The Value Of Arts In Education
Introduction: The piece that stood out to me the most is how as a nation, we understand the value
of the arts, but at the same time, we are slowly depleting them from our schools. How can we as
educators see their benefits, but not do anything about it? I think it is important as a future teacher
to understand the number of benefits that the arts offer and the realization that we must work
harder in keeping these skills in our school. Once we implement arts completely in our classroom,
the benefits are endless in helping our students succeed in every area of their lives. This mindset
would transform our students, schools, and teaching methods to create the entire school on a path
that puts our students needs first.
The Big Picture: The important pieces in The Big Picture portion of this article was the realization
that art is a vital piece in education. I think the piece that stood out to me the most was the
percentages of what the public believed that the benefits of arts were in the classroom. As a future
educator, it shows most of my students families will also agree that learning and incorporating art
into every subject will increase the learning environment, process, and retention of my students. If a
school majority agrees that art is an important piece of learning, the entire school, classroom,
students, and teaching methods would reflect that idea. I want my students to feel ownership to
their learning and I feel that art gives them the ownership they need.

Why Is The Nuclear Bomb Justified
Have you ever thought that killing thousands of people could ever be justified? It may not seem
like it could ever be justified, but the dropping of the nuclear bombs on japan was. The
president, Harry Truman, took into account of how this would save lives, and end the war faster,
even though not many people think it s sane and humane it was the best time to do it since they
had people dying by suicide. When we dropped the bombs we prevented over one thousand
deaths, the death rate of the Japanese and the U.S. added up to way over one million. If we didn t
drop the bombs not many Americans could just keep doing it would be impossible to keep sending
people into death. President Truman decided that it would be better that japan takes more

In Passing Nella Larsen Summary
The issues between the characters race and identity is a consequence of the judgemental culture.
Clare and Irene construct their identities by passing. By keeping their black heritage a secret, they
are afforded many privileges as white women, such as health and safety from discrimination,
exclusion and racial violence.
In Passing Nella Larsen seems to suggest that identity is a hazy fiction one tells that outward
appearances and surface events only partly confirm. (Thaggert, 2005)
Clare implies that she thinks her lifestyle is superior to those women that always remain black.
Her obsession with passing has formed her identity and became so normal to her, Clare had a trick
of sliding down ivory lids over astonishing black eyes and then lifting them suddenly and turning on
a caressing smile (Larsen, p.83). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are examples in the text that clearly show how identity is never known, Never, when she
was alone, had they even remotely seemed to suspect that she was a negro (Larsen, p.10). Irene
has more pride for her black heritage yet remains paranoid at the way society may treat her
because of it. Therefore, her racial identity remains fluid as she blends in like any other white
woman who has tea in a white only section. She is very wary of her race being detected, which is
demonstrated early in the text, Did that woman, could that woman, somehow know that here
before her very eyes on the roof of the Drayton Sat a negro? (Larsen, p.8). This may suggest that
she is too fragile with passing. She knows her black identity and this worries her. She knows what
society would think of her if they knew. Passing for white meant being treated with respect, rather
than disdain and so being found out would ruin this life for her. Race is what limits Irene, She was
caught between two allegiances, different, yet the same. Herself. Her race. Race!. The thing that

The Monster of Circumstance Essay
The Monster of Circumstance
Imagine two sisters living in the same household both have grown up with the same parents, in the
same place, and under the same conditions. Unfortunately for the sisters, their family has developed
a pattern: The issues of the previous generation have been passed down with the next generation,
creating a legacy of substance abuse, an unstable home environment, suicide, and mental illness. In
this setting, the sisters must react to the troubles they witness around them daily, for their parents
and other family are unable to shield the girls from the fallout of their emotional instability. One of
the sisters is able to escape the pattern of her ancestors and thrives despite the challenges she faces

Frankenstein s monster begins his life full of hope, displaying care for other people and a desire
for knowledge despite the abandonment and confusion he feels. Somewhere along the road of his
life, however, the creature s pain and loneliness damage his internal being with violent results. At
what point did the dark forces of his outside world become too much to endure? Could he have
ignored his reality and continued to live in hope of a better time? Furthermore, how can we apply
the creature s struggle to humanity?
Circumstances or events in a person s life can affect him or her in a multitude of ways and at a
multitude of times. At the beginning of the book, Frankenstein s monster is alone and confused,
and yet he feels nothing but a desire to live fully and with a good heart. The creature s
explanation is simple: As yet I looked upon crime as a distant evil; benevolence and generosity
were ever present before me, inciting within me a desire to become an actor in the busy scene
where so many admirable qualities are called forth and displayed (130). The creature is referring
to his time watching the cottagers, whom he observed and admired from afar for a time at the
beginning of his life. He sees only the good in these people and thus looks on the world and his
life from a positive point of view. He claims that crime was but a distant

Foreshadowing In The Chocolate War
The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier is a book that provides a sneak peek behind the scenes at
the harmony before the havoc. The book provides a look at how one person fights through the
battle of finding oneself, trying to fix a mistake they made, and how it affects those around
them. The Chocolate War begins with the line They murdered him. An opening that, at first lead to
confusion, then became an enormous point of foreshadowing in the story. The author begins by
creating a sensory image of our characters playing football, getting injured, and leading the reader
to believe that this is what the story would be about. The book really is leading the reader into a
complex cast of characters ranging from a money hungry headmaster to a student... Show more

The Vigils run things by keeping the freshman portion of the student body living in fear and
assigning difficult tasks that could potentially get those students in trouble. The Vigils consist
of Archie Costello the groups assigner and for some odd reason it seems as though everyone at
Trinity obeys Archie s word like it s law. Then sits Carter, Trinity s star football player, the group
s president and Archie s right hand man. At the bottom of the Vigils food chain is Obie the
errand boy, a student who does every possible thing to stay in the Vigils good graces such as
handing out Archie s assignments. At this point it seems as though the teachers have no chance at
getting their school back, until the persistent headmaster Brother Leon steps in to ask Archie and
the Vigils for help selling the excessively ordered 20,000 boxes of chocolate at $2 a box. That s
when The Chocolate War begins. Any time Archie hands out an assignment he has to draw from a
black box with marbles in it, a box he s never lost against. If Archie draws a black marble he has to
carry out the assignment, if he draws a white marble the assignment stands. Jerry Renault just so

Donovan Hill s Queensland State Library

architectural style and its involvement with the community by using diagrams and discussion.
Donovan Hill is a Brisbane based firm established in 1992. Their style highlights the value in
creating smaller individual experiences throughout the spatial programming whilst also not being
governed by climate but using it to their advantage. Donovan Hill is well known for their design
of the outdoor room in C House and this design is precedent for spaces in the QueenslandState

