Analysis Of Bolsa Familia Springs From A Long Tradition Of...
Bolsa Familia springs from a long tradition of welfare and development strategies in Latin America.
Economic and social development are of central concern to governments and development agencies
worldwide due to their direct link to equality. This can be explained through the well defined link
between income levels and health, education and nutritional outcomes, emphasizing the importance of
addressing inequality in order to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Thus, reducing
inequality is central to the success of policy initiatives, as the Bolsa Familia s strong focus on
developing human capital is what makes it a poverty reduction program rather than a social assistance
one (Fitzbein et al, 2009: 11). Targeting development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Figure 1: Social security, health, and education expenditure in Brazil
Source: Haggard and Kaufmann, 2008: 388.
Welfare can be defined as the minimum level of responsibility of the state for its citizens this is what I
will attribute to social security in Figure one. Welfare can be in the form of a steady base transfer, in
order to provide ongoing, or short term payments to alleviate financial hardship. In contrast, human
capital accumulation (HCA) can be attributed to investments in education and health (Figure 1). HCA
is the increased education, health and productivity of potential workers, to which social security is
only a precondition. It is a central driver of human and economic development. Thus, Bolsa Familia s
conditionality is what distinguishes it from a welfare scheme to a poverty assistance scheme.
Furthermore, the conditionality aspect of cash transfers is what assures requirements regarding human
capital accumulation will be met.
CCTs are a site of convergence of international and statist development policy initiatives, which are
played out at the community level by administrators and agents on the ground. Thus, Bolsa Familia is
led by governments, endorsed by the World Bank, and implemented by local authorities. CCTs are
seen as an alternative to more traditional and paternalistic approaches to social assistance (de la Briere
and Rawlings, 2006: 6). It is this level of decentralisation which contributes to their appeal on both the

How Have Families Changed Since The 1950 s
Families have definitely changed since the 1950 s. Fathers used to work and provide for the family.
Today, some fathers aren t even in their child s lives. I feel like people want what the TV show
families had, that aired in the 50 s. Fathers would make the money, while mothers would stay home,
take care of the kids, cook, clean and many other things. There are TV shows from the 50 s that show
what a family looked like back then. For example, Leave It to Beaver and Father Knows Best. Those
TV shows are completely different from TV shows about families today, like how they dressed, how
they talk, what the scenery/set look like. This topic intrigued me, because I used to watch a lot of TV
when I was younger. I would ask my grandparents why we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

You can see it through the TV that we watch. In the 1950 s, the families were so mature and
understanding of their kid s problems, helped them through them, and even go through tough
problems together. In 2018 on TV, it seems like the parents don t want to help the kids or even give
them attitude at times. Families on TV shows has changed over the years. I feel like if the directors
and producers would sit and watch a couple shows from the 50 s, maybe they would understand or
possibly change the TV show families in 2018. Add the typical families again. Some people would
quite enjoy that, I would and I know plenty others who would too. All my grandfather watches on TV
are reruns of Leave it to Beaver, M.A.S.H (which isn t about families much but still was made a long
time ago), I Love Lucy, and Gunsmoke (again not about families but he just enjoys them from back
then). We should bring back the old time TV shows about

The Influence of TV Advertisements on the Buying Behavior...
Introduction Advertisements are cost effective ways to disseminate messages with a view to build a
brand preference or to educate people (Kotler Keller, 2006). The majority of the marketers use mass
media for their marketing communications. The choice of media is dependent upon the nature of the
message and the intended target audience (Etzel et al, 2008). Television is generally acknowledged as
the most powerful advertising medium. The wide reach translates to low cost per exposure (Kotler
Keller, 2006). Over a longer period of time, the TV set has become a permanent fixture in all upper
and middle class households, and it is not uncommon even in the poorer society of urban areas and
rural households (Shah D Souza, 2008). India is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The television medium is the most attractive and important place to advertise (Chandok, 2005).
Selvaraj (2007) observed that 70% population of India constitutes rural sector. Thus, it can be said the
marketers and advertisers who are having eyes on this market, must perceive opportunities to target
rural consumers of India. Kaur and Kaur (2002) explored fashion awareness among rural and urban
adolescents. They observed that television is the most important media of information regarding
fashion awareness among rural and urban respondents. With the population of over one billion, India
is on the threshold of becoming one of the world s foremost consumer markets. About a quarter of this
huge mass of consumers is urbanized and about three quarter are rural (Sehrawet Kundu, 2007). Most
South Asian respondents consider advertisements pleasurable, informative and economically
beneficial (Ramaprasad, 2001). One can attribute positive attitude to India being an emerging market
where anything new is fit for consumption (Saxena, 2005). Rising per capita income, increasing
expenditure, shift from lower to middle and middle to upper income group, changing lifestyle,
changing consumption pattern, and changing aspirations are the new features of the Indian rural
market (Bijapurkar, 2000). The total market size of rural is 1,23,000 crore which includes 65,000 crore

