Essay On Mozart Effect
The Mozart Effect, broadly stated, is the idea that music can help with many other aspects of a student
s education. Its research started decades ago and is still highly debated today, with some condition to
the findings. However, in Bob Duke s article, he explains why it doesn t matter whether of not it helps
tests scores. He believes we should not be using this as an excuse for keeping music programs because
there are countless better reasons. Duke s article highly reinforced why I personally believe music
education is so important and why I can t wait to be a part of it.
The Mozart Effect theory first started with research based on the effect of music on the brain. One of
the first to test this was Gordon Shaw and his student Xiaodan ... Show more content on

The first study was done to replicate Shaw s method by testing how music affected two spatial tasks.
In this study, those who listened to Mozart had a higher average test score. As for the other study, they
measured brain wave activity within college students two times, one time after they listened to a
Mozart sonata and once after listening to no music. Lerch and Dr. Anderson stated that The EEG
recordings were somewhat correlated with the students performance, as increased brain activity was
associated with an increase in spatial reasoning performance after listening to the Mozart .
After this research, the book The Mozart Effect: Tapping the Power of Music to Heal the Body,
Strengthen the Mind and Unlock the Creative Spirt was written by Don Campbell in 2002. According
to Donna Lerch and Dr. Thomas Anderson of The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, his
book claimed that listening to the music of Mozart could raise your intelligence quotient.
As for Bob Duke s article, he discussed why we shouldn t base the whole reasoning for keeping music
education on tests scores. Even if music may help raise tests scores or make students smarted, we
should not be defending it in this way. Duke explains that if we continue to do this, we are basing the
whole future of music education on test scores.
In both Duke and I s opinions, there are so many other amazing reasons why we should continue
music education, not just because it has the potential to make

Machiavelli And William Shakespeare s View Of The King
Shakespeare s view of the crown is that of royal incompetence, tyrannical behavior, and years of
discontentment for the people being resided over. Richard II tells the story of a tyrannical king whose
fate is sealed by a loyal noble, which was the typical way politics existed in sixteenth century
England. Regicide and usurpers became a familiar aspect of this story, and the enemy is the one who
has pledged their allegiance to the court. This is just a few of the pitfalls of the English government
seen in this story, that ultimately led to Richard II s demise. In this play, he is matched against Henry
Bolingbroke, a man who had a rightful claim on Richards life, a man who can only be described as a
true Machiavellian. In The Prince, a set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This decision is sure to lead to his ruin because it was known to Bolingbroke and his father Gaunt, that
the king was involved in the murder of Thomas of Woodstock. Shakespeare shows that a king who is
merciful, is not industrious, instead very incompetent for not putting an end to both parties that know
of his treachery. Shakespeare goes on the show that Richard does not take counsel from those who
have the experience and knowledge to further his rule, much like when he decided to banish Mowbry
and Bolingbroke, that decision was done by himself, without hearing any advice or taking heed of
what the consequences might be. Even Gaunt had tried to help Richard even on his deathbed he says
that his life s counsel would not hear but hoped that his death s sad tale may yet undeaf his ear (II.i pg
401).Machiavelli points out that a prince who inherits the throne, like Richard, is the most enabled to
keep and maintain his power, he who has connections and had witnessed those who succeeded him,
for it is a wise man ought always to follow the paths beaten by great men, and to imitate those who
have been supreme (Machiavelli 28). Richard s arrogance and lack of rationality to heed the wise man
s words are predictable, the steady progression of incompetence proves that England needs a
Machiavellian rule, instead of one who prefers flatterers advice. This damnation of self that is seen

Water Is An Important Factor That Affects Sorption
Water is an important factor that affects sorption because when there is excess water or when water
drains through soil from sources at the surface, adsorbed pesticide molecules can become unattached,
or desorbed, and wash away to a new location (Rao, 1999). Just as degradation has a measure in the
half life of a compound, sorption also has a measure in the partition coefficient (Koc), which is a ratio
of pesticide concentration in a soil bound state versus dissolved in soil water (Rao, 1999). In fact, the
solubility of a pesticide and its sorption on soil are inversely related; [in other words], increased
solubility results in less sorption (Rao, 1999). Both sorption and degradation are effected by soil type
and pH, both of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Volatilization is a means of major pesticide loss and its rate of loss can often exceeds that of
degradation, runoff, or leaching (van der Werf, 1996). For example, in an Oregon study, soil samples
64km from any agriculture were found to have DDT residues, and in Saskatchewan, Canada, 20% of
2, 4 D iso octyl ester volatilized in 24 hours (Pimentel, 1995). Once in the atmosphere, pesticide
residues can spread anywhere, even Antarctica (Pimentel, 1995). Large amounts of pesticides and
organic compounds can be transported around the globe in the atmosphere, for example, in the
atmosphere of the Netherlands, the amounts of
BHC, DDT, and heptachlor were reported to be 4600, 1064, and 190 pg/m 3, respectively (Pimentel,
1995).
Topography and Geology Topography and geology affect pesticide movement in as much as directing
or transporting pesticides. Topography is very obvious, for example, if a field is right next to a river, it
is much more likely for runoff to get into the river system, or if a field is in a low area not very far
above the water table, pesticides are very likely to leach into the groundwater. On the other hand, a
field could be high and dry and very far from any river or groundwater, but if it is hilly that can pose
its own problems. As T. Y. Tong and Chen point out, surface runoff is an important source of non point
pollution (Tong and Chen, 2002). Though it was pointed out by van der Werf that volatilization is the
biggest source of

Different Models Of Psychotherapies One
As one starts to look at the different models of psychotherapies one must also look at
the foundations upon which the models have been built. No matter the structure, whether it
be buildings, sentences, or model theories, the structure must be built on a solid foundation or
the structure shall fall. This premise is set forth in the scriptures as well. Christ tells a story in
Matthew 7:24 27 of two men who each built a house. One man built his foundation on rock
while the other sets his foundation on sand. During a period of rain the one who had his
foundation on rock found his house was able to withstand the onslaught, while the one who
had his foundation on sand lost all. Christ refers to himself as a rock in Matthew ... Show more content

Every part, however, must be
analyzed in view of scripture prior to determining any usefulness it may or may not have.
Jay Adams makes the statement that Man was created as a being whose very existence is
derived from and dependent upon a Creator whom he must acknowledge as such and from
whom he must obtain wisdom and knowledge through revelation. He continues to state that
Man is not autonomous...Man needed God s Word from the outset... When one takes this
view one would rationally think that God would provide everything in the Bible that mankind
would need, especially for mental and spiritual welfare.
It would appear that sometimes people limit the Word of God not due to the limitation of
scripture, but due to the limitation of some peoples knowledge and understanding.
When one considers the models of Classical Psychoanalysis one can easily make the
determination that the model is based upon an improper foundation. Sigmund Freud is
considered the founder of this model and with his atheistic viewpoint it would be only
reasonable to make the statement that this model is not based upon Christ, rather, it is based
upon the most primitive of animalistic tendencies. Even Stanton and Butman recognized the
Darwinistic tendencies of Freud stateing, Darwins evolutionary perspective exerted profound
influence over the thinking of Freud s late