Funded by the Queensland State Government with a budget of 76 million dollars the library was
designed in conjunction with Peddle Thorp, in 2007 it won five RAIA awards; the Sir Zelman

(national), the FDG Stanley award for Public Buildings(QLD), Regional Building of the

site 10,000sqm, this space was completely redesigned and then an additional 12,000sqm was added
to the structure. The briefing and design process spanned a large and complex client group
incorporating community and indigenous consultation. Donovan Hill needed to design a structure
with a multitude of uses, this culminating in over 1000 individual spaces throughout the building.
Aside from the main use of storing the library s permanent collection, Donovan Hill had to create

Expanding Our Horizons – Animal Welfare Concerns
After a state of the art breakthrough at a scientific laboratory, several tested animals became
capable of human intellectual capabilities and emotions. During an unseen event, they escape the
facility, no longer remaining hostage as test experiments. Ten years pass and now the roles have
reversed. These super hybrid animals are now the top of the food chain and humans are their
pawns. In a reversal of roles, zoos now hold humans in depicted natural environments and local
grocery and department stores are farms where forced humans eat, breed, and slaughter for animal
consumption. This change of events became due to years of neglected rights and abuse to the
animals.

The lack of research and public knowledge greatly hindered considerations for animal welfare
including fair and ethical treatment. In order for us as humans to understand animals more
thoroughly, more research studies are required in order to examine the similarities of animal and
human relations. We can further relate with animals if we understand they too have emotions
similar to ours and not outcast them due to their species classification. Even as studies and
research conducted prove great and remarkable results, the public should be aware of the
information generated. With the public aware of such studies, we can finally relate to animals and
take in their considerations of how they feel in certain situations. The implications of this are vast
ranging from common household pets, livestock, to even captive animals within a zoo. Learning
these studies and making this knowledge available to the public could provide helpful insight as
what to do in treating situations such as coming across a bear in the wild.
Research roles of animals have been very beneficial to the human race. Within case studies of
animals, such items as vaccinations, cardiovascular bypass surgery, and treatments for cancer have
become possible (Medina, 2008). It is important to understand the welfare for animals and the
research involved within the process is

An Analysis Of Maya Angelou And Alice Walker
Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two well known contemporary African American writers.
Although both women are from different generations they share some of the same qualities and
experiences. Both women used their past experiences of tragedy and hardship as a stepping stool
for growth by turning that pain into what now are famous stories and poems. For most writers,
majority of their work stem from their own experiences, and for both Alice and Maya a great deal
of their works regarded the dilemmas many African Americanpeople faced during that time such as
prejudice and discrimination.
They were each so passionate about equal rights for colored people that they got involved with the
civil rights movement. Maya Angelou participated in the movement in the 1960s by touring the
country with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as he prepared for the Poor People s Campaign . Alice
Walker participated by writing a novel in 1976 called Meridian, which is known as the meditation
on the modern civil rights movement. Both women also had strong views about equality for
African American women, and soon became known as Feminist. They used their platform as
writers to express the challenges many black women faced, as well as give women like them a
voice by promoting gender equality.
Although Maya Angelou and Alice Walker share these similarities, there are still unique facts that
separate these writers apart. Marguerite Annie Johnson, also known as Maya Angelou, was born on

Benefits Of Pledging To A Sorority Or Fraternity
Most people when they think of college they think of majors, classes, and getting to meet new
people but others look forward to pledging to a sorority or fraternity. Pledging to a sorority or
fraternity means making a life long commitment with people who then become your said brothers
and said sisters, but with pledging comes hazing. Hazing is humiliating and, in most cases,
dangerous initiation rituals, but it is a typical thing that happens when someone pledges. Although
hazing is a tradition and has always been a part of pledging, it shouldn t be part of the process due
to multiple cases of death and the overall attitude towards it.
Hazing in fraternities and sororities has become a tradition in the United States culture for decades

The Epistemic Closure Principle By Edmund Gettier
Alexander Jerde Phil 312 10/20/2014
The Epistemic Closure Principle The Epistemic closure principle explains that knowledge can be
gained by the logically implied inferences between a predicate, based on past experience, and a
conclusion. By definition epistemic closure purports that we are justified in believing that our
logical inferences are true. Therefore, we can conclude that our past experience (predicate) is a
reason to believe a proposition. This principle has been used as the basis of various forms of
skeptical arguments against the traditional analysis and inductive/deductive reasoning. Such an
example was presented by Edmund Gettier, whose arguments question if we are justified in
believing our beliefs as knowledge. Also, Hume questioned if we can really trust inductive
/deductive reasoning. In the following I will argue that even though, Gettier s arguments hold some
truth, we are still caused to conclude that the epistemic closure is a logical necessity and true. The
epistemic closure principle states that knowledge can be gained by acceptance of predicates
logically implied relationship with their conclusions. Epistemic closure entails that, deductive and
logical reasoning are sound principles of reaching knowledge. Also that, a conclusion (proposition)
can be known then by understanding that a necessary logical or deductive inference between a
predicate and a conclusion exist. Epistemic closure also entails that we are justified

Strategic Rationale For The Acquisition Of Myer Holdings...
1 Strategic rationale for the acquisition of Myer Holdings Limited 1.1Growth motive The main
reason for this Mergers Acquisitions(M A) activity is the growing scale of Premier Investments
Limited (Premier). The target for acquisition is Myer Holdings Limited(Myer). Myer is an
important customer for Premier with significant common interest. And the competitor, Woolworths
South Africa(Woolworths) has already achieved the David Jones acquisition. Therefore, Premier
choose Myer as the target for acquisition. 1.1.1Growing scale and Geographic the acquisition of
Myer will greatly help Premier expand its retails into some new geographic regions and acquire
more capabilities faster with lower risk than developing them internally. M A activity does help
Premier get benefits on location from industry consolidation and acquire the control over supplier.
1.1.2 Competitive position For both Myer and Premier, the M A is an appropriate way to satisfy the
higher return for their shareholders and enhance their economic strength. In addition, Premier will
enhance its rate of innovation through acquiring new technology and intellectual property. Also,
Premier can diversify the company s products into some new market segments and attract new
customers and partners. Also, this M A activity can improve the market competitiveness of Premier
against other strong competitors in Australian market and such as Woolworths. 1.2Synergy The