Case name
Ashmore v. J.P. Thayer Co.
Citation
Ashmore v. J. P. Thayer Co., 303 F. Supp. 2d 1359 (M.D. Ga. 2004).
Statement of Facts
Marcus Ashmore and Terrell Lee Green were maintenance workers for J.P. Thayer Co., Inc. under
supervisor Gene Fye. After a particular incident of harassment on January 16, 2001, Plaintiffs reported
Fye to Tricia Johnson, the Assistant Property Manager. At this time, Johnson did nothing about the
complaint. The harassment continued, and on January 26, Plaintiffs complained to the Property
Manager, Mary Frances de Rivera. In response, de Rivera verbally reprimanded Fye. This, however,
did not stop Fye s harassment. Instead of reporting the behavior to Defendant, Plaintiffs hired an
attorney who wrote a letter to Defendant saying that Ashmore and Green were going to file charges of
discrimination with the EEOC. On February 22, Fye was fired by Defendant. This came three days
after getting the letter and about a month after the initial harassment complaints.
Procedural History
The Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. The
verdict of the jury found the Defendant liable and was in favor of the Plaintiffs. Defendant then filed a
motion for a new trial for judgment as a matter of law.
Issue Presented
Should J. P. Thayer Co., Inc. be held liable for the harassment of supervisor, Gene Fye.
Court s Holding:

Scamming Plan Research Paper
My Scamming Plan Drake had just hired me after I had left ExxonMobil. His dad had lent him enough
money to start a proper company but this was his last chance. He ordered me to find someplace in the
Everglades to drill oil because there was a newspaper saying that the government had bought the
drilling rights for oil. My boss s plan was to find oil in the everglades and then the government would
pay us a lot of money not to pump it. After a few months, I had gotten a six hundred forty acre lease
from someone named Vincent Trapwick Jr. It was known as Section 21 and I had hired some
geologists to see if there was any oil in there. After months of ground testing, I had come to the
conclusion that there was not enough oil in Section 21 to even ... Show more content on

and I agreed that I was a tax collector because he thought I was one. For some reason, he held my lips

finally let me go and I ran and took his son s backpack. I bought another butane torch from one of my
favorite hardware stores. I then put in in his bag and put it near a fire. Then, I said I found the
backpack and reported it to the fire investigators. Even though I had gotten that taken care of, I still
had a few more problems popping up everywhere. A few months later, some of my pipes went missing
so I got very angry. Even worse, Melton had been assaulted again and the flags that marked where the
pipes would be had been rearranged to spell the word SCAT. Drake and I were getting very very
annoyed. We decided to hire someone or get something to track whoever was doing this to us. We
were in luck. We found a dog handler who had a dog named Horace who was a trained manhunter.
Horace sniffed the flags and looked like he was on a trail. He ran away from us and the handler

Blindness In King Lear Essay
The Shakespearean tragedy, King Lear, is a significant play that explores the concept of blindness
whilst communicating the importance of the theme for the characters King Lear and Earl of
Gloucester. Blindness is in literary terms is defined as the inability of the eye to see, however in
Shakespeare s play blindness is perceived to be a mental flaw that people possess and is the catalyst
for false decisions that eventually place the two characters into emotions of despair and regret. In the
play, Lear s self delusion and his inability to determine between right or wrong and genuine or fake,
leads him to a remorseful state. The prominent theme of blindness is explored throughout the play and
in Act 1 Scene 1, responders are able to sight the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gloucester s two sons; the legitimate and righteous Edgar and the illegitimate, disguised devil ,
Edmund, both whom Gloucester loves equally however due to his bastard son, he is blinded and
misunderstands Edgar. This act of blindness can be sighted in Act 1, Scene 2 as Gloucester is blinded
by Edmond who had given him a letter that he wrote himself, but presents in Edgar s perspective.
Gloucester is speaking to his son Edmund in anger and shock as he did not expect another side to
Edgar. Without further investigating the situation, Gloucester immediately believes what Edmund tells
him and concludes that Edgar is a villain . Gloucester s failure to seek both sides of this story before
placing all his trust into Edmund s letter demonstrates how Gloucester blinds himself from the truth
through ignorance. Gloucester s misconception of the truth due to his lack of consideration causes him
to misconceive the true nature of both his sons. Through the use of repetition whilst cursing Edgar, it
is evident that Gloucester has concluded that his legitimate son, Edgar, is the villain , without any
further investigation. He states, O villain, villain! His very opinion in the letter! Abhorred villain!
Unnatural, detested, brutish villain! Worse than brutish! Go, sirrah, seek him. I ll appre hend him.
Abominable villain! Where is he? The repetitive use of villain , whilst Gloucester curses Edgar and
makes it clear that he has fallen into Edmond s deception. This also suggests Gloucester s gullibility,
which is his inability and mental flaw that Edmond deviously takes advantage of in seek of power.
The concept of blindness is explored in this scene between Gloucester and Edmund, making it evident
that placing trust in people can result in much suffering, which Shakespeare has

Challenger Case Summary
Challenger: A Question of Ethics.
Case Summary: It was an unusually cold day in Cape Canaveral, Florida and the space shuttle
Challenger was set for its tenth launch. After waiting five days from the original time it was supposed
to launch the decision was made to launch on January 28, 1986. This launch was a big deal not only
due to the fact that Christa McAuliffe would become the first teacher to go into space but because a
probe whose purpose was to examine Halley s Comet would beat a similar probe the Russians would
launch days later (TAMU engineering ethics Pg. 3 4). While the media highlighted the fact that an
ordinary school teacher would be going to space for the first time, the government felt that getting that

