Rock And Roll History
The begins of rock and roll have always been challenged as to when they were first established. The
most common argument is that is first started in Southern United states, the birth place of many of the
first early rock and roll music hits. As the south always had a huge majority of slaves from Africa and
immigrants from Europe, through the gathering of different influences that created a connection
between African musical traditions with European instrumentation. Immigration of once slaves to
populated urban centers including New York City and Chicago meant that both the black and white
communities were living in close proximity, resulting in hearing each other s music and even began to
follow and impersonate each other s fashions .

terms, rock roll indicated that modest, formerly specialized labels like Sun and Specialty were

industrial record labels and old line Tin Pan Alley music publishing

Old Men Comparison
No Country for Old Men Novel and Film comparison.
In this particular essay, that I am doing for the extra credit, I will be comparing the famous novel No
Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, 2005 and the correlating film No Country for Old Men ,
directed by Joel Ethan Coen, 2007. I will discuss the similarities and the differences of the film and
the book, blending the difference of genres and leveling the field, allowing to compare.
Staring off, I would like to mention the fact that a comparison of the book and the film is a difficult
thing to do, as these genres are very different in their nature.
Let s start with the novel: as a lot of Cormac McCarthy s novels this one is a stylized gothic Western ,
its intense and both depressing, emotional and fascinating to read with its vivid imagery and gripping
plot. McCarthy s blood soaked Mexican border, hitmen, gangs, drugs, the rotten aspect of the
government, sociopathic murderers, etc. Lack of punctuation, for me personally, was a lackluster part
of the whole novel. The whole action sequence can be described as chronological, yet, despite the
predictability of some scenes, heavy in its intensity making the thriller natural and the action ... Show

It very much contrasted for me to read No Country for Old Men , for a kid who grew up on romances,
one thing was very apparent there was no mental digging of the main character (except for Bell s
interludes of course, the best part of the book). No insight into Moss s head lead to my inevitable
subtle disinterest to the book. But, back to the point, this was the prime characteristic why the book
movie transition would do so well lack of mental digging, which is very hard to transition into visuals,
or without using inappropriate for this movie narration of Moss s head. Also, the short size of the
movie lands itself perfectly into the movie s

Estella Miss Havisham Quotes
Estella may be beautiful, but she s as chilly as Frozone, freezing the hearts of everyone around her
including her adopted mom, Miss Havisham. She s proud and refined as an adult, and beautiful and
self possessed as a child , and for some reason Pip falls desperately in love with her, even though she s
really, really rude.
But we can t hate Estella, either. Can you imagine living in Satis House with a mother who wears her
wedding dress everyday and who only cares that you grow up to break boys hearts? Can you imagine
having to deal with relatives who only want your mother s money? Can you imagine sleeping in that
run down house every night, hearing Miss Havisham s low moaning and mouse like shuffling all over
the floor boards?

Essay about The Disputed Reign of Dowager Empress Tz’u-hsi
The Disputed Reign of Dowager Empress Tz u hsi Historical record is not always an accurate
representation of fact. An example of this would be the long reign of the Dowager Empress Tz u hsi,
in which there were hundreds of documents written about her life. These documents have been taken
and used in the production of numerous books, especially among Western historians. It was these early
historians who have established the widely accepted perspective that Tz u hsi hungered for power,
abused it, and retained it using any means necessary. This understanding is echoed today by authors
such as W.G. Sebald, author of The Rings of Saturn. There are many differences between the accounts
of the Western perspective and that of Sebald s, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She then had three princes, who had acted as the late emperor s viceroys, charged with treason and
graciously allowed them to commit suicide using a silken rope (147 8). This idea about her craving for
power is reiterated with Sebald s claim of the mysterious deaths of her son and pregnant daughter in
law who seemed healthy until the Emperor becomes old enough to rule without the Empress (148).
Then the Empress had them replaced by an heir who would be easier to control: her two year old
nephew Kuang hsu (148). Sebald described the second emperor, Kaung hsu, as being fascinated by the
mysteries of modern machines (152). Although this may seem like a minute detail, Kaung Hsu s love
of modern machines is a representation of his favor for modernization. It was this interest in
modernization that eventually led to a great disagreement with the Empress (152). Once it was clear
that Tz u hsi would deny the nation of Kaung hsu s ideas of modernization, Kaung hsu attempted to
wrest power to himself and was stopped by the Empress (152). The Empress then imprisoned Kaung
hsu in a moated palace (152). Once the Emperor was confined, the Empress would be able to rule
uncontested for as long as she lived and as long as the Emperor was powerless. To keep the Emperor
powerless, Tz u hsi made sure that he stayed isolated for ten years until the late summer of 1908 when
he started having chronic headaches and backache, renal cramps, hypersensitivity to

Mother Child And Father Child Relationships Essay
Mother Child and Father Child Relationships
Parent Child Relationships, Parental Psychological Control, and Aggression: Maternal and Paternal
Relationships written by Murray, Dwyer, Rubin, Knighton Wisor and Booth LaForce (2013) sought to
understand the role of paternal and maternal parenting in predicting child developmental outcomes.
Specifically, the study focused on the examination of the extent to which quality father to child and
mother to child relationships moderate or lessen the impact of adversities arising from ineffective
parenting practices on adolescent aggression that may follow. Literature Review
Murray et al. (2013) acknowledged the direct correlation between aggression and parent child
relationships. Also, the authors observed that peer influence among the adolescents is on the increase
and that parents play a significant role in shaping the group s aggression outcomes. Therefore, the
central purpose was to foster a completion of measures of youth aggressive behavior, the quality of
parent child associations, and psychological control. In turn, the results were used to understand the
significance of parenting behaviors such as psychological control, monitoring knowledge and parental
support in determining the nature of adolescent aggression, as well as other related problem behaviors
that include delinquency. Overall, Murray et al. (2013) sought to explore the perceived role of the
quality of the relationship between parents and children in

Birth Control And Fertility
Birth Control and Fertility One of the most common misconceptions circling society for years is how
the use of contraceptives (birth control) can affect women s fertility. Birth control is a mixture of
hormones that thicken the cervical mucus to prevent the ovaries from ovulating eggs, as well as
changing the lining of the uterus to make reproduction difficult. For this reason, women use multiple
contraceptive methods to help with hormonal issues, menstrual problems, ovarian disorders, but the
most common use is for the prevention of pregnancy. So how does a medication that prevents one
from getting pregnant not affect fertility, especially for those who utilize it for years? Ever since the
U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved contraceptives in 1960, it has become one of the
most thoroughly tested medications. With a few notable exceptions, immediately after you stop using
birth control, your fertility will go right back to what it was destined to be, says Dr. Paul Blumenthal,
professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins University Medical School. By this he means
that problems conceiving may be attributed to age, disorders, and other factors that can lead to
infertility, but the contraceptive itself does not affect it once you stop utilizing it. In fact, studies show
that birth control improves fertility by helping cure ovarian disorders that lead to infertility, as well as
an infertility treatment to patients that cannot conceive. Contrary to

The Anishinabe Way
During the eighteenth century the fur trade, requiring the natives to seek furs in the hinterland,
changed the Anishinabe way of living. Evidence shows that before the trade, small bands net fished
along the Georgian Bay islands and coast with some winter hunting and ice fishing along the rivers
but not any substantial stays on the inland lakes. After the trade with the Europeans a new Anishinabe
way emerged.
The annual routine, developed over many generations for
Anishinabe, would start with each family requesting, from their local chief perhaps on a visit to Parry
Island, as to which lake area they would use. Although these fall meetings ostensibly were to get
permission, it was largely more of a confirmation of which land the family traditionally worked. It
was like a permanent lease for the concept of ownership was foreign. Once the formality was done,

1600s compelled firstly by the fur trade and later as treaties were signed in the mid to late 1800s. The
fur trade was quite lucrative for them. A large beaver pelt in good condition and from a winter kill

Each Wasauksiwunini was part of a dodem (or the anglicized totem) that was represented and
contained the spirit of an animal, such as the crane, otter, bear, loon etc. Being a member of a
particular dodem meant that there would be an expectation of hospitality on visiting another member.
Also, as members of the dodem were close blood relations, marriage occurred exclusively between
different dodems. Interestingly, all Anishinabe bands were matrilineal whereas all the Haudenosaunee

