The Dream Argument by Rene Descartes Essay
One of Rene Descartes s most famous arguments, from his not only from his first meditation but all of
the meditations, is his Dream Argument. Descartes believes that there is no way to be able to
distinguish being in awake from being in a state of dreaming. In fact you could actually be in a dream
right now. Rene Descartes s theory that one is unable distinguish being awake from dreaming, as
interesting as it is, can be at times a little farfetched, along with a few contradictions to himself,
Descartes s dream argument does not entitle himself to any sort of claim.
Descartes wrote the Meditations on First Philosophy were first published in the year 1641 in Latin.
There are six total Meditations that Descartes had written. One thing that ... Show more content on

It is deception from the sense that causes this mistrust for Descartes and brings forth the Dream
Argument. The human senses as well feel very real, just as they do in reality, and this is one of the first
things that have Descartes question the differences between being awake and dream. Due to the trust
issues it he becomes unsure of whether he is dreaming or not. When it comes to dreaming Descartes
thinks that there could possibility that some certain God that may have easily deceived him in falsely
believing in things could appear to be correct but are not. However Descartes says that it God is
described as a supremely good being (Descartes, 21). God has always been a being that is worshiped
and why would so many people worship an evil God if he brings no positives to their lives. Descartes
however is not 100 percent positive on whether God is being deceptive or not being deceptive. James
Hill says that [the] key move that Descartes then makes is to highlight the lack of insight one has into
one s condition when dreaming. It is this lack of insight, and Descartes way of interpreting it, which
forms the backbone of the dreaming argument (Hill, 2). To shorten that down, the minimal
explanations to why and how dreams occur is the foundation for Descartes s Dream Argument.
The main idea of Descartes is that there is no difference between being awake and dreaming.
Descartes says there are no definite signs to differ dreaming from being awake. You could be possibly

Describe the Major Bones, Muscles, Joints and Joint...
1 . Describe the Major bones, muscles, joints and joint actions used to perform this movement skill and
how they influence the way the body moves.
The overarm throw is a skill frequently used in a wide range of sports such as cricket, softball and
baseball. The action is also used in athletic activities such as javelin, with the overhead serve and
smash in tennis, volleyball and badminton and passing a netball and basketball. An overarm throw is
the action of the arm swinging backwards then upwards, as the elbow moves close to ear level, leading
the throw forward a step is taken with the foot opposite the throwing arm, during the throw, body
rotates to face forward and body weight transfers from back to front foot, the elbow then ... Show

The fibula (slender long bone that lies parallel with and on the lateral side of the tibia) crucial in the
overarm throw as it works with the tibia providing support
and stability allowing the knee joint to slightly rotate the body before and while releasing the ball and
lastly the tarsals, metatarsal and phalanges (comprise the bones of the foot to allow leg
movement, tarsals are short bones whereas metatarsals and phalanges are long bones) work together
allowing
balance of the body also flexion on the back leg when the ball is being released ending in a plantar
flexion position .
A joint is a junction of two or more bones and is commonly referred to as an articulation.Without joint
in the body no movement will be possible. There are three types of joints immovable/fibrous where no
movements are possible(example cranium).Slightly movable/cartilaginous joint is a joint
that permits limited movement and a freely movable/synovial joint is the joint which allows
maximum movement (example hip joint).
The joints implicated with the overarm throw are the ball and socket joint

Appropriate Behavior Modification Plan
As a Paraprofessional I work with many students who have behavior modification plans. I help them
reach their goals on changing specific behaviors. I have no problems helping my students change their
inappropriate behaviors, but when I saw this assignment and thought about an inappropriate behavior I
needed to change, I found it very difficult. It s hard to change, we are creatures of habit. I had to sit
down and think really hard about a behavior I would feel comfortable writing a behavior modification

myself for this summer. I decided to make a plan to help me change my overeating behavior. I am a

The Narcissism Epidemic Analysis
Narcissism the American way of thinking and we don t have to look far to find it. Todays celebrities
flaunt their oversized egos and too hot for you bodies. Access Hollywood thrives on potential celebrity
truths and gossip magazines. Society operate under the pleasure principle, accepting nothing less that
what we deserve. We buy houses on easy credit with an APR of 18% or higher. Facebook has become
a way of expressing ourselves. Clothing has become optional and we question how we got here? Jean
M. Twenge and W. Keith Campbell, authors of The Narcissism Epidemic, have compiled enticing and
compelling evidence for the development of culturally accepted narcissism. According to the two,
there are more narcissists than ever; even non narcissistic people are being seduced by cultural
emphasis on material wealth, physical appearance, and celebrity gossip (Twenge Campbell, 2009, pp.
1 2). Standards have shifted, trapping otherwise humble people into believing societies standards for
success. Twenge and Campbell s book was designed as a wake up call. The two authors work together
to uncover the truth behind societal narcissism, while revealing its long term consequences. The word

me question the authors credentials. Unfortunately, the cover has no illustration, which would perhaps
attract other readers who have little to no knowledge on narcissism. Another aspect of the cover is the
statement made by San Francisco Chronicles, which reads: Chronicles the obsession that many
Americans have with, well, themselves...thinking themselves entitled to thing they haven t earned: It
puts them at a terrible disadvantage in a global marketplace that is, all the time, getting more
competitive. This statement allows background into the content of the book while leaving the reader

