Variations in the Experience of Depression
Gender Differences in Depression This focus elaborates the place of gender in
determining depression levels. It states that females experience twice as much
depression as men. This is as a result of social forces and cognitive behavioral
differences between women and men. The focus notes that women in communities
with distinct traditional gender roles tend to have higher stress levels than societies
where there are no major divides between gender roles. There are various factors
that cause women to have higher stress levels than men: First, girls experience more
childhood sexual violence than boys, secondly, in adulthood, women are at a higher
risk of being exposed to stressors such as poverty than men, thirdly, acceptance of
social roles hit hard on women; for example, girls worry about their body image and
how boys perceive them. Fourthly, social roles hinder women from pursuing their
dreams in many communities; lastly, women give high weight to interpersonal
relationships such that when the relationships do not work out for them they get
disappointed. The issue of women experiencing higher incidence of depression is
real. This is because of the natural differences that make women the weaker sex; this
makes them mores susceptible to depression. Moreover, gender disparities imminent
in some societies discriminate against women; this discrimination makes them more
prone to depression. However, with more and more societies getting civilized and
embracing gender equity, the
Kate The Great Analysis
Kate the Great by Meg Cabot reveals that people are not always the way they seem.
Kate makes a fantasy world about her life for Jenny to believe in her perspective.
Kate and Jenny have always been best friends ever since the two were young. The
both of them would always hang out with each other have sleepovers, go to the pool
together, the library, and went everywhere else together. They were inseparable as the
author said. Although, throughout all of their adventures Kate has been telling Jenny
about her experience in high school. Keep in mind that Kate is older by a couple of
years than Jenny, therefore, Kate has an influence on what to teach Jenny when she
gets into high school. For example, a Jenny had a memory of Kate had told ... Show

Especially this one time I was taking archery lessons. My teacher looked at me
with grieved face since I had such skinny arms and I was so tiny. Little did he
know I went to the gym almost every day after school. I remember I told him I don
t need to have such a light bow. A light bow was a small bow that was extremely
light used for children. My instructor expected me to be absolutely terrible when
testing came. He figured that since I was skinny I had no upper body strength at
all. However, when testing came he observed me on every shot that s when he
realized I had so much more potential and he put me in his advance program. At

Pierre Elliot Trudeau s War Measures Act
Just watch me are the defiant words uttered by Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot
Trudeau in response to the Front de liberation du Quebec (FLQ), a Marxist group
captaining Quebec independence through indiscriminate political violence. His words
are not those of an iron fisted strongman, despite how strong and undetailed his
comments were at the time, but those of a calculated and well versed leader, whose
decisions came at the behest of prominent Quebecpoliticians. The FLQ instilled a
decade of social violence in the streets of Quebec by systemically championing the
struggles of French minorities who perceived unjust treatment in everyday life. Their
qualms quickly evolved from protest to a Marxist movement, which incorporated

LaPorte was later killed in the first assassination since Thomas d Arcy McGee and
Cross s life was traded for immunity for some FLQ members. These actions set off
the only implementation of the act in non wartime eras, reinforcing the limits of
justice and political process. LaPorte was not an enemy of the group, rather a
Quebec minister of labour. Upon his death, it was stated, LaPorte was killed and
left in the drunk of an abandoned car. In addition to the murder of LaPorte, the
FLQ s actions were responsible for the deaths of seven people (Gurr, Ross, 1989).
The murder of an elected diplomat, in execution style displayed the absolute,
unwavering need for Trudeau to rule with absolute power. The FLQ had grown
powerful enough to kill elected politicians and Trudeau needed to send a military
message that there would not be a violation of Canadian ideals. The military stance
was an effective message and provided necessary backup to police forces to deal
with the threat of selective assassination. This response was as moral as it was
military, and enforced confidence in both Canada s military, but also Trudeau. His
actions could dismantle and scatter the youth of the FLQ, and brought

From the introduction of the counting frame, or more popularly known as the
abacus1, it was realized that the creation of a tool that is able assist in mathematical
calculations will greatly increase productivity and efficiency needs of man2. The use
of abaci continued for numerous centuries up to the years when early calculators
made use of hole placements in a dial to signify a count similar to that of a rotary dial

Maintenance Of International Peace And Security
The exact phrase maintenance of international peace and security is used eight times
in the United Nations Charter, but now almost seventy years after the founding of the
organization the international organization s competence in pursuit of this lofty goal
is still subject to debate. The charter of the United Nationsgives the Security Council
the sole power determine the existence of a threat to world peace and prescribe
course of action needed to be taken against it. The five permanent members of the
Security Council each have the power to veto any action by the council. Requiring
the concurrence of five powers with diverse and wide reaching interests makes any
decisive action quite difficult to come by. However the Security Council... Show more

Collective security was a principal goal of the League of Nations and its principal
failure. When Japan invaded Manchuria and Italy invaded Ethiopia, the League
condemned the actions, but none of its members mobilized military force to rollback
the aggressors. Unlike the League, the United Nations has united the militaries of its
several of its members beneath its banner to defeat an aggressive state. However such
action has only occurred twice and only when the proverbial stars aligned.
When North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950, a young UN was faced
with the first real test of its commitment to collective security. An emergency session
of the Security Council sans the Soviet Union passed a resolution drafted by the
American delegation, which asserted that North Korea has violated the United
Nations charter by invading South Korea and authorized the use of force. A
coalition force under American leadership and the banner of the United Nations was
mobilized. It successively repelled the assault, which had nearly destroyed the
fledgling South Korean republic and pushed back North Korean forces to their
original borders. The American dominated force continued its advance in attempt to
destroy the North Korean state (Stoessinger, 69 85). This new chapter of the war
was in violation of the UN charter. Article 2 of the United Nations charter prohibits
both it and its member states from the use of force
How Ceramic Cutting Tools Have Been Around For Over

Advanced Cutting Materials Ceramic cutting tools have been around for over 100
years. The most common materials used prior to this were iron and steel. These
metals are effective in cutting but have limitations that ceramics do not. There are
many different types of materials used in the production of ceramic based cutting
tools. The production of ceramics have seen various advancements since its birth,
and continues to be more dependable as new technologies are applied to lower cost
and boost efficiency in development. Advanced cutting ceramics is a $30 million
(US) industry per the Department of Energy and has seen increased growth in the last
10 years. Alumina (гЂ–AlгЂ—_2 O_3) and Silicon Nitride (гЂ–SiгЂ—_3 N_4) are
most commonly found in a ceramic cutting material. Their attributes differ for their
own specific purpose, but they all have the same core characteristics. They all
demonstrate elevated hardness, strength, and thermal conductivity. Thermal
conductivity is one of the main advantages in using ceramics over other materials.
Ceramics can withstand temperatures over 4000℉ in its operation, while Carbide
can only reach 1600℉. Cutting materials at this heat allows for the material being
cut to be softened, allowing for a smoother, easier pass. These high temperatures are
unattainable for carbide tools because they exceed its melting point. Ideal machining
temperatures (e.g., 2200В°F for nickel alloys) can be accommodated by

there are many people debating fiercely on both sides of this heated argument; they

issues as it is crucial for a webpage to have an accurate address which appropriately
represents content of the page and also generate helpful application in web

components of URLs as they generate the frame of each URL. Hypertext transfer

its content is not affected when extra parameters are added to the URL is crucial to
know as parameters are applied in web analytics tools such as Google analytics to
get traffic source data. Web analytics tools such as Sitecatalyst, Webtrends and
Google analytics uses parameters differently. Sitecatalyst is highly depended on page

Webtrends mainly uses hostname and path to identify pages, however, Webtrends is

Although postmodernist view aesthetic beauty through the lens of subjectivity God

beauty (moral and aesthetic) to expressions and characters that reflect God s glory

Operant Conditioning in the Criminal Justice System
July 12, 2015
Psychology plays a very important role in the field of criminal justice. It is needed
to help assess individuals who commit crimes, as well as, help to be a predictor of
criminal behavior. Utilizing theories such behaviorism and operant conditioning,
individual behavior is able to be assessed by the response to learning what actions
result in rewards and what actions result in punishment. As a result of how
individuals respond to rewards and punishment, learned behaviors have the possibility
to be deterred or corrected.

