Presentation Of A Super Bowl Viewing Party
Introduction:
This fall our class collaborated with Big Brother Big Sister of the Ocean State. Their issue that they
brought to Bryant is that they were in desperate need of more male Bigs to satisfy the huge number of
boy Littles without a Big.
The Experience:
By no means did this project move smoothly from start to finish. During my brief time, here at Bryant
University I have worked and lead in various group projects, this group was by far the most efficient
and well rounded group I have been apart of. However, we did not even come close to our potential.
With the in class, presentation from Big Brother Big Sister of the Ocean State came my first idea for a
way to attract male Bigs. The idea happened to be a Super Bowl viewing ... Show more content on

After about twenty minutes of comparing schedules, we finally found a time, in which we could set
our weekly meeting (Wednesdays at 7:00 P.M.). On several occasions when we had to meet outside
this time, we would have to miss a team member during the meeting due to the major scheduling issue
we faced all semester. As a team, we faced another issue; one group member seems to be negligent to
the team and fails to complete quality/timely work as well as a non active group member during
meetings. Being the group leader, I feel personally responsible for the lack of motivation this group
member has so in order to try to resurrect their motivation I attempted to talk individually with the
person and send individual reminders numerous times before deadlines and lend a helping hand if
needed. Unfortunately, my attempts can be considered a failure due to the regression in this person s
work as well as mental/physical attendance during meeting hours. Going off my group leader blunders
also throughout the Service Learning Project I failed to implement the Dashboard and Gantt Chart into
my team s daily life. Without these management maintenance and planning tools our team seemed to
be semi chaotic and unorganized at times, which lead to minor quality of work issues ultimately taking
away from our outcomes as a team.
Throughout the Service Learning Project, my team had one reoccurring issue with our sponsoring
organization, lack of communication. In an attempt to broaden

The Novel Fifth Business
In the novel Fifth Business, women played an important role that impacted Dunstan emotionally and
spiritually. From a young age, Dunstan s mother, Mrs. Ramsay, placed fear and isolation in his heart
and was the reason he became emotionally distanced from women. He turned towards Mrs. Dempster
as she provided him the love and affection that he wasn t able to receive from his mother. She also
sparked his interest in hagiography and to pursue his study in inner spirituality. As he comes of age
and meets Diana, she was able to introduce him to a new world while teaching him new experiences.
However, their relationship was short lived due to the treatment and mental damage he received from
his mother when he was younger. While women like Mrs. Ramsay affected Dunstan negatively, others
such as Diana and Mrs. Dempster were able to heal him and provide a greater growth for Dunstan
spiritually and emotionally.
Dunstan first got involved with Mrs. Dempster during the snowball incident where the snowball aimed
at him by the town bully instead hits the pregnant Mary Dempster, precipitating the premature birth of
her son and her descent into mental illness. (Bowers). Dunstan believed that by moving out of the
snowball s path, that he broke apart Mary Dempster s life and so he carries this guilt for the rest of his
life. By being caring towards Mrs. Dempster and helping her out in any way possible, it was his way
of repaying Percy s sins. Mrs. Dempster performed 3 miracles that sparked

Kellie Howell Thesis
Walking into a silent courtroom, it is quiet. All you can hear is the footsteps you are making as you
approach the jury to do an opening statement. You feel anxious and excited all at the same time,
because at the beginning of your career, you were the jury. This is what Kellie Howell experiences
everyday as she walks into a courtroom. Kellie Howell started this profession with intentions of
helping people when nobody else will. Although there are many moments of excitement, there are also
difficulties. This is what makes Kellie continue to push forward in this field. Kellie Howell, a defense
attorney of Del City, Oklahoma, was motivated to pursue this career because she felt it was necessary
to represent others in their darkest hour. Kellie was excited to join this field because she knew she
could help others in a way that most cannot. Kellie Howell started off in the Air Force branch. She
served as a cop during the time she was in the military. Being a cop she had seen the good and the bad

against the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round and 24 7 against the Arizona Cardinals in the
NFC Championship Game at halftime of both games, the Panthers have become accustomed to front
running. Carolina has been a front running team all year, scoring early and often en route to a league
high 15 wins. If the Panthers can get out to a big early lead against the Broncos, Denver s offense

Pieter Claesz Still Life Essay
At first glance, Pieter Claesz s oil on wood panel composition appears to be an elegant table scene that
leaves the viewer with a desire for lightly salted crab served with a squeeze of lemon, a crusty roll and
a quaff of Rhenish wine. To an extent, this painting is indeed a feast for the senses and a
contemplation of fine food, temptingly presented amongst handsome dinnerware. Yet, by looking
deeper into this beautifully rendered still life, it becomes apparent that a greater moral and religious
message sits within this celebration of Dutch life and craftsmanship in the Seventeenth century.
In A still life with a roemer, a crab and a peeled lemon, the titled objects are closely arranged, with
some overlap, in a rectangular format to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lemon, for example, half peeled, connotes the passage of time. The pith is beginning to dry and
lose its succulence symbolizing the transitory nature of worldly pleasures. The gilded saltcellar softly
looms in the background and quietly presages the vanity that comes with wealth. There are moral
undertones at play with the roemer of wine and its surrounding trimmings too. The luxuries of the
world are only temporary and not eternal. The wine will sour, the grapes will rot and the vine will wilt.
Also by representing the glass of wine as half filled the viewer is reminded of the virtues of
temperance and the perils of

