- 1. TEFL November 2009 Chiang Mai University
- 2. All I wanted to do was learn to teach English……
- 3. At first, the teachers seemed friendly enough…..
- 4. … and then the homework began.
- 5. Hours of planning, discussing, and making materials.
- 6. Week in, week out the madness continues…….
- 8. and continues. (Pres perfect-continuous action into the future until eternity and beyond!!)
- 9. Then came the practical portion..
- 10. … with last minute changes…
- 11. … rehearsals with classmates…
- 12. … awaiting our fate in the “bullpen.”
- 16. “ We who are about to die, salute you.”
- 17. “ Hey do you think they have any idea what’s about to happen to them?”
- 19. Next came the schools….sure they look cute but watch out, you’re entering the “ teacher zone.”
- 22. A place of sights and sounds, dogs wandering into class, squirrels exploding transformers, and lighters in the classroom.
- 23. Although we were not allowed to carry bamboo canes and bullhorns, there were no known casualties.
- 24. Amazingly, some learning did occur…… … for all of us.
- 28. Third week psychosis begins…
- 29. “ I have to do WHAT??”
- 30. … two days of teaching, writing a lesson plan, test review, and then...
- 31. SUCCESS!!!! The entire class passes the written test on the first try!
- 32. A celebration was had by all with beverages, singing, and music.
- 33. After that, it was smoother sailing.
- 34. Nov 27 th Thursday Thanksgiving Day Holiday in America and the last day of school and the last teaching practice…
- 35. … boy, are we thankful to be done!
- 36. From nations all over the world…
- 37. … we came, some by modest transportation…
- 38. … from all walks of life…. Architect Sales EMT Chiropractor Musician Personal Trainer IT Trainer Teacher Business Exec Casino Dealer College Grad Business Owner Carpenter Merchant Seaman MBA
- 39. … with one common goal, to learn to be ESL teachers
- 45. And hopefully we will all help to change someone’s life, through the knowledge of language.
