Lord Durham Vs Lord Elgin
Gia Barela
Lord Durham Vs. Lord Elgin Lord Durham and Lord Elgin played a major role in setting the
foundation of Canada as we know today. However, Lord Durham was the mastermind behind the
idea of establishing a more responsible government to benefit the future of all Canadians. Durham
was appointed governor general by the British government to search for answers on why the
rebellion had occurred and the solutions. He observed that the issue of the rebellion was not
between the people, but the system of government. With that being said, the system of government
was flawed in a sense that majority of the French population, especially in Lower Canada, were not
getting the proper representation they rightfully deserve. Therefore

Examples Of Community Assessment
Community Assessment
The community that I live in is an urban environment. I live in Rochester, New York, which is
considered to be economically poor. My community has a lot of activities for people to be involved
in; some activities are the neighborhood watch team, volunteer opportunities at local schools,
recreation center and much more. However my community is struggle with funding. An idea or
strategy to address the funding situation is to have a fundraiser to raise money and bring awareness
to the situation. Having a fundraiser would encourage residents to spend their money within the
community. Spending money within the community is one way that residents can give back to the
community. A short term outcome from spending money in the... Show more content on

Most residents rent their homes, because people are always coming and leaving Rochester.
Most people only stay in Rochester to save up money so thy can move to a better community
like Greece, Pittsford or Henrietta. Faith based organization are very active n the community.
They are always having a food drive, clothes give away and church services in the street.
Churches are always looking to recruit resident into their religion. Churches hope that if thy can
get a person to believe in their religion that people will turn away from their sins and do better in
life. Business and property owners do not spend a lot of their time in Rochester or even keeping up
their property in Rochester. Business and property owners spend most of their time and money in
other community s. Most business and property owners own property in Rochester and multiple
other community s. I have never came across any business person or propty management who only
has a business I the community. The reason that they have several business is because a person
could not live off of the money that they would bring in if they only had business in my community.
There are not a lot of resources so resident spend their money in other community s that have the
resources that they need. Most resident are on social services such as section 8 and other welfare
services. We do not have an headquarters for social services in my community it is in Pittsford,
which is thirty eight miles away from my community. Most residents do not drive, so in order to get
to the headquarters residents would have to get on fours buses just to get to the office. Larger
institutions and community organization profit in the community. McDonald and Burger king
always have business in their stores. Community organizations are not after money, but they are
after volunteers. Most people that volunteer do not live in the community, they live in better

Nina Waymone Case Study
The Case of Nina Simone
She loved Bach, Chopin, Brahms, Beethoven, and Schubert. She trained nearly 8 hours a day to
become a classical pianist. She would go on to become the High Priestess of Soul . Eunice
Kathleen Waymon, or as the world famously knows her, Nina Simone, never wanted to be a jazz
musician. She believed that her role in society was to be the first African American classical
pianist in America. Durkheim s theory of forced division of labor can be used to explain why this
never became true. Anomie played a major role in shaping the life of someone who would later
fight against it.
Nina Simone by all accounts was a music virtuoso. At a young age, Nina was able to hear a song
and play it by ear. She played in a small church in the Jim Crow South where her mother pastured.
One day, a white woman heard Nina playing the piano and offered to give her lessons. She herself
was an immigrant, and hope to train Nina to become one of the world s best classical pianist. At
their first lesson, the instructor showed her a piece written by Bach. Nina absolutely loved it. Nina

She was denied. Those that knew her and that followed her work up until that point knew that
there was only one reason that she was not accepted into the program; racism. She had the talent
necessary but was denied the chance. Crushed, she now had to find a job. She decided to play at
a club. There, she played a plethora of music, ranging from gospel, classical, and pop hits. The
owner told her that if she wanted to continue she would have to sing as well. Nina Simone had
never sung up until this point and classical music normally doesn t allow for singing. She decided
to play jazz music, and from that moment on, she became one of the best voices, and brilliant

Beauty Of Climbing In Yosemite National Park
Beauty of Climbing
In the early days, you noticed El Cap, but we didn t pay much attention to it because it was kinda
quote unquote out of the question. Royal Robbins
A climber said this meaning there are things impossible to climb but if you dedicate enough time
and effort, you can do it. This was said by the first person to team and climb the west face and
Salathe wall of El Capitan. This shows any climber can do anything, you just have to work.
No matter how much or how little skill a rock climber has, climbing in Yosemite National Parkcan
give some amazing views, stories, a feel of the history. But to have these experiences the climber
must know climbing types.

Great Britain s Role In Canada
From confederation to the turn of the century, Canada has been a nation that maintained close ties
with Britain, its mother country. The strong connection between Canada and Britain is often used
to define what Canada is. This relationship more or less determined what the people of Canada
believed in, acted upon and looked up to. During this period, the lack of a clear identity put many
Canadians in search of one. However, there were little in common between the Canadians across the
nation. This encouraged many people of Canadato worship the British model of culture, morals and
beliefs. The sense of security and status that they see to be a product of their connection with Great
Britain prompted a great number of imperialists to support Canadians... Show more content on

After the confederation, instead of unity, many Canadians felt diversity was too strong of a
sentiment to ignore. It has proved that the passage of time did little to mute cultural differences
and [perhaps] deepened and intensified [the divisions]. It was apparent that appeals to a common
language, a common cultural tradition, or a common religion were simply impossible for
Canadians. This then prompted many people in Canada to find a way to establish Canadian
nationalism, or simply define what being Canadian means. Although Canadians were struggling to
find common ground in the initial stages after confederation, they presumed more or less that
their day to day life would be carried out in accordance with the British model when the
newcomers arrived. It was in people s conscience that an Anglo Canadian society modelled
exclusively on a British mould was a possible option. During this period of confusion, the
connection between Canada and Britain gave Canadians a sense of direction and provided a model
that they could follow. In the early fuzzy stages of struggling to identify themselves, Britain
somehow provided people of Canada a culture, morals and beliefs to abide by and give off a sense
of security during their continuous search of a Canadian identity. Many Canadians recognized that

Analysis Hanging Fire Barbie Doll
Thesis Statement Introduction An analysis of the literary elements imagery, symbolism, and tone

and their struggle with their identity in society.
Summary of Barbie Doll In the poem Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy, we read about a young girlwho
has self image problems. Due to the expectations of society, she is not happy with her physical
appearance. She had many good qualities but is unable to see these for herself. Instead she only
sees is a a great big nose and fat legs (Piercy,1936). In order to conform to society s idea of beauty,

Hanging Fire may have been her way of expressing the guidance of her mother could have helped
her through her confusion with her sexuality. I think this really impacted her, so she reminds
herself and the reader of it at the end of every stanza.
Compare/Contrast Authors Use of Literary Element Imagery Imagery is used to depict identity
issues in Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy and in Hanging Fire by Audre Lorde. In both Barbie Doll
and Hanging Fire, a young girl struggles with their appearance. In Barbie Doll the author Marge
Piercy uses imagery to portray a young girl who is unhappy with the way she looks. For instance,
in the following lines She was healthy, tested intelligent, possessed strong arms and back,
abundant sexual drive and manual dexterity. She went to and fro apologizing. Everyone saw a fat
nose on thick legs, (Piercy, 1936) although she possessed several good qualities, the only thing that
stood out to her was her nose and legs. In Hanging fire, the author Audre Lorde uses imagery to
show a young woman struggling with her identity as well, not only with the physical part of her
identity but the emotional side as well. After repeated use of the line, and momma s in the bedroom
with the door closed, (Lorde, 1978) it is apparent the young girl struggles without the guidance of
her mother.

