Modern statistical techniques have identified five key factors that describe personality: Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. Together, these "Big Five" traits provide a quantitative approach to personality that has become very influential in psychology. The degree to which each trait applies to an individual can be measured.
