The document discusses different theories of first language acquisition:
[1] The behaviorist theory views language learning as imitation and habit formation through reinforcement of responses to stimuli.
[2] The nativist theory posits that humans are born with an innate language acquisition device that enables the learning of universal linguistic rules.
[3] The functional approach sees language development as dependent on cognitive development and social interaction, with children learning underlying structures and meanings through discourse.
This presentation contains the discussion of the different school of thoughts which speaks about how human beings acquired the language we speak of today. Leaving this here as aid to those who need it. Enjoy! :)

The Acculturation Model is a model of second language acquisition designed by John H. Schumann (1978) and it is based on the social-psychology of acculturation
Second language acquisition (SLA) is known to be a very important issue in the field of linguistics. It can take place in a natural setting or through formal instruction, and, although the degree of proficiency that can be attained is related to several factors, it may begin at childhood or at the adult age, ending with different results if starting in the former or the latter.

Stages of Acquisition of first LanguageJoel Acosta
Language acquisition is the process by which humans acquire the capacity to perceive and comprehend language, as well as to produce and use words to communicate. The capacity to successfully use language requires one to acquire a range of tools including syntax, phonetics, and an extensive vocabulary. This language might be vocalized as with speech or manual as in sign. The human language capacity is represented in the brain.
Theories of PSYCHOLINGUISTICS, Language acquisition, Noam Chomsky, Jean Piaget, F. B. Skinner, Innateness theory, Behaviorist theory, Cognitive theory.
This presentation will help you to get deeper understanding on how language is learned from 3 different perspectives, those are behaviorist, innatist, and interactionist. In this presetation you will also learn about language acquisition device (LAD).
The paper discussed in detail the process of language development and the process of language acquisition in early childhood. It also gave a brief overview of the theoretical frame of reference of language development. The paper included an in depth explanation of the importance and impact of overexposure for early second language acquisition and it answered the question of whether language learning could turn into a language acquisition after what Noam Chomsky referred to as the “critical period”. The paper concluded that even after the Chomskian critical period learners who got overexposed to the target language can acquire the language and it can be equivalent to their first language. The paper discussed two major kinds of motivations at play in the process of second language acquisition: (1) Curiosity: A desire to better understand a group of people and their way of life , and (2) Empathy: Upon repeated exposure, one might come to the conclusion that this group of people has a more sensible handle on things, and thus identifies with them.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2. QUOTE OF THE CASE
We are designed to walk…that
we are thought that walk is
impossible. And prety much
the same is tue of language.
Nobody is taught language. In
fact, you can’t prevent the
child to learning it.

7. THE THEORY OF FIRST LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
Behavioristic Position
Nativist Position
Functional Position
8. THE BEHAVIOURIST THEORY
AS A MATTER OF IMITATION AND HABIT FORMATION
Children continue to imitate and practice the words and
sentences until they form habits of correct usage
(Lightbown and Spada 1993:1).
9. BEHAVIOURIST THEORY
Individuals are born without built-in mental content and their knowledge
comes from experience and perception(tabula rasa).
Assumes a learner is essentially passive, responding to environmental
stimuli.
Behavior is shaped through positive reinforcement or negative
reinforcement.
Consider effective language behavior to be the production of correct
responses to stimuli. If a particular response is reinforced, it then
becomes habitual, or conditioned.
11. NATIVIST THEORY
We have an innate predisposition to learn language, and
learning is in our genetics.
According to Chomsky, this innate knowledge is embodied in
a little black box of sorts, a language acquisition device
(LAD).
All human beings are genetically equipped with the ability
that enables them to acquire language. (a system of
universal linguistic rules or Universal Grammar)
12. FUNCTIONAL APPROACH
Cognition and Language Development
Bloom found three possible underlying relationships: agent-
action, agent-object, and possessor-possessed.
In addition, he concluded that children learn underlying
structures, not superficial word order.
Piaget insisted that what children learn about language is
determined by what they already know about the world.
Dan Slobin demonstrated that semantic learning depends on
cognitive development.
13. FUNCTIONAL APPROACH
Social Interaction and Language Development
Social constructivist emphasized on the function of
language in discourse.
Discourse has a special meaning in that language is
used for interactive communication.