Introduction of Indirect Taxing on Energy Drinks in France
This article discusses how France introduced an indirect tax on energy drinks at €1 per liter. The
tax was imposed to tackle alcohol consumption among France s young population and energy drinks
consumption due to its high levels of caffeine and sugar.
A form of government intervention, an indirect tax, a tax placed on consumption that is considered
indirect since households only pay then when they buy a good, affects the energy drinks market
outcomes.
Pertaining to the diagram above, previous to government intervention, the energy drinks market
was allocated purely by the forces of demand and supply1 with market equilibrium at PE
(original price) and QE (original quantity). After a tax of €1 per liter was imposed, the
equilibrium quantity of energy drinks produced and consumed decreased to Qtax, as the supply
curve shifted upwards to Stax . Furthermore, the price paid by consumers increased to Pc from
PE and price received by the energy drinks companies decreased to Pp from PE. In addition,
consumer expenditure on energy drinks decreased as well. Due to indirect tax, this changed from
(d+e+f+g+h) to (b+d+f+g) since consumers are purchasing less of the good as the price increased.
The company s revenue also decreased significantly from (d+e+f+g+h) to (f+g), as the quantity of
output decreased. However, the government received tax revenue of (b+d), increasing its budget.
Indirect tax on energy drinks ultimately results in underallocation of resources. Too little of

Informal Sector Essay
Since the informal sector is believed to make a great contribution to an economy, there are a
number of research papers which have been done in this sector. Some research has been done in
relation to small business participation in the informal sector. A prime example is from Trinidad
and Tobago, considered as an emerging economy, whereby people have the perception of avoiding
tax while performing their business and is the reason why people engage in the informal sector. The
focus is on socioeconomic, demographic, and attitudinal characteristics that influence people to run
their small business (Sookran Watson, 2008).
Moreover, Sookram Watson (2008) in their research on Small business participation in the informal
sector of an emerging economy explain that the word informal sector refers to the production of
goods and services for market orientation, which is not captured in the estimation of a country s
GDP whether these activities are legal or illegal. The contribution of the informal sector to the
national economy in the third world economies ranges from 20 to 70 %. It has been commonly
thought that the informal sector is the sector linked with the poor and marginalized. However, in
reality this sector attracts many people regardless of their social status and educational background.
Thus, clearly policy makers need to look at this sector as it offers great economic advantages to
both poor people and the country.

Imagery In Anne Bradstreet s The Author To Her Book
One point or another in a person s life, he or she wonders what it would be like if an inanimate
object was alive. Anne Bradstreet does just this in her poem The Author to Her Book. She
brilliantly takes the fears and worries of publishing a book into treating it as if it was her own
child and, in many respects, that is what a book is to its author. There are many elements used to
give the reader the sense what the author sees the book as through metaphors, complete imagery to
visualize the scene, and voice to let the reader know just how difficult it is as an author but not just
an author, a female author. To emphasize, being an author is very tough, being a female author can
be even tougher in an era where wealthy male writers and critics... Show more content on

Bradstreet successfully aids readers with this with the voice she gives the Author in this poem.
Revisiting all the metaphors and visuals, it s easy to at least see that this is a motherly like
person who regrets the fact she must boot what she feels is a somewhat messy, child out the
door. It s a voice filled, once again, with worry, regret, a motherly figure hoping her child will
find its way in the world. If one wonders why somebody would have so much worry for the flaws
of their creation, it is important to note two factors. Right out the gate the reader knows this
author is poor, so she needs money. This is revealed when she says, And for thy Mother, she alas
is poor, (Line 23). Seventeenth century is not like today where poor means the government will
at least help to an extent, so the person isn t out of luck. There were efforts in the seventeenth
century to help the poor but for the most part, that person was kind of out of luck. The second
thing is just being an author in this time. In every respect, line 23 right here draws conclusion to
the voice of this poem, especially if the reader hasn t read it already. The other part of the voice
that is given out in this piece of work is this tone caring and fear mixed together. Leading off is the
fear factor which the Author has every right to be since

Death Penalty Is A Scary Thought
Death is a scary thought. Capital punishment, or death penalty, as we all know is the execution of
mass murderers. It is a controversial issue, but is it necessary? Capital punishment all started when
the colonists brought it to America from England (Source 5). At that time it was the normal thing,
and they mainly executed people by firing squad or hangings. In 1972 the supreme ruled that death
penalty violated guarantees of due process, equal protection and the prohibition of cruel punishment
(source3). Although the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional, each state that felt it was
necessary mad new legislation reintroducing capital punishment(Source 3). All of this happening
in the 1970 s and 80 s, and it is still in play today. This just shows that the death penalty can live
through a lot and will always be around. No matter how many people want it gone each and every
state has their own law and each would have to repeal them. The death penalty seems like a
ludicrous thing to do, but it is a necessary punishment for some.
Death penalty is not what people think. It rarely happens in fact only 1359 executions have been
carried out since 1977. There are five main types of executions that have been used since then.
These are: lethal injection, electrocutions, lethal gases, hangings, and firing squads. Most support
lethal injection as their main execution method. With 1184 it is the main death sentence method.
The next largest is electrocutions with 158 deaths. These

A Rose for Emily 17
A Rose for Emily
A Rose for Emily is a story that deals with a women s sentimental illness caused by isolation.
Emily Grierson looses her moral compass, and her trace of reality, her inability to be loved, her
desire to be considered as someone important, was never accomplished. The author shows plans of
development; using characterization, symbolism, and setting. This is a very symbolic and animatic
story. William Faulknerpoints out his views of empathy towards Emily in the story when he
illustrates that Emily had an emotional abusive upbringing with her father. In addition, we see the
historical fiction and setting which reflects the racist times that was given in the past. A Rose of
Emily is also a symbol of a gothic, and horror ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emily s house symbolizes her state of mind, it was once nice, but then turns into the town most
stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the gasoline pumps an eyesore
among eyesores (140) The breakage and liberation of her freedom held much imagery through her
hair cut. The poison represented revenge against Homer. The story shows archetypes of her
emotional state of denial for example, she told them that her father was not dead (143) . She
denies her father s death, when clearly doctors and ministers were trying to persuade her to that she
needed to dispose of his body. This is a great symbolism of her emotional attachment to her father,
and how it affected her state of mind.
The empathy and sorrow sets the atmosphere of Emily s fallen monument, her emotional breakage
into sadness. The setting of 1894 gives the historical fiction and the enveloping action of the racist
times in America, No Negro woman should appear on the streets without an apron (140) At this
period America still had a racial mind set, and where the rich were treated differently than the
poor. We see the atmosphere of her once upon a time pretty house, described as squarish frame
house that had once been white, decorated with cupolas and spices and scrolled balconies in the
heavily lightsome style of the seventies (140). In addition, this quote also demonstrates local color
fiction of the rural areas in southern America, and Faulkner s regionalism in these

