Samuel Mongeau Eel Lecture Summary
Guest Lecture Analysis: Eels by Samuel Mongeau
Samuel Mongeau s informative lecture about eels covered topics of the benefits and usage of eels in
Canadian society during the 16th century. Furthermore, Mongeau presents his lecture with a personal
but wide viewpoint on the significance of eels to Canadian history.
To begin, Mongeau acknowledges the limited research on eels as they are simultaneously dying
rapidly, with a 97% decline in the eel population since 1980. However, in the 16th century, there was
an abundance of eels in which they served multiple purposes, yet historical documents failed to take
note of these eels, for the primary focus was mainly on the fur trade. Nevertheless, eels served to be a
main survival food for the Indigenous peoples. Eels were incredibly populous along the St. Lawrence
river and they migrated seasonally during the winter months. This was optimal for survival purposes
because eels are high in fat and they were not a scarce resource at the time. Additionally, the large
population of eels helped to boost the national economy as it created an internal and external market in
Canada. In turn, this promoted the development of social institutions as the growing economy could
now afford to invest in such establishments. On the other hand, during the creation of New France 2.0,
Canada s economy substituted fur and eel trades with cod fish for they were more profitable and
valuable. This had progressed Canada into a more modern economy through ... Show more content on

Cartier was attracted to the grand eel fishery and established relationships with the St. Lawrence
Iroquoians. Later, Champlain voyaged out to present day Quebec City for the large eel fishery

Vikings Impact On Society
The Impact of the Vikings
Ike Sarac
While the Vikings may have existed over a thousand years ago, they have not gone forgotten. Not just
a football team has remained and effected modern culture. The Viking age has left a large impression
of the world most through their powerful military, prominent geography, historical figures, and their
complex accomplishments. Why do 21st century people feel the need to study the Vikings today?
Would the world we know today be different without the presence of these people centuries ago? Why
do Minnesotans seem to identify with these ancient people so much? The Vikings lived and explored
parts of the world that are prominent and remain to have a large impact in modern times. Norway,
Scandinavia, Sweden, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to Minnesotans, the weather conditions strengthened this group of people. Many farmers ha to
make sure they had enough food stored away to last them through to the spring. If these crops were to
fail, the threat of starvation would soon loom over them. Adding to that, these regions of the planet
helped the Vikings in their powers and successes in raiding. Most Viking movements resulted in trade
and a more prosperous economy. All in all, much like Minnesota, the geography were the Vikings

accomplishments. For example, Iceland according to The Penguin Atlas is home to some of the richest
medieval literature. Stories, legends, and myths have endured the test of time. Poetry in Skaldic and
Eddic verse are still preserved and feature a copious amount of pagan gods and valued Scandinavian
characters. The Vikings were considered to be highly skilled artists and craftworkers. Just about
everything they used was made by hand. Materials like wood, iron, clay, and iron were used to make
the majority of their everyday items. Even bone was used to make needles, and

Pursuing A Career As A Soccer Player
Everybody has asked, what is the most interesting job? What do you want to study? In these days,
people are looking for a good job that can improve his/her future, but there some types of jobs that are
not secure or do not offer too many opportunities. Therefore, people need to be careful about what
they want to study. There are three types of jobs I would like to work: Soccer coach, business
administration, and doctor.
One of the three jobs I would like to work is soccer coach. I chose this because I love soccer. To be
honest, since I was a child, I have wanted to be a soccer player. I had that dream on my mind, but
unfortunately, I had a serious injury in my knee and I could not play anymore. The reason why I want
to be a soccer coach is because I want to be involved in the soccer world, even if I have an injury in
my knee. I want to create new professional soccer players. I just want to teach people who love soccer
how to play. Soccer is the most popular sport around the world, especially in Latin America and
Europe and it is one of the few sports in which you can use your whole body: feet, arms, hands, chest,
shoulders, and even your back. To be a soccer coach you need to be a boss, a father, you have to know
hot treat your team and give them good advice, you need to have leadership, and you have to have
sufficient knowledge about the sport. Before being a coach, you have to do a special course. After that
you get an authorized license. In the United States

Good Neighbor Nextdoor Problem Analysis
The Good Neighbor Nextdoor program seeks to address two problems facing communities across
America Today. The first problem is the shortage of doctors in rural and undesirable communities. The
second problem is the prevalence of blight and vacant housing in many of the same communities
suffering from a shortage of doctors. Both of these problems have solutions, by offering citizenship to
foreign doctors willing to move into communities having both a shortage of doctors and a surplus of
vacant housing. The final benefit offered by the Good Neighbor Nextdoor program will be in the long
term economic growth within the community caused by the opening of a doctor s office in the
neighborhood. The act of placing doctors into struggling communities ... Show more content on

only will billing create jobs in the community, but also it will bring in outside money from insurance
companies and government reimbursement programs. The economic benefits my not bear fruit
immediately, but will help to sustain the targeted communities for years to

