Thomas Edison Essay
Crafting an essay on the life and achievements of Thomas Edison may present a unique set of
challenges. While Edison's contributions to the field of innovation and technology are vast, the
difficulty lies in distilling his multifaceted legacy into a coherent and engaging narrative.
Researching his numerous inventions, experiments, and entrepreneurial ventures requires sifting
through an extensive array of historical documents, biographies, and scholarly articles.
One must navigate the complexities of Edison's personal life, exploring how his upbringing and
experiences shaped his inventive spirit. Addressing controversies and criticisms surrounding his
methods and business practices adds another layer of complexity to the essay. Balancing
admiration for his groundbreaking work with a nuanced discussion of the less savory aspects of
his career requires a careful and thoughtful approach.
Furthermore, the challenge extends to presenting a fresh perspective on a well-documented
subject. Countless essays and articles have been written about Thomas Edison, making it
essential to avoid regurgitating widely known facts. Instead, the essay should strive to offer a
unique insight or perspective that captivates the reader's attention.
Organizing the essay coherently is also crucial. Structuring the content in a way that flows
seamlessly, from Edison's early life to his later inventions and impact on society, demands careful
planning and execution. Maintaining a balance between providing sufficient detail and avoiding
overwhelming the reader is an art in itself.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on Thomas Edison is a challenging task that requires extensive
research, a nuanced approach to his life and legacy, and the ability to present a fresh perspective
on a well-explored subject. However, overcoming these challenges can result in a compelling
narrative that sheds new light on the life of one of history's most influential inventors.

eBay should keep a close eye on threats to their company and do what they can to
make them opportunities for change.
Conclusion By implementing their business model, eBay employed three main
tactics. First, they looked to build strategic partnerships, such as PayPal and
Half.com. Second, they looked for customer feedback to constantly make changes and
improvements. Finally, they monitored of their internal and external environments
for possible opportunities. By initiating all of these tactics, eBay is able to adapt to
the changing ways while keeping their customers satisfied. To be successful eBay
must continue to mold and change their business model to satisfy customers and keep
the level of quality they employ to the highest degree possible. If eBay is able to
work these ideas into their everyday business life, they will continue to be successful.
Furthermore, eBay must continue to improve its level of service, strengthen
community trust and safety, increase system reliability, enhance website features and
functionality, and broaden the company s trading platform by growing existing
product categories and promoting new product categories in order to cope with
competitive pressures and maintain its existing customers and attract new ones.
Finally, they can expand their market to the growing population of older generations
by making their websites more attractive by catering to
War On Drugs And Drug Trafficking
Organized crime is destructive to all countries it effects. In terms of the United States,
it is plagued by human trafficking, drug trafficking, and weapons trafficking. One of
the most harmful organized crimes is drug trafficking. What makes drug trafficking
organized is the system of production to distribution. Drugtrafficking organizations
have a hierarchy of power from the kingpins to the couriers. Drug also has political
influence they are able to bribe and blackmail politicians. Trafficking drugs is a multi
billion dollar business, and the United States is one of its largest markets. Drug
trafficking is defined as the selling, transportation, and illegal import of unlawful
controlled substances, such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin,... Show more content on

Some immigrants are even recruited, they do this because drug smugglers fund
their way into the United States. So many people are desperate to get out of
Mexico they risk their freedom. In recent news, their was also an American man
who used a drone to smuggle drugs over from Mexico to California. He was carrying
fifty thousand dollars worth of cocaine. Although I do believe the border should be
protected, I don t agree building a wall will stop drug trafficking from Mexico.
Before the transportation of narcotic there is an extensive production process. For
example, cocaine production begins in the forest of Colombia. Colombia produces
over half the world s cocaine. They pay farmers to produce the cocoa leaf and
transform it into a paste then a powder. Growing cocaine is just as risky as smuggling
it. To combat the growth of the cocoa leaf, Colombian drug enforcement destroy the
cocoa farms. They light farms on fire to deter famers from growing it. Law
enforcement is not the only danger in drug trafficking. Drug cartels leaders are brutal,
and enforce their rule through murder. For example, if people don t want to
participate in they just remove the people putting fear in the entire community.
Organized crimes can fund each other. Drug trafficking increases weapons
trafficking because weapons are needed to protect and enforce the drug trade. So as
the need for drugs rises, the need for weapons will rise to creating a cycle of

Symbolism In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
Analyze how an issue or idea challenged you to alter or develop your ideas
Where men can t live Gods fare no better.
In the Pulitzer Prize Winning novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy, an important
idea is the theme of humankind and our spiritual nature. In a post apocalyptic
world, seemingly abandoned by God, we are shown different ways people react.
Some people opt out of any form of morality or faith, believing God is dead. There
are also people like the mother, who kills herself because she believes there is no
point in trying to survive in this world. The father on the other hand struggles to
survive, whilst existentially focusing on protecting his son, who is his own vision of
goodness and virtue. The son takes an existential approach ... Show more content on

McCarthy shows us a world where many people take a nihilistic approach, and live
life without morals, trying solely to survive. Others commit suicide, because life in
this world would be too meaningless. However, the man s love for the boy pushes
him to keep living, although with limited morals that extend to protecting his son.
The son is portrayed as a good, incorruptible character, who sticks to his morals. He
is McCarthy s return to God without religion. In The Road, McCarthy poses an
important question to the reader: What really lies at the heart of humankind and
our spiritual nature? In a state of disaster, would you abandon faith and/or belief in
a God, or would you find reasons to keep on living? This idea could be related to
historic events, such as the Black Death outbreak of 1348, when peoples views of
religion changed drastically. Society fell apart as many people lived recklessly,
abandoning religion because they began to believe there could not be a God, or he
would have put an end to this misery. Many people committed suicide, as it seemed
better than living in fear, waiting for the disease to strike. Much changed in the
following years, including a rise in humanism as people s views of religion changed.
However, Christianity still survives today, and in The Road,

Use Of Substitution Ciphers And Transposition Ciphers

Question 6 1: Write a one half page description of the use of substitution ciphers and
transposition ciphers. Use the rot13 encoding algorithm to encode the following
sentence: It is critical for network administrators to understand cryptography.
There are several websites that will encrypt in rot13.
Answer 6 1: Substitution ciphers are a method of encryption by which units of
plaintext are substituted with ciphertext according to a regular system; the units
may be single letters (the most common), pairs of letters, triplets of letters,
mixtures of the above, and so forth (WordNik, 2014). In other words, if you re
sending a message (plaintext) you want to keep secret, it can be transformed into
an enciphered message (cipertext) using a different alphabet. The person receiving
the message will then have to decrypt it. Transposition cipers are simple data
encryption schemes in which plaintext characters are shifted in some regular
pattern to form ciphertext (Gustavus, 2014). In other words, it s a simpler way to
send secret messages; however, it isn t as secure and can be decrypted easily. For an
example, I have encrypted the following phrase using rot13 encryption: It is critical
for network administrators to understand cryptography. I was returned with: Vg vf

Critique Of The Nutcracker
On November 25, 2017 I attended The Nutcracker ballet performance at the
Eisemann Center. The dance was adapted from a story by E.T.A Hoffman with the
music by Tchaikovsky. The show was a faithful adaptation of The Nutcracker with the
dancers, costumes, sets, and Tchaikovsky s music all playing an integral part in
depicting the story in an entertaining way. Overall, the presentation was successful in
portraying the holiday classic that is The Nutcracker, and the majestic sets and
costumes along with the music allowed for sustained attention and spectacle that was
still true to the narrative of The Nutcracker. The production did this by having grand,
bright costumes and sets that resembled the time period of The Nutcracker and
depicted the setting of the dances, the original music by Tchaikovsky which was able
to produce the emotions that come with the story, and lighting techniques that
showed the weather and time of day which helped show what scenes were being told
throughout the performance. While observing this dance ballet, there were many
things that caught my attention. First, the theater itself was extremely large, and the
stage itself was big, and the dancers had plenty of room to move across the stage
and perform their routines. There were many dancers, and they all played various
roles that ranged from Clara, Fritz, Herr Drosselmeyer, the Rat King, the Nutcracker,
the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, and many more. All of the performers wore
vivid costumes

Social Support Networks Lowering The Risk For Depression
Social Support Networks Lowering the Risk for Depression in Young Mothers
Introduction
Young mothers, those under the age of 25, are a special group of women. They can
be wonderful parents and love their children as much as older mothers who are more
prepared for their children, however younger mothers can have higher risks for some
issues such as depression. There are some ways that can help lower these risks and
these include increasing social support networks for young mothers.
The Aggregate
The aggregate chosen for this paper is that of young mothers. For the purpose of this
paper young mothers will constitute any mother under the age of 25. The aggregate
of young mothers can be linked to chapter 15, maternal and child health from
Community Health Nursing by Stamler and Yiu (2012). In this group of women
some may be married, some single, some have higher education, and some are high
school dropouts, but they all are under the age of 25 who have one or more children.
The Issue Affecting The Aggregate
One issue that is a concern for young mothers is a lack of social support leading to
an increased risk for depression. The risk of depression for a young mother is
higher than that of the risk for older mothers to develop depression (Lanzi, Bert,
Jacobs, 2009). The risk for depression is a health issue as depression lowers the
mother s warmth and sensitivity towards her child, which links to poorer behavior in
the infant, and also links to the mothers isolating themselves
Treatment Options For Opioid Addiction
Introduction : The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) estimates that 40 to
60 percent of recovering addicts are more likely to relapse .1 Opioid addiction is
defined as a pleasurable compulsive act that some may define as a disease.
Unfortunately, treatment options for opioid addiction requires compliance by the
patient in order to successfully overcome addiction. Probuphine is a new treatment
to manage opioid addiction, which was FDA approved based on the safety and
efficacy phase III clinical trial.
Discussion: Probuphine provides an answer to the continuous increase in opioid user
relapsing with its very distinctive delivery platform. The subdermal implant offers a
continuous drug delivery system providing non fluctuating levels in the blood of
buprenorphine for a period of six months as a single treatment.2 The most common
side effects of probuphine are constipation and implant site reactions. Due to the risk
associated with insertion and removal Probuphine is only available through a Risk
Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program.
Conclusion: Probuphine was designed to treat opioid dependence, providing a stable
delivery platform. As a new and effective therapy, patients have the option of
controlling the withdrawal symptoms eliminating the compliance issue.