Descriptive Essay On New York City
New York City. One of the greatest states. And full of tourist! Whenever tourists come to New
York City, there is a checklist of place to see and visit. There is the Statue of Liberty, the Empire
State building, Central Park, and, of course, Time Square. Time Square is the center of
everything touristy. It is full of shopping, food, lights, and Broadway plays. Almost anyone who
comes to visits always goes there. Take it from a girl who use to be a tourist herself. Whenever I
was visiting New York City, my family and I would never miss Time Square. We would always
make our way there and especially at night when the lights are shining. Time Square really is the

as the center of tourism. It has a whole history behind it and how it became the attraction it became!
Time Square, the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue, wasn t originally called Times
Square. It was actually called Longacre Square in the 19th century. It was named after London s
carriage district (New York Times). Yes, Times Square used to be a horse and buggy
neighborhood. Just imagine Times Square full of horses. It was named Longacre square because
it was named after Long acre in London. Long acre was a horse coach industry that did business
with the people in New York (New York Public Library). But eventually, with the opening of
businesses, subways, and Broadway shows made it hard so

After 6 months of flying, I was ready for the check ride. I ve been ready since before Christmas,
having completed my training on the 23rd. I scheduled my check ride on the 28th. That day was
quite interesting. I went to the flight school to check everything over with Josh and make sure I
was ready. Then we called the examiner to schedule the check ride. It was about 5pm, and Josh
made the call, which was very fortunate for me as it interrupted the examiner s dinner. He said to
have me to call him later and we would get things squared away.
I talked through the paperwork and got a few pointers from some people at the flight school. I got a

I was planning the flight to Murfreesboro, KMBT. It was an easy enough flight to plan
considering I had already done a flight out that way. I even managed to include a little VOR
navigation since the Hinch Mountain VOR is along the way. Even though it has been out of
service a lot, I felt it couldn t hurt to include it. I did all the requisite calculations since the
examiner had given me mock weather. I also planned on waiting until the night before to check the
real weather and do real calculations.
In the mean time, I did the paperwork and hammered at the little oral exam prep book I had
purchased. By Wednesday, I had filled out the IACRA paper work about four times; it is a good
idea in theory, but leaves a little to be desired in practice. After ironing out all the details, I was
ready to go. Unfortunately, I hadn t considered that the flight school would close on New Years
Day which led to a bit of a shock when I got the email about the closure. I immediately called to
make sure I was still good to go. As it turns out, the examiner has a key so it wasn t a problem
(though it almost became one, more on this later).
I studied like crazy for the days running up to the check ride. I read everything I could find about
check rides on the internet. I studied every little scrap of paper from my training. I carried all that
stuff with me everywhere I went. It was pretty easy to manage with the flight bag I have, but

Women In A Room Of One s Own By Virginia Woolf
All throughout time men have been seen as superior to women, creating this long lasting gender
barrier. In the 20th century, women were seen as significantly lower than men. In two passages,
from Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own , it depicts the difference between the men s and
women s dining experience which allows the reader to imagine the genderbias. Woolf s rhetorical
choices of imagery and symbolism in both passages creates the differential between men and
women in society.
In the passages from A Room of One s Own, Woolf, through imagery, creates two different social
settings. In the first passage, she has decorative syntax to create images of the whitest cream and

A Modern State And Public Water Systems
A modern state is a set of organisations and institutions related to the function of the government;
its role is to provide order, policy, revenue, internal and external representation, and services.1
When the state fails to govern the commons, that is, the land or resources affecting the whole
community, private companies take over. Within the past several decades privatization of the
freshwater sources and public water systems is widespread worldwide. Yet, private companies
provide water guided by the principle of the financial gain and not based on the equal distribution
paradigm, and such approach makes poverty stricken suffer the most, while the wealthy remain
intact. In California, the region of the world having the seventh largest world s economy,2
billionaires hoard water in the water banks that have been quietly gifted to them by the
government. 3 These water bank systems allow to accumulate water in the underground
reservoirs for water bank holders needs or for purpose of leasing.4 One such system, Kern Water
Bank, a thirty square miles of marshland filled with flocks of birds,5, is used to water
pomegranate trees, a key ingredient in production of the fruit drink by POM Wonderful, a company
owned by the billionaires Stewart and Lynda Resnick.6 Ironically, Kern Water Bank Authority,
technically a public agency, is subsidized by the Paramount Farming Company, a company with
world s largest pistachio and almond production, which is also owned by the Resnicks.

Morals In City Of Lost Souls By Cassandra Clare
The book, City of Lost Souls written by Cassandra Clare, is about a girl named Clary, who is
half angel half human. Clary needs to save her lover Jace who has been brainwashed by her evil
brother Sebastian. Clary must stop Sebastian from summoning an army of demons and starting a
war between good and evil. When I read this novel, I felt envious. I felt this because the
ShadowHunters had so many supernatural abilities compared to humans. For example when we
learn that ShadowHunters are half human half Angel which means that they have the ability to
draw runes etc. Runes are drawings that give them certain powers, for example becoming
stronger, becoming invisible and healing etc. This would be awesome if I had the ability to
become invisible or have supernatural strength so that day to day routines would become easier. If
i had these powers I would use them to help people in distress, like a modern superman.... Show

The author seemed to be suggesting that power hungry individuals will do anything to gain their
goals without caring about collateral damage. We see this in the text when Sebastian forces the
Iron sisters to make the Infernal cup. The infernal cup is the opposite to the mortal cup and is
made with blood from a powerful demon named Lilith. The infernal cup turns Shadowhunters
into Dark Shadowhunter and replaces their Angel blood with demon blood, making them evil.
This proves that people hungry for power will do anything and use anybody to get more power.
People that hunger for power want power because they feel like they have to be in control. An
example of somebody who is power hungry is Kim Jong Un. I believe that this kind of behaviour
is not acceptable in today s society and should not be tolerated, because people need to be working

Great Del Close Influence On Improvisational Theatre
There are five simple rules to improv, follow these rules and more than just the art changes, your
life changes. Improvisational comedy has been around far longer than most people suspect, it
can be traced back to the days of Commedia Dell Arte. This style of theatre was popular
throughout Europe for almost 200 years starting in the mid 1500s. Performers would travel
building makeshift stages and create dialog and plot lines on the spot. Later, Keith Johnstone and
Viola Spolin would re invent the art into what we see today on shows such as Who s Line is it
Anyway and Wild and Out . Improvisational comedyis more than a tool to give people laughter, it

The media fixates on comedy controversies where comedy has been deemed to be problematic or

Adam Eve Lost in Paradise
Paradise Lost by John Milton: Discuss the relationship between Adam and Eve, as portrayed in
Book 9 of Paradise Lost. How does Milton s portrayal compare to or differ from how Adam and
Eve are typically portrayed, described, or understood?
Thoughts of Eve conjure images of a meek woman who is submissive and created to serve her
husband. Adam is thought of as a strong, beautiful man created in the likeness of God. He is the
ruler of land and sea and leader of all mankind. Their relationship is thought of as idyllic and
unified, even throughout and after their fall. However, Milton casts a different light on their
relationship and personal traits in Book 9 of Paradise Lost.

