La Farce de Maitre Pathelin- the character of Guillemette
La Farce de Maitre Pierre Pathelin has been called a little masterpiece . In comparison to most
earlier works of French medieval literature, it is highly complex in many aspects. In the words of
Cazamian, a high level of artistic creation is reached. This essay will focus on Guillemette and
study both her role in the play, and the complex nature of this character. Such a study should give
the reader an idea of the plays high level of artistic creation , and also illustrate some of the many
witty double meanings and underlying messages that are present right throughout the Farce.
Although Guillemette appears in only four of the ten scenes of the Farce (according to the scene
division in the modern French translation), she is much more ... Show more content on

In scene V, a similar comparison can be made between the intelligence of Guillemette and that of
the drapier. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and
Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman
would be more quick witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette
manages to completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene,
as in scenes I and III, Guillemette s cleverness is clear.
So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and,
unlike them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the
character with whom the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce,
where there is no narrator, one of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between
the characters and the audience. Such a character encourages the audience to feel more involved
in the play and to see it as a reflection of their own society. In the Farce and it is Guillemette who
plays this role, and it is in this way that she is most important. At no point does she address the
audience

The Role Of Loyalty In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
It is in the human condition to distinguish ourselves from those around us, to attempt to rise above
the turbulent sea of people that encompasses the Earth. Thousands of years ago, this meant being
stronger, faster, or smarter than the competition. Today, these attributes are still taken into account,
but a few more have been added to the spectrum. Fame, wealth, and power are all viewed today to
be distinguishing characteristics, so, naturally, humans have adapted to seek glory. However,
mankind s desperation for glory often results in the overstepping of boundaries, whether scientific,
moral, or societal, ultimately leading to the downfall of the seeker. Mary Shelley demonstrates this
concept in her Gothic novel Frankenstein. She utilizes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Victor, Walton, and the Creature s quests were unsuccessful due to their overstepping of scientific,
social, and moral bounds. In Victor s case, his downfall was the result of his haste to create a
sentient being for the glory that would result. This problem exists not only in Frankenstein, but in
the modern world as well. Today, with the world s newly advanced technology, innovators around
the globe are inquiring as to how to shatter the limits of science by creating a new series sentient
life. While the altering of DNA to create genetically modified humans is possible, albeit extremely
expensive, the process is highly scrutinized as to whether it is morally valid and within the realm of
what scientists are allowed to tinker with. Those against human modification say that, like
Frankenstein and his creature, the possibility for the process to go south is too great and shouldn
t be risked. Those in favor of the alteration respond with promises of bettering society through a
new, disease resistant, genetically superior species. They say that the creation of these
superhumans would result in a higher standard of living, and, of course, glory. Cautioned to us by
Mary Shelley almost 200 years ago and still true today, overstepping bounds in the pursuit of glory
is a dangerous act and will result in failure. After all, seeds of promise, if nurtured

Drunk Driving Research
Drivers under the influence are everywhere. On the roads of course, but also as close as in towns
and neighborhoods. It seems like everyone knows someone, caught or not, who has got in a car
after having a few drinks or taking drugs. That s because in the United States an estimated
300,000 people drive drunk each day (Madd). In 2013, 28.7 million people admitted to driving
after drinking alcohol. What is the national and state governments doing to stop those drivers?
For starters, only around 3,200 drunk drivers a day are caught and arrested.Of those arrested 50
75% of them will continue to drive on a suspended license. It usually takes around eighty instances
for a regular drunk or high driver to be caught. One of the easiest ways to get

Photographic Truth in the Digital Era Essay
Year 3 Individual Study Proposal Form
Name: Cristina Dan
Provisional Working Title: Photographic Truth in the Digital Era
Description of the Research Area (this should be no less than 500 words):
According to James Brooks, the manipulation of meaning to assure an audience would destroy the
reality of the work and debase the concept of communication. The essay will examine how images
are used nowadays in media to influence people s opinions rather than only for artistic purposes.
We are constantly surrounded by advertising. The main power of the images is prominent in
advertising where experts change images so that they no longer reflect the truth leading to
misinterpretation. A strong question is being raised upon this... Show more content on

There are also some advantages of images in the advertising area. For example, in some ads and
posters the image is hyperbolizing the negative sides of the product so that it could create a
positive impact on the consumer. For example, on the pack of cigarettes, the cruel and ugly
images lead to a fear that those health problems presented there will really look like that and
create a three times stronger impact. The images are produced and manipulated in someway so that
it serves to the purpose. The exaggerated images in pictures about failed plastic surgeries determine
people not to try to modify their body with unnecessary changes that could affect their health and
normally all the images from Masses that show bad things that happened with people s lives have a
strong influence on people not to do those things.
This topic rises up lots of questions and worries whether this altered reality of norms used by photo
manipulation and the issue of ethics comes to the front. How far can this photo manipulation go,
but still maintain photographic integrity? We as readers, do we have the right to know that an

Parkinson s Disease and Body Weight
Parkinson s Disease: Relationship with Parkinson s Disease and Body Weight Ethics are the key
to the safe and reliable supply of services within an industry. Modern medicine has several ethical
standards in place. The College of Nurses (CNO) states that considering ethical issues is essential
to providing care. The ethical framework is in place to guide nurses in the changing times of new
technology and to help prevent and work through ethical conflicts (College of Nurses, 2009, p. 3).
A registered practical nurse has been documenting her patient Mr. Gurt s weight inaccurately.

Gurt is already thin and weak; therefore his bones are as well and he is at a higher risk for
breaking bones or falling because he will have reduced strength. With weakened bones, he is at
risk for osteoporosis, joint pain and inflammation, arthritis, a weakened immune system, and
trouble regulating body temperature which can lead to very preventable complications. Mr.
Gurt s skin is breaking down partly due to environmental factors but mostly due to lack of care.
If the health care staff repositions Mr. Gurt every two to four hours, the rick of ulcers will
decrease, allowing for optimal skin integrity achievement. The registered practical nurse can be
charged with negligence and staff may receive suspension or loss of license to practice or with
restrictions. The nurse may have taught other staff members especially anyone who was new the
improper way to complete a task and documentation. Ultimately, the hospital could become subject
to legal questioning due to the absence of ethical practices. This can prove to be very problematic
as it holds the potential to result in a legal lawsuit due to the inaccuracy of patient information
maintenance. This can cause further implications on the evolution of the hospital as it will be
forced to deal with expenses regarding legal issues that could have been easily avoided. The
hospitals standards will be viewed as incomplete and or not enforced because the nurse has not been
confronted about her actions. The hospitals

Essay On Genetic Change
( removed HTML ) How is the Field of Human Genetics Changing? ( removed HTML )
Compared to just fifteen years ago the applications and horizons of genetic science have expanded
enormously, far beyond simply describing how DNA contributes to the formation of life here on
earth. The most important practical advances have built on the completion of the Human Genome
Project in 2003, started in 1990. At the associated research cost of over $3 billion US dollars
(c.$2.7 billion actual), a combined research initiative succeeded in fully sequencing the genomic
makeup of one human.
The prototype for human gene sequencing via chemical analysis that this process gave to science
has been refined over the last decade. Continuous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The complete implications and structure of our individual, unique genetic codes are still not
fully understood. However, genetic sequencing and research in the biological sciences have
opened up the potential to diagnose and treat genetic illnesses and key health vulnerabilities
through sequencing analysis at all stages of life. Doctors are better placed to identify the root
genetic causes of disorders and illnesses, as advances in associating certain bits of genetic code
to certain outcomes have expanded the number of known genetic links to maladies from 60 in
1990 to over 5000 (as of 2013). Future analysis of so called junk DNA with no obvious associations
to gene expression will form a large part of raising that number even further.
Individual genomic analysis allows for better targeted medication and the identification of tumor
causing DNA code. Pre natal genetic screening for genetic disorders and disabilities in a fetus can
also be performed via blood testing, reducing the need for other, invasive forms of medical testing.
The newly developed gene editing tool, CRISPR, also offers the possibility of eliminating or
changing defective genomic sections easily. While designer babies may still be science fiction,
these recent advances in genetic technology have taken us much closer to the possibility and ethical
implications of creating bespoke human beings.
From this, it seems that genetic

The Collapse Of The Ottoman Empire During World War One
Background Following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire during World War One, Britain and
France divided up the former Ottoman territories under the Sykes Picot Agreement in 1916, which
established French and British colonies, as well as asserted their respective spheres of influence in
the region. The borders drawn under this agreement, however, have caused crippling effects still
felt today; the Syrian territory was comprised of a Sunni majority, and Alawite (a Shi a sect), Druze
and Kurdish minorities. The present day Syrian Arab Republic emerged from this agreement, and
formally gained independence in 1945. The current Ba athist Regime came to power in 1963
following a coup d etat led by an Alawite minority dominated military, overthrowing the Sunni
majority, Western oriented, capitalist Sunni majority. Prior to the coup, Alawites utilized the
military as a means of social mobility in an otherwise Sunni dominated state. Dissatisfaction with
the effects of Sykes Picot, and the puppet regimes of European imperialism that were in place, led
to the Socialist Ba ath party s nationalist platform. Once in power, the Ba ath party established state
sponsored capitalism in an effort to take control of the landed elite dominated agrarian portion of
the economy. Interparty turmoil eventually brought Hafez al Assadto power in 1970, who ruled
until his death in 2000, when his son, Bashar al Assad(the current president) took over.

