Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. Selection of my
photographs
The reason why I have chosen these three pictures to be
in my final piece because I feel as if that these photos
really represent how fashion in London is starting to grow
rapidly with more and more people getting into the new
trends in todays society. As the photographer, decided to
choose the location because I felt as if that it can bring out
the true flaws of certain individuals E.g. my models were
very comfortable with it showing their true talent.
3. Sourcing and Importing
For the pictures that I took and I
wanted to carry on with and put onto
my magazine, I had to create a
layout of my magazine on InDesign
because it is on the best
applications that you can use to
create things such as magazines.
Before creating our own magazine, I
was taught on how to use it by using
a template that was given to us and
work our way round it, by doing that
it enabled me to looking more into it
and use my skills to enhance a
excellent article/magazine.
5. Experiments on InDesign
On the right, it shows a blank template meaning that it was the first thing that was showing when I
first started off making my article . On the left hand side of that template you can see toolbars
which helped me out with place my image, alter a little, put my text around my image etc .
The layout of my page is going to be what is on the bottom left, I am going to have the title where is
says ‘write headline here’, just underneath it I am going to have a little from a celebrity basically
giving off what my article is going to be about and then the rest of my text is going to be what my
article is about. The design of my article is going to be bright so that when people are flicking
through the pages of the magazine, it will instantly catch their eyes and then they will want to read
it. During the process of making this, I was still getting used to using InDesign but now I can say I
highly recommend it for people to create things because it has certain features which are basic for
you to use.
