Dungeons And Dragons Character Comparison
Board games and card games are a pastime of American culture. Sitting around with friends or
family and competing against each other to hopefully be the one to win the game. Something
that is not seen as much, is a cooperative game to play with friends and family. There is a game
like this, it is just not as well known. Dungeons and Dragons is a good game option to play with
friends or family. There are a variety of characters to play as like Elves, Dwarves, Humans, and
Orcs. Some less commonly played characters are Gnomes and Haflings. Both Gnomes and
Haflings have their own unique traits that make them so fun to play. The choice of what character
to play when starting a campaign can be difficult. It is hard to know which character will be... Show

They both are fun loving characters that anyone would want to play in a Dungeons and Dragons
campaign. Haflings and Gnomes both possess a good skill set to start players off and help
newcomers get a feel for what the game is about, and see what characters they want to play. They
are both extremely complex creatures that will spice up any campaign. Gnomes and Haflings
would make a great choice for characters in any campaign, they both have a unique combination of
skills, personality traits, and looks, and are overall equally

Explain Why I Want To Be An Obstetrician
Have you thought about your career in the future? Most people in my school know what they
want their career for them to be. For example, my cousin who is now a senior, decided that he
wanted to go to the military, like many other young men. Even I, a twelve year old girl, knows
and planned what she wants to do in the future. I will try really hard to become obstetrician, a
type a doctor who delivers babies. The reason for my choice is because of many things about
them except the money. That is why I always try really hard in school and it pays off. I chose my
career, now it is your turn.
One of the reasons I want to be an obstetrician is because I, as any other person, admire there
work. I do not care how much money I will get paid because the only reason I want to be an
obstetrician is because I have always admired them because they are the people who help bring
new life into our world. They also delivered me, and my whole family so I should be thankful for
that. If it was not for them I would not have been on this world and neither would other people and
that would not be a happy world. I also admire them because at any time, and ... Show more content

I would be proud because I would be the person who helped many weeks, months, and days just
to get a little and precious human being to the world. For example, in my house I am proud of
most of my grades and helping out my mom with the kids and chores around the house. If I am
proud just doing that cannot imagine how I will feel when I complete my career in the future. I
will be satisfied with the care I give my patients because I as a doctor worked really hard just to
deliver a little human being and made my patients happier by giving them a new person in the
family. An example is when I am satisfied with just have A s and B s on my report card then I will
be even more satisfied when I helped deliver a human

The Effects Of Electroconvulsive Therapy On Other Forms Of...
INTRODUCTION I am going to be examining Electroconvulsive Therapy, which is used to treat
severely depressed people, as well as other forms of psychological disorders. I m focusing only on
how this therapy is used to treat major depression, because although depression is the most treatable
mental illness, it is still the one we all suffer from the most. This therapy uses electrical currents to
re charge the neurotransmitters in the brain, allowing these neurotransmitters to function
efficiently, restoring the chemical imbalance in the Adrenal and Thyroid systems; which is often
found in patients with severe depression. This therapy is better known through the media as shock
therapy. Sounds scary, but it s very safe and has been proven to help save people suffering from
this often unbearable, mood disorder.
POPULATION
People most at risk for depression are ones who have had something terrible happen to them at
some point in their lives. It could be the loss of a loved one, getting fired or laid off from a job,
or finding out that your husbands been lying and cheating with your good friend. Developing
major depression also increases if you re a heavy drug user or alcoholic, and if someone in your
family has had these same thoughts and feelings. If a family member has a mood disorder, studies
show a significant increase that s over double the likely hood, of developing these distorted
thoughts.
Researchers also found that people between the ages of 25 44 years old

The Bibliography Of Heady Lamarr
Part 1: The Bibliography of Heady Lamarr
Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Maria Eva Kiesler in Vienna, Austria on November 9, 1914 to
Emil and Gertrud Kiesler. According to several sources Hedy was extremely spoiled by her
father as he doted on her constantly and encouraged her love of scientific exploration, conversely
her mother Gertrud was reportedly much sterner with Hedy. According to Hedy and her family,
Hedy s goal was always to be an actress so it was no surprise to her contemporaries when she
dropped out of school to join the theater. It s important to note that the theater was a well respected
well attended media outlet in Vienna at that time, the culture of Vienna was accepting and often
based on the philosophy and biases expressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is how Hedy gained the knowledge necessary to work with George Antheil in the
development of the Secret Communication System . The biggest issue for Hedy while she was
married to Friz was that she was not allowed to work, she described her marriage to him as Being
kept in the Gilded Cage and she eventually had to escape the marriage and flee to Paris. This is
where she eventually met up Louis B Mayer, a talent scout in Europe, who helped her move to
America, change her name to Hedy Lamarr, and begin her Hollywood career.
Furthermore interesting is that after Hedy patented her invention, the Navy denied to use it;
stating that it just took up too much space onboard their already over packed ships. But Hedy
had a will to help with the war efforts, so she went on a campaign to sell war bonds through the
influence of her celebrity status. After which she continued her film career for a total of 33
movies [3], raised three children one of which she adopted, and married and divorced five more
times. Hedy eventually died on January 19, 2000 in her home in Casselberry, FL, ironically enough
she spent most of her last few years in seclusion only communicating with her family via a
cellphone, the very technology her invention helped create.

ACUTE CHOLECYSTITIS: EARLY VERSUS LATE LAPAROSCOPIC CHOLECYSTECTOMY.
INTRODUCTION
Gallbladder disease is a common surgical pathology and may present in an elective or an acute
setting. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become the gold standard management for symptomatic
gallbladder disease. However, there are many concerns with regards to the implementation of this
versatile technique for acute cholecystitis. Concerns centered on the anticipation of conversion to
an open procedure and the increase in complications such as bile duct injury.
The following case involves 33 year old female patient that presented with signs and symptoms of

Cabaret For A Cure Essay
Cabaret for a Cure ABC!! It s easy as 123! Or as simple as Do, Re, Mi! Cabaret for a cure is a
nonprofit organization which I have been a part of for the past two years. We perform a show,
have a dinner, hold a tricky tray and all the money goes to a child in need. We perform in a
banquet hall, on a little stage, in front of hundreds of people, and I love it. They have been doing
it for ten years and have helped so many families. The people are super nice and they show you
how it all happens. This year I got to be a bigger part of this show. I got to be around adults who
have been singing and entertaining for years and it made me want to do it even more. By being
a bigger part of it, I got to witness the change you make just by singing. When I sang the Jackson
5 medley with Kelly, everyone was out of their seats dancing and within those 3 hours of having
fun and being around such nice people, it was like there was no bad in the world and everyone
was happy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This year the child we did the benefit was only 2 years old and his name is Xavier Gonzales. All
the money we made this year went to him and his family so they can pay for hospital visits and
help him out in his time of trouble. It is also inspirational to me personally because the men and
women in the show with me help me with confidence they also help me want to do more shows
and how to perform them. Some adults take care of us by making sure we are on the stage on time
or making sure we know the dances so we don t make fools of ourselves. One of those people was

Army is full of men and ladies who take pride in serving for their nation. Demonstrable skill, teach
and uprightness are key parts that every individual serving today should have. Every non military

Also, this obviously is something that each administrator particularly if the officer is going into a

Army since rank structure is the idea of where all train in the positions originates from. Without a
rank structure know one would know who is accountable for who and everybody would begin to
attempting to assume responsibility in their own particular manner cause perplexity and confusion

nobody would know who should justify the train or who should complete the teach in this way

The presentation will be recorded and animated on screen/PowerPoint Title Slide The poem that
I have chosen is the road not taken , by Robert frost. Next Slide This poem has multiple themes
that give it its structure. The main one being choices. The speaker is walking on a road (which
back then would have been an equivalent of a walking track today). The road is splitting into two
directions, and the speaker needs to choose which way they will go. Now, this path has two
meanings. The first meaning, is obviously the direction in the woods he must choose. But the other
meaning that can be taken from this poem is a choice in life.... Or in this specific case, the speaker
s life. Something is driving them to make a certain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This rhythm is created by the use of four stanzas consisting of five lines each, (show five lines
numbered) when a stanza is built up from five lines, it is called a cinquain. In the first cinquain,
lines one, three.... and four.. rhyme (zoom to show lines). The words that rhyme is wood, stood
and could. Also in the first cinquain lines two and four rhyme. The words that rhyme are both
and undergrowth. This rhyming pattern is repeated throughout each cinquain, with the same
lines rhyming and all consisting of open and closed rhymes in the form of A.B.A.A.B as you
can see here. (Blink A.B.A.A.B) Next Slide Relevance The relevance of this poem is the same
or even more so in today s society in comparison to when the poem was written. This is due to
today s society having so many more opportunities which in turn creates many more challenges.
Peer pressure is a big part of today s society, and as humans we often follow the path of other, for
fear of failure. This poem shows the point of being different and that makes all the difference to
one life. (show pictures of the relevant lines) Personal response I feel I am very similar to the
speaker due to the fact that I often take the road less travelled, to make the right decision,
enhancing my journey in life and not follow the general crowd. I often find myself looking at my
options and base my decisions on what I feel will have the best outcome and better my future.

