Tornadoes

What is a tornado?
A tornado is a rotating column of air that extends from a thunderstorm to the ground. Most tornadoes have wind speeds between 40-110 mph but the strongest can exceed 300 mph. Tornadoes form from thunderstorms called supercells that contain rotating updrafts. As rain drags down rotating air, a funnel cloud may form and touch down as a tornado. Tornadoes grow strongest as they receive warm air but then weaken as surrounding winds cut off the supply, causing the tornado to dissipate.
Storms!
A storm occurs when there is disturbance in the atmosphere, such as thunderstorms which bring lightning, thunder, and sometimes tornadoes or hail. Other types of storms include blizzards which bring heavy snowfall, hurricanes which form over warm ocean waters and bring strong winds and rain, and floods which can result from heavy rainfall. It is important to monitor weather warnings and take shelter indoors during storms as they can be dangerous.

Streambanks and riparian areas
Riparian areas are located between streams or rivers and dry upland areas. They help maintain water quality by trapping sediment, reducing erosion, storing nutrients, and filtering contaminants. Livestock seeking water and shade in riparian areas can lead to overgrazing, trampling, soil erosion, and declining water quality, reducing habitats for plants and fish. Some farmers are paid to protect riparian areas by keeping livestock out in order to maintain the key ecological functions of these areas.

We can estimate square roots in three ways:

- 2. What is a Storm A violent disturbance in the atmosphere with strong winds and usually rain, thunder, lightning or snow
- 3. What that really means The sky is growing dark with a strong wind and loud noises. Rain, snow, thunder and lightning are possibly soon to follow.
- 4. How Does Thunder Happen? Thunder happens after lightning, it’s caused by it. After lightning strikes it opens up a hole or a channel. Once the light is gone the air collapses causing a sound wave we know as lightning.
- 5. How does lightning happen? Lightning happens when heavy negatively charged particles sink to the bottom of the cloud. When the negative and positive particles grow large enough it releases a spark known as lightning.

- 9. How can this affect us Negatively - People getting struck by lightning - Power outages - Forest fires (Dry lightning) - Can bring heavy rain (Floods)
- 10. How we can prevent some of these We can’t exactly stop lightning and thunder from happening, but we can at least try to stop getting struck by lightning. It may sound boring and unimportant but it really is.
- 11. Random Facts - Lightning is different colours - 1/10 people die when struck by lightning - The first guy to discover lightning hung a key on a kite (Benjamin Franklin) - You can toast 100,000 pieces of toast in one lightning strike.

- Thats why you always want to kinda stay lower to the ground cuz when the negative particles sink down from the clouds and touches the closest positive particles it can reach it creates a huge spark known as lightning
- Floods happen because thunder and lightning need lots of moisture in the air, about the same amount needed in a Cumulonimbus cloud which is one of the heaver more full of rain. Humidity can be viewed as a negative side effect because
- You cannot stop thunder or lightning or floods but we can stop being struck by lightning. You coud seriosly die from being struck by lightning. If you get struck and not die you will definetly get 3rd degree burns and Lichtenberg figure which is basically your blood vessles expolding.
- When Lightning traveling through open air emits white light, but can appear in different colors depending on local atmospheric conditions. Distant lightning can appear red or orange the same way the setting sun does, due to moisture, haze, dust, etc in the lower levels of the atmosphere. Studies in the states show that 39 people die annually
