Taking A Stand Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Taking A Stand" can be a challenging task that requires careful
consideration and a thoughtful approach. The difficulty lies in the need to articulate a clear
stance on a particular issue while providing well-reasoned arguments to support that position.
Firstly, selecting a topic that resonates with you and is significant enough to warrant a stand is
crucial. Once the topic is chosen, the writer must delve into extensive research to gather relevant
information, statistics, and examples to strengthen their position. This phase demands time and
effort to ensure that the arguments presented are well-informed and persuasive.
Crafting a thesis statement that succinctly captures the essence of your stand is another
challenging aspect. This statement sets the tone for the entire essay and must be carefully
formulated to convey the main point effectively. Additionally, maintaining coherence and logical
flow throughout the essay requires strategic organization of ideas and arguments.
Furthermore, addressing counterarguments and providing counter-evidence is an essential part of
the essay. This demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the topic and enhances the
credibility of the writer's position. Balancing the presentation of one's stance with an
acknowledgment of opposing viewpoints requires a nuanced and diplomatic approach.
Finally, concluding the essay in a manner that leaves a lasting impression on the reader while
summarizing the main points is vital. The conclusion should reinforce the significance of the
stand taken and leave the reader with something to ponder.
In conclusion, writing a "Taking A Stand" essay involves a multifaceted process that requires
research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. It demands a balance between
passion and objectivity, as well as the ability to navigate the complexities of the chosen topic.
While challenging, the process of crafting such an essay can be immensely rewarding, providing
a platform to express one's beliefs and contribute to important conversations.

Science and Religion Essay
Science and religion have always collided. Science is based on observation and
what we can prove. Religion on the other hand makes arguments analytical in nature
and requires faith. The basis though may not seem similar. A scientist might call this
as the order in the universe or the Energy, which is transmitted in the world we live
in. Religions like to look this ultimate reality as God. This entity is capable of setting
an order in the universeand is nothing but what religiondefines as God. Science and
Religion then appear to be tied up like two versions of the same subject.
What major affects does science have on religion in the past two centuries? From
Isaac Newton, who discovered gravity, Thomas Edison who invented to light... Show

All these affect religion and who believes it and to what extent we as people
actually believe. In today s society people want to be able to grasp, to hold it, and
even just feel it. So how do some people believe in God, we are not able to see him,
hold him, let alone hear him? So how can we actually believe in something that is
not there? Now you see this is how science draws us away from our beliefs.
Science says that, seeing is believing. Meaning that if u can see something then
you can believe in it. We are not able to see him. But his existence could be debated
using knowledge based on what we see around us. For instance when we throw
coins on a table, these coins will stop and arrange themselves on the table. What
made the coins be in the order we see them after they have been thrown? Maybe it
was the cause of Newton s Laws. But then again this order as proposed by Science
implies an order setter. Is this God, a human like, yet unseen being? Are his features
well defined? How do we describe the qualities of such a being? If He is perfect,
his features are the highest level of moral standards, then we can say that him and is
followers are beyond our understanding. We might say that he is wise, he knows all,
and he is merciful and powerful. But these just limits how we express things not
described by our won language. It is possible we might not have
Role Of Alcohol In The 1920 s
Back in the 1920s, alcohol was the greatest impact that changes the lifestyle and
cultural conflicts. Then these changes had eventually became noticed by the
governing power, and on the january 16 the 18 amendment prohibition came in and
that the law have forbidden the country to stop any sort of manufacture, transport,
and sale of alcohol. Soon the mob and gangsters take the advantage of this new
prohibition and start to smuggling and bootlegging alcohols. Alcohol are smuggled
in from mainly two places Mexico and Canada, and each year Canada roughly export
a million gallons of alcohol to US. Soon the mob and gangster s little business is
getting quite profitable. Smuggling was not enough for them the Bootleggers started
to make their own
Use Of Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
In Cold Blood Response At this point in the book, the killers, Dick and Perry, are
on the run. Detective Dewey is struggling to find clues. He thinks that there may
have been more than one killer. Dewey is also having trouble finding a motive, as
he tries to reimagine the crime. One literary device that Capote utilizes is imagery.
It is most noticeable when he describes the atmosphere of the town after the murder.
Imagination, of course, can open any door turn the key and let terror walk right in.
Ever since the murder, the people of Holcomb have been imagining the worse.
Capote puts it perfectly as he describes the town that the hunters see when they first
arrive from Colorado: windows ablaze, almost every window in almost every house,

In this study, we report reports an approach to form an exceptionally high power
lithium ion capacitor (LIC) using environmentally friendly lithiated silicone
oxycarbide (SiOC) material derived from phenyl rich silicone oil as the anode and
activated carbon via KOH activation of snake fruit rinds (SKOH) as the cathode. A
battery type SiOC anode exhibited an incredibly high rate capability in which one
third of its initial capacity was maintained even after the discharge current density
increased up to 1,600 fold (from 0.05 to 80 A g 1). Moreover, the SKOH cathode
demonstrated a massive surface area of 2,638 m2 g 1 promoting a remarkably high
capacitance. When coupled to lihtium metal in a cell, the maximum power density of
SKOH in LIC was 7.4 Г— 106 W kg 1 at a current density of 103 W h kg 1 (a
loading mass of c.a. 4 mg cm 2). The optimized lithiated SiOC anode and SKOH
cathode were paired in an LIC cell, providing a maximum power density of 156,000
W h kg 1 at an energy density of 25 W h kg 1. Moreover, the LIC demonstrates an
outstanding cycle retention of 93% after 78,000 cycles. Introduction
The growing market of heavy duty electrical vehicles has significantly increased the
demand for advanced energy storage systems that can deliver high power and energy
density and long cycle life.1 3 Although batteries have been successfully utilized in
Similarities Between Hutchinson And Familism
By late 1636, the controversy had deepened, and Hutchinson and her supporters
were accused of two heresies in the Puritan Church. This two were as follows
antinomianism and familism. The word antinomianism literally means against or
opposed to the law ; in a theological context, it means the moral law is not binding
upon Christians, who are under the law of grace. According to this view, if one
was under the law of grace, the moral law did not apply, allowing one to engage in
immoral acts. Familism was named for a 16th century sect called the Family of
Love, and it involved one s perfect union with God under the Holy Spirit, coupled
with freedom both from sin and from the responsibility for it. Hutchinson and her
supporters were sometimes

Machines Overcoming Humans
As one would begin to think, about how much technology we humans use daily,
they realize just how much we are in need of it. As people, look back in time over
the generations to where we no technology to whereas now almost everything you
come across you can find on the internet or on a system. When reading The Machine
Stops, it shows the reader just how naГЇve people are to how much technology they
use. People are so use to just having it that they do not even think about how much it
consumes their lives. As I have learned, in the past couple of months just how much
we humansare as a cyborg, made me just as gullible as people are to how much
technology consumes our lives. When first thinking about the concept of us humans
are as cybernetic organisms I was skeptical about the concept and did not believe we
were as cybernetic organisms. As looking to see what a cybernetic organism is, I
found they are a humanwho has certain biological developments assisted or

I began to think us humans are as cybernetic organisms. My first reading on the
thoughts of cyborg, was You Are Cyborg, written by Hari Kunzru, writing to Donna

who sees that Donna Haraway, is not saying that we humans are physically cyborgs
that are all mechanically made but that we are consumed by technology making us

Unit 13 P1:
Security:
Security protects organisation or properties from an individual without authorisation.
Security protects your computer from assault, theft and fraud etc. In business there
needs to be a document stating how the company can protect their information
technology and the company s material. This all needs to be written down. The
company s security policy is always updated because of the employee and
technology. There are many security threats on the internet, here are a few of them:
Identity theft:
Identity theft is when a criminal gets hold of your personal information. For example
bank account details.
Virus:
Virus is a code that attacks the network system and computer. This happens because
the data files are contaminated and this is done on a system through the internet or
disk. The virus tries to hid it self and send it self to others. The virus is harmful to
your computer.
Trojan:
Trojan is a virus that makes the user believe that it is good for their computer and this
virus is hard to remove this treat.
Trend analysis:
Trend analysis predicts the potential movements of a stock that is based on past
data. There are different types of charts that you can create. For instances you can
make a chart Traders get an idea of what might happen in the future, they get this
idea from what has happened before in the past. The three types of trends are long,
short, and intermediate term. Trend analysis is good because it does not go against

