Difference Between Misdemeanors And Felonies
People understand the difference between right and wrong and that there are going to be consequences
for their actions. People also understand that a crime is doing something that is wrong or illegal that
there are punishments that fit the crime. However, there are also times when the punishment does not
fit the crime or is excessive. People that commit these crimes do so in hoping that they won t get
caught but when they do they know that they are going to have a punishment that fits the crime. This
paper is going to look at the difference between misdemeanors and felonies and the punishment that
go with the crimes, and the sentencing guidelines in which the courts are supposed to follow, and
process in which a criminal can request a sentence reduction, or appeal their current sentence.
People do things every day that they know are wrong, with little or no thought to the consequences.
There are consequences for things that we do wrong, whether it s a crime or not. Whether or not
people want to admit, they want to feel as if justice has been served, and often times in order for them
to feel this way they want the person to serve a lot of time in prison. We understand that justice needs
to be served, and that the person who committed the crime needs to face the consequences associated
with the crime, but what happens when their punishment is too excessive, or does not fit the crime in
which they committed. People go to jail and prisons every day, and some judges

Sex And The City Of Rome Essay
Sex. It s the taboo. We don t like to talk about it because it makes us uncomfortable, but when
analyzed, it can tell us so much about a society, their core values, and the ideals that controlled their
society. Though the saying is doing it like the Greeks when talking about something perceived explicit
and raunchy, Rome had quiet the culture of sexual back and forth as the Greeks once had, and that
Western culture experiences today. Sex and the city of Rome had complicated lines of what was
acceptable and what was not. Through research, the concept of purity, of both the free roman
bloodline, and the purity of the roles of males and females, serves as a guiding concept when
analyzing what is acceptable and not in ancient Rome. Pudicitia is the core value in Roman sex
culture, and in all cases it is clear that the purity of Roman women, men, and free born bloodline is the
utmost concern.
Both girls and men, however particularly girls, were imagined to uphold pudicitia, a fancy virtue that
will be translated as restraint or chastity. A girl with a high degree of pudicitia, that is, a univira or one
man lady, would ask for above all to seem modest and to limit her social interaction with men apart
from her husband and male relatives. At a similar time, a single lady didn t suffer stigma; within the
higher categories, it had been common and even expected for a single or unmarried lady to espouse.
Pudicitia symbolized reason and goodness, whereas impudicitia that is,

Persuasive Essay On Young People Go Camping
My best friend and I decide to go camping, it was supposed to be a regular long weekend with her at
Gennie Springs. The only thing was that we did not count on the issues that it could bring to us. It was
a Memorial weekend and two days before the weekend we planned everything to travel 5 hours away
from home. The plan was just go camping, spend time with nature, and disconnect from the world. We
did not plan that the park was for crazy parties, we also did not plan that the police will stop us, and of
course, we did not plan that my car broke down on our way back. During our way to Gennie Springs,
everything was fine. We traveled for 5 hours without any inconvenience. When we arrived at the park,
we start noticing that a lot of young people from colleges and universities. As we register and confirm
our reservation, the guy from the park advises us that they do crazy parties over there and they are not
responsible for any damage. We agreed and we signed. My friend and I started looking for our spot
but everything was full and there was not any space available. We start asking people if they know
where was number 87, that was our camping number, but they were all hangover and do not even
know that the camping has numbers. After an hour going around the park and passing for the same
places over and over, we asked an old couple and they tried to guide us through the park. We continue
driving and find out that our spot was on the other side of the park, so we go there and found

Cultural Influences Of The Filipino Culture
Culture The Filipino culture has a variety of cultural influences. Most of their cultural influneces come
from past colonizations of Ameirca and Spain. In spite of all the influences, the older Asian culture of
the Filipinos has been kept and is clearly seen in their way of life. The Filipino culture has become
very evident and has largely been appreciated in many parts of the world. Filipinos are very passionate
of their music. They use a variety of materials to create sound. They also enjoy performing dances and
singing in groups during celebrations. The settlers from Spain introduced the Filipinos to a variety of
musical instruments such as: trumpets, drums and violins. Most of their music is modern and written
based on real life events. Religion About 83% of the population is Catholic (Spector, 2013). Most
Filipinos are deeply religious and God fearing people, they often associate their health with God. They
belive that diseases and illnesses are the will of God. When Filipino patients are give a poor prognosis,
they will continue to hope for a cure, regardless of the problem. This type of reaction is why some of
Filipino patients are tolerant and often suffer in silence. Ethnicity Some of the main ethnic groups of
the Philippines are the Tagalog s, Cebuano, Ilocano, Bisaya, Hiligaynon Ilonggo, Bicol, and Warays.
The Tagalog s are one of the main ethnic groups, they consist of 28.1% of the population (2000,

Dwarfism
Dwarfism
Dwarfism is short stature that results from a genetic or medical condition. Dwarfism is generally
defined as an adult height of four feet ten inches or less. The average adult height among people with
dwarfism is four feet.
Dwarfism is generally divided into two broad categories: Disproportionate Dwarfism (DD), some
body parts are small and other larger, and Proportionate Dwarfism (PD), all parts of the body are
smaller than an average person s but are proportionate. Most people with dwarfism have DD which
means they have an average sized trunk and very short limbs, but some people have a very short trunk
and shortened but larger limbs. The head may also be overly large compared to the body.
A person born with PD may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These little people have delayed or no sexual development during adolescence and a slower growth
rate than expected for age.
Diagnosing a child with dwarfism is based off of height measurements, usually performed at annual
well child exams, but if dwarfism is suspected the doctor may want to measure more often than yearly.
The doctor will watch the physical appearance of a person for skeletal and facial signs, and most
likely take x rays to check skeletal abnormalities. Other diagnostic tests include genetic testing, but
this may not be necessary, and hormone tests to assess the levels of growth hormones and of course
and extensive family history to see if the average height in a person s family is of short stature.
Treatment options include surgical procedures that may correct the bones in little people like, dividing
a limb bone, straightening it and inserting metal plates to hold it in place. Another procedure is
inserting rods or staples to help correct the shape of the spine.
Some people decide to undergo limb lengthening surgery. With this procedure, the surgeon divides a
long bone into two or more sections, separates the sections slightly and braces the bone and limb with
external metal scaffolding. Pins and screws on this frame are periodically adjusted to keep tension
between the sections, enabling the bone

Elementary Dual Language Program At Lincoln Elementary School
I observed a 3rd grade dual language program at Lincoln Elementary School in Blue Island, Illinois.
The philosophy of the program is to provide a well rounded educational foundation that supports
children s academic, physical, and emotional growth, success, and commitment to others. They
believe that if they can create a community in the classrooms, have high expectations for all students,
and nurture their native language as well as their second language, the students will be successful.
The program consisted of 2 classrooms. During the school day, 50% of the time the students are
learning in Spanish listening, speaking, reading, and writing. And the other 50% is spent learning in
English. The English class teaches English/Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. The Spanish
class teaches English/language Arts, Science. The English teacher is not allowed to speak Spanish, not
even to help out students. The Spanish teacher is not allowed to speak English, not even to help out
students. However both teachers used the language they were not allowed to speak to teach cognates.
The third graders were able to understand Spanish and English, respond in Spanish and English, and
write in Spanish and English. This is not like a bilingual classroom where students are transitioning
from Spanish to being proficient in English. They are all on different levels of proficiency, but all
students read, write, listen, and speak in both languages.