Arranged Marriages Compare And Contrast Nnaemeka And Okeke
In both arranged marriages and love marriages there are some good things but as well as a few bad
things. During the 20th century, arranged marriages were very common among families. In non
western countries many of the cultures say that love is not a requirement for marriage (Epstein). First
comes marriage, then comes love. That is the normal in their cultures. Arranged marriages are usually
put together by the parents or close family of the son or daughter. Since it is put together by the
parents, then the parents gain more trust in their child due to their decision (Shanmukh). In arranged
marriages, the love grows overtime unlike studies shown for love marriages. Arranged marriage

In this tribe you are to have arranged marriages that are arranged by the parents. Nnaemeka, Okeke s
son had found a girl himself and wanted to be with her. He loves Nene. Nene is a school teacher and a

silence was infinitely more menacing than a flood of threatening speech (Achebe 191). This kind of
behavior was against their tribe s belief and Okeke referred to it as Satan s work. Love marriages just
did not work for them. The story eventually got to the little village in the heart of the Ibo country that
Nnaemeka and his young wife were a most happy couple (Achebe 193). The son who went against his
tribe s beliefs and fell in love before marriage without it being arranged, was happy with his wife.
Nnaemeka learned that you could still be happily married without it being arranged. Okeke did not
talk to his son for eight years because of his decision. Later in the story, Okeke learned he has two
grandsons and felt remorse for not being able to see them grow up. In the end, Nnaemeka turned out

Michael Henchard Foil
According to the Online Dictionary for Literary Devices, The etymology of the term foil testifies the
aforementioned assertion as the word foil is taken from the practice of backing gems with foil (tool) so
that they shine more brightly. Throughout The Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy sets up multiple
pairs of characters as foils to contrast them and express his opinion of what attributes a person should
have. Michael Henchard, who cares more for personal gain, is a foil to Richard Newson, who cares for
his wife and daughter. Elizabeth Jane Newson outshines Lucetta Templeman with her belief that a
person s character is more valuable than outward appearance; in a similar sense, Donald Farfrae
surpasses Henchard in character and shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Henchard is still Mayor of Casterbridge, he sets up an event in a field for people to attend.
However, Henchard s plan fails because, A number of people had heroically gathered in the field, but
by three o clock Henchard discerned that his project was doomed to end in failure... But where are the
folk? said Henchard, after the lapse of half an hour, during which time only two men and a woman
had stood up to dance. The shops are all shut. Why don t they come? They are at Farfrae s affair in the
West Walk (103 104). This event is the first major conflict that occurs between Henchard and Farfrae,
and this starts to develop the characters as foils. While Henchard hosts an event in the rain, Farfrae
hosts an event indoors that is popular; this shows Hardy s belief that intelligence is a positive trait to
have. Hardy shows that Farfrae uses logic and gains favor in the town while Henchard does not and
starts to become unpopular. Also defining Henchard and Farfrae as foils, Farfrae shows self control
and understands how to control his anger. After Henchard embarrasses himself in front of Royalty,
Farfrae meets him and chastises him by saying,
You insulted Royalty, Henchard; and twas my duty, as the chief magistrate, to stop you. Royalty be
damned, said Henchard. I am as loyal to you, come to that! I am not here to argue.

Historical Book Justice
Throughout much of the historical writings of the Bible, ranging from the book of Joshua to the book
of Esther, the central narrations depict the formation of kingship that leads Israel. This can be further
broken into three sections. First being the Theocracy, covering the period when Israel was ruled by
God. Second, is the Monarchy which traces Israel Kings from the good to the bad leading to the nation
s destruction. Third, is the restoration describing Israel s remnant after the seventy years of captivity.
For the sake of limitation, an example from each section will be analyzed. In the historical books
justice is prevalent because it is an ideal that closely associates with government or an avenue in
which justice is easily issued. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As noted in previous sections, the state of the world was far from shalom and God was on a mission to
restore this. However, it also seemed Israel was not going to be the source of redemption as they only
held the desire to be like the nations, lacking a manner of justice. Yet, in this last category one can
note of the beginning process of restoration until the time of Jesus. In this section, there is one
important verse to pay attention to. In Ezra 10:14 the idea of justice is reinstated but not in a way that
is simply justice put into action, but in the intent to regather the people of God; to bring all back into a
community of love. This is one step closer to restoring shalom. The verse prior to this example is key
in understanding this (Ez. 10:9 14). Ezra the priest is calling the people of Israel to rid of their sin and
draw back into a state that is founded in God s will (justice acted in love, love, generosity, and service)