Analysis of Randall Jarrell s The Death of the Ball...
Many of the great poems we read today were written in times of great distress. One of these writers
was Randall Jarrell. After being born on May 6, 1914, in Nashville Tennessee, Jarrell and his parents
moved to Los Angeles where his dad worked as a photographer. When Mr. and Mrs. Jarrell divorced,
Randall and his younger brother returned to Nashville to live with their mother. While in Nashville,
Randall attended Hume Frogg high school. Randall showed his love for the arts while in high school
by participating in dramatics and journalism. Jarrell continued his career in the arts when he wrote and
edited for Vanderbilt s humor magazine, The Vanderbilt Masquerader. After earning his graduate
degree at Vanderbilt, Jarrell accepted a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Jarrell says the words, hunched in the belly, the reader gets a very uncomfortable feeling. In line
number three the reader gets visual imagery as well as slight tactile imagery. The visual imagery
comes when Jarrell says, Six miles from earth. The reader gets a clear image of something being very
high above the ground. When the author says, loosed from the dream of life, the reader gets a slight
feeling of death or a vision of someone dying. The fourth line, I woke to the black flak and the
nightmare fighters, brings the reader visual, auditory and tactile imagery. The reader can picture
someone waking up to shrapnel, from an exploding bomb, flying by their head. One can hear the
gunfire of the, nightmare fighters, along with the exploding shells. The reader also gets a tactile image
when the author says, I woke up, because everyone knows what it is like to wake up from a sleep. In
the fifth and final line the reader gets a very graphic visual image. The reader can picture someone s
body being so destroyed that instead of removing the body from the turret the soldiers must wash it
out with a hose. Jarrell also used a great deal of figurative language in this poem. The entire poem is
an extended metaphor. This poem compares the struggles of war with the struggles of being born.
More specifically, it compares being killed the belly of a plane and being killed in the womb of a
mother. We see

Forman Framework Of Corus Entertainment
The storytelling strategies exhibited by Corus Entertainment can be analyzed more closely through the
Forman Framework. As a guide for organizations, the primary function of the Forman Framework is
to determine whether storytelling efforts by companies are successful in components such as: building
trust, fluency, and authenticity.
The Forman Framework As mentioned previously, Corus is successful in exhibiting authenticity over
all their communication platforms as their words match their deeds. Moreover, their vision, story, and
micronarratives consist of both tacit and explicit knowledge that can be verified by employees and
partners. Thus, Corus does not advertise false information or follow a persona of more talk, less action

Research Paper On Gallium
The discovery of such an element as gallium does not come as just any accidental discovery. Gallium
or Ga, atomic number 31 was in a long research process for fifteen years by Lecoq de Boisbaudran.
He had been meticulously studying the spectra of several chemical elements, Lecoq knew that each
and every element produces its very own and distinct pattern of lines when heated, or spectra. As
Lecoq de Boisbaudran continued his drive to learn more of the distinct element spectra, he
distinguished that the element on the periodic table between indium and aluminum was yet to be
discovered. Lecoq de Boisbaudran theorized that with gallium supposedly having an atomic number
of 31, it could be that gallium is contained within zinc, atomic number thirty. ... Show more content on

Water Fluoridation Must Stop Essay
Fluoride compounds have been added to water supplies since as early as the 1950s because claims
were made to support fluoride s use as a cavity preventer. However, studies conducted even decades
before have shown that fluoride is an extremely hazardous substance that should be completely
avoided. These views or claims about fluoride are just too contradictory, both cannot be true. Fluoride
has hidden dangers that not enough people know about and should be removed from the water
supplies despite false reports that it is actually beneficial, and the practice of water fluoridation should
be completely eliminated.
First a little bit about fluoride needs to be known. These are the unarguable facts about fluoride.

Naturally fluoridated areas preceded the field trials since fluoride occurs naturally in some areas.
(Oral) Communities with naturally occurring fluoride in water supplies were chosen for the trials,
because results could be seen in these communities without so many years of testing. The studies
showed that fluoride reduces dental caries to some extent depending on the amount of ingestion.
These positive results lead to water fluoridation becoming a popular practice throughout civilized
areas of the world. Putting a substance like fluoride in municipal water supplies is a good way to
medicate many people at a time, since everybody drinking from the water supply would have a
constant intake of fluoride. The big advantage of water fluoridation is that it benefits all residents in a
community regardless of age, socio economic status, education or employment. (Kirshen)
The number one purpose for water fluoridation is for the promotion of healthy and strong teeth. As it
turns out fluoride doesn t even help with teeth, in fact it causes many problems with their formation.
According to Dean Murphy DDS in his book The Devil s Poison: Fluorotic enamel is more porous and
structurally weaker having a wear resistance that is commonly 40% to 60% of normal. (Murphy 57)
This is because fluoride interferes with collagen producing enzymes leaving a faulty matrix for
minerals to accumulate and crystallize. (Murphy 57) All pro fluoride advocates claim

Magnesium is an extremely important and valuable mineral, whose value for great health and
wellbeing is just now being recognized by conventional physicians.
Nearly, every function in the body requires magnesium for virtually all cellular functions. There is

Bruce Dawe Research Essay
Examine how satire is used in the poetry of Bruce Dawe to criticise aspects of the society in which he

In the words of the Shorter Oxford Dictionary, satire is a poem, or a piece of prose composition, in
which prevailing vices or follies are held up to ridicule or a thing fact or circumstance that has the
effect of making some person or thing ridiculous. Dawe employs a humourous tone enlivened by a

Only one persona speaks, considered potentially as a first year university Arts student. His superior
tone and crude language mock the Chinese in the film and his own family. Yet, the narrator s
responses are not parallel to that of Dawe and instilling this third voice encourages an alternative point
of view to the reader. This tone and character construction are established in the beginning; Chinese
peasant families famishing in comfort. The word famishing is considered relatively pretentious to
insinuate that the narrator is equipped with some form of education, contrary to that of the family he is
talking about. The narrator s relaxed humour is shown when he compares the television size to the size
of the Chinese families; 25 inch Chinese peasant families famishing in comfort on the 25 inch screen.
His willingness to display such wit towards a dire situation suggests his inconsideration towards the
Chinese and furthermore, asserts his superiority on them. Dawe uses this tone to make a comment on
the insensitivity of society and bring light to this overconsumption and under reaction. In this way, the
reader is encouraged to become more aware of the lack of apathy that can occur through an overly

Essay On The Shadow Of The Air

before she burnt her eyes out. Who are these NASA guys anyway? Pretty sure everything they do is

It s getting close now
In one second the world is bright and clear, the 90 degree daytime, and the next it was dusk. At this
point in the eclipse you could safely look at the sun with the naked eye. The colors of a sunset were
visible for 360 degrees with no trees or buildings to obstruct the view. The sun was completely black
with a gorgeous corona of wispy white tendrils. It looked strange, dangerous and miraculous. The real
world was gone. For 1 minute and 47 seconds the landscape was like nothing I have ever seen before,
or will ever see again. It was the 69 degrees of dusk.
The moment the shadow had moved enough to let in the smallest amount of daylight, the moment
ended. It was obvious why everyone made the trek. The sun being even 99% eclipsed is not the same
experience; it has to be in totality. Once I realized this, and realized how justified we all were, my
perspective on the crowds and the traffic changed completely.
I was all excited and breathless as we quickly

The Court System Of England And Wales
The court system in England and Wales means a thousand years of history and development
throughout different political and social climates. This essay will provide a brief history of this
evolution and evaluation of some advantages and disadvantages of a modern jury system.
According to The Open University (2014, section 10.1), under Anglo Saxon domination all disputes
were resolved in local courts called moots . These courts later developed and became Magistrates
Courts, still keeping their local function. Majority of all criminal cases are heard there, however the
courts can only decide on summary or triable either way offences, referring the most serious files to
the Crown Court.
Crown courts, which superseded the courts of assize and quarter sessions, were established under the
Courts Act 1971 to improve efficiency of the existing criminal justice system. The latter were local
courts of the Queen s Bench Division, which served a number of circuits by assembling juries and
hearing cases not serious enough to go before a High Court judge.
The Norman Conquest made significant changes to the English law by establishing the Curia Regis ,
the court which was ruled by the king and his appointed judges. Some key institutions of Parliament,
such as the common law courts including King s (Queen s) Bench, Common Pleas, Exchequer, and
the Court of Chancery evolved from the Curia Regis . The law became to be more centralised through
a unified court system to a national