The Sound Devices Used Within the Tyger by William Blake
Where the Sleeping Tyger Lies: An Analysis of the Sound Devices Used in The Tyger by William
Blake
The Tyger, written in 1974, is one of both simplicity and mystery. Within this poem written by old
English William Blake, there are 13 full questions within this short 24 line work. Though many
literary analysts have attempted to forge a meaning from this work, not one theme has a more correct
stance than any of the others. One clear symbol within the piece is the Tyger, who represents some
form of evil entity, quite possibly Satan himself. One possibility for the theme is that the poet is
questioning why God would create such an evil being. This can be exemplified in the first stanza and
last stanzas, where the word could is changed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alliteration is used quite frequently in Blake s work, and is apparent in nearly all of the stanzas. Some
clear examples of this sound device are burning bright (1) or distant deeps (5). These alliterations only
further add to the hint at a prayer like state of the poem, but also go on to help the poem have a
smoother rhythm and flow. They are evident throughout the entire piece, and do tend to get quite a bit
repetitive at times, but are always used effectively and to put strong emphasis on whatever is being
alliterated. These alliterations point more directly towards the specific ideas mentioned earlier, and are
Blake s stabs at again creating a larger focus on the words selected. This is can be easily compared to
highlighting words read aloud, as the audience and reader will take mental notes of them as they are
spoken, and refer back to them when questioning the idea and theme of the poem. Though both
assonance and consonance are not completely un evident in the piece, they are never used to convey
any form of meaning or to add any depth to the piece, but rather they both blend to help the writing
have smoother flow and not seem as choppy as it would without these sound devices. Because of this,
these don t particularly focus on anything to help convey any specific

For anybody living in Kathmandu in the 50s, Krishna Pauroti was synonymous with pauroti (bread).
Set up in 1949, when the now pervasive white bread was an oddity, the pastry kitchen is an

Established by Krishna Bahadur Rajkarnikar, the pastry kitchen acquainted Nepalis with bread when
there was none, and its story runs parallely with the historical backdrop of majority rules system in the

How Leadership Styles Affect Productivity By E. Brown There are 4 primary leadership styles, many
of which you can find within most businesses or organizations around the world. These styles are:
Dictatorial, Authoritative, Consultative, and Participative. Each of the leadership styles have impact
on reforming and/or creating company culture. There are short and long term affects of each style. For
instance, the authoritative style may produce great results in a short amount of time. However,
excessive use of authority will decrease productivity in the long term. People either get fed up and
leave or fall into a malaise of hum drum repetitive tasks without creativity and innovation. All the
while, a participative style will be unproductive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You dont have any control over outside influences. You are going to face the implementation of an
unpopular change in the norm. Somebody is going to dictate a new policy or procedure. While you
cant control the outside influence you can control your units interpretation of it. Minor changes are
fairly simply. Introduce the new policy or procedure, provide your employees with as much
background on why the change is necessary, train them and then follow up with praise or sanction.
Larger or dramatic changes are more difficult. As with smaller changes to the norm, you must first
seek clarity. Find out as much as you can why the change is necessary. Make sure you know as much
as possible. I am always honest with my people. When I dont like something or think a change is
going to be difficult I admit it. As a follower, I have sat through too many gratuitous roll calls where
the sergeant or lieutenant is giving us happy talk. I recommend you say something like, I dont like this
anymore than you do. But, this is how we are going to do it. This admission is actually an emphasis of
the norm of obedience to orders and the value of you place on it. After you have made this admission,
adopt the new norm and place the appropriate value on it. Dont undermine yourself or your
organization by rolling your eyes or somehow expressing that you dont believe the new change should
be implemented. As with the minor change,

Flexible Bronchoscopy Study
Abstract: (143 words) Flexible bronchoscopy allows a full inspection of the central airways and has
become the most commonly performed diagnostic procedure by the pulmonologists. The knowledge
of airway anatomy is the most fundamental requirement of every bronchoscopist. Interestingly, normal
endobronchial anatomy is an exception. There are numerous and frequent anatomical variations of the
central airways making the examitaion unique for every individual. It is imparative for every
bronchoscoipist to be fully cognizant of the common congenital anomalies involving the central
airways. Proper idetification and reporting of these findings are matter of the utmost importance,
especially when surgical option in lung cancer patient or the lung transplantation is under

The incidence of this anomaly is unknown. In a bronchoscopy series by Beder et ai, 475 of 1,114
patients were found to have at least one tracheo bronchial variation; trifurcation of the left main
bronchus was accounted in 0.1 % of tracheo bronchial variations [6]. This anomaly has been regarded
as a displaced pre hyparterial type of tracheal bronchus [66]. Theoretically, it is possible that
trifurcation of the left main bronchus could be a spectrum of left tracheal bronchus. It should be
differentiated from the double right Iung type of bronchial isomerism syndrome. Right sided bronchial
isomerism is a rare anatomical variation (situs solitus) consisting of a left lung that is identical to the
right lung at the bronchial and lobar level [67]. This type of anatomical variation is usually associated
with congenital asplenia and therefore impairs immunity. In all reports of the trifurcation of the left
main bronchus produced no symptom and was an incidental finding during a bronchoscopic
examination performed for an unrelated indication. [Figure 13]

Compared to my other texts, which seem a lot more aggressive and controversial than this poem,
Naheed s poem is quite tame for feminist poetry. However, at the time, after the partition of Pakistan
and India, in an extremely militaristic male orientated society, Naheet was well known for her feminist
critiques, and they were considered to be very contemporary and contentious. Even now, her
discussion of breaking away from the male model of what a woman should be is extremely relevant;
For the wall which has been razed / don t now insist on raising it again. Naheed s argument for a
woman s right to agency and equal opportunities throughout all of her writing has classed her as a
feminist poet, though at the time she did not call herself a feminist in 1990 s Pakistan. Her use of

Relation Between Architecture And The Environment.this...
An architect cannot build a consistent and stable structure without knowing the relationship between
architecture and the environment. This topic should be discussed on various angles. One of them is the
aesthetical point of view, and the other is the human intervention in nature. The former is essentially
an artistic debate and a generic timeless topic since the beginning of architectural practices. The other
one is a more contemporary issue. In a broader aspect, this topic isn t only the architect s interest, but
also is an issue of engineers, scientists and even social scientist s; and yet it can even extend to global
warming concerns. For this reason, let us firstly start and find out the most current dispute entitled as
human intervention in nature.
Humans since their very first existence have been in a big struggle against the nature. However, they
shape the nature to suffice their needs and in essence adapt themselves accordingly into the conditions
given by the Mother Nature. Over time nature has resisted to this human endeavor in every possible
way it can and tried not to surrender humans. No matter how strong this resistance is; humans
somehow found a way to break it down with their inborn skills that they managed to develop in time.
This can be regarded as a seamless dance between these two enormous forces.
As the nature manifested itself as an obstacle where humans accomplished to push it away, this
struggle shaped the way in which humans developed a way of

Reflection Paper On I Am Invincible
I like to assume I am invincible, that nothing terrible will ever happen to me. It wasn t until my life
started to fall to pieces that I realized I had to try just as hard as everyone else in this world. Having
too much pride, or what some refer to as tragic flaw, will almost definitely lead to one s downfall.
Personally, my problem was that my understanding of the law was simplistic. All the rules that
responsible citizens follow day in and day out somehow didn t apply to me. I could pick fights, I could
stay out past curfew, I could vandalize others property, and it would never come back to hurt me. In
fact, I was not only hurting myself but all those around me. My father, my girlfriend, and everyone
who was only trying to help me had suffered through me being the manipulative addict I was.
A sincere saying is that, People who use others as stepping stones , eventually lose their balance . I
have not only stepped, however stomped on a multitude of people in my life. For instance, I have
stolen from my own family s wallets in order to get my fix. In this past year I have had to reteach
myself how to live. I needed consequences to change. It wasn t until I started to realize I wasn t
invincible that I started to realize the way I was approaching every situation in my life was no longer
going to work. After I spent time in jail, and having time to ponder the decisions I had made to put me
there; I realized my life, as I was living it, was not doing anything for me. It was getting me nowhere
in life, costing absurd amounts of money, destroying relationships, and making me unhappy. The only
thing I have been looking for my whole life is happiness, chasing it with substances for a temporary
fix. In reality, I was making myself more miserable. Beverly Daniel Tatum states in her article, The
Complexity of Identity: Who Am I, :
Triggered by the biological changes associated with puberty, the maturation of cognitive abilities, and
changing societal expectations, this process of simultaneous reflection and observation, the self
creation of one s identity, is commonly experienced in the United States and other Western societies
during the period of adolescence. (par. 6)

Discrimination And Harassment Against Women
Throughout the 20th century, women were often seen as eye candies and mannequins at work, and in
many cases, they even encounter sexual molestation. Discrimination and harassment against women is
still prevalent in the workplace. During the 2013 fiscal year, Courts enforced 7,256 charges of sexual
harassment, out of which, women comprised 82.6 % of victims, while there were 27,687 cases of
gender discrimination. Our era has seen new conventions and legal philosophies, which are steering
towards female emancipation. Courts have passed laws such as Title VII, of the Civil Rights Act of
1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religious belief, gender, or
national origin of the person. These laws empower women and aim to forestall them from facing any
discrimination or hostility at work. Civil rights provide protection to women, but it fails to provide the
sense of equality that women deserve. During the 20th century, our society has envisioned a vast
movement for Equal Right Amendment (ERA). The ERA was a proposed amendment to the United
States Constitution, which guaranteed equality between human races and women, under law. The bill
failed in 1982, when it did not receive enough state votes for the confirmation. To a historian, North
Country can present insight about gender inequality in the late 20th century. It also sheds light on the
historical issues which stand to influence our times, by leading to the conception of new laws and

Opening Scene Of Bassanio
The audience is first acquainted with Bassanio in the opening scene of the play, where he seeks to lend
money from his disconsolate friend, Antonio.
In Act 1 Scene 1, Gratiano and Lorenzo leave Antonio and Bassanio alone. At this moment, Bassanio
reveals his financial crisis. Bassanio tells Antonio Tis unknown to you, Antonio/How much I have
disabled mine estate and also states To unburden all my plots and purposes/How to get clear of all the
debts I owe. Bassanio is admitting to Antonio that he has squandered his wealth. Here we perceive
him to be a young man who has a habit of spending money frivolously, which builds on the idea that
he is irresponsible. The audience is also displeased with Bassanio because he isn t as solicitous as ...