NASA was informed that they needed to realize that there was a disconnect between management and
their working engineers (Feynman Leighton Pg. 236). The public deserved for NASA to inform them
of what was happening and to know that NASA had changed their approach to the space shuttle
campaign. There had to be a change in schedule, there had to be an update in technology, and there
had to be a change in how design and application were approached (Feynman Leighton Pg. 236). All
Morton Thiokol did was suggest the addition of a third O ring and did not seek to improve the current
design or find better materials for the seal. However, they took responsibility for their part and their
data that had not been tested enough. It was also their responsibility to pay retribution for the accident
as well as accept any and all liability charges. NASA should have taken some of the liability due to the
fact that it was essentially their final decision to launch the shuttle despite all of the evidence against
so doing. The managers that made the decision to launch should have been held accountable for the
lives of the astronauts. Mr. Malloy and Mr. Hardy should have been taken to trial for homicide but,
due to the scope and fact that it was the fault of multiple people and companies, they were never tried.
However, they gave the go for the launch so they should have at least been fired from NASA and have

Multiculturalism In The Brady Bunch And Modern Families
What is Multiculturalism? Multiculturalism is the presence of distinct cultural or ethnic groups within
a society. Multiculturalism plays a big part in teenagers as well as adults life s. For example the two tv
shows The Brady Bunch and Modern Family have different cultural lenses and cultures causing them
to view multiculturalism as well as diversity in different perspectives.
The Brady Bunch is a show that came about in the late 60 s. The Brady Bunch is about a man named
Brady with three sons meets a woman named Carol with three children of her own. This man and
woman get married making them one big happy family, with a maid to help out. Living in a four
bedroom two bath house in the suburbs, having boy problems and sharing bathrooms. The Brady
Bunch family culture is having a maid to take care of the children. This can be a culture that the
parents received when they were younger, passing it onto their children. Another culture that The
Brady Bunch have is being close to one another. For example if one of the children are dealing with a
situation they would talk to their parent s or a sibling about it. The Brady Bunch family don t hide
their situations. They can also be labeled as close because they eat dinner together at the table like the
typical white american family. Another culture that The Brady Bunch have is having consequences for
their actions. For example in one of the episodes the oldest son did not do what he said he was going
to do so in return his parents

Okonkwo And Exile
In Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe explains the positive and negative aspects of colonization.
Specifically, he explains the events that happen in Igbo villages and how culture plays a big role in
every particular action. Throughout the novel, Achebe explains the main character Okonkwo, who is
concerned about his reputation, never wants to be described as a weak person in his village. In Igbo
villages, if you commit a serious crime such as murder, you are forced to enter exile and in this case,
Okonkwo enters exile for an accidental disobedience. In order to be placed into exile, Okonkwo must

The Collapse Of The Soviet Empire And Its Hegemony
We often overlook the real causes of the downfall of the Soviet empire and its hegemony, and simply
tie it to the fact that they were communist, dictatorial regimes. However, this is not entirely true. There
were many factors that resulted in the demise of this socialist conglomerate, and East Germany in
particular. The GDR was a special case in that it was racked by some of the worst economic
circumstances that any of the Eastern bloc faced, and as result, became the first to fall. Such
assumptions compel us to draw equivalencies between the GDR and other communist countries like
Yugoslavia, even though East Germany was at a much more disadvantageous position. The East
German military also had to provide the bulk of the non Soviet forces in all Warsaw Pact military
plans. This forced the GDR government to forcibly conscript large numbers of their population and
spend vast quantities of their funds on military hardware. These elements combined to start the GDR
on a slippery slope towards default, and economic turmoil. The first aspect that I will focus on is the
grossly disproportionate amount of money that the East German government spent on its military
capacity. Initially, the USSR was the only military force in postwar East Germany. The Soviets
forbade the new communist state an armed forces, but as the costs of keeping up a substantial
presence began to add up, the Soviet military took notice. Beginning in the mid 1950s, the Nationale

Contextualization affects the way theology is expressed. During the 19th and 20th centuries the

words, the concentration of hydrogen ions goes up the the further doe the pH scale you go. Bases are
any substance that accepts hydrogen ions in aqueous solution. Again, the more basic it is the lower the

Cromwell s Responsibility For Expansions And Effectiveness...
Cromwell s Responsibility For Expansions And Effectiveness Of Government Between 1530 and
1539
The most influential and controversial thesis concerning Cromwell s role in the revolution in
government in the 1530s was Elton s The Tudor Revolution in Government . In this work, Elton asses
Cromwell as the most remarkable revolutionary in English history. . Elton argued that Cromwell
seized the unique opportunity presented by Henry VIII s martial problems to turn England into a
unified, independent sovereign state, ruled by a constitutional monarch through national and
bureaucratic institutions. This is certainly true to an extent however it could be argued that these
changes were reactionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The appointments of both the Earl of Norfolk and Charles Brandon, Earl of Suffolk, seem indicative
of a politically and religiously conservative council. These facts obviously take responsibility for these
changes away from Cromwell.
The importance of the executive Privvy Council is that it gave drive and continuity to royal
government owing to the stability of its membership no longer did the impetus need to come from the
monarch or chief minister. This would be particularly important after Cromwell s downfall in the
1540s, when Henry did not allow another Cromwell to emerge and his powers were failing, and even
more after 1547 when Edward VI was a boy, succeeded by two women. The Privvy Council took over
responsibility for the executive. It had certainly taken over the management of the day to day business
on behalf of the monarch by Elizabeth s reign, but it is most doubtful that this occurred in the 1530s or
that Cromwell planned it.
Several other objections have been raised to Elton s assessment of the development of the Privvy
Council. Elton argued that Cromwell was able by the reorganisation of the haphazard medieval
Council into a more formally constituted board of government; and by the promotion of the principal
secretary (himself) to get himself appointed the chief executive and co ordinating minister. Rather than
judging it to be part of Cromwell s plan to

