2. A Brief Note On The Mother Of God Standing On A Hillside...
Connor Monahan Dr. Stringer Huma 201 J 17 October 2015 Medjugorje: A Mother s Call to Her
Children In June of 1981, six children clamed to see Mary the Mother of God standing on a hillside of
Medjugorje, a small town in south east Yugoslavia. These children, four girls and two boys, claim to
continue to have Marian apparitions every day, to this day. Thousands of pilgrims each year travel to
Medjugorje each year to witness the visionary s appropriations. These apparitions are not approved by
the Catholic Church yet. These apparitions are real and there is Biblical and physical proof for it.
Many come to Medjugorje and claim to witness miracles, such as healings and other miraculous
events. Some claim that these miracles are actually satanic and led people father away from Jesus.
These claims are absolutely false, and hundreds are converted to Christianity, healed, and brought
closer to God by this one place. On June 24, 1981, Vicka Ivonovic woke from a nap to go out to play
with here two friends, Ivanka Ivonovic and Mirjana Dragicevic. When she met up with them, they
were at the base of the hillside near the town of Medjugorje. Their faces were flushed and Mirjana
pointed to the hillside saying, Look up there the Madonna (Parsons 6). Vicka did not even look before
turning away and running back to the safety of the village. While on her way back to the village she
ran into Ivan Dragicevic, one of her friends. After Vicka explained her encounter with

5. Oedipus Vs Hamlet Essay
When dealing with universal themes in plays like Oedipus or Hamlet, a set time period is not
necessarily required. A production of Hamlet could take place in the year 2016 and make sense if
adapted correctly. What is important when adapting a play is not presenting it exactly as the
playwright wrote it hundreds of years ago, in the case of Shakespeare s Hamlet, but keeping the
themes that make the play what it is. To completely change the story of Hamlet and differ too greatly
from the original story would defeat the purpose of the production. The director has to adhere to the
main themes of whichever play they choose because that play they chose obviously carries the
message they want to send to an audience. A director s job is to bring their ideas about a play to life
and present that to an audience, therefore, demonstrating their ideas for that audience. The ideas
spread and are then absorbed by an audience member, who leaves the play filled with the new
knowledge or new ideas.
Older plays, like Oedipus or Hamlet, are the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When adapting a play into a different historical era or setting it in modern times, maintaining the
essential themes that make the play what it is cannot be manipulated. However, some main ideas and
themes in a play can be enhanced or made clearer to the audience by setting the play in a different
time period. It all depends on whether the creative team behind a production can communicate their
meaning and the change to the audience. If the audience understands the change, the interpretation and
adaptation is successful. Implementing a new idea or a different outlook into an older play might
enhance the play by bringing forth political points that correlate with today s society and its issues,
prompting the audience to take note and reflect on our problems and attempt to find a

6. Cultural Assimilation In The United States
As the beginning the definition of Cultural Assimilation is when a community or a community are
integrated into a majority group (dominant) and have the opportunity to acquire the same

specificity.
Other cultural assimilation is colonization, historically many of the world s cases occurred in several
nations of Europe in other continents. In modern times England, which has a high degree the genius of
colonization, and that work has done wonders in America, Asia and Oceania, unable to ever be
assimilated to other civilized peoples subject to his authority.

This process can be extremely complex because not all the time groups of people like these yearn to
assimilate the country where they are, for many of them is better defend the culture of their home,
something that can bring difficulties as marginalization and rejection. Others make the process of
assimilation of partial and pragmatic way, clarify, they assume the dominant cultural elements in
society and retain their own demonstrations in a very intimate level.Others demonstrate freedom to
take their host culture and forget their origins frequently and even manage to disown them. With much
logic I believe that children are much more open to cultural assimilation than others. If we talk about
loss of culture and values we approach immigrant assimilation, but if their own traits persist and are at
the break. The problem is that the theory does not leave between seeing the possibility of maintaining
loss and gain at the same time. The choices always move between the ordained and exclusive poles