Operant conditioning applies to many areas in both everyday life and in the criminal
justice system. If you are late to work every day to work or you don t complete work
that is assigned to you than you can be demoted, have a decrease in pay or possibly
lose your job. All of these are consequences to behaviors that have been displayed
over time.
Applying operant conditioning to the criminal justice provides very useful
information. It helps in the development of laws and regulations as well as
determines reasons why individuals commit crimes. This theory can also, after study,
possibly be a predictive of individuals who commit crimes and also provide ideas on
how to deter criminal behavior.
Criminal Statutes
Criminal statutes are enacted by federal and local governments in order to deter
criminal behaviors and activities in order to protect citizens. Laws and statutes were
developed in order to ensure that citizens act in an appropriate manner or face the
consequences of their actions. They also reflect expectations of appropriate and
inappropriate behaviors that have been set for local, state, and federal governments.
Operant conditioning applies to the enactment of criminal statutes in many ways.
Society has been studied to determine what acceptable and unacceptable behaviors
are. As a result of these studies and the enactment of statutes, they have identified
those actions by citizens that are not desirable or dangerous
Gymnast Research Paper
Why is training as a professional gymnast so demanding on gymnast s bodies? To
partake in gymnastics it takes a vast amount of upper body strength. This strength
alone is hard to build and maintain. Trainings are extreme with any hours, lots of
physical demands as well as mentally challenging . Great bursts of energy and power
are needed to use this strength. Also a great amount of advanced physics come into
executing skills perfectly. All of these aspects effect gymnasts can be positive and or

Also early preparation for gymnastics is one of the most important aspects. From
personally knowing older gymnasts who started at ages three to five I know that
this early intense training affects them immensely, both physically and mentally.
Recreational coaches have stated that a the age of three children should not be
training or competing competitively. However elite Coaches believe that beginning
to learn and over stretch children will assist with their gymnasts in later in their
career, however this is not the case after this career is over. The current methods
for teaching gymnasts are extremely demanding at advanced levels, require that
children give up many areas of their lives. This can have extremely negative effects
on developing children. Girls in gymnastics are especially vulnerable to delayed
puberty. Menstrual cycles are often delayed and or stopped for an extended amount
of time. Both girls and boys are susceptible to stunted growth due to over training and
excessive dieting and the extreme stress that is associated with gymnastics. A
gymnast s career is usually from childhood to possibly early adult hood ages four to
twenty seven. After this time many gymnasts begin to break down either physically
or mentally. Their bodies cannot handle the pressure and they no longer have the
power or strength to do the hard skills. Starting gymnasts at such a young age is
mostly to get the most of their time and effort into gymnasts before they burn out . Its
not necessarily the gymnastics that is disadvantaging the gymnasts it s the amount of
strenuous hours and injuries that occur during the trainings. Some retired gymnasts
had to retire at a very young age because or joint injuries. The intensity that they had
to train at was extreme, and it was stated that it was hard to train when their joints

Explain The Manifestations Of Crime
1: There are many factors that explain the different manifestations of crime which
the U.S. Now, there are crimes that are harder to understand because they are
completely beyond reason. For example, it is hard to imagine that an individual
approaches a stranger and stabs him to death or that someone drives in front of a
house and starts shooting for no reason.
Some people argue that violence is inherent in man. However every day we see many
case in the new about crime because some people taking the law into their own

most is common is racial crime. On hearing the news of a cruel murder, some
people may react by saying, The one who did it must be crazy! However, not all
individuals who report such acts are upset, although many do have problems coping
with life s pressures. Hence, experts point out that violent behavior may also be due
to certain defects of the aggressor s personality. These include: learning disabilities;
difficulty in relating to others; psychological disorders due to physical abuse or

social justice. Inequalities in the same society often involve large doses of conflict

The elections that took place during the 1960s included the 1960 election of John

man ever elected president, was shot dead on November 23, 1963 his Vice
President Lyndon Johnson took his place. Johnson was in office until the
republican nominee Richard Nixon took his place in the November election of
1968. The March on Washington was part of the civil rights movement led by
Martin Luther King Jr. On August 28th, 1963, 250,000 people marched through
Washington D.C. in protest of the injustice and inequalities that black Americans
faced because of the color of their skin. Demonstrators walked from the washington
monument to the Lincoln Memorial. It was there that Martin Luther King Jr. said
his famous I Have a Dream speech where he referenced Abraham Lincoln s
Emancipation Proclamation when talking about racial inequality. This acted as a
very powerful reference due to the location of his speech. Malcolm Little (or
Malcolm X) was a pimp, a cocaine addict, and a thief, although some say he just

his killing as the result of a feud between him and the nation of Islam. His house,

Emission Standards of the Diesel Engine
Diesel engines began to be used in automobiles in the 1930s. They are used in many
trucks, ships, buses and small passenger cars in Europe right now.[1] Many believe
that diesel engine are heavier, noisier and generate black smock when running.
However, diesel engine s unique advantages can make them the engine of the future
for vehicles. And with much more stringent standard to take effect in the future,
diesel engines emissions and control technologies are still very much in the forefront.
This paper will cover the developments in diesel vehicles emission regulation and
control technology for NOx, particulate matter (PM) for diesel vehicles.
Regulation
Right now there are two kinds of emission standard in US. One of them is federal
standards established by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and another
is California standards. Since the State of California are facing more severe air
pollutant problem than most of other state, they choose to adopt its own emission
regulations. The California Air Resources Board (ARB) establish engine and vehicle
emission regulations that are often more stringent than the federal rules. Other states
can make their own decision to either implement the federal emission standards or to
use California requirements.
After the Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) on 1990, two sets of standards have
been defined for light duty vehicles. Tier I standard was published in 1991 and was
phased in between 1994 and 1997. Tier II standard was
Management Accounting Statement
Evaluate the following statement: Managers should not focus on the current stock
value because doing so will lead to an overemphasis on short term profits at the
expense of long term profits. The current stock value reflects the risk, timing, and
magnitude of all future cash flows, both short term and long term. Management
continuously has economic incentive to increase share value for two reasons. First,
managerial compensation, particularly at the top, is usually tied to financial
performance in general and often to share value in particular. For example, managers
are frequently given the option to buy stockat a bargain price. The more the stock is
worth, the more valuable is this option.
The second incentive managers have relates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

3. Critics have charged that compensation to top managers in the United States is
simply too high and should be cut back. For example, focusing on large
corporations, Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, earned about $64.9 million

that superstar athletes such as LeBron James, top entertainers like Tom Hanks and
Oprah Winfrey, and many others at the top of their respective fields earn at least as
much, if not a great deal more.
Compensation to high profile names in the United States are indeed extremely high.
Although these high profile managers, entertainers, and athletes work hard for their
money that does not make them harder workers than an average American trying to
support their families. However, in this day in age we are a population of people
who like to be entertained and we are the ones supporting these celebrities. As long as

Analysis Of The Hard Nut By Mark Morris
It is incredibly hard to take a classic, a piece known by thousands, recognizable by
the first few notes of music, and change a single thing without inducing wrath. The
Hard Nut by Mark Morris is a contemporary dance piece choreographed in the early
1990s. It is a piece based off of the Nutcracker, following a slightly altered story,
though keeping the original music and much of the original concept. The dance
focused on will be The Waltz of the Snowflakes. This dance, in particular, reflects
concepts of beauty beyond gender, while also reflecting how the concepts of gender
were challenged during the time period that this was originally choreographed and
performed in, reflected through both the choreography and the set. The Hard Nut is a
stunning piece of contemporary balletalters the original concepts of the Nutcracker
while still honoring the original. The modernized version is meant to take place in
possibly 1960s or 1970s, opposed to the Victorian Era most use, but the setting isn
t the only thing that is modernized in this piece. The Waltz of the Snowflakes is a
fan favorite of the original Nutcracker, where the snowflakes, donned in beautiful
white tutus, dance around Clara and the prince, creating a stunning winter scene.
The original and the modernized version do have the costuming in common, which
wouldn t be surprising was it not for the dancers involved. While the Waltz of the
Snowflakes is traditionally a rather feminine piece, Mark Morris chose here to use
the entire ensemble, regardless of gender, in the dance, all of whom wore the same
white tutu costumes with headpieces that further hid their gender and sex.
Additionally, the choreography in the dance, unlike most ballet pieces, is not
separated by gender. Each dancer dances the same choreography regardless of their
sex or gender. The choice of contemporary ballet is perfect for the message and
concepts behind the piece, taking a story, or long held dance rules, and bending them
to modern times while still protecting the integrity of the original piece or style. The
lack of separation in this piece is a stunning reflection of the concept that gender or
sex has no correlation with beauty.
The choreography in this piece is gorgeous, even

Kardashians. However, deep down Squidward does care about Spongebob and the
others, he just likes to put up a tough front. Sandy is a squirrel from Texas who
lives in an air locked tree dome and wears a helmet and suit, so she can breathe
underwater. She is a karate master and exceptionally smart. She is very much an
outsider in Bikini Bottom, but everyone respects her wisdom. The characters in
Bikini Bottom regularly run on emotions and make stupid decisions, so she is the
rational voice among the chaos. This attribute can be seen through advisors, who
are supposed to help leaders make sane decisions. Also, teachers can be represented
by Sandy because of the wisdom and information they teach students and the
guidance they offer. Patrick is Spongebob s best friend, and together they partake in
many mindless adventures, often to the chagrin of others especially Squidward. He
has an overly exaggerated dumb persona, but is loveable at the same time. He is
Spongebob s faithful sidekick and extremely loyal. However, he unintendedly takes
advantage of Spongebob, eating his food and taking his stuff. Patrick represents that

