Comparing Emerson And Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson says There is a time in every man s education when he arrives at the conviction
that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide. This quote is immensely true you should always be
true to yourself and you shouldn t envy people you don t really know that much about. You should
stay true to yourself because if you want to imitate someone who are killing yourself figuratively.
How is your inner self alive if you don t display it no one knows who you really are so your soul is
dead to others. They would just see that you are like everyone else or like someone else in particular
and then you will be compared to the other person which isn t what people usually want. If someone
were to compare you to someone and you are just off there in the corner hearing this and they are
saying blah blah he s/she s exactly like so and so and you are just like no I m me , but you have no
proof because what they are saying is true. Your inner self would never be known to people if you like
to hide away and just do what it is popular they we ll see you as just no one special and everyone
wants to have something different about them that s what makes people awesome there is not two of
the same exact people, so why would you want to strive to be exactly like another person. ... Show

COPD Case Study
Based on the symptoms of exacerbation of COPD, we decided to add Atrovent which is an
anticholinergics, prednisone which is a glucocorticoid, and doxycycline, an antibiotic (Stoller, 2017).
The patient has already been prescribed albuterol, which is a short acting beta adrenergic agonist. In
adding Atrovent to the treatment therapy, it increases the effect of bronchodilation and helps the
patient to breathe better (Stoller, 2017). For the antibiotics, it is recommended that the antibiotic
regimen should target likely bacterial pathogens (Haemophilus influenza, Moraxella catarrhalis, and
Streptococcus pneumonia) (Stoller, 2017). Thus, we chose doxycycline as the drug of choice for the
treatment (Bartlett Sethi, 2017).

Providers also need to be caution in using it on patients who has glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, and
prostatic hyperplasia/bladder neck obstruction (Lexicomp, 2017).
Drug to Drug, Food, Herb Interaction Ipratropium has many drug interactions. Some in the X category
include aclidinium, anticholinergic agents, glucagon, glycopyrrolate, potassium chloride which need
to avoid combining with Atrovent (Lexicomp, 2017). Many of the X category drugs enhance the
anticholinergic effect. Other drugs that are C category include acetylcholinesterase inhibitor,
gastrointestinal agents, nitroglycerin, thiazide diuretics and tiotropium (Lexicomp, 2017). It is
important to note that some of the common drug interactions. For nitro, it is important to remember
the anticholinergic agents may impair or decrease the absorption of sublingual nitrate (Lexicomp,
2017). Also, the potassium chloride, the anticholinergic agent may enhance the ulcerogenic effect on
the oral form of potassium (Lexicomp, 2017).
Administration Guidelines
For Metered dose inhaler, it is important to prim the inhaler, by releasing two test spray in the air,
before use (Lexicomp, 2017).
Clinical Drug Dosing
The recommended dose for acute exacerbation of COPD is 2 inhalation of MDI every four to six
hours (Lexicomp, 2017).
Prednisone
For respiratory diseases, it treats disease such as aspiration pneumonitis, asthma, pulmonary
tuberculosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and pulmonary fibrosis (Lexicomp, 2017).

Sean Armstrong s Eros And Psyche
To earn a good mark on a test, one must be willing to study continuously, in spite of the hassle of
doing so. To win gold in the Olympics, one must be dedicated to the sport and train constantly, despite
the difficulty. From the smallest of objectives to the greatest, never has anyone achieved anything
important for their lives without commitment and hardship. In Sean Armstrong s short story, Eros and
Psyche , these very same attributes are presented in order to acquire love. By Psyche agreeing to
accomplish Aphrodite s tasks and facing the jealousy and wrath of the goddess in order to gain back
the love of her life, Eros, she has introduced herself to a journey of trials and tribulations. In Eros and
Psyche , Sean Armstrong uses the three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, the tasks that are given are not at all simple. One of the most dangerous of them requires her to
obtain some of Persephone s beauty by traveling to the underworld which is considered to be a
sentence of death (229). Even with the knowledge that she could possibly be risking her life to fulfill
this task, Psyche still undertakes it. This is because she is aware that by completing this task, she will
be able to be with the love of her life and giving up now would mean that all her hard work would be
in vain. By incorporating a character such as Psyche who displays a persistent characteristic in such an
impossible task, Armstrong implies that having a willingness to do something despite its difficulty and
pursuing it until the end will always have a reward. Second, Psyche is not only rewarded with Eros,
but she is also given the status of a god. When Eros takes Psyche to Olympus after completing her
tasks, he convinces Zeus that Psyche has proven her love for [Eros] and therefore let her stay in
heaven (230). Psyche earns herself a seat on Olympus due to the fact that she stays committed to
accomplishing her given tasks, and in doing so has proven that she is prepared to undergo any task in
order to be with Eros which is rewarded with a rightfully earned spot on Olympus. By rewarding
Psyche for seeing her tasks through, Armstrong implies that there is a reward in diligence and hard
work.

Optimism Research Paper
PSCY1000
Melissa Ryan

Is the glass half full or half empty? Does every cloud truly have a silver lining? These are a few quotes
that are as old as the ages. I have always found myself to look at the brighter and lighter side of every
situation. I find that not dwelling on the negative or pondering on the downside keeps me in a better
place and state of mind.

Others let one problem bleed all over everything. They catastrophize. When one thread of their lives
breaks the whole fabric unravels. It comes down to this: People who make universal explanations for
their failures give up on everything when a failure strikes in one area. People who make specific
explanations may become helpless in that one part of their lives, yet march stalwartly on in the
others...Now for the converse. The optimistic explanatory style for good events is opposite that for bad
events. The optimist believes good events will enhance everything he does, while the pessimist
believes good events are caused by specific factors. (Seligman M.E.P., 2002, p. 90 91).
Hope. ...Whether or not we have hope, depends on two dimensions taken together. Finding permanent
and universal causes of good events along with temporary and specific causes for misfortune is the art
of hope; finding permanent and universal causes for misfortune and temporary and specific causes of
good events is the practice of despair...People who make permanent and universal explanations for
good events, as well as temporary and specific explanations for bad events, bounce back from troubles
briskly and get on a roll easily when they succeed once. People who make temporary and specific
explanations for success, and permanent and universal explanations for setbacks, tend to collapse
under pressure both for a long time and across situations and rarely get on a roll. (Seligman M.E.P.,