Memorable Moments in America in Flags of Our Fathers
by...
Flags of Our Fathers by James Bradley is the chronicle of one of the most
memorable moments in America s military history. James Bradley achieves to
capture in this book, moments of sadness, sorrow, majesty, and immortality of
these six boys that raised the flag at Iwo Jima. The picture that immortalized that
moment tells a story that represents all men that survived and died for America in
that island. James Bradley s quest for answers, for knowledge and for keeping the
honor of these man alive, makes this book a true American History testimony. It
was only the replacement of a flag but it became the most famous picture in
military history. James Bradley s mission to bring these boys back to life, and
forever keep them in the country s memory makes this book an entertaining and
horrifying war tale. The flag raisers as they were called, were just six boys
dreaming with the glory of war and the honor of combat. Unfortunately none of that
was found in 1945 when they landed in the sulfur island of Iwo Jima. Horror and
death were the only common themes in the lives of the men that fought for thirty five
days against a ghost enemy.
The boys made heroes were, John Doc Bradley, Rene Gagnon, Harlon Block,
Franklin Sousley, Mike Strank and Ira Hayes. When the war ended and John Bradley
left the island back to his home, he did not want to talk about Iwo Jima, the boys, the
war or the raising of the flag. Much less of the circus that was created around the
picture that became
Nursing Practices In Australia
Developing countries such as Ethiopia, located in Africa, have a different perspective
and way of implicating nursing practices than nurses in Australia do. According to
The World Bank survey taken in 2010, Australia has 9.6 nurses for every thousand
citizens counted compared to Ethiopia, who has a low 0.2 nurses for every thousand
citizens counted (The World Bank, 2010). These differences in nursing practices
include the availability and maintenance of medical technology to help nurses
achieve the best care for patients, the education standards for nurses and nursing
students, and the quality of the nurses infection prevention practices.
One of the major differences between the nursing practices in Ethiopia and Australia
is the availability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the socio economic status of Ethiopia, they are unable to receive many
technologically advanced pieces of equipment which is sure to help the nurses care
for the patients, although education requirements to be a registered nurse are the
same in both Australia and Ethiopia, those standards of education are far from
similar. A higher degree of education and skills learned is attained when studying in
Australia, which is shown through the length of the nursing degree, and although
both Australia and Ethiopia have very similar nursing guidelines and infection
prevention guidelines, the rules and regulations are put into practice in very different
manners. Prevention of disease and infection is taken more seriously, and is seen as a
very important procedure in Australia compared to Ethiopia. It is important to
provide Ethiopian hospitals with sufficient funding and equipment to properly care
for the sick patients needing medical treatment, which can be provided through
government funding, and also donations and volunteer
Beloved, By Toni Morrison
Toni Morrison the Nobel Prize winning American novelist changed the idea of the
potential impact of slavery in her novel Beloved. Her literary techniques of
flashbacks and switch of narration create an efficient system for her to get her
point across in both subtle and direct ways. Beloved tells the story of Sethe, an ex
slave, her daughter Denver, and Paul D a friend from the past, and how they are all
staying in a house haunted by Sethe s dead daughter Beloved. In this novel, Morrison
insinuates the direct ties between slavery and American history, by not only directly
using slavery and her characters to prove the point, but by also using the relationship
between Sethe and the infanticide she committed as a model of the relationship....

In order to maintain this theme realistically throughout the novel Morrison writes
in the genre of Magical Realism. This genre allows the past to remain connected to
the present, Morrison does this in the only logical way possible a ghost.
Something that represents the past while having a direct impact and presence on
the future. In this case the ghost of Beloved not only represents the spirit of Sethe
s dead baby, but the experience of the Middle Passage as well. Throughout the
novel Beloved makes multiple references that make no connection to the present
plot, but when analyzed connect to the experience of the Middle Passage, where
people who were indigenous to Africa were shipped to America to be used as
slaves. In the end of Part 2 there are chapters of unspoken thoughts from different
character. Chapter 22 is the chapter of Beloved s thoughts this is the area where
she most frequently mentions the Middle Passage. She explains there will never
be a time when [she is] not crouching and watching others who are crouching too
[she is] always crouching the man on [her] face is dead (248). This idea of
crouching is consistent with the fact that slaves were tightly packed on the ships,
and the dead man on her face is parallel to the fact that the slaves were so tightly
packed that live slaves were practically on top of cadavers and vice versa.

Uk
Discuss the main factors affecting product pricing in the UK
Two surveys on the price setting behaviour of UK firms published by the Bank of
England in 1996 and 2008 concluded that the price, the amount of money expected,
required or given for a certain level of output, was most often set as a result of
market conditions1. The same report however found that the second largest price
differential was the objective of the specific firm surveyed1, and thus product pricing
in the UK can be seen to be determined by the interaction between these objectives
and the market structures that bind how firms operate. In the UK these dominant
structures are monopolistic, oligopolistic and perfectly competitive, within which
there are differing degrees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While this does explain only a change in price, not its actual determination, it is
effective in presenting why product pricing under oligopolistic market structure can
be seen to be relatively stable at point P.
That is not to say that firms will not sell their output at different prices in order to
increase market share. In the aforementioned oligopolistic market of tour operators,
3rd degree price discrimination can be practised by charging two sets of consumers
with differing price elasticities of demand for the same product (price elasticity of
demand for the time duration of a holiday becoming more inelastic at around 7 days)
contrasting prices, and thus firms can extract consumer surplus from buyers and
convert this into supernormal profit. This in turn can be used to defend market
position through the cross subsidisation of other markets in which it operates, thereby
artificially altering price and driving competitors out of the market. It must ensure
however, that the cost of separating the two markets is not greater than the profit
made, through the regulation of the resale of flight tickets, for example.
However, there is some debate as to whether Friedman s doctrine of the pursuit of
profit has any relevance to modern day corporations; a recent study by Shipley
Imagery in Night Essay
Imagery can be defined as the ability to form mental images of things or events. The
Holocaust was the careless and brutal massacre of six million Jews by the Nazis,
who were under the rule of Adolf Hitler, during World War II. In the book Night Elie
Wiesel describes his harsh, devastating journey throughout the Holocaustby using
imagery. During the novel Night , Elie vividly describes his experiences
throughout the holocaust when they first arrive at Auschwitz and saw the fire,
when Elie and his convoy arrive at Buna, and during the alert when a man tries to
get an extra ration of soup. First off, a passage that really catches the reader s eye

The reader can sense the strong odor of corpses and burning flesh. The reader can
also see flames slowly arising in the distance along with skeleton like figures
approaching the cattle cars in prison like uniforms. Imagery is very evident in that
passage. Now comes the time when Elie and his convoy arrive at Buna. Another
passage in which Elie uses imagery to make the novel come to life is when Elie
and his convoy arrive at Buna, another camp. Elie and his convoy were being sent
to Buna from Auschwitz. When they arrived at the camp the reader and Elie can
see an almost deserted camp, except for a few wandering prisoners. Elie and the
others were sent immediately to the showers where the head of the camp meet up
with them. He [is] a stocky man with big shoulders, the neck of a bull, thick lips,
and curly hair. He [is] [giving] an impression of kindness (47), Elie said. The reader
can see a big stocky man with curly hair approaching all of the Jews. He has a slight
smile on his face as he approaches the Jews who are all waiting by the showers.
Imagery is very strong in that passage. Next comes the time during the alert when a
man tries to get a extra ration of soup. Finally, one passage in which the reader can
feel like they are at the camp because of imagery is when during the alert, a man is
brave enough to try and get an extra ration of soup. Everyone in the camp was
ordered to go to their barracks and stay
The Origin Of Alcohol As A Alcoholic Beverage Among
The...
Alcohol may be man s worst enemy, but the bible says love your enemy Frank
Sinatra. In chemistry, alcohol is any substance with sugars that have been fermented
(Hirst). Alcohol has been a part of human history for an immense amount of time;
evidence of an alcohol drink in China dates back to 7000 BCE (Hirst). Ancient
Egyptians are cited as having had some form of alcohol(Hirst). Sura was a prominent
Indian alcohol made from rice from 3000 BCE to 2000 BCE (Hirst). Babylonians had
various alcohols and worshipped a goddess of wineand beer by the name of Sidura;
Sidura appears as a character in Gilgamesh, the earliest surviving work of literature
that dates back to 2750 BCE (Hirst). Mead was made from fermented honey and

All of these Christian denominations believed that alcohol was a gift from God, but to
...get drunk with wine, (New International Version, Eph 5.18) was to sin. For the next
few hundred years, alcohol consumption was seen as an act for moderation. The
nineteenth century marks the beginning of a great push for temperance during the
Second Great Awakening; this was founded upon an increased level of alcoholismin
Europe and America during a time of Industrialization that called for the need of
reliable workers (Holt). The Puritan push for temperance became stronger, and in
1826, the Society for the Promotion of Temperance was formed with over five
thousand chapters across the United States; this group was partly responsible for the
implementation of the illegality of buying alcohol in many states on a Sunday
(Indiana is the only state in which this law remains in effect) and for the movement
that preceded the Prohibition in 1920 (Holt). The Prohibition disallowed Americans
to produce, import, transport, or sell alcoholic beverages; it lasted for thirteen years
until the twenty first amendment ended it because of the reaction it sparked (Holt).
In the twenty first century, the minimum drinking age in all fifty states in America is
21 years old. The science of alcohol, the social science of alcohol, and the
international usage of alcohol factor into the controversy of this magic number: 21.