Threat of new Entrants:
The possibility that there will be a new entrant into the game console industry is quite unlikely, for
many reasons. The technological know how is quite high, and would require significant capital to
invest into, in order to be able to compete with current competitors; the fixed costs to produce such
consoles would also be quite high (When
Sony first launched the PS3 the manufacturing costs amounted to roughly 800 USD per unit,
meaning Sony had to accept losses on each console sold. Now however they managed to reduce
the costs by 50%)8. Sony also holds an impressive portfolio of patents, which would make it hard
for any new comer to compete without making some sort of arrangement with Sony.9 Since the
PlayStation brand has been around for over fifteen years, Sony has the advantage of long term
branding as well as high customer loyalty towards their brand.10 Therefore the threat of new
entrants is: Relatively Low.
Rivalry within Industry:
As there are currently three companies in the game console market, the industry growth rate is
quite low, however now with the threat of mobile gaming , this rate has slowed down even more,
reaching a saturation point in 2009. 11

Department Of Wildlife Essay
Introduction
There is a passion for hunting deeply implanted within the human breast...: Charles Dickens
(Oliver Twist, 1837). Long before grocery stores and frozen food sections, men and women had to
hunt to provide meat and protein for their family. Hunting in order to feed a family or clan used to
be a necessity to sustain life. Anymore, the demand to harvest animals from the wild is not as high
as it once was. However, hunting is still used as a pastime and considered a sport here in the
United States. While many consider it unnecessary because we do have the frozen foods sections, it
is a beloved sport from many Americans.
Even though hunting isn t used primarily for meat consumption anymore, the sportsmen are
expected to eat what they kill and not waste any part of the animal. In addition, ... Show more

Fertility Rate And Age Specific Fertility Rates
This paper will explore the population phenomena pertaining to Singapore acquiring and sustaining
low fertility, which has ultimately resulted in an ageing population. There is a multitude of
interconnected factors that have contributed to Singapore s low fertility, and more importantly how
this has reduced younger populations being added every year. However, this paper will focus on the
premise that women s higher educational attainment has prompted a delay in marriage, and thus a
delay in having babies. Therefore, this paper will evaluate statistics retrieved from the International
Data Base from the Census Bureau Website that include the Total Fertility Rate
and Age Specific
Fertility Rate in Singapore over a span of twenty years.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Age Specific Fertility Rate is contingent on the age of a woman and places her in groups of
women based on their age and then predicts how many babies each woman is expected to have
over a period of time based on a specific population (Poston Bouvier, 2010, p. 45). In Singapore,
the Age Specific Fertility Rate peaked for women between the ages 30 34 in 1997, 2007, and
2017. However, while there was a reduction in fertility rates for all ages across a women s life
span from 1997 to 2007, there was a slight increase in fertility rates in 2017 for the age groups 30
34, 34 39, 40 44, and 45 49 (Refer to Graph 1). While elderly women tend to have fewer babies on
average than younger ones, which is true for Singapore, the slight increase in childbearing in later
years indicates changes in the structure of individual lives and the society as a whole. This data
ultimately suggests that women in Singapore are waiting longer to get married and have children,
which are pertinent causes of the country s low fertility and ageing population. While there are
many societal and economic factors contributing to delays in marriage and reproduction, this paper
will focus primarily on the increase of Singaporean women obtaining higher education and
subsequently joining the workforce. In the article, Delayed marriage and ultra low fertility in

Modest Tchaikovsky s Personal Life
Tchaikovsky s personal life, and especially his sexuality, have been discussed to an extent that is
very uncommon for most composers of his time. Although he achieved much success, he also
suffered through much trauma. He often fell into depressive episodes, and worked through
many trials, such as his mother s death, his own suppressed homosexuality, and the loss of his
good friend and sponsor Nadezhda von Meck. His homosexuality was a source of much
contention in his life. Writings to his brother, Modeste Tchaikovsky in 1876 reveal his decision to

According to OpenSecrets.org,
Super PACs may raise unlimited sums of money from corporations, unions, associations and
individuals, then spend unlimited sums to overtly advocate for or against political candidates.
Super PACs must, however, report their donors to the Federal Election Commission on a monthly
or quarterly basis the Super PAC s choice as a traditional PAC would. Unlike traditional PACs,
Super PACs are prohibited from donating money directly to political candidates. 2
While Super PACs do need to make financial disclosures to the FEC on a monthly basis, their
ability to take donations from corporations leaves them amble room to leave the names of their
end donors undisclosed. Many Super PACs report donations as coming from one or multiple
501(c)(4) (politically active non profit) organizations that do not have to disclose their donors. This
is referred to as the Russian nesting doll problem among campaign finance reform advocates.
It is worth noting that the rise of Super PACs and other forms of unregulated campaign spending is
of concern to politicians too. President Obama, as part of his 2010 State of the Union Address, said,

Design And Design Of Design Essay
Design and build is a generic term describing a procurement route in which the main contractor is
appointed to design and construct the works, as opposed to a traditional contract, where theclient
appoints consultants to design the development and then a contractor is appointed to construct
the works. Design and build can appeal to clients as it gives a single point of responsibility for
delivering the entire project. Some clients however consider it is only appropriate for simple
projects, wheredesign quality is not the main consideration. The contractor can either be appointed
to carry out all of the design work, or if the client wishes to have greater influence over the design,
a concept design and outline (or performance)specification can be prepared by a consultants
employed by the client, and then the contractor is appointed to complete the design and carry out
the construction. The contractor may use their own in house designers to design the building, or
they can appoint consultant designers, or the client s designers can be employed by the contractor
to complete the design (either by novation or consultant switch). If the contractor is appointed at the
outset of the project (so that they can contribute to the development of the design from the
beginning), they may be appointed through a two stage process. In the first stage, the contractor is
selected on the basis of a fee, preliminaries, overheads and profit. They then work with the design

Renaissance Humanism
The Renaissance was remarkable because of the ideas of humanism that proliferated during that
time period. From the humanism movement, many more concepts developed from it, primarily
education and how significant it was. Originally, Renaissance education was fixated on Classical
literature, and it was widely celebrated (Doc 1, Doc 2, Doc 3). Centuries later, it was ridiculed
because it provided no teachings of essential subjects (Doc 5, Doc 6). Renaissanceeducation was
initially deemed important for religious, social, and glorification reasons, but as time advanced, it
was constantly challenged because it was useless to society, taught unnecessary subjects, and only
affected a small fraction of people; as a result, it ultimately failed to survive. At the beginning of
the extensive time period, Renaissance education was regarded as a crucial part of society, but
Italian scholars greatly exaggerated it. Piccolomini, an Italian humanist, wrote of humanism
because it was when the Renaissance was just being introduced and when the movement was at its
peak. According to him, gaining knowledge of the Classical culture is vital because it displays the
greatness of man. The enlightenment of the mind was dependent on the study of philosophy and
letters (Doc 1). But if the greatness of man was only limited to studying literature, then the
standards of man s greatness must be absurdly low. Being given an education that provided a wider
range of useful subjects would be a more

Lab Report Kinetics of Chemical Reactions Kinetics of chemical reactions is how fast a reaction
occurs and determining how the presence of reactants affects reaction rates. In this experiment the
rate of reaction for Fe+3 and I is determined. Because the rate of chemical reactions relates
directly to concentration of reactants, the rate law is used to find the rate constant, and calculated
with specified temperatures. Two catalyst reactants are used in the experiment, thiosulfate and
starch, to dictate the time of reactions. The order with respect to Fe+3 and I is also determined by
graphing the slope of the log rate initial as a function of the log (Fe+3) or (I ). The activation

The Arch and Dome were the most distinctive features of the ancient Roman architecture. Roman
buildings significantly differed from those of Greek and so the new architectural style was created.
Mainly because of high population densities and wealth in the cities, the ancient Romans
discovered their own architectural solutions. In particular, they applied arches and vaults as well as
building materials enabling them to attain the unprecedented progress in the construction of public
structures. The Colosseum, the basilicas, the Baths of Caracalla and the baths of Diocletian, the

Cookmaid With Still Life Of Vegetables And Fruit
Fashion is a platform in which one can represent themselves. People are often characterized and
assessed based on what they wear and how they present their body to the world. This notion of
clothing not just being for function but also for expression dates back long before the modern
age. In the early seventeenth century, for example, an artists portrayal of apparel was used as a
symbol of wealth and status. The paintings Cookmaid with Still Life of Vegetables and Fruit
(Figure One), Probably Mary Lady Scudamore (Figure Two), and Dudley, the 3rd Baron North
(Figure Three) all depict people of different prosperity and backgrounds. The three subjects in the
paintings don distinctively different attire. In this essay, I will consider how... Show more content on

