If you walk into a room only to be met with silent stares then there s a good chance they know
something you don t. If your friends seem to shy away from you, it probably means something s up.
Your company is going through a merger After a merger, it s not uncommon for a company to lay off a
few or sometimes massive amounts of employees. That s because mergers generally take place for the
purpose of joining two or more companies to achieve greater efficiencies of scale and productivity.
Back in 2005 when Procter Gamble announced that it would buy Gillette for $57 billion, 6,000 people
were slated to lose their jobs once the company joined. The reason why, suggests Peter Cappelli,
director of Wharton s Center for Human Resources, University of Pennsylvania is because the
investors focus on costs, which generally means cutting workers to save money. So, if your hearing
rumors about mergers, then sit down with your boss and have a good heart to heart about your future
with the company. Going through merger suggests it s time to clean house, and that could mean
dropping you from payroll. Your boss goes to your subordinates for information You were once a go to
person for your boss. But lately, all signs point towards being left out of the loop. Most companies
have a clear chain of command. When it s disturbed, and your boss goes to subordinates for
information or work that he could easily get from you, then your position may soon

Honey Bees Persuasive Speech
Once upon a time there was a bee. The bees name is Bob. His mom was teaching him how to
pollinate. As he flew from flower to flower a bird flew by. He asked his mom if other animals
pollinate. Yes, they do. His mom said. Why do us bees have ultraviolet vision? he asked. So we can
see nectar guides She answered, then said. Aren t the colors pretty on the flower? Why do we
pollinate? He asked. So we can make honey.
Hi Today I m here to talk to you about... Bees! Not just bees but also Flower color and Nectar guides.
Do you know what honey is made of? Do you know which color bees cannot see? Do you know what
colors Hummingbirds like? Do flowers have design to show the pollinators where the nectar is? I am
going to answer these questions... ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They make honey from nectar. When they fly to get nectar from a flower, they get pollen on their
bodies, so when they fly to another flower they pollinate!  Some people keep bees as pets! (Not
actually, they keep them to make honey!) Bees are soaring insects. Bees have six legs and four wings.
Bees make honey and beeswax. There is a great deal of bees that are found in most of the world.
Flower Color
Bees love flowers that are white, yellow, orange, blue, pink, and all the colors in between. Bees cannot
make out the color red though! Bees only fly to flowers that are red if they smell beautiful. The flower
color depends on the pollinator. Bees attracted to blur and violet colors. Hummingbirds love red, pink,
fuchsia, And purple. Butterflies enjoy yellow, orange, pink, and red.
Nectar Guides
Some flowers have obvious Nectar guides. For some flowers only bees and certain insects can spot the
nectar guides. They can study them through ultraviolet vision. Some flowers have patterns on their
petals to tell bees and insects where the nectar is. Flower petals are normally colorful and gorgeous.
Flower petals are normally scented too! Some flower guidelines, (also called Nectar Guides) which

Goodwill Balance Sheet
GOODWILL
What is the definition of Goodwill?
Goodwill is an intangible asset that mostly appears as the biggest intangible asset on the balance sheet.
The Goodwill can only be identified with the business as a whole. Therefore, the goodwill cannot be
sold individually in the marketplace, while some other intangible assets can be sold.
Goodwill is not easy to measure, because it includes exceptional management, desirable locations,
customer relations, and so on. The determination of the Goodwill is therefore most of the time very
subjective.
Companies only record the goodwill when there is an exchange transaction the involves the purchase
of an entire business.
When the company is purchased by another company, the goodwill ... Show more content on

Goodwill booking in the balance sheet
According to Harold Averkamp (2015), Goodwill is reported on the balance sheet as a noncurrent
asset.
Since 2001, U.S. companies are no longer required/allowed to amortize the recorded amount of
goodwill.
In accounting we use the word amortization to mean the systematic allocation of a balance sheet item
to expense (or revenue) on the income statement. Harold Averkamp (2015)
The amortization of an asset means that a company is allowed to split the value of the expenses stated
in the income statement over several months instead of a one time booking.
However, the amount of goodwill is subject to a goodwill impairment test at least once per year.
The companies have to verify at least once a year if the value of their assets is aligned with the fair
value of the market.
The test verifies if the value of the assets is bigger than the market value. An adjustment is recorded in
order to bring the value of the asset at the fair value in case of inequality.

The Mafia Did Not Kill John F. Kennedy
Since the death of John F. Kennedy many theories have evolved regarding the individual or
individuals who killed the president. Conspiracy theorist, as well as average citizens, believes Lee
Harvey Oswald did not kill the president, or that he was not the only person involved in the

Many more connections with President Kennedy and the Mafia exist, however the Mafia did not kill
President Kennedy. The Mafia had the motive and the resources to kill the president (Anders). They
also could have easily concealed their involvement in the assignation. For years prior to the election of
President Kennedy the CIA had the phones of various Mafia leaders tapped (Dallek). On all of the
recordings held by the CIA there is no evidence of the Mafia s involvement with the assignation of the
president. It is believed the Mafia had more reason to kill the Attorney General Bobby Kennedy, who
was assassinated in 1968, than his brother the president. According to Anders ...it s hard to imagine
that a group as corrupt as the organized crime syndicate could have kept this secret for 30 years
without a rapid wholesale slaughter of everyone connected to the killing... Members of the Mafia were
investigated and interrogated over the years. Not one individual implicated the Mafia. Although
Dallek states in his book the Mafia helped to elect Kennedy president there is evidence this did not
happen. In his 2006 article Wood discussed an analysis of the 1960 vote totals from the Mafia
controlled election districts in Chicago. It was found individuals in those areas did not show a
significant increase in votes for Kennedy. The election totals for West Virginia have also been
questioned over the years. The Warren Commission concluded there

interesting. Start with the name of the Case which is called the style of the case. PERLA GRAFF v.