Reasons for United States Involvement in World War I
At first the public opinion of Americans was firmly set on neutrality. The majority of
people had little or no concerns of the affairs of the rest of the world why should
America interfere with the conflicts of other nations? Americans supported a policy
of isolationism, and Democrat Woodrow Wilsonwas re elected in 1916 on the
grounds that he had kept them out of the war. The president also knew only too well
that many Americans were unsympathetic towards Britain. There were German
Americans who routed for a German victory, whilst Irish Americans disliked British
rule over Ireland. On top of this, the Jewish Russians who had fled from the ... Show

Of the 1198 passengers who died, 128 of these were American. This aroused great
anger in Americans, and further attacks followed as in June the German government
announced passenger ships would be sunk without warning. The sinking of the
Lusitania was used in British propaganda to remind the US citizens of the lives that
had been lost due to Germany, hence they should join the war to defeat them.
The Germans decided to return to the policy of unrestricted submarine attacks on
shipping in January 1917. The Submarines were not able to sink well organised
military ships and this is probably why passenger ships were attacked. Diplomatic
relations between Germany and America were broken off by Wilson when and
American liner was sunk on 3 February. This act taken by Germany was a big gamble
to try to relieve the stalemate situation on the Western front, but this was an important
reason towards America becoming involved in the way.
That same month, Alfred Zimmerman sent orders to the German Ambassador in
Mexico to try to enlist support against the US. Mexico would be rewarded with the
opportunity to regain territory, supposedly theirs, which was now part of the US. The
note was intercepted by the British secret service, and when it published in March,
Americans were outraged and infuriated. This was another gamble, but far more
reckless. The stalemate had left their

USPS Synthesis Essay
If I were the current CEO for the United States Postal Service, I would be gravely
concerned about the future of my business, as it has recently taken a steep plummet
from its success and popularity in the 19th and 20th centuries. The USPS is now
faced with the decision to renovate itself due to the extreme loss of business as
technology takes over the 21st Century. Some say that the USPS should be entirely
reconstructed because the business is only headed further downhill, while others say
that paper mail is still very practical, more so than e mail, and we must each write
more letters to do our part in reviving the business to profitability again. Because the

Especially in urban cities buzzing with the latest technology, many would agree
that, you don t need a full service post office every few blocks in New York, for
example (Source A). In addition, I spend every summer with my dad in Chicago,
and because there is a USPS post office right around the corner of our apartment
building, I have noticed from passing it every day that it is the one store on State
Street that is empty 90 percent of the time. In my experience, Postmaster General
John Potter is correct in wanting to close and consolidate 154 post offices ,
significantly reducing operating costs and employment. Strategy is key; by shutting
down the offices with the lowest production and necessity, USPS will no longer be
uselessly spending money.
Another point the USPS should take into consideration when restructuring, is that it
is too easy for most Americans nowadays to forget the significance of a hand written
letter or card, when we can communicate within seconds through technology. Come to
think of it, I remember running to the mailbox in excitement every November to
collect a special, pink birthday card from my grandma with her messy cursive
scrawled across the envelope. Now, my special birthday wishes are in a 30 second
voicemail she leaves from her cell phone every year. The USPS must remind us of the
significant difference it can make in communication by recapturing its emotional
importance through advertising.

Is Pi A Better Predictor Of Social Creativity Than...
Multiple Intelligence (MI) theory (Gardner, 1983) has expanded the concept of
intelligence to include academic abilities (linguistic and logical mathematical) as well
as aptitudes/talents (kinesthetic, music, spatial, naturalist) and personal intelligences
(interpersonal and intrapersonal). Gardner used an inclusive definition of intelligence:
an ability or set of abilities that allows a person to solve a problem or fashion a
product that is valued in one or more cultures and it has direct applications to
instruction, curriculum design, and career counseling at all age levels (Armstrong,
2006; Campbell Campbell, 1999; Gardner, 1993).
In this research, we investigate Practical Intelligence (PI), Fluid Intelligence (FI)
and social creativity. The aim of our study is to explore the relationship between
these three concepts. More specifically, the main hypothesis that this study
explores is that PI is a better predictor of social creativity than classical intelligence,
measured by a Fluid Intelligence test. From an economic perspective, it is worth
mentioning that people with developed skills, acquired knowledge and sufficient
years of experience are more capable to find ways to solve problems that occur in
their everyday life and their workplace using their creativity. Thus, people with
developed practical intelligent skills could become an advantage for the industries
around economy. They also can be more productive and efficient comparing to people
that lack in PI. It

number of individuals that are incarcerated within that county? Every year data is
collected through the Annual Survey of Jails (AJS) that provides information on the
characteristics and make up of the Nation s jails and inmates housed in these jails.
The Offender Profile is another method of collection for the state of Missouri,

special cases and how other organisms benefit from the drowning of thousands of
wildebeests. In the article it states that, an average 6,000 wildebeests drown each
year in river crossing. Subalusky and her colleagues search to see how all that meat

Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl Summary
Reader it is not to awaken sympathy for myself that I am telling you truthfully what
I suffered. During the time of the slavery movement, the primary goal for writing
slave stories such as, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Property was to gain
some sort of sympathy within the white community and gain support to stop slavery.
As both of these narratives are written from the female perspective, the two stories
show the harsh reality and the ironic nature of sexual exploitation through language
and imagery. The two narratives revolve around many literary elements to help shape
the story along with similar story patterns that took place during the particular time
period. Within Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, the narrative is often interrupted
by the social and political aspects that occur and Property really focuses on the
personal relationships that go on between the slave owners and their slaves, in
particular the relationship between man and women and woman to woman. Each
literary element touches upon the topic of sexual exploitation. As the two cases of
how the narrators or characters experience sexual exploitation are different, the term
is still applicable. Within this essay I will shape the discussion around these four
literary elements: Foreshadowing, metaphor, irony and... Show more content on

The South is known to be the land of Christianity and rights. However, though the
Christian s attended church and prayed, they by no means treated their slaves with a
Christian attitude. This is very evident within Harriet Jacob s narrative as she speaks
of the mistreatment by the hypocritical Christians. In chapter 13, Linda exposes the
hypocrisy of the Christian church and how the slaves are expected to be obedient to
their masters according to the flesh . This concept seems a bit out of place as
religion has been dramatically
Division In The Kite Runner
The Kite Runner, a novel written by Khaled Hosseini, highlights multiple elements of
division in society through the troubled lives of Amir, a youthful Pashtun adolescent,
who is raised amongst a Hazara teen, Hassan, in a racially separated setting in
Afghanistan. Throughout the novel, the author shows how different divisions in
society can affect the course an individual s life takes. It also looks at how
Afghanistan s long past of racial estrangement makes it challenging to one s social
position in a culture such as Afghanistans. The social divisions in social class, family
types and personality which the youthful characters grow up in, are recurrently
acquired from their families and surrounding life figures. Such divisions affect the

It becomes common for them to form friendships with other children whom they
aren t necessarily meant to befriend. Through division in types of personalities
present in numerous characters in the book, Hosseini incorporates honest and
defenseless adolescents, who grow up with racist views around them. This often
leads the children to adopt such views into their own personalities. For the duration
of Hassan s life, his father was tormented by Pashtun individuals whilst also being
alluded to as a donkey (p. 75) by his partner. This lack of respect that exists inside
his family, leads to Hassan building up the conviction that in society, he matters
less than Pashtun people. His personality is altered because of this and as he
grows, he changes. This also exists amongst the opposing Pashtun youths, for
example, Amir, who grows up with Hazara workers. As he grows up, his mentality
alters to the thought that Hazara individuals are not to be befriended but are only
there to work. This adjusts his personality as his behavior towards them changes.
Sanaubar, Hassan s mother, went her whole life with her feelings being tortured
after cheating on her husband. On the contrary Amir s spouse, Soraya, did likewise,
yet was overlooked. From the day they were born Amir and Hassan possessed
unequal opportunities. Only Amir is permitted to attend school, and subsequently
builds up the attitude that Hassan never should have the opportunity to receive an
education. Amir is constantly ridiculing Hassan saying imbecile . it means smart,
intelligent. I ll use it in a sentence for you. When it comes to words, Hassan is an
imbecile. (p. 29). The personality of the individuals in the book are dependent on the
division they are born into. The differing personalities are a large feature that
determines the way in which the lives of the individuals in the book contrast each
other. Amir being a quieter