Narrative Voice In Lot s Wife
The depiction of the characters is a vital aspect of Szymborska s works. This is notable in the
poems Lot s Wife and The Terrorist, He s Watching (see Appendix 1). This depiction of the
characters is influenced by many literary techniques, one being narrative voice. Narrative voice
can be defined as the eyes the reader sees a story through. This is separated into three distinct
types: first, second and third person. First person is typically told from the perspective of the main
character, second personaddresses the main character as you and third person refers to the
characters as he or she. Third person can either be omniscient; knowing an unlimited amount of
information about all characters, events and conflicts in the story, or... Show more content on

The poem commences with a third person narrative voice. This persona describes the terrorist as
enjoying the moment, The terrorist has already crossed the street. / The distance keeps him out of
danger, / and what a view just like the movies: (5 7). By describing the situation as movie like, it
shows that the terrorist values his life over others as he situates himself at a distance where he can
observe safely. This idea is also expressed through the fact that the language is factual, observational
and unemotional, conveying the emotional detachment of the terrorist towards the pain and
suffering he will inflict. The use of language in this is vastly different to that of Lot s Wife with the
contrast of emotional language and factual language. The descriptions of the individuals are
detached with mundane characteristics, such as the crummy gloves (26), only being mentioned.
This creates the sense that these individuals are less important than him, showing that the terrorist
looks down on them. Throughout the piece, there is a sense of dramatic irony, with the terrorist
knowing something that the people entering and exiting the bar don t. This introduces the idea that
the terrorist perceives this situation as comedic. This idea is continued with the use of time
intervals marking the countdown of the detonation.

Equality In Early Generations In The United States
Earlier generations who migrated from other countries that came to start a new life had many
things to accomplish. At the start of the migration, people and settlers came for a new beginning
and also a fresh start at life itself. With that tough task at hand, it also came with a price, such as
equality, fighting for rights, the constant need for change and following a movement. During
this essay I will be able to shed some light and point of views on equality on generations, political
pressure, engaging in strikes and the division in social classes. In earlier generations, equality
was not a topic that was very popular. If you were born into a poor family, chances are that you
yourself were going to fall into that blood life for decades... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If the bosses are corrupt and control the majority of how things operate, then there is no voice
among the poor and middle class people. If they are employing me 80 90 percent of my day and
not letting me or my people utilize the public subways or common things that everyone else is,
they are essentially trying to contain us, so that we are so unprivileged and exhausted we
wouldn t put up a fight. They are also limiting us in giving us access to what was once
considered public . The social classes are divided in this perspective, if you knew or know
someone of power them you belonged and if you didn t, then in turn you were looked down upon
as someone with no rights. In conclusion the equality of earlier generations was really never
established until people began to rebel and make it noticeable. A strike would only be necessary if
the bosses where not corrupt and not control the public uses of everything that was once common.
Finally, with the division of social classes would have change if at the beginning of time there

Sociology As The Second Father Of Sociology
Neither the life of an Individual nor the history of a Society can be understood without
understanding both (mills, 2017), this is how C. wright mills describes sociology. Every human
live in a society, Sociology is the systemic study of human society and relationships on a group
level. And also it allows looking on the big picture on a group level. The talks about sociology
started when industrial revolution began during late 1700s and 1800s. This essay will give you
some information about the founders of Sociology and their theories. August Comte known as the

Being a great philosopher he got interested in studying sociology and he focused on the study of
society which is called sociology . During the days when August Comte started discovering more
about sociology, he found out that there is a system called Positivism . Positivism means
checking or testing if a social method works on human social behavior and sees how societies
are structured. His efforts led to the development of sociology among the people. He kept on
trying to promote his idea around the world. He died due to stomach cancer in Paris on

there was another person with the exact opposite idea about sociology. William George Spencer

My Counseling Goals
My first goal was to be able to use basic counseling skills within my counseling sessions and

approach may differ from others and that this is okay. I learned that in this journey it is very
important to know what theoretical orientation you are using to think about change.

Overview of EarthВґs History and Periods Essay
Precambrian Era The Precambrian era laster 4600 541 million years ago. During this time, there
were no plant life on the planet. Most of the things that were on the planet were rocks. The most
common type of rock was Isua greenstone. Most rocks have been eroded away, subducted, or
metamorphosed. During this time, the atmospheres and oceans were formed, plate tectonics
began to build up continental masses. The air during this time was mostly made up of water
vapor, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. Later on, oxygen was formed from early animals taking in
carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Scientists know this because oxygen was formed with iron,

Ordovician Period The Ordovician Period lasted almost 45 million years. During this period, most
of the area was almost entirely ocean, and most of the world s land was collected into the southern
supercontinent Gondwana. Throughout the Ordovician, Gondwana was submerged underwater.
This period is best known for its animals, including graptolites, trilobites, brachiopods, and the
conodonts. Plants invaded the land during this period. The most recent types of like animal was

the land at this time. Later during the period, the Earth experienced a milder climate; the
weather was warm and the atmosphere contained a lot of moisture. Although, when Gondwana
finally settled on the South Pole, massive glaciers formed, and caused shallow seas, and sea
levels to drop. This most likely caused extinctions at the end of the Ordovician in which 60% of
all marine invertebrate genera and 25% of all families went extinct. The ecosystems was still
dominized by algae and sponges, and in some cases by bryozoans. However, there apparently
were also periods of complete reef collapse because to global disturbances. The major global
patterns of life went through changes during the Ordovician period. Many species of graptolites
went extinct by the close of the period, but the first planktonic

Diabetic Neuropathy Essay
Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is among the chronic microvascular complications of diabetes
mellitus due to hyperglycemia. Prevalence of diabetic neuropathy is high, affecting more than 60%
of diabetics (Boulton et al., 2005). The clinical manifestation of diabetic neuropathy include
numbness, tingling sensation in toes, feet, legs, arms, hands and fingers (Kumar et al.). It leads to
significant morbidity, impact on quality of life of patients (Zychowska et al.) and increases the risk
of infections leading to the foot ulcers and non traumatic amputations (Bansal et al.). In diabetic