Bassanio makes Lancelot feel welcome as his new servant by demanding a follower of his to Give him

Shortly before Bassanio and Gratiano take a trip to Belmont, Bassanio points out to Gratiano Thou art
too wild, too rude, too bold of voice. He isn t unfairly criticising him, Bassanio wants to make a good
impression on Portia. Bassanio needs to be entitled to a high class status when he reaches Belmont, so
that he can woo Portia. This suggests that he wants to make an effort to please her, and he is possibly
worthy of her love after all.
While he is in Belmont, Portia makes an absolute declaration of love by stating One half of me is
yours, the other half yours. At this point, Bassanio is aware of the fact that Portia is definitely in love
with him. However, he feels guilty when he says Let me choose/For as I am, I live upon the rack. In
this extended metaphor of torture, Portia replies Then confess/What treason there is mingled with your
love. This metaphor speaks about trust and suggests that Bassanio wants to tell Portia the truth about
his financial status, but he s unwilling to because he is afraid of disappointing her. This language of
intimacy proves that he cares about Portia and does not want her to lose interest in him. Yet again, this
implies that he is worthy of Portia s

Economies Of Scale And Scope
Economies of Scope:
Economies of scale and scope help producers lower their cost by producing the next unit of output at
lower costs this trend continues until production reaches a level of diseconomies of scale where
production is no longer running as efficient as it should. This tends to increase the barriers to entry for
new competitors as when they enter the market they will experience a higher cost of production. Why?
Solely because they have smaller economies of scale and cannot afford to sell the product at the same
price as other much larger firms. Generally, economies of scale and scope positively affect General
Electric. Since General Electric is one of the biggest conglomerates in the world it has the opportunity
to offer products and services through the same organization. These products might be highly unalike
but due to the wide range of businesses covered by GE the prospect is there. For example, GE, in
order to continue a healthy relationship with valued customers, has allowed the multimillion dollar
purchase of its jet engines to be financed over long periods of time. The catch is that these finance
opportunities are usually done via a leasing arrangement from GE Finance. In recent year GE has
pursued a service strategy when it comes to selling aircraft engines. They sell what they call power by
the hour this enables the private firm to indirectly rent the engine turbines, in return the firm would
award GE with maintenance contracts on the engines. This

Elmer Keith Argumentative Essay
The gun world is full of personalities, both the genuine and the two bit knockoff. Elmer Keith most
certainly fell into the former and probably made the latter as jittery as lambs during docking season.
Typically pictured with six shooters in his hands, a large Stetson on his head and a well chewed cigar
between his teeth, he seemed like the American Spirit come to life. But under his homespun exterior
ticked a thinking man, particularly on the subject of guns. A fella doesn t produce more than a half

Mesopotamia, located between Tigris and Euphrates (both rivers), became the cradle of civilization in

William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying Essays
William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
In his book, As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner pioneers new and interesting literary forms. His most
obvious deviation from traditional novel writing was the new style of narration in which he used all
the main characters as the narrator at one point or another. This allowed the reader to gain insight into
the character s thoughts, and also to prove very interesting and entertaining. Faulkner also ignores all
boundaries that sane people have placed upon the English language to keep it readable. Faulkner
forges his own set of rules for syntax that allow for a very choppy yet elegant stream of consciousness
in the character s narration. Lastly, Faulkner makes incredible leaps away from established ... Show

Faulkner does a great job of varying the attitudes and styles of the characters as they narrate in turn,
but this creates a confusing atmosphere, especially in the first few chapters. For instance, the first
section is narrated by Darl who talks about Jewel, Tull, and Cash like we are supposed to know who
they are. The next section is by Cora who mentions Addie, Kate, and Mrs. Lawington, and talking
about issues with each one of them, and we still don t know who Darl is. As you could imagine, this
creates quite a bit of confusion in the first part of the book, until the reader can sort through the
characters, but by that time, a quarter of the book is gone and needs to be reread. An upside of this
method, however, is that it allows the author the full use of the minds of his characters, and he can
create a more clear picture of their thoughts.
Another peculiarity of the narration of this book was the idea of stream of consciousness. Faulkner
uses his words to try to express what the characters are thinking at that moment. The thoughts tend to
ramble a little, with one idea leading onto another, and many of them not making sense unless some
assumptions are made of past events. This form of narration is made possibly by the use of fragment
sentences, run ons, and many other strange

Historical Analysis Of Virginia

Historical Analysis Four
Virginia, the first of the thirteen English Colonies in the New World, was one of the Southern
Colonies. During the early national periods in Virginia, the colonists experienced extreme summers
that were very hot and humid and had mild winters. With the hot summers, it gave rise to the spread of
disease. Fertile soul and plentiful rain made Virginia a great place for farming. As well as fertile soils,
there were a lot of bays where ports could be made for trade. In the Western part of the Virginia, the
mountains and heavy woods made it hard to have big farms. Since they weren t able to have big farms,
they were often small, self sufficient farms (Colony).

Since they could not afford more slaves, this meant that the slaves that they did have, had to work
twice as hard in the time that they were given to get the job done (Boston).
Tobacco was the first plantation crop raised by the Southern colonies. The labor requirements for
tobacco were often not too hard, but they were often labor intensive. Which means that they crop took
a lot of work, but the work that it did take, was not too difficult. Unlike glassblowing or flax and silk
cultivation, the tasks associated with tobacco were simple and could be quickly mastered by children
or adults. (Cotton) Tobacco plants were mature and ready to harvest by August to September.
It was often difficult for slave men and women on these farms to find significant others, therefor,
marriage was uncommon. Some had family on nearby farms, and their masters allowed them to visit
each other, whereas other masters split up families and sent parents, and even children, to live and
work in different places. Where the slaves slept, often depended on how big or small the cabin was.
Many of the slaves on the small farms slept on the floor in various rooms of the house. Since the
plantations were normally small, it made it to where the cabins were next to the overseer s home.
During the summer time, it was extremely hot and humid, so in a way,

Goodfellas Analysis Essay
GoodFellas
Intro
At the beginning of the 1970s, two men, by the names of Martin Scorcese and Robert De Niro, met
and started an extremely successful and world renowned string of movie director/actor collaborations.
Over the course of 22 years, spawning from 1973, with their first film Mean Streets, to 1995, with their
most recent work Casino, the duo paired up for 8 movies, most of which are considered some of the
greatest films of all time. The most notable, however, would have to be their 1990 movie Goodfellas, a
classic film which was nominated for 6 oscars, winning one, and named the greatest film of all time
by British film magazine Total Film, an organized crime movie which is one of my favorite movies.

