the lack of cleaning of the canals which allowed many boats to get from one lake to the next without being hosed down allowing species to survive and flourish. The main instrument used in the film music was orchestra which was perfectly aligned with the theme of characters in the film at various points. Steiner developed the music in the symphonic fashion which allowed the film to hit a high score musically and became a symphonic fashion. The usage of the cycle of operas was brilliant with a soothing tune to the ears. The Main Title music opens with King Kong s three note motive; heard throughout the entire score in many sections and guises, but always identifying King Kong himself. The film has a fifty foot giant that depicted a lot of terror to the audience which was facilitated by music; the main title continues with the stolen love of the heroine of the movie. Ann Darrow played the heroine who was saved dramatically by the king kong, and she fell in love with him. Her love for her lifesaver and her further development of the relationship with the gorilla was the core of music and the film. The jungle dance was a faster tune with continuous rhythm, while after the jungle dance, music became much softer, romantic and lush. The entrance of the Kong was a long sequence which was created by Steiner in an orchestral tradition. Viola and Celesta players were given a few notes to play quickly along with some violence in some passages. The recording and the whole thing had a great feeling about it; the natives there was a 2 phase theme which opened like an Indian descending line. Each of the themes including love ... Bacon expresses three ideas about how processing literature affects an individual. To explain, reading fills one s mind with knowledge and ideas, talking about those ideas makes one adaptable to differences in others, and writing forces one is define one s beliefs and opinions. In room 303, Bacon s three statements are practiced regularly, as students read and annotate out of the hymnals, discuss major texts in class, and write essays each week over the material. During the last semester alone the Junior Honors English class read several texts by American Authors from the ancient oral cosmogonist myths of Native Americans to the Feminist literature of the 1890 s. In the entire range of different texts read, three specific texts were the most important in room 303. The Crucible by Arthur Miller makes one reflect on one s morals as the play unfolds. The 1953 play revolves around the town of puritan Salem and the actual people and events of the famous Salem witch trials. Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in the height of the Red Scare, and his play reveals the mass hysteria and paranoia which plagued America at the time. Many of the innocent people accused in both Salem and in the 1950 s faced not only a biased court, but a questioning of morality as the choice often was oneself gets jacked or one discloses one s cohorts in the crime. ... This is specifically true when considering healing, especially in the hospital environment. A more appropriate term for this is milieu therapy. Halter (2013) defined this as a psychiatric philosophy that involves a secure environment (including people, setting, structure, and emotional climate) to effect positive change (p. 677). • 38. The Importance Of Cultural Heritage In an era of globalization governed by financial targets and money return, cultural heritage being an important humanity asset becomes victim of oppressive and destroying actions meant to institute economic and social progress. Cultural destructiveness and ignorance are observed in Banksy s graffiti of a worker jet blasting over prehistoric art from a city wall. As progress along with mass and cyber media tend to gain territory and people s sympathy, we must be responsible to safeguard the cultural legacy which is the basis of humanity. Marcus Garvey said, A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots. (Brainy Quote). Being unique and irreplaceable, cultural heritage keeps us attached to our religion, customs and ancestors and charges us to preserve it for the future generations. However, culture loss or deculturation becomes a living threat caused by rapid modernization. Culture cannot fit itself in a money oriented and fast paced world where people have a tendency to become materialistic. Globalization as a promoter of integration of societies and new opportunities is in fact a culture killer which causes loss of identity. How can antique or medieval art protect itself or withstand the contemporary art when our society insists to take the plunge into globalization? Generally, both parties believe their exchanges are the same amount of cash flows. The most common swaps are interest rate swap and currency swap. The transaction needs a dealer to realise and dealers get the profits from transaction cost and the bid ask spread of the cash flows. Take interest rate swap as an example, the hedgers may wish to have a certain fixed interest payment for their loans. By contrast, the speculators are more willing to take a floating interest payment either they have the same amount of loan or not. The dealer combine these two counterparties together and create the swap for the exchange of fixed interest rate and floating interest rate (Simons Horward, 2003). To the interest payment data, the hedger pays the fixed interests to the speculator and received the floating interests according to the dealer. Then they pay the floating interests to the cash market. In this case, they only pay the fixed interest rate as agreed before and eliminate the risk of interest rate uncertainty. For the speculators, they pay the floating interests and receive the fixed interests. If the floating interest rate is greater than the fixed one, then they suffer a loss, otherwise they get the profits. Ilham Tohti is an ethnically Uyghur economist, professor, writer, and public intellectual who has been spearheading the vanguard of cultivating mutual understanding and respect amongst Han and Uyghur Chinese. He has been steadfast on working within the system to finding a solution that will be mutually beneficial for the Communist Party and the Uyghur ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, home to many of China s ethnic Turkic Muslims. Even in the face of adversity, he has been outspoken and quick to criticize the missteps of the Communist Party s governance and policies towards Xinjiang province and its Muslim minorities. • 47. George Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion Critique Values And... Pygmalion Essay Essay question: Plays make powerful comments about societal structures. How does Shaw s Pygmalion critique values and attitudes prevalent in the early 1900 s? George Bernard Shaw was an Irish immigrant in England, ostracised from society because of his appearance and heritage rather than from judgement of his person, this kept him apart from most social classes of the time. This feeling of not fitting in may have inspired Shaw to write the play Pygmalion which premiered in 1914 to comment on the shallow nature of the people of this era and satirise the class system. To do this Shaw introduced Eliza Doolittle, a class chameleon, to guide the audience through the corrupt social hierarchy and give light to those who don t have a real place in the structure, like himself and Eliza who are judged based on appearance and speech. Shaw confronted his audience with his satirical reflection of reality; speech defines a persons class instead of what they have to say and to appear beautiful is more important than to be kind. Emphasising these important aspects in different ways in various characters gives an interesting view on how this class system influenced the people in their context. Pygmalion is a both reflection of influence of class and the values it promotes which Shaw skilfully uses to criticise inequality of all those within it. • 49. Research Paper On Putin Political Profile: Russian President Vladimir Putin Placing Vladimir Putin accurately on the political spectrum presents several challenges. First, Russia s political system does not conform to western norms and therefore the standard definitions are not always appropriate. Putin, who spent a career in the KGB, is seen as highly secretive. He does not make frequent public speeches, and in general, Russian leaders do not typically feel the need to explain policy decisions or their rationale to the general populace. This makes it difficult to determine to what degree necessity and practicality motivates Putin s decisions versus his own political philosophy. The lack of transparency in the Russian system further precludes detailed assessment or evaluation of leaders and their decisions such as would be demanded in western democracies. The Russian state owns 85% of the national media, rendering independent and unbiased scrutiny impossible. For all these reasons, Putin is enigmatic to most of the world outside his own country and therefore determining his personal political philosophy is not an easy task. Vladimir Putin was ... A statement she makes evident when she tells about the time his step father was buried next to her mother and her uncertainty of whether he would have liked that based on her and her siblings preferences. She claims, we would rather be dead than spend eternity lying next to her (Kincaid 170). In other terms, they despised her mother for the treatment she gave them. In fact, approximately 67 million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves and the cat descended from some larger wild cat but it is a little more complicated than that. So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than 34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the 1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as companions (Pushy Plants). Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw that they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store crops, such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and the people appreciated cats even more (Zax).