Is Neoliberal Globalization A System Of Smoke And Mirrors...
Neoliberal globalisation has been a system of smoke and mirrors where the basic instability and
unsustainability of the whole system has been covered up by the credit bubble . Discuss
In this research paper I am going to discuss the extent to which neoliberal globalisation has been a
system of smoke and mirrors where the basic instability and unsustainability of the whole system has
been covered up by the credit bubble. I will firstly attempt to define what neoliberal globalisation is,
and explain how it has spread globally. I ll then outline examples of the effect this has had on
countries, and how it has led to the growth of unregulated corporations. Next, I ll try to clarify the key
link that exists between neoliberal economies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neoliberalism believes strongly in having an up to date free market, It focuses on the principle of
having a free market with nationalised institutions transforming to become private entities, this leads
to most if not all public institutions being sold off to private investors. It also believes in reducing the
helping hand of government by cutting public services and removing social initiatives such as
unemployment and disability payment. Neoliberalism also believes that to create a truly free market,
there must be no regulation of it; this allows the market to generate as much profit as possible.
Individual responsibility is a key aspect of neoliberalism, as it ensures that the government can be
relinquished of its responsibility to provide for the poorest in society, this forces the poorest to pretty
much fight to survive due to no state healthcare, education or social security. Capitalism is one of the
most important aspects of neoliberalism, it allows anyone to achieve their goals if they have the
determination to follow it through.
Neoliberal globalisation is therefore the global expansion of neoliberal economic theory; this has
resulted in the formation of a global economic system which operates with oversight from neoliberal
economic institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and

Adolescent Learning Practices And Preferences
This assignment has two folds. It first attempts to capture and narrate stories of adolescent learning
practices and preferences in a middle school setting. Then, it analyses and interprets the narrative
through the lens of literatures. The interpretation also can be supported or confuted by the perspectives
gained from my interactions with adolescents and their teachers during my recent placement. As
Pendergast (2009) points out, there is a lack of emphasis on middle school education that results in
ineffective teaching and learning approaches. So, in recognising a need for every middle school
teacher to develop a better knowledge and understanding of adolescents, this qualitative exercise
becomes a salient point of my teacher training.
Adolescents are often seen as a risk or perceived to be at risk (Carrington, 2006). Like many, I, too,
have acquired such perception. Therefore, there is an urgency to replace the old with new fresh
perspectives. In order to engage adolescents, a teacher must explore various learning needs based on
the characteristics of adolescents. MYSA (2008, p. 1) defines middle schooling as an intentional
approach to teaching and learning that is responsive and appropriate to the full range of needs,
interests and achievements of middle year students in formal and informal schooling contexts. The
challenge of being able to understand and engage adolescents is significant.
The Narrative
My recent placement experience includes making qualitative

Chimpanzees In Through A Window By Jane Goodall
In the book Through a Window by Jane Goodall, Goodall tells the reader about her experience when
studying chimpanzees in Gombe for thirty years. Goodall explains how chimpanzees and humans are
very much alike, not only in DNA structure but also in social behavior, intelligent ability, and
emotions. Goodall talks about these similarities throughout the book. Chimpanzees can use tools, have
social organization, have a way to communicate, a similar diet, and locomotion all of which show how
humans and chimpanzees are more closely related then what was originally thought.
Anatomy of the chimpanzee brain is quite similar to that of a human. Since the brain of both are so
much alike it makes sense that chimpanzees can do activities that were once ... Show more content on

Goodall believed that chimpanzees and humans were more closely related then what was believed.
She used the scientific method to complete this experiment. The scientific method has five steps:
observation, induction, deduction, testing, and results. Goodall went to Gombe to observe the
chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Throughout the thirty years Goodall was able to recruit more
volunteers to come and help observe the chimpanzees. By there would be anywhere from 10 to 30
volunteers at a time to get as much information as possible. Goodall induction was that chimpanzees
and humans were similar in multiple ways. This hypothesis was based off of what she had seen in her
early years of observation. Deduction is an if/then statement made from assuming if the hypothesis
was true then this must be true. I could not figure out what Goodall s deduction for her experiment
was. I could imagine that her deduction was something along the lines of: if chimpanzees are similar
to humans in DNA and anatomy then chimpanzees must be similar in emotional and social behavior.
The next step would be testing this if/then statement. Goodall tested her hypothesis by watching the
chimpanzees in their natural environment. Goodall studied how the chimpanzees acted toward each
other, the emotions of the chimpanzees, and how the chimpanzees responded to different events such

Trophy Hunting Essay
Every year, trophy hunters kill tens of thousands of animals, some of them threatened or endangered,
exclusively for the thrill of bringing home a trophy . In order to acquire trophies, trophy hunters tend
to work with outfitters that arrange equipment, supplies, and often trained guides. This section will
further elaborate on the business of trophy hunting.
Working with a Trophy Hunting Outfitter
Trophy hunting outfitters facilitate trophy hunting outings and thereby make such outings accessible
to novices and experts alike, provided clients are willing to pay the often substantial financial fees.
Outfitters are often able to customize each trophy hunting trip to individual needs and can assist with
and advise clients about outing logistics with which they may not be familiar, including licensing and
permitting processes, identifying target species, recommending necessary equipment, and even
suggesting best hunting techniques. Established outfitters can provide an experienced guide that, in
most cases, helps garner a successful kill.
How Much Does it Cost?
Trophy hunting is an extremely expensive sport. Generally, the high price for a trophy hunting
packages includes travel, lodging, meals, on the ground hunting guides, permits, some supplies, and
preparing the kill for taxidermy. Equipment like hunting rifles, shotguns, bows, ammunition, shipment
of the kill, taxidermy, and gratuity are often considered additional costs. Some high profile hunt costs

How Is Bilbo Baggins A Hero
Hobbit
There is more good in you than you know of child of the kindly West. Some courage and some
wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it
would be merrier world. J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit. The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, goes on an epic
expedition with 12 dwarves and a wizard to defeat a dangerous fire breathing dragon, who took the
dwarves home and gold. Hobbits, which is what Bilbo Baggins is, generally hate going on adventures

Bilbo Baggins is defined as a hero because he saves the dwarves from the gigantic spiders in a pitch
black forest, rescues them from the Elvenking s grasp, and bravely takes an extremely precious jewel,
that the dwarves have been searching for, and gave it to the elves and lake men to use as a bargain tool
to prevent them from fighting the dwarves.
Finding out that his friends were getting captured by gigantic spiders left Bilbo something else to
worry about besides lack of food and water. His heroic self came out again as he used himself as a
decoy, or bait, to lure the spiders far away from the dwarves so he can have time to free the dwarves
later. He used himself once more to help the dwarves run to a safe place while the spiders were slowly
closing in on them. This shows that Bilbo is self sacrificing and would do anything to keep his friends
which is an impotent trait for a hero to have.
Bilbo became a hero once more when the dwarves were captured by the elvenking and sentenced to
jail until they can tell him why they were venturing into his forest. Bilbo used a ring