Thus the court must then, pursuant to Sect. 61.075 divide the equitable value of the property equally,
unless there is reason to do otherwise. In this case, the Former Husband attempted to argue the asset
should still be treated differently because he only placed the Former Wife s name on the title in the
event of his demise. Even if the Court were to use that argument, the law still entitles the Former Wife
to equitable distribution of the asset because the increased value of the asset was based on the joint
efforts of both spouses as the Former Husband In making its findings the court looked at the facts the
parties used their joint checking account to make the mortgage payments and the parties used marital
monies to add a pool and replace the roof. Thus equity required that the increased value of the marital

the Hippie Generation and how they went about their daily lives. There were two main parks where
these events occurred, one was the Golden Gate Park the other was Buena Vista Park. The main park

Lucynell Cratet s Interactions With The Outsiders Short Story
In his interactions with the Lucynell Craters, Tom Shiftlet has a chance to achieve Grace. He has been
wandering and has no friends, and has found in this household a chance to work hard, watch a
beautiful sunset every night, and live a quiet life. This opportunity is hinted at when he first
approaches the two women sitting on the porch and turns his back to them to face the sunset: He
swung both his whole and his short arm up slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his
figure formed a crooked cross. That crooked cross embodied in his figure represents his chance at
salvation. As he drives toward Mobile, having missed his chance, he prays, Oh Lord! Break forth and

abandons Lucynell at The Hot Spot.
As in many of Flannery O Connor s stories, weather is an important indicator of characters moods and
important moments. As Tom Shiftlet drives off with the younger Lucynell Crater in the car,
supposedly to go on a honeymoon, The early afternoon was clear and open and surrounded by pale
blue sky; he still has a chance to redeem himself. But after he abandons her at The Hot Spot, he has

preparing very slowly and without thunder as if it meant to drain every drop of air from the earth
before it broke. After the hitchhiking boy has thrown himself out the passenger door, all is really lost
for Tom Shiftlet, and there was a guffawing peal of thunder from behind and fantastic raindrops, like
tin can tops, crashed over the rear of Mr. Shiftlet s car.

Plain and pleasure are a result of modern technology . Usage of cell phones as a boon or a bane ; the

childhood stories. He shared his evergreen memories of having a great time with his relatives. In the
olden days, people used to visit friends and relatives often. But look at about our generation. How
often we get to see our relatives? We just make a phone call to talk to them instead of visiting. We call
our grandparents through phones to check if they are doing okay. We wish them Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year by sending a text message. We are living in a fast moving world where social life is
centered around the mobile phones. Mobile phones are the No:1 culprit in damaging our social life

people talking through phone to the family members in the next room instead of just getting up from
the chair and walking over there. Leave aside the social life. Think about the health problems because

Intersectional Feminism
Within Western culture, mass media contributes to the social construction of gender roles and has a
direct effect on the social structure of society. The media uses advertising, television, and film to help
facilitate these changes. This idea will be explored using theories rooting from intersectional feminism
when comparing gender stereotypes, discrimination against transgender people, racial stereotypes,
rape culture and reasons for these portrayals in popular culture.
Basis of Feminist Theory The idea of feminism is commonly misconstrued in society as having a pro
female only agenda. Butler, (2011) argues that feminism is simply the social, political, and economic

Pop culture is defined as a product of a culture that has a mass audience (Zeisler 2008:1). Pop culture
is considered dependent on advertising, depicting women and people of colour in a problematic way
and discriminating manner (Ziesler, 2008:2). Popular culture has become our common knowledge,
and to understand it is a key part in understanding society as a whole. According to Beamish (2016),
popular culture is a form of symbolic communication between humans. Symbols can be anything that
can be recognized by a culture and often presented in the forms of language, values, norms, and
material culture. The use of language is a powerful tool that allows for the media to relay particular
messages to the rest of society. The imposition of certain concepts as a result can be argued as having
a direct affect on the daily lives of those who are exposed. Whereas material culture allows the
population to see these messages visually through advertisements, film, and television. Some basic
forms of pop culture include television, film, music, news, and advertising. Popular culture is rooted
in mass culture, and deemed for those who could not afford the means to participate in high culture
activities. Those who subjected to the popular culture were assumed to be uneducated and unworthy of

Guaiac based Fecal Occult Blood Test
The guaiac based Fecal Occult Blood Test (gFOBT) is a screening test for colorectal cancer (A guide

the presence of heme in stool (A guide to FOBT, n.d.). Colorectal neoplasms can cause blood (heme)
in the stool because the blood vessels on the surface of colorectal cancer and/or colorectal polyps have
fragile blood vessels that are easily damaged when feces pass through the large bowel (A guide to

Hurricane Katrina Case Study
1. Did human activity contribute to the severity of the storm, or was it an entirely natural disaster?
Support your answer with evidence and citations. The severity of Hurricane Katrina was impacted
largely by the location of its landfall. The storm was well tracked by the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The NOAA noted that the high pressure of the storm at
landfall, the strength of the system and shallow waters offshore all were contributing factors to the
severity of the storm. (Graumann, Houston, Lawrimore, Levinson, Lott, McCown, Stephens, Wuertz:
2005, pg 4). When the storm struck, however, it was found that those who were financially better off
were able to evacuate easier, leaving those in lower income areas to remain amidst the devastation.
Nearly a half million people were excluded from the cities, when FEMA camps were implemented as
a means to reconstruct public housing. (Smith, 2006). The human activity leading up to the storm,
including levees constructed on the shore as well as the NOAA announcement of a hurricane warning,
had been intended to protect the residents of Louisiana and Mississippi. Unfortunately, efforts to
prepare those who would be most devastated by the storm failed. The governmental response in the
wake of the storm greatly worsened the devastation of the storm. What is called glory seeking was the
government s way of encouraging the private sector to get involved with disaster relief. However, the