Emergency Management Research Paper
Abstract This paper will discuss some of the forms of violence that occurs following disasters.
Natural and man made disasters may result in significant devastation, causing a total collapse of the
affecting community, the law enforcement that oversees the community, availability of health care,
the displacement of people; all are contributing factors to potential violence. The resulting impact of
the affected community is significantly compounded on the most vulnerable. Emergency personnel
from their subsequent agencies are faced with the reality of potential violence against themselves
and the affected community. Mangers have to consider the social disruption caused by an event

The amount of anxiety and stress increases dramatically on a community following a natural or
man made disaster. Although disasters aren t directly responsible for violence both in the short
and long term after a disaster occurs, but they do contribute to the mental distress of those
impacted by the disaster. This mental distress is a direct result of the challenges that exist for the
affected population in meeting their daily essential needs. The lack of essential needs is
compounded by the lack of available health care as well as emergency services, resulting in a
breeding ground for potential violence. Planning for and taking new approaches towards mitigating
violence after disasters should focus primarily on ensuring assistance to the affected community is

How Does Katherine Mansfield Use Imagery In Miss Brill
When an individual experiences loneliness in his or her life, time will tell how they choose to
continue in order to escape the unpleasant feeling. In the short story of Miss Brill by Katherine
Mansfield, an older woman brings the atmosphere around her to life when she employs her vast
imagination during her visits to the park every Sunday. Compared to the normal, social human
being, Miss Brillis not one to face the stresses of life with confidence; in fact, she does not face
them at all when she attempts to create her own personal fantasy in order to escape the unkind

The intended scenery created by the author or the events experienced by other characters and
people in the short story is perceived differently in the mind of the old woman. An example of
this is when Miss Brill observes social encounters in the park, It was like a play, it was exactly
like a play. Who could believe the sky at the back wasn t painted? But it wasn t till a little brown
dog trotted on solemn and then slowly trotted off, like a little theatre dog, a little dog that had
been drugged...They were all on stage. They weren t only the audience, not only looking on;
they were acting (264 265). Miss Brill considers the park to be a lively place, a collective
performance in her fantasy, while others might only see the park as another public meeting place
or outdoor social spot. However, as readers may analyze further, the main character invents these
vivid daydreams only to remove her awareness from the real stresses and negatives that surround her

people have been constantly looking for the reason they did it but they actually did it for a number
of reasons, not just one like many people think. There is a number of reasons for why Dylan and
Eric did what they did, and why they clicked so well together. Dylan Klebold was a very smart kid

Eric Harris is described by experts as a textbook example of a psychopath. Just like Dylan, Eric
also did not feel like he fit in with other students despite the fact that Eric was more talkative and
was alot more outgoing than Dylan. Eric was also a very angry person but most most of the time
stayed very calm under pressure unlike Dylan, but he would rant about his anger on his own
personal website, a website filled with violent tirades against the people who were mean to Eric
or anyone he simply did not like. Eric was believed to be a psychopath with no remorse or
empathy for the things he was going to do which is most likely why he was so okay with killing
as many people as possible and really just releasing all his pinned up fury against the place that he
hated most. Dylan and Eric had a very strange chemistry between their often very different
personalities. Even though their personalities were often very different they were both very skilled
at math and even had a mutual love of technology. The reason these two really clicked though is
because they could play off each others strengths pretty well in a variety of situations. For example
when they had a run in with the cops Dylan often panicked but Eric remained

What Is Sweeteners Into Six Groups
Nutritionists agree that you should eat all forms of sugar in moderation, but almost in the same
breath, they claim that you can eat all the fruit and vegetables your heart desires. Don t they hear
themselves? If we eat all the fruit and vegetables we want, but limit the sugar, isn t that a little
contradictory? All fruits and vegetables have sugar!
It s human nature to want sweets. Even back in the hunter and gatherer days, we consumed some
form of sugar. The danger is that many of the so called sugars or sweeteners we have today are not
real sugar they re man made poisons passed off as sweeteners. In this section, we ll be talking about
the many forms of sugars and sweeteners, including the chemicals that are contained within them
and what they re doing to the human body. Many people think that they re created the same and
they re relatively healthy, but that s not the case.
It s easy to categorize sweeteners into six groups, as follows:
Natural sugars
Sugar alcohols
Caloric sweeteners
Natural zero calorie sweeteners
Modified sugars
Artificial sweeteners
Sugar Alcohols
These forms of sugars can be found naturally, just not in large quantity. They have fewer calories
per gram than sugar, and most importantly, are not known to cause tooth decay. Many sugars
alcohol come with some unpleasant side effects if consumed to excess. They are known to cause
bloating and diarrhea, as this form of sugar acts as a laxative. We are going to look at all of them

Suspense In The Landlady By Roald Dahl
Suspense; an element of writing that effectively gives anxiety to the reader, drawing them in
ever so closely. They can be created by the most obscure skepticisms and details developed by an
author s foreshadowing, particularly created by Roald Dahl. Dahl is known for many books and
short stories, especially due to his foreshadowing throughout all his stories. One of the best
examples of this is The Landlady , where Roald Dahluses foreshadowing in order to create a sense
of anxiety between the reader and the main character, Billy Weaver. In the story The Landlady ,
Roald Dahl incorporates realistic events such as Bath, England, hypnosis, and cyanidepoisoning to
develop suspense throughout the story. Dahl develops suspense throughout The Landlady by
introducing an unfamiliar location for Billy Weaver; Bath, England. Since Dahl set the story in
Bath, an undoubtedly shabby city, he increases Billy Weaver s tension, which many feel when
they are in a new place. Due to Billy s nervousness of the unaccustomed environment, he accepts
multiple peculiarities of the Landlady that he may not have at home. For instance, Billy fails to
recognize the odd selectiveness of applicants the Landlady has. But the trouble is that I am
inclined to be just a teeny weeny bit choosy and particular if you see what I mean (Dahl 2). Dahl
forms suspense with the reader as they begin to question whether Billy Weaver will discover the
Landlady s horrific intentions. However, it is quite

Government Conspiracy Theory
Government or Controlled Demolition The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated
terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al Qaeda in the United States on the morning of
Tuesday, September 11, 2001. They attacked the Twin Towers in New York City. There are different
conspiracy theories with the 9/11 attack but the most important conspiracy theory is that the
collapse of the twin towers were the result of controlled demolition by the government rather than
structural failure due to impact and fire. Now the question remains, was it controlled demolition or
was it terrorist attacking the World Trade Centeron purpose? This conspiracy theory revolves
around authorities knowing about the attackers and also guiding them to complete their terror
attack. None of the deaths would have happened without the deliberate unplugging of Americas air
defense. The twin tower did not fall of plane impacts or fire. People claim that jet fuel doesn t melt
steel beams. It was a controlled explosion by the government. Our mission is to expose the official
lies in a way that inspires the people to overcome denial and understand the truth. People want
answers to what happened that morning, devastation all around. Conspiracy theorists believe that
the government dismissed all the signs that were in their face because this attack was a controlled
demolition. Dr. Griffin concluded that, it is already possible to know, beyond a reasonable doubt,
one very important thing: the

before the outbreak of World War One in 1914. Tsarism has a long and troubled history frequently
changing its views and opinions whilst demanding full dedication from its citizens. Tsarism s woes
were amplified at the dawn of the 20th century. Tsarism refused modernisation in a modern world
which led to events of historical merit such as the Bloody Sunday Massacre, and the Lena
Goldfields massacre. However, World War One did play a significant role in inciting revolution
against the Tsarist regime.
The Tsarist autocracy inflicted its brutality upon the Russian people since Ivan III (Oxley, 2001)
until the death of Tsar Nicholas II, a reign spanning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Russia was performing dismally in the Russo Japanese war which took a heavy toll on the
standard of living in Russia. An immense amount of supplies and able bodied soldiers were
being carted away on the now military only Trans Siberian railway, all of which took a heavy
toll on the already weakened economy (Wormald, 2017). Father Gapon, a charismatic priest
living in St. Petersburg, ran the Assembly of Russian Factory Workers, and found himself
surrounded by many anti tsar extremists, and became an important historical figure when
examining the fall of Tsarism (Simkin, 1997). A peaceful protests lead by Father Gapon
marched towards the winter palace on January 9th, 1905, which was then fired upon by
Cossacks, hundreds were killed. (Tsarist Russia, 1905 14: The death throes of any autocracy)
Political / Revisionist Historian Alexei Anisin states that, the Massacre dislocated the Tsarist state
and stripped... [the Tsar] of his title divine monarch . This divide between the Tsar and his people
rippled through all aspects of Russian society, peasants, workers, soldiers, and sailors all felt
drastically less connected and indebted to the Tsar. The Revolution of 1905 was the spark that