Finally, the last amendment that protects basic freedoms would be recognized as
the Fourth Amendment. This amendment placed restrictions on unlawful search
and seizures of American s property. Although these rights are subjected to all law
abiding citizens, a suspect of a crime is also granted additional civil liberties. These
civil liberties are sworn in by the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth
Amendment. The Fourth Amendment protects those accused of a criminal act
from unlawful searches and seizures. If a police officer has reasonable proof of
criminal activity they are not required to obtain a search warrant signed by a judge.
With this being said, if a suspect is found at guilt during a search and is throttled to
court they have the support of the Fifth Amendment. The Fifth Amendment is
documented as one of the elongated amendments in the Bill of Rights. This
amendment gives criminals a shield of potentially facing double jeopardy. As this
amendment may protect one from double jeopardy, it also gives felons the refusal
to testify due to the possibility of self incrimination. Criminals who are accused of
committing a crime shall receive the right to a swift and open trial that is guaranteed
by the Sixth Amendment. As criminals may potentially move to a trial, the Seventh
Amendment sets forth a regulation that a judge is prohibited to reconsider a
decision or questions previously decided by a jury. Before a case is accelerated to

Arthur Radebaugh s All-Seeing Eye Police Department
In the 20th century, one particular vision for the future that wowed audiences for
generations was the concept of a state of mass surveillance. This would be a society
in which members of the public could be watched at any given point in time. In
1960, an artist by the name of Arthur Radebaugh drew a comic that was reflective of
this theme. As it is aptly titled, the All Seeing Eye PoliceDepartment depicts police
officers at a futuristic precinct, as they monitor several screens showcasing live
closed circuit television(CCTV) camera footage (Novak). In the comic, the dispatch

By comparison, in Radebaugh s comic, the CCTV camera is the only highlighted
piece of technology used for surveillance. With respect to real world alternatives,
the wiretapping of phones was an approved police practice in the U.S. as of 1928
(Harris). With the use of CCTV cameras, the police usually have to wait for a
privately owned business to hand over their surveillance footage after a crime has
been committed. In contrast, with the use of wiretapping, police can adopt a more
proactive approach, as they can listen in on the phone conversations of suspicious
people, and they may be able to catch them before a crime even takes place.
Particularly, wiretapping is prevalent in U.S. narcotics cases. In 2010, a wiretap
was used in order to get a conviction for the Dominguez drug smuggling
organization, as two defendants in the case were recorded as they were clearly
arranging a cocaine deal (McCombs). The prosecutors were able to convict the drug
distributors only because the defendants made their intentions plainly obvious in the
recorded phone call. Meanwhile, Radebaugh s comic forgot to consider that while
CCTV cameras can be extremely useful, when using them it is very difficult to
identify the underlying criminal intent, as only the criminal act itself is on display.

must be present for a legally binding contract to take place. An offer is a clear

The position is confused in relation to contracts of carriage and contracts for the
sale of land. Automatic vending machines apparently make a mute offer that is
accepted by the purchaser inserting money or otherwise activating the machine.
Similarly, at automatic car parks the offer is made by the presence of the machine,
which offer is accepted by the customer driving the car to the entrance so as to
activate the machine that issues the ticket. Other ticket cases involve an offer by the
customer that is accepted by the issue of a ticket, which itself contains no
contractual terms (cinema or concert) or does contain writing but such writing is not
incorporated into the contract; or the ticket itself is the offer that is accepted by the
customer taking it without objecting to any of the terms contained in it. It has been
held that an invoice may amount to an offer that is accepted by the sending of a

printed terms are part of a contract. So long as they are available for inspection by
the customer before the contract is made, they are part of the
Essay On Colonists
In my opinion the colonist mainly rebelled against the different Acts put in place by
the government due to they did not want to be controlled. The people did not want
the government or anyone else telling them what to do or how to spend their money.
As in today s time we are used to taxes; however, no one likes change, especially one
enforced on you by the government taking away your liberalness.
The first act was the Sugar act, whereas the British officials taxed sugar from non
British colonies, as well as some other food and beverages (Schultz, n.d.). This act
as I stated above was mainly frowned upon due to the colonist were not used to
being forced to pay taxes. Next came the Quartering Act where the people were to
allow the British soldiers to sleep in their homes and feed them, this was to be paid
by the colonial assemblies. Or better known to us now as a group of officials within
the government like the House of Representatives or the Senate that make decisions

This act gave the British control of all tea sales in the colonies. In retaliation a
group of colonist disguised themselves and boarded ships carrying the British East
India Company s tea. This group proceeded to destroy 340 chest equitant to 92,000
pounds of the tea, by throwing it overboard. With this act, no new tax was added to
tea since this had already been taxed since the Townshend Acts. However, the control
of the product was going to be used to bail out the British East India Company. This
made the American colonist extremely angry, which led to the Boston Tea Party.
There were two more laws put in place after this and referred to as the Intolerable

Thank Bob Dylan With The Nobel Prize
December 20, 2016
Dear Nobel Prize committee,
The Nobel Prize for Literature is an outstanding prize that honors extraordinary
people for their works in literature. It honors people that have changed literature. On
October 13, 2016 you awarded Bob Dylan with the Nobel Prize in Literature. This
marks him as the first musician ever to win this prize. Many people agree with your
decision, while others are not delighted with this fact. I agree with the committee to
honoring Bob Dylan with the Nobel Prize in literature for having created new poetic
expressions within the great American song tradition.
Bob Dylan was born as Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941 in Duluth,
Minnesota. While growing up, Bob was influenced by Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee
Lewis, and Little Richard. He was also in a few bands while growing up. While he
was in college he began performing folk and country music at local cafes under the
name Bob Dillon. In 1960, he dropped out of college and moved to New York. In
New York, Bob met his idol Woody Guthrie and visited him regularly and became
great friends with him. In 1961, he signed his first recording contract at Columbia
Records and became one of the most original influential voices in the history of
American popular music. Throughout his lifetime he s been awarded with
Grammy s, Academy and Golden Globe awards. In 2012, he received the Presidential
Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama. Bob Dylan wrote music based on

Captain Marvel Research Paper
SHAZAM! The Story of Willie Batson.
Captain Marvel, also known as Shazam, is a fictional superhero appearing in
American comic books published by DC Comics. Artist C. C. Beck and writer Bill
Parker created the character in 1939. Captain Marvel first appeared in Whiz
Comics #2 (cover dated Feb. 1940), published by Fawcett Comics. He is the alter
ego of Billy Batson, a boy who, by speaking the magic word SHAZAM (acronym of
six immortal elders : Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and ercury), can
transform himself into a costumed adult with the powers of superhuman strength,
speed, flight and other abilities.
Based on book sales, the character was the most popular superhero of the 1940s,
outselling even Superman. Fawcett expanded the franchise to include other Marvels ,
primarily Marvel Family associates Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr., who can
harness Billy s powers as well. Captain Marvel was also the first comic book
superhero to be adapted into film, in a 1941 Republic Pictures serial titled

starts here, the inspiration for Captain Marvel came from a number of sources. His
visual appearance was modeled after that of Fred MacMurray, a popular American
actor of the period, though comparisons with both Cary Grant and Jack Oakie were
made as well. Fawcett Publications founder, Wilford H. Fawcett, was nicknamed
Captain Billy , which inspired the name Billy Batson as well as Marvel s title.
Fawcett s earliest magazine was titled Captain Billy s Whiz Bang, which inspired
the title Whiz Comics. In addition, Fawcett took several of the elements that had
made Superman the first popular comic book superhero (super strength and speed,
science fiction stories, a mild mannered reporter alter ego) and incorporated them
into Captain Marvel. Fawcett s circulation director Roscoe Kent Fawcett recalled
telling the staff, Give me a Superman, only have his other identity be a 10 or 12 year

documentary is particularly useful. In fact, the documentary while mostly accurate

those who want basic facts, but leaves some facts to assumptions and seems to gloss