Arguments Against Egalitarianism
In this essay, I will explain the view of prioritarianism as an alternative to egalitarianism, as it avoids
the main problem facing egalitarianism. Albeit that prioritarianism withstands this problem, it brings
with it more problems than it solves, so I will then refute prioritarianism and suggest we instead move
to sufficientarianism. In Derek Parfit s Equality and Priority (1997) he introduces the idea of
prioritarianism as an alternative to egalitarianism, this is to avoid the levelling down objection that
egalitarianism faces. Egalitarianism claims that there is intrinsic moral value in some sort of equality,
be it justice, opportunity, resources etc. (Arneson, 2013). The levelling down objection claims that
there can be a case where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prioritarianism claims that people who are worse off should be given moral priority over those who
are better off (Parfit, 1997, p. 213). If we imagine a society where there are rich people and very rich
people, and another society where there are very poor people and poor people, and getting people
from very poor to poor gives the same increase in utility as going from rich to very rich. Then,
according to egalitarianism, getting people from rich to very rich would be just as good as getting
people from very poor to poor. Prioritarianism, however, claims that getting people from very poor to
poor matters more because they are worse off, even though the total increase in utility would be the
same as getting the rich people to very rich. The prioritarian claim is not one of aiming to reduce
equality, as if there was just one person in the world who is worse off, and no one else exists, we
would be just be obliged to give him just as much benefit as we would a world where there are also
other people who were better off. Benefiting those who are worse off is not relative to those who are
better off, it is an absolute (Parfit, 1997). Prioritarianism avoids the levelling down objection because
if we imagine the case where there are very rich people and very poor people, as we are not aiming for
equality, making the very rich very poor would bring no good. A prioritarian would only be motivated
to benefit the very poor as they re the ones who are worse off (Parfit, 1997). This is more in line with
moral intuitions, making prioritarianism a more attractive view than

The Theme Of Memories In Toni Morrison s Beloved
In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, memories are seen as powerful instruments which haunt the
characters throughout the narrative. During the institution of slavery, slaves were dehumanised and
treated subordinately. This novel asserts the fact that slaves were actually human beings, by exploring
the ways that they had to endure the disturbing and traumatic memories of it, and still find ways to
live. In the article Four Hundred Years of Silence: Myth, History and Motherhood in Toni Morrison s
Beloved , Sally Keenan explores the need to remember and to tell and the desire to forget, memories
with an inexhaustible and monstrous power to erupt and overwhelm the mind but which must
somehow be laid aside if life is to continue (48). By this Keenan means that the novel accentuates the
difficulty that the characters face in order to forget their painful memories, which at the same time
cannot be disremembered. The urge to forget is complicated as it becomes laden with the feelings of
pain, guilt, shame and fear, which eventually leads to an assumption that the traumatic memories

reason for this is because although Beloved is Sethe s memory of her horrifying experience, she also

Krishna Pauroti Essay
For anybody living in Kathmandu in the 50s, Krishna Pauroti was synonymous with pauroti (bread).
Set up in 1949, when the now pervasive white bread was an oddity, the pastry kitchen is an
establishment, with three eras of Rajkarnikars keeping its legacy well and alive, even today.
Established by Krishna Bahadur Rajkarnikar, the pastry kitchen acquainted Nepalis with bread when
there was none, and its story runs parallely with the historical backdrop of majority rules system in the
nation.
The Rajkarnikar family has dependably been included in cooking. Haluwa, jalebi and swari were their
claim to fame; even Janga Bahadur Rana knew this.
Gajraj was the first of the Rajkarnikars who worked for the Ranas amid the one family run the show.

As An Upper Level High School Mathematics Teacher, My...
As an upper level high school mathematics teacher, my students are assigned to classes based on skill
level rather than grade level, but the due to the nature of the material, most students are juniors and
seniors. Tasha, the student constantly demanding my attention to ask if she is doing the work correctly,
is almost certainly one of these upperclassmen as the rare underclassman who is in an advanced math
class generally has more confidence in her abilities if only because placement in such a class implies
that the school believes that she is highly capable. While not offensive or intentionally disruptive,
Tasha s behavior does impact the classroom environment negatively. Every minute that she demands

As a result, I am forced to spend more time refocusing students and dealing with inappropriate
behavior which cuts down on the amount of instructional time in my classroom. While Tasha s
motivation for monopolizing my time is almost certainly not to deprive other students of having their
questions answered or to keep me from maintaining order in the classroom, these are the inevitable
consequences of her behavior if it continues. By allowing her to continue this pattern, I am also doing
her no favors as she is not learning to be a self directed learner or taking ownership of her own
learning and work if I am constantly at her beck and call to confirm that she is doing just fine. Tasha s
behavior appears to be rooted in a lack of confidence in her own abilities, and she is exhibiting some
signs of learned helplessness. It is unlikely that any particular incident in my class caused Tasha to be
so insecure as low self confidence and learned helplessness develop over time, but certain situations in
class are more likely to trigger her need for confirmation that she is doing her work correctly. She is
most likely to demand my attention when I have shifted the class into individual work time as opposed
to group instruction or discussion. Tasha s insecurities become more pronounced when she is left to
work on an assignment without step by step guidance from me. If she sees other students getting to

Essay east asian crisis
East Asian financial crisis are an evidence of fact that economies are prone to fianacial pressures in
spite of a stable sustainable growth rate. The East Asian economic crisis is the most important
economic event in the region of the past few decades. That much is agreed. Beyond this, there is yet
no unanimity about its root causes nor about the solutions. The differences of views are being debated
in academic and policy circles and reflected in the media. One thing though is certain: the earlier
optimistic expectation that it would last only some months has proved wrong. Instead the financial

the countries had been praised (indeed, over praised) for having strong linkages between the public
and private sectors. Today, that is totally condemned as the fatal flaw of crony capitalism. As an
alternative to mainly blaming the countries, there rapidly developed another view of how the crisis
emerged and spread. This view put the blame on the developments of the global financial system, with
the combination of the following features:
Financial deregulation and liberalisation across the world (as the legal basis);
The increasing interconnection of markets and speed of transactions through computer technology (as
the technological basis); and
The development of large institutional financial players (such as the speculative hedge funds, the
investment banks, and the huge mutual and pension funds).
This combination has led to the rapid shifting of large blocks of short term capital flowing across

The Growing Concerns On Privacy
The growing concerns on privacy are rapidly changing. Though a new worry in the online world, these
troubles with privacy violations have existed far before the Internet was even invented. It used to be
abnormal to hand out personal information, like an address or birthdate; however, now these are the
blanks that users fill out on almost every social media site they join. The information that is gladly
given away, used to be protected for fear of identity theft. So what has dramatically changed in order
to change these morals? Some believe that the invention of the Internet has caused people to believe
that they are safe behind the screen. They place false hope and trust in social media, so the question is
where these accusations are originating from. Have these privacy disgruntlements been thrown away
over the hopes of achieving some sort of online popularity persona? Or is the generation stuck inside a
online labyrinth that entices sharing rather than secrets? [AP] Privacy has become a very skewed
concept in the eyes of the Facebook community. Individuals take what they would normally consider
private information, and display within the profile outline for Facebook. What is considered sensitive
information and private personal stories, people share and repost to their walls. Facebook uses what
the federal law considers so private [that it can t] be just in job interviews; such as age, sex, birthplace,
religion. (Grimmelmann, The Privacy Virus) So why is this

Whitman and Neruda as Grassroots Poets Essays
Whitman and Neruda as Grassroots Poets
The familial bond between the two poets [Walt Whitman and Pablo Neruda] points not only to a much
needed reckoning of the affinity between the two hemispheres, but to a deeper need to establish a basis
for an American identity: roots, as Neruda referred to his fundamental link with Whitman (Nolan 33).
Both Walt Whitman and Pablo Neruda have been referred to as poets of the people, although it is
argued that Neruda with his city and country house, his extensive travels, and his political
connections, was never really one of the mass. Nonetheless, his work and energies went into
supporting the common working man, and not the elite. By the late 1940 s Neruda had openly defined

Through their writings these poets explored the meaning of being American (North and South), and
managed to evoke a feeling of oneness, of community between fellow countrymen that had been
fragmented and lacking previously, due largely to colonialism and ties to European dominance. In
Poet Chief, James Nolan writes: It was Whitman who, above all else, infused Neruda with the courage
and direction to dispel the dominant European cultural models of his own era and to look to his own
American landscape and language as a source for the music, voice and persona of his poetry (33).
The term grassroots is additionally appropriate for the purposes of this analysis when we break down
the word into its component parts. Whitman used the imagery of grass (recall his famous Leaves of
Grass), whereas Neruda uses the imagery of the tree with its intertwining roots to call up a sense of
connected oneness between people in general, but specifically used to unite the people of America. In
his chapter This Ecstatic Nation: Tribe, Mask, and Voice, James Nolan explores Whitman s and
Neruda s voice as a New World construction that ties together the diversity of their nations through the
connection to geography and history. At this point it is extremely helpful to look at a brief section in
which Nolan points out the similarities between Whitman s use of grass and Neruda s use of trees.