Power Vs Presidential Power Essay
I agree that separate institutions with shared powers is both a great advantage and
a great disadvantage to presidential control of the bureaucracy. Great advantages of
the presidency include the threat of a veto and the power of negotiation through
Congress. The President can veto anything that comes to his hands and the
Congress will not feel the need to override presidential authority much. Congress is
willing to delegate and compromise with the president due to his power. This is due
to the collective action and centralized powers of Congress. Congress has to work
together in order to keep legislation from being vetoed by the President and the
loyalty of the president and executive standing plays a huge role in this. Presidents
also have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The executive and legislative branch are always fighting for power. There are so
many shared powers throughout the executive and legislative branch that the system
results in being inefficient. A lot of powers written in the Constitution are vague
and are not well laid out for either branch of government. The Constitution itself
guarantees conflict within the Congress and the presidency. This is due to the fact
that they have different goals and agendas. The President has a more national point
of view while Congress has a more local point of view. Congress wants to gain
support for their constituents. They do this through support from interest groups
and even the voters themselves. When it comes to the presidency, the concept of
strategic competence is set between rhetoric and action. It is one thing for a
president to know history and political concepts, but to run a country involves
having a lot of skill. Congress has the power of the purse and writes laws to reform
or change bureaucratic democracies. Congress can limit presidential power by not
appropriating money to presidential needs and can get what they want passed
through bills and laws even after a President s
Taking a Look at Web Communication
1. What is the Internet?
Internet is a global network topology, which connected network computers using the
standard Internet Protocol Suite to users all around the world. The structures of
networks are for the constructing and examining networking machineries (Calvert,
Tech, Doar, Nerion Zegura, 1997). Internetis being accessed through the protocol
suite. The Internet provides an extensive range of information, sources and services
to the users, which allows greater flexibility in working hours and studying. Internet
is used for educational and gratified management (Nie Erbring, 2000). For example,
educators and students will search for Google Scholar for references and materials
for their studies and business and project teams can share their documents without
abolishing their work and to be kept safely in the network. Social networking is an
important trend among the Internet users. For example, Facebook, Twitter and
Youtube are being used as an interactive tool to socialise and interact with the world.
2. What is the World Wide Web
?
World Wide Web (WWW) is a networking system that linked the hypertext
information through the internet. It contains a web page that contains texts, images
and videos (Cooley, Mobasher Srivastava, 1999). The WWW is a collection of text
documents, which are connected to hyperlinks and URLs. The web is always
regarded as an application tool in the Internet. Most hyperlinks contain links to other
websites to download files and
Orthopedic Infection
Infection is the most dreaded complication in orthopedic surgery. It causes
increased morbidity and mortality and is a source of great harassment not only for
the patient but the doctor as well. Incidence of Surgical site infection in USA is
more than 2% [1]. Whereas in India the infection ranges from 2.5 41% [2]. This
causes an increase in the mortality rate by 2 3 times. The rate of postoperative
infection in procedures like total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement
(TKR) is 1 5%. [3]
Preoperative systemic antibiotic prophylaxis for implant surgeries in orthopaedics is
commonly used [4]. Studies show that regardless of the precautions being used,
prophylactic antibiotics do reduce the incidence of infection [1,5 7]. Three ... Show

Chipotle Mexican Grill ( Cmg )
Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) was founded in Denver, Colorado in 1993. It began
when American s were visiting fast food chains on a much more regular basis than
in years past. Places like McDonald s, Burger King, and Taco Bell initially seemed
to be competition for Chipotle. However, a recent shift towards healthy eating,
organic produce, and grass fed meats has shifted the favor towards Chipotle. At the
end of 2015, Chipotle Mexican Grillowned and operated 1,971 locations in the
United States alone. CMG also owns and operates thirteen ShopHouse Southeast
Asia chains along with being an investor in three Pizzeria Locale restaurants. Steve
Ells and Montgomery Moran are the CEO s of Chipotle, and together make over $2
million from the company. The executive team is rounded out with five other
executive officers who make up the development, finance, marketing, and director
positions. Chipotle has approximately 5,100 employees, and together the company
brought in around $475,602,000 in net income as of the end of 2015. In January of
2016, Chipotle reported that their number of shareholders had reached 1,030. The
shares are traded on the New York StockExchange, and currently the company does
not give any dividends to its shareholders. Between September of 2015 and March of
2016, Chipotle faced public scrutiny and in relation to that its stock continually
fluctuated. Certain key events led to Chipotle s stock reaching high points, however
other events and press releases led
The Effects of Power on Responsibility Essay
The Effects of Power on Responsibility
Power and responsibility have a complex relationship that is connected by factors
such as a person s morals and ethics, personality, and under what conditions the
person was raised. In a world where power can be found in many forms and in
many places, the use and abuse of power can be seen regularly. Power is not just
being the CEO of a fortune five hundred company, or being an elected political
representative, the manager of Taco Bell has power, as well as parents as they raise
their children. These are the people who have the most influence on how power is
used, and if it is used with responsibility. In the United states there are five hundred

He simply did not have the power to start a foundation for cancer. But once he
gained the power, it gave him a means to the end. Often we have ideas that would
show great amounts of responsibility, but simply cannot put them into action
because we do not have power, and in this way power has a great effect on
responsibility. Power does not always change a person s morals or responsibility, it
just gives them the opportunity to achieve greater things that they may not have been
able to accomplish before they gained their power.
An increase in responsibility will change a person s use of power because they
may do things for the good of other people that are not necessarily looking out for
themselves. In the case of Staff Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich, his level of responsibility
was increased when he became the man in charge of a squad of marines. Many
people believe that his actions were crimes against humanity, but in his situation he
used his power responsibly to try to heel the men he was responsibly for alive. An
article by Josh White of the Washington Post says:
Staff Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich, 26, told his attorney that several civilians were killed
Nov. 19 when his squad went after insurgents who were firing at them from inside a
house. The Marine said there was no vengeful massacre, but he described a house to
house hunt that went tragically awry in the middle of a chaotic battlefield.
In the circumstances, Staff Sgt. Wuterich kept the
How Does Bennett Create Humour In The History Boys
One way in which Bennett creates humour in The History Boys is through the rivalry
and disjointed ways that the Headmaster and Hector work with the boys. This is
evident repeatedly throughout the play. For example in the French scene Hector and
The Headmaster are introduced for the first time. Bennett tells the audience a
considerable amount about the personalities of Hector and the Headmaster. At the
beginning of the scene Hector seems to be very intelligent, speaking in what appears
to be fluent French, and animatedly interacting with the boys. He not only is teaching
them but they respond with vigour and enthusiasm. Hector s intelligence is further
reinforced when the Headmaster enters on page 14, and Bennett shows the audience
that Hector is not only able to overpower the Headmaster due to the fact that the...

This defeats the Headmaster immediately, with no defence being put up on his
behalf. By doing this Bennett uses one of the pupils to undermine the Headmaster,
although this time it is much more serious than making him speak a language that
he doesn t know. Dakin, a boy who can be no older than 19, manages to out wit and
manipulate a man who is supposed to be in charge of him, none the less more
intelligent, and instead is thrown by the first hurdle Dakin confronts him with which
is the hypocrisy of the situation between him and Fiona, and Hector and his pupils.
This creates a very humorous situation because Hector has vicariously outwitted the
Headmaster through Dakin. It was his teaching methods that the Headmaster
disliked so much that enabled Dakin to think in the way that he did, so even if
Hector himself didn t fight for his position, he had passed on enough knowledge and
compassion for one of his pupils to do it for
Tv and Its Effects on Teens
Television (TV) has its good side. It can be entertaining and educational, and can
open up new worlds for kids, giving them a chance to travel the globe, learn about
different cultures, and gain exposure to ideas they may never encounter in their own
community. Programs with positive role models can influence people to change
their behavior for the better. However, the reverse can also be true: Kids are likely
to learn things from TV that parents don t want them to learn. TV can affect kids
health and family life.
It s worthwhile for parents to think about what role they want TV to play in their
family. Consider:
A great deal is known about children and television, because there have been
thousands of studies on the subject. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some studies link early TV viewing with later attention problems, such as ADHD.
However, other experts disagree with these results. One study found that TV viewing
before age three slightly hurt several measures of later cognitive development, but
that between ages three and five it slightly helped reading scores [11].
The American Academy of Pediatrics takes a better safe than sorry stance on TV for
young children [12]:
Children of all ages are constantly learning new things. The first 2 years of life are
especially important in the growth and development of your child s brain. During this
time, children need good, positive interaction with other children and adults. Too
much television can negatively affect early brain development. This is especially true
at younger ages, when learning to talk and play with others is so important.
Until more research is done about the effects of TV on very young children, the
AmericanAcademy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not recommend television for children
age 2 or younger.
In addition, TV can discourage and replace reading. Reading requires much more
thinking than television, and we know that reading fosters young people s healthy
brain development. Kids growing up in families in which the TV is on always or
most of the time spend less time reading and being read to, and are less likely to be
able to read
Mother Nature In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
The Never Ending Battle: Human Nature vs. Mother Nature The definition of
Mother Nature is a personification of nature s regulation and control the processes of
nature. It is referred to as Mother Nature because of its maternal aspects as a caring
and generous character. Based off of this definition Mother Natureis falsely
characterized as a protector of mankind. In the Lord of the Flies, William Golding
seems to state that Mother Nature is indifferent to the actions of man. Although man
can be aware of nature s aspects; Mother Nature is seemingly indifferent yet
welcoming of the deaths of man. In the psychological novel the Lord of the Flies,
William Golding asserts that human natureis much worse than nature itself. Simon,...

in the sea. His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy s arms and

Piggy, the symbol of intellect, has fell victim to a crushing blow caused by Roger