It leads to the reduced coupling efficiency in mitochondria and increased superoxide radical
generation damaging both nuclear DNA and mitochondrial DNA leading to activation of poly ADP
ribose polymerase enzyme (PARP) (Fernyhough et al.Brownlee, 2001; Nishikawa et al., 2000b, to
be added). PARP activation leads to inactivation of AMPK which facilitates mitochondrial
biogenesis. Thus, PARP activation compromises the cellular mitochondrial genesis which leads to
accumulation of damaged mitochondria in the cell. Molecular studies have revealed the
involvement of transcriptional regulators such as Nrf2, NF ОєB, and COX 2 inflammatory cascade
in the pathology of diabetic neuropathy. The Nuclear factor 2 erythroid related factor (Nrf2) is a
redox transcription factor for the production of endogenous antioxidant defenses and detoxifying
enzymes. Nuclear factor kappa light chain enhancer of ОІ cells(NF ОєB) is a transcription factor,
involved in pro inflammatory cytokine production (Negi et al.). Both Nrf2 and NF ОєB regulation
are co ordinated in order to maintain redox homeostasis in healthy cells. However, during
pathological conditions this regulation is disturbed offering an opportunity for therapeutic
intervention. Diabetic neuropathy is a condition , in which change in expression pattern of Nrf2

career development with some examples. Social networking provides a lot of benefits towards
career development. One of the biggest advantages of using social media is for a job search,
which gives candidate leads that they would not have known otherwise. Social media sites are
good, especially toward professional networking, for simple reasons, it provides the best career
leads for professional. Moreover, if a job candidate follows company pages and accounts on other
social media network, the candidate might come across a job posting that is a perfect fit (Brad
Schepp, 2012). LinkedInis one of the white collar sites which give people the opportunity to meet
business people who are known to their contacts. According to Schepp (2012), the reason for this
site is to improve the connection among professional, which is a huge deal in a job search. As
compared to an individual who attended a networking event and collected many business cards and
would try to remember details information about each person,

Task 1 Part 1
For the task I have chosen Next Plc. It is a British apparel, footwear and home products retailer.
According to the Company s official website, it has around 700 stores in the UK and about 200
stores worldwide (Next Plc: At a glance, 2016). The Company is listed on the London Stock
Exchange and is a member of the FTSE 100 Index.
Question 1
Next s three key resource are financial, human and capital. They are limited and their effective
allocation has a direct impact on the Company s financial performance and long run viability.
Financial resources

Puppy Mills Have Been Notorious For Keeping The Puppy...
Puppy mills have been notorious for keeping the puppy trade industry alive and as big as it is
today. With thousands of puppy mills, both known and under the radar, they provide easy access
and cheap puppies to sell at pet stores at inflated prices. While they do keep the business booming
and keep pure breeds that may specialize in important roles, they continue to put countless numbers
of dogs through terrifying pain. To stop the agonizing torture the lovable pups go through, stricter
rules must be applied to these puppymills, a new license regulation must be used, regular
inspections, and awareness of alternative options must be made. With already set regulations on
puppy mills, people say there is no reason to have any additions on the rules. There is a kennel
license, which restricts how many dogs someone can have depending on how much square
footage of land he or she owns. This regulates the amount of dogs that can be held for breeding
and to keep the area clean and safe enough for all the dogs involved. People are required to go
through a moderately long process to achieve their license, to ensure that these dogs will be
okay. Puppy mills are also known for keeping pure breed numbers up, such as beloved German
shepherds, poodles, Welsh Pembroke corgis, and Labradors. Having mixed breeds can be
healthier of course but as Sofia Jeppsson had said in her article Purebred Dogs and Canine
Wellbeing, However, in the long run such a strategy would severely deplete the

Dumbing Down
How much of a problem is the so called Dumbing down in British Journalism? Since turning into
an unmistakable piece of present day human culture, the media has dependably been a wellspring
of debate. Particularly, journalism has often been accused as being the protagonist in the so called
dumbing down of society. Usually used as a derogatory term, dumbing down is the simplifying
and diluting of a subject towards the lowest common denominator. In other words, it s used to
describe the lack of definition between what is considered high culture, usually referring to the
classical arts and relating to the rich upper class, and pop culture, a more ephemeral and
commercial forum seen as inferior to that of high culture. In this essay,... Show more content on

An Active Audience is an audience that consistently question what they are shown in the media

accepting to the contents of what the media tells them, being more compliant to the Hypodermic
Needle theory of the 1940 s. The Hypodermic Needle or Magic Bullet theory maintained that
people were uniformly controlled by their biologically based instincts and that they react more or
less uniformly to whatever stimuli came along (Lowery DefFleur, 1995: 400). I believe however, a
more adequate audience reception model is the Uses and Gratifications theory. This theory explores
not how we consume certain media, but for what reasons. Different people digest different news for
different reasons. It implies that the reason we may me be more attracted to junk food news as
escapism of simply a conversation starter/mutual interest if the masses. In the interest of differing
trends and genre crazes of our modern society, media institutions create productions/front pages that
they know will attract an ample demographic. Akin to how Broadsheet Newspapers are slowly but

Homecoming Quotes
Wow, that was quick. The entire semester just flew by!
This week we were given a set of subjects and given the task of finding quotes that relate to them.
The four that were selected, the Soldier Civilian Divide, War is Hell, Bravery and Cowardice, and
lastly, Homecoming.
Kevin started the discussion with his connection of passages that have to do with the idea of
homecoming. I think that homecoming plays a significant part of war, whether it be a soldier or
group of soldiers leaving the front line for good, or simply coming home for a short time. It s such
a crucial and important part of the war narrative and Kevin s quotes really put an emphasis on that.
He discusses the great importance of the idea and the actual act of coming home, and

The Benefits Of Transgender In The Armed Forces
Transgender in the Armed Forces
Many go to risk their lives to serve our country and unfortunately many don t come home in the
end. Entering our armed forces brings great opportunities, but a lot of stress as well. Being given
the freedom and the chance to serve is phenomenal. Every race, gender, or sexual orientation
should have a right to join, or so we thought. Why shouldn t certain minority groups not be allowed
to serve?
Upon joining the armed forces many benefits step forward, but do some of these benefits go too
far? Many army recruiters come to schools and always mention the benefits. Transgender veterans
or personnel need medications and maybe some surgery which cost quite a sum of money that gets
passed to the government to pay (West). The government should not be paying for transition
surgery or medications, due to it being the taxpayers money(West). People that are transgender
should be able to pay for their own hormones and surgeries because other transgender people not in
the military do so(West). In many ways too they could be disqualified for the medications and the
surgery before entering the armed forces (Allen). Why should they be given special treatment for
being transgender, when someone else is just as qualified and willing is dismissed for depression
or some other medical need. Even with these exceptions the medications or surgery might even
work in the end. Transgenders have been known to be mentally unstable before joining the military

As stated above the University of California San Diego is not in the most desirable location,
however I believe it is the right choice after Mesa. UCSD is located in La Jolla at 9500 Gillman
Drive (Make Waves,2016). The nearest four year university for me would be San Diego State
University. I currently live in Chula Vista making UCSD a 28 minute drive time, not factoring in
traffic (Travelmath,2016). In comparison SDSU would be a 17 minute drive. Brenda Antonio, a
manager in the accounting department at UCSD, lives in my neighborhood and has stated that her
average drive time on a weekday morning is an hour (Antonio,2016). An hour commute may sound
like an inconvenience but there some positive aspects to a long commute. In a study done by the
Australian National University it was found that many people enjoy their commute and, said this

First son and World War I veteran, Robert Fredrick or Fred celebrated the silver wedding
anniversary with his wife Annie May Cowley on March 27, 1943. They were married at
Goldalming Anglican church in England. For the first two years of the war Fred instructed his
compatriots in the use of rifle and bayonets in England, finally giving it up for action in France.
There he was gassed and severely wounded by a mortar shell, received shrapnel to the side of his
head that also blew out an ear drum. He was sent back to England to convalesce. It is during this
convalescent period that he met Annie May Cowley of Upton on Severn Worchester and there
they had Helen Maud their first child on April 16, 1919. With the $5 Fred earned for his war

On average, black females report 0.7 police stops in the past two years, compared to 0.4 stops for

Respondents were also asked if they had been physically searched by the police in the past two

particularly black males are more vulnerable to police searches than respondents from other

the past two years, compared to only 3% of white and Chinese males. Black females are also more

Home Depot Case Analysis

was the very spot where Jazz music was born (Lee). This was the only place African slaves could
play their drums in New Orleans. In fact, it was the only place in America where the slaves had
that type of freedom. The slave holders would allow the African slaves to be off work every
Sunday. The other states in North America would never allow this freedom. Music was
everywhere in New Orleans: churches, funerals, celebrations, parades, the French opera. Jazz
music plays a significant role in funerals because it provides comfort. Slow, traditional tunes
would be played to mourn over the death of a loved one. Once some words are exchanged over
the dead, the jazz becomes more up beat and turns into a celebration. This change in beat signifies
that, although the people are sad they had to let the person go, they are happy they actually got to

people to mourn. Without their jazz, New Orleans probably wouldn t have gotten through all of