James Bond Personality Traits
James Bond has been around since 1962, and 26 movies later, his image is still going strong of the
extremely handsome and covert agent that saves the day, and always gets a pretty lady/Bond Girl, at

masculinity and power Bond has in these situations. At Skyfall, even then you see a male dominated

Myths Are Stories That Express Meaning, Morality Or...
Myths are stories that express meaning, morality or motivation. Whether they are true or not is
irrelevant. This was quoted by writer Michael Shermer, and it still holds today. This quote displays
that myths have the power to take the reader away from reality and launch them into a world of
mystery and phenomena. Also, even if myths have different stories and different characters, they all in
some way portray regular societal values. For example, The Fisherman and The Jinnee , Sifrit , and
Song of Roland all tell divergent stories with very diverse characters. But by the end, they all portray
the values of righteousness and how one man, or hero can rescue an entire society.
A myth is an image of terms in which we try to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

weak spot with a lance. Gunther kills Hagen immediately after. Once Chriemhilde hears of what
happened, she begins to kill most of those who were involved with his murder. However, she
eventually gets killed by the Huns.
In Roland, the main hero Rollanz is a powerful, courageous, and determined hero who is protected by
ruler Charlemagne. In the 7 year war, he had to influence an army through an ambush by himself. As
the warrior he is, he fights the battle rather than calling in reinforcements. However, this lead to the
tragic death of his comrade Olivier, and most of his soldiers. Towards the end, he blew the oil paint
which hollered for help to aid the rest of his people. This decision lead to his death, which makes him
a martyr. Roland is similar to the myths of Sundiata and Fisherman and the Jinnee because of their
actions and decision making made them heroes in their respective myths. Each of these myths have a
hero either protecting their loved ones, or saving their loved ones from danger. In Sundiata, the griot is
illustrated as brave, due to his willingness to slay enemies left and right, while disregarding his own
safety in battle, much like Rollanz. However, in the Fisherman and the Jinnee, the main fisherman
does not use violence but instead he uses his genius intellect to take himself out of tough situations.

The Bible Passage Judges Chapter Fourteen

article, A Black Feminist Approach to Biblical Studies by Wilda Gafney, which also interprets and

The Book of Judges is thought to be possibly written by Samuel and the purpose of this book is stated
to be, to show that God s judgement against sin is certain, and his forgiveness of sin and restoration to
relationship are just as certain for those who repent (KJV Study Bible). Judges Chapter Fourteen

Analysis Of Sandra Cisneros s Woman Hollering Creek
Women in a typical Hispanic culture usually desire an image they want or expect based on the media.
For example, when it comes to relationships the media portrays the ideal image of a marriage and then
women have an expectation, as in the short story Woman Hollering Creek , by Sandra Cisneros.
Cleofilas, the Protagonist, moves from her known household in Mexico to Seguin, Texas to get
married to Juan Pedro. Her hometown in Mexico is very similar to where she is now in Seguin.
Cleofilas meet two people in the neighborhood, Dolores and Soledad, who depended on their
husbands for everything so when they lost their husbands it had a major impact on them. On the other
hand, Cleofilas also meet two other women that are completely different from Dolores and Soledad
because Felice and Graciela do not have to depend on men for anything. In addition, Felice and
Graciela have a huge impact in Cleofilas life because they are able to help her escape her miserable
marriage. Cleofilas bases her whole life on a Mexican romantic telenovela, but instead her whole
marriage is a catastrophe because her husband abuses her. In Cleofilas new town there is a creek
called Woman Hollering Creek that runs from her new hometown to the city. The creek has a symbolic
meaning for all the women that she meet throughout her journey of realisation because her whole life

The Effects Of Parallel Trading In The Baby Formula Market
What happens when Chinese consumers lose confidence in the ability of domestic producers to bring
safe and quality products to market, especially when said products aim to fulfill an essential human
need the safe nurturing of infants? The wake of the Chinese baby formula scandal has not subsided,
with Chinese consumers rejecting domestic outputs with preference for northern produced goods
(Nguyen, Chi Chur Choa Hwang, 2016, 1). Compounding Chinese consumer sentiment, recent trends
in market liberalization and the growing ease of ecommerce have contributed to rising parallel trading
activity. Parallel trading is the practice of cross border travellers taking advantage of the price

Moreover, daigous often undercut any existing quotas, tariffs, and customs regulations in the
importing country, leading to market distortions there as well.
In Northern countries, parallel trading has lead to severe supply shortages in the home market, leaving
consumers frustrated and empty handed (Korporaal, 2017). This practice does not go unnoticed, as
consumers and producers, as well as governing authorities, are forced to take action. In Australia,
some retailers have implemented quotas on infant formula, while Hong Kong, a market facing similar
daigou activity to Australia, has limited the quantity of formula that travellers can take through
customs at 1.8 kg (Nguyen et al., 2016).
Price discrimination is the practice of offering the same product to different consumers at different
prices. This policy allows the producer to exploit the differences in elasticity of demand between
buyers. A seller of baby formula could charge a higher price in Chinese markets where buyers are
willing to pay high prices, and lower prices in the Australian market where buyers are less price
sensitive. Price discrimination allows the producer to capture a higher profit between both markets
than if they were charging a uniform price (Maskus, 2000, 1275).

Pros and Cons of Taking the Clothing Store Online
Edouard Manet incorporated a number of art historical references in his paintings of the 1860 s,
adding visual quotations into his paintings. Although this was not the reason why Manet was
considered avant garde, it reveals some of the artist s underlying philosophies and theories. Manet s
visual allusions also serve the purpose of anchoring the artist in his own historical context. The social
commentary Manet is famous for reveals itself in paintings like Olympia and Luncheon on the Grass.
Similar technique can be witnessed in other 1860s era Manet work including The Execution of
Maximilian and Music at the Tuilleries. One of Manet s painterly techniques during the 1860s was to
compose by drawing upon earlier motifs, fusing them with new sensibilities. This allowed Manet to
inject a healthy dose of irony into his work, as well as social commentary. The juxtaposition of
outmoded motifs with new motifs was a thematic parallel to his juxtaposing outmoded social norms
with new ones. Replacing old ideas, events, and people with contemporary ideas, events, and people
allowed Manet to suggest a historical continuity, and the cyclical nature of history. Moreover, Manet
could hearken to the recesses of his viewer s mind to draw attention to the artist s message. By the
1880s, Manet became adept at using quotations in his work. In The Execution of Maximilian, for
example, Manet evokes the work of Spanish artist Francisco Goya. Manet remained an ardent admirer
of Spanish art

Difference Between Shakespeare And Romeo And Juliet
Although Ovid and William Shakespeare were born in very different time periods, they share quite
similar stories of love and tragedy in their popular works Pyramus and Thisbe and The Tragedy of
Romeo and Juliet. Ovid first created his story, Pyramus and Thisbe , about the romance between two

which shows many signs of influence from Ovid. The stories also share various archetypes that shape
their tales. For example, the works both contain classical romances with an ending full of tragedy.