The subject of the portrait, Dudley North, is pictured wearing a knee length rich black garment
fully embroidered in silver thread, paired with an extravagant set of shoes. He also dons a white
collar and cufflinks made of lace, paralleling those depicted in the portrait of Lady Scudamore.
The color and materiality of the attire convey the elite status of Dudley. The subject of the
painting was a principle courtier of James I, a role that placed him in the heart of clothing. The
court members developed into models for the noble style of dress, with royalty spending
thousands of pounds annually for their wardrobe. In the modern world, fashion is predominately a
female dominated industry. However, in the early seventeenth century, the dress of men was of
greater importance than that of woman, as aristocratic woman often lived privatized lives whereas
men were more exposed to society. The fit of the male outfit also held a high significance, just as it
did for the female. In the portrait, Dudley s waist is highlighted through the tight tailoring of the
costume, and is enhanced by the belt that clasps his sword. The male representation of fashion was
a symbol of aristocracy in seventeenth century England and was used in portraiture in order to
express one s wealth, as seen through the painting of Dudley

You Can Hear Him From The Corridor
You can hear him from the corridor. Neil Young is kicked back on a lounge chair in the focal
point of his suite at New York s Carlyle Hotel one late morning, cutting without end at the series
of his acoustic guitar. His wet hair is brushed back and he s wearing a T shirt that says Earth,
with pants and shoes. He puts his beat up 1940s Martin past proprietor: Hank Williams by him
on the sofa. Take a seat, make yourself at home, he says. Simply then, his Samsung telephone
rings; the ringtone is his own particular voice yelling Hi?! He grabs a wrong number. I ll simply
turn it off, that ll comprehend it. Youthful is amidst a fast New York trip, and, as is regular for
him, his calendar is perpetually moving. He simply chose to do a portrayal on The Tonight
Show, constraining his group to cross out a few meetings today. Before Young are verses to the
drama bit, a melody called Two Neil Youngs Sitting on a Tree Stump, sent to him by Jimmy
Fallon. Youthful doesn t care for singing his own particular name, so he s been tweaking the
words with assistance from his administrator, Elliot Roberts. You re going to get a credit on this
one, Young says to Roberts with a grin. Roberts, 73, has worked with Young since the late
Sixties, and the two still talk a few times each day. I ve never seen him more content, Roberts says.
That is a late advancement, nonetheless. In the previous couple of years, a few of Young s nearby

Arm Wrestling With My Father By Brad Manner
The love this father has for his son is unique and unequivocally expressed, as one will discover in
this compassionate and heartwarming short essay Arm Wrestling with My Father, written by Brad
Manner. Brad Manner wrote this persuasive essay for his freshman composition course, where he
shared his unique relationship with his father, as the two bonded through ritualistic father son
competitive arm wrestling. His father s arm symbolizes the strength and love he has for his son.
However, as the story progresses into Manner s college years, the symbolical power and strength of
his father begins to fade as his father s unwavering strength weakens with the inevitable and
unforgiving progression of ageing. During an arm wrestling competition, for the first time Manner

old fish that Lake Ouachita holds, but you can never catch, and when you finally think you ve
got him, you want to let him go, cut the line, keep the legend alive (Manner 170). Manner
realized that the roles between he and his father were beginning to change. His father s arms
were once a symbol of his father s strength, love, and security. Manner himself said, Whenever I
am near him I am unafraid, knowing his arms are ready to catch me and keep me safe , (170).
Manner would prefer that this inevitable change does not occur, and questioned if he could

Doctors and nurses may also use medical terminology when discussing something in front of a
patient in order to prevent undue anxiety. Medical jargon is not at all meant to speak in pig latin
in front of a patient. It is so that there is no mistake when doctors are conveying information
about a patient to each other. For example, to a lay person, fever may mean that the person feels
hot, or that the temperature is above 100 Fahrenheit. But no one really knows and can cause a lot
of confusion. With medical terms, things are very clear, so that even a surgeon in France can read
a scientific journal article and know exactly what the author means. That way, also, medicine can be
global and that the medical societies can share ideas and innovations. Since everything in a patient s
medical records must be documented, from signs and symptoms, to the patient s medical history, to
the final diagnosis and treatment, it saves the doctors and all other medical personnel a
considerable amount of time to use a universally accepted form of medical terminology. And, even
more importantly to use medical terminology, means it will be safer when all medical
professionals, from doctors and nurses, lab techs to radiology techs, etc. use the same universal
medical terminology so they don t have to try to guess what was ordered or charted on the patient
s medical records or what procedure a patient needs.

The Importance Of Technology For Classroom Communication
The Importance of Technology for Classroom Communication
I have always thought that good communication is a vital part of succeeding. With all the
technology the world has to offer today there are more than enough ways to create exceptional
communication between people. In order to understand someone there needs to be good
communication. To have a relationship, business or personal, there must be good communication.
For someone to put their trust in another person, there should be good communication. Before
technology, the only real way to have a conversation with anyone was face to face. Now, I m not
saying communicating with someone in person is unnecessary, because it very much is, however,
this day and age we are lucky enough that we don t have to wait for a convenient time to talk to
someone. Let s face it, as a teacher there is no convenient time. According to Holcomb, Castek, and
Johnson, it is important to keep classroom teachings current with the present day (2007). This is
where technology and its importance comes into play for teacher and student/parent communication.
Why Teacher/Parent Communication is Important
Teachers not only work with children, they work with children s parents as well. Having good
communication between both the student and their parents is very important. As previously
mentioned, good communication leads to success, which means part of being a good teacher is
having good communication. If a teacher is not good with communicating this can

Analysis Of The Quiet Screams Of The Horror Blockbuster
A discussion about the strong interest in thrilling movies is both tantalizing and more academic
than one may think. In a story, Why We Crave Horror Movies, by Stephen King the interest lies
in the psychology behind horror movies. However, the article, The Quiet Screams of the: Horror
Blockbuster, in SCREEN EDUCATION relates to how the filmmakers incorporate specific
elements to create an experience. There are many noticeable similarities and differences
between a story and a related article about why humanity desires to watch horror movies. Both
the story and the article indicate that the evil essence in scary films makes the viewer feel more
normal. The story gives an example of the audience, not being the most alluring of the human
species, but none of the viewers will ever be anything like the true repulsiveness sometimes seen
on the silver screen. In the article, however, a point is made that there may be no evil being, or
horrendous picture to compare oneself against in order to feel more average. It is merely the
atmosphere of the motion picture that creates a sense of fear. The SCREEN EDUCATION
article, written in April 2017, goes in depth explaining how fear is circumstantial and how a
monstrous agency is unnecessary. instead that horror is that which invokes the frightening and
provokes fear on the part of the audience... no monstrous agency need be present (3). The article
explains how a scary movie can rely simply on build up and can still be considered a