7. Aegeus Theory Of Theseus
Theseus, also known as Thiseas, is a Greek hero that ruled Athens as king. He was no god nor had any
special powers, just his strength and intelligence to give him a name for himself. There is many
theories on his origin, a question mostly of who his father is. One theory is his father is Poseidon, his
mother being Aethra. This comes into play later on when he is asked to prove his heritage to Minos,
which he does by retrieving his ring in the sea. He ends up being successful, but Minos just laughs this
action off as if it didn t matter much to him. Another theory is that Aegeus is Theseus father, which I
ve found more stories of because it aligns with the fact that Theseus was prince of Athens, and to be
that he d have to be Aegeus son. In both stories the mother is Aethra. Aegeus needed an heir, which he
left for Aethra to raise until he was ready to retrieve a sword and sandals left by Aegeus himself. When
Theseus became old enough to move the rock that was imprisoning his birthright, he headed to Athens
to meet his father and take his place as prince. This little adventure, according to Pantheon.org, turned
out to be quite rough, as Theseus encountered many troubles along the way. Dangerous and unsettling,
he ended up defeating multiple burglars, which made him a hero once he returned to Athens. Such a
hero, in fact, that Aegeus wife was concerned about people favoring him over Aegeus and set out to
poison the man s wine. She does, but Aegeus spots Theseus

8. Women s Rights During The Civil War
Falling within a timeline of political and social inequality, the American Civil War came at a key time
to change the women s rights landscape. The period leading up to the Civil War, however, did not see
a society ready to change, and thus, little work was done towards the women s rights movement.
According to Women s Civil War History author Mary Elizabeth Massey, women s rights activists
before the Civil War were small in numbers, but opinionated (qtd in Hall 1 2). Dogmatic women s
rights activists were stuck in a world that deemed women as inferior, which created a society ripe for
change; change that would make significant headway during the Civil War through the creation of the
female run United States Sanitary Commission. The USSC was a civilian operation unlike any other
that aimed to coordinate supplies, relief, and medicine during the Civil War while simultaneously
empowering women to leave the domestic sphere. Founded in 1861 and staffed with at least 3,200
paid female nurses and hundreds of additional volunteers, the USSC was, according to the
Commission itself, a grand system of sanitary care and succor, (Williams 136, The USSC iii).
However, societal views did not change overnight as the women of the USSC worked throughout the
war and into the years after to erase the gender divide. Overcoming considerable opposition to its
creation, the USSC mobilized women through organization and work experience, changing their
political standing and public perceptions of

As healthcare professionals, those in the field of radiology work to support sick and injured patients
on the road toward diagnosis and recovery. Though many may see radiographers as employees serving
a purpose to aid those with a disabling injury, many fail to acknowledge the possibility of
radiographers being prone to injury themselves. There are many factors that contribute to the risk of
work related injuries, which include heavy physical work, lifting and forceful movements, bending
and twisting, sustained poor postures, and repetitive or frequent movement patterns. As a
radiographer, job requirements entail repetitive movements involving lifting and positioning patients,
some of which fail to cooperate or are unable to follow verbal direction. Also, some patients who are
unable to assist in moving and position create added stress to multiple joints and muscles for the

to defeat their battle with depression. As shown in both Judith Guest s novel Ordinary People and

throughout the stages of recovery. Both Conrad, the protagonist of Ordinary People, and Styron are
tormented with severe depression and trying to overcome suicidal urges; Guest shares Conrad s

power, in the utmost bounds of it, is limited to the public good of society (pg. 746). Where instead of

Jesus is cleansing him from this mental illness, and this is considered a healing miracle. Christians
may translate that sort of miracle to today s society as to when someone, who is not Christian and is
sinful, finds god and is forgiven of their past sins. They would say it is a miracle for that person to be
healed spiritually.
A key point on this topic is a big part of our lives today in the modern society: science. Of course,
something that was seen as a healing miracle in the time when the bible was written is accepted as
normal procedure now as scientists now know so much about health and the body. We know leprosy
not to be contagious whereas in the bible lepers were excluded and seen as outcasts. People with
mental illnesses were thought were thought to be possessed by the devil, however we now recognise
these people to suffer illnesses such as schizophrenia. For example, a woman in the bible had a
haemorrhage that Jesus cured and this was considered a healing miracle. Today, for someone with a
haemorrhage, treatment would be expected and being cured would not be a shock. So if it was
considered miraculous in Jesus time, is it still considered miraculous today? It is the same situation but
because of medical advances it is no longer seen in that status. If a healing miracle needs to defy
scientific laws then we are