Sexual Assault At The West Chester University Of Pennsylvania
One in five women are sexually assaulted while in college (Not Alone, 2014). In our class of twenty
women that means that possibly five women have been sexually assaulted. Out of the five women that
I stated could have been sexually assaulted they may have known the perpetrator and often will not
report what has happened. According to the spring count of students completed by West Chester
University, 9,211 of those students were females ( Headcount Enrollment , 2014). If I go by the
statistic mentioned earlier that one in five women is assaulted that would mean that 1,842 women have
been sexually assaulted while enrolled at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Out of 1,842
possible assaults only four were reported last year. Two of which the victims knew prior to the assault.
Rankin and Associates consulting conducted a Climate Assessment on West Chester University in
September of 2010, a section of the results focused on sexual assault on students. According to the
report seven people who reported a sexual assault to the university described their reactions to the
universities response. Two students shared the way they felt the response was inappropriate or poor.
One described that they felt the suspension for one semester was not an appropriate response to an
admitted rape, that public safety lost the victims statement, judicial affairs painted the victim offender
as innocent, and that the registrar protected the offender putting the victim in harm s way and

The View that Religion Acts as a Conservative Force on Society Even though sociologists do not have
a true definition of religion they believe that religion is a belief in the supernatural. Some sociologists
believe that religion acts as a conservative force. A conservative force is something that prevents
change within society and also maintains the status quo. Functionalist believes that religion is a

Malinowski a functionalist focuses on the psychological needs of individuals in times of stress.
Malinowski believes religion provides people with meanings in times of life crisis for example death
and funerals. Things such as funerals allow people to move on and minimise the disruption to society.
He argues that the idea of heaven provides people with a meaning of life. This maintains the status
quo as it allows people to get on with day to day life. Malinowski did a study of the Troiband Island
and he argued people use religion in times of uncertainty. He found that when the people of the island
went to out to fish they felt safe when they fished in the lagoon they felt safe as they was close to
home, However when they went to fish out in the sea where the survival rate was low they would pray
to god to keep them safe. This shows that religion is a conservative force as it maintains the status quo
because it allows people to forget their problems and carry on with their every day life. Parsons
another functionalist would ague that religion provides answers to question that appear to be
unanswerable, for example when villains seem

Negligence Essay
Negligence is used in tort in order to provide a remedy for those who have suffered any loss or injury,
due to a defendant s actions. If a defendant had a duty of care towards the claimant, then a remedy can
be enforced to cover for any losses. Factual causation in negligence establishes whether it was the
defendant in fact who caused the harm, in order to determine the factual causation, the but for test is
used. The but for test includes asking the question of but for the defendant s carelessness, would the
claimant have escaped harm? The factual causation would be determined if the answer is yes , as harm
would have not occurred if the defendant did not breach the duty of care. If the answer is no then the
defendant would not be held liable. The but for test states that X is the cause of Y if Y would not have
occurred in the absence of X . An advantage of the but for test is that it allows the defendant to take
full liability, if their actions were the cause of harm to the claimant. Once an answer is obtained

This is known as the loss of chance. Hotson v East Berkshire Health Authority [1987 case illustrates
the use of the but for test clearly as well as the loss of chance. While climbing a tree, a boy fell and
injured his hip. The doctors who treated him were negligent, due to the fact that they did not recognise
the condition of vascular necrosis during the first visit and sent him home without diagnosis.
However, the boy was correctly diagnosed a few days later but paralysis still occurred. The but for test
was used here as it was stated that if the doctors had diagnosed the boy properly the first time, then
there would have been a chance of 25% that the condition would not have occurred. This case
illustrates clearly that the claimant needs to pass the but for test and successfully prove factual

Caged Bird Sings, New Directions And Woman Work
You may encounter many defeats but you must not be defeated, (Angelou 448). A quote in which is
true in the stories that this author wrote and in her own life. In the short stories and poem, from I
Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Caged Bird, New Directions, and Woman Work, Maya Angelou
writes about the human spirit and freedom. In each of her works of literature, Angelou addresses the
point of being free and creating your own life. Although it isn t stated in all of the stories, one can
infer the meaning based off of the context of the story.
In the story, from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Angelou talks about her early life as a child. It
was not the most pleasant experience for someone go through, but her will to survive and be free kept
her going. The overall tone of the story was negative and used slang. This is shown when the author
writes, Home fo bits and six bits... The sounds of the morning had been replaced with grumbles about
cheating houses, weighted scales, snakes, skimpy cotton, and the dusty rows (492 Angelou). Having a
negative tone fits the theme of the story, which is to do whatever it takes to get a living, because

What Is A Lie Essay
The lie.
I mean the lie is the first sin we commit. As children, we often learn always to tell the truth. However,
there is an opportunity in life when we are taking the first steps toward a lie: to avoid a punishment, to
achieve a goal, to adapt to a situation, or to enhance our status. It is for this reason that the lies are so
close to us.
There are different levels of lies, and none of them is okay, not even the white little lie. A white lie is a
lie that offers consolation and a false belief of security. The best cover up of the lie is the absence of
truth. The absence of truth is a lie that is harder to see through but to defraud, and omission of
information as a tool to fool us from the truth is a lie straight through.
One of the main features of people who defraud information or omit the truth is that they are
constantly on the defensive. Because of this, they do not want to collaborate and have few
explanations for why they should be perceived as trustworthy, and they are trying to ... Show more

Do not let the lies control your deeds and actions in a given situation. Instead, allow the truth to
prevail. Sure, the truth hurts, but the truth hurts once while the lie hurts forever. I do not like lies that
are comforting me or a half truth. I prefer reality, even if it hurts.
It does not matter how painful the truth is. It offers us an opportunity to strengthen our ability to make
decisions, analyse things, and determine our emotional and cognitive identity.
What does the truth give? It gives you confidences, self esteem, and respect. To others, it provides
integrity, authenticity, and an opportunity for a free choice.
Keep in mind that honesty is the most important thing in life when dealing with other people.
Therefore, always be honest because it is the only way to grow the integrity of the relationship and