The Characteristics Of A Hero In The Odyssey, By Homer
here are many characteristics that fall under a hero. Throughout The Odyssey, by Homer, Odysseus
proves that he has some of these characteristics, by experiencing many challenges and difficulties on
his journey back home. While going through these hard times, Odysseus gains values of a hero.
Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus displays many Greek values, which characterize him as a hero.
Odysseus goes through experiences where justice prevails over hardship. For example, Odysseus loses
many of his men during the trip, but he still survives. At one island, some of his men are killed and
before he would get killed too, Odysseus starts sailing away with his remaining men. After finding out
his men have been killed, Odysseus says, From that place we sailed on, glad enough to have come off
with our lives, but sad to lose our companions (114 115). Even though Odysseus loses some of his
companions, he is able to continue along with his journey. Shortly after, Odysseus came to the
underworld and got to talk to the dead and hear their stories. While speaking to the dead, his mom
appears and Odysseus realizes she is dead. She wants to talk to him because Odysseus did not see or
hear from her since the start of his journey. Odysseus asks his mom how everyone is doing at home.
Odysseus says, But do tell me, really and truly, what was the cause of youth death? how did you die?
Was it a long disease? or did Artemis Archeress kill you with her gentle shafts? And tell me about my
father and the son I left behind me: do they still hold my honours and my possessions, or have they
passed to some other man because people think I will never return? And tell me of my wedded wife,
what she thinks and what she means to do. Does she remain with the boy and keep all safe, or has she
already married the best man who offered? My beloved mother answered (127). Although Odysseus is
very sad his mom isn t alive anymore, he is very happy to hear how his family is doing at home.
Getting the updates on his family, helps Odysseus deal the grieving he has because of his mother s
death.Odysseus is able to overcome hardships, which help him develop into more of a hero. More
significantly, Odysseus shows his physical strength in multiple

Napoleon At Waterloo Analysis
Napoleon the Crushing defeat at Waterloo
Tyler Daniels
Taylor Homeschool Group
Abstract
The fall of Napoleon at Waterloo was a somewhat spectacular event. Before that, we need to
understand some things before that to get the whole story we need to see about the phenomenon
known as the 100 days that are the rise of Napoleon back to power and the fall back to the bottom this
includes the Battle at Waterloo. Which is the most crucial fight in the 100 days when he would run off
the battlefield and come back to France unannounced and after trying to run to America to flee the
British who were hot on their tail! In the end, he would live out the rest of his days in exile without
contact with his sun and only a few friends to accompany him. In the end, Napoleon would die on the
island and be buried there just to get moved to his final resting place in France this Napoleon would
forever be burned in the minds of many. waterloo would be his last battle where he would not even
stay to see the outcome and fled in the night like a coward and would die to write his book where he
would shun all things evil and only focus on the good
The events leading to Waterloo and after

If you have ever been to Seaworld you would have had to go see the Killer whales in fact its one of
the top attractions there. Through the eyes of a child, these gentle giants seem to be happy, healthy,
and enjoying a playful game with their trainers. The question is are they really happy, do they get
treated the right way, and why have there been deaths and injuries. Many people wonder about these
things and after the movie Blackfish came out more and more people began to question how well
Seaworld treats their animals. The truth is that Sea World keeps its animals for entertainment and
money and helps no one but themselves. Animal Legal Defense Fund Most people believe that the

Once he was in America he didn t go straight to Seaworld, he actually started at a small marine park in
Florida called Sealand. While he was there the trainer used the female orcas to teach Tilikum all the
tricks, but if he did not perform it the correct way there would be a punishment. This meant that
neither of the orcas would get a reward which was food.the females became mad at tilikum and would
rake him, meaning they would scrape their teeth across the length of his body. The conditions at the
very small marine park were awful for such large animals, the tank that all three of them were put into
was only 100 foot by 50 foot pool that was just 35 feet deep. Now you would think after being trapped
in such a small space would make you go a little crazy, and in Tilikum s case it did. While he was at
Sealand he was the cause of a trainer s death, he had drowned her, this was the first humane killed.
Eventually Sealand shutdown, and on January 3, 1992 SeaWorld applied for an emergency permit
authorizing immediate importation of Tilikum for medical reasons. PBS, Frontline. Once he was at
Seaworld he was put straight to work learning all the routines, but his living conditions didn t get

Examples Of Ambiguity In Catullus
V Ambiguity and Paradoxes
Ambiguity can be defined as a word, phrase, or statement which contains more than one meaning.
Ambiguity leads to vagueness and confusion which creates alternative reactions and understanding of
the same work.
Catullus uses ambiguity to create a sensation that one situation is taking place even when reading the
verse form in context or merely studying the poem in its entirety the work takes on a whole new
significance.
The poem opens with depictions of beauty imaginary of the Argo s first voyage alluding that poem
may be about the myth of Jason and Medea. Later in line 19 though we see the real subject of the
poem is Peleus and Thetis, how they fell in love and their marriage, however, things take a dramatic
turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is the tapestry Ariadne appears on. Catullus does not state its source and origin nor
its purpose.
Yet, more than half of the poem is narrated through the tapestry. We are to believe what it sees, hears
and says but we only have one side, and see a forgetful Theseus whose promises are fitting to write on
the wind. Paradoxically, however, what Ariadne sees also alludes to, and so makes us see, a different
picture: a Theseus who could have been made forgetful to serve the purposes of Bacch.
In poem 85 as discussed above, Catullus also makes use of paradoxes stating I love and I hate. In 68a
Catullus states that he being overcome by grief due to his brother s death is unable to write. Then in
68b although he is still experiencing the same pain to which he refers in 68a and in which Catullus
repeats almost exactly what he said in 68a, Catullus states that he cannot stop himself from writing.
He captures two entirely different experiences: first, his inability to write poetry in 68a, due to his
brother death, and second, his inability not to write poetry, despite his brother s