Therefore, his love for her leads him to eat the fruit because if she is to die then he chooses to die
with her because as he says in line 959 to lose thee were to lose myself (2111).
Now that they both have sinned, the relationship becomes one of contention, contrary to the
traditional image. Sexually it is lustful and depraved lacking the love and intimacy they once
shared. Adam is no longer mild towards Eve, but accusatory and blaming even speaking harshly
too her which is opposite of how he treated her before the apple. She in turn retaliates against him
and tries to blame him for not being stronger. She even accuses of him of not being able to
withstand the temptation if it had been him. Sadly, what becomes of their relationship is a blame
game that is fruitless and controlled by pride with neither taking responsibility for their actions
(2116).
In the end of this book, Milton inserts an interesting point about the male/female relationship that
easily could be overlooked. He switches from Adam making a point about Eve, to generalizing
all women of which Eve is the representative. Adam talks of Eve s confidence and perfection and
how much he admired her, but realizes that is where he went wrong calling it his crime (2116).
Then he makes the shift towards women, which is craftily done by Milton, almost like a
forewarning to men to beware of the power of women in the following:
Thus it shall befall
Him who to

Upon my investigation of various media transmissions that may be used between the labs and

advantages and disadvantages and if they would be suitable for the universities and labs.
Twisted pair:
Most commonly used for PCs on a Local Area Network, it has advantages of being cheap to install
and it is easy to terminate however its disadvantages are that it is limited in distances (100m) but
enough distance to connect the computers in the labs. Another disadvantage is that it suffers from
interferences. It also has not got a great speed of bandwidth but sufficient enough to connect lab
computers. The twisting of the pair is used to reduce interference ... Show more content on

Benefits:
If a link fails, only that link is effected
Ideal for small physical regions i.e. university campus
Can add or remove workstations from each star network
Less expensive than mesh as each device only needs one link and I/O port
Easy to install and configure
Limitations:
In a tree network, a failure to one cable will isolate the workstation that links to the switch of the
STAR, but only that workstation will be down. All other workstations will function normally,
except when trying to communicate with the workstation that is down from the tree network.
If the central system goes down, the entire network that relies on it will suffer in performance or
even complete failure.

The Political Background Of Hobby
Well first off, I d like to say that having never really been all that interested in politics, analyzing
the life of a politician wasn t exactly something I felt too enthusiastic to delve into. Having said
all that, my intrigue in understanding the political background of Hobby picked up right from
page #1 in the book. Being a first generation American in my family with direct roots to the small
fairly new nation of Bangladesh and being a New York native myself, I ve never really thought
of how much a connection one such as Hobby must have with a state or a land to truly become
immersed in its realm of politics. Dating back to the Civil War, Hobby s ancestors both provided
service to the Texan republic from Major Alfred Marmaduke Hobby of the Eighth Texas
Confederate Infantry Regiment to Captain of Company D Edwin E. Hobby. The Marmaduke s
have made a great impact on Texas ever since, with Major Marmaduke rejecting Union Lt.
Kittredge s demand to inspect government buildings as well as retaliating against the Union ship
USS Arthur itself through open fire and Edwin Hobby going onto becoming a district judge within
the Livingston and Polk counties respectively. Bill Hobby s very own father; Will Hobby went
from being the president of the Houston Post to Lieutenant Governor of Texas.
Another thing I noticed was how far a single implementation of a law or an amendment can so
drastically change the political culture even if it takes a few generations to sink in. On pages

The City Of The Aztec Empire
When thinking of ancient, urban centers many think of ancient capitals such as Rome, Athens, or
Cairo. However, across the Atlantic Ocean in Central and South America, there were a number of
growing urban centers being built by the Aztec, Mayan, and Incan civilizations. An example of a
Central American urban center is Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan was the capital of the ancient Aztec
capital which is located in present day Mexico City, Mexico. The development of this ancient city
was dependent on three important factors: favorable ecology, advancing technology, and social
organization. With these three preconditions, the growth of Tenochtitlan as a major urban center
and as the capital of the Aztec s civilization was able to flourish.
Similarly to modern day real estate, location played a detrimental role in determining whether or
not an urban center could truly develop and flourish. A location with favorable ecology allows for
resources such as agriculture to be produced near or within the city. However, agriculture is not the
only element of ecology that allows for a city to develop. Other ecological elements such as rivers,
lakes, elevation, mineral resource, and building materials are important in determining whether or
not a location has favorable ecology (28). Tenochtitlan is often compared to Europe s Venice due to
its structure and location within the Valley of Mexico. The landscape of the Valley of Mexico
consisted of multiple lakes and resembled a water filled

William Paley s Argument For The Existence Of God
A design argument is more commonly know as a Teleological one, which is an argument for the
existence of a creator or god based on perceived evidence of deliberate design in the natural or
physical world .The argument has been discussed all the way back to the time of Socrates and
Plato. In my essay I will be evaluating one argument put forward by a famous philosopher, in this
case William Paley, an English clergyman born in 1743, in which he tries to show similarities in the
design of nature and the design of man made artefacts.
William Paley s Theological argument for the existence of God raises quite a few questions from
the offset of Paley s book Natural Theology. The first piece of evidence that he uses to argue his
point is his analogy of him stumbling upon a stone in a field and wondering how it came to be
there , Paley states that he could argue that it would be acceptable to believe that the stone had
stayed there forever due to the fact he has no prior knowledge of how it came to be there. Paley

Protests In The NFL Protests
For the past year, several NFL players have decided to take a knee during the national anthem. This
all started last year when Colin Kaepernick, Quarterback of San Francisco 49ers, sat during the
national anthem. He claimed that he did this because of the oppression of African Americans in the
country. Various other players from different teams joined Kaepernick, together with his protest
.
Now, this protest has gotten larger, at week 3 of the NFL games there were more than 130
players and even an anthem singer were protesting. President Donald Trump has gotten involved in
these protests by going against the players. Trump has stated that these players need to be fired, as

At the same time, WeChat also reflects one of the most common forms of communication
interpersonal communication. Communication theory (Denis McQuai,2005) holds that, the biggest
characteristic of interpersonal communication is two way communication, the flow of information
between the promulgator and the receiver is a two way interaction At the same time, the roles of
sending and receiving are changing, there is no clear boundaries. This feature has been a clear and