School Structure And Family Influences
Education never really seemed to be priority in my hometown. Fresno, the 5th largest city in
California, is listed as the 8th least literate city in the US. I grew up in a part of town where less than
75% of the residents age 25 and over received a high school diploma; less than 13% earned a Bachelor
s degree; and only 3% have a graduate or professional degree. It s surprising that I even made it to
graduate school after reading statistics like these. My objective is to reflect on my school experience,
and explore how culture, school structure and family influences contributed to my successful
completion of grades K 16, even when the odds were not in my favor.
I came from a working class family of six whose ethnicity was mixed my father, White and my
mother, Hispanic. My siblings and I all went to Slater Elementary School from Kindergarten to 6th
grade. The school was less than a mile from my home, and the community was made up mostly of
working and lower middle class families. The ethnic distribution of my neighborhood was 53.8%
Hispanic, 28.2% White, 9.3% Black, 5.5% Asian, and 2% mixed race. Coming from a mixed race
family had its own challenges. In addition to being a cultural outlier in the community, I was always
confused about who I was ethnically, and was forced to choose which one identified with more (White
or Hispanic) on standardized tests, or when participating with play groups.

The Role Of Atrocity In The Film Th How
There is a huge difference between the cause of atrocity and atrocity itself. The cause of atrocity
usually comes from different pursuits of harm or anger, in all shapes and forms. Atrocity can be found
in different religions or countries. In other words atrocity has been shown from the British in 1840 s
when the British government decided that cheaper goods was more valuable than feeding its comrades
in Ireland. The Germans have displayed atrocity in the 1940 s when Adolf Hitler s political party rose
to power, also known as Nazis. The most specific example of Atrocity can be displayed when Hitler
order the final solution to be carried out by his first hand and loyal friend Heinrich Himmler. There is
no doubt that atrocity comes from certain individuals or entire government.
Pursuing a political position should be beyond our own agenda, it should be from a natural stance of
understanding life and an entire nation. After all, a look at what certain individuals did when they were
part of political party and before it; is just amazing the vast changes that can be seen. However, to
have too much pride for the growth of one specific population is a horrible mentality. But that didn t

The Man Of The Mountain By Zora Neale Hurston Essay
Zora Neale Hurston s Moses Man of the Mountain is one of the most successful novels where she
expresses various characteristics of an ideal leader through her main character Moses. At the same
time, she addresses other leaders such as Aaron and Miriam and explains how they fail to contribute as
leaders because of their selfish attitudes. Hurston highlights Moses as an old man with great lawgiver.
In her novel, Hurston turns the biblical character Moses into a spiritual African American leader who
can uses magic (hoodoo) and folklore to guide his people.
By creating a conflict among Moses, Aaron, and Miriam Zora Neale Hurston compares Moses
altruistic leadership qualities to Aaron and Miriam self centered qualities in order to simultaneously
illustrate Moses as a representative of African American leader who combines magic and folklore to
lead his people. Moses spiritual journey is an allegory of the African American search of freedom
from enslavement in the United States.
In this paper, Moses character is described as a magical (hoodoo) man who represents the African
American community. In addition, Hebrews march from Egyptian enslavement is compared to African
American enslavement in the United States. By portraying various scenes and close character analysis
Moses leadership qualities is compared to his brother Aaron and his sister Miriam leadership qualities.

Thus, being the busiest rail and perhaps the most important for both the residents of Graniteville and
Avondale plant, many trains traveled through the town daily conducting business. Nonetheless, for

film incentive program in Michigan. While the state will keep the Michigan Film Office for the time
being, this is a major hit to a budding film industry. Since 2007, the incentive program helped to
attract the production of Hollywood films to Michigan. Notable films produced while the program was
intact include Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Transformers franchise. In a news release
concerning the new legislation, Governor Snyder noted that the while the program will no be active,
Michigan still has much to offer to the film industry. The states film office will continue to assist those
looking to film in the state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He changed the program to be a cash based incentives which would cap at $25 million. Some view the
discontinuation on the program as a lack of support for creativity in Michigan. There are many
beneficial reasons for incentive based programs to be used in the state of Michigan. While many may
view them as some useless program, there is much upside to have them. For example, these programs
support local film makers, make locations more desired, create jobs, work well on a credit based
system, and provide a competitive advantage. On the subject of supporting local film makes, in
response to Michigan eliminating its incentive program, local filmmakers were highly upset. One
filmmaker stated they don t care about what we care about as creative people, as entrepreneurs, as
artists, as people who are trying to make a living. (Egan, p. 1) While the state did what they felt was
right, discontinuing the program created friction within the film making community. One of the states
key jobs is to provide for all citizens. By stopping the program, this does not happen. Much like any
state, Michigan seeks to become a more desired location on the national scale. The entertainment
industry, is one of the key ways to do so. In the reading The Great Convention Center Bailout, this is
exampled. The author states It s no surprise then that cities compete so fiercely for business. The
nation s largest convention centers in

Bridget Jones
After twelve years of wait, the third instalment of the Bridget Jones (2001 2004) film series has been
finally released.
When Working Title Films announced its intention of making another film back in 2009, several
problems arrived with such announcement. In fact, the director of Bridesmaids and most recently
Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, was reportedly going to be the director of the film. However, creative
differences arise with Working Title and he exited the project. Production was slanted to begin in
January of 2012, nonetheless, the screenplay was not good enough, according to the actors and it drew
creative differences. Despite originally having the three main actors from the first two previous films

Nonetheless, all that can be said is that it is much better than its predecessor, Bridget Jones: The Edge
of Reason (2004). The main plot is contrived so that nor Jones or the two possible fathers learn about
who is the actual father of the baby boy. One of the few good aspects to say about this contrived
arrangement, is that the audience gets to enjoy more of Thompson, who aside from collaborating on
writing the screenplay, she has a supporting role in it as Dra. Rawling, Jones s gynecologist; carrying