Pirates, Galleons and Treasure also shows pirate stories being romanticised when they
speak about the relationship of Anne Bonny and Calico Jack.
Within the documentary, Anne Bonny and Calico Jack are shown to be lovers
and while that may be true it is still not confirmed. The documentary presents this
idea as a fact and even goes on to talk about Bonny being the mother of his child,
leaving out the fact that it is also speculated that Bonny had slept with her jailors
so it is not confirmed that it is his child (Konstam, 2011, p.166). Bonny s father is
said to have had a possible role in her escape (Konstam, 2011, p.185), instead of the
claim that no one knows at all where she could have gone in the documentary. Also
in the video, Calico Jack is said to be responsible for designing the skull and cross
bone flag (Pirates, Galleons and Treasure, 2007), when the flag had been first been
spotted in 1700 by a pirate named Wyn way before Calico Jack (The Golden Age,
2016) and the only pirate to be known to fly a true skull and cross bone flag is
Edward England (Konstam, 2011, p.193). Essentially, Pirates, Galleons and Treasures

pirates they talk about. This documentary seems to portray pirates in a positive

Anti Intellectualism and society s overall decline Anti intellectualism is an attitude
that minimizes the value of intelligence, knowledge and curiosity. The death of
thinking and anti intellectualism is becoming a trend in American culture. The
reason for this behavior is due to the ignorance of science, arts, and society and it s
replacement by entertainment and ignorance. Wanting to learn new things isn t much
of a trend and never was. Anti intellectualism has became a tradition in America,
unlike many other countries. Richard Hofstadter, Pulitzer Prize winner in 1964 for

exceedingly reliant upon one another for survival and less reliant on their own skills
and intelligence. When this came about, natural selection took its toll allowing
generations to adjust to this change. Not long after this, Mutations were generated

average, each human being has two mutations that work against their intelligence
which is eroding our intellectual and emotion capabilities . In other words, humans

The story of A Christmas Carol is set in Charles Dickens home town of London. In
the Victorian period Londoners were split in two categories, the rich and poor and
the streets were filled with diseases and many poor children died at young ages.
There were many big families who had small but affordable meals throughout the

The Russian Mob: Organized Crime in a Fledgling Democracy
Since the late 1980 s the Russian people have experienced one of the most drastic
transitions seen in the world to date, a transition from an attempt at communism to a
workable capitalist system. As one would expect, this transition has not been painless
and has been the impetus of many distressing problems for the Russian people. One
such problem is organized crime. This paper will explore how organized crime during
Soviet rule and the Russian Federation has created obstacles in this transition to a
functioning market economy. It will illustrate how organized crime has done this by
analyzing its transition from the USSR to the Russian Federation, the reasons behind

This expansion was aided by perestroika s opening up of market opportunities. In
Leningrad, as much as 90% of the cooperatives produced by the liberal policies of
perestroika were deeply involved with organized crime (Anderson, 1995, 352). The
extensiveness of organized crime in the USSR is quite apparent when one examines
such numbers, but the more important question is what was inherent in the USSR
that facilitated such crime and how this later affected organized crime in the Russian
Federation.
Two characteristics of the USSR were integral in the development of a powerful
organized crime syndicate. These were an excessive bureaucratic power and the
presence of illegal markets (Anderson, 1995, 347). This excessive bureaucratic
power facilitated organized crime by providing a basis for corruption, bribery,
shakedowns, and extortion (Anderson, 1995, 346). These were no small problems
either. According to the All Union Research Institute of the Soviet Interior Ministry
in 1991, about half of the income of the average government employee consisted of
bribes (Sterling, 1994, 93). However, the presence of illegal markets was even more
essential to the existence of a mafia in the USSR. Everyone is aware that illegal
markets such as alcohol during the prohibition period or drugs today elicit organized
crime, yet this association was unique in the USSR. In the USSR, every form of
economic transaction that did not involve the government

The correlation between the bold flavor with low calories and the manliness ensued

Should Seaworld Be Allowed In Captivity Essay
Should SeaWorld be allowed to Keep Killer Whales in Captivity? It was a normal

trainer was scalped, dismembered, her bones where crushed, and she was
ultimately drowned by the massive whale known as Tilikum. This was a day that

this horrific incident Tilikum was kept in a tank for a year that was so small that it

Loyalty Of Loyalty And Loyalty
Loyalty
Loyalty is something I take very seriously, because loyalty is everything, whether it s
a friendship, relationship or just trusting someone. Putting your trust in someone and
being loyal to them is something that is hard to come by.
The way I was brought up and the things that were taught to me are the things that
built me to be the genuine, loyal and honest person I am today. Sometimes in life
things get hard and you turn to others to talk to , vent to or rely on for comfort, but
sometimes you have to be careful who you talk to and share information with
because you never know who is trying to kick you when you are down. That s
where you have to take a look at your surroundings and ask yourself if the people
you associate with and talk to be the people you can trust with your business. This is
where the loyalty comes in, when you trust someone you have your guard down and
I ve experienced this first hand and if they are people you trust you should never
worry about hearing your business from others.
There came a time when I found myself alone and going through some tough things
and I leaned on the people I could trust, or so I thought. I had just started my
freshman year and I had two best friends that I was close with, Tory and Gabby. I
trusted them with anything they had my back and I had theirs. Two weeks after
school had started back up Tory had been talking to someone and had been telling all
my business about my personal problems. I thought I could trust

believes what when it comes to music artists all over the world. There are some
artists who are known to be Christian music artists. It can be easy to tell what they
believe. However, for many other artists in the world today, it can be difficult to
identify what they believe in. There are an enormous number of categories that
music artists can fall into today. An artist could be in the category of country, pop,
hip hop, rap, or even something as strange as reggae. To be successful in this industry
can be extremely difficult. It is a constant struggle for artists to maintain a successful

Coronary Artery Diseases
INTRODUCTION
Coronary artery diseases (CAD) as a kind of cardiovascular diseases are considered to
be the major causes of morbidity and mortality in type 2 diabetic patients (Buse JB

Diabetic patients frequently present various risk factors for CAD, including

Glycaemic disorders in particular are the most important component of these risk

A Case Law Study Of Larry And Rodger
Introduction
It is a normal scenario for a person to rent a property, such a house for a given
period. While this might seem to be a simple process, it should be understood that
any time a tenant enters into a deal with the landlord, there is always a set of laws
and regulations that define their tenant landlord relationship. The tenant landlord
rights, obligations and responsibilities are outlined in landlord and tenant law,
whereby every important aspect of the tenancy agreement is stated. This paper will