Atherosclerosis Research Papers
Brief Introduction (max 200 words)
Although it was believed for a long time that second hand smoke only affects smokers, since the
early 1980s it has been known that non smoking family members of smokers have twice the risk of
experiencing heart attacks than those in non smoking households. Consequently, people living and
working in environments that contain second hand smoke suffer coronary heart diseases (CHD)
due to the toxic substances of tobacco smoke.
Key concepts (max 500 words)
Second hand smoke (SHS) consists of smoke from the burning end of a cigarette and the smoke
breathed out by smokers. SHS contains more than 7,000 chemicals and more than 200 of these are
known poisons, such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide, and methyl isocyanate. ... Show more

Due to the plaque, arteries become narrower, slowly blocking the blood flow and causing
increased risks of CHD. When the artery narrows and blood flow is reduced, the oxygen supply
is decreased. Most of the time a blood clot forms and blocks the artery, thus stopping the blood
flow. If the oxygen supply to the heart is reduced, a heart attack can occur. If the oxygen supply to
the brain is cut off, a stroke can occur. Therefore SHS accelerates atherosclerosis in the arteries and
aorta and the toxic substances in the smoke that builds up in the arteries, results in increased risks
of getting cardiovascular diseases.
When someone smokes indoors, the smoke cannot be kept away by opening a window or using a
fan. In fact, research shows that toxins from smoke remain in a person s hair and clothes and the
surrounding environment. These toxins, are hazardous to infants and children.
The only way to avoid the risks of smoke is to avoid places where smoking occurs. That can be
done by making sure family, friends, and visitors never smoke inside your house or vehicle, thus
helping to keep the house smoke free by. Choose to eat in restaurants that are smoke free as non
smoking sections do not provide protection from secondhand

Classics Should Be Taught In Australia Essay
There is no hiding the fact, classics can be a challenge to read: however, does that mean we should

Waltzing Matilda . For those that do recognize the song would most likely only be able to recite
the chores, the remaining verses will be a endless monotone mumble of confusion. Furthermore, not
all of Australia s classics are being lost as and enhanced number of children recognize dreamtime

Fetus In The Womb Research Paper
Pregnancy
The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple
pies were made in the interiors of stars. We are made of starstuff. This quote from Carl Sagan
explains the complexity of the miracle of life. According to the World Health Organization,
pregnancy is the nine months or so for which a woman carries a developing embryo and fetus in her

The bones are now fully developed but are soft and flexible, to help aide in the process of birth.
The fetus begins storing iron, calcium, and phosphorus, which will be used to solidify the bones
once it is out of the womb. The nails begin to form, and by the eighth month, they will reach the
ends of the fingertips. The fetus is considered full term when it reaches the eighth month, or about
weeks thirty eight and forty. The skin begins to develop a more polished look, giving the fetus