Characters And Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
In the beginning of William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies , readers meet four young boys from
ages 11 13 who have been stranded on a deserted island with no adults after a flight from home.
Readers come to understand the relationship between Ralph, Jack, Simon and Piggy get complicated
and violent once all laws and rules have disappeared by the end of the novel, 2 boys are dead and the
have changed dramatically. In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech for the novel, Golding stated that, ...
men produce evil as bees produce honey. His statement is that Golding believes that human nature is
automatically evil; he is right.
Golding s view is that evil exists in all humans from birth; he is right. In the lord of the flies the author
shows this clearly. They re all dead, said Piggy, an this is an island. Nobody don t know we re here.
Your dad don t know, nobody don t know His lips quivered and the spectacles dimmed with mist. we
may stay here till we die . ( 14 )This passage says Piggy is doubting about being rescue. When he
says, they re all dead, he is referring to the people who were in the airplane with them before they
ended up in the island. When Golding writes that Piggy s lips quivered, this shows us that piggy is
afraid. This matters to the central idea of human nature because there s fear in the boys.In the lord of
the flies , the author reinforces this idea. If I blow the conch and they don t come back; then we ve had
it. We shan t keep the fire

Diction Analysis
Diction is the selection of words in a literary work. Diction conveys action, implies attitudes, develops
themes, suggests values, and reveals a character. Diction and contrasting imagery are really important
because they are what readers react and connect to. The Flowers , a short story by Alice Walker, is a
great example of diction at play. This short story uses contrasting imagery and diction to develop and
show meaning in the work. The contrasting imagery and diction convey meaning in Alice Walker s
short story, The Flowers because they show how the happy and good times shifted towards gloomy
and sad moments. Also, the contrasting imagery and diction identify the loss of childhood innocence
as a theme and they describe how Myop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diction and contrasting imagery also conveys meaning to the text by showing a shift in the theme
of the work. In the beginning of the short story, diction and imagery played their role in conveying
Myop to be and innocent, young, and happy girl. Towards the middle, Myop was hinted to having an
altering innocence. Finally, the diction and contrasting imagery shatters Myop s life because it
portrays a loss of childhood innocence. Seeing the dead man changed the way she saw life. Instead of
grazing fields and golden surprises, she now saw an empty man with large, broken, white teeth, rotted
clothes, and his head spinning restlessly in the breeze. The word choice and imagery chosen to
describe this scene conveyed meaning to The Flowers because it revealed that Myop s character was
now experiencing a loss of innocence and that the happy and pleasant moments were completely gone.
The description and imagery used to describe the guy illustrates a horrific scene in the readers mind
and conveys that the story had just experienced a plot twist from peaceful times to depressing and
somber moments. There are many instances in which diction and contrasting imagery convey meaning
in The Flowers. The contrasting imagery sets the setting of the story and defines the way Myop sees
the world. The diction elaborates on the setting, reveals Myop s character, and illustrates her loss of
childhood innocence. The diction

Anti-Semitic German Propaganda
During World War II, anti Semitic publications circulating throughout Germany display clear evidence
of pervading the minds of young German children. Julius Steicher, editor of Der Stumer and the agent
responsible for many of the anti Semitic publications (Mills), helped dramatically initiate the German
resistance toward Jews early on in a child s life. It is important to understand the severity of anti
Semitism taught to the future Nazi generation in order to maintain the National Socialist state and
further it s agenda. By examining the ideas, and publications aimed towards children that express
those ideals, it is clear that the National Socialist state wanted to indoctrinate a hateful, militant
agenda into young children. Ultimately, the final result was to maintain the prejudice view that the
Jewish people were the inferior race, and therefore the enemy for future generations.
One of the chief ways to target young German children with Nazi propaganda was through the school
systems. A German educator wrote in The National Socialist Essence of Education, that mathematics
was Aryan spiritual property, an expression of the Nordic fighting spirit, of the Nordic struggle for the
supremacy in the world (Hirsch, 119). Children were given slogans to learn and recite such as: Judas
the Jew betrayed Jesus the German to the Jews (Mann, 90). Furthermore, by 1937, about 97% of all
teachers belonged to the National Socialist Teachers Union (Mills). Established in 1929, the Union

Guns Germs And Steel Imperialism
In the novel Guns, Germs, and Steel, by Jared Diamond, it is emphasized how the modern world holds
an utmost array of differences among societies. Those of Eurasian origin greatly influence the world
of power and wealth. However, other people such as Africans, fought off against European colonial
dictatorship, lack such influence and wealth. And other people, including the Aboriginal Australians,
no longer rule their own land. Rather, they have become decimated and subjugated by European
colonists. Food production, technology, and the decisions made by varying continents played a role in
the fates of societies. Geographic features, along with other factors, dictated the development of guns,