Some of his /her rights are; receiving the rent agreed upon, as well as implementing
all the agreements in which the tenant agreed upon. The property owner has the right
to have the possession of the property or premises, upon the expiration of the lease.
He or she has the right to expect/require the tenant to handle the rented premises in a
manner that would not destroy the property. Some of the landlord s responsibilities
or regulations include; ensuring that he or she abides to all the agreements that they
both entered or agreed on. To offer security and ensure the tenant is safe from
disturbances and evictions by strangers. The landlord is also bounded by his or her
express covenant to refurbish and maintain the property, unless he or she agreed with
the tenant not to be responsible for such occurrences (Brown et al. 2015).
A landlord usually enters into an agreement with the tenant. A tenant refers to the
one who pays the rent to occupy or use a building or a premise owned by the
landlord. Just like the landlord, a tenant enjoys a number of rights and
responsibilities. For example, some of the tenants rights are as follows; the
commercial right to pay for a comfortable property. A tenant has the residential right
to be aware of the terms of the tenancy. He or she has the right to reasonably fast and
effective repairs if they report any damage. A tenant also has the right to safe
accommodation and ensuring that all the provided items meet
The Inequality Of The American Dream
The American Dream is the idea that any American can raise their socioeconomic
status through hard work . However, for many Americans, that dream has become
impossible. Due to economic hardship, many Americans are struggling to simply
provide food for their families. Upward mobility seems elusive. Despite the fact that
some believe the American Dream is still a reality, due to poor education,
unemployment, economic downturn, and economic inequality the American Dream
has become unattainable for most lower and middle class Americans. America has a
massive wealth gap. According to Chris Matthews at Fortune, in America, the
wealthiest 160,000 families own as much wealth as the poorest 145 million families.
Those rich families can afford to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Simply put, college graduates are having a hard time finding jobs, and without a
well paying job it is impossible to raise one s economic status in America. When an
American graduates from college, there is a good chance that they will not be able to
find employment. This is no surprise, since the Great Recession and its aftermath is
the longest, most severe period of economic weakness in more than seven decades
(Davis, Gould, and Kimball). Economic downturn means fewer available jobs,
especially for those who are just entering the market, as most graduates are. According
to the Economic Policy Institute, the unemployment rate for college graduates is 7.2
percent and the underemployment rate (the unemployment rate combined with the
rate of people currently employed part time but seeking full time work) is 14.9
percent. Due to the poor economic situation in America, many graduates are unable to
take the two main paths receiving further education or getting more work experience
that enable future career success (Davis, Gould, and Kimball). How are young
Americans to attain the American Dream without a successful
A Critical Incident At University
During this essay I will be reflecting on critical incidents and their impact in order
to develop as a healthcare professional. Using the Gibbs cycle I will describe the
situation, how it made me feel, analyse what happened, evaluate the incident,
before finally concluding and devising an action plan for the future (Jasper, 2015).
I hope by reflecting on these incidents and my strengths and weaknesses it will
support my goal of becoming a holistic healthcare professional. The first critical
incident at university happened during semester one. I decided to submit my
assignment at the end of the day as I wanted to review it before final submission.
At 1pm I went to library to submit my work and was shocked to see the turnitin
software wouldn t let me submit. As I investigated further, I realised that the
deadline was at 12pm. I immediately ran to my personal tutor and assessor s office
to ask for advice and forgiveness. Sadly, it had to be handed in as a late
submission. I was really upset, but my personal tutor told me to calm down as
there was nothing that could be done now. I had previously had some feedback one
month prior to the deadline and felt rather foolish as I had finished the leaflet
approximately 2 weeks prior to the incident. It was a real disappointing,
embarrassing moment, which made me feel down on the last day of term. It took
me a few days to get over it. I assumed the deadline was at 5pm, as was case in my
previous college but agreed with the module
Risks of Teenagers Obtaining a Driver s Licence
Most teens look forward to getting a driver s license. But that may change if they
know that they have a much higher risk of having a motor accident than adult
drivers. In the United States, driving accidents are a leading cause of death among
teenagers. These accidents happen mostly in populated cities. This problem has
caused each state to have its own drivinglaws for teens. Although this problem is
already a priority in many states, it should get more attention from the general public,
especially teens. It is important for people to know about driving laws because these
laws can help establish safe driving habits. California laws that attempt to decrease
teen caused auto accidentsinclude establishing a minimum age for passengers of
teenage drivers. In California, a new driver cannot transport anyone who is under
20 years of age unless a licensed adult is also in the vehicle. Another effective law
in California requires teen drivers to have at least 50 hours of supervised driving
during the learner s permit stage. This law is effective because it allows teens to
learn how to drive safely on the road with the help of an experienced driver.
Although some laws are effective, teens are still known to cause accidents. Therefore,
a solution should be proposed to the state governments that will call for a law that
requires teens to take an annual mandatory driving testfor a certain number of years
after obtaining a license.
Existing Driving Laws Fail to Ensure Safety As
Analysis Of Billy Joel s Hit Song We Didn t Start The...
In Billy Joel s hit song, We Didn t Start The Fire , he sings about the major
headlines and influences on his generation. If you compare these allusions to the
headlines today, you ll see that our society s issues and interests haven t changed
much. Political scandals, the race to space, pop culture, and best selling novels; all
crucial to the shaping of our society. Even though the 60 s and today s world are
decades apart, there are many similarities between society then and society now that
suggest the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Since the first person rose to fame, the public has been obsessed with celebrity
scandals. That s why when a politician is surrounded amongst accusations and
embarrassment, it hits the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While this is not illegal, it s an issue because she has put classified information at a
greater risk than it needed to be, due to the fact it is much easier to hack into her
private server than it is to hack into the government server, and we don t know who
else was receiving the information she was sent. Given this information, Americans
have to decide for themselves whether or not she actually did something wrong, and
whether or not we can trust her as the next president of the United States. No mater
who you have in a government position, and no matter what country you re in, there
will always be a scandal to talk about because even if you are someone held to the
highest of standards, you are still prone to making poor decisions.
One of the most important steps mankind has ever made is space exploration. On
February 20th, 1962, John Glenn became the first person to orbit the earth. This was
a major redemption for the U.S, since just a year before Yuri Gagarin from Russia
became the first man to go to space. Glenn s accomplishment threw America ahead in
the famous Space Race with the U.S.S.R. Recently, NASA announced that they plan
on having a manned mission to Mars by 2035. However, there s a lot of
competition. Quite a few nonprofit and for profit organizations believe they can get
people to Mars sooner and cheaper than NASA. If NASA is the first organization to

Heritgae Museum Innovation
The Impact of Innovation on Heritgae Museum s identities
Sophia Borissenko, 126127973, sbor758@aucklanduni.co.nz
The purpose of this study is to define and examine the range design requirements for a
variety of case studies on heritage museums with modern intervention, each of which
has a different type: internal intervention, addition or integration. In doing so, an
analysis of the impact of the case by case design requirements that the innovation has
on the building s idenity can be made. Furthermore, the literature review will
highlight the fact that there are similarities and differences while finally considering
the notion that comparisons and commendalities could be made and will be further
explored.

The aim was to preserve the architectural integrity of the ex isting building (Stott,
2014). The proposed design hides underground beneath the existing footprint of the
museum, which acts as a landmark for the ar chitecturally conservative city. Ashley
Hahn says, the expansion is by excavation, and removing ob structions inserted into
the museum s original de sign, which allow for major improvements to light,
circulation, and exhibition space. These are the main design requirements of which
the project is based. In other areas, Gehry added simple sand stone clad stair
enclosures to accommodate mod ern safety regulations (Hahn, 2014). He began by
studying the DNA of the building. He then looked at the significant assets that the
original architects provided to create a strong entry sequence and cir culation pattern.
The aim of this is to connect the new to the old giving the impression that the mu

Summary Of Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl
Introduction Incidents in the life of a slave girl written by Harriet Jacobs and
published by L.Maria Child (in 1831), is an autobiography by the author herself
which documents Jacobs life as a slave and therefore The book starts when Jacobs
is born as a slave in a city of North Carolina and then continues through her escape,
her status as a runaway fugitive in the North, and finally her path to freedom when
one of her northern white friends buys her in the year 1852. Incidents in the Life of

her purposes behind composing her life account. Her story is difficult, and she would