Throughout the stories, there is a looming factor that is changed by the tragic ending, the feud and the
mulberry tree. In Pyramus and Thisbe , the snow white mulberries, that are mentioned in the
exposition, change to a dark red after the warm blood of the two lovers splatters upon the fruit.
According to the text in Pyramus and Thisbe , The blood spurted up over the berries and dyed them a
dark red (948). Later in the story, Ovid states, The gods were pitiful at the end, and the lover s parents
too. The deep red fruit of the mulberry is the everlasting memorial of these true lovers (949). In both
tales, the change is carried from beginning to end, as the tone of the story also changes. The berries
from the mulberry tree represent the change in worlds of the characters. Similarly, the horrible feud
that begins the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet ends once the a pair of star crossed lovers take their
life. The Prince of Verona states at the end of the woeful play, See what a scourge is laid upon your
hate, / That heaven finds a means to kill your joys with love (5.3.292 293). The heartbroken families
of the two victims of tragic love decide to put away their differences and come together and shared the
love of their children. Once the two couples in each work end their lives, a significant symbol also

Willard T. Sears Analysis
A boy, about five or six years of age, stands holding the reins of his black pull toy horse, complete
with leather reins, saddle and whip. Dressed in a blue top with lace detailing around the neck and
wrists with white pants and small black shoes, the boy stands upon an intricately detailed mustard and
brown patterned floor. To his left stands an elegant wood table and a dramatic dark red drape behind it.
An aura of power, privilege and wealth seems to surround this young boy as he stares at his audience
with captivating deep brown eyes. Although young, he seems to have already taken the reins of his
life, both figuratively and physically. His name is Willard T. Sears.

Not only were these contributions added, but the entire scientific process had been laid in in what we
now know as the Scientific Method, the most basic structure of good science. These islamic scholars
themselves preserved the writings of many famous greek philosophers like Aristotle,
Plato, and Socrates, thus showing that there was no predominant aggression between the two.
After the decline of the Islamic Golden Age came the rise of Christianity around the 12th century and
was the next seat of knowledge. At this point there was no apparent schism between theism versus
science. During the beginning of this century and the next religion and science

literally. Challenging this view would be considered Heresy.
During this time, in defence of the predominant seat of christianity, the Catholic Church, in that time
being in the church gave you power over politics and daily life. Because of this people sought out to
become a priest to gain power and wealth, not the actually be a priest and all that it entails, and most

to do was to say to just understand it literally and throw the problem away in jail. This is what
happened to Galileo. This started what is believed to be the first major crack in the relationship of
science and religion, although it was not as bad as most people know as many religious still work in

Wireless Communication And Control System
WIRELESS COMMUNICATION WITH BCI
Abstract
A Brain Computer Interface is a communication and control system in which human mind can be
translated to the external world without the help of the normal output pathways of muscles and nerves.
Each time we do something or think about doing something, our brain generates distinct signals.
These signals corresponding to an activity, has a pattern. Finding this pattern is a challenging job and
is the main task of any Brain Computer Interface. A BCI acquires these signals from the brain of a
user in the form of Electroencephalography (EEG). Then after pre processing, feature extraction and
classification, it translates these signals into meaningful commands or instructions to drive a device or
application. Electroencephalography is used to record electrical fields that represent the brain signals
and are generated due to the local brain function.
Most of the applications today are only used in computers and just focus on the realization of direction
strategies. To meet the potential increasing user s needs and explore interacting processes with people
s mental states, we design an application that maps signals from the human brain and performs
operations like calling, messaging, gaming and photography. The brain signals are mapped and stored
to create different commands using a series of refined signal processing procedures. These commands
are declared and defined to perform the above mentioned operations like calling, messaging,

Personality Theories And Internet Testing
Personality Theories
Why has personality theories and internet testing created so much interest in the hiring process? Can
you judge a person s ability to perform the work just by giving them a personality assessment? Not
always, but in the process of hiring many organizations can rely on personality theories and testing,
which helps the process of pre selection. Personality theories help measure, cognitive ability,
knowledge, and personality of potential candidates. Employers today use pre assessment as part of the
selection process for multiple reasons. Personality theories and Internet testing is saves them time,
money and filter the candidates in the pre employment using personality traits.
Personality theories and Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) are both effective methods. With the over
flowing job applications, personality theories and CAT helps reducing the overall time of the hiring
process. Time is a very important factor for any company. Personality theories and computer adaptive
testing are meaningful in the process of hiring because it saves time, saves money and is meaningful if
it is evaluated for reliability, validity and acceptability. Many tests are written specifically for business
settings and are likely to be deemed acceptable by job applicants. Most scholars now agree that
personality is determined by a combination of both genetics and environment, and that neither is
solely responsible for personality.
Computer adaptive testing (CAT) is a major

Analysis Of The Book Cold Mountain
Symbolism is the idea of representing things by using symbols or devoting things with a symbolic
meaning or character. Symbolism can range from something miniscule or even something broad to
something very specific, as long as it has some connection with something else or someone else.
Charles Frazier, author of Cold Mountain, exemplifies quite a few examples of symbolism. From the
crows to the roads, and even the title itself, the novel shows show many different points of symbolism.
As the book goes on, the amount of symbolism appears, making the character and the symbolism
more understand and attention grabbing towards the reader making them not want to put the book
down. When people think crows they think annoying black birds that try to steal food from gardens,
but in Cold Mountain, it is a big part of the story, as well as a reoccurring symbol within the novel.
The reader first reads about the crows right when the book begins, when Inman was younger and in
school. When he was just a little kid in school, he was being mischievous and decided to throw his hat
out the window, but when it landed it took a shape of something. It landed far out across the
playground at the edge of the hayfield and rested there black as the shadow of a crow squatted on the
ground (Frazier 5). In this quote, it is odd that a young age he sees a crow just from a hat, but it does
show early on, that there is some sort of connection between Inman and crows. Although the first

for my research article was conjoined twins as a whole population for lack of a better term, and the
dependent variable for my research article was the different ways they are conjoined and the options
they (their parents) have to optimize their lives. My hypothesis was that surgeries in most cases would

This puts twice the strain on the organs before the actual conjoined factor is even entered into the
picture. The two organs that cause the most medical problems when separation procedures occur is the
liver and the heart, if these two organs are shared, the twins cannot be separated without certain death.
Another medical hardship for doctors is the fact that each case is unique. There is no medical
handbook for the treatment of conjoined twins like their is with many other conditions. When you get
cancer you do chemotherapy, when you break your leg you get a cast, when you get dehydrated your
get IV fluids, but with conjoined twins every case is different making the medical side very difficult.
The last problem that occurs is the better growth and development of the twin who is natural favored.

Imagery In The Black Cat
Edgar Allan Poe who wrote The Black Cat along with a bunch of other literary works is naturally a
master at creating imagery as well as a certain mood that he wants his readers to get into their minds.
The mood of this story would definitely be fright and uneasiness, Poe develops this mood by adding
certain characters, events, places, and describing words to the story. Examples of these would be the
black cat, murders, the cellar in the old building, and words such as swooning to bring certain effects
into the scenes. I took from my waistcoat pocket a pen knife, opened it, grasped the poor beast by the
throat, and deliberately cut one of it s eyes from the socket. (7) This scene really gives us a vivid
description of what goes on at this time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The curtains of my bed were in flames. (10) Even in the simplest of sentences, Poe has the ability to
create such powerful images in our minds. Almost instantly after reading this sentence you get a
picture in your mind of a huge fire and scrambling of people waking up to flames almost not being
able to escape. So powerful. It was a black cat a very large one fully as large as Pluto, and closely
resembling him in every respect but one. (16) Poe s describing words, vocabulary, and attention
grippers are extremely beneficial to the readers as demonstrated several times above. Edgar Allan Poe

Exploring Treatment of Women in Nineteenth Century through Literature
In the Nineteenth Century, women were treated very differently to the way they are today. Modern day
society relies on the basis that there should be equality between men and women in all aspects of life
and there have been laws put in place such as the Sex Discrimination Act to help reflect these policies.
Authors who lived during the Nineteenth Century wrote about how women were seen and treated in
the 19th Century. The stories they wrote gave the impression of society being dominated by males
who believed that they were superior to women. This type of society was called a patriarchal society.
The story Tony Kytes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Naturally the father would want his son to chose the best girl for his son. He decides that the right girl
is whichever of em did not ask to ride with Tony. Tony s father belived that it was okay for men to be
forward but it was not okay for women to be forward. This shows that in the Nineteenth century
women were not supposed to expect or ask for things; they should get only what men offer to them.
They were supposed to be passive to what men wanted and put their husband s needs before their own.
In asking for a lift, the woman was pushing for what she wanted and therefore not being an ideal
woman. Women were also expected to comply with what a man wanted her to do, no matter how
absurd the request, or they would not be seen as a perfect women . The women in Tony Kytes and the
Arch Deceiver went along with Tony s strange requests of hiding under corn sacks I don t mind to
oblige you Tony because as far as they were concerned, they should please their man to any extent.
This story makes the reader believe that women in those times were expected to be passive,
submissive and dependent on men.
Because the Nineteenth century was a patriarchal society, women were expected to follow these
unofficial rules of how to act. In Tony Kytes and the Arch Deceiver there are three different types of
women that are described. Milly is the most naïve girl who falls for everything Tony