Simon died as a result of resembling the small Beast no one takes the blame for his

receive forgiveness for his heinous crime he goes on a hunt to which he rapes a

Private Schools Vs. Public Schools Essay
In the United States, getting an education is very important. Children spend thirteen
years of their life learning English, history, math, science, and various other subjects
so that they may one day be a productive college student or a working class citizen.
In fact, There are 33,619 private schools in the United States, serving 5.4 million PK
12 students. Private schools account for 25 percent of the nation s schools and enroll
10 percent of all PK 12 students ( Council for American Private Education). Parents
face many issues when deciding which school is right for their child. However, the
factors that determine their choice of a private or public schoolare often the results of
various essentials that closely mirror the parent s ideology in regards to education.
Parents should send their children to a private schoolbecause private schools have
smaller class sizes, the curriculum is more challenging, and the school environment is
much safer than public schools.
Smaller class sizes are a pivotal reason as to why parents should send their children
to private school. Private schools have smaller class sizes, which allow for more
individualized instruction on various subject matters, and they improve student
teacher relationships. For instance, Small classes allow teachers to give students
more individual attention and lighten the teacher s workload, and therefore are
generally considered desirable (Choy 14). Subsequently, by having a smaller class
size, a student
The Measure Of The Shroud Of Turin
The fact is the Shroud of Turin was a comedy of errors from scientist who wanted
to badly project it as a forgery. I am not saying what it is or what it is not; but the
fact is that the rush to judgement seemed fit the agenda of specific group. Ridicule

The mechanical tests were to measure and compare the tensile strength and
elongation of several samples of individual linen fibers. The chemical tests were done
with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy,
which examined the relationship between age and a spectral properties of ancient

Similarities Between Macbeth And Lady Macduff
The quote He loves us not; He wants the natural touch: for the poor wren, the most
diminutive of birds, will fight, Her young ones in her nest, against the owl. by Lady
MacDuff strongly foreshadows the slaughter of Lady MacDuff and her children.
This quote is meant to symbolize that in nature it is natural for even a weak mother
to do all it can to defend its young.
This quote is meant to foreshadow the madness MacDuff developed in his hunt for
Macbeth. In this quote Lady MacDuff meant that her husband s infatuation and
determination to beat MacBeth would be the death of them. Lady Macduff meant
that her husband s will to find him is leaving herself and her children completely
vulnerable to the attacks of MacBeth.

The Rise Of The Railroad System
At the start of every great advancement in society it is society itself that fails to
realize the negative repercussions the advancement might bring. While the rise of the
railroad system through Texas gave plenty of beneficial attributes, from faster
transportation of goods and services to expansion of Texan towns, which helped
boom our population, it would seem that a number of things would be drawbacks
leading to the termination of many Texan ideologies. The railroad system stemmed
throughout Texasallowed many walks of life a deeper view of the Great Lone Star
state. While people from different ends of the country came seeking new life others
came seeking new fortune which lead to the demise of cowboys, instillation of cattle
drives, and the Postbellum cattle boom. In order to understand the negative attributes
that the railroad brought we must go back and bring our attention to the beginning
which includes the original cowboys.
Despite the many riveting TV dramas that paint cowboys as fast men who love
faster women we now know in order to be historically accurate, we would have to
trade these Clint Eastwood fairy tales for less exciting ones of cowboys who were
smelly lonely men who had no serious work skills. These men would consist of
workers who were generally under the age of twenty that made 30 40$ a month.
During this time period they would walk with and behind cattle for up to six weeks
ensuring safe passage to these insanely stupid creatures. When the
The New Zealand Healthcare System Essay
This assignment will demonstrate an understanding through an overview of the New
Zealand Healthcare System including its purpose, how and why it was initially
established. It will also discuss the impact that colonisation has had on MДЃori
historically and how the effects are still problematic in New Zealand s current society,
which is evident through statistical information that is available on MДЃori Health
and the socioeconomic status of the MДЃori people. It will also illustrate the
principals within Te Tiriti o Waitangi that directly relate to the way pharmacy
practices are maintained. Furthermore it will also discuss the roles of The
Pharmaceutical Management Agency (PHARMAC) and the District Health Boards
(DHBs) in delivering mechanisms for medicinedelivery to the current pharmacy
services that are provided.
The New Zealand Healthcare System is now a complex network of organisations and
people. It has undergone significant changes, developments and reforms due to
government changes since it was initially established in 1846. This was when the
first state hospitals were commissioned. The hospitals offered free services to the
indigenous MДЃori and poor and needy. This was due to increasing need with the
influx of diseases such as tuberculosis, mumps and measles that were introduced by
early European settlers into the country which MДЃori had no immunity against. By
the 1880 s government health services were more accessible for the general
population. The purpose of

Reflection Paper On Inequality
The lecture presented in class (Inequality in Education and Employment) was a
particularly salient topic for me. As part of my Bachelor s degree, in Philosophy, I
was required to present and defend a thesis. My thesis was a defense of democracy
from the problems of distributive justice. Over the course of two years, I spent
countless hours reading, writing, and debating the fine points on inequality.
Therefore, the subject matter is not something new for me, nor do I think there is a
simple solution.
Reflecting on the information from the lecture, there were various aspects of
inequality that coincided with my research; however, there were two areas that I
thought required further consideration and contemplation. First, nowhere in the
slides, in the lecture, nor in the discussions, was justice mentioned. I find that
particularly odd as the preliminary point of any inquiry into inequality should start
from the structural foundations of equality viz., justice.
Second, I was slightly confused by the slide (23) titled Workers with Disabilities
Earn Less Than Their Peers . The slide indicated that people with disabilities
(PWDs) earned 37% less pay than people without disabilities (PWODs). While I
looked at the slide s bar graph, I could visually see that the 37% figure did not
match what was on the graph. This forced me to do some quick math on what was
represented. According to the values on the slide, the actual wage gap was 21%.
While this is still significant, it is not
The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden
Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different
empires to rise up and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More
often than not, these empires fell. Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it
maintained power for decades, most of them were over thrown. Anthony Pagden,
who at the time of publication was a history professor at John Hopkins, wrote the
book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great European
Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the
British, and the Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these
particular empires justified their conquering, not only to themselves, but also to
their followers and the people who rebelled against them. Conquerors would travel
to the ends of the earth in order to obtain more land which in turn is more power.
However, in order to do this they had to justify their actions to the individuals
occupying that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they assumed were
acceptable reasons as to why an empire was more luxurious, or in other words
better , than the systems they had in place before. The most common ideology
between all of the empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being
barbaric or savage . Pagden thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology
and coupled it with small force to justify their actions and the overall concept of an

The Importance Of Deep Cryogenic Treatment

treatment followed by a double tempering at 150В°C on the erosive wear
resistance of high velocity oxy fuel (HVOF) WC 10Co 4Cr coating was evaluated.
Austenitic 304 stainless steel plates (400 mm_95 mm_7 mm) were used as
substrates. Agglomerated and sintered WC 10Co 4Cr Praxair spherical powder
with particle size ranging between 20 and 45 Вµm was used as feedstock. The
coatings were fabricated by the HVOF spray process using their own deposition
parameters. Cryogenically treated coatings displayed better erosive resistance at low
impact angles such as 30В° and both particle impact testing velocities i.e.100 m/s and

Also, refined layers with nano grains (grain size of approximately 40 nm) were
formed in the cryogenically burnished surface, in which an average hardness
increase of 9.5%, 17.5% and 24.8% within the 200 m depth are achieved in
comparison with the hardness values obtained from dry burnishing, at the
corresponding burnishing speeds of 25, 50 and 100 m/min. Refined surface layers
with ultra fine grains or nano grains could be generated during the burnishing process
due to imposed severe plastic deformation and the associated dynamic
recrystallization (DRX). These harder layers with compressive residual stresses
induced by the burnishing process also provide added benefits by enhancing wear
/corrosion resistance and increasing the fatigue life of the components. (Tillmann,
Hollingsworth et al. 2015) suggested the thermally sprayed п¬Ѓne structured WC

to protect forming tools against wear. Thermal spraying is presented as a cost
efficient and more flexible approach to protect the surface of forming tools
against wear.. The planar samples were used to ascertain the sliding and rolling wear
behavior within two standardized test methods (Ball on Disc and Taber Abraser
tests). The coated dies were smoothened by ball burnishing as well as grinding and

Conflicts Between Concessionaires And Rural Communities
Purpose of the Research
Liberia is rich in Natural resources including gold, diamond, iron ore, timber, and
vast arable Land resources. People who live in rural Lands and communities in
Liberia make up about one third of the country and depend on Land and natural
resources for their livelihoods (Knight, Siakor and Robert Lawrence Nyahn). The
mismanagement of Liberia s natural resources was one factors that led two decades of
civil crisis which lasted for 14 years and which resulted in the deaths of about 260,000
of its citizens, and damaged the country s infrastructure and basic social services. The
purpose of the study is to conducts an intensive investigation on the critical factors
impacting conflicts between concessionaires and rural communities in Liberia and
provides insights for possible solutions in solving these conflicts. Investigate the
relationships between rural communities and concessions companies and understand
the needs and concerns of the rural communities and make possible recommendations
to the relevant stakeholders for solutions using the Conflicts Analysis Tools or Model.