Jacobs autobiography which is known by the name of Incidents in a Life of a
Slave Girl gave a true account of the treatment that black women faced during that
time and also throwing some light on a perception which has been kept in shadows
from the society. While writing the story of her life, Jacobs mainly focused on her
defeat due to obstacles like race and gender, gave voice to something which was
hidden from society regardless of the presence of patriarchal society of the
nineteenth century. I do earnestly desire to arouse the women of the North to a
realizing sense of the condition of two millions of women at the South, still in
bondage, suffering what I suffered, and most of them far worse. ( By this she s
trying to enlighten the women who were going through the same phase that she
experienced during that time. She also terms it as her dark period.) After a quick
escape from her master s house ,she is taken by a white woman who then helps in
getting her freedom till the book ends. The white woman is self righteous, domestic
and as Linda quotes her as pure . As the story continues , we see that Linda is
caught twice by this master but the white woman defends her and do not lets Dr.
Flint to take Linda away with him. According to others, a true white woman should
never help a black woman especially if its regarding their escape from their master s
house. Not even that but also ,she should not favour a woman if its about
Pros And Cons Of Federalism
Federalism is the separation of prevailing powers between the national government
and the state government. Proposing that the states could not over power the national
government and the national government could not over power the state government.
Due to the former existence of the states, federalism was created to protect the states
and was a required settlement. The states already had their own governmental past
dating back to the colonial era where they previously had their own constitutions. The
framers believed that they created a well thought out system that they believed would
prevent threats to individual liberty and controlling the power of government
(Patterson, pp. 64 67). Federalismhad the greatest dispute that it would resolve the
imperfections in the Articles of Confederation. Those defects included: the national
government had neither the power to tax nor the power to regulate commerce among
the states resulting in the government lacking in funds to maintain a strong enough
army. Then without commerce, the national government could neither promote the
general economy nor prevent trade wars between the states (Patterson, pp. 65). An
example would include, the states have the control over public education and the
police protection and the national government is responsible for national decisions,
such as military defense and the currency. Together, the national and state
governments, for example, have the power to borrow money and raise taxes. This is
known

Taking A Stand Essay. How to Write A Narrative Essay - Taking A Stand - YouTube

  • 1. Taking A Stand Essay Writing an essay on the topic of "Taking A Stand" can be a challenging task that requires careful consideration and a thoughtful approach. The difficulty lies in the need to articulate a clear stance on a particular issue while providing well-reasoned arguments to support that position. Firstly, selecting a topic that resonates with you and is significant enough to warrant a stand is crucial. Once the topic is chosen, the writer must delve into extensive research to gather relevant information, statistics, and examples to strengthen their position. This phase demands time and effort to ensure that the arguments presented are well-informed and persuasive. Crafting a thesis statement that succinctly captures the essence of your stand is another challenging aspect. This statement sets the tone for the entire essay and must be carefully formulated to convey the main point effectively. Additionally, maintaining coherence and logical flow throughout the essay requires strategic organization of ideas and arguments. Furthermore, addressing counterarguments and providing counter-evidence is an essential part of the essay. This demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the topic and enhances the credibility of the writer's position. Balancing the presentation of one's stance with an acknowledgment of opposing viewpoints requires a nuanced and diplomatic approach. Finally, concluding the essay in a manner that leaves a lasting impression on the reader while summarizing the main points is vital. The conclusion should reinforce the significance of the stand taken and leave the reader with something to ponder. In conclusion, writing a "Taking A Stand" essay involves a multifaceted process that requires research, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. It demands a balance between passion and objectivity, as well as the ability to navigate the complexities of the chosen topic. While challenging, the process of crafting such an essay can be immensely rewarding, providing a platform to express one's beliefs and contribute to important conversations. • 2. Science and Religion Essay Science and religion have always collided. Science is based on observation and what we can prove. Religion on the other hand makes arguments analytical in nature and requires faith. The basis though may not seem similar. A scientist might call this as the order in the universe or the Energy, which is transmitted in the world we live in. Religions like to look this ultimate reality as God. This entity is capable of setting an order in the universeand is nothing but what religiondefines as God. Science and Religion then appear to be tied up like two versions of the same subject. What major affects does science have on religion in the past two centuries? From Isaac Newton, who discovered gravity, Thomas Edison who invented to light... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All these affect religion and who believes it and to what extent we as people actually believe. In today s society people want to be able to grasp, to hold it, and even just feel it. So how do some people believe in God, we are not able to see him, hold him, let alone hear him? So how can we actually believe in something that is not there? Now you see this is how science draws us away from our beliefs. Science says that, seeing is believing. Meaning that if u can see something then you can believe in it. We are not able to see him. But his existence could be debated using knowledge based on what we see around us. For instance when we throw coins on a table, these coins will stop and arrange themselves on the table. What made the coins be in the order we see them after they have been thrown? Maybe it was the cause of Newton s Laws. But then again this order as proposed by Science implies an order setter. Is this God, a human like, yet unseen being? Are his features well defined? How do we describe the qualities of such a being? If He is perfect, his features are the highest level of moral standards, then we can say that him and is followers are beyond our understanding. We might say that he is wise, he knows all, and he is merciful and powerful. But these just limits how we express things not described by our won language. It is possible we might not have

Then these changes had eventually became noticed by the governing power, and on the january 16 the 18 amendment prohibition came in and that the law have forbidden the country to stop any sort of manufacture, transport, and sale of alcohol. Soon the mob and gangsters take the advantage of this new prohibition and start to smuggling and bootlegging alcohols. Alcohol are smuggled in from mainly two places Mexico and Canada, and each year Canada roughly export a million gallons of alcohol to US. Soon the mob and gangster s little business is getting quite profitable. Smuggling was not enough for them the Bootleggers started to make their own
  • 4. Use Of Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood In Cold Blood Response At this point in the book, the killers, Dick and Perry, are on the run. Detective Dewey is struggling to find clues. He thinks that there may have been more than one killer. Dewey is also having trouble finding a motive, as he tries to reimagine the crime. One literary device that Capote utilizes is imagery. It is most noticeable when he describes the atmosphere of the town after the murder. Imagination, of course, can open any door turn the key and let terror walk right in. Ever since the murder, the people of Holcomb have been imagining the worse. Capote puts it perfectly as he describes the town that the hunters see when they first arrive from Colorado: windows ablaze, almost every window in almost every house,

TUltrahigh power lithium ion capacitor using lithiated silicon oxycarbide and snake fruit rinds activated carbon†*a,b In this study, we report reports an approach to form an exceptionally high power lithium ion capacitor (LIC) using environmentally friendly lithiated silicone oxycarbide (SiOC) material derived from phenyl rich silicone oil as the anode and activated carbon via KOH activation of snake fruit rinds (SKOH) as the cathode. A battery type SiOC anode exhibited an incredibly high rate capability in which one third of its initial capacity was maintained even after the discharge current density increased up to 1,600 fold (from 0.05 to 80 A g 1). Moreover, the SKOH cathode demonstrated a massive surface area of 2,638 m2 g 1 promoting a remarkably high capacitance. When coupled to lihtium metal in a cell, the maximum power density of SKOH in LIC was 7.4 Г— 106 W kg 1 at a current density of 103 W h kg 1 (a loading mass of c.a. 4 mg cm 2). The optimized lithiated SiOC anode and SKOH cathode were paired in an LIC cell, providing a maximum power density of 156,000 W h kg 1 at an energy density of 25 W h kg 1. Moreover, the LIC demonstrates an outstanding cycle retention of 93% after 78,000 cycles. Introduction The growing market of heavy duty electrical vehicles has significantly increased the demand for advanced energy storage systems that can deliver high power and energy density and long cycle life.1 3 Although batteries have been successfully utilized in
  • 6. Similarities Between Hutchinson And Familism By late 1636, the controversy had deepened, and Hutchinson and her supporters were accused of two heresies in the Puritan Church. This two were as follows antinomianism and familism. The word antinomianism literally means against or opposed to the law ; in a theological context, it means the moral law is not binding upon Christians, who are under the law of grace. According to this view, if one was under the law of grace, the moral law did not apply, allowing one to engage in immoral acts. Familism was named for a 16th century sect called the Family of Love, and it involved one s perfect union with God under the Holy Spirit, coupled with freedom both from sin and from the responsibility for it. Hutchinson and her supporters were sometimes

It is recommended to flush the dental unit waterlines at the beginning of each day for several minutes. Also, flushing the lines in between patients for 20 30 seconds will reduce the number of bacteria in the DUWL. Although this may be a temporary reduction and the bacterial growth will proliferate quickly, the decrease in bacterial count warrants this (Slonczewski 2012). Basically, flushing the DUWL is imperative to limit bacterial