Broadcasting is $14 billion industry that includes radio and television, as well as the distribution
services of cable, satellite, and, increasingly the Internet and mobile devices (Gasher, Skinner, Lorimer
218). The Canadian government regulates broadcasting because it serves national, cultural, and
political goals (Gasher, Skinner, Lorimer 219). The reason for comparing regulations between sound
recording and broadcasting is the fact that a great proportion of radio broadcasting is recorded music.
There is a significant symbiosis between radio broadcast policy and policies designed to encourage the
production and dissemination of Canadian music (Gasher, Skinenr, Lorimer 225). Radio broadcasters
are required to have a license in order to broadcast music through their channel. The Canadian Radio
television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is in charge of issuing these licenses to
broadcasters. Today, the CRTC s duties in the broadcasting field include: issuing and renewing
licenses, up to a maximum of seven years, modifying existing license conditions, and suspending or
revoking licenses (Gasher, Skinner, Lorimer 221). It is evident that the use of sound recordings within
the field of broadcasting is strictly regulated. This further develops an idea that the sound recording
industry will become regulated within the future, as it is present in such a vast

Authority is both a problem for us today, unwilling to be manipulated towards a hierarchical cultural

coronary and systemic perfusion are often present, and commonly lead to multi organ failure, which,
results in further insult and injury. Initial management involves the use of vasopressors and inotropes

We optimized his medical therapy, inotropic support and performed a successful cardioversion.
Despite these interventions, the patient s clinical status continued to decline with worsening fluid
retention, progressive AKI (SCr 3.8mg/dl) and multiple episodes of ventricular tachycardia and
ventricular fibrillation terminated by his implantable cardiac defibrillator (SAVE score 2) 5. We made
the decision to insert a partial right ventricular assist device and a left ventricular assist device with
extracorporeal membrane oxygenation for biventricular support and oxygenation. The patient
underwent a left mini thoracotomy, with off pump trans apical placement of a 31 French ProtekDuo®
cannula. We secured the device using 3.0 Prolene purse string sutures. The cannula provided a route
for blood exchange with the inflow port located in the left ventricle and outflow port and cannula tips
situated 2 3cm above the aortic valve. The blood circulated by the cannula passed through an extra
corporeal membrane oxygenator (TandemLung®) and pump (TandemHeart®). We also placed a 21
French IVC SVC venous cannula via the femoral vein and connected the tubing to the inflow of the
trans apical ProtekDuo® cannula (figure 1). The LVAD was up titrated to a flow of 4.4 L/min at
7000rpm.
Within 24 hours after the procedure, we observed a vastly improved response to diuretics, the AKI
started to resolve and he was successfully extubated.

21. Critique Of The Defense Of Cover Songs
Critique for In Defense of Cover Songs There is a belief in today s society snowballing from the past
that a cover song is merely a copy or rip off of the original. This dilemma is discussed in an article
Don Cusic, who has taught courses in the music business industry since 1982 and is known as a
pioneer of music business education. Cusic s other accomplishments and credibility come from being
a historian of country music, a scholar and writer known worldwide, and an author of over 209 books
and 500 articles (Belmont University). The reason that cover songs are an important discussion in
today s society is because there is an increase in cover song creation and also a steady increase of
criticism of cover songs. This is due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cusic begins his paper with the effect of co writing asserting that the artist loses much more money
when they could have earned more if they had created a song themselves. He then goes on to explain
how fans and critics feel the need for a song to be legitimate and that if a singer doesn t create his or
her own song they are seen as an invalid artist. However, Cusic asserts that fans and critics do not care
for the artist s reason for creating the song, and that the audience s connection to the song is the reason
why it is even purchased or seen as real music. Cusic affirms that singers who create cover songs are
not any less legitimate compared to artists who create original music and that singers have their own
way of describing what a song means to them. Next, he brings up the fact that a new audience can
benefit a song, that history plays a major role in the belief of cover songs and that the boundary
between songwriters and singers are meant to be respected. He explains that if an original song is
covered, it receives the benefit of a new audience learning about the history of the original song. This
strengthens his assertion that, Many times a cover is a history lesson for a new, young audience who
never heard the original (174). Cusic further explains that cover songs were created throughout time
by providing many well known songs and artists from the past like Elvis Presley and