The Importance Of Food In My Life And My Family Life
Food it is something that we need to survive, it is essential for us as a species to grow and be healthy.
Some people see food as something that they need to live, but some people see it as something more
than something that we need to do. I am person who loves food. Food has been a huge part of my life
and my family life. Food is not just something that tastes good, it gives me memories of when me and
my dad when to go get ice cream or what we were eating for Thanksgiving. I am going to be talking
about food and how it affects me in my life. First I am going to talk about how I feel about food and
how important it is for me. Then I will discuss what role food plays in my life and what food I eat.
Food is ingrained in are daily culture, we see food everywhere on billboards on TV we even see it on
are phones. I believe that food is such a daily occurrence in our life that we forget how much we
actually eat and see it and talk about it. I personally love to eat food. Eating food is one of those
experiences that cannot mimic by doing something else. I consume all sorts of food from fast food to
high end restaurants. Food it isn t just the physical object, every single dish of food has a story behind
that dish. When I was a kid my mother and I went to Lowe s to get a birthday present for my dad. As I
walked into the store I thought we were getting him a new tool. But I ended up finding out we got him
this grilled call an Weber. When it came time for birthday he opened it and immediately set up. He put
charcoal on the bottom of the Weber on the sides and then put lighter fluid on the charcoal and lit it on
fire. Then he waited till the charcoal started the smolder and put mesquite wood chips on the charcoal
creating this smoke that smelled amazing. Then the best part he laid a full rack of season ribs, as he
laid it on the grill you could hear the meat simmer and start to smell the meat cooking. After waiting
for seems like an eternity I finally got to partake of the ribs. This was the first time I ever ate ribs, it
was something I never tasted before my life it was so good. This is just one story out of hundreds of
mine that involves food. Everyone has a story about food. Now sadly

Homelessness Is A Basic Need And All Human Beings Essay
Shelter is a basic need and all human beings are entitled to it. Though some may have shelter, they not
find a home. Homelessness has become rampant throughout the US population. Each day more and
more people are reported not to have this basic need, sleeping in the streets and wandering all day
long. This has become a major area of concern for the government, social services providers and
social policy makers. The government through the US Department of Housing and Urban
Development has put in enormous efforts to combat the annual rise in homelessness but the situation
has not significantly been curbed. Last year, for instance, there were 92, 593 homeless people who
were reported to be chronically homeless. Although this is a 16 percent drop from 2010 statistics, the
current figure is enormous enough to give sleepless nights to policy makers and the federal
government. (US Department of Housing and Urban Development). This brings to question what the
real odds bedeviling access to proper shelter are. While there is interplay of numerous factors, key
among them is the rise in poverty levels. As the poverty index rises, so does the inability to afford
basic shelter units.
Many of the US state governments (majorly New York) have placed rent controls so as to make
housing affordable to its citizens. Landlords rent their housing units to tenants at government
controlled prices. This is done by the introduction on price ceilings and price floors. Tenants are

of numerous sex fetishes, kinks, and oddball turn ons, such as dacryphilia and somnophilia. The movie
reveals what it is like to have a sex fetish and the problems that can arise from certain fetishes. In the
movie, actors have secret fetishes that are extremely strange and potentially hurt their relationships in
some form. One character, Maeve, reveals her secret fantasy of being raped to her boyfriend, which
horrifies him but he tries to please her and ends up in the hospital. Rowena has dacryphilia; she is only

My Experience Of Freedom
My first experience of freedom was the first time I drive my car by myself for the first time. Ever
since I was little, I had wanted to drive. My grandma would take me out into the country and let me
steer on her lap when I was little. It didn t feel like I thought it was supposed to. I had attempted to
take my moms car out for a drive when I was ten, but I got caught. When I turned twelve, my grandma
let me drive her car without her help but she was in the car with me. She let me drive because she
knew how bad I wanted to. It was on the same country road as when I was little, steering on her lap.
The country road would lead to my cousins house. I was able to drive her car on the country road
multiple times because we would go to my cousins house frequently. I have lived in Newton, Kansas
my whole life. I have moved over a dozen times, luckily my mom kept us in the same town
throughout. I have attended Newton Public Schools my entire childhood. My mom would always give
me rides to school in the mornings before she went to work. I would always ask if I could drive and
she would reply with No, you are not old enough and you don t even have a driver s license . I have
always felt trapped. I could leave the house and ride my bike whenever I felt like it, but I still felt
trapped. I couldn t drive. I wanted to drive so bad I thought I would kill for it. I didn t know how to
cope knowing I wasn t allowed to drive. So every time I had feelings about this issue, I would go into

Juxtaposition Of Innocence And Corruption In Daisy Miller...
Structuralism is the idea that language exists in patterns, therefore all literary works begin to develop
underlying elements common to all human experiences (Purdue). Structuralist criticism analyzes these
patterns, elements, and themes that interconnect the works in order to better understand them (Rump).
In the story arcs of both Henry James Daisy Miller and Stephanie Meyer s Twilight, structuralist
themes include the juxtaposition of innocence and corruption, and ignobility and refinement. The
juxtaposition of innocence and corruption in humans is a major structuralist theme found in a wide
variety of literary works. This trope is manifested through a young, naïve character, often depicted as a
virginal girl dressed in white, and an older, more mature, brooding male who ... Show more content on