The Cost Of Capital Emerge
According to economic theorist, the problem regarding the cost of capital emerge is
because capital that used to obtain assets create uncertain profits. In perfect capital
market, we assume that firms act rationally; therefore theorist has come out with a
proposition that helps to make the marginal profit on physical assets equal to the
market rate of interest. Two propositions have been introduced and both of them are
assuming that firm, as a rational decision maker under certainty circumstance will
maximize profits and market value of their firm. As an addition, cost of capital will
be equal to the rate of interest of bond and this is applicable for any type of financial
structure. Economic theorist also assumes that firms can be... Show more content on

The traditional theory of finance is that a firm s leverage will affect the firm s market
value. However, Modigliani and Miller declined this theory and claimed that firm
s leverage has no effect on firm s market value. Since the firms are not perfect
substitutes, Modigliani and Miller have derived two basic propositions regarding
relationship of the firm s value and capital structure. The first proposition was
introduced and known as Proposition I. Proposition I claimed that investment
decisions are independent of its capital structure. The average cost of capital will
be equivalent to its capitalization rate of pure income of its own class. It means that
firm cannot change their cost of their capital by either adding or reducing the
financial structure. This means than any changes in the cost of capital will not have
any effect on the financial structure. However, in any cases if Proposition I does
not hold, firm have the ability to put any equivalent leverage for themselves by
borrowing using their personal account. Therefore, in order to prevent it from taking
place, value of levered firm and value of unlevered firm should be equivalent to each
other. there should be no different between levered and unlevered firm. Next, we
move on the Proposition II. Proposition II is the extension of
Essay about Seal Hunting in Atlantic Canada
The annual hunt of harp seals (Pagophilus groenlandicus) in Atlantic Canada is
contested at the start of nearly every season, with celebrities, politicians, and the
public actively weighing in on the matter. Within all of the dialogue and debate, there
can be a lot of bias and misrepresentation of facts advocating for or against the seal

to the sheer amount of controversy surrounding the issue. Sustainability entails

sustained yield principle that does not compromise the harvest for future generations,
and are thus in accordance with sustainable aspects of resource development.
Economic benefits gained from the seal hunt include an increase in trading
relationships for Canada and the stimulation of the provincial economy of
Newfoundland and Labrador. As reported by the Department of Fisheries and
Oceans, the total landed value of the seal harvest for 2006 was $34.3 million
dollars ( Market 1). This figure represents a historic high, when market prices per
pelt were favourable. Regardless, the money brought in from seal hunting is said to
have a trickle down effect on other sectors of the economy ( Market 1). Canada has
historically been the leading exporter of seal products in the global marketplace, and
had exported over $70 million in product between 2005 and 2011 ( Market 1)
Nationally, the seal hunt has enabled Canada to forge new trading relationships in the
international community, as evidenced by a 2011 deal between Canada and China.
The
Kevin Plank Under Armour Essay
Under Armour
1. Under Armour was founded in 1995 by Kevin Plank. Kevin played football at the
University of Maryland and noticed how often he and he s teammates had to change
their undershirts because of all of the sweat they absorbed. The sweat the shirts
absorbed made the shirts much heavier and more uncomfortable. He then noticed that
the compressions shorts he was wearing were not nearing as heavy and didn t absorb
the sweat the shirt did. This one simple observation kick started his experimentation
to develop a t shirt for athletes. He experimented with different fabrics in his
grandmothers basements until he thought he created the perfect shirt. He sent the
shirts to friends that played in the NFL. After receiving feedback, he perfected the
design and made his first deal with Georgia Tech, from there the company took off....

The Use Of Social Media
The rapid use of social media can explain the growing trend of revenge porn
occurrences (Wilson, 2014), as the advances in technology have transformed the
way that sexual violence can be perpetrated (Mcglynn and Rackley, 2017). Due to
the development in mobile phone technology that has become increasingly more
intelligent and complex, cameras are included as a standard feature on most smart
phone models, which allows people to share images and videos with ease in a
matter of seconds. The technological advancements allow a person to take an
incident image, distribute it and coerce a victim all via the use of one tool which
makes it extremely accessible and convenient (McCartan and McAlister, 2012). In

Despite research revealing that revenge porn is a very personal crime that often
leaves its victims feeling emotionally vulnerable (Franks, Citron 2014), a recent
study by Pina, Holland and James (2017) found that ninety nine percent of
participants expressed at least some approval of it, showing little remorse towards
the concept and surprisingly eighty seven percent expressed some excitement
indicating that it may be socially encouraged. It is important to establish why
people show some approval towards this crime and are even excited by it as it may
suggest that it is becoming socially acceptable and perhaps an encouraged norm.
There is also evidence to suggest that victims receive more judgment and blame if
they took an explicit image or video themselves as oppose to without their consent
or knowledge (Najdowski, Hildegrand, 2014). Further evidence of this view comes
from research by Henry, Flynn and Powell (2017) who found that sixty two percent
of people would hold a victim partly responsible if they sent someone an indecent
image of themselves and it ends up online. Bothamley and Tully (2017) studied
factors that influenced victim blaming and found that the relationship between the
perpetrator and the victim did not influence perceptions of victim blame and nor did
the reason for the relationship breakdown, thus the research by Najdowski and
Hildegrand (2014) needs to be further explored to clarify exactly in what context do
Literary Analysis Of The Telephone By Maya Angelou
The poem I chose to perform for the choral reading project is The Telephone by
Maya Angelou. This poem is about a woman waiting for her phone to ring while
all of her neighbors are constantly getting phone calls. The poem has a calm tone
throughout while at the end it becomes extremely angry. The speaker remains the
same throughout the poem, a woman waiting for her phone to ring. However, the
work has an underlying theme of jealousy, as the speaker seeks the phone calls that
her neighbors get. In the performance of this poem the performers made some
choices in order to emphasize the meaning of the poem. The first choice made in
the choral reading regards the tone of the poem. In the first three stanzas the
speaker speaks slowly and calmly. The performer did this in order to emphasize
the emotion that the speaker feels while waiting for the phone to ring, and how
drawn out it feels, which she expresses in the line From Monday, the morning of
the week, / through mid times / noon and Sunday s dying / light. (Angelou 16 19).
In this line she expresses that she has been waiting for the phone to ring forever, so
the readers chose a slow pace to read the poem. At the end of the poem there is a
shift with the line Ring. Damn you! where the tone suddenly becomes angry (24).
For this line the performers chose to scream ot loudly after a pause to represent the
pent up rage and angerthe speaker has towards the phone that won t ring. In the
performance the readers chose to begin with a slow and calm voice and to end with
a loud, screaming voice to represent the tone of the poem.
The next choice made for the performance is to have gestures. The first gesture has
to do with the lines In red and chaperons my life. / Sitting like a strict which
personifies the phone, and where the performer picks up the phone and then put it
down on the word sitting (3 4). The phone is picked up and looked at to represent
the longing for the call and then put down to convey that the call did not come. The
next gesture comes with the lines It tats the day, crocheting / other people s lives / in
neat arrangements / ignoring me where Hannah picks up the phone, wraps the cord
around her arm, detangles it, and then puts the phone
An Analysis of The Thurber Carnival Essay
An Analysis of The Thurber Carnival
The Fables for Our Time contained in Thurber s The Thurber Carnival are, in my
opinion, particularly good examples of a writer successfully breaking frames in
order to create humor and satire. In this essay I am going to explore the main
methods Thurber uses to create humor and satire in the fables The Shrike and the
Chipmunks and The Unicorn in the Garden 2.
Firstly though, what do I mean by the broken frame ? This is a reference to the idea
that the violation of our frames of reference , and the recognition of the incongruity
caused by it, is the basic element of humour. If the incongruity needs to be explained,
the humour will be lost. Kant expresses this idea when he says ... Show more content

To be sure, the female chipmunk had not been gone three nights before the male had
to dress for a banquet and could not find his studs or shirt or suspenders.5
Both of these fables are part of the twist in the tale tradition. They lead the reader into
expecting one type of ending and then provide another, in this case in order to create
a humour.
In The Shrike and the Chipmunks , the lady chipmunk espouses all of those old
wives sayings that are generally considered to be commonsensical. You can t be
healthy if you lie in bed all day and never get any exercise, the chipmunk wife tells
her husband6. The irony here is that by being forced from his bed the male
chipmunk becomes the prey of a shrike. Thurber s twist is that we tend to believe
that the wife s advice is right early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy
and wise , but in the chipmunks case, following this maxim was a death warrant.
The moral at the end provides the final laugh. It is in fact an altered version of the
maxim quoted above. Early to rise and early to bed makes a male healthy wealthy
and dead. 7 It is the familiarity of the one, compared with the changed emphasis of
the other, that breaks the frame of our experience and provokes our laughter. This is
a satirical laugh. The new version of the maxim exposes the unthinking trust we put
in a lot of sayings deserved or not.
The Unicorn in the Garden has a similar
Essay on The Prince vs. the Republic
Machiavelli s criticism of Plato s The Republic states that a ruler who possesses an
inherent quality of that which is consistently good will never have the authority to
rule his or her people successfully. If a ruler always treats his subjects in a manner,
which can be qualified as good, then he will ultimately meet his demise, as his
subjects will rise against him. Machiavelli claims that it is unrealistic to assume that
all the people of a kingdom will conduct themselves in a manner that will be
consistent with the ruling of a good leader. Such republics or principalities do not
exist in reality and are entirely hypothetical situations.