The Legalization Of Medical Marijuana
Introduction In recent years across the United States and in many other nations as
well, drug policy and the rationale behind these policies have started to undergo a
tremendous shift. This change in public policy is visible to most through the
ongoing legislation across America regarding the legalization of medical marijuana
in 23 states, and recreational cannabis use becoming legal in 4 states as well
(Hanson, 2015). This shift in public policy marks a significant turning point in the
view of drugs and drugculture in the United States and reflects increased public
knowledge of the less than desirable affects of the drug war mentality. Government
spending on drug control in the United States totals $35 billion per year, and
almost half a million dealers and users are currently in prisons and jails on drug
charges and yet despite this massive investment of tax dollars and government
authority, the United States still has the worst drug problem among Western
nations (Boyum Reuter, 2005). The implications of the current failings of U.S.
policy with regards to drug related offenses as well as the changes in ideology in
recent years with regards to drugs and drug users will likely lead to a shift in how
North America as a culture chooses to handle the problems and woes of drug culture.
The number of drug offenders under incarceration in America grew tenfold from
1980 to 2005 (Boyum Reuter, 2005). In the face of this fact there is strikingly little
evidence that
Taking a Look at Emmanuel College
Founded 1584 by Sir Walter Mildmay. Named after Jesus (Emmanuel). Sister
College Exeter College Oxford. Men and Women Undergraduates 487
Postgraduates 140. Emmanuel College, affectionately referred to as Emma, only
ever gives the casual passer by a brief glimpse of its gorgeous site, keeping most of
its vast spaces a secret. Hidden behind the college owned houses and high walls, is
a lush and green site complete with a lake containing giant fish and cherished
ducks; neither ever having featured on the hall menu. There is some dispute with
Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford as to who produces the most intelligent mallards in
the country. The informal gardens, known as the Paddock, provide the social
epicentre in the warmer weather and students are allowed to work and play on the
grass. This contrasts with the formal Front Court, which is sacrosanct and only
ducks and the occasional fellow are allowed to venture. The snowmen that appear,
as if by magic, in the bleak mid winter nights are tolerated as long as they deliver
their essays on time. Strong equal opportunities policy The college is right in the city
centre next to the bus station and is home to 140 postgraduates and 487
undergraduates, in a roughly equal gender divide. Women were first admitted in
1979. Emmanuel boasts an excellent academic record, which results in around five
times as many applications as there are places. It has a strong equal opportunities
policy encouraging a diverse and vibrant community

Compare the ways the distinctively visual is created in Run Lola Run and in ONE
other related text of your own choosing?
Distinctively visual is one which the composer of the text uses visual, spoken and
written language to position the reader to elicit their ideas. This is a powerful means
to enhance the appeal of texts for viewers. Tom Tykwers film Run Lola Run includes
Distinctively Visual scenes throughout the whole film using Symbolism. The
exhilarating film takes the viewer through an intensely fast paced journey to find an
answer to Lola s boyfriend s problem. Lola finds herself making life altering

In addition the repetition of Lola tossing up the phone at the beginning of each run
symbolises the toss of a coin, emphasising the beginning of the game and chance.
Colour is a symbolic material in various sections of the film, as it functions as
connecting visual and thematic threads which allude to connotations of danger,
love, passion shaping her as a dynamic, charismatic character. Lola s fiery red hair
highlights her speed, as she nearly runs through the entire movie. There are scenes
where Lola and Manni are together and are seemingly illuminating red light, which
exhibits their love and passion. The colour red is symbolically used in the film to
emphasize certain aspects of Lola s life that are maintained in the use of props. In
the beginning, the call to Lola is answered on a red phone, which highlights the
urgency of Manni s call and sets the precedence for the symbolic use of red
throughout the movie. The recurring motif of the red ambulance at the end of each
run represents urgency and tension. The red accents the rushed plotline, the love
between Lola and Manni, and the blood of them both.
Symbolism is also used in the idea time in various areas of the film. At the start of the
film, there is a terrifying clock with Gargoyle like creatures surrounding it. This
represents that time is the controlling
The Dangers Of Cell Phones
Just one more minute, all smart phone owners have told themselves as they ignore
their daily tasks. Cell phones have made everyone, just a click away. These tools
have become a part of our daily lives whether we want it or not. We are becoming
attached to our cell phones. Everyone uses smartphone on a daily basis, but when
is it too much. The amount of time spent on cell phones is crazy high. In U.S.
Consumers Now Spend 5 Hours per Day on Mobile Devices Sarah Perez explains
that We re up to 5 hours a day on our mobile devices . That is crazy high that is
almost half of the day. With that much time on a cell phone, we could be doing so
much more with our time. For example, face to face communication, going outside
and enjoying the outdoors, learning something new, work on a hobby that doesn t
involve a screen. Students spend six to eight hours at school every day out of a
fourteen hour day, and five on phones. That leaves one to three hours for their
other activities, including extracurricular and school work. There isn t a lot of time
in there for interaction to other people or being with your family, but there is time
for you and your cell phone. Cell phones are highly addictive, even like a drug. In
the 2016 article Understanding Cell Phone Addiction Lena Firestone explains how

The Turn Of The Screw Literary Analysis
The novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James is a rather simple story when
viewing solely the external plot. The governess charged with looking out for two
children takes care of the children, but as the story progresses her behavior becomes
more and more strange and eventually culminates in her inadvertently killing one of
the children. However, practically all of the major plot points involve the governess
s internal state her descent into insanity. The slow decline of the governess s mind is
carefully crafted by Henry Jamesand even causes the reader to question what is real
and what is not. The author s emphasis on internal events in the novella has the same
effect as typical plotlines of this genre that rely almost exclusively on gore,
bloodshed, tragedy, and other external events to provide the suspense and excitement
of the novel. Henry James begins to construct the internal plot as if it is an external
plot when the first ghostsighting takes place as the governess is taking a stroll around
the grounds of the house. As she is walking around imagining meeting the man of her
dreams, [her] imagination had, in a flash, turned real. He did stand there! but high up,

She snapped. The conflict inside the governess s head is not resolved. In the final
scene Miles s little heart, dispossessed, had stopped (87). The governess s insanity
has peaked, and we now see her as an incredibly deranged lunatic. In the final scene,
again, she sees ghosts that are present inside her head, but are written about as if they
are real. These internal ghosts add to the excitement of this final incident. Her
internal insanity essentially becomes external when she strangles, Miles, the boy she
was supposed to look out for. The internal conflict of the governess s insanity finally,
becomes external instead of just being written as if it is an external event. Her
insanity culminates into the action of killing
Is Hemisphere Is Specialised For The Perception Of Emotion
Using Chimeric Faces to Understand the Lateralisation of Emotion
Report by: Tin Kai Yeh

Lab 130 (Demonstrator: Victoria Alogna)
30th April, 2015
Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate which hemisphere is specialised for
the perception of emotion. It was hypothesised that participants will judge
chimeric faces with smile presented in the left visual field as happier more often
than chimeric faces with the smile presented in the right visual field. Twenty six
psychology students were asked to judge chimeric faces with one half being a
smiling expression and the other half with a neutral expression. The images were
presented in their left and right visual field. Over 28 experimental trials the
participants were asked to judge which face they thought looked happier. The
percentage of chimeric faces judged as happier for both left and right visual field
was recorded. The hypothesis was supported: chimeric faces with smile presented in
the left visual field as happier more often than chimeric faces with the smile presented
in the right visual field.
The human brain is a mystery that has been studied for centuries in attempt to
understand how it functions. Scientists first thought that the brain was a structure
that functioned a whole. It was in the early 1600 s where the first ideas of
localisation of function in the brain started. At this time Rene Descartes discovered a
tiny structure called the pineal
Dolly Parton Is So Much More Than What People See Her
As
Dolly Parton is so much more than what people see her as. She is much more than
a Barbie doll, that is why I am going to inform the class about Dolly Parton s early
life, her career, and about information that most people do not know about her.
Additionally, I want to make the class more familiar with some of Dolly Partons most
sensible words, which serve as valuable quotes to live by. I want people to know
how wonderful Dolly Parton is so that less people will possess negative opinion
about her. Dolly Parton proves that there is so much more to people than just their
looks.
To begin, Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946 in Sevier County, Tennessee.
She is the fourth of twelve children of Robert and Avie. Furthermore, Dolly Parton
described her family as dirt poor, which is expressed in her song A Coat of Many
Colors (Perone, James). From the start, music was extremely important to Dolly
Parton. She first started performing in Church with her family. It has even been
noted that she, ...loved performing since [she] was big enough to wrestle [her] little
brothers and sisters into sitting long enough for [her] to sing them [her] latest
musical masterpiece. Also, as a child she sang on the local radio and television
program in Eastern Tennessee. At the age of thirteen, she recorded her single Puppy
Love and appeared at the Grand Ole Opry. You know that someone is going to go far
in life if they are that young and have already accomplished what most wish they
could.