22. Brown Patch In Turfgrass Essay
Brown Patch in Turfgrass
Introduction
Brown patch, Rhizoctonia solani, is a plant disease that can have a major affect on both golf courses
and home turfgrass alike (Brown Patch, 2014). This fungal disease is most prevalent during the height
of the summer months, when heat and humidity levels are at their highest. The grass species that are
most susceptible make up the majority of cool season grasses, to include perennial ryegrass, tall
fescue, and the bentgrasses (Tredway et al, 2011). Occasionally, brown patch becomes a problem on
Kentucky bluegrasses in mid to late summer (Tredway et al, 2011).
The Pathogen The pathogen that causes the Brown patch disease is among the Rhizoctonia species,
more specifically Rhizoctonia solani, according to the American Phytopathological Society (Tredway
and Burpee, 2014). The aforementioned species are traditionally included with a group ... Show more

Turfgrass diseases are no different. One of the major cultural practices that can be modified to
effectively reduce disease severity is a balanced fertilization program. It has long been stated in
literature and professional circles that excessive N fertilization on turfgrass can dramatically increase
R. solani susceptibility. The reasoning behind this is due to the fact that N, applied at high rates and/or
at a less than optimum time of season can cause succulent turf growth. This can increase disease
incidence because turf is vigorously growing, and with higher N levels, stomata will be slower to
close (Carrow et al, 2001). Then, as conditions become favorable the fungus hyphae infiltrate the grass
plant via the stomata in the leaf blades, and because they are slower to close, the disease has a great
chance to infect the plant (Rhizoctonia Diseases of Turfgrass,

Lego.com Case Study
Lego Mindstorms
The non commercial website Lego.com has been an enormous success providing Lego with a strong
presence on the Internet. However, implementing a website capable of handling sales transactions
requires a great deal more than a non commercial site. The firm has implemented an ERP system
which may provide some technical support for the website. The details of the ERP system are
unknown at this time; however, the goal of implementing the system was to optimize the supply chain
from production to distribution, which will be a significant opportunity for the E Commerce project.
Another important consideration is incorporating the ERP system into the E Commerce transactions so

This strength separates Lego from the other 2 billion sites on the web that could sell blocks of some
type of Lego s own products.
Lego has a global supply chain already in place and includes processes of planning, production,

the differences in delivering to consumers versus delivering to retailers and other distributors.
Delivering the product on time and correctly is a main priority of the E Commerce site and can prove
to be a strength or a weakness. Currently Lego, Inc. has companies and offices in 30 countries and
covers 6 continents providing a great deal of resources needed for both the selling to consumers and
perhaps some of the infrastructure existing can support the Lego Mind storm s e commerce sites.
Many issues arise from Lego s target market being largely children. The first problem is moving from
a child wishing to buy a Lego product to a parent paying for the product. Many ethical and legal issues
must be addressed when marketing to children. One possible way of dealing with these sensitive
issues is to allow parents to customize the web site and pre pay purchases using gift cards. Two
advantages result from this strategy; the first is giving parents control over what products and
information is available to the children. For example, a

One of the most profitable industries around the world is the automobile industry, It forms a big
difference in countries economy, In early 1960 Egypt like any other developing country shifted from
agriculture country to manufacturing country started by Al Nasr automotive company, there are many
factors that may affect increase or decrease on demand over cars , will discuss few of these factors
such as political factors, economic factors, expected future prices for cars and income of consumer or
buyer, let s have an over view in the automotive industry in Egypt through the trend shown below
from 2014 till 2020. The automobile manufacturing sector is one of the sectors that have faced
continuous growth. Egyptian Automobile Manufacturers Association (EAMA) data show total vehicle
demand in the Egyptian market increased from 70,834 units in 2003 to 227,488 units in 2007; an
increase of over 200% in 5 years. Cars assembly production continues to increase and has reached
101,319 vehicles in 2007; increasing by 118% from 46,422 units in 2003. With few successes and
many failures over the past five decades, the car industry in Egypt developed as an assembly operation
rather Than manufacturing. This essay discusses the economic factors that are affecting the demand
for automobiles in Egypt. (Kara, 2015)