He believes that the knowledge and application of the good will lead to a perfect
state. However, this cannot be said to be realistic, as despite the education of the
good, one s desires will ultimately overcome the need to be good and the state will
collapse. If the rulers are only thinking of the overall good of the state, their own
needs will not be met, which can lead to unhappiness on the part of the rulers and
ultimately to the downfall of the system. Machiavelli implies in his criticism that the
needs of the ruler must be met in order to maintain a stable state, he must trust his
instincts and base desires in order to remain true to himself. If he does not, as Plato
states and does as he ought to, not as he wishes to, then he will be living a lie within
himself and not rule as he should. Without being true to what human nature tells one
to do, an uprising either within the ruler or of the subjects will take place and the
state cannot stay afloat.
As Plato states in the republic the desires of the less respectable majority are
controlled by the desires and the wisdom of the superior minority (Part 5, 431d),
however one cannot suppress all of the desires forever and the people will finally
realize the oppression that they are experiencing and rise against the superior
minority . The minority will not possess the power needed to control the less
respectable

calcium in the cells and stimulation of insulin release. Major drug interactions are
noted between glyburide and
The Treaty Of Versailles Was A Peace Treaty
Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in Austria. Hitler was a German politician
and the leader of the Nazi Party. Adolf Hitler was a decorated veteran from World
War I. The Treaty of Versailles directly affected the German people and Hitler. The
Treaty of Versailles was a peace treaty set in place at the end of World War I
to end the

that the country of Germanyto disarm, take guilt and pay apologies to the other
countries.
The treaty of Versailles did not run well for Hitler and when he became chancellor
in 1933. His Nazi Party became the largest elected party in Germany. After
becoming chancellor, Hitler worked to rebuild their economy and wanted better
living space for the people of Germany. He achieved better living space by killing
all Jews. In 1934 President Von Hindenburg of Germany died and Hitler took power
of the presidency. (www.ushmm.org) The Nazi Party also had summer camps spread
across the country and even the United States to help spread the Nazi word and their
views. The summer camp helped promote the new and rising Germany and the Nazi
party. He put the unemployed to work in public programs, rebuilt the army and sent
Jews, communists and others to concentration camps. (time.com)

A Research Study On Scar Markers
SCAR markers are PCR based primers that represent genomic DNA fragments at
genetically defined loci, that are identified by PCR amplification using sequence
specific oligonuceotide primers (Paran and Michelmore, 1993; Me Dermott et al.,
1994). Inception of SCARs involves cloning the amplified products of arbitrary
marker techniques and then sequencing the 2 ends of the cloned products. The
sequence s therefore used to design specific primer pairs of 15 30 bp which will
amplify single major bands of the size similar to that of the cloned fragment.
The greater the variation in DNA sequence, the easier it is to generate polymorphic
markers. Therefore the plant species used for SCAR development should have
sufficient variation for te traits of interest at both the DNA sequence and
phenotypic levels. Researchers over the years have employed various non sequence
primed PCR markers to develop SCAR markers for the identification of sex in
dioecious species of crop plants.
Chromosomes and its sex determining genes have driven genetic control of sex
determination in dioecious crops. In dioecious crops a vast variability has been seen
in the genetically controlled sex determination and a DNA polymorphism has been
mainly attributed, that are directly involved in expression of particular sexual
phenotpe (Aryal and Ming, 2013). In dioecious crops either one of the crops will be

Taking the sample sensitivity and model specification into account root mean
square error of approximation (RMSEA), incremental fit index (IFI), Tucker Lewis
index or Non normed fit index (TLI or NNFI) and comparative fit index (CFI) are
considered in this study for evaluating fit indices. The grounds for reporting these
indices as fit measures are discussed in the following paragraph.
The RMSEA first developed by Steiger and Lind (1980) tells us how well the model
with unknown but optimally chosen parameter estimates would fit the populations
covariation matrix. In recent years it has been regarded as the most informative fit
indices (Diamantopoulos Siguaw, 2000) due to its sensitivity to the number of
estimated parameters in the model. As it is a parsimony adjusted index it takes into
account the error of approximation which is not affected by sample size and reduces
the stringent requirement on пЃЈ2 that the model holds exactly in the population.
MacCallum, Browne and Sugawara (1996) have used RMSEA values of 0.01,
0.05 and 0.08 to indicate excellent, good and mediocre fit, respectively and 0.10 as
the cut off for poor fitting model. Hulland, Chow and Lam (1996) proposed that
RMSEA values between 0.05 and 0.10 are sometimes considered adequate fit. The
current study uses the RMSEA value below and equal to 0.05 to indicate good fit

children in the pool. We had a winding slide and we use to make up games that
somehow involved going down the slide and diving into the water to find hidden
objects someone else had placed in the pool. Then we sold our house and I really miss
our pool now.
These days, the only time I get to swim is when we are on vacation. We go to the
beaches in the Caribbean several times a year and there s nothing more enjoyable
than heading to the beach and spending the day in the beautiful crystal clear warm

On Tuesday, July 27 1993 in Salamanca Spain, the world of Track and Field was
revolutionized in less than 20 seconds. Not in a 200 meter sprint, but because of a

Analyzing Sotomayor s record breaking jump it can be broken down into four
separate sections. Firstly the initial approach to the breakpoint, breakpoint to the
takeoff, take off to the peak and lastly the peak to the landing. In the initial
approach Sotomayor builds speed for his jump, this speed is used as the initial
horizontal velocity and is maintained by his large bounding strides. When he
begins to break for his takeoff, the speed is farther increased in order to generate
power for his take off. The horizontal velocity is then converted to vertical velocity
by a quick last step and driving his knee upward and outward to create a slight
rotational motion placing the bar behind him. After he is in the air, Sotomayor

Within IGE s 175,500 square foot facility, the company has two 10 foot assembly
lines to package two bowls of cheese dip into a double pack chipboard box. The
individual bowls of cheese shipped from the Berner facility were already coded
with the freshness date. Then IGE used the Videojet 1510 printer to place identical
freshness dates on the chipboard packaging. Since each bowl displays a freshness
date, the chipboard packaging must display both dates, requiring two lines of code if
the dates are different on each bowl. The dates needed to be visible on the box
because they are used to track the cheese dip throughout the supply chain, and to
indicate the expiration date to the consumer.
Initially, we switched our single Videojet printer to different lines to keep up with the
demand created by the two packaging assignments, Miller says. The printer is

Author Information
William Fay began his walk and personal relationship with Jesus Christ in 1981.
Before this, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of a multi million
dollar corporation linked to the Mafia, which was involved in racketeering,
bookmaking and gambling. He also owned one of the largest brothels in the United
States. After receiving Jesus, he went to Bible school and graduated from Denver

contemporary evangelism. He is also a pastor, chaplain and nationally syndicated

Evaluation
As he addresses extensively the subject of evangelism, it appears that Fay is very
confident that is book is well needed due to the sin of silence that has gripped the
Church and the body of Christ, in general. He has a powerful style that uses
examples from his personal life and experiences to shows his reader that it is easy
to share the Gospel. He also uses witnessing examples from the lives of various
Christians to show the readers that they too can share the gospel without fear. He
advocates a simple and non confrontational approach to evangelism and states that
God can use even imperfect attempts to share the Gospel. What God cannot use is the
Christian s silence about the Gospel.
Though many of Fay s examples are success stories, he also gives examples when
non believers do not accept Jesus and states that even where conversion does not
take place, the believer who witnesses is still successful because of his or her
obedience. He argues that evangelism is not about bringing people to Jesus or
winning souls but it is about obedience (p.3). He even implies that success is not to
be measured by the number of people saved but by obedience in acting out our
Christian lives, sharing the gospel and believing God for the results. This
challenges a lot of churches and believers who have fallen in the trap of measuring
their success based on the number of people who have accepted Jesus and yet it is
the Holy spirit who does the work of conversion
Adversity In Slumdog Millionaire
The rags to riches film, Slumdog Millionaire (2008), is a picaresque narrative
about two Indian brothers growing up in one of the largest slum areas in Bombay,
the Dharavi slum. People here are known as slumdogs because the slum has little
access to clean water or sanitation. The main protagonist, Jamal Malik, is idealistic
and truthful and has faith in his destiny. His older brother Salim is his opposite, and
he becomes corrupted by his desire to make money. The filmrecounts Jamal s life,
from when he was a young street kid living as a slumdog and surviving by begging,

The audience sees some characters believing that destiny will determine their fate
whereas others are searching for power in the form of influence or money. A two
colour structure is used to highlight these aspects where yellow represents hope
and blue represents power. The film opens in a golden light, which symbolises
money but also the hope of becoming a millionaire. Generally, Jamal s childhood
memories are visualised in warm and bright colours that become colder and muted
as his life adverse experiences approach the present. Latika wears bright yellow to
symbolise happier times. However, when she is separated from Jamal or is being
exploited and forced into prostitution by Maman or the crime boss, Javed, she
wears less yellow and the colour is muted. In contrast, the protagonists are
portrayed in dark or washed out colours in scenes that include blue hues that signify
power. The blue god Rama also symbolises the Hindu vigilantes attacking the
Muslim residents. The interrogation scenes use unusual camera angles and lighting
to further emphasise power, such as when Jamal is depicted in a dim light, but
light is shone on the top of the interrogator at the rear of the shot. Overall, India s
polar society is separated through colour and by space; where the poor wear dark,
dirty clothes and live in dark, bland houses and the wealthy wear colourful, clean

Critical Infrastructure Protection
Introduction
When it comes to protecting an infrastructure, careful planning and coordination
needs to take place. Protecting an infrastructure takes an important security initiative
called Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP). The United States critical
infrastructure is protected by the Department of Homeland Security.
Examine three areas of the Department of Homeland Security: mission, operations
and responsibilities
The first area is the Department of Homeland Security s mission. The Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) was created in 2002 by the Homeland Security Act. In
2003 the DHS started their operations. The DHS primary responsibilities and
objectives includes prevention, protection, and response to issues that threaten ...

No matter how hard you try or the efforts placed on prevention, no one can stop or
prevent a natural disaster from causing damage to computer systems, downtime, and
damage or disruption to other essential services. The only thing that ca help you with
a natural disaster is to have recovery and contingency plans in place.
The most unpredictable and dangerous attack comes from human threats. This can
especially be damaging when it comes from someone in the inside, because they
know what the security measures are and other protective measures that might be in
place. An attack from an insider is hard to prevent because they have been given
legitimate access to systems, they are most familiar with the computers and
applications, and they will know how to cause damage.
Evaluate the effectiveness of IS professionals in regard to protecting the U.S. s
critical infrastructure
When evaluating the effectiveness of an IS professional in relation to protecting our
nations critical infrastructure, issue arise from the outdated government regulation.
Most of the efforts are non effective because the government is trying to use 19th
century solutions for 21st century problems. There are many regulations that are put
into place but the difficulty comes when trying to change or remove the regulation
that is currently in place. The direct result of slow regulation change is that
cybersecurity regulations are already outdated before they are releases. The federal

Often when people think of Olympic host cities, they conjure up massive cities in
their minds. Lake Placid does not align with that ideal. We prefer the term village
to city. Because of our smaller size, people do not think that we are equipped to
host the Olympic Games. We may be small, but the village of Lake Placid is a
specialized city that focuses on recreation, especially winter sports. Lake Placid has
been engineered to host events such as these Olympic Games.