What Diamond failed to discuss is the political decisions made to engage in European imperialism, to
construct steel and guns, and to utilize disease as a weapon. European s acquirement of guns and steel
did not mean they were compelled to use such technology to colonize the other continents. Without
acknowledging this, Europeans appear as inadvertent conquerors. Guns, Germs, and Steel does not
explain the capability for people to make judgements and influence the aftermath. For example, stated
in the epilogue, the Fertile Crescent lost its head start because it was the inhabitants decision to clear
the woodlands periodically, not allowing the vegetation to grow back soon enough. In China, it was
the type of political organization the inhabitants agreed on that allowed one of their dictators to decide
whether they accept innovation for the entire empire. The arrangements that Europe, the Fertile

or another within a company in order to succeed and be profitable. If he abandoned his plan to cut
jobs, he would sacrifice his goal of reducing Nissan s total costs by approximately $10 billion. If
people like Carlos Ghosn do not stand up to the cultural norms of other countries, companies like
Nissan would never improve. We are moving into a world where global business is big and there are
plenty of countries now working together for one, single business, and all participating countries must
learn to cooperate for the best of the business.

Life Long Learner Approach For Teaching
Having believed in life long learner approach, every now and then I have learned from others at
numerous instances. Before CELTA, teaching was just a mundane practice for me. I was very much an
average teacher and barely try to link with any student. Throughout this whole learning process, I have
enjoyed learning through edutainment, a blend of education and entertainment that enhance learning
tremendously. The guidance and assistance given by my mentors are still working exquisitely; for
certain it was a magnum opus. CELTA reformed my teaching practice; I am on the crest of a wave
since then.
Besides, every teacher can narrate numerous highs and lows in their teaching career. Personally, I
experienced many great moments while teaching. Over my last 8 years of teaching and working in
education, one event stands above the rest as my absolute best teaching experience. Through the years,
I learned so much about teaching and dealing with students. Recently I graduated with TESL Ontario
and TESL Canada from Canadian College of Educators, Canada.
Today TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) plays an imperative role in Canada. TESL
Canada National Certification Standards for Instructors of English as a Second Language or Foreign
Language in Adult Programs were developed for instructors trained in Canada an obligation in today s
ESL or educational world. By all odds, education system has developed more and more than the
previous times and it is one of the leading systems

Abdominoplasty Essay
Make no mistake having a tummy tuck is major surgery, and it can take anything from a couple of
weeks to months for you to recover.
The medical term for a tummy tuck is Abdominoplasty. The purpose of a tummy tuck is to tighten the
abdomen walls and muscles. It does a great job of minimizing a protruding stomach, but it s not
always straightforward. Some possible side effects after having a tummy tuck include scarring,
infection or a long recovery period.
Some people think that a tummy tuck is a magical solution to help them lose a substantial amount of
weight, but this isn t true. In fact, a good surgeon will usually refuse to perform this surgery on a very
obese person. There are too many risks, both with the surgery and the anesthesia,

Essay on German Genocide Target
It is hard to picture that along with others that, 6 million Jews were targeted and killed during the
Holocaust. It is astonishing to realize how racist and cruel the Nazis acted towards the Jews.
According to A Teacher s Guide to the Holocaust, once Hitler was in control of the German
government he translated his harsh feeling toward Jews into many policies and statutes which eroded
the rights of German Jews from 1933 1939 ( Victims ). The anti Jewish racist legislation passed The
Nuremberg Laws in September, 1935. These laws made an extremely in depth Nazi definition of who

I think many German people and Nazis were pressured to join the Nazi Party in this mass murder
because, if found or caught helping out the Jews in any way they were considered traitors and possibly
killed as well. Jews and only the Jews were singled out for total elimination. Even though the
Germans did not want a few groups in their way, they did not want to kill them off. The ideal of
reducing inferior Polish and Russian populations to create space for a stretched out German Reich
would not be realized, but the elimination of as many Jews as possible from the world stage stayed
Germany s all time major concern, to which resources sustained to be directed even as the war was
being lost. Nor were the Jews given a opportunity to change or correct their customs. The Nazis did
not want the Jews to inner mix with Germans so they created a law. At no point in time, for any reason
was a Jew allowed to break these laws, or they would be torture, maybe even murdered. According to
the Commentaries to the German Racial Laws of 1936, The Blood Protection Law deals with the
segregation of Jewish and German blood from the biological point of view... As an acute danger

Natural Gas And Its Effects On The United States
Under the Surface Hydraulic fracturing, or hydro fracking, is a sizeable issue for many. The process
includes pumping the fracking fluid, which is a mixture of water, sand, and chemicals deep below the
surface to fracture the rock and free the natural gas. People are either in favor or against hydro
fracking. There is no in between. While it is highly controversial regarding the safety of
hydrofracking, some argue it s unsafe because it contaminates the ground water, facts show otherwise.
Many tests have been completed and studies have shown in a majority of the cases, that it is safe.
However, it questions the overall safety if not all tests were proven successful. It is the social
responsibility of the community to modify hydrofracking policies in order for the complete agreement
of society s benefit from it. Hydrofracking should be allowed to take place in the United States despite
the environmental concerns. Natural gas is more beneficial to society than oil and coal because it is
better for the atmosphere, and the domestic economy within the United States. Fracking is a viable
energy windfall that is drilled using safe technology. [Hydro fracking] is a technique used to form
wells into deep rock formations to get natural gas, petroleum, and brine (Hyder). This process began