The character becomes in conflict with himself when he meets and marries a girl by the name of
Karen Friedman, which makes him reconsider his life as a gangster. However, he realizes that he is too
deep into it and can not walk away. Despite this, for most of the film, he remains his calm, composed
and likeable self, as he is shown as the only sane person of the crew. The catalyst to his character
change is drugs. Once he starts dealing and using heroine and cocaine, he immediately becomes a
jumpy and paranoid man, who is unable to keep his cool. His drug activities and incarceration lose
him the respect of Jimmy Conway and made man Paul Cicero, who he becomes in conflict with,
which makes him a marked man.
Setting
The film starts out in a predominantly Italian American neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York in the
mid 1950s. The values that were held the highest at that time in place were family and money. The
film s other major setting is John F Kennedy Airport, which is the scene of many of the hijackings and
robberies that occur in the movie.
Themes
The two major themes in this movie is friendship and greed, and the two themes often come in conflict
with each other. The mafia is made up of a very select few individuals, who are together all the time
and don t affiliate with outsiders. This makes them grow strong bonds and develop friendships with
each other. According to Jimmy Conway, the two most important things to remember is to never rat on

Facilitating Change in Health and Social Care Essay
Introduction
This essay seeks to discuss the factors that facilitate change in health and social care. This can be
achieved by assessing the challenges that the major factors of change bring using the Care Quality
Commission of the Quality Care Commission for the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust (RUHB).
The second task aims to evaluate contemporary changes being inaugurated in the provision of health
and social care services. In addition to this, a strategy and criteria will be devised in order to measure
these recent changes including how the impact of these changes can be measured and evaluated.

The NHS Operating Framework introduced by the coalition government sets out the planning and
financial requirements for RUHB in 2012/13 and the basis of their accountability (DH, 2012). As a
result, the 2013 certified that funding for health in England be frozen for up 2015/16 thereby requiring
RUBH to underspend allocated funding from the government such as putting a 1% cap on pay award.
Socially, this will include factors such as behavior of staff and service users, partnership working,
quality of care, etc. These factors can drive change in diverse ways in the RUHB. For example, the
NICE Guidelines on Behavior Change make recommendations on individual level behavior
interventions that is aimed at changing the behavior that can be dangerous to the health of staff and
service users such as smoking, alcohol abuse, lack of physical activity, safe sex, etc. (NICE, 2014).
Technologically, the introduction of information communication technology has resulted in faster
communication, appropriate storing and sharing of information and records of service users between
health and social care professionals. As a result of the CQC inspection, the RUHB revises their health
records management policy to more accurately reflect where information about service user such as
fluid intake and output in each ward should be recorded (CQC Report, 2013)

Why Did Reagan Demand Gorbachev To Tear Down The Berlin Wall
In 1987, Reagan delivered a passionate speech in which he challenged Mikhail Gorbachev, leader of
the USSR, to tear down the Berlin Wall.
Why did Reagan demand Gorbachev to tear down the Wall? Reagan wanted to end the soviets versus
the west. He wanted to end the cold war. Reagan saw that the west has prospered and flourished after
the war while the east was struggling to feed its own people. Tearing down the Berlin wall would be
the symbol of the end of the cold war. It would finally reunite Berlin.

the capitalist and on the east you had the communist. The Berlin wall separated the soviets and the

Pressure/Volume of Air Full Lab Write Up
Introduction:
According to Boyle s Law, the volume of any given amount of gas held at a constant temperature
varies inversely with the applied pressure. In other words, when the pressure increases the volume
decreases. When pressure decreases, volume increases. This can be derived from the following
equation:
P1 V1=P2 V2
The common use of this equation is to predict how a change in pressure or volume will alter the
volume/pressure of the gas. Thus, the product of the initial volume and pressure is equal to the product
of pressure and volume after a change in either pressure or volume under constant temperature.

The Intelligence Of The Cia Triad Network Security
Introduction
Over the last few years the amount of security breaches that have been reported have had one factor
that has been prevalent in majority of the attacks. That factor is the employee s and how they are
manipulated into giving the intruder/hacker exactly what they needed without realizing it. The use of
social engineering in data breaches and fraud has been steadily increasing over the years.
Confidentiality, integrity, and availability the three components of the CIA triad in network security
can all be compromised by the risk of social engineering.
Definition of Social Engineering
Social engineering also known as people hacking is the art of utilizing human behavior to breach
security without the victim even realizing that they have been manipulated. Social engineering can be
further broken down to three methodologies.
1. Phishing The sending of emails appearing to be from a reputable source with the goal of gaining
personal information from the victim(s)
2. Vishing This is the practice of getting information from the victim or attempting to Influence
actions by the use of a telephone.

Reflection Paper On Cultural Experience
For my cultural experience, I decided to connect with my roots. Even though I am Hispanic American,
my parents never truly exposed me to my Mexican culture. This assignment seemed like the perfect
opportunity to connect with elements of my heritage.
My parents were born and raised in downtown Joliet, so I went to them to ask them where the best
place would be to go find those types of experiences. They told me that the East side of Joliet would
be my best chance of experiencing a new cultural experience.
The following day, I decided to take a trip to this region. As I came closer to approaching the East
side, I noticed that the surroundings around me started changing quite drastically. A great percentage
of signs posted on billboards and businesses were written in Spanish. No English on the signs was
visible anywhere either. I also noticed that great amount of businesses that were being run by Hispanic
men. Considerably much greater than any businesses located in my neighborhood. I decided to stop at
a small corner store located right next to Joliet Central high school. The store was called
Supermercado Joliet . When I walked inside, I noticed that many of the products being sold weren t
the everyday product that I was used to seeing being sold in a Walmart or Jewel Osco in my

Smallwood s Middle Passage
Smallwood s, like Taylor s, qualitative analysis is based on white sources as none where written by the
slaves themselves. However, Smallwood is able to get over this hurdle by comparing her archival
findings with the cultural, social, and political features of the societies of the Gold Coast. Interestingly,
Smallwood relates the experience of the Middle Passage with African cultural notions of cosmology
and funeral rights and rituals. Her approach is refreshing as she is not simply interested in the quantity
of slaves brought to market through the middle passage, but rather, she is interested in the experience
of the middle passage and how that experience turned Africans into slaves. Smallwood s goal is to
bring the people aboard slave ships to life as subjects in American social history. Her goal is one of
agency, and is an important and critical goal of any social history. Smallwood traces the
transformation, step by step, of Africans to slaves. The human being is central to this transformation.

The Significance of the Storm in A Tale of Two Cities by...
A Tale of Two Cities, a book written by Charles Dickens in 1859, describes the situation of France and
the French Revolution. At the end of Chapter Six, Dr. Manette, Lucie Manette, Charles Darnay,
Sydney Carton, and Miss Pross are at a Tea Party. A turbulent storm occurs and incites an eerie mood
within the characters. Charles Darnay starts telling a story about a paper he found. After telling the
story, Dr. Manette begins to feel ill. Following this is a section which contains multiple literary
elements. In Chapter Six, Dickens utilizes descriptive literary devices, such as imagery,
personification, and anaphora, to foretell the French Revolution and set the mood of the passage. The
use of suspenseful imagery allows for a descriptive foreshadow of the French Revolution. At the end
of the chapter, Dickens compares people to the storm by showing a crowd of people with its rush and
roar, bearing down upon them too (109). The Third Estate is depicted as rowdy and very thundering
by means of their rush and roar. If the people linger to this extent for a Revolution, this rowdiness can
cause a massive war. Soon enough there was a great hurry in the streets, people speeding away to get
shelter before the storm broke (107). The storm, being synonymous with the Revolution, will cause a
great hurry to the Third Estate due to their unpreparedness. Civilians, speeding away, try to get to
shelter before the revolution starts to become too brutal. In the night a storm of thunder

The World Is Too Much With Us Personification
Wordsworths The World is Too Much with us is a poem that describes how we, as a society, need to
appreciate the world we live in. Wordsworth feels that we are detached from the world and its beauty
because we have become so careless about how we view the world. For example, Wordsworth writes,
We lay waste our powers; / Little we see in Nature that is ours;/ We have given our hearts away, a
sordid boon! (2 4). In this passage, Wordsworth talks about how the world and its nature is significant
to mankind because we depend on it, but we choose to overlook it because we have lost our
meaningful connection. We waste our days being ungrateful to the world instead of appreciating the
life it holds. Our world does so much for us and yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He would like to see the world in a different view so that when he looks at the ocean or the moon, he
would feel less sad. He would see glimpses of things that make him content, things that he only sees
for a second, in the blink of an eye.
Wordsworth uses literary elements such as personification. For example, This Sea that bares her boson
to the moon (5), sleeping flowers , (7) and The winds that will be howling at all hours, these samples
show how Wordsworth gives nature human like qualities. He does this to create character in nature.
Another literary element Wordsworth uses is similes. For example, Wordsworth writes, The winds that
will be howling at all hours, / And are up gathered like
Carr 2 sleeping flowers (7). He uses a simile to compare how the flowers look like they are sleeping,
giving it a human quality.
Another one of Wordsworths poems, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, is about how he is feeling
compared to a cloud. He pretends that he is in his own small universe above the clouds. As he is
wondering above the clouds, he sees a crowd full of daffodils. Wordsworth

