Al-Shabaab Terrorist Group
Introduction:
Al Shabaab as a terrorist group poses a significant threat in Somalia and in the global community.
This paper will start by discussing the background. In this part the paper will show how the group
has evolved from Al Ittihad Al Islam (AIAI) to the Islamic Court Union (ICU) and lastly to Al
Shabaab. Before discussing the group s threat of national security, homeland and international, this
paper will provide the conceptual meaning of key terminology, such as national security, homeland
security, international security and globalization. It is important to understand these concepts
before moving toward the main argument of the paper. After providing the framework for key
concepts, the paper will discuss the group s threat to Somalia in two areas, national security and
homeland security. The paper will go further and identify the threats posed by the group on other
nations homeland security and international security. We will use East African countries and the
United States examples. The paper will provide evidence to support how globalization has shaped
and fueled the threats from Al Shabaab. It will then discuss the primary response from the United
States and from African countries through AMISOM. The paper will provide the way forward and
suggestions for the response of the international community to Al Shabaab. In conclusion, we will
try to alert the international community that although the group has been experience hard times in
Somalia, it is unwise to

Essay on Fraud, Waste and Abuse Research Project
Fraud, Waste and Abuse Research Project
Combating fraud in the private sector is a difficult task. Trying to combat fraud in the public sector
is daunting. In 1999 15.7% of the American workforce were employed by a government entity
(federal, state, and local).[1] Mirroring society, government will have its share of perpetrators. The
difference from the private sector is in the scope of the fraud committed, the loss of the public trust,
the blaring headlines from news media, and difficulty in making necessary changes to combat the
problems.
A good definition of Fraud, Wasteand Abuse (FWA) can be found in U.S. Air Force Regulations
and can be applied to any government (or private) organization, it states:
Fraud Any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone has seen news headlines when someone is caught in a multi million dollar scam. The
public takes note when the government spends $400 on a single hammer or $660 on a toilet
seat.[4] But what about Joe M. Ployee who takes a few pens or pencils or other office supplies
home from his job at the Department of Labor? Or the city engineer who runs personal errand in
his government vehicle during work hours? It is possible that these employees didn t know they
were committing FWA. Education about these transgressions must be an essential part of any
training for public employees, elected, appointed or hired.
Waste
All organizations strive to streamline operations, which in turn should lead to saving money.
Fighting the wasting of resources should be a top priority for any government entity and
particularly for supervisors, managers, and executives. In the public sector this is particularly true
because the citizens in effect supply the resources wasted. The public trust should not be abused by
careless or needless spending. However, because of the bureaucratic nature of any government
agency, some waste cannot readily be avoided. The laws and regulations that have been duly
enacted to secure justified expenditures in and of themselves can cause waste.
Several examples of waste can be found at the

Number Of Basketball Players In Research
Division of Basketball Players
Children develop bad habits at a young age and continue these bad habits until they are corrected.
Sometimes these things aren t corrected until its almost too late. Habits can be picked up from
parents, grandparents, coaches, and peers. I know that the longer I am around someone the more I
act like that person. In any sport you will have many coaches and you will learn something you
didn t know with every coach you have. But some things aren t developed from others, some players
are born with these characters and help them become the type of player they are.
1.The Dramatic Player: The dramatic player overreacts about everything to draw attention to their
self so they can be the center of attention. For example, on my basketball team Susie is constantly
getting hurt. One day at practice she gently fell to the ground and instantly started acting like
she had fallen from a 10 story building. As a teammate of Susie I have learned that it is easier to
give her the attention as soon as she starts acting out. Another type of player is one that makes
everything said to them a big deal. Some players on the team cannot take criticism, or being told
what to do. Susie is this type of player also, and will turn a simple please look for me on the block
to throw me the darn ball next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Excuse maker: The excuse maker constantly has a rhyme or reason to why they did not do
something or to why they did do something. For example, Lilly on my basketball team will blame
her man scoring on someone else when clearly they scored because she wasn t playing any
defense. The most common excuse used in basketball is that wasn t my man when in reality nine
times out of ten it is the excuse makers man. These types of players would rather the team suffer
than put forth the effort to do what is asked of them. Like people say one bad apple will ruin the
whole bunch , I wouldn t say the excuse maker ruins the whole team but they do make it hard to

If you walk into a room only to be met with silent stares then there s a good chance they know
something you don t. If your friends seem to shy away from you, it probably means something s
up. Your company is going through a merger After a merger, it s not uncommon for a company
to lay off a few or sometimes massive amounts of employees. That s because mergers generally
take place for the purpose of joining two or more companies to achieve greater efficiencies of
scale and productivity. Back in 2005 when Procter Gamble announced that it would buy Gillette
for $57 billion, 6,000 people were slated to lose their jobs once the company joined. The reason
why, suggests Peter Cappelli, director of Wharton s Center for Human Resources, University of
Pennsylvania is because the investors focus on costs, which generally means cutting workers to
save money. So, if your hearing rumors about mergers, then sit down with your boss and have a
good heart to heart about your future with the company. Going through merger suggests it s time
to clean house, and that could mean dropping you from payroll. Your boss goes to your
subordinates for information You were once a go to person for your boss. But lately, all signs
point towards being left out of the loop. Most companies have a clear chain of command. When it

from you, then your position may soon

The Godfather Personal Beliefs
Modern and ambitious personal desires have become very distant from the old fashioned
preaching of family traditions. Because of the gap between the bases of personal desires and
family traditions, a person is left having to choose one and abandon the other. This is clearly
illustrated in The Godfather , directed by Francis Ford Coppola, by how Michael Corleone s
lifestyle completely changed when he switched from pursing his own goals to working in the family
business. Based on the ideas presented in The Godfather , it becomes clear that for an individual to
do something simply because their family wants them to can cause the person to have to throw their
dreams into the wind, reform their beliefs to better match with the beliefs of the

Essay On Fingerprint Finger
Creating Fake Fingers for Secure Biometric Fingerprint Authentication As the unrelenting demand
for smartphones continues to increase, many technology companies are looking for ways of
making such devices easier, faster, and more user friendly. Many smartphones are equipped with
fingerprint readers, allowing the user to access their phones securely and quickly without having
to type in their pin or passcode. This prevents users from having to remember dozens of random
passphrases that, in theory, a hacker could potentially guess and be granted access into. However,
this poses a serious question How secure is fingerprintauthenticationand why should consumers
trust that this technology will keep their information safe? Similarly,... Show more content on

Capacitive readers work by measuring the differences in capacitance between the ridges and
valleys to map out the fingerprint. Because of this, unlike the optical reader, there is no light
component necessary in order to read the fingerprint. Thus, the capacitive sensors can be much
smaller, and are commonly seen in smartphones, laptops, and tablets. In figure 1 below, the
difference between the fingerprints captured by the optical (left) and capacitive (right) readers
can be seen. Due to the smaller size of the capacitive reader, it captures a smaller area of the
fingerprint. Anil Jain and Joshua Engelsma of Michigan State University are creating life like
fake fingers, commonly referred to as spoofs. These pigmented, conductive silicon spoofs share
properties similar to human skin; their mechanical, optical, and electrical properties allow it to
act basically as a finger. With these spoofs, creators of fingerprint readers can use them for two
purposes: 1. remove the discrepancy between optical and capacitive readers and 2. enable
readers to detect for only real fingers to be granted access. The current problem with many of
these readers is that if it was recorded on one type of reader, and the user tried to authenticate with
a different type, it would fail. These spoofs will allow developers to test their systems, without
having to use their own fingers over and over again, while also ensuring consistency. In

Mural Art History
The history of Oregon portrays a picture that in general suggest the state has never been
particularly fond of minorities. During the formation of the state, African Americans were not
allowed within its borders. Out of all the states, Oregon was the only one who attempted to
enforce this policy. Today, racist attitudes and racial discrimination towards African Americans is
still a topic of concern. For example, black and Latinos are charged a higher rent and deposit by
landlords in some areas of Portland. Clearly, this issue stems from the discriminatory beliefs and
attitudes of the landlords who enforce these unjust disparities in cost.
Art gives voice to those that cannot speak and is a tool used to combat inequality. In particular,
visual art such as murals represents more than just art on a wall but rather the struggle for ... Show

This proposal is about the value and relevance of mural art to the African Americancommunity in
Portland, Oregon post civil rights era. Although it s possible to argue that visual art such as murals
are insignificant and provide little contribution to the African American community, nevertheless
mural art has an ability to inspire and provide hope because it is a celebration of history, and marks
the progress made by African Americans.
Some of the sources of information used to support the validity of the theme in this proposal
include journal articles, newspaper articles, and books. In Walls of Heritage, Walls of Pride: African
American Murals, by James Prigoff and Robin J. Dunitz. The author states that murals are a
celebration of skill, intelligence, ingenuity, imagination, and spirit that form an important thread in
Black America, inspiring and shaping a culture of hope (Coleman 10). African art is distinct in the
sense that hope is integrated through metaphors, in addition, the design and shape celebrate

Pycnopodia s Nervous System
Despite its apparent lack of a central coordinating nervous system (no brain), Pycnopodia has a
repertoire of sensory systems to locate and capture its prey. Its simple nervous system takes the
form of a central ring, with radial nerves extending into each of its rays. Each ray is covered with
thousands of tiny tubed feet that provide tactile information such as touch, temperature and body
position. At the end of each ray are specialized tube feet filled with sensory cells that detect
chemical cues and trigger sensations of taste and smell. Light sensory organs (red spots or eye
spots) at the tip of each ray detect light and dark (direction, presence of large objects).