The Impact Of Air Bags On The Field Of Biomechanics
Along...
Contributions with the field of biomechanics along with advancements in
technology have led to improvements in the general and public safety pertaining to
motor vehicles. Air bags have reduced mortality rates in motor vehicle accidents
significantly throughout the years. Air bags have undergone development for
many years, first being introduced in the 1960 s with the release of the first
commercial air bag in the 1980 s appearing in motor vehicles. Air bags have been a
subject of research and tests throughout the years currently still evolving. Through
studies and research collected, air bags have shown to be a beneficial innovation
to the health and safety of the public. Air bags are intended to provide maximum
protection to driver and passenger occupants during a collision. Head, neck, and
chest body regions are considered most vulnerable to severe trauma (Pintar,
Yoganandan, Gennarelli, 2000) . An air bag is rapidly inflated during the impact of
a collision. It is intended to serve as a cushion to the driver or passenger to prevent
or reduce severe injury. We know that moving objects possess a momentum. The
product of the mass and velocity of an object equals its momentum. Newton s first
law of motion states that an object will continue to move in its speed and direction
unless forces are acted upon. The vehicleitself along with the passengers inside
represents a moving object. Passengers inside, unless restrained or acted upon will
continue moving at the speed of
The Greek Gods And Goddesses
Many greek gods and goddesses possess paradoxical characteristics. This makes some
of them hypocritical and others well rounded. Artemis shows her versatility through
her two sided role as an influential women in society and her opposite qualities
apparent during acts of mass destruction.
Artemis was born to Zeus, God of lighting, and titan Leto along with her twin brother
Apollo (Hamilton 31). Right as Leto was about to give birth, she was prohibited by
Hera, Zeus s jealous primary suitor, from having the children where the sun could
reach her. To avoid upsetting Hera, Zeus took Leto to a floating island shielded
from the sun by a wave. Leto had the babies there because technically she was not
on any ground where the sun was showing (Wickersham 1:60). Artemis is the
huntress of the gods. She maintains adolescence s safety and values virginity
highly. She is also called Diana in Roman Mythology (Wickersham 1:59). The
cypress is her holy tree and deer are especially holy to her in addition to her passion
for all wild creatures (Hamilton 32). She is characterized as ...lover of the woods
and the wild chase over the mountains, (Hamilton 31). Artemis was a strong female
from the beginning. She and her brother, Apollo, were brought to Olympus by Zeus
because of their amazing beauty. On their third birthday, when he pulled them up to
the heavens, he asked Artemis what gifts she would like. She knew exactly what she
wanted and promptly explained her six requests. First she
Heart Of Darkness White Dichotomy
Discrimination is seen across every culture, in every nation, in every time period. In
some cultures these levels are seen in socioeconomic groups, races, or even gender.
Joseph Conrad s novella, Heart of Darkness, challenges the morality behind
discrimination. Conrad s novella challenges reader s view of racismthrough lies,
stereotypes and symbolism.
Traditionally, literature portrays races in a certain light, usually white references to
purity or honesty, and black to evil and lies. Before even reading Conrad s novella
there is already a preconceived idea of race for the reader. One example of this can be
seen through Allingham s analysis of the symbolism used throughout the novella, as
the story unfolds, Marlow reverses the normal symbology of the black white
dichotomy, so that gradually darkness comes to mean truth, whiteness falsehood
(Allingham). Conrad overturns the traditional view of race in literature. While ...

Universally, white is seen as purity, rebirth, or life, but Conrad chooses to oppose
this view. Conrad forces the readers subconsciously to connect the Europeans with
evil and lies. By psychoanalyzing the text, one can find that this impression stems
from the constant strife within the Europeans relationships and the lies they tell
both to themselves and the natives. Imperialism, the quest for power and wealth,
causes the Europeans to be willing to do anything they deem necessary to gain such
power. Characters threaten to kill one another, lie to each other, and take any action
to bolster their position within society. This strongly opposes the standard picture
seen of Europeans in literature. Historically natives are depicted as causing strife
and being evil in order to get ahead when in Conrad s novella, the reverse is so. It is
the Europeans who are the
Gender, Gender And Gender Equality
This essay will look at Gender discrimination in an Australian prospective with
some overseas perspectives overlapping this essay will look at gender deference s
in pay in Australia and discuss the ideas and arguments surrounding gender
equality in the work place. Gender equity in work place is still a heavily
understudied in Australia and as is more or less worldwide. In Australia a country
of so called equality which is still, even in the 21st century is an ambiguous and
questionable ideal as seen by the lack of changes since implementation to close the
gap. Moves towards equality have been great back in the 70s though after there has
been little change and a gap averaging up to 25% from then and now, which is a
cause for concern.
The workforce before 1970 has had a gap of pay between the genders that is that of a
significant amount. It was until the early 1970s the gender pay gap in Australia was
wide, and was kept that way by institutionalized gender wage discrimination , as
claimed by Paul Miller (1994, p.371). That was until the equal pay decisions for
women in 1969, 1972 and 1974 put an end to the discrimination and closed the gap
significantly (e.g., Gregory and Duncan, 1981; Borland, 1999), but of course the
gap remained. At the end of the 1990s it was looked at again from 1980s and 1990s
it was found that the pay gap ranged from about 8 percent to 25 percent (Borland,
1999, p. 267).
Borland in their studies observed that discrimination in general in an

While Edison's contributions to the field of innovation and technology are vast, the difficulty lies in distilling his multifaceted legacy into a coherent and engaging narrative. Researching his numerous inventions, experiments, and entrepreneurial ventures requires sifting through an extensive array of historical documents, biographies, and scholarly articles. One must navigate the complexities of Edison's personal life, exploring how his upbringing and experiences shaped his inventive spirit. Addressing controversies and criticisms surrounding his methods and business practices adds another layer of complexity to the essay. Balancing admiration for his groundbreaking work with a nuanced discussion of the less savory aspects of his career requires a careful and thoughtful approach. Furthermore, the challenge extends to presenting a fresh perspective on a well-documented subject. Countless essays and articles have been written about Thomas Edison, making it essential to avoid regurgitating widely known facts. Instead, the essay should strive to offer a unique insight or perspective that captivates the reader's attention. Organizing the essay coherently is also crucial. Structuring the content in a way that flows seamlessly, from Edison's early life to his later inventions and impact on society, demands careful planning and execution. Maintaining a balance between providing sufficient detail and avoiding overwhelming the reader is an art in itself. In conclusion, crafting an essay on Thomas Edison is a challenging task that requires extensive research, a nuanced approach to his life and legacy, and the ability to present a fresh perspective on a well-explored subject. Finally, they can expand their market to the growing population of older generations by making their websites more attractive by catering to
  • 3. War On Drugs And Drug Trafficking Organized crime is destructive to all countries it effects. In terms of the United States, it is plagued by human trafficking, drug trafficking, and weapons trafficking. One of the most harmful organized crimes is drug trafficking. What makes drug trafficking organized is the system of production to distribution. Drugtrafficking organizations have a hierarchy of power from the kingpins to the couriers. Drug also has political influence they are able to bribe and blackmail politicians. Trafficking drugs is a multi billion dollar business, and the United States is one of its largest markets. Drug trafficking is defined as the selling, transportation, and illegal import of unlawful controlled substances, such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some immigrants are even recruited, they do this because drug smugglers fund their way into the United States. So many people are desperate to get out of Mexico they risk their freedom. In recent news, their was also an American man who used a drone to smuggle drugs over from Mexico to California. He was carrying fifty thousand dollars worth of cocaine. Although I do believe the border should be protected, I don t agree building a wall will stop drug trafficking from Mexico. Before the transportation of narcotic there is an extensive production process. For example, cocaine production begins in the forest of Colombia. Colombia produces over half the world s cocaine. They pay farmers to produce the cocoa leaf and transform it into a paste then a powder. Growing cocaine is just as risky as smuggling it. To combat the growth of the cocoa leaf, Colombian drug enforcement destroy the cocoa farms. They light farms on fire to deter famers from growing it. Law enforcement is not the only danger in drug trafficking. Drug cartels leaders are brutal, and enforce their rule through murder. For example, if people don t want to participate in they just remove the people putting fear in the entire community. Organized crimes can fund each other. Drug trafficking increases weapons trafficking because weapons are needed to protect and enforce the drug trade. So as the need for drugs rises, the need for weapons will rise to creating a cycle of

  • 5. Symbolism In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy Analyze how an issue or idea challenged you to alter or develop your ideas Where men can t live Gods fare no better. In the Pulitzer Prize Winning novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy, an important idea is the theme of humankind and our spiritual nature. In a post apocalyptic world, seemingly abandoned by God, we are shown different ways people react. Some people opt out of any form of morality or faith, believing God is dead. There are also people like the mother, who kills herself because she believes there is no point in trying to survive in this world. The father on the other hand struggles to survive, whilst existentially focusing on protecting his son, who is his own vision of goodness and virtue. The son takes an existential approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCarthy shows us a world where many people take a nihilistic approach, and live life without morals, trying solely to survive. Others commit suicide, because life in this world would be too meaningless. However, the man s love for the boy pushes him to keep living, although with limited morals that extend to protecting his son. The son is portrayed as a good, incorruptible character, who sticks to his morals. He is McCarthy s return to God without religion. In The Road, McCarthy poses an important question to the reader: What really lies at the heart of humankind and our spiritual nature? In a state of disaster, would you abandon faith and/or belief in a God, or would you find reasons to keep on living? This idea could be related to historic events, such as the Black Death outbreak of 1348, when peoples views of religion changed drastically. Society fell apart as many people lived recklessly, abandoning religion because they began to believe there could not be a God, or he would have put an end to this misery. Many people committed suicide, as it seemed better than living in fear, waiting for the disease to strike. Much changed in the following years, including a rise in humanism as people s views of religion changed. However, Christianity still survives today, and in The Road,