What Are The Similarities Between Samuel Johnson And Noah...
The act of composing dictionaries, lexicography, was seen as peculiar; however, men such as Samuel
Johnson and Noah Webster dared to defy such ideologies. Both men had their own reasons for taking
on the daunting challenge of writing a dictionary of the English Language. Their reasons may greatly
differ such as Webster s motivation of strengthening the national identity and Johnson s reason of
standardizing words with his witty definitions. Despite of their different motives for defining words,
Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster s beliefs can cross paths, they both wanted certain words to be
spelled more appropriately. Samuel Johnson was widely known for his criticism and witty remarks
towards a variety of people, which does not exclude himself. Johnson s dictionary is filled with
facetious definitions that are mocking someone. For instance, his famous definition of oats is
offensive towards Scottish people. His definition of the word oats is, A grain, which in England is
generally given to horses, but in Scotland appears to support the people. The way he chose to define
the word oats reveals not only that Johnson thought the Scots were hapless and inferior, but also that
Johnson had a critical tone in his dictionary, A Dictionary of the English Language. Whereas Noah
Webster maintain a more respectful and direct tone. In Webster s Compendious Dictionary of the
English language, his definitions do not exhibit any bias. Illustrations of this are governmental words

Essay On Tax Structure Of India
History of tax structure in India
Direct Taxes:
These are taxes which are directly taken from the citizen of a country and are deducted from their
incomes.
Thus, the tax is paid by the person who bears the economic burden of the income generated.
Examples: Income Tax and Corporate Tax. Indirect Taxes:
These are taxes paid by the intermediaries on behalf of the final consumer who bears the ultimate
economic burden of the tax. These were collected by both the central and state governments. The
central government collects variety of taxes such as:
1. Excise Tax (collected on the production and manufacturing of goods)
2. Service Tax (collected on services provided)
3. Customs (collected on international trade)
The state government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to quite a few shortcomings, such as:
1. Cascading Effect (Tax on Tax)
2. Tax Evasion
3. Corruption All this led to lesser tax collection, as expected by the government, and also an increase
in the price level. Hence the government of India launched GST (GOODS AND SERVICE TAX ).
Introduction of GST in taxation system GST (Goods and Service Tax) also known as giant indirect tax
structure formed to support the economic growth of any country. More than 150 countries have
implemented GST in their taxation system. The idea of GST in india was rooted by Vajpayee govt in
2000 and the amendment was passed for same by the loksabha on 6th May 2015 but was yet to be
passed in rajyasabha. What is GST? Goods and Service Tax (GST) is a tax applied on manufacture,
sale and consumption of goods and services at a national level. It will be an uniform indirect tax and
applied uniformly on all goods and services. By introducing GST into practice there would be
amalgamation of central and state taxes into single tax payement. However, exports and direct tax like
income tax, corporate tax and capital gain tax will not be affected by GST. It was basically introduced
to overcome the problems of the earlier taxation system. Major benefit of introducing GST is its
nature of it being indifferent to goods and services as the tax is levied at each stage of the supply
chain. Also, all sectors will be taxed with very few exemptions

John Winthrop And Ralph Waldo Emerson
About a century ago, such scholar as Nietzsche disregarded the principles of modern factualism . Later
on, Weber established the end of the era of generalists. One cannot but state extreme specialization
and narrowly focused technical work to have changed certain visions into straight forward realities.
Concerning this essay, it is mainly aimed at analyzing the sociological speculations of two outstanding
thinkers John Winthrop and Ralph Waldo Emerson that, in view of widely acknowledged scholars,
reflect the state of public opinion even though they date back over two centuries; to be precise, the
focus lies in comparing and contrasting the utopian visions of the two above mentioned thinkers,
making emphasis on what utopia meant for these two authors and the way it was supposed to be
achieved. Moreover, the paper is focused on interpreting and coming to terms with the pivotal social
movements of Puritanism as well as transcendentalism. Speaking about the peculiarities of social
theories, it is necessary to take a view of recognized changes in vast domains of social life and culture.
The research will emphasize the main reconstructions of social and cultural theories due to historical
events. The essay is also targeted on finding out whether it is logically to discount all the concepts,
methods of the past, and acknowledge the new theoretical assumptions.
According to Kathleen M. Hogan of the University of Virginia, the historical yearning for some type
of American utopia

The Characters Of Education In Atticus Finch And Bob Ewell
During the Great Depression in the 1930 s over twelve million people were unemployed causing
people to become poor and homeless. The Great Depression affected those who had education and
worsened the living conditions for those who were less educated. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird,
Harper Lee compares two completely different people, Atticus Finch and Bob Ewell to display how
education affected different social castes in society. In the 1930 s the Great Depression came along as
a tragic era making education forgotten as America faced other issues. At this time, Atticus, a white
man and a father of two kids strives to portray an example of how important education is in a time of
struggle. On the other hand the character Bob Ewell is, a white man, is poor and extremely ignorant to
the value education and believes it has no effect on society. Atticus and Bob are men of different
beliefs and values. [Through the characterization of Atticus Finch and Bob Ewell the readers can
believe compassion is reached through education, which a man with compassion and education for
their community can lead to humanity.] Atticus is a well educated man as he demonstrates outstanding
habits through his actions. After, Scout asks why Atticus is defending Tom Robinson he say, For a
number of reasons, the main one is, if I didn t I couldn t hold up my head in town, I couldn t represent
this county in the legislature, I couldn t even tell you or Jem not to do something again. [...] Scout,
simply by the nature of the work, every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him
personally. This one s mine, I guess (Lee 56). Atticus, a man of great knowledge proves how respected
he is in Maycomb County. He points out that only men with knowledge and education are able to take
on a big responsible such as the one he is given. The purpose of this quote is to signify the importance
of education and how it lead him to such a high position in society. Compared to Bob Ewell, Atticus
contains the sification of how to action in times of importance. This affects the way people view
Atticus because now he s accepted and known as The Lawyer for Tom Robinson. For example, after
scout tells Atticus she doesn t want