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is things like water bottles and condiment containers, this plastic is
listed as safe but can leach chemicals during production. Plastic #2: High Density Polyethylene
(HDPE) is used for milk, juice, and shampoo bottles, these are considered as a low level of toxicity.
Plastic #3: Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) these plastics are used for plastic wrap, plastic toys, some
medication containers. PVC is considered semi toxic and releases hormonal toxins that can alter
someone s hormones. Plastic #4: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), used for bags, milk cartons, and
garbage bags it is very low toxicity. Plastic #5: Polypropylene (PP), is used for yogurt and similar
containers and is found to release some toxins.Plastic #6: Polystyrene (PS) , this is styrofoam and is
very bad it can release styrene which can damage the nervous system and is linked to cancer.
Temperature also plays a role because when styrofoam is at a low temperature less is leaked and when
at a high temperature more is leaked. Plastic #7: any other plastic or combination of plastics this one is

My First Day Of My Best Friend In My Life
Like some people I haven t lived in Ramona my whole life, I lived in Evanston Wyoming for about
seven years. Then in 2010 I moved out here at the end of summer, which meant the day I was dreading
came very fast, the first day of 3rd grade at a new school. Being the new kid, I was nervous and shy
and didn t have any idea how I would introduce myself, but lucky for me someone introduced herself
first. Hi, I m Michaela! said the girl, who would soon become my best friend and still is to this day.
Michaela Brooke Meskell broke the ice and started talking to me and made me feel a little less
nervous on the first day of my new life and that s when our friendship began. I have known her for
seven years now and is one of best friends. She is a pretty, tall, skinny 15 year old girl with long
straight brown hair, brown eyes and glasses. She runs cross country and track, does very well in
school and likes art and YouTube. Michaela was my very first friend when I moved here and over the
last seven years I ve gotten to know so much about her. She s artistic, humorous, kind, intelligent,
loyal and so many more amazing things. I m so grateful to have her in my life and hope to still have
her with me in the future. Even though we both have very similar ways of thinking we have different
thoughts on how we actually decided to become friends. Both of us were about 8 years old, Michaela
was most likely wearing her usual outfit of a plain colored shirt, a skort, and mismatched socks that
went up to her knees while I was wearing something that matched more. It was 3rd grade at James
Dukes Elementary in August. It was hot outside so the cool plastic chairs were nice as I sat down
waiting for class to start. Michaela introduced herself and we started talking. She says that she was shy
and quiet when we met but I remember she was not either of those things and told me we should be
friends. I was the shy one so I just said ok, sure and just followed her around and eventually we were
officially friends. Either way, this showed me how she was friendly and kind to me as I was nervous
on my first day. Another example is something more recent. Just the other day I was doing homework
with Michaela over the phone. I was at my house and

Biography of Margaret Sanger
Margaret Sanger founded a movement in this country that would institute such a change in the course
of our biological history that it is still debated today. Described by some as a radiant rebel , Sanger
pioneered the birth control movement in the United States at a time when Victorian hypocrisy and
oppression through moral standards were at their highest. Working her way up from a nurse in New

The Cremator Film Analysis
Contemporary efforts to represent Nazis often highlight their humanity (especially in museum
settings), largely as a warning to future generations that evil can be perpetrated by even the most
ordinary person. Herz s The Cremator, however, paints a very different picture of both Nazis and
human nature. Herz depicts Nazis and those susceptible to Nazi ideology as pathological beings, as
having tendencies and vices that create fertile ground for murderous or genocidal fantasies. Use close
readings of scenes to build an argument about how Herz represents the relationship between individual
psyches and evil. You may structure your paper by technique (going through various aspects of

Herz depicts Nazis and those susceptible to Nazi ideology, like Kopfrkingl, as having tendencies and
vices that create fertile ground for murderous and genocidal fantasies. This is contrary to the typical
notion regarded by his contemporaries that evil can be perpetrated by even the most ordinary person.
Kopfrkingl is immediately notably strange from his introductory spiel on vices and his eccentric
explanation of work at the crematorium and mannerisms allow him to be labeled as deranged.
Although Kopfrkingl hesitates to succumb to Nazi idealogy, partially due to his natural demeanor and
romantic beliefs, he eventually submits as he realizes the benefits and advantages of joining the party.
As Nazi s encroach on Czech borders, and tensions rise, Kopfrkingl naturally adopts the ideologies of
the Nazis and their urgency to establish a pure and new world order. Disturbingly, Herz brings to the
surface what lies under both the personal and historical madness and pustulous corruption of human
life, of which Kopfrkingl s diseased mind and Nazi Germany or Communist Russia are simply the

Teaching And Learning Plan On Testicular Cancer For Second...
Evaluating our teaching and learning plan on Testicular cancer for second year nursing students enable
us to reflect on the whether the teaching and learning tools were effective in reaching the goals we laid
out in our teaching plan and rational. Using a summative evaluation we were able to determine the
effectiveness of our plan and learners experience (Worrall, P.S., 2014). This approach enabled us to

To support increased learning in our allotted thirty minutes time frame, we included some videos pre

Powerpoint presentation could build up their understanding (Fitzgerald, K., Keyes, K. (2014). We feel
this minimized the same information being repeated in a manner in what Fitzgerald Keyes (2014)

Challenges that we experienced while facilitating our teaching plan were: Nervous at the start of our
presentation, pronunciation of a few pathology terms, intermittent reduce volume from presenter and
disengagement from the class during the implementation of our activity in which we had the class

explain activity prior to doing it. Time efficiency played a role in our decision to pass out the activity

Assignment #4 Topic 1
By 1984 Rock and Roll music was going through a changing phase. From break ups, tragic deaths due
to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and obnoxious solo performances, and overly
loud and unnecessary amps that almost sounded like they were going all the way to 11 instead of 10. It
seemed that Rock and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical genre. It is in this
environment that the movie This is Spinal Tap bases itself in.
This is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mock documentary or mockumentary about a fictitious band named
Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of director Rob Reiner as he
interviews and follows the British band for their United States concert tour for their new album, Smell
My Glove . Throughout the film and tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for the band.
From drops in concert attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial imagery,
sudden changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding them back.
The film pokes fun at the many real life rock stars and bands that existed at the time; including Yes,
Early Genesis, Ritchie Blackmore, The Beatles, Dee Snider, Led Zeppelin etc., and how the media and
society viewed them during this era. It shows how society viewed Rock Stars as larger than life idols,
often overlooking their obvious flaws until it catches up to them; and contrasts it

How Might An Organization s Culture And Structure Impact...
How might an organization s culture and structure impact work life balance? Work life balance has
become an increasingly important topic of interest. Creating a healthy work life balance has been
shown to increase success in both personal and professional arenas (Karakose et al., 2014).
Organizations are now modifying their structure and culture to accommodate for the extra emphasis
placed on this balance. An organization s structure either allows for or hinders this balance. Structure
consists of how the organization s policies, procedures, and processes and their effect on this balance.