Corruption In The Great Gatsby Essay
The wealthy in the late 20 s was corrupt and selfish. In the Great Gatsby the upper class is shown as
corruptive. The people in the upper class such as Tom and Daisy don t really care about their actions
because they feel invincible due to their amount of money and the power they have. Fitzgerald
illustrates the corruption in the way upper class is care less about their behavior. The way people in the
upper class behave toward others and in society demonstrates how corruptive they are. At Gatsby
parties the people behaved as they wanted like when Lucille was telling Jordan about going to one of
the parties I never care what I do, so I always have a good time (The Great Gatsby 23). In other words

that doesn t care about anything else than power and money. Even though Nick believes that Gatsby is
different than the others in the wealthy he was just as corrupt and dishonest as the others in the upper
class. When they were all together Tom revealed what he had find out about how Gatsby made his
money and he disclose I find out what your drug stores were (The Great Gatsby 284). He was
referring to the illegal alcohol that Gatsby as selling to make his fortune. Tom was pointing out how
Gatsby s money wasn t honest to make him look bad in front of Daisy and everybody else. Nick was
trying to know more about Gatsby and his business life and he because some of the things Gatsby was
saying didn t add up so Nick indicated I thought you inherited your money. I did, old sport, he said
automatically, but I lost most of it in the big panic the panic of the war. I think he hardly knew what he
was saying, for when I asked him what business he was in he answered, That s my affair, before he
realized that it wasn t the appropriate reply (The Great Gatsby 97). The fact that Gatsby was lying
about how he made his money shows how dishonest and corrupt he was that he had to hid it.
In the way the upper class behaves careless about their actions in the Great Gatsby demonstrates how
corruptive they are. Gatsby, Daisy, and Tom are the main examples

How Does Atticus Change In To Kill A Mockingbird
When Jean Louise Scout Finch returns home to Maycomb County Alabama, she never expected the
mindset of the people in her hometown to change. Maycomb would become more advanced and
modern, but the views of the people she loved and grew up with, never would. Until comparatively
recently in its history, Maycomb County was so cut off from the rest of the nation that some of its
citizens, unaware of the South s political predilections over the past ninety years, still voted
Republican. (Lee 7). Since Maycomb is so distant from the awareness of certain historical events
taking place in the mid 1950s, Scout does not expect to find a change in people s mind relating to civil
rights. When Scout first arrives home and sees people like Atticus, Aunt ... Show more content on

All they did was go along with Maycomb and didn t bother to think about what they were standing for.
To Scout, this challenges what she used to think. She now has two different views of society and she
has to decide which one she s going to believe. Unlike the people in Maycomb, Scout wants to
question and find out the truth, Yes sir, I m upset about something. The citizens councilin you re
doing. I think it s disgusting and I ll tell you that right now. (Lee 238). Scout s anger about what the
council is enforcing and supporting isn t what anyone else in the town is feeling. Everyone else in
Maycomb goes along with it, even if some might not like it, they don t do anything about. Scout doesn
t like the way things are and it causes the reader to think and maybe even open one s eyes to see if
something like that is going on in the community. It gives the reader a good example of when going
along with society and not standing up for what one believes in can be bad, and what it can lead to;
prejudice, stereotypes, and even supremacy. [What Atticus is like] You draw the pictures. I ll make the
war. You re as cynical as he was. Jean Louise, I m only trying to tell you some plain truths. You must
see things as they are, as wel as they should be. (Lee 243). Scout can see more than Atticus can, as she
can see both sides. She sees the racist Maycomb side, and then she sees

Challenges and Opportunities of the Global Insurance Industry
Introduction
The global insurance industry seems to have escaped the worst of the financial crisis in comparison to
other financial institutions. Day to day business has been relatively unaffected but the area that gave
the most cause for concern has arisen from exposures to risky financial instruments. The Reactions
Magazine s Global Insurance Conference 2009 was held in Swissotel, Zurich, Switzerland. At this
conference the financial services industry tried to re set itself following the worst crisis for years.

Introduction This report targets the Romanian Government and it examines the positive and negative
aspects of the free admission to museums policy which is considered to be implemented in this
country. The main focus of this report is on how an increase in the demand for museum tickets will
boost the economy of Romania, by allowing people to visit museums for free. Throughout the report,
other examples of other countries such as the United Kingdom and Sweden will be used in order to
explain how free admission to museums will have a positive impact on Romania as well. Economic
functioning of the museum market, museum visitor statistics and demographic pattern for museum
visits A very important factor in the market is the price mechanism: ... Show more content on