My Day At The Animal Rescue Center ( Arc )
Finally, the end is here..for junior year that is. For some, this means no more volunteering and for
others, it may mean more. As for myself, I believe I will keep volunteering after my community
service hours are done. In a way, it has become sort of a procedural memory for me. Every Wednesday
my brain refers to its long term memory and how to perform the skills, operations, and actions needed
for cleaning kennels or walking dogs that day. My day at the Animal Rescue Center (ARC) of Carroll
starts with being greeted with barks from the dogs. Next, my brain pulls out from long term to get
doors down so the dogs can t get outside, get my cleaning supplies needed, get the keys to unlock the
outside kennel doors, and get to work. And when I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, sometimes our minds can get away from us with absent mindedness. This occurs when we
do not pay enough attention to a bit of information when we should be encoding it; it often occurs
when our attention is divided. For example, we may get distracted while walking a dog by a butterfly
or a strange noise and with this distraction, it can cause our attention to stray from the dogś
surroundings to that object. If this occurs, the dog may escape from our grasp and into possible danger
like traffic. But ARC does have rules that may prevent this even with absent mindedness; walkers
have to have the leash around their wrist and in their hands to prevent runaway dogs. Absent
mindedness can also occur in a less dangerous matter. It could occur when cleaning kennels. Since we
are so used to cleaning the same kennel walls every week, we may space out while hosing down the
walls or spraying solution to sanitize them. Because at that point, we are just going through the
motions.
These routine motions are called algorithms. Algorithms are defined as step by step procedures or
methods that always produce the correct solution; a routine. The algorithm for the dog kennels at ARC
are actually very simple, but critical for the building and the dogs. For cleaning the inside kennels, the
first step is to close all of the doors leading to the outside kennels. Following that is to get the dog in
the kennel you are about to clean on a leash and ready to walk by a fellow

Disadvantages Of Industrialization
The Industrialization brought many changes to the United States after the devastating Civil War ,
which brought a many losses of life. At the same time, the war helped the country develop even more
materialistic. The Industrialization began in the United States in 1865 after the Civil War it went
developing for the next five decades. The first transactional railroad was completed in 1869 by
workers from China that were paid poorly . There was many more inventions throughout the
Industrialization from 1869 1914 that helped the Nation developed. The Industrialization was a
process that helped the economy transform into something better and individual laborers are replaced
by mass production and craftsman by assembly lines, but even though it meant maybe more work to
many s. This affected many due to the poorly paid laborers who worked hard and did not get many
advantages from that. It helped in ways that the economy grew even more and better that helped
society but not those who were poor. The Industrialization did not much helped many of the workers,
who appeared most likely to be immigrants, many of them and their families lived in really bad
conditions and had horrible working conditions as well with poor pay for the amount of hours worked,
that sometimes those mass productions consisted of child labor.
Industrialization impacted the lives of many including children who worked instead of going to school
to help support their families. Children back in 1908 1912 worked to get money and help support
financially their families many of these children did not attend school whatsoever. As shown on
document E we observe images of children working in factories, and having jobs that an adult would
have, these children would work to help parents with household. This impact was negative because
many children worked to help parents instead of having a childhood they thought that they had to help
parents out instead of attending school. On document H child labor stopped for the good of the
children, the U.S. set laws in which minors had to follow to be able to maintain a job. Minors ober the
age of sixteen years and under 18 may not be employed except upon the presentation of a school

Why Does A Teacher Need Be A Good Manager
Why does a teacher need to be a good manager ? A teacher needs to be a good manager to ensure
learning occurs. Without good management skills, learning may not be achieved and the classroom
could fall into chaos. To be a good manager in a classroom the teacher needs several tools. These shall
be explored below. The classroom is its own ecosystem. The features of this ecosystem revolve around
creating a positive atmosphere for learning (Karnovsky, 2015). However, this does not occur
overnight, it takes time and energy from the teacher and the students to develop this atmosphere. One
method to achieve this, is a student behavioral agreement. This consists of four core concepts; student
s rights and responsibilities, classroom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This agreement which helps create the classroom ecosystem, is also a strategy in preventing
problematic behavior. However, there are many more strategies which can be used in different parts of
the lesson to minimize and prevent misbehavior. According to Rudolf Dreikurs (Crandall, 2012), there
are four goals of misbehavior. These are; attention, power, revenge and assumed disability. To prevent
this from occurring the teacher must create a classroom with a sense of belonging, cohesive bonding
and appropriate instructional skills. However, doing this does not ensure that they will behave, it is
better to assume that all students will misbehave at some point if given the chance. When students do
misbehave, teachers can employ the Bumps Model to react appropriately to the level of misbehavior.
The Bumps Model is comprised of 10 levels. The bump is the student s escalation. It is important that
the teacher can distinguish between what is effective and ineffective to select the best method
(Bennett, 1994). At Bump level one the teacher is responding to students when they first cause a
disruption, the teacher s response will be low key, e.g.; proximity, the look, and saying the student s
name. This follows Kounin (1970) slowdowns, in which the teacher keeps flowing through the
material and not letting a small misbehavior get in the way of the teaching. The teacher s response

Off Balance Research Paper
Fundamentals of an Off Balance When I first joined judo I never expected to learn so many things in
just a small timely manner. Within the first week I already learned how to do throws, takedowns, and
submissions which were the basic essentials to mastering judo. Judo explained in the English
dictionary means an unarmed combat intended to train the body and mind. The objective is to either
throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a
pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke. As I continued on doing judo I could
not figure out how to successfully execute a throw during the opponent s brief moment of off balance ,
until one of my upper classmate taught me how to do it correctly because it all depended entirely on
timing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a simple push, shove, or pull in a direction that will take the opponent off balance. In order to win,
the opponent must be thrown with control, force, and on their back. By either pushing, shoving, or
pulling an opponent off balance, the execution of the actual throw is made substantially easier since
they will be leaning in that direction. Think of an off balance in Judo like pushing someone forward
and quickly extending a foot out so that they trip and fall. This example shows how timing is
everything, extend the foot too late after the push and they won t trip, too early and they might just
stumble a bit. It s a crude example, but it shows the relationship between off balance and timing of the
execution. Much like how one must quickly extend a foot at the right moment, a Judoka has but a few
seconds to off balance and throw an opponent all in one continuous and fluid motion. The timing of
the throw during the off balance will determine if it is successful. Without the off balance, a throw is
conceivably possible yet substantially more difficult to pull