Absolute Pneumonia Essay
Jane Peterson has a principle diagnosis of acute pneumonia. Pneumonia is characterised as an
inflammatory infection of the lung tissue, specifically affecting the alveoli ( Pneumonia , 2017).
The infection may affect one or both the lungs and can be caused by a virus, bacteria and even
fungi in people with compromised immune systems ( Pneumonia , 2017). Additionally, exposure to
a sufficient portion of organisms, other risk factors also contribute to the development of
pneumonia, such as cigarette smoke, malnutrition, abnormal anatomical structure and difficulty
swallowing (Gale Encyclopedia of Children s Health, 2015).
The lungs are comprised of thousands of tubes called bronchi, which lead to small air sacs called
alveoli, which are responsible for exchanging oxygen to the blood and unloading carbon dioxide
from the red blood cells ( Pneumonia , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The onset of pneumonia causes more mucus production, which will induce more coughing to help
clear out the airways ( Pneumonia , n.d.). However, mucus plugs reduces the efficiency of the gas
exchange in the alveoli ( Pneumonia , n.d.). The replication of bacteria in the alveoli induces the
production of cytokines and capillary leakage with the accumulation of plasma and white blood
cells. This further propels this cycle, where the release of cytokine is continued and more
inflammatory cells are drawn to the alveoli (Musher, 2016). In other words, the debris from the
sheer number of white blood cells produced to fight the infection , causes the alveoli to be further
filled with fluid ( Pneumonia , n.d.). Further, the cytokine damages the fragile alveoli and causes
swelling due to fluid retention (oedema), which becomes a perfect breading ground for the
organisms ( Case study ,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech To The Virginia Convention...
Patrick Henry, a representative of a frontier region in Virginia, in his Speech to the Virginia
Convention warns the representatives of the Virginia Convention that based on their previous feud,
the British have shown that they are not ones to be trusted. At the time of the speech, the British
had offered the colonist a deal to relieve taxes on the condition that they will fully support British
rule and will contribute to the maintenance of English troops. Within the speech, Henry reminds the
representative of Britain s past tyrannical behavior and remarks on the past treatment they received
prior to the time of the Convention. Along with an exasperated and satirical tone, Henry utilizes
rhetorical appeals to persuade the representatives of the VirginiaConvention to not accept Britain s
deal and to instead take up arms against them. Henry opens up his speech using ethical appeals,
establishing credibility and showing his values as a representative. Before going on to explain
his take on the situation, Henry first acknowledges the opinions of the representative, knowing
that his speech can lead to some extent of controversy. He states, I hope that it will not be
thought disrespectful to those gentlemen, if, as entertaining as I do, opinions of a character very
opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve (Henry). By first
acknowledging the opinions of the representatives, Henry establishes himself as a considerate
person, and shows that although he has strong opinions of the situations, he still will respect the
decisions and opinions of the representatives. The audience is then lead to fully look into his
idea as a viable option, as he shows strong moral character. Continuing on, Henry goes forth to
show his dedication for the country, explaining that, For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it
may cost, I am willing to know the worst and to provide for it. So by showing his willingness of
sacrificing his happiness for the sake of the country, Henry displays to the representative that his
priorities will always lie with America first; thus, this leads the representatives to fully entrust
Henry as he shows that he will always do what s best for the country as he cares

Essay On Government Branches
I believe that having the government split into 3 branches is a good idea because none of them
could over rule over the others. If it wasn t like that just imagine all the possible things that can
occur. Another reason for them to be split up is so that they don t get overwhelmed with
everything that they have to do. So that s one of the main reasons we have our government split
into 3 different branches. Checks and balances is a really good thing to help our system because
it doesn t allow our government branches to be more powerful then the other. All branches have
huge roles towards our government but i think this one has the most important role because it has
the president and all the people that pretty much run our country. The Executive branch carries out
and enforces the laws. Unlike the Judicial branch they put a to the laws while the Executive
branch enforce the laws. The Executive branch contains the president, vice president and the
cabinet. The head of the Executive branch is the president because he s the commander of armed
forces and runs the miltary and he helps carry out laws that are approved. The cabinets role in the
Executive branch is to help carry out laws that are created. The vice president is a back up towards

Immigrating to Canada
Introduction
Emigrating from one s country to another causes many changes in the emigrating family, which can
be dealt in a variety of manners. It has been demonstrated that the immigrants have a tough time
adjusting into the country they have moved to. Each member of the immigrated families have an
impact of moving in a different manner, for instance, children of such families have to keep the
family rituals and customs while balancing out their school life on different scales. This literature
review will address the financial and emotional impact of each family member of an immigrated
family. The purpose is to understand that when immigrants first arrive in Canada or other developed
nations, it is not easy for them to start a new life. It requires a great deal of effort and time to fit
into a new society, especially for a middle aged person, who has spent her or his life in a very
different manner. Currently Canada needs a big number of skilled immigrants because between
now and 2021 many jobs are recognized to be unfilled, therefore1, Canadians need to understand the
immigrants, and assist them hence, they can easily adapt to the new society.
Subtopic 1: Feelings of the new immigrants

Presidential Elections And The Political Integration Of...
The 2016 Presidential Elections and the Political Integration of Data Analytics The 2016
election cycle pits Democrat Hillary Clinton against Republican nominee Donald J. Trump.
After the success of Barrack Obama s data analytics, Clinton continued their adoption of data
analytics, this time developing a new algorithm called Ada after the female, 19th century
mathematician, Ada, Countess of Lovelace (Wagner, 2016) and having Obama s former data
analytics director, Elan Kriegel, as one of the highest paid staff of her campaign (Goldmacher,
Hillary Clinton s Invisible Guiding Hand , 2016). Clinton s dependence with analytics is so
entrenched that a lot of their campaign decisions are based upon the results of Ada s 400,000
simulations per day on what a head to head with Trump would look like. Moreover, Ada, played
a vital role in determining the television ad buys, the deployment of the candidate and her
surrogates up to when to be scarce and be silent on the issues. Even the staging of concerts with
artists like Jay Z and BeyoncГ© was chiefly based upon Ada s data driven analysis (Wagner,
2016) (Goldmacher, Hillary Clinton s Invisible Guiding Hand , 2016). Contrary to the Clinton
campaign, Trump is not quick to adopt big data in his presidential bid. The Republican nominee
has always been critical towards data analytics and heavily relied on his own appeal. I ve always

The As A World Of Perfection And Reality
Art is a collection of artworks that reflects a message for the audience to interpret. Each piece of
artwork is expressed in different forms that communicate an individual s thoughts and emotions to
another person. Every artist has their own individual style which makes them different from the
rest. Although artists have similar styles, viewers have their own interpretation when they are
analyzing a piece of art in depth. Philosophers claim the uniqueness of art comes from all the
creative ideas in one s mind. Nietzsche believes the appearance of objects matters more than reality
of objects but Dewey would disagree. Friedrich Nietzscheintroduces the art world of dreams and
reality. These are two different qualities that represents Apollonian and Dionysus art. According
to Nietzsche, he describes dreams as a world of perfection and reality as a world of imperfection.
In the excerpt The Birth of Tragedy, he writes, In our dreams we delight in the immediate
understanding of figures; all forms speak to us; there is nothing unimportant or superfluous
(Nietzsche 163). By dreaming, it is possible to fantasize about your desires positively. On the
other hand, reality forces you to become aware of your true thoughts and how you are currently
living your life. The author clearly explains the reality in which we live and have our being is also
mere appearance, and that another, quite different reality lies beneath it (Nietzsche 163). When we

Biblical And Mythological Allusions Of Moby Dick
Moby Dick is Herman Melville s masterpiece, a purposeful novel that acts both as a documentary
of a sea voyage but also a philosophical allusion on life as a whole. Moby Dick is far beyond its
time in reference to its use of allusion within its text. In this novel, Herman Melville frequently
uses biblical and mythological allusions. With these strategic allusions, the reader is able to
begin to understand the topics of discussion within the book and is also exposed to the wisdom
and potential knowledge Melville possesses. Melville uses many Biblical and mythological
references in the form of character stories, which I found beneficial in helping interpret the texts
meaning (Howard, 27). This paper will discuss the Biblical and Mythological allusions that
Melville s use in Moby Dickin the hopes to develop a deeper understanding of the issues Melville
was hoping to address. An Allusion is a brief and indirect reference to a well known person, place,
thing, cultural, historical, or literary work (Delahunty, 24). As Described by Andrew Delahunty in
the Oxford Dictionary of Reference and Allusion, allusions form a colorful extension to the English
language, drawing on our collective knowledge of literature, mythology, and the Bible to help us
connect and interpret literature (26). Though an allusion is used to reference something significant,
it does not describe in detail the person or thing to which it is referring too. Writers often use
allusions as just a passing comment

This also uses the technique of personalisation like the tabloid; however it is more formal and

less harmful because they are only costly thoughts instead. There is a more formal, serious picture;
he is shown doing his job in smart clothes and he looks dignified. There is only one picture and a
lot more text which is divided into eight columns.
The sun differs from the Daily Telegraph in content greatly. The Sun only has a short paragraph of
background information whereas The Daily Telegraph has quite a large section describing Atkinson
s tributes and achievements in football. Also The Sun has much shorter quotes in its article. This is
because The Sun is known to get straight to the point in articles whilst The Daily Telegraph usually
gives all sides of the argument before coming to a conclusion.
The Sun is part of the News Corporation Group owned by press baron Rupert Murdoch and is the
best selling British newspaper selling 3.5 million copies a day, compared to The Daily Telegraph
who is part of Hollinger Inc. owned by Conrad Black. In comparison to The Sun it sells over three