If this balance is actively pursued by the organization, changes and implementations can be made to
align it with its balance goals. Elissa Tucker (2012) performed an analysis on companies considered
benchmarks for work life balance. Tucker found that best practices offer support for dual career
families, work at home policies and practices, and flexible hours. These common proceedings among
industry standards are aligned with one common theme: flexibility. An organization with flexibility in
regards to employees personal lives has an advantage in retaining and satisfying top talent. It is with
flexibility that organizations are able to accommodate the requests and concerns generated by work
life balance conflicts. Organizations that are able to serve effectively the requests of its employees do
not always resort to protocols. Finding a solution to an employee s needs may come from not having a
policy as much as having one. Flexibility is, in essence, the ability to find solutions. Today s work
environments are becoming more varied by the task and setting than ever before. An organization
structured in a way that provides alternative and flexible work schedules can have an extreme impact
on its employees work life balances. Life comes with many uncertainties. Employees have many
responsibilities and perform many roles. Flexible work

Self Promotion and Celebrity Endorsements of Healthy Lifestyles
In his book Celebrity and Power: Fame in Contemporary Culture, P. David Marshall states The close
scrutiny that is given to celebrities is to accentuate the possibility and potential for individuals to
shape themselves unfettered by the constraints of a hierarchical society (246). Therefore, celebrities
are seen as role models for a lifestyle that might never be fully attainable by the average person, but
can be imitated. What is ironic then is that following a celebrity endorsed lifestyle does not create
individuality, but reduces it. While celebrities endorse products, they also appear in advertisements
which promote a healthy lifestyle where through the abstinence ... Show more content on

Both phrases are denotationally persuasive, letting parent know that following what is said in the ad
will lead to happy children and good parent child relationships. The way to achieve this is by reading
the information, but also buying concert tickets and supporting the band. As well, near the bottom of
the advertisement, the tag line We All Make a Difference appears under the Budweiser logo. By
adding this in, parents can also be persuaded to enjoy the beer responsibly as the company projects
itself through this advertisement as one that is concerned for the health and safety of children. In all
these ways, the linguistic messages of the advertisement go well beyond promoting the cause, but also
promote the celebrity endorsers, and in this case, the product which the advertisement is deterring
children from.
The iconic messages in the advertisement are also at work to achieve the cross promotional result. The
non coded Budweiser logo works in conjunction with the tag line We All Make a Difference as
discussed above, to promote the brand of beer. What is more interesting however, is the use of the
band s image as a coded message. Each of the five band members are looking directly at the reader,

C. Wright Mills published this book in 1959. The Sociological Imagination is the awareness of the
relationship between personal experience and wider society. His main goal of the book was to merge
two different concepts of social reality, the individual and society. The ability to see things socially
and how they interact and influence each other. Mills emphasized the importance of seeing the
connections between social structure and individual experience and agency. He also talks about
personal troubles and public issues. What we often see and experience as personal troubles, like being
unemployed and not being able to pay yours bill are actually public issues. These are the result of

The Feminist Movement Of Women Essay
Miller s work helped to shed light on the intersectionality of women s movements, not everyone
agreed on what changes feminism should bring or if it should exist at all in Mexican society. Before
her work, there existed a generally accepted assumption among politically active women that their
common interests as women in gaining the vote, in health care, in education cut across class
backgrounds and ideological orientations. This was most certainly not the case in Mexico, as Miller
found out, being involved in the feminist movement meant that women risked losing not only
respectability but their claim, as women and mothers, to the protection of society. Women played a
major role in the protection of the longevity of societal norms, as they trained the next generation.
This idea was so entrenched in the Mexican social mores that women involved in the feminist
movement were considered to not be decent mothers or women. This led to a counter movement by
the Union of Catholic Women of Mexico that asserted that women place was in the home, and equated
socialism with free love and feminism. Miller s book fits well with the other revisionist history work
that is going on during the late 1980s and 1990s. She notes that revisionist work has been going on in
all disciplines, not just history, For nearly two decades, scholars and activists have painstakingly
reexamined every field of human endeavor to reconquer revindivar a space for women in history,

Netflix Is Taking The Online Entertainment Rental Market
History Netflix is taking the online entertainment rental market by storm. Reed Hastings and March
Randolph began a movie rental company that required members to subscribe to rental TV show series

ridiculous late fees since retail stores such as Blockbuster and Hollywood rental were almost extinct.
By 2005, the company already had 4.2 million customers subscribed to the movie service

streaming service plan to customers that would make the service accessible at one s fingertips. The
convenience of watching movies went from receiving and sending DVD s by mail to viewing a large
selection of movies over the internet and television. According to Netflix.com, every year after
introducing TV shows and movies on the internet, this company advanced to a series of strategic

Black Death Effect
In 1348 the Black death arrived on European shores. The first part of Europe to get infected was
Sicily. The international gates of Genoa and Venice experienced the symptoms about a year later. A lot
people think the beginnings of the plague moved westward with trade caravans. Genoese and Venetian
merchants got infected during a siege of their trading posts at Caffa. They brought the disease with
them into the Mediterranean, Constantinople and Europe. Muslim merchants imported plague from
Constantinople to Alexandria, Egypt. After that, others spread it to the westward Africa and the
Middle East.
By 1350, when the Black Death retreated, it had already cut a quarter to half of the region s
population. In 1362, 1368, and 1381, The Black Death struck again and would intermittently strike

Taking a Look at Photosynthetic Pigments
Photosynthetic pigments
Introduction
Some animals and most plants use photosynthesis to convert light energy into chemical energy. The
energy that is created can be stored and is accessed later on by consumers. The consumers of the
organisms break bonds while digesting the plant material and the stored energy is released into their
perspective systems. The entire process of photosynthesis can be summarized as carbon dioxide and
water reacting with light to create sugar, water and oxygen. Although put deceivingly simple terms,
the process of photosynthesis energy conversion can be broken into two different reaction pathways, a
light independent reaction and a light dependent reaction. In the light independent reaction, the energy
stored by the plant as ATP and NADPH is used to fixate carbon dioxide and create sugar. Inversely,
the light dependent reactions use the absorption of light to produce ATP and high energy electrons that
are stored. The absorbing molecules found within the plant are referred to as pigments and each one
absorbs different wavelengths. For example, chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light while other
pigments absorb all other wavelengths of light that are left over. The other pigments found in plants
fall into a group called carotenoids. Within the carotenoid group, the wavelengths for violet and blue
light are absorbed. To understanding pigments in plants in relation to light, Thin Layer
Chromatography (TLC) and spectroscopy are used to test the