Literacy Vs. Low Literacy Essay
Literacy Connections (LC) was founded in 1975 as Literacy Volunteers of America Dutchess
County, Inc. The agency changed its name to Literacy Connections in 2005. Literacy Connections
is a private, not for profit, 501(C) (3) organization committed to helping adults and families become
functionally literate. The organization works with the lowest literacylevel adults in Dutchess,
Columbia, and Greene Counties.
Our core program is to help adults to learn to read and write, and function independently by
recruiting and training volunteers to provide one to one and small group tutoring that is student
centered. Student centered means not following a pre determined curriculum, and giving a voice to
the student with regard to their learning goals. Teaching adults is not the same as teaching children.
Materials must be sensitive and respectful of adult learners, and because adults face so many
challenges in their daily lives, the learning must be relevant and meaningful. Recognizing that
illiteracy/low literacy is a family issue, our Adult Family Literacy Program also offers reading
enrichment to children who are struggling with reading in the 2nd 4th grades the crucial time when
children are transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn.
MISSION STATEMENT Literacy Connections is dedicated to developing and offering programs
and services to support a literate society. We recruit and train volunteers to provide no cost student

It is not known how life came to be on the earth, but it is proven that it has evolved over time, and
life is unified by a common ancestor. In the 1920s, a hypothesis was created by scientists
Alexander Oparin and J.B.S. Haldane, that predicted that the first life forms were formed in an
acidic primordial sea. Oparin believed that a string of of chemical reactions within an aquatic
environment had led to the formation of coacervates. Coacervates are aggregates of organic
polymers that have life like characteristics, but are not alive. When Oparin created coacervates,
he used a couple different solutions of macromolecules to form these aggregates, and he
discovered that the coacervates had a selectively permeable membrane. It is thought that
coacervates may have been one of the first pieces in the origin of life on Earth. This lab uses a
carbohydrate, gum arabic, and a protein, gelatin to create coacervates. As we carry out the
procedures to create the coacervates, we will observe how coacervates are formed and what
characteristics they share with life. Through doing this, we will gain better understanding of the
Oparin Haldane hypothesis and the possible explanation of how life was formed on Earth. (

1984 Dystopia Analysis
The idea of a utopia sounds like a great idea, however it always turns into a feared dystopia. This
is exactly what happens in the novel, 1984 and in the notorious group, The Ku Klux Klan. The
definition of Utopia is an imaginary and indefinitely remote place (Utopia). The illusion these
groups create never end up being utopias and eventually becomes a dystopia. The definition of
dystopia is an imaginary place where people lead dehumanized and often fearful lives
(Dystopia). The KKK and Oceania are perfect examples of a falsified utopias that are simply
dystopias. In the book, 1984 written by George Orwell, Big Brother makes the illusion of a
utopia via the uses of doublespeak, propaganda and, brainwashing. In Oceania, Big Brother
convinces the citizens that they live in a utopian world while they are really living in a dystopia.

The International Monetary Fund ( Imf ) Essay
Introduction:
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an international organization created in 1945 to foster
global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high
employment and sustainable economic growth, and to reduce poverty around the world. The IMF
is governed and accountable to the 189 countries that make up the global membership of the
organization. These goals make up the IMFs formal rules, the informal rules allow more access for
powerful countries, such as the United States and Germany, to set their foreign policy goals through
the facade of the IMF. The United States and other powerful nations like Germany, operate on a
constraint conditionality that allows them to influence countries based upon their Western ideals
and practices of democracy.
The IMF requires certain qualifications in order for countries to receive financial help. If countries
want to borrow money from the IMF, they must meet a certain set of conditions: fiscal policy
disciplines like avoiding large fiscal deficits relative to GDP, redirection of public spending from
subsidies toward primary education, health care and infrastructure investment, tax reform, market
determined interest rates, competitive exchange rates, trade liberalization, liberalization of inward
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), privatization of state owned enterprises, deregulation and legal

Physics Of Running Research Paper
The Physics of Running
Running uses many different laws of physics. Some specific laws or principles are Law of
Pendulum; Newton s First, Second, and Third Laws; velocity; acceleration; and friction. In our
project, we will focus specifically on Newton s three laws, the Law of Pendulum, and velocity.
Running is defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary as to go faster than a walk; specifically :
to go steadily by springing steps so that both feet leave the ground for an instant in each step. This
project will explain how the aforementioned laws pertain to the physics of running. Those involved

Velocity is the rate of change of an object s position and is a function of time. You can find the
speed that someone goes by knowing how far they went and how long it took them to get there.
The equation used to find velocity is v=d/t; v is velocity, d is distance traveled, and t is time.
Someone who runs the 3200m in 12 minutes runs at an average speed of 266.67 m/min. For a
runner who wants to improve their time in a race, they need to cover more distance per minute.
To achieve running an 11 minute 30 second 3200m a person would run at an average pace of
278.26m/min. This is found by using the same equation v=d/t. This is used to find average
velocity for the race. Many runners do not keep the same speed in a race, especially in a 3200m
race. At the end of a race a runner will speed up to as fast as they

Jap The End Of World War II
At the end of World War II, the United States took occupation of Japan in an under the pretext of
leading the nation toward a path of democracy. However, it appears that the intent of the United
States has changed over time. Instead of helping Japan in the years after WWII, the United States
used Japan as a pawn to better its own interests. In 1946, General MacArthur the Supreme
Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP) asked United Statescitizens to take the responsibility of
writing a new constitution for Japan. There was not a single Japanese person asked to help with the

When the proposition was given to include these issues, the majority of the group white males
found that the proposal went farther that our own constitution and was unnecessary to be included.
This decision was made after it was brought to their attention that many other countries at the time
had integrated these issues into their own constitution. The focus of the constitutional meetings
were not to create a newer better Japan, but to create an image of the United States in the Pacific
Ocean. To better manifest this image, the Unites States decided that it would be best if Japan
remained militarized. This demilitarization came in the form of Article 9, which stated that Japan
could not have an armed military force for forever. Without an army of their own, the United States
implemented their own troops and negotiated for there to be permanent bases in Japan; a constant
reminder of the influence and power of the United States. Once the constitution was implemented,
Japan began to change, however many of these changes were because of a United States backing.
One can see these changes if they look to the media of the time. Before the United States, cinema

The South Sea Bubble
Throughout the text of the book, you will read about different bubbles that occurred in history.
Some of these bubbles have happened in the last ten years and some have happened in the last
three hundred years. One of the most interesting bubbles that I read about was The South Sea
Bubble . The South Sea Company in England was formed in 1711 to create confidence in the
government s ability to meet its debts and promises. This company took a government debt (IOU)
for ten million pounds. In return, the government was given monopoly over all trade to the South
Seas (Malkiel, Page 41). People thought there would be a lot of opportunity to make money during
this time. In 1720, the entire national debt, which was thirty one million pounds, was capitalized.
The stock rose from 130 pounds to 300 pounds when the bill was introduced to Parliament. After
bill became the law, the South Sea Company sold a new issue of stock at 300 pounds. There
were fights that broke out by investors who wanted to purchase this new stock price at a
proposed installment offer. (Figure 1) Figure 1 is an image of what a stock certificate looked like
when issued to investors. South Sea Company reissued a new stock price of 400 pounds. The stock