As people, look back in time over the generations to where we no technology to whereas now almost everything you come across you can find on the internet or on a system. When reading The Machine Stops, it shows the reader just how naГЇve people are to how much technology they use. People are so use to just having it that they do not even think about how much it consumes their lives. As I have learned, in the past couple of months just how much we humansare as a cyborg, made me just as gullible as people are to how much technology consumes our lives. When first thinking about the concept of us humans are as cybernetic organisms I was skeptical about the concept and did not believe we were as cybernetic organisms. As looking to see what a cybernetic organism is, I found they are a humanwho has certain biological developments assisted or controlled by mechanical or electronic devices. When learning that was the meaning I began to think us humans are as cybernetic organisms. My first reading on the thoughts of cyborg, was You Are Cyborg, written by Hari Kunzru, writing to Donna Haraway who does believe we humans are cyborgs. As one reads You Are Cyborg, who sees that Donna Haraway, is not saying that we humans are physically cyborgs that are all mechanically made but that we are consumed by technology making us cybernetic organisms. The majority of people had little or no concerns of the affairs of the rest of the world why should America interfere with the conflicts of other nations? Americans supported a policy of isolationism, and Democrat Woodrow Wilsonwas re elected in 1916 on the grounds that he had kept them out of the war. This aroused great anger in Americans, and further attacks followed as in June the German government announced passenger ships would be sunk without warning. The sinking of the Lusitania was used in British propaganda to remind the US citizens of the lives that had been lost due to Germany, hence they should join the war to defeat them. The Germans decided to return to the policy of unrestricted submarine attacks on shipping in January 1917. The Submarines were not able to sink well organised military ships and this is probably why passenger ships were attacked. Diplomatic relations between Germany and America were broken off by Wilson when and American liner was sunk on 3 February. This act taken by Germany was a big gamble to try to relieve the stalemate situation on the Western front, but this was an important reason towards America becoming involved in the way. That same month, Alfred Zimmerman sent orders to the German Ambassador in Mexico to try to enlist support against the US. Mexico would be rewarded with the opportunity to regain territory, supposedly theirs, which was now part of the US. The note was intercepted by the British secret service, and when it published in March, Americans were outraged and infuriated. This was another gamble, but far more reckless. The stalemate had left their

Usps Synthesis Paper USPS Synthesis Essay If I were the current CEO for the United States Postal Service, I would be gravely concerned about the future of my business, as it has recently taken a steep plummet from its success and popularity in the 19th and 20th centuries. The USPS is now faced with the decision to renovate itself due to the extreme loss of business as technology takes over the 21st Century. Some say that the USPS should be entirely reconstructed because the business is only headed further downhill, while others say that paper mail is still very practical, more so than e mail, and we must each write more letters to do our part in reviving the business to profitability again. Especially in urban cities buzzing with the latest technology, many would agree that, you don t need a full service post office every few blocks in New York, for example (Source A). In addition, I spend every summer with my dad in Chicago, and because there is a USPS post office right around the corner of our apartment building, I have noticed from passing it every day that it is the one store on State Street that is empty 90 percent of the time. In my experience, Postmaster General John Potter is correct in wanting to close and consolidate 154 post offices , significantly reducing operating costs and employment. Strategy is key; by shutting down the offices with the lowest production and necessity, USPS will no longer be uselessly spending money. Another point the USPS should take into consideration when restructuring, is that it is too easy for most Americans nowadays to forget the significance of a hand written letter or card, when we can communicate within seconds through technology. Come to think of it, I remember running to the mailbox in excitement every November to collect a special, pink birthday card from my grandma with her messy cursive scrawled across the envelope. Now, my special birthday wishes are in a 30 second voicemail she leaves from her cell phone every year. The USPS must remind us of the significant difference it can make in communication by recapturing its emotional importance through advertising.

Multiple Intelligence (MI) theory (Gardner, 1983) has expanded the concept of intelligence to include academic abilities (linguistic and logical mathematical) as well as aptitudes/talents (kinesthetic, music, spatial, naturalist) and personal intelligences (interpersonal and intrapersonal). Gardner used an inclusive definition of intelligence: an ability or set of abilities that allows a person to solve a problem or fashion a product that is valued in one or more cultures and it has direct applications to instruction, curriculum design, and career counseling at all age levels (Armstrong, 2006; Campbell Campbell, 1999; Gardner, 1993). In this research, we investigate Practical Intelligence (PI), Fluid Intelligence (FI) and social creativity. The aim of our study is to explore the relationship between these three concepts. More specifically, the main hypothesis that this study explores is that PI is a better predictor of social creativity than classical intelligence, measured by a Fluid Intelligence test. From an economic perspective, it is worth mentioning that people with developed skills, acquired knowledge and sufficient years of experience are more capable to find ways to solve problems that occur in their everyday life and their workplace using their creativity. Thus, people with developed practical intelligent skills could become an advantage for the industries around economy. They also can be more productive and efficient comparing to people that lack in PI. It

During the time of the slavery movement, the primary goal for writing slave stories such as, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Property was to gain some sort of sympathy within the white community and gain support to stop slavery. As both of these narratives are written from the female perspective, the two stories show the harsh reality and the ironic nature of sexual exploitation through language and imagery. The two narratives revolve around many literary elements to help shape the story along with similar story patterns that took place during the particular time period. Within Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, the narrative is often interrupted by the social and political aspects that occur and Property really focuses on the personal relationships that go on between the slave owners and their slaves, in particular the relationship between man and women and woman to woman. Each literary element touches upon the topic of sexual exploitation. As the two cases of how the narrators or characters experience sexual exploitation are different, the term is still applicable. Throughout the novel, the author shows how different divisions in society can affect the course an individual s life takes. It also looks at how Afghanistan s long past of racial estrangement makes it challenging to one s social position in a culture such as Afghanistans. Through division in types of personalities present in numerous characters in the book, Hosseini incorporates honest and defenseless adolescents, who grow up with racist views around them. This often leads the children to adopt such views into their own personalities. For the duration of Hassan s life, his father was tormented by Pashtun individuals whilst also being alluded to as a donkey (p. 75) by his partner. This lack of respect that exists inside his family, leads to Hassan building up the conviction that in society, he matters less than Pashtun people. His personality is altered because of this and as he grows, he changes. This also exists amongst the opposing Pashtun youths, for example, Amir, who grows up with Hazara workers. As he grows up, his mentality alters to the thought that Hazara individuals are not to be befriended but are only there to work. This adjusts his personality as his behavior towards them changes. Sanaubar, Hassan s mother, went her whole life with her feelings being tortured after cheating on her husband. On the contrary Amir s spouse, Soraya, did likewise, yet was overlooked. From the day they were born Amir and Hassan possessed unequal opportunities. Arthur Radebaugh s All-Seeing Eye Police Department In the 20th century, one particular vision for the future that wowed audiences for generations was the concept of a state of mass surveillance. This would be a society in which members of the public could be watched at any given point in time. In 1960, an artist by the name of Arthur Radebaugh drew a comic that was reflective of this theme. As it is aptly titled, the All Seeing Eye PoliceDepartment depicts police officers at a futuristic precinct, as they monitor several screens showcasing live closed circuit television(CCTV) camera footage (Novak). With respect to real world alternatives, the wiretapping of phones was an approved police practice in the U.S. as of 1928 (Harris). With the use of CCTV cameras, the police usually have to wait for a privately owned business to hand over their surveillance footage after a crime has been committed. In contrast, with the use of wiretapping, police can adopt a more proactive approach, as they can listen in on the phone conversations of suspicious people, and they may be able to catch them before a crime even takes place. Particularly, wiretapping is prevalent in U.S. narcotics cases. In 2010, a wiretap was used in order to get a conviction for the Dominguez drug smuggling organization, as two defendants in the case were recorded as they were clearly arranging a cocaine deal (McCombs). The prosecutors were able to convict the drug distributors only because the defendants made their intentions plainly obvious in the recorded phone call. Meanwhile, Radebaugh s comic forgot to consider that while CCTV cameras can be extremely useful, when using them it is very difficult to identify the underlying criminal intent, as only the criminal act itself is on display. Bob Dylan was born as Robert Allen Zimmerman on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota. While growing up, Bob was influenced by Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Little Richard. He was also in a few bands while growing up. While he was in college he began performing folk and country music at local cafes under the name Bob Dillon. In 1960, he dropped out of college and moved to New York. In New York, Bob met his idol Woody Guthrie and visited him regularly and became great friends with him. Two characteristics of the USSR were integral in the development of a powerful organized crime syndicate. These were an excessive bureaucratic power and the presence of illegal markets (Anderson, 1995, 347). One person who has mastered the music industry is Kanye West. Kanye has proven to be one of the best at what he does. He is an entertainer as well as a rap artist. He has a style of rap that some would consider peculiar and others would consider intriguing. Kanye is one of the artists who make it difficult to identify his worldview. This will be an analysis of Kanye West s song Jesus Walks to show his worldview based on some of the worldview questions James Sire proposes. The first question to answer from the song is, What is prime reality ? (Sire) In an article about Kanye West s song called Religion, music and the question of social justice in selected African American singers it says, The song uses the archetypal image of God and Jesus representing the righteous