The Environment And Sustainable Development Essay
Living sustainably isn t always easy. It seems that every aspect of life can be looked at from a
sustainable perspective, and when trying to reduce your ecological footprint this can be very
overwhelming. Previously, I believed that our values must be redefined to live sustainably, However,
this series of lecture reflections made me realize that instead of changing our values to live
sustainably, we must apply our current values in a sustainable way! Elizabeth Mrema is an
environmental activist who uses her passion of law to help sustain the environment. Sharon Clark is a
principle at the office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development
(CESD), and uses her background in political science to examine the government s impact on the
environment. Finally, graduates of Dalhousie s Sustainability program explain where their degree in
sustainability has taken them. Through the stories of people who have applied sustainability to things
they are passionate about, I have realized that we do not have to change our values to be sustainable.
Sustainable living can be achieved when we combine our passions with sustainability. Elizabeth
Mrema is passionate about law, and has an expertise in environmental law. She explains how
environmental law has developed, and how governments must change the way they protect the
environment. The government s role in protecting the environment became apparent in the 1930 s

Reaction Paper On Happiness And Happiness
INCOME AND HAPPINESS
The idea of happiness and what makes one happier, is drawing a great deal of scholarly attentions.
Happiness can also be determined by how satisfied one feels in his/her life. Graham, Zhou, and Zhang
(2017), observed that, using data from the Chinese Livelihood survey, mental health hugely affects
happiness, whereas physical health significantly impacts mental health (p.242). Demir (2010) found
that the quality of mother and best friend relationships were the predictors of happiness among
emerging adults without romantic partners, while the quality of romantic relationship and mother
appeared to be the predictors of happiness among those involved in romantic relationship (p.310).
Happiness is also associated with faith and religion, however, Edling, Rydgren, and Bohman (2014)
found no positive affect of religion on happiness, instead, membership in non religious, social
organization, and clubs emerged to be the factors that drive happiness in a country like Sweden with
low aggregate level of religiosity (p.621). Similarly, decent number of researchers associated
happiness with wealth and income. Easterlin (2001) argues that there is positive relationship between
happiness and income over the short run, however, the level of happiness remains constant among
cohorts over the long run due to the equivalent increase in their material aspiration (p.465 681). In this
paper, I will be reviewing Easterlin s

Application of the Testamentary Promises Act
Blanchard J clearly sets out, in Bryne v Bishop, the practical application of the relevant law, being
section 3 of the Testamentary Promises Act. Blanchard J sets out what qualifies work , services and
promise as described by the act, the recipient of the promise, the nexus between the services ad the
promise, and the role of the courts. The first issue is determining what qualifies the term services or
work under the act. The courts have been clear that to satisfy the term of services or work the acts
must be more than that of normal expectations of family life or social interaction. It may however be
satisfactory for acts to have a compassionate or affectionate nature in certain circumstances. Although
the parameters have not been specifically outlined, the courts have been clear that service can not be
satisfied if the facts show that of young people simply sharing the pleasures of each other s company
in a common household. The next issue which Blanchard J addresses is the term promise. It as been
declared that the term, for the purposes of the act, may be interpreted outside of the dictionary
meaning of the word. The term promise as defined in section 2 of the Act includes any statement or

Biological Model Of Addiction
Biological Model:
According to the biological theory, chemical dependency has a biological onset that stems primarily
from a person s physiological or genetic characteristics. People differ in the degree to which they like
or dislike a particular addictive substance or activity. The ability to temper impulsive desires with
rational thought is a brain function that varies among different people.
Dr. Alan Leshner, PhD, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, While every type of drug of
abuse has its own individual trigger for affecting or transforming the brain, many of the results of the
transformation are strikingly similar regardless of the addictive drug used.

In 1952, E.M. Jellinek s research describes the four stages of alcoholism as, The Pre alcoholic phase in
which the drinker can no longer drink socially but uses alcohol to relieve social tension. The
Prodromal phase, the drinker begins to experience negative consequences. In the Crucial phase,
individuals develop physical dependence when serious withdrawal symptoms occur when drinking
stops. And the last one is, Chronic phase, in which an individual becomes lost in alcoholic lifestyle
and experience different symptoms. The disease model holds that addiction is a biological,
psychological, and spiritual disease that is incurable and the only way to arrest the disease process is
to abstain from alcohol and other drugs.
Biopsychosocial Model:
The use of the Biopsychosocial model is an attempt to develop a better understanding of addiction

using a multidimensional lens, it uses a three dimensional approach as well. Systems and Ecological

Ever since the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, Thomas Jefferson longed to know what lay in the West.
Now that the land belonged to the Americans, sold to them from the French, they were free to explore

unknown territory on an adventure called the Journey of Discovery. This journey was set up so that
Jefferson could collect as much information of the unknown as possible, including plants, animals,

someday the American colonies would spread all the way out to the Pacific Ocean. Lewis and Clark

documenting their journey, this required the two to record their days in the form of journal entries,
some of which author Stephen Ambrose refers back to often. These journals were critical to the
mission, mostly because all that they learned about and discovered lay among those pages. As Lewis
and Clark recorded meeting with various Indian tribes, they eventually met a man named Toussaint

Freud associates the symptom to a will conflict. He defines it as a perversion of the will

Freud explains the hysteria through the repression mechanism with a comparative study.