Henry James novel Daisy Miller is a prime example; Daisy is the perfect embodiment of innocence.
the young Miller is said to take on three different kinds of innocence. The first is ignorance, in which
Daisy is uneducated on the customs and mannerisms of Europe and speaks unabashedly about her
personal life, what Winterbourne perceives to be the most unbecoming of her. The second is naïveté,
in which Daisy is unable to discern others motives, ultimately leading to her demise. The third is a
blamelessness, where she has done nothing immoral out of malice but simply from her upbringing in
the spirited nature of the American culture rather than the reserved and refined European culture.
Daisy Miller s corruption originates from two men in her life; Her major love interest, Mr. Giovanelli,
an Italian man with an unknown background, is the indirect cause of her corruption and the direct
cause of her ultimate downfall. Miller and Giovanelli s intimate friendship, with no customary
declaration of courtship, alarms many of her American expatriates. As the pair s friendship escalates
into something more, gossip and judgement further ostracizes Daisy from the American community.

Organizational Knowledge Theory
In 2007, the worldwide volume announced that mergers and acquisitions (M As) had reached more
than $4.74 trillion according to The Wall Street Journal. Despite their persistent acceptance, M As
remain highly debatable (Muehlfeld, Rao Van Witteloostuijn, 2012). The constant debate about post
acquisition performance repercussions of M As (Rooney, Mandeville, Kastelle, 2013) points to
important questions as to whether and under what conditions organizations learn from past acquisition
experience. However, outside of operational backdrops, the effects of experience on learning as well
as their outcomes have proved more intangible. Multifaceted environments as observed in typical
corporate level executive and strategic activities prevent reinforced learning and diminish the
identification between current actions and observed outcomes (Finkelstein S, Haleblian, 2002). Thus,
it can take years to witness effective wisdom obtained regarding mergers between large organizations
(Muehlfeld, Rao Van Witteloostuijn, 2012).

Anxiety Sufferers
Many of us anxiety sufferers have been so anxious for so long that we really have no idea of any other
kind of life. Some of us will think that feeling constantly anxious, sweating, afraid, and nervous about
everything is the way that we were meant to live and that things can be no other way. Some of us even
try to convince ourselves that we are the only ones who feel this way, while others try to convince
themselves that everyone feels this level of anxiety.
But, fortunately, there is another way to feel and to live life, no matter how hard we want to believe
otherwise. Confidence is the name of the feeling that is at the opposite extreme of anxious. Many of us
have only felt this feeling for but a few fleeting moments, while others have not experienced it for
years. Being anxious means that we are afraid of perceived threats or of failing, however that failure
might look like to us. Physical symptoms that we experience when are anxious can vary widely and
can include sweating, tingling, or shaking, to name a few. However, those of us who have managed to

Is it possible to be confident and relaxed most of the time, or all of the time? The answer to this
question is relative, in my opinion. Some people may be happy with occasional confidence, while still
being anxious in most situations. Others are happy to be confident in certain situations that enable one
to enhance the quality of his or her life, situations such as one on one interpersonal interactions, being
able to go out in public, or perhaps being able to drive a car. Others like me, who are idealists, want to
completely eliminate that anxious feeling in all situations. Is this a realistic goal? The answer is
probably no. But, if one continues to pursue complete relaxation as a goal, then one will notice that
anxiety in many other situations reduces or eliminates entirely while pursuing this

Iago Character Analysis Essay
The path of life requires the direction of morality. Without this guidance, it is easy to be led astray
down dark tunnels of egocentrism. Shakespeare reveals these many flaws of humanity through his
plays. Within the interactions between the dramatic characters, he is able to construct the faults that
are relatable in everyone even to this day. In one of his plays, Othello, Shakespeare uses the
manipulation from Iago in order to gain the revenge he desired. He is betrayed the position he desires
and stops at nothing to get what he wants. As he begins to shape other characters into the pawns he
needs to play with, he quickly learns to feed off the power he obtains. Yet within the destruction of
others, Iago manages to also destroy himself. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the development of Iago s unending need to see others suffer. He never had a complete plan to
obtain the revenge that he desired, but through his developing intentions and adapting manipulation he
was able to continue down his path unnoticed.
In order for Iago to gain what he desired required many well developed skills, but with those abilities
that led him came equally powerful faults. As a part of the human condition, he was unable to realize
these flaws in order to correct them for his success. One of these primary defects is his ever spreading
ability to gain power. This quality would work cohesively with his other skills if it were not corrupt.
Once he obtains this desire, it is unable to be suppressed because Iago is unable to see a reason to.
This is why he will never feel fulfillment in his journey because once his job is finished, he will
continue to desire more. Demand me nothing. What you know, you know. From this time forth I never
will speak word says Iago as he attempts to use the last thing he has against Othello in order to put
himself in control. (5.2.302 303) There will never be enough for him to attain, so he will never feel
complete with the things he has done. Iago decides to put himself in control no matter the situation.

Much Ado About Nothing Patriarchy
Undoubtedly, conventional beliefs during the Renaissance supported unchallenged patriarchal rule.
Men prescribed obedience and domesticity for women as a strategic method of preserving men s
limitless power, and this often times translated into the contemporary writing of the time. In William
Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing, patriarchy reveals itself as a dominant theme throughout the
play. Antonio, the brother of Leonato, says to one the play s female protagonists, Well, niece, I trust
you will be ruled by your father, (II.i.47 48). As a clear indication of male dominance and the
expectation of female adherence to regressive social norms, this later shows that Much Ado About
Nothing enacts the disastrous effects of placing strict limitations on women and empowering men with
unquestionable authority simply because of their sex. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

resides in the hands of men, the socially superior voices of men can be countered not by the speaking
of women but by the violence of a sword. Beatrice s role in the play is one that challenges long
established notions of male dominated society. She is a strong woman who is not afraid to speak her

the establishments of marriage and would preferably lead a life as an unmarried woman than to be