A Research On Animal Farm
Animal Farm The term: Organic deduces via natural resource there s only so much organic matter,
because organic matter is determined what has decayed and at what amount for centuries. As our
populace grows, the right kind of organic matter diminishes, there lies the problem. Here s the
unsavoury verity. One of my bones of contention is that the consumer reads the organic term so
frequently that marketing has inadvertently diluted the organic term s validity. For a starter, soil
has to be fertile to grow produce apparently, fertile soil benefits from even greater quantities of
chemical fertilizer; of the premise, organic matter isn t available en mass, to facilitate our inflated
populace; hence, it s pure ignorance to systematically take the view organic produce hasn t been
treated and claim it has more superior qualities. Oh yes, the imperialist Supermarkets dictate the
tune to which our farmers grange dance to, due to authoritative policies ridding advertising
standard powers to watchdogs meaning the supermarkets are allowed to use every trick in the book
to capitalise on sales; affirmation, why the organic label is 100% marketing. Retailer s awareness is
vehemently tainted and totally imbalanced; their aim is to satisfy their shareholders first and

Victor Hugo s Accomplishments
Spanning from roughly 1750 to 1837, the Romantic period was an artistic and literary movement
that sought after and treasured creativity and emotion, a drastic variation from prior periods in
which logic and reason were valued (Wilhelm 669). Sometimes considered one of the greatest ages
in literature, poets during Romanticismwere greatly inspired and fascinated by nature, human
passions, quests, folk culture, the Middle Ages, physical sensations, mental states, and the
innocence of children (669). Romantic works capture whimsy and imagination through a use of the
five senses: touch, sight, smell, and sound (676). They view nature as lively and genuine and
express the belief that nature is best when left wild and untouched by man (678). Most... Show more

After years of traveling across Europe due to Joseph Hugo s military positions, Hugo s mother
grew tired of Joseph Hugo and left her husband, fleeing to Paris in 1803 (2). Because he lived in
a single parent home, much of Hugo s education was led by his mother, instilling in Hugo a
loyalty to king and faith that was represented in his early work, and the two were very close (2).
In fact, Hugo s mother helped motivate Hugo to pursue literary career despite studying law for
three years in the mid 1810s and supported him in the endeavor (A E Networks Television 1). His
mother would die in 1821, and, after her death, Hugo married Adele Foucher (Victor Hugo 2).
The two would have several children, of which one daughter would drown in a boating accident in
1833, two of their sons would die in the early 1870s, and another daughter would be committed
into an insane asylum during this same decade (6). Even after Hugo met Juliette Drouet, a woman
who would be his mistress until her death in 1883, the couple remained married until Adele s death

IN amp;#8216;MANSFIELD PARK amp;#8217;
Mansfield Park has sometimes been considered as atypical of Jane Austen as being solemn and
moralistic. Poor Fanny Price is brought up at Mansfield Park with her uncle and aunt. Where only
her cousin Edmund helps her with the difficulties she suffers from the rest of the family, and from
her own fearfulness and timidity. When the sophisticated Crawfords (Henry and Mary) visit the
Mansfield neighbourhood, the moral sense of each marriageable member of the Mansfield family
is tested in various ways, but Fanny emerges unscathed.

This may be moderated by the history of displacement Jane Austen has provided for Fanny: the
years of intimidation she has endured from Mrs Norris and her dependence on Edmund, whose
kindness comes with instructions for her of how she should behave.
Fanny has a disapproving attitude towards Mary. We are never sure whether this is due to Fanny
amp;#8217;s morals or her jealousy of the way Edmund is fixated with her.
As a result of Edmunds amp;#8217; coaching, Fanny amp;#8217;s moral attitudes in general are

Cuban Revolution Women
Throughout the Cuban Revolution women made significant strides towards gender equality. Pre
revolution Cuban women had been confined in constricting gender roles of Hispanic tradition.
Female group and activists began to take action in many non traditional activities. Women broke
tradition by leaving the home and joining in revolutionary movements. The struggle for women s
equality in Cuban society is referred to as Revolution within a Revolution due to the many
revolutionary changes for women that were brought about during the Cuban Revolution. Under
Cubas new government women attained their right to an education, the ability to have a job outside
of the home, child care was available, and women gained access to birth control.
The Cuban Revolution
The Cuban Revolution took place as a revolt to overthrow the Cuban Dictator Fulgencio Batista.
Fidel Castro s 26th of July Movement along with their allies lead the revolt beginning in 1953
against the right wing dictatorial government of Cuba. Batista first came to power when the
government of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes y Quesada was overthrown during the 1933 Revolt of
Sergeants. After, Batista made himself chief of the armed forces, ranked as a colonel. He
efficaciously took control of the five member pentarchy which functioned as the collective head of

Empirical Formula Lab Report
Empirical Formula and Percent Composition of Magnesium Oxide
Prediction
Magnesium oxide is an ionic compound (metal cation bonded to non metal anion); therefore, we
can determine its formula using the ionic charges of magnesium (Mg2+), and oxygen (O2 ). To
comply with the octet rule, the elements combine at a ratio of 1:1;as a result, the formula is MgO
(s) . We can theoretically predict the empirical formula, and the percent composition, through this
procedure:
1) Two moles of magnesiumcombines with two moles of oxygen.
2Mg(s) + O2 (g) 2MgO(s)
Mg= 2 moles
O = 2 moles
2) Divide both values by the smallest value and place the results in ratio form. In this case, the ratio
is simply 1:1.
3) This ratio represents the number of magnesium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This does not support my hypothesis, but there are possibilities why the experimental result did not
match the prediction:
There might have been unevaporated water left in the crucible, which would increase the weight of
the oxygen . For example, of the 0.06 grams of oxygen measured, 0.02 grams could have been
unevaporated water.
There might have been some unreacted magnesium. This could have happened if some
magnesium strips were covered by others, eliminating their exposure to air. Due to this, the mass
of oxygen increases since it is naturally diatomic and doubles up. For example, out of the 0.06
grams of magnesium, 0.02 grams might not have reacted. This unreacted metal allows an oxygen
(which would have otherwise been bonded to it) to double up with itself and increase the mass of
total oxygen.
Always, there could be mechanical error and human error. Since the crucible was an open system,
mass could have entered or left due to air currents, or vibrations. No matter how small, any
inaccuracy caused by these errors could have resulted in the higher measurement of oxygen
recorded in this

The Psychological Effect Of Philanthropy And Psychology
Just as philanthropy has great societal effects, it also has many psychological effects. When
people decide to donate, they are bestowing on themselves an innumerable number of intangible
costs, one of these costs is the psychological implication is giving. (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010).
Giving not only contributes to the way others see one but also to the way one sees himself, this
contributes to one s self image as an altruistic, empathetic, social responsible, agreeable, or
influential person (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). The first response one feels, however, is an
emotional response, this response makes one feel good and have a positive mood (Bekkers
Wiepking, 2010). The nearly automatic response can liberate one from feelings of guilt, which in
turn satisfies one s desire to show gratitude or morality (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010).
The first phenomenon that could be studied when linking together philanthropy and psychology, is
the do good, feel good phenomenon. Evidence suggests that helping others and helping behavior
has positive psychological effects on the helper or donor, this can be called, emphatic joy
(Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). Economic models of philanthropy suggest that this section of motives
is called warm glow or joy of giving (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). Neuropsychological studies show
that, donating to charity release neural activities in areas that are responsible for reward processing
in the brain. (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). In addition, the

