Tower cranes
Tower cranes are fixed to the ground and have an asymmetrically balanced horizontal boom, with a short arm carrying counterweights and a long arm carrying lifting gear. They consist of a tower footing, fixed or climbing tower, swing ring, boom, counterweight, trolley, and operator's cabin. Tower cranes are time-saving, multipurpose, heavy-duty machines that provide high performance lifting even in critical situations and can be transferred between projects, with optimum utilization of resources when idle. However, they are cumbersome to erect and dismantle, have high initial and dismantling costs, require skilled operators, and can hamper schedules and create safety issues if defective.