American Youth Culture
The end of the World War II marked the beginning of a new era, not only for America but for the
entire world. In the United States, the end of the war was celebrated and hope for the future began.
America s future looked bright even though there still was uncertainty with the threat of the Soviet
Union. A distinctive youth culture emerged during the postwar era. Also the suburbs were considered a
popular place to live. It was a socially conservative time. Gender roles for men and women were
clearly defined. This era s emphasis was guided upon social conformity and family.
Kelley stated that the most popular comics of the Golden Age were the teen humor comics, most
notably the Archie comics (11). After the war superheroes declined, and a comic book seal of approval
was created. This seal made sure that comics were created wholesome, appropriate for the youth
culture and in good moral standing. There was to be no signs of homosexuality, perversion, sex before
marriage or disrespect to authority or the mention of alcohol and drugs. If Superman s goal was to
defeat the Nazis, then Archie s goal was to ask Betty to the big dance (Kelley 11). One example of
Archie not wanting to encourage homosexuality is in the Elvis scene in Comics and Cartoons ... Show

America s typical teenager never uses teen slang, never fights, never smokes or drinks alcohol always
obeys his parents in the end and betrays only the vaguest hint of his libido (11). There are many

Betty had the same dress as her couture Paris one. She immediately demands her father to fix the
situation. He solved the problem by giving Betty $50 to buy another dress. When Archie figured out
both had the same dress and laughed at the style of it, Betty bought a new one while Veronica had no

Robert Dahl Pluralism
Robert Dahl in Dilemmas of Pluralist Democracy (1982) realizes that there are several issues to
understanding the term democracy and the antiquated meaning that it has. In this reading, Dahl also
addresses domination and how power and its influence are allocated in the political process through
interest groups and organized political parties. On the first concept, Dahl attempts to give democracy a
more adequate meaning to the modern world. He coins the term Polyarchy where society tries to
implement democracy in large scale governments, also known as countries. (pg. 131) This is Dahl s
response to knowing that in all democratized countries there are organizations or independent factions
that exist. For Dahl this freedom to assemble is known as a pluralist democracy and shows that a
country that is exercising democratic pluralism is one where polyarchy and important groups are
autonomous. Pg. 132 As a result, Dahl concludes that any country that is democratic is considered a
pluralist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sets a criteria based on his observations of the ideals of Democracy. These ideals consist of 5
qualities that must exist in order for a democracy to function. In his observations he identifies the
following: 1. Equality in voting, 2. Effective participation, 3. Enlightened understanding, 4. Final
control over the agenda, and 5. Inclusion. Dahl then discovers a dilemma in pluralist democracy. This
dilemma is in understanding that people aren t autonomous if their decision making process fails to
satisfy the criteria above and that also if the political process were to meet the criteria in its entirety.
Then people ironically could not govern themselves as a result. (pg. 133) Dahl s critique is that since
democracy is related to the idea of people being autonomous, then therefore a decision making
process can only be democratic if and only if it meets these criteria. (pg.

Comcast Corporation Case
It would be fair to say that the Comcast Corporation is a triple treat. The company provides cable,
internet services, and is a home telephone provider. With all that Comcast is producing film, cable,
and television. It s the largest media company in the world. In 2013, it took in $64.67 billion,
generating $13.6 billion in operating income and $7.1 billion in net profits (Cassidy, 2014) . How can
any company compete with that, this is why as an economic society we need competition. This giant is
still not satisfied with the profitable margin that it receives each year. Comcast merged with Time
Warner Cable in 2005 to purchase the competition, Adelphia Communications. In purchasing the fifth
largest cable company comes all of their subscribers making Comcast a colossal company. Now that it
has majority control over the market, Comcast is selling the idea to the public that the services they
will provide will benefit the consumer. The large cable company s know that as a consumer we have
no choice but to pay for the entertainment that they provide, which leaves the consumer with no
choice at all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The services that the Comcast Company provides the consumer are the same quality of entertainment

Looking at France s packages, they offer free telephone services around the world and their internet