Pay As You Earn Policy Analysis
Pay as You Earn Policy Today s society is filled with more access to information through education

and further develop it into knowledge that feeds progress in all areas of life. As society has advanced
both technologically and culturally, the value and demand on education has been directly impacted. Its
impact on egalitarian civilization and contribution to individualism in the United States is critical
(Kraft Furlong, 2015, pp. 342). To achieve the most our culture has to offer, students must further their

tie the hands of many low income families in two ways: it leaves them with no option to attend higher
education at all or leaves them with debt upon graduation. As previously mentioned, once demand is
increased in an area, costs follow suit. With costs rising as family and student income stasy the same,
payments become overwhelming (Issues for Debates in American Public Policy: Selections from CQ

Chimpanzee s and Tool Use
Introduction:
Chimpanzees are part of the non human primate group. Though we share a common ancestor,
evolution has pushed us in different directions. However this common ancestor causes humans to be
curious about these creatures. As discussed in Jane Goodall s video Among the Wild Chimpanzees we
were once considered to be human because of our use of tools but once we observed these non human
primates using tools, this perception was changed forever. The question now at hand is if having the
chimpanzees that we study in captivity makes a difference between studying wild chimps. These
interesting creatures can be found naturally in the rainforests of Africa.

at one point a single chimp had to commit the act of tool manufacturing in the first place in both

that they are being raised in a predominantly right handed human world and that their tendency to

Schmitt (1999) developed five different types of experiences, or strategic experiential modules
(SEMs) to indicate customer s need from Sense, Feel, Think, Act and Relate to achieved marketing
objectives. It breaks traditional thinking of a rational customer, and bring new concept of experiential
marketing in live brand experiences. It helps to identified Sony s experiential marketing strategy,
which were applicable to this report context and analysed for study based on those.

Ckd Case Studies
Similarly, patients with long standing hypertension with hypertensive retinopathy and a family history
of hypertension and CKD are likely to have hypertensive nephrosclerosis, particularly if urinalysis
reveals minimal proteinuria and no hematuria22. It is worth noting that the presence of diabetes or
hypertension does not rule out another cause of CKD, particularly since hypertension is a consequence
of CKD. In addition, distinguishing between diabetic and hypertensive nephropathy is frequently
challenging. However, a biopsy is usually not recommended because distinguishing between
hypertension and diabetes as the underlying cause of CKD does not change management. If diabetes
and hypertension are not present, a careful history and physical examination may show other causes of
CKD; for instance, a history of heart failure or cirrhosis suggests reduced renal perfusion from
reduced effective intravascular volume as well as renal injury from inflammation and activation of the
sympathetic and renin angiotensin aldosterone systems23 24. ... Show more content on

Water Is An Important Factor That Affects Sorption
Water is an important factor that affects sorption because when there is excess water or when water
drains through soil from sources at the surface, adsorbed pesticide molecules can become unattached,
or desorbed, and wash away to a new location (Rao, 1999). Just as degradation has a measure in the
half life of a compound, sorption also has a measure in the partition coefficient (Koc), which is a ratio
of pesticide concentration in a soil bound state versus dissolved in soil water (Rao, 1999). In fact, the
solubility of a pesticide and its sorption on soil are inversely related; [in other words], increased
solubility results in less sorption (Rao, 1999). Both sorption and degradation are effected by soil type
and pH, both of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Volatilization is a means of major pesticide loss and its rate of loss can often exceeds that of
degradation, runoff, or leaching (van der Werf, 1996). For example, in an Oregon study, soil samples
64km from any agriculture were found to have DDT residues, and in Saskatchewan, Canada, 20% of
2, 4 D iso octyl ester volatilized in 24 hours (Pimentel, 1995). Once in the atmosphere, pesticide
residues can spread anywhere, even Antarctica (Pimentel, 1995). Large amounts of pesticides and
organic compounds can be transported around the globe in the atmosphere, for example, in the
atmosphere of the Netherlands, the amounts of
BHC, DDT, and heptachlor were reported to be 4600, 1064, and 190 pg/m 3, respectively (Pimentel,
1995).
Topography and Geology Topography and geology affect pesticide movement in as much as directing
or transporting pesticides. Topography is very obvious, for example, if a field is right next to a river, it
is much more likely for runoff to get into the river system, or if a field is in a low area not very far
above the water table, pesticides are very likely to leach into the groundwater. On the other hand, a
field could be high and dry and very far from any river or groundwater, but if it is hilly that can pose
its own problems. As T. Y. Tong and Chen point out, surface runoff is an important source of non point
pollution (Tong and Chen, 2002). Though it was pointed out by van der Werf that volatilization is the
biggest source of

Caenorhabditis Elegans Lab Report
Introduction: Caenorhabditis elegans, a type of free living nematode that is found in soil, is the subject
matter for this experiment (Marsh). C. elegans allow for an exceptional model organism because it is
easily raised in the laboratory setting, it reproduces rapidly, has a short life cycle of 3 days where it
develops from egg to adult worm, only 1.3mm in length, and although only having 959 somatic cells,
it shares many characteristics with other multicellular organisms like having organs and a nervous
system (Kaletta). These nematodes can either be a self fertilizing hermaphrodite where each animal
produces both sperm and egg, or they can be males that will mate with the hermaphrodites (Brenner).
When a hermaphrodite self fertilizes, the chance of having a male being produced is extremely low at
just 0.1%, however, when a hermaphrodite is fertilized by a male, the ratio of males to hermaphrodites
is generally equal making it 1:1 (Altun). This experiment was devised to help ... Show more content

fertilization. This cross was made because would show which is the dominant trait based. On plate 2,

Compages And Disadvantages Of Internet Protocol Version 4...
Nowadays Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) over Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPV4) tunnels are
widely used to form the global Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) Internet. Internet Protocol (IP) is the
common language of the Internet. Every device connected to the Internet must support the IP. The
current version of Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) has several limitations that present a barrier to the
further development of the Internet. Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) is the new generation IP of the
Internet. It is now gaining momentum as an improved network layer protocol. Internet Protocol
Version 6 (IPV6) revolution should remove the barriers and provide a better feature for the future of
global networking. This study conducts a study on Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPV4) and Internet
Protocol Version 6 (IPV6) . This paper demonstrates the two tunnels and show when to immigrate
from Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPV4) to Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPV6). Then the risks of
immigration are discussed. Internet Protocol (IP) is the common language of the Internet.

The most problem is limited of address space because of IPv4 based on a 32 bit Internet address (J.
Govil, 2007). The solution is for IPv6 to accommodate this increased demand by providing a much
larger address space, along with better traffic routing and improved security. IPv6 is advancement
from IPv4. It was designed to build on the current features of IPv4 with an addition of enhanced
capabilities. IPv6 takes the best of what made IPv4 successful and gets rid of minor imperfections and
unused features. IPv6 has 128 bit address space or 4 times more address bits compared to IPv4. So,
there are more than enough IPv6 addresses to keep the Internet operational for a

The Relationship Between Transitive Inference And Social...
INTRODUCTION As claims the premise below, the ecological (e.g., temperature, humidity, altitude,
and alimentation) and social (relationships with the environment and other organisms) factors could
mould the perceptual and cognitive characteristic of a given species. It means that among nonhumans
vertebrates they learn differently and have difference intelligence. Some authors, such as Clayton et al.
(1998), supports this point of view. But this is not a universal thought within the scientific world.
Mcphail and Bolhuis (2001), for example, do not see a relation between cognitive abilities and
ecological factors. Moreover, Mcphail (1982, 1885), with his null hypothesis, claims that all
vertebrates non humans are of equal intelligence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be pointed out as a social factor the complexity of the social group where a given species lives.
Recently, it has been found evidence that supports the link between social complexity and transitive
inference, which indicates that animals that show superior transitive reasoning are those who are
highly social (Brannon et al., 2008). Transitive inference could be defined as a form of deductive
reasoning that allows one to derive a relation between items that have not been explicitly compared
before (Lazareva, 2012). To analyse the relation between transitive inference and social complexity,
Brannon et al. (2008) use two laboratory experiments, which include two species of lemurs: ringtailed
and mongoose lemurs. Ringtailed lemurs are highly social while mongoose lemurs are less social.
Within the two experiments, Brannon et al. (2008) found that both species were capable of transitive
inference, but ringtailed lemurs were more capable to detect the underlying linear order of an ordinal
series. It means that the both species do not differ directly in their ability to make transitive inferences,
but in their ability to detect the underlying linear order. So, according to Brannon et al. (2008), it
suggests that the social complexity is important in order to detect and reason about the rank order of
conspecifics, which are important to survive when animal lives in a complex social group with linear
dominance