Faustus Folly Analysis
I think that this play is an example of a damning folly. The reason behind that is that Faustus is
not a good guy. It is also a damned folly because he sold his soul to the Devil and that is not a

The film naturally has a lot of good music, and Joseph Trapanese has done a good job of mixing

ABSTRACT
The objective of this project is to design LCD digital oscilloscope for practical use. The basic
concept for the project involves reading the voltage signal at the input and displaying it on the
screen of an alphanumeric LCD. The input analog signals are supplied to the ADC(Analog to

As the name implies it uses analogue techniques throughout to create the pattern on the display.
Typically they use a cathode ray tube where the voltages on the x and y plats cause a dot on the
screen to move. In the horizontal direction this is controlled by the time base, whereas in the
vertical direction the deflection is proportional to the signal input. Essentially the signal is
amplified and applied to the Y plates of the cathode ray tube.
A cathode ray tube consists of a number of elements. There is an electron gun that generates an
electron beam that is fired along the length of the tube. This beam passes by deflection plates that
are used to deflect the beam, as a result of electrostatic attraction and repulsion, and finally the
beam hits a phosphor coating on the screen creating a small dot of light.
To assist in making the trace as clear as possible, intensity and focus controls are included. The
focus ensures that the dot that scans the screen remains as sharp as possible and in this way it can
deliver a clear trace. The intensity control is required because the intensity of the dot or trace
varies according to the speed at which the scan is made. Controlling the intensity enables a clear
trace to be obtained.
When the scan is very slow the dot is seen to traverse the screen and it is difficult to visualize the

What Was Life Like In The Tale Of Sinhue
The life of an Egyptian consist of numerous special qualities that makes them unique as a person. In
The Tale of Sinhue, Sinhue entails us of his return to Egypt and how he now feels civilized. During
the duration that Sinhue lived as an Asiatic, he was deprived of his Egyptian qualities such as
appearance, house, and burial. Sinhue states I became clean shaven, and my hair was combed. A
load was given back to the foreign country. This statement indicates that the life of an Asiatic
consists of looking unclean and not paying attention to material things. The Egyptianswere anointed
with fine oil and clean linen. Furthermore, Sinhue argues that living as Asiatic was a load that was
placed upon him and now he feels liberated from that load. The load metaphorically can be

The poem, God’s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins is an...
The poem, God s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins is an Italian sonnet, which closely follows
the traditional Italian rhyme of ABBAABBA, and then CDCDCD. (Shmoop) There are also several
words throughout the poem that rhyme within themselves. For example God, rod, trod, shod all
rhyme. Gerard Hopkins liked to use sprung rhythmin which the stressed and unstressed syllables
have a complicated relationship, and the message desired from the reader can change the rhythm.
(Shmoop) Sprung rhythm allows each person to read the poem differently and take away what
they wish. The speaker of this poem has lost faith in humanity and their treatment of the world
God had granted us. However, in the second half of the poem, the speaker shows his views of the
world and its connection to God.
In the first stanza of God s Grandeur, the speaker is amazed at the greatness of God. However, he
is dismayed by the way people treat God s creation. God himself directed humans to care for
their world. Genesis 2:15 says, The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden
to work it and take care of it. (Genesis) Mankind s treatment of the Earth obviously did not
measure up to the standard that the speaker has envisioned. This is clearly visible in lines four
through seven, Why do men then now not reck his rod? Generations have trod, have trod, have
trod; and all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil; and wears man s smudge and shares
man s smell. (God s) The

Cultural Shock in Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard Essay
Cultural Shock in Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard
Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard projects the cultural conflict of the turn of the twentieth
century of Russia. With a historical allusion, Chekhov exhibited the changing Russia with slice of
life in his play. The Cherry Orchard is not only a depiction of Russian life but also an
understatement of changing traditional value. Cultural conflict itself is an abstraction. To explain
it, it is the traditional culture that is unable to resist the invading one. In the play, each character has
his or her own personality, which symbolizes their individual social levels of Russian society. But
these characters distinguish themselves into two sides, which are conservators and investors; ...

groups in The Cherry Orchard. The first group is the characters that dominate money and power;
Ranevskaya and Lopahin are the kind of persons. The orchard, to them, is merely a tool for
investment. The second group is a sort of person to understand the change of situation but they

Pilot Plant Case Study
The U.S. Army facility in Aberdeen known as the Pilot Plant was responsible for endangering
the lives of employees and the surrounding community during the years of 1983 through 1986.
The chemicals used and stored were highly dangerous and lethal to humans. The chemicals were
improperly stored in incorrect locations with improper labels, and leaking barrels. After a roof
collapsed it took two weeks for the chemical spills to be properly dealt with. An acid spill
consisting of 200 gallons spilt into a local river and investigation reported improper storage and
containment equipment. The acts occurred violated the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act.
Three engineers were responsible for either overlooking or not caring as to how chemicals within
the facility were stored and maintained. The three engineers were Carl Gepp, William Dee, and

Men of any age may need to select the kind of baseball cleats they need. The selection for mens

First and foremost, a person will need to read the rules and regulations of whatever league they
are playing in to get an understanding of whether cleats are regulated. There are many leagues
that do not allow players to wear metal cleats, so if someone is playing in a league that has a rule

The Seventh Man Short Story
The improbable idea of guilt rushes through everyone at one time or another. We often find
ourselves forgiving people or placing blame on ourselves for inadequate reasons. In the story
The Seventh Man by Haruki Murakami, the Seventh Man s best friend K is swept away by a
tsunami. For years, The Seventh Man refuses to forgive himself for the incident. At a young age,
he inhabits the quality to run from fear. Moving to a new town and changing his life, the
Seventh Man doesn t learn to forgive himself till 40 years later when seeing K s paintings. He
returns home and becomes at peace with his loss. At the time of the accident, The Seventh Man
was dealing with countless emotions in a brief time period, furthermore it is irrational for him to
have been able to save K. The Seventh Man should forgive himself for his failed efforts to save his
childhood friend. Written in the story The Moral Logic of Survival Guiltby Nancy Sherman, she
explains the feeling of remorse soldiers experience in war when a fellow soldier dies and they
were unable to save them. She calls this survival guilt. Soldiers in war regularly wonder why they
get to live when others tragically died. They have trouble comprehending what made them lucky
enough to live when they consider themselves no more of a hero than the next guy? In the same

How The Tetrahydrocannabinol And Its Effect On Pilots
On the 7th of January 2012, a hot air balloon flying over Carterton New Zealand hit powerlines
whilst trying to land, it then caught fire and crashed just north of the town killing all 11
passengers. At first it was believed to be a general crash and the pilot made a mistake of trying
to fly over the powerlines instead of dropping below them. The Pilots body was analysed for any
odd signs, they found Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his system, meaning he was under the
influence of cannabis during the time of the crash which influenced him to make the decision
that caused the problem and took 11 lives. The day was normal, the 11 passengers (Ann Dean,
Desmond Dean, Valerie Bennett, Diana Cox, Howard Cox, Denise Dellabarca, Belinda Harter,
Stephen Hopkirk, Johannes Chrisjan Jordaan, Alexis Still and pilot Lance Hopping) were all on

Discussion:
Fisher stated that breast cancer is a systemic disease from the start and any change in local surgical
management will have no effect on overall survival and breast conservation is considered standard
treatment for malignant breast diseases [9, 10].
Dalberg has published the only comparative study between preservation and resection of pectoral

Shakespeare s Macbeth
Creating Sympathy for Macbeth
The dark aura surrounding Shakespeare s Macbeth is well deserved, as is the darkness shrouding
its title character. Although Macbeth is certainly a villainous, evil man based solely on his actions,
a fuller examination of his character s portrayal leads to a more sympathetic view of him. The play
does not portray Macbeth simply as a cold blooded murderer, but rather as a tortured soul attempting
to deal with the atrocities surrounding him.
Before any of the murderous activity occurs, Macbeth does not experience small, ambiguous
premonitions, he is directly told by mysterious, dark figures things that are ordained to happen.
Although these mysterious prophecies seem doubtful at first, ... Show more content on