The Jonbenet Case And The Six Year Old Beauty Queen
The JonBenet Case Several analyses have been conducted when it comes to the
JonBenet case, in which it is assumed that the parents of JonBenet murder the six
year old beauty queen. Due to the investigation that was conducted the case is still
unresolved. A different outcome could have arisen if the initial policeofficers and
investigators would have focused on looking for other suspects other than JonBenet s
parents, secured the scene, and separated and interrogated the people inside the scene.
The forensic evidencethat was discovered that day was unreliable due to the
standard procedures that were not followed. The first step in maintaining a crime
scene integrity is to properly secure the scene and the immediate vicinity around it.
If a crime scene is properly secured unnecessary disturbance and contamination of
the evidence is reduced. Immediately after the scene is secured an entry log is kept
to account for any person who is inside or is wanting to go inside. Shoe impressions
may be asked for comparison if any latent shoeprints are found. However, this
protocol was not observed in the murder of JonBenet. The scene was left unsecured,
and individuals were entering as they pleased. Secondly, investigators did not follow
the standard operation procedures compromising the crime
Analysis Of Paul Laurence Dunbar s Sympathy Essay
Paul Laurence Dunbar was an African American writer who lived during the late
1800s. This tumultuous time period was filled with racism that limited the freedom
and the voice of African Americans everywhere. This racism existed not only in
the day to day lives of African Americans, but also in the sphere of literature and,
thus, severely impacted Dunbar s life. Sympathy , published in 1899, is a poem that
addresses the difference in treatment of white Americans and African Americans as
well as African Americans desire for freedom from both a personal standpoint as a
writer and also as a public figure speaking on behalf of the African American
community.
Sympathy is a reflection of Dunbar s own struggle as an African American poet
during the late 19th century. During this time, African Americans were judged as
socially and economically inferior and lacking the tools of upward class mobility:
proper English speech, literacy, and a Western education (Roman 33). This view of
African Americans was translated into the literary field by the leading elite literary
figure William Dean Howells, who believed that dialect poetry was the only form of
authentic and proper African America speech (Roman 33). Howells beliefs led to
editors choosing to only publish dialect poetry which forced Dunbar to discontinue
writing in his preferred literary style of Standard English. In this way, the editors
became the cage that held the bird. Dunbar contrasts the idea of the caged bird
The History and Breakdown of the Glass Ceiling Essay
The History and Breakdown of the Glass Ceiling
The term the glass ceiling first came into use in 1986 when two Wall Street Journal
reporters coined the phrase to describe the invisible barrier that blocks women from
the top jobs in corporate America. (Glass Ceiling Commission, Successful Initiatives
). Since then the metaphor has also been applied to the barriers of minorities. The
Glass Ceiling Effect has been around for approximately 50 years. In my opinion it is
on its way out the door. Corporate Officers and Senior Management are noticing the
merits of women and minorities and doing something about it.
The glass ceiling, in its simplest form, is the theory that women and minorities do not

The 1964 Act prohibits employers, unions, and employment agencies from
discriminating against job applicants and employees on the basis of race, sex, age,
handicap, religion, or national origin. The law prohibits discrimination in hiring,
firing, discipline, compensation, and other conditions of employment. (Reader s
Digest, Know Your Rights ,1997). The Civil Rights Actof 1964 is the backbone of
efforts to eliminate employment discrimination. (Glass Ceiling Commission.
Enforcement Techniques , 1993). The Act allows victims of discrimination in the
workplace to privately litigate claims. The Act started the advancement of women
and minorities in the workplace. Until this point women were in the workforce
steadily, but not advancing. Minorities were also present, but almost never in
positions of visibility. Women and minorities in senior management were almost
unheard of. Employers are now forced to review and revise policy and procedures for
hiring and promoting within their respective companies. They are now accountable to
the government and liable to the employee in the event of discriminatory behavior.
At this time and since then, several agencies have been organized to enforce the Act
and prohibit discrimination. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission came
into effect to enforce antidiscrimination laws. The EEOC investigates allegations of
bias, negotiates agreements after charges are filed, and occasionally goes to
Child Abuse in India
The desperate conditions affecting the rural as well as the urban poor in India are
forcing growing numbers of children to toil often in subhuman conditions. They

Sacagawea Really A Great Help To Lewis And Clark

Was Sacagawea really a great help to Lewis and Clark on the expedition? Lewis and
Clark are explorers they were able to make maps of the land they explore.
Sacagawea is a indian and she helped Lewis and Clark to navigate themand on the
expedition. Sacagawea did not get anything out of helping Lewis and Clark on the
expedition. I agree that Sacagaweaplayed an important part in the expedition. First,
Lewis and Clark were chosen to go on a journey to make a map for Jefferson the
president. He wanted the expedition to prepare the way for the extensions of the
American fur trade and to advance geographical knowledge.
It refers to my claim because they would need more help for the rough journey
ahead. Sacagawea became an invaluable member of the expedition. This supports
my claim because Sacagawea helped Lewis and Clark get past obstacles in their
expedition for more land. Their expedition had only just began. ... Show more content

Sacagawea saved many of the expedition s scientific instruments, specimens, and
even Lewis and Clark s journals when the boat Charbonneau steering almost turned

this proves that Sacagawea was of great help. Their journey was coming to an
Essay on Comparing the Defective Rulers in Henry IV and...
Defective Rulers in Henry IV and Richard II
It has been shown again and again throughout history and literature that if there is a
perfect human he is not also the perfect ruler. Those traits which we hold as good,
such as the following of some sort of moral code, interfere with the necessity of
detachment in a ruler. In both Henry IV and Richard II, Shakespeare explores what
properties must be present in a good ruler. Those who are imperfect morally, who
take into account only self interest and not honor or what is appropriate, rise to rule,
and stay in power.
Throughout Richard II, Bolingbroke is up against King Richard. Richard is, to a
considerable degree, the morally void opportunist: he does after ... Show more content

while he remains blameless and pure. Bolingbroke is the superior ruler because he
combines Richard s total lack of morality with deception.
The slip that nearly costs Bolingbroke ( Henry ) his crown in Henry IV is a
violation of the principle that got Henry the crown. For a moment the king is
angered by Hotspur s prancing about his denied prisoners, and lets Hotspur know
the reason for his ignoring Mortimer s capture. Henry openly tells Hotspur and the
crown of nobles present that he does not ever intend to pay Mortimer s ransom,
and calls Hotspur an enemy to the crown for expecting his brother s ransom. In a
moment of anger, Henry has openly displayed his total lack of sympathy for the
separated brothers, and called both threats to his kingship. And he walks away!
Henry could easily have maintained control here by simply matching Hotspur s
appearances and eloquence, and promising and delaying Mortimer s ransom. Instead
he lays open his Machiavellian intentions and walks off after laying down a threat.
His anger here is in some ways a virtue,
Metropolitan Museum Of Art Analysis
This paper will analyze the iconography of two medieval works from the collection
of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Both of them depict the appearance of the
resurrected Jesus Christ to his follower Mary Magdalene (Gospel of John 20:11
17). According to the Bible, three days after Christ died by crucifixion and was
buried, he was resurrected. On that day, MaryMagdalene came to his tomb early in
the morning, alone, and found the tomb empty. As she was weeping in the garden
outside the tomb, she recognized a man she thought was a gardener, and asked him
what had become of Jesusbody. When the man spoke her name, Mary Magdalene
recognized that he was Jesus Christ, who had been resurrected. As she reached out to
embrace Jesus, he motioned for her to stay back, saying Do not touch me, because he
had not yet ascended into heaven.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tapestry was woven of wool, silk, and gilt metal wrapped thread between 1500
and 1520 CE. It presents Jesus standing just right of center, in front of a large fruit
tree, with Mary Magdalene kneeling to his right. Because Mary and Jesus are
centered horizontally in the composition, and they are both large (between 2 and 3
feet tall), the viewer can determine that they are the primary subjects in the
tapestry. Christ is wearing a red robe, and the wounds on his hands and feet from
where he was nailed to the cross are visible. These signs identify the figure as
Christ, indicating his mortality and recent death. He is holding a shovel in his left
hand, which explains Mary s mistake in identifying him as a gardener. Behind Jesus,
in the upper right corner of the tapestry, is a small cliff with an open cave and a
boulder sitting in front of it. This cave represents Jesus