Impact Of Television On The Western Europe
The Impact of Television on Democracy in Eastern Europe
After the second World War , a large part of central Europe was controlled by the Soviet Union and
was forced to adapt to the Communism ideology. While the year 1989 was a turning point that some
effective revolution interrupted and the Soviet hegemony was destroyed, the demand for democracy
and freedom was increased and people tried to find their ways to speak out. With the development of
technology, mass media emerged to help address the problem. Among the mass media, radios,
newspapers, and televisions were extremely prominent because of their high speed way of spreading
information and direct expressions of images and sounds. During this period, people tended to believe
the news, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Romania, many independent television stations appeared during the collapse of Ceausescu s power.
Under the control of the Communist Party, any information that was adverse to their regime was
forbidden. However, this was soon followed by the second stage of growing disillusionment as
political divisions made themselves manifest and the new system developed its own ways of imposing
its control on the media , often simply by reintroducing some of the old methods (Jakubowicz 293).
The television was used as a transmission platform for people who gained the freedom of words to
express their thoughts. Televisions were involved in politics in the Post Communist Czech Republic.
Before, and during the Communism era, television stations were strictly controlled by the government.
It was impossible for those people who were considered to dissent and fight against the Communism
ideology to show up in the public media. However, in November of 1989, Czechoslovakia s
Communist regime had come to its end; the staffs working for televisions were changed, which led to
the conversion of the content in the TV programs. For example, anti government representatives like
Havel and Dubcek appeared on the screens. Thousands of people could now hear their voices and
messages at the same time (Hester Reybold 46). In accordance with the institutionally guaranteed
freedom of expression, word and press,

What Are The Disadvantages Of A Subscription Market
Strategic Issue Article Subscription boxes are one of the fastest growing trends in the business and
startup world. The concept is that a customer signs up for monthly home deliveries of items that they
desire. Companies finding success with this strategy include Fabletics and Gentleman s Box. With the
growing interest consumers have for convenience, it makes sense that home delivered goods would be
so popular among consumers. The growth of this industry can be expected to continue to grow for
many reasons, but most likely because of the low barriers to entry. However, the issue is how is this
growing trend impacting retail stores like Banana Republic and Macey s. Pros: These subscription
based companies are quickly taking over the retail market. The biggest pro for the consumer to a
subscription based clothing service is convenience. These clothing subscription services generally
entail clothes picked for you by a stylist in your selected size, which are sent directly to your door
every month. The consumer is able to try on the items in the comfort of their own home. If they don t
like it, they have the option to send it back. However, if they do like it, then their monthly subscription
cost goes towards any items they decide to keep. If the cost of what they keep is greater than the
subscription service, they charge the consumer s card for the remaining clothes, typically at a
discounted price. On the business side there are a few major upsides to retail based

Man With A Film Camera, Directed By Dziga Vertov And Edited
Man with a Movie Camera, directed by Dziga Vertov and edited by his wife Elizaveta Svilova, is an
experimental film released in 1929 after having been filmed over a period of three years in urban
U.S.S.R and is considered by some to be both a documentary and avant garde cinema (Aitken, 2011,
p. 602). The film was shot in the Soviet cities of Kiev, Moscow and Odessa (Nytimes.com, 2015).
Unlike Hollywood and the growing trends of Russian silent Cinema at the time, Vertov chose not use
actors, theatrical elements and melodrama to capture the urban sprawl of Soviet Russia; calling drama
a corrupting influence on the proletarian sensibility (Kolchevska et al., 1986). Vertov s cinematic

Kino eye . I make the viewer see in the manner best suited to my presentation of this or that visual
phenomenon. The eye submits to the will of the camera and is directed by it to those successive points
of the action that, most succinctly and vividly, bring the film phrase to the height or depth of
resolution (Vertov, Michelson and O Brien, 1984, p. 16).
Vertov with his Kino pravda or cinematic truth (McLane, 2012, p.44) took an incredibly technical
approach to filmmaking. He believed that because the camera s ability to capture was via a mechanical
process, the camera s mechanical eye could capture reality with greater clarity than the human eye.
Because of Vertov s Kino eye philosophy and the experimental nature of Man with a Movie Camera,
his cinematography had a playfulness to it; using camera to fullest of its potential, and skillfully
selecting different filmmaking techniques and effects as to best capture his subject. The nature of the
film, and its broad use of techniques
(in particular: montage, double exposure, split screen, Dutch angle, fast cutting, and slow and fast

