 Microsoft Word is a program called a WORD
PROCESSOR
 WORD PROCESSOR refers to a program in which the
user inputs text which is formatted to create a
readable document. Other word processors include
Notepad, Word Pad, and Apple Pages. Microsoft Word is
the most common word processor at present.
 A program that helps you create any type of written
communication.
 Can be used to manipulate text, data to produce a
letter, a report, a memo, or any other type of
correspondence.
 You can create, modify, store, retrieve, and print part
or all of a document.
Advantages
 Will make it easier to correct and change your
document.
 The program automatically wraps the text down to
the next line.
 A word processor excels in its ability to change, edit
and save a document and print on a paper.
 You can easily revise or update it by inserting or
deleting text.
 Documents in word processing can be duplicated or
copied from one location to another.

SCREEN ELEMENTS
Title Bar
 Displays the program name, followed by the
filename, and the right end displays the minimize,
restore and close buttons.
Styles
 What is a style? A style is a grouping of one or more
formats that is given a name. Styles can contain
character or paragraph formatting or any combination
of either. There are several styles available in the
Styles area on the Home tab in the Ribbon. You can use
any of these, customize them, and create your own
styles based on them.
 To apply a style: Select the text or paragraph, go to
the Styles section on the Home tab and select a style
to apply
Ruler
 Shows the line length in inches and is used to set
margins, tab stops, and indents.
 Word Document Window
 The large center area of the word application window
is where documents are displayed in open windows
with the insertion point.
Scroll box
 Use to view the contents of the window from top to
bottom and or from left to right and vice versa from
which the text are in hide.
Status Bar
 Displays, on the left side, the page and line number,
word count, and the Proof button. On the right side,
displays buttons to control the look of the window.
Quick Access Toolbar (QAT)
 Displays buttons to perform frequently used commands
with a single click. Frequently used commands in Word
include Save, Undo, Redo, and Print. For commands
that you use frequently, you can add additional
buttons to the Quick Access Toolbar.
Ribbon
 Displays the commands on tabs, and then groups the
commands by topic for performing related document
tasks.
 The Ribbon can also be minimized and customized to
fit your work style.
File Tab
 Displays Microsoft Office Backstage view, which is a
centralized space for all of your file management tasks
such as opening, saving, printing, publishing, or
sharing a file.
Tabs
 Display across the top of the Ribbon, and each tab
relates to a type of activity; for example, laying out a
page.
Group name
 Indicate the name of the groups of related commands
on the displayed tab.
Dialog box launcher
 A small icon that displays to the right of some group
names on the Ribbon; it launches a dialog box.
Insertion point
 Indicates, with a blinking vertical line, where text or
graphics will be inserted.
Print Layout button
 The default view, which displays the page borders and
the document as it will appear when printed.
View Options
 Contains buttons for viewing the document in Print
Layout, Full Screen, Reading, Web Layout, Outline, or
Draft views, and also displays controls to Zoom Out
and Zoom In.
Zoom Slider
 The Zoom Slider increases or decreases the viewing
area.
Vertical scroll bar
 Enables you to move up and down in a document to
display text that is not visible.
Program-Level Control Buttons
 The buttons on the right edge of the title bar that
minimize, restore or close the program.
Font Size Box
 A drop down list of font size available
 Lets you quickly change the size of the text.
 Font Style Box
 A drop down list of fonts available
 Displays available fonts that you can choose from
Font
 The appearance of text is determined
Bold
 Toggles BOLD on/off
 Applies or removes underline type style on the
selected text.
Underline
 Toggles UNDERLINE on/off
 Applies or removes underline type style of the selected
text
Italic
 Toggles ITALIC on/off
 Applies or removes italic type style of the selected
text
Justify
 Justifies text across the page
 Lets you align or justify text at the left and right
paragraph marker
Center Text
 Center text
 Lets you center text between the left and the right
paragraph marker
Align Right
 Aligns text right
 Lets you align selected text at the right of the
paragraph marker
Align Left
 Aligns text left
 Lets you align selected text at the left indent
paragraph marker
Numbering
 Creates a NUMBERED list
 Lets you quickly add or removes number from the
selected sentences or paragraphs
Bullets
 Creates a BULLETED list
 Lets you quickly add or removes bullets from the
selected sentences or paragraphs
Increase Indent
 Increases indents
 Lets you increases the indention of the sentences or
paragraphs
Decrease Indent
 Decreases indents
 Lets you decreases the indention of the sentences or
paragraphs
Borders
 Turns the Borders Toolbar on/off
MOVING AND COPYING TEXT IN
MS WORD
How are you going to move and copy?
 Cut, copy and paste commands are more convenient
way in copying or moving text in a longer distance.
Cut
 Is used to move the text from a document into a
temporary storage called a clipboard.
 The text is copied from the document and placed into
the Clipboard.
 Keyboard Shortcut: CTRL + X, SHIFT + DELETE
 Copy
 Is used to duplicate computer data by drawing it from
the memory or disk and making another copy.
 Keyboard Shortcut: CTRL + C, SHIFT + F2
Paste
 Is used to insert cut or copied text or graphics into a
document at the insertion point from the temporary
storage.
 Keyboard Shortcut: CTRL + V, SHIFT + Insert