Secondly, I believe The theory of unconsciously repressing the memory of
traumatic experiences is controversial. There is little scientific evidence to support either
the notion that traumatic experiences are typically unconsciously repressed or that
unconscious memories of traumatic events are significant causal factors in physical or
mental illness. Most people do not forget traumatic experiences unless they are rendered
unconscious at the time of the experience. Freud says in the form of resistance, were

When repression is defined narrowly as intentional suppression of an experience, there is
little reason to doubt that it exists. But when we talk about a repression mechanism that
operates unconsciously and defensively to block out traumatic experiences, the picture
becomes considerably obscure.

The Characteristics Of A Hero Journey In The Epic Of...
It it no surprise that the hero story is present in a variety of the arts ranging from the earliest surviving
work of literature, to children s books, to modern day motion picture masterpieces. The characteristics
of a hero have withstood the test of time, and remained remarkably similar. Traits of a modern day
hero can be traced back to The Epic of Gilgamesh which dates back to two thousand BC. This reflects
the power of a hero and its message that it portrays to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. The
ability to capture the attention and resonate with a universal crowd is unique to a hero. That being

Akin to Gilgamesh, Luke Skywalker experiences a turning point moment when he destroys the Death
Star. It allows him to understand the power and importance of seeking adventure. For Gilgamesh and
Luke Skywalker, they reach their destiny through adventure, adventure that they brought upon
themselves.
Even though it takes personal motivation to execute heroic acts, ultimately a hero s destiny is
predetermined. A hero is born to carry out greatness and fulfill their duty of heroism. Heroes possess a
sixth sense that allows them to see beyond the normal range; they can feel what must be done. Their
ambition and strong mental control from within allow them to follow this sixth sense. Beginning with
The Epic of Gilgamesh, it is evident that Gilgamesh was born to do more than the rest of the people in
his town: Gilgamesh is a fate alive...who knew secrets and saw forbidden places (Tablet I lines 28 and

one scene, Luke is shown looking out over the horizon and it is clear that the future is speaking to him
that sixth sense. The vastness of the horizon in front of him represents the boundless adventure that
awaits him. A hero knows more than everyone else, thus a hero can achieve more. As Obi Wan Kenobi

The Scene Opens On A Watering Hole
The scene opens on a watering hole in the late Cretaceous period. There are herbivores grazing on the
plants, and the drinking the water. Suddenly loud footsteps can be heard. The Tyrannosaurus rex, the
king of the dinosaurs, is coming over the hill, and the sounds of his footsteps make all the other
dinosaurs scatter. Despite not being the biggest dinosaur, the Tyrannosaurus rex is undisputedly the
fiercest, and through the discovery of many fossils, Hollywood and scientists have made this carnivore
the most famous of all the dinosaurs. Even the name Tyrannosaurus rex shows this dinosaur s
dominance; Tyrannosaurus is Greek for tyrant lizard, and rex is Latin for king. So the Tyrannosaurus
rex is literally the King of the Tyrant Lizards (Smithsonian). There is a lot to learn about the
Tyrannosaurus rex. This paper will discuss many things about this dinosaur, including where and
when were its earliest discoveries, what is believed the Tyrannosaurus rex looked like, and what its
dietary habits were. It will also be addressing when the Tyrannosaurus rex was alive, where it lived
when it was alive, some of the most famous specimens found, where one can visit these famous
specimens, and why it is beneficial for scientists to learn about the Tyrannosaurus rex. Arthur Lakes

Comparing The Book The Hero With A Thousand Faces
The epic poem Beowulf, the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, and many other literature works
all have references from the Anglo Saxon period. The Anglo Saxons had a very interesting way of
interpreting their way of life into great stories. Some of those interpretations are as follows: true
calling vs honor and glory, the symbolization of monsters, and the struggle of life. These
interpretations will show how the Anglo Saxon period and the epic poem relate together.
Stories and poems from the Anglo Saxons period have a hero with a true calling. The hero in story
will usually have some kind of a quest they need to complete to fulfill their assumed role. From a