Personal Experience And My Experience
Being a first time freshman is exciting and intimidating at the same time, for me it is higher than the
average because I do not usually adventure beyond the set path. This is why I appreciate my friends,
who are thrill seekers and tag me along with them. At the California State University of Bakersfield, I
have found the freedom to break away from the set path by following the trail on an Outdoor
Adventure and experiencing the Piedra Blanca Formation Hike. My friend Ana* had invited me to
accompany her on this hike because of the accessibility of the trip. The trip was priced ten dollars
which is a bargain compared to the amazing excursion my friends and I were on. *(I am changing my
friend s name for their privacy) This trip included the transportation from the University to the Piedra
Blanca Formation, and lunch. The day of the trip I was feeling sick and I did consider canceling but I
decided I was not feeling too sick and the fresh air would help. I was waiting for my friend Ana and as
she picked me up she invited me to grab a special Starbucks drink called the medicine ball, it is a mix
of different herbal teas, which surprisingly did help me feel better. We arrive at the university parking
lot and there are around ten other people ready to head out and we are all adrenalized and nervous to
go on the trip. My friend Ana and I were preparing our snacks to head out and as we are boarding the
van we meet the two other passengers, who were the trip leaders. Both were

Similarities Between Dreams And Dreams
One of the interesting differences between the two is that often, we are aware of watching a film, but
not that we are in a dream, which is an important difference that can have interesting consequences for
answering if a dream is a fiction. Lastly, Curry argues that in dreams we have a bi sociative character,
meaning that we have both the sense of being in the dream and being a spectator in it, this is an
interesting phenomenon, however, I think that this also exists in normal everyday experience in the
form of reflexive awareness. By reflexive awareness, I mean that we can have an awareness that we
are aware, so this phenomenon is not exclusive to dreams. Looking at the similarities between film
and dreams is an interesting avenue to examine the question, but does not give a full enough evidence
to show that dreams are indeed fictions, nor does it answer the question if a dream is even like a film,
all it shows is that they have similarities. However, it is possible to think of a dream as a film, if you
imagine a device that can record your dreams and then project it onto a screen and watch the dream on
the screen then the dream would act as if it were a film, having the same similarities as mentioned
above. But, there would also be a lot lost in the translation as well, such as the bi sociative character
(Curry), and the ability to feel so much in a dream. But due to the ease in which it is possible to
imagine a dream as a film, it strengthens the argument for a

The recommendations for improvement fall into four distinct categories; streamline the inventory
process provide an automated, customer accessible ordering system (which allows customer to track
products ordered in transit), create a centralized sales database to eliminate duplicated effort and

One of the biggest improvements to be made that would assist the manufacturing, delivery and
shipping systems are changes to the inventory management system. The inventory management
system needs to be upgraded to a less manual, more automated system utilizing barcode technology.
Barcodes would be placed on every product built and/or raw materials received by Riordan. Inventory
would be scanned when picked from the shelves, would be scanned when placed on transit, and would
be scanned upon arrival and departure at any Riordan facility. This would be put into place for both
raw materials arriving as well as products that are post production and ready for distribution. With
accurate inventory counts, the company could better forecast low inventory levels and drive
manufacturing based on the available inventory and projected orders from our customers. The system
will have reorder quantities established and will auto reorder when inventory levels get

Hunting Deer Dogs Should Be Banned
Many families in the world have pets they love and care for each day; however, how would the
parents and children handle the killing of one of their adored pets while trying to harvest deer?
Hunting deer with dogs is a very fast paced technique of hunting. Hunters line up in a horizontal line
in the woods and wait patiently for the dogs to flush the deer into their sight. Hunters then shoot
anything that runs out of the woods because if they wait too long to determine how mature the deer is,
the deer will have already ran by them. Not only are young deer killed, but sometimes, the poor,
innocent dogs are shot on accident and a hunter may be in the wrong place at the wrong time also.
Hunting deer with dogs should be banned because it decreases the population, pressures the deer, and
is dangerous for the hunters and the dogs. Hunting deer with dogs should be banned because it
decreases the population. Hunters who hunt with dogs, commonly known as dog hunters, shoot any
deer seen to provide food for their family. These hunters may use this method as the only way to
provide meat on the table for their families. The dog hunters shoot young deer that other hunters who
do not use this method would have waited to shoot until they have become mature enough. If dog
hunters harvest any deer no matter the age or size, then the deer population will decrease because the
deer will not be able to express the full maturity needed to reproduce. For instance, John Hay Rabb

Pinnacle Of Selfishness Essay
All humans are selfish on instinct, the will to survive being an innate trait all humans are born with,
but most people don t give this selfishness a second thought despite having the brain power to do so. It
has become so natural for people to act based on their own personal interests that someone who
observes more than acts can see the consequences that come with that way of living. In my life I
observe far too many people around me making selfish decisions to only benefit themselves. I can
willingly admit I m not the pinnacle of selflessness either, since selfishness is a survival mechanism
that is deeply ingrained in the human DNA, but I spare people second thoughts and glances. I instill
deep emotional value and strive towards being a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have never been in any kind of high school dating relationships. Most of the reasons I have not been
are unrelated to the topic, but the topic is the most influential reason of all. Most people have been told
to let something go if you love it, and most people fail to do so because of selfishness. My other peers
pursue their interests even when met with limited or mass amounts of resistance. These peers are
among the most selfish in my mind because they refuse to let something they love go even if that
person is not happy with them. On the other hand, I take this rule a little too seriously. I am not the
type of teenager who calls something love only to disregard it a month or two later. Generally, my
nature is very caring and selfless and can be easily taken advantage of without the façade I equip to
protect my emotions. In short, when I care for someone it is a deep attachment with multiple layers.
So, in theory I should be fighting for the people I m interested in approximately twice as hard as my
peers duel for mere emotional playthings. This is not the case, oftentimes my interests have no interest
in me. I could fight for them or push for their attention but I allow them to be happy with others.
Seeing a smile on a person s face and knowing they re happy is a great reward. My place is off to the
side, willing to do almost anything I can to make this

Essay on Comparing Two Advertisements
In this essay I have chosen to compare two adverts. I chose two from a magazine called VOGUE , I
chose them as they both were linked by the theme of fashion but were advertising different products,
this will help me show differences between the adverts but the fashion theme will help me to also
highlight similarities. The first advert I chose was by a company called Garrard they make fashion
accessories such as leather accessories, silverware and also jewellery which is what they are mainly
known for. The advert I chose has specifically advertised jewellery in this case a ring and a necklace.
On face value the advert has a ring and a necklace laid on a picture of a of the U.K flag. Part of both