Policy making can be a complicated process, from identifying issues that need to be addressed right up
to the evaluation stage to ensure that policy aims have been met. When determining whether a case of
policy making has been successful or not is thus difficult to pinpoint. This paper will look into two
cases of policy making, the Strategic Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Program (SIHIP)
established in 2007, as well as Australia s immigration policy towards asylum seekers through
Operation Sovereign Borders. By comparing both cases to the policy cycle model, as put forth by
Althaus et. al, this paper will then deduce whether the aforementioned cases have been successful or
not. Although there are many ways to analyse the process of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Up until this point, the SIHIP s overall policy design is sound; key issues have been identified, more
specific challenges have been deduced and analysed, and an appropriate (albeit ambitious) proposal to
combat the root issues has been put forth. It is when the policy cycle model is followed onto the next
stage of consultation that sees a deviation from producing an effective policy. The use of external
consultants, though being a reasonable tool to aid in ensuring community needs were being met, was
found to be over exhausted, and meant that the allocated budget for the project was insufficient in
order to actually construct and repair the proposed houses. Contributing to this increase in costs was
that the community response detailed that the proposed housing was inadequate. This feedback was
accepted and therefore included in SIHIP, resulting in the cost increase from $450,000 per house to

26. The Pros And Cons Of Pedophiles
There are very few things that people agree on universally, however one of them is their attitude
toward pedophiles. No other type of person elicits the same kind of reaction as those who prey on
arguably our most vulnerable population. Pedophiles alone out of other sex offenders drive intense
fear and anger into the public, so much so that they are the reason for Megan s Law requiring sex
offenders to register as such since 1994. More recently, the enactment of an International Megan s
Law that was voted on last year requires for all sex offenders to get their status added to their
passports. The only issue with all of this is being a pedophile isn t a sex crime. Most people consider
pedophiles to be anyone who has committed a sex offense against a child and that all pedophiles will
commit this offense. In both cases that is, at best, a half truth. The DSM 5, which is a tool that outlines
the diagnostic criteria for a given disorder, defines pedophilic disorder as, a paraphilia involving
intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about prepubescent children that have either
been acted upon or which cause the person with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty. With
the latter half of this definition, we begin to open up to the idea that there are those who have sexual
interests in children who have had no form of inappropriate contact with a child, but rather just have
their daily life affected by the feelings that they are having toward

An educated person is one who s education surpasses the national average in their respected country.
An educated person has the ability and drive to succeed no matter what social and economic
background one has. Knowing the reason why being highly educated matters in life, and having a
passion to learn. Similarly, to understand what is learned during the process of being educated, take
the time to truly comprehend the facts, and the reasons behind the facts. Otherwise they might be
forgotten and if so, are you still an educated person? Consider the following methods: the banking
concept where facts are repeated to you and from that are memorized so you can repeat them back,
and the problem posing concept where ideas are introduced and everyone learns from each other
(Freire 144, 147). The ability and drive to succeed no matter what stands in your path, whether the
problem is economical, social, or cultural, overcoming obstacles is a part of life that everyone does
and each hurdle is a step closer to the end goal; the prize of being educated. Simply put, knowledge is
power, where the highly educated oversee the less educated, and the non educated have little to no
chance of being wealthy or respected (Spayde 66). According to Spayde, those unfortunate enough to
not have the opportunity for a higher education are viewed as being limited to an in the streets