The museum tickets demand for people from lower socio economic groups is elastic, because demand
for merit/luxury goods is directly related to their income. People from higher class groups can afford
merit goods and thus museum visits due to their increased income. Their demand for museum tickets
is inelastic. For them, museums would be normal goods instead of luxury ones, as for them it would
not be an effort to purchase museum tickets. Cross price elasticity of demand is the responsiveness of
demand for one good to a change in the price of another (Sloman and Jones 53): Substitute goods, or a
pair of goods which are considered by consumers to be alternatives to each other. As the price of one
goes up, the demand for the other rises (Sloman and Jones 35). For example, if the price of museum
tickets goes up, people would find easier to choose substitute goods such as amusement parks,
cinemas or theatres. Complementary goods, or a pair of goods consumed together. As the price of one
goes up, the demand for both goods will fall. (Sloman and Jones 35) If the price of museum tickets
would be lowered, or if the free admission scheme is implemented, then people would very likely go
to museums and buy goods that go well with their museum visits, such as personalised post cards,
souvenirs, posters, books etc. However, if the price of museum tickets rises, then demand for
complementary goods decreases. Income elasticity of demand is the responsiveness

Review of movie Stand By Me Essay
Review of movie Stand By Me
Stand By Me is a movie based on a novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of four preteens, who
during a boring summer day, embark on a journey to find the body of a dead twelve year old, who has
been missing by news accounts, but known to them, to be lying in the woods near a river bank. The
story is told as an historical narrative about the lives and relationships of the four main characters in
this movie, Gordy, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. In this essay, I will discuss how communication, and self
concept, affects the characters, and their interactions.
Gordy La Chance, who is the narrator of this story, can best be described as an introvert. He is living
in the shadow of his recently deceased brother, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He comes from what Gordy describes as a ?bad family?, and believes himself to be bad too. His self
fulfilling prophecy would be to turn out as bad as everyone in town believes that he will. Gordy sees
the good in him, and pushes him to be more than Chris perceives he is capable of being. Chris is the
group leader. The others in the group value his opinion, and he is the protector. He sticks up for the
rest of the boys, and they look up to him. One example of this is when Ace, an older, bullying local,
steals Gordy?s hat. He verbally attacks the older bully, on behalf of Gordy. His presenting self is
confident, independent, and tough. Inwardly, or his perceived self, is incapable, and destined to
become nothing, primarily caused by the locals, and his family continually reminding him that he
comes from a family of trouble, so he must trouble too.
Teddy DuChamp can best be described as an antagonist. His father abused him, and was eventually
put into an asylum, this leaving Teddy with a stigma of being the son of a ?looney?. This brought
about his self fulfilling prophecy of craziness. He has a problem with self control, to the point where it
could cause him serious harm. One example of this is when he begins arguing with the keeper of a
junkyard, and instead of backing down during the altercation, he continues to fight, without realizing
that he could be endangering himself. He spends

Persuasive Speech On Sexual Assault On College Campuses
Ileana Quintero
CST 110 13
I. Attention Step
Being sexually assaulted is one of the worst things that can happen to anyone during their lifetime.
Thesis/Preview: Sexual assault is a major problem in the United States and, specifically, on college
campuses. While no one thing will be able to solve this issue, I believe RAINN is an effective charity
that is working well to combat sexual assault and raise awareness.
II. Need
1. The problem: Sexual assault has become one of the forefront issues of our day. There has been an
increasing rate of sexual assaults in our society and specifically on college campuses.
2. Here s why this problem is really a problem: According to the national sexual violence resource
center, one in 5 women will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lives. The cost of rape costs
more than any other crime, even drunk driving; so this is one of the most common crimes in the USA.
The national sexual violence resource center also reports that it costs more annually than any other
crime, including drunk driving. Rape comes out to $127 billion while murder only comes out to $71
billion, and drunk driving $61 billion.
3. Here s how this problem impacts your life, audience: Sexual assault happens very often on
campuses. It can happen to anyone sitting in this room with me here today. 1 in 4 women experience
sexual assault while they are at college. Also, according to the national sexual violence resource

DETECTION IN CONSTRUCTION SITES INTRODUCTION AND JUSTIFICATION
Constructions sites are considered to be one of the most dangerous land based work sectors on earth,
with accidents and injuries considered to be an inevitable. Accidents in the construction industry hurt
the moral of workers and contractors as well as being costly for all parties involved. Various safety
measures have been implemented to reduce the occurrence of injuries as well as minimising risk of
injury when the accidents happen, in an effort to transition the construction industry to a zero injury
work environment. In Australia the concerted effort has already begun with mandatory safety training

It is plausible that higher rates of PPE compliance would result in lower rates of serious injury and
fatalities in the construction industry to move towards a zero injury workplace. Different types of PPE
like hard hats, safety vest, steel caped boots and hearing protection have been made mandatory in
work sites around Australia. Even though these restrictions have been applied to the field, many
incidents have occurred where workers have had insufficient PPE resulting in potentially avoidable
fatalities. PPE enforcement is a significant part of a supervisor s role at construction sites, however
due to other responsibilities and tight work schedules supervisors are not capable of monitoring each
and every worker on the site at all times. To overcome this deficiency, various automated solutions
have been researched for the detection of safety equipment. To support this role, a video based
monitoring tool is being developed that will alert the foreman to any non compliance taking place in
the site. The main focus of this project is the development of a real time video monitoring system
using the latest computer vision techniques. The video with be captured by a camera set up in

Wireless Sensor Networks Are Used For Detecting The...
Natural disasters have become very critical due to several reasons like global warming. Wireless
sensor networks are used for detecting the natural events by measuring the temperature, air pressure,
vibration, etc. and generate alarms. WSNs can measure the agitation of buildings, CO2 levels, and
weather monitoring, etc. (Yawut Kilaso, 2011).
WSN that utilized Zigbee/IEEE802.15.4 is utilized as a weather monitoring network. It sends the
information about the weather and generates hazard alarms. Decision tree techniques are used for
analysing the data at sensor site. Weather data is checked with a notification measurement (Yawut
Kilaso, 2011).