Guernica By Pablo Picasso
Guernica Guernica was painted in 1937 by Pablo Picasso. It stands at 11 6 tall and 25 6 wide and is
considered one of the most powerful paintings ever created. The work depicts the bombing of the city
Guernica in Spain. The painting is a great piece of art because of its symbolism, solemn mood, and it
contains many artistic elements. Don t change sentence structure at the end. Change contains many
artistic elements to fit in with the rest of the list.
Tensions were high in 1937 in Europe with World War Two on the rise. Spain was controlled by
Francisco Franco, a friend of Hitler. Picasso was born in Spain and was devastated to see it be ruled by
a fascist who has taken over the country. Hitler, preparing for a world war, was making new weapons
and asked Franco if he could test them on a spanish city. On April 26, 1937, the German Condor
Legion bombed the city of Guernica in Northern Spain, all with the permission of Franco. The
bombing killed over a thousand people and left the world shocked. Picasso s oil painting on canvas
captures both the reactions of the public and the pain of the innocent civilians who died. Guernica was
originally panned by critics in the world. Many people criticized Picasso s style of painting the event;
calling it an unrealistic painting, and a dream of a madman. Actually, most people wouldn t have
known that the painting was about the bombing if there wasn t a title. This is because Picasso had a
very abstract style with a lot of

Voltaire s Candide
Voltaire s Candide Denouncing Providence
Eighteenth century France was ruled by the divine power of Louis le XIV, the regime of absolutisme
followed, restricting the liberties and creating a corrupt society founded on providence and religious
determinism. Les Philosophes des Lumières notably Voltaire instilled logic and reason to combat
theological and metaphysical solutions surrounding French populations whilst pushing for a separation
between the Catholic church and the state. Voltaire, also known as François Marie Arouet (1964 1778)
wrote Candide as an objection to many optimistic philosopher s theories surrounding providence and
human will. His main purpose in Candide was to ridicule a German optimistic philosopher known as

The reference to the devastating earthquake demonstrates that misfortunes can happen to innocent
people and philosophizing that we live in the best possible worlds (i.e not acting for one s self) is no
solution or way to live a progressive life or to avert such tragedies, thus he denounces that acting for
one s self is a better option. There is nothing moral about the earthquake hence, there is certainly no
justification for such a disaster. Pangloss is demonstrating blind optimism as he states everything is for
the best, even in situations as dreadful as this, ridiculing Leibniz theory of providence. Catriona Seth

Parenting Style

Developmental Psychology
10/2/12
I think so many factors influence parenting. I would like to start this off with one of the most
important factors I think that influence parenting, and that is having a child unplanned and not being
ready for it versus planning for a child and being ready for it.
I am a little old fashioned when it comes to certain things and especially when I think of how I would
raise my child. I do not have one, and I am a lesbian. I am not sure when I will have one, but I want to
with a potential partner, hopefully she can carry or we can adopt as well. When I say I am a little old
fashioned I guess I am referring to how I would raise my child. When I see the way my friends act ...

It s the parent s job to stay on top of things like that, so the children don t end up watching anything
bad. I also think some children play electronics too much, there is nothing wrong with them playing it
by all means, but I think some parents stick them on it so they don t have to deal with them.
Another big issue is many parents get mad at their children because when it s during the school
season, some young children don t like to do homework. When I was younger my dad taught me my
alphabets, math, emergency numbers, and address at a very young age. My dad always bought me
coloring books, pencils, and papers to keep me busy. We had a Nintendo system, but I barely used it.
Even though my parents didn t speak English or learn the things I did in school they would still try
their best to help me or find me help. People cannot expect for their children to love studying and
working with school materials if you don t support them and work with them. When I have my child, I
plan to paint and color with them all the time. It s so important to be active with children especially
when they are young and their brains are developing.
Communication and patience is the key with children. Also the right amount of emotion and love is
very important. I know raising children is not easy that s why it s not meant for everyone. And
planning ahead I think makes a huge difference. My friends tell me when I talk about what I would do

Pope Urban 2 Persuasive Essay
There are many reasons Pope Urban II has decided to partake in this necessary crusade against the
Muslims. Some of his reasoning stems from Christianity s current teachings. For example, the New
Testament reveals Jesus had said to bring not peace, but the sword (Matt 10:34). Apart from God s
input, the Pope must follow the Just War Theory for a crusade to become valid. In order to consider a
crusade as righteous, it must have a high probability of success, the right intention, a just cause,
exhausted all peaceful alternatives, an assessment of proportionality and an official declaration of war
from Pope Urban II. In general, this crusade has a high probability of success because God is on
Christianity s side and there is a large response from fellow Christians. According to Roman ... Show

