4. Possible contingencies
Students have not been exposed to the English language before this year so the teacher will
scaffold students by miming, pointing out to pictures and repeating as many times as needed.
Procedures
5 minutes
I will greet students: “Good morning to everybody! How are you today?” Once students have
answered. The school protocol has changed as established by the province authorities, now there is
no need to sanitize the students’ desks.
5 minutes
Taking into account that students loved the video with which we worked last class, I have decided to
use a similar one for this lesson. I am going to show students a video about Simon’s cat and a spider
(they have already learnt the term “spider” in a previous lesson): “Remember Simon’s cat? We have
worked with it last class. Let’s watch this video” I will stop the video and ask students: “where is the
spider?” They are supposed to answer using the prepositions learnt: “It is next to Simon/ it’s on the
book, etc.”
Transition comment: Well done!
- 10 minutes
To continue with the lesson, I will show a 360° picture in which they will be able to see the different
pets we have worked with. I will ask students to pay attention to where the pets are: Here we will see
a classroom, very similar to ours, pay attention to the pets, what are they like, where are they”. Then
I will turn off the computer and ask them: “Do you remember where the rabbit is? What is it like?”
Transition comment: Excellent! Now we are going to practice more!
5. Activity 1: 25 minutes
To continue with the lesson, I will ask students to gather in four groups (two groups of four and two
of three students: “To work on the following lesson you will have to form groups. We will need four
groups”. Once they have organized themselves: “Great! Now, here I have four QR codes, each
group will decide which one to use. Scan the QR and you will see that there is a picture there. Do
not show your picture to the other groups, keep it to yours, it’s a secret image!” Once they have
seen the picture, I will continue: “You will need to share the information necessary for the rest of the
class to know where each pet in your picture is”. They will be asked to write sentences to share the
information with their mates: “Be ready to write down the sentences so that you can read them to
your mates later”. I will hand in a copy with a classroom in it, students will have to draw the pets as
their mates read their sentences: “Once you have written all the sentences, you will have to read
them aloud and the rest of the class has to pay attention because you will need to draw!”. I will
show them how to do the activity with an example and I will monitor the groups. Once they finish, I
will ask each group to read aloud.
Transition comment: You did a great job! Now, as this is our last class, we are going to continue
revising and working with everything we have learnt during this period in a very funny way!
Activity 2: 30 minutes
Then, I show students that the classroom has been divided into three stations: “Look around the
classroom, is there anything different? Yes! There are three different places in which we will play
three different games!: in the first one we will play Jenga, whenever you take a piece of wood, you
will notice that you will have to do something: order words to make sentences, answer questions, find
something. In the second stage you will find a puzzle, it’s called pentomino, you will see that there is
a piece of a sentence in each part of it, you will have to place the pieces in order so that you can read
the text on it. In the last stage, you have a board game, you will have to take a coloured game piece
and throw the dice and read the question or the activity you have to perform to get to the following
step”. I will monitor the groups. Prior to the explanation, they will be asked to form three groups to go
through the stages. I will play music and they can play until the music stops, so they have to move to
the following stage: “Every time the music stops, you have to move to the following stage and start
playing”. I will monitor the activities and as there are three students who are really good at English, I
will place one of them in each group so that they can help me to monitor the different stages.
5 minutes
To finish with the lesson, I will explain students that this was our last class together, from now on,
they will continue with Miss Pat: “Kids, this is our last time together (at least for this year), I would like
to thank you because you helped me a lot, you helped me to be a better teacher. That is why I will
thank you with a little present, I hope you enjoy it!
Once I have finished handing in the presents, I will say goodbye to them: “You have done a great job
during these last 24 classes. Keep up with the excellent job you are doing! See you!”