Grignard Reaction
Lab #5: Grignard Reaction Synthesis of Triphenylmethanol
John Kang
Chem 152L
Performed: 7/20/04
Date submitted: ________________
Lab Partners: Sang Lee, Vicky Lai
TA: John Stanko
Abstract:
This experiment explored the synthesis of triphenylmethanol through the use of Grignard reagents.
The percent yield of the product was 10% on a relatively humid day. The melting point was calculate
to be 127.2oC with a literature value of 162oC. An IR spectrum of the product was taken and used for
positive identification of the product. The mechanism of the formation of triphenylmethanol was
explored. Byproducts were also considered and their mechanisms duly noted.
Introduction:
This experiment explores the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At a density of 1.5g/mL and a molar mass of 157g/mol, the moles of bromobenzene used can be
calculated to be [pic].2 Since bromobenzene is assumed to be limiting and all reactions occur in a 1:1
ratio, the expected yield is also [pic]. Thus the percent yield is calculated to be [pic] This result will be
discarded because it defies logic. The experimental melting point was measured to be between
122.3oC and 132.1oC for an average of 127.2oC. The literature melting point is from 160 163oC for
an average of 162oC. An IR spectrum of the triphenylmethanol product has been attached separately
as Figure 4.
Discussion:
The mechanism by which trimethylphenol is formed is a carbonyl addition mechanism. The overall
reaction is summarized in Figure 3. The carbonyl carbon on the benzphenon is weakly electrophilic
and is attacked by carbanionic carbon of the Grignard reagent, phenylmagnesium bromide. This attack
causes the carbonyl oxygen to assume a 1 charge as a sp3 bonded oxygen. The magnesium from the
Grignard reagent then forms a complex with the oxygen and a mild acidic workup is added to
protonate the oxygen to release it from the magnesium complex. The percent yield of the
trimethylphenol product was rather low at 10%. However, due to the humid conditions during the day
of the experiment, this low yield was to be expected. Grignard reagents react quickly with water as
bases, forming OH ions. Since the Grignard reagent

Advantages Of Installing Casement Window
Most homeowners prefer using bay and picture windows in their home because they allow natural
light to enter their house. However, these windows require a lot of room, which makes it difficult for
most people to install these windows. If you plan to install these windows, you have to plan a wall of
glass, which can make the room colder or hotter than desired. Homeowners who want natural light it
their home, but don t have the space or money for it, can install casement windows in their home.
These windows are constructed on a single hinge which allows it to open outside, creating more space
inside your home. Also, since these windows open all the way, they allow maximum ventilation.
Easy to Install
One of the biggest advantages of casement windows is that they can be easily installed. Unlike bay or
picture windows, they don t require too much space on the wall and you can install them without
professional help. Even if get help from professionals, they will be able to complete the job in less
than a day. Also, unlike double hang windows which require you to be near it to have leverage when
you lift the sash, casement windows have no such requirement, as there is a turn around handle to do
the job for you. This feature makes them the perfect option for hard to reach areas, such as bathroom

The Beggar s Opera Essay
The Beggars Opera by John Gay was written in 1728 as a response to the political state in London.
Gay moved to London with no expectation of writing a satirical musical. Coming from no money, no
title, and no useful contacts he tried to find his own destiny. He took a job as an apprentice to a silk
merchant in an attempt to build his status. After realizing that he did not want to pursue a career in
silk, he moved on to working in a theater. He was then offered a jobs working for different nobilities
in London, gaining substantial connections with various members of the arts community. Through his
time with the upper crust of London, he noticed a flaw in society. His view on the upper class along
with his connections, his love for music, and his ability to write poetry led to the writing of The
Beggar s Opera. By definition a musical has five essential elements: music and lyrics, a book/libretto,
choreography, staging, and a physical production. If this is the true standard of a musical, then I
believe The Beggar s Opera by John Gay is the first musical. First, various composers wrote the music
for The Beggar s Opera because it was really just a collection of songs that have been previously
written with new lyrics. The show contains sixty nine songs, of those songs forty one of them ... Show

Opera the first show written to satisfy all the categories of creating a musical, but it exceeded it s

Charles Darwin s Theory Of Natural Selection
Charles Darwin Charles Darwin is a naturalist who was an important person to genetics. Darwin was
born on February 12, 1809. He created the Theory of Natural Selection and the Theory of Evolution.
He discovered how animals evolved in the past. Charles Darwin was one of the scientists who found
out about natural selection and evolution.
Early Life
Charles Darwin was the second youngest of his father s (R.W. Darwin s) children. He had his dad and
his mom but unfortunately died when he was 8 years old. His dad wanted his son to become a doctor,
but the sight of any blood Darwin sees, he gets queasy. Darwin still wanted to be a naturalist though. I
think that Darwin may have wanted to study nature anyways.