Nancy Pearcey Worldview In Conflict
In Worldview In Conflict , the authors, Charles Colson and Nancy Pearcey, wrote this essay with the
viewpoint that the clash of worldviews is between Christian beliefs and naturalism, and not between
traditional religions or cultures which is what most people perceive the biggest conflict to be. Charles
Colson, according to the short bio at the beginning of this essay and his online bio at CNSnews, is a
bestselling author, commentator, international speaker, and syndicated columnist who writes books
and articles encouraging Christians to understand their faith in an international worldview. Before
becoming a born again evangelical Christian, he was President Richard Nixon s hatchet man ,
moreover he served seven months in prison when he pled guilty to obstruction of justice for his part in
the Watergate cover up. He became a born again Christian in prison and once out he founded Prison
Fellowship Ministries and spent much of his life writing and speaking about his Christian belief and
views. Nancy Pearcey, per her bio on her website and the website for Houston Baptist University
(HBU) is an author, commentator, speaker, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book was assigned as a requirement of my English Writing I class at Bryan College. This
prompted me to believe that this book has been vetted by the university and is a credible source. This
book is a collection of writings written with a Christian point of view, published by Baker Academic, a
publisher who publishes primary and secondary textbook geared towards Christian learning. This
essay is excerpted from Colson s and Pearcy s book How Now Shall We Live? published by Tyndale
House Publishing, a publisher of all forms of Christian literature. This book was written from Colson
and Pearcey s worldview in answer to basic life questions and how we should live because of those
answers per the blurb on the back of the

Ma Joad Character Analysis
The journey of the Joad family takes course during the period of the Great Depression in United
States. This century brings extreme hardship upon families across America. Especially for the Joad
family as they are also affected by the Dust Bowl in Oklahoma. The economic decline and natural
disaster cause the family to relocate and abandon their home, and their past. In times of crisis, the
Joads must endure the loss of family, property, and a home. The Joads travel west to California in
hopes of finding new jobs and a new home. On their 2,000 mile journey a leader arises among the
family. Ma Joad becomes the leader of the family, she learns to control her emotions and act for the
greater cause of her family s survival. Ma Joad possesses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Ma Joad s selfless behavior is continually witnessed throughout their journey to the west. The most
stunning and disturbing act of heroism is seen at Daggett. Grandma was already dead when they
reached the inspection point. Ma Joad had to lie to the inspectors and to her family that Grandma was
sick and had to get to the hospital quick. Ma had lied for the greater cause of getting her family safely
across the desert. Once they arrived, Ma spoke the truth, Grandma s dead . . . I tol Granma we couldn
he p her. The fambly had ta get acrost. I tol her when she was a dyin . We couldn stop in the desert.
There was the young ones an Rosasharn s baby (228). The family looked at Ma with a little terror at
her strength. She did not want to burden the family with Grandma s death, and so she kept it a secret.
Ma was able to mask her pain from the others. Ma has performed this selfless act out of love. Ma
wanted to ensure that the rest of her family reaches their final destination, unlike Grandma, who did
not make it. Ma s selfless behavior is also displayed when the family was camped at Hooverville. Ma
was making stew when the fifteen children, all fifteen of them, stood silently and watched . . . The
children were embarrassed to be there, but they did not go (253). Ma knew there wasn t enough food
for her family and the starving children. She confessed, I can t rob the fambly. I got to feed the fambly.

Theme In Katherine Anne Porter s He
Gole Girgis
Mrs. Bucchin
Honors American Literature II
02 June 2017
Theme of He by Katherine Anne Porter
In the short story He by Katherine Anne Porter, the author describes a lower class southern family and
the difficulties that they go through. More importantly, Porter focuses on the theme of the story which
is importance of appearance through child neglect. The theme of the story is shown through Mrs.
Whipple s relationship with her mentally retarded son, and how she uses him to get what she wants.
Other people in the story, such as her husband, Mr. Whipple and their two children, Adna and Emly
help add to the story s theme. Mrs. Whipple, the mother, is the main character. In this short story He
refers to the name of the mentally ill boy in the family , and He is what the theme of the story is
mostly referring to.
Like Porter, who would later become somewhat obsessed with buying fancy clothes and jewelry to
erode the early poverty she experienced and to impress upon the world that she was a success, so too
is Mrs. Whipple, the protagonist in the story, focused on appearances (Galens 103). At the beginning
of the story Mrs. Whipple doesn t want people to know how much she and her family struggle through
their daily life. When her husband says anything about their life being difficult, she gets mad and
angry at him. Another example of why appearance is very important to the family is that, Mrs.
Whipple made her husband kill a pig to show her brother when he comes to visit that the family is
doing fine. She is more concerned about how her neighbors will see her rather than how her lifestyle is
affecting her. The reason why is because she doesn t want any of her neighbors to talk about their
family in a negative way.
Mrs. Whipple just uses her disabled son to get what she wants, because he s not her favorite child. She
prefers the other two over him. An example where child neglect is used in the story is when Mrs.
Whipple makes her son go into the pigsty to get the pig. Rather than Mr. Whipple or Mrs. Whipple
getting the pig themselves, she makes her son do it even though she knows how threatening it is.
Another examples is when her son gets his clothes dirty, Mrs. Whipple hits him, rather than being

The Vysys
Nineteen Thirty Eight Regardless of the despondency at the prospect of war with Germany generated
throughout the country at large, the Vyses annual show opened as scheduled at Walker s Galleries on
Wednesday, 30th November 1938. It was the Vyses eleventh successive exhibition and although they
did not envisage such a far reaching event, it proved to be their final joint exhibition. Writing in
Walker s Monthly magazine, J L Naimaster reinforcing the mood of the time: Though international
crises may threaten us, and vogues may change and novelties may date, but Pottery that is
fundamentally well balanced remains static and real in an unstable, hysterical world. It was Nell Vyse
s opinion that in such uncertain times that no one could remain sane without using a liberal amount of
imagination, only a few of us can materialise our fantasies. The Vyses, ever optimistic, exhibited one
hundred and sixty pieces of stoneware pottery. Nell Vyse had the difficult task of teaming Art with
Science, to produce extravagant and delicate glazes in a variety of hues. It was the Vyses complete
control of the atmosphere within the kiln chamber produced such subtle glazes as the blues and
purples Chüns, the varied greens of the Celadon. Without such precise control, potters in rare and
happy accidents produce such glazes. No photograph, however detailed, can illustrate the rosy purples
that suffused the delicate blue Chün glazes (Fig. 149 p.186). Acceding to popular demand, the Vyses
introduced two new figurative works, which collectors could approve from monochrome photographs
of the original clay maquettes, published in Walker s Monthly. ... Show more content on

Facilitating And Inhibiting Factors For Learning A Language
Facilitating and inhibiting factors in learning a language in second language contexts Despite a
marked difference in terms of their level of proficiency in English, Rodi and Liam managed to
develop the same level of proficiency (high level of proficiency) in using Indonesian language. From
their reports, summarised in Table 1 above, it is quite obvious to see that social contexts where the
language is learned constitutes a very important factor that helped both learners develop their
proficiency. That is to say, the abundance of input available in the social settings helped them
conceptualise the target language systems more easily and thus enable them to cope with producing
output more effectively thereafter. Of course, the abundance of input available in the social setting is
useless unless the learners make use of it, and such quality is what differentiates good from poor
language learners (Rubin, 1975). Being immersed in a speech community seems to also raise
motivation in learning the language of the community itself. Such motivation is primarily related to
survival. In other words, the two learners faced immediate needs where they had to be able to
communicate with the new community where they lived in so that they were able to maintain social
relationship with them and, more importantly, to fulfil their daily needs. As such, the learners
perceived that learning Indonesian was meaningful and compelling. Such perception therefore might
impose a great demand on the