  • 2. Rock And Roll History The begins of rock and roll have always been challenged as to when they were first established. The most common argument is that is first started in Southern United states, the birth place of many of the first early rock and roll music hits. As the south always had a huge majority of slaves from Africa and immigrants from Europe, through the gathering of different influences that created a connection between African musical traditions with European instrumentation. Immigration of once slaves to populated urban centers including New York City and Chicago meant that both the black and white communities were living in close proximity, resulting in hearing each other s music and even began to follow and impersonate each other s fashions . • 3. Old Men Comparison No Country for Old Men Novel and Film comparison. In this particular essay, that I am doing for the extra credit, I will be comparing the famous novel No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, 2005 and the correlating film No Country for Old Men , directed by Joel Ethan Coen, 2007. I will discuss the similarities and the differences of the film and the book, blending the difference of genres and leveling the field, allowing to compare. Staring off, I would like to mention the fact that a comparison of the book and the film is a difficult thing to do, as these genres are very different in their nature. Let s start with the novel: as a lot of Cormac McCarthy s novels this one is a stylized gothic Western , its intense and both depressing, emotional and fascinating to read with its vivid imagery and gripping plot. McCarthy s blood soaked Mexican border, hitmen, gangs, drugs, the rotten aspect of the government, sociopathic murderers, etc. Lack of punctuation, for me personally, was a lackluster part of the whole novel. The whole action sequence can be described as chronological, yet, despite the predictability of some scenes, heavy in its intensity making the thriller natural and the action ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It very much contrasted for me to read No Country for Old Men , for a kid who grew up on romances, one thing was very apparent there was no mental digging of the main character (except for Bell s interludes of course, the best part of the book). No insight into Moss s head lead to my inevitable subtle disinterest to the book. But, back to the point, this was the prime characteristic why the book movie transition would do so well lack of mental digging, which is very hard to transition into visuals, or without using inappropriate for this movie narration of Moss s head. Also, the short size of the movie lands itself perfectly into the movie s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She s proud and refined as an adult, and beautiful and self possessed as a child , and for some reason Pip falls desperately in love with her, even though she s really, really rude. But we can t hate Estella, either. Can you imagine living in Satis House with a mother who wears her wedding dress everyday and who only cares that you grow up to break boys hearts? • 5. Essay about The Disputed Reign of Dowager Empress Tz’u-hsi The Disputed Reign of Dowager Empress Tz u hsi Historical record is not always an accurate representation of fact. An example of this would be the long reign of the Dowager Empress Tz u hsi, in which there were hundreds of documents written about her life. These documents have been taken and used in the production of numerous books, especially among Western historians. It was these early historians who have established the widely accepted perspective that Tz u hsi hungered for power, abused it, and retained it using any means necessary. This understanding is echoed today by authors such as W.G. Sebald, author of The Rings of Saturn. There are many differences between the accounts of the Western perspective and that of Sebald s, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She then had three princes, who had acted as the late emperor s viceroys, charged with treason and graciously allowed them to commit suicide using a silken rope (147 8). This idea about her craving for power is reiterated with Sebald s claim of the mysterious deaths of her son and pregnant daughter in law who seemed healthy until the Emperor becomes old enough to rule without the Empress (148). Then the Empress had them replaced by an heir who would be easier to control: her two year old nephew Kuang hsu (148). Sebald described the second emperor, Kaung hsu, as being fascinated by the mysteries of modern machines (152). Although this may seem like a minute detail, Kaung Hsu s love of modern machines is a representation of his favor for modernization. It was this interest in modernization that eventually led to a great disagreement with the Empress (152). Once it was clear that Tz u hsi would deny the nation of Kaung hsu s ideas of modernization, Kaung hsu attempted to wrest power to himself and was stopped by the Empress (152). The Empress then imprisoned Kaung hsu in a moated palace (152). Once the Emperor was confined, the Empress would be able to rule uncontested for as long as she lived and as long as the Emperor was powerless. To keep the Emperor powerless, Tz u hsi made sure that he stayed isolated for ten years until the late summer of 1908 when he started having chronic headaches and backache, renal cramps, hypersensitivity to ... • 6. Mother Child And Father Child Relationships Essay Mother Child and Father Child Relationships Parent Child Relationships, Parental Psychological Control, and Aggression: Maternal and Paternal Relationships written by Murray, Dwyer, Rubin, Knighton Wisor and Booth LaForce (2013) sought to understand the role of paternal and maternal parenting in predicting child developmental outcomes. Specifically, the study focused on the examination of the extent to which quality father to child and mother to child relationships moderate or lessen the impact of adversities arising from ineffective parenting practices on adolescent aggression that may follow. Literature Review Murray et al. (2013) acknowledged the direct correlation between aggression and parent child relationships. Also, the authors observed that peer influence among the adolescents is on the increase and that parents play a significant role in shaping the group s aggression outcomes. Therefore, the central purpose was to foster a completion of measures of youth aggressive behavior, the quality of parent child associations, and psychological control. In turn, the results were used to understand the significance of parenting behaviors such as psychological control, monitoring knowledge and parental support in determining the nature of adolescent aggression, as well as other related problem behaviors that include delinquency. Overall, Murray et al. (2013) sought to explore the perceived role of the quality of the relationship between parents and children in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Birth Control And Fertility Birth Control and Fertility One of the most common misconceptions circling society for years is how the use of contraceptives (birth control) can affect women s fertility. Birth control is a mixture of hormones that thicken the cervical mucus to prevent the ovaries from ovulating eggs, as well as changing the lining of the uterus to make reproduction difficult. For this reason, women use multiple contraceptive methods to help with hormonal issues, menstrual problems, ovarian disorders, but the most common use is for the prevention of pregnancy. So how does a medication that prevents one from getting pregnant not affect fertility, especially for those who utilize it for years? Ever since the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved contraceptives in 1960, it has become one of the most thoroughly tested medications. With a few notable exceptions, immediately after you stop using birth control, your fertility will go right back to what it was destined to be, says Dr. Paul Blumenthal, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins University Medical School. By this he means that problems conceiving may be attributed to age, disorders, and other factors that can lead to infertility, but the contraceptive itself does not affect it once you stop utilizing it. In fact, studies show that birth control improves fertility by helping cure ovarian disorders that lead to infertility, as well as an infertility treatment to patients that cannot conceive. • 8. The Anishinabe Way During the eighteenth century the fur trade, requiring the natives to seek furs in the hinterland, changed the Anishinabe way of living. Evidence shows that before the trade, small bands net fished along the Georgian Bay islands and coast with some winter hunting and ice fishing along the rivers but not any substantial stays on the inland lakes. After the trade with the Europeans a new Anishinabe way emerged. The annual routine, developed over many generations for Anishinabe, would start with each family requesting, from their local chief perhaps on a visit to Parry Island, as to which lake area they would use. Although these fall meetings ostensibly were to get permission, it was largely more of a confirmation of which land the family traditionally worked. After being born on May 6, 1914, in Nashville Tennessee, Jarrell and his parents moved to Los Angeles where his dad worked as a photographer. When Mr. and Mrs. Jarrell divorced, Randall and his younger brother returned to Nashville to live with their mother. While in Nashville, Randall attended Hume Frogg high school. The reader gets a clear image of something being very high above the ground. When the author says, loosed from the dream of life, the reader gets a slight feeling of death or a vision of someone dying. The fourth line, I woke to the black flak and the nightmare fighters, brings the reader visual, auditory and tactile imagery. The reader can picture someone waking up to shrapnel, from an exploding bomb, flying by their head. One can hear the gunfire of the, nightmare fighters, along with the exploding shells. The reader also gets a tactile image when the author says, I woke up, because everyone knows what it is like to wake up from a sleep. In the fifth and final line the reader gets a very graphic visual image. The reader can picture someone s body being so destroyed that instead of removing the body from the turret the soldiers must wash it out with a hose. Jarrell also used a great deal of figurative language in this poem. The entire poem is an extended metaphor. This poem compares the struggles of war with the struggles of being born. Gallium or Ga, atomic number 31 was in a long research process for fifteen years by Lecoq de Boisbaudran. He had been meticulously studying the spectra of several chemical elements, Lecoq knew that each and every element produces its very own and distinct pattern of lines when heated, or spectra. As Lecoq de Boisbaudran continued his drive to learn more of the distinct element spectra, he distinguished that the element on the periodic table between indium and aluminum was yet to be discovered. These views or claims about fluoride are just too contradictory, both cannot be true. Fluoride has hidden dangers that not enough people know about and should be removed from the water supplies despite false reports that it is actually beneficial, and the practice of water fluoridation should be completely eliminated. Naturally fluoridated areas preceded the field trials since fluoride occurs naturally in some areas. (Oral) Communities with naturally occurring fluoride in water supplies were chosen for the trials, because results could be seen in these communities without so many years of testing. The studies showed that fluoride reduces dental caries to some extent depending on the amount of ingestion. These positive results lead to water fluoridation becoming a popular practice throughout civilized areas of the world. Putting a substance like fluoride in municipal water supplies is a good way to medicate many people at a time, since everybody drinking from the water supply would have a constant intake of fluoride. The big advantage of water fluoridation is that it benefits all residents in a community regardless of age, socio economic status, education or employment. (Kirshen) The number one purpose for water fluoridation is for the promotion of healthy and strong teeth. As it turns out fluoride doesn t even help with teeth, in fact it causes many problems with their formation. According to Dean Murphy DDS in his book The Devil s Poison: Fluorotic enamel is more porous and structurally weaker having a wear resistance that is commonly 40% to 60% of normal. This tone and character construction are established in the beginning; Chinese peasant families famishing in comfort. The word famishing is considered relatively pretentious to insinuate that the narrator is equipped with some form of education, contrary to that of the family he is talking about. The narrator s relaxed humour is shown when he compares the television size to the size of the Chinese families; 25 inch Chinese peasant families famishing in comfort on the 25 inch screen. His willingness to display such wit towards a dire situation suggests his inconsideration towards the Chinese and furthermore, asserts his superiority on them. It was the 69 degrees of dusk. The moment the shadow had moved enough to let in the smallest amount of daylight, the moment ended. It was obvious why everyone made the trek. The sun being even 99% eclipsed is not the same experience; it has to be in totality. • 17. The Court System Of England And Wales The court system in England and Wales means a thousand years of history and development throughout different political and social climates. This essay will provide a brief history of this evolution and evaluation of some advantages and disadvantages of a modern jury system. According to The Open University (2014, section 10.1), under Anglo Saxon domination all disputes were resolved in local