Compare And Contrast Rome And Grecians
Religion and government played an important role in lives of Grecians and Romans during ancient
times. Both nations were polytheistic and militaristic, however only Rome switched to Christianity,
broke up, (rather than collapsed), after national conflict and was centralized. Both Grecians and
Romans were polytheistic. Because Greece and Rome were two of the earliest civilizations, the
ignorance of this earlier time prevailed. People were unsure of why certain events could occur, (like
the rising and setting of a sun), and set out to delegate a position and meaning for all of the Gods they
dreamed up. Failure to appease these Gods would result in punishment. For example the sun wouldn t
rise or the crops would die. Sacrifices were often given ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 4. Sex And The City Of Rome Essay Sex. It s the taboo. We don t like to talk about it because it makes us uncomfortable, but when analyzed, it can tell us so much about a society, their core values, and the ideals that controlled their society. Though the saying is doing it like the Greeks when talking about something perceived explicit and raunchy, Rome had quiet the culture of sexual back and forth as the Greeks once had, and that Western culture experiences today. Sex and the city of Rome had complicated lines of what was acceptable and what was not. Through research, the concept of purity, of both the free roman bloodline, and the purity of the roles of males and females, serves as a guiding concept when analyzing what is acceptable and not in ancient Rome. Pudicitia is the core value in Roman sex culture, and in all cases it is clear that the purity of Roman women, men, and free born bloodline is the utmost concern. Both girls and men, however particularly girls, were imagined to uphold pudicitia, a fancy virtue that will be translated as restraint or chastity. A girl with a high degree of pudicitia, that is, a univira or one man lady, would ask for above all to seem modest and to limit her social interaction with men apart from her husband and male relatives. At a similar time, a single lady didn t suffer stigma; within the higher categories, it had been common and even expected for a single or unmarried lady to espouse. • 10. The Sound Devices Used Within the Tyger by William Blake Where the Sleeping Tyger Lies: An Analysis of the Sound Devices Used in The Tyger by William Blake The Tyger, written in 1974, is one of both simplicity and mystery. Within this poem written by old English William Blake, there are 13 full questions within this short 24 line work. Though many literary analysts have attempted to forge a meaning from this work, not one theme has a more correct stance than any of the others. One clear symbol within the piece is the Tyger, who represents some form of evil entity, quite possibly Satan himself. One possibility for the theme is that the poet is questioning why God would create such an evil being. This can be exemplified in the first stanza and last stanzas, where the word could is changed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alliteration is used quite frequently in Blake s work, and is apparent in nearly all of the stanzas. Some clear examples of this sound device are burning bright (1) or distant deeps (5). These alliterations only further add to the hint at a prayer like state of the poem, but also go on to help the poem have a smoother rhythm and flow. They are evident throughout the entire piece, and do tend to get quite a bit repetitive at times, but are always used effectively and to put strong emphasis on whatever is being alliterated. These alliterations point more directly towards the specific ideas mentioned earlier, and are Blake s stabs at again creating a larger focus on the words selected. This is can be easily compared to highlighting words read aloud, as the audience and reader will take mental notes of them as they are spoken, and refer back to them when questioning the idea and theme of the poem. Though both assonance and consonance are not completely un evident in the piece, they are never used to convey any form of meaning or to add any depth to the piece, but rather they both blend to help the writing have smoother flow and not seem as choppy as it would without these sound devices. Because of this, these don t particularly focus on anything to help convey any specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Larger or dramatic changes are more difficult. As with smaller changes to the norm, you must first seek clarity. Find out as much as you can why the change is necessary. Make sure you know as much as possible. I am always honest with my people. When I dont like something or think a change is going to be difficult I admit it. As a follower, I have sat through too many gratuitous roll calls where the sergeant or lieutenant is giving us happy talk. I recommend you say something like, I dont like this anymore than you do. But, this is how we are going to do it. This admission is actually an emphasis of the norm of obedience to orders and the value of you place on it. After you have made this admission, adopt the new norm and place the appropriate value on it. Dont undermine yourself or your organization by rolling your eyes or somehow expressing that you dont believe the new change should be implemented. As with the minor change, ... Flexible Bronchoscopy Study Abstract: (143 words) Flexible bronchoscopy allows a full inspection of the central airways and has become the most commonly performed diagnostic procedure by the pulmonologists. The knowledge of airway anatomy is the most fundamental requirement of every bronchoscopist. Interestingly, normal endobronchial anatomy is an exception. There are numerous and frequent anatomical variations of the central airways making the examitaion unique for every individual. It is imparative for every bronchoscoipist to be fully cognizant of the common congenital anomalies involving the central airways. In a bronchoscopy series by Beder et ai, 475 of 1,114 patients were found to have at least one tracheo bronchial variation; trifurcation of the left main bronchus was accounted in 0.1 % of tracheo bronchial variations [6]. This anomaly has been regarded as a displaced pre hyparterial type of tracheal bronchus [66]. Theoretically, it is possible that trifurcation of the left main bronchus could be a spectrum of left tracheal bronchus. It should be differentiated from the double right Iung type of bronchial isomerism syndrome. Right sided bronchial isomerism is a rare anatomical variation (situs solitus) consisting of a left lung that is identical to the right lung at the bronchial and lobar level [67]. This type of anatomical variation is usually associated with congenital asplenia and therefore impairs immunity. In all reports of the trifurcation of the left main bronchus produced no symptom and was an incidental finding during a bronchoscopic examination performed for an unrelated indication. Even now, her discussion of breaking away from the male model of what a woman should be is extremely relevant; For the wall which has been razed / don t now insist on raising it again. • 16. Relation Between Architecture And The Environment.this... An architect cannot build a consistent and stable structure without knowing the relationship between architecture and the environment. This topic should be discussed on various angles. One of them is the aesthetical point of view, and the other is the human intervention in nature. The former is essentially an artistic debate and a generic timeless topic since the beginning of architectural practices. The other one is a more contemporary issue. In a broader aspect, this topic isn t only the architect s interest, but also is an issue of engineers, scientists and even social scientist s; and yet it can even extend to global warming concerns. For this reason, let us firstly start and find out the most current dispute entitled as human intervention in nature. Humans since their very first existence have been in a big struggle against the nature. However, they shape the nature to suffice their needs and in essence adapt themselves accordingly into the conditions given by the Mother Nature. Over time nature has resisted to this human endeavor in every possible way it can and tried not to surrender humans. No matter how strong this resistance is; humans somehow found a way to break it down with their inborn skills that they managed to develop in time. This can be regarded as a seamless dance between these two enormous forces. As the nature manifested itself as an obstacle where humans accomplished to push it away, this struggle shaped the way in which humans developed a way of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Reflection Paper On I Am Invincible I like to assume I am invincible, that nothing terrible will ever happen to me. It wasn t until my life started to fall to pieces that I realized I had to try just as hard as everyone else in this world. Having too much pride, or what some refer to as tragic flaw, will almost definitely lead to one s downfall. Personally, my problem was that my understanding of the law was simplistic. All the rules that responsible citizens follow day in and day out somehow didn t apply to me. I could pick fights, I could stay out past curfew, I could vandalize others property, and it would never come back to hurt me. In fact, I was not only hurting myself but all those around me. My father, my girlfriend, and everyone who was only trying to help me had suffered through me being the manipulative addict I was. A sincere saying is that, People who use others as stepping stones , eventually lose their balance . I have not only stepped, however stomped on a multitude of people in my life. For instance, I have stolen from my own family s wallets in order to get my fix. In this past year I have had to reteach myself how to live. I needed consequences to change. It wasn t until I started to realize I wasn t invincible that I started to realize the way I was approaching every situation in my life was no longer going to work. After I spent time in jail, and having time to ponder the decisions I had made to put me there; I realized my life, as I was living it, was not doing anything for me. It was getting me nowhere in life, costing absurd amounts of money, destroying relationships, and making me unhappy. The only thing I have been looking for my whole life is happiness, chasing it with substances for a temporary fix. In reality, I was making myself more miserable. Beverly Daniel Tatum states in her article, The Complexity of Identity: Who Am I, : Triggered by the biological changes associated with puberty, the maturation of cognitive abilities, and changing societal expectations, this process of simultaneous reflection and observation, the self creation of one s identity, is commonly experienced in the United States and other Western societies during the period of adolescence. Discrimination And Harassment Against Women Throughout the 20th century, women were often seen as eye candies and mannequins at work, and in many cases, they even encounter sexual molestation. Discrimination and harassment against women is still prevalent in the workplace. During the 2013 fiscal year, Courts enforced 7,256 charges of sexual harassment, out of which, women comprised 82.6 % of victims, while there were 27,687 cases of gender discrimination. Our era has seen new conventions and legal philosophies, which are steering towards female emancipation. Courts have passed laws such as Title VII, of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religious belief, gender, or national origin of the person. These laws empower women and aim to forestall them from facing any discrimination or hostility at work. Civil rights provide protection to women, but it fails to provide the sense of equality that women deserve. During the 20th century, our society has envisioned a vast movement for Equal Right Amendment (ERA). The ERA was a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution, which guaranteed equality between human races and women, under law. The bill failed in 1982, when it did not receive enough state votes for the confirmation. To a historian, North Country can present insight about gender inequality in the late 20th century. • 22. Economies Of Scale And Scope Economies of Scope: Economies of scale and scope help producers lower their cost by producing the next unit of output at lower costs this trend continues until production reaches a level of diseconomies of scale where production is no longer running as efficient as it should. This tends to increase the barriers to entry for new competitors as when they enter the market they will experience a higher cost of production. Why? Solely because they have smaller economies of scale and cannot afford to sell the product at the same price as other much larger firms. Generally, economies of scale and scope positively affect General Electric. Since General Electric is one of the biggest conglomerates in the world it has the opportunity to offer products and services through the same organization. These products might be highly unalike but due to the wide range of businesses covered by GE the prospect is there. For example, GE, in order to continue a healthy relationship with valued customers, has allowed the multimillion dollar purchase of its jet engines to be financed over long periods of time. The catch is that these finance opportunities are usually done via a leasing arrangement from GE Finance. In recent year GE has pursued a service strategy when it comes to selling aircraft engines. They sell what they