Critical analysis
The novel Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, was a piece written in 1817 during a time when women
weren t considered to be adequate authors. Shelley s work is both intriguing as it is thought provoking.
She brings to light the true nature of society and life altogether when tested. She factors in how the
outside world can influence our choices in writing. George Levine from The Ambiguous Heritage of
Frankenstein and Benjamin Truitt from Frankenstein Critical Analysis and Literary Criticism both
share their opinions about Shelley s piece of written work. Frankenstein is a story full of questions and
excitement. What is interesting about Shelley s novel is the absence of God and multiple female
characters. She ignores the proper way of conception and birth. Due to this, the science of what Victor
accomplished had gone awry. His goal while creating the monster was a perfect race in which they
would help mankind, even though the dream of the new race is...exploded in the end (Levine 12).

Schizophrenia: An Elusive Complex Disorder
A discussion of the Progress made so far in understanding the Genetic Architecture of Schizophrenia
Mendelian diseases conform to Mendel s laws of genetic inheritance; segregation and independent
assortment. Therefore, every pair of alleles in diploid organisms, are separated during meiosis and one
allele for every trait is passed onto one of the two daughter cells, independently of all other genes.
Thus, depending on the recessive or dominant status of both alleles for a gene, an individual may or

several variants may be combined in a multiplicative way, as demonstrated by the S curve in figure 2,
where individuals with more than 43 risk alleles will develop the disorder.

Exchange models such as the liability threshold model (LTM), figure 3, can also model Schizophrenia.
Both models can be created for many combinations of allele number, frequency, effect size predicting
a steep rise in disease probability for a small percentage of the population. In the LTM all individuals

LTM is parameterized solely on the total variance the genetic architecture is accountable for making it

Discourse Organization of Asian Fashion Blogs
Introduction
Background of the study
Blogging has emerged as one of the most popular forms of online discourse. The ease and lack of
expense in setting blogs has raised intriguing possibilities for language learning in social media. The
unique nature of its architecture and its low cost have not only affected how different bloggers can
publish and distribute their work to a wider audience but also how they see themselves as writers.
According to Blood (2002), blogs have been used in various ways: as online journals, a means of
designing hypertexts, and more radically, to create what calls the first native form of discourse on the
internet. She argues that blogging best reflects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To enrich further the structure of each blog, genre analysis will also be considered. This may identify
if fashion blogging belongs in a specific genre by studying how the ESL and EFL bloggers use the
language when writing.
The focus of this study is on the discourse organization of Asian fashion blogs. Considering their
writing style, comparing the blogs of these particular Asian countries that are categorized into two
groups will be done throughout the study.
Statement of the problem
This study aims to answer the following questions: 1. What are the structures of a fashion blog? 2.
What are the similarities and the differences between the fashion blogs of ESL and EFL writers?

Refugee Crisis Essay
Refugee crisis is a global societal problem for two major reasons; it is causing great suffering to
societies across the globe. Among the sufferings, include unmet goals in life, death of civilians and
separation of families. The second reason is that it is slowing down global integration and progress.
The failure to resettle refugees condemns them to poverty and cuts them off from normal lives being
led by other people. The situation created is one where not every human on earth gets to enjoy equal
human rights just because some are refugees.
Solutions to the Refugee Crisis
To generate solutions for the refugee crisis, the existence of refugees cannot be wished away. If it
could, the first pursuit would be stability in countries that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the UN currently has plans to annually resettle 10% of the refugees. This plan has been
affected by underfunding since the rich nations are distancing themselves from the responsibilities.
The UN is greatly underfunded as it stands. The challenges notwithstanding, an immediate solution
that qualifies as a starting point is the resettlement of the vulnerable individuals among the refugees
(Tufekci, 2015).
The vulnerable individuals are people with special needs ranging from severe psychological trauma to
physical challenges. Torture victims need resettlement as soon as possible and put under therapy
before their mental state deteriorates. This group of the vulnerable also include individuals with
special medical conditions who cannot survive the conditions in refugee camps any longer. Statistics
indicate that presently, over 1.2 million refugees need emergency resettlement. This will also ease the
crowding at the refugee camps and set the solution to the refugee crisis in motion (Tufekci, 2015).
Adoption of a More Humanitarian Approach
As it stands, countries are handling the refugee issue from an economic point of view. Other countries
are more focused on national superiority that they would not help a dying person. Reports indicated
that thousands of people who were fleeing persecution in Myanmar in May 2015 suffered for weeks
due to reluctance by Thailand,

Heaviness Of The Brick
Suddenly the brick occurs to mind when the story starts by talking about lightness. A brick itself is
light enough to be handled by hand, but a brick house is hefty. The brick is made from dried mud; that
makes clearer the meaning of lightness of brick. However, the land that holds the mud means a full
deadweight. Heaviness from lightness and lightness from heaviness, there are various possible ways to
look into the relationship between heaviness and lightness through the brick; that s why we should talk
about heaviness while keeping lightness in mind and vice versa.
For example, the story of the three little pigs mirrors the heaviness of the brick. Their houses made of
straw and sticks are blown away by the simple breath, revealing conversely the heaviness and solidity
of the brick as a construction material. It is also an ample proof that numerous ancient buildings
preserved today are mostly made of bricks or stones. The basilica where Leonardo da Vinci painted

Hades: King of the Underworld
Around 1100 BC Greek and Roman people began telling myths and stories about Heroes and
gods/goddesses. This was the beginning of Greek Mythology. At first people were told stories about
Heroes and Gods so that they would have someone to believe in and worship. Then Greek Mythology
became a way of teaching lessons to everyone and explaining natural phenomena. One of the gods that
was created out of these myths was Hades. Hades has been called the King of the Underworld and the
Greek God of the Dead. Hades was a very interesting god that, unlike other gods of the time, was not
worshipped but rather feared.