  • 7. Use Of Substitution Ciphers And Transposition Ciphers Kaplan University IT286 Unit 6 Jennifer Polisano Question 6 1: Write a one half page description of the use of substitution ciphers and transposition ciphers. Use the rot13 encoding algorithm to encode the following sentence: It is critical for network administrators to understand cryptography. There are several websites that will encrypt in rot13. Answer 6 1: Substitution ciphers are a method of encryption by which units of plaintext are substituted with ciphertext according to a regular system; the units may be single letters (the most common), pairs of letters, triplets of letters, mixtures of the above, and so forth (WordNik, 2014). In other words, if you re sending a message (plaintext) you want to keep secret, it can be transformed into an enciphered message (cipertext) using a different alphabet. The person receiving the message will then have to decrypt it. Transposition cipers are simple data encryption schemes in which plaintext characters are shifted in some regular pattern to form ciphertext (Gustavus, 2014). In other words, it s a simpler way to send secret messages; however, it isn t as secure and can be decrypted easily. For an example, I have encrypted the following phrase using rot13 encryption: It is critical for network administrators to understand cryptography. I was returned with: Vg vf pevgvpny sbe argjbex nqzvavfgengbef gb haqrefgnaq pelcgbtencul . Question 6 2: Write a paragraph on each one of the following
  • 8. Critique Of The Nutcracker On November 25, 2017 I attended The Nutcracker ballet performance at the Eisemann Center. The dance was adapted from a story by E.T.A Hoffman with the music by Tchaikovsky. The show was a faithful adaptation of The Nutcracker with the dancers, costumes, sets, and Tchaikovsky s music all playing an integral part in depicting the story in an entertaining way. Overall, the presentation was successful in portraying the holiday classic that is The Nutcracker, and the majestic sets and costumes along with the music allowed for sustained attention and spectacle that was still true to the narrative of The Nutcracker. The production did this by having grand, bright costumes and sets that resembled the time period of The Nutcracker and depicted the setting of the dances, the original music by Tchaikovsky which was able to produce the emotions that come with the story, and lighting techniques that showed the weather and time of day which helped show what scenes were being told throughout the performance. While observing this dance ballet, there were many things that caught my attention. First, the theater itself was extremely large, and the stage itself was big, and the dancers had plenty of room to move across the stage and perform their routines. There were many dancers, and they all played various roles that ranged from Clara, Fritz, Herr Drosselmeyer, the Rat King, the Nutcracker, the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, and many more. All of the performers wore vivid costumes

  • 10. Social Support Networks Lowering The Risk For Depression Social Support Networks Lowering the Risk for Depression in Young Mothers Introduction Young mothers, those under the age of 25, are a special group of women. They can be wonderful parents and love their children as much as older mothers who are more prepared for their children, however younger mothers can have higher risks for some issues such as depression. There are some ways that can help lower these risks and these include increasing social support networks for young mothers. The Aggregate The aggregate chosen for this paper is that of young mothers. For the purpose of this paper young mothers will constitute any mother under the age of 25. The aggregate of young mothers can be linked to chapter 15, maternal and child health from Community Health Nursing by Stamler and Yiu (2012). In this group of women some may be married, some single, some have higher education, and some are high school dropouts, but they all are under the age of 25 who have one or more children. The Issue Affecting The Aggregate One issue that is a concern for young mothers is a lack of social support leading to an increased risk for depression. The risk of depression for a young mother is higher than that of the risk for older mothers to develop depression (Lanzi, Bert, Jacobs, 2009). The risk for depression is a health issue as depression lowers the mother s warmth and sensitivity towards her child, which links to poorer behavior in the infant, and also links to the mothers isolating themselves
  • 11. Treatment Options For Opioid Addiction Introduction : The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) estimates that 40 to 60 percent of recovering addicts are more likely to relapse .1 Opioid addiction is defined as a pleasurable compulsive act that some may define as a disease. Unfortunately, treatment options for opioid addiction requires compliance by the patient in order to successfully overcome addiction. Probuphine is a new treatment to manage opioid addiction, which was FDA approved based on the safety and efficacy phase III clinical trial. Discussion: Probuphine provides an answer to the continuous increase in opioid user relapsing with its very distinctive delivery platform. The subdermal implant offers a continuous drug delivery system providing non fluctuating levels in the blood of buprenorphine for a period of six months as a single treatment.2 The most common side effects of probuphine are constipation and implant site reactions. Due to the risk associated with insertion and removal Probuphine is only available through a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program. Conclusion: Probuphine was designed to treat opioid dependence, providing a stable delivery platform. As a new and effective therapy, patients have the option of controlling the withdrawal symptoms eliminating the compliance issue. ____________________________________________________________________________ Introduction Extended: Opioid abuse is a disease that affects between 26.4 million and 36 million people around
  • 12. Memorable Moments in America in Flags of Our Fathers by... Flags of Our Fathers by James Bradley is the chronicle of one of the most memorable moments in America s military history. James Bradley achieves to capture in this book, moments of sadness, sorrow, majesty, and immortality of these six boys that raised the flag at Iwo Jima. The picture that immortalized that moment tells a story that represents all men that survived and died for America in that island. James Bradley s quest for answers, for knowledge and for keeping the honor of these man alive, makes this book a true American History testimony. It was only the replacement of a flag but it became the most famous picture in military history. James Bradley s mission to bring these boys back to life, and forever keep them in the country s memory makes this book an entertaining and horrifying war tale. The flag raisers as they were called, were just six boys dreaming with the glory of war and the honor of combat. Unfortunately none of that was found in 1945 when they landed in the sulfur island of Iwo Jima. Horror and death were the only common themes in the lives of the men that fought for thirty five days against a ghost enemy. The boys made heroes were, John Doc Bradley, Rene Gagnon, Harlon Block, Franklin Sousley, Mike Strank and Ira Hayes. When the war ended and John Bradley left the island back to his home, he did not want to talk about Iwo Jima, the boys, the war or the raising of the flag. Much less of the circus that was created around the picture that became

According to The World Bank survey taken in 2010, Australia has 9.6 nurses for every thousand citizens counted compared to Ethiopia, who has a low 0.2 nurses for every thousand citizens counted (The World Bank, 2010). These differences in nursing practices include the availability and maintenance of medical technology to help nurses achieve the best care for patients, the education standards for nurses and nursing students, and the quality of the nurses infection prevention practices. One of the major differences between the nursing practices in Ethiopia and Australia is the availability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A higher degree of education and skills learned is attained when studying in Australia, which is shown through the length of the nursing degree, and although both Australia and Ethiopia have very similar nursing guidelines and infection prevention guidelines, the rules and regulations are put into practice in very different manners. Prevention of disease and infection is taken more seriously, and is seen as a very important procedure in Australia compared to Ethiopia. It is important to provide Ethiopian hospitals with sufficient funding and equipment to properly care for the sick patients needing medical treatment, which can be provided through government funding, and also donations and volunteer
  • 14. Beloved, By Toni Morrison Toni Morrison the Nobel Prize winning American novelist changed the idea of the potential impact of slavery in her novel Beloved. Her literary techniques of flashbacks and switch of narration create an efficient system for her to get her point across in both subtle and direct ways. Beloved tells the story of Sethe, an ex slave, her daughter Denver, and Paul D a friend from the past, and how they are all staying in a house haunted by Sethe s dead daughter Beloved. In this novel, Morrison insinuates the direct ties between slavery and American history, by not only directly using slavery and her characters to prove the point, but by also using the relationship between Sethe and the infanticide she committed as a model of the relationship.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to maintain this theme realistically throughout the novel Morrison writes in the genre of Magical Realism. This genre allows the past to remain connected to the present, Morrison does this in the only logical way possible a ghost. Something that represents the past while having a direct impact and presence on the future. In this case the ghost of Beloved not only represents the spirit of Sethe s dead baby, but the experience of the Middle Passage as well. Throughout the novel Beloved makes multiple references that make no connection to the present plot, but when analyzed connect to the experience of the Middle Passage, where people who were indigenous to Africa were shipped to America to be used as slaves. In the end of Part 2 there are chapters of unspoken thoughts from different character. Chapter 22 is the chapter of Beloved s thoughts this is the area where she most frequently mentions the Middle Passage. She explains there will never be a time when [she is] not crouching and watching others who are crouching too [she is] always crouching the man on [her] face is dead (248). This idea of crouching is consistent with the fact that slaves were tightly packed on the ships, and the dead man on her face is parallel to the fact that the slaves were so tightly packed that live slaves were practically on top of cadavers and vice versa.
  • 15. Discuss the Main Factors Affecting Product Pricing in the Uk Discuss the main factors affecting product pricing in the UK Two surveys on the price setting behaviour of UK firms published by the Bank of England in 1996 and 2008 concluded that the price, the amount of money expected, required or given for a certain level of output, was most often set as a result of market conditions1. The same report however found that the second largest price differential was the objective of the specific firm surveyed1, and thus product pricing in the UK can be seen to be determined by the interaction between these objectives and the market structures that bind how firms operate. In the UK these dominant structures are monopolistic, oligopolistic and perfectly competitive, within which there are differing degrees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While this does explain only a change in price, not its actual determination, it is effective in presenting why product pricing under oligopolistic market structure can be seen to be relatively stable at point P. That is not to say that firms will not sell their output at different prices in order to increase market share. In the aforementioned oligopolistic market of tour operators, 3rd degree price discrimination can be practised by charging two sets of consumers with differing price elasticities of demand for the same product (price elasticity of demand for the time duration of a holiday becoming more inelastic at around 7 days) contrasting prices, and thus firms can extract consumer surplus from buyers and convert this into supernormal profit. This in turn can be used to defend market position through the cross subsidisation of other markets in which it operates, thereby artificially altering price and driving competitors out of the market. It must ensure however, that the cost of separating the two markets is not greater than the profit made, through the regulation of the resale of flight tickets, for example. However, there is some debate as to whether Friedman s doctrine of the pursuit of profit has any relevance to modern day corporations; a recent study by Shipley
  • 16. Imagery in Night Essay Imagery can be defined as the ability to form mental images of things or events. The Holocaust was the careless and brutal massacre of six million Jews by the Nazis, who were under the rule of Adolf Hitler, during World War II. In the book Night Elie Wiesel describes his harsh, devastating journey throughout the Holocaustby using imagery. During the novel Night , Elie vividly describes his experiences throughout the holocaust when they first arrive at Auschwitz and saw the fire, when Elie and his convoy arrive at Buna, and during the alert when a man tries to get an extra ration of soup. The reader can also see flames slowly arising in the distance along with skeleton like figures approaching the cattle cars in prison like uniforms. Imagery is very evident in that passage. Now comes the time when Elie and his convoy arrive at Buna. Another passage in which Elie uses imagery to make the novel come to life is when Elie and his convoy arrive at Buna, another camp. Elie and his convoy were being sent to Buna from Auschwitz. When they arrived at the camp the reader and Elie can see an almost deserted camp, except for a few wandering prisoners. Elie and the others were sent immediately to the showers where the head of the camp meet up with them. He [is] a stocky man with big shoulders, the neck of a bull, thick lips, and curly hair. He [is] [giving] an impression of kindness (47), Elie said. The reader can see a big stocky man with curly hair approaching all of the Jews. He has a slight smile on his face as he approaches the Jews who are all waiting by the showers. Imagery is very strong in that passage. Next comes the time during the alert when a man tries to get a extra ration of soup. Finally, one passage in which the reader can feel like they are at the camp because of imagery is when during the alert, a man is brave enough to try and get an extra ration of soup. Everyone in the camp was ordered to go to their barracks and stay