  • 2. Presentation Of A Super Bowl Viewing Party Introduction: This fall our class collaborated with Big Brother Big Sister of the Ocean State. Their issue that they brought to Bryant is that they were in desperate need of more male Bigs to satisfy the huge number of boy Littles without a Big. The Experience: By no means did this project move smoothly from start to finish. During my brief time, here at Bryant University I have worked and lead in various group projects, this group was by far the most efficient and well rounded group I have been apart of. However, we did not even come close to our potential. With the in class, presentation from Big Brother Big Sister of the Ocean State came my first idea for a way to attract male Bigs. After about twenty minutes of comparing schedules, we finally found a time, in which we could set our weekly meeting (Wednesdays at 7:00 P.M.). On several occasions when we had to meet outside this time, we would have to miss a team member during the meeting due to the major scheduling issue we faced all semester. As a team, we faced another issue; one group member seems to be negligent to the team and fails to complete quality/timely work as well as a non active group member during meetings. Being the group leader, I feel personally responsible for the lack of motivation this group member has so in order to try to resurrect their motivation I attempted to talk individually with the person and send individual reminders numerous times before deadlines and lend a helping hand if needed. Unfortunately, my attempts can be considered a failure due to the regression in this person s work as well as mental/physical attendance during meeting hours. Going off my group leader blunders also throughout the Service Learning Project I failed to implement the Dashboard and Gantt Chart into my team s daily life. Without these management maintenance and planning tools our team seemed to be semi chaotic and unorganized at times, which lead to minor quality of work issues ultimately taking away from our outcomes as a team. • 3. The Novel Fifth Business In the novel Fifth Business, women played an important role that impacted Dunstan emotionally and spiritually. From a young age, Dunstan s mother, Mrs. Ramsay, placed fear and isolation in his heart and was the reason he became emotionally distanced from women. He turned towards Mrs. Dempster as she provided him the love and affection that he wasn t able to receive from his mother. She also sparked his interest in hagiography and to pursue his study in inner spirituality. As he comes of age and meets Diana, she was able to introduce him to a new world while teaching him new experiences. However, their relationship was short lived due to the treatment and mental damage he received from his mother when he was younger. While women like Mrs. Ramsay affected Dunstan negatively, others such as Diana and Mrs. Dempster were able to heal him and provide a greater growth for Dunstan spiritually and emotionally. Dunstan first got involved with Mrs. Dempster during the snowball incident where the snowball aimed at him by the town bully instead hits the pregnant Mary Dempster, precipitating the premature birth of her son and her descent into mental illness. (Bowers). Dunstan believed that by moving out of the snowball s path, that he broke apart Mary Dempster s life and so he carries this guilt for the rest of his life. Pieter Claesz Still Life Essay At first glance, Pieter Claesz s oil on wood panel composition appears to be an elegant table scene that leaves the viewer with a desire for lightly salted crab served with a squeeze of lemon, a crusty roll and a quaff of Rhenish wine. To an extent, this painting is indeed a feast for the senses and a contemplation of fine food, temptingly presented amongst handsome dinnerware. Yet, by looking deeper into this beautifully rendered still life, it becomes apparent that a greater moral and religious message sits within this celebration of Dutch life and craftsmanship in the Seventeenth century. There are moral undertones at play with the roemer of wine and its surrounding trimmings too. The luxuries of the world are only temporary and not eternal. During the 20th century, arranged marriages were very common among families. In non western countries many of the cultures say that love is not a requirement for marriage (Epstein). First comes marriage, then comes love. That is the normal in their cultures. Arranged marriages are usually put together by the parents or close family of the son or daughter. Since it is put together by the parents, then the parents gain more trust in their child due to their decision (Shanmukh). His father s silence was infinitely more menacing than a flood of threatening speech (Achebe 191). This kind of behavior was against their tribe s belief and Okeke referred to it as Satan s work. Love marriages just did not work for them. The story eventually got to the little village in the heart of the Ibo country that Nnaemeka and his young wife were a most happy couple (Achebe 193). The son who went against his tribe s beliefs and fell in love before marriage without it being arranged, was happy with his wife. • 13. Michael Henchard Foil According to the Online Dictionary for Literary Devices, The etymology of the term foil testifies the aforementioned assertion as the word foil is taken from the practice of backing gems with foil (tool) so that they shine more brightly. Throughout The Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy sets up multiple pairs of characters as foils to contrast them and express his opinion of what attributes a person should have. Michael Henchard, who cares more for personal gain, is a foil to Richard Newson, who cares for his wife and daughter. Elizabeth Jane Newson outshines Lucetta Templeman with her belief that a person s character is more valuable than outward appearance; in a similar sense, Donald Farfrae surpasses Henchard in character and shows ... However, Henchard s plan fails because, A number of people had heroically gathered in the field, but by three o clock Henchard discerned that his project was doomed to end in failure... But where are the folk? said Henchard, after the lapse of half an hour, during which time only two men and a woman had stood up to dance. The shops are all shut. Why don t they come? They are at Farfrae s affair in the West Walk (103 104). This event is the first major conflict that occurs between Henchard and Farfrae, and this starts to develop the characters as foils. While Henchard hosts an event in the rain, Farfrae hosts an event indoors that is popular; this shows Hardy s belief that intelligence is a positive trait to have. Hardy shows that Farfrae uses logic and gains favor in the town while Henchard does not and starts to become unpopular. Also defining Henchard and Farfrae as foils, Farfrae shows self control and understands how to control his anger. After Henchard embarrasses himself in front of Royalty, Farfrae meets him and chastises him by saying, You insulted Royalty, Henchard; and twas my duty, as the chief magistrate, to stop you. Royalty be damned, said Henchard. I am as loyal to you, come to that! I am not here to argue. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Historical Book Justice Throughout much of the historical writings of the Bible, ranging from the book of Joshua to the book of Esther, the central narrations depict the formation of kingship that leads Israel. This can be further broken into three sections. First being the Theocracy, covering the period when Israel was ruled by God. Second, is the Monarchy which traces Israel Kings from the good to the bad leading to the nation s destruction. Third, is the restoration describing Israel s remnant after the seventy years of captivity. For the sake of limitation, an example from each section will be analyzed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As noted in previous sections, the state of the world was far from shalom and God was on a mission to restore this. However, it also seemed Israel was not going to be the source of redemption as they only held the desire to be like the nations, lacking a manner of justice. Yet, in this last category one can note of the beginning process of restoration until the time of Jesus. In this section, there is one important verse to pay attention to. In Ezra 10:14 the idea of justice is reinstated but not in a way that is simply justice put into action, but in the intent to regather the people of God; to bring all back into a community of love. This is one step closer to restoring shalom. The verse prior to this example is key in understanding this (Ez. 10:9 14). Characters And Evil In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies In the beginning of William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies , readers meet four young boys from ages 11 13 who have been stranded on a deserted island with no adults after a flight from home. Readers come to understand the relationship between Ralph, Jack, Simon and Piggy get complicated and violent once all laws and rules have disappeared by the end of the novel, 2 boys are dead and the have changed dramatically. In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech for the novel, Golding stated that, ... men produce evil as bees produce honey. His statement is that Golding believes that human nature is automatically evil; he is right. Golding s view is that evil exists in all humans from birth; he is right. In the lord of the flies the author shows this clearly. They re all dead, said Piggy, an this is an island. Nobody don t know we re here. When he says, they re all dead, he is referring to the people who were in the airplane with them before they ended up in the island. When Golding writes that Piggy s lips quivered, this shows us that piggy is afraid. Diction and contrasting imagery are really important because they are what readers react and connect to. The Flowers , a short story by Alice Walker, is a great example of diction at play. This short story uses contrasting imagery and diction to develop and show meaning in the work. The diction and contrasting imagery also conveys meaning to the text by showing a shift in the theme of the work. In the beginning of the short story, diction and imagery played their role in conveying Myop to be and innocent, young, and happy girl. Towards the middle, Myop was hinted to having an altering innocence. Finally, the diction and contrasting imagery shatters Myop s life because it portrays a loss of childhood innocence. Seeing the dead man changed the way she saw life. Instead of grazing fields and golden surprises, she now saw an empty man with large, broken, white teeth, rotted clothes, and his head spinning restlessly in the breeze. The word choice and imagery chosen to describe this scene conveyed meaning to The Flowers because it revealed that Myop s character was now experiencing a loss of innocence and that the happy and pleasant moments were completely gone. The description and imagery used to describe the guy illustrates a horrific scene in the readers mind and conveys that the story had just experienced a plot twist from peaceful times to depressing and somber moments. Or it called be true When we were children or maybe even toddlers, how did the idea of being afraid of the dark slip into our minds? being afraid of monsters? maybe it s because supernatural creatures do exist? maybe it s some sort of sign from the universe? Shakespeare uses supernatural events in his stories and plays to make his stories more believable and fascinating because superstition held relentless sway over the popular mind and many people enjoys reading and learning about supernatural and crime more then other movie or book generals . • 19. Anti-Semitic German Propaganda During World War II, anti Semitic publications circulating throughout Germany display clear evidence of pervading the minds of young German children. Julius Steicher, editor of Der Stumer and the agent responsible for many of the anti Semitic publications (Mills), helped dramatically initiate the German resistance toward Jews early on in a child s life. It is important to understand the severity of anti Semitism taught to the future Nazi generation in order to maintain the National Socialist state and further it s agenda. By examining the ideas, and publications aimed towards children that express those ideals, it is clear that the National Socialist state wanted to indoctrinate a hateful, militant agenda into young children. Ultimately, the final result was to maintain the prejudice view that the Jewish people were the inferior race, and therefore the enemy for future generations. One of the chief ways to target young German children with Nazi propaganda was through the school systems. A German educator wrote in The National Socialist Essence of Education, that mathematics was Aryan spiritual property, an expression of the Nordic fighting spirit, of the Nordic struggle for the supremacy in the world (Hirsch, 119). Children were given slogans to learn and recite such as: Judas the Jew betrayed Jesus the German to the Jews (Mann, 90). Happiness can also be determined by how satisfied one feels in his/her life. Similarly, decent number of researchers associated happiness with wealth and income.