Gambling
Introduction
Gambling Addiction and Problem Gambling
To some people gambling is just a waste of time and money but to some it can be a winning streak.
Back then in the 1970s 30 55 years old was the typical age that most people gambled but now the
typical age is 17 70 years old. In the United States the legal age to gamble is 21 in most casinos and in
some Indian casinos the legal age is 18. There are many ways to gamble there are casinos, online
gambling and even home gambling with family or friends. Gambling not only interferes with your
money it can also affect and causes problems with an individual s life. Gambling addiction and
problem gambling create physical, emotional, social and financial problems in the lives of the
gamblers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Internet gambling is easy to get hooked on. There are advertisements for casinos at almost all of the
major search engines and home pages (ex: yahoo, metacrawler, excite etc.) Many of these
advertisements claim that they have free gambling or give away free money. For example one casino
will give you $125.00 for a $50.00 deposit. Do you think they would really give you that money if
they weren t confident that you would get hooked and spend it all there or if they thought that they
wouldn t get it all back? Once they have lured you to their websites it is easy for them to get your
money. It seems a lot easier to spend virtual casino tokens purchased with a credit card than it is to
spend your actual hard earned cash at a real casino. Another obvious problem with having online
casinos is that children have easy access to them. There is no way to check ID. Anyone with a credit
card number can play. Parents of children who gamble online are legally responsible for the debt that
their children accumulate. It is especially easy if the parents have already been to that particular casino
and set up an account. All the child would need is a password and many computer operating systems
have the option of saving passwords and filling them in for the user. Young people are especially
vulnerable to Internet gambling. In virtually all studies of the rates of gambling problems at various
ages, high school and college aged individuals show the highest problem rates, said