Realism In The Yellow Wall-Paper
The Period of Realism and Naturalism
Realism and Naturalism are literary movements that appeared across America in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites
(Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most
evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of
detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). On the other hand,

These two characters have different levels of rationality. Of the two, Mrs. Mallard is slightly
more rational. She is an eloquent woman who knows what she wants. Mrs. Mallard depicts life
in a very clear and intellectual way. It seems, though, that she is able to do such extraordinary
logical thinking after the passing of her husband. Now that the burden of her husband has been
severed, she no longer has a mental strain. An example of this is when she states, In the street
below a peddler was crying his wares. The notes of a distant song which some one was singing
reached her faintly, and countless sparrows were twittering in the eaves (556). This line shows
how sharp she can be now that she does not have her husband s powerful will bending hers (556).
Aside from that, Mrs. Mallard s sense of hearing is perceptive and she is oddly mindful of her
surroundings. The narrator from The Yellow Wall paper is more irrational and the cause might
be the lack of freedom her superiors impose. Due to her oppression, she has become obsessed
with the wall paper. She stares at the wall paper with the purpose of finding meaning in her
hopeless life. Consequently, this is how she passes her time since she is confined to a room with
very limited things to do. As time passes, she becomes overly obsessed with the wall paper as she
points out that, they connect diagonally, and the sprawling outlines run

Focus Group Discussion
Objective The main objective of this focus group discussion was to get information from human
resource representatives, as well as a few mangers of surrounding companies about their feeling
and attitudes toward MBA programs, North Dakota State University s program specifically. Our
discussion focused on four main aspects of MBA programs: employer sponsored MBA programs,
attitudes toward MBA programs, the pros and cons of the MBA program at North DakotaState
University, and the human resource representatives thoughts on MBA employees. The information
collected from the discussion will be used to encompass MBA education in the greater Fargo

To make conversations more personal, the moderator had to address some more sensitive subjects
that would in turn make people more shy to answer, but after a few individuals would give
answers, other would bring it back to them and answer the question fully. Also, when you addressed
an individual by name, it make the conversation more relatable and would result in improvement
participation rates and positively affect quality of data gathering.
What We Would Do Differently
If we could do this focus group again, we would try and include a larger collection of
participants. This improvement would allow us to hear more insights, and give our group a wider
variety of responses. A smaller sized group may be more personal, but doesn t offer as much depth
as a slightly larger size.
Additionally, something that would help is finding ways to get people to participate more during
the focus group. Not everyone will have as much experience as the next person, but it s still
important to hear their thoughts and opinions. The more that people participate, the better our
findings will

Negative Effects Of Corporal Punishment
There have been countless studies done on whether corporal punishment actually works, or if it, in
fact, is instead causing long term adverse effects. Corporal punishment today is seen less and less
with this new generations parents. Corporal punishment was mainly seen in parenting before the
2000s. Cloud (2009) states that sociologist, Murray Straus, found that in a 1968 survey that had
taken place, 94% of Americans agreed that corporal punishmentwas seen as an acceptable form of
discipline. This percentage was then drastically dropped when Americans were re surveyed, and
72% of those people agreed that spankingwas deemed reasonable (Cloud, 2009).

Patrick Lenta (2012) speaks on the injustice that children experience when they are spanked.
Lenta (2012) expresses how these children have rights, just as adults, to not be mistreated
unjustly, and how corporal punishment violates these basic rights. He then discusses how
corporal punishment has been found to have serious psychological harm to the child, such as
fear, or mental issues. This, in turn, could cause the child to have a harder time focusing on his
or her schoolwork due to all the fear, and psychological issues they are trying to deal with as well
as trying to keep up their good grades. Since the child might have a hard time focusing on school
work, this could cause them to start to fail academically, which is an unwanted behavior to most
parents, causing them to get spanked, and this vicious cycle repeats. It has been found, that a type
of psychological effect that has been found in those children who have experienced corporal
punishment as a child has lead to have post traumatic stress disorder, in the same way, abused
children have had (Nyarko, 2017). Nyarko (2017) argues that there has been a correlation between
low self esteem and corporal punishment, and how there is a correlation between self esteem and
academic performance. In turn, this could cause the children who have experienced corporal

A Stolen Life Analysis
A Stolen Life begins with Jaycee Dugard introducing her family and summarizing her life at
home before the abduction. On June 10th, 1991, Jaycee left for school and was never to return
home. She was abducted from the side of the road by a man named Phillip. Phillip brought her
back to his home and explained what he had done and why. He did not go into much detail and
so Jaycee continued to ask questions, but did not receive answers. Phillip took Jaycee to his
bathroom where he proceeded to undress her. Jaycee cried and screamed, saying she had wanted
to go home, but Phillip ignored it. Phillip then moved her outside to a shed. This is her bedroom.
Sometimes Phillip would move Jaycee to the shed beside the one she normally resides in. This one

This connection is based on slavery, but is more specific to sex slaves. Jaycee was used as a sex
slave, and was actually threatened to be sold by Phillip at one point. There are plenty of movies
and novels that relate back to this idea and cover the problems with it in the world, but one
movie that jumps to mind right away is Taken. No, it is not based on a true story, but it shows
that it can happen anywhere, anytime and to anyone. People lose their lives to stuff like this and
that is why it is so important. The idea of sex slaves seems outdated, which is another aspect that
makes it so interesting. A person could dig deep into the past, look at what is happening now, or
even look further into future possibilities with the subject of sex

Case Study Of Audit Diagnostics
Market type, Marketing Strategy, Market share, competition:
From the information gathered in this report, it is clear that Audit Diagnostics had neither sufficient
presence in their market type nor focus on their marketing strategy. I believe this is what ultimately
caused their downfall. With most other companies we would be discussing advertising, promotions
and relationships with other companies, but Audit Diagnostics marketing is so undeveloped, the
website has not even been designed. They have no presence on TV, in newspapers or even online.
Audit Diagnostics is the perfect example of a company that failed to recognize the importance of
marketing. As a consequence the company has failed and is going into liquidation.
Competition: Based in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork, there are many pharmaceutical companies in
surrounding areas such as GE Healthcare and Pfizer. If we are looking at Audit Diagnostics as a
whole (i.e. a company creating and innovating in the field of biology), then many competitors
could be identified including those mentioned above. But due to the wide range of products and
services it is necessary to delve deeper into the specifics of what Audit Diagnostics did in ... Show

Pediatric Nurses
Nurses who specialize in pediatrics devote their knowledge and skills to caring for children.
Pediatrics is a special field because these nurses get to work with children everyday . The amazing
thing about children is that they recover and heal faster than adults. There s small and big miracles
that happen everyday in pediatrics and having a job that gets to be apart of everyday miracles is
miraculous. Building long term relationships with patients and their families can make nurses feel

We Need an International Ban on Genetically Modified...
It s Time for an International Ban Genetically Modified Humans
If you could ensure that your future children would be healthy, would you? This is a trivial question
because most parents would stop at nothing to ensure that their children are healthy. Human germ
line engineering may soon make it possible to alter the genome of human embryos permanently
changing the genetic blueprint for every cell in an embryo s body. Through human germ line
technology we could eradicate many debilitating genetic diseases (e.g. Tay Sachs disease, cystic
fibrosis etc.), prevent cancer, and even increase the average life span. Human germ line engineering
is prenatal and produces genetically modified traits that can be passed along to subsequent ... Show