  • 2. Variations in the Experience of Depression Gender Differences in Depression This focus elaborates the place of gender in determining depression levels. It states that females experience twice as much depression as men. This is as a result of social forces and cognitive behavioral differences between women and men. The focus notes that women in communities with distinct traditional gender roles tend to have higher stress levels than societies where there are no major divides between gender roles. There are various factors that cause women to have higher stress levels than men: First, girls experience more childhood sexual violence than boys, secondly, in adulthood, women are at a higher risk of being exposed to stressors such as poverty than men, thirdly, acceptance of social roles hit hard on women; for example, girls worry about their body image and how boys perceive them. Fourthly, social roles hinder women from pursuing their dreams in many communities; lastly, women give high weight to interpersonal relationships such that when the relationships do not work out for them they get disappointed. The issue of women experiencing higher incidence of depression is real. This is because of the natural differences that make women the weaker sex; this makes them mores susceptible to depression. Moreover, gender disparities imminent in some societies discriminate against women; this discrimination makes them more prone to depression. However, with more and more societies getting civilized and embracing gender equity, the
  • 3. Kate The Great Analysis Kate the Great by Meg Cabot reveals that people are not always the way they seem. Kate makes a fantasy world about her life for Jenny to believe in her perspective. Kate and Jenny have always been best friends ever since the two were young. The both of them would always hang out with each other have sleepovers, go to the pool together, the library, and went everywhere else together. They were inseparable as the author said. Although, throughout all of their adventures Kate has been telling Jenny about her experience in high school. Keep in mind that Kate is older by a couple of years than Jenny, therefore, Kate has an influence on what to teach Jenny when she gets into high school. For example, a Jenny had a memory of Kate had told ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Especially this one time I was taking archery lessons. My teacher looked at me with grieved face since I had such skinny arms and I was so tiny. Little did he know I went to the gym almost every day after school. I remember I told him I don t need to have such a light bow. A light bow was a small bow that was extremely light used for children. My instructor expected me to be absolutely terrible when testing came. He figured that since I was skinny I had no upper body strength at all. However, when testing came he observed me on every shot that s when he realized I had so much more potential and he put me in his advance program. At school, I don t talk much about myself. I m mostly anonymous around my peers. Many first impressions of me believe that I m petite therefore they can down on me. However, some students have seen me at a Chicago Tenri Judo Dojo. Here we train for self defense and martial arts. One of my peers saw me train and found out I was the main leader of the elite group. After, the word came out everyone stop looking down on me seeing me as a dainty girl. Kate was seen as a very popular and outgoing girl in high school however she was really a loner and had no friends. Connecting with me numerous people thought just because I was small I was very fragile. In all honesty, people are not always the always they seem. As a final point, while I start growing up
  • 4. Pierre Elliot Trudeau s War Measures Act Just watch me are the defiant words uttered by Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau in response to the Front de liberation du Quebec (FLQ), a Marxist group captaining Quebec independence through indiscriminate political violence. His words are not those of an iron fisted strongman, despite how strong and undetailed his comments were at the time, but those of a calculated and well versed leader, whose decisions came at the behest of prominent Quebecpoliticians. The FLQ instilled a decade of social violence in the streets of Quebec by systemically championing the struggles of French minorities who perceived unjust treatment in everyday life. Their qualms quickly evolved from protest to a Marxist movement, which incorporated elements... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... LaPorte was later killed in the first assassination since Thomas d Arcy McGee and Cross s life was traded for immunity for some FLQ members. These actions set off the only implementation of the act in non wartime eras, reinforcing the limits of justice and political process. LaPorte was not an enemy of the group, rather a Quebec minister of labour. Upon his death, it was stated, LaPorte was killed and left in the drunk of an abandoned car. In addition to the murder of LaPorte, the FLQ s actions were responsible for the deaths of seven people (Gurr, Ross, 1989). The murder of an elected diplomat, in execution style displayed the absolute, unwavering need for Trudeau to rule with absolute power. The FLQ had grown powerful enough to kill elected politicians and Trudeau needed to send a military message that there would not be a violation of Canadian ideals. The military stance was an effective message and provided necessary backup to police forces to deal with the threat of selective assassination. This response was as moral as it was military, and enforced confidence in both Canada s military, but also Trudeau. His actions could dismantle and scatter the youth of the FLQ, and brought

Maintenance Of International Peace And Security The exact phrase maintenance of international peace and security is used eight times in the United Nations Charter, but now almost seventy years after the founding of the organization the international organization s competence in pursuit of this lofty goal is still subject to debate. The charter of the United Nationsgives the Security Council the sole power determine the existence of a threat to world peace and prescribe course of action needed to be taken against it. The five permanent members of the Security Council each have the power to veto any action by the council. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Collective security was a principal goal of the League of Nations and its principal failure. When Japan invaded Manchuria and Italy invaded Ethiopia, the League condemned the actions, but none of its members mobilized military force to rollback the aggressors. Unlike the League, the United Nations has united the militaries of its several of its members beneath its banner to defeat an aggressive state. However such action has only occurred twice and only when the proverbial stars aligned. When North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950, a young UN was faced with the first real test of its commitment to collective security. An emergency session of the Security Council sans the Soviet Union passed a resolution drafted by the American delegation, which asserted that North Korea has violated the United Nations charter by invading South Korea and authorized the use of force. A coalition force under American leadership and the banner of the United Nations was mobilized. It successively repelled the assault, which had nearly destroyed the fledgling South Korean republic and pushed back North Korean forces to their original borders. The American dominated force continued its advance in attempt to destroy the North Korean state (Stoessinger, 69 85). This new chapter of the war was in violation of the UN charter. Article 2 of the United Nations charter prohibits both it and its member states from the use of force
  • 7. How Ceramic Cutting Tools Have Been Around For Over 100 Years David Golding Term Paper Mech 4320 Dr. Lewis Advanced Cutting Materials Ceramic cutting tools have been around for over 100 years. The most common materials used prior to this were iron and steel. These metals are effective in cutting but have limitations that ceramics do not. There are many different types of materials used in the production of ceramic based cutting tools. The production of ceramics have seen various advancements since its birth, and continues to be more dependable as new technologies are applied to lower cost and boost efficiency in development. Advanced cutting ceramics is a $30 million (US) industry per the Department of Energy and has seen increased growth in the last 10 years. Alumina (гЂ–AlгЂ—_2 O_3) and Silicon Nitride (гЂ–SiгЂ—_3 N_4) are most commonly found in a ceramic cutting material. Their attributes differ for their own specific purpose, but they all have the same core characteristics. They all demonstrate elevated hardness, strength, and thermal conductivity. Thermal conductivity is one of the main advantages in using ceramics over other materials. Ceramics can withstand temperatures over 4000℉ in its operation, while Carbide can only reach 1600℉. Cutting materials at this heat allows for the material being cut to be softened, allowing for a smoother, easier pass. These high temperatures are unattainable for carbide tools because they exceed its melting point. Ideal machining temperatures (e.g., 2200В°F for nickel alloys) can be accommodated by

Analysis Of The Hard Nut By Mark Morris It is incredibly hard to take a classic, a piece known by thousands, recognizable by the first few notes of music, and change a single thing without inducing wrath. The Hard Nut by Mark Morris is a contemporary dance piece choreographed in the early 1990s. It is a piece based off of the Nutcracker, following a slightly altered story, though keeping the original music and much of the original concept. The dance focused on will be The Waltz of the Snowflakes. This dance, in particular, reflects concepts of beauty beyond gender, while also reflecting how the concepts of gender were challenged during the time period that this was originally choreographed and performed in, reflected through both the choreography and the set. The Hard Nut is a stunning piece of contemporary balletalters the original concepts of the Nutcracker while still honoring the original. The modernized version is meant to take place in possibly 1960s or 1970s, opposed to the Victorian Era most use, but the setting isn t the only thing that is modernized in this piece. The Waltz of the Snowflakes is a fan favorite of the original Nutcracker, where the snowflakes, donned in beautiful white tutus, dance around Clara and the prince, creating a stunning winter scene. The original and the modernized version do have the costuming in common, which wouldn t be surprising was it not for the dancers involved. While the Waltz of the Snowflakes is traditionally a rather feminine piece, Mark Morris chose here to use the entire ensemble, regardless of gender, in the dance, all of whom wore the same white tutu costumes with headpieces that further hid their gender and sex. Additionally, the choreography in the dance, unlike most ballet pieces, is not separated by gender. Each dancer dances the same choreography regardless of their sex or gender. The choice of contemporary ballet is perfect for the message and concepts behind the piece, taking a story, or long held dance rules, and bending them to modern times while still protecting the integrity of the original piece or style. The lack of separation in this piece is a stunning reflection of the concept that gender or sex has no correlation with beauty. The choreography in this piece is gorgeous, even

Smaller class sizes are a pivotal reason as to why parents should send their children to private school. Private schools have smaller class sizes, which allow for more individualized instruction on various subject matters, and they improve student teacher relationships. For instance, Small classes allow teachers to give students more individual attention and lighten the teacher s workload, and therefore are generally considered desirable (Choy 14). Subsequently, by having a smaller class size, a student

While the rise of the railroad system through Texas gave plenty of beneficial attributes, from faster transportation of goods and services to expansion of Texan towns, which helped boom our population, it would seem that a number of things would be drawbacks leading to the termination of many Texan ideologies. The railroad system stemmed throughout Texasallowed many walks of life a deeper view of the Great Lone Star state. While people from different ends of the country came seeking new life others came seeking new fortune which lead to the demise of cowboys, instillation of cattle drives, and the Postbellum cattle boom. In order to understand the negative attributes that the railroad brought we must go back and bring our attention to the beginning which includes the original cowboys. Despite the many riveting TV dramas that paint cowboys as fast men who love faster women we now know in order to be historically accurate, we would have to trade these Clint Eastwood fairy tales for less exciting ones of cowboys who were smelly lonely men who had no serious work skills. These men would consist of workers who were generally under the age of twenty that made 30 40$ a month. During this time period they would walk with and behind cattle for up to six weeks ensuring safe passage to these insanely stupid creatures. When the