Preimplantation Genetic Analysis
People who are planning a pregnancy generally strive to give birth to a healthy child that is free of
notable handicap. To achieve such an end, preimplantation genetic diagnosis is sometimes offered to
the minority of persons who have in vitro fertilization. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a
technique used to test for certain genetic abnormalities in embryos produced by in vitro fertilization
prior to implantation in the uterus. The screening for genetic defects occurs at the six to ten cell stage
of embryonic development. Using polymerase chain reaction, the cellular DNA is tested for
chromosomal abnormalities or genetic mutations. The embryos found to have serious genetic
disorders are either discarded or frozen indefinitely. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They feel that prospective parents should have the right to use existing embryo screening tests to
determine all possible characteristics of offspring. Unless a tangible harm to specific individuals can
be evidenced, those of this belief argue that selection of offspring traits is a liberty all parents should
have (Harris 185). George Annas, chairman of the Health Law Department at the Boston University
School of Public Health, writes from this viewpoint, Prenatal tests become a consumer product, and as
with other consumer products it should be up to the individual whether or not to buy the product, and
physicians and companies should be free to advertise and sell the product in any misleading way
(Annas 265). Annas fears that such an attitude will make parents more likely to perceive their children
as products rather than people. Another likely harm may be that prenatal testing will only be a feasible
option for the wealthy. If the likelihood of genetic disease in the wealthy decreases and other citizens
do not have access to PGD, will genetic disease perhaps be associated only with the economically
unprivileged? Others may argue that parents already try to shape their children in certain ways, and
adding the genetic dimension to their influence would not be very different. For example, Robertson
writes: Parents now have wide discretion to enhance offspring traits after birth with actions that range
from the purely social and educative, such as special tutors and training camps, to the physio
medico...such actions may give the child advantages over other children, exacerbate class and
socioeconomic differences, and risk treating the child like a product or object to serve the parent s
interests. Yet they fall within a parent s discretion in rearing offspring, and could not constitutionally
be banned (Robertson 164). PGD is perfectly permissible in terms of law,