  • 2. The Value Of Arts In Education Introduction: The piece that stood out to me the most is how as a nation, we understand the value of the arts, but at the same time, we are slowly depleting them from our schools. How can we as educators see their benefits, but not do anything about it? I think it is important as a future teacher to understand the number of benefits that the arts offer and the realization that we must work harder in keeping these skills in our school. Once we implement arts completely in our classroom, the benefits are endless in helping our students succeed in every area of their lives. This mindset would transform our students, schools, and teaching methods to create the entire school on a path that puts our students needs first. The Big Picture: The important pieces in The Big Picture portion of this article was the realization that art is a vital piece in education. I think the piece that stood out to me the most was the percentages of what the public believed that the benefits of arts were in the classroom. As a future educator, it shows most of my students families will also agree that learning and incorporating art into every subject will increase the learning environment, process, and retention of my students. If a school majority agrees that art is an important piece of learning, the entire school, classroom, students, and teaching methods would reflect that idea. I want my students to feel ownership to their learning and I feel that art gives them the ownership they need. NCLB ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It may not seem like it could ever be justified, but the dropping of the nuclear bombs on japan was. The president, Harry Truman, took into account of how this would save lives, and end the war faster, even though not many people think it s sane and humane it was the best time to do it since they had people dying by suicide. When we dropped the bombs we prevented over one thousand deaths, the death rate of the Japanese and the U.S. added up to way over one million. • 5. In Passing Nella Larsen Summary The issues between the characters race and identity is a consequence of the judgemental culture. Clare and Irene construct their identities by passing. By keeping their black heritage a secret, they are afforded many privileges as white women, such as health and safety from discrimination, exclusion and racial violence. In Passing Nella Larsen seems to suggest that identity is a hazy fiction one tells that outward appearances and surface events only partly confirm. (Thaggert, 2005) Clare implies that she thinks her lifestyle is superior to those women that always remain black. Her obsession with passing has formed her identity and became so normal to her, Clare had a trick of sliding down ivory lids over astonishing black eyes and then lifting them suddenly and turning on a caressing smile (Larsen, p.83). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are examples in the text that clearly show how identity is never known, Never, when she was alone, had they even remotely seemed to suspect that she was a negro (Larsen, p.10). Irene has more pride for her black heritage yet remains paranoid at the way society may treat her because of it. Therefore, her racial identity remains fluid as she blends in like any other white woman who has tea in a white only section. She is very wary of her race being detected, which is demonstrated early in the text, Did that woman, could that woman, somehow know that here before her very eyes on the roof of the Drayton Sat a negro? (Larsen, p.8). This may suggest that she is too fragile with passing. She knows her black identity and this worries her. She knows what society would think of her if they knew. Passing for white meant being treated with respect, rather than disdain and so being found out would ruin this life for her. Race is what limits Irene, She was caught between two allegiances, different, yet the same. Herself. Her race. Race!. The thing that bound and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Monster of Circumstance Essay The Monster of Circumstance Imagine two sisters living in the same household both have grown up with the same parents, in the same place, and under the same conditions. Even as studies and research conducted prove great and remarkable results, the public should be aware of the information generated. With the public aware of such studies, we can finally relate to animals and take in their considerations of how they feel in certain situations. • 10. An Analysis Of Maya Angelou And Alice Walker Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two well known contemporary African American writers. Although both women are from different generations they share some of the same qualities and experiences. Both women used their past experiences of tragedy and hardship as a stepping stool for growth by turning that pain into what now are famous stories and poems. For most writers, majority of their work stem from their own experiences, and for both Alice and Maya a great deal of their works regarded the dilemmas many African Americanpeople faced during that time such as prejudice and discrimination. They were each so passionate about equal rights for colored people that they got involved with the civil rights movement. Maya Angelou participated in the movement in the 1960s by touring the country with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as he prepared for the Poor People s Campaign . Alice Walker participated by writing a novel in 1976 called Meridian, which is known as the meditation on the modern civil rights movement. Both women also had strong views about equality for African American women, and soon became known as Feminist. They used their platform as writers to express the challenges many black women faced, as well as give women like them a voice by promoting gender equality. • 12. The Epistemic Closure Principle By Edmund Gettier Alexander Jerde Phil 312 10/20/2014 The Epistemic Closure Principle The Epistemic closure principle explains that knowledge can be gained by the logically implied inferences between a predicate, based on past experience, and a conclusion. By definition epistemic closure purports that we are justified in believing that our logical inferences are true. Therefore, we can conclude that our past experience (predicate) is a reason to believe a proposition. This principle has been used as the basis of various forms of skeptical arguments against the traditional analysis and inductive/deductive reasoning. Such an example was presented by Edmund Gettier, whose arguments question if we are justified in believing our beliefs as knowledge. Also, Hume questioned if we can really trust inductive /deductive reasoning. In the following I will argue that even though, Gettier s arguments hold some truth, we are still caused to conclude that the epistemic closure is a logical necessity and true. The epistemic closure principle states that knowledge can be gained by acceptance of predicates logically implied relationship with their conclusions. Epistemic closure entails that, deductive and logical reasoning are sound principles of reaching knowledge. Also that, a conclusion (proposition) can be known then by understanding that a necessary logical or deductive inference between a predicate and a conclusion exist. Epistemic closure also entails that we are justified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Introduction of Indirect Taxing on Energy Drinks in France This article discusses how France introduced an indirect tax on energy drinks at €1 per liter. The tax was imposed to tackle alcohol consumption among France s young population and energy drinks consumption due to its high levels of caffeine and sugar. A form of government intervention, an indirect tax, a tax placed on consumption that is considered indirect since households only pay then when they buy a good, affects the energy drinks market outcomes. Pertaining to the diagram above, previous to government intervention, the energy drinks market was allocated purely by the forces of demand and supply1 with market equilibrium at PE (original price) and QE (original quantity). After a tax of €1 per liter was imposed, the equilibrium quantity of energy drinks produced and consumed decreased to Qtax, as the supply curve shifted upwards to Stax . Furthermore, the price paid by consumers increased to Pc from PE and price received by the energy drinks companies decreased to Pp from PE. In addition, consumer expenditure on energy drinks decreased as well. Due to indirect tax, this changed from (d+e+f+g+h) to (b+d+f+g) since consumers are purchasing less of the good as the price increased. The company s revenue also decreased significantly from (d+e+f+g+h) to (f+g), as the quantity of output decreased. However, the government received tax revenue of (b+d), increasing its budget. Some research has been done in relation to small business participation in the informal sector. A prime example is from Trinidad and Tobago, considered as an emerging economy, whereby people have the perception of avoiding tax while performing their business and is the reason why people engage in the informal sector. The focus is on socioeconomic, demographic, and attitudinal characteristics that influence people to run their small business (Sookran Watson, 2008). Moreover, Sookram Watson (2008) in their research on Small business participation in the informal sector of an emerging economy explain that the word informal sector refers to the production of goods and services for market orientation, which is not captured in the estimation of a country s GDP whether these activities are legal or illegal. The contribution of the informal sector to the national economy in the third world economies ranges from 20 to 70 %. It has been commonly thought that the informal sector is the sector linked with the poor and marginalized. Anne Bradstreet does just this in her poem The Author to Her Book. She brilliantly takes the fears and worries of publishing a book into treating it as if it was her own child and, in many respects, that is what a book is to its author. There are many elements used to give the reader the sense what the author sees the book as through metaphors, complete imagery to visualize the scene, and voice to let the reader know just how difficult it is as an author but not just an author, a female author. Revisiting all the metaphors and visuals, it s easy to at least see that this is a motherly like person who regrets the fact she must boot what she feels is a somewhat messy, child out the door. It s a voice filled, once again, with worry, regret, a motherly figure hoping her child will find its way in the world. If one wonders why somebody would have so much worry for the flaws of their creation, it is important to note two factors. Right out the gate the reader knows this author is poor, so she needs money. This is revealed when she says, And for thy Mother, she alas is poor, (Line 23). Seventeenth century is not like today where poor means the government will at least help to an extent, so the person isn t out of luck. There were efforts in the seventeenth century to help the poor but for the most part, that person was kind of out of luck. The second thing is just being an author in this time. In every respect, line 23 right here draws conclusion to the voice of this poem, especially if the reader hasn t read it already. It is a controversial issue, but is it necessary? Capital punishment all started when the colonists brought