The Tang Dynasty lasted from 618 to 907 CE in China with its capital in Chang'an. It rose after the downfall of the Sui Dynasty due to rebellions. Li Yuan declared himself emperor but was later forced to step down by his son Li Shimin, known as Emperor Taizong, who began the Golden Age. During this period the economy flourished, agriculture advanced, and literature, art, and technology developed greatly. However, corruption in the later 800s led to rebellion and economic troubles, and the last emperor abdicated in the early 900s, ending the Tang Dynasty.