courts called moots . These courts later developed and became Magistrates Courts, still keeping their local function. Majority of all criminal cases are heard there, however the courts can only decide on summary or triable either way offences, referring the most serious files to the Crown Court. Crown courts, which superseded the courts of assize and quarter sessions, were established under the Courts Act 1971 to improve efficiency of the existing criminal justice system. The latter were local courts of the Queen s Bench Division, which served a number of circuits by assembling juries and hearing cases not serious enough to go before a High Court judge. The Norman Conquest made significant changes to the English law by establishing the Curia Regis , the court which was ruled by the king and his appointed judges. Some key institutions of Parliament, such as the common law courts including King s (Queen s) Bench, Common Pleas, Exchequer, and the Court of Chancery evolved from the Curia Regis . The law became to be more centralised through a unified court system to a national ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Arguments Against Egalitarianism In this essay, I will explain the view of prioritarianism as an alternative to egalitarianism, as it avoids the main problem facing egalitarianism. Albeit that prioritarianism withstands this problem, it brings with it more problems than it solves, so I will then refute prioritarianism and suggest we instead move to sufficientarianism. In Derek Parfit s Equality and Priority (1997) he introduces the idea of prioritarianism as an alternative to egalitarianism, this is to avoid the levelling down objection that egalitarianism faces. Egalitarianism claims that there is intrinsic moral value in some sort of equality, be it justice, opportunity, resources etc. (Arneson, 2013). The levelling down objection claims that there can be a case where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prioritarianism claims that people who are worse off should be given moral priority over those who are better off (Parfit, 1997, p. 213). If we imagine a society where there are rich people and very rich people, and another society where there are very poor people and poor people, and getting people from very poor to poor gives the same increase in utility as going from rich to very rich. Then, according to egalitarianism, getting people from rich to very rich would be just as good as getting people from very poor to poor. Prioritarianism, however, claims that getting people from very poor to poor matters more because they are worse off, even though the total increase in utility would be the same as getting the rich people to very rich. The prioritarian claim is not one of aiming to reduce equality, as if there was just one person in the world who is worse off, and no one else exists, we would be just be obliged to give him just as much benefit as we would a world where there are also other people who were better off. Benefiting those who are worse off is not relative to those who are better off, it is an absolute (Parfit, 1997). Prioritarianism avoids the levelling down objection because if we imagine the case where there are very rich people and very poor people, as we are not aiming for equality, making the very rich very poor would bring no good. A prioritarian would only be motivated to benefit the very poor as they re the ones who are worse off (Parfit, 1997). This is more in line with moral intuitions, making prioritarianism a more attractive view than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Theme Of Memories In Toni Morrison s Beloved In the novel Beloved by Toni Morrison, memories are seen as powerful instruments which haunt the characters throughout the narrative. During the institution of slavery, slaves were dehumanised and treated subordinately. This novel asserts the fact that slaves were actually human beings, by exploring the ways that they had to endure the disturbing and traumatic memories of it, and still find ways to live. In the article Four Hundred Years of Silence: Myth, History and Motherhood in Toni Morrison s Beloved , Sally Keenan explores the need to remember and to tell and the desire to forget, memories with an inexhaustible and monstrous power to erupt and overwhelm the mind but which must somehow be laid aside if life is to continue (48). By this Keenan means that the novel accentuates the difficulty that the characters face in order to forget their painful memories, which at the same time cannot be disremembered. The urge to forget is complicated as it becomes laden with the feelings of pain, guilt, shame and fear, which eventually leads to an assumption that the traumatic memories cannot be forgotten. The information that is gladly given away, used to be protected for fear of identity theft. So what has dramatically changed in order to change these morals? Some believe that the invention of the Internet has caused people to believe that they are safe behind the screen. Both Walt Whitman and Pablo Neruda have been referred to as poets of the people, although it is argued that Neruda with his city and country house, his extensive travels, and his political connections, was never really one of the mass. Through their writings these poets explored the meaning of being American (North and South), and managed to evoke a feeling of oneness, of community between fellow countrymen that had been fragmented and lacking previously, due largely to colonialism and ties to European dominance. The term grassroots is additionally appropriate for the purposes of this analysis when we break down the word into its component parts. Whitman used the imagery of grass (recall his famous Leaves of Grass), whereas Neruda uses the imagery of the tree with its intertwining roots to call up a sense of connected oneness between people in general, but specifically used to unite the people of America. In his chapter This Ecstatic Nation: Tribe, Mask, and Voice, James Nolan explores Whitman s and Neruda s voice as a New World construction that ties together the diversity of their nations through the connection to geography and history. Cleofilas meet two people in the neighborhood, Dolores and Soledad, who depended on their husbands for everything so when they lost their husbands it had a major impact on them. On the other hand, Cleofilas also meet two other women that are completely different from Dolores and Soledad because Felice and Graciela do not have to depend on men for anything. In addition, Felice and Graciela have a huge impact in Cleofilas life because they are able to help her escape her miserable marriage. Cleofilas bases her whole life on a Mexican romantic telenovela, but instead her whole marriage is a catastrophe because her husband abuses her. In Cleofilas new town there is a creek called Woman Hollering Creek that runs from her new hometown to the city. The creek has a symbolic meaning for all the women that she meet throughout her journey of realisation because her whole life is based on it being like a telenovela, but at the end it all changes. The Effects Of Parallel Trading In The Baby Formula Market What happens when Chinese consumers lose confidence in the ability of domestic producers to bring safe and quality products to market, especially when said products aim to fulfill an essential human need the safe nurturing of infants? The wake of the Chinese baby formula scandal has not subsided, with Chinese consumers rejecting domestic outputs with preference for northern produced goods (Nguyen, Chi Chur Choa Hwang, 2016, 1). Compounding Chinese consumer sentiment, recent trends in market liberalization and the growing ease of ecommerce have contributed to rising parallel trading activity. Moreover, daigous often undercut any existing quotas, tariffs, and customs regulations in the importing country, leading to market distortions there as well. In Northern countries, parallel trading has lead to severe supply shortages in the home market, leaving consumers frustrated and empty handed (Korporaal, 2017). This practice does not go unnoticed, as consumers and producers, as well as governing authorities, are forced to take action. In Australia, some retailers have implemented quotas on infant formula, while Hong Kong, a market facing similar daigou activity to Australia, has limited the quantity of formula that travellers can take through customs at 1.8 kg (Nguyen et al., 2016). Price discrimination is the practice of offering the same product to different consumers at different prices. This policy allows the producer to exploit the differences in elasticity of demand between buyers. A seller of baby formula could charge a higher price in Chinese markets where buyers are willing to pay high prices, and lower prices in the Australian market where buyers are less price sensitive. Price discrimination allows the producer to capture a higher profit between both markets than if they were charging a uniform price (Maskus, 2000, 1275). • 38. Pros and Cons of Taking the Clothing Store Online Edouard Manet incorporated a number of art historical references in his paintings of the 1860 s, adding visual quotations into his paintings. Although this was not the reason why Manet was considered avant garde, it reveals some of the artist s underlying philosophies and theories. Manet s visual allusions also serve the purpose of anchoring the artist in his own historical context. The social commentary Manet is famous for reveals itself in paintings like Olympia and Luncheon on the Grass. Similar technique can be witnessed in other 1860s era Manet work including The Execution of Maximilian and Music at the Tuilleries. One of Manet s painterly techniques during the 1860s was to compose by drawing upon earlier motifs, fusing them with new sensibilities. This allowed Manet to inject a healthy dose of irony into his work, as well as social commentary. The juxtaposition of outmoded motifs with new motifs was a thematic parallel to his juxtaposing outmoded social norms with new ones. Replacing old ideas, events, and people with contemporary ideas, events, and people allowed Manet to suggest a historical continuity, and the cyclical nature of history. Moreover, Manet could hearken to the recesses of his viewer s mind to draw attention to the artist s message. By the 1880s, Manet became adept at using quotations in his work. In The Execution of Maximilian, for example, Manet evokes the work of Spanish artist Francisco Goya. Manet remained an ardent admirer of Spanish art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Difference Between Shakespeare And Romeo And Juliet Although Ovid and William Shakespeare were born in very different time periods, they share quite similar stories of love and tragedy in their popular works Pyramus and Thisbe and The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Ovid first created his story, Pyramus and Thisbe , about the romance between two separated lovers. Then, years later, Shakespeare wrote his play The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, which shows many signs of influence from Ovid. The stories also share various archetypes that shape their tales. For example, the works both contain classical romances with an ending full of tragedy. • 42. Wireless Communication And Control System WIRELESS COMMUNICATION WITH BCI Abstract A Brain Computer Interface is a communication and control system in which human mind can be translated to the external world without the help of the normal output pathways of muscles and nerves. Each time we do something or think about doing something, our brain generates distinct signals. These signals corresponding to an activity, has a pattern. Finding this pattern is a challenging job and is the main task of any Brain Computer Interface. A BCI acquires these signals from the brain of a user in the form of Electroencephalography (EEG). Then after pre processing, feature extraction and classification, it translates these signals into meaningful commands or instructions to drive a device or application. Electroencephalography is used to record electrical fields that represent the brain signals and are generated due to the local brain function. Most of the applications today are only used in computers and just focus on the realization of direction strategies. To meet the potential increasing user s needs and explore interacting processes with people s mental states, we design an application that maps signals from the human brain and performs operations like calling, messaging, gaming and photography. The brain signals are mapped and stored to create different commands using a series of refined signal processing procedures. These commands are declared and defined to perform the above mentioned operations like calling, messaging, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Modern day society relies on the basis that there should be equality between men and women in all aspects of life and there have been laws put in place such as the Sex Discrimination Act to help reflect these policies. Authors who lived during the Nineteenth Century wrote about how women were seen and treated in the 19th Century. In this reading, Dahl also addresses domination and how power and its influence are allocated in the political process through interest groups and organized political parties. On the first concept, Dahl attempts to give democracy a more adequate meaning to the modern world. He coins the term Polyarchy where society tries to implement democracy in large scale governments, also known as countries. (pg. 131) This is Dahl s response to knowing that in all democratized countries there are organizations or independent factions that exist. Dahl then discovers a dilemma in pluralist democracy. This dilemma is in understanding that people aren t autonomous if their decision making process fails to satisfy the criteria above and that also if the political process were to meet the criteria in its entirety. Then people ironically could not govern themselves as a result.