However, researchers generally agree that germ line engineering will be possible within the next
twenty years (Rabino 153). When the technology does develop, the procedure for germ line
engineering will be similar to that of in vitro fertilization. For example, a couple wishes to have
a child, but they have reservations about naturally conceiving because both of their families
have a history of cystic fibrosis. They decide that the use of germ line engineering would be the
best way for them to ensure they produce a healthy child. First, the couple will go to a clinic and
some of the man s sperm and some of the woman s eggs will be harvested. These sex cells will
then be taken to a laboratory and in a Petri dish the man s sperm will be induced to fertilize the
woman s eggs. These fertilized eggs will then be allowed to develop up to the eight cell
embryonic stage. At this point one cell from each eight cell embryo will be removed for genetic
testing (this does not cause significant harm to the embryo s development because the cells are not
yet differentiated into the different types of tissue). If the genetic tests come out positive for the
defective gene that causes cystic fibrosis, the diseased embryos will undergo genetic surgery. In
genetic surgery, through various intricate methods, the defective gene is basically spliced out of the

In Many Cases, A Patient Increases Their Odds Of A Cesarean
In many cases, a patient increases their odds of a cesarean section if they chose to be induced
without causation. A study was conducted between the years of 1999 to 2000 with 3215
nulliparous women. The findings of this study showed that nulliparous women are at a significantly
higher risk of needing a cesarean section if they were electively induced (Luthy et al., 2004).
Multiple studies have looked at nulliparous versus multiparous women and have found that elective
inductions do not look to increase the odds of a woman needing a cesarean section in multiparous
women. Researchers have begun to look at other possible relationships between patients who
undergo an elective induction that results in a caesarean sectionand they have found... Show more

Elective inductions have not been proven to have a significant increase in the need for a
cesarean section. One thought for why there has been an increase in cesarean sections is that
some patients chose to ask their physician for an elective cesarean section. Some woman chose
to do so because they had their previous child by cesarean section and do not want to attempt a
vaginal delivery, while others feel a cesarean section would allow them to chose their own date
and time for a delivery. Minkoff et al. looked at ethical aspects of an elective cesarean section.
They concluded that there is no substantive justice based consideration for performing a cesarean
section (Minkoff et al., 2004). Minkoff et. al also stated that there is no self governed obligation
for anyone to offer a cesarean section in an ethically and legally suitable informed consent process
(2004). The researchers agree that if a patient initiates a request for a cesarean section to her
physician, that physician should respond with informing the patient about the process and request
that the patient reconsiders the procedure given the new information. This ensures that the patient
is rightfully informed of any possible complications and the basics behind a cesarean section. If a
patient returns and still requests for an elective cesarean section, it is ethically permissible for a
physician to implement her request (Minkoff et al.,

Reasons For Jfk Assassination
In 1963, President John F. Kennedy was sadly assassinated supposedly by Lee Harvey Oswald.
Although it is still a mystery exactly how and why he was assassinated, but we do have evidence
that could lead to possible reasoning. There are three main theories on how he was assassinated,
Oswald being the lone assassin, Oswald being part of a larger conspiracy, and that Oswald was
completely innocent. Based on the evidence, the most plausible theory is that Oswald was part of
a larger conspiracy. This is because when Kennedy was shot, the shots came from multiple
directions. They think that Oswald shot Kennedy while he was on the third floor of Texas School
Book Depository, plus he was shot with explosive rounds, which don t ricochet. So in order

The Differences Of Shinto And Nordic Religions
Since the beginning of mankind, every society has looked to religion to give meaning to life. From
a good harvest, to understanding the purpose of our existence; the belief in the divine provides a
platform on which many people can develop answers to universal questions. Through the Shinto
and Nordic religions, communities have been able to connect to the divine through their traditions,
experiencing their spirituality through worshipping a deity, engaging in festivals and even
undertaking pilgrimages. Although their distinctive cultures result in differing religious practices
for the Japanese and Norse societies, both strive to make sense of our world, and seek the meaning
to human existence.
Shintoism is the native religion of Japan, however, unlike most other religions; it claims no sacred
text or founder. Because of this, Shintoism is more commonly referred to as a reflection of
Japanese culture and history, often blending with other religions, such as Buddhism (O Neal et al.,
2007). Being an immanent religion, Shinto values the importance of experiencing harmony with the
spirits of the world, known as the kami. These kami inhabit all things, from animals and mountains,
to the spirits of the deceased (Toropov and Buckles, 2011). Although not considered all powerful,
the chief kami of this animistic spirituality is the sun goddess, Amaterasu. As the daughter of
Izanagi and Izanami, the creators of Japan, her role is to rule over the heavens, and provide the

Racism, Prejudice, And Discrimination
The movie we watched to see ageism was Up. The definition of ageism, from Meriam Webster, is
prejudice or discrimination against a particular age group, especially the elderly. In my opinion,
we can also see it against young people. We can see when a job is hiring, they might not hire
someone because they are too young, and they might think they are unprofessional. We can also see
ageismin the Bible. Proverbs 23:22 says, Listen to your father who begot you, and do not despise
your mother when she is old. I have said this in multiple papers, but God has created us all
equally and we should treat everybody with respect. In the movie, we saw the main character,
Mr. Fredricksen, acting like a typical old man. We saw him acting grumpy and irritable. When
Russell, a young boy scout, came to his house to help him, Mr. Fredricksen denied everything
that Russell offered. We saw how they do not get along, so Mr. Fredricksen sent him off to look
for a bird that does not exist, and assumed he would not come back. We also heard some ageist
remarks throughout the movie. At the beginning of the movie, the two men taking him to the
retirement home made a comment about how Mr. Fredricksen probably had to go to the bathroom
for the 80th time. We also saw how the dogs smelled prunes and denture cream, which were the
smell of Mr. Fredricksen. Despite the rocky start to the movie, we learn that Mr. Fredricksen was
actually a hero, despite the ageist comments and assumptions. The

Use Of Force And Police Brutality
Abstract The unnecessary use of force use the police officers is referred to as police use of
excessive force and police brutality. Both excessive force and police brutality involve physical
contact with a law enforcement officer with a citizen or civilian. Physical contact and police
brutality can both lead to death. It is entirely within the police officer discretion the type of force
to use during an arrest. Maybe a police officer s cannot handle making the correct judgment call,
or perhaps having too much power affects their ability to perform their job effectively. This
behavior has to stop, police brutality needs to end today. Society distrust for police has gotten
worse over the years. The police need to rebuild the trust again in America. Police brutality is a
growing epidemic. According to Statics, (2015) in the United States, a police officer takes the
life of a citizen every 7 hours. In 2015, there were 1,307 people who lost their lives at the hands
of a police officer or law enforcement official. In 2016, that number was 1,152. Although lower,
both years are still higher than the 1,149 people who were killed by police in 2014. (Fatal
Encounters/Mapping Police Violence) Whereas, 69% of the victims of police brutality in the
United States who are African American/Black were suspected of a non violent crime and were
unarmed. (Mapping Police Violence) Consequently, the police officers are indicted in less than
1% of killings, but the indictment rate for civilians involved in a killing is 90%. As a result,
police officers do not have a set of laws that apply to them. Since police brutality is high, society
now distrusts law enforcement because of their higher rate of police brutality. In order to regain
the trust of society, police brutality must STOP or maybe the police community relationship
beyond repair. Presently, the duties of a police officer, also known as a law enforcement officer,
focus on protecting people and property. They patrol the areas they are assigned, which sometimes
include entire jurisdictions respond to calls enforce laws make arrests issue citations, and
Occasionally testify in court cases However, the safety of officers and

Essay on Major Impacts of the American Revolution
The American Revolution was a war fought between Great Britain and the American colonies over
independence from 1775 to 1783 which resulted in a fundamental change in American politics,
society, and economics. The American Revolution began as a result of Great Britain taxing the
colonies to cover the debts accumulated through the French and Indian War. While the majority of
the colonies stayed loyal to their Mother Land , some of the colonist felt resentment toward
England. Some colonist felt that England had no right to tax the colonies, while they had no
representation in parliament. This created a divide within in the colonies between those who were

Some of them were crying out for paper currency, some for an equal distribution of property.
Another debate that heated the colonies was the controversy over the future of agriculture in the
colonies. Many thought that America should change into being dependent on commercial
manufacturing, while others wanted to keep agriculture the main source of income. Document F
shows the Medal of Philadelphia Society for the Promotion of Agriculture. The symbolism in the
medal is that Farming could be symbolized as the nation looking on into the future, suggesting
abundance, fertility, and liberty. Socially, the War left many groups of people questioning their role
in society. When the men went off to fight the war, the women were left to run the businesses and
assume the positions their husbands left behind. Many women, such as Deborah Sampson and
Molly Pitcher picked up their rifles fought alongside the men in the war (Document A). After the
war, the women were left questioning their subordinate in society. Women were finding their worth,
and slowly started to demand more rights. In her valedictory address from the Young Ladies
Academy of Philadelphia, Molly Wallace discussed the educational opportunities women should be
given stating But to what do they amount? Do they not plainly inform us, because we are females,