For instance, the Muslims are occupying Christian territory and threatening New Christian settlements
in the Baltic region including the Byzantine empire (Riley Smith 2005). In order to avoid further
damage to Christianity, the Pope has to partake in a defensive war. If he does not, Muslims could
continue to claim Christain regions resulting in the extinction of Christianity. In general, these heretics
do not have a deep rooted religious or historical connection with the Jerusalem. For example, most of
the stories in the Christian Bible take place in Jerusalem. Even Christianity s lord and savior is said to
have lived and died in Jerusalem. Therefore, Muslims are not entitled to that piece of land. At the
same time, heretics in Languedoc are rebelling against the church and are consistently denying their
responsibilities to teach others about Christ (Riley Smith 2005). If people are not taught about Jesus,
they will not have a place in heaven. The crusade s purpose is not only to unite Christians with

How does the Theme of religion influence events in the merchant of Venice?
Religion is one of the main theme in the merchant of Venice and it plays a big role in the play.
Different characters have different religions. The main religions in this play is Christianity and
Judaism. The main Christian characters are Antonio, Bassanio and Portia. The main Jewish character
is Shylock.
In the beginning of the play, Bassanio wants to go to Belmont to try to marry Portia. Realizing that he
does not have any money to compete with all of those men, decides to borrow three thousand ducats

Bassanio is then able to meet up with Portia and then they fall in love and plan to get married. The
only problem is, 3 months passed by and Antonio isn t able to pay back the money to Shylock. As a
result of that, Shylock is extremely furious now, not only because his is not getting his money back,
but because his daughter Jessica, who is always kept at the Jew s house, has run away with her
Christian lover Lorenzo; he cannot be more angry about that, because losing his daughter is the worst
thing that can possibly happen to him, and the fact that he has escaped with a Christian makes him
even angrier since he hates Christians and seeing his daughter with one of them is the worst of the
insults for him and his religious believes as well.
When Bassanio came back and tell Antonio that he was going to marry his beloved Portia and that she
will pay for the loan, the Jew is so blinded with wrath that he is determined to take Antonio s pound of
flesh. He could have taken the money, even the double amount of money that he was asking for
initially, since Portia was willing to pay him more, but he did not want that, he preferred his pound of
flesh, he preferred to see the Christian dead in such way he could take revenge of the Christian man
who stole his daughter, because for Shylock his daughter was just another of his

What Is The Similarities Between The Lamb And The Tyger
The Lamb and The Tyger William Blake, a prominent poet in the late 1800s, wrote some of the most
meaningful pieces that are still looked at today by many. Poems are unique because they must arrive
to the point while also compacting all of the necessary literary devices needed for a concise message.
William Blake does just this especially in his contrasting poems The Lamb and The Tyger. The poems
The Tyger and The Lamb along with their literary devices coexist in order to create romanticism and
to convey William Blake s important contrasting messages of innocence and power. In the poem The
Lamb, the principal theme is innocence. The picture in the poem displays a young naked boy speaking
to a lamb. Both the lamb and the child represent innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is documented that Blake had raw talent in coloring and writing. Not only did he show such rare
potential at a young age, he also claimed to have several supernatural visions. Almost every poem he
has written involves a higher being perhaps because of his miraculous visions that he has experienced.
His most famous poems contrast each other in that they talk about completely different things. Blake s
songs of innocence go in depth in describing our existence and how nature is more related to ourselves
than we think. William Blake s other poems deal with a different perspective that involves the loss of
innocence and power. Blake wrote these contrasting poems in order to teach readers and scholars the
important relationships they have with each other. The Tyger for instance is a poem that deals with
power and corruption. The Lamb is a poem that makes us readers ponders the most basic unanswered
human questions. Naturally many view a lamb as weak, and I think that the author did this in order for
him to tell his message.
The Tyger by many is viewed as a poem that deals with God s other characteristics. God is viewed as
merciful in the Lamb, however, in the Tyger, God is viewed more along the lines of the immense
power he possesses. The Tyger naturally is a creature of power because of the strength it

Theme Of Good And Evil In A Separate Peace
As said by Eric Burdon, Inside each of us, there is a seed of good and evil. It s a constant struggle as
to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other. In A Separate Peace by John Knowles
good and evil are present throughout the book. This quote supports the themes of A Separate Peace
because Gene and Finny struggle with the decision between good and evil and are affected by those
decisions, along with the characters themselves being similar to good and evil.
Gene and Finny are faced with many situations where either good or evil will take over their decision.
When Finny falls of the tree Gene took a step toward him, and then [his] knees bent and [he] jounced
the limb (Knowles 60). Gene purposefully makes Finny fall even if neither of them realizes or accepts
it at first. When Gene makes the decision to cause Finny to fall, he lets evil win. He lets it take him
over to benefit himself in the long run. On the other side of it, when Gene tries to tell Finny that he did
intentionally hurt him he said of course you didn t do it. You damn fool. Sit down, you damn fool
(Knowles 70). Finny does not want to accept the fact that his friend would do such a thing to him. He
pushes out the evil that could have let him lash out at his friend and let the good in him refuse to
believe it. Lastly, when Gene was fighting with Quackenbush all of a sudden Gene hit him hard across
the face (Knowles 790). Gene lets the evil take over him and hit Quackenbush in the

in fashionable areas. Our recommendation to address this new strategy is: * Decrease our structure
costs. We need to renegotiate with our suppliers. They need to understand that if we do not reduce our