  • 3. Comparing Emerson And Ralph Waldo Emerson Ralph Waldo Emerson says There is a time in every man s education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide. This quote is immensely true you should always be true to yourself and you shouldn t envy people you don t really know that much about. You should stay true to yourself because if you want to imitate someone who are killing yourself figuratively. How is your inner self alive if you don t display it no one knows who you really are so your soul is dead to others. They would just see that you are like everyone else or like someone else in particular and then you will be compared to the other person which isn t what people usually want. If someone were to compare you to someone and you are just off there in the corner hearing this and they are saying blah blah he s/she s exactly like so and so and you are just like no I m me , but you have no proof because what they are saying is true. Your inner self would never be known to people if you like to hide away and just do what it is popular they we ll see you as just no one special and everyone wants to have something different about them that s what makes people awesome there is not two of the same exact people, so why would you want to strive to be exactly like another person. ... COPD Case Study Based on the symptoms of exacerbation of COPD, we decided to add Atrovent which is an anticholinergics, prednisone which is a glucocorticoid, and doxycycline, an antibiotic (Stoller, 2017). The patient has already been prescribed albuterol, which is a short acting beta adrenergic agonist. In adding Atrovent to the treatment therapy, it increases the effect of bronchodilation and helps the patient to breathe better (Stoller, 2017). For the antibiotics, it is recommended that the antibiotic regimen should target likely bacterial pathogens (Haemophilus influenza, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pneumonia) (Stoller, 2017). • 5. Sean Armstrong s Eros And Psyche To earn a good mark on a test, one must be willing to study continuously, in spite of the hassle of doing so. To win gold in the Olympics, one must be dedicated to the sport and train constantly, despite the difficulty. From the smallest of objectives to the greatest, never has anyone achieved anything important for their lives without commitment and hardship. In Sean Armstrong s short story, Eros and Psyche , these very same attributes are presented in order to acquire love. By Psyche agreeing to accomplish Aphrodite s tasks and facing the jealousy and wrath of the goddess in order to gain back the love of her life, Eros, she has introduced herself to a journey of trials and tribulations. In Eros and Psyche , Sean Armstrong uses the three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, the tasks that are given are not at all simple. One of the most dangerous of them requires her to obtain some of Persephone s beauty by traveling to the underworld which is considered to be a sentence of death (229). Even with the knowledge that she could possibly be risking her life to fulfill this task, Psyche still undertakes it. This is because she is aware that by completing this task, she will be able to be with the love of her life and giving up now would mean that all her hard work would be in vain. By incorporating a character such as Psyche who displays a persistent characteristic in such an impossible task, Armstrong implies that having a willingness to do something despite its difficulty and pursuing it until the end will always have a reward. Second, Psyche is not only rewarded with Eros, but she is also given the status of a god. When Eros takes Psyche to Olympus after completing her tasks, he convinces Zeus that Psyche has proven her love for [Eros] and therefore let her stay in heaven (230). Psyche earns herself a seat on Olympus due to the fact that she stays committed to accomplishing her given tasks, and in doing so has proven that she is prepared to undergo any task in order to be with Eros which is rewarded with a rightfully earned spot on Olympus. By rewarding Psyche for seeing her tasks through, Armstrong implies that there is a reward in diligence and hard work. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Neoliberal globalisation has been a system of smoke and mirrors where the basic instability and unsustainability of the whole system has been covered up by the credit bubble . Discuss In this research paper I am going to discuss the extent to which neoliberal globalisation has been a system of smoke and mirrors where the basic instability and unsustainability of the whole system has been covered up by the credit bubble. I will firstly attempt to define what neoliberal globalisation is, and explain how it has spread globally. I ll then outline examples of the effect this has had on countries, and how it has led to the growth of unregulated corporations. Next, I ll try to clarify the key link that exists between neoliberal economies and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Neoliberalism believes strongly in having an up to date free market, It focuses on the principle of having a free market with nationalised institutions transforming to become private entities, this leads to most if not all public institutions being sold off to private investors. It also believes in reducing the helping hand of government by cutting public services and removing social initiatives such as unemployment and disability payment. Neoliberalism also believes that to create a truly free market, there must be no regulation of it; this allows the market to generate as much profit as possible. Individual responsibility is a key aspect of neoliberalism, as it ensures that the government can be relinquished of its responsibility to provide for the poorest in society, this forces the poorest to pretty much fight to survive due to no state healthcare, education or social security. Capitalism is one of the most important aspects of neoliberalism, it allows anyone to achieve their goals if they have the determination to follow it through. Neoliberal globalisation is therefore the global expansion of neoliberal economic theory; this has resulted in the formation of a global economic system which operates with oversight from neoliberal economic institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and ... • 8. Adolescent Learning Practices And Preferences This assignment has two folds. It first attempts to capture and narrate stories of adolescent learning practices and preferences in a middle school setting. Then, it analyses and interprets the narrative through the lens of literatures. The interpretation also can be supported or confuted by the perspectives gained from my interactions with adolescents and their teachers during my recent placement. As Pendergast (2009) points out, there is a lack of emphasis on middle school education that results in ineffective teaching and learning approaches. So, in recognising a need for every middle school teacher to develop a better knowledge and understanding of adolescents, this qualitative exercise becomes a salient point of my teacher training. Adolescents are often seen as a risk or perceived to be at risk (Carrington, 2006). Like many, I, too, have acquired such perception. Therefore, there is an urgency to replace the old with new fresh perspectives. In order to engage adolescents, a teacher must explore various learning needs based on the characteristics of adolescents. MYSA (2008, p. 1) defines middle schooling as an intentional approach to teaching and learning that is responsive and appropriate to the full range of needs, interests and achievements of middle year students in formal and informal schooling contexts. The challenge of being able to understand and engage adolescents is significant. The Narrative My recent placement experience includes making qualitative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Goodall explains how chimpanzees and humans are very much alike, not only in DNA structure but also in social behavior, intelligent ability, and emotions. Goodall talks about these similarities throughout the book. Chimpanzees can use tools, have social organization, have a way to communicate, a similar diet, and locomotion all of which show how humans and chimpanzees are more closely related then what was originally thought. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goodall believed that chimpanzees and humans were more closely related then what was believed. She used the scientific method to complete this experiment. The scientific method has five steps: observation, induction, deduction, testing, and results. Goodall went to Gombe to observe the chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Throughout the thirty years Goodall was able to recruit more volunteers to come and help observe the chimpanzees. By there would be anywhere from 10 to 30 volunteers at a time to get as much information as possible. Goodall induction was that chimpanzees and humans were similar in multiple ways. This hypothesis was based off of what she had seen in her early years of observation. Deduction is an if/then statement made from assuming if the hypothesis was true then this must be true. I could not figure out what Goodall s deduction for her experiment was. I could imagine that her deduction was something along the lines of: if chimpanzees are similar to humans in DNA and anatomy then chimpanzees must be similar in emotional and social behavior. The next step would be testing this if/then statement. Goodall tested her hypothesis by watching the chimpanzees in their natural environment. Goodall studied how the chimpanzees acted toward each other, the emotions of the chimpanzees, and how the chimpanzees responded to different events such as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Trophy Hunting Essay Every year, trophy hunters kill tens of thousands of animals, some of them threatened or endangered, exclusively for the thrill of bringing home a trophy . In order to acquire trophies, trophy hunters tend to work with outfitters that arrange equipment, supplies, and often trained guides. This section will further elaborate on the business of trophy hunting. Working with a Trophy Hunting Outfitter Trophy hunting outfitters facilitate trophy hunting outings and thereby make such outings accessible to novices and experts alike, provided clients are willing to pay the often substantial financial fees. Outfitters are often able to customize each trophy hunting trip to individual needs and can assist with and advise clients about outing logistics with which they may not be familiar, including licensing and permitting processes, identifying target species, recommending necessary equipment, and even suggesting best hunting techniques. She s artistic, humorous, kind, intelligent, loyal and so many more amazing things. I m so grateful to have her in my life and hope to still have her with me in the future. Even though we both have very similar ways of thinking we have different thoughts on how we actually decided to become friends. Both of us were about 8 years old, Michaela was most likely wearing her usual outfit of a plain colored shirt, a skort, and mismatched socks that went up to her knees while I was wearing something that matched more. It was 3rd grade at James Dukes Elementary in August. It was hot outside so the cool plastic chairs were nice as I sat down waiting for class to start. Michaela introduced herself and we started talking. She says that she was shy and quiet when we met but I remember she was not either of those things and told me we should be friends. I was the shy one so I just said ok, sure and just followed her around and eventually we were officially friends. The ads will be mainly based around what most supermarket ads these days are based around, and that is recognition and hoping to install recall into the buyers memory, showing off the new items that are now on special at the ASDA stores. The form of media that will follow suite with the television campaign would be the use of catalogues. The catalogues, similar to the television campaign will help the readers of the magazine (the general public, with no specific audience) recognise the new products that are on sale, and in the process, help them recall the specific products that were shown in the catalogues as specials. Both of these used together will help with the companies brand awareness, while also helping