Pros And Cons Of Violent Role Playing Game Dilemmas
The VIolent Role Playing Game Dilemma
All of us must have seen the Las Vegas shooting news yesterday. A gunman shot down over 50 people
from his hotel room across the street, and injured countless more. When something like this happens,
we can t help but wonder what would make someone do something so awful like that. I don t know
what it is, but I do know the violent role playing games sweeping up our country s youth is not
helping. It is making these kids into aggressive monsters who think killing is fun in games. Teens
should not be allowed to play violent role playing games because there was a mass shooting the same
week as the Grand Theft Auto V release, it is creating new criminals, and it makes them more
aggressive.
These violent role playing games are games kids should not be allowed to play. The game GTA V is an
open world game where players rob cars, torture people, and go to strip clubs. In the week of May
18th 2013, GTA V was released and there was a mass shooting in Washington D.C. that killed dozens
of people, according to Erik Kain. I think there is a definite correlation between these two events. We
are talking about a game that encourages you to shoot and abuse people. Millions of copies of this
game are sold every year. This means millions of people now think its fun to kill people. They think it
s okay to kill. This is not the kind of image we want to be instilling in teens these days. Now, all the
video games are becoming more and more lifelike. Some

Catalhuyuk Women Analysis
Part 1: During the 1960 s an archeological dig conducted by James Mellaart took place in what is now
modern day Turkey. Mellaart was just one of many archeologists who wanted to understand the
civilizations of the Neolithic age, and Catalhuyuk (an early civilization which lived in what is now
modern day Turkey) in particular. The dig led to a discovery of multiple female figurines made from
baked clay called Venus figurines. These figurines were most likely created around 5,000 B.C.E. Part
2: The Venus figurines could have been made to express the way the Catalhuyuk people viewed
women. Considering how plentiful the figurines are, historians can infer that women were most likely
worshipped. Women in the Catalhuyuk civilization could have been worshipped for many reasons.
They were capable of pregnancy which people may have thought connected them to the earth. If they
had a direct connection to the earth, they were goddesses or special beings which would have be
celebrated and praised. Because religion played such a huge part in their everyday lives, perhaps the
people created the figurines to call upon the earth goddesses for rain, crops, or protection from illness.

This change could have been due to the rise of agriculture. The rise of agriculture meant that men didn
t have to hunt for food and women didn t have to gather food. Naturally the men decided that women
were too weak to participate in farming so the gender roles began to become imbalanced. The women,
not having to participate in food production were now viewed purely as tools for expanding their
population. Because the clock never ticked back in time, women still remain unequal to men this day.
If women could have played a part in the agricultural revolution, would gender roles would be more

The deepness in all things is extraordinary. This is also the case in Langston Hughes, Dreams The
poem Dreams is about how important dreams are and how the reader should always have dreams that
do not go away or never are let go. This poem is an eight line two stanza poem that follows a rhyme
scheme of A B C B. This poem makes the reader think of a harsh, cold land with no sign of life. The
poem Dreams also makes the reader feel chills and sadness. Mr. Hughes did a good job on making the
reader capture a specific landscape and view. The reader can vaguely understand where Mr. Hughes

Pros and Cons of Genetically Modified Foods Essay
The most wonderful activity a human being can experience is new flavors and foods. For example, the
first time a person tastes a delicious juicy piece of prime rib or a delightful hamburger with cheese and
ham, his world is never the same. However, since the beginning of the twentieth century, the
production of food has been supplemented by science. This has triggered an angry dispute between the
people who support the advances of biotechnology and people who love nature. In order to understand
the controversy, we have to know the meaning of genetically modified foods. With new technological
advances, scientists can modify seeds from a conventional seed to a high tech seed with shorter
maturation times and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key is in the production. The growth of GM crops is faster than the conventional seeds. For that
reason, farmers can produce more and more. These seeds are resistant to cold and hot weather and
have more chances to resist dryness than the others. Also, these crops are herbicide resistant; that
means that farmers can spray with herbicide and defeat the weeds without altering the crop. For that
reason, a lot of money is saved by the reduced use of pesticides, and the cost of production is
benefited. Almost 8.25 millions farmers all over the world planted genetically modified seeds in 2004,
compared to 7 million in 2003, said the international Service for the Acquisition of Agri biotech
Applications (ISAAA)( Biotech 1).
In addition to the strong production, as John B. Alfred, a professor in the department of food science
and technology at Ohio State University, said, These foods are as safe and nutritious as their
conventional counterparts (Alfred 1). These GM plants are modified to produce proteins that plants
would not produce by natural means. They grow up with built in Vitamin A that prevents blindness in
people who have Vitamin A deficiency. Scientists have also created GM potatoes which absorb less oil
when fried. That means less fat in the potato, converting popular french fries from junk food to
nutritious and healthy food. Scientists have also developed an apple with a built in vaccine which
prevents childhood pneumonia ( GM Food 1). These are only