  • 2. Lord Durham Vs Lord Elgin Gia Barela Lord Durham Vs. Lord Elgin Lord Durham and Lord Elgin played a major role in setting the foundation of Canada as we know today. However, Lord Durham was the mastermind behind the idea of establishing a more responsible government to benefit the future of all Canadians. Durham was appointed governor general by the British government to search for answers on why the rebellion had occurred and the solutions. He observed that the issue of the rebellion was not between the people, but the system of government. With that being said, the system of government was flawed in a sense that majority of the French population, especially in Lower Canada, were not getting the proper representation they rightfully deserve. She would go on to become the High Priestess of Soul . Eunice Kathleen Waymon, or as the world famously knows her, Nina Simone, never wanted to be a jazz musician. She believed that her role in society was to be the first African American classical pianist in America. Durkheim s theory of forced division of labor can be used to explain why this never became true. Anomie played a major role in shaping the life of someone who would later fight against it. Nina Simone by all accounts was a music virtuoso. At a young age, Nina was able to hear a song and play it by ear. She played in a small church in the Jim Crow South where her mother pastured. One day, a white woman heard Nina playing the piano and offered to give her lessons. She herself was an immigrant, and hope to train Nina to become one of the world s best classical pianist. There, she played a plethora of music, ranging from gospel, classical, and pop hits. The owner told her that if she wanted to continue she would have to sing as well. The strong connection between Canada and Britain is often used to define what Canada is. This relationship more or less determined what the people of Canada believed in, acted upon and looked up to. During this period, the lack of a clear identity put many Canadians in search of one. However, there were little in common between the Canadians across the nation. It has proved that the passage of time did little to mute cultural differences and [perhaps] deepened and intensified [the divisions]. This then prompted many people in Canada to find a way to establish Canadian nationalism, or simply define what being Canadian means. Although Canadians were struggling to find common ground in the initial stages after confederation, they presumed more or less that their day to day life would be carried out in accordance with the British model when the newcomers arrived. It was in people s conscience that an Anglo Canadian society modelled exclusively on a British mould was a possible option. During this period of confusion, the connection between Canada and Britain gave Canadians a sense of direction and provided a model that they could follow. In the early fuzzy stages of struggling to identify themselves, Britain somehow provided people of Canada a culture, morals and beliefs to abide by and give off a sense of security during their continuous search of a Canadian identity. In both Barbie Doll and Hanging Fire, a young girl struggles with their appearance. In Barbie Doll the author Marge Piercy uses imagery to portray a young girl who is unhappy with the way she looks. For instance, in the following lines She was healthy, tested intelligent, possessed strong arms and back, abundant sexual drive and manual dexterity. She went to and fro apologizing. Everyone saw a fat nose on thick legs, (Piercy, 1936) although she possessed several good qualities, the only thing that stood out to her was her nose and legs. In Hanging fire, the author Audre Lorde uses imagery to show a young woman struggling with her identity as well, not only with the physical part of her identity but the emotional side as well. After repeated use of the line, and momma s in the bedroom with the door closed, (Lorde, 1978) it is apparent the young girl struggles without the guidance of her mother. Threat of new Entrants: The possibility that there will be a new entrant into the game console industry is quite unlikely, for many reasons. The technological know how is quite high, and would require significant capital to invest into, in order to be able to compete with current competitors; the fixed costs to produce such consoles would also be quite high (When Sony first launched the PS3 the manufacturing costs amounted to roughly 800 USD per unit, meaning Sony had to accept losses on each console sold. Now however they managed to reduce the costs by 50%)8. Sony also holds an impressive portfolio of patents, which would make it hard for any new comer to compete without making some sort of arrangement with Sony.9 Since the PlayStation brand has been around for over fifteen years, Sony has the advantage of long term branding as well as high customer loyalty towards their brand.10 Therefore the threat of new entrants is: Relatively Low. • 13. Department Of Wildlife Essay Introduction There is a passion for hunting deeply implanted within the human breast...: Charles Dickens (Oliver Twist, 1837). Long before grocery stores and frozen food sections, men and women had to hunt to provide meat and protein for their family. Hunting in order to feed a family or clan used to be a necessity to sustain life. Anymore, the demand to harvest animals from the wild is not as high as it once was. However, hunting is still used as a pastime and considered a sport here in the United States. While many consider it unnecessary because we do have the frozen foods sections, it is a beloved sport from many Americans. Even though hunting isn t used primarily for meat consumption anymore, the sportsmen are expected to eat what they kill and not waste any part of the animal. In addition, ... • 14. Fertility Rate And Age Specific Fertility Rates This paper will explore the population phenomena pertaining to Singapore acquiring and sustaining low fertility, which has ultimately resulted in an ageing population. There is a multitude of interconnected factors that have contributed to Singapore s low fertility, and more importantly how this has reduced younger populations being added every year. However, this paper will focus on the premise that women s higher educational attainment has prompted a delay in marriage, and thus a delay in having babies. Therefore, this paper will evaluate statistics retrieved from the International Data Base from the Census Bureau Website that include the Total Fertility Rate and Age Specific Fertility Rate in Singapore over a span of twenty years.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Age Specific Fertility Rate is contingent on the age of a woman and places her in groups of women based on their age and then predicts how many babies each woman is expected to have over a period of time based on a specific population (Poston Bouvier, 2010, p. 45). In Singapore, the Age Specific Fertility Rate peaked for women between the ages 30 34 in 1997, 2007, and 2017. However, while there was a reduction in fertility rates for all ages across a women s life span from 1997 to 2007, there was a slight increase in fertility rates in 2017 for the age groups 30 34, 34 39, 40 44, and 45 49 (Refer to Graph 1). While elderly women tend to have fewer babies on average than younger ones, which is true for Singapore, the slight increase in childbearing in later years indicates changes in the structure of individual lives and the society as a whole. This data ultimately suggests that women in Singapore are waiting longer to get married and have children, which are pertinent causes of the country s low fertility and ageing population. While there are many societal and economic factors contributing to delays in marriage and reproduction, this paper will focus primarily on the increase of Singaporean women obtaining higher education and subsequently joining the workforce. In the article, Delayed marriage and ultra low fertility in Singapore... ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Design And Design Of Design Essay Design and build is a generic term describing a procurement route in which the main contractor is appointed to design and construct the works, as opposed to a traditional contract, where theclient appoints consultants to design the development and then a contractor is appointed to construct the works. Design and build can appeal to clients as it gives a single point of responsibility for delivering the entire project. Some clients however consider it is only appropriate for simple projects, wheredesign quality is not the main consideration. The contractor can either be appointed to carry out all of the design work, or if the client wishes to have greater influence over the design, a concept design and outline (or performance)specification can be prepared by a consultants employed by the client, and then the contractor is appointed to complete the design and carry out the construction. The contractor may use their own in house designers to design the building, or they can appoint consultant designers, or the client s designers can be employed by the contractor to complete the design (either by novation or consultant switch). If the contractor is appointed at the outset of the project (so that they can contribute to the development of the design from the beginning), they may be appointed through a two stage process. • 18. Renaissance Humanism The Renaissance was remarkable because of the ideas of humanism that proliferated during that time period. From the humanism movement, many more concepts developed from it, primarily education and how significant it was. Originally, Renaissance education was fixated on Classical literature, and it was widely celebrated (Doc 1, Doc 2, Doc 3). Centuries later, it was ridiculed because it provided no teachings of essential subjects (Doc 5, Doc 6). Renaissanceeducation was initially deemed important for religious, social, and glorification reasons, but as time advanced, it was constantly challenged because it was useless to society, taught unnecessary subjects, and only affected a small fraction of people; as a result, it ultimately failed to survive. At the beginning of the extensive time period, Renaissance education was regarded as a crucial part of society, but Italian scholars greatly exaggerated it. Piccolomini, an Italian humanist, wrote of humanism because it was when the Renaissance was just being introduced and when the movement was at its peak. According to him, gaining knowledge of the Classical culture is vital because it displays the greatness of man. The enlightenment of the mind was dependent on the study of philosophy and letters (Doc 1). But if the greatness of man was only limited to studying literature, then the standards of man s greatness must be absurdly low. In this experiment the rate of reaction for Fe+3 and I is determined. Two catalyst reactants are used in the experiment, thiosulfate and starch, to dictate the time of reactions. The order with respect to Fe+3 and I is also determined by graphing the slope of the log rate initial as a function of the log (Fe+3) or (I ). • 34. Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech To The Virginia Convention... Patrick Henry, a representative of a frontier region in Virginia, in his Speech to the Virginia Convention warns the representatives of the Virginia Convention that based on their previous feud, the British have shown that they are not ones to be trusted. At the time of the speech, the British had offered the colonist a deal to relieve taxes on the condition that they will fully support British rule and will contribute to the maintenance of English troops. Within the speech, Henry reminds the representative of Britain s past tyrannical behavior and remarks on the past treatment they received prior to the time of the Convention. Along with an exasperated and satirical tone, Henry utilizes rhetorical appeals to persuade the representatives of the VirginiaConvention to not accept Britain s deal and to instead take up arms against them. Henry opens up his speech using ethical appeals, establishing credibility and showing his values as a representative. Before going on to explain his take on the situation, Henry first acknowledges the opinions of the representative, knowing that his speech can lead to some extent of controversy. He states, I hope that it will not be thought disrespectful to those gentlemen, if, as entertaining as I do, opinions of a character very opposite to theirs, I shall speak forth my sentiments freely and without reserve (Henry). By first acknowledging the opinions of the representatives, Henry establishes himself as a considerate person, and shows that although he has strong opinions of the situations, he still will respect the decisions and opinions of the representatives. The audience is then lead to fully look into his idea as a viable option, as he shows strong moral character. Continuing on, Henry goes forth to show his dedication for the country, explaining that, For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the worst and to provide for it. So by showing his willingness of sacrificing his happiness for the sake of the country, Henry displays to the representative that his priorities will always lie with America first; thus, this leads the representatives to fully entrust Henry as he shows that he will always do what s best for the country as he cares ... • 35. Essay On Government Branches I believe that having the government split into 3 branches is a good idea because none of them could over rule over the others. If it wasn t like that just imagine all the possible things that can occur. Another reason for them to be split up is so that they don t get overwhelmed with everything that they have to do. So that s one of the main reasons we have our government split into 3 different branches. Checks and balances is a really good thing to help our system because it doesn t allow our government branches to be more powerful then the other. All branches have huge roles towards our government but i think this one has the most important role because it has the president and all the people that pretty much run our country. The Executive branch carries out and enforces the laws. Unlike the Judicial branch they put a to the laws while the Executive branch enforce the laws. The Executive branch contains the president, vice president and the cabinet. The head of the Executive branch is the president because he s the commander of armed forces and runs the miltary and he helps carry out laws that are approved. It has been demonstrated that the immigrants have a tough time adjusting into the country they have moved to. Each member of the immigrated families have an impact of moving in a different manner, for instance, children of such families have to keep the family rituals and customs while balancing out their school life on different scales. This literature review will address the financial and emotional impact of each family member of an immigrated family. • 37. Presidential Elections And The Political Integration Of... The 2016 Presidential Elections and the Political Integration of Data Analytics The 2016 election cycle pits Democrat Hillary Clinton against Republican nominee Donald J. Trump. After the success of Barrack Obama s data analytics, Clinton continued their adoption of data analytics, this time developing a new algorithm called Ada after the female, 19th century mathematician, Ada, Countess of Lovelace (Wagner, 2016) and having Obama s former data analytics director, Elan Kriegel, as one of the highest paid staff of her campaign (Goldmacher, Hillary Clinton s Invisible Guiding Hand , 2016). Clinton s dependence with analytics is so entrenched that a lot of their campaign decisions are based upon the results of Ada s 400,000 simulations per day on what a head to head with Trump would look like. Moreover, Ada, played a vital role in determining the television ad buys, the deployment of the candidate and her surrogates up to when to be scarce and be silent on the issues. Even the staging of concerts with artists like Jay Z and BeyoncГ© was chiefly based upon Ada s data driven analysis (Wagner, 2016) (Goldmacher, Hillary Clinton s Invisible Guiding Hand , 2016). Contrary to the Clinton campaign, Trump is not quick to adopt big data in his presidential bid. The Republican nominee has always been critical towards data analytics and heavily relied on his own appeal. I ve always felt it was overrated, Trump said in an Associated Press interview. • 39. The As A World Of Perfection And Reality Art is a collection of artworks that reflects a message for the audience to interpret. Each piece of artwork is expressed in different forms that communicate an individual s thoughts and emotions to another person. Every artist has their own individual style which makes them different from the rest. Although artists have similar styles, viewers have their own interpretation when they are analyzing a piece of art in depth. Philosophers claim the uniqueness of art comes from all the creative ideas in one s mind. Nietzsche believes the appearance of objects matters more than reality of objects but Dewey would disagree. Friedrich Nietzscheintroduces the art world of dreams and reality. These are two different qualities that represents Apollonian and Dionysus art. According to Nietzsche, he describes dreams as a world of perfection and reality as a world of imperfection. In the excerpt The Birth of Tragedy, he writes, In our dreams we delight in the immediate understanding of figures; all forms speak to us; there is nothing unimportant or superfluous (Nietzsche 163). By dreaming, it is possible to fantasize about your desires positively. On the other hand, reality forces you to become aware of your true thoughts and how you are currently living your life. The author clearly explains the reality in which we live and have our being is also mere appearance, and that another, quite different reality lies beneath it (Nietzsche 163). Biblical And Mythological Allusions Of Moby Dick Moby Dick is Herman Melville s masterpiece, a purposeful novel that acts both as a documentary of a sea voyage but also a philosophical allusion on life as a whole. Moby Dick is far beyond its time in reference to its use of allusion within its text. In this novel, Herman Melville frequently uses biblical and mythological allusions. With these strategic allusions, the reader is able to begin to understand the topics of discussion within the book and is also exposed to the wisdom and potential knowledge Melville possesses. Melville uses many Biblical and mythological references in the form of character stories, which I found beneficial in helping interpret the texts meaning (Howard, 27). This paper will discuss the Biblical and Mythological allusions that Melville s use in Moby Dickin the hopes to develop a deeper understanding of the issues Melville was hoping to address. An Allusion is a brief and indirect reference to a well known person, place, thing, cultural, historical, or literary work (Delahunty, 24). As Described by Andrew Delahunty in the Oxford Dictionary of Reference and Allusion, allusions form a colorful extension to the English language, drawing on our collective knowledge of literature, mythology, and the Bible to help us connect and interpret literature (26). Though an allusion is used to reference something significant, it does not describe in detail the person or thing to which it is referring too. This, in turn, could cause the child to have a harder time focusing on his or her schoolwork due to all the fear, and psychological issues they are trying to deal with as well as trying to keep up their good grades. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elective inductions have not been proven to have a significant increase in the need for a cesarean section. One thought for why there has been an increase in cesarean sections is that some patients chose to ask their physician for an elective cesarean section. Some woman chose to do so because they had their previous child by cesarean section and do not want to attempt a vaginal delivery, while others feel a cesarean section would allow them to chose their own date and time for a delivery. Minkoff et al. looked at ethical aspects of an elective cesarean section. They concluded that there is no substantive justice based consideration for performing a cesarean section (Minkoff et al., 2004). Minkoff et. al also stated that there is no self governed obligation for anyone to offer a cesarean section in an ethically and legally suitable informed consent process (2004). The researchers agree that if a patient initiates a request for a cesarean section to her physician, that physician should respond with informing the patient about the process and request that the patient reconsiders the procedure given the new information.