As part of my Bachelor s degree, in Philosophy, I was required to present and defend a thesis. My thesis was a defense of democracy from the problems of distributive justice. Over the course of two years, I spent countless hours reading, writing, and debating the fine points on inequality. Therefore, the subject matter is not something new for me, nor do I think there is a simple solution. Reflecting on the information from the lecture, there were various aspects of inequality that coincided with my research; however, there were two areas that I thought required further consideration and contemplation. First, nowhere in the slides, in the lecture, nor in the discussions, was justice mentioned. I find that particularly odd as the preliminary point of any inquiry into inequality should start from the structural foundations of equality viz., justice. Second, I was slightly confused by the slide (23) titled Workers with Disabilities Earn Less Than Their Peers . The slide indicated that people with disabilities (PWDs) earned 37% less pay than people without disabilities (PWODs). While I looked at the slide s bar graph, I could visually see that the 37% figure did not match what was on the graph. This forced me to do some quick math on what was represented. According to the values on the slide, the actual wage gap was 21%. While this is still significant, it is not
  • 36. The World And Empires By Anthony Pagden Peoples and Empires Throughout history there have been a multitude of different empires to rise up and conquer land, along with the people inhabiting that land. More often than not, these empires fell. Whether the empire was quickly abolished, or it maintained power for decades, most of them were over thrown. Anthony Pagden, who at the time of publication was a history professor at John Hopkins, wrote the book Peoples and Empires in 2003 to explain the history of the once Great European Empires . These empires included, but are not limited to, the French, the Spanish, the British, and the Roman Empire. One major idea of the content focuses on how these particular empires justified their conquering, not only to themselves, but also to their followers and the people who rebelled against them. Conquerors would travel to the ends of the earth in order to obtain more land which in turn is more power. However, in order to do this they had to justify their actions to the individuals occupying that land. In doing so, they fabricated what they assumed were acceptable reasons as to why an empire was more luxurious, or in other words better , than the systems they had in place before. The most common ideology between all of the empires was the simple idea of being civilized versus being barbaric or savage . Pagden thoroughly explains how the empires used this ideology and coupled it with small force to justify their actions and the overall concept of an empire: They

Refined surface layers with ultra fine grains or nano grains could be generated during the burnishing process due to imposed severe plastic deformation and the associated dynamic recrystallization (DRX). These harder layers with compressive residual stresses induced by the burnishing process also provide added benefits by enhancing wear /corrosion resistance and increasing the fatigue life of the components. • 39. The Legalization Of Medical Marijuana Introduction In recent years across the United States and in many other nations as well, drug policy and the rationale behind these policies have started to undergo a tremendous shift. This change in public policy is visible to most through the ongoing legislation across America regarding the legalization of medical marijuana in 23 states, and recreational cannabis use becoming legal in 4 states as well (Hanson, 2015). This shift in public policy marks a significant turning point in the view of drugs and drugculture in the United States and reflects increased public knowledge of the less than desirable affects of the drug war mentality. Government spending on drug control in the United States totals $35 billion per year, and almost half a million dealers and users are currently in prisons and jails on drug charges and yet despite this massive investment of tax dollars and government authority, the United States still has the worst drug problem among Western nations (Boyum Reuter, 2005). The implications of the current failings of U.S. policy with regards to drug related offenses as well as the changes in ideology in recent years with regards to drugs and drug users will likely lead to a shift in how North America as a culture chooses to handle the problems and woes of drug culture. The number of drug offenders under incarceration in America grew tenfold from 1980 to 2005 (Boyum Reuter, 2005). In the face of this fact there is strikingly little evidence that

There is some dispute with Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford as to who produces the most intelligent mallards in the country. The informal gardens, known as the Paddock, provide the social epicentre in the warmer weather and students are allowed to work and play on the grass. This contrasts with the formal Front Court, which is sacrosanct and only ducks and the occasional fellow are allowed to venture. The snowmen that appear, as if by magic, in the bleak mid winter nights are tolerated as long as they deliver their essays on time. Women were first admitted in 1979. Emmanuel boasts an excellent academic record, which results in around five times as many applications as there are places. The governess charged with looking out for two children takes care of the children, but as the story progresses her behavior becomes more and more strange and eventually culminates in her inadvertently killing one of the children. However, practically all of the major plot points involve the governess s internal state her descent into insanity. The slow decline of the governess s mind is carefully crafted by Henry Jamesand even causes the reader to question what is real and what is not. The author s emphasis on internal events in the novella has the same effect as typical plotlines of this genre that rely almost exclusively on gore, bloodshed, tragedy, and other external events to provide the suspense and excitement of the novel. It was hypothesised that participants will judge chimeric faces with smile presented in the left visual field as happier more often than chimeric faces with the smile presented in the right visual field. Twenty six psychology students were asked to judge chimeric faces with one half being a smiling expression and the other half with a neutral expression. The images were presented in their left and right visual field. Over 28 experimental trials the participants were asked to judge which face they thought looked happier. The percentage of chimeric faces judged as happier for both left and right visual field was recorded. The hypothesis was supported: chimeric faces with smile presented in the left visual field as happier more often than chimeric faces with the smile presented in the right visual field. This tumultuous time period was filled with racism that limited the freedom and the voice of African Americans everywhere. This racism existed not only in the day to day lives of African Americans, but also in the sphere of literature and, thus, severely impacted Dunbar s life. Sympathy , published in 1899, is a poem that addresses the difference in treatment of white Americans and African Americans as well as African Americans desire for freedom from both a personal standpoint as a writer and also as a public figure speaking on behalf of the African American community. Sympathy is a reflection of Dunbar s own struggle as an African American poet during the late 19th century. During this time, African Americans were judged as socially and economically inferior and lacking the tools of upward class mobility: proper English speech, literacy, and a Western education (Roman 33). This view of African Americans was translated into the literary field by the leading elite literary figure William Dean Howells, who believed that dialect poetry was the only form of authentic and proper African America speech (Roman 33). Howells beliefs led to editors choosing to only publish dialect poetry which forced Dunbar to discontinue writing in his preferred literary style of Standard English. In this way, the editors became the cage that held the bird. Dunbar contrasts the idea of the caged bird

Lewis and Clark are explorers they were able to make maps of the land they explore. Sacagawea is a indian and she helped Lewis and Clark to navigate themand on the expedition. Sacagawea did not get anything out of helping Lewis and Clark on the expedition. I agree that Sacagaweaplayed an important part in the expedition. First, Lewis and Clark were chosen to go on a journey to make a map for Jefferson the president. He wanted the expedition to prepare the way for the extensions of the American fur trade and to advance geographical knowledge. It refers to my claim because they would need more help for the rough journey ahead. Sacagawea became an invaluable member of the expedition. This supports my claim because Sacagawea helped Lewis and Clark get past obstacles in their expedition for more land. Their expedition had only just began. ... Not only was her knowledge important to the success of the expedition but her courage as well. This pertains to the claim because Sacagawea had been to this place and grew up there. Defective Rulers in Henry IV and Richard II It has been shown again and again throughout history and literature that if there is a perfect human he is not also the perfect ruler. Those traits which we hold as good, such as the following of some sort of moral code, interfere with the necessity of detachment in a ruler. In both Henry IV and Richard II, Shakespeare explores what properties must be present in a good ruler. Those who are imperfect morally, who take into account only self interest and not honor or what is appropriate, rise to rule, and stay in power. Throughout Richard II, Bolingbroke is up against King Richard. Richard is, to a considerable degree, the morally void opportunist: he does after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My Lord of Westminster, be it your charge To keep him safely till his day of trial. May it please you, lords, to grant the Commons suit? Bolingbroke: Fetch hither Richard, that in common view He may surrender; so we shall proceed Without suspicion. while he remains blameless and pure. Bolingbroke is the superior ruler because he combines Richard s total lack of morality with deception. The slip that nearly costs Bolingbroke ( Henry ) his crown in Henry IV is a violation of the principle that got Henry the crown. For a moment the king is angered by Hotspur s prancing about his denied prisoners, and lets Hotspur know the reason for his ignoring Mortimer s capture. Henry openly tells Hotspur and the crown of nobles present that he does not ever intend to pay Mortimer s ransom, and calls Hotspur an enemy to the crown for expecting his brother s ransom. In a moment of anger, Henry has openly displayed his total lack of sympathy for the separated brothers, and called both threats to his kingship. And he walks away! Henry could easily have maintained control here by simply matching Hotspur s appearances and eloquence, and promising and delaying Mortimer s ransom. Instead he lays open his Machiavellian intentions and walks off after laying down a threat. His anger here is in some ways a virtue,

Both of them depict the appearance of the resurrected Jesus Christ to his follower Mary Magdalene (Gospel of John 20:11 17). According to the Bible, three days after Christ died by crucifixion and was buried, he was resurrected. On that day, MaryMagdalene came to his tomb early in the morning, alone, and found the tomb empty. As she was weeping in the garden outside the tomb, she recognized a man she thought was a gardener, and asked him what had become of Jesusbody. When the man spoke her name, Mary Magdalene recognized that he was Jesus Christ, who had been resurrected. As she reached out to embrace Jesus, he motioned for her to stay back, saying Do not touch me, because he had not yet ascended into heaven.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tapestry was woven of wool, silk, and gilt metal wrapped thread between 1500 and 1520 CE. It presents Jesus standing just right of center, in front of a large fruit tree, with Mary Magdalene kneeling to his right. Because Mary and Jesus are centered horizontally in the composition, and they are both large (between 2 and 3 feet tall), the viewer can determine that they are the primary subjects in the tapestry. Christ is wearing a red robe, and the wounds on his hands and feet from where he was nailed to the cross are visible. These signs identify the figure as Christ, indicating his mortality and recent death. He is holding a shovel in his left hand, which explains Mary s mistake in identifying him as a gardener. Behind Jesus, in the upper right corner of the tapestry, is a small cliff with an open cave and a boulder sitting in front of it. This cave represents Jesus