30. Promiscuity In Sula
Steve Maraboli wrote, Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what
you do have power over, instead of craving control over what you don t. While perceptions towards
female sexuality have become more and more liberal over time, they still tend towards an expediently
bigoted dynamic in which women are only encouraged to be sexual to an extent. The idea of women
being self confident, even single minded, in cultivating rousing sex lives is still often looked upon as
immoral and impure. In Toni Morrisson s novel Sula, not only is female sexuality lopsidedly
categorized, it is seen as worthy for castigation. Missing from the main conceptualization is the blunt
acknowledgement that female promiscuity can be empowering. A woman can derive power from her
sexuality. By realizing what she s been gifted with, she can gain her freedom. Sexual empowerment
for her involves recognition of her sexual being, embracing that power, and exhibiting it confidently
without fear of disrepute. By embracing the body she is born into, understanding the power it wields,
and displaying total command in making choices regarding her body, she holds the power to not be
castigated for craving and loving sex. Neither is she belittled with abusive words for not keeping her
body as a holy shrine, allowing only one man entry. A sexually assured woman, conscious of her own
desires, and confident in her allure can claim sex solely on her own terms.

mention some of the changes and elements of the Quality Management Systems, financial issues, pros
and cons of being certified, and the relationship ISO 9000 has with ISO 14000.
The International Organization for Standardization was founded shortly after the end of World War II

The first set of standards was published in 1987, and the first revision appeared in 1994. And now the
latest updated version in 2000. These new standards are referred to as the ISO 9000 2000 Standards .
ISO 9000 currently includes three quality standards: ISO 9000:2000 (fundamentals and vocabulary),
ISO 9001:2000 (requirements), and ISO 9004:2000 (guidelines).
When you compare ISO 9001:1994 and ISO 9001:2000 you ll notice a lot of different changes that
have been undergone. ISO has abandoned the 20 clause structure of the old standard. Instead of 20
sections, the new standard now has 5 sections. ISO reorganized the ISO 9001 standard in order to
create a more logical structure, and in order to make it more compatible with the ISO 14001
environmental management standard. ISO 9001:2000 is more customer oriented than the old standard.
While the old standard was also oriented towards meeting customer requirements and achieving
customer satisfaction, the new standard addresses this in much greater detail. In addition, it expects
you to communicate with customers and to measure and monitor customer satisfaction. In the past,
organizations that wished to be certified were referred to as suppliers because they supplied products
and services to customers. Since many people were confused by this usage, ISO standards focus on
the organization, not the

Hassrad and Cox (2013) sought to create a model that modernizes and adapts the Burrell and Morgan
s model to unpack the meta theoretical assumptions of the paradigm not accounted for post
structuralism, and more broadly, post modernism. This section will briefly discuss each of Burrell and
Morgan s original criteria in relation to the literature on third order analysis to justify the use of this
modification. Hassard and Cox see three main approaches to organizational theorizing, structural, anti
structural and post structural. Hassard and Cox (2013) also make notable adaptations to the
understanding of paradigms by rethinking them as less insulated and static and allow for significant
ambiguity and contradiction. Finally, Hassard and Cox also modernize the existing paradigmatic
structure by updating terminology for several concepts, namely, replacing nomothetic with deductive,
idiographic with interpretive and anti positivist with constructionist, in order to offer more accessible
or contemporary terms. These dimensions remain intact in terms of their definition in the original
Burrell and Morgan model. Structural and post structural approaches to organizational theorizing can
be understood as the subjective objective dimension as discussed perviously. Hassard and Cox (2013)
argue that for the nature of social science, , post structural can be classified, paradigmatically, as:

Collins. The fiery anger that comes out of the Darcy proposal is contrasted to the mild disagreement
between Elizabeth and Collins. The language Elizabeth used in both cases show how differently she
takes the proposals. With Darcy, she holds the resentment he has towards the behavior of her family as
well as their class differences as a large problem for their potential marriage. This is not the problem
between Elizabeth and Collins. Both Collins and Darcy provide Elizabeth with wealth that would
make her comfortable in a practical way (even though one is clearly better than the other in this
manner). But the argument for Elizabeth against Mr. Collins is her heart. She doesn t respect Collins
in the way that she respects Darcy. Instead of using the word gratitude like Elizabeth does with Darcy,
she responds Accept my thanks for the compliment you are paying me. I am very sensible of the