If you walk into a room only to be met with silent stares then there s a good chance they know something you don t. If your friends seem to shy away from you, it probably means something s up. Your company is going through a merger After a merger, it s not uncommon for a company to lay off a few or sometimes massive amounts of employees. That s because mergers generally take place for the purpose of joining two or more companies to achieve greater efficiencies of scale and productivity. Back in 2005 when Procter Gamble announced that it would buy Gillette for $57 billion, 6,000 people were slated to lose their jobs once the company joined. The reason why, suggests Peter Cappelli, director of Wharton s Center for Human Resources, University of Pennsylvania is because the investors focus on costs, which generally means cutting workers to save money. So, if your hearing rumors about mergers, then sit down with your boss and have a good heart to heart about your future with the company. Going through merger suggests it s time to clean house, and that could mean dropping you from payroll. Your boss goes to your subordinates for information You were once a go to person for your boss. But lately, all signs point towards being left out of the loop. Most companies have a clear chain of command. • 4. Goodwill Balance Sheet GOODWILL What is the definition of Goodwill? Goodwill is an intangible asset that mostly appears as the biggest intangible asset on the balance sheet. The Goodwill can only be identified with the business as a whole. Therefore, the goodwill cannot be sold individually in the marketplace, while some other intangible assets can be sold. Goodwill is not easy to measure, because it includes exceptional management, desirable locations, customer relations, and so on. The determination of the Goodwill is therefore most of the time very subjective. Companies only record the goodwill when there is an exchange transaction the involves the purchase of an entire business. When the company is purchased by another company, the goodwill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goodwill booking in the balance sheet According to Harold Averkamp (2015), Goodwill is reported on the balance sheet as a noncurrent asset. Since 2001, U.S. companies are no longer required/allowed to amortize the recorded amount of goodwill. In accounting we use the word amortization to mean the systematic allocation of a balance sheet item to expense (or revenue) on the income statement. Harold Averkamp (2015) The amortization of an asset means that a company is allowed to split the value of the expenses stated in the income statement over several months instead of a one time booking. However, the amount of goodwill is subject to a goodwill impairment test at least once per year. The companies have to verify at least once a year if the value of their assets is aligned with the fair value of the market. The test verifies if the value of the assets is bigger than the market value. An adjustment is recorded in order to bring the value of the asset at the fair value in case of inequality. Many more connections with President Kennedy and the Mafia exist, however the Mafia did not kill President Kennedy. The Mafia had the motive and the resources to kill the president (Anders). They also could have easily concealed their involvement in the assignation. For years prior to the election of President Kennedy the CIA had the phones of various Mafia leaders tapped (Dallek). On all of the recordings held by the CIA there is no evidence of the Mafia s involvement with the assignation of the president. It is believed the Mafia had more reason to kill the Attorney General Bobby Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968, than his brother the president. According to Anders ...it s hard to imagine that a group as corrupt as the organized crime syndicate could have kept this secret for 30 years without a rapid wholesale slaughter of everyone connected to the killing... Members of the Mafia were investigated and interrogated over the years. Not one individual implicated the Mafia. Although Dallek states in his book the Mafia helped to elect Kennedy president there is evidence this did not happen. In his 2006 article Wood discussed an analysis of the 1960 vote totals from the Mafia controlled election districts in Chicago. It was found individuals in those areas did not show a significant increase in votes for Kennedy. The election totals for West Virginia have also been questioned over the years. In this case, the Former Husband attempted to argue the asset should still be treated differently because he only placed the Former Wife s name on the title in the event of his demise. Even if the Court were to use that argument, the law still entitles the Former Wife to equitable distribution of the asset because the increased value of the asset was based on the joint efforts of both spouses as the Former Husband In making its findings the court looked at the facts the parties used their joint checking account to make the mortgage payments and the parties used marital monies to add a pool and replace the roof. This opportunity is hinted at when he first approaches the two women sitting on the porch and turns his back to them to face the sunset: He swung both his whole and his short arm up slowly so that they indicated an expanse of sky and his figure formed a crooked cross. • 15. Hurricane Katrina Case Study 1. Did human activity contribute to the severity of the storm, or was it an entirely natural disaster? Support your answer with evidence and citations. The severity of Hurricane Katrina was impacted largely by the location of its landfall. The storm was well tracked by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The NOAA noted that the high pressure of the storm at landfall, the strength of the system and shallow waters offshore all were contributing factors to the severity of the storm. (Graumann, Houston, Lawrimore, Levinson, Lott, McCown, Stephens, Wuertz: 2005, pg 4). When the storm struck, however, it was found that those who were financially better off were able to evacuate easier, leaving those in lower income areas to remain amidst the devastation. Nearly a half million people were excluded from the cities, when FEMA camps were implemented as a means to reconstruct public housing. (Smith, 2006). The human activity leading up to the storm, including levees constructed on the shore as well as the NOAA announcement of a hurricane warning, had been intended to protect the residents of Louisiana and Mississippi. Unfortunately, efforts to prepare those who would be most devastated by the storm failed. The governmental response in the wake of the storm greatly worsened the devastation of the storm. Homelessness has become rampant throughout the US population. Each day more and more people are reported not to have this basic need, sleeping in the streets and wandering all day long. This has become a major area of concern for the government, social services providers and social policy makers. The government through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development has put in enormous efforts to combat the annual rise in homelessness but the situation has not significantly been curbed. Last year, for instance, there were 92, 593 homeless people who were reported to be chronically homeless. Although this is a 16 percent drop from 2010 statistics, the current figure is enormous enough to give sleepless nights to policy makers and the federal government. (US Department of Housing and Urban Development). This brings to question what the real odds bedeviling access to proper shelter are. While there is interplay of numerous factors, key among them is the rise in poverty levels. As the poverty index rises, so does the inability to afford basic shelter units. Many of the US state governments (majorly New York) have placed rent controls so as to make housing affordable to its citizens. Despite their persistent acceptance, M As remain highly debatable (Muehlfeld, Rao Van Witteloostuijn, 2012). She ignores the proper way of conception and birth. Due to this, the science of what Victor accomplished had gone awry. His goal while creating the monster was a perfect race in which they would help mankind, even though the dream of the new race is...exploded in the end (Levine 12). Victor Frankenstein ... • 28. Status And Society In The Tale Of Genji The Tale of Genji was centered around the Heian period in Japan. The book is centered around Genji, the son of the Emperor. The book gives glimpses of what life was like for the elites in Japan. It displayed elite status and culture, how the Japanese value material possessions and how it defines status in society. The book gives us an insight of Heian Japan. Status is a very important in Heian Japan. Status gives you power and the higher up you are, the better off you are. Status is defined by what rank one is. Rank displayed the amount of education, dignity, social status and so on. The emperor can raise one s rank. This was seen when Genji s mother died. (66) This point is driven home when he states that the people who get to live around such beauty are in the vast mountains (68). His men that followed him on this adventure told him of other places that obtain beauty (68). This is a good contrast that shows the elites, though powerful, did not always get the better deal in ... A discussion of the Progress made so far in understanding the Genetic Architecture of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia: An Elusive Complex Disorder A discussion of the Progress made so far in understanding the Genetic Architecture of Schizophrenia Mendelian diseases conform to Mendel s laws of genetic inheritance; segregation and independent assortment. Therefore, every pair of alleles in diploid organisms, are separated during meiosis and one allele