The rock and punk element that surrounds Mick and Jade Jagger is again emphasised with the words
Rock Hard written across the advert. This implies that whoever wears this will look rock hard and
strong so the product instantly conveys an image of strength so would appeal to anybody who would
like that image. Also the word Rock obviously relates again to Mick Jagger s music again reminding
you that Mick Jaggers s daughter is designing the jewellery. The word Rock also brings images of
partying and the word Hard could convey that whoever wears this is the type of person to party Hard .
Again this would appeal to anybody who wants to have this image. The skulls on the necklace repeat
this Rock image of the necklace as skulls are associated with rock music and being wild. The necklace
and ring have a large wing on them this again emphasises partying as the symbol is loud. The wings
also give the impression that somebody is free and original so people would buy this to have an image
of being a free spirit and being original. Being original is important into today s fashion circles so this
aspect of the advert raises the chances of viewers buying these pieces of jewellery. Other aspects of
the advert relate more towards the brand for instance the word Garrard in bold lettering reiterates who
is making this jewellery and the three hall marks highlight a sign of

Factors That Implement Our Way Of Thinking
Many factors implement our way of thinking, but some tend to be more important than others. Age is
a factor, depending on your age often determines how serious you are and what your needs are. For
instance, being an adolescent you are going through stages of puberty and forming into an adult. Your
needs then tend to be impacted by your peers at school, and what is cool. Most adolescents seek
intimacy, communication, empathy and identity, your needs will definitely be different than a thirty
five year old seeking a marriage partner. All through history, the picture of a beautiful lady, and an
attractive man, has fluctuated. Perceptions of beauty do not only vary by culture but have also evolved
throughout time.In Ancient Egypt around 1292 1069 B.C., the ideal women had narrow shoulders, a
high waist, symmetrical face, and was thin. Throughout Ancient Egypt the society back then was
considered a sex positive setting, where pre marital sex took place and was considered adequate. Old
Greeks considered women beautiful, if they had a full rounded shape, full bodied, and had light skin.
The Han Dynasty (206 B.C. 220 A.D.) women in this culture were viewed as perfect in the event that
they had expansive eyes, fair skin, small feet and a little midriff. Likewise, long dark hair, white teeth,
and red lips. Throughout the time of the Italian Renaissance, women were viewed beautiful if they had
full hips, fair skin, a rounded stomach and an apple blossom, as well as light hair.

Correlation Between Secondary And Secondary Students On...
Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine whether primary and secondary psychopaths had
deficiencies in empathy, and was conducted by applying Levenson s SRPS and ToM test to a non
institutionalized group. Studies show that psychopathic individuals have no deficiency with empathy,
and support the first hypothesis of a negative correlation between primary psychopathy and empathy.
The study doesn t support the second hypothesis of a negative correlation between secondary
psychopathy and empathy, with no evidence to support this.
The Association Between Primary Secondary Psychopathy and Cognitive Empathy
The term psychopathy is described as a disorder characterized by callousness (Richell et al, 2003) and
is more of a personality trait than a stereotype. Within the term psychopathy, there are different
subtypes that divide both a primary and secondary psychopath. A primary psychopath is characterized
by traits such as lack of remorse and manipulative. Secondary psychopaths are also associated with
social anxiety and low self esteem (Ali, 2010), known to be more emotional. Both forms of
psychopathy are deficient in cognitive empathy, the ability to understand and recognize others
emotions. Psyc121 is conducting this study to add to previous studies and fill in gaps from previous
literature, such as three readings used to support our studies. Levenson s main purpose (Levenson,

Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate hydrolyzed feather meal (HFM) as a substitute for
fish meal (FM) or soybean meal (SBM) in Nile tilapia fry diets. Triplicate groups of fish (initial body
weight 2.30 g ± 0.01) were fed seven isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets formulated to contain 30 %
crude protein and 19.70 kJ g 1 gross energy for 8 weeks. The control diet (CD) contained 22 % local
FM and 30 % SBM, whereas in the other six diets, HFM replaced 33, 66 or 100 % of FM or SBM.
The best weight gain
(11.46), specific growth rate (3.14) and feed conversion ratio (1.24) of tilapia fry fed
SBM33%, CD, FM33% and SBM66% diets were exhibited. Final body weight and protein retention
increased in a linear pattern with increasing amino acids in the experimental diets with the exception
of leucine and valine. The results indicated that good quality HFM can successfully replace FM or
SBM by up to 33 and 66 %, respectively, in Nile tilapia fry diets without compromising growth and
protein utilization. The results also support the benefits of combining different sources of plant and
animal proteins in Nile tilapia diets.

The Union Policy Of The European Union
What most people don t realise is just how deeply being a member of the European Union affects us in
our everyday lives. It doesn t just affect our law and big political issues but also our culture, the NHS
and job prospects. In this essay I will only be focusing on a tiny amount of the issues raised out of the
enormous range including how being a member of the European Union affects our laws, jobs and
immigration. I will try to weigh up all of the arguments for each side and, hopefully, come to a
conclusion.
Immigration

This policy evidently has many benefits however most people are seemingly only concerned with the
fact that it allows anybody within the EU to immigrate to the UK and we can t refuse them. There has
been a huge increase of the number of people coming to live in the UK over the past few years with
the UK population reaching 64,596,800 in June of 2015 almost half a million more than the previous
year .
However you have to remember that this influx of immigrants isn t just happening in the United
Kingdom, it is happening throughout the world on a major scale. For example it was reported that by
the 7th June 2015 that over 50,000 migrants had already arrived in Italy after crossing the
Mediterranean Sea from Libya in treacherous conditions and this is deemed to be only the beginning.
There has been a 750% increase in the amount of migrants going to Greece this year, 63% of which
are from Syria .
The main issue that arises is over who should take these immigrants into their countries within the EU
as there are many plans being drawn up to relocate some of them through a quota system, however not
everyone wants this. The British Prime Minister David Cameron is one example of people who want
to reject the proposal about enforcing quotas of immigrants in EU countries (due to public opinion)
and he is not alone in this as many others are of the same view; these include most of

Lessons From The Life Of Joseph
Lessons from the Life of Joseph: Overcoming Betrayal