40. Types And Types Of Journaling Essay
Out of all the investments in life we make, whether they be financial, spiritual or relationship
investments, the most important investment we can make is an investment in ourselves. One way to
commit to this investment is through daily or weekly journaling. As Hiemstra (2001) Stated,
journaling is an investment in yourself through a growing awareness of personal thoughts and feelings
(p.23). The awareness of one s thoughts and feelings is very important to monitor as one can become
stuck in a cycle of rumination. Focusing ones attention on emotional and cognitive aspects means this
rumination can be avoided by bringing acceptance to past emotions. Journaling helps this cycle of
rumination by setting realistic expectations for ourselves and by providing solutions. One of the most
beneficial styles of journaling would be journaling about future personal goals, which can have the

41. Child Labor Is A Growing World Problem
Child labor is a growing world problem, more and more laws are being made and enforced. And while
laws prohibit child labor, exceptions are made, like the number of hours a child can work and how old
you have to be to work. Kids as young as seven are working 16 hours in mines. Child labor is
significant all around the world but largely in Asia, Africa, and Latin America and in parts of Europe.
Children are used in mines because they have smaller bodies to climb in shafts and small crevices,
their small nimble hands and fingers are good for sorting minerals. Forced into mines by poverty and
debt, children will spend the rest of their lives working in hazardous environments. These hazardous
conditions are hard to control because mining often takes place in temporary, remote, small scale
locations making it difficult to regulate and monitor (Lillie). Child miners risk injury, death and face
long term health problems caused by back breaking labor, exposure to dust and chemicals and, worst
of all, poisoning. Working in these mine deprives children of their childhood, interferes with their
ability to attend regular school, and hurts them mentally, physically, and socially. Poverty is the
leading reason that children are going to work at such a young age. A child s labor contribution may
be important for the household and for food, especially if few alternative opportunities exist to earning
an income. Many children of mining or farming families are obliged to work to help

42. Essay about Exposing Pain in The Enormous Radio
Exposing Pain in The Enormous Radio
In John Cheever s short story, The Enormous Radio, Jim and Irene Westcott are presented as average,
middle class Americans with hopes and dreams just like everyone else. They are described as the kind
of people who seem to strike that satisfactory average of income, endeavor, and respectability
(Cheever 817). Jim and Irene thought they were the epitome of the perfect American family that was
free from trouble and worry. The only way that they differed from their friends and neighbors was a
deep passion for serious music. This passion, through the enormous radio, brought to their attention
the realization that they had just as many problems as the next family. Their reaction to the radio ...

Why had this become such a necessity? As she listened to her neighbors most intimate and private
discussions, Irene began to feel depressed, instead of delighted as she once had been (Giordano 57).
Jim had bought the radio to make his wife happy, but the depressing, real life stories she was hearing
everyday made her realize that they had their fair share of problems too. Listening to other couples
quarrel all day made her think about all the problems she and Jim had. Irene had deluded herself into
thinking that her life was different from those she listened to on a daily basis (Giordano 57), but she
now understood that even they had difficulties.
Jim had become fed up with Irene s obsession with the enormous radio. He did not understand why
she listened to it so intently if all it did was bring her misery. Meanwhile, Irene constantly nagged at
Jim for even an inch of reassurance that they had better lives than those on the radio. Jim fought
himself to hold in all his built up anger and frustration towards his wife and replied Of course we re
happy (Cheever 823). Jim knew that they had just as many problems as the next family. He tried to
discuss them with his wife, but as TaVeta Smith points out, she doesn t address Jim s concerns at all
(59).
Jim becomes so upset with Irene s obsession that he unleashes his anger by explaining to her why she
is so caught up in the enormous radio. He

43. Economic Impact Of Natural Disasters Essay
ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF NATURAL DISASTERS
ABSTRACT:
Disasters of both natural and technological origin have a considerable impact on communities. The
effects of disasters in India are significantly reduced by well established counter disaster arrangements
at all three levels of government. These arrangements comprise comprehensive plans of prevention,
preparedness, response and recovery and in more recent times, of mitigation. The economic effects of
disasters can be devastating and widespread. When disasters strike houses, businesses and community
infrastructure get damaged or destroyed and people s livelihoods are temporarily and sometimes
permanently disrupted. Physical damage is the most visible economic impact of disasters. Major