Alcohol has been a part of human history for an immense amount of time; evidence of an alcohol drink in China dates back to 7000 BCE (Hirst). Ancient Egyptians are cited as having had some form of alcohol(Hirst). Sura was a prominent Indian alcohol made from rice from 3000 BCE to 2000 BCE (Hirst). Babylonians had various alcohols and worshipped a goddess of wineand beer by the name of Sidura; Sidura appears as a character in Gilgamesh, the earliest surviving work of literature that dates back to 2750 BCE (Hirst). The nineteenth century marks the beginning of a great push for temperance during the Second Great Awakening; this was founded upon an increased level of alcoholismin Europe and America during a time of Industrialization that called for the need of reliable workers (Holt). The Puritan push for temperance became stronger, and in 1826, the Society for the Promotion of Temperance was formed with over five thousand chapters across the United States; this group was partly responsible for the implementation of the illegality of buying alcohol in many states on a Sunday (Indiana is the only state in which this law remains in effect) and for the movement that preceded the Prohibition in 1920 (Holt). The Prohibition disallowed Americans to produce, import, transport, or sell alcoholic beverages; it lasted for thirteen years until the twenty first amendment ended it because of the reaction it sparked (Holt). In the twenty first century, the minimum drinking age in all fifty states in America is 21 years old. In perfect capital market, we assume that firms act rationally; therefore theorist has come out with a proposition that helps to make the marginal profit on physical assets equal to the market rate of interest. Two propositions have been introduced and both of them are assuming that firm, as a rational decision maker under certainty circumstance will maximize profits and market value of their firm. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The traditional theory of finance is that a firm s leverage will affect the firm s market value. However, Modigliani and Miller declined this theory and claimed that firm s leverage has no effect on firm s market value. Since the firms are not perfect substitutes, Modigliani and Miller have derived two basic propositions regarding relationship of the firm s value and capital structure. The first proposition was introduced and known as Proposition I. Proposition I claimed that investment decisions are independent of its capital structure. The average cost of capital will be equivalent to its capitalization rate of pure income of its own class. It means that firm cannot change their cost of their capital by either adding or reducing the financial structure. This means than any changes in the cost of capital will not have any effect on the financial structure. However, in any cases if Proposition I does not hold, firm have the ability to put any equivalent leverage for themselves by borrowing using their personal account. Therefore, in order to prevent it from taking place, value of levered firm and value of unlevered firm should be equivalent to each other. there should be no different between levered and unlevered firm. Next, we move on the Proposition II. Proposition II is the extension of

Economic benefits gained from the seal hunt include an increase in trading relationships for Canada and the stimulation of the provincial economy of Newfoundland and Labrador. As reported by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the total landed value of the seal harvest for 2006 was $34.3 million dollars ( Market 1). It is important to establish why people show some approval towards this crime and are even excited by it as it may suggest that it is becoming socially acceptable and perhaps an encouraged norm. There is also evidence to suggest that victims receive more judgment and blame if they took an explicit image or video themselves as oppose to without their consent or knowledge (Najdowski, Hildegrand, 2014). Further evidence of this view comes from research by Henry, Flynn and Powell (2017) who found that sixty two percent of people would hold a victim partly responsible if they sent someone an indecent image of themselves and it ends up online. Bothamley and Tully (2017) studied factors that influenced victim blaming and found that the relationship between the perpetrator and the victim did not influence perceptions of victim blame and nor did the reason for the relationship breakdown, thus the research by Najdowski and Hildegrand (2014) needs to be further explored to clarify exactly in what context do
  • 22. Literary Analysis Of The Telephone By Maya Angelou The poem I chose to perform for the choral reading project is The Telephone by Maya Angelou. This poem is about a woman waiting for her phone to ring while all of her neighbors are constantly getting phone calls. The poem has a calm tone throughout while at the end it becomes extremely angry. The speaker remains the same throughout the poem, a woman waiting for her phone to ring. However, the work has an underlying theme of jealousy, as the speaker seeks the phone calls that her neighbors get. In the performance of this poem the performers made some choices in order to emphasize the meaning of the poem. The first choice made in the choral reading regards the tone of the poem. In the first three stanzas the speaker speaks slowly and calmly. The performer did this in order to emphasize the emotion that the speaker feels while waiting for the phone to ring, and how drawn out it feels, which she expresses in the line From Monday, the morning of the week, / through mid times / noon and Sunday s dying / light. (Angelou 16 19). In this line she expresses that she has been waiting for the phone to ring forever, so the readers chose a slow pace to read the poem. At the end of the poem there is a shift with the line Ring. Damn you! where the tone suddenly becomes angry (24). For this line the performers chose to scream ot loudly after a pause to represent the pent up rage and angerthe speaker has towards the phone that won t ring. In the performance the readers chose to begin with a slow and calm voice and to end with a loud, screaming voice to represent the tone of the poem. The next choice made for the performance is to have gestures. The first gesture has to do with the lines In red and chaperons my life. / Sitting like a strict which personifies the phone, and where the performer picks up the phone and then put it down on the word sitting (3 4). The phone is picked up and looked at to represent the longing for the call and then put down to convey that the call did not come. The next gesture comes with the lines It tats the day, crocheting / other people s lives / in neat arrangements / ignoring me where Hannah picks up the phone, wraps the cord around her arm, detangles it, and then puts the phone

An Analysis of The Thurber Carnival Essay An Analysis of The Thurber Carnival The Fables for Our Time contained in Thurber s The Thurber Carnival are, in my opinion, particularly good examples of a writer successfully breaking frames in order to create humor and satire. In this essay I am going to explore the main methods Thurber uses to create humor and satire in the fables The Shrike and the Chipmunks and The Unicorn in the Garden 2. Firstly though, what do I mean by the broken frame ? This is a reference to the idea that the violation of our frames of reference , and the recognition of the incongruity caused by it, is the basic element of humour. If the incongruity needs to be explained, the humour will be lost. Kant expresses this idea when he says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be sure, the female chipmunk had not been gone three nights before the male had to dress for a banquet and could not find his studs or shirt or suspenders.5 Both of these fables are part of the twist in the tale tradition. They lead the reader into expecting one type of ending and then provide another, in this case in order to create a humour. In The Shrike and the Chipmunks , the lady chipmunk espouses all of those old wives sayings that are generally considered to be commonsensical. You can t be healthy if you lie in bed all day and never get any exercise, the chipmunk wife tells her husband6. The irony here is that by being forced from his bed the male chipmunk becomes the prey of a shrike. Thurber s twist is that we tend to believe that the wife s advice is right early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise , but in the chipmunks case, following this maxim was a death warrant. The moral at the end provides the final laugh. It is in fact an altered version of the maxim quoted above. Early to rise and early to bed makes a male healthy wealthy and dead. 7 It is the familiarity of the one, compared with the changed emphasis of the other, that breaks the frame of our experience and provokes our laughter. This is a satirical laugh. The new version of the maxim exposes the unthinking trust we put in a lot of sayings deserved or not. The Unicorn in the Garden has a similar

Essay on The Prince vs. the Republic Machiavelli s criticism of Plato s The Republic states that a ruler who possesses an inherent quality of that which is consistently good will never have the authority to rule his or her people successfully. If a ruler always treats his subjects in a manner, which can be qualified as good, then he will ultimately meet his demise, as his subjects will rise against him. Machiavelli claims that it is unrealistic to assume that all the people of a kingdom will conduct themselves in a manner that will be consistent with the ruling of a good leader. Such republics or principalities do not exist in reality and are entirely hypothetical situations. Plato treats his republic as a means of demonstrating that there is a certain way for all people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believes that the knowledge and application of the good will lead to a perfect state. However, this cannot be said to be realistic, as despite the education of the good, one s desires will ultimately overcome the need to be good and the state will collapse. If the rulers are only thinking of the overall good of the state, their own needs will not be met, which can lead to unhappiness on the part of the rulers and ultimately to the downfall of the system. Machiavelli implies in his criticism that the needs of the ruler must be met in order to maintain a stable state, he must trust his instincts and base desires in order to remain true to himself. If he does not, as Plato states and does as he ought to, not as he wishes to, then he will be living a lie within himself and not rule as he should. Without being true to what human nature tells one to do, an uprising either within the ruler or of the subjects will take place and the state cannot stay afloat. As Plato states in the republic the desires of the less respectable majority are controlled by the desires and the wisdom of the superior minority (Part 5, 431d), however one cannot suppress all of the desires forever and the people will finally realize the oppression that they are experiencing and rise against the superior minority . The minority will not possess the power needed to control the less respectable