Modernization and Dependency Theory
Modernization and Dependency theory
Nowadays the rapid development of the word and the growing integration of countries can hardly fail
to affect the development of new theories which attempt to explain the relationship between countries
and the existing inequality between developed countries and countries of the third world. In this
respect, it is possible to refer to Modernization theory and Dependency theory which, being quite
different, still have certain similarities in their views on the modern world and relationships between
developed and developing countries.
It is worthy of mention that the comparison of these theories will help better understand the current

In fact, differences between Modernization theory and Dependency theory result from the origin of
Dependency theory which, as it has been already mentioned above, was developed in response to
Modernization theory. On analyzing existing differences between the two theories, first of all, it is
necessary to underline that Modernization theory views the development of the world and
relationships between developed and developing countries as the relationships of potentially equal
countries which are just at a different stage of development at the moment. To put it more precisely,
Modernization theory stands on the ground that western countries are well developed and western way
of development is viewed as the most successful and perspective while there is practically no other
alternatives to this way of the development. This is why the supporters of this theory insist on the
necessity to develop the cooperation between developed and developing countries in order to make the
latter closer to the former. What is meant here is the fact that Modernization theory underlines the
necessity of borrowing the experience of western countries by developing countries of the Third world
(Scott 196). Basically, developing countries should follow blindly the example of more developed
western countries and this will bring them economic, social, and