Coronary Artery Diseases INTRODUCTION Coronary artery diseases (CAD) as a kind of cardiovascular diseases are considered to be the major causes of morbidity and mortality in type 2 diabetic patients (Buse JB et al, 2007) (Stolar MW Chilton RJ, 2003). Diabetic patients frequently present various risk factors for CAD, including hyperglycemia, fluctuation of blood glucose levels, obesity, hyperlipidemia and hypertension etc (Stolar MW Chilton RJ, 2003). Glycaemic disorders in particular are the most important component of these risk factors. Objective 1)To assess glycaemic variability (FBS,RBS and HBA1C) in adults with type2 DM. 2)To assess interday variability of serum glucose,by calculatingthe SD of the fasting blood glucose concentration ,mean of daily differences(MODD) using hourly blood samples taken over 24 hours, and it is correlation with severity of coronary artery disease as indicating by angiographic finding ,using Gensini score in diabetic patients, the angiography will be performing on the same day of taking blood sugar
  • 40. A Case Law Study Of Larry And Rodger Introduction It is a normal scenario for a person to rent a property, such a house for a given period. While this might seem to be a simple process, it should be understood that any time a tenant enters into a deal with the landlord, there is always a set of laws and regulations that define their tenant landlord relationship. The tenant landlord rights, obligations and responsibilities are outlined in landlord and tenant law, whereby every important aspect of the tenancy agreement is stated. This paper will focus on a case law study of Larry and Rodger, focusing on their legal rights and responsibilities as a landlord and tenant respectively, but from the perspective of a mediator. Some of his /her rights are; receiving the rent agreed upon, as well as implementing all the agreements in which the tenant agreed upon. The property owner has the right to have the possession of the property or premises, upon the expiration of the lease. He or she has the right to expect/require the tenant to handle the rented premises in a manner that would not destroy the property. Some of the landlord s responsibilities or regulations include; ensuring that he or she abides to all the agreements that they both entered or agreed on. To offer security and ensure the tenant is safe from disturbances and evictions by strangers. The landlord is also bounded by his or her express covenant to refurbish and maintain the property, unless he or she agreed with the tenant not to be responsible for such occurrences (Brown et al. 2015). A landlord usually enters into an agreement with the tenant. A tenant refers to the one who pays the rent to occupy or use a building or a premise owned by the landlord. Just like the landlord, a tenant enjoys a number of rights and responsibilities. For example, some of the tenants rights are as follows; the commercial right to pay for a comfortable property. A tenant has the residential right to be aware of the terms of the tenancy. He or she has the right to reasonably fast and effective repairs if they report any damage. A tenant also has the right to safe accommodation and ensuring that all the provided items meet

However, for many Americans, that dream has become impossible. Due to economic hardship, many Americans are struggling to simply provide food for their families. Upward mobility seems elusive. Despite the fact that some believe the American Dream is still a reality, due to poor education, unemployment, economic downturn, and economic inequality the American Dream has become unattainable for most lower and middle class Americans. America has a massive wealth gap. According to Chris Matthews at Fortune, in America, the wealthiest 160,000 families own as much wealth as the poorest 145 million families. Simply put, college graduates are having a hard time finding jobs, and without a well paying job it is impossible to raise one s economic status in America. When an American graduates from college, there is a good chance that they will not be able to find employment. This is no surprise, since the Great Recession and its aftermath is the longest, most severe period of economic weakness in more than seven decades (Davis, Gould, and Kimball). Economic downturn means fewer available jobs, especially for those who are just entering the market, as most graduates are. According to the Economic Policy Institute, the unemployment rate for college graduates is 7.2 percent and the underemployment rate (the unemployment rate combined with the rate of people currently employed part time but seeking full time work) is 14.9 percent. Due to the poor economic situation in America, many graduates are unable to take the two main paths receiving further education or getting more work experience that enable future career success (Davis, Gould, and Kimball). How are young Americans to attain the American Dream without a successful
  • 42. A Critical Incident At University During this essay I will be reflecting on critical incidents and their impact in order to develop as a healthcare professional. Using the Gibbs cycle I will describe the situation, how it made me feel, analyse what happened, evaluate the incident, before finally concluding and devising an action plan for the future (Jasper, 2015). I hope by reflecting on these incidents and my strengths and weaknesses it will support my goal of becoming a holistic healthcare professional. The first critical incident at university happened during semester one. I decided to submit my assignment at the end of the day as I wanted to review it before final submission. At 1pm I went to library to submit my work and was shocked to see the turnitin software wouldn t let me submit. As I investigated further, I realised that the deadline was at 12pm. I immediately ran to my personal tutor and assessor s office to ask for advice and forgiveness. Sadly, it had to be handed in as a late submission. I was really upset, but my personal tutor told me to calm down as there was nothing that could be done now. I had previously had some feedback one month prior to the deadline and felt rather foolish as I had finished the leaflet approximately 2 weeks prior to the incident. It was a real disappointing, embarrassing moment, which made me feel down on the last day of term. It took me a few days to get over it. I assumed the deadline was at 5pm, as was case in my previous college but agreed with the module
  • 43. Risks of Teenagers Obtaining a Driver s Licence Most teens look forward to getting a driver s license. But that may change if they know that they have a much higher risk of having a motor accident than adult drivers. In the United States, driving accidents are a leading cause of death among teenagers. These accidents happen mostly in populated cities. This problem has caused each state to have its own drivinglaws for teens. Although this problem is already a priority in many states, it should get more attention from the general public, especially teens. It is important for people to know about driving laws because these laws can help establish safe driving habits. California laws that attempt to decrease teen caused auto accidentsinclude establishing a minimum age for passengers of teenage drivers. In California, a new driver cannot transport anyone who is under 20 years of age unless a licensed adult is also in the vehicle. Another effective law in California requires teen drivers to have at least 50 hours of supervised driving during the learner s permit stage. This law is effective because it allows teens to learn how to drive safely on the road with the help of an experienced driver. Although some laws are effective, teens are still known to cause accidents. Therefore, a solution should be proposed to the state governments that will call for a law that requires teens to take an annual mandatory driving testfor a certain number of years after obtaining a license. Existing Driving Laws Fail to Ensure Safety As

These are the main design requirements of which the project is based. In other areas, Gehry added simple sand stone clad stair enclosures to accommodate mod ern safety regulations (Hahn, 2014). Proposing that the states could not over power the national government and the national government could not over power the state government. Due to the former existence of the states, federalism was created to protect the states and was a required settlement. The states already had their own governmental past dating back to the colonial era where they previously had their own constitutions. The framers believed that they created a well thought out system that they believed would prevent threats to individual liberty and controlling the power of government (Patterson, pp. 64 67). Federalismhad the greatest dispute that it would resolve the imperfections in the Articles of Confederation. Those defects included: the national government had neither the power to tax nor the power to regulate commerce among the states resulting in the government lacking in funds to maintain a strong enough army. Then without commerce, the national government could neither promote the general economy nor prevent trade wars between the states (Patterson, pp. 65). An example would include, the states have the control over public education and the police protection and the national government is responsible for national decisions, such as military defense and the currency. Together, the national and state governments, for example, have the power to borrow money and raise taxes. This is known