A short term compensatory response for respiratory acidosis might include an immediate slight
increase in bicarbonate levels. Another example of compensation would be hyperventilation as a
response to metabolic acidosis. The compensatory response for respiratory alkalosis is a fall in the
bicarbonate level in chronic respiratory alkalosis this is achieved through renal excretion over time,
while in an acute state, lower levels of CO2 produce a slight decrease of HCO3 . The compensatory
response for metabolic alkalosis is hypoventilation. If all three values are abnormal, the patient is in a
partially compensated state because the buffer is actively working to push the equation to equilibrium
to obtain a normal pH value. If the pH is normal and the CO2 and HCO3 are both abnormal, the
patient is in a fully compensated state. If the pH is abnormal and either the CO2 or HCO3 are
abnormal, the patient is in an uncompensated state. The overall goal of compensation is to push the

  • 2. The Dream Argument by Rene Descartes Essay One of Rene Descartes s most famous arguments, from his not only from his first meditation but all of the meditations, is his Dream Argument. Descartes believes that there is no way to be able to distinguish being in awake from being in a state of dreaming. In fact you could actually be in a dream right now. Rene Descartes s theory that one is unable distinguish being awake from dreaming, as interesting as it is, can be at times a little farfetched, along with a few contradictions to himself, Descartes s dream argument does not entitle himself to any sort of claim. Descartes wrote the Meditations on First Philosophy were first published in the year 1641 in Latin. There are six total Meditations that Descartes had written. One thing that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is deception from the sense that causes this mistrust for Descartes and brings forth the Dream Argument. The human senses as well feel very real, just as they do in reality, and this is one of the first things that have Descartes question the differences between being awake and dream. Due to the trust issues it he becomes unsure of whether he is dreaming or not. When it comes to dreaming Descartes thinks that there could possibility that some certain God that may have easily deceived him in falsely believing in things could appear to be correct but are not. However Descartes says that it God is described as a supremely good being (Descartes, 21). God has always been a being that is worshiped and why would so many people worship an evil God if he brings no positives to their lives. Descartes however is not 100 percent positive on whether God is being deceptive or not being deceptive. James Hill says that [the] key move that Descartes then makes is to highlight the lack of insight one has into one s condition when dreaming. It is this lack of insight, and Descartes way of interpreting it, which forms the backbone of the dreaming argument (Hill, 2). To shorten that down, the minimal explanations to why and how dreams occur is the foundation for Descartes s Dream Argument. The main idea of Descartes is that there is no difference between being awake and dreaming. Descartes says there are no definite signs to differ dreaming from being awake. You could be possibly ... Describe the Major bones, muscles, joints and joint actions used to perform this movement skill and how they influence the way the body moves. The overarm throw is a skill frequently used in a wide range of sports such as cricket, softball and baseball. The action is also used in athletic activities such as javelin, with the overhead serve and smash in tennis, volleyball and badminton and passing a netball and basketball. An overarm throw is the action of the arm swinging backwards then upwards, as the elbow moves close to ear level, leading the throw forward a step is taken with the foot opposite the throwing arm, during the throw, body rotates to face forward and body weight transfers from back to front foot, the elbow then ... • 5. The Narcissism Epidemic Analysis Narcissism the American way of thinking and we don t have to look far to find it. Todays celebrities flaunt their oversized egos and too hot for you bodies. Access Hollywood thrives on potential celebrity truths and gossip magazines. Society operate under the pleasure principle, accepting nothing less that what we deserve. We buy houses on easy credit with an APR of 18% or higher. Facebook has become a way of expressing ourselves. Clothing has become optional and we question how we got here? Jean M. Twenge and W. Keith Campbell, authors of The Narcissism Epidemic, have compiled enticing and compelling evidence for the development of culturally accepted narcissism. According to the two, there are more narcissists than ever; even non narcissistic people are being seduced by cultural emphasis on material wealth, physical appearance, and celebrity gossip (Twenge Campbell, 2009, pp. 1 2). Standards have shifted, trapping otherwise humble people into believing societies standards for success. Twenge and Campbell s book was designed as a wake up call. The two authors work together to uncover the truth behind societal narcissism, while revealing its long term consequences. The word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another aspect of the cover is the statement made by San Francisco Chronicles, which reads: Chronicles the obsession that many Americans have with, well, themselves...thinking themselves entitled to thing they haven t earned: It puts them at a terrible disadvantage in a global marketplace that is, all the time, getting more competitive. • 6. Sexual Assault At The West Chester University Of Pennsylvania One in five women are sexually assaulted while in college (Not Alone, 2014). In our class of twenty women that means that possibly five women have been sexually assaulted. Out of the five women that I stated could have been sexually assaulted they may have known the perpetrator and often will not report what has happened. According to the spring count of students completed by West Chester University, 9,211 of those students were females ( Headcount Enrollment , 2014). If I go by the statistic mentioned earlier that one in five women is assaulted that would mean that 1,842 women have been sexually assaulted while enrolled at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Out of 1,842 possible assaults only four were reported last year. Two of which the victims knew prior to the assault. Rankin and Associates consulting conducted a Climate Assessment on West Chester University in September of 2010, a section of the results focused on sexual assault on students. According to the report seven people who reported a sexual assault to the university described their reactions to the universities response. Two students shared the way they felt the response was inappropriate or poor. One described that they felt the suspension for one semester was not an appropriate response to an admitted rape, that public safety lost the victims statement, judicial affairs painted the victim offender as innocent, and that the registrar protected the offender putting the victim in harm s way and everyone ... The View that Religion Acts as a Conservative Force on Society Even though sociologists do not have a true definition of religion they believe that religion is a belief in the supernatural. Some sociologists believe that religion acts as a conservative force. A conservative force is something that prevents change within society and also maintains the status quo. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Malinowski a functionalist focuses on the psychological needs of individuals in times of stress. Malinowski believes religion provides people with meanings in times of life crisis for example death and funerals. Things such as funerals allow people to move on and minimise the disruption to society. He argues that the idea of heaven provides people with a meaning of life. This maintains the status quo as it allows people to get on with day to day life. Malinowski did a study of the Troiband Island and he argued people use religion in times of uncertainty. He found that when the people of the island went to out to fish they felt safe when they fished in the lagoon they felt safe as they was close to home, However when they went to fish out in the sea where the survival rate was low they would pray to god to keep them safe. This shows that religion is a conservative force as it maintains the status quo because it allows people to forget their problems and carry on with their every day life. • 9. Negligence Essay Negligence is used in tort in order to provide a remedy for those who have suffered any loss or injury, due to a defendant s actions. If a defendant had a duty of care towards the claimant, then a remedy can be enforced to cover for any losses. Factual causation in negligence establishes whether it was the defendant in fact who caused the harm, in order to determine the factual causation, the but for test is used. The but for test includes asking the question of but for the defendant s carelessness, would the claimant have escaped harm? The factual causation would be determined if the answer is yes , as harm would have not occurred if the defendant did not breach the duty of care. If the answer is no then the defendant would not be held liable. The but for test states that X is the cause of Y if Y would not have occurred in the absence of X . An advantage of the but for test is that it allows the defendant to take full liability, if their actions were the cause of harm to the claimant. Once an answer is obtained through ... However, the boy was correctly diagnosed a few days later but paralysis still occurred. The but for test was used here as it was stated that if the doctors had diagnosed the boy properly the first time, then there would have been a chance of 25% that the condition would not have occurred. A quote in which is true in the stories that this author wrote and in her own life. In the short stories and poem, from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Caged Bird, New Directions, and Woman Work, Maya Angelou writes about the human spirit and freedom. In each of her works of literature, Angelou addresses the point of being free and creating your own life. Although it isn t stated in all of the stories, one can infer the meaning based off of the context of the story. In the story, from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Angelou talks about her early life as a child. It was not the most pleasant experience for someone go through, but her will to survive and be free kept her going. The overall tone of the story was negative and used slang. This is shown when the author writes, Home fo bits and six bits... • 13. What Is A Lie Essay The lie. I mean the lie is the first sin we commit. As children, we often learn always to tell the truth. However, there is an opportunity in life when we are taking the first steps toward a lie: to avoid a punishment, to achieve a goal, to adapt to a situation, or to enhance our status. It is for this reason that the lies are so close to us. There are different levels of lies, and none of them is okay, not even the white little lie. A white lie is a lie that offers consolation and a false belief of security. The best cover up of the lie is the absence of truth. The absence of truth is a lie that is harder to see through but to defraud, and omission of information as a tool to fool us from the truth is a lie straight through. One of the main features of people who defraud information or omit the truth is that they are constantly on the defensive. It gives you confidences, self esteem, and respect. To others, it provides integrity, authenticity, and an opportunity for a free choice. Fresno, the 5th largest city in California, is listed as the 8th least literate city in the US. It s surprising that I even made it to graduate school after reading statistics like these. My objective is to reflect on my school experience, and explore how culture, school structure and family influences contributed to my successful completion of grades K 16, even when the odds were not in my favor. I came from a working class family of six whose ethnicity was mixed my father, White and my mother, Hispanic. My siblings and I all went to Slater Elementary School from Kindergarten to 6th grade. The school was less than a mile from my home, and the community was made up mostly of working and lower middle class families. The ethnic distribution of my neighborhood was 53.8% Hispanic, 28.2% White, 9.3% Black, 5.5% Asian, and 2% mixed race. Coming from a mixed race family had its own challenges. In addition to being a cultural outlier in the community, I was always confused about who I was ethnically, and was forced to choose which one identified with more (White or Hispanic) on standardized tests, or when participating with play groups. • 15. The Role Of Atrocity In The Film Th How There is a huge difference between the cause of atrocity and atrocity itself. The cause of atrocity usually comes from different pursuits of harm or anger, in all shapes and forms. Atrocity can be found in different religions or countries. In other words atrocity has been shown from the British in 1840 s when the British government decided that cheaper goods was more valuable than feeding its comrades in Ireland. The Germans have displayed atrocity in the 1940 s when Adolf Hitler s political party rose to power, also known as Nazis. The most specific example of Atrocity can be displayed when Hitler order the final solution to be carried out by his first hand and loyal friend Heinrich Himmler. There is no doubt that atrocity comes from certain individuals or entire government. Pursuing a political position should be beyond our own agenda, it should be from a natural stance of understanding life and an entire nation. After all, a look at what certain individuals did when they were part of political party and before it; is just amazing the vast changes that can be seen. However, to have too much pride for the growth of one specific population is a horrible mentality. But that didn t stop the Nazis in world war two as we can see it in the film ... • 16. The Man Of The Mountain By Zora Neale Hurston Essay Zora Neale Hurston s Moses Man of the Mountain is one of the most successful novels where she expresses various characteristics of an ideal leader through her main character Moses. At the same time, she addresses other leaders such as Aaron and Miriam and explains how they fail to contribute as leaders because of their selfish attitudes. Hurston highlights Moses as an old man with great lawgiver. In her novel, Hurston turns the biblical character Moses into a spiritual African American leader who can uses magic (hoodoo) and folklore to guide his people. By creating a conflict among Moses, Aaron, and Miriam Zora Neale Hurston compares Moses altruistic leadership qualities to Aaron and Miriam self centered qualities in order to simultaneously illustrate Moses as a representative of African American leader who combines magic and folklore