Text: Genesis 37:18 28
Introduction: The life of Joseph saw both great conflict and incredible drama. Yet, Joseph lived
beyond his circumstances. Joseph was a godly man who overcame terrible situations to be used by
God in a mighty way. Over the years, Joseph would suffer many dramatic reversals of fortune. He
overcame prison, abandonment, loneliness, and fear, until God ultimately placed him in a position to
save his entire family and, indeed, all the progeny of Abraham. Though Joseph might not have been
able to see it, God was always at work in His life. Indeed, through Joseph, God acted to preserve His
covenant people. There are many lessons from the overcoming life of Joseph that Christians may take
comfort in today. The first lesson is in overcoming betrayal.
What did sibling rivalry look like in your family? Did you squabble over a favorite TV channel? Did
you suspect mom and dad played favorites? It is hard to imagine that the most dysfunctional families
we see today could have topped the mess that Joseph was raised in. You see, not only was Joseph s
father, Jacob, a polygamist with children by four women, but also, Jacob played

Essay on Religions and Japanese Culture
Religions and Japanese Culture
Many religions are popular within the Japanese culture. Two of the most influential religions, Shinto
and Buddhism that help shaped a lot of Japanese values are Shinto and Buddhism, played a large role
in shaping Japanese values. Numerous similarities and differences run between these two religions;
nonetheless, the Japanese often believe in more than one religion at the same time. This is possible
due to the polytheistic nature of most popular religions in Japan. It is not hard to say that religion is a
big part of Japanese culture because a lot of religious beliefs can still be seen in their everyday lives.

Later on, the Japanese adapted another religion, Buddhism. Like Shinto, Buddhism is also a
polytheistic religion. Moreover, because Shinto does not explain the afterlife while Buddhism does,
these two religions co existed in Japanese culture. Many people adapt to both religions belief system
at the same time. Zen Buddhism became widely adapted by the samurais later on during the Warrior
Period. Zen Buddhism focuses on the discipline of individuals, one of the many reasons why samurais
are seen as very refined warriors. They are often portrayed as being able to sense an enemy s attacks
before they actually happen. This is an exaggeration of a samurai s ability to concentrate and focus on
a goal. The samurais often use a Zen Buddhism technique called Za Zen to help clear their mind. A
practical religion, Zen Buddhism helps to enhance self discipline and improve one s self
concentration. One of the teachings of Zen Buddhism is Bushin, meaning the clarification of the mind.

Racial Zoning Research Paper
Distinguished in chapters three and four of The Color of Law, racial zoning is a way for organizations
to manipulate and control what neighborhoods African Americans and other ethnic minority groups
reside in. Due to this, many of African Americans viewed racial zoning as a serious threat to their well
being in the United States. With the help of Jim Crow laws, exclusionary zoning, and the On Your
Own Home campaign, banks and real estate agents had provoked economic discrimination towards
various ethnic minority groups. Furthermore, through the concepts of dysfunctionalism, social
inequality, latent functionalism, and Eurocentrism as seen in The Real World, racial zoning has
negatively affected African Americans from breaking out of what the world considers them to be.
After the American Civil War, newly freed slaves started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this intention, banks and real estate agents will no longer be readily available in urban
communities, but in suburban regions. The reasoning for this stem back to the overall goal of keeping
African Americans separate from whites. Now, however, without banks and real estate agents, urban
communities do not have the same privilege as someone from a suburban household. This is viewed
through the concepts of social inequality and Eurocentrism because of the unwillingness of whites;
there is an unequal distribution of prestige regarding African American rights. In conclusion, African
Americans were targeted for the ideology of racial zoning. Jim Crow laws, exclusionary zoning, and
the On Your Own Home campaign, all helped support this ideology and furthermore established what
concepts simulated these policies. Dysfunctionalism, social inequality, latent functionalism, and
Eurocentrism explain why and what racial zoning

Chicago Bulls Research Paper
Being the team of the decade is a huge title to have. It sounds like it would be hard to obtain that title,
but we see multiple different teams dominating the NBA during certain decades. The question why? is
a good question to ask; it can all be traced back to certain star players that would dominate the league
so much that they made certain teams a power house team. I believe that teams of the decade are not a
real thing, but player of the decade is a better term to give someone and more deserving. In the 1990s,
the team of the decade was the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls won six titles in eight years through 1990 to
1998 with the Houston Rockets winning the other two titles. This was the first dominate team to arise
since the Boston Celtics in the 1950s. However, during the 1990 decade, there were eleven different
teams that made it to the finals. This showed how strong the competition was in teams around the
Bulls were. Consequently, this showed how dominate a certain super star was to dominate the league,
since there was so many other great players playing during his prime like Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing,
and Hakeem Olajuwon. Michael Jordan was the key to the Bulls success. With undeniable stats,
Jordan crushed the league around him and brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Lakers won four titles with six finals appearances. Additionally, they won a title a year before the
decade and a title a year after the decade, so they won six titles in twelve years. Their main rival was
the San Antonio Spurs, which won three out of the six titles the Lakers did not win. The Lakers were
the team of the decade due to two undeniable star players, a big man and a shooter. Kobe Bryant and
Shaquille O Neal made the Lakers the team they were. The Spurs were led by great players like Tim
Duncan and Tony Parker to become a secondary team to the Lakers. This really shows how the teams
of the decades were really just players of the

Copyright Law Of 1976 Summary
The Copyright Law of 1976 provided teachers with guidelines and allowances to reproduce
copyrighted materials to teach in face to face classrooms, but Congress revised the laws in 2001 to
meet the needs of educators teaching students through distance learning. Before the Technology,
Education, and Copyright Harmonization Act of 2001 (TEACH Act), the Copyright Law of 1976
provided only for display of copyrighted broadcasts in a classroom setting or place of instruction, to
homebound students, and to government employees. The Copyright Law of 1976 prohibited most
digital transmissions because of the inherent need to reproduce and distribute materials through

Reformers During The Progressive Era
After the Civil War and during the Progressive Era there were the group of reformers that changed the
landscape the United States. These reformers were mainly comprised of men and women from the
large northern cities and rural religious communities of Wisconsin (Schultz, 2013). The industrial age
created enormous amounts of wealth, but people were living in the worst conditions and working
longer hours than ever before. The Social Gospel movement sought to improve the working
conditions, restrict the child labor laws and fight for social justice (Fales, 2013). This methodology
was directly against what the Industrialist believed. Which was a Darwinist attitude of the survival of
the fittest. The next influential reformer group that had a

Ethical Theories
2. Ethical Theories used to justify Anglo American s Obligation to the ethical issue in Chilean Mines
2.1 Virtue Ethics: In virtue ethical theory, an individual is judged by his character rather than by his
actions that may deviate from his normal behavior (Fraedrich, Ferrel and Ferrel, 2009). In Chile s
case, application of virtue ethics justifies the following mishaps:
Fairness: With Research gathered from the case study, contract workers are assigned much more
dangerous tasks with great risks of injury towards their health i.e. the company uses these workers for
a certain period of time and do away with them once younger stronger workers become available
while protecting their full time staff with easier tasks and extra benefits ... Show more content on

Moreover, full time workers were entitled to rights of a union while contract workers were denied
these rights on the saying that they were third class workers thus this lead to accumulated anger which
finally resulted to company damage in theft, looting and fires (Reuters, 2014).
From the above justification, it has being observed that the Government, CEOs and Anglo American
do not uphold labour rights, rights to life, rights to health etc. After the application of the above ethical
theories, Anglo American has an obligation to address the ethical issues observed at the mines.