Did Marco Polo Go To China
Tiffany Tran

1st Period
Dear Editor, Everyone has been wondering if Marco Polo ever went to China. There has been
proof that he did go to China and proof that he did not. Years after Marco Polo s legendary travels,
scholars debate whether the famous explorer ever reached went further than the Black Sea, yet
China. I believe that Marco Polo did go to China because of all the evidence I have heard and
seen. Marco Polo was born in the 1200s. He was born into a family tradesmen and his education
was like a merchant s. Around the age of 15, his father left on a journey for 9 years and during
those years his mom dies. When he was 20 years old, he started his journey. He passes through a
powerful desert towards the east and was soon by the border of China. Marco was brought to the
emperor and returns home after 12 years. According to Polo, cowries, salt, gold and silver were the
main currencies in other parts of China, such as Fujian and Yunnan. The Venetian traveler s
description of salt production was also accurate and unique. Not only did he list the most important
salt production centers, but he described the methods used to make salt and detailed the value of
salt production. This and other information, the accuracy of which has not yet been fully
appreciated, indicate that Marco Polo really did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

People Across The Nation By Fred Astaire
Throughout time there has been a constant ebb and flow of civilizations developing, imploding or
being actively destroyed by stronger societies. From the Renaissance to the World Wars, the
existence of the human race has never been a question. Even through times of despair and
prosperity, the human race has persisted and even advanced itself. Improvements in technology,
medicine, education, and communication have increased the life capacity, expectancy, and
satisfaction of people every day. However, even with these well intentioned efforts to improve the
humanrace, ultimately our humanity has been adversely affected. Instead, we are now driven by a
selfish desire to advance our personal agendas and achieve celebrity status. These misguided
behaviors have become the new norm .
Fred Astaire sums this surrender of compassion into one amazing quote: The hardest job kids face
today is learning good manners without seeing any. Even though Astaire s statement contradicts the
beliefs of many people across the nation, it shows insight into the true problem. Positive social
interactions are no longer a normalized aspect of human life. While the vanishing of respect for one
another has hit the mainstream more recently; the issue has been around for multiple centuries.
This pattern and its consequences had already drawn the attention of European and American
observers by the early 19th century (Fass 85). Yet, we have not tried to fix the issue, but only
allowed the bad behavior

James Chadwick Research Paper
Just In! James Chadwick Has Discovered The Neutron! It was a great day in May of 1932 and
when we finally received answers to the other particle in the nucleus. After many years of
questions and theories; one man James Chadwick has discovered a new uncharged particle, the
neutron. Chadwick had been studying to find this particle since 1914 in Germany with Hans
Geiger, unfortunately due to World War I he was arrested and his studies were put on halt.
Although he was in prison he was still able to do some scientific studies after creating a science
club with some fellow prisoners; and convincing the guards to allow them to have a lab. Eventually
he was released and return to England where he earned his PhD at Cambridge with Ernest

This information has not always been know to man though. Thankfully scientist such as J.J
Thompson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick were able to perform experiments to shed
more light on what the atom was made of. The electron was first found in 1897 by J.J Thompson;
shortly after in 1911 the nucleus was discovered by Rutherford, leading to him later discovering the
proton in 1919. Before James Chadwick discovered the neutron many scientists believed that there
were additional protons in the nucleus, along with the equal number of electrons to cancel out the
additional charge. Then in 1920 Rutherford thought that the protons plus the electrons made up a
new particle but it was never confirmed. After a few years of study John Chadwick was able to
discover the neutron through unidentified radiation experiments, one experiment in particular
caught his eye FrГ©dГ©ric and IrГЁne Joliot Curie had studied unidentified radiation from
beryllium as it hit a paraffin wax target. This experiment encouraged Chadwick to do some of his
own experiments in 1932 which made him believe that the radiation ejected from beryllium was in
fact a neutral particle about the mass of a proton. He also tried many other targets besides the
paraffin wax, these included helium, nitrogen, and lithium. These experiments led Chadwick to
find the the mass of the new particle was more than the proton, he also found out that the neutrons

The Promotion Of Pupil Voice
The promotion of pupil voice is a complex task which demands the commitment of the entire school
community. Critically discuss the rationale for the development of pupil voice throughout all
aspects of school life and consider how teachers and senior managers can facilitate pupils in
forming and voicing opinions while also ensuring the equality of opportunity for all.
The term pupil voice refers to ways of listening to the views of pupils and/or involving them in
decision making. (Department for Education, 2014, p.1) The term and practice of Pupil Voice has
featured within the UK since the early 1990 s, when Professor Jean Rudduck pioneered the concept
with numerous ground breaking research projects throughout the UK. These series of research
projects investigated and presented how pupil voice strategies could be employed within the
classroom and the wider school context to enhance teaching, learning and the general experience
of school for pupils. Since this early research around this concept, the term and practice has
considerably grown into a very current topic within education today and is a concept which every
enterprising school should be aspiring to adapt within their day to day running of their school.
Many schools choose to promote the concept of pupil voice through the form of student councils.
Whitty and Wisby (2007) present their findings in a report for the Institute of Education, University
of London that out of 2417 of pupils surveyed, 85 per cent stated

Essay On The Crusades
The word crusade is from a French term that mean to lift the cross. The word is used to describe
the early military War or the campaigns by early Christians against Muslims. The Crusades were
military campaigns sanctioned by the Roman Catholic Church during the High and Late Medieval
Ages. In The year 1095, Pope Urban the Second proclaimed the First Crusade with the goal of
restoring Christian admission to holy places in and Around Jerusalem. Following this First Crusade
there was an alternating over 100 years struggle for dominance over the Holy Land, with seven
more major crusadesand numerous minor ones, These Muslims controlled the holy land (currently
they are Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon and Israel) subsequently (Slack in 2003) and Christian all

Muslim state that was very commanding. Saladin overthrew the crusaders easily and seized

Annie Dillard s An Exploration Into The Way Human Beings
At some point in each of our lives we will take a step back and look at the way we are living our
lives and wonder if we are living them correctly. This is exactly what annie dilliard does in this
essay.
Annie Dillard s essay is just an exploration into the way human beings might live. When she sees a
weasel, she looks into the life of that weasel. Studying how it lives its life. Then she compares it to
humans. Human beings are creatures of caution and fear. We never fully live our lives because
we are too caught up with avoiding risks. We think, debate, and calculate each and every move
while weasels just simply act. A weasel is a creature of action and instinct. A weasel lives its life
the way it was created to, not questioning his motives, simply striking when the time is right. I agree
with Dillard s idea that we might learn something of mindlessness, something of the purity of living
in the physical senses and the dignity of living without bias or motive (Dillard 210).
The thing that keeps human beings from living the purest life possible, like the weasel is our
minds. To live freely we need to live our lives with less hesitation and fear. Dillard says we should
forget our ability of thought and choice all together. But the way we live should not be simply
thrown away for a chance to live completely free of bias or motive (Dillard 210). We have our
morals, conscience, emotions, and values. We have the ability to think and feel at the same time.

Traditional Ground Based Teams And Virtual Teams
There are several differences and alike between traditional ground based teams and virtual teams
when individuals begin to work together as a team. In a common setting such as a classroom or a
specific department in a company, teams are assigned and begin to work together by discussing the
details of a project and assign tasks to each member. In this case, students or colleagues begin to
work much quicker than in a virtual setting because the exchange of communicationis much faster.
In contrast, virtual teams have to first determine what method of communication would be
appropriate for all members of the team. Next, they have to wait for all members to respond and
then they can execute the best method of communication for the virtual team. According to Berry
(2011), Virtual team members can be located across the office, but almost as easily across the
country or across the world, and may rarely or perhaps never meet face to face. As team members
become more reliant on computer mediated communication technologies, the more virtual they
become. However, today most traditional teams use technological devices to continue work outside
the classroom or office. Therefore, traditional teams model a virtual team, and if members take
advantage of the resources, it can strengthen the team. There are implications that can potentially
cause negative outcomes to both, traditional or virtual teams. Virtual teams face a quandary when
members share less information, are not clear about

abdomen without contrast and two portable x rays of the kidney, ureters, and bladder (KUB).
The CT scan of the abdomen was ordered for evaluation of abdominal discomfort on February 5,

conditions in the abdominal cavity. The CT image results from passing X rays through the
abdominal organs at different angles (Pagana Pagana, 2010). As different organs have different
tissue densities, each density is given a numeric value in which these areas turn a shade of gray

A nursing diagnosis is obtained during the initial assessment and acts as an outline for the nurse to
follow in terms of how to provide appropriate prioritized care. Prioritization of care is placed in
order of patient s immediate survival and demand for safety. For these reason, nursing diagnoses are
organized in importance by looking at airway, breathing, and circulation (Herdman, 2016).
Interventions are also dependent on a nursing diagnosis. The selection as to which intervention will
be implemented is based upon the patient s current health status. If the patient s airway, breathing,

The civil rights movement influenced the women s liberation movement in four key ways. First, it
provided women with a model for success on how a successful movement should organize itself.
Second, the civil rights movement broadened the concept of leadership to include women. Third,
by fighting for equality, the civil rights movement changed the culture of advocacy and made social
justice a legitimate cause. Finally, by eventually excluding women, the civil rights movement
spurred women to organize their own movement. Without the civil rights movement, the women s

Black women eventually earned college and graduate degrees and sought full time employment

left an impression of women as powerful and determined activists. Jo An Robinson and Ella
Baker are just two of the many women who were able to take charge and make an impact on the
movement. Robinson led the Women s Political Council, which plotted strategy for a one day

to lend their churches for mass meetings and was able to tap into a new minister in town,

Spiral of Silence Theory
Spiral of Silence Theory Elizabeth Noelle Neumann s spiral of silence is a theory that was
developed in 1974 and as the founder and the director of the Public Opinion Research Center in
Allensbach in Germany; she has found evidence of how the spread of public opinion is formed.
The term spiral of silence refers to the increasing pressure people feel to conceal their views they
think they are the minority. People will be unwilling to publicly express their opinion if they are
in the minority and they will also be more vocal if they believe they are a part of the majority.
Thus, the more marginalized you become, the less you speak and so you spiral into a fully
marginalized position. Neumann s claim are based on previous collaborative... Show more content

It is used to reveal a series of factors that measures the likelihood that people will voice their
opinions. There are six factors and the first one is the most important: 1. Those who favor the
majority position are willing to express their voice more comfortably. Feeling in harmony with
the spirit of the age loosens the tongue. [Griffin, Em. Spiral of Silence. A First Look at
Communciation Theory. 7th ed. N.p.: McGraw Hill, n.d. N. pag. Print. 2. If perception of the
present opinon does not match the climate of the conversation, the willingness to speak will
depend on how well the conversation continues on. 3. People are more willing to speak if their
views match their counterparts than to those who disagree. 4. Low self esteem will cause a
person to mute their opinion more often than others. 5. Males, young adults, and people of the
middle and upper classes tend to speak out more easily. 6. Existing law encourages people to
express their opinion when they feel outnumbered. The Supreme Court s Roe v Wade is a good
example. Now that we know the building blocks of the spiral of silence, we can get to root of
Noelle Neumann s model of her theory leading to her main point and the last factor, fear of
isolation. The fear of isolation is the centrifugal force that accelerates the spiral of silence.
Essentially, people fear becoming social isolates and thus take measures to avoid such a
consequence. Her assumption is drawn

Analyzing Howard Becker s Labeling Theory
Labeling Theory
The labeling theory is another important theory in the groups of sociological theories. It essentially
states that no acts is intrinsically deviant, but rather are established by those in power through the
formulation of laws and the interpretation of those laws by police and criminal justice system
(Schmalleger, 2014). In other words until someone or a group in society says that XYZ is an
illegal act then it is considered non deviant (Schmalleger, 2014).
The person associated more often than not with the labeling theory is Howard Becker. Howard
Becker in the 1950s used symbolic interactionist approach to study deviance and focused on the
way in which negative labels get applied to individuals and on the consequences that this
labeling process creates (Becker, n.d.). In his 1950 s book Outsiders, Howard Becker focused
his attentions on what he called moral entrepreneurs or those who engage in the process of
getting particular behaviors and acts as being deviant and therefore illegal. As an example think
about marijuana laws as opposed to laws against alcohol. Smoking marijuana was deemed illegal
while alcohol is approved by society (Becker, n.d.). Howard Becker felt that most individuals who
were given a label were the misfortune victim of an act deemed deviant and never ... Show more

This theory has also been criticized for its primary focus on a relatively limited range of
behaviors. It lacks the awareness of everyday crime such as property crime. Finally the labeling
theory does not say much on those who engage in deviant behavior in secret, or those who are
simply never caught committing a crime. So since they are not given a label it stands reasonable to

Causes and Effects of Bullying Bullying is a big issue that spreads through the world. It can
happen to anyone of all ages, and in numerous ways. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior
among people that involves a real or perceived power imbalance that either repeats or has the
potential to repeat, overtime (Bullying Definition). There are so many factors that tie into
bullying such as, why the bully is actually bullying, why the bully chose that victim, or even the
effects that occur while the bullying is taking place. Low self esteem is a common reason why
someone would want to bully a person. Low self esteem is the lack of pride a person feels in
themselves. Often times a bully feels like they are less than others and the only way for them to
feel better about themselves is to try to bring others down. A lot of bullies aren t trying to hurt
someone physically, they use words and certain remarks to torture a person, making that person
feel just as less as them just to uplift their own self esteem. Although low self esteem is a cause
narcissism is also a factor to bullying. Not only can a bully feel less of themselves but they can
also feel that they are higher or better than others. Cockiness is a trait seen in many bullies. This
may show in people such as jocks at a high school, or a fellow co worker that may have a higher
position or make a higher salary.
There are a lot of cases where a bully is getting bullied

The Ethics Of The Enron Case
Introduction The Enron case is well known for being the largest corporate bankruptcy in American
history. Thousands of people world wide lost billions of dollars, lost life savings, and lost their
jobs. Due to the vast corruption, greed and the blatant disregard for integrity from the very top of
Enronleadership, world markets crumbled and investor confidence in corporate America was
severely damaged (Chandra, 2003.)
We will look at the accounting fraud committed by Enron executives and interested parties. We will
run their accounting tactics through the Utility Ethics test to determine if there were alternative
actions that would have been considered ethical as determined by the test.

Under the theory, Enron power broker actions (deceptive accounting, manipulating accounting
numbers, keeping two sets of accounting books, etc.) are not the driving factors in determining
good or bad for the group. It is the outcome or by product as a result of the actions that are to be
considered (Velasquez, et al, 1989). The bottom line is: if more good than bad is the result for the
most people then the behavior will be considered as ethical.
STEP 1: Alternative actions and the Enron stakeholders affected by these actions The choices are
Course of Action (COA) 1, Enron leaders follow time tested, trusted, and ethical accounting
practices or Course of Action (COA) 2, Enron leaders put aside professional ethics for personal
economic gain. The stakeholders are many. Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling, Andrew Fastow, other high level
executives, board of trustees, Enron employees, outside partnerships to include foreign countries,
investors, and the accounting firm Arthur Anderson and its thousands of employees. The
stakeholders are in the tens of thousands and maybe exceeding 100,000 thousand people.
STEP 2: COA 1 and COA 2 benefits and costs to each person or group affected. We will first
consider COA 1. Enron at one time was a great company that hired good people that believed in
doing things right, and they were known for being a model corporation. In fact in 1999 Enron was

Ambiguity In Emily Bronte s Remembrance
In the poem Remembrance, Emily Bronte writes about a person who mourns the death of a loved
one. Since no names are explicitly given, however, ambiguity surrounds the identity of the speaker
and loved one. One interpretation is that the persona is Bronte herself, having lost her mother and
sisters at a young age. Another interpretation is that the persona is simply a figure through which
Bronte expresses the general experiences of love, loss, and memory. However, after reading the
poem, it is hard to imagine someone crafting such a powerful piece without having personally
experienced something similar. Nevertheless, throughout the poem, the speaker experiences tension
between letting go of and holding onto memories of the past, as shown through... Show more

In the first half of the poem, the speaker mainly seems to be in mourning. However, in the sixth
stanza, the speaker suddenly shifts her tone, focusing on how she has grown from the painful
experience. In fact, the speaker claims to have learned to appreciate life without the aid of joy
(24), which suggests a greater will to live and be present mentally and physically. Despite her
claims, however, in the final stanza, the speaker acknowledges the rapturous pain of remembering
and ends the poem with a rhetorical question: How could I seek the empty world again? (32). This
question seems to resolve the tension between forgetting and remembering by insinuating that she
would rather live with the memories of the past, where she finds

The Federal Reserve System ( Money )
^The Federal Reserve System Money, it certainly does make the world go round, and the reason it
is able to do so, is because people have trust in this little piece of paper. Around the globe there is
no piece of paper that inspires more confidence. Officially, the US Dollar bills are Federal Reserve
notes. Every note that is spent or received is part of a complex organization known as the Federal
Reserve System. The Federal Reserve System is the integral component that keeps the American
banking system afloat. It is, in essence, the governing body of banking and is responsible for
many policies, laws, and regulations that have shaped the American banking system into what it
is today. This institution has garnered a lot of support, as well as faced a lot of backlash in
times of financial turmoil. However, observing the facts and analyzing the history of the Federal
Reserve System will show that is has largely been a positive force in America. The Federal
Reserve System plays a large role in both the national and world economies and is therefore
heavily scrutinized. Under such scrutiny, one can find that a positive and significant relationship
exists between the Federal Reserve System and the economy because of the policies the Federal
Reserve enacts, the Federal Reserve s regulation of interest rates, and the Federal Reserve s
response to crises in direct connection to economic stability. In order to firmly grasp the driving
concepts behind the Federal Reserve s policies

World History in Context Essay
Rebecca Nichols
HIS 140 A History of Humanity
Essay 1
World History in Context, written by David Christian (2003), questions the context of world history
as well as the complexity of human history and the societies with which they live. In Christian s
article he argues that looking at world history in its global context, rather than one specific moment
in history, is the way it is intended to be interpreted and allows historians to recognize reoccurring
patterns and themes. World history is meant to be an unbiased account of only one specific species,
humans (Christian 2003, 437 438). Historians often struggle with this challenging topic and tend to
produce works extremely biased, usually towards stable western civilizations and ... Show more

Though more complex, they are also more fragile and rare because the consumption of large
energy flows is a challenging task (McNeill 2003, 319 320). For example, the colossal increase in
size of the human brain over the past four million years has left us with the most complex structure
in the universe, consuming the largest amount of energy proportionate to its size (Ponting 2000,
24). The brain consumes twenty percent of the energy necessary for the body but only accounts for
two percent of its body mass (Christian 2003, 455). This statistic clarifies doubt that the brain is
anything other than an energy hoarding structure, just as others of similar complexity.
Human societies have also evolved from simple structures of early hunting and gathering
communities to the more complex cosmopolitan cities of today. The hunting and gathering
communities were fairly simple societies demanding the minimum of resources. Complexity grew
with farming communities and more energy was necessary to sustain the larger populations and
the demands of a stable, non nomadic life. Early civilizations saw an increase in complexity with
the introduction of specialization and trade. Which, again, required more energy to sustain even
larger communities. Cultural evolution has evolved so much that cities today are only possible
because of humans ability to control energy by the movement of food across large distances to
easily accessible locations (McNeill 2003, 320 321).

The Hunger Games The Capitol
In The Hunger Games the Capitol is a place of vast wealth while the districts especially the
districts of eleven and twelve are living in poverty. This wealth that the Capitol has it a type of
social control because it keeps the districts from being able to gain the ability to fight back against
the Capitol due to their povertystatus. The poverty in the districts is so bad that Katniss Everdeen
from District Twelve requires that she break a law of the Capitol s, which is not leaving the
fenced area. She does this in order to keep her and her family from starving to death. Katniss
states, Technically, Gale and I could be whipped on a daily basis for poaching in the woods
(Collins 202 203). This poverty is also seen in District Eleven when Rue says, I ve never had a
whole leg to myself before (202). Rue also talks about how they grow food but they are not
allowed to eat it. (202) The Capitol makes it illegal to go outside the Districts because it could
lead to the Districts to banding together and creating another rebellion and it is a means for
Katniss to keep herself fed without relying on the Capitol to survive from starving to death. This is
an issue of social control the Capitol is deliberately keeping the Districts hungerto have ultimate
power over them. They also have a system called a tesserae which allows the children who are
eligible for the reaping to get a year s supply of grain and oil for one person (13). They get his if

Behavioral Effects Of Cannabis
Cannabis contains more than 400 different chemicals including phytocannabinoids, terpenoids and
essential oils (ElSohly and Slade, 2005); however, the behavioral effects of cannabis (i.e. euphoria,
relaxation, anxiety, confusion, memory loss, and paranoia) are primarily the result of the
psychoactive ingredient, О”9 tetrahydrocannabinol(THC) (Adams and Martin, 1996; Wachtel et
al., 2002; Hall and Degenhardt, 2009). The behavioral effects of THC are largely mediated by its
action as a partial agonist at the G protein coupled cannabinoid type 1 (CB1) receptor, which is the
most abundantly expressed G protein coupled receptor in the brain. In particular, CB1 receptors
have dense expression in brain regions involved in reward, addiction, and cognitive

Homeless Children And Youth Assistance Act
Bradfords Helping Home
Bradfords Helping Home is a Shelter that will help the families and youth of Starke Florida who
are experiencing homelessness. Homelessness is a growing concern in our society today and not
just in Starke. In The United States on any given night, there are approximately 643,067 people
experiencing homelessness. In Bradford county there are approximately 6.9% of only the student
population and not the adults of the community experiencing homelessness. This may not seem
like a very large number but it is. These numbers should never be allowed to get this high. This is
a growing concern in Starke as we are getting at least two to three new students who are
considered homeless and put under the McKinney Vento Act. The McKinney Vento Education of
Homeless Children and Youth Assistance Act is a federal law that ensures immediate enrollment
and educational stability for homeless children and youth. McKinney Vento provides federal
funding to states for the purpose of supporting district programs that serve homeless students (
With my mother being the McKinny Vinto liaison in Bradford county I have learned of how
serious this problem is. I would like to be able to support these children, youth, and families in
helping them get back up on their feet and to be able to have a place to go if they are experiencing
homelessness. Bradords Helping Homes main mission is to help Families and the youth who are
experiencing homelessness.

Imagery in Slaughterhouse-Five
Kurt Vonnegut s uses many images to enhance the overall effect of Slaughterhouse Five.
Throughout the novel, in both war scenes and in the protagonist s travels back and forward in
time, the many images produce a believable story of the unusual life of Billy Pilgrim. Vonnegut
uses color imagery, repetitive images, and images of pain and suffering to develop the novel and
create situations that the reader can accept and comprehend.
Billy Pilgrim s life is far from normal. Throughout most of his adult life he has been moving
backwards and forwards through time, from one event to another, in a non sequential order. At
least, this schizophrenic life is hard to understand. Because Vonnegut wants the reader to relate to

and vivid depiction of colors enables the reader to relate to the experience.
Vonnegut also uses many images in a repetitive fashion. He talks about the blue and ivoryfeet
several times, as well as the pattern of orange and black that appears both on the train taking
prisoners to the war camp and on the wedding tent for Billy s daughter (69, 72). Furthermore,
sleepers (Vonnegut and his wife, people in the prison camps) are repeatedly described as being
quot;nestled like spoons quot; (70). Another common image is that of moonlight in chapter four. In
several places during this chapter, the image of moonlight suggests a mood of serenity and
stillness. Additionally, the image of the soldiers hobbling up and down is repeated several times.
This image stretches from the relentless bobbing up and down, up and down of the soldiers to the
Tralfamadorian novel where the characters quot;certainly had their ups and downs, ups and downs
quot; (87).
Another important technique is Vonnegut s use of dark, grizzly images of pain and suffering.
Many of the long, descriptive passages of the novel are grotesque stories from the war or terrible
memories from Billy Pilgrim s consciousness. One of these images involves a latrine

the world cup for cricket, rugby, and soccer, the vast history due to the colonialization of Africaby

Another major part of South Africa is the sports seen there. South Africa s main sports are rugby,
cricket, and soccer. I am a huge sports fanatic, however I am not as interested in South African
sports as I would like to be. South Africa has such a dedication to its sports that it is the only
country which has hosted the world cup in rugby, soccer, and cricket. South Africa hosted the rugby
world cup in 1995, the cricket world cup in 2003, and the soccer world cup in 2010. I would love

point, South Africa s unique sights. South Africa is also known for its breathtaking sights which
include the Kruger National Park, Table Mountain, Blyde River Canyon, and the Hluhluwe

of South Africa in their natural habitat, or look over all of South Africa from the mountain and

Summary Of Fahrenheit 451
It was a red stained brick house. An old house with steps in the front, a door on the side, and a
rather large white window in the front of the house. Some days, you can hear pieces of Bach,
Chopin, Mozart, and Beethoven playing softly.
Inside the house, it was quite empty. Pure white walls, dark stained wood flooring, and black
furniture. The staircases were wooden and well worn, complementing the intricacies of the shade
around the house. Two men walk into the house.
One of the men was Guy Montag, who nearly a year ago was a fugitive. He had the ironic
occupation of being a fireman that led to his demise. A mixture of guilt, grief, and disgust led him
to become a rebel , and under the forcible guiding of his conscience and Granger, ... Show more

him greatly in the past. It was his turn to help him. Montag jerks away from Clarisse, walking

statue. Come on, little girl. She looks at him with a smirk, running towards him. Montag gives her a
surprised look, just a minute ago she was all hesitant.
I m not a little girl Montag, I m 18, she says seriously.
Montag casts her a small smile, looking towards Faber, and begins to walk faster. Soon, they
arrive at the infirmary, only to see Granger. Granger gives the two newcomers a strange look.
Who are they?
This is Clarisse and Faber, I knew them before the bombing.
L l l l Montag lays Faber down on a makeshift hospital bed and starts tending to his wounds.
Clarisse sat down on a chair next to the bed, peering over at Montag, Faber, and Granger,
occasionally. Eventually, Montag finished patching Faber up. He looked like a half wrapped
mummy. White bandages trail up his fragile, old arms and his torso. Faber slowly falls asleep on
the bed, a small book falling out of his jacket pocket, the Holy Bible. Same Faber as always,
muttered Montag, glancing towards Clarisse, who sat there staring into space. You re still here?
Montag looks at her.
Yeah. She sits there, fiddling with the corners of her white dress.

The primary key attribute cannot be discretionary which means it should not possess null values.
The primary key cannot have repeating values which means the attribute may not have more

Entities with compound primary keys cannot be split into multiple entities with simpler primary
keys. This is called the Smallest Key Rule.
As we know that a foreign key is an attribute that completes a relationship by identifying the parent
entity. Let me explain how to identify the foreign keys that every dependent and subtype entity in
the model must have a foreign key for each relationship in which it participates. Foreign keys are
formed in dependent and subtype entities by migrating the entire primary key from the parent
entity. If the primary key is composite, it may not be split.
Foreign key attributes are not considered to be owned by the entities to which they migrate, because
they are reflections of attributes in the parent entities. Thus, each attribute in an entity is either
owned by that entity or belongs to a foreign key in that entity.
If the primary key of a child entity contains all the attributes in a foreign key, the child entity is
said to be identifier dependent on the parent entity, and the relationship is called an identifying
relationship. If any attributes in a foreign key do not belong to the child s primary key,

  • 2. La Farce de Maitre Pathelin- the character of Guillemette La Farce de Maitre Pierre Pathelin has been called a little masterpiece . In comparison to most earlier works of French medieval literature, it is highly complex in many aspects. In the words of Cazamian, a high level of artistic creation is reached. This essay will focus on Guillemette and study both her role in the play, and the complex nature of this character. Such a study should give the reader an idea of the plays high level of artistic creation , and also illustrate some of the many witty double meanings and underlying messages that are present right throughout the Farce. Although Guillemette appears in only four of the ten scenes of the Farce (according to the scene division in the modern French translation), she is much more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In scene V, a similar comparison can be made between the intelligence of Guillemette and that of the drapier. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman would be more quick witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette manages to completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene, as in scenes I and III, Guillemette s cleverness is clear. So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and, unlike them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the character with whom the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce, where there is no narrator, one of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between the characters and the audience. Such a character encourages the audience to feel more involved in the play and to see it as a reflection of their own society. In the Farce and it is Guillemette who plays this role, and it is in this way that she is most important. At no point does she address the audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Role Of Loyalty In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein It is in the human condition to distinguish ourselves from those around us, to attempt to rise above the turbulent sea of people that encompasses the Earth. Thousands of years ago, this meant being stronger, faster, or smarter than the competition. Today, these attributes are still taken into account, but a few more have been added to the spectrum. Fame, wealth, and power are all viewed today to be distinguishing characteristics, so, naturally, humans have adapted to seek glory. However, mankind s desperation for glory often results in the overstepping of boundaries, whether scientific, moral, or societal, ultimately leading to the downfall of the seeker. Mary Shelley demonstrates this concept in her Gothic novel Frankenstein. She utilizes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Victor, Walton, and the Creature s quests were unsuccessful due to their overstepping of scientific, social, and moral bounds. In Victor s case, his downfall was the result of his haste to create a sentient being for the glory that would result. This problem exists not only in Frankenstein, but in the modern world as well. Today, with the world s newly advanced technology, innovators around the globe are inquiring as to how to shatter the limits of science by creating a new series sentient life. While the altering of DNA to create genetically modified humans is possible, albeit extremely expensive, the process is highly scrutinized as to whether it is morally valid and within the realm of what scientists are allowed to tinker with. Those against human modification say that, like Frankenstein and his creature, the possibility for the process to go south is too great and shouldn t be risked. Those in favor of the alteration respond with promises of bettering society through a new, disease resistant, genetically superior species. They say that the creation of these superhumans would result in a higher standard of living, and, of course, glory. Cautioned to us by Mary Shelley almost 200 years ago and still true today, overstepping bounds in the pursuit of glory is a dangerous act and will result in failure. After all, seeds of promise, if nurtured ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Photographic Truth in the Digital Era Essay Year 3 Individual Study Proposal Form Name: Cristina Dan Provisional Working Title: Photographic Truth in the Digital Era Description of the Research Area (this should be no less than 500 words): According to James Brooks, the manipulation of meaning to assure an audience would destroy the reality of the work and debase the concept of communication. The essay will examine how images are used nowadays in media to influence people s opinions rather than only for artistic purposes. We are constantly surrounded by advertising. The main power of the images is prominent in advertising where experts change images so that they no longer reflect the truth leading to misinterpretation. A strong question is being raised upon this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also some advantages of images in the advertising area. For example, in some ads and posters the image is hyperbolizing the negative sides of the product so that it could create a positive impact on the consumer. For example, on the pack of cigarettes, the cruel and ugly images lead to a fear that those health problems presented there will really look like that and create a three times stronger impact. The images are produced and manipulated in someway so that it serves to the purpose. The exaggerated images in pictures about failed plastic surgeries determine people not to try to modify their body with unnecessary changes that could affect their health and normally all the images from Masses that show bad things that happened with people s lives have a strong influence on people not to do those things. This topic rises up lots of questions and worries whether this altered reality of norms used by photo manipulation and the issue of ethics comes to the front. Parkinson s Disease and Body Weight Parkinson s Disease: Relationship with Parkinson s Disease and Body Weight Ethics are the key to the safe and reliable supply of services within an industry. Modern medicine has several ethical standards in place. The College of Nurses (CNO) states that considering ethical issues is essential to providing care. The ethical framework is in place to guide nurses in the changing times of new technology and to help prevent and work through ethical conflicts (College of Nurses, 2009, p. 3). A registered practical nurse has been documenting her patient Mr. Gurt s weight inaccurately. Patient care is a very important element that must be handled with respect and great care. Gurt is already thin and weak; therefore his bones are as well and he is at a higher risk for breaking bones or falling because he will have reduced strength. With weakened bones, he is at risk for osteoporosis, joint pain and inflammation, arthritis, a weakened immune system, and trouble regulating body temperature which can lead to very preventable complications. Mr. Gurt s skin is breaking down partly due to environmental factors but mostly due to lack of care. If the health care staff repositions Mr. Gurt every two to four hours, the rick of ulcers will decrease, allowing for optimal skin integrity achievement. The registered practical nurse can be charged with negligence and staff may receive suspension or loss of license to practice or with restrictions. The nurse may have taught other staff members especially anyone who was new the improper way to complete a task and documentation. Ultimately, the hospital could become subject to legal questioning due to the absence of ethical practices. This can prove to be very problematic as it holds the potential to result in a legal lawsuit due to the inaccuracy of patient information maintenance. This can cause further implications on the evolution of the hospital as it will be forced to deal with expenses regarding legal issues that could have been easily avoided. The hospitals standards will be viewed as incomplete and or not enforced because the nurse has not been confronted about her actions. The hospitals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay On Genetic Change ( removed HTML ) How is the Field of Human Genetics Changing? ( removed HTML ) Compared to just fifteen years ago the applications and horizons of genetic science have expanded enormously, far beyond simply describing how DNA contributes to the formation of life here on earth. The most important practical advances have built on the completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003, started in 1990. At the associated research cost of over $3 billion US dollars (c.$2.7 billion actual), a combined research initiative succeeded in fully sequencing the genomic makeup of one human. The prototype for human gene sequencing via chemical analysis that this process gave to science has been refined over the last decade. Continuous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The complete implications and structure of our individual, unique genetic codes are still not fully understood. However, genetic sequencing and research in the biological sciences have opened up the potential to diagnose and treat genetic illnesses and key health vulnerabilities through sequencing analysis at all stages of life. Doctors are better placed to identify the root genetic causes of disorders and illnesses, as advances in associating certain bits of genetic code to certain outcomes have expanded the number of known genetic links to maladies from 60 in 1990 to over 5000 (as of 2013). Future analysis of so called junk DNA with no obvious associations to gene expression will form a large part of raising that number even further. Individual genomic analysis allows for better targeted medication and the identification of tumor causing DNA code. Pre natal genetic screening for genetic disorders and disabilities in a fetus can also be performed via blood testing, reducing the need for other, invasive forms of medical testing. The newly developed gene editing tool, CRISPR, also offers the possibility of eliminating or changing defective genomic sections easily. While designer babies may still be science fiction, these recent advances in genetic technology have taken us much closer to the possibility and ethical implications of creating bespoke human beings. From this, it seems that genetic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Collapse Of The Ottoman Empire During World War One Background Following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire during World War One, Britain and France divided up the former Ottoman territories under the Sykes Picot Agreement in 1916, which established French and British colonies, as well as asserted their respective spheres of influence in the region. The borders drawn under this agreement, however, have caused crippling effects still felt today; the Syrian territory was comprised of a Sunni majority, and Alawite (a Shi a sect), Druze and Kurdish minorities. The present day Syrian Arab Republic emerged from this agreement, and formally gained independence in 1945. The current Ba athist Regime came to power in 1963 following a coup d etat led by an Alawite minority dominated military, overthrowing the Sunni majority, Western oriented, capitalist Sunni majority. Prior to the coup, Alawites utilized the military as a means of social mobility in an otherwise Sunni dominated state. Dissatisfaction with the effects of Sykes Picot, and the puppet regimes of European imperialism that were in place, led to the Socialist Ba ath party s nationalist platform. Once in power, the Ba ath party established state sponsored capitalism in an effort to take control of the landed elite dominated agrarian portion of the economy. Interparty turmoil eventually brought Hafez al Assadto power in 1970, who ruled until his death in 2000, when his son, Bashar al Assad(the current president) took over. He spent much of his childhood on ranches and the streets of Oakland, as well as sailing on San Francisco Bay. London spent a few months educating himself on both high school and college material, but when word of discovered gold in the Klondike spread, London, at the age of twenty one, left his home to participate in the hunt for treasure. He published a short story collection called The Son of the Wolf in 1900 and three years later his novel The Call of the Wild awarded him new fame and notoriety. After a successful career as a writer, London died in 1916 at the age of forty (Walker 1). They can be created by the most obscure skepticisms and details developed by an author s foreshadowing, particularly created by Roald Dahl. Dahl is known for many books and short stories, especially due to his foreshadowing throughout all his stories. One of the best examples of this is The Landlady , where Roald Dahluses foreshadowing in order to create a sense of anxiety between the reader and the main character, Billy Weaver. In the story The Landlady , Roald Dahl incorporates realistic events such as Bath, England, hypnosis, and cyanidepoisoning to develop suspense throughout the story. Dahl develops suspense throughout The Landlady by introducing an unfamiliar location for Billy Weaver; Bath, England. Since Dahl set the story in Bath, an undoubtedly shabby city, he increases Billy Weaver s tension, which many feel when they are in a new place. Due to Billy s nervousness of the unaccustomed environment, he accepts multiple peculiarities of the Landlady that he may not have at home. For instance, Billy fails to recognize the odd selectiveness of applicants the Landlady has. There are different conspiracy theories with the 9/11 attack but the most important conspiracy theory is that the collapse of the twin towers were the result of controlled demolition by the government rather than structural failure due to impact and fire. This conspiracy theory revolves around authorities knowing about the attackers and also guiding them to complete their terror attack. From the Renaissance to the World Wars, the existence of the human race has never been a question. Even through times of despair and prosperity, the human race has persisted and even advanced itself. Improvements in technology, medicine, education, and communication have increased the life capacity, expectancy, and satisfaction of people every day. However, even with these well intentioned efforts to improve the humanrace, ultimately our humanity has been adversely affected. Instead, we are now driven by a selfish desire to advance our personal agendas and achieve celebrity status. These misguided behaviors have become the new norm . Fred Astaire sums this surrender of compassion into one amazing quote: The hardest job kids face today is learning good manners without seeing any. Even though Astaire s statement contradicts the beliefs of many people across the nation, it shows insight into the true problem. Positive social interactions are no longer a normalized aspect of human life. Critically discuss the rationale for the development of pupil voice throughout all aspects of school life and consider how teachers and senior managers can facilitate pupils in forming and voicing opinions while also ensuring the equality of opportunity for all. The term pupil voice refers to ways of listening to the views of pupils and/or involving them in decision making. (Department for Education, 2014, p.1) The term and practice of Pupil Voice has featured within the UK since the early 1990 s, when Professor Jean Rudduck pioneered the concept with numerous ground breaking research projects throughout the UK. These series of research projects investigated and presented how pupil voice strategies could be employed within the classroom and the wider school context to enhance teaching, learning and the general experience of school for pupils. Since this early research around this concept, the term and practice has considerably grown into a very current topic within education today and is a concept which every enterprising school should be aspiring to adapt within their day to day running of their school. Annie Dillard s An Exploration Into The Way Human Beings At some point in each of our lives we will take a step back and look at the way we are living our lives and wonder if we are living them correctly. This is exactly what annie dilliard does in this essay. Annie Dillard s essay is just an exploration into the way human beings might live. When she sees a weasel, she looks into the life of that weasel. Studying how it lives its life. Then she compares it to humans. Human beings are creatures of caution and fear. We never fully live our lives because we are too caught up with avoiding risks. We think, debate, and calculate each and every move while weasels just simply act. A weasel is a creature of action and instinct. A weasel lives its life the way it was created to, not questioning his motives, simply striking when the time is right. I agree with Dillard s idea that we might learn something of mindlessness, something of the purity of living in the physical senses and the dignity of living without bias or motive (Dillard 210). The thing that keeps human beings from living the purest life possible, like the weasel is our minds. To live freely we need to live our lives with less hesitation and fear. Dillard says we should forget our ability of thought and choice all together. • 31. Traditional Ground Based Teams And Virtual Teams There are several differences and alike between traditional ground based teams and virtual teams when individuals begin to work together as a team. In a common setting such as a classroom or a specific department in a company, teams are assigned and begin to work together by discussing the details of a project and assign tasks to each member. In this case, students or colleagues begin to work much quicker than in a virtual setting because the exchange of communicationis much faster. In contrast, virtual teams have to first determine what method of communication would be appropriate for all members of the team. Next, they have to wait for all members to respond and then they can execute the best method of communication for the virtual team. According to Berry (2011), Virtual team members can be located across the office, but almost as easily across the country or across the world, and may rarely or perhaps never meet face to face. As team members become more reliant on computer mediated communication technologies, the more virtual they become. However, today most traditional teams use technological devices to continue work outside the classroom or office. Therefore, traditional teams model a virtual team, and if members take advantage of the resources, it can strengthen the team. There are implications that can potentially cause negative outcomes to both, traditional or virtual teams. Virtual teams face a quandary when members share less information, are not clear about ... The CT image results from passing X rays through the abdominal organs at different angles (Pagana Pagana, 2010). As different organs have different tissue densities, each density is given a numeric value in which these areas turn a shade of gray (Pagana Pagana, 2010). It with this shading that CT scans can be visualized and read. The use of contrast can help enhance the images, but for this particular study no contrast was used. This can be a challenge at times when the desire to share a place where the public can engage with nature conflicts with the need to protect it. One of the most fragile, but also most enticing places, is the intertidal. This is where the ocean meets land, and is home to a diverse amount of marine life. Anemone cave is an example of one of these places. It is a sea cave that lies within Schooner Point, and it used to be a very popular attraction in the park. Finally, by eventually excluding women, the civil rights movement spurred women to organize their own movement. • 39. Spiral of Silence Theory Spiral of Silence Theory Elizabeth Noelle Neumann s spiral of silence is a theory that was developed in 1974 and as the founder and the director of the Public Opinion Research Center in Allensbach in Germany; she has found evidence of how the spread of public opinion is formed. The term spiral of silence refers to the increasing pressure people feel to conceal their views they think they are the minority. People will be unwilling to publicly express their opinion if they are in the minority and they will also be more vocal if they believe they are a part of the majority. Thus, the more marginalized you become, the less you speak and so you spiral into a fully marginalized position. Neumann s claim are based on previous collaborative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is used to reveal a series of factors that measures the likelihood that people will voice their opinions. There are six factors and the first one is the most important: 1. Those who favor the majority position are willing to express their voice more comfortably. Feeling in harmony with the spirit of the age loosens the tongue. [Griffin, Em. Spiral of Silence. A First Look at Communciation Theory. 7th ed. N.p.: McGraw Hill, n.d. N. pag. Print. 2. If perception of the present opinon does not match the climate of the conversation, the willingness to speak will depend on how well the conversation continues on. 3. People are more willing to speak if their views match their counterparts than to those who disagree. 4. Low self esteem will cause a person to mute their opinion more often than others. 5. Males, young adults, and people of the middle and upper classes tend to speak out more easily. 6. Existing law encourages people to express their opinion when they feel outnumbered. The Supreme Court s Roe v Wade is a good example. Now that we know the building blocks of the spiral of silence, we can get to root of Noelle Neumann s model of her theory leading to her main point and the last factor, fear of isolation. The fear of isolation is the centrifugal force that accelerates the spiral of silence. Essentially, people fear becoming social isolates and thus take measures to avoid such a consequence. • 40. Analyzing Howard Becker s Labeling Theory Labeling Theory The labeling theory is another important theory in the groups of sociological theories. It essentially states that no acts is intrinsically deviant, but rather are established by those in power through the formulation of laws and the interpretation of those laws by police and criminal justice system (Schmalleger, 2014). In other words until someone or a group in society says that XYZ is an illegal act then it is considered non deviant (Schmalleger, 2014). The person associated more often than not with the labeling theory is Howard Becker. Howard Becker in the 1950s used symbolic interactionist approach to study deviance and focused on the way in which negative labels get applied to individuals and on the consequences that this labeling process creates (Becker, n.d.). In his 1950 s book Outsiders, Howard Becker focused his attentions on what he called moral entrepreneurs or those who engage in the process of getting particular behaviors and acts as being deviant and therefore illegal. As an example think about marijuana laws as opposed to laws against alcohol. Smoking marijuana was deemed illegal while alcohol is approved by society (Becker, n.d.). Low self esteem is a common reason why someone would want to bully a person. Low self esteem is the lack of pride a person feels in themselves. Often times a bully feels like they are less than others and the only way for them to feel better about themselves is to try to bring others down. A lot of bullies aren t trying to hurt someone physically, they use words and certain remarks to torture a person, making that person feel just as less as them just to uplift their own self esteem. For example, the colossal increase in size of the human brain over the past four million years has left us with the most complex structure in the universe, consuming the largest amount of energy proportionate to its size (Ponting 2000, 24). The brain consumes twenty percent of the energy necessary for the body but only accounts for two percent of its body mass (Christian 2003, 455). This statistic clarifies doubt that the brain is anything other than an energy hoarding structure, just as others of similar complexity. Human societies have also evolved from simple structures of early hunting and gathering communities to the more complex cosmopolitan cities of today. The hunting and gathering communities were fairly simple societies demanding the minimum of resources. Complexity grew with farming communities and more energy was necessary to sustain the larger populations and the demands of a stable, non nomadic life. Early civilizations saw an increase in complexity with the introduction of specialization and trade. Which, again, required more energy to sustain even larger communities. Vonnegut uses color imagery, repetitive images, and images of pain and suffering to develop the novel and create situations that the reader can accept and comprehend. Billy Pilgrim s life is far from normal. Throughout most of his adult life he has been moving backwards and forwards through time, from one event to another, in a non sequential order. At least, this schizophrenic life is hard to understand. Because Vonnegut wants the reader to relate to Billy ... The careful and vivid depiction of colors enables the reader to relate to the experience. Vonnegut also uses many images in a repetitive fashion. He talks about the blue and ivoryfeet several times, as well as the pattern of orange and black that appears both on the train taking prisoners to the war camp and on the wedding tent for Billy s daughter (69, 72). Furthermore, sleepers (Vonnegut and his wife, people in the prison camps) are repeatedly described as being quot;nestled like spoons quot; (70). Another common image is that of moonlight in chapter four. In several places during this chapter, the image of moonlight suggests a mood of serenity and stillness. Additionally, the image of the soldiers hobbling up and down is repeated several times. This image stretches from the relentless bobbing up and down, up and down of the soldiers to the Tralfamadorian novel where the characters quot;certainly had their ups and downs, ups and downs quot; (87). Another important technique is Vonnegut s use of dark, grizzly images of pain and suffering. Many of the long, descriptive passages of the novel are grotesque stories from the war or terrible memories from Billy Pilgrim s consciousness. One of these images involves a latrine ... Then, explain the objection to his argument that you think is strongest one raised in the article or another and explain whether you think the objection shows Singer s argument isn t cogent, or whether you think his argument is still cogent. Give the strongest argument you can for your position. In Peter Singer s Argument Famine, Affluence, and Morality, Singer positions himself as an advocate for the refugees who are suffering in other countries across seas. He does not believe in big government prioritizing images of power over helping those who are in grave danger of starving themselves. Singer believes that hunger is preventable and... The examples include two men that may inherit great personal gain if his nephew were to die. In one case, the man drowns the child in the tub. In the other case, the man is planning to kill the boy, but when he goes into the bathroom he sees that the boy is drowning and the man lets him die. Rachel includes this example in her argument to show that the two men are the same despite the boys cause of death and she claims that it is the same in a hospital setting with active and passive euthanasia so there is no reason to have active euthanasia to be a serious crime whereas passive euthanasia is common medical ... • 54. My Application For South Africa My Application for South Africa 2016 The first time I was introduced to South Africa was last year during choir. For choir we sang a South African ritual. This enticed me to look into the culture of South Africa to find out more things about my new found interest. During this investigation I found out that South Africais prominent for their unique wild life, it is the only country which has hosted the world cup for cricket, rugby, and soccer, the vast history due to the colonialization of Africaby Europe, and the luxurious bodies of water found in South Africa. Also during my research, I found out that Woodberry offers an exchange program in South Africa. I became extremely interested in this program. I would love to do this program so... These places entice me due to the fact that history is one of my favorite subjects. Another major part of South Africa is the sports seen there. South Africa s main sports are rugby, cricket, and soccer. I am a huge sports fanatic, however I am not as interested in South African sports as I would like to be. South Africa has such a dedication to its sports that it is the only country which has hosted the world cup in rugby, soccer, and cricket. South Africa hosted the rugby world cup in 1995, the cricket world cup in 2003, and the soccer world cup in 2010. I would love to see the locations of where these important games were played, which brings me to my next point, South Africa s unique sights. South Africa is also known for its breathtaking sights which include the Kruger National Park, Table Mountain, Blyde River Canyon, and the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve just to name a few. At these sights you can either see the unique animals of South Africa in their natural habitat, or look over all of South Africa from the mountain and the canyon. The culture of South Africa is one of the major reasons why I would love to be able to participate in this unique opportunity. I also think I would be the right choice for this program due to the person that I am. If I am chosen St Johns would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Summary Of Fahrenheit 451 It was a red stained brick house. An old house with steps in the front, a door on the side, and a rather large white window in the front of the house. Some days, you can hear pieces of Bach, Chopin, Mozart, and Beethoven playing softly. Inside the house, it was quite empty. Pure white walls, dark stained wood flooring, and black furniture. The staircases were wooden and well worn, complementing the intricacies of the shade around the house. Two men walk into the house. One of the men was Guy Montag, who nearly a year ago was a fugitive. He had the ironic occupation of being a fireman that led to his demise. A mixture of guilt, grief, and disgust led him to become a rebel , and under the forcible guiding of his conscience and Granger, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She rushes towards him, Faber! Are you okay? Montag looks over at the old man, who has helped him greatly in the past. It was his turn to help him. Montag jerks away from Clarisse, walking Faber inside the small sanctuary. He casts a small glance behind him to Clarisse standing like a statue. Come on, little girl. She looks at him with a smirk, running towards him. Montag gives her a surprised look, just a minute ago she was all hesitant. I m not a little girl Montag, I m 18, she says seriously. Montag casts her a small smile, looking towards Faber, and begins to walk faster. Soon, they arrive at the infirmary, only to see Granger. Granger gives the two newcomers a strange look. Who are they? This is Clarisse and Faber, I knew them before the bombing. L l l l Montag lays Faber down on a makeshift hospital bed and starts tending to his wounds. Clarisse sat down on a chair next to the bed, peering over at Montag, Faber, and Granger, occasionally. Eventually, Montag finished patching Faber up. He looked like a half wrapped mummy. White bandages trail up his fragile, old arms and his torso. Faber slowly falls asleep on the bed, a small book falling out of his jacket pocket, the Holy Bible. Same Faber as always, muttered Montag, glancing towards Clarisse, who sat there staring into space. You re still here? Montag looks at her. Yeah. She sits there, fiddling with the corners of her white dress. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Indexes Are Used From E Commerce Websites Answer 1 Indexes are used by queries to find data quickly. Indexes are used to boost performance in a database. Finding an individual record or set of records most efficiently done by Index. Index key is the reference point where an index is an ordered arrangement of keys and pointers. Each key is appointed to the location of the data recognized by the key. For example: when we order any product from E commerce websites like amazon, we will be assigned an order confirmation ID which gives the authority to track that particular information on the product till it reaches. This is known as the No Repeat Rule. Entities with compound primary keys cannot be split into multiple entities with simpler primary keys. This is called the Smallest Key Rule. As we know that a foreign key is an attribute that completes a relationship by identifying the parent entity. Let me explain how to identify the foreign keys that every dependent and subtype entity in the model must have a foreign key for each relationship in which it participates. Foreign keys are formed in dependent and subtype entities by migrating the entire primary key from the parent entity. If the primary key is composite, it may not be split. Foreign key attributes are not considered to be owned by the entities to which they migrate, because they are reflections of attributes in the parent entities. Thus, each attribute in an entity is either owned by that entity or belongs to a foreign key in that entity. If the primary key of a child entity contains all the attributes in a foreign key, the child entity is said to be identifier dependent on the parent entity, and the relationship is called an identifying relationship. If any attributes in a foreign key do not belong to the child s primary key, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