Although it certainly does not excuse his actions, the fact that she planned the murders,
encouraged him to lie and deceive the other nobles at the banquets, basically convinced him to
carry the initial murder out, and repeatedly attempted to make him forget the act and move on,
would seem to partially incriminate her. If Macbeth had a wife who was a stark contrast to him,
one who abhorred murder and attempted to talk him out of it, then his crime would have seemed
all the more horrendous since even his closes confidant advised him against it. As it is, Lady
Macbeth s twisted cruelty and conniving serve to further a small sense of sympathy for the guilty
Macbeth.
An important aspect of Macbeth s portrayal is that he shows extreme remorse after the killing of
Duncan, and attempts to avoid killing Macduff due to the guilt he feels for all the other murders
he has committed. While his wife feels just a little water will cleanse them from the deed,
Macbeth s own answer to his question Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this / blood clean
from my hand? is a resounding no. Macbeth realizes the severity of his act and guilt, and this is
central in evoking a sense of sympathy from the audience. Macbeth knows that he has done wrong;
most can attempt to feel some sympathy or forgiveness for someone who knows they have done
wrong and suffers constantly for

use of Web services for various applications has led to the growth of web services on a large
scale. Due to the increase in usage of web services, it has become of prime importance to design
systems for effective web service recommendation. In our project, we propose a system for
effective web service recommendations incorporating users preferences regarding quality and
diversities amongst web services. Users requirements are considered and mined from his usage
history. Then we find functional similarities using clustering techniques followed by applying a
ranking algorithm to list top k services. To discover high quality Web services, a number of QoS
models for Web services and QoS driven service selection approaches have been proposed in the
service computing field. In this system user explicitly specifies his/her interests and QoS
requirements, and submits them to the service discovery system. Then the service discovery

Compare Pike And Hunting Snake
Pike and Hunting Snakes are unusual topics to be discussed with an approbational tone. They are
fierce and violent animals, but in the poems Pike written by Ted Hughes and Hunting Snake
written by Judith Wright, they are discussed with high regard and acclaim. Both poets observe the
beauty and allure of these animals who have killer instincts and an aggressive nature. In Hughes
poem Pike he uses paradox to highlight the pikes beauty and a sense of threat, in the introductory
four stanzas. He uses highly praising adjectives such as grandeur , gold , emerald and delicacy to

All this makes it easier for them to keep their costs down and scale to meet changing customer
demands, but it also makes it harder to assess the risk to your organization from using such a
service. Organizations potentially can gain a competitive or cost advantage through selective
adoption of cloud computing, but not without first taking a comprehensive look at the associated
risks, ensuring that they are consistent with business goals, along with the expectations of
regulators, auditors, shareholders and partners. It is especially challenging to understand the risks
associated with cloud computing, and CIOs, chief information security officers, compliance and
privacy officers, and line of business managers should be involved in the risk assessment of new
cloud based services. If a company is considering the use of an external service of any sort, then
it needs to: Assess the security, privacy and regulatory compliance risks Identify use cases that are

Why Was The Nep Unpopular With Communists
Explain why the NEP was unpopular with many communists in the 1920 s USSR.
The NEP, abbreviation for the New Economic Policy , was a number of policies deployed by
Vladimir Lenin to improve the conditions of post war USSR. The NEP replaced the system of War
Communism which was used between 1918 and 1921. The main motive for the War Communism
policy was to support and supply the Red Army with food and weapons during the Russian Civil
War. However, after the war the country was in turmoil and the majority of the Soviet Union s
population suffered hardship and poverty. This was when a quick solution was needed to revamp
the Russian economy and the NEP policies were the solution. The NEP was made to balance the

Other European countries used much more modernised equipments. However, the NEP does not
encourage this modernisation which could in fact dramatically improve the country s economy.
Grain export was the most important source for their agriculture yet the exports were three fourth
lower than it was a decade ago. This left the Russian economy to be far behind in modernisation
than any other European countries. Modernisation was pivotal as it can enhance a country s
strength in many ways. Most importantly, it would help support Russia s military at a time where
an invasion to any European country could be foreseen. The Communists were afraid of this, since
they were prone to any invasion with their weapons being out of date. The Communists felt they
should be a major industrialization powerhouse against other European rivals such as Germany
however the NEP would make the country even more vulnerable.
Moreover, peasant realised feeding themselves is more important than buying insignificant
consumer goods. So, they held grain for themselves and the grain export seems to have been
abandoned. A system scale of individual peasant farming under the NEP couldn t support plans for
industrialisation and the Communists were out of favour for this plan and so, the current NEP
policy needs to be replaced by a more vigorous and rapid one.
Developing the Russian economy would further be significant as there was an increase in
unemployment. The idleness was

Archetypal Hero Journey
The monumental piece of non fiction work titled The Hero with a Thousand Faces, first published
in 1949 by Joseph Campbell points out an apparent monomyth of the hero through superb use of
example and literary analysis. In this book Campbell presents three main phases of the archetypal
hero; The Departure, The Initiation, and The Return. Within these three main phases there exist
numerous sub phases that describe nearly all aspects of the heros journey and its impact upon the
entire monomyth. I have chosen to analyze the amazing journeys of the heroes Herakles, and
Odysseus. Herakles (whose name can be translated as Glory of Hera ) was a first generation

It is interesting to note that Herakles receives little to no supernatural aide in this story, contrary
to the monomyth perhaps identifying as one of the great gods of the time. The journey s road of
trials is very evident in this myth as Herakles must perform ten (actually twelve due to
stipulations by the king) labors in order to achieve forgiveness and ultimately become immortal.
Most heroes also experience a metaphysical death in which they have to cross into the realm of
the underworld and return with knowledge or an item. Herakles does this for his twelfth and final
labor, by traveling to the underworld in order to capture the guardian of the underworld, Cerberus,
and return him once the king saw that he had completed the task. The final act that Herakles does
that fits into the monomyth archetype of the hero is his act of becoming immortal. Upon his death
funeral pyre, when the flame is lit he is risen up to Olympus and is granted the gift of immortality.
This is significant for several reasons; firstly it shows that Hera in fact did embrace him at the end
of his journey by allowing him to have immortality. Also his immortality

The Effects Of Music On Children s Music
ESSAY SUPER FINAL:
Music is important to children. Some of them want to listen to it alone trough headphones, others
are wishing to sing, hum, whistle, or chant it. Some want to play musical instruments solo or with
friends. Others enjoy dancing to it. Some wish to create new music .
Whether listening, singing, playing, moving, or creating music, musical experiences are prominent
in the lives of children.
All children are musical. In different forms and degrees, children possess the capacity to become
musical than may currently demonstrate. They listen, sing, dance, play and express themselves
musically with little or no previous training.
Children are capable of careful and attentive listening, so they are able to perceive and understand
the musical language, they can create and recreate. Because most children most children possess
the physical capability to hear sounds, they can be led to listening intelligently to the manner in
which these sounds are organized as a music.
Children can response to music through movement in controlled and expressive way. To follow of
the musical pulse is one of the initial milestones in movement development. This skill is directly
related to attentive listening.
Musical performance on an instrument is more sophisticated musical activity. All children who are
good listeners, and who have the interest and discipline to take daily time to build both physical
and musical skills, will make good players.

Magic follows certain rules in The Name of the Wind. The University is where you go to learn
magic, Sympathy, Artificery, Alchemy and Naming (my favorite). You work your way up; E lir,
Re ar, El the and Arcanist. In Sympathy the user needs to create a sympathetic link but the link
needs energy. It s like energy manipulation, the sympathist s body or an energy source. Artificery is
like creating things such as tough glass, salt pumps or sympathy lamps which involve using
Sympathy. Alchemy is like taking something ordinary and turning it astonishing. Primarily you re
taught the principles and use of alchemy, basically label clearly. Measure twice. Eat elsewhere.
Master Mandrag. (The Name of the Wind ) Naming, probably one of the most exciting magic s
taught at the University. Naming is being able to know what created and made that subject, its true
name. You have the waking mindand the sleeping mind in the sleeping mind is where you can find
the true name. When Kvothe first called the name of the wind, he was left with a storm in his head.
Aerlevsedi, he said. Say it. What? Simmon said somewhere in the distant background. Wind? (The

Unlike Tolkien s and Martin s book, Rothfuss gives magic a more significant quantity to the plot.
Without the lessons from Abenthy, Kvothe s journey would be more farfetched and possible
never happened. Kvothe could possibly still live in the streets of Tarbean. Tolkien has a god to
create magical beings to help protect the world; Gandalf who is an Istari. Bran told Maester
Luwin that he wanted to learn magic. Bran, no man can teach you magic. (A Game of Thrones

is learned. The author s each give a different spin on the magical elements. In some worlds magic is