call power by the hour this enables the private firm to indirectly rent the engine turbines, in return the firm would award GE with maintenance contracts on the engines. This ... • 25. William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying Essays William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying In his book, As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner pioneers new and interesting literary forms. His most obvious deviation from traditional novel writing was the new style of narration in which he used all the main characters as the narrator at one point or another. This allowed the reader to gain insight into the character s thoughts, and also to prove very interesting and entertaining. Faulkner also ignores all boundaries that sane people have placed upon the English language to keep it readable. Faulkner forges his own set of rules for syntax that allow for a very choppy yet elegant stream of consciousness in the character s narration. Lastly, Faulkner makes incredible leaps away from established ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faulkner does a great job of varying the attitudes and styles of the characters as they narrate in turn, but this creates a confusing atmosphere, especially in the first few chapters. For instance, the first section is narrated by Darl who talks about Jewel, Tull, and Cash like we are supposed to know who they are. The next section is by Cora who mentions Addie, Kate, and Mrs. Lawington, and talking about issues with each one of them, and we still don t know who Darl is. As you could imagine, this creates quite a bit of confusion in the first part of the book, until the reader can sort through the characters, but by that time, a quarter of the book is gone and needs to be reread. An upside of this method, however, is that it allows the author the full use of the minds of his characters, and he can create a more clear picture of their thoughts. Another peculiarity of the narration of this book was the idea of stream of consciousness. Faulkner uses his words to try to express what the characters are thinking at that moment. The thoughts tend to ramble a little, with one idea leading onto another, and many of them not making sense unless some assumptions are made of past events. This form of narration is made possibly by the use of fragment sentences, run ons, and many other strange ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This can be derived from the following equation: P1 V1=P2 V2 The common use of this equation is to predict how a change in pressure or volume will alter the volume/pressure of the gas. They told me that the East side of Joliet would be my best chance of experiencing a new cultural experience. The following day, I decided to take a trip to this region. As I came closer to approaching the East side, I noticed that the surroundings around me started changing quite drastically. A great percentage of signs posted on billboards and businesses were written in Spanish. No English on the signs was visible anywhere either. I also noticed that great amount of businesses that were being run by Hispanic men. Considerably much greater than any businesses located in my neighborhood. I decided to stop at a small corner store located right next to Joliet Central high school. The store was called Supermercado Joliet . When I walked inside, I noticed that many of the products being sold weren t the everyday product that I was used to seeing being sold in a Walmart or Jewel Osco in my neighborhood. Many labels on the products sold were completely foreign to me. A middle aged man behind the cash register noticed me glimpsing at the products and he approached me asking me something ... • 35. Smallwood s Middle Passage Smallwood s, like Taylor s, qualitative analysis is based on white sources as none where written by the slaves themselves. However, Smallwood is able to get over this hurdle by comparing her archival findings with the cultural, social, and political features of the societies of the Gold Coast. Interestingly, Smallwood relates the experience of the Middle Passage with African cultural notions of cosmology and funeral rights and rituals. Her approach is refreshing as she is not simply interested in the quantity of slaves brought to market through the middle passage, but rather, she is interested in the experience of the middle passage and how that experience turned Africans into slaves. Smallwood s goal is to bring the people aboard slave ships to life as subjects in American social history. Her goal is one of agency, and is an important and critical goal of any social history. Smallwood traces the transformation, step by step, of Africans to slaves. The human being is central to this transformation. • 36. The Significance of the Storm in A Tale of Two Cities by... A Tale of Two Cities, a book written by Charles Dickens in 1859, describes the situation of France and the French Revolution. At the end of Chapter Six, Dr. Manette, Lucie Manette, Charles Darnay, Sydney Carton, and Miss Pross are at a Tea Party. A turbulent storm occurs and incites an eerie mood within the characters. Charles Darnay starts telling a story about a paper he found. After telling the story, Dr. Manette begins to feel ill. Following this is a section which contains multiple literary elements. In Chapter Six, Dickens utilizes descriptive literary devices, such as imagery, personification, and anaphora, to foretell the French Revolution and set the mood of the passage. The use of suspenseful imagery allows for a descriptive foreshadow of the French Revolution. At the end of the chapter, Dickens compares people to the storm by showing a crowd of people with its rush and roar, bearing down upon them too (109). The Third Estate is depicted as rowdy and very thundering by means of their rush and roar. If the people linger to this extent for a Revolution, this rowdiness can cause a massive war. Soon enough there was a great hurry in the streets, people speeding away to get shelter before the storm broke (107). The storm, being synonymous with the Revolution, will cause a great hurry to the Third Estate due to their unpreparedness. Civilians, speeding away, try to get to shelter before the revolution starts to become too brutal. In the night a storm of thunder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wordsworth feels that we are detached from the world and its beauty because we have become so careless about how we view the world. For example, Wordsworth writes, We lay waste our powers; / Little we see in Nature that is ours;/ We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon! (2 4). In this passage, Wordsworth talks about how the world and its nature is significant to mankind because we depend on it, but we choose to overlook it because we have lost our meaningful connection. We waste our days being ungrateful to the world instead of appreciating the life it holds. Our world does so much for us and yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, This Sea that bares her boson to the moon (5), sleeping flowers , (7) and The winds that will be howling at all hours, these samples show how Wordsworth gives nature human like qualities. He does this to create character in nature. Another literary element Wordsworth uses is similes. For example, Wordsworth writes, The winds that will be howling at all hours, / And are up gathered like Carr 2 sleeping flowers (7). He uses a simile to compare how the flowers look like they are sleeping, giving it a human quality. People take the information they gather and piece it together to create perspective, and further develop it into knowledge that feeds progress in all areas of life. As society has advanced both technologically and culturally, the value and demand on education has been directly impacted. Its impact on egalitarian civilization and contribution to individualism in the United States is critical (Kraft Furlong, 2015, pp. 342). However this common ancestor causes humans to be curious about these creatures. As discussed in Jane Goodall s video Among the Wild Chimpanzees we were once considered to be human because of our use of tools but once we observed these non human primates using tools, this perception was changed forever. The question now at hand is if having the chimpanzees that we study in captivity makes a difference between studying wild chimps. Water Is An Important Factor That Affects Sorption Water is an important factor that affects sorption because when there is excess water or when water drains through soil from sources at the surface, adsorbed pesticide molecules can become unattached, or desorbed, and wash away to a new location (Rao, 1999). Just as degradation has a measure in the half life of a compound, sorption also has a measure in the partition coefficient (Koc), which is a ratio of pesticide concentration in a soil bound state versus dissolved in soil water (Rao, 1999). In fact, the solubility of a pesticide and its sorption on soil are inversely related; [in other words], increased solubility results in less sorption (Rao, 1999). Both sorption and degradation are effected by soil type and pH, both of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Volatilization is a means of major pesticide loss and its rate of loss can often exceeds that of degradation, runoff, or leaching (van der Werf, 1996). For example, in an Oregon study, soil samples 64km from any agriculture were found to have DDT residues, and in Saskatchewan, Canada, 20% of 2, 4 D iso octyl ester volatilized in 24 hours (Pimentel, 1995). Once in the atmosphere, pesticide residues can spread anywhere, even Antarctica (Pimentel, 1995). Large amounts of pesticides and organic compounds can be transported around the globe in the atmosphere, for example, in the atmosphere of the Netherlands, the amounts of BHC, DDT, and heptachlor were reported to be 4600, 1064, and 190 pg/m 3, respectively (Pimentel, 1995). Topography and Geology Topography and geology affect pesticide movement in as much as directing or transporting pesticides. Topography is very obvious, for example, if a field is right next to a river, it is much more likely for runoff to get into the river system, or if a field is in a low area not very far above the water table, pesticides are very likely to leach into the groundwater. On the other hand, a field could be high and dry and very far from any river or groundwater, but if it is hilly that can pose its own problems. As T. Y. Tong and Chen point out, surface runoff is an important source of non point pollution (Tong and Chen, 2002). Though it was pointed out by van der Werf that volatilization is the biggest source of ... C. elegans allow for an exceptional model organism because it is easily raised in the laboratory setting, it reproduces rapidly, has a short life cycle of 3 days where it develops from egg to adult worm, only 1.3mm in length, and although only having 959 somatic cells, it shares many characteristics with other multicellular organisms like having organs and a nervous system (Kaletta). These nematodes can either be a self fertilizing hermaphrodite where each animal produces both sperm and egg, or they can be males that will mate with the hermaphrodites (Brenner). When a hermaphrodite self fertilizes, the chance of having a male being produced is extremely low at just 0.1%, however, when a hermaphrodite is fertilized by a male, the ratio of males to hermaphrodites is generally equal making it 1:1 (Altun). INTRODUCTION As claims the premise below, the ecological (e.g., temperature, humidity, altitude, and alimentation) and social (relationships with the environment and other organisms) factors could mould the perceptual and cognitive characteristic of a given species. It means that among nonhumans vertebrates they learn differently and have difference intelligence. Some authors, such as Clayton et al. (1998), supports this point of view. But this is not a universal thought within the scientific world. Mcphail and Bolhuis (2001), for example, do not see a relation between cognitive abilities and ecological factors. Moreover, Mcphail (1982, 1885), with his null hypothesis, claims that all vertebrates non humans are of equal intelligence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It can be pointed out as a social factor the complexity of the social group where a given species lives. Recently, it has been found evidence that supports the link between social complexity and transitive inference, which indicates that animals that show superior transitive reasoning are those who are highly social (Brannon et al., 2008). Transitive inference could be defined as a form of deductive reasoning that allows one to derive a relation between items that have not been explicitly compared before (Lazareva, 2012). To analyse the relation between transitive inference and social complexity, Brannon et al. (2008) use two laboratory experiments, which include two species of lemurs: ringtailed and mongoose lemurs. Ringtailed lemurs are highly social while mongoose lemurs are less social. Within the two experiments, Brannon et al. (2008) found that both species were capable of transitive inference, but ringtailed lemurs were more capable to detect the underlying linear order of an ordinal series. It means that the both species do not differ directly in their ability to make transitive inferences, but in their ability to detect the underlying linear order. So, according to Brannon et al. (2008), it suggests that the social complexity is important in order to detect and reason about the rank order of conspecifics, which are important to survive when animal lives in a complex social group with linear dominance ...