Waxler et al., 1992; De Waal Van Roomalen, 1979). Observations of consolation behavior in
animals such as elephants have led to the conclusion that consolation behavior may require
advanced cognitive capacities (Plotnik De Waal, 2014). However, the current study sought to
investigate if consolation behavior could be observed outside of species with advanced cognition,
such as in a rodentspecies. Such an observationwould suggest that consolation behavior relies on
less cognitive capacities and may be variably expressed in species due to their species specific
evolutionary context (Burkett et al., 2016).
Researchers decided to use the rodent species of the prairie vole and the meadow vole in their
study. This was done because the social traits of the prairie vole, i.e. being socially monogamous
and biparental, often coevolve with other cooperative behaviors that increase direct or indirect
fitness, including social buffering among colony members (Burkett et al., 2016). The meadow vole,
in contrast, are promiscuous breeders with no formal social structure. Thus, Burkett and colleagues
offered the following three hypotheses. Firstly, they hypothesized that if both voles are placed
under reproducible laboratory conditions, then the prairie vole will show consolation behavior
while the

Consumer Behavior And Consumer Behaviour
Introduction
A consumer is any person that is involved in the process of consumption. They are identified
according to the market type to which they belong, namely final and industrial consumers
(Solomon, et al., 2013). Understanding the consumer behaviors will aid in appreciating the various
market segments and developing strategies for effecting market penetration in these segments. It
will also help in identifying market gaps and shape their needs and objectives so as to solve the
day to day consumer s concerns in purchase.
The single purpose of all production is consumption. The producer s interest should only be
attended to as far as it is necessary in promoting the needs of a consumer (Smith, 1937 p. 125).
Studies on consumer behavior began in the 1960s, and later several consumer theories which
focused on the consumer from various perspectives were developed. Marketers use these theories to
deveop marketing strategies based on attitudes, interests and consumer perception.
Consumer behavior theories All major consumer theories can be grouped into four categories,
namely economic, psychological, psycho analytical, and socio cultural theories. They are based on
the simple law of conumption that consumption increases as aggregate income increases, assuming
the habits of spending are constant and political and economic conditions are free and perfect
(Solomon, et al., 2013).
Economic theories Economic theories on consumption are focused on how income is allocated and

Essay on Our Town
In the play Our Town , by Thornton Wilder, a character by the name of Simon Stimson makes a
very insightful statement about people and their lives. Simon is dead and buried, as well as
several of the play s other characters, when a newly dead young woman named Emily joins their
ranks and begins to realize the triviality and ignorance of her existence, as well as that of every
living person. The dead are discussing this insignificance and unawareness of the living when
Simon comments with disgust on how much living persons waste their life, asserting, To spend and
waste time as though you had a million years. In this statement, Simon is referring to the degree of
which people take their lives for granted.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People live their lives working towards something they think will always be attainable, setting their
eyes on the future, living for the future, rushing for the future, and ignoring the present. With Our
Town , Thornton Wilder is attempting to show us these faults and trying to persuade us to live in
and for the present and to cherish every day that we live and breathe.
With the people of Grover s Corners representing this daily ignorance and triviality, the lives of
the people who surround me are no exception. Take, for instance, my father, who on most days
awakes early to leave for his job, works all day and comes home only to drive my siblings and I
around, run errands, go to his side jobs, or fix the house, help us with our homework, stay on top
of both our social lives, our moral growth, and our educational careers. Some nights my father
will sit down and watch some television for maybe an hour or two, while most he simply doing
everything but something for himself. On rare occasion is my father allowed to stop and enjoy
life, and savor the moment. Honestly, I would really like to know when the last time was that my
father found time to simply admire his and my mother s garden without actually having to tend it.
And yet another example is my mother, who does not even have to worry about her job most of
the time, for she works once to

Civic-Sclerosis Essay
That citizen sinks further into apathy, anonymity, and depersonalization. The result is that he
comes to depend on public authority and a state of civic sclerosis sets in (Alinsky, 1971). This
statement perfectly describes what is happening to the people today. People are no longer
concerned with what is happening around them. The world today is living in an individualization
phase where there are more people who know more stuff about the celebrities, latest fashion and
gadgets, rich lifestyle, etc. rather than the continuous welfare problems. Because the world has
reached the technology era, people are blind and deaf to the oppression that is happening. In this
world full of complex networks of problems, where should the people start?... Show more content

After dropping out from graduate school, he spent his life in community organizing. He was an
organizer in the Congress of Industrial Organizations and more active in the Back of the Yards
where the poor people in Chicago are residing. Also, he organized the community of African
American ghettos in the same state. Also, he did not just focus in Chicago but travelled further in
California, Michigan, New York, etc. Because of his passion in helping the oppressed people in the
community, he was considered as the Father of Community Organizing. On 1972, Saul Alinsky
died by a sudden heart attack in Carmel, California. In an interview by Playboy Magazine a few
months before his death, he said that he would choose to be in Hell in because he would
organize the Have Nots who are less virtuous in there, his kind of people. In the society today,
radical is associated with an extremist or leftist, terrorist, and etc. A radical person is someone
who disrupts the stability and peace in the society. In relation with the book, I cannot understand
before on why Alinsky should use a community organizer as a personification of a radical person.
A radical is somewhat negative to be used as a community organizer. It is like community
organizer is peace while radical is disorder. However, as I was reading the book, I realized that a
community organizer should be a radical. In the situation today, we just don t need a person who
just organizes a

On Liberty Essay
Analysis amp; Critique of
J.S. Mill s On Liberty
The perception of liberty has been an issue that has bewildered the human race for a long time. It
seems with every aspiring leader comes a new definition of liberty, some more realistic than others.
We have seen, though, that some tend to have a grasp of what true liberty is. One of these scholars
was the English philosopher and economist J.S. Mill. Mill s On Liberty provided a great example of
what, in his opinion, liberty is and how it is to be protected. In this essay we will examine Mill s
ideals concerning liberty and point out a few things he may not have been realistic about.

Not to silence them in favor of having no opposition. All that is accomplished by this is the
handicapping of society, for it is true in every aspect of life that the only way to improve is to go
against opposition and to learn from it. Along these lines it would make sense that the most
important ideas out there are the unpopular ones because these are the issues that are being
neglected.
The protection of this quot;individuality quot; poses a problem. What causes harm and what
ultimately leads to good? When should government step in and when should it let things be?
Knowing where that line is tough. Mill s answer to this is that society has jurisdiction over every
aspect of behavior that, quot;affects prejudicially the interests of others. quot; More specifically
society has no interest in the aspects of one s life that affect only the individual acting, or others,
for that matter, that are affect at their own consent. Society has no right to keep a person from
doing with his life what they wish, and it is stupid to do so their own good for nobody will every
truly know what someone else aspires to do. Though Mill rejects the concept of the social contract
he does believe that people do have obligations to the society in exchange for the protection of their
freedom. And if one acts in a manner that harms the society as a whole then they are subject to
punishment. Not

How Did John Lennon Impact Society
Music has a unique way of impacting our lives. It often makes us wonder what inspired the artist
to say what he or she said and why they chose to put it together that way. Certain artists are
capable of leaving a lasting legacy that people pass on from generation to generation. It is easier
for one to become influenced by an artist s work if they are exposed to it at a younger age. More
often than not, people will gravitate towards a certain artist because they can find a way to
connect with the writer. The ability to decipher, process and think deeply about an artists lyrics
in order to find the meaning behind them is key to unlocking the impactfulness of the song.
Although not considered a traditional Beatles song, John Lennon is well known for his song
Imagine and the impact it had on society. LIFE OF LENNON Lennon was born in Liverpool,
England on October 9, 1940 to parents Fred and Julia. After his mother died when he was 17
years old, John started a band named The Quarrymen. With a few additions to the group, they
eventually were known as The Beatles. Although graced with numerous Number One hits, they
ended up splitting in 1970 (Laurie Ulster). This was the start of John Lennon s solo career. He and
his wife, Yoko Ono, were most productive in 1917... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Case Study Deere Company
Deere Company Case Study 1. How strong are the competitive forces confronting Deere in the
global market for agricultural and construction equipment? Supplier Power: Deere was able to
keep its competition from driving supply chain prices up by being able to develop their own
supply chains. The company opened manufacturing plants both domestically and internationally
that were specifically designed to manufacture different parts. With these plants being Deere
plants this has enabled the company to have no need to rely on external suppliers and has been
able to rely on itself. Buyer Power: As of 2013 Deere Company owned the largest market share of
agricultural and forestry equipment. The company has been able to create strong brand loyalty
through the Deere color selection and the specific fit of all parts and pieces. Competitive Rivalry: It
would appear that Deere Company has set itself apart from all potential competitors. They have
created an extremely unique brand that has attracted consumers away from potential competitors
and really has been able to put them in a segment of their own. Threat of Substitution: Their
products and colors separate Deere from its competitors. The company has always looked to support
farmers and owners of their equipment with the goal of making owners of other equipment wish
that they had bought a Deere. Threat of New Entry: Overall there is not a great barrier to new entry
but because of the stiff competition at the top new entrants have had struggles. 2. How have Deere s
business strategy choices strengthened or weakened its competitive position in the agricultural and
construction equipment industries? Deere Company since the beginning has always aimed to
support owners of their equipment and to make owners of any other equipment wish that they had
purchased a Deere instead. Their approach to business has truly set themselves apart from their
competition and has left a strong impression on both their consumers and their competition. The
fact that Deere since the beginning has always looked to produce the highest quality of equipment
has positioned them at the top of the industry. Deere Company looks to understand the challenges