Should we make drones illegal?
Whether you have seen them or not, drones are becoming very popular. They are becoming so popular
that over 1 million drones were sold this last Christmas, but are these drones causing problems in
society, and if so should they become illegal? For most drones do cause problems in society. According
to the Consumer Technology Association, the issue is becoming more and more urgent as an estimated
700,000 drones were sold last year. A man named William Meredith saw a drone flying over his land,
so he did what he thought was right and shot the drone with a shotgun. Situations like this are why we

This means is that drones are capable of doing a lot of things and we need to make a decision on what
we are going to do so they are not harming anyone, or anything. Additionally, the Secret Service
officials said,There is a potential that these devices, which can be purchased cheaply and easily, could
be modified to carry explosives or weapons. This means is that the Secret Service knows that drones
are starting to be used for terrorism and needs to be stopped.Lastly, Larger models that can carry
payloads of up to 30 pounds are available on the market and are expected to become more common. In
other words drones are becoming capable of holding 30 pounds, and that 30 pounds could be
explosives or anything else that is harmful. All in all,It is clear to see that It is absolutely critical that
drones become illegal because drones are being used for terrorism.
In conclusion, Even if opponents argue that drones are a great piece of technology that can make
everyday tasks easier, It is obvious that, drones just have way too many issues. It is extremely important
that drones become illegal because they are being used for terrorism, they are trespassing on people s
property, and are violating other people s privacy rights. Then maybe oneday, if drones are illegal we