  • 2.  Microsoft Word is a program called a WORD PROCESSOR  WORD PROCESSOR refers to a program in which the user inputs text which is formatted to create a readable document. Other word processors include Notepad, Word Pad, and Apple Pages. Microsoft Word is the most common word processor at present.

  • 4.  A program that helps you create any type of written communication.  Can be used to manipulate text, data to produce a letter, a report, a memo, or any other type of correspondence.  You can create, modify, store, retrieve, and print part or all of a document.
  • 5. Advantages  Will make it easier to correct and change your document.  The program automatically wraps the text down to the next line.  A word processor excels in its ability to change, edit and save a document and print on a paper.  You can easily revise or update it by inserting or deleting text.  Documents in word processing can be duplicated or copied from one location to another.

  • 12. Title Bar  Displays the program name, followed by the filename, and the right end displays the minimize, restore and close buttons.
  • 13. Styles  What is a style? A style is a grouping of one or more formats that is given a name. Styles can contain character or paragraph formatting or any combination of either. There are several styles available in the Styles area on the Home tab in the Ribbon. You can use any of these, customize them, and create your own styles based on them.  To apply a style: Select the text or paragraph, go to the Styles section on the Home tab and select a style to apply
  • 14. Ruler  Shows the line length in inches and is used to set margins, tab stops, and indents.
  • 15.  Word Document Window  The large center area of the word application window is where documents are displayed in open windows with the insertion point.
  • 16. Scroll box  Use to view the contents of the window from top to bottom and or from left to right and vice versa from which the text are in hide.
  • 17. Status Bar  Displays, on the left side, the page and line number, word count, and the Proof button. On the right side, displays buttons to control the look of the window.
  • 18. Quick Access Toolbar (QAT)  Displays buttons to perform frequently used commands with a single click. Frequently used commands in Word include Save, Undo, Redo, and Print. For commands that you use frequently, you can add additional buttons to the Quick Access Toolbar.
  • 19. Ribbon  Displays the commands on tabs, and then groups the commands by topic for performing related document tasks.  The Ribbon can also be minimized and customized to fit your work style.
  • 20. File Tab  Displays Microsoft Office Backstage view, which is a centralized space for all of your file management tasks such as opening, saving, printing, publishing, or sharing a file.
  • 21. Tabs  Display across the top of the Ribbon, and each tab relates to a type of activity; for example, laying out a page.
  • 22. Group name  Indicate the name of the groups of related commands on the displayed tab.
  • 23. Dialog box launcher  A small icon that displays to the right of some group names on the Ribbon; it launches a dialog box.
  • 24. Insertion point  Indicates, with a blinking vertical line, where text or graphics will be inserted.
  • 25. Print Layout button  The default view, which displays the page borders and the document as it will appear when printed.
  • 26. View Options  Contains buttons for viewing the document in Print Layout, Full Screen, Reading, Web Layout, Outline, or Draft views, and also displays controls to Zoom Out and Zoom In.
  • 27. Zoom Slider  The Zoom Slider increases or decreases the viewing area.
  • 28. Vertical scroll bar  Enables you to move up and down in a document to display text that is not visible.

  • 46. How are you going to move and copy?  Cut, copy and paste commands are more convenient way in copying or moving text in a longer distance.
  • 47. Cut  Is used to move the text from a document into a temporary storage called a clipboard.  The text is copied from the document and placed into the Clipboard.  Keyboard Shortcut: CTRL + X, SHIFT + DELETE
  • 48.  Copy  Is used to duplicate computer data by drawing it from the memory or disk and making another copy.  Keyboard Shortcut: CTRL + C, SHIFT + F2
  • 49. Paste  Is used to insert cut or copied text or graphics into a document at the insertion point from the temporary storage.  Keyboard Shortcut: CTRL + V, SHIFT + Insert