Hollywood Whitewashing In Hollywood
The new term Hollywood Whitewashing has become popular among bloggers and critics alike .
According to the Wikipedia Definition whitewashing is a casting practice in the film industry of
the United States in which white actors are cast in historically non white character roles. The film
industry has a history of frequently casting white actors for roles involving people of color,
including African Americans, Asians, Hispanics, and any other Non white, non Hispanic culture,
including Native Americans. (WIKI) Once you have your eyes open to this phenomenon, it is very
easy to see roles being switched in many popular blockbuster hits. It seems that in filmmaking and
storytelling, the story teller can use actors that don t fit the charactersimply because they are well
known celebrities. Specifically, the casting of Asian Americans in film, is very minimal and is
strongly apparent by the casting of Caucasian actors or actresses to portray an Asian character.
There are two movies in particular that come to mind when looking at the issue of asian race
representation in Hollywood. The first movie that I believe is a textbook example of
whitewashing of an asian character, is the Paramount Pictures production of Ghost in the Shell .
The other movie that I would like to address and pick apart in regards to miscasting of an Asian
character is Marvel s Doctor Strange; in particular the casting of Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One
(a historically asian character). Are the

A Rose For Emily Grierson s Life Essay
Being that I am an only child, I am very family oriented. When I was young, I lost my
grandfather to esophageal cancer. As a result, I shut everyone out of my life, so I would not get
close to anyone and have them taken away from me as well. The protagonist, Emily Grierson, in
the short story A Rose for Emily, has shut everyone out of her life due to the deathof her loved one,
just as I did. Crystal s essay, One for us... describes how Grierson s community would not accept
her private life, and they turn her personal life into a public conversation. According to Willow
D. Crystal, William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily suggests the relationship between private and
public can have an effect on one s life. I agree, but I would add that the power of death may lead
to insanity. I agree with Crystal s argument that Grierson s community shows no separation
between the private and public life regarding Emily Grierson s life. For example, as stated in One
for us... , Miss Emily s house begins to emit an unpleasant smell, the town officials decide to solve
the problem by dusting her property with lime (792). This intrusion reveals that the town s officials
have no respect for Grierson s personal life. To show that the officials respect her privacy, they
should have inquired about how they could assist with containing the odor, rather... Show more

The English Street Artist Banksy
The English street artist Banksy has produced various works of art, in a revolutionary style.
Street art is visual and it is produced in public areas on buildings, bridges , concrete , and many
other places. This form of art is usually done illegally, which adds to the immense controversy it
already possesses, due to its subject matter. With that being said, it speaks volumes about artists
such as Banksy, who risk criminal charges of vandalism, in order to empower others through his art.
One of his popular pieces, Looters , historically commemorated the third anniversary of Hurricane
Katrinain New Orleans, boldly criticizing government, media, racism and other significant issues.
In 2005, the city became a war zone and many were left with questions; the image poetically
raised awareness to aspects of post Katrina recovery that are still being discussed till this day. For
the short time it existed as an untampered image on Elysian Fields Avenue, it managed to create a
lasting impression that will exist decades after its removal.
Due to Banksy s pictorial and satirical messages which blend themes of Capitalism, politics, greed,
and hypocrisy, an unknown identity is a great thing to have. In the early 1990s, Banksy began his
distinguished career; the fact that his identity has been successfully hidden for two decades
incorporates mystery into the art. He is undoubtedly the most controversial street artist to emerge on
the global stage, Banksy s work has been rumored to

The Immigration Of The United States
Many immigrant children are coming from different countries to the US and entering schools here
that do not provide them with the support they need in order to be successful. Schools in America
that accept these immigrant children in their school should provide more support to them.
Newcomers should have a counselor that could help them with problems in school such as Bullying
and discrimination. Also school districts should invest money in special programs that could focus
on these children to help them succeed academically in school. Context Tens of thousands of
children are fleeing the violence in their countries, coming to the U.S. The rate of immigrant
children started increasing from 2012, but in 2014 there was a drastic change on the number of
immigrant children entering the country. 2014 has been the year in which most children have
entered the country due to the increase of violence and poverty in their foreign countries. This
children are mostly coming from Mexico, Central America, South and East. After getting into the
US this children are sent to school by their parents or some others do not even have parents. In the
website Golden Door scholars, it identifies the amount of immigrants students in the US and how
many of these students will make it to college. The author writes, There are approximately 1.1 1.4

  • 3. Explain Why I Want To Be An Obstetrician Have you thought about your career in the future? Most people in my school know what they want their career for them to be. For example, my cousin who is now a senior, decided that he wanted to go to the military, like many other young men. Even I, a twelve year old girl, knows and planned what she wants to do in the future. I will try really hard to become obstetrician, a type a doctor who delivers babies. The reason for my choice is because of many things about them except the money. That is why I always try really hard in school and it pays off. I chose my career, now it is your turn. One of the reasons I want to be an obstetrician is because I, as any other person, admire there work. I do not care how much money I will get paid because the only reason I want to be an obstetrician is because I have always admired them because they are the people who help bring new life into our world. They also delivered me, and my whole family so I should be thankful for that. If it was not for them I would not have been on this world and neither would other people and that would not be a happy world. I also admire them because at any time, and ... If I am proud just doing that cannot imagine how I will feel when I complete my career in the future. I will be satisfied with the care I give my patients because I as a doctor worked really hard just to deliver a little human being and made my patients happier by giving them a new person in the family. • 4. The Effects Of Electroconvulsive Therapy On Other Forms Of... INTRODUCTION I am going to be examining Electroconvulsive Therapy, which is used to treat severely depressed people, as well as other forms of psychological disorders. I m focusing only on how this therapy is used to treat major depression, because although depression is the most treatable mental illness, it is still the one we all suffer from the most. This therapy uses electrical currents to re charge the neurotransmitters in the brain, allowing these neurotransmitters to function efficiently, restoring the chemical imbalance in the Adrenal and Thyroid systems; which is often found in patients with severe depression. This therapy is better known through the media as shock therapy. Sounds scary, but it s very safe and has been proven to help save people suffering from this often unbearable, mood disorder. POPULATION People most at risk for depression are ones who have had something terrible happen to them at some point in their lives. It could be the loss of a loved one, getting fired or laid off from a job, or finding out that your husbands been lying and cheating with your good friend. Developing major depression also increases if you re a heavy drug user or alcoholic, and if someone in your family has had these same thoughts and feelings. If a family member has a mood disorder, studies show a significant increase that s over double the likely hood, of developing these distorted thoughts. Researchers also found that people between the ages of 25 44 years old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Bibliography Of Heady Lamarr Part 1: The Bibliography of Heady Lamarr Hedy Lamarr was born Hedwig Maria Eva Kiesler in Vienna, Austria on November 9, 1914 to Emil and Gertrud Kiesler. According to several sources Hedy was extremely spoiled by her father as he doted on her constantly and encouraged her love of scientific exploration, conversely her mother Gertrud was reportedly much sterner with Hedy. According to Hedy and her family, Hedy s goal was always to be an actress so it was no surprise to her contemporaries when she dropped out of school to join the theater. It s important to note that the theater was a well respected well attended media outlet in Vienna at that time, the culture of Vienna was accepting and often based on the philosophy and biases expressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is how Hedy gained the knowledge necessary to work with George Antheil in the development of the Secret Communication System . The biggest issue for Hedy while she was married to Friz was that she was not allowed to work, she described her marriage to him as Being kept in the Gilded Cage and she eventually had to escape the marriage and flee to Paris. This is where she eventually met up Louis B Mayer, a talent scout in Europe, who helped her move to America, change her name to Hedy Lamarr, and begin her Hollywood career. Furthermore interesting is that after Hedy patented her invention, the Navy denied to use it; stating that it just took up too much space onboard their already over packed ships. But Hedy had a will to help with the war efforts, so she went on a campaign to sell war bonds through the influence of her celebrity status. After which she continued her film career for a total of 33 movies [3], raised three children one of which she adopted, and married and divorced five more times. Hedy eventually died on January 19, 2000 in her home in Casselberry, FL, ironically enough she spent most of her last few years in seclusion only communicating with her family via a cellphone, the very technology her invention helped create. • 7. Cabaret For A Cure Essay Cabaret for a Cure ABC!! It s easy as 123! Or as simple as Do, Re, Mi! Cabaret for a cure is a nonprofit organization which I have been a part of for the past two years. We perform a show, have a dinner, hold a tricky tray and all the money goes to a child in need. We perform in a banquet hall, on a little stage, in front of hundreds of people, and I love it. They have been doing it for ten years and have helped so many families. The people are super nice and they show you how it all happens. This year I got to be a bigger part of this show. I got to be around adults who have been singing and entertaining for years and it made me want to do it even more. By being a bigger part of it, I got to witness the change you make just by singing. When I sang the Jackson 5 medley with Kelly, everyone was out of their seats dancing and within those 3 hours of having fun and being around such nice people, it was like there was no bad in the world and everyone was happy.... The speaker is walking on a road (which back then would have been an equivalent of a walking track today). The road is splitting into two directions, and the speaker needs to choose which way they will go. Now, this path has two meanings. • 11. Narrative Voice In Lot s Wife The depiction of the characters is a vital aspect of Szymborska s works. This is notable in the poems Lot s Wife and The Terrorist, He s Watching (see Appendix 1). This depiction of the characters is influenced by many literary techniques, one being narrative voice. Narrative voice can be defined as the eyes the reader sees a story through. This is separated into three distinct types: first, second and third person. First person is typically told from the perspective of the main character, second personaddresses the main character as you and third person refers to the characters as he or she. Third person can either be omniscient; knowing an unlimited amount of information about all characters, events and conflicts in the story, or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem commences with a third person narrative voice. This persona describes the terrorist as enjoying the moment, The terrorist has already crossed the street. / The distance keeps him out of danger, / and what a view just like the movies: (5 7). By describing the situation as movie like, it shows that the terrorist values his life over others as he situates himself at a distance where he can observe safely. This idea is also expressed through the fact that the language is factual, observational and unemotional, conveying the emotional detachment of the terrorist towards the pain and suffering he will inflict. The use of language in this is vastly different to that of Lot s Wife with the contrast of emotional language and factual language. The descriptions of the individuals are detached with mundane characteristics, such as the crummy gloves (26), only being mentioned. This creates the sense that these individuals are less important than him, showing that the terrorist looks down on them. Throughout the piece, there is a sense of dramatic irony, with the terrorist knowing something that the people entering and exiting the bar don t. This introduces the idea that the terrorist perceives this situation as comedic. This idea is continued with the use of time intervals marking the countdown of the detonation. ... • 13. Equality In Early Generations In The United States Earlier generations who migrated from other countries that came to start a new life had many things to accomplish. At the start of the migration, people and settlers came for a new beginning and also a fresh start at life itself. With that tough task at hand, it also came with a price, such as equality, fighting for rights, the constant need for change and following a movement. During this essay I will be able to shed some light and point of views on equality on generations, political pressure, engaging in strikes and the division in social classes. In earlier generations, equality was not a topic that was very popular. If you were born into a poor family, chances are that you yourself were going to fall into that blood life for decades... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the bosses are corrupt and control the majority of how things operate, then there is no voice among the poor and middle class people. If they are employing me 80 90 percent of my day and not letting me or my people utilize the public subways or common things that everyone else is, they are essentially trying to contain us, so that we are so unprivileged and exhausted we wouldn t put up a fight. They are also limiting us in giving us access to what was once considered public . The social classes are divided in this perspective, if you knew or know someone of power them you belonged and if you didn t, then in turn you were looked down upon as someone with no rights. In conclusion the equality of earlier generations was really never established until people began to rebel and make it noticeable. A strike would only be necessary if the bosses where not corrupt and not control the public uses of everything that was once common. Finally, with the division of social classes would have change if at the beginning of time there wasn t any one person in control and corrupt, using their power in their ... He kept on trying to promote his idea around the world. He died due to stomach cancer in Paris on September 5. His great work made him the Father of sociology. And right after August Comte there was another person with the exact opposite idea about sociology. William George Spencer s son Herbert Spencer was born in Derby, England on April 27, 1820. George Spencer was a revolt of the circumstances and developed in Herbert a hostile to dictator demeanor. George, as his father was kenned, was the progenitor of a school that used unconventional edifying methods and was a contemporary of Erasmus Darwin, grandfather of Charles and also George focused Herbert s early edification on science and he was introduced to philosophical cerebrating through George s membership in the ... My Counseling Goals My first goal was to be able to use basic counseling skills within my counseling sessions and working on learning more about creating appropriate treatment plans on my own. I did quite a bit of reading of books, such as treatment planners and also met with both of the Post Docs at my site to learn how they approach treatment planning. I was able to get some good insight on how my approach may differ from others and that this is okay. I learned that in this journey it is very important to know what theoretical orientation you are using to think about change. The expected outcome was that I would understand the process group dynamics and the 11 curative factors further. I have done so this far and am continuing to better understand what it would mean to track group experience in my current research project at the clinic. Most of the things that were on the planet were rocks. The most common type of rock was Isua greenstone. Most rocks have been eroded away, subducted, or metamorphosed. During this time, the atmospheres and oceans were formed, plate tectonics began to build up continental masses. The air during this time was mostly made up of water vapor, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. Later on, oxygen was formed from early animals taking in carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Throughout the Ordovician, Gondwana was submerged