  • 2. Analysis Of Bolsa Familia Springs From A Long Tradition Of... Bolsa Familia springs from a long tradition of welfare and development strategies in Latin America. Economic and social development are of central concern to governments and development agencies worldwide due to their direct link to equality. This can be explained through the well defined link between income levels and health, education and nutritional outcomes, emphasizing the importance of addressing inequality in order to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Thus, reducing inequality is central to the success of policy initiatives, as the Bolsa Familia s strong focus on developing human capital is what makes it a poverty reduction program rather than a social assistance one (Fitzbein et al, 2009: 11). Targeting development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Figure 1: Social security, health, and education expenditure in Brazil Source: Haggard and Kaufmann, 2008: 388. Welfare can be defined as the minimum level of responsibility of the state for its citizens this is what I will attribute to social security in Figure one. Welfare can be in the form of a steady base transfer, in order to provide ongoing, or short term payments to alleviate financial hardship. In contrast, human capital accumulation (HCA) can be attributed to investments in education and health (Figure 1). HCA is the increased education, health and productivity of potential workers, to which social security is only a precondition. It is a central driver of human and economic development. Thus, Bolsa Familia s conditionality is what distinguishes it from a welfare scheme to a poverty assistance scheme. Furthermore, the conditionality aspect of cash transfers is what assures requirements regarding human capital accumulation will be met. CCTs are a site of convergence of international and statist development policy initiatives, which are played out at the community level by administrators and agents on the ground. Thus, Bolsa Familia is led by governments, endorsed by the World Bank, and implemented by local authorities. CCTs are seen as an alternative to more traditional and paternalistic approaches to social assistance (de la Briere and Rawlings, 2006: 6). It is this level of decentralisation which contributes to their appeal on both the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Have Families Changed Since The 1950 s Families have definitely changed since the 1950 s. Fathers used to work and provide for the family. Today, some fathers aren t even in their child s lives. I feel like people want what the TV show families had, that aired in the 50 s. Fathers would make the money, while mothers would stay home, take care of the kids, cook, clean and many other things. There are TV shows from the 50 s that show what a family looked like back then. For example, Leave It to Beaver and Father Knows Best. Those TV shows are completely different from TV shows about families today, like how they dressed, how they talk, what the scenery/set look like. This topic intrigued me, because I used to watch a lot of TV when I was younger. I would ask my grandparents why we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You can see it through the TV that we watch. In the 1950 s, the families were so mature and understanding of their kid s problems, helped them through them, and even go through tough problems together. In 2018 on TV, it seems like the parents don t want to help the kids or even give them attitude at times. Families on TV shows has changed over the years. I feel like if the directors and producers would sit and watch a couple shows from the 50 s, maybe they would understand or possibly change the TV show families in 2018. Add the typical families again. Some people would quite enjoy that, I would and I know plenty others who would too. All my grandfather watches on TV are reruns of Leave it to Beaver, M.A.S.H (which isn t about families much but still was made a long time ago), I Love Lucy, and Gunsmoke (again not about families but he just enjoys them from back then). • 4. The Influence of TV Advertisements on the Buying Behavior... Introduction Advertisements are cost effective ways to disseminate messages with a view to build a brand preference or to educate people (Kotler Keller, 2006). The majority of the marketers use mass media for their marketing communications. The choice of media is dependent upon the nature of the message and the intended target audience (Etzel et al, 2008). Television is generally acknowledged as the most powerful advertising medium. The wide reach translates to low cost per exposure (Kotler Keller, 2006). Over a longer period of time, the TV set has become a permanent fixture in all upper and middle class households, and it is not uncommon even in the poorer society of urban areas and rural households (Shah D Souza, 2008). India is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The television medium is the most attractive and important place to advertise (Chandok, 2005). Selvaraj (2007) observed that 70% population of India constitutes rural sector. Thus, it can be said the marketers and advertisers who are having eyes on this market, must perceive opportunities to target rural consumers of India. Kaur and Kaur (2002) explored fashion awareness among rural and urban adolescents. They observed that television is the most important media of information regarding fashion awareness among rural and urban respondents. With the population of over one billion, India is on the threshold of becoming one of the world s foremost consumer markets. About a quarter of this huge mass of consumers is urbanized and about three quarter are rural (Sehrawet Kundu, 2007). Most South Asian respondents consider advertisements pleasurable, informative and economically beneficial (Ramaprasad, 2001). One can attribute positive attitude to India being an emerging market where anything new is fit for consumption (Saxena, 2005). Rising per capita income, increasing expenditure, shift from lower to middle and middle to upper income group, changing lifestyle, changing consumption pattern, and changing aspirations are the new features of the Indian rural market (Bijapurkar, 2000). • 6. Marcus Ashmore And Terrell Lee Green Were Maintenance... Case name Ashmore v. J.P. Thayer Co. Citation Ashmore v. J. P. Thayer Co., 303 F. Supp. 2d 1359 (M.D. Ga. 2004). Statement of Facts Marcus Ashmore and Terrell Lee Green were maintenance workers for J.P. Thayer Co., Inc. under supervisor Gene Fye. After a particular incident of harassment on January 16, 2001, Plaintiffs reported Fye to Tricia Johnson, the Assistant Property Manager. At this time, Johnson did nothing about the complaint. The harassment continued, and on January 26, Plaintiffs complained to the Property Manager, Mary Frances de Rivera. In response, de Rivera verbally reprimanded Fye. This, however, did not stop Fye s harassment. Instead of reporting the behavior to Defendant, Plaintiffs hired an attorney who wrote a letter to Defendant saying that Ashmore and Green were going to file charges of discrimination with the EEOC. On February 22, Fye was fired by Defendant. This came three days after getting the letter and about a month after the initial harassment complaints. Procedural History The Plaintiffs filed a lawsuit at the United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia. The verdict of the jury found the Defendant liable and was in favor of the Plaintiffs. Defendant then filed a motion for a new trial for judgment as a matter of law. Issue Presented Should J. P. Thayer Co., Inc. be held liable for the harassment of supervisor, Gene Fye. Court s Holding: The Court ruled in favor of the Defendant. Therefore, the Defendant isn t liable to ... He ordered me to find someplace in the Everglades to drill oil because there was a newspaper saying that the government had bought the drilling rights for oil. My boss s plan was to find oil in the everglades and then the government would pay us a lot of money not to pump it. After a few months, I had gotten a six hundred forty acre lease from someone named Vincent Trapwick Jr. It was known as Section 21 and I had hired some geologists to see if there was any oil in there. I bought another butane torch from one of my favorite hardware stores. I then put in in his bag and put it near a fire. Then, I said I found the backpack and reported it to the fire investigators. Even though I had gotten that taken care of, I still had a few more problems popping up everywhere. A few months later, some of my pipes went missing so I got very angry. Even worse, Melton had been assaulted again and the flags that marked where the pipes would be had been rearranged to spell the word SCAT. Drake and I were getting very very annoyed. We decided to hire someone or get something to track whoever was doing this to us. We were in luck. We found a dog handler who had a dog named Horace who was a trained manhunter. Horace sniffed the flags and looked like he was on a trail. He ran away from us and the handler shouted his name. We reported the bad news to Drake ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Blindness In King Lear Essay The Shakespearean tragedy, King Lear, is a significant play that explores the concept of blindness whilst communicating the importance of the theme for the characters King Lear and Earl of Gloucester. Blindness is in literary terms is defined as the inability of the eye to see, however in Shakespeare s play blindness is perceived to be a