In this lesson, we are continue learning about the new Constitution. In the summer of 1787, the 13
states discuss the problem under the Articles of Confederation. They decide it will be easy to write a
new document then fix it. James Madison was in charge of the assembling the various parts of the new
constitution. He didn t write it, he just edited it. He took 55 delegate ideas, and turned it into a
cohesive document. Madison is known as the father of the Constitution . The convention lasted 3
months, and the nation were furious about the new constitution. Madison had to make a taught choices

Black Robe Historical Analysis
Black Robe:
A Historical Analysis
Black Robe presents the story of a French Jesuit missionary struggling to stay true to his religion
while traveling from Champlain s fur trading outpost to a Huron Native American mission in Nouvelle
France during the 17th century. Father Paul La Forgue sets out on the 1,500 mile journey with
members of the Algonquian tribe and a young Frenchman named Daniel Davost, determined to
convert the savages to Christianity. Throughout the film, Father La Forgue faces the Algonquians
beliefs that he is a demon, calling him Black Robe , and even abandoning him for a short period.
Later, when his Algonquian guides and Daniel recover him, they are captured and tortured by an
Iroquois tribe. Eventually, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fictional sorcerer subjects Father La Forgue to the same historical treatment that the actual
Mestagoit applied to Father Le Jeune in 1634. Mestagoit tries to scare the demon Black Robe with
loud noises, tells the Algonquians that they should kill La Forgue, and chastises the Algonquians for
accepting the French s gifts of flints, pots, and axes.
A large inaccuracy in the film was the depiction of the Algonqians language. In Black Robe, the act of
learning the native language of the Algonquians is portrayed as a commonality to many of the French.
In reality, the native language was extensive and had extremely complicated vocabularies, with many
variations, especially among the various tribes.
Where the Algonquian and Montagnais depiction was based mostly upon historical accuracies, the
Iroquois depiction in the film Black Robe was based largely upon gross inaccuracies. While the
Iroquois were known historically for their brutality, the running of the gauntlet that the Frenchmen and
Algonquian Chief Chomina had to complete was one of the only true Iroquois practices depicted in
the film. The Iroquois in the film then deviate from history further to demonstrate puzzling behavior in
the scenes within their encampment.
Traditionally, the Iroquois take young men captives and give them to someone in the tribe that has lost
a loved one in order to replace the hole that had been left

the paradigm used in this experiment. Design and Procedures A standard recognition memory test was
implemented with SIOR paradigm in this experiment. Each participant completed 52 trials. 26
participants provided 1342 trails in this experiment. Only half of 1342 trails were evaluated in the
analysis. This study focused on the proportion of responses of each participant when he/she chose a
different location as their partner s previous response. The analysis compared participant s response to
the same location to their partner with the chance of 50 percent. If a significant different was shown in
the hypothesis that participant s preferences were not by chance of 50 percent, the study might
conclude that participant preferred a different location compared with their partner s previous action.
The effect of SIOR was quantified as the number of responses of a participant with the choice of a
different location compared with their partner. 26 participants were randomly assigned in pairs to form
13 groups. Each group was tested

Blessed Clement Of Dunblane Research Paper
During the thirteenth century, Scotland was in full restoration. The entire region was in disorder; there
were many conflicts between the monarchy and the aristocracy. The New Scotland, specifically
Dunblane, was restored and revived by a nobleman who went by name Blessed Clement of Dunblane.
Although there was more than one individual that aided in the reconstruction of the province, Clement
of Dunblane was the man who was recognized with the majority of the changes that were made during
the 1200 s in Scotland. The transformation of the Scottish Church mainly took place in the eleventh
and twelfth centuries, when the new churches were constructed and new bishops were appointed to
care around the clock for the well being of the buildings. Before the adjustments, the crown of
Scotland and the crown of England were seldom at peace, resulting in the tremendous growth and
development of the Catholic Church. Going back further into the history of medieval Scotland specific
dates and significant events were recorded in Irish chronicles, which happened to vanish when the

Number Three In Dante s Inferno Essay
Number three has a significant role throughout the whole comedy Inferno. The poem is written in a
special form which contains exactly three lines. This can be related to Dante s belief in a special
power of the number three in Christian tradition.
Also, number three has a significant meaning in the content of the comedy. In the beginning Dante
meets three animals a leopard, a lion and she wolf, those beasts represent three types of sins.
When Dante and Virgil get closer to Lucifer, they can see that he has three heads, also in each mouth
he has three greatest sinners in history Judas, Brutus and Cassius.
In the first Canto, Dante tells his story that after he reached the middle of his life journey, he once got
lost in the forest and woke to find myself [Dante] in a dark wood (Inferno, Canto I, 2). Dante got
scared of being alone in the dark until he saw a light. After he rested tired body there for awhile , he
started to climb and then he saw three beasts (Canto I, 28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

when he doesn t have any particular life goals. He has doubts believing in himself. He thinks that he

A Good Man Is Hard To Find Literary Analysis
A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Conner shows the battle of society vs. class. The
grandmother in A Good Man is hard to find gives great importance to being a lady, and her ideas about
what that means reflect an old fashioned, Southern mindset. She uses the n word and longs for the
good old days when kids were polite, people were trustworthy. All of this leads her to associate being
good with coming from a respectable family and behaving like a member of her social class; those
who don t are outsiders. All of this is put to the test when she meets The Misfit. Society vs. Class
shows that everyone is truly equal and at the end of the day social class doesn t make a difference. O
Conner shows this through her use of Tone and Characterization throughout the story. The
grandmother is representative of godliness and Christianity which O Connor apparently believed to be
more prevalent in the 1950 s down south. the grandmother had on a navy blue straw sailor hat with a
bunch of white violets on the brim and a navy blue dress with a small white dot in the print. Her collar
and cuffs were white organdy trimmed with lace, and at her neckline she had pinned a purple spray of
cloth violets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

want it coming along. You can tell the worry she has about anyone not from her status. When they

her stubbornness when she causes the accident that brings them to the misfit and doesn t feel the need
to admit her wrongs to Bailey and the

Social Location
Social location can be defined in numerous ways due to the aspects that influence it. Predominantly, it
is a person s place in the world based off of race, religion, sexuality, gender, etc. All the factors that
influence a person s social location not only tell their standing or place in the world, but how they
were raised, who they are looking forward to becoming, and how they will fare in the future. A person
s beliefs weigh heavily into social location more than other factors later in life. Early on, it tends to be
the unchangeable features such as gender and race that weigh down. The main factors that have
contributed to my social location in the past few years have been moving, sexuality, education, and the

opportunity as possible and to help them to thrive as a person. In the past year I ve met two people

Biography Of Garson Kanin And David Crane And Hands On A...
This past week, I had the opportunity to experience a magnificent play called Born Yesterday by
Garson Kanin. This performance was the third of three plays I saw at the Arizona Repertory Theatre.
The other two plays were Epic Proportions by Larry Coen and David Crane and Hands on a Hardbody
by Doug Wright. These were the first plays I have been to, not only while attending the University of
Arizona, but in my generation as a teenager. All together, these performances were amazing and have
brought a newly improved insight to my perception of theatre. The hard work and dedication by the
actors, directors, producers, cast members, and sound developers were absolutely incredible and I
have tremendous respect for their efforts during the overall sequence of producing the plays. The most
recent performance I saw, Born Yesterday, can be described and reflected on through various topics
such as lighting, sound, directing and producing.
I decided to arrive a half hour early to witness all the elements of the stage, audience, and theater in
order to truly express my thoughts on the external features of the play. The Marroney theatre has 332
seats which were designed like movie theatre chairs. They were manufactured to be a bold red with
black carpet surrounding the floor to cover the entire theatre space. For the first thirty minutes before
Born Yesterday started, the theatre played classical music to soothe the ears of the audience and create

Slam, Dunk, Hook, By Yusef Komunyakaa
In Slam, Dunk, Hook, by Yusef Komunyakaa, the speaker explains how he and his teammates play
basketball and it does to them. Through his use of juxtaposition, enjambment, and repetition,
Komunyakaa reveals the thematic ideas of cooperation and struggle against the many adversities of
life. Within the poem, Komunyakaa repeatedly juxtaposes good and evil with phrases such as bad
angels , swivels of faith and bone , and Beautiful dangerous . In the literal context of the poem, these
juxtapositions are used to highlight the greatness of the speaker and his team. It also reveals how
fierce the game of such polar opposites of good and evil is. On a deeper level, these juxtapositions
work to make the poem a metaphor for an actual basketball game. It introduces the facets of

The repetition of we in this work serves many purposes. The first is that it emphasizes the importance
of unity. He doesn t describe the movement of one player in the game because there is no single
player; there is a unit, a team. All members of the basketball team work together as parts of a single
whole. This reveals the theme that cooperation breeds success. The team is successful and Beautiful
dangerous because they are a team. They are one. The repetition of we also serves to emphasize the
importance of he when Komunyakaa shifts the poem to focus on one specific team member, Sonny
Boy. When his mother died, Sonny Boy played nonstop, all day . This expounds upon the theme of the
poem (passion is savior). When Komunyakaa returns to the plural we , he does it in the same sentence,
saying that Sonny Boy played nonstop, all day, so hard our backboard splintered . This particular shift
shows that though Sonny Boy is an individual separated from his team via his emotional pain, he is
still a part of the team and is claimed in the Our Komunyakaa uses to describe the

Analysis Of Daniel Handler s A Series Of Unfortunate Events
Most authors tend to write their books in a cheerful way. Daniel Handler, on the other hand, writes in a
gloomy style, showing the not so nice things that can happen to people. For example, the three
Baudelaire orphans in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Siblings who just lose their parents in a deadly
house fire and have to deal with the trouble known as Count Olaf, a villain after their enormous
inheritance. Handler wrote the 13 books in the series under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket. A Series
of Unfortunate Events is Handler s best known work. In the last book of the series, the three
Baudelaires are in the middle of the ocean on a boat after leaving a burning hotel where they worked
undercover. Unfortunately, the children are accompanied by Count Olaf, the man after their money.
And the Baudelaire fortune is finally mine! Olaf cackled Finally, I am a very wealthy man, which
means everybody must do what I say! Was Olaf s reaction to their predicament even though his
statement is completely false. Snicket made Count Olaf the antagonist in the story, a manipulative
villain where in his mind money equals power. He lives in his own fairytale where he is superior. To
make the Baudelaires situation worse, a storm is added to the mix showing that the kids can never get
a break, pushing their intelligence and strength. The storm led the Baudelaires and Olaf to an island of
strange customs. But the Baudelaires could not help but feel that they were abandoning their previous

One aspect that can be seen in both the New World artifacts and the Old World artifacts are human and
animal figures. Humans, animals, and combinations between the two can be seen in both worlds but
there are obvious differences in the details. Artifacts in the Old World tend to give a more realistic
representation of humans and animals whereas the New World tends to give a more cartoon or stylized
representation of the figures. The Old World museum has several figures that show a realistic picture
of the humans from that time. One example of this, is in the Chinese figurines. These opal colored
figures are extremely detailed, showing every element typically seen on a face. Additionally, items

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Acute respiratory distress syndrome otherwise known as ARDS, is very serious inflammatory lung
injury that can cause very dangerous low oxygen levels throughout the blood. This condition is known
as hypoxemia. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) can lead to numerous and very serious
problems.[2] Acute respiratory distress syndrome is a life threatening injury and will require
immediate attention to prevent further damage. There are many causes of ARDS but not all have been
identified yet. The most common cause of acute respiratory distress syndrome is sepsis, Sepsis is
where an infection and entered the blood stream and has had a rapid spread. For the most part sepsis
occurs in the hospital but can be seen in the prehospital setting very frequently.[4,5] Alcohol and drug
abuse seem to have and increased risk of ARDS in septic patients. Acute respiratory distress syndrome
can also be caused when aspiration of the stomach contents into the lungs happens in hospitalized
patients who have had an endotracheal tube placed into their lungs to help manage their airway.[1]
This is also known as intubation. When a patient suffers massive blood loss and a blood transfusion is
needed, acute pancreatitis can happen which can cause an increase in the risk of a patient developing

group of propositions (Barnett, 2014). Skepticism with respect to all propositions is known as global
skepticism, and it reveals that knowledge is nonexistent (2014). The regress problem is a difficulty in
epistemology, where an idea has to be justified, because the justification itself has to have further
reasoning (2014). The infinite regress argument concludes that individuals lack justification and
knowledge (since knowledge requires justification) through its premises, but non doxastic evidence
ends the regress argument without circularity or arbitrariness. The infinite regress argument dates back
to Sectus Empiricus, 3rd century ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, B cannot be a reason for B itself, and second, a reason for B cannot alternate between B and that
reason. In other words, circular reasoning is expelled from being proper justification, and foundational
reasons are not sufficient due to the absence of a further reason. If both conditions are true, then the
chain of reasons for any belief is potentially infinite or unlimited. The problem with infinitism is that
an infinite number of beliefs, whether potential or not, do not exist. Humans have finite minds and
finite lives, and eventually after being questioned numerous times there will be no more reasons that
could be possibly formed to justify a belief. For example, when a child continues to ask his or her
parent Why? , after a series of reasons the parent will not be able to devise an answer to the question.
Therefore, infinitism is not a strong response to skepticism. Coherentism is the view that individuals
have justified beliefs, which result from a finite system of beliefs that promote each other non
circularly without the requirement for justification outside of the system (2014). For coherentism,
justification is a procedure in which all of the beliefs are seen wholly as a system rather than
individual parts. For example, V , V , and V are beliefs. The beliefs V , V , and V work together to
achieve epistemic justification without the need for any further

Fantasy And Fantasy In Mulholland Drive
As we contrast the first part of the film with the second, it becomes evident that the first appears to be
all the more genuine, more in keeping with our expectations concerning reality. But this feeling of
reality results from the film s fantastic dimension rather than its realism. Where we usually contrast
fantasy with reality, Mulholland Drive underlines the connection between the two, portraying fantasy s
role in giving reality with the structure that it has. The film supports Lacan s claim that everything we
are allowed to approach by way of reality remains rooted in fantasy (Stavrakakis 62). Hence fantasy
should not be seen as opposed to reality because it is fantasy that sustains what we experience as
reality. This idea that fantasy supports our sense of reality is evident in Lost Highway and earlier
Lynch films, and he uses fantasy as a major category or theme in almost all of his films.
The movie creates a sense of mystery and a sense of basic uncertainty that we normally connect with
the element of desire. It uses darkness, threatening characters, ominous music and unusual editing
sequences, all of which represents desire in a manner very typical of Hollywood narrative style. Desire
is always associated with not knowing, posing questions that do not have answers, lack of narrative
elements and confusing irrational series of random events. As Lacan speaks about desire in Seminar
X, as long as I desire, I know nothing of what I desire (98). To depict this

Mulan And Ban Zhao s Lessons For Women
Filial piety in Confucianism is represented in both the movie Mulan and Ban Zhao s Lessons for
Women. We can see that in Confucianism filial piety is a virtue of respect for ones parents, elders, and
ancestors. Women specifically though in Chinese culture after three days of birth of a baby girl are
supposed to place the baby underneath the bed to indicate that she is lowly, weak and seek to
understand that to humble herself is her primary duty. Also, they are supposed to give her a piece of
broken pottery to practice labor and for it to be her primary duty to be industrious. Lastly, they are
supposed to announce the baby girl at birth so to show her, her primary duty is the continuation of the
observance of worship in the home.( Chinese Culture) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the movie you can see that Mulan is getting ready to see the match maker, to get
her ready to find a husband. She happens to make mistakes and dishonors her family. Later that night
she feels the need to speak out and tell her father he should not need to fight for the Emperor because
he has already done so in the past, and is now older and injured. Her father gets upset with her and
tells her she needs to learn her place. She is not allowed to speak out when not asked to speak, but he
was also upset that she has dishonored the family. You see Mulan speak out once again when one of
the Emperors council members comes to the town and notifies the families that one man from each
family is to serve in the Emperors army to fight against the Hans that have invaded China. By Mulan
speaking her mind she disgraces her and her family. Also, when she joins the Emperors army, even

Adolf Hitler s Primary Sources
Adolf Hitler was arguably one of the world s most powerful dictators of all time. Hitler used the Jews
as a scapegoat throughout his rise in power. Using antisemitism to preach hatred and blame on the
Jews for all of Germany s problems, including the loss of World War I. Hitler had gained the support
of other countries to include Italy and Japan and was going to stop at nothing to ensure that the
German people would reign supreme. Hitler had his Army ready for war and was confident that a
victory for Germany was certain, he just needed an opportunity to strike. In this paper we will discuss
the history of WWII, to include Hitler s rise to power, world conquest and the transition of Cost
Artillery to today s Air Defense. From the very beginning of Adolf Hitler s career, he had two goals.
His primary goal was the forcible acquisition of living space, also known as Lebensraum, for the
German people. Secondly, he plotted the extermination of the Jews. In 1935, Adolf Hitler openly
violated the Treaty of Versailles by rapidly rebuilding the German Army. Other countries began to get
nervous at the exponentially increasing German Army. Hitler assured fellow diplomats that the rapid
growth was strictly a defensive measure. He claimed Germany had every right to build its forces to be

Why Is Ma Rainey Important
Gertrude Ma Rainey is a pivotal figure in the history of American music. She was the first person to
ever perform blues and the first internationally known African American female blues singer. Her
music acted as inspiration for many distinguished figures during the Harlem Renaissance, and
continues to influence contemporary music and art.
A single source of blues music cannot be traced, but Ma Rainey is rightfully credited with introducing
it to the world. Hence the reason she was dubbed as The Mother of the Blues . During an interview in
the 1930s, Ma told musicologist John Work, that she heard what would be called blues, for the first
time around 1902. She was in a small town in Missouri working a show at the time, and one morning
a local girl came into the tent singing about a man whom had left her. This new style of soulful music
drew in Ma Rainey so much she later had the girl teach her the song. Rainey performed the song as an
encore in a show soon after, earning a special place in the show, and marking the start of her career
(Jas Obrecht Archive).
Gertrude Pridgett was born in 1986 to tent performers Thomas Pridgett Sr. and Ella Allen Pridgett.
Both were said to had traveled around the south performing minstrel shows, which was the most
popular form of live comedy entertainment from 1840 to the early nineteenth century
(Biography.com). Because of her parents involvement, Gertrude had always been surrounded by show

The Five Bases Of Power And Personal Power
Introduction Power in the social dimension is simply the capacity to bring about certain intended
consequences in the behaviour of others (Gardner, 1993). So, who have a power and control it? French
and Raven (1959) purposed five bases of the power and divided to position power and personal power.
Leadership is a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common

The Marijuana Legalization Movement
The marijuana legalization movement is one of the most controversial social movements of the
modern day. Efforts to reform marijuana policy have been organized since the mid 1900s. There are
two major organizations leading the battle for marijuana decriminalization. The National Organization
for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) and the Marijuana Project Policy (MPP) are both
looking to reschedule and eventually legalize marijuana for the use of responsible adults. These two
organizations provide various strategies that, along with additional tactics from other sources, have
strongly influenced the position of the marijuana legalization social movement. The mobilization of

Many celebrities publically advocate for the legalization of marijuana. Artists like Snoop Dogg, Justin
Timberlake, John legend, and Madonna are just a few of the many in the music industry who advocate
for the legalization of marijuana (Schiff 2014). These artists help the movement by maintaining a
culture upon which the use of marijuana is cool . This promotion of marijuana by such celebrated
people creates a sense of collective identity. Historically, one of the most obvious means through
which group identity has been manifested and shared is through language generally, and music
specifically (Danaher Roscigno:26). Athletes like Michael Phelps, Allen Iverson, and Randy Moss
advocate for the use of marijuana. Politicians like former president Bill Clinton, current president
Barack Obama, and senator John McCain have all been very vocal about reforming the current
marijuana policy. All these public influences help influence cultural outcomes that promote positive
images surrounding marijuana. Media coverage of SMOs is key to both substantiating their claims to
represent groups and developing important cultural outcomes (Goodwin Jasper:312). Ultimately,
public support of marijuana decriminalization from such important characters creates communal
support and strengthens NGO campaign support. To assert the media s influence requires specifying
the structural and instrumental ways in which it can shape collective action across a dispersed
population. On the structure end, the introduction of new media may provide opportunities not directly
associate with collective action, but which alter the leverage and/or autonomy of subgroups (Danaher

Native Son Marxism Essay
I am going to be using Marxism to interpret the book, Native Son. When talking about Marxism, it
generally deals with gender, class, and race. In the book, Native Son, there are many examples of
Marxism that have to do with underestimating and unfairness. This was evident especially when
dealing with Chicago in the 1930 s and 1940 s when Africans were treated unfairly and were demoted.
In Native Son, Bigger, the main character, and his family are being over priced for a rundown, one
bedroom flat unsuitable to live in because of their race. Mr. Dalton, Bigger s boss, owns the company
that sold the Thomas s their flat. The Thomas family along with a lot of other Africans in Chicago at
the time, were forced to live in south side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book, Native Son, Bigger believes that all whites are the same: just as rude, just as mean, just as
irresponsible, and just as violent. Bigger did not just come up with these accusations out of nowhere.
White people in his childhood treated him differently and thought of him as a pest. To Bigger, white
people would always think they were above him. After years of being told you are bad at something,
sometime you start to believe it yourself, and after a while it would be hard not to go crazy being
treated like you were an animal. Africans around this time did not really think of themselves better
than what the whites were saying about them. To him, white woman are just snobby princesses who
spend all their money on clothes and things that are not needed. In his mind, the white men are rude,
overpowering, cocky, and violent. He has these stereotypes because that is how all whites have acted
near him.
When it comes to class, the Thomas family is among the lowest. They live in a one bedroom flat with
two beds they all four share. The Thomas family barely has a few dollars to their name, and then there
is the Dalton family. They have all the money then need. They proceed to give as much as they can to
charities because it makes them feel more humane taking the money of poor, low class Africans. They

Culture, Ethnicity And Gender Issues Within Psychology
The topic of culture, ethnicity and gender issues within psychology requires more attention;
particularly, within the therapeutic setting. It was refreshing to see that finally, within this chapter
these topics among other were finally being addressed in further depth than before. What was
particularly striking in this week s readings was the role of privilege and awareness.
In the article by Hernandez Wolfe and McDowell (2012), the idea to shift the focus on oppression to a
focus on privilege in counseling and psychology is imperative. After reading the article I find this
useful seeing that once this shift can be made, awareness of privilege and lack of privilege becomes
essential to help elicit action for change. Although it was mentioned that sometimes action is not
always achieved, the awareness piece is becoming increasingly important, especially in counseling
psychology. As mentioned in the article, moving from oppression, focused to privilege focused
reminded me a little of solution focused therapy. Focusing on the positives and strengths to elicit
change. Although privilege is not necessarily a strength, it is an important concept to focus on.
Understanding that, many people who do not have to experience a lack of privilege difficulties in the
therapy setting, in particular, it is important to address these issues. In addressing such privilege
issues, we as therapists can develop a more genuine, understanding, and collaborative relationship
with our clients. This

How Did Marilyn Monroe Commit Suicide
One mystery that will never be truly solved is the death of one of the world s most influential stars.
Marilyn Monroe. On August the 5th 1962, at the tender age of 36 the Hollywood actress was found
dead in her Los Angeles home. The scene seemed to be one of a suicide; however evidence suggests
that she was confronted with a far more sinister end. Many believe that Marilyn in fact did end her
own life but others including myself believe that her death was due to the hand of President Kennedy.
I believe that homicide is what occurred on the evening of her death.
Marilyn Monroe did not commit suicide, she was murdered Police Officer Jack Clemmons (present at

The President of the United States fell under this category perfectly. It became apparent that a
transitory relationship between Marilyn and JFK occurred during the months prior to her death. I
surmise that the fleeting affair was the cause of her hasty exit from the world. In the final years of her
life Marilyn had become mentally unstable. Alchol and drugs became necessary props in the
screenplay she concidered to be her life. Drowning in depression, she became reliant on prescription
drugs and alchol to function somewhat normally. This issue became a detriment to both Marilyn s
personal life and her career. 20th Century Fox agreed to dismiss her from further projects. In
desperation, she turned to the president for support. Marilyn asked Kennedy for a more committed
relationship. Yet this was unrealistic as Kennedy had a family. Rejection was a familiar feeling to
Monroe. Yet the denial of her request somewhat shocked her; as a result she threatened to go public
with the affair. Marilyn Monroe once said Dogs never bite me. Just humans. I believe that this quote in
particular describes the end of her relationship with Kennedy perfectly. She was once again let down

Who is Robyn Blumner? Perhaps she is simply your everyday editorialist for a daily newspaper. Or, as
the former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida (ACLU), could she
possibly have her own agenda? One of Blumner s columns entitled Let s stand up for liberty was
published in a well known editorial writers magazine called The Masthead . In summary, it focuses on
freedom of speech, and how we tend to lose sight of it, or even have it taken from us during national
hardships. She feels that the government tends to deny us of these freedoms when we need them the
most, during war. Blumner sturdily supports her claims throughout the course of her column.

Blumner claims during World War I, few editorial boards stood up for civil liberties. Instead, they
chose to reflect the xenophobic [anti immigrant] views of their readership [par.16]. In support, she
quotes from a professor of journalism, Joseph McKerns, to back her statement. McKerns asserts
foreigners were the ones portrayed as a threat rather than merely exercising free speech [par.18]. He
also alleges the daily press made a convenient separation, seeing the speech of the political activist as
different from what it did [par.17]. By accentuating her interest of immigrant s rights, could it be she is
supporting yet again, her past organization?
Where do her priorities lie? So far we have identified her support of national freedom and immigrant s
rights. Throughout the course of the article she also defends the rights of Japanese Americans, German
Americans, and defends publishers that were prosecuted for violating the Espionage Act in wartime
history. She may have valid claims, but she is still being biased. What about the natives of Iraq that
gained liberties from the capture of Saddam Hussein? War doesn t always have viewed negatively.
Apparently she was respected enough to be published. However, a little background on The Masthead
is nothing more than an opinion writing magazine. Does this make her credible? I think not!
In the beginning I was compelled by her article. It truly made me

Congress Most Influential Policy Blunder
Aside from the decision to assign the project to the DOE in the first place, Congress most influential
policy blunder was picking the Yucca Mountain site and leaving no back ups or alternatives through
the NWPAA. It was done before the DOE had even finished evaluating all of its potential sites as
Congress had tasked it through the original NWPA. This decision by Congress is what ultimately led
to reports of falsified scientific documents as the DOE was essentially forced by the NWPAA to make
due with any issues they found at Yucca or face losing the entire federal nuclear repository project.
Had the DOE been both capable of and allowed to finish its own siting of the repository it would have

In reality what the EPA had done was set a site specific performance standard, based on what
qualifications they knew would be compatible with Yucca instead of setting a general performance
standard based on safety and science (Ewing Hippel, 2009). This superficial performance standard
was in part responsible for the shut down of Yucca Mountain as its authenticity and scientific accuracy
came into question along with the report of falsified documents. The decision in the NWPAA to pick
Yucca Mountain without any real selection process created one of the biggest altercations between
groups and organizations interested in this policy. By picking a site in Nevada, a state with no nuclear
reactors and a strong majority opinion against the construction of a repository, Congress pitted the
entire state against the federal government and other states. Nevada residents are so opposed to the
completion of the facility, polled at 76% in 2007 (Las Vegas Review Journal), that it has become a
requirement of anyone hoping to hold federal office in the state to feel the same sentiment. Because of
this governors, senators, and representatives from Nevada all view the permanent closing of Yucca as
a priority and adamantly oppose motions that would see the facility operational. Congressmen from

Title Every four years the world goes into a clamor for the Olympic Games, and cities aggressively

exorbitant amounts of money in the hopes of bringing the worlds Olympiad s to their municipality.
But, is the prestige of being the host worth it for the host city? It is becoming more apparent that these
endeavors are detrimental to the economy, if you look at the five most recent summer Olympics; Rio
de Janeiro, London, Beijing, Athens, and Sydney. Many of these cities apply with the hopes of a
positive long term impact, many in recent times to be severely disappointed. Rio won it s Olympic bid

My Favorite Christmas Season
Are you serious Clark ? Is one of the famous sayings you ll hear my dad quoting throughout the
Christmas season. Christmas is my absolute favorite season, and I do quite know the reason.
Christmas was always filled with a lot of joyous experiences; my entire family always became so
happy immediately after the Thanksgiving Holiday ended. My dad probably influenced me the most
when it comes to Christmas; because the Christmas season was the only time his dysfunctional family
unified.
My favorite part about Christmas was all of the traditions my family had. The first one was watching
the movie National Lampoon s Christmas Vacation on Thanksgiving night while starting to decorate
the house for Christmas. My family and I never wasted any time on getting into the Christmas Spirit,
but it really has never taken much for us to get into it. Usually, within the next day or two, we would
go out in our front wheel drive sleigh and find that one perfect Christmas tree that was a little full and
had a lotta sap . Every year my dad would cut it down with the same dull saw that he said the previous
year he was going to replace and it was always quite comical watching him cut the tree down;
sometimes I thought it would have been faster if he just dug it out of the ground with his bare hands. If

Brief Summary Of Martin Luther King s Speech
The highlight of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was the highly anticipated convocation featuring Dr.
Cornel West as the keynote speaker. All freshmen were forced to go to this event, and it is safe to say
most were more than reluctant to attend. The first half of the convocation went pretty close to how I
was expecting. President Heckler gave a speech which I, personally, found extremely scripted and
boring causing my mind to wander elsewhere. After Heckler finished, eventually it was time for
Cornel West to speak, which was easily the most entertaining part of the event. West s speech began a

Dawn as the Brand
Dawn the Innovator in Brand Building
Jacquelyn Denton
American Intercontinental University
Abstract
Dawn has created a loyal fan base since its introduction in 1973. Dawn marketers utilized several
marketing techniques such as brand equity and positioning to remain the leader of dish soap sales.
Dawn has built brand equity by using the original Dawn to spring board their new products such as the
ultra concentrated Dawn with power scrubbers. Dawn positions itself in the market by fulfilling the
consumers need for a quality product. Dawn has given consumers a new perspective as dish soap by
being used to clean animals affected by the recent oil spill. The Dawn brand is an example of how
brand building is an essential factor for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dawn is a strong brand which increases Terri s positive attitude toward the Dawn brand. The attitude
is built based on the experience with the product. The website www.netMBA.com states, The
consumer s awareness and associations lead to perceived quality, inferred attributes, and eventually,
brand loyalty . (Brand Equity 2010). Terri s next set of questions concern brand positioning. Dawn has
a dominant place in Terri s mind. Positioning is the attempt of a brand to occupy the space of a
consumers mind. A more detailed definition comes from the AIU textbook entitled Marketing
Management which states, Positioning is the act of designing the company s offering and image to
occupy a distinctive place in the minds of the target market (Kotler Keller 2009).One drop of Dawn
completing a sink full of dishes is the goal it helps consumers achieve. Dawn positions itself has a
unique liquid with power scrubbers. In the consumers mind they see little power scrubbers that eat and
destroy the grease particles in the water and on the dishes. No other dish washing liquid claims to have
tiny power scrubbers in their liquid that fight and destroy grease. The interview with Terri is complete.
Terri has a better understanding of why she feels Dawn is the only dishwashing liquid she will use.
The second part of the research will identify how Dawn identifies market segments and targets? How
has Dawn developed its brand

The American Dream Is Sublime Motivation
You can have anything you want, if you want it badly enough. You can be anything you want to be, do
anything you set out to accomplish if you hold to that desire with singleness of purpose said one of
America s founding father s, Abraham Lincoln. America, the land of the free, the home of the brave. A
country where it doesn t matter what color of skin a person has, how tall or short they are, or what
family they came from; but what does matter is values, and the amount of courage people have. The
opportunities in America are endless, and for that reason, people in other countries would do anything
to live the American Dream .People will journey far and wide, traverse the entire continent, suffer all
manner of pain and suffering, if they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Langston Hughes uses a unique style, language, and diction to portray his point about dreams. Does it
dry up, like a raisin in the sun? (2 3) This symbolizes a hardening, from a grape to a raisin. If a dream
is destroyed it hardens the heart. It becomes useless just the like the dried up raisin. Hughes also
suggests that maybe unrealized dreams are a heavy load which symbolizes a burden, something to
heavy to bear, something that weighs a person down always. This poem is like the American Dream, if
you do not pursue your dream right away it may slip away from you and eventually it will be gone.
The American Dream can be fulfilled through hard word work and passion, it will not come easy.
Everyone has the opportunity to grasp the chance to become successful through dreams and goals.
Langston Hughes realized the importance of dreams and having those dreams torn apart. His poem,
Dream Deferred , uses strong images to create a picture of a negative and destructive outcome for a
dreamer left unable to dream. Nothing can stop a man with the right mental attitude from achieving
his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude , Thomas Jefferson. So this
is where all the dreaming takes me, to a cold, empty reality , this is the opening line of the poem The
Dream of Reality , by Ivy S., Loganville. Most dreams are meant to be dreams for a reason, but no

Experiment #1 Nucleophilic Aromatic Substitution of 2,4 dinitrochlorobenze Name: Anouk Deck
Leger Student I.D: 9380868 Date performed: September 13th, 2010 Due Date: September 20th, 2010
Introduction: The company DNCB produces large amounts of 2,4 dinitrochlorobenzene and they sell
this product to treat against warts and severe and chronic hair loss. It can also be used as an alternative
treatment for HIV. The supervisor notices an excess amount of m aminobenzoic acid stored away
which is currently not being used for anything. This reactant can be used in certain reactions to
produce valuable solutions for ophthalmologists. This product is going to waste, and our objective is

FT IR spectrum The major peaks are C=O, O H, N H, C=C, and NO2.1 A peak between 1660 and
1820 cm 1 (presence of C O) and a broad peak between 2400 and 3400cm 1 (presence of O H)
indicates the presence of carboxylic acid (COOH). In this graph there is a peak at 3248 cm 1 (C O)
and a peak at 1589 cm 1 (O H) which confirms the presence of carboxylic acid. To confirm the
presence of amides, a medium absorption near 3400 cm 1 should be observed which is the case in this
graph. Absorptions in the region of 1450 to 1600 cm 1 often designate an aromatic ring and when
consulting the C H region we can confirm its aromatic since the peak is to the left of the 3000 cm 1.
Nitro groups give two strong absorptions at 1530 1600 cm 1 and 1300 1390 cm 1. H NMR spectrum
Nuclei tend to be deshielded by groups which withdraw electron density. Deshielded nuclei resonate at
higher δ values, whereas shielded nuclei resonate at lower δ values.Examples of electron withdrawing
substituents are OH, OCOR, OR, NO2 and halogens. Discussion: We began this experiment by
weighing out the known values of mass for 1 chloro 2,4 dinitrobenzene and m aminobenzoic acid
which was 1.012g and 0.686g respectively. These values were calculated before the experiement based
on the mole ratios of the balanced equation in question. Here the reaction was a 1:1 ratio so we were
able to determine the theoretical mass of our product, m (2,4 dinitroanilino)

Life and works of John Steinnbeck Essay
John Steinbeck was probably the best author of all time. He was the winner of a Nobel Prize, and
along with many other accomplishments, Steinbeck wrote twenty five books, including sixteen novels,
six non fiction books and several collections of short stories during his lifetime. Seventeen of his
works, including The Grapes of Wrath, Cannery Row, The Pearl, and East of Eden, went on to become
Hollywood films, some appeared multiple times, as remakes. Steinbeck also had some success as a
Hollywood writer, receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Story in 1944 for Alfred
Hitchcock s Lifeboat. Many of his life experiences are shown through his novels. Someone can tell, by

Also during the time he spent outdoors, he began farming in the Salinas Valley. Mostly Salinas Valley
was built up by farmers that came after original settlers had arrived. John Ernest Steinbeck was born
in Salinas Valley, on February 27, 1902 from German and Irish decent. His father was the county s
treasurer and his mother who was a school teacher nurtured John s ability to read and write. In 1919
Steinbeck graduated from Salinas High School and later attended Stanford University. Originally an
English major, he pursued a program of independent study. During this time at the University he
worked at various jobs and left Stanford permanently in 1925, without a degree, in order to pursue his
writing career in New York. He failed at getting any of his writing published and then returned back to
California, as a resort handyman in Lake Tahoe. His first novel, Cup of Gold, about the pirate Henry
Morgan who had captured Steinbeck s imagination as a child, was finally published in 1929, but
received little attention. His two following novels, The Pastures of Heaven and To a God Unknown,
were also somewhat unnoticed by the literary world. In 1930 Steinbeck married his first wife Carol
Henning. They both lived in Pacific Grove where a large amount of the material was influenced for
Tortilla Flat and Cannery Row. Tortilla Flat, published in 1935 marked the turning point in Steinbeck s
career. For Tortilla Flat, Steinbeck received the California Commonwealth Club s Gold Medal

What Is The Valley Of Ashes In The Great Gatsby
In the fiction novel The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the story is told from the first person
point of view through Nick Carraway, retelling the accounts of our protagonist, Jay Gatsby.
Throughout this piece, Jay Gatsby strives to be with his so called true love , Daisy, but soon finds out
that she married another man, which creates conflict between many of the characters. The Great
Gatsby has an abundance of symbols throughout the entire text, including the Valley of Ashes
representing the moral and social decay of society in the 1920s, the green light symbolizing Gatsby s
desire to have Daisy as well as the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleberg representing God piercing down upon
and judging the American society of this era. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To explain not only do they live in an atmosphere full of ash, but it is turning regular humans into ash
grey men who swarm like insects around the factories and cargo trains (that s the line of grey cars ).
These are the people who do not get to enjoy either the luxury of life out on Long Island or the faster
paced anonymous fun that Nick finds himself enjoying in Manhattan. In the novel s world of haves
and have nots, these are the have nots. In conclusion, the Valley of Ashes shows the social decay that
results from the wealthy indulging people of West and East Egg taking advantage society and leaving
the poor have to live among the ashes. Another major symbol in the great gatsby that relates to the
social decay of society is the green light, which represents gatsby s hopes and dreams for his future
which is associated with daisy. But it doesn t just relate to the social decay, but also the way on how
corrupt minds view the American dream and what it should be. Gatsby is hoping that his dream can
become a reality so he can stop being lonely and finally fill that missing piece of his life. He looks at
this light every night, he stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way as he looks at
the light he imagines himself in a happy home with daisy and everything is great in his mind which is
what he wants.

Children With Scis And Caregivers Living
This project is developed to educate patients with SCIs and caregivers living in the New York City
(NYC) and Long Island areas of New York as they are the primary audiences. Data that will be

living. These questions will be evaluated to determine the appropriate resources gathered for them
along with the agency based on the responses. The awareness of these resources can help people living
with SCIs reduce developing conditions that affect their mental and social health, such as depression

A health theory that applies to the project on SCIs is the social cognitive theory because it describes a
dynamic, ongoing process in which personal factors, environmental factors, and human behavior exert
influence upon each other (National Cancer Institute, pp. 19, 2005). Three main factors of the social
cognitive theory that affect the likelihood of a person performing a behavior are self efficacy, goals,
and outcome expectancies (National Cancer Institute, pp. 20, 2005). A goal of this project is to help
improve or maintain the self efficacy of people living with SCIs and their caregivers, leading to them
to have a better quality of life. Self efficacy is defined as confidence in the ability of a person to
overcome barriers and take action (National Cancer Institute, pp. 20, 2005). The projected outcomes

Black Panther s Last Letter To His Father
Dear Mr. O leirin, I am a civilian in Wakanda writing on behalf of the Black Panther to nominate him
as a Nobel prize candidate for morality. I feel he should win the award because he possesses loyalty,
confidence, leadership and cooperation, as he is one of the most known superhumans (compound). In
my mind these these three virtues make him as deserving as anyone. The Black Panther is a great
leader of Wakanda, he serves his people very well, but he is also a great warrior. (C C) His father, the
former King of Wakanda was killed in a bombing a few months ago, so he has taken on a tough task.

Everyone knows how feared the Winter Soldier is but the Black Panther would stop at nothing to catch
him, which leads me to my first virtue, loyalty. The Winter Soldier has killed thousands of people
before and is nothing but bad to this world. The only problem is, nobody has ever tried to stop him,
until now. The Black Panther is loyal to his father. Like I said the Winter Soldier is very dangerous,
the Black Panther faced him without second guessing it, which leads me to my second virtue,
confidence. The Black Panther explodes with confidence because he is highly trained (Complex).
Even then, that does not give everyone else to want to face the Winter Soldier. Third is cooperation he
cooperates with the Avengers because they want to find Captain America and the Falcon who is with
the Winter Soldier so they work together to find the Winter Soldier, Captain America and the Falcon.
The Black Panther teamed up with the avengers, as it was the best way to catch the Winter Soldier
(compound). The fourth and final virtue is leadership. Immediately after his father was killed, He took

The Effects Of Yellowstone Volcanic Complex On The World
Introduction
Yellowstone volcano is one of the most explosive, active silicic volcanic fields in the world and is
classified as a super volcano . Its Late Quaternary history, in terms of ages, sizes and frequency of
eruptions, has been well documented (Farrell et al., 2014). Understanding its properties will help us to
better understand the hazards it poses, both now and in the future. As it is protected from geothermal
energy or mineral exploration and development, Yellowstone provides a unique opportunity to
research an undisturbed major volcanic system and the temporal and spatial changes that occur
naturally (Hurwitz Lowenstern, 2014).
This report discusses the history of Yellowstone volcanic complex over the past 2.1 million years,
eruptive style, compositions, associated hazards and the structure of the magma chamber. In addition,
we look at areas into which research is currently occurring or should in the future, and discuss a
strategy for monitoring and forecasting of future activity.
History
Over the past 2.1 million years, three large eruptions with widespread effects have occurred in the
Yellowstone Plateau Volcanic Field (YPVF) (Hurwitz Lowenstern, 2014). The first of these was 2.059
± 0.004 Ma (Lanphere et al., 2002), and produced the 2450 km3 Huckleberry Ridge Tuff. The second
was at 1.285 ± 0.004 Ma (Lanphere et al., 2002), producing the 280 km3 Mesa Falls Tuff and the
Henrys Fork caldera. The most recent of the three occurred 0.639 ± 0.002

Black Robe Historical Analysis Black Robe: A Historical Analysis Black Robe presents the story of a French Jesuit missionary struggling to stay true to his religion while traveling from Champlain s fur trading outpost to a Huron Native American mission in Nouvelle France during the 17th century. Father Paul La Forgue sets out on the 1,500 mile journey with members of the Algonquian tribe and a young Frenchman named Daniel Davost, determined to convert the savages to Christianity. Throughout the film, Father La Forgue faces the Algonquians beliefs that he is a demon, calling him Black Robe , and even abandoning him for a short period. The fictional sorcerer subjects Father La Forgue to the same historical treatment that the actual Mestagoit applied to Father Le Jeune in 1634. Mestagoit tries to scare the demon Black Robe with loud noises, tells the Algonquians that they should kill La Forgue, and chastises the Algonquians for accepting the French s gifts of flints, pots, and axes. A large inaccuracy in the film was the depiction of the Algonqians language. In Black Robe, the act of learning the native language of the Algonquians is portrayed as a commonality to many of the French. In reality, the native language was extensive and had extremely complicated vocabularies, with many variations, especially among the various tribes. Where the Algonquian and Montagnais depiction was based mostly upon historical accuracies, the Iroquois depiction in the film Black Robe was based largely upon gross inaccuracies. While the Iroquois were known historically for their brutality, the running of the gauntlet that the Frenchmen and Algonquian Chief Chomina had to complete was one of the only true Iroquois practices depicted in the film. The Iroquois in the film then deviate from history further to demonstrate puzzling behavior in the scenes within their encampment. Traditionally, the Iroquois take young men captives and give them to someone in the tribe that has lost a loved one in order to replace the hole that had been left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The entire region was in disorder; there were many conflicts between the monarchy and the aristocracy. The New Scotland, specifically Dunblane, was restored and revived by a nobleman who went by name Blessed Clement of Dunblane. Although there was more than one individual that aided in the reconstruction of the province, Clement of Dunblane was the man who was recognized with the majority of the changes that were made during the 1200 s in Scotland. The transformation of the Scottish Church mainly took place in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, when the new churches were constructed and new bishops were appointed to care around the clock for the well being of the buildings. Before the adjustments, the crown of Scotland and the crown of England were seldom at peace, resulting in the tremendous growth and development of the Catholic Church. This can be related to Dante s belief in a special power of the number three in Christian tradition. Also, number three has a significant meaning in the content of the comedy. In the beginning Dante meets three animals a leopard, a lion and she wolf, those beasts represent three types of sins. When Dante and Virgil get closer to Lucifer, they can see that he has three heads, also in each mouth he has three greatest sinners in history Judas, Brutus and Cassius. In the first Canto, Dante tells his story that after he reached the middle of his life journey, he once got lost in the forest and woke to find myself [Dante] in a dark wood (Inferno, Canto I, 2). • 9. A Good Man Is Hard To Find Literary Analysis A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Conner shows the battle of society vs. class. The grandmother in A Good Man is hard to find gives great importance to being a lady, and her ideas about what that means reflect an old fashioned, Southern mindset. She uses the n word and longs for the good old days when kids were polite, people were trustworthy. All of this leads her to associate being good with coming from a respectable family and behaving like a member of her social class; those who don t are outsiders. All of this is put to the test when she meets The Misfit. Society vs. Class shows that everyone is truly equal and at the end of the day social class doesn t make a difference. O Conner shows this through her use of Tone and Characterization throughout the story. The grandmother is representative of godliness and Christianity which O Connor apparently believed to be more prevalent in the 1950 s down south. the grandmother had on a navy blue straw sailor hat with a bunch of white violets on the brim and a navy blue dress with a small white dot in the print. Predominantly, it is a person s place in the world based off of race, religion, sexuality, gender, etc. All the factors that influence a person s social location not only tell their standing or place in the world, but how they were raised, who they are looking forward to becoming, and how they will fare in the future. A person s beliefs weigh heavily into social location more than other factors later in life. Early on, it tends to be the unchangeable features such as gender and race that weigh down. • 11. Biography Of Garson Kanin And David Crane And Hands On A... This past week, I had the opportunity to experience a magnificent play called Born Yesterday by Garson Kanin. This performance was the third of three plays I saw at the Arizona Repertory Theatre. The other two plays were Epic Proportions by Larry Coen and David Crane and Hands on a Hardbody by Doug Wright. These were the first plays I have been to, not only while attending the University of Arizona, but in my generation as a teenager. All together, these performances were amazing and have brought a newly improved insight to my perception of theatre. The hard work and dedication by the actors, directors, producers, cast members, and sound developers were absolutely incredible and I have tremendous respect for their efforts during the overall sequence of producing the plays. The most recent performance I saw, Born Yesterday, can be described and reflected on through various topics such as lighting, sound, directing and producing. I decided to arrive a half hour early to witness all the elements of the stage, audience, and theater in order to truly express my thoughts on the external features of the play. The Marroney theatre has 332 seats which were designed like movie theatre chairs. They were manufactured to be a bold red with black carpet surrounding the floor to cover the entire theatre space. For the first thirty minutes before Born Yesterday started, the theatre played classical music to soothe the ears of the audience and create a bridge to a rather quiet prolonged ... Through his use of juxtaposition, enjambment, and repetition, Komunyakaa reveals the thematic ideas of cooperation and struggle against the many adversities of life. Within the poem, Komunyakaa repeatedly juxtaposes good and evil with phrases such as bad angels , swivels of faith and bone , and Beautiful dangerous . In the literal context of the poem, these juxtapositions are used to highlight the greatness of the speaker and his team. The first is that it emphasizes the importance of unity. He doesn t describe the movement of one player in the game because there is no single player; there is a unit, a team. The team is successful and Beautiful dangerous because they are a team. They are one. The repetition of we also serves to emphasize the importance of he when Komunyakaa shifts the poem to focus on one specific team member, Sonny Boy. When his mother died, Sonny Boy played nonstop, all day . This expounds upon the theme of the poem (passion is savior). When Komunyakaa returns to the plural we , he does it in the same sentence, saying that Sonny Boy played nonstop, all day, so hard our backboard splintered . • 15. Analysis Of Daniel Handler s A Series Of Unfortunate Events Most authors tend to write their books in a cheerful way. Daniel Handler, on the other hand, writes in a gloomy style, showing the not so nice things that can happen to people. For example, the three Baudelaire orphans in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Siblings who just lose their parents in a deadly house fire and have to deal with the trouble known as Count Olaf, a villain after their enormous inheritance. Handler wrote the 13 books in the series under the pseudonym Lemony Snicket. A Series of Unfortunate Events is Handler s best known work. In the last book of the series, the three Baudelaires are in the middle of the ocean on a boat after leaving a burning hotel where they worked undercover. Unfortunately, the children are accompanied by Count Olaf, the man after their money. And the Baudelaire fortune is finally mine! Olaf cackled Finally, I am a very wealthy man, which means everybody must do what I say! Was Olaf s reaction to their predicament even though his statement is completely false. Snicket made Count Olaf the antagonist in the story, a manipulative villain where in his mind money equals power. He lives in his own fairytale where he is superior. To make the Baudelaires situation worse, a storm is added to the mix showing that the kids can never get a break, pushing their intelligence and strength. The storm led the Baudelaires and Olaf to an island of strange customs. But the Baudelaires could not help but feel that they were abandoning their previous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This condition is known as hypoxemia. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) can lead to numerous and very serious problems.[2] Acute respiratory distress syndrome is a life threatening injury and will require immediate attention to prevent further damage. • 21. Global Epistemological Skepticism Essay Epistemological skepticism is the idea that individuals lack knowledge or justification for a specific group of propositions (Barnett, 2014). Skepticism with respect to all propositions is known as global skepticism, and it reveals that knowledge is nonexistent (2014). The regress problem is a difficulty in epistemology, where an idea has to be justified, because the justification itself has to have further reasoning (2014). The infinite regress argument concludes that individuals lack justification and knowledge (since knowledge requires justification) through its premises, but non doxastic evidence ends the regress argument without circularity or arbitrariness. The infinite regress argument dates back to Sectus Empiricus, 3rd century ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, B cannot be a reason for B itself, and second, a reason for B cannot alternate between B and that reason. In other words, circular reasoning is expelled from being proper justification, and foundational reasons are not sufficient due to the absence of a further reason. If both conditions are true, then the chain of reasons for any belief is potentially infinite or unlimited. The problem with infinitism is that an infinite number of beliefs, whether potential or not, do not exist. Humans have finite minds and finite lives, and eventually after being questioned numerous times there will be no more reasons that could be possibly formed to justify a belief. For example, when a child continues to ask his or her parent Why? , after a series of reasons the parent will not be able to devise an answer to the question. Therefore, infinitism is not a strong response to skepticism. Coherentism is the view that individuals have justified beliefs, which result from a finite system of beliefs that promote each other non circularly without the requirement for justification outside of the system (2014). For coherentism, justification is a procedure in which all of the beliefs are seen wholly as a system rather than individual parts. For example, V , V , and V are beliefs. The beliefs V , V , and V work together to achieve epistemic justification without the need for any further ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Fantasy And Fantasy In Mulholland Drive As we contrast the first part of the film with the second, it becomes evident that the first appears to be all the more genuine, more in keeping with our expectations concerning reality. But this feeling of reality results from the film s fantastic dimension rather than its realism. Where we usually contrast fantasy with reality, Mulholland Drive underlines the connection between the two, portraying fantasy s role in giving reality with the structure that it has. The film supports Lacan s claim that everything we are allowed to approach by way of reality remains rooted in fantasy (Stavrakakis 62). Hence fantasy should not be seen as opposed to reality because it is fantasy that sustains what we experience as reality. This idea that fantasy supports our sense of reality is evident in Lost Highway and earlier Lynch films, and he uses fantasy as a major category or theme in almost all of his films. The movie creates a sense of mystery and a sense of basic uncertainty that we normally connect with the element of desire. It uses darkness, threatening characters, ominous music and unusual editing sequences, all of which represents desire in a manner very typical of Hollywood narrative style. Desire is always associated with not knowing, posing questions that do not have answers, lack of narrative elements and confusing irrational series of random events. As Lacan speaks about desire in Seminar X, as long as I desire, I know nothing of what I desire (98). To depict this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She was the first person to ever perform blues and the first internationally known African American female blues singer. Her music acted as inspiration for many distinguished figures during the Harlem Renaissance, and continues to influence contemporary music and art. A single source of blues music cannot be traced, but Ma Rainey is rightfully credited with introducing it to the world. Hence the reason she was dubbed as The Mother of the Blues . During an interview in the 1930s, Ma told musicologist John Work, that she heard what would be called blues, for the first time around 1902. She was in a small town in Missouri working a show at the time, and one morning a local girl came into the tent singing about a man whom had left her. This new style of soulful music drew in Ma Rainey so much she later had the girl teach her the song. Rainey performed the song as an encore in a show soon after, earning a special place in the show, and marking the start of her career (Jas Obrecht Archive). Gertrude Pridgett was born in 1986 to tent performers Thomas Pridgett Sr. and Ella Allen Pridgett. Both were said to had traveled around the south performing minstrel shows, which was the most popular form of live comedy entertainment from 1840 to the early nineteenth century (Biography.com). These artists help the movement by maintaining a culture upon which the use of marijuana is cool . This promotion of marijuana by such celebrated people creates a sense of collective identity. Historically, one of the most obvious means through which group identity has been manifested and shared is through language generally, and music specifically (Danaher Roscigno:26). Athletes like Michael Phelps, Allen Iverson, and Randy Moss advocate for the use of marijuana. Politicians like former president Bill Clinton, current president Barack Obama, and senator John McCain have all been very vocal about reforming the current marijuana policy. Media coverage of SMOs is key to both substantiating their claims to represent groups and developing important cultural outcomes (Goodwin Jasper:312). In the book, Native Son, there are many examples of Marxism that have to do with underestimating and unfairness. To Bigger, white people would always think they were above him. After years of being told you are bad at something, sometime you start to believe it yourself, and after a while it would be hard not to go crazy being treated like you were an animal. It was refreshing to see that finally, within this chapter these topics among other were finally being addressed in further depth than before. What was particularly striking in this week s readings was the role of privilege and awareness. In the article by Hernandez Wolfe and McDowell (2012), the idea to shift the focus on oppression to a focus on privilege in counseling and psychology is imperative. After reading the article I find this useful seeing that once this shift can be made, awareness of privilege and lack of privilege becomes essential to help elicit action for change. Although it was mentioned that sometimes action is not always achieved, the awareness piece is becoming increasingly important, especially in counseling psychology. As mentioned in the article, moving from oppression, focused to privilege focused reminded me a little of solution focused therapy. Focusing on the positives and strengths to elicit change. Although privilege is not necessarily a strength, it is an important concept to focus on. Understanding that, many people who do not have to experience a lack of privilege difficulties in the therapy setting, in particular, it is important to address these issues. • 35. Essay about Let s Stand Up for Liberty Who is Robyn Blumner? Perhaps she is simply your everyday editorialist for a daily newspaper. Or, as the former executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida (ACLU), could she possibly have her own agenda? One of Blumner s columns entitled Let s stand up for liberty was published in a well known editorial writers magazine called The Masthead . In summary, it focuses on freedom of speech, and how we tend to lose sight of it, or even have it taken from us during national hardships. She feels that the government tends to deny us of these freedoms when we need them the most, during war. Blumner sturdily supports her claims throughout the course of her column. However, does the fact that she was once affiliated with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blumner claims during World War I, few editorial boards stood up for civil liberties. Instead, they chose to reflect the xenophobic [anti immigrant] views of their readership [par.16]. In support, she quotes from a professor of journalism, Joseph McKerns, to back her statement. McKerns asserts foreigners were the ones portrayed as a threat rather than merely exercising free speech [par.18]. He also alleges the daily press made a convenient separation, seeing the speech of the political activist as different from what it did [par.17]. By accentuating her interest of immigrant s rights, could it be she is supporting yet again, her past organization? Where do her priorities lie? So far we have identified her support of national freedom and immigrant s rights. Throughout the course of the article she also defends the rights of Japanese Americans, German Americans, and defends publishers that were prosecuted for violating the Espionage Act in wartime history. She may have valid claims, but she is still being biased. What about the natives of Iraq that gained liberties from the capture of Saddam Hussein? War doesn t always have viewed negatively. Apparently she was respected enough to be published. However, a little background on The Masthead is nothing more than an opinion writing magazine. Does this make her credible? I think not! In the beginning I was compelled by her article. It truly made me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Congress Most Influential Policy Blunder Aside from the decision to assign the project to the DOE in the first place, Congress most influential policy blunder was picking the Yucca Mountain site and leaving no back ups or alternatives through the NWPAA. It was done before the DOE had even finished evaluating all of its potential sites as Congress had tasked it through the original NWPA. This decision by Congress is what ultimately led to reports of falsified scientific documents as the DOE was essentially forced by the NWPAA to make due with any issues they found at Yucca or face losing the entire federal nuclear repository project. Had the DOE been both capable of and allowed to finish its own siting of the repository it would have likely kept the decision open until scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality what the EPA had done was set a site specific performance standard, based on what qualifications they knew would be compatible with Yucca instead of setting a general performance standard based on safety and science (Ewing Hippel, 2009). This superficial performance standard was in part responsible for the shut down of Yucca Mountain as its authenticity and scientific accuracy came into question along with the report of falsified documents. The decision in the NWPAA to pick Yucca Mountain without any real selection process created one of the biggest altercations between groups and organizations interested in this policy. By picking a site in Nevada, a state with no nuclear reactors and a strong majority opinion against the construction of a repository, Congress pitted the entire state against the federal government and other states. Nevada residents are so opposed to the completion of the facility, polled at 76% in 2007 (Las Vegas Review Journal), that it has become a requirement of anyone hoping to hold federal office in the state to feel the same sentiment. Because of this governors, senators, and representatives from Nevada all view the permanent closing of Yucca as a priority and adamantly oppose motions that would see the facility operational. • 37. Rio Host Impacts Essay Name Prof. Class Date Title Every four years the world goes into a clamor for the Olympic Games, and cities aggressively bid for the right to host these events. Cities literally fight for the right to hold these games and spend exorbitant amounts of money in the hopes of bringing the worlds Olympiad s to their municipality. But, is the prestige of being the host worth it for the host city? It is becoming more apparent that these endeavors are detrimental to the economy, if you look at the five most recent summer Olympics; Rio de Janeiro, London, Beijing, Athens, and Sydney. Many of these cities apply with the hopes of a positive long term impact, many in recent times to be severely disappointed. Rio won it s Olympic bid in 2009, after several years of solid GDP growth and was one of the most dynamic emerging economies at the time. The summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were plagued by controversy even before the games started, with concerns over the outbreak of the Zika virus as well as the concerns about the water in the area (Rapoza). After Brazil announced that it would host the 2016 Olympics it has invested twelve billion dollars in infrastructure alone between 2009 2015, something that had to be developed to support the influx of tourists and athletes (Rapoza). This investment in the infrastructure and public spending increased the debt of Rio by 17%, and the state received a bailout from the government in June. In the investment phase there was ... Christmas is my absolute favorite season, and I do quite know the reason. Christmas was always filled with a lot of joyous experiences; my entire family always became so happy immediately after the Thanksgiving Holiday ended. My dad probably influenced me the most when it comes to Christmas; because the Christmas season was the only time his dysfunctional family unified. My favorite part about Christmas was all of the traditions my family had. The first one was watching the movie National Lampoon s Christmas Vacation on Thanksgiving night while starting to decorate the house for Christmas. My family and I never wasted any time on getting into the Christmas Spirit, but it really has never taken much for us to get into it. Usually, within the next day or two, we would go out in our front wheel drive sleigh and find that one perfect Christmas tree that was a little full and had a lotta sap . Every year my dad would cut it down with the same dull saw that he said the previous year he was going to replace and it was always quite comical watching him cut the tree down; sometimes I thought it would have been faster if he just dug it out of the ground with his bare hands. President Heckler gave a speech which I, personally, found extremely scripted and boring causing my mind to wander elsewhere. After Heckler finished, eventually it was time for Cornel West to speak, which was easily the most entertaining part of the event. (2 3) This symbolizes a hardening, from a grape to a raisin. If a dream is destroyed it hardens the heart. It becomes useless just the like the dried up raisin. Hughes also suggests that maybe unrealized dreams are a heavy load which symbolizes a burden, something to heavy to bear, something that weighs a person down always. In this graph there is a peak at 3248 cm 1 (C O) and a peak at 1589 cm 1 (O H) which confirms the presence of carboxylic acid. To confirm the presence of amides, a medium absorption near 3400 cm 1 should be observed which is the case in this graph. Absorptions in the region of 1450 to 1600 cm 1 often designate an aromatic ring and when consulting the C H region we can confirm its aromatic since the peak is to the left of the 3000 cm 1. Nitro groups give two strong absorptions at 1530 1600 cm 1 and 1300 1390 cm 1. H NMR spectrum Nuclei tend to be deshielded by groups which withdraw electron density. The Effects Of Yellowstone Volcanic Complex On The World Introduction Yellowstone volcano is one of the most explosive, active silicic volcanic fields in the world and is classified as a super volcano . Its Late Quaternary history, in terms of ages, sizes and frequency of eruptions, has been well documented (Farrell et al., 2014). Understanding its properties will help us to better understand the hazards it poses, both now and in the future. As it is protected from geothermal energy or mineral exploration and development, Yellowstone provides a unique opportunity to research an undisturbed major volcanic system and the temporal and spatial changes that occur naturally (Hurwitz Lowenstern, 2014). This report discusses the history of Yellowstone volcanic complex over the past 2.1 million years, eruptive style, compositions, associated hazards and the structure of the magma chamber. In addition, we look at areas into which research is currently occurring or should in the future, and discuss a strategy for monitoring and forecasting of future activity.