A Research Study On Scar Markers SCAR markers are PCR based primers that represent genomic DNA fragments at genetically defined loci, that are identified by PCR amplification using sequence specific oligonuceotide primers (Paran and Michelmore, 1993; Me Dermott et al., 1994). Inception of SCARs involves cloning the amplified products of arbitrary marker techniques and then sequencing the 2 ends of the cloned products. The sequence s therefore used to design specific primer pairs of 15 30 bp which will amplify single major bands of the size similar to that of the cloned fragment. The greater the variation in DNA sequence, the easier it is to generate polymorphic markers. Therefore the plant species used for SCAR development should have sufficient variation for te traits of interest at both the DNA sequence and phenotypic levels. Researchers over the years have employed various non sequence primed PCR markers to develop SCAR markers for the identification of sex in dioecious species of crop plants. Chromosomes and its sex determining genes have driven genetic control of sex determination in dioecious crops. The grounds for reporting these indices as fit measures are discussed in the following paragraph. The RMSEA first developed by Steiger and Lind (1980) tells us how well the model with unknown but optimally chosen parameter estimates would fit the populations covariation matrix. In recent years it has been regarded as the most informative fit indices (Diamantopoulos Siguaw, 2000) due to its sensitivity to the number of estimated parameters in the model. As it is a parsimony adjusted index it takes into account the error of approximation which is not affected by sample size and reduces the stringent requirement on пЃЈ2 that the model holds exactly in the population. MacCallum, Browne and Sugawara (1996) have used RMSEA values of 0.01, 0.05 and 0.08 to indicate excellent, good and mediocre fit, respectively and 0.10 as the cut off for poor fitting model. Hulland, Chow and Lam (1996) proposed that RMSEA values between 0.05 and 0.10 are sometimes considered adequate fit. He has a powerful style that uses examples from his personal life and experiences to shows his reader that it is easy to share the Gospel. He also uses witnessing examples from the lives of various Christians to show the readers that they too can share the gospel without fear. He advocates a simple and non confrontational approach to evangelism and states that God can use even imperfect attempts to share the Gospel. What God cannot use is the Christian s silence about the Gospel. Though many of Fay s examples are success stories, he also gives examples when non believers do not accept Jesus and states that even where conversion does not take place, the believer who witnesses is still successful because of his or her obedience. He argues that evangelism is not about bringing people to Jesus or winning souls but it is about obedience (p.3). He even implies that success is not to be measured by the number of people saved but by obedience in acting out our Christian lives, sharing the gospel and believing God for the results. This challenges a lot of churches and believers who have fallen in the trap of measuring their success based on the number of people who have accepted Jesus and yet it is the Holy spirit who does the work of conversion

Then it came to me, i m really going to play here. Nobody was in the 20,000 seats besides the other five teams ready to play and their parents. I got the chills thinking I was really going to play on the same court that NBA players play on. The best part was if we win the tournament then the parents and players both get tickets for the game later on. I laced up my all white sneakers and thought to myself it s gametime. As the other starters and I took the court, I started imagining myself on TV, as if I were in the NBA. We won the tip off and Johnny passed me the ball, I looked up and nobody was guarding me. I ... The event director gave us our medals but more importantly gave us the tickets for the game later. I then went up to my mom who was elated and showed her the tickets. She emphasized I knew you could do it son and hugged as if there was an an anaconda around my body. She then said ecstatically well I know what we are doing later. I said in response let s do it! Basmagian 3 As we enter the arena once again, the first thing i could smell was the sweet cinnamon from the churros. As my mom and I were finding our seat, I was taking in all the food stands that filled the arena. Eventually, we found our seats and I took a deep breath and soaked in what it felt like to be at an NBA game. All the security, vendors, people, but more importantly the NBA players. Every time The Warriors scored the crowd erupted as if they had just made a game winner. Once it was halftime, my mom and I went to get food. She decided that she wanted street tacos loaded with Carne Asada. I decided I wanted a ginormous, greasy slice of pizza. As they cut the slice my mouth start watering and i could smell the cheese and pepperoni as if it were right in front of my nose. I could not wait to get back to my seat, so I could devour my pizza. Once my Mom and I were done eating I looked at her and said Thank you. She questioned me for what? I said in response
  • 37. My Experience At My High School Essay Statement of Purpose During my high school, I underwent a brief training in C programming language. I was very fascinated by the power of the constructs of a computer language and the intelligence it can build into a machine. Intrigued, I went on to explore further, reading magazines and choosing subjects in curriculum related to Computers. This introduced me to the relevance and extensive use of this machine in our day to day lives and so I decided to pursue my undergraduate degree in Computer Science. Following my under graduation, I joined the Information Technology sector. It s been three years now that I have been working with one of the leading IT services companies in India as a Senior Systems Engineer. Now I feel, I should advance my knowledge (hone my skills) in the field of computers to advance my career and am hence applying for the MS program in Computer Science at ... University. Protecting an infrastructure takes an important security initiative called Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP). The United States critical infrastructure is protected by the Department of Homeland Security. Examine three areas of the Department of Homeland Security: mission, operations and responsibilities The first area is the Department of Homeland Security s mission. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was created in 2002 by the Homeland Security Act. In 2003 the DHS started their operations. No matter how hard you try or the efforts placed on prevention, no one can stop or prevent a natural disaster from causing damage to computer systems, downtime, and damage or disruption to other essential services. The only thing that ca help you with a natural disaster is to have recovery and contingency plans in place. The most unpredictable and dangerous attack comes from human threats. This can especially be damaging when it comes from someone in the inside, because they know what the security measures are and other protective measures that might be in place. An attack from an insider is hard to prevent because they have been given legitimate access to systems, they are most familiar with the computers and applications, and they will know how to cause damage. Evaluate the effectiveness of IS professionals in regard to protecting the U.S. s critical infrastructure When evaluating the effectiveness of an IS professional in relation to protecting our nations critical infrastructure, issue arise from the outdated government regulation. Most of the efforts are non effective because the government is trying to use 19th century solutions for 21st century problems. There are many regulations that are put into place but the difficulty comes when trying to change or remove the regulation that is currently in place. The direct result of slow regulation change is that cybersecurity regulations are already outdated before they are releases. The federal

  • 40. The Impact Of Air Bags On The Field Of Biomechanics Along... Contributions with the field of biomechanics along with advancements in technology have led to improvements in the general and public safety pertaining to motor vehicles. Air bags have reduced mortality rates in motor vehicle accidents significantly throughout the years. Air bags have undergone development for many years, first being introduced in the 1960 s with the release of the first commercial air bag in the 1980 s appearing in motor vehicles. Air bags have been a subject of research and tests throughout the years currently still evolving. Through studies and research collected, air bags have shown to be a beneficial innovation to the health and safety of the public. Air bags are intended to provide maximum protection to driver and passenger occupants during a collision. Head, neck, and chest body regions are considered most vulnerable to severe trauma (Pintar, Yoganandan, Gennarelli, 2000) . An air bag is rapidly inflated during the impact of a collision. It is intended to serve as a cushion to the driver or passenger to prevent or reduce severe injury. We know that moving objects possess a momentum. The product of the mass and velocity of an object equals its momentum. Newton s first law of motion states that an object will continue to move in its speed and direction unless forces are acted upon. The vehicleitself along with the passengers inside represents a moving object. Passengers inside, unless restrained or acted upon will continue moving at the speed of
  • 41. The Greek Gods And Goddesses Many greek gods and goddesses possess paradoxical characteristics. This makes some of them hypocritical and others well rounded. Artemis shows her versatility through her two sided role as an influential women in society and her opposite qualities apparent during acts of mass destruction. Artemis was born to Zeus, God of lighting, and titan Leto along with her twin brother Apollo (Hamilton 31). Right as Leto was about to give birth, she was prohibited by Hera, Zeus s jealous primary suitor, from having the children where the sun could reach her. To avoid upsetting Hera, Zeus took Leto to a floating island shielded from the sun by a wave. Leto had the babies there because technically she was not on any ground where the sun was showing (Wickersham 1:60). Artemis is the huntress of the gods. She maintains adolescence s safety and values virginity highly. She is also called Diana in Roman Mythology (Wickersham 1:59). The cypress is her holy tree and deer are especially holy to her in addition to her passion for all wild creatures (Hamilton 32). She is characterized as ...lover of the woods and the wild chase over the mountains, (Hamilton 31). Artemis was a strong female from the beginning. She and her brother, Apollo, were brought to Olympus by Zeus because of their amazing beauty. On their third birthday, when he pulled them up to the heavens, he asked Artemis what gifts she would like. She knew exactly what she wanted and promptly explained her six requests. First she
  • 42. Heart Of Darkness White Dichotomy Discrimination is seen across every culture, in every nation, in every time period. In some cultures these levels are seen in socioeconomic groups, races, or even gender. Joseph Conrad s novella, Heart of Darkness, challenges the morality behind discrimination. Conrad s novella challenges reader s view of racismthrough lies, stereotypes and symbolism. Traditionally, literature portrays races in a certain light, usually white references to purity or honesty, and black to evil and lies. Before even reading Conrad s novella there is already a preconceived idea of race for the reader. One example of this can be seen through Allingham s analysis of the symbolism used throughout the novella, as the story unfolds, Marlow reverses the normal symbology of the black white dichotomy, so that gradually darkness comes to mean truth, whiteness falsehood (Allingham). Conrad overturns the traditional view of race in literature. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Universally, white is seen as purity, rebirth, or life, but Conrad chooses to oppose this view. Conrad forces the readers subconsciously to connect the Europeans with evil and lies. By psychoanalyzing the text, one can find that this impression stems from the constant strife within the Europeans relationships and the lies they tell both to themselves and the natives. Imperialism, the quest for power and wealth, causes the Europeans to be willing to do anything they deem necessary to gain such power. Characters threaten to kill one another, lie to each other, and take any action to bolster their position within society. This strongly opposes the standard picture seen of Europeans in literature. Historically natives are depicted as causing strife and being evil in order to get ahead when in Conrad s novella, the reverse is so. It is the Europeans who are the
  • 43. Gender, Gender And Gender Equality This essay will look at Gender discrimination in an Australian prospective with some overseas perspectives overlapping this essay will look at gender deference s in pay in Australia and discuss the ideas and arguments surrounding gender equality in the work place. Gender equity in work place is still a heavily understudied in Australia and as is more or less worldwide. In Australia a country of so called equality which is still, even in the 21st century is an ambiguous and questionable ideal as seen by the lack of changes since implementation to close the gap. Moves towards equality have been great back in the 70s though after there has been little change and a gap averaging up to 25% from then and now, which is a cause for concern. The workforce before 1970 has had a gap of pay between the genders that is that of a significant amount. It was until the early 1970s the gender pay gap in Australia was wide, and was kept that way by institutionalized gender wage discrimination , as claimed by Paul Miller (1994, p.371). That was until the equal pay decisions for women in 1969, 1972 and 1974 put an end to the discrimination and closed the gap significantly (e.g., Gregory and Duncan, 1981; Borland, 1999), but of course the gap remained. At the end of the 1990s it was looked at again from 1980s and 1990s it was found that the pay gap ranged from about 8 percent to 25 percent (Borland, 1999, p. 267). Borland in their studies observed that discrimination in general in an