Mobile Phones Has Changed The Way Of Communications
Imagine a day in 1800 when someone would have said that we can talk to people miles away we can
see them over a device people would have mocked the person saying the person might have gone
insane. But see a scenario in today s world its quite common to people to not only talk but also see a
person over mobile phone, no matter how far he is away. Mobile phone is a boon in itself. Mobile
phones have really changed the way of communications. In recent years mobile phones have evolved
significantly. While the very first cellular phones only provided functionality for conducting phone
calls, nowadays provide a rich variety of functionalities. Additional hardware capabilities like new

Mobile has become a connecting hub for critical masses of everyday life either shopping or else
searches for information, and management of the latest happenings and news, on both a personal and
global level. Unlike any other device before it, the mobile phone travels everywhere with its owner
from bedside table to workplace to errands and home again. Toni Ahonen, a commentator and author
on new and social media, has called the mobile phone the 7th Mass Media. He notes, Differing from
the internet, mobile as the 7th mass media channel is similar to the five legacy mass media,
economically viable with a stable business model from day one. Yet, differing from the legacy mass
media, all of which are witnessing a decline in their audiences and revenues, mobile like the internet,
is an interactive media enabling it to fully capitalize on social networking and digital communities. He
points out that the convergence of mobiles combining voice, text, video, audio, geo location, and a
host of applications, pose similar to the introduction of the Internet before it, an inherent threat mass
media channel. Today the mobile phone can replicate everything that all previous six mass media can
do. So from an abilities point of view, mobile phones can be at least as disruptive as the Internet has
been so far. phones has emerged as a powerful form of citizen journalism only in the last few years.

Gender Stereotypes In The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not so much a movie as more of a long running social phenomenon
(Ebert). The interpretation of the film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was produced in 1975,
opens the curtains to the cross on top of a church after being introduced to the characters by the huge,
bright red lips. Promptly after the introduction the camera moves in a sensational gesture towards a
just married couple that is walking to the front of the church with their wedding guests, carrying the
traditional wedding ceremony of throwing the newly brides bouquet. The visual that is taken in this
scene seems to be vital to the aspect behind the film, as it is showing how dull a wedding that carries
the same tradition can be, especially since it is being related to the following scene at the castle of Dr.
Frank n Furter. With the proximity of the heterosexual traditions and the events at the mansion, it is
obvious this film is meant to draw into question the common gender stereotypes along with sexuality.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show validates that gender roles and stereotypes are socially constructed
and that there should not be any social stigma attached to personalities that cannot easily be identified
as a male or female by using irony, the use of social practice, and more specifically through Dr. Fran n
Furter s character.
Even with an unbiased reading of the production, it is obvious that The Rocky Horror Picture Show
does in fact speak on the social issue of

The Complex Variety and Uses of the Senecio Genus
Senecio is a huge genus in the family Asteracea, which in turn is one of the biggest families: meaning
Senecio is one of the most largest genus in the world with up to 3000 species found. (Voss, 1985)
Since then, phylogeny has separated many members of the Senecio genus and reclassified them as
Packera. However, Packera spp. are still complex, so much so that Robert Kowal discovered a new
species on Isle Royal in Michigan in 2011, and aptly named it Packera insulae regalis. According to
Kowal, The populations that are currently grouped under the name Packera paupercula do represent a
motley lot that should be split into a handful of species. (personal communication, 8/1/2013) The plant
P. paupercula, also known as Life Root or Balsam Ragwort, is a dwarf member of Alvar habitats
reaching heights of two feet. The entire plant can be incredibly variable: basal leaves can range from
medium to long petioled, and obovate to oblong or oblanceolate in shape. The margins are usually
toothed with serrations that vary from lobed to pinnatified, and leaf apexes that are either blunt or
tipped. Cauline leaves are individual to many, smaller, deeply serrated and partially to fully clasping
the stem. P. paupercula is known for its pubescence, especially at the leaf axils. The golden
inflorescence are capitate and more or less flat topped. As summer comes into full swing, the petals
can be seen falling off one by one until poof a pappus and achene are all that remains. The

Essay on Duddy s Focus on Wealth
In my opinion, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, a book written by Mordecai Richler, is
ultimately about money. Simcha Kravitz, Duddy s grandfather, would tell Duddy as a child that a man
without land is nobody. These words encouraged him to live his life in a manner in which he would do
anything he could in order to obtain the land that a nobody would not possess. But Duddy does not
solely focus his desires on land; instead, his goals are set on wealth in general.
In order to acquire wealth, Duddy engages in acts of dishonesty and deceit. He does this by exploiting
the weaknesses of his friends, such as Virgil Roseboro and Yvette Durelle, while completely
disregarding the fact that by doing this, his dignity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Duddy ends up forging Virgil s signature on a check in order to access Virgil s bank account and steal
his money. Although this money help s Duddy purchase the remainder of his land, in the process he
becomes a despised and wretched tyrant. Not only does this result in the annihilation of Duddy s
friendship with Virgil, but also results in the loss of Yvette s respect for Duddy. It becomes quite
obvious that Duddy did not value his friendships as much as he did his wealth, as if he did, he would
ve earned money the proper way, as a waiter, and wouldn t have resorted to such ruthless acts in order
to attain complacency. It s quite disappointing to learn how he would sacrifice the only loving
relationship he ever had (with Yvette) just so he can obtain land. Normally, a person who lived a life
devoid of love would be desperate to acquire it. However, Duddy still decided to pursue his dreams of
owning land on the contrary to pursuing a loving relationship that his life was in need of.
Come to think of it, Duddy s life has been morally derailed ever since he was a child. As a child, he
took advantage of the fact that as a minor, he was not susceptible to lawsuits. He broke the law
frequently in attempt to obtain more wealth. Such examples of this would include his fraudulent
behaviour with stamp companies, his selling of stolen hockey sticks, and his distribution of
pornographic comic books. In an entrepreneurial sense, Duddy had the correct goals;

The Great Plains Indians
The Great Plains was the home of thousands of Indians. The Great Plains Indians is a tribe that still
lives in part of the North of the United States and Canada. This tribe is also known as the Sioux s, a
tribe that still lives in this territory. Indian tribes struggle every day because they do not have
recourses. They do not live a normal life because most of them have diabetes which makes their life
expectancy shorter than other Americans. Males tend to live till the age of 48 and females to the age of
52 which is not normal for Americans. Some of the factors that affect this life expectancy are low
income and their nutrition. Most Indians only make about $8,000 per years, that is not even one third
of what a normal American makes per year.