to lead his people. Moses spiritual journey is an allegory of the African American search of freedom from enslavement in the United States. Although a literature review was not specifically provided in it s own section, overall general concepts were mentioned and referenced as a reason for the study. The researchers did focus extensively on articles that covered central line associated infects, hospital infection control and implementation of catheter bundles. Of the 36 articles referenced, 26 of them were dated between 2010 and 2015, and the remaining 10 were dated between 2002 and 2009, therefore the time frames for these articles are appropriate for the study. A weakness for this type of data collection can be related to human error and improper or incorrect notation of information on the checklists. Attempts to prevent these kind of errors can be related to all members of the catheter teams had to attend training at the beginning, middle and end of the study to show competence and understanding on all components of the maintenance bundle. Additionally, nursing directors, at each facility would conduct random once a week inspections of every patient that had a central line and complete a checklist to capture the data. A clinical trial manager would review the checklists and would also conduct on site compliance visits (Grigonis et. al., 2016). There are many beneficial reasons for incentive based programs to be used in the state of Michigan. While many may view them as some useless program, there is much upside to have them. For example, these programs support local film makers, make locations more desired, create jobs, work well on a credit based system, and provide a competitive advantage. On the subject of supporting local film makes, in response to Michigan eliminating its incentive program, local filmmakers were highly upset. One filmmaker stated they don t care about what we care about as creative people, as entrepreneurs, as artists, as people who are trying to make a living. (Egan, p. 1) While the state did what they felt was right, discontinuing the program created friction within the film making community. One of the states key jobs is to provide for all citizens. The act of composing dictionaries, lexicography, was seen as peculiar; however, men such as Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster dared to defy such ideologies. Both men had their own reasons for taking on the daunting challenge of writing a dictionary of the English Language. Their reasons may greatly differ such as Webster s motivation of strengthening the national identity and Johnson s reason of standardizing words with his witty definitions. Despite of their different motives for defining words, Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster s beliefs can cross paths, they both wanted certain words to be spelled more appropriately. Samuel Johnson was widely known for his criticism and witty remarks towards a variety of people, which does not exclude himself. Johnson s dictionary is filled with facetious definitions that are mocking someone. For instance, his famous definition of oats is offensive towards Scottish people. His definition of the word oats is, A grain, which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland appears to support the people. The way he chose to define the word oats reveals not only that Johnson thought the Scots were hapless and inferior, but also that Johnson had a critical tone in his dictionary, A Dictionary of the English Language. If this occurs, the dog may escape from our grasp and into possible danger like traffic. But ARC does have rules that may prevent this even with absent mindedness; walkers have to have the leash around their wrist and in their hands to prevent runaway dogs. There was many more inventions throughout the Industrialization from 1869 1914 that helped the Nation developed. The Industrialization was a process that helped the economy transform into something better and individual laborers are replaced by mass production and craftsman by assembly lines, but even though it meant maybe more work to many s. Without good management skills, learning may not be achieved and the classroom could fall into chaos. To be a good manager in a classroom the teacher needs several tools. These shall be explored below. The classroom is its own ecosystem. The features of this ecosystem revolve around creating a positive atmosphere for learning (Karnovsky, 2015). However, this does not occur overnight, it takes time and energy from the teacher and the students to develop this atmosphere. One method to achieve this, is a student behavioral agreement. This agreement which helps create the classroom ecosystem, is also a strategy in preventing problematic behavior. However, there are many more strategies which can be used in different parts of the lesson to minimize and prevent misbehavior. According to Rudolf Dreikurs (Crandall, 2012), there are four goals of misbehavior. These are; attention, power, revenge and assumed disability. To prevent this from occurring the teacher must create a classroom with a sense of belonging, cohesive bonding and appropriate instructional skills. However, doing this does not ensure that they will behave, it is better to assume that all students will misbehave at some point if given the chance. When students do misbehave, teachers can employ the Bumps Model to react appropriately to the level of misbehavior. The Bumps Model is comprised of 10 levels. The bump is the student s escalation. It is important that the teacher can distinguish between what is effective and ineffective to select the best method (Bennett, 1994). At Bump level one the teacher is responding to students when they first cause a disruption, the teacher s response will be low key, e.g.; proximity, the look, and saying the student s name. Within the first week I already learned how to do throws, takedowns, and submissions which were the basic essentials to mastering judo. Judo explained in the English dictionary means an unarmed combat intended to train the body and mind. The objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue an opponent with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke. As I continued on doing judo I could not figure out how to successfully execute a throw during the opponent s brief moment of off balance , until one of my upper classmate taught me how to do it correctly because it all depended entirely on timing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s a simple push, shove, or pull in a direction that will take the opponent off balance. In order to win, the opponent must be thrown with control, force, and on their back. By either pushing, shoving, or pulling an opponent off balance, the execution of the actual throw is made substantially easier since they will be leaning in that direction. Think of an off balance in Judo like pushing someone forward and quickly extending a foot out so that they trip and fall. This example shows how timing is everything, extend the foot too late after the push and they won t trip, too early and they might just stumble a bit. It s a crude example, but it shows the relationship between off balance and timing of the execution. Much like how one must quickly extend a foot at the right moment, a Judoka has but a few seconds to off balance and throw an opponent all in one continuous and fluid motion. The timing of the throw during the off balance will determine if it is successful. Without the off balance, a throw is conceivably possible yet substantially more difficult to pull ...