mental flaw that people possess and is the catalyst for false decisions that eventually place the two characters into emotions of despair and regret. In the play, Lear s self delusion and his inability to determine between right or wrong and genuine or fake, leads him to a remorseful state. The prominent theme of blindness is explored throughout the play and in Act 1 Scene 1, responders are able to sight the ... Gloucester s two sons; the legitimate and righteous Edgar and the illegitimate, disguised devil , Edmund, both whom Gloucester loves equally however due to his bastard son, he is blinded and misunderstands Edgar. This act of blindness can be sighted in Act 1, Scene 2 as Gloucester is blinded by Edmond who had given him a letter that he wrote himself, but presents in Edgar s perspective. Gloucester is speaking to his son Edmund in anger and shock as he did not expect another side to Edgar. Without further investigating the situation, Gloucester immediately believes what Edmund tells him and concludes that Edgar is a villain . Gloucester s failure to seek both sides of this story before placing all his trust into Edmund s letter demonstrates how Gloucester blinds himself from the truth through ignorance. Gloucester s misconception of the truth due to his lack of consideration causes him to misconceive the true nature of both his sons. Through the use of repetition whilst cursing Edgar, it is evident that Gloucester has concluded that his legitimate son, Edgar, is the villain , without any further investigation. He states, O villain, villain! His very opinion in the letter! Abhorred villain! Unnatural, detested, brutish villain! Worse than brutish! Go, sirrah, seek him. I ll appre hend him. Abominable villain! Where is he? The repetitive use of villain , whilst Gloucester curses Edgar and makes it clear that he has fallen into Edmond s deception. This also suggests Gloucester s gullibility, which is his inability and mental flaw that Edmond deviously takes advantage of in seek of power. The concept of blindness is explored in this scene between Gloucester and Edmund, making it evident that placing trust in people can result in much suffering, which Shakespeare has ... • 15. The Collapse Of The Soviet Empire And Its Hegemony We often overlook the real causes of the downfall of the Soviet empire and its hegemony, and simply tie it to the fact that they were communist, dictatorial regimes. However, this is not entirely true. There were many factors that resulted in the demise of this socialist conglomerate, and East Germany in particular. The GDR was a special case in that it was racked by some of the worst economic circumstances that any of the Eastern bloc faced, and as result, became the first to fall. Such assumptions compel us to draw equivalencies between the GDR and other communist countries like Yugoslavia, even though East Germany was at a much more disadvantageous position. The East German military also had to provide the bulk of the non Soviet forces in all Warsaw Pact military plans. This forced the GDR government to forcibly conscript large numbers of their population and spend vast quantities of their funds on military hardware. These elements combined to start the GDR on a slippery slope towards default, and economic turmoil. The first aspect that I will focus on is the grossly disproportionate amount of money that the East German government spent on its military capacity. Initially, the USSR was the only military force in postwar East Germany. The Soviets forbade the new communist state an armed forces, but as the costs of keeping up a substantial presence began to add up, the Soviet military took notice. This would be particularly important after Cromwell s downfall in the 1540s, when Henry did not allow another Cromwell to emerge and his powers were failing, and even more after 1547 when Edward VI was a boy, succeeded by two women. The Privvy Council took over responsibility for the executive. It had certainly taken over the management of the day to day business on behalf of the monarch by Elizabeth s reign, but it is most doubtful that this occurred in the 1530s or that Cromwell planned it. Some of his reasoning stems from Christianity s current teachings. For example, the New Testament reveals Jesus had said to bring not peace, but the sword (Matt 10:34). Apart from God s input, the Pope must follow the Just War Theory for a crusade to become valid. What Is The Similarities Between The Lamb And The Tyger The Lamb and The Tyger William Blake, a prominent poet in the late 1800s, wrote some of the most meaningful pieces that are still looked at today by many. Poems are unique because they must arrive to the point while also compacting all of the necessary literary devices needed for a concise message. William Blake does just this especially in his contrasting poems The Lamb and The Tyger. The poems The Tyger and The Lamb along with their literary devices coexist in order to create romanticism and to convey William Blake s important contrasting messages of innocence and power. In the poem The Lamb, the principal theme is innocence. The picture in the poem displays a young naked boy speaking to a lamb. Both the lamb and the child represent innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is documented that Blake had raw talent in coloring and writing. Not only did he show such rare potential at a young age, he also claimed to have several supernatural visions. Almost every poem he has written involves a higher being perhaps because of his miraculous visions that he has experienced. His most famous poems contrast each other in that they talk about completely different things. Blake s songs of innocence go in depth in describing our existence and how nature is more related to ourselves than we think. William Blake s other poems deal with a different perspective that involves the loss of innocence and power. Blake wrote these contrasting poems in order to teach readers and scholars the important relationships they have with each other. The Tyger for instance is a poem that deals with power and corruption. The Lamb is a poem that makes us readers ponders the most basic unanswered human questions. Naturally many view a lamb as weak, and I think that the author did this in order for him to tell his message. The Tyger by many is viewed as a poem that deals with God s other characteristics. God is viewed as merciful in the Lamb, however, in the Tyger, God is viewed more along the lines of the immense power he possesses. The Tyger naturally is a creature of power because of the strength it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Theme Of Good And Evil In A Separate Peace As said by Eric Burdon, Inside each of us, there is a seed of good and evil. It s a constant struggle as to which one will win. And one cannot exist without the other. In A Separate Peace by John Knowles good and evil are present throughout the book. This quote supports the themes of A Separate Peace because Gene and Finny struggle with the decision between good and evil and are affected by those decisions, along with the characters themselves being similar to good and evil. Gene and Finny are faced with many situations where either good or evil will take over their decision. When Finny falls of the tree Gene took a step toward him, and then [his] knees bent and [he] jounced the limb (Knowles 60). Gene purposefully makes Finny fall even if neither of them realizes or accepts it at first. When Gene makes the decision to cause Finny to fall, he lets evil win. He lets it take him over to benefit himself in the long run. On the other side of it, when Gene tries to tell Finny that he did intentionally hurt him he said of course you didn t do it. You damn fool. Sit down, you damn fool (Knowles 70). Finny does not want to accept the fact that his friend would do such a thing to him. He pushes out the evil that could have let him lash out at his friend and let the good in him refuse to believe it. Lastly, when Gene was fighting with Quackenbush all of a sudden Gene hit him hard across the face (Knowles 790). Gene lets the evil take over him and hit Quackenbush in the ... In fact, differences between Modernization theory and Dependency theory result from the origin of Dependency theory which, as it has been already mentioned above, was developed in response to Modernization theory. On analyzing existing differences between the two theories, first of all, it is necessary to underline that Modernization theory views the development of the world and relationships between developed and developing countries as the relationships of potentially equal countries which are just at a different stage of development at the moment. To put it more precisely, Modernization theory stands on the ground that western countries are well developed and western way of development is viewed as the most successful and perspective while there is practically no other alternatives to this way of the development. This is why the supporters of this theory insist on the necessity to develop the cooperation between developed and developing countries in order to make the latter closer to the former. What is meant here is the fact that Modernization theory underlines the necessity of borrowing the experience of western countries by developing countries of the Third world (Scott 196). Basically, developing countries should follow blindly the example of more developed western countries and this will bring them economic, social, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