Essay On Pig To Human Xenotransplantation
There are 8,000 humans waiting for a life saving [organ] transplant, . These people are unable to get
organs because there is not enough human organs for the people who need them. With this epidemic
scientists and doctors turn to pigs for the answer. Pig organs are anatomically similar to humans, states
surgeon C. Growth. The problem with pig to human xenotransplantation is that pigs contain
proviruses, such as PERVs, that are harmful to humans. With new technology, geneticists have found a
way to cut and paste gene sequences. Geneticists are starting pig to human xenotransplantation with
pig stomachs because they contain very little PERV, and with CRISPR they are able to make
xenotransplantation safe for humans.

The thousands of people waiting for a human stomach transplantation might receive a pig s stomach
instead. When a patient needs a new stomach, he is placed on the organ donor list for a new human
stomach. This patient could be waiting years before he would offered a human stomach. When the
patient receives the transplant, he has to hope his body accepts the new stomach, and that there are no
diseases within the stomach. Once clinical xenotransplantation becomes available there will be no
organ shortages and it will be possible to offer transplantation to all patients in need, declares surgeon
C. Growth.
Once the patient receives the pig stomach transplantation, him and his offsprings with be monitored
most or all of their lives. This is done to make sure their body does not reject the stomach or get a
disease for the stomach. To a person in need of a new stomach, this is a small price to pay for a
healthier life. With CRISPR geneticists are able to give stomachs to patients who need them, but with
the small risk that the PERV gene was not cut out and comes back. Geneticists acknowledge this risk
and make sure that everything is properly done and makes the need of stomachs no