to remind the customers about the supermarket. And by adding their own products to catalogues and in the television ads, also change brand attitude towards most of the ASDA product range. The other option for the use in the communications strategies, was to the use of radio and newspapers together, once again as a IMC program. The first use of radio helps to reach a large, somewhat more specific audience that can be associated with via the radio. Herz depicts Nazis and those susceptible to Nazi ideology, like Kopfrkingl, as having tendencies and vices that create fertile ground for murderous and genocidal fantasies. This is contrary to the typical notion regarded by his contemporaries that evil can be perpetrated by even the most ordinary person. Kopfrkingl is immediately notably strange from his introductory spiel on vices and his eccentric explanation of work at the crematorium and mannerisms allow him to be labeled as deranged. Although Kopfrkingl hesitates to succumb to Nazi idealogy, partially due to his natural demeanor and romantic beliefs, he eventually submits as he realizes the benefits and advantages of joining the party. As Nazi s encroach on Czech borders, and tensions rise, Kopfrkingl naturally adopts the ideologies of the Nazis and their urgency to establish a pure and new world order. From break ups, tragic deaths due to drugs and dangerous lifestyles, unnecessarily long and obnoxious solo performances, and overly loud and unnecessary amps that almost sounded like they were going all the way to 11 instead of 10. It seemed that Rock and Roll was dying out or becoming oversaturated as a musical genre. It is in this environment that the movie This is Spinal Tap bases itself in. This is Spinal Tap is a 1984 mock documentary or mockumentary about a fictitious band named Spinal Tap. The movie is told from the interviewing perspective of director Rob Reiner as he interviews and follows the British band for their United States concert tour for their new album, Smell My Glove . Throughout the film and tour, almost everything seems to be going wrong for the band. From drops in concert attendance, issues releasing their album cover due to controversial imagery, sudden changes in management, and the general childish behaviour of the band holding them back. The film pokes fun at the many real life rock stars and bands that existed at the time; including Yes, Early Genesis, Ritchie Blackmore, The Beatles, Dee Snider, Led Zeppelin etc., and how the media and society viewed them during this era. It shows how society viewed Rock Stars as larger than life idols, often overlooking their obvious flaws until it catches up to them; and contrasts it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. The Feminist Movement Of Women Essay Miller s work helped to shed light on the intersectionality of women s movements, not everyone agreed on what changes feminism should bring or if it should exist at all in Mexican society. Before her work, there existed a generally accepted assumption among politically active women that their common interests as women in gaining the vote, in health care, in education cut across class backgrounds and ideological orientations. This was most certainly not the case in Mexico, as Miller found out, being involved in the feminist movement meant that women risked losing not only respectability but their claim, as women and mothers, to the protection of society. Women played a major role in the protection of the longevity of societal norms, as they trained the next generation. This idea was so entrenched in the Mexican social mores that women involved in the feminist movement were considered to not be decent mothers or women. This led to a counter movement by the Union of Catholic Women of Mexico that asserted that women place was in the home, and equated socialism with free love and feminism. Miller s book fits well with the other revisionist history work that is going on during the late 1980s and 1990s. The energy that is created can be stored and is accessed later on by consumers. The consumers of the organisms break bonds while digesting the plant material and the stored energy is released into their perspective systems. The entire process of photosynthesis can be summarized as carbon dioxide and water reacting with light to create sugar, water and oxygen. Although put deceivingly simple terms, the process of photosynthesis energy conversion can be broken into two different reaction pathways, a light independent reaction and a light dependent reaction. In the light independent reaction, the energy stored by the plant as ATP and NADPH is used to fixate carbon dioxide and create sugar. Inversely, the light dependent reactions use the absorption of light to produce ATP and high energy electrons that are stored. The absorbing molecules found within the plant are referred to as pigments and each one absorbs different wavelengths. For example, chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light while other pigments absorb all other wavelengths of light that are left over. The other pigments found in plants fall into a group called carotenoids. Within the carotenoid group, the wavelengths for violet and blue light are absorbed. To understanding pigments in plants in relation to light, Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and spectroscopy are used to test the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Theme In Katherine Anne Porter s He Gole Girgis Mrs. Bucchin Honors American Literature II 02 June 2017 Theme of He by Katherine Anne Porter In the short story He by Katherine Anne Porter, the author describes a lower class southern family and the difficulties that they go through. More importantly, Porter focuses on the theme of the story which is importance of appearance through child neglect. The theme of the story is shown through Mrs. Whipple s relationship with her mentally retarded son, and how she uses him to get what she wants. Other people in the story, such as her husband, Mr. Whipple and their two children, Adna and Emly help add to the story s theme. Mrs. Whipple, the mother, is the main character. In this short story He refers to the name of the mentally ill boy in the family , and He is what the theme of the story is mostly referring to. Like Porter, who would later become somewhat obsessed with buying fancy clothes and jewelry to erode the early poverty she experienced and to impress upon the world that she was a success, so too is Mrs. Whipple, the protagonist in the story, focused on appearances (Galens 103). At the beginning of the story Mrs. Whipple doesn t want people to know how much she and her family struggle through their daily life. When her husband says anything about their life being difficult, she gets mad and angry at him. Another example of why appearance is very important to the family is that, Mrs. Whipple made her husband kill a pig to show her brother when he comes to visit that the family is doing fine. She is more concerned about how her neighbors will see her rather than how her lifestyle is affecting her. The reason why is because she doesn t want any of her neighbors to talk about their family in a negative way. Mrs. Whipple just uses her disabled son to get what she wants, because he s not her favorite child. She prefers the other two over him. An example where child neglect is used in the story is when Mrs. Whipple makes her son go into the pigsty to get the pig. Rather than Mr. Whipple or Mrs. Whipple getting the pig themselves, she makes her son do it even though she knows how threatening it is. Another examples is when her son gets his clothes dirty, Mrs. Whipple hits him, rather than being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Vysys Nineteen Thirty Eight Regardless of the despondency at the prospect of war with Germany generated throughout the country at large, the Vyses annual show opened as scheduled at Walker s Galleries on Wednesday, 30th November 1938. It was the Vyses eleventh successive exhibition and although they did not envisage such a far reaching event, it proved to be their final joint exhibition. Writing in Walker s Monthly magazine, J L Naimaster reinforcing the mood of the time: Though international crises may threaten us, and vogues may change and novelties may date, but Pottery that is fundamentally well balanced remains static and real in an unstable, hysterical world. It was Nell Vyse s opinion that in such uncertain times that no one could remain sane without using a liberal amount of imagination, only a few of us can materialise our fantasies. The Vyses, ever optimistic, exhibited one hundred and sixty pieces of stoneware pottery. Nell Vyse had the difficult task of teaming Art with Science, to produce extravagant and delicate glazes in a variety of hues. It was the Vyses complete control of the atmosphere within the kiln chamber produced such subtle glazes as the blues and purples Chüns, the varied greens of the Celadon. Without such precise control, potters in rare and happy accidents produce such glazes. No photograph, however detailed, can illustrate the rosy purples that suffused the delicate blue Chün glazes (Fig. 149 p.186). Acceding to popular demand, the Vyses introduced two new figurative works, which collectors could approve from monochrome photographs of the original clay maquettes, published in Walker s Monthly. ... • 46. Facilitating And Inhibiting Factors For Learning A Language Facilitating and inhibiting factors in learning a language in second language contexts Despite a marked difference in terms of their level of proficiency in English, Rodi and Liam managed to develop the same level of proficiency (high level of proficiency) in using Indonesian language. From their reports, summarised in Table 1 above, it is quite obvious to see that social contexts where the language is learned constitutes a very important factor that helped both learners develop their proficiency. That is to say, the abundance of input available in the social settings helped them conceptualise the target language systems more easily and thus enable them to cope with producing output more effectively thereafter. Of course, the abundance of input available in the social setting is useless unless the learners make use of it, and such quality is what differentiates good from poor language learners (Rubin, 1975). Being immersed in a speech community seems to also raise motivation in learning the language of the community itself. Such motivation is primarily related to survival. In other words, the two learners faced immediate needs where they had to be able to communicate with the new community where they lived in so that they were able to maintain social relationship with them and, more importantly, to fulfil their daily needs. As such, the learners perceived that learning Indonesian was meaningful and compelling. Such perception therefore might impose a great demand on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Internet gambling is easy to get hooked on. There are advertisements for casinos at almost all of the major search engines and home pages (ex: yahoo, metacrawler, excite etc.) Many of these advertisements claim that they have free gambling or give away free money. For example one casino will give you $125.00 for a $50.00 deposit. Do you think they would really give you that money if they weren t confident that you would get hooked and spend it all there or if they thought that they wouldn t get it all back? Once they have lured you to their websites it is easy for them to get your money. It seems a lot easier to spend virtual casino tokens purchased with a credit card than it is to spend your actual hard earned cash at a real casino. Another obvious problem with having online casinos is that children have easy access to them. There is no way to check ID. Anyone with a credit card number can play. Parents of children who gamble online are legally responsible for the debt that their children accumulate. It is especially easy if the parents have already been to that particular casino and set up an account. All the child would need is a password and many computer operating systems have the option of saving passwords and filling them in for the user. Young people are especially vulnerable to Internet gambling. In virtually all studies of the rates of gambling problems at various ages, high school and college aged individuals show the highest problem rates, said ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