It is also important to recognise that communities are diverse. In some cases, disaster affected
communities recover and prosper, in others the adverse economic impact has a domino effect that
spreads throughout the community. What makes some communities recover and prosper and others
decline in the aftermath of a disaster? What are key characteristics of disaster resistant communities?
These are important questions and are critical to understanding the economic recovery process. The
principles and strategies identified later in this report provide a starting point for considering these
questions. The economic consequences of disasters can be classified in a variety of ways. No single
framework will cover and prescribe every possible impact a disaster might have. Each disaster has
unique characteristics and consequently in any attempt to classify these impacts there will always be
impacts that do not fit neatly within the classification. Nevertheless a classification framework is a
useful guide or tool we can use to tackle these issues.
Almost all impacts of disasters have an economic dimension, even if this economic effect cannot be
measured. Economic impacts are typically divided into two categories: tangible (those impacts we can
assign a dollar value to) and intangible (impacts which are not easily expressed in

44. Essay on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
What can happen to a fetus when a pregnant women drinks heavily during her pregnancy?
It can lead to permanent, irreversible and incurable effects that will bring a lifetime of pain for
both the child and the family. These permanent and unchangeable effects arise from a fetus
attaining fetal alcohol syndrome from its mother. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is a pattern of
malformations and disabilities resulting from a pregnant woman drinking heavily during her
pregnancy. FAS is unique in that effects on the children are directly linked to maternal drinking
habits. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is currently the leading cause of mental retardation in the United
States. A baby with FAS can suffer from mental retardation, central ... Show more content on

FAS is not necessarily the result of only
full blown alcoholism but rather it can result from drinking any amount of alcohol in excess of the
level to detoxify it thus placing the fetus at risk (Caleekal). A mother s nutritional status and
physical well being might also play roles of varying significance in determining whether an infant
is affected, and to what degree, by the prenatal exposure to alcohol (Berhow 364). The most
common effects seen is an increase in miscarriages. Babies can also be born at a low birth weight,
birth length, and with a small heads resulting from prenatal alcohol exposure. There are many
different factors that can produce birth defects from FAS. Agent (alcohol, crack, heroin) Dosage
(how much is used), Timing of Exposure (when is it used?), individual factors of mother and
child, genetic factors, nutritional factors, metabolic factors are what birth defects are dependent
on (Berhow 364).
FAS is characterized by three symptoms which affect different areas. The three areas
45. affected are; prenatal and/or postnatal growth retardation, Central Nervous System (CNS) and
head and facial abnormalities (Wynbrandt 208). With prenatal and postnatal growth retardation,
infants are born weighing less the average newborn and are shorter in length. The central nervous
system is composed of the brain and spinal cord. The nervous system develops in

focuses attention on the difficulties of Robyn Gilcrist the newly appointed President to efficiently
managing the company s daily operations while at the same time developing a corporate strategy.
Robyn Gilcrist has taken over as CEO a few days after the death of Olaf Gunerson, Yellowtail s
founder and former owner. Therefore, there was no proper hand over for Gilcrist.

working with Gunerson before his retirement, but death intervened. Now Robyn must learn the
business in a fast pace and keep it running without him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robyn should start by getting more understanding about the product, afterward she must wrestle with
the issue of what directional path the company should take and what changes in the company s
product market customer technology focus would improve its current market position and future
prospects. Deciding to commit the company to one path versus another pushes managers to draw some
carefully reasoned conclusions about how to try to modify the company s business makeup and the
market position it should stake out. She must consider a number of direction shaping factors where to
head and why such a direction makes a good business sense.
Looking into the case, some external considerations to start the first phase :
1. Sales situation : sales are slipping down from 10 Mio in 1973 to 8.4 Mio in 1975. Market for
outboard boat and outboard motor has been declining by almost 40% from 1973 to 1975 (recession
and raw material prices). 64% of the company product is Outboard boat. Inboard motor shows a rather
steady sales in the past two years, but the average price per unit has increased and therefore in terms
of value the inboard boat segment shows an increase trend.
2. Potential growth in the pleasure boat segment. Trailer sales is expected to pick up as the new type
customers avoid the complicated club / marina membership. Significant