  • 2. Essay On Mozart Effect The Mozart Effect, broadly stated, is the idea that music can help with many other aspects of a student s education. Its research started decades ago and is still highly debated today, with some condition to the findings. However, in Bob Duke s article, he explains why it doesn t matter whether of not it helps tests scores. He believes we should not be using this as an excuse for keeping music programs because there are countless better reasons. Duke s article highly reinforced why I personally believe music education is so important and why I can t wait to be a part of it. The Mozart Effect theory first started with research based on the effect of music on the brain. One of the first to test this was Gordon Shaw and his student Xiaodan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first study was done to replicate Shaw s method by testing how music affected two spatial tasks. In this study, those who listened to Mozart had a higher average test score. As for the other study, they measured brain wave activity within college students two times, one time after they listened to a Mozart sonata and once after listening to no music. Lerch and Dr. Anderson stated that The EEG recordings were somewhat correlated with the students performance, as increased brain activity was associated with an increase in spatial reasoning performance after listening to the Mozart . After this research, the book The Mozart Effect: Tapping the Power of Music to Heal the Body, Strengthen the Mind and Unlock the Creative Spirt was written by Don Campbell in 2002. According to Donna Lerch and Dr. Thomas Anderson of The University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, his book claimed that listening to the music of Mozart could raise your intelligence quotient. As for Bob Duke s article, he discussed why we shouldn t base the whole reasoning for keeping music education on tests scores. Even if music may help raise tests scores or make students smarted, we should not be defending it in this way. Duke explains that if we continue to do this, we are basing the whole future of music education on test scores. In both Duke and I s opinions, there are so many other amazing reasons why we should continue music education, not just because it has the potential to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Machiavelli And William Shakespeare s View Of The King Shakespeare s view of the crown is that of royal incompetence, tyrannical behavior, and years of discontentment for the people being resided over. Richard II tells the story of a tyrannical king whose fate is sealed by a loyal noble, which was the typical way politics existed in sixteenth century England. Regicide and usurpers became a familiar aspect of this story, and the enemy is the one who has pledged their allegiance to the court. This is just a few of the pitfalls of the English government seen in this story, that ultimately led to Richard II s demise. In this play, he is matched against Henry Bolingbroke, a man who had a rightful claim on Richards life, a man who can only be described as a true Machiavellian. In The Prince, a set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This decision is sure to lead to his ruin because it was known to Bolingbroke and his father Gaunt, that the king was involved in the murder of Thomas of Woodstock. Shakespeare shows that a king who is merciful, is not industrious, instead very incompetent for not putting an end to both parties that know of his treachery. Shakespeare goes on the show that Richard does not take counsel from those who have the experience and knowledge to further his rule, much like when he decided to banish Mowbry and Bolingbroke, that decision was done by himself, without hearing any advice or taking heed of what the consequences might be. Even Gaunt had tried to help Richard even on his deathbed he says that his life s counsel would not hear but hoped that his death s sad tale may yet undeaf his ear (II.i pg 401).Machiavelli points out that a prince who inherits the throne, like Richard, is the most enabled to keep and maintain his power, he who has connections and had witnessed those who succeeded him, for it is a wise man ought always to follow the paths beaten by great men, and to imitate those who have been supreme (Machiavelli 28). Richard s arrogance and lack of rationality to heed the wise man s words are predictable, the steady progression of incompetence proves that England needs a Machiavellian rule, instead of one who prefers flatterers advice. • 4. Water Is An Important Factor That Affects Sorption Water is an important factor that affects sorption because when there is excess water or when water drains through soil from sources at the surface, adsorbed pesticide molecules can become unattached, or desorbed, and wash away to a new location (Rao, 1999). Just as degradation has a measure in the half life of a compound, sorption also has a measure in the partition coefficient (Koc), which is a ratio of pesticide concentration in a soil bound state versus dissolved in soil water (Rao, 1999). In fact, the solubility of a pesticide and its sorption on soil are inversely related; [in other words], increased solubility results in less sorption (Rao, 1999). Both sorption and degradation are effected by soil type and pH, both of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Volatilization is a means of major pesticide loss and its rate of loss can often exceeds that of degradation, runoff, or leaching (van der Werf, 1996). For example, in an Oregon study, soil samples 64km from any agriculture were found to have DDT residues, and in Saskatchewan, Canada, 20% of 2, 4 D iso octyl ester volatilized in 24 hours (Pimentel, 1995). Once in the atmosphere, pesticide residues can spread anywhere, even Antarctica (Pimentel, 1995). Large amounts of pesticides and organic compounds can be transported around the globe in the atmosphere, for example, in the atmosphere of the Netherlands, the amounts of BHC, DDT, and heptachlor were reported to be 4600, 1064, and 190 pg/m 3, respectively (Pimentel, 1995). Topography and Geology Topography and geology affect pesticide movement in as much as directing or transporting pesticides. Topography is very obvious, for example, if a field is right next to a river, it is much more likely for runoff to get into the river system, or if a field is in a low area not very far above the water table, pesticides are very likely to leach into the groundwater. On the other hand, a field could be high and dry and very far from any river or groundwater, but if it is hilly that can pose its own problems. As T. Y. Tong and Chen point out, surface runoff is an important source of non point pollution (Tong and Chen, 2002). Though it was pointed out by van der Werf that volatilization is the biggest source of ... No matter the structure, whether it be buildings, sentences, or model theories, the structure must be built on a solid foundation or the structure shall fall. This premise is set forth in the scriptures as well. Christ tells a story in Matthew 7:24 27 of two men who each built a house. One man built his foundation on rock while the other sets his foundation on sand. • 9. Similarities Between Dreams And Dreams One of the interesting differences between the two is that often, we are aware of watching a film, but not that we are in a dream, which is an important difference that can have interesting consequences for answering if a dream is a fiction. Lastly, Curry argues that in dreams we have a bi sociative character, meaning that we have both the sense of being in the dream and being a spectator in it, this is an interesting phenomenon, however, I think that this also exists in normal everyday experience in the form of reflexive awareness. By reflexive awareness, I mean that we can have an awareness that we are aware, so this phenomenon is not exclusive to dreams. Looking at the similarities between film and dreams is an interesting avenue to examine the question, but does not give a full enough evidence to show that dreams are indeed fictions, nor does it answer the question if a dream is even like a film, all it shows is that they have similarities. However, it is possible to think of a dream as a film, if you imagine a device that can record your dreams and then project it onto a screen and watch the dream on the screen then the dream would act as if it were a film, having the same similarities as mentioned above. But, there would also be a lot lost in the translation as well, such as the bi sociative character (Curry), and the ability to feel so much in a dream. But due to the ease in which it is possible to imagine a dream as a film, it strengthens the argument for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Hunting Deer Dogs Should Be Banned Many families in the world have pets they love and care for each day; however, how would the parents and children handle the killing of one of their adored pets while trying to harvest deer? Hunting deer with dogs is a very fast paced technique of hunting. Hunters line up in a horizontal line in the woods and wait patiently for the dogs to flush the deer into their sight. Hunters then shoot anything that runs out of the woods because if they wait too long to determine how mature the deer is, the deer will have already ran by them. Not only are young deer killed, but sometimes, the poor, innocent dogs are shot on accident and a hunter may be in the wrong place at the wrong time also. Hunting deer with dogs should be banned because it decreases the population, pressures the deer, and is dangerous for the hunters and the dogs. Hunting deer with dogs should be banned because it decreases the population. Hunters who hunt with dogs, commonly known as dog hunters, shoot any deer seen to provide food for their family. These hunters may use this method as the only way to provide meat on the table for their families. The dog hunters shoot young deer that other hunters who do not use this method would have waited to shoot until they have become mature enough. If dog hunters harvest any deer no matter the age or size, then the deer population will decrease because the deer will not be able to express the full maturity needed to reproduce. My other peers pursue their interests even when met with limited or mass amounts of resistance. These peers are among the most selfish in my mind because they refuse to let something they love go even if that person is not happy with them. Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine whether primary and secondary psychopaths had deficiencies in empathy, and was conducted by applying Levenson s SRPS and ToM test to a non institutionalized group. Studies show that psychopathic individuals have no deficiency with empathy, and support the first hypothesis of a negative correlation between primary psychopathy and empathy. The study doesn t support the second hypothesis of a negative correlation between secondary psychopathy and empathy, with no evidence to support this. The Association Between Primary Secondary Psychopathy and Cognitive Empathy The term psychopathy is described as a disorder characterized by callousness (Richell et al, 2003) and is more of a personality trait than a stereotype. Within the term psychopathy, there are different subtypes that divide both a primary and secondary psychopath. A primary psychopath is characterized by traits such as lack of remorse and manipulative. Secondary psychopaths are also associated with social anxiety and low self esteem (Ali, 2010), known to be more emotional. Both forms of psychopathy are deficient in cognitive empathy, the ability to understand and recognize others emotions. Triplicate groups of fish (initial body weight 2.30 g ± 0.01) were fed seven isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets formulated to contain 30 % crude protein and 19.70 kJ g 1 gross energy for 8 weeks. The control diet (CD) contained 22 % local FM and 30 % SBM, whereas in the other six diets, HFM replaced 33, 66 or 100 % of FM or SBM. The best weight gain (11.46), specific growth rate (3.14) and feed conversion ratio (1.24) of tilapia fry fed SBM33%, CD, FM33% and SBM66% diets were exhibited. Final body weight and protein retention increased in a linear pattern with increasing amino acids in the experimental diets with the exception of leucine and valine. The results indicated that good quality HFM can successfully replace FM or SBM by up to 33 and 66 %, respectively, in Nile tilapia fry diets without compromising growth and protein utilization. The results also support the benefits of combining different sources of plant and animal proteins in Nile tilapia diets. Keywords Hydrolyzed feather meal Fish meal Soybean meal ... Yet, Joseph lived beyond his circumstances. Joseph was a godly man who overcame terrible situations to be used by God in a mighty way. Over the years, Joseph would suffer many dramatic reversals of fortune. He overcame prison, abandonment, loneliness, and fear, until God ultimately placed him in a position to save his entire family and, indeed, all the progeny of Abraham. Though Joseph might not have been able to see it, God was always at work in His life. Indeed, through Joseph, God acted to preserve His covenant people. There are many lessons from the overcoming life of Joseph that Christians may take comfort in today. The first lesson is in overcoming betrayal. What did sibling rivalry look like in your family? Did you squabble over a favorite TV channel? Did you suspect mom and dad played favorites? Moreover, because Shinto does not explain the afterlife while Buddhism does, these two religions co existed in Japanese culture. Many people adapt to both religions belief system at the same time. Zen Buddhism became widely adapted by the samurais later on during the Warrior Period. Zen Buddhism focuses on the discipline of individuals, one of the many reasons why samurais are seen as very refined warriors. They are often portrayed as being able to sense an enemy s attacks before they actually happen. This is an exaggeration of a samurai s ability to concentrate and focus on a goal. The samurais often use a Zen Buddhism technique called Za Zen to help clear their mind. A practical religion, Zen Buddhism helps to enhance self discipline and improve one s self concentration. One of the teachings of Zen Buddhism is Bushin, meaning the clarification of the mind. A cleared mind allows the samurais to concentrate better on the task at hand and respond faster to enemies attacks, make Zen Buddhism a very attractive religion to these warriors. Martial arts in Japan today also stress the importance of concentration. However, Bushin no longer applies to solely concentration in combat, but to all forms of concentration. For example, practicing martial arts is said to effective for improving one s performance at work due to better concentration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Racial Zoning Research Paper Distinguished in chapters three and four of The Color of Law, racial zoning is a way for organizations to manipulate and control what neighborhoods African Americans and other ethnic minority groups reside in. Due to this, many of African Americans viewed racial zoning as a serious threat to their well being in the United States. With the help of Jim Crow laws, exclusionary zoning, and the On Your Own Home campaign, banks and real estate agents had provoked economic discrimination towards various ethnic minority groups. Furthermore, through the concepts of dysfunctionalism, social inequality, latent functionalism, and Eurocentrism as seen in The Real World, racial zoning has negatively affected African Americans from breaking out of what the world considers them to be. The reasoning for this stem back to the overall goal of keeping African Americans separate from whites. Now, however, without banks and real estate agents, urban communities do not have the same privilege as someone from a suburban household. This is viewed through the concepts of social inequality and Eurocentrism because of the unwillingness of whites; there is an unequal distribution of prestige regarding African American rights. In conclusion, African Americans were targeted for the ideology of racial zoning. Jim Crow laws, exclusionary zoning, and the On Your Own Home campaign, all helped support this ideology and furthermore established what concepts simulated these policies. • 23. Chicago Bulls Research Paper Being the team of the decade is a huge title to have. It sounds like it would be hard to obtain that title, but we see multiple different teams dominating the NBA during certain decades. The question why? is a good question to ask; it can all be traced back to certain star players that would dominate the league so much that they made certain teams a power house team. I believe that teams of the decade are not a real thing, but player of the decade is a better term to give someone and more deserving. In the 1990s, the team of the decade was the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls won six titles in eight years through 1990 to 1998 with the Houston Rockets winning the other two titles. This was the first dominate team to arise since the Boston Celtics in the 1950s. However, during the 1990 decade, there were eleven different teams that made it to the finals. This showed how strong the competition was in teams around the Bulls were. Consequently, this showed how dominate a certain super star was to dominate the league, since there was so many other great players playing during his prime like Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, and Hakeem Olajuwon. The Lakers were the team of the decade due to two undeniable star players, a big man and a shooter. Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O Neal made the Lakers the team they were. Ethical Theories used to justify Anglo American s Obligation to the ethical issue in Chilean Mines 2.1 Virtue Ethics: In virtue ethical theory, an individual is judged by his character rather than by his actions that may deviate from his normal behavior (Fraedrich, Ferrel and Ferrel, 2009). In Chile s case, application of virtue ethics justifies the following mishaps: Fairness: With Research gathered from the case study, contract workers are assigned much more dangerous tasks with great risks of injury towards their health i.e. the company uses these workers for a certain period of time and do away with them once younger stronger workers become available while protecting their full time staff with easier tasks and extra benefits ... • 30. Gender Stereotypes In The Rocky Horror Picture Show The Rocky Horror Picture Show is not so much a movie as more of a long running social phenomenon (Ebert). The interpretation of the film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was produced in 1975, opens the curtains to the cross on top of a church after being introduced to the characters by the huge, bright red lips. Promptly after the introduction the camera moves in a sensational gesture towards a just married couple that is walking to the front of the church with their wedding guests, carrying the traditional wedding ceremony of throwing the newly brides bouquet. The visual that is taken in this scene seems to be vital to the aspect behind the film, as it is showing how dull a wedding that carries the same tradition can be, especially since it is being related to the following scene at the castle of Dr. Frank n Furter. With the proximity of the heterosexual traditions and the events at the mansion, it is obvious this film is meant to draw into question the common gender stereotypes along with sexuality. The Rocky Horror Picture Show validates that gender roles and stereotypes are socially constructed and that there should not be any social stigma attached to personalities that cannot easily be identified as a male or female by using irony, the use of social practice, and more specifically through Dr. Fran n Furter s character. The Complex Variety and Uses of the Senecio Genus Senecio is a huge genus in the family Asteracea, which in turn is one of the biggest families: meaning Senecio is one of the most largest genus in the world with up to 3000 species found. (Voss, 1985) Since then, phylogeny has separated many members of the Senecio genus and reclassified them as Packera. However, Packera spp. are still complex, so much so that Robert Kowal discovered a new species on Isle Royal in Michigan in 2011, and aptly named it Packera insulae regalis. According to Kowal, The populations that are currently grouped under the name Packera paupercula do represent a motley lot that should be split into a handful of species. (personal communication, 8/1/2013) The plant P. paupercula, also known as Life Root or Balsam Ragwort, is a dwarf member of Alvar habitats reaching heights of two feet. The entire plant can be incredibly variable: basal leaves can range from medium to long petioled, and obovate to oblong or oblanceolate in shape. The margins are usually toothed with serrations that vary from lobed to pinnatified, and leaf apexes that are either blunt or tipped. Cauline leaves are individual to many, smaller, deeply serrated and partially to fully clasping the stem. P. paupercula is known for its pubescence, especially at the leaf axils. The golden inflorescence are capitate and more or less flat topped. As summer comes into full swing, the petals can be seen falling off one by one until poof a pappus and achene are all that remains. • 32. Essay on Duddy s Focus on Wealth In my opinion, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, a book written by Mordecai Richler, is ultimately about money. Simcha Kravitz, Duddy s grandfather, would tell Duddy as a child that a man without land is nobody. These words encouraged him to live his life in a manner in which he would do anything he could in order to obtain the land that a nobody would not possess. But Duddy does not solely focus his desires on land; instead, his goals are set on wealth in general. In order to acquire wealth, Duddy engages in acts of dishonesty and deceit. He does this by exploiting the weaknesses of his friends, such as Virgil Roseboro and Yvette Durelle, while completely disregarding the fact that by doing this, his dignity and ... Although this money help s Duddy purchase the remainder of his land, in the process he becomes a despised and wretched tyrant. Not only does this result in the annihilation of Duddy s friendship with Virgil, but also results in the loss of Yvette s respect for Duddy. It becomes quite obvious that Duddy did not value his friendships as much as he did his wealth, as if he did, he would ve earned money the proper way, as a waiter, and wouldn t have resorted to such ruthless acts in order to attain complacency. It s quite disappointing to learn how he would sacrifice the only loving relationship he ever had (with Yvette) just so he can obtain land. Normally, a person who lived a life devoid of love would be desperate to acquire it. However, Duddy still decided to pursue his dreams of owning land on the contrary to pursuing a loving relationship that his life was in need of. Come to think of it, Duddy s life has been morally derailed ever since he was a child. As a child, he took advantage of the fact that as a minor, he was not susceptible to lawsuits. He broke the law frequently in attempt to obtain more wealth. Such examples of this would include his fraudulent behaviour with stamp companies, his selling of stolen hockey sticks, and his distribution of pornographic comic books. These people are unable to get organs because there is not enough human organs for the people who need them. With this epidemic scientists and doctors turn to pigs for the answer. Pig organs are anatomically similar to humans, states surgeon C. Growth. The problem with pig to human xenotransplantation is that pigs contain proviruses, such as PERVs, that are harmful to humans.