Congenital Erythropoietic Porphyria
In the world of medical science, there are gray areas that blur subtly into the world of fiction.
When medical anomalies came up throughout history, the world had come to its own conclusions
about what was wrong before medical science could determine the true causes. This, in turn, has
led to some interesting connections between fictional ideas and medical cases that are very real.
One of these such disorders is called porphyria, and it heavily influenced the way vampires were
perceived in both literature and early movies. Porphyria, specifically Congenital Erythropoietic
Porphyria, is a rare hereditary blood disorder. The likelihood that this disorder will be present is
less than one in a million, yet more common in relatively isolated populations.... Show more content

They represent the human desire for longevity and immortality, and even in fiction they remain a
curiosity to medical science everywhere (Hallab 168). Although the sufferers of congenital
erythropoietic porphyria are certainly not immortal, they have had a drastic impact on the idea
and manifestation of vampires themselves. The sensitivity and erratic behavior around sunlight,
the pale skin tone due to anemia, and the occasional desire for blood are all present side effects
of both sufferers of porphyria and classic vampires. Both in literature and in early films starring
vampires, the audience is captured by the exacerbated ailments that affect the vampire, such as
turning to dust upon entering sunlight, and flesh literally searing at the touch of garlic. These
dramatizations taken on by Dracula were not just borrowed from porphyria, however. Sightings
of actual vampires were seen throughout the 1700 s in places like Transylvania, where the
concentration of those suffering from porphyria was already higher than anywhere else (Hallab
169). Upon the seizing and murder of these apparent vampires, doctors swore that they were
dealing with a vampire. Further, the sufferers of porphyria who began to experience symptoms
could have easily mistaken a blister or lesion for a vampire bite. The vampires in literature and
movies, therefore, had not only been given the symptoms of porphyria, but they were truly a
dramatic portrayal of someone suffering from porphyria, specifically congenital erythropoietic

The Effect Of Aggregate Demand On The Economy
As supported by the minutes released from the November meeting of the Federal Open market
Committee, the economy continues to strengthen and looks as though it will remain healthy
through the foreseeable future. The economy has returned to normalcy in terms of Consumer Price
since the hurricanes hit Florida and Texas, as evidenced by the Consumer Price Index for All
Urban Consumers: Gasoline(all types) which is portrayed in the graph below. The FOMC has also
reported that inflationis projected to remain below the two percent for at least the next two quarters.
The the inflation rate is expected to increase to two percent by the medium term which will
stabilize it at the Fed s target goal. This growth in the inflation rate is demonstrated... Show more

The concern with the current slow growth of the Fed Funds Rate is that there is a similar pattern
as there was prior to the decline in 2008, where inflation tanked and the Fed Funds Rate, which
was high at 4.24% was not enough to halt the inflation drop. The similar pattern in inflation and the
Fed Funds Rate can be seen in the two graphs below. If the Federal Open Market Committee does
not increase the rate of the growing Fed Funds Rate within the next few quarters the likeliness of
another recession increases. Although it would not be as extensively damaging as the recession in
2008, a recession would be nonetheless detrimental to the economy, as we would be set back in all
the economical progress that has been made in the past 10 years, as shown in the graphs above.
Currently, the Federal Reserve has set the rate to rest at a target range of 1 to 1 1/4 percent. The
Federal Open Market Committee acknowledged in their November meeting that inflation has more
headway to make until it is at the two percent mark they have set as a long term target. This
situation contains both positive and negative elements. A low inflation rate benefits consumer
confidence, because consumers are easily able to manage the gradual inflation and do not see
change reflected in day to day consumption since inflation rises slowly. However, with a low
Federal Funds Rate, and the potential for inflation to decline for any

Don John Character Analysis
When thinking about the well known comedy Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare
the audience is quick to focus on the wit and comedy that the play has to offer, rather than the
understated villain who easily disappears in the background. While reading the play, one can posit
that Don John is not the typical villain who acts with a specific motive in mind, rather, he is acting
out of an obligation he feels to serve as an antagonist considering his position as a bastard. This is
demonstrated in his dialogue, which reveals his inner turmoil on being chained to the villainous
role and his willingness to act on any malicious opportunity that presents itself to him. This is
significant in that, it provides another layer to our villain and causes the audienceto think beyond
the first layer that is easily presented, and into the true inner motives of the character.
Don John claims that the resentment people have towards him is rooted in the fact that he is a
bastard and any friendly intentions towards him are fraudulent ones. From the beginning of the play
Don John does not come across as a friendly figure, especially compared to the rest of the soldiers
that come with the party to Messina in a flourish of good and excitement. As Leonato welcomes the
party he seems to implicate that he is extending the welcome on to Don John, because of his
relationship with Don Pedro, the prince and his brother. Don John remarks in a conversation, ...it

The Charge of the Light Brigade by Tennyson Essay
The Charge of the Light Brigade by Tennyson The charge of the light brigade by Tennyson was
written about a disastrous military escapade during the Crimean war.
The Crimean war was fought between Russia on one hand and Britain, France and Turkey on the
other. The charge of the light brigade occurred in November 1854 at Balaclava in the Crimea. The
Earl of Cardigan led the charge, and some six hundred cavalrymen took part in it. The brave 600
rode straight down a valley that was fortified at its end by many cannon served by Russian and
Cossack gunners. The heroes were following confused orders from ... Show more content on

The emphasis is not on the individual, but rather on the brigade as a whole, and their collective
heroism and sacrifice for their country.
Direct speech is used Forward the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns! To create a sense of
immediacy, to allow you to picture what was actually happening. Exclamatory statements are used
to put emphasis on the ideas of excitement and their collective power.
The instructions given seem incredibly stupid, Charge for the guns! He said; Because it is
obvious to the reader that there is no way that a brigade of horseback soldiers will be able to
compete when faced with cannons. These instructions seem completely irrational, with the results
only able to be horrific losses to the Light Brigade. The semi colon at the end of the line is there to
allow the reader a pause to take in this shocking instruction.
Verse two begins by repeating the instruction to go forth into the valley. It is followed by the
rhetorical question Was there a man dismay d?
The command is described only as a blunder , as though it isn t that big a mistake. Tennyson doesn
t use a very explicit word in his criticism, very possibly because as poet laureate it was part of his
job to show the establishment in the best possible light, irrelevant to the situation.

Obsession In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Obsessions Come Alive It s ALIVE! This is what one may think of when hearing the name
Frankenstein. Along with this exclamation, one may think of Frankenstein as a grotesque, green
hued creature created by a scientist. Society often thinks of the character Frankenstein as the
monster in a horror story. However, this common thought is completely false. Frankensteinis
actually the main character who creates the monster in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. Regardless of
the novelFrankenstein s misconceptions, a multitude of people from all corners of the globe
recognize the name of Shelley s famous book. The novel is used in countless classrooms to teach
about the various themes the book contains. One of those themes is obsession and how it... Show

Victor s obsession caused negative physical effects that could not be cured upon completing the
monster. This proves that obsession s effects are negative as well as long lasting.
Another example of negative physical effects due to obsession from Shelley s novel is the illness
that falls upon Victor after completing his work on the monster. When Victor realizes the
horrible thing he has created, he says, But I was in reality very ill, and surely nothing but the
unbounded and unremitting attentions of my friend could have restored me to life. The form
of the monster on whom I had bestowed existence was forever before my eyes, and I raved
incessantly concerning him (46). Clearly, Victor is physically ill because he is consumed by a
fever due to the monster. Completing the creation did not cure Victor s physical illness, however,
it did seem to worsen it. Victor will not be able to ever fully forget the horrible thing he has done
or the illness that was caused by it. This leads one to infer that Shelley is revealing that the
obsession that Victor has with his creation has physically made Victor sick and made him into a
different person, completely transforming his character. It is clear that passion for something, even
with good intentions, can be a bad thing because it can have negative physical effects and cause
one s persona to change.