underwater. This period is best known for its animals, including graptolites, trilobites, brachiopods, and the conodonts. Plants invaded the land during this period. The most recent types of like animal was tetrahedral spores that are similar to land plants have been found, suggesting that plants invaded the land at this time. Later during the period, the Earth experienced a milder climate; the weather was warm and the atmosphere contained a lot of moisture. Although, when Gondwana finally settled on the South Pole, massive glaciers formed, and caused shallow seas, and sea levels to drop. This most likely caused extinctions at the end of the Ordovician in which 60% of all marine invertebrate genera and 25% of all families went extinct. The ecosystems was still dominized by algae and sponges, and in some cases by bryozoans. However, there apparently were also periods of complete reef collapse because to global disturbances. Prevalence of diabetic neuropathy is high, affecting more than 60% of diabetics (Boulton et al., 2005). It leads to significant morbidity, impact on quality of life of patients (Zychowska et al.) and increases the risk of infections leading to the foot ulcers and non traumatic amputations (Bansal et al.). PARP activation leads to inactivation of AMPK which facilitates mitochondrial biogenesis. Thus, PARP activation compromises the cellular mitochondrial genesis which leads to accumulation of damaged mitochondria in the cell. Molecular studies have revealed the involvement of transcriptional regulators such as Nrf2, NF ОєB, and COX 2 inflammatory cascade in the pathology of diabetic neuropathy. • 21. Puppy Mills Have Been Notorious For Keeping The Puppy... Puppy mills have been notorious for keeping the puppy trade industry alive and as big as it is today. With thousands of puppy mills, both known and under the radar, they provide easy access and cheap puppies to sell at pet stores at inflated prices. While they do keep the business booming and keep pure breeds that may specialize in important roles, they continue to put countless numbers of dogs through terrifying pain. To stop the agonizing torture the lovable pups go through, stricter rules must be applied to these puppymills, a new license regulation must be used, regular inspections, and awareness of alternative options must be made. With already set regulations on puppy mills, people say there is no reason to have any additions on the rules. There is a kennel license, which restricts how many dogs someone can have depending on how much square footage of land he or she owns. This regulates the amount of dogs that can be held for breeding and to keep the area clean and safe enough for all the dogs involved. People are required to go through a moderately long process to achieve their license, to ensure that these dogs will be okay. Puppy mills are also known for keeping pure breed numbers up, such as beloved German shepherds, poodles, Welsh Pembroke corgis, and Labradors. Having mixed breeds can be healthier of course but as Sofia Jeppsson had said in her article Purebred Dogs and Canine Wellbeing, However, in the long run such a strategy would severely deplete the ... Transgender veterans or personnel need medications and maybe some surgery which cost quite a sum of money that gets passed to the government to pay (West). The government should not be paying for transition surgery or medications, due to it being the taxpayers money(West). People that are transgender should be able to pay for their own hormones and surgeries because other transgender people not in the military do so(West). In many ways too they could be disqualified for the medications and the surgery before entering the armed forces (Allen). Student centered means not following a pre determined curriculum, and giving a voice to the student with regard to their learning goals. Teaching adults is not the same as teaching children. Materials must be sensitive and respectful of adult learners, and because adults face so many challenges in their daily lives, the learning must be relevant and meaningful. In the 1920s, a hypothesis was created by scientists Alexander Oparin and J.B.S. Haldane, that predicted that the first life forms were formed in an acidic primordial sea. Oparin believed that a string of of chemical reactions within an aquatic environment had led to the formation of coacervates. Coacervates are aggregates of organic polymers that have life like characteristics, but are not alive. When Oparin created coacervates, he used a couple different solutions of macromolecules to form these aggregates, and he discovered that the coacervates had a selectively permeable membrane. The IMF is governed and accountable to the 189 countries that make up the global membership of the organization. These goals make up the IMFs formal rules, the informal rules allow more access for powerful countries, such as the United States and Germany, to set their foreign policy goals through the facade of the IMF. The United States and other powerful nations like Germany, operate on a constraint conditionality that allows them to influence countries based upon their Western ideals and practices of democracy. • 36. Physics Of Running Research Paper The Physics of Running Running uses many different laws of physics. Some specific laws or principles are Law of Pendulum; Newton s First, Second, and Third Laws; velocity; acceleration; and friction. In our project, we will focus specifically on Newton s three laws, the Law of Pendulum, and velocity. Running is defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary as to go faster than a walk; specifically : to go steadily by springing steps so that both feet leave the ground for an instant in each step. This project will explain how the aforementioned laws pertain to the physics of running. Those involved in running sports, for example track and long distance runners, could benefit greatly from the study of physics in running. They could apply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Velocity is the rate of change of an object s position and is a function of time. You can find the speed that someone goes by knowing how far they went and how long it took them to get there. The equation used to find velocity is v=d/t; v is velocity, d is distance traveled, and t is time. Someone who runs the 3200m in 12 minutes runs at an average speed of 266.67 m/min. For a runner who wants to improve their time in a race, they need to cover more distance per minute. To achieve running an 11 minute 30 second 3200m a person would run at an average pace of 278.26m/min. This is found by using the same equation v=d/t. This is used to find average velocity for the race. Many runners do not keep the same speed in a race, especially in a 3200m race. At the end of a race a runner will speed up to as fast as they ... However, it appears that the intent of the United States has changed over time. Instead of helping Japan in the years after WWII, the United States used Japan as a pawn to better its own interests. In 1946, General MacArthur the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP) asked United Statescitizens to take the responsibility of writing a new constitution for Japan. There was not a single Japanese person asked to help with the constitutions development. This made it so that the Japanese identity could not fully be seen within the constitution. The focus of the constitutional meetings were not to create a newer better Japan, but to create an image of the United States in the Pacific Ocean. To better manifest this image, the Unites States decided that it would be best if Japan remained militarized. This demilitarization came in the form of Article 9, which stated that Japan could not have an armed military force for forever. Without an army of their own, the United States implemented their own troops and negotiated for there to be permanent bases in Japan; a constant reminder of the influence and power of the United States. Once the constitution was implemented, Japan began to change, however many of these changes were because of a United States backing. One can see these changes if they look to the media of the time. Some of these bubbles have happened in the last ten years and some have happened in the last three hundred years. One of the most interesting bubbles that I read about was The South Sea Bubble . The South Sea Company in England was formed in 1711 to create confidence in the government s ability to meet its debts and promises. This company took a government debt (IOU) for ten million pounds. In return, the government was given monopoly over all trade to the South Seas (Malkiel, Page 41). People thought there would be a lot of opportunity to make money during this time. In 1720, the entire national debt, which was thirty one million pounds, was capitalized. The stock rose from 130 pounds to 300 pounds when the bill was introduced to Parliament. After bill became the law, the South Sea Company sold a new issue of stock at 300 pounds. There were fights that broke out by investors who wanted to purchase this new stock price at a proposed installment offer. • 39. Consolation Behavior Should Be Observed Outside Of Species... Consolation behavior entails as an increase in comforting contact in response to and directed toward a distressed individual by an uninvolved bystander, which produces a calming effect (Zahn Waxler et al., 1992; De Waal Van Roomalen, 1979). Observations of consolation behavior in animals such as elephants have led to the conclusion that consolation behavior may require advanced cognitive capacities (Plotnik De Waal, 2014). However, the current study sought to investigate if consolation behavior could be observed outside of species with advanced cognition, such as in a rodentspecies. Such an observationwould suggest that consolation behavior relies on less cognitive capacities and may be variably expressed in species due to their species specific evolutionary context (Burkett et al., 2016). Researchers decided to use the rodent species of the prairie vole and the meadow vole in their study. This was done because the social traits of the prairie vole, i.e. being socially monogamous and biparental, often coevolve with other cooperative behaviors that increase direct or indirect fitness, including social buffering among colony members (Burkett et al., 2016). The meadow vole, in contrast, are promiscuous breeders with no formal social structure. Thus, Burkett and colleagues offered the following three hypotheses. Firstly, they hypothesized that if both voles are placed under reproducible laboratory conditions, then the prairie vole will show consolation behavior while the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Consumer Behavior And Consumer Behaviour Introduction A consumer is any person that is involved in the process of consumption. They are identified according to the market type to which they belong, namely final and industrial consumers (Solomon, et al., 2013). Understanding the consumer behaviors will aid in appreciating the various market segments and developing strategies for effecting market penetration in these segments. It will also help in identifying market gaps and shape their needs and objectives so as to solve the day to day consumer s concerns in purchase. The single purpose of all production is consumption. The producer s interest should only be attended to as far as it is necessary in promoting the needs of a consumer (Smith, 1937 p. 125). Studies on consumer behavior began in the 1960s, and later several consumer theories which focused on the consumer from various perspectives were developed. Marketers use these theories to deveop marketing strategies based on attitudes, interests and consumer perception. Consumer behavior theories All major consumer theories can be grouped into four categories, namely economic, psychological, psycho analytical, and socio cultural theories. They are based on the simple law of conumption that consumption increases as aggregate income increases, assuming the habits of spending are constant and political and economic conditions are free and perfect (Solomon, et al., 2013). Economic theories Economic theories on consumption are focused on how income is allocated and how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The protection of this quot;individuality quot; poses a problem. What causes harm and what ultimately leads to good? When should government step in and when should it let things be? The first movie that I believe is a textbook example of whitewashing of an asian character, is the Paramount Pictures production of Ghost in the Shell .