it to America from England (Source 5). At that time it was the normal thing, and they mainly executed people by firing squad or hangings. In 1972 the supreme ruled that death penalty violated guarantees of due process, equal protection and the prohibition of cruel punishment (source3). Although the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional, each state that felt it was necessary mad new legislation reintroducing capital punishment(Source 3). All of this happening in the 1970 s and 80 s, and it is still in play today. This just shows that the death penalty can live through a lot and will always be around. No matter how many people want it gone each and every state has their own law and each would have to repeal them. The death penalty seems like a ludicrous thing to do, but it is a necessary punishment for some. Death penalty is not what people think. The poison represented revenge against Homer. The story shows archetypes of her emotional state of denial for example, she told them that her father was not dead (143) . She denies her father s death, when clearly doctors and ministers were trying to persuade her to that she needed to dispose of his body. This is a great symbolism of her emotional attachment to her father, and how it affected her state of mind. The empathy and sorrow sets the atmosphere of Emily s fallen monument, her emotional breakage into sadness. The setting of 1894 gives the historical fiction and the enveloping action of the racist times in America, No Negro woman should appear on the streets without an apron (140) At this period America still had a racial mind set, and where the rich were treated differently than the poor. Woolf s rhetorical choices of imagery and symbolism in both passages creates the differential between men and women in society. • 29. A Modern State And Public Water Systems A modern state is a set of organisations and institutions related to the function of the government; its role is to provide order, policy, revenue, internal and external representation, and services.1 When the state fails to govern the commons, that is, the land or resources affecting the whole community, private companies take over. Within the past several decades privatization of the freshwater sources and public water systems is widespread worldwide. Yet, private companies provide water guided by the principle of the financial gain and not based on the equal distribution paradigm, and such approach makes poverty stricken suffer the most, while the wealthy remain intact. In California, the region of the world having the seventh largest world s economy,2 billionaires hoard water in the water banks that have been quietly gifted to them by the government. 3 These water bank systems allow to accumulate water in the underground reservoirs for water bank holders needs or for purpose of leasing.4 One such system, Kern Water Bank, a thirty square miles of marshland filled with flocks of birds,5, is used to water pomegranate trees, a key ingredient in production of the fruit drink by POM Wonderful, a company owned by the billionaires Stewart and Lynda Resnick.6 Ironically, Kern Water Bank Authority, technically a public agency, is subsidized by the Paramount Farming Company, a company with world s largest pistachio and almond production, which is also owned by the Resnicks. ... • 30. Morals In City Of Lost Souls By Cassandra Clare The book, City of Lost Souls written by Cassandra Clare, is about a girl named Clary, who is half angel half human. Clary needs to save her lover Jace who has been brainwashed by her evil brother Sebastian. Clary must stop Sebastian from summoning an army of demons and starting a war between good and evil. When I read this novel, I felt envious. I felt this because the ShadowHunters had so many supernatural abilities compared to humans. For example when we learn that ShadowHunters are half human half Angel which means that they have the ability to draw runes etc. Runes are drawings that give them certain powers, for example becoming stronger, becoming invisible and healing etc. This would be awesome if I had the ability to become invisible or have supernatural strength so that day to day routines would become easier. If i had these powers I would use them to help people in distress, like a modern superman.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author seemed to be suggesting that power hungry individuals will do anything to gain their goals without caring about collateral damage. We see this in the text when Sebastian forces the Iron sisters to make the Infernal cup. The infernal cup is the opposite to the mortal cup and is made with blood from a powerful demon named Lilith. The infernal cup turns Shadowhunters into Dark Shadowhunter and replaces their Angel blood with demon blood, making them evil. This proves that people hungry for power will do anything and use anybody to get more power. People that hunger for power want power because they feel like they have to be in control. An example of somebody who is power hungry is Kim Jong Un. I believe that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable in today s society and should not be tolerated, because people need to be working together and helping eachother out to function in ... • 31. Great Del Close Influence On Improvisational Theatre There are five simple rules to improv, follow these rules and more than just the art changes, your life changes. Improvisational comedy has been around far longer than most people suspect, it can be traced back to the days of Commedia Dell Arte. This style of theatre was popular throughout Europe for almost 200 years starting in the mid 1500s. Performers would travel building makeshift stages and create dialog and plot lines on the spot. Later, Keith Johnstone and Viola Spolin would re invent the art into what we see today on shows such as Who s Line is it Anyway and Wild and Out . Improvisational comedyis more than a tool to give people laughter, it also allows children to learn in new ways and has helped shape society and should... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. Adam Eve Lost in Paradise Paradise Lost by John Milton: Discuss the relationship between Adam and Eve, as portrayed in Book 9 of Paradise Lost. How does Milton s portrayal compare to or differ from how Adam and Eve are typically portrayed, described, or understood? Thoughts of Eve conjure images of a meek woman who is submissive and created to serve her husband. Adam is thought of as a strong, beautiful man created in the likeness of God. He is the ruler of land and sea and leader of all mankind. Their relationship is thought of as idyllic and unified, even throughout and after their fall. However, Milton casts a different light on their relationship and personal traits in Book 9 of Paradise Lost. Adam s submissive helpmate becomes an independent, contrary, ... Therefore, his love for her leads him to eat the fruit because if she is to die then he chooses to die with her because as he says in line 959 to lose thee were to lose myself (2111). Now that they both have sinned, the relationship becomes one of contention, contrary to the traditional image. Sexually it is lustful and depraved lacking the love and intimacy they once shared. Adam is no longer mild towards Eve, but accusatory and blaming even speaking harshly too her which is opposite of how he treated her before the apple. She in turn retaliates against him and tries to blame him for not being stronger. She even accuses of him of not being able to withstand the temptation if it had been him. Sadly, what becomes of their relationship is a blame game that is fruitless and controlled by pride with neither taking responsibility for their actions (2116). In the end of this book, Milton inserts an interesting point about the male/female relationship that easily could be overlooked. He switches from Adam making a point about Eve, to generalizing all women of which Eve is the representative. Adam talks of Eve s confidence and perfection and how much he admired her, but realizes that is where he went wrong calling it his crime (2116). Then he makes the shift towards women, which is craftily done by Milton, almost like a forewarning to men to beware of the power of women in the following: Thus it shall befall Him who to ... The Political Background Of Hobby Well first off, I d like to say that having never really been all that interested in politics, analyzing the life of a politician wasn t exactly something I felt too enthusiastic to delve into. Having said all that, my intrigue in understanding the political background of Hobby picked up right from page #1 in the book. Being a first generation American in my family with direct roots to the small fairly new nation of Bangladesh and being a New York native myself, I ve never really thought of how much a connection one such as Hobby must have with a state or a land to truly become immersed in its realm of politics. Dating back to the Civil War, Hobby s ancestors both provided service to the Texan republic from Major Alfred Marmaduke Hobby of the Eighth Texas Confederate Infantry Regiment to Captain of Company D Edwin E. Hobby. The Marmaduke s have made a great impact on Texas ever since, with Major Marmaduke rejecting Union Lt. Kittredge s demand to inspect government buildings as well as retaliating against the Union ship USS Arthur itself through open fire and Edwin Hobby going onto becoming a district judge within the Livingston and Polk counties respectively. Bill Hobby s very own father; Will Hobby went from being the president of the Houston Post to Lieutenant Governor of Texas. However, across the Atlantic Ocean in Central and South America, there were a number of growing urban centers being built by the Aztec, Mayan, and Incan civilizations. An example of a Central American urban center is Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan was the capital of the ancient Aztec capital which is located in present day Mexico City, Mexico. The development of this ancient city was dependent on three important factors: favorable ecology, advancing technology, and social organization. With these three preconditions, the growth of Tenochtitlan as a major urban center and as the capital of the Aztec s civilization was able to flourish. Similarly to modern day real estate, location played a detrimental role in determining whether or not an urban center could truly develop and flourish. A location with favorable ecology allows for resources such as agriculture to be produced near or within the city. However, agriculture is not the only element of ecology that allows for a city to develop. Other ecological elements such as rivers, lakes, elevation, mineral resource, and building materials are important in determining whether or not a location has favorable ecology (28). In my essay I will be evaluating one argument put forward by a famous philosopher, in this case William Paley, an English clergyman born in 1743, in which he tries to show similarities in the design of nature and the design of man made artefacts. William Paley s Theological argument for the existence of God raises quite a few questions from the offset of Paley s book Natural Theology. The first piece of evidence that he uses to argue his point is his analogy of him stumbling upon a stone in a field and wondering how it came to be there , Paley states that he could argue that it would be acceptable to believe that the stone had stayed there forever due to the fact he has no prior knowledge of how it came to be there.