How Does John T. Edge Use Of Ethos In Open House
Was blind but now I see: In the 1980s some were careless to the acts of racism around them. John
T. Edge was one of them. In his essay Open House he admits to turning a deaf ear to a racist
rumor. The rumor was accusing the husband of Blanche Guest, owner of Blanche s Open House,
of being in a Klan. Through later events he decides to investigate this rumor. Edge discovers that
the rumor was not only true but also learns history on the town he calls home. Although the author
uses logos to make him seem credible his use of ethos makes the audience question his values. In
Open House edge uses many strong sources to make himself seem credible. He informs us about

Jackie Robinson Turning Point Analysis
1. How do turning points impact a person s life, family, and country? A turning point can be
described as a life changing event that can have a negative or positive outcome on a person. In
the autobiography, I Never Had It Made , by Jackie Robinson, the memoir, Warriors Don t Cry ,
By Melba Pattillo Beals, and the article, The Father of Chinese Aviation by Rebecca Maksel each
of the individuals faced turning points. Jackie Robinson, Melba Pattillo Beals, and Feng Ru all faced
life changing experiences that changed both their lives and their countries.
2. Jackie Robinson s life changed when he became the first black man to play in the world series
and Major League Baseball (MLB) during a time of segregation in America. These life changing
events challenged him because he had to face racially tense crowds and endured threats from
teammates, opponents, and bigoted fans. For example in paragraph three, the text states, Some
of my own teammates refused to accept me because I was black. This quote explains a negative
portraying event that comes upon Jackie Robinson. Also in paragraph three the text states,
There were threats against me and my family and even out and out attempts and physical harm
to me. This explains how Jackie felt uneasy about how the whites were trying to put Jackie
down. Despite the racism he faced, Robinson learned to have pride in his accomplishments and
appreciate the courage, support, and love shown by his supporters. For example, in paragraph
eleven, the text states, I don t think I ll ever forget that small, shrill voice of a tiny white kid, in
the midst of a racially tense atmosphere during an early game in a Dixie town, cried out, Attaboy,
Jackie. This explains how because of one his supporters was cheering him on he felt he had to
succeed even if most people wouldn t accept him. Jackie s challenges made him a popular name to
remember in the Major Leagues today.
3. Melba Pattillo Beals life changed when she integrated an all white high school. The events
challenged Beals because she faced racism and because of this she built up confidence and
character. In paragraph thirteen the text states, Some of the white people looked totally horrified
while others raised their fists

Essay On Junot Diaz
Junot Diaz has had profound success in his writing as he is able to incorporate personal
experiences through a stylistic writing pattern in which he conveys the struggles and upheavals in
the lives of his characters. Although these aspects of his writing have led to his prosperity as a
writer, the novels and short stories he produces are not suitable for young adults and children
because of controversial remarks present in his writing. Overall, Junot Diaz s vulgarity and
derogatory comments towards women and racial classes, in addition to the unexplained and unclear
wording in his novels, are clear examples for why his literature should not be incorporated in the
high schoolcurriculum, despite his direct and rhythmic writing style. Junot... Show more content on

Throughout his writing, he degrades women and immigrants escaping the tyrannous regime in the
Dominican Republic. Fremio Sepulveda, a literary critic, works to analyze Junot Diaz s novel
from an immigrant perspective as he analyzes The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao in terms
of its racial and gender stereotypes. According to Sepulveda, Diaz incorporates a male narrator
who, degrades women to foreground his own masculine identity showing how Diaz s writing
style can challenge many of his readers. For example in the novel, Diaz writes, [he] was actually
partying with Johnny Abbes sucking whiskey out of the navels of underage (expletive)
(Diaz.122). This quote shows how Diaz incorporates inappropriate wording and references to
develop his storyline making the book unsuitable for high school students. Although Diaz may
be incorporating this style to develop the plot of the story, it would be illogical to implement it
in a school curriculum due to its controversial nature. Also, Carlin Romano, writer of The Brief
Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao: It s Hard Going, But Stay With It, criticizes much of Diaz s book
for his irritating prose, badly written passages, as well as a hodgepodge of repetitive riffs on
teenage sexuality, which goes to show how much of an impact Diaz can have on high school
students reading his book and the teachers teaching the book as well. Although some teenagers may
be able to handle the suggestive nature of Diaz s writing, many teenagers would find the
explanation of certain details and descriptions to be uncomfortable and gorey. Those teenagers that
are able to read through the book may find themselves unsettled at the end, despite the fact that they
are able to get through the harsh discrimination and unsettling topics like racial and gender bigotry.
The tendentious topics Diaz chooses to bring up can have a

Diesel Powered Vehicles
Initial purchasing costs of gas over diesel powered vehicles is usually a large factor that consumers
take into account when purchasing a vehicle. Research has shown that on average, a diesel version
versus gasoline version of the same vehicle, is $5,045 more than the gasoline version. (Vincentric,
2012) Consumers buying on a budget have to take these factors into consideration, which generally
means that in more consumer oriented cars and SUVs, the gasolineversion sells much better than the
diesel. Common reasons for this is that usually consumers associate diesel engines with the loud,
smoke blowing pickup trucks that smoke out an entire intersection. So people in the market for a
vehicle that haven t done their homework on the diesel powered version are more than likely to
pick the gasoline version.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now while diesel prices have averaged 14 percent more per gallon than gasoline over that last
decade (Staff @ WorkTruckOnline, 2011), there is an equalizer in this whole situation. The
diesel s fuel economy advantage over the gasoline powered version actually balances out the cost
of the two fuels with each s relative fuel economy. A diesel vehicle emits more greenhouse gas
emissions when burnt than gasoline, but its higher energy content per gallon results in higher fuel
efficiency for the vehicle. So, as a result, the diesel can go further on a single gallon than a
gasoline truck, meaning it produces very similar greenhouse gas emissions as the gasoline
powered engine, while running nearly the same cost for fuel per mile as a gasoline powered