  • 2. Samuel Mongeau Eel Lecture Summary Guest Lecture Analysis: Eels by Samuel Mongeau Samuel Mongeau s informative lecture about eels covered topics of the benefits and usage of eels in Canadian society during the 16th century. Furthermore, Mongeau presents his lecture with a personal but wide viewpoint on the significance of eels to Canadian history. To begin, Mongeau acknowledges the limited research on eels as they are simultaneously dying rapidly, with a 97% decline in the eel population since 1980. However, in the 16th century, there was an abundance of eels in which they served multiple purposes, yet historical documents failed to take note of these eels, for the primary focus was mainly on the fur trade. Nevertheless, eels served to be a main survival food for the Indigenous peoples. Eels were incredibly populous along the St. Lawrence river and they migrated seasonally during the winter months. This was optimal for survival purposes because eels are high in fat and they were not a scarce resource at the time. Additionally, the large population of eels helped to boost the national economy as it created an internal and external market in Canada. In turn, this promoted the development of social institutions as the growing economy could now afford to invest in such establishments. On the other hand, during the creation of New France 2.0, Canada s economy substituted fur and eel trades with cod fish for they were more profitable and valuable. This had progressed Canada into a more modern economy through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Pursuing A Career As A Soccer Player Everybody has asked, what is the most interesting job? What do you want to study? In these days, people are looking for a good job that can improve his/her future, but there some types of jobs that are not secure or do not offer too many opportunities. Therefore, people need to be careful about what they want to study. There are three types of jobs I would like to work: Soccer coach, business administration, and doctor. One of the three jobs I would like to work is soccer coach. I chose this because I love soccer. To be honest, since I was a child, I have wanted to be a soccer player. I had that dream on my mind, but unfortunately, I had a serious injury in my knee and I could not play anymore. The reason why I want to be a soccer coach is because I want to be involved in the soccer world, even if I have an injury in my knee. I want to create new professional soccer players. I just want to teach people who love soccer how to play. Soccer is the most popular sport around the world, especially in Latin America and Europe and it is one of the few sports in which you can use your whole body: feet, arms, hands, chest, shoulders, and even your back. To be a soccer coach you need to be a boss, a father, you have to know hot treat your team and give them good advice, you need to have leadership, and you have to have sufficient knowledge about the sport. Before being a coach, you have to do a special course. After that you get an authorized license. In the United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Examples Of Ambiguity In Catullus V Ambiguity and Paradoxes Ambiguity can be defined as a word, phrase, or statement which contains more than one meaning. Ambiguity leads to vagueness and confusion which creates alternative reactions and understanding of the same work. Catullus uses ambiguity to create a sensation that one situation is taking place even when reading the verse form in context or merely studying the poem in its entirety the work takes on a whole new significance. The poem opens with depictions of beauty imaginary of the Argo s first voyage alluding that poem may be about the myth of Jason and Medea. Later in line 19 though we see the real subject of the poem is Peleus and Thetis, how they fell in love and their marriage, however, things take a dramatic turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this is the tapestry Ariadne appears on. Catullus does not state its source and origin nor its purpose. Yet, more than half of the poem is narrated through the tapestry. We are to believe what it sees, hears and says but we only have one side, and see a forgetful Theseus whose promises are fitting to write on the wind. Paradoxically, however, what Ariadne sees also alludes to, and so makes us see, a different picture: a Theseus who could have been made forgetful to serve the purposes of Bacch. In poem 85 as discussed above, Catullus also makes use of paradoxes stating I love and I hate. In 68a Catullus states that he being overcome by grief due to his brother s death is unable to write. Then in 68b although he is still experiencing the same pain to which he refers in 68a and in which Catullus repeats almost exactly what he said in 68a, Catullus states that he cannot stop himself from writing. He captures two entirely different experiences: first, his inability to write poetry in 68a, due to his brother death, and second, his inability not to write poetry, despite his brother s ... Maycomb would become more advanced and modern, but the views of the people she loved and grew up with, never would. Until comparatively recently in its history, Maycomb County was so cut off from the rest of the nation that some of its citizens, unaware of the South s political predilections over the past ninety years, still voted Republican. Scout doesn t like the way things are and it causes the reader to think and maybe even open one s eyes to see if something like that is going on in the community. The main focus of this report is on how an increase in the demand for museum tickets will boost the economy of Romania, by allowing people to visit museums for free. Throughout the report, other examples of other countries such as the United Kingdom and Sweden will be used in order to explain how free admission to museums will have a positive impact on Romania as well. Economic functioning of the museum market, museum visitor statistics and demographic pattern for museum visits A very important factor in the market is the price mechanism: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The museum tickets demand for people from lower socio economic groups is elastic, because demand for merit/luxury goods is directly related to their income. People from higher class groups can afford merit goods and thus museum visits due to their increased income. Their demand for museum tickets is inelastic. For them, museums would be normal goods instead of luxury ones, as for them it would not be an effort to purchase museum tickets. Cross price elasticity of demand is the responsiveness of demand for one good to a change in the price of another (Sloman and Jones 53): Substitute goods, or a pair of goods which are considered by consumers to be alternatives to each other. As the price of one goes up, the demand for the other rises (Sloman and Jones 35). For example, if the price of museum tickets goes up, people would find easier to choose substitute goods such as amusement parks, cinemas or theatres. Complementary goods, or a pair of goods consumed together. As the price of one goes up, the demand for both goods will fall. (Sloman and Jones 35) If the price of museum tickets would be lowered, or if the free admission scheme is implemented, then people would very likely go to museums and buy goods that go well with their museum visits, such as personalised post cards, souvenirs, posters, books etc. However, if the price of museum tickets rises, then demand for complementary goods decreases. • 15. Review of movie Stand By Me Essay Review of movie Stand By Me Stand By Me is a movie based on a novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of four preteens, who during a boring summer day, embark on a journey to find the body of a dead twelve year old, who has been missing by news accounts, but known to them, to be lying in the woods near a river bank. The story is told as an historical narrative about the lives and relationships of the four main characters in this movie, Gordy, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. He comes from what Gordy describes as a ?bad family?, and believes himself to be bad too. His self fulfilling prophecy would be to turn out as bad as everyone in town believes that he will. Gordy sees the good in him, and pushes him to be more than Chris perceives he is capable of being. Chris is the group leader. The others in the group value his opinion, and he is the protector. He sticks up for the rest of the boys, and they look up to him. One example of this is when Ace, an older, bullying local, steals Gordy?s hat. He verbally attacks the older bully, on behalf of Gordy. His presenting self is confident, independent, and tough. Inwardly, or his perceived self, is incapable, and destined to become nothing, primarily caused by the locals, and his family continually reminding him that he comes from a family of trouble, so he must trouble too. Teddy DuChamp can best be described as an antagonist. His father abused him, and was eventually put into an asylum, this leaving Teddy with a stigma of being the son of a ?looney?. This brought about his self fulfilling prophecy of craziness. He has a problem with self control, to the point where it could cause him serious harm. One example of this is when he begins arguing with the keeper of a junkyard, and instead of backing down during the altercation, he continues to fight, without realizing that he could be endangering himself. Even though these restrictions have been applied to the field, many incidents have occurred where workers have had insufficient PPE resulting in potentially avoidable fatalities. PPE enforcement is a significant part of a supervisor s role at construction sites, however due to other responsibilities and tight work schedules supervisors are not capable of monitoring each and every worker on the site at all times. At a density of 1.5g/mL and a molar mass of 157g/mol, the moles of bromobenzene used can be calculated to be [pic].2 Since bromobenzene is assumed to be limiting and all reactions occur in a 1:1 ratio, the expected yield is also [pic]. Thus the percent yield is calculated to be [pic] This result will be discarded because it defies logic. The experimental melting point was measured to be between 122.3oC and 132.1oC for an average of 127.2oC. The literature melting point is from 160 163oC for an average of 162oC. An IR spectrum of the triphenylmethanol product has been attached separately as Figure 4. Discussion: The mechanism by which trimethylphenol is formed is a carbonyl addition mechanism. The overall reaction is summarized in Figure 3. The carbonyl carbon on the benzphenon is weakly electrophilic and is attacked by carbanionic carbon of the Grignard reagent, phenylmagnesium bromide. This attack causes the carbonyl oxygen to assume a 1 charge as a sp3 bonded oxygen. The magnesium from the Grignard reagent then forms a complex with the oxygen and a mild acidic workup is added to protonate the oxygen to release it from the magnesium complex. The percent yield of the trimethylphenol product was rather low at 10%. However, due to the humid conditions during the day of the experiment, this low yield was to be expected. Grignard reagents react quickly with water as bases, forming OH ions. Since the Grignard reagent

Gay moved to London with no expectation of writing a satirical musical. Coming from no money, no title, and no useful contacts he tried to find his own destiny. Considering how plentiful the figurines are, historians can infer that women were most likely worshipped. Women in the Catalhuyuk civilization could have been worshipped for many reasons. They were capable of pregnancy which people may have thought connected them to the earth. If they had a direct connection to the earth, they were goddesses or special beings which would have be celebrated and praised.