for every trait is passed onto one of the two daughter cells, independently of all other genes. Thus, depending on the recessive or dominant status of both alleles for a gene, an individual may or may not develop a simple disorder where one gene is sufficient causality (Mendel, 1865). In ... To emulate the observed risk to relatives pattern several variants may be combined in a multiplicative way, as demonstrated by the S curve in figure 2, where individuals with more than 43 risk alleles will develop the disorder. Figure 2 Figure 2 Exchange models such as the liability threshold model (LTM), figure 3, can also model Schizophrenia. Both models can be created for many combinations of allele number, frequency, effect size predicting a steep rise in disease probability for a small percentage of the population. In the LTM all individuals have unknown liability with both an environmental and genetic component, presentation is sporadic, limited to those that meet the threshold. Figure 3 Figure 3 LTM is parameterized solely on the total variance the genetic architecture is accountable for making it a good model to hypothesise upon as it requires no explicit assumptions for; allele number, frequency and effect size. LTM supports the current range of exchangeable genetic models that have varying hypothesis but limited statistical differentiation (Wray N. R., 2010). Reduced fecundity in patients decreases genetic variance whilst de novo mutations exert the opposite force, neither of which can be captured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Alice Munro Research Paper Reading literature from around the world is one of the most important things people can do in school and at home. It allows students to learn the truth about misconceptions they might have about other places. Many of these stories can also teach students many other important lessons. Alice Munro is an author who s stories can do both of these things for students. Alice Munro should be included in the World Literature course. She should be included because her short story Day of the Butterfly teaches a lesson that every student should learn about, she won a Nobel Prize in Literature because of her short stories, and she based many of her stories on her own real life experiences. Her living in Wingham, Ontario also inspired her to write events in her short stories that were complex as ones in novels ( Alice Munro Facts ). She says everybody has a role that others create for them in a small town (Munro 33). She knows because of her experience from living in a rural area. She uses this to create realistic stories including Day of the Butterfly. This idea is evident in the way the others treated Myra in Day of the Butterfly. When Munro was in school, she came up with ideas for stories while she walked to there ( Alice Munro Biographical ). She says, I was eight, it was quite a walk, but I liked it ( Alice Munro Biographical ). Her stories were also inspired by real life events in her hometown like her mother s death ( Alice Munro Biographical ). Discourse Organization on Asian Fashion Blogs Chapter 1 Discourse Organization of Asian Fashion Blogs Introduction Background of the study Blogging has emerged as one of the most popular forms of online discourse. The ease and lack of expense in setting blogs has raised intriguing possibilities for language learning in social media. The unique nature of its architecture and its low cost have not only affected how different bloggers can publish and distribute their work to a wider audience but also how they see themselves as writers. According to Blood (2002), blogs have been used in various ways: as online journals, a means of designing hypertexts, and more radically, to create what calls the first native form of discourse on the internet. • 33. Refugee Crisis Essay Refugee crisis is a global societal problem for two major reasons; it is causing great suffering to societies across the globe. Among the sufferings, include unmet goals in life, death of civilians and separation of families. The second reason is that it is slowing down global integration and progress. The failure to resettle refugees condemns them to poverty and cuts them off from normal lives being led by other people. The situation created is one where not every human on earth gets to enjoy equal human rights just because some are refugees. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the UN currently has plans to annually resettle 10% of the refugees. This plan has been affected by underfunding since the rich nations are distancing themselves from the responsibilities. The UN is greatly underfunded as it stands. The challenges notwithstanding, an immediate solution that qualifies as a starting point is the resettlement of the vulnerable individuals among the refugees (Tufekci, 2015). The vulnerable individuals are people with special needs ranging from severe psychological trauma to physical challenges. Torture victims need resettlement as soon as possible and put under therapy before their mental state deteriorates. This group of the vulnerable also include individuals with special medical conditions who cannot survive the conditions in refugee camps any longer. Statistics indicate that presently, over 1.2 million refugees need emergency resettlement. This will also ease the crowding at the refugee camps and set the solution to the refugee crisis in motion (Tufekci, 2015). Adoption of a More Humanitarian Approach As it stands, countries are handling the refugee issue from an economic point of view. Other countries are more focused on national superiority that they would not help a dying person. Reports indicated that thousands of people who were fleeing persecution in Myanmar in May 2015 suffered for weeks due to reluctance by Thailand, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Heaviness Of The Brick Suddenly the brick occurs to mind when the story starts by talking about lightness. A brick itself is light enough to be handled by hand, but a brick house is hefty. The brick is made from dried mud; that makes clearer the meaning of lightness of brick. However, the land that holds the mud means a full deadweight. Heaviness from lightness and lightness from heaviness, there are various possible ways to look into the relationship between heaviness and lightness through the brick; that s why we should talk about heaviness while keeping lightness in mind and vice versa. For example, the story of the three little pigs mirrors the heaviness of the brick. Their houses made of straw and sticks are blown away by the simple breath, revealing conversely the heaviness and solidity of the brick as a construction material. It is also an ample proof that numerous ancient buildings preserved today are mostly made of bricks or stones. Hades Underworld Victoria White Mr. Balistreri English 1 24 February 2017 Hades: King of the Underworld Around 1100 BC Greek and Roman people began telling myths and stories about Heroes and gods/goddesses. This was the beginning of Greek Mythology. At first people were told stories about Heroes and Gods so that they would have someone to believe in and worship. Then Greek Mythology became a way of teaching lessons to everyone and explaining natural phenomena. One of the gods that was created out of these myths was Hades. To achieve such an end, preimplantation genetic diagnosis is sometimes offered to the minority of persons who have in vitro fertilization. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a technique used to test for certain genetic abnormalities in embryos produced by in vitro fertilization prior to implantation in the uterus. The screening for genetic defects occurs at the six to ten cell stage of embryonic development. Using polymerase chain reaction, the cellular DNA is tested for chromosomal abnormalities or genetic mutations. The embryos found to have serious genetic disorders are either discarded or frozen indefinitely. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They feel that prospective parents should have the right to use existing embryo screening tests to determine all possible characteristics of offspring. Unless a tangible harm to specific individuals can be evidenced, those of this belief argue that selection of offspring traits is a liberty all parents should have (Harris 185). George Annas, chairman of the Health Law Department at the Boston University School of Public Health, writes from this viewpoint, Prenatal tests become a consumer product, and as with other consumer products it should be up to the individual whether or not to buy the product, and physicians and companies should be free to advertise and sell the product in any misleading way (Annas 265). Annas fears that such an attitude will make parents more likely to perceive their children as products rather than people. Another likely harm may be that prenatal testing will only be a feasible option for the wealthy. If the likelihood of genetic disease in the wealthy decreases and other citizens do not have access to PGD, will genetic disease perhaps be associated only with the economically unprivileged? Others may argue that parents already try to shape their children in certain ways, and adding the genetic dimension to their influence would not be very different. For example, Robertson writes: Parents now have wide discretion to enhance offspring traits after birth with actions that range from the purely social and educative, such as special tutors and training camps, to the physio medico...such actions may give the child advantages over other children, exacerbate class and socioeconomic differences, and risk treating the child like a product or object to serve the parent s interests. Yet they fall within a parent s discretion in rearing offspring, and could not constitutionally be banned (Robertson 164). PGD is perfectly permissible in terms of law, ...