  • 2. Al-Shabaab Terrorist Group Introduction: Al Shabaab as a terrorist group poses a significant threat in Somalia and in the global community. This paper will start by discussing the background. In this part the paper will show how the group has evolved from Al Ittihad Al Islam (AIAI) to the Islamic Court Union (ICU) and lastly to Al Shabaab. Before discussing the group s threat of national security, homeland and international, this paper will provide the conceptual meaning of key terminology, such as national security, homeland security, international security and globalization. It is important to understand these concepts before moving toward the main argument of the paper. After providing the framework for key concepts, the paper will discuss the group s threat to Somalia in two areas, national security and homeland security. The paper will go further and identify the threats posed by the group on other nations homeland security and international security. We will use East African countries and the United States examples. • 3. Essay on Fraud, Waste and Abuse Research Project Fraud, Waste and Abuse Research Project Combating fraud in the private sector is a difficult task. Trying to combat fraud in the public sector is daunting. In 1999 15.7% of the American workforce were employed by a government entity (federal, state, and local).[1] Mirroring society, government will have its share of perpetrators. The difference from the private sector is in the scope of the fraud committed, the loss of the public trust, the blaring headlines from news media, and difficulty in making necessary changes to combat the problems. A good definition of Fraud, Wasteand Abuse (FWA) can be found in U.S. Air Force Regulations and can be applied to any government (or private) organization, it states: Fraud Any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone has seen news headlines when someone is caught in a multi million dollar scam. The public takes note when the government spends $400 on a single hammer or $660 on a toilet seat.[4] But what about Joe M. Ployee who takes a few pens or pencils or other office supplies home from his job at the Department of Labor? Or the city engineer who runs personal errand in his government vehicle during work hours? It is possible that these employees didn t know they were committing FWA. Education about these transgressions must be an essential part of any training for public employees, elected, appointed or hired. Waste All organizations strive to streamline operations, which in turn should lead to saving money. Fighting the wasting of resources should be a top priority for any government entity and particularly for supervisors, managers, and executives. In the public sector this is particularly true because the citizens in effect supply the resources wasted. The public trust should not be abused by careless or needless spending. However, because of the bureaucratic nature of any government agency, some waste cannot readily be avoided. The laws and regulations that have been duly enacted to secure justified expenditures in and of themselves can cause waste. Several examples of waste can be found at the ... • 4. Number Of Basketball Players In Research Division of Basketball Players Children develop bad habits at a young age and continue these bad habits until they are corrected. Sometimes these things aren t corrected until its almost too late. Habits can be picked up from parents, grandparents, coaches, and peers. I know that the longer I am around someone the more I act like that person. In any sport you will have many coaches and you will learn something you didn t know with every coach you have. But some things aren t developed from others, some players are born with these characters and help them become the type of player they are. 1.The Dramatic Player: The dramatic player overreacts about everything to draw attention to their self so they can be the center of attention. For example, on my basketball team Susie is constantly getting hurt. One day at practice she gently fell to the ground and instantly started acting like she had fallen from a 10 story building. As a teammate of Susie I have learned that it is easier to give her the attention as soon as she starts acting out. Another type of player is one that makes everything said to them a big deal. Some players on the team cannot take criticism, or being told what to do. Susie is this type of player also, and will turn a simple please look for me on the block to throw me the darn ball next ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Excuse maker: The excuse maker constantly has a rhyme or reason to why they did not do something or to why they did do something. For example, Lilly on my basketball team will blame her man scoring on someone else when clearly they scored because she wasn t playing any defense. The most common excuse used in basketball is that wasn t my man when in reality nine times out of ten it is the excuse makers man. These types of players would rather the team suffer than put forth the effort to do what is asked of them. Like people say one bad apple will ruin the whole bunch , I wouldn t say the excuse maker ruins the whole team but they do make it hard to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Article: If you re about to get fired, then there s a good chance the warning signs are all around you. The problem is, you ve likely chosen to ignore them. If you want to stay on top of your game always keep an eye out for telltale signs that your job is in danger. That way, you can make some quick changes before you re handed a pink slip. If you walk into a room only to be met with silent stares then there s a good chance they know something you don t. If your friends seem to shy away from you, it probably means something s up. Your company is going through a merger After a merger, it s not uncommon for a company to lay off a few or sometimes massive amounts of employees. That s because mergers generally take place for the purpose of joining two or more companies to achieve greater efficiencies of scale and productivity. Back in 2005 when Procter Gamble announced that it would buy Gillette for $57 billion, 6,000 people were slated to lose their jobs once the company joined. The reason why, suggests Peter Cappelli, director of Wharton s Center for Human Resources, University of Pennsylvania is because the investors focus on costs, which generally means cutting workers to save money. So, if your hearing rumors about mergers, then sit down with your boss and have a good heart to heart about your future with the company. Going through merger suggests it s time to clean house, and that could mean dropping you from payroll. Your boss goes to your subordinates for information You were once a go to person for your boss. But lately, all signs point towards being left out of the loop. Most companies have a clear chain of command. When it s disturbed, and your boss goes to subordinates for information or work that he could easily get from you, then your position may soon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Godfather Personal Beliefs Modern and ambitious personal desires have become very distant from the old fashioned preaching of family traditions. Because of the gap between the bases of personal desires and family traditions, a person is left having to choose one and abandon the other. This is clearly illustrated in The Godfather , directed by Francis Ford Coppola, by how Michael Corleone s lifestyle completely changed when he switched from pursing his own goals to working in the family business. Based on the ideas presented in The Godfather , it becomes clear that for an individual to do something simply because their family wants them to can cause the person to have to throw their dreams into the wind, reform their beliefs to better match with the beliefs of the ... • 7. Essay On Fingerprint Finger Creating Fake Fingers for Secure Biometric Fingerprint Authentication As the unrelenting demand for smartphones continues to increase, many technology companies are looking for ways of making such devices easier, faster, and more user friendly. Many smartphones are equipped with fingerprint readers, allowing the user to access their phones securely and quickly without having to type in their pin or passcode. This prevents users from having to remember dozens of random passphrases that, in theory, a hacker could potentially guess and be granted access into. However, this poses a serious question How secure is fingerprintauthenticationand why should consumers trust that this technology will keep their information safe? Similarly,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Capacitive readers work by measuring the differences in capacitance between the ridges and valleys to map out the fingerprint. Because of this, unlike the optical reader, there is no light component necessary in order to read the fingerprint. Thus, the capacitive sensors can be much smaller, and are commonly seen in smartphones, laptops, and tablets. In figure 1 below, the difference between the fingerprints captured by the optical (left) and capacitive (right) readers can be seen. Due to the smaller size of the capacitive reader, it captures a smaller area of the fingerprint. Anil Jain and Joshua Engelsma of Michigan State University are creating life like fake fingers, commonly referred to as spoofs. These pigmented, conductive silicon spoofs share properties similar to human skin; their mechanical, optical, and electrical properties allow it to act basically as a finger. With these spoofs, creators of fingerprint readers can use them for two purposes: 1. remove the discrepancy between optical and capacitive readers and 2. enable readers to detect for only real fingers to be granted access. The current problem with many of these readers is that if it was recorded on one type of reader, and the user tried to authenticate with a different type, it would fail. These spoofs will allow developers to test their systems, without having to use their own fingers over and over again, while also ensuring consistency. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Mural Art History The history of Oregon portrays a picture that in general suggest the state has never been particularly fond of minorities. During the formation of the state, African Americans were not allowed within its borders. Out of all the states, Oregon was the only one who attempted to enforce this policy. Today, racist attitudes and racial discrimination towards African Americans is still a topic of concern. For example, black and Latinos are charged a higher rent and deposit by landlords in some areas of Portland. Clearly, this issue stems from the discriminatory beliefs and attitudes of the landlords who enforce these unjust disparities in cost. Art gives voice to those that cannot speak and is a tool used to combat inequality. In particular, visual art such as murals represents more than just art on a wall but rather the struggle for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This proposal is about the value and relevance of mural art to the African Americancommunity in Portland, Oregon post civil rights era. Although it s possible to argue that visual art such as murals are insignificant and provide little contribution to the African American community, nevertheless mural art has an ability to inspire and provide hope because it is a celebration of history, and marks the progress made by African Americans. Some of the sources of information used to support the validity of the theme in this proposal include journal articles, newspaper articles, and books. In Walls of Heritage, Walls of Pride: African American Murals, by James Prigoff and Robin J. Dunitz. The author states that murals are a celebration of skill, intelligence, ingenuity, imagination, and spirit that form an important thread in Black America, inspiring and shaping a culture of hope (Coleman 10). Its simple nervous system takes the form of a central ring, with radial nerves extending into each of its rays. Each ray is covered with thousands of tiny tubed feet that provide tactile information such as touch, temperature and body position. At the end of each ray are specialized tube feet filled with sensory cells that detect chemical cues and trigger sensations of taste and smell. Light sensory organs (red spots or eye spots) at the tip of each ray detect light and dark (direction, presence of large objects). • 10. A Research On Animal Farm Animal Farm The term: Organic deduces via natural resource there s only so much organic matter, because organic matter is determined what has decayed and at what amount for centuries. As our populace grows, the right kind of organic matter diminishes, there lies the problem. Here s the unsavoury verity. One of my bones of contention is that the consumer reads the organic term so frequently that marketing has inadvertently diluted the organic term s validity. For a starter, soil has to be fertile to grow produce apparently, fertile soil benefits from even greater quantities of chemical fertilizer; of the premise, organic matter isn t available en mass, to facilitate our inflated populace; hence, it s pure ignorance to systematically take the view organic produce hasn t been treated and claim it has more superior qualities. Oh yes, the imperialist Supermarkets dictate the tune to which our farmers grange dance to, due to authoritative policies ridding advertising standard powers to watchdogs meaning the supermarkets are allowed to use every trick in the book to capitalise on sales; affirmation, why the organic label is 100% marketing. Retailer s awareness is vehemently tainted and totally imbalanced; their aim is to satisfy their shareholders first and foremost too few consumers don t configure retailer s allegiances let alone their marketing prowess. • 11. Victor Hugo s Accomplishments Spanning from roughly 1750 to 1837, the Romantic period was an artistic and literary movement that sought after and treasured creativity and emotion, a drastic variation from prior periods in which logic and reason were valued (Wilhelm 669). Sometimes considered one of the greatest ages in literature, poets during Romanticismwere greatly inspired and fascinated by nature, human passions, quests, folk culture, the Middle Ages, physical sensations, mental states, and the innocence of children (669). Romantic works capture whimsy and imagination through a use of the five senses: touch, sight, smell, and sound (676). They view nature as lively and genuine and express the belief that nature is best when left wild and untouched by man (678). Most... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After years of traveling across Europe due to Joseph Hugo s military positions, Hugo s mother grew tired of Joseph Hugo and left her husband, fleeing to Paris in 1803 (2). Because he lived in a single parent home, much of Hugo s education was led by his mother, instilling in Hugo a loyalty to king and faith that was represented in his early work, and the two were very close (2). In fact, Hugo s mother helped motivate Hugo to pursue literary career despite studying law for three years in the mid 1810s and supported him in the endeavor (A E Networks Television 1). His mother would die in 1821, and, after her death, Hugo married Adele Foucher (Victor Hugo 2). The two would have several children, of which one daughter would drown in a boating accident in 1833, two of their sons would die in the early 1870s, and another daughter would be committed into an insane asylum during this same decade (6). Pre revolution Cuban women had been confined in constricting gender roles of Hispanic tradition. Female group and activists began to take action in many non traditional activities. Women broke tradition by leaving the home and joining in revolutionary movements. The struggle for women s equality in Cuban society is referred to as Revolution within a Revolution due to the many revolutionary changes for women that were brought about during the Cuban Revolution. Under Cubas new government women attained their right to an education, the ability to have a job outside of the home, child care was available, and women gained access to birth control. • 15. Empirical Formula Lab Report Empirical Formula and Percent Composition of Magnesium Oxide Prediction Magnesium oxide is an ionic compound (metal cation bonded to non metal anion); therefore, we can determine its formula using the ionic charges of magnesium (Mg2+), and oxygen (O2 ). To comply with the octet rule, the elements combine at a ratio of 1:1;as a result, the formula is MgO (s) . We can theoretically predict the empirical formula, and the percent composition, through this procedure: 1) Two moles of magnesiumcombines with two moles of oxygen. 2Mg(s) + O2 (g) 2MgO(s) Mg= 2 moles O = 2 moles 2) Divide both values by the smallest value and place the results in ratio form. This does not support my hypothesis, but there are possibilities why the experimental result did not match the prediction: There might have been unevaporated water left in the crucible, which would increase the weight of the oxygen . For example, of the 0.06 grams of oxygen measured, 0.02 grams could have been unevaporated water. There might have been some unreacted magnesium. This could have happened if some magnesium strips were covered by others, eliminating their exposure to air. Due to this, the mass of oxygen increases since it is naturally diatomic and doubles up. For example, out of the 0.06 grams of magnesium, 0.02 grams might not have reacted. This unreacted metal allows an oxygen (which would have otherwise been bonded to it) to double up with itself and increase the mass of total oxygen. Always, there could be mechanical error and human error. Since the crucible was an open system, mass could have entered or left due to air currents, or vibrations. • 17. The Psychological Effect Of Philanthropy And Psychology Just as philanthropy has great societal effects, it also has many psychological effects. When people decide to donate, they are bestowing on themselves an innumerable number of intangible costs, one of these costs is the psychological implication is giving. (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). Giving not only contributes to the way others see one but also to the way one sees himself, this contributes to one s self image as an altruistic, empathetic, social responsible, agreeable, or influential person (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). The first response one feels, however, is an emotional response, this response makes one feel good and have a positive mood (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). The nearly automatic response can liberate one from feelings of guilt, which in turn satisfies one s desire to show gratitude or morality (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). The first phenomenon that could be studied when linking together philanthropy and psychology, is the do good, feel good phenomenon. Evidence suggests that helping others and helping behavior has positive psychological effects on the helper or donor, this can be called, emphatic joy (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). Economic models of philanthropy suggest that this section of motives is called warm glow or joy of giving (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). In the horizontal direction this is controlled by the time base, whereas in the vertical direction the deflection is proportional to the signal input. Essentially the signal is amplified and applied to the Y plates of the cathode ray tube. A cathode ray tube consists of a number of elements. There is an electron gun that generates an electron beam that is fired along the length of the tube. This beam passes by deflection plates that are used to deflect the beam, as a result of electrostatic attraction and repulsion, and finally the beam hits a phosphor coating on the screen creating a small dot of light. To assist in making the trace as clear as possible, intensity and focus controls are included. The focus ensures that the dot that scans the screen remains as sharp as possible and in this way it can deliver a clear trace. The intensity control is required because the intensity of the dot or trace varies according to the speed at which the scan is made. Controlling the intensity enables a clear trace to be obtained. When the scan is very slow the dot is seen to traverse the screen and it is difficult to visualize the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gerard Hopkins liked to use sprung rhythmin which the stressed and unstressed syllables have a complicated relationship, and the message desired from the reader can change the rhythm. The NEP, abbreviation for the New Economic Policy , was a number of policies deployed by Vladimir Lenin to improve the conditions of post war USSR. The NEP replaced the system of War Communism which was used between 1918 and 1921. The main motive for the War Communism policy was to support and supply the Red Army with food and weapons during the Russian Civil War. However, after the war the country was in turmoil and the majority of the Soviet Union s population suffered hardship and poverty. Grain export was the most important source for their agriculture yet the exports were three fourth lower than it was a decade ago. This left the Russian economy to be far behind in modernisation than any other European countries. Modernisation was pivotal as it can enhance a country s strength in many ways. Most importantly, it would help support Russia s military at a time where an invasion to any European country could be foreseen. The Communists were afraid of this, since they were prone to any invasion with their weapons being out of date. The Communists felt they should be a major industrialization powerhouse against other European rivals such as Germany however the NEP would make the country even more vulnerable. Moreover, peasant realised feeding themselves is more important than buying insignificant consumer goods. So, they held grain for themselves and the grain export seems to have been abandoned. A system scale of individual peasant farming under the NEP couldn t support plans for industrialisation and the Communists were out of favour for this plan and so, the current NEP policy needs to be replaced by a more vigorous and rapid one. Archetypal Hero Journey The monumental piece of non fiction work titled The Hero with a Thousand Faces, first published in 1949 by Joseph Campbell points out an apparent monomyth of the hero through superb use of example and literary analysis. In this book Campbell presents three main phases of the archetypal hero; The Departure, The Initiation, and The Return. Within these three main phases there exist numerous sub phases that describe nearly all aspects of the heros journey and its impact upon the entire monomyth. Most heroes also experience a metaphysical death in which they have to cross into the realm of the underworld and return with knowledge or an item. Herakles does this for his twelfth and final labor, by traveling to the underworld in order to capture the guardian of the underworld, Cerberus, and return him once the king saw that he had completed the task. The final act that Herakles does that fits into the monomyth archetype of the hero is his act of becoming immortal. Upon his death funeral pyre, when the flame is lit he is risen up to Olympus and is granted the gift of immortality. This is significant for several reasons; firstly it shows that Hera in fact did embrace him at the end of his journey by allowing him to have immortality. Also his immortality ... When medical anomalies came up throughout history, the world had come to its own conclusions about what was wrong before medical science could determine the true causes. This, in turn, has led to some interesting connections between fictional ideas and medical cases that are very real. One of these such disorders is called porphyria, and it heavily influenced the way vampires were perceived in both literature and early movies. They represent the human desire for longevity and immortality, and even in fiction they remain a curiosity to medical science everywhere (Hallab 168). Although the sufferers of congenital erythropoietic porphyria are certainly not immortal, they have had a drastic impact on the idea and manifestation of vampires themselves. The sensitivity and erratic behavior around sunlight, the pale skin tone due to anemia, and the occasional desire for blood are all present side effects of both sufferers of porphyria and classic vampires. Both in literature and in early films starring vampires, the audience is captured by the exacerbated ailments that affect the vampire, such as turning to dust upon entering sunlight, and flesh literally searing at the touch of garlic. These dramatizations taken on by Dracula were not just borrowed from porphyria, however. Sightings of actual vampires were seen throughout the 1700 s in places like Transylvania, where the concentration of those suffering from porphyria was already higher than anywhere else (Hallab 169). Upon the seizing and murder of these apparent vampires, doctors swore that they were dealing with a vampire. Further, the sufferers of porphyria who began to experience symptoms could have easily mistaken a blister or lesion for a vampire bite. The similar pattern in inflation and the Fed Funds Rate can be seen in the two graphs below. If the Federal Open Market Committee does not increase the rate of the growing Fed Funds Rate within the next few quarters the likeliness of another recession increases. Jackie Robinson s life changed when he became the first black man to play in the world series and Major League Baseball (MLB) during a time of segregation in America. These life changing events challenged him because he had to face racially tense crowds and endured threats from teammates, opponents, and bigoted fans. Also in paragraph three the text states, There were threats against me and my family and even out and out attempts and physical harm to me. This explains how Jackie felt uneasy about how the whites were trying to put Jackie down. Fremio Sepulveda, a literary critic, works to analyze Junot Diaz s novel from an immigrant perspective as he analyzes The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao in terms of its racial and gender stereotypes. According to Sepulveda, Diaz incorporates a male narrator who, degrades women to foreground his own masculine identity showing how Diaz s writing style can challenge many of his readers. For example in the novel, Diaz writes, [he] was actually partying with Johnny Abbes sucking whiskey out of the navels of underage (expletive) (Diaz.122). This quote shows how Diaz incorporates inappropriate wording and references to develop his storyline making the book unsuitable for high school students. Although Diaz may be incorporating this style to develop the plot of the story, it would be illogical to implement it in a school curriculum due to its controversial nature. Although some teenagers may be able to handle the suggestive nature of Diaz s writing, many teenagers would find the explanation of certain details and descriptions to be uncomfortable